One Small Cultural Difference
Lore Post: Avalon
CN: Discussion of domestic and sexual assault, but only as a concept. No actual description of assault.
CN 2: I will be using "women" and "men" here not to assert that gender is binary or discount my fellow non-binary folks, but because this discussion is centered around traditional binary gender roles.
***
As I'm writing the middle chapters of Will's route, where Will and Marion have a bit of a rougher playful relationship, I'm thinking of one small cultural difference I've made with Avalons that has wide-reaching positive consequences.
In Avalon society, domestic and sexual assault is considered an extremely cowardly act. In particular, a man assaulting a woman is considered the height of unmanliness. This doesn't mean that assault is nonexistent in Avalon (and other kinds of violent crime like muggings happen when the social order breaks down, like it has in Nottingham), but it still makes a huge difference in how people walk around in the world.
Avalon men do not generally defend other men who commit assault. It's not widely used as a threat to control or intimidate women. Women do not fear that they're at risk of assault at any moment. I wanted to imagine a world like that, which gives Marion less fear and more of a feeling of power in her encounters with men.
This makes a big difference in how Marion reacts to various situations in the game. Even when dealing with the obnoxious (and specifically Not a Good Guy) Ser Lawrence in Robin's route, she understands that he's referring to a consensual situation and responds accordingly. It's also why she's not completely terrified in Sherwood Chapter 1.
I've tried to write a few hints about this cultural difference into the text when appropriate, although it will be discussed more openly in Geoffrey and Gui's route when Marion helps a woman who has an abusive husband.
It's rather freeing to imagine Marion walking around in this world. For instance, right now, I'm writing a scene in which Will and Marion go to a tavern. Will leaves Marion's side and she's not concerned that she's going to be bothered or assaulted by the men in the tavern. Instead, she's joined at her table by another women, there alone to have a drink after work.
What a lovely change this small cultural difference makes!

Wayne MacAllister (father — estranged)
John “Jock” O’Rinn (grandfather)
Esther O’Rinn (grandmother)
Morag O'Rinn (great aunt)
Phoebe O’Rinn (cousin)
Skills / Hobbies
Dance, drums, butterfly knives, annoying ancient vampires with incessant questions and somehow not being murdered outright
Random Trivia
Luca has an avid curiosity (which often gets them into trouble) and is fascinated by how the world works — in every possible universe, they would have found out about the vampires in Crimson Beech.
He gets bored if he hasn’t learnt something new in a while.
Luca has Combined Type ADHD and frequently needs something to do with their hands — they can often be found flipping small items (pens, drum sticks, balisongs, etc, their phone, if they can’t get their hands on anything else)
...His phone screen is always cracked.
TERRIBLE at replying to text messages if they don’t do it then and there. Cannot make a phone call to save their life.
Has no problem biting ice cream, but sometimes sensory things ( unexplained sticky hands, clothes textures that feel suddenly wrong) with make them explode with sudden rage that comes on fast and goes away even faster. (It always alarms Gabriel whenever it happens. He tries to help and inevitably gets in the way and makes it worse. Cas knows to just ignore him when he’s having a moment.)
Loves playfighting with Cas (despite always losing and probably getting thrown somewhere)
Late. For everything. All the time. Zero time management skills.
Luca's first crush was Howl Pendragon of Studio Ghibli's Howl's Moving Castle
He takes his tea/coffee without milk bc he’s forever forgetting to drink it — there is always a small army of half-full, forgotten cups and mugs around his room.
Restless sleeper, abhors early mornings, can’t fall asleep unless he feels safe (which leads to a lot of falling asleep on Gabriel and Cas)
He despises math and still counts on his fingers. Numbers make his brain short-circuit.
Will absolutely eat food off the floor if they drop it.
Forests have always made him feel calm and want to dance.
Luca has had a habit since childhood where, any time they are walking alone through a forest, they’ll slow their pace and hum a gentle tune, trying to see if they can catch sight of any fairies or little fae creatures out of the corner of their eye. (Which seemed like a silly superstition until a few months ago, but now that they know vampires are real? Hey, maybe little Luca was on to something.)
Education (Scotland)
Rather than traditional schooling, Luca attended a specialised Arts school from the age of 14, in their hometown of Inverness, Scotland. Avalon Academy of the Arts is an alternative educational institution, covering both secondary- and tertiary-level studies in fields such as traditional arts and media, photography, music, theatre, and dance.
At Avalon, Luca trained primarily in ballet, lyrical jazz, contemporary, jazz funk, street dance, and urban hip-hop. Luca does enjoy ballet, but he found most of the ballet students too pretentious, cut-throat, and close-minded to consider pursuing a career in ballet long-term (especially as a non-binary dancer in an extremely gendered environment).
Luca’s main dance style tends toward a unique blend of lyrical, ballet, and street — though in recent years, there is definitely something of a K-Pop influence present in their choreography. They idolise Lee Taemin of SHINee, in part because of his expression and technical precision, but also because of the androgyny and power of Taemin’s dance style. They enjoy watching dance practice videos on YouTube in order to study other dancer’s body lines, transitions, and use of tension.
Education (USA)
In transferring to Crimson Beech High to round out their formal education, it became clear that Luca was very behind in some areas (math, physics, sciences) and very ahead in others (history, literature, anything pertaining to arts studies).
The semesters at Avalon do not align with traditional US schooling system (beginning in February and wrapping up in December to mirror their sister school in Avalon, Australia), so Luca is actually marginally older than many of his current classmates at Crimson Beech High.
(well. Those that aren’t vampires, anyway).
As at the first chapter of ID/SICSIG, Luca is 18, and will be turning 19 in January.
Hobbies
Luca could have taken music as an elective at Avalon, but he never did. Music is something that is purely for self expression and fun. While he did take drum lessons for about a year as a child, most of Luca’s musical ability comes from the school of fucking around and finding out — he is a kinaesthetic learner, so much of his drumming is self-taught.
Wayne (read: awful person) never really approved of Luca’s dancing and wanted them to quit when they first started taking lessons in primary school, but Terri put her foot down when she saw how happy it made them to have a form of self-expression that really spoke to who they were. As a means of compromise, Wayne suggested Luca take up drumming — something he saw as a suitably “masculine” hobby to “help him man up”.
A lot of the arguments Wayne and Terri had regarding Luca’s hobbies in their formative years were, in truth, veiled conversations about Luca’s sexuality and gender identity. Terri has never been anything but accepting of her child, and Wayne has never been able to get his head out of his own ass around Luca being gay, let alone non-binary. Though Terri tried to shield them from it, Luca often bore the burnt of a tirade of queerphobic verbal abuse, which escalated to physical violence in the years preceding Wayne and Terri’s separation.
There were a whole host of reasons why the O’Rinn household wasn’t the easiest or safest place to be growing up (which I have explored more in Starlight!); understandably, Luca had a lot of energy (and, in the years before Wayne’s arrest, a lot of anger) that he was able to take out on his drum kit.
Drumming on his own has turned into a really therapeutic space for Luca, wherein he can get into a flow state, lose the outside world, and work through a lot of his feelings. As much as Luca despises his father, he loves his drums — and knowing his father was the one to buy him his first ever drum kit is something of a sore spot. To this day, Luca still has mixed feelings about it.
Drumming with Viktor’s band, however, became a space of growth and celebration. Your Bisexual Awakening (as they are currently called — the band's name changes with almost every gig) is made up of other students from Avalon, and is unapologetically queer and in your face about it. They mostly play classic rock, punk, and grunge tracks, but ultimately do not limit themselves by genre.
Viktor, the band’s vocalist and frontman, is an OC (and will probably get his own "Meet My OC" profile!) (eventually); the other band members are Easter Eggs from other Choices books: WtD’s Angel on bass, NB’s Cal on keys, and ILITW’s Ava on lead electric guitar.
You can find out more about Luca via my masterlist, or read about them in my longfic, snow in crimson, starlight in gold on AO3! 🖤(direct link, fic is rated Explicit)

Thank you for answering my questions!
... I have more.
Oops?
---
I get the Lord/Lady/Wix alternatives, but I was wondering if there was a non-binary alternative to the Heir/Heiress title specifically. Like if Heir Harry Potter realised he was non-binary, would he/they remain 'Heir', or is there a neutral equivalent title he/they could use instead?
What pronouns can non-binary wixen use? Is it just they/them or can they use binary he/she pronouns and neopronouns too?
Can cis or trans witches and wizards, who identify as either male or female, use neopronouns?
Do genderfluid wixen exist? How do they signal their current gender/pronouns?
If above is true, how do they store their magic?
Is the base etiquette the same internationally? (Regarding international relations/Are the basics common between countries/societies?)
Could Hogwarts be described as in Avalon but tethered to Magical Britain/a Scottish area? (SuperCarlinBrothers on yt found a likely real-world location for Hogwarts in Scotland, could it realistically be tethered there?)
"That was just Chaos’s second son deciding a school needed to happen and dragging the other Oligarchy into it." Are there any other major historical events in magical society that can be described similarly?
Can oaths be sworn to Chaos, similar to Covenants?
Are there any day-to-day traditions, actions, etc. required or undertaken in accordance with the worship of Mother Magic and Chaos?
"Oligarchy family magic goes dormant instead of … dying, for lack of a better word, because the deity that started the bloodline still lives..." Which deities started which Ogliarchy bloodlines?
What is the youngest someone can take over being the head of the family and running the duchy, in the event of all other main branch family members dying? (I.e. shards of memory 'verse, Harriet inheriting the Ladyship at 15, could she have inherited the Ladyship at a younger age if her parents and grandparents had died when she was 11/12/13/14?)
If the Heir/Heiress is too young, who would run the duchy in their place? Their godparents, their Vassals, or a Seneschal?
What is a Seneschal?
Could a New Blood who gets Magically Twinned with a pureblood take on their Twin's surname? (Like if Harry and Hermione were twins, could she be known as Hermione Potter?)
Are Magical Twins purely platonic? If not, could they, theoretically, Bond? Or is that similar to incest like what the Gaunts did?
How common are Gifts from deities?
Are the Weasleys Blood Traitors in the Pureblood Culture 'verse? You've said the Weasleys we know are from a branch line, so is it just their branch or is it the entire family?
1. I was wondering if there was a non-binary alternative to the Heir/Heiress title specifically?
Apologies for the confusion. They would also use “Wixen” as they have the right to the Lord/Lady First Name title.
2. What pronouns can non-binary wixen use?
Whatever ones they want. This is true for any person.
3. Do genderfluid wixen exist? If above is true, how do they store their magic?
Yes. Their magical storage would convert from their hair, to a signet ring, cuff bracelet, etc., and back automatically.
4. Is the base etiquette the same internationally?
Yes. The very basics of etiquette are consistent internationally. (I have not and will not be creating etiquette for other magical nations.)
5. Could Hogwarts be described as in Avalon but tethered to Magical Britain/a Scottish area?
It's in both. It has tethers to both. It can, if necessary, be pulled entirely into Avalon and cut off from Magical Britain. The same is not true in reverse. The wardstones, etc., laid by the Founders are in Avalon.
6. "That was just Chaos’s second son deciding a school needed to happen and dragging the other Oligarchy into it." Are there any other major historical events in magical society that can be described similarly?
Probably. But I can't think of any off the top of my head. 😂
7. Can oaths be sworn to Chaos, similar to Covenants?
Chaos is a deity. Covenants can occur with any deity, Chaos included.
8. Are there any day-to-day traditions, actions, etc. required or undertaken in accordance with the worship of Mother Magic and Chaos?
Required? No. Though, many magicals offer thanks via prayers or burning a thread of magic in sacrifice as an offering.
9. Which deities started which Oligarchy bloodlines?
Chaos founded the Just and Most Olde House of Slytherin.
Death founded the Hallowed and Most Olde House of Peverell
I've never decided for Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff.
And I'm absolutely blanking on whether I said Fate founded the Gryffindor or Pendragon line. 😅
10. What is the youngest someone can take over being the head of the family?
From birth, if necessary. A baby could be born Lord/Lady/Wixen TITLE. Though, obviously, they wouldn't be expected to manage the estate.
11. If the Heir/Heiress is too young, who would run the duchy in their place?
Either Vassals or a Seneschal, if there's one appointed. This is true regardless of title (baronies, earldoms, etc.).
12. What is a Seneschal?
The steward of a Magical House who has sworn an Unbreakable Vow to never betray the bloodline and oversee all duties responsibly.
I've yet to write one into a fic, so I don't have any examples.
13. Could a New Blood who gets Magically Twinned with a pureblood take on their Twin's surname?
Only if they become twins via the Death-Blood Twin Adoption Ritual. If Mother Magic Twins them magically, they aren't actually blood-related.
14. Are Magical Twins purely platonic?
Yes. They could bond with the same person—share a spouse—but not romantically bond with each other.
15. How common are Gifts from deities?
Not very.
16. Are the Weasleys Blood Traitors in the Pureblood Culture 'verse?
No. But it is part of my Pureblood Culture 'Verse canon that they're Blood Feuding with the Vigilant and Most Ancient House of Malfoy.

The Pyro Cinematic Universe 2.0!
Hello hello!! I think it's time to re-introduce my WIPS as a LOT has changed! (there will be a more in-depth introduction when the time comes to it)
Chronicles of Avalon:
Chasing Crevices: includes a vampiric deer boy, a zombie who can't die for no more than 5 minutes, a possessed queen, a cult leader, a 7 foot tall snake faerie, an omnipresent mother, a 2 for 1 combo in a faerie and his demon brother//The Gods are being...Weird. Castien finds himself in a maze of a cult when his aunt owes a debt to them. His mother and fathers are not going to be happy with him. Or his brothers, Jami and Kit, who are determined to find out where and when the Gods are rumored to rise from. //ok this one is absolutely bat shit crazy BUT I LOVE IT SO MUCH I'M FINALLY PROUD OF THIS PLOT...there's also a whole thing with castien and his "best friend / partner in crime " Wednesday and it very quickly turns into a gay vampire thing...y'know cause the gods will it....(it's me I'm the gods),,also everything is not as it seems ;)))))))))
Lab Rat: including: the world's angriest tests subject (402), a very scared ghost living in a computer (001), a half flesh half machine spider lady (777), and a woman who happened to be the right place at the right time // 402 is determined to become more than a pawn in some great search for science. She will rip the secrets from these walls if it means she will be freed. Unfortunately, this knowledge comes with a heavy price, including making some enemies in her own facility. If 402 proves herself, she could earn the favor of the researchers and become stronger. if she can play the long game, could she finally see the outside world? // OKAY OKAY I LOVE THIS ONE SO MUCH it has liminal horror vibes and a really spooky vibe, I like the oppressive nature of the lab and her initial ideas of the outside world are....fantastical LMAO. It also has a lesbian romance !!
Sparrow's Flight: including a non-binary lead that needs to know what happened, faerie sisters who are the manifestation of winter, ghosts!, a demon who can't believe she has to spend her time protecting faerie brats, a transgender boy who needs to compile evidence of the paranormal, and a boy haunted by an unknown entity // Sparrow needs to know what happened to their mother. If that includes provoking demons, so be it. Their girlfriend, Lorelei is eager to help solve a mystery. This drags in Lorelei's older sister, Adelaide, and Jasmine, the demon bound to the family. Sparrow is accompanied by their best friend, Pallas, who is desperate for a safe space and willing to be the only one keeping track of things, and the new kid, Jedediah, who would rather die than be at home // this one takes place in Ohio and I fucking *LOVE* it....it's such a love letter to my own life and rural queer communities MWAH MWAH MWAH I love you all so much,,,,,also I enjoy complaining about the midwest.....
Resisting the Knife: including Noxys, chosen by the Goddess of Nature and PISSED at the Queen of Haren Aethal, Gwyneira (the queen of Haren Aethal) who is desperate to undo her family's bloody and oppressive legacy, a faerie spy, and Noxys' old partner in crime who can't read but is somehow the Queen's handmaid, and a mysterious man in the woods// Noxys needs to get revenge for the Wraiths burning down her village. She was forced into the cold at a young age due to the orphanages not willing to risk angering the royal family. Noxys has figured out that alchemy can solve almost any problem, so why not try to show the true nature of a blood thirsty beast? Yep. She's gonna turn the queen into a vampire. Surely this will go well and have no negative consequences whatsoever (it does). // i absolutely love this story it has such a fun cast and it's always fun to write a little enemies to lovers........
The Day We Disappeared: including a ghost who doesn't know she's a ghost, a poltergeist, a vengeful spirit, and a witch in the woods who doesn't want kids (but secretly does)// Lucy and older siblings are taken in by a witch interested in studying their paranormal abilities. Little does Lucy know, but she's dead. The elder sister, Okiku, is hoping there is a way for Lucy to realize that is not too damaging on her little psyche. Wolfgang, the elder (but younger than Okiku) is ready to provide a distraction so Saoirse (the witch in the woods) can try and figure out something about ghosts that may help//okay I love cozy horror and this is also a murder mystery bc the person who murdered Lucy also had a hand in Wolfgang and Okiku's deaths too oohoohooohoo......

It's time to talk about this guy, oh yeah, one of the weirdest characters I've ever created, and also one of the oldest.
Dating back to the dawn of time, A.K.A, 2021, Hector Damon was the result of an angsty bastard of a person just trying to see how edgy she could make a character before just blatantly making Satan incarnate.
Hector is the result of a Dream and Anchor Dreamer being charged with Negative energy and being manifested onto Craftworld by complete accident, and explains why he shows the traits he does.
Hector is an alcoholic, how that's even possible in the Imagisphere I still have yet to figure out, and he's also just every bad trait you could give to someone.
I made a joke a while back where I created a character info sheet for him, but didn't take anything seriously so I ended up leaving the friends field blank and replaced the gender field with 'Epic'.
I really didn't know what to do with the character after a while, and I had an idea at one point that he would: 'Find his calling' and become a fancy pants painter, but obviously that plan makes almost no sense and isn't interesting.
So, what to do with a character that is disliked by the entire world and also doesn't have anything interesting going on?
Give him Trauma.
Yes, I gave him Trauma.
Now, it's more like Hector just does whatever because he thinks that he's useless, and he's trying to figure out his purpose in life. Kind of like he didn't want to exist but is now stuck with having to stay alive.
That's when some random event sends him to a Dimension of Craftworld where everything is fucked beyond belief, and he has to navigate through this world slowly gaining emotion and empathy for others surrounding him.
All of this happens in Dimension of Perfection, my story on Wattpad, and I know that I keep bringing it up but I spent way too long on it for it to be forgotten.
I won't spoil what happens at the end, for obvious reasons, but I'm excited to continue with it.
Hector only really has enemies, when it comes to the main friend group I focus on, and he seems to think that he's part of it despite being told several times by Don and Avalon to piss off.
Also, I've been experimenting of the idea of making him Non-Binary, to add to the already lack-lustre list of 2 characters, but the fact that I've possibly misgendered him 20 times might tell you that I didn't stick with that.
The First Design of Hector Damon V

Well, I have gotten to other professors/staff at the magic schools besides just the headmasters/headmistresses and Griselda. Something I want to make VERY clear is that I have made Palladium non-binary with they/them pronouns, so I will NOT tolerate misgendering, especially when I have put their pronouns in the title. I understand if it was by mistake and if you do use the wrong pronouns, I will comment asking you to correct it and if you refuse to, I will delete your comment. I will also NOT tolerate any bigotry against non-binary people. If you deliberately say anything offensive, I will block you without hesitation.
Now, as to why I made Palladium non-binary, well I grew up with the 4Kids dub of Winx Club where Palladium had a very feminine sounding voice. That combined with Palladium's very androgynous appearance (Especially in season 1), maybe me confused if Palladium was a guy or a girl. So I figured, why not give some positive rep and have Palladium be non-binary. But I also wouldn't make it his entire personality like a lot of people on social media tend to do that contribute to people saying it's all for attention. In fact, I would use the same approach as The Owl House did with Raine (And the LGBTQ rep in general) with no one batting an eye about it and it being treated as normal. Also, Palladium is gay (They were assigned male at birth), so they like men and non-binary people who still physically present as male and will be having Avalon as their love interest.
With all of that out of the way, time for me to actually talk about their designs. Well, since I did make them non-binary, I wanted to give them an androgynous look, which I think I did a good job at. I also wanted for the gender neutral characters to have their own type of lips different from men and women. For my style, women have actual lips and men don't have lips (Unless they are black or Polynesian, of course). So for the gender neutral characters like Palladium, I gave them Kim Possible style lips. Their civilian outfit isn't really different from the outfit that OG Palladium had in the show but I added some extra things to make it more fun like the long and flowing sleeves on the end with a matching puffy shirt.
As for their fairy form, which is Enchantix, I wanted them to have a look that could have a more feminine look than their civilian form but also have some masculine qualities. I had A LOT of fun with their look because I didn't have to worry about their look not suiting them or not fitting in with the binary gender and all that crap. I could just say, BLUR THAT BINARY! I even gave them some makeup and painted toenails. I used Bloom's Mythix hair and Flora's Onyrix wings. They are the fairy of potions and alchemy. I hope you guys like it and comment letting me know what you think. This is my first time doing a gender-neutral character, so I hope I did a good job. Enjoy!

I feel I need a more formal or organized presentation for both my work in progress. + who I am, an intro to me
Forget me
[ID. Is in bigger font the words "Forget me"]
Forget me is a paranormal story following Hellen and Maude, as the past life of Hellen, a now retired paranormal investigator from a secret society, gets revealed to Maude. Maude and Hellen are soon to be married, and with the suspicious death of Mary Lakeman, Maude's mother, Hellen fight tooth and nail to keep her secret past life buried. But Mary's death wasn't natural and Maude gets dragged in the mess that was Hellen's life before finding her and falling in love.
The cover, for the irony, will probably include forget-me-not flowers, for the meaning of loyalty, love, hope.
(I have also decided, ultimately that this story gets a happy ending, unless I lose control of the plot because fuck it I want them to be happy.)
So far 20 pages written on paper. The tiles is a reference to the hardships that Hellen and Maude will face as a couple as they both see each others world crumple, a silent promesses that if things turn for the worse the other will try and move on. (Spoilers, neither wants to move on)
The other story is:
Avalon's Child
[ID. In bigger font can be read "Avalon's Child"]
Atlas is a regular human, or so they thought. That was until strange grimoires keep appearing in their house, and they start to experience strange dreams, and ends up Astral projecting in an empty classroom where their math teacher is. And he sees them.
Now for Atlas start a journey of uncovering who they are, who their mother was and where is the place they keep dreaming of.
So far 13k words, roughly 35 pages. This one might be a little sadder because it tackles a lot of experiences for disabled characters, transgender characters and the general feeling of not belonging anywhere.
Both stories are obviously queer, both have my heart tied in knots because I don't know where my pen will lead me.
Who am I?
[ID. Is the words "who am I?" In bigger font]
Well, for starters, my name is Orion, I'm a trans non-binary student, barely scraping for most of my classes because the stories of my funky little characters spend most time rent-free in my head. I am a libra for those that this interests. I've got an interest in everything from all different spirituality and religion to psychology, sociology, and well... anything, really.

It’s shaping up to be a decent weekend weather-wise, but that might not be early into the work week. Things will start to pick up on Sunday afternoon, with rain and snow in the forecast that will linger into Monday morning.
Environment Canada meteorologist Mike Vandenberg says rain won’t be a huge factor, with about 25 mm expected for the east coast for several days. They are keeping the possibility of some significant snowfall on Tuesday. While it’s early, there is a chance that areas from Bonavista to the metro could see anywhere from 15 – 25 cm starting around lunchtime and heading into the evening.
While the Avalon will be switching back and forth from rain to snow, the white stuff will be the primary source of precipitation for the rest of the island. Snow has prompted weather statements for the central, west, and southwest coast, which could see anywhere from 30 – 50 cm of snow spread out over the next few days.
Some parents of transgender children say the Alberta government's policy changes affecting transgender and non-binary youth will interfere with the medical treatment their children need. Premier Danielle Smith introduced Alberta's new policy on Wednesday, which includes restrictions on puberty blockers and hormones for children 15 and under.
The Alberta Medical Association's pediatric section says there are benefits for patients to start puberty blockers as soon as they show signs as less invasive. Bottom surgery is always performed on patients 18 and older.
Two Edmonton-area mothers, both with 10-year-olds, what Smith's new policy will mean for them. Catie Jones's daughter Samantha felt safe enough to tell her parents she was a girl.
Jones said she was terrified to learn the province plans to restrict the use of medication for youth 15 and under.
Jones said her daughter is already showing signs of depression, anxiety, and gender dysphoria. Jones said Samantha feels uncomfortable and doesn't want to look at herself in the mirror. Jones said her daughter was furious after learning what Smith announced on Wednesday.
Anna Paranich's daughter Ellie knew she was a girl since she was two. Now 10, Ellie is in the same boat as Samantha. Paranich said Smith is spreading misinformation about puberty blockers by telling people that the effects are irreversible when they aren't.
Paranich said it's recommended for trans children to start taking medication as soon as they start showing signs of puberty, and she thinks Ellie is about 18 months away from that transition point. Paranich said Ellie has been seeing a specialist at the Stollery Children's Hospital in Edmonton for two years.
Paranich said she plans to fight Smith's changes but will go elsewhere to get the medication Ellie needs.
At a news conference Thursday, Smith defended her rationale for planning to restrict health-care options for youth.
The pediatric section of the Alberta Medical Association issued a statement on Thursday that spoke against the Alberta policy. They said gender-affirming treatments are a medical decision involving the child, their parents, their doctor, and other healthcare providers.
Jeff Park is the executive director of the Alberta Parents' Union. What Smith announced this week resolves many of the group's complaints. The policy also requires parental notification if a student under 18 wishes to use a different pronoun at school. Parents need to give their permission if the child is under 16.
Smith hopes to table legislation this fall. Jones has launched a petition against the policy. She said her daughter has support but worries about the kids who don't.
Paranich wants the government to make medical decisions between Ellie, her parents, and her physician.
Paranich said she and her daughter plan to attend a rally in Edmonton on Saturday against Smith's policy.

STΔRLIVHT x PaDZ - Team-building
Welcome to the return my special-interesting-combining rants.
This time, as I mentioned previously, I'm going to put together Puzzle & Dragons Z teams for the four members of the idol group STΔRLIVHT from the mobile bullet-hell rhythm game visual novel NOISZ STΔRLIVHT.
(NOISZ STΔRLIVHT False Timeline and Forge of Antiphon spoilers ahead)
(Puzzle & Dragons Z main story and post-game spoilers ahead)
Grace Kamenashi
(Leader) Ancient Dragon Knight (Wood) - For a long time, Grace has hoped to be Sera's knight. She's wanted to be there for and protect her princess. As well, to match Grace's green color scheme, the team is mostly Wood-centered, and Ancient Dragon Knight's leader skill boosts Wood monsters.
ChronoGenbu (Water) - The Black Tortoise of the North/Black Warrior of the North has a strong association with Grace. The most obvious link is through the NOISZ Beast Genbu, who bears an incredibly strong resemblance to Grace.
Grace is also linked to turtles/tortoises in general. The kanji 亀 (kame) contained in her last name 亀梨 (Kamenashi) means "tortoise/turtle. Grace is often seen with a plush turtle named Kelp. Her Live2D model during the NOISZ STΔRLIVHT Release Celebration Live had her holding Kelp for the entirety of her appearance. LIVHT MY WΔY and light my way are both in Clover Folder, each of which has a tortoise (more specifically a Genbu) as its boss.
Finally, ChronoGenbu's skill is Time Spring, which stops time to let you move Orbs freely for 12 seconds. Grace has time manipulation in her non-canon Antiphon Armament Style's exclusive Heart of the Challenger Evolution called "Immutable Guardian," which rewinds the Verse it is used on.
Kachina Kuchina (Wood) - Kachina Kuchina best represents Grace's severe social anxiety and how performing with her girlfriend and friends helps ease that away.
Guardian Dragon, Avalon Drake (Wood) - A powerful, nearly unstoppable foe who wields the power of a gigantic sword.
In the NOISZ universe, the color green represents the element of "sword." Grace's color scheme is green, and in SLFT Chapter 5.IV, she is even gifted a large greatsword by her girlfriend, Sera, as part of a marriage proposal.
This sword, Binary Star, has a similar appearance to the swords of the NOISZ Beast Genbu: both have the same general shape in their split blades, two-pointed cross-guard, and diamond-shaped pommel. (although Binary Star's pommel is only shown in non-canon artwork of Nanoha, an original character belonging to the writer who inherited Binary Star and wields it herself)
Avalon Drake was once the protector of the Skydragons, but it could not stand up to the evil Dragon King Avalon and was enslaved. Grace did all she could to protect her friends and love, but ultimately, she was stopped in False Timeline by a similarly evil figure, Gaius Antiphon. If Genbu is Grace turned into a NOISZ Beast, as commonly theorized, then she would end up in a similar situation to Avalon Drake: puppeted around by her conqueror.
Fortoytops (Wood) - A mighty monster with strong defensive capabilities. Wood and Water Grimoire defends against Wood and Water, the green and blue elements. Grace is green. Sera is blue. They are a couple. For that reason, this fits them.
Sera Hoshikawa
(Leader) Water Dragon, Cutlass (Water) - Cutlass' description states that its claws have been made into swords. To quote:
Its huge talons grow back no matter how many times they break. In ancient times, people turned its shed claws into swords.
Sera is the one to get Binary Star forged and the to use it to propose to Grace in SLFT Chapter 5.IV.
Sera is strongly connected to the "dragon" element: DIAGRAM, a song facing a dragon, is in her folder, her NOISZ Burst Zone of Dominion resembles the Deadline Zones of the dragon NOISZ Beast Seiryu, and Sera even got a non-canon dragonlike appearance in the collab Style Dragon Maiden.
Cutlass is a True Dragon Type, also known as the most dragon you could get.
Enchantress of the Sea, Siren (Water) - Sera has always wanted Grace to be there with her to realize her dream, to see the view from the top. Sera's always had an appreciation for music, and when the opportunity to join an idol group presented itself, she charged right ahead. She's worked hard for years to make it as a singer.
Siren embodies this strong desire to be a successful singer as well. Her description reads:
Bored with everyday life, this songstress fled the ocean and now studies music on land. She hopes to one day return to the sea and become its number-one singer.
Deep-Sea Dragon, Abyss (Water) - Throughout the story of NOISZ SL, and even in Sera's Kickstarter bio, she's described as icy, cold, and emotionally distant. Conflicts arise from the fact Sera can't properly communicate how she feels to others except her girlfriend Grace.
Meanwhile, Abyss is physically distant, living deep under the ocean.
Fittingly and coincidentally, ice-themed monsters like Crystal Aurora Dragon and Beowulf share the Water element with Abyss.
Like Cutlass, Abyss is also considered a Pure Dragon Type, fitting with Sera's connections to dragons.
Death Scissors (Water) - Death Scissors hunts during the full moon, and one of Sera's Styles is Blue Moon.
Death Scissors has a very defensive skill that halves damage received for two turns, and Sera can obtain defensive utility from her STΔRLIVHT Stage Style's extra point in HP from the SLFT Chapter 5.IV bonus (lovingly referred to by some fans as the "marriage stat bonus.")
Aquafarena (Water) - Whatever Sera wears, you'll seldom see her without that iconic blue butterfly hairpin. Aquafarena has a butterfly-like feel to its elegant wings, and it is even said that it "flies beautifully like a butterfly."
Sumire Hitori
(Leader) Saino Nine-Tails (Fire) - Sumire is a much more passive person than her alter, Hitori. Even when upset, she more quickly retreats inward to deal with it alone than express her needs. She acts more reactively than proactively, and Saino Nine-Tail's skill is called "Grand Follow-Up Strike."
Like Saino Nine-Tails, Sumire has an elegant and slender appearance yet possesses overwhelming power. Certainly, when seeing a teenage girl in a fight, one may tend underestimate her fighting, and wrongly so.
Phoenix (Fire) - Sumire and Hitori are often linked to phoenixes/firebirds. Valkyrius:0, whose enemy is a large phoenix, appears in Heart Folder. When dueling this phoenix, Sumire sprouts large fiery wings from her back, a physical manifestation of her soul caused by using the NOISZ.
The vigilante Firebird also has a connection to the two of them: His only fatal incident was an encounter with Eito Hojo, the abusive ex-boyfriend of Sumire's older sister Yumi.
In NOISZ SLFT's Dead End, the cape Sumire is seen wearing is nearly identical to Firebird's.
Valkyrie (Light) - Sumire, in Hitori's Blackheart Style, is the one to fight the phoenix of Valkyrius:0 in SLFT Chapter 3.IV.
Flare Drall (Fire) - Sumire's NOISZ Burst, Blazing Heart, regenerates health when grazing bullets (and hitting notes at AA SPC and higher).
Most Fire monsters do not have health-focused abilities, but one of the closer ones is Flare Drall. Flare Drall's skill, Heart Transformation - Wood, transforms Wood Orbs, which only have offensive utility, into Heart Orbs (which recover HP and increase the Skill Gauge).
Naga (Fire) - Naga shares a lot of Sumire's personality. Her description reads:
This beautiful snake pixie makes for a very deadly enemy, but if she's on your side, you get to enjoy her kind and caring side. She really loves to cook.
Sumire can become very fired-up and shows overflowing power when facing particularly antagonistic enemies, but she is generally a very kind, gentle, and supportive person in her friend's lives.
Sumire has a great passion for baking, similar to Naga's love of cooking.
Hakuno Nekoda
why are there so few cats girl help me
(Leader) Mighty Moai (Light) - In Puzzle & Dragons Z, Skill Points are used to activate a monster's skills. Skills have some similarity to NOISZ Bursts in that way, except they are not limited to one use per session.
Mighty Moai's Leader Skill Hyper Charge fills up the Skill Gauge a medium amount each turn. Mighty Moai's Leader Skill being skill-oriented parallel's Hakuno's main stat, SPC, being NOISZ Burst-oriented.
Night Skydragon, Elysium (Dark) - Elysium's Skill Deep Shadow Breath deals 20x Dark damage and gives perfect defense for 1 turn. This is similar to how Paradox Felid shields you from all bullets while docked but increases damage dealt while undocked.
Guivre Chimera (Water) - What are chimeras if not big cats with fun accessories? And Hakuno loves cats. As well, like V-IGNITION Stray Cat, Guivre Chimera's Skill can recover HP.
Hecao (Water) - As a trans woman, Hakuno has had to go through a to become the woman she's always wanted to be. Her life has radically transformed from her quiet, miserable, and withdrawn middle school days.
Hecao's entire gimmick is that its skill causes it to transform into a random other monster, embodying the transformation Hakuno has undergone over the years.
Santauros (Light) - Hakuno Nekoda's birthday is December 25th, which is also the only day you can get the egg for this monster.
Hitori
(Leader) Phoenix Knight, Homura (Fire) - Like Sumire, Hitori is tied closely to fire and phoenixes. He enjoys burning things and playing with his lighter, for example, getting excited when the Producer lets him use her incinerator.
Hitori and the vigilante Firebird, who wields a flaming sword and has been seen sprouting wings upon his back, also have a lot of character parallels in their desire to protect the people around them from the cruelty and unfairness of the world.
Red Skydragon, El Dorado (Fire) - Hitori's NOISZ Burst Dark Star drains HP gradually and increases damage dealt until the effect pauses at 1 HP. El Dorado's skill, Hellfire Breath, drops HP to 1 instantly but deals a massive amount of damage (70x Fire damage).
Garuda (Fire) - Yet another firebird for this phoenix-themed pair of siblings. While Phoenix is more defensively oriented like Sumire's Blazing Heart, Garuda is more offensively oriented. With its near-maximum attack stat and a skill that can potentially deal massive damage, it can set ablaze all who stand before it.
Phantom Dragon, Anima (Fire) - Anima's description states that it powerful, emotional blaze.
This creature is a collection of spirits that burns out of control. The only way to calm its rage is to face it with a heart free of evil thoughts.
When Sumire's emotion and trauma spirals out of control into a wildfire, Hitori fronts to protect her. He's there to protect her and voice her anger when Sumire's too passive to do so herself.
As well, Anima is called the "Phantom Dragon" and its Skill is Mirage Flame. Hitori questions the validity and reality of his own existence from time to time, most notably denying himself completely in NOISZ SLFT Chapter 3.IV.
Zeta Hydra (Fire) - Zeta Hydra's describes its multiple personalities and destructive tendencies:
This devious monster has many different personalities and is horrifically destructive when all its heads work together. Luckily, several of its heads are usually asleep.
Likewise, Hitori and Sumire share their body, and when they work together, they can wield the NOISZ with incredible power.

Happy Pride Month!
Oh hey, it's June again, woot!
This one goes out to my fellow in-betweenies, my lovers of liminal spaces, my boundary-walkers, my happily binary-escaping buddies.
This Pride Month I'm posting a bit about our protagonist, Marion. Long-time readers of our Tumblr know that Marion is not designed as a fully self-insert protagonist. She has a set gender identity and sexuality, both of which are part of the game's plot.
Like Earth Medieval society, Avalon society doesn't have a strong concept of an inborn sexual orientation, so I don't use modern terms for sexuality in the game. However, Marion is bi/pansexual in modern terms, and this is canon in the text (she has a romantic past with a woman, and it's mentioned in the prologue and discussed in one of the lore stories in our Mega-Guide).
I use bi/pansexual because I haven't defined her sexuality granularly enough to choose between the two, and I don't particularly care to. Marion is potentially attracted to people of any gender, and although she's not educated about non-binary people as of the beginning of the game, Meissa's gender makes intuitive sense to her. She has her own thoughts about gender and although she's cis, she doesn't exactly fit in the gender role box she's been given. So to hear that someone doesn't identify entirely as a man or woman isn't a shock to her.
Marion's sexuality is not a major storyline theme in the game because it's not a huge deal in Avalon society. Avalons know that people have different sexual preferences and it's not a big deal. Commoners give zero shits whatsoever. Nobles are generally expected to marry someone of the opposite sex in order to produce heirs, but nobody cares who they sleep with on the side. And some nobles like Theo (and Marion, on Alanna's route) challenge even that expectation. As I've mentioned before, Alanna's social class is a much larger hurdle to a romance with Marion than her gender.
Marion is a cisgender woman who is gender non-conforming. She prefers activities that are socially reserved for noblemen rather than noblewomen, and has had the rare chance to indulge in those activities while running her father's holding while he was away at war. Her gender and her unconventional response to those who hoped to see her meet conventional gender roles worked heavily against her during that period (something that will also be addressed in the prologue). The fallout of the way she was treated during that time crops up in various routes, particularly Robin's.
This is the part of Marion's personality that maps most closely to my personal experience (she's definitely not an author-insert, but y'know, we all do use our personal experiences to shape our narratives). I'm an older queer and didn't have the words to define myself as non-binary for a long time, so I spent a lot of my life struggling between who I wanted to be and the expectations placed upon me based on my perceived gender. Of course, having the language to label myself doesn't stop people from trying to police my gender, but it definitely helps on an internal level.
I don't mind at all if players want to imagine Marion as somebody who discovers a non-binary identity as she ages, but she maintains a cisgender identity in the game. Although I myself am non-binary (and frankly always have been), many of my dear ones are gender non-conforming cis people. Just like bisexuality isn't an "in-between" stop that leads to homo- or heterosexuality, gender-noncomformity doesn't necessarily lead to non-cis identity.

@wingsyliveblogs I’m gonna type up my recomendation here instead of in an ask to make sure I can give a full description.
The name of the serial is Heretical Edge, and it can be found here: https://ceruleanscrawling.wordpress.com/table-of-contents/
Here is the premise: Felicity “Flick” Chambers is a teenage Girl who aspires to be a reporter like her father. One day, she receives an invitation to join Crossroads Academy, a school which trains people to become Monster Hunters known as Heretics. According to Crossroads, the Earth is infested with Strangers, monsters who prey on an unaware humanity. The Heretics can see them, and by killing them gain their powers.
Once Flick has enrolled, she quickly becomes embroiled in two distinct conpiracies. One concerns a series of assassination attempts on her roomate, the Headmistress daughter Avalon Sinclaire. The other conspiracy concerns a class photo from Crossroads which contains Flick’s Mother Jocelyn, who walked out on the family which Flick was a child.
In terms of Genre Heretical Edge is best described as an action-thriller, with elements of both Urban Fantasy and Sci Fi.
In terms of content warnings, some action scenes (mostly the finishes) would be quite gory if done in a visual medium, but the descriptions aren’t lurid or overly detailed. Additionally, there are mentions of sexual assault in the backstories of certain characters, though none are ever depicted onscreen nor are there any “fade to black before an assult occurs”. The Author has also promised that their never will be. One of the villain groups is also quite ableistic towards a fictional disability in their species.
In terms of representation, the cast is diverse in both race and sexuality, with the lead coming out as bisexual over the course of the story, and there are also several trans and non-binary characters. Most prominently a lot of attention is given to poly relationships, as those are normalized in the Heretic society. There is also some representation for plural systems as well.
The story features several unique takes on figures from history and mythology, most notably the Greek Gods and King Arthur’s court. Notably, their take on queen Guinevere is given a lot of prominence, and one of the knights is Optimus Prime. And one of the characters can be accurately described as “Wacky uncle Satan”

I will admit, I have... many questions about the Pureblood Culture 'verse, so please bear with me here. Most of these will undoubtedly be about non-binary wixen, because I'm curious.
In a few of these, I mention birth sex. By this I mean essentially the gender/sex assigned to specific genitals in babies.
---
What is the non-binary equivalent to heir/heiress? Is it heir for both males and non-binary wix?
How is the non-binary nature of a wix discovered? Is it determined at birth or discovered later in life like in the Muggle/our world?
If the latter, what happens to magic stored in a wix's hair/signet ring up until that point? Does it dissipate, is it sacrificed to Mother Magic, does it transfer to the cuff bracelet? Is it similar for trans people (magic goes from signet ring to hair/hair to signet ring)?
Is there a Courting Gift exclusively for wix/wix Courtships?
Can wixen tend to their sister's hair if invited, similarly to brothers? If a non-binary child is born before a son, do they get the right to tend to their mother's hair instead?
Is there a trend to how wixen tend to wear their hair, similar to the trend among Pureblood Lords?
Can cousins become Magical Twins? What degree of separation is needed for Twinned bonds when so many families are interrelated?
"Polyjuicing as another pureblood without full and knowing consent is considered Magical Identity Theft and is a serious crime." Is it similar for Metamorphmagi taking the entire appearance of another pureblood? Are exceptions made for Auror infiltration missions i.e. infiltrating the Death Eaters/equivalents in worlds where they exist? What is he punishment for Magical Identity Theft?
Is there a wixen equivalent to Morgana's Secret Arts/Merlin's Secret Arts? If not, can wixen practice the Secret Arts of their birth sex?
Can wizards wear ball gowns at formal events? Can wixen?
S there a wixen equivalent to "Morgana!"/"Merlin!"? Or do wixen use whichever is used by their birth sex?
Is Hogwarts located in Avalon or Magical Britain?
Have you decided on an Attribute for the Prince family? (Just curious, no pressure!)
How many known Chosens have there been? Have Chosens existed without the general populace knowing? Were the Founders Chosens?
Is there a wixen equivalent to Covens and Conclaves? If not, can wixen join the respective group of their birth sex?
Are there differences between types of merpeople (Merrow vs Rusalki vs Mermaids/Mermen, etc.)? Are Syrens different to merpeople?
Can oaths be sworn to Mother Magic/Chaos? How would they work? Would they be more binding than other types of oaths?
In stories where TMR becomes High Lord Slytherin, or Harry becomes High Lord Peverell they 'resurrect' the House in a sense, doesn't he? Would he have to build up the family magic again?
What happens when the sole heirs to Ogliarchy Houses Bond? Is it the Lord Potter, Heir-Consort Nott/Lord-Consort Potter, Heir Nott title layout? Or is it something else?
---
Thank you for whatever answers you decide to give! They are very appreciated!
I adore your username. 💖
1. What is the non-binary equivalent to heir/heiress? Is it heir for both males and non-binary wix?
A person who presents as non-binary uses the title “High Wixen” in place of the gendered “High Lord/High Lady”, “Wixen” in place of the gendered “Lord/Lady”, and “Wix” in place of the gendered “Master/Mister/Miss/etc.”
2. How is the non-binary nature of a wix discovered? Is it determined at birth or discovered later in life like in the Muggle/our world? If so, what happens to the magic stored in the wix's hair/signet ring up till that point?
In general, I imagine it as being known from birth. However, it's also possible someone will realize it later in life. If that's the case, any stored magic would transfer to the cuff bracelet.
3. Is there a Courting Gift exclusively for wix/wix Courtships?
Not that I've invented yet.
4. Can wixen tend to their sister's hair if invited, similarly to brothers? If a non-binary child is born before a son, do they get the right to tend to their mother's hair instead?
Yes, they can.
5. Is there a trend to how wixen tend to wear their hair, similar to the trend among Pureblood Lords?
However they would like. They needn’t follow the trends of either wizards or witches.
6. Can cousins become Magical Twins? What degree of separation is needed for Twinned bonds when so many families are interrelated?
Anyone can become Magical Twins if they either a) are Twinned by Mother Magic or b) perform the Death-Blood Twin Adoption Ritual.
I don't think a Metamorphmagus could perfectly assume an entire appearance. But assuming someone's face and a similar body shape with the intent to impersonate that person would be a crime, yes.
The Polyjuice Potion is restricted in canon. So, yes, given its strict regulation, it's possible an Auror could be authorized to use it to stop a crime/go undercover.
It would depend on what the Polyjuiced person does while Polyjuiced. But, at minimum, time remanded to Azkaban in a low security wing. At maximum, the death penalty.
8. Is there a wixen equivalent to Morgana's Secret Arts/Merlin's Secret Arts? If not, can wixen practice the Secret Arts of their birth sex?
I've literally never thought about that before. Maybe?
9. Can wizards wear ball gowns at formal events? Can wixen?
Yes. And witches can wear trousers. As long as bust-to-knee is covered, then modesty rules are satisfied.
10. Is there a wixen equivalent to "Morgana!"/"Merlin!"? Or do wixen use whichever is used by their birth sex?
They can use both/either, or “Mordred the Betrayer”, etc., but they're most likely to use an epithet involving "Death!"
11. Is Hogwarts located in Avalon or Magical Britain?
That's a very good question. And my brain says, “Both.” It … sort of crosses the veil.
12. Have you decided on an Attribute for the Prince family? (Just curious, no pressure!)
Nope! I almost never write the Princes so I haven't ever felt a need to do so. But they are Attributed.
13. How many known Chosens have there been? Have Chosens existed without the general populace knowing? Were the Founders Chosens?
I've never considered the first question. Yes, most definitely. No, they weren't. That was just Chaos's second son deciding a school needed to happen and dragging the other Oligarchy into it.
14. Is there a wixen equivalent to Covens and Conclaves? If not, can wixen join the respective group of their birth sex?
Yes. Though, I'm unsure what I would call it. Maybe … a Connex? 🤔
15. Are there differences between types of merpeople (Merrow vs Rusalki vs Mermaids/Mermen, etc.)? Are Syrens different to merpeople?
Oh, absolutely. Syrens are different from Merpeople who are different from Selkies, etc.
16. Can oaths be sworn to Mother Magic/Chaos? How would they work? Would they be more binding than other types of oaths?
Yes, absolutely. They're called Covenants. It'd be a magic, blood, and soul-bound agreement. If you break one, you'll be stripped of your magic. And, frankly, you'll probably die, too.
17. In stories where TMR becomes High Lord Slytherin, or Harry becomes High Lord Peverell they 'resurrect' the House in a sense, doesn't he? Would he have to build up the family magic again?
Nope! Oligarchy family magic goes dormant instead of … dying, for lack of a better word, because the deity that started the bloodline still lives, so even when an Oligarchy House is defunct in Avalon, the bloodline isn't technically dead.
18. What happens when the sole heirs to Oligarchy Houses Bond? Is it the Lord Potter, Heir-Consort Nott/Lord-Consort Potter, Heir Nott title layout? Or is it something else?
So, for example, if Tom and Harry bonded in a world where they're both Oligarchy Lords, it'd be:
Tom Marvolo Slytherin, High Lord Slytherin, High Lord-Consort Peverell and Hadrian James Peverell, High Lord Peverell, High Lord-Consort Slytherin.
Children would not have hyphenated names or titles. They would inherit from whichever Oligarchy bloodline gifts are dominant in them.
