anyway now I'm going to talk about doctor who for a few hours: single episodes people should watch if they only watched 10 and wanna try some newnewwho
5x7 Amy's Choice: standalone where the doctor and his companions have to choose between reality and a dream world but which is which? peak whimsical 11 era if you like this give the 11th doctor a go
5x10 Vincent and the Doctor: everyone everywhere has suggested this and im sure you've already seen it beautiful beautiful standalone
5x14 (Christmas Special) sci-fi version of A Christmas Carol with flying sharks and opera
6x4 The Doctor's Wife: weird, dark and wonderful standalone penned by Neil Gaiman where the tardis get sucked into a junkyard outside of the universe and weird gaimany shit ensues
6x11 The God Complex: doctor who does the shining with a big religious metaphor and a space minotaur. low budget underrated ep which delves into the flaws of 11th doctor and his choice of a young facade
Series 7 is honestly a bit messy and all requires pre knowledge to understand wtf is going on but 7x12 The Crimson Horror is a campy mark gatiss penned horror romp if you fancy some silly victorian gothic
8x4 Listen: doctor who's most philosophical ep with very few answers, don't watch for the plot watch for the tension and metaphors on fear itself. Odd, ambitious and strange. 12 is abrasive and flawed but if you dig the darker tone s8 is a go to
8x8 The Mummy on the Orient Express. literally an egyptian mummy haunting the orient express IN SPACE. Oddly despite the fantasical premise it's also a great episode to get to grips with this harsher, darker doctor and the complicated relationship he has with Clara. The most 12 of episodes
8x13 Christmas Special: Last Christmas. Great big sci-fi christmas mind fuck that's weirdly emotional and stars nick frost as seemingly... actual santa??
Series 9 is a heavily interlinked series with mainly all double parters so hard to recommend a standalon but...
9x11 Heaven Sent is a masterpiece a single ep starring only Peter Capaldi in mainly monologue as we explore an existential eternal prison. Experimental and strange and deeply rewarding.
10x11 World Enough and Time: The Tardis lands on a huge ship with hundreds of floors. A nearby black hole distorts time so that the lower levels are experiencing centuries of civilisation while the upper floors pass mere seconds. You may struggle to understand what's going on in the wider series plot but this one is gloriously bleak body horror and industrial sci-fi. If you enjoy this go back and watch the season
11x6 Demons of the Punjab: the era of 13 has its issues but god did they go hard on the historicals and politics. A beautiful story about family, identity, loss and the horrors of the partition of India during colonial rule
12x8 The Haunting of Villa Diodati. Again with the historicals. So what really went down during that dreadful summer of 1816 where Mary Shelly writes Frankenstein
The 13th season I.... ??? yeah so anyway

wait wait you like minari too? your taste is impecabble<3 just wondering, do you have any other favourite movies/recs?
sat on this bc I wanted to give a detailed response lolz I love minari so much I thought about youn yuh-jung's performance in that film for such a long time after watching it she was so gorgeous and so phenomenal and when she won the best supporting actress Oscar I about lost my damn mind, so so deserved
other things I love in no particular order:
-the favourite (I love Yorgos Lanthimos' work the lobster is another favorite and his new one coming out poor things looks AMAZING and like it was constructed specifically with all of my own personal tastes in mind - I'm so excited for it and need to read the book immediately)
-not to be a film bro but interstellar is top two of my favorite films of all times idc Nolan is a master and I watch and love everything he makes (ive watched tenet like 10 times and still have no idea wtf is going on and I LIKE THAT about it )
-not to be a basic bitch now but pride and prejudice is my favorite movie ever ever I watch it at least once a month every single month it'll never get old and yes I do cry at the end every time
-to go hand in hand with my love of historical romance novels I am also a great lover of period dramas obviously I love Emma (2020) so much it's a gorgeous work of art, Jane eyre (2011) I love Mia wasikowska, Marie Antoinette and anything else Sofia Coppola has ever made, Anna karenina (another Joe wright masterpiece)
-anything Wes Anderson but particularly Rushmore (1998) which is one of his lesser known films I feel like but it means a lot to me for various very personal reasons and I wish more people talked about it (I need to watch asteroid city immediately)
-PHANTOM THREAD greatest romcom of all time (jk hehe) but fuck Paul Thomas Anderson I don't like that dude
-everything guillermo del torro but particularly crimson peak (guillermo my man pls pls pls plsssssssss do Dracula and cast Adam driver I'll give u my first born plsssss splsssssss guillermo father pleaaassseeeeee!!!!)
-the green knight !!!!!!!!!!!! changed my brain when I watched it dev Patel is so fucking hot but also like it was just so gorgeous and such a wonderful adaptation and the monster fucker in me low key liked the green knight himself likeeeeeeee idk what to say I am the way I am
-Robert Eggers the light house, the man from uncle (I love most guy Richie films I love his high paced action and all that fun stuff), park chan-wook's STOKER !!!!!!!! I fucking love that film omg, everything Denise villeneuve too but particularly arrival is a goddamn masterpiece and it's so wrong that Amy Adams didn't win the Oscar for that (poor Amy with the no Oscar curse)
-for like comfort movies stepmom (1998) - devastating but I watch it all the time if I could live in any house from a movie ever it'd be Susan Sarandon's house in that movie, billy elliot (2000), 20th century women (2016), lady bird, funny girl - BARBARA !!!!!!!!!!!!!!, howl's moving castle, this is 40 (my favorite comedy ever), paterson (2016), uptown girls, the rocky horror picture show
-oh and more recently the banshees of inisherin moved me so incredibly deeply I actually recently got in an argument with someone who said that it was pointless and stupid and I was SO OFFENDED devastating funny introspective all the things I was very sad when Collin ferrel didn't win the academy award for it I thought he was so ... I don't know what the right word is I guess like changed? in the role of padraic and GOD BERRY KEOGHAN there goes that dream I cried so hard so beautiful Kerry Condon also they were all so spectacularly devastating in that film I could go on about it for days
sorry this was so long you guys know I love to run my mouth when given the opportunity hehe

what i watched/read in january
Saint Maud: 5/5 Quite the parlor trick that I spent the whole buildup to actually seeing it believing it couldn't possibly be as psychologically intense and questionable as people were making it out to be and--what do you know? I was actually drawn in an surprised. Especially by the "demonic possession" and "angel wings" leading up to the final scene.
Grabbed: Poets & Writers on Sexual Assault, Empowerment, and Healing, ed. by Blanco, Moro, Moustaki, and Albo: 5/5 This was all very moving and left me with much to think about. It didn't just take points from the female pov, but also the male and--I think?--trans and nonbinary. The poetry in itself was a surprise, the essays and confessions something more what I was thinking of. It was hard to choose my favorites from the lot, but the poem by Michael O'Mara using Pink stands out the most.
Shades of Blue: Writers on Depression, Suicide, and Feeling Blue, ed. by Amy Ferris: 5/5 Okay, I'm not going to lie, I read through this entire book and while all of them were deeply meaningful, the one that stuck in my brain was the one that included a knock-knock joke-- "Knock knock/Who's There?/Boo./Boo who?/Just boo, you dope. You're a ghost." -by judywhite-- Which...is kind of horrible, and yet stupidly endearing?
Frankie Drake Mysteries, season 4: 4/5 Okay, I really, really, really wanted to love this season, which is apparently the last we're getting from this series, but, like, apparently they HAD warning that they weren't getting a fifth season, had time to wrap up most loose ends and STILL left us with this COMPLETE BULLSHIT ENDING?! WTF?
My Neighbor: Art Inspired by the Films of Miyazaki: 3/5 I mean, some of this was very good, but this was not at all what I was expecting and it was kind of a let down that I had to order this from out of state from my library. I thought this was an essay AND art collective.
Humans, by Brandon Stanton: 5/5 I'm always reading and rereading this, and it never gets old and is always giving me something new to notice and think about. On this particular reread, the photos and people that stood out the most were a small child in New York in a lion costume who was quoted saying, "There's nothing hard about being four;" then a group shot of two boys and a girl I think in the Middle East, one of the boys saying, "We let her pick," while all three smile, holding up a kite with Barbie on it; and then a picture of a man just sitting against a building with a really beautiful anecdote he gave about reading tarot cards to make a living in New York city wherein he believes in the card, but not in the way fortune tellers do, "I believe in them like you'd believe in a poem. I believe in their aesthetics."
Eat a Peach: a Memoir, by David Chang: 5/5 Being a chef and restaurant owner and believing in the work while also having mental illness. I haven't read this kind of memoir before from the Korean immigrant perspective and this went much better than I would have thought. Mostly because I did not expect this to be so FUNNY in some places. I thought it would be lyrical (which it was) or quite philosophic (which it was) but the book cover--which was beautiful--kind of made me think this would read like a Sisyphean tragedy. Which it really wasn't. And also some of his analogies--especially the one about a Hogwarts Culinary Dark Arts Class--are going to be stuck in my brain for a while.
Calling Doctor Laura: A Graphic Memoir, by Nicole Georges: 3/5 Oh to be a young queer woman at the turn of the century whose mother is almost certainly an untreated narcissist with BPD and whose girlfriend was most definitely cheating on her while she worked out trying to get the truth about her not-actually-dead father while sifting through very unpleasant memories of neglect and emotional abuse. Not a fan of the art style, but the story was at least honest.
Cheshire Crossing, by Andy Weir & Sarah Andersen: 5/5 TEN-THOUSAND blessings on writers who both admit to writing fanfiction on their opening introduction AND an art style where the cast was presented as 80% poc, INCLUDING Alice & Dorothy themselves, while presenting Wendy as queer. YES TO ALL OF THIS.
How to Be an Artist, by Jerry Saltz: 4/5 Actually a very good collective for advice and practice, though I might disagree with some of the rules...just...a bit.
The Wendy Project, by Osborne & Fish: 4/5 A story of young grief in the aftermath of an accident. A modern retelling of Peter Pan, but without the explanation of separating grief and breakdown from reality...such as it is. I was actually rather pleased to see the more "human" Peter ignored for the sake of the Wendy.
The Girl Who Married a Skull and Other African Stories: ratings run from 1/5 to 6/5 depending on the artist and story. My favorites of the lot were The Disobedient Daughter Who Married a Skull, by Nicole Chartland--which was beautiful and did NOT end in marriage, but did end in love--and Concerning the Hawk and the Owl, by Meredith McClaren--which was incredibly lovely and had very little NEED of words.
Kimi Can't Communicate vol. 16, by Oda Tomohito: 5/5 Best parts about this would be: -Tadano playing the sports festival and getting crushed on HARD by Manbagi, Katai, and Komi. -Maeda, the school's top sprinter, having a thing for GILFs. -Suteno not giving Tadano a single thought and getting his headband taken without Tadano even blinking. -EVERYONE (bar Komi and Manbagi) feeding Tadano lunch. -The first time Tadano pats Komi on the head = KOMI WANTS MORE!! -Return to the Cat Café, complete with Manbagi getting a little pervert tomcat and Tadano once again pulling in the prettiest kitty in the area by being himself. -Shousuke and his Dad have a Father-Son day--and it becomes very obvious that Shousuke totally deserves Hitomi as the only curse he'll ever get. -Emoi Awards. -Tadano saves Manbagi's goldfish. -The whole voting process for the Culture Festival--once more, Komi is made to be the golden idol. -The Rehearsal of Najimi's play and The Cold-Blooded Princess. -It might be for the play, but Komi finally tells Tadano, "I like you."
The Vincent van Gogh overseas history DVD: 3/5 I suppose this is useful in terms of understanding and reference, but I didn't much care for the directing and editing style.
Big Trouble in Little China: 5/5 I FINALLY get to watch the movie with the women that have green eyes sacrificed to a dragon spirit in the name of a dark sorcerer cursed for over a thousand years in San Francisco. I haven't seen this movie since I was in kindergarten and should never have watched it to begin with. It is infinitely more entertaining and unpredictable than most anything coming out of the industry today. I had totally forgotten that Samantha from Sex and the City and Steve Stronghold from Sky High were acting here. I cannot believe John "Halloween" Carpenter directed this.
Disney's A Twisted Tale Anthology: -What if Snow White Learned Magic: 3/5 -What if Mulan became the Emperor's Advisor: 4/5 -What if Remy met Colette First: 5/5 -What if Anastasia had a change of Heart: 4/5 -What if Jim Hawkins joined the Pirates: 2/5 -What if history wasn't Quite Right about Robin Hood: 4/5 -What if Eric met Ariel after she rescued him: 3/5 -What if Tinkerbell was working for Captain Hook: 3/5 -What if Naveen had to get home to Maldonia: 5/5 -What if the Triplets visited the Witch: 3/5 -What if Madam Mim and Merlin wet to school together: 3/5 -What if Belle had to take her father's place at the fair: 3/5 -What if Hercules's first day as a god didn't go as planned: 2/5 -What if Bambi didn't want to be a Great Prince: 5/5 -What if Aurora knew about the curse: 4/5
Komi Can't Communicate vol. 15, by Oda Tomohito: 5/5 -Isagi is introduced with a HUGE arc to become Student Council President -Isagi has poor communication/OCD/Extreme germaphobia and touch aversion -Ase presents and comes through as Isagi's Truest Friend -Tadano sees Pretty Cat Komi -Yamai gets Komi to play Twister with her...in the school hallway...and passes out when she gets EXACTLY what she wants -Hitomi initiates a Shousuke/Ai + Hitomi & Yamada "date night" complete with coffee drinks, prize games (Hitomi won Ai a stuffed panda) and a movie at the theater -Ai had fun~ -Isagi plays Rock/Paper/Scissors/Hammer/Helmet against the entire class and WINS -Najimi insists on Isagi keeping the hammer (she's too good not to have it) -The previous Class President is utterly TERRIBLE at her job -The class take glamor shots together in an effort to get Isagi to smile for her election photo; but only managed to get a very on point shot of her menacing Najimi (which works better) -Isagi forgot to choose her campaign representative, but as usual, BLESS TADANO, "Don't worry about it. We don't care who you pick." -Isagi wins after a truly heartfelt speech from Ase. -Time for school physicals; Tadano is a half inch taller than Komi (who is SO GLAD) -Manbagi stresses about her crush on Tadano -Komi and Shousuke are forced by their mother to invite friends to dinner; Komi invited Manbagi, Ase, and Tadano...Shousuke ONLY invited Yamada, but Hitomi being Hitomi invited herself and Ai -Tadano gets to shine as the most polite person on the planet by being the ONLY PERSON at the table to say Yamada Sanjurokuro's name correctly (which may or may not lead to yet another crush on him; bringing his fan club up to, what, twelve now?)
Komi Can't Communicate vol. 14, by Oda Tomohito: 5/5 -The only thing that keeps sinking into my brain about this particular issue is the entire fair situation wherein Tadano, Komi, Manbagi, and Katai get sucked into working at Agari's aunt's food stall by Najimi. -Fushima continues to cheer on Katai/Tadano from the sidelines (and me along with her). -But the kicker is Manbagi finally warming up to Tadano and Hitomi & Onemine & Sasaki & Sato FREAKING OUT -Komi is just glad they get along -Hitomi is glad that Tadano continues to be Tadano and does not understand the concept of ANYONE having a crush on him. This precious boy.
Komi Can't Communicate vol. 13, by Oda Tomohito: 4/5 -It was fucking MAJESTIC to see Nakanaka playing around with an umbrella after sunset like a gun, running aground of the Four Monarchs, an out of town city woman playing dead when she said, "BANG!" to be polite--and her running away as fast as she could with the Monarchs finding the situation quite interesting but the woman on the ground wondering when she could get up again. -Najimi sets up a horror challenge at Katai's WITHOUT ASKING HIM--but it's fine. His friends are proud of him and he is so SOFT.
Komi Can't Communicate vol. 11, by Oda Tomohito: 5/5 -Summer vacation wherein the Komi and Tadano family end up at the same outdoor game park. -Hitomi continues to be Shousuke's unwanted but entirely necessary cheerleader. -Komi unlocks a kink by seeing the rim of Tadano's underwear. -Nakanaka/Yamai is VERY encouraged by Sukida (and myself as well). -The Four Monarchs are introduced to the class and it is SO fucking funny watching them fail to impress or scare ANYONE in this new class. Especially Tadano; it is so awesome.
3 Generations DVD: 4/5 A lesbian, poly, trans family making their way through the son's transition and the messy secrets the mother left behind in an effort to get written permission to start testosterone. I'm a little sad that the main actor wasn't actually trans but...Elle Fanning is still Elle Fanning, so the acting was *chef's kiss*.
Pawn Sacrifice DVD: 5/5 I already wanted to punch Bobby Fischer when he was alive for being both a genius and the biggest fucking asshole, but Toby Maguire was a fucking majestic BEAST in this piece illustrating opposite Liev Scheiber just HOW MUCH chess players during the Cold War did not inspire envy. Every actor in this film was a blessing, but DAMN, these two are awesome.
Little Panic: A Memoir, by Amanda Stern: 4/5 Oh, holy shit; I knew the 80s were terrible for women, but to have an anxiety disorder on top of a learning disorder in New York's East Village at the time was nothing short of just AWFUL.
The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance: A Memoir, by Elna Baker: 4/5 This is useful in being a funny and darkly honest commentary/critique of diet culture, New York single life, religion, growth, and cues into life in-between. But All the way through I could not help but feel a little bit irked by the author.
From Boys to Men, edit. by Ted Gideonse & Rob Williams: 5/5 My fourth time reading this and it gets better every single time--especially in that these are queer men of all ages, races, and types, and just feels NICE. -The Story I Told Myself, by Soehnlein: inventing the self through playing with the little people in your head to make some pretty awesome soap operas -Sleeping Eros, by McAllister: considerations on divorce and brotherhood and a father who might have also been gay -Preppies are my Weakness, by Dolby: the essay that basically promises that those you're attracted to at ages 14-17 are Your Type (interestingly, for those of my mutuals reading this; I kept picturing Billy Cranston and Jason Scott, even though Jason would NEVER treat Billy like that). -Barbie Girls, by E.K. Anderson: Mid-80s realizing the politics of "romance" at age 11 and meeting a kindred soul at summer camp -Signs, by R.C. Green: exploring sexuality from the POV of an inner city, poc athlete that had a LOT of anger and internalized homophobia -And much, much, MUCH more.
A Gift From a Ghost, by Borja Gonzalez: 6/5 This is such a beautiful graphic novel for the consideration of how the future is a reflection of the past and how the past has little touches of understanding the future. Possibly it is also a thought piece on reincarnation? Dimensions and time spotting? Either way, the choice for the characters to be faceless and wit the looks of very pretty mannequins while building up the surroundings and wardrobe was MAGNIFICENT.
Change the Game, by Kaepernick: 4/5: A graphic memoir about the growth of a black football player from a white family who would eventually take the knee in protest to racist, sexist, political lashings. Not my favorite art style, but I can appreciate the lighting and line technique.
Goodbye: A Story of Suicide of Hailee Joy Lamberth: 2/5 A good attempt at humanizing and rationalizing, but for me, personally, it was a little too bright, shiny, sanitized...And not to mention a bit self-indulgent.
The Books that Changed My Life, edit. by Bethanne Patrick: 5/5 I have my favorites in the writers and in the books they chose and in the essays they wrote on them. But Gillian Flynn, Margaret Atwood, Peter Coyote, and Sofia Coppola's choices were my favorites.
Komi Can't Communicate vol. 4, by Oda Tomohito: 5/5 -Komi and Tadano try and say each other's first name...and fail SPECTULARLY. -They swapped kitty keychains (a tabby and an ebony) -Inaka makes her first appearance in a Subway parody -Nakanaka/Yamai is establishing itself through Tadano trying to teach them "Komi Speak."

I'm reading The Davenport, aka this book with the gorgeous cover:
Tumblr media
I hate how Tumblr makes images so small now wtf
And I have issues with this book. Under the cut because I'm going to rant.
The book's premise is really cool: it's 1910s Chicago, where all things consider Black people have a possibility of being very successful, and we're told a story through the eyes of four girls as they fall in love, start a business of their own, fight against the social limitations imposed on them solely because they're women, learn about the civil rights movement, etc. I was excited for this book, but now that I'm halfway through it, I find it supremely underwhelming.
The Davenports is chiefly a romance book but romance is its worse aspect by far --and it's not like the author dives deep in those 'other aspects'.
Four love stories are told at the same time, which means that none of them are developed appropriately. They all seem too rushed and the men these girls are with... They're boring with the exception of DeWight (beautiful name btw) and they're almost caricature-like.
John, for example, is such a stupid character. And if he isn't stupid, then he's definitely an asshole. He's talking about loving Amy-Rose, all the while being jealous about Ruby flirting with another man. He's supposed to have had an intense romance with Ruby but he hardly ever talks to her and ghosted her big time after having gone to college. You would think the Amy-Rose/John/Ruby/Harrison love square (?) could be interesting but nope! The book is too busy half-assing the other girls' stories to delve into it!
Harrison is just there for Ruby to use, and while it's obvious that she'll eventually fall for him, he practically lacks a personality beyond being Ruby's lapdog. Oh, wait! He also comes from an interracial family wherein his mother used to be enslaved to his father --but it's all fine since they actually love each other, he isn't a product of SA or anything :)
Lawrence is nice, I suppose. But he's just there. He's British and he's a perfect match for Olivia and buddies-soon-to-be-lovers with Helen and bla bla bla. Again, there's no insight on his character at all, so he's a huge missed opportunity.
Washington DeWight I like. He has a Personality™ and Aspirations™ and motivations and I don't know, he just seems cool. He challenges Olivia and is a window to learning more about Black history. It's a shame that his character is lost amid the need to talk about ~10 characters at once.
I wouldn't say I could've written the book better than the author, because for once I don't know the first thing about Black history in America (I don't even live in the same continent the US is in). But structure-wise, I do think the book is in urgent need of a do-over: give me more books, center them around 1/2 of the girls and slowly ease the rest of the girls' stories into the narrative, then develope them in upcoming books --and ffs either focus more on the men or give them POVs so that they seem more fleshed out.
This was horrible and after writing this I've realised I have to DNF

X Files Rewatch: Season 7
overall thoughts: I hate to say it but this might be my least favorite season so far? I still really enjoyed it for the most part and there were a few genuinely amazing episodes in here but i gotta admit the blatant flirting was one of the only things that kept some of these more mediocre episodes watchable
msr: the huge debate over when they actually became A Thing is kind of impossible to find a definitive answer for, but I tend to subscribe to the idea that "millennium" was their first kiss (bc it was awkward! but still sweet) and that things progressed quickly from there, bc there is no other explanation for their behavior in "rush" that makes sense in my mind lol. at the same time though, i can see the argument for "all things" being their first time, and i can even make a case for something happening post-"amor fati" or even post-"milagro" if I'm feeling especially silly. in truth though, the main reason why i don't want "all things" to be their first time (even though it makes narrative sense) is that i just want them to have as much time together as possible before mulder's abduction :(
writing: i am still in a committed loving relationship with vince gilligan and i loved all of his episodes with the exception of "hungry", but that was mostly for the lack of M/S interaction and the weird treatment of EDs. but "x-cops" was hilarious and so creative, and "je souhaite" is one of my favorite episodes of the series and honestly a microcosm of the thesis of the show. I also really enjoyed both david duchovny and gillian anderson's solo penned/directed episodes. "hollywood ad" is hilarious and sweet, and "all things" is so quietly introspective with some really beautiful things to say about fate and free will.
directing: one of my favorite sequences in the entire series is the end of "orison" when scully shoots pfaster, it's SO chilling, it makes me literally clutch my chest. rob bowman literally going out with a bang, if i chose to forget about "en ami" (which i'm still mad was his last episode of the series). sigh. "sein und zeit", "closure" and "all things" are also beautifully directed episodes, and i loved vince gilligan's funky directing in "je souhaite" i think his shots and camera angles really add to the comedic bits
hair: their worst hairstyles in the whole series 😭 by the end of the season they've grown out to a better length, but gillian's mid-season hair is especially tragic
favorite episodes: sein und zeit, closure, x-cops, all things, hollywood ad, je souhaite
68% of episodes worth rewatching, and that's being generous...yikes
individual episodes reactions under the cut:
The Sixth Extinction- wtf is happening…scully’s melodramatic letters to mulder tho <3
The Sixth Extinction: Amor Fati- YOU WERE MY CONSTANT, MY TOUCHSTONE
Hungry- the monster guy looks like a young christian bale
Millennium- I forgot the plot of the entire episode once they kissed
Rush- guys stop eye fucking you’re literally at a crime scene
The Goldberg Variation- scully smiling :))))
Orison- choosing to ignore that they made pfaster a demon, otherwise really good
The Amazing Maleeni- silly and smiley :)
Signs and Wonders- terrible terrible awful I hate snakes
Sein Und Zeit- :((( the spiritual successor to paper hearts
Closure- cried like a baby at the end bc I am a sensitive cancer <3
X-Cops- no one does meta humor like the x files
First Person Shooter- a more sexist, more boring kill switch. pass.
Theef- creepy but meh minus the blatant flirting
En Ami- disgusting, was literally dry heaving through the second half
Chimera- one funny scully monologue but otherwise meh
All Things- beautifully quiet and introspective, also congrats on the sex
Brand X- boring
Hollywood A.D.- so goofy but really funny
Fight Club- terrible, unwatchable
Je Souhaite- amazing, adorable, hilarious, cried real tears at the end
Requiem- this whole episode was just one long Jesse from breaking bad screaming noooo gif

SONIC FRONTIERS TRAILER ANALYSIS + SPOILERS (I mean, what did you expect)
Tumblr media
this trailer was all I was hoping for. I had high expectations for the next mainline sonic game and until now, sonic frontiers hasn't disappointed me. so, here's why I'm so hyped
the animations and the graphics look absolutely gorgeous, my boy finally has expressions!! (I know it's cgi but still)
all the different starfall islands + the cyberspace levels look very interesting and fun and beautiful
sage's: "submit" and sonic's: "fuck u bitch, I'm going anyway" yeah I loved that (he actually doesn't say anything but his face says it)
he goes so fast lol, this goes out to the ones who would complain about Sonic's lack of speed in this game
all the new gimmicks look fun, the bouncing off the walls, the new fighting techniques
oh don't get me started on these robots, they are unique and they look pretty challenging so I'm excited about that
the suspense is real, we see a locked up Amy, I wonder how sonic will save her and tails and knuckles (apparently they all lost their memories)
THE GODDAMN VOICE ACTING. honestly, I never found Roger's voice fitting for sonic. I always have respected his work however, don't get me wrong. but the delivery of that single line... PERFECT. I hope it's the same for the rest of the game, I've been dying for some good voice acting/good voice direction and good writing
speaking of good writing, as soon as I learned Ian Flynn is the writer for the frontiers' story, I was relieved and until now his work on the game has been proven to be damn good
idk what sage's powers are (atp I'm just assuming her name is sage) but wtf did she do to sonic, his arm went red and one could say his arm went null space (that red just reminds me of the phantom ruby and infinite's power, okay?)
wait, did his arm glitch? did sage glitch? bcuz I know for a fact that the cyberspace levels have some glitchy effects here and there. (sage is the glitch confirmed and if you know, you know)
oh I can see the pain in Sonic's face! and his anger! he has emotions! (lol)
she summoned a giant anthropomorphic robot vulture, almost 19 times bigger than sonic (maths), that's great :')
also, 60€? it seems fair but I ain't buying it for a little while it seems oops
I wasn't expecting that cover but I'm not complaining, it's pretty cool
the soundtrack? gorgeous. (judging by what we've heard) but it's a sonic game, ofc it will have a banger ost
also, it's a lot different than that Japanese trailer we saw a few days ago (which looked so pretty), I'm just saying
go visit the official website for sonic frontiers, there are some nice screenshots y'all should check out :)
and with that being said, I hope I can get this game sooner or later, I'm so hyped.

Hi! Can I ask for Seduce me the otome, the boys with a singer reader? Like they’re really famous and how the boys feel about it? Specifically a female reader if you don’t mind. Thank you so much! I love your work!
Of course! Thank you so much for your request! I’m going to try to do a different artists for each of the boys, for someone that I think would fit they’re personality. Enjoy!

James: ( Artist inspiration by Sade )
Your voice is so soothing and he loves it
Your genre is a mix between Jazz and Pop music as well as R&B, and James likes the combination
He enjoys hearing your voice, and your songs are always on
He likes sitting with you during the song writing process, and likes to help come up with ideas and feelings for songs
Furthermore, he also likes finding the deep meanings to your songs, and he loves how everything, especially your lyrics, make his heart feel
He enjoys watching you sing live, your voice is soft and delicate but powerful as well and James is in love with it ; and you of course ;)
His favorite song for you to sing would be Pearls :)
Erik: ( artist inspired by Ella Mai )
He hears your voice AND IT IS LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT FOR THIS MAN !!
Save his heart he was going to pass out he thinks your beautiful
He loves and gushes over the way you sing, and will preform with you sometimes, usually playing an instrument ( the piano )
He feels so honored to just be with you and know you personally, he’s absolutely infatuated with you
He likes watching you work, he loves the way your mind works and loves the way you make and handle your music, the raw emotion you put into it makes his heart sing to yours~
His favorite song for you to sing would be Naked :)
Sam: ( Inspired by Amy Lee/ Evanescence )
His. Jaw. Dropped. When he heard you sing for the first time.
His face like a mix of ‘Wtf’ and ‘This is amazing.’
could not put his emotions into words, like at all. He was asking a hundred-and-one questions
Like who taught you to sing like that? How long have you been singing? What’s your band like? What’s the hardest song you’ve ever had to sing? He goes full in with interest
He hears you sing and will literally block out the rest of the world, he can literally only focus on you when you sing, like vision is just YOU and your voice.
Sometimes you’ll sing to him and he’ll nervously laugh about it but he starts to hide his face because he just thinks your so fucking angelic ITS INSANE.
His favorite song for you to sing would be Call me when your sober or My immortal but he always tears during it so don’t sing that in public he will seriously cry
Matthew: ( Artist inspired by Sza )
He will have your songs on repeat 25/8
He’s like your biggest promotion and it’s not even an exaggeration he will seriously talk about you all. The. Time.
He makes Damien learn your entire album and will sing your songs with you, or just becomes your backup dancer
He will learn your dance routines, trust, and he will dance with you when you want to practice at home
He also loves going with you to photoshoots, he takes all the BTS pictures and sends them to you to post, with his credit due of course, your fans love Matthew to pieces
Matthew will often be a question brought up in interviews, like when you went on SNL to promote your new album, and you were asked about Matthew and how he affected the making of the album
“ He’s truly one of my biggest inspirations. You know? He just gets me so much and he’s my biggest supporter. I don’t know where I would be without him. He’s made such a big difference in my life and my view on the world I think he deserves just as much.”
yes he cried when hearing your answer and no we do not talk about it
his favorite song to hear you sing is Hit Different :)
Damien: ( Inspired by H.E.R )
You two write songs together, I can already see it
He enjoys listening to you find a rhythm for the lyrics, he also really enjoys when you play the guitar
Sometimes he’ll ask you to sing to him, your voice relaxes him and he can’t thank you enough for it
He loves the energy you bring with your music and how you’re voice just flows like the sweetest thing he’s ever heard
He likes going over tracks with you, he sits in the studio with you on nights where you get really stuck there finish up songs, with food and water snacks and blankets to make you comfortable as you work
He’s always the first one to hear songs and he has all the unreleased songs on his phone, listening to them whenever he misses you or just wants to hear them
His favorite song to hear you sing would be Comfortable :)

Even if the 2019 film is not perfect, I still think they did an excellent job with AmyxLaurie. Laurie looked totally smitten by Amy when he was talking with Jo. And, by the sound of it, it looks they had a pretty good trip back, if you know what I mean.
Hi, anon!
About AmyxLaurie in that film... I think if Gerwig had stuck with the original scenes for them, it would have worked much better. I talked about this here (x) and here (x).
The book never explicitly says that Amy had a crush on Laurie from the very beginning. But many adaptations had interpreted it as such, especially the 2018 modern adaptation and the 2019 film. I have no problem going through that route. Unrequited-to-requited love is always entertaining to watch. And I think it's something that can happen to any woman. An independent, smart woman like Amy can fall for an idiot. It happens all the time. (So many people reading this are nodding right now)
I would even accept the changes that Gerwig did, like altering the carriage scene so that Amy jumps to hug him. Then, Laurie standing her up and not apologizing in the studio is also part of this story. It shows how vulnerable Amy is when her feelings get in the way. She's telling Laurie that people can choose who to love, but she herself couldn't and Laurie is taking advantage of it whether he knows it or not. It's all part of the narrative that will climax in the garden scene.
That's why the garden scene is so powerful. That's Amy's wake-up call. At that moment she finally realizes how little Laurie respects her and how much he takes her for granted. And that he knows about her feelings! She's basically saying, “I love you but I'm not gonna let you do whatever you want with me.” Few people have that strength and willingness to walk away.
But it all means nothing when in the next scene Amy rejects Fred and goes running to find Laurie. I believe she rejected Fred because she didn't love him, and marrying him would be the same as what Laurie tried to do with her. What I don't understand is why is she so excited to see Laurie. And then she sort of implies that she wants to accept him now? Why? What happened in between? It doesn't make any sense!!!
Seems like there’s a missing scene there, maybe one where Laurie tells her he’s going to work with his grandfather? Or something that shows her (and us) that he genuinely loves her and is totally over Jo.
And then they reunite and they just kiss? And she's fine with it? How does that prove he's over Jo? In the book, they don't even have to say I love you, cause it's crystal clear. There are no doubts between them, they're in sync, and it's beautiful. But here, they needed a long serious conversation before that kiss. In the original script, Laurie has a whole speech and he tells her he loves her.
But in the final movie, there’s nothing that reassures the audience of Laurie’s feelings. And it only worsen when Jo “reconsiders” Laurie’s proposal. Jo is angry at Amy and mourns the loss of her “childhood love” (that’s how it is in the script! WTF! Wasn’t Jo a lesbian in this film?!)
Oh, and the “my lord” thing. Timothee made it sound more sexual than it really is. In the book, these two are living their own medieval fantasy where they are my lady and my lord, and their baby is the princess. Look, is the sex good? Hell yes! Remember, Amy has to be great or nothing. But “my lord” is not related to that.

watching 911 lone star 4x10
spoilers under the cut
I liked the last two episodes but tbh I'm kinda not feeling the show anyway lately, like I'm not excited about the new episodes or anything idk - this show is slowly losing me sns 😂 (like, I've been putting off this episode and I kinda don't wanna watch it rn but I'm gonna bc I'll stick out at least this season 😂)
okay, time to watch it hah:
Tommy looks gorgeous as always 😍
oh my god that eye thing was so gross, I could not even look at the screen 🤢
is Pearce the dude that worked with them for a minute a while ago? i would never remember this dude if they didn't remind us in that HR episode (and I had to google him then to know who they're talking about 😂) why is he back wtf
this is so annoying 😂
oh my god Grace looks stunning 😍😍😍😍
"serial killer, it was my dad that had the stalker" lmao their lives are crazy 😂 and the way TK said it so calmly and casually 😂
I can't take my eyes off of Grace jfc she looks AMAZING 😍😍🔥
I feel like I've seen the actress who plays Kendra somewhere but can't put my finger on it
so... a new love interest for Owen or just a one time thing? tbh I couldn't care less but I miss Amy Acker 😂
aw, Nancy telling Mateo the plot of a book, and he's so excited 😍 look at them, so adorable 😍
ngl I'm kinda bored rn 😂
okay, the whole Owen thing with Kendra paying him is pretty funny, even if I'm annoyed that we're back to focusing on Owen after literally just one episode where he took the backseat
"I may be easy but no one, and I mean no one, has to pay for it" 😂 that got an actual out loud laugh out of me ngl 😂😂😂
oh shit I knew this was gonna happen as soon as I saw the tubes - and it seems like this episode is more focused on medical emergencies and I like that tbh
Grace really is the mvp of this whole show 😂 we need more of her
(also, can we get more of the dispatchers, like, I don't even know anyone's name but Grace, we rarely see her interact with others, and I can't help compare with the og where they have a few recurring characters who are dispatchers🙄)
they're literally racing in ambulances 😂 this is so funny lol
I'm loving another episode where Tommy is a petty queen lmao, I love seeing this side of her 😂
ugh I just do not give a fuck about Kendra and the whole Owen thing 😩 (playback speed 2x, can't get through it otherwise)
the fact that she keeps paying him is funny, but other than that it's just such a fucking boring plotline 😂
oh shit, I did not expect the Paragon ambulance to explode 😂 that took me by surprise 😂
I do not care about Kendra or her sad backstory or whatever
ha, Paragon's getting sued lmao, good 😂
"karma is a beautiful thing" yes it is, Tommy 😂
and that's the episode
idk, this season kinda flactuates for me, it was whatever, got better, then another few meh episode, two great ones, and now it's whatever again 💁🏻‍♀️
BUT I'm watching the promo and next episode will focus on Mateo more??? hell yeah!! I'm so happy they're starting to give screen time to others - maybe this season can be great yet 😂
it was an okay episode, but not one of my faves 😂 I enjoyed Tommy and Nancy and TK and that side of things, and the few moments we got of Nancy and Mateo were adorable, but other than that it was kinda whatever 😂
looking forward to the next one tho haha

On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
Title: On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
Author(s): Ocean Vuong
Year: 2019
Nationality: Vietnamese American
Original language: English
Translator(s): None
Trigger Warnings: Domestic abuse, war, loss
Genre(s): Autobiographical, epistolary, coming-of-age novel
Pages: 242
Started reading: 26/11/2022
Finished reading: 02/12/2022
Synopsis: A man writes a long letter to her mother, who cannot read, in which he describes moments of their family life and their individual lives
Mood(s): Melancholic, confessional
Themes: Family, war, childhood, loss, LGBTQ+, communication, immigration, race
Time setting(s): 1955 - 1975, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s
Location setting(s): Vietnam, US
Writting style: Poetic prose with beautiful imagery but still accessible to a reader not used to poetry
Pace / Rhythm: Slightly slow at times, but generally well-paced
Review: I went into this novel quite blindly, not knowing anything about the plot. The poetic writing had me a bit confused at first on where this would be going, but I soon managed to follow the story and fall in love with it.
We follow his relationship with his mother, full of ups and downs, with both their childhoods not short of complications and trauma, and yet described beautifully, with understanding and compassion.
The novel is a letter addressed to a mother who can never read it, which makes it possible for the protagonist to tell her his life without censoring anything, like the rawest of confessions, even though no sin was committed.
At the same time, it comments on the Vietnam war and its aftermath, how it affected both countries throughout various generations, even the ones that arrived long after it was over.
On its more coming-of-age side, we find the pain and issues of growing up as a queer POC and loving someone who is not ready to face their own queerness, and who will never be.
It is a letter full of memories, both good and bad, happy and tragic, full of the warmth of autumn and pine trees and sunsets, but also of the starkness of fluorescent lights and needles and cement.
Rating: 4.8 ⭐️
Quotes:
"The eye, alone in its socket, doesn't even know there's another one, just like it, an inch away, just as hungry, as empty."
"It was there, inside the song, that you had permission to lose yourself and not be wrong."
"It is no accident, Ma, that the comma resembles a fetus — that curve of continuation. We were all once inside our mothers, saying, with our entire curved and silent selves, more, more, more. I want to insist that our being alive is beautiful enough to be worthy of replication. And so what? So what if all I ever made of my life was more of it?"
Felt: Quite emotional when the topic of death would come up, and angry at war and how it affected not only those who lived it but also the generations that came after
Learnt: More about the Vietnam war and Vietnamese culture
To research: The influence of French on Vietnamese
What made me read it: A friend recommended the author, and I was curious about how a poet would write prose
Expectations: Beautiful writing
Reality: Outstanding writing, so delicately crafted, and a moving story of love and hate
Reminded me of: Crying in H Mart by Michelle Zauner and The Joy Luck Club by Amy Tan
Notable scenes (not spoiler free): His grandma's last breath. It hit so close to home I almost flung the book against the wall
Notable characters: His grandma
Questions for the author(s): How do you think of such gorgeous titles like wtf man
Recommendable: Definitely

A List of My OTPs
because it's 11 and I can't sleep.
Enjolras x Grantaire a.k.a. Enjoltaire a.k.a. ExR- Les Mis
How I fell into this I don't remember now. I vaguely remember reading a crackfic of this and then everything just went sideways.
This was also the fandom that helped me realize that I wasn't exactly straight and that it's okay to not be loud about my sexuality, that I can just be.
I think that explains my attachment to this ship, not to mention just the movie's Grantaire (played by George Blagden) also shipped the characters and played his character like how he thought it should be, Grantaire loving and pining after Enjolras without the revolutionary knowing it.
Except in the fan fics, Enjolras returns his feelings and they work it out, even though it's not easy because they're both stubborn as mules. Ah, ultimate fantasy I guess. And the number of great fics here, *whistle*
Also, the Les Amis? Is amazing? Especially in the modern AUs? Like they're great friends? I love this fandom so much! Permets-tu!
Tumblr media
Shen Wei x Zhao Yunlan - Guardian / Zhen Hun
C'mon, Zhu Yilong & Bai Yu's performance and emotions? Plus just the fact the fanfic writers of this ship are absolutely amazing? Please, escape from this pairing is impossible!
Best opposites attract trope for me. An academic by day, superhero by night in love with a roguish police chief who has no powers but whose charisma, wit, and heart can get him to toe to toe with the legends.
Also, Professor Shen Wei constantly acting like an innocent civilian and lying badly? Gold!
Tumblr media
Loki x Tony Stark a.k.a. FrostIron - Avengers
How did I honestly get to this ship? I really can't remember what started it all. I think it must have been a Loki redemption fic where Tony Stark and Pepper broke up and something something happened. Let me tell you, the writers of this ship have written sagas and ballads of epic and sometimes confusing proportions, and that is why I fell deeper into the pit. I mean, they gotta give justice to two brilliant but chaotic characters, right? Angst. This ship has sooooooooo much angst.
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Eiji x Ash - Banana Fish
My god, if you want to keep your heart intact and not be reminded of all that's ugly in the world, DON'T WATCH OR READ BANANA FISH. YOUR HEART WILL NEVER HEAL!
If you're gonna watch/read it anyway, make sure to watch something fluffy and sweet after. There's a reason that people from this fandom go, "If you've seen Banana Fish's ending, then you can handle whatever angsty show you're watching now." ~ or something to that effect. Another thing we like to say in this fandom is, "Other fandoms: Let's write a Mafia AU! Banana Fish fandom: We are the Mafia AU." Yes, all of us in this fandom is dramatic af.
Tumblr media
Yuuri x Viktor - Yuuri!!! on Ice
Uh, does this really need an explanation? Aside from the fact that you will surprisingly find a lot of Mafia AUs here because we all know that hiding behind that beautiful face of Viktor Nikiforov is a devil capable of... tearing down your self-confidence, like WTF Viktor, don't make Yuuri cry! Also, their dance together at the end, such beautiful love.
Tumblr media
Magnus Bane x Alec Lightwood aka Malec - Shadowhunters
I never read the books and have no plans to in the near future. I just saw a video on Youtube about why Malec is life and now here I am, still reading some Malec fics from time to time.
Some stuff on the show were WTF but overall they were a really good couple who supported each other. Plus, they're a Power Couple.
Tumblr media
Erwin x Levi aka Eruri - Attack on Titan / Shingeki no Kyojin
Not to be confused with Ereri, which is Eren x Levi, which I don't generally ship except for that one time when a writer wrote an epic fanfic series with Eren in his mid 20s and Levi in his late 20s/early 30s, reincarnation AU. Boy was that one a surprise. I did not expect that.
Anyway, I'm an Eruri fan through and through. Especially with that promise that Levi made to Erwin. And the reason he gave the serum to Armin. HE DIDN'T DO IT FOR THE KIDS YKNOW. HE DID IT FOR ERWIN. Plus, Levi, Erwin, and Hange are my special trio. Erwin's batch was really amazing.
Also, I really like the fact that the shorter and slighter person is the more badass fighter while the taller, bigger one is the more calculating and strategic one. Rocks the boat of stereotypes and all that. Bonus: how these two met. My god, what a meet-cute! 😂
Tumblr media
Dani x Jamie aka The Au Pair and the Gardener - The Haunting of Bly Manor
It really is more of a love story than a ghost story. I dunno how to feel about this. I loved these two characters so much and I wished they had a better ending but I wasn't SO surprised because it was a horror series (Like, I was still hoping at the end that they'd be together forever but yknow...). In any case, Jamie was just awesome. And her nickname for Dani? Poppins?! God, what a lover and fighter. She was not afraid to cock a gun in a ghost's face.
Tumblr media
... and now for my flexible BROTPs
Merlin x Arthur aka Merthur - BBC Merlin
Yeah, my brain is so chaotic multiple OTPs and BROTPs of the same pairing exist at the same time without clashing with one another or having major identity crises.
I actually really like BROTP Merlin and Arthur and also like reading OTP Merthur.
And when Merlin is paired with Morgana or Freya or sometimes even Gwaine, that's fine with me too. As long as his bromance with Arthur stays intact, because that's what drew me to the show in the first place. Personal preference. I see them as platonic soulmates.
*Shout-out to the Merthur writers though, you kept me sane during my "Post-Merlin Depression," which is actually a term thrown around in the fandom because of that horrid final season (not saying it's a good term but it's what it was called). A lot of amazing fics here, too, both Magic Reveal and Modern AU ones. Full of action and adventure too! I mean, there are boy-band-looking Knights and magic-wielding badasses!
Tumblr media
Tim Drake x Conner Kent/Kon-El aka Red Robin x Super Boy - DC Comics
More like flexible otp. I dig Stephanie Brown and Tim Drake BUT I really really also dig Tim Drake and Conner Kent. When they're TimKon, it's like an entirely different entity from TimSteph. Ugh, hard to explain.
I mean, Kon telling Tim, "You'll always be my Robin" and Tim telling Kon, "And you'll always be my clone boy" is the shit. Also when Kon could pick out/recognize Tim's heartbeat. And when Tim nearly went mad scientist trying to bring his bestie back. Like, dudes, wtf. And at the same time, hell yeah.
Liu Kang x Kung Lao aka LiuLao - Mortal Kombat
- I see these two as more like ride or die best friends connected by fate/platonic soulmates. But also like their dynamic is so awesome, cute, sweet, badass, can't-live-without-you vibes.
Basically the same way I feel about Merthur. I like reading both romantic and platonic relationships between these two characters. Like, the LiuLao fan creators peeling off the layers of this relationship and exposing every raw nerve is beautiful.
They love diving into the characters' psyche, emotions, motivations, fears, and doubts and you get really amazed because... Aren't they just characters from a video game, you ask? Well yeah, but MK video game has several interesting storylines and the Mortal Kombat 2021 movie was just the perfect jumpstarter to this beautiful blaze.
I mean, "We swore that if we were to die, it would be together"? Hell no, you're not dropping that on us and not expecting us to create our very own spin-offs and 12-page essays on that shit. That's what we fans do, baby. And also, really, we need a shaolin monks/white lotus spin-off/prequel. We're starving here.
As this ship is the newest one on my list, it's the one I'm looking forward to the most. Not enough fan content, I tell you. Not enough. One of these days, I just might add my own.
But right now, it's past 1 and so I shall attempt to sleep.
***No images for TimKon and LiuLao coz apparently I've gone past my 10-images allowance 😤

fav pre peraltiago moment, well known and then underated
my brain kinda blanked so i had to ask a friend but
if we’re talking well known
- we have the rooftop scene in the bet, we see for the first time that jake actually might have feelings for amy which was absolutely beautiful
- their scenes in 48 hours, esp the one where jake says amy will eventually find someone. oh if only he knew that he was that someone.
- amy’s double tuck scene! and jake letting amy win in jimmy jabs! both these moments are absolutely amazing and just makes u wanna scream cus u just want them to get tgt already. the fact that jake and amy still might know about these events
- jake’s romantic styles speech in charges and spec, a classic that i’m sure everyone loves! when i first watched that ep i was definitely shocked by that scene and i just wanted them to get tgt so bad!
- the first goddamn scene of b99 - the way jake and amy just goofing around and the way amy looks at that mf teddy bear. this was the first scene of the whole entire show and the sexual tension between them just skyrocketed i tell u. i was convinced they were dating when i first watched
ok now underrated/somewhat undderated scenes
- the dinner during road trip, jake’s reaction to amy saying she did like him back THAT WAS NOT THE FACE OF SOMEONE WHO HAD MOVED ON loved that scene so much
- kinda undderated but the BOYLE LINETTI WEDDING!!! THAT END SCENE!! ITS MY ALL TIME FAVOURITE PRE PERALTIAGO SCENE! u could feel that tension like those heart eyes were STRONG! VERY STRONG! they were definitely in love
- the scene in unsolvable - the scene where jake seemed upset despite the fact he solved an unsolvable case, he just wanted to be with amy :( it’s a sad scene but it’s one of my favourites cuz it’s just nice to know that jake just wanted to hang out with amy and that’s what would make him the happiest! he was in love! (and bonus i also found out details about the song that plays in the background of the scene thanks to tumblr, and i love the song and how the lyrics acrually fit peraltiago so more reasons to love the scene 🥰
- jake’s speech in operation broken feather- when jake tells her she’s a great detective 🥺🥺 and then amy mocking him for it 🥺🥺 those two just constantly bickering it’s the cutest thing ever actually. and jake genuinely expressing how he thinks amy is amazing was so 🥰🥰🥺🥺 a great scene
- the vulture scene- THE WAY THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER WTF????? AND THIS WAS WHAT THE FIFTH EPISODE AND THEY WERENT EVEN TGT! even mel said it was to show the start of something that could possibly happen between them like YALL LIKE EACH OTHER DOOFUSES STOP BEING DUMB!

Ok my feelings about the episodes (8-7 and 8-8) in no particular order:
we’re boiling down the reason Holt and Kevin split to Holt being obsessive about work and being way too competitive. Okay, on the one hand I kind of get it because this is a sitcom and we don’t have time and need to be funny. On the other hand I’m like in the first episode Holt’s short monologue is “It’s been a tough year to be a black man and a police captain and a human. I’ve been pushed to the brink emotionally and physically. I went into survival mode, I neglected my personal life.” And, yeah, I am sad that we didn’t get to see THAT. Because that is so much more complicated than what we’ve seen of their conflict.
It was difficult for me to figure out why Holt was so stubborn in 8-7 beyond, you know, sitcom reasons. In episode one he flat out admits that he neglected Kevin. He knows what’s up. He’s petty, he’s competitive as fuck, but his ultimate goal is to get Kevin back, right? It’s also like if their relationship was Holt always wanting to win everything, how the hell did Kev stay with him for so long?
Todd? Not that hot. But also lol at Holt being his judgmental self. Holt weirdly always going for white guys (except for that one 8 year boyfriend he had at some point). I loved Todd talking about Queen’s gambit, the way he delivered that line was great.
But also poor Todd, the true victim of this episode (Pappy Boyle had it coming, drinking that rat milk all day for 93 years). This is a guy who just wanted to go on a date with a hot middle-aged cop. He did not sign up for this.
Man, that moment when Andre delivers that whole thing about real life versus movies and people don’t run to each other in the rain thing. I have rewatched this so many times. It’s so good. It’s just so good.
Kevin takes the leap again. I mean contrast this: Holt sends dick pic - Kevin runs through the rain to say I love you. Hard to tell which one of them is more romantic, right?
Holt is such an over-corrector. It’s like that time he went from saying “Does anyone else feel warm?” to throwing himself down the stairs. You get nothing! No, wait actually, I will compromise on everything and also decide to retire for you next episode!”
Kevin fretting about their vow renewal is adorable.
I’m gonna be honest, I love the porn joke.
To be honest, thought the BONE reference was a little much on the third BOOooOne. You can hate me now. “Cheddar’s not some street rat!” Though his tatse in vases is questionable.
We went from “Cheddar is a dog, he has no concept of happiness.” to he prefers the other vase, he thinks shrimp are bougie... but that just might be Kevin being all my fluffy boy is so special! I think in anyone else Holt wouldn’t tolerate this kind of anthromorphism, but with Kevin he’s like yes, our fluffy boy is so special :D
Andy Samberg when he tries to bring himself to say yes about the porn is hilarious, but why would they all hang out when Jake is watching porn? I still think Kevin should have questioned this more lol. Love his I wish I could say I was surprised though.
MEJ is so handsome in this ep. wtf.
love that the Charles - Peanutbutter grudge is alive and well.
Seductive Holt is so seductive. Andre is hotttt.
I love Amy and Terry’s outfits and their whole interaction this episode. Terry carrying her like furniture is gold.
You had it so easy growing up gay! Gold.
Jake talking about Amy, always a blessing.
wonder if Kevin flat out cancelled the renewal ceremony when he found out Holt was on a case and sent everyone home. Though he does say that family is still there at the end, but we don’t see them, so... The whole convo with Rosa and Charles where Kevin must have insisted to come on the rescue mission might be something I might want to throw into a fic... maybe
Kevin is Holt’s knight in shining armor, always. And I am here for it.
WTF is Kevin’s cop voice omg. You just know that the only acting he’s ever done was strutting around in a toga voice projecting like crazy in some Greek tragedy. Cop!Kevin is such chaotic energy
Hmmm, how much should I say about how I feel about the whole Kevin does not want Holt to retire thing? I mean it is a good thing that Kevin does not want Ray to give up this huge part of his life which he is passionate about. But also I’m not a hundred percent behind the way the show is handling the NYPD and police violence. I think personally I would have preferred Holt retiring from the NYPD and going into politics or activism or even becoming a PI like Rosa. I get that he pretty much dedicated his life to the NYPD, but I feel like the show is riding a little on the “a few bad apples” excuse.
I’m going to say that I would have preferred if they had gotten their planned ceremony in suits and with everything to that impromptu thing with Kevin in the cop uniform, though I’m aware of the significance of Holt insisting they do this before finishing the mission. Andre’s smile lights up the entire universe. He has the MOST beautiful smile.
Okay, I wonder if I’m coming off super negative. I’m not though. I really liked the episodes! I’m just very nitpicky (and thinking about stuff I want to work into fic). Aaaaalso, not ready for this show to be over! NBC has been slamming out these episodes like it’s a chore they just want to get through, which makes me sad. But I am still happy that we got all this.
THAT KISS IN THE RAIN IS EVERYTHING.

Season 1: The Rankings
WOW it’s been ages since I’ve posted here. But before moving on to s2, I wanted to talk about my TOP TEN FAVE EPISODES.
Something that surprised me about spn now i’ve finally watched some of it is how variable the episodes are in terms of quality. They’re not afraid to experiment either, and that flexibility is probably one reason this show lasted so long. Some things worked for me, some things didn’t. ANYWAY these are my opinions etc. just from a first time watcher!!  1.) Episode 6: SKIN. This episode, man. Where to even begin: I could be here all night. Suffice to say that the sequence where the shapeshifter sheds his Dean skin to “Hey Man Nice Shot” is just. Chef’s kiss. For the first time, the true depth of Dean’s self loathing truly came to the fore. How socially outcast he knows himself to be, all that hidden shame, that resentment he harbours towards Sam for having (potentially) a way out of the hunter life, coupled with his desperation not to lose him to the “normal world”: somewhere that Dean knows he can’t follow him. After so much posturing and bravado, that inner parodox was SO interesting to witness - he SHOOTS HIMSELF at the end -- and, for me, really steered the character into more *~ thematically complex territory ~* All the songs were good tbh. In-a-Gadda-da-Vida? Yes. 11/10
2.) Episode 11: SCARECROW. There was just so much going on in this episode, but the thing I liked most was the setting. It looked so good!! Autumnal and pastoral. After a couple of (in my opinion) not very good-looking episodes, it was a real breath of fresh air. I also loved Sam in this episode: he looked so small standing by the side of that road. I fully understood the argument, but I also loved how dean just... called him intermittently to update him on the case? This episode really drove home to me how alone they are, how they really have no-one but each other. It also really highlighted how far Sam has drifted from episode 1: he’s on the fringes now, too. All too quickly backsliding into the role of rootless grifter, an identiy he’d tried so hard to claw his way out of. Also, there’s a tome. 10/10
3.) Episode 12: FAITH. This. Episode. Slaps. To be honest, this is probably technically the masterpiece of the season in terms of plot, visuals, antagonist, music etc. but w/e it’s my list. Right off the bat Dean is dying and he’s like it’s fine Sammy, I’m not even mad about it, which is fucked up but then what is more fucked up is that his dad doesn’t even come when Sam leaves him a message? Dean seems to view dying as like. A thing grownups just have to do sometimes. Like jury duty. It’s extremely, extremely sad. Anyway I love the drama of Sam smashing apart the altar, I love the big tent, I love the “don’t fear the reaper” montage. It’s all, quite simply, a *~cut above~* 10/10
4.) Episode 7: HOOK MAN. I don’t know if I was meant to love this episode so much?? I just really, really liked it. I loved the central mystery, and I thought Sam in particular really shone when it came to dealing with the townsfolk and the afflicted girl. It was one of the most thematically coherent episodes when it came to tying the monster to sublimated fear, in this instance, sex and sexuality! Damn do Americans have a weird relationship with sex. And not just with women; this episode really shone a spotlight on Sam’s sexuality wrt his guilt over Jess, his desire for normality, his coltish nervousness in Lori’s presence. There was SO. MUCH. Bonus points for ugly mid-2000s fashions. 10/10
5.) Episode 3: DEAD IN THE WATER. This was the first episode which really made me sit up and go, oh, okay. I can see why people lose their minds over this show. When it’s good, Supernatural just. Shoots a volt of pure catharsis straight into your chest. This was also the first time I really sat up and took note of Jensen Ackles’ acting chops. There’s just so much going on with him every time he’s onscreen, and each little paradoxical turn he gives to Dean’s character is a joy to witness. It was a visually beautiful episode, with a strong supporting cast. The moment I saw her in her silky lavender nightgown, twisting up her unrealistically perfect chingoin, I wished to marry Amy Acker’s character. I know she doesn’t come back to spn but she should’ve!! She should’ve!! 10/10
6.) Episode 5: BLOODY MARY. I’ve heard tell of this episode being a bit of a fandom classic, and I support it. The last few minutes at the end? When Sam sees Jess at the side of the road in that slow panning shot, to the Rolling Stones song Laugh I Nearly Died? It was just... I think it changed me as a person, honestly. This show. It’s lower down on the list for me because how how freaking dark the lighting was at the end, but that might have just been the poor quality stream I found. But yeah, I really liked the plucky teen girl who helped them; I was pleasantly surprised to see a glamourous queen bee-type portrayed as smart and competent, and remain alive by the end. Gold star for you, spn. I know it’s all downhill from here. 9/10
7.) Episode 15. THE BENDERS. First off, I have to give it points for the production design on that house. My brother was of the opinon it would’ve made a good video game enviroment (according to him a lot of spn is akin to a video game which... yeah). This episode also made me really acutely feel for Dean. Could it be because I’m an older sister and this was a literal nightmare scenario? Perhaps. But again what really came to the fore was the single-mindedness with which Dean acted. Sam being dead was literally not an option for him. On a lesser show that might have been left as a given, but the time was really taken to give an almost sinister intensity to Dean’s thoughts and behavior. Some really pretty car shots too. 9/10
8.) Episode 17: HELL HOUSE. What can I say about this? It’s just fun. I love the two conspiracy guys, I love the sibling prank war, I love the concept of a monster created by shared belief. The set design was cool, as was the montage at the beginning where they’re interviewing all the witnesses. It’s a briskly paced and lighthearted episode, which was a breath of fresh air and welcome break after last episode left the Winchester boys abandoned by their father. Yet. Again. Ugh. Throw the whole dad away. 9/10
9.) Episode 19: PROVENANCE. Haunted painting! Haunted! Painting!! This is a simple lil episode but it receives points for Sam and Dean’s best and least convincing disguises thus far -- art dealers -- and a fun, sweet love interest for Sam. He’s so bashful! I thought she was smartly written and I especially liked that she took a more active role and actually helped them solve the case than other side characters we’ve seen so far. I also liked when they were standing over the grave and she was like wow, your lives are really fucked up... it’s true wtf these poor guys?? Anyway 8/10
10.) Episode 14: NIGHTMARE. This spot was a real toss-up between this and SOMETHING WICKED, but NIGHTMARE just edged it out because of the strong supporting character Max, as well as the sheer conceptual power of psychic Sam. Something about the way Dean treats his brothers latent psychic powers as... kind of a concern, but ultimately about on a par with him developing, like, a shellfish allergy, is hilarious to me. They have so many problems, it’s just low priority! Sorry Sammy. But what really clinched this episode for me was the three second-ish sequence where Sam shoves the dresser free with his mind, Dean gets shot in his vision, and Sam bursts into the room. Brilliance. Someone call the x-men. My heart was in my mouth. BIG minus points however for the extensive heart-to-hearts. It was just too much for me. It went on for so long. 7/10
This certainly is a show. I see that now. Anyway. Onto season 2!
