Try putting yourself in Amity’s shoes:
You’re studying for the abomination track and are very skilled at it. You’re suddenly pulled into a Hexside rebellion because the emperor’s a genocidal maniac.
Now you see your girlfriend again after days, and now she’s all of a sudden rebelling with three COVEN HEADS, including the Abomination head.

Alright. I've seen a heck of a lot of gifs and fanart and comics about The Owl House. I'm finally gonna watch it and write down some of my observations.
(spoiler alert, obviously)
• Omfg her name is "loose". I've been pronouncing Luz like it rhymes with "buzz" this entire time.
• Nothing could have prepared me for Hooty's voice. In fact, no one sounds like I thought they would. Eda is Wendie Malick? Was no one going to tell me this?
• I've only known King for five minutes, but if anything happens to him I will kill everyone in this room and then myself.
• King's voice was also not what I was expecting, which in hindsight was foolish of me. I knew it was Alex Hirsch. The Bill Cipher vibe should not have been a surprise.
• When does Hunter get here?
• Amity is the snobby high-achieving school bully?! BUT THE ROMANCE?!
• I know it's coming. I've seen far too many cute fan works of Amity and Luz for that not to be the case.
• SHE SQUISHED KING'S CUPCAKE THOUGH. 😡
• Ahhh. There's a teeeeny tiny glimpse of the Lumity that is to come. All is right with the world.
• Gus is just a little fella. Comics did not fully portray how smol he is.
• When does Hunter get here?
• I am up to episode 16 and I still watch the opening theme in its entirety for three reasons. One: it's fantastic. The music, the animation, it's all tops. Two: I'm waiting to see when/if the image of Amity changes. She still turns her back at the moment, but she's warming up, I know it. And three: the image of King perched on Luz's shoulders just before the title card makes me smile every time. He's so dang cute.
• Ok. So, I obviously already knew from tumblr that The Owl House is beloved, in part, for its representation of LGBTQIA. And now that I'm experiencing it first-hand? I totally get it. Everything feels so natural and understated. Luz blushing when either of the older Blight siblings spoke to her? The short, sweet glances between Luz and Amity? They're all the typical moments you'd expect to see between a male and a female character, and it's honestly so refreshing (and surprising, coming from Disney) to see it happening between two girls in a way that feels real. I am all aboard the Lumity train.
• In the span of 10 minutes, Eda has referred to Luz as "her kid", called herself "mama", and been shown wearing a watch with King's face on it. I love Mama Eda so much.
• DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE DANCE BATTLE
• Amity has fallen so hard and honestly? Same.
• OMG EPISODE 18! I think that was my first glimpse of Hunter! Lilith cursed Eda?! Eda sacrificing herself for Luz! The end credits with that haunting beating of the heart!
• Season 1 is done and dusted! All those feel good family and found-family moments. This show has so much heart. Gravity Falls is one of my favourite shows, and The Owl House seems to share a lot of its tropes and themes. I'm really loving it! I have so many things I should be doing today. Am I going to watch start watching Season 2 instead? Darn tootin.
• ENTIRELY NEW OPENING SEQUENCE!! I love it! Everyone's kicking ass! And Hunter is there!! And they kept the final scene with King on Luz's shoulders!
• They're setting up The Golden Guard as this new, mysterious, powerful rival for Season 2. But I know too much so every little glimpse of him has me sitting here grinning goofily like a proud mum at her son's soccer game.
• Gus is less smol. Kids grow up so fast. :(
• Finally met Amity's parents (beyond the shadows of them we saw in Amity's memory). Odalia sucks. But I officially love one tired dad.
• "Stay away from my Luz!" !!!!!!!
• Baby King is the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life. King is king of MY heart.
• The Hunter episode was everything I ever wanted. He must be protected at all costs.
• Huh. Tumblr gave me a veeerry different impression of what Darius was going to be like. Incoming plot twist?
• LUMITY IS A GO!
• Eda immediately destroying the stress toy because of her need for chaos whilst never once breaking eye contact with Bump nearly killed me. I choked on my tea. Worth it.
• Hunter has just learned the truth. Someone give this kid a hug.
• KING IS A TITAN?! How big is my sweet baby boy gonna get?
• Steve is so cool getting around in his Steve shirt, just doing Steve things. Haha, classic Steve.
• Luz and Amity just shared their first kiss and it was perfect. And I feel like the animation in that scene was extra nice? Maybe it was just me, but it just seemed beautifully bouncy.
• Once again, the near-silent end credits for part one of the finale haunt my soul. Part two now. Bring it on!
• ...Take it back. D:
• That musical montage to kick off Season 3 packed in SO MUCH STORY. Luz coming out as bi and introducing Amity to her mum was incredibly sweet. Vee (who I admit I was a little bit creeped out by until now) has captured my heart. And I absolutely adore the friendship between Gus and Hunter.
• "Time to go home, Flapjack." 😭 HAS THIS BOY NOT BEEN THROUGH ENOUGH?!
• Raine being hearteyes for Harpy Eda, Camila being hearteyes for King, everyone being hearteyes for Stringbean? Mood.
• Obsessed with Eda's haircut.
• My girl Willow has been carrying a lot. Her realising that she needs to let things out and lean on her friends was such a tender moment.
• Willow and Hunter linking their pinkies! ❤
• Not prepared for this amazing show to be over, but here we go...
• Brb, too busy crying.
• Still crying, gimme a minute.
• I was holding it together riiiight up until Flapjack's grave. "Thank you for finding me" broke me.
• Ok. So, generally speaking... this was pretty much everything I wanted in a finale. Happy, healthy relationships, hints at future pairings, redemption for characters who deserved it, and a big middle finger to those who didn't (which, honestly? Refreshing af).
• Eda and King going feral after losing Luz, the reveal of Titan Luz, and the trio coming together to defeat Belos was utter perfection. The animation was on point!
• I am not ashamed to admit I said "NOW EAT THIS, SUCKA!" with Luz.
• Also, the Dad bod, the "Bad Girl Coven" tshirt, and the "I loaf you" pun were exactly what I should've expected from King's dad.
• The time skip end credits were a wonderful way to let us see the characters we know and love, living their best lives. Hunter finally able to exist peacefully, making new palismans with his own little Bluejay on his shoulder (admittedly, I'd hoped he'd get a wolf, but the Bluejay did seem well-suited), Willow and Gus truly coming into their own, Lilith rocking the Harpy form (and hinting a possible romance with Steve?? EDIT: ignore that, I just learned that Lilith is aroace and I am so excited about it.), lil' gangly King growing bigger and stronger... well, I don't need to keep pointing things out. Suffice to say, there were so many little details that worked together to create a beautiful picture.
• In the span of three days, I've watched a show that so many people were obsessed with for years.
• I get it now.
• Thank you Dana Terrace and everybody involved with making The Owl House. The world needs more shows like this, with a great story, genuine characters, represention of people from all walks of life, and heartfelt messages.
• Excuse me while I go and wallow in misery over the fact that it's finished before I start consuming as many fanfics as I can find.
• OH! One final note as someone who learned far too much from tumblr before actually watching the show. I kept seeing fanart that seemed to depict a Hunter lookalike (so, Caleb) and an Eda lookalike, who apparently was Evelyn Clawthorne? CLAWTHORNE?? So here I am waiting for another flashback/memory episode that would lay it all out and do that big reveal BUT APPARENTLY THAT'S FANON??? Y'all had me thinking I'd missed an episode.

For those adults left behind...
The closer we get to For the Future, the more I find myself thinking about the adults left behind in the Boiling Isles. We obviously have no idea what's going on with the right now, or how much damage control poor King has been able to swing with the Collector. But I still find myself wondering how the CATs and the parents of the kids have been coping.
One of the major selling points I've mentioned when recommending this show to older audiences has gone along the lines of: The Owl House has a really strong, multi-generational cast where the middle-aged adults are doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to the actual business of political rebellion, as well as trying--and naturally failing--to shield their kids from its effects.
It still floors me that our adult heroes general intent going into S2 finale was to proceed with a damn near suicidal plot--and also to remove their kids from the thick of the fighting as gently as they could. Everything is on fire at this point. The plan they have is Rough. Everyone knows this. The anxiety and grim reality of it all was the major point of contention for Oh Titan Where Art Though with Eda and Luz--but that doesn't really prevent the fact that Eda gently encourages Luz to go to rescue Amity from the latter's parents in Clouds on the Horizon.
Re: Luz didn't really have a planned, direct part in what would have been the adult's sabotage of the draining spell. I definitely got the impression of a lot of relief from Eda here.
Tumblr media
And it works. Between this moment and when Luz and King are dropped off, Darius also has an opportunity to shift Hunter. It's unclear at this point how much contact the Darius and Hunter had post Hollow Mind (there are a lot of headcannons out there that suggest they've at least spoken a little over their scrolls, which make sense, given his interest in Hunter's well being?), but he's gone out of his way to contact a known fugitive and send him off with Eda's kids, AWAY from ground zero.
Eda and Darius' motivations here seem like they're rooted in harm reduction. Anything to get the kids away from the worst of it. But, knowing them, and the sort of lives they've been shown to lead, they're probably expecting something messy to happen regardless--although at least this way they know they did their best.
But how is that sitting with them now? Willow and Gus' parents (who probably had way less of an idea of what as happening at any given moment? I'd be amazed if Willow and Gus hadn't had to sneak off with Hunter to go with Luz but of course that's just speculation on my part). The last Eda and Darius knew, they sent their kids off to Blight Manor, and after everything exploded they have NO way to know what happened. Only that they're not able to answer their phones. They have no way to put together the possibility that the kids miraculously made it to the Human Realm. Last they knew, the kids where nowhere near the Head of the Titan.
Do they still have hope, after all this time, that the kids made it? Have any of them given up? Have they had any opportunities in the wake of whatever the Collector is doing to the BI? It's possible King's survival has been made clear to everyone, but there's no real way to know until we get a new promo or trailer or the thing airs.
As I've gotten older, it's naturally shifted how I relate to shows like this. However, Owl House is one of the few I can name with adult characters whose struggles are emotionally very grounded in reality, which makes the fear and horror of surviving a fantasy apocalypse so much heavier...since these are the sort of fears and horrors parents and caregivers experience all the time. Where are my kids? Are they okay? Have I failed them, even when I did my best?

how would your aus be like now that we know more stuff about the show?
oh god there would be sooooooo incredibly many changes. some I'm gonna leave alone unless directly asked but for some main ones atm--
Four Years: oh dear god so many changes. both just from learning more and also from the fact of being an au I came up with when I was 14 and I would never recommend anyone ever be the age of 14, my sincerest apologies to one luz noceda. I could make a whole other post about this but just to keep it simple lets sayyyyyy...first of all, Amity doesn't go into the Emperor's Coven. I personally still like the idea, but it doesnt really fit. theres helping her mom show off to customers, and then theres being forced into a Coven that wants to murder her crush and her crush's adoptive mom. Amity gives me the impressive of someone who would just start biting. Escaping Expulsion was Amity's "standing up to her mom" episode and I love that sm for her, I'm thinking maybe it could be redone in this au to also involve refusing to even consider the Coven? Dunno, but I know Amity doesn't join it, and neither do the twins.
Keene doesn't exist anymore, obviously. we're back on the Hunter show babey and his redemption arc (like most arcs here) take a much longer time to get on with. most remains the same, but he has a lot more interaction with Luz & the gang prior to Eclipse Lake. that episode becomes more of a "we were making so much progress but then the Panic Button hit in and everything collapsed in on itself" and then some tension between the gang of Hunter feeling shitty and not talking, the guys trying to figure out whats with him, and then Hollow Mind comes in an fucks up everything, as per usual
No more angsty fics about Camila missing her daughter because Vee's here now! yaaaaay. but this does mean Camila went a longer time without ever realizing her daughter was someone else, although I imagine at some point she WOULD feel that something was just Off. obviously shes a regular human shes not gonna think a shapeshifter took the place of her daughter, but shes gonna know something is Off and Strange but she cant put her finger on it and Luz seems happy...most of Yesterday's Lie remains the same but since it's at least been two years, maybe three, since Luz has seen her mom, she looks MUCH different than how Vee changed her appearance, so it throws Camila off quite a bit
smaller things will also stay, such as Luz becoming the Owlet and everyone being their own kinda brand of rebel. I'd have to figure out how to slide in Raine, Darius, Eberwolf, etc, somewhere in here. I'll figure it out
Beta: this one stays the most unchanged I think? granted I was updating it slightly more with updates in the show than Four Years. Hunter is still local nephew of principal and Belos's plan still involves killing all witches but its just in the "saving humanity from these evils" instead of "saving humanity from these evils and then going home". still unsure how the grimwalkers would tie into this, if my guy was just continuously making kids or if hes not actually a puritan and just a nasty old guy, and all the other golden guards are Hunter's older brothers? and he was possibly kidnapped when he was a baby or something? that part im the least sure on
Emperor: well, first of all, the duo of Amity & Luz becomes the trio of Amity, Luz & Hunter. none of them get along. Amity is constantly exasperated by Luz and her dumbassery & Luz thinks shes uptight and a tryhard at times. Luz and Hunter are dumbass on dumbass hatecrimes because Luz also thinks hes uptight but also a massive brat who thinks hes better than everyone & Hunter thinks shes annoying as hell and beneath him on every level. Hunter and Amity just take one look at each other, smell the Gifted Child With Parental Issues Trying To Be Perfect In Every Single Way on each other, and immediately drop into offensive hissing cat positions.
Luz and Hunter are the ones who get along first, mostly cause Luz getting brought over to the Emperor's Coven kind of guaranteed she'd run into Hunter first and they'd end up sticking to each other and realize they're massive nerds. Luz and Amity get along next through the power of Luz being stubborn and wlw. Hunter and Amity are last and technically it only really happens because they may be petty and spiteful but they can and will set that aside for one goal: being even pettier and even more spiteful to anyone being mildly annoying to Luz
This AU in particular hasn't had a lot of updates to it so theres a lot of room to work with her. Luz technically becomes friends with Willow and Gus because shes undercover trying to get new recruits (shes terrible at it). this also means that Hunter is more easily converted to the side of Oh Belos Fucking Sucks because he already has adopted sister Luz telling him to Run and her mildly okay girlfriend yoinking him along. course this also means it fucks up Luz even more to see that Hunter is a grimwalker and, per paraphrased word of Belos, she was the favorite. if it came down to it, Belos would've happily let Hunter die, hell, would've even done it on purpose. by virtue of being human, and Hunter being a clone, she was, in fact, given special treatment, and if anything went slightly wrong then Hunter would've died. these kids are fucked up

There's a lot of reasons that Amity and Darius interacting would be fun- they're both powerful abomination witches w/ complex relationships to Alador and Odalia, and it'd be interesting to see Amity progress her skills and to finally learn the drama that unfolded between Darius and the Blights back in the day.
But- and this is going into HC territory but I also think it's a valid read on their characters- Darius is also repeatedly shown to be someone who values individuality and freedom, seen mostly in his relationship with Hunter in any sport in a storm. And, personally, I HC that this trait influences his style of abomination magic! Uniquely, he makes himself the weapon by turning into goo instead of just making mindless drones that carry out the work for him, like most other abomination witches we see (especially Alador, who mass produces and optimizes these drones w/ tech). And when he does create more traditional abominations (like the messanger in ttbk) it's still clearly personalized after him. Nothing he makes is interchangeable with any other abomination, and he barely makes anything at all. Darius is practical but he also cares greatly about the people in his life and clearly values other people's personhood...which I think would make him a GREAT influence on Amity!
Until season 2 (and specifically escaping expulsion and reaching out) she'd had her own self expression and desires quashed in the name "reputation" and social standing by her parents. She has to look a certain way, act a certain way, talk to certain witches, and do certain things (be top student, join the EC, etc). After she meets Luz and the hexsquad, she started rebelling and pursuing things she actually wanted (re-befriending willow, ditching boscha and co, dating Luz and joining the brawl, etc) and I personally also think this is reflected in the development of her magic! she goes from creating pretty standard abominations in season 1 (that only ever progressed in terms of size and power, going from small ones in episode 3 to a fairly large one in episode 16) to focusing more on creating tools and constructs that assist her in battle (you can see this a lot in the eclipse lake fight- her goo acts as a shield, a rope, a bubble, a gauntlet, a knife, etc).
I think that not only would she be eager to impress Darius and learn more abt him (specifically his relationship with her parents), I think Darius would be secretly very happy to see Amity come into her own as her own person with her own way of doing things, despite everything she was taught- and heck, that might even be the first step towards Darius reaching out to Alador again. Darius may not like the man, but his kid turned out okay despite all the odds, and it's starting to make him wonder how things have changed since they were kids.
Obviously with the shortened run time, if we do get interaction between Amity and Darius, it'll likely only be for a single scene, and I wouldn't say it's something that's essential to the fabric of the story, the themes or the plot- you can wrap up the story w/o this kind of moment. BUT it's a very fun idea for me to rotate around in my mind 💜

What are your thoughts on Odalia and Alador? I was very disappointed by them.
When i first saw them, i thought they would be a fun villain couple who loved eachother and that they would represent the different types of parental abuse. Odalia being the more controlling, active abuser, and Alador being the more passive abuser.
When Reaching out came out, i was excited, because i thought it would be about Amity seeking approval from Alador because 'well he isnt as bad, so maybe i can gain his approval!' but then the message would be 'no, passive abuse is just as harmful and should not be glossed over and minimised.'
instead it turned Alador into a 'distant but caring dad', and then later, it emphasised this by making Odalia this insane idiot who didnt care about the genocide, stupidly thinking she would be exempt.
I agree! Just in general I agree! I'll first talk about Alador because honestly what was done with him was... Boring and pointless? At best, it's to give Amity resolution on at least one of her parents (which is questionable because I'd argue Reaching Out makes her goal... Murky. I don't know what she wants from her father honestly because her coven beliefs and her little speech at the end make it clear she doesn't give a single shit about his opinion or Odalia's so... *shrug* ) and maybe to give an answer against the Abomatons but neither of those ever paid off. At all. Ever. So instead you have someone who is just an extremely inconsistent character because it feels like the first three times we see him are three different versions of him and that is including Understanding Willow where he didn't give the impression to be a space cadet or not on board with what Odalia pushed. The fact that he's pushed to be incompetent also makes his writing like a lot of the guys in the show because he's hard to take seriously, Edric is similar, and he's just... there. Oh, I guess there's also the fact that he's clearly making robots instead of just golems, even to the point of mech suits, and I hate that because what the fuck is TOH's technology level? But also who cares when the writers clearly didn't? Speaking of: Odalia. Odalia is actually the worse of the two despite getting less screen time and I don't just mean because she's a worse person. Don't get me wrong: She is. She feels like some bad, animated 90s movie villain where money and personal gain is how they'll justify doing literally ANYTHING. But also Odalia is still bad at it since she thinks executing a child is a great way to sell HOME DEFENSE PRODUCTS. Because the death of their kids is definitely what you want on your customer's minds! Before I get into her real problem though: I also hate that she knows Belos' whole plan. Hunter doesn't know it. Darius, Eberwolf and Raine, all coven heads, had to sneak and steal the plans to get the information. Why the fuck, besides making her somehow even MORE evil, did Belos ever tell this bitch who probably never even asked what he was doing with the abomatons? Just... It's bad and dumb writing. But kind of like all of Odalia's writing: It still matters. Odalia is written like a one off villain while being AMITY BLIGHT'S MOM. And that is her real problem: How evil she is throws all of her children into question. The twins seem worried about their mom's retribution so why do they skip class? Why do they invite trouble that Amity, at the peak of her being busy with school, was able to notice? How do they get away with it? I made interesting and fun answers to that while the show doesn't even care about the question. And Amity is even worse. Her arc is thrown into question. How was she able to befriend Luz so easily when we know Odalia wouldn't approve of her? How was she able to throw away her old social group? How could she have been confident enough to bring Willow back as a friend? Why wasn't there ANY more worry about her mom when she knows her mom. She probably could have guessed her mom would try to kill Luz, or even Willow, if they became her friends and probably should have gotten livid at her abandoning her 'better' friends. Back when it was just Understanding Willow, one could make a case that maybe Odalia eased up on it since then. That's what I did in my story, The Power of Love. That the pressure Amity felt was at least as much in her own head as it was externally pushed on her. Things that would have been WAY more interesting than what we got. Because what we got with the Blight family as a whole is a bunch of characters who don't make sense, flip their characters on a dime and are just trash as a whole unit. And that's from the family that was BURSTING with potential at the end of S1. And I will actually go "Hey, if you want a better Blight family, check this out," because I'm still incredibly proud of how I wrote them in my monstrous first story for TOH.

We will be married one day... || part 3 || Aladarius
Word count: 2501
Note: Fic takes place pre Hollow mind (S2E16)
FIRST PART < - - -        PREVIOUS PART < - - -
- - - - - - - - - -
"Hi" he said quietly and gestured towards her, to tell her that she can come in. Amity closed the door behind her and took a sit next to Alador. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you still be in school?" he asked.
"According to schedule, yes, but one of teachers is ill so they let us go home earlier" she explained. She placed her hand on Alador's shoulder.
"I... I heard your argument with mom" she started.
- - - - - - - - - -
Darius lay down on his bed and covered his head with a pillow. He could feel his hands slightly shaking from growing anger.
Maybe he was too harsh on Alador? No. No, he wasn't. What was he thinking? That he can just come here after years of no contact, share few nice words and make him his again? No, it won't work like that.
He squeezed the pillow and groaned. Then he threw it through the whole room. It hit the wall and then the floor. Darius turned around to hide his face in the duvet.
Being with Alador in the same room, so close yet so far away hurt him almost physically. His heart beating faster and butterflies in his stomach made Darius even more mad. He had no right to cause reaction like that. Seventeen years passed since he got married. Darius should have forgotten about him lots of time ago. But he didn't. He couldn't get him out of his head, and, what was more problematic, out of his heart.
Coven's head looked at the outline of ring, visible through his glove. Alador was wearing it, too... For a second his heart felt softer, but turned to rock-hard right away. It meant nothing. Cheap trick. He could put it on just to impress him. How could he know if he wore it before, as well? He probably didn't.
Darius groaned again and frowned, tightly closing his eyes. One part of him wanted to reunite with Alador. To regain his friendship or even more. Another part felt betrayed, angry at him and just sad. He knew, that agreement stated "if they won't find anyone". He did nothing wrong. He could find himself a wife. But being so close to having Alador all for himself made him bitter about his marriage. Also, he didn't have to stop meeting with him after changing martial status. They could remain friends, couldn't they? Darius would rather keep him in his life in different role than losing him completely. Sadly, the choice was never his.
Or maybe was it? If he conffesed to him earlier, maybe relationship with Odalia would never happen. At the other hand, why would he find someone else if he loved him? He had to misjudge his feelings in school. Or it was just a silly crush. That thought almost pressed tears out of Darius' eyes, because for him, it was much more. He loved him and was ready to dedicate his whole life to him.
Well, back then, at least. Now he wasn't that naive nor desperate. He could deal with blunt pain and dormant love for years. He won't forgive Alador right away after struggling for so long. He have lost his chance when he stopped contacting him.
Another thought came to Darius' mind. Scribbles on plans. He never replied to these as well and he had to notice them. Only Alador could correct these plans. There's no way that someone else did it for him so he wouldn't see the notes. He had to choose not to answer them. It feed his weakening anger again.
He couldn't be important in any way to Alador, if he ignored so many of his attempts to reconnect. Darius sat on the bed, took of his glove and then ring. He raised his hand, to throw it to the other side of the room, but he couldn't. He stopped in half movement.
He put the ring back on his hand. He lay down again and let the tears flow freely. Soon the whole space under his face was damp.
* * *
Alador came back home, feeling defeated. What was he thinking? That Darius will greet him with open arms? They haven't seen each other for a really long time, he couldn't tell precisely. Darius had a right to be mad at him. He stopped trying after marrying Odalia. She said "no meetings" and he listened. She wasn't that annoying when he obeyed her.
But it wasn't a good excuse. He was responsible for his own actions and could do something else, even if it meant choosing the harder way. He always went on that easier path and didn't want to turn on more complicated one. Now he had to face the consequences.
He spent another hour or two in his workshop, trying to distract himself by working. He thought that it will be easy. His focus always jumped from one thing to another, so he couldn't overthink anything too much. This time his thoughts were leading him to Darius every time.
Alador left the room when he heard Odalia's voice. She prepared dinner and wanted him to come before it gets cold. He entered kitchen a minute later.
"How did the business meeting went?" she asked after he took a sit. Food smelled great. Well, Odalia might be not the best wife, but at least she could cook.
"Fine. Technicians were happy to see something new" he answered. Well, most of abominators were quite similar. New one wasn't innovative, but had few extraordinary things which could please bored engineers.
Alador glanced at Odalia, resting his head on his hand. He saw something weird in her eyes, but he couldn't tell what was it about.
"Good. Coven's head was there, too?" she raised her eyebrow. It was a little... Suspicious.
"Uhm, yes. He was there. It's his job" he looked away. Why was she asking about it? Isn't it obvious? He stared at a plate.
"Is this why you wear that ring again?" she asked with a victorious smirk.
Ring. He forgot about the ring. How could he forget!? What to do now? He couldn't lie, she saw it on his finger. How could he explain?
"I... I just found it when I was doing the cleaning" he finally said, while still looking away from his wife.
"I know what's going on here, Alador. You could lie to me. Many times" she started, moving closer to him. "But I know the truth anyway. I can see that you didn't get over him. You never did and I'm afraid that you never will. Even if you won't, you have to remember, that you are married to me, not him" she frowned.
"I'm just wearing a ring which I received from my childhood friend. It's not a crime" he tried to defend himself.
"The ring came with a promise, am I right? It's not a friendship bracelet kind of thing" it was a bluff, but Alador couldn't know. No one ever told her what the rings meant. Brunet's lack of answer was like a confirmation for her.
"As I thought. Blights always keep their part of a deal. Remember about it" she added.
"I never asked for being a Blight" he answered. He wasn't sure what he actually meant by it. He didn't choose to be a Blight, but he didn't hate his family or something like that. He just felt frustrated that his wife tried to use their surname to make him fullfil her will.
"Your parents would be really sad if they heard you" tone of her voice caused him to cringe. "Are you ashamed of your family? Your surname?"
"I'd love to have Darius' surname. Not mine" he didn't know why he attempted to confront her. There was no point in lying anymore, because he lost hope that he will ever reunite with him. Darius didn't want it, so Odalia couldn't get in a way. There won't be an occasion. He won't try.
"I don't care" her voice sounded terrifying. "You are my husband. I won't let you ruin our good name. I won't let you prove, that I'm not good enough for you!" Alador had a feeling, that she will hit the table with her hand any second, but she didn't.
"Oh, so it's like that?" he asked in an oddly calm manner. "Our name? Don't you mean yours? You do not care that witches would call me a cheater. You are afraid, that they will call you a bad wife" he slowly shook his head.
"Of course I meant our good name, both yours and mine, because we are connected by marriage and we are-"
"Don't lie" he cut her off. "If you are worried that others won't call you a victim in this situation, then you know really well that you are terrible wife" he turned around, leaving Odalia speechless.
"But, you know what? You would convince them. You are extraordinary manipulator. They would find me guilty after few words" he added before leaving the room. Odalia couldn't even argue. Alador was right. She was worried about her good name. They weren't one as a married couple. She could think only about Alador or herself. Or. Not and.
Scientist got back to his workshop, hoping to find some peace in here. He covered his face with his hands. He felt like his thoughts were thousands of wild animals, running in circles, colliding, falling down, fighting. Complete chaos. How was he supposed to calm down with this in his head?
"Uhm... Dad?" familiar feminine voice reached him. He turned his head and saw his younger daughter, Amity.
"I'm really sorry that you did. You shouldn't have to worry about our problems. You have your own" he looked at his daughter. She looked worried.
"I know. What I wonder is... Do you... Do you want to leave mom for someone else?" Alador could see fear in her eyes. It took him a moment, but he connected the dots.
"I won't leave you with her, don't worry about it. I wouldn't ever leave you" he felt sudden need to hug his daughter. This time Amity accepted the hug. Right after their reunion, she refused to hug him. They only shook hands. Alador understood this. Baby steps. They didn't have good relationship before, after all. But now they had enough time to create bonds and hugging didn't feel awkward anymore.
"In fact, I... I won't even talk to that someone else. He doesn't want to see me at all" he added after few seconds. Amity looked at his face.
"I also didn't have best contact with Luz at the beginning, if it will cheer you up" she smiled slightly. Alador also smiled. His daughter was amazing. It's sad, that he never wanted to see it before. It was easier to lock in workshop with work, leaving bringing up children to Odalia. Worst choice ever.
"We were close friends in the past" he started, tapping his fingers on the desk. "But I stopped trying. It's my fault that he is mad at me. I should've fight for a person I truly loved" he sighed. "I shouldn't worry you with all of this. You are just a kid, I can't expect handling your parents' problems from you" he added.
"I can handle more than you think" she looked concerned while listening to him, but now smiled again. "And, what is more important, I want to help you, dad. You are trying really hard to understand me, Edric and Emira better. We want to do something for you, too. Even if our relationship was far from perfect before, now it's different. And what's now counts" he smiled weakly. His daughter was so smart.
"I really appreciate your will to help me, Mittens, but I'm afraid that it is impossible. I'm married to your mother. Now I have to deal with consequences of my previous actions" he sighed again.
"Maybe we'd be able to arrange little meeting for you two, so you could talk?" Amity's eyes were still full of hope. He didn't understand why it became so important to her. A moment ago she was terrified that he will leave, wasn't she?
"You know, miss Eda knows Raine, Raine is a coven head like Darius so they have to meet from time to time. Maybe we could get to Darius through them?" she wondered.
"He doesn't want to talk to me. I tried today. He was angry at me, that I attempted. I should leave him alone and forget" he answered, looking at the floor. It wasn't getting them anywhere. Talking about it was pointless. Everything was already done.
"Umm... It will get better, you'll see" she patted his shoulder. "I've also lost hope for better relationship with parents but well... You could change. Maybe he can change his mind, too. I'll be in my room if you needed me" she said, hugged him shortly and left.
Alador got lost in thoughts again. Maybe Amity was right? Isn't giving up taking an easy way again? If he had enough time to talk to Darius, maybe he could explain him everything... There's no guarantee that he will forgive him, but he will know how it went, at least.
Maybe it's time to visit another school time friend.
* * *
Amity locked door behind her and sat near the window. She didn't know what should she think about everything she heard. She had a feeling sometimes, that her family isn't loving or caring at all, but she would never guess that it was because her dad loved someone else, not her mother.
She knew how it felt to be stuck in a awful situation without a way out. Luz helped her escape her nightmare. Would Darius help her dad? He wasn't happy, but on the other hand, he made a choice. He married her mother, right? She couldn't choose in which family she will born. So are they situations similar or not really?
And should she help at all? It's about their parents breaking up, after all. But something was telling her, that Darius would be much better than Odalia and after getting to know how good it is to actually talk to a parent if needed, she would love to have more than one person who can give her an advice.
"You look worried, sis" she heard behind her back. She turned around. Emira and Edric were standing in the door.
"I thought that I locked it" she answered, rising her eyebrow.
"It's not a problem for us. We have our ways to get in. What's the matter?" Emira came closer and sat next to Amity. Edric closed the door and locked it again. Then he said closer to sisters.
"Well" she sighted. "I've heard parents talking and... That's a lot to process" she squeezed the edge of her tunic.
"We are here to listen. We have time" Edric said, smiling at Amity. She responded with a weak smile.
She breathed in and out and started explaining.

i think about darius and his mentorship under the prev golden guard sometimes
- originally, they started out as a mentor/mentee duo, much like amity and lilith in covention. Darius would have been an emperor's coven protege which i think is neat!
- darius was selected as an emperor's coven protege due to his skill in magic, and he gladly seized the opportunity - it would be good for his future! this was, however, also a strain on his relationship with his schoolfriends - with his mentorship, he just. Didn't have the time to hang out with alador and odalia, so they just started drifting apart.
- gg was initially very aloof during darius' training, very Proper Mentor, and was pretty strict with darius at the start of his mentorship. Darius, at this point, was trying to be very by-the-book with his abomination magic to win the approval of his mentor.
- (of course, he experiments a lot on his own time. he just keeps to Proper spellwork whilst training)
- this did.... not work. gg (from darius' whole attitude in ASiaS) values autonomy, and found darius' whole "perfectly by-the-book" attitude frustrating. Eventually, gg decides to goad darius into being more creative with his spellwork, possibly via a spar, and darius ends up using his "turn into abomination goop" move to pull a surprise attack on gg and it goes... okay. He doesn't win the spar, but gg is truly and genuinely impressed with him.
- also, darius would have learnt other types of magic from the gg given that the emperor's coven allows all types of magic! multiclassing, baby. However, it also becomes fairly apparent that darius favours abomination magic to a ridiculously heavy extent - he starts questioning whether he should be gunning for a spot in the EC at all, or if the abomination coven would be better for him. gg assures him that the EC would be better for having him in it, regardless of his personal magic style preferences
- as darius gets older and becomes more of an Older Teen as opposed to a Literal Child, he and gg's dynamic morphs from Strictly Mentor/Mentee to something more akin to an older brother/younger brother kind of vibe - there's still that professional edge to their relationship, but it's waning.
- by the time darius is nearing graduation, the two of them are basically besties, and get up to all sorts of shenanigans together that their younger selves could barely have imagined. if you'd told 13-year-old darius that he would one day be sneaking around the Emperor's Castle to pull pranks on the coven scouts with his stiff, formal mentor, he'd have called you insane.
- gg dies approximately two weeks before the emperor's coven tryouts. darius is unclear on the circumstances - he gets a harried note or two from his mentor that he's found something big, that he needs to look into it so he'll be gone for a while but he wishes darius good luck with the tryouts and can't wait to work alongside him in the coven-
- darius, in perhaps not his most rational moment, does not attend the emperor's coven tryouts. it's a move he regrets quite a bit, after the fact - a foolish impulse decision borne of grief for his mentor - but part of him is glad that he doesn't have the constant reminder of his dead mentor hanging over his head and burned onto his wrist.
- it's a moot point, anyways, a good few years down the line. he makes coven head young, and that's a step up from coven scout in most people's book, anyways. he meets eberwolf, and they become fast friends.
- in the end, he's grown past it - he's grieved and he's moved on.
- that doesn't mean he doesn't feel a pang of sorrow when he sees this kid - the emperor's nephew, he says - in a shiny golden mask, kneeling as he oh-so-proudly inherits that staff from the emperor.
- but that's neither here nor there.

I finished majority of my assignments and I just got home from work so, amillow (+huntlow) prediction/ hc/ fic for labyrinth runners.
*somewhere during the ep*
“I don’t get it Willow, how can you trust him? After everything he’s done to you, me, Luz, Gus and your team?” Amity says in an accusatory tone.
“He stood up for us against Darius when he thought he was going to hurt us. He’s not as bad as you think Amity,” Willow says in a neutral tone of voice.
Amity pouted at her a bit. “Just because you guys are talking on penstagram doesn’t mean he deserves to be trusted. I tried to help him back in eclipse lake and not only did he attack me, he threatened Luz! I don’t want him to hurt you too.”
Willow is starting to feel a little frustrated. “And just because you had a bad encounter with him doesn’t mean he’s a bad person-“
“You’re not understanding Willow! (No pun intended) He can’t be trusted!”
“No you’re not the one who’s understanding Amity! You talk about Hunter leaving a bad impression like you haven’t broke your friendship with me because I was a late bloomer and picked on me for years! So don’t start acting like you didn’t betray me too!”
Amity face widened with shock from Willow’s outburst, but she also felt hurt. Willow was also taken aback from her sudden outburst and felt tears forming in her eyes.
“Amity, I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean-“
“No, you’re right. I-I thought that we were progressing after what happened a couple months ago, but….it looks like we still have a long way to go…..I just want us to be friends again, and it upsets me that you chose to quickly forgive Hunter over me and-I don’t know I just-,” Amity pauses, feeling the tears well up in her eyes.
“Amity, it isn’t like that at all. I do want to be your friend again it’s just…..I just need more time. I do acknowledge that you’re trying and I’m thankful that you’re doing better but I’m still hurt Amity. Hunter on the other hand, I wouldn’t necessarily say I completely forgive him too, it’s also a work in progress, just like us.” Willow paused for a moment and sighed.
“Look Amity, both you and Hunter were scared and manipulated, and that caused you guys to hurt others, including me. I gave you both a second chance because I know deep down, you aren’t bad people and I think you guys deserve it,” Willow says with a teary smile.
Amity sniffles a bit and quickly wipes her eyes,” I know sorry isn’t going to make for everything I’ve done to you and I’m a hypocrite…..it’s unfair of me to project onto Hunter since we’re basically in the same boat, but I don’t know…..I don’t think I can forgive him…..especially when he threatened Luz……”
”I know you can’t forgive Hunter for what he did and it will take time but in my opinion, he’s worth giving a second chance. And you are too." Willow smiles to herself and Amity notices.
A sudden noise interrupts them.
“Anyways, as much as I would like to continue, we have to go!” Willow says as she holds her hand out to Amity. Amity hesitates a bit but she grabs it and they’re both running down the darken halls of Hexside, hoping that they’ll find Luz and Hunter safe.

So I am crazy tired and this may not be well thought through and just rambles but here is more with roleswap/ageswap AU idea (Here originally)
Where Eda is the human who comes to isles (maybe more to escape overbearing mother/maybe camp like Luz)
She meets the bird lady (not sure what as Luz palismen not revealed yet.
But just this is how the Eda Raine relationship would work.
As Raine is swapped with Amity would maybe have the rivalry but treated very differently.
(So far in AU swapping the Hexside students with the coven leads and currently have Darius and Eberwolf swapped with Willow and Gus)
So Darius or Eberwolf being stuck on the bard track. (I like Darius just the idea of the interaction being
Eda:So you need help?
Darius: Me need help? Preposterous…
Eda:…
Darius:…
Eda:…
Darius:…please)
So Eda helps fake what Bard magic does and poor Raine who is both the best student in the bard track but still anxious as hell, is freaking out because that wasn’t magic what are you doing? WHAT IS CAUSING THIS???
So first impressions aren’t great.
Raine doesn’t so much get angry as gets frustrated.
They’re not a bully or in that crowd they’re just treated as the weird quiet kid whose really smart and the best and everyone thinks they think they’re to good for them, when really Raine’s just super socially awkward, and any friendship falling apart is just due to the increasing anxiety and pressure form parents/others as so naturally talented and that isolating them.
When they meet they don’t try and have a witches duel, Hunter and Luz just start sibling bickering way quicker than Lilith and Eda so those two are already being idiots and Raine does get upsetting because Eda was just playing around and not taking things seriously (and also because Eda’s so fine being the centre of attention and it’s just not fair) the two don’t duel but they have a talk and Eda shows her Light spell and there’s definitely an understanding.
(Meanwhile everyone’s just watching the head of the emperors coven and the birdlady have what has descended into a sibling fight with them trying to give each other noogies...no one knows what to do, should we stop them or...what? Their palismens are literally just sitting there watching the chaos unfold no ones used a spell in a while)
The two fall pretty quickly into blushing messes, it’s not Ed and Em that cause shenanigans but the BATS who are the young witches Raine tutors, and have adopted as their big sibling.
The two very quickly fall into pining blushing messes though.
Also just disaster trio of Eber, Eda and Darius. Mainly Eber and Eda causing chaos while Darius tries to act he’s above this and ‘why am I friends with you’ but then just adds so much more to the chaos.

I really like that we got to see what the actual magical coven types can do this season because a lot of them were told to us but not much was actually revealed about what they can do, or what the could do in the first season wasn’t very impressive. most of them were self explanatory like the plant, potion, healing, oracle, and illusion was pretty self explanatory with knowledge fo other fantasy series, but the rest were more confusing.  The construction coven we were told used power glyphs, be we also find out that there also seems to have some form of earth bending or earth/stone magic.  The others from our first introduction seemed lacking compared to the rest.
Like with Beast Keeping we seen Viney have her griffin fight the basilisk in the “First Day,” but it seemed more like her pet doing what she wanted instead of actual magic they have in the show.  I don’t think she did any circles with her griffin to command them, when they combo attacked the Basilisk and I think that was the only time we saw a beast keeper in the show until season 2.  It was fine, but it seemed like care for magical creatures in HP, something neat but odd to have it be one of your 9 major powers when it didn’t seem to take any magic, just heart.  But this season we see from Gwen that Beast Keepers can command magical beasts, which could have been assumed but the way she used those bees against the gremlins was a huge display of magic, not just animal handling skills.  And in the most recent episode “Eda’s Requiem”  we see Eberwolf, the coven leader of the beast keepers demonstrate a huge assortment of powers that we haven’t seen before.  It’s shown that she can summon magical creatures, dig through the dirt like a mole, augment her sight to track foot prints, and have a war form for herself with extra claws and teeth when about to fight.  In dnd terms it looks like beast keepers are actually like rangers or druids, they can summon magical beasts in aid and combat, but additionally buff themselves with the abilities of magical beasts to make themselves more powerful. That’s a lot more than care for magical creatures as it was demonstrated in HP.
We also see a lot more of the Abomination casters abilities in season 2 which I love because personally I felt it was a very lacking magical subset, probably the least impressive in the show in my opinion from season 1.  For almost all of season 1 we only see abominations being used as slow mindless slaves, that aren’t particularly strong or durable.  Luz was able to destroy a bunch of them with punches when she tried to escape Hexide with Willow and Willow was able to tear through a bunch of them with the plants she created from a single seed.  Amity who is the best student at Hexide and in the abomination coven has her biggest show of strength and abilities when buffed by a power glyph is to create a really big abomination, one that still got tossed around by spells Eda put in the ground as traps.  It’s not until ‘Wing it like Witches,’ that we see Amity create a massive arm that can stop a guillotine ax, that we see any real creative application to abomination magic, and that’s the only instance, done by Amity who is again, the best student at Hexide.  It’s understandably useful creating an army of mindless servants that can do simple tasks for day to day things, but seemed lacking compared to what the other covens can do.  But then we see in “Escaping Expulsion” with all the abomination themed weapons that Alador created some more creative applications of them, especially with the Abomiton creating weapons, a far more durable Abomination that can tank more than one hit as well as move with some sort of intention and speed when attacking a foe.  And now in “Eda’s Requiem,” we see Darius, the head of the Abomination Coven, and his application of Abomination magic was incredibly creative and powerful compared to what we’ve seen so far like with Eberwolf and her Beast Keeping magic.  He was able to set a trap with the Abomination Goo, capable of holding 3 people easily, he was able to teleport said people at least a mile away to the conformitorium easily, he was able to use the Abomination Goo as a way to travel quickly through the forest, and perhaps most impressively he was able to merge with his abomination goo to become a giant power ranger monster form with the ability to create weapons.  We didn’t get to see much of his abilities because Eda and Rain’s combo spell took out everything in the area, including them, but it was still something to see.
Bard magic still seems to hard to pin down, I’m not sure if we saw any examples of bardic magic in the first season.  From ‘Eda’s Requiem’ it’s obviously music based, as could be assumed, but other than that, it seems to be anything you can do with music, completely different from the other 8.  Most of what we see in the episode seem to be like the enchantment school in dnd, being able to put people to sleep, control the movements of people against their will, and other mental magic things.  However it an also do other things like make objects and people float in the aura created when they play music, summon physical objects like instruments out of thin air (granted we’re not sure how much and what was Eda’s curse interfering with her attempts at bard magic vs what normal bards can do).  Rain, perhaps because they are the head of the bard coven, seems to be able to do a lot with their bardic magic that other bards might not be able to do,  being able to control objects (ex when they made the Emperor’s coven Captain’s cloak dr strange themselves), disrupt another person’s circle they summon to cast spells, being able to send out a shockwave of sound from their lute to maybe use as echolocation to scout an area out, and was even able to use their music as a cutting weapon when they escaped Darius’ Abomination trap.
Bardic magic also seems unique in other ways compared to the other magics we seen, like it has an actual weakness, if the target can’t hear the spells being played it seems like they’re unaffected.  I suppose that might be similar to the weakness of illusion magic where it only seems to affect the visual and auditory senses (so far at least), and can’t physically touch you so if you know about it you can mentally power your way through, but no hearing = unaffected seems a bigger drawback and an actual weakness.  It also seems to be a type of magic that doesn’t require a circle to cast spells, Rain was able to summon instruments with their circles, but most of the spells bards cast seem to be without circles at all as long as it’s played through an instrument (though maybe the items themselves have circles carved into them or something to allow bard magic to be used through them, like oracles in their crystal balls, but I can only talk about what I’ve seen and what I can speculate.  It seems foggy since when Eda initially played her instrument she wondered if her magic was back only for the objects she was levitating to fall the second she stopped so maybe extra confusing).  Granted some spells seem to not require circles in the show, but for the most part the rules seem to be you need a circle to cast most spells, ever since Eda told Luz about them in the ‘Intruder.’  So far it also seems to be maybe more powerful witches don’t need circles for their spells, Eberwolf and Darius were able to go into their powered up forms without casting a spell or traveling under their magic, but Eberwolf needed a circle to summon her rat worm and give her eyes the ability to track something that didn’t leave footprints.  Regardless, the last unique thing about Bard magic that I’ve noticed is that so far it’s the one magic type that Eda seems to be able to cast even thought the rest of her innate magic seems sealed away due to her curse.  She’s still able to use glyph magic like Luz, but Luz as a human with no magic bile sack can’t do witch magic like most on the boiling isles. Even if she doesn’t seem to have control of it and it’s affected by her curse, it is bard magic, like the other bard witches we’ve seen in the episode use.  (Eda and Lilith can also create potions another form of coven magic , but I’m not sure if the potion coven is actual casting magic or more Alchemy and application of ingredients, more science magic than spellcasting)
I’m just really glad we see more applications of the magic system in the Owl House because I felt it was lacking in the first season.  It made sense because Luz as a human can’t learn the same magic witches in the Demon World can do, and she had to learn about glyphs to get power, so we as an audience learned about glyphs and only got the gist of the coven system magic through the bare minimum of appearances.  Not to mention that the people Luz was around to use magic were either other kids who had no reason to be skilled or super creative, members of the Emperor’s coven who in addition to the nine forms of magic taught on the boiling Isles also know other magic that doesn’t fit in the 9 types, or Eda and Lilith who can do all forms of magic because Eda never had her power sealed away by a coven and Lilith was a member of the Emperor’s coven until the finale.  The world of the Owl House is so unique and creative, it felt like a shame that the actual magic system seemed stale and uncreative.  If that was a point since the coven system itself seems to be a bad thing, that would make sense, but it seemed odd all the same.  Season 1 was great but it had a lot of things lacking and seemed to lean too hard on Luz doing the stranger in a strange land trope, that it limited itself to what it could show the audience.

My thoughts on Them’s The breaks, Kid
Obligatory spoiler warning
- That tornado glyph on a larger scale could be a super powerful weapon.
- The water glyph is both foreshadowing to the events in the labyrinth because it has the same magic glow to it, but that also implies that it’s actually a great spell for knocking people off their feet.
- I could SEE the PTSD flashback Eda got at the petrification glyph.
- Raine as a teen is ridiculously adorable.
- I always guessed that there was something up with the whistling over the tea, and I knew that it was weird how Raine was willing to drink it at all and what was done to make them willing in the first place, but I never guessed the two things were connected.
- THE HANDSHAKE.
- Eda: I’ve only known Raine for a day, but if anything happened to them, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
- The drink changing spell gives me the impression that Raine is actually good at cooking and cooking related magic and I am here for it.
- I don’t curse often here, but TERRA NEEDS TO FUCK OFF.
- On the topic of Terra, how old is that woman?! She looked like she was in her late twenties early thirties in the flashback.
- The nickname “Sprout” makes me physically nauseous and I would not be opposed to never hearing it again.
- Bards don’t need spell circles, an instrument, or even their hands to cast magic. They just need to be able to make noise.
- Raine weaponizing their ability to whistle is incredible.
- Wait does this mean Raine recognized Luz in Follies? What would they have done if they’d caught her?!
- It’s so obvious that Raine loathes Terra. Like, the last time I saw anyone give a look like that to anyone, it ended in a fist fight.
- The implication that even if Terra had somehow wiped Raine’s memory of the last month, they still have the childhood traumas memories of her.
- They didn’t have the earring at that time! I wonder if it was a gift from Eda.
- Raine starting Eda’s apple blood addiction.
- Principal Faust needs to no.
- Eda and Lilith were growing apart even before the duel noooo
- Eda popping the stress toy will never not be funny to me. She is chaotic 24/7.
- Eda and Raine are so sweet together.
- DARIUS HELPING RAINE REBEL.
- Raine feels so bad about putting Eda in danger.
- They’ve known her this long and yet they don’t understand that she won’t stop trying to help them.
- Raine faking side effects of the “tea” implies that they know what’s in the drink and figured out the side effects specifically to keep up the act.
- I don’t like the sound of that draining spell. “Requires nine powerful witches.” “Eclipse.” “Center of spell circle.” Thanks, I hate it.
- Raine and Amity, two members of the “trying to keep my girlfriend out of prison” club. Who else shall be added?
- What situation was Raine in as a child where they thought “this tastes so bad… let me change it on a molecular level”???
- Might add more to this post as I lose sleep thinking about this episode. Good day.

Any Sport in a Storm is a half-hour long Meet Cute™ and them’s the facts.
In all seriousness, it was an awesome episode. We see Hunter continuing to evolve his thought process from whatever he thinks will please Belos to what he thinks will please himself. He’s developing independence, and I am here for it.
Love the cameo of all the coven heads at the beginning. They’re all animated and moving instead of just posing still for three seconds. We also got that little nod to Terra controlling guiding Raine from Follies. I’m still hoping we can see the other coven heads we haven’t gotten to know yet (Healing, Illusion, Potions, Oracle, and Construction) in action.
The return to Hexside was welcome. It was cameos from the students galore there. I was ecstatic to see Barcus at the Hexes Hold ‘Em club. They didn’t forget our favorite oracle-potion doggo. Viney and Jerbo featured prominently for a portion of the episode, which was awesome. Maybe Jerbo can join the Flyer Derby team as a way of patching things up with Viney. There’s also the jerk Abominations professor continuing to make Willow’s life difficult, can’t forget him. We also have a name for him now.
So, Skara isn’t just a Grudgby athlete, she’s into a lot, which is cool. Should have guessed she was a sports nut with how into the Grom fight she was way back.
Gus finally got to play in a sport instead of sitting on the sidelines and waving flags. That made me so happy because I hated him sitting out during the Grudgby match against Boscha. My man continues to impress.
Hunter and Willow’s interactions were so amazing. I’ve seen the parallels between them and wanting to prove they’re full witches and not half-witches. Plus someone pointed out the Flyer Derby picture Willow had was of her dads, so there could potentially be some romantic history repeating with them.
Darius is still a jerk, but he seems to be more of a reasonable jerk. Liking how there’s so many sides to each character in that we see how they can be good sometimes and also bad at other times. Him intending to release the kids and their palismen, and fixing the stitching on Hunter’s cloak was a nice gesture. Now if only they would confirm that he’s Gavin’s father, I’d be completely happy with the character.
Luz and Amity’s side plot was fun. It turned out to be a huge scam by the pig demon with a not-even-scary name, but it was fun. They really had me going with Tiny Nose potentially being the author of Good Witch Azura; it would have made a brilliant meta moment with Tiny Nose being the author considering she’s voiced by the person who created the show, our rightful empress Dana. Oh well, it was fun to see a cameo from Mattholomule too.
That ending, tho. Luz and the gang have a LOT to talk about, mostly about a bad but sad boy.
