more reading recs
because one post isn't enough. we are hashtag blessed with fic.
as requested, i've highlighted fics with noncon and/or dubcon elements in orange. beyond that, you are responsible for reading tags, warnings, and summaries.
pairings are indicated, although these may change or may not be established yet.
there is no method to this madness, no specific order. these are listed here as my brain remembered them.
i've checked all the links maybe three times, if they're broken, i blame tumblr's formatting.
without further ado...
Slasher Handler by @dragonnarrative-writes - Ghost x Reader
"Simon does serial killer things. What a rascal!" Another fantastically written Simon, with wonderful dashes of Gaz and Price. It's put the term 'romance knives' in my vocabulary. There are many quotable bits and moments that made my blood run cold with how normal the ~situation~ feels, but everything has to be experienced firsthand.
The Far Shore by @deadbranch - Soap x Reader
DB's fic collection is rich, and The Far Shore is no different. I fucking loved Pacific Rim, so when I saw her first mention a PR AU, I did imaginary backflips. DB's Readers are some of my favorites because of how complex and realistic they feel, and when combined with the visceral depth of the neural handshake AND Soap? Compelling. The dynamic between them is fascinating. I almost can't wait for it to be finished so I can go back and dissect it.
Falling into Place by @mortuarywriting
Morg's brought the first COD Isekai AU I've read, like a little treat, with A/B/O to boot. The first chapter hooked me and cracked me up. Their dialogue reads so well, it truly feels like I got sucked into the universe. The panicked ramblings, the over-explanation, the 'oh shit, we don't even have a shared cultural touchstone' moments. I cannot wait for more.
Carvings by @femalefemur - Price x Reader
Cyn's got this amazing thing going on called 'Top Quality Worms' where she takes me by the hand and leads me down a rabbit hole I didn't know I'd find so cozy. Carvings is one piece from her incredible list, featuring a bloody, possessive Captain Price. Somehow, out of this entire piece, Price snapping a pen really did it for me. Did someone say loss of control? Oh no, not my kryptonite!
Under Your Spell by @groguspicklejar - Gaz x Reader x Soap
This fic had me at the pairing tag. Lured me right in. No hope for me, and I'm not mad about it. The way Gaz and Soap play off of each other in Under Your Spell is spine-tingling in more ways than one. The definition of scaroused. Kelsi writes a wonderful Gaz. The first two paragraphs in part two, Split My Skin, describe him perfectly to me.
Chokehold by @ccrites - Soap x Reader
Chokehold is a chef's kiss read. Starts off as a cute and sweet gym read, and uh, well, it does get sweeter, in a way. Without spoiling anything, there is a brief cab ride that made me take a lap before things got really going for Reader. CC's Soap is a delightful tease that is tender all at the same time. I'd join his gym in a heartbeat.
Knight/Princess AU by @a-small-writer-in-a-big-world - Price x Reader
I've read and re-read this AU series a dozen times. It's so gd cute, I might need to see the dentist about how it's rotting my teeth. Seriously, it makes ME want to be a princess. Specifically Price's princess. Bear writes such a sweet and gruff Price, catch me holding a hand over my heart and just sighing. I'm also a big fan of multiple POVs and the insight into each character.
Martyr in the Making by @eilidh-eternal - Ghost x Reader
I had a tattoo touch-up the other day, and while waiting, I thought about this fic: the dream and nightmare of being tattooed by Simon and the rest of the 141. It's a dream for obvious reasons (probably unhealthy for me) and a nightmare because of, well, you'll have to read the story. Getting a tattoo can be such an intimate experience. You put yourself into someone's care and get something permanently etched onto your body. When Reader sits for Simon, you're right there with her, the two of you on an altar.
Liquid Smooth by @cordeliawhohung - Gaz x Reader
Bodyguard!Gaz save me, save me, bodyguard!Gaz. Ugh, Gaz is fucking incredible in every flavor, but there is something that hits different about the guy when he's flexing those 'VIP protection' skills. There are several tiny moments in Liquid Smooth that made me audibly whisper, "God, I wish that were me." If you have a conifer tree allergy, you might not be able to handle the god-tier pining. (I'll see myself out.)
pornstar!Gaz by @cordeliawhohung - Gaz x Reader
Gotta include the series that I drop everything for whenever I see an update. Another fantastic depiction of best man Kyle Gaz Garrick. The charm, the jealousy, the care...My personal favorite installments are Whispers and Threesomes.
plus size puppygirl!reader / Simon & Reader / Punishment by @secretsynthetic - Price x Reader x Ghost
Ghost gets his Captain a puppy, and Synth gives us a tasty Price x Reader x Ghost story. I've linked the intro and a Simon x Reader snippet, but my personal favorite is Punishment. Punishment is a deeper dive into Price the disciplinarian: "how the hell do i get a mutt like you to fuckin’ listen?" I'd gush about it, but again, this is another one to read and experience firsthand. One of my favorite recent explorations of a PriceGhost dynamic.
~~
i'll probably cobble another one of these together in may 2024. my fic backlog is something else. i blame it on all the massive talent. mwah.

This might sound like an odd question but I’m planning on making my own comic at some point and I was wondering if you had any advice? Specifically in making the plot, deciding what each character does and maybe panel/page composition and how to make harmonious colour palettes?
Also one more question but when you were at the beginning of developing Stray Souls did you post little lore/plot snippets and character doodles/info or did you mainly wait until the comic was out?
(Sorry I know this is a lot but I was just wondering sort of what your process is because everything seems so seamless and well-put-together :> )
Ehh first of all the seamless and put-togetherness is an illusion 🫠
Tumblr media
A lot of my work is built organically (fancy way of saying I just sorta wing it) and very dependent on what makes me excited at each given point. Generally, I come up with an idea for a character or a plot point and from there start branching out.
Say, I create character A. A needs a story so I create some beats for them, a beginning-middle-end type thing. While thinking of this, characters B, C, etc pop up as placeholders/devices for A's story, and the world gets shaped around it as well. Then suddenly something in the world gets decided that in turn changes A's story a little, and so on. Then I go into B, C, etc and do the same thing (build a story, let it bleed into the world and let the world bleed into it).
There's pros and cons to this sort of thing of course. Most of the time I over-develop characters or world bits that are completely unnecessary and clutter the narrative (especially when it's something like a comic, where things need to be explained visually and economically), and because of this sort of chaotic process I also tend to get entangled in my own concepts and lose track of my main threads. I don't dislike it entirely so it's just a matter of figuring out what works best for your own goals and processes.
Some general advice for comics that I've learned from trial and error: try stripping your story down to its bare bones and see what you absolutely need VS what's there for flavour or added context. Only add flavour once you're sure you can tackle the minimum, both in writing and artwise. Keep your character designs simple if you value your hands lol. It's fun to design complicated details but you WILL get tired of drawing them after a while. Sometimes it's ok to tell and not show 🤷‍♂️ if you're a one-man team sometimes you just gotta bite the bullet. Bear in mind that long stories will take YEARS to complete in comic format. Not an end all be all, but you do need to think about that. Also just go for it once you've got a structure you feel good about. I personally don't like over planning and don't even script things, so I don't think you need to have everything on paper before getting some chapters rolling. Most of what I've learned about comics has been making them, not thinking about making them. Oh, and readers tend to be more lenient than we give them credit for - if you're passionate enough about your world or characters, chances are at least some people will be interested regardless of whether you think art or writing are up to par
As for the other question, I spoiled the shit out of stray souls before launching it and still kinda do it for fun LMAO. Nothing too serious ofc but I've always loved giving people an insight into characters and world outside of the comic since the comic itself is a little peek into the whole thing. It also kinda serves to keep people interested imo
And I just can't keep my mouth shut about my stories lol

TRIGUN ULTIMATE OVERHAUL AUGUST UPDATE
OVERHAUL UPDATE 08/04/23 - The Japanese Scans, again.
Hey there, everyone, and welcome back to another monthly Overhaul update!
We firstly want to say that we've noticed an increase in people asking about the technicalities of our translation, and how it appears in the Japanese version.
I, as in the project lead and translator, have absolutely been enjoying these asks. It's hard to just write a big post about all the little things that we've written, decided upon or localized. So, for people to ask about specific lines that interests them, it really helps us show some of the work and consideration going into our translation, and helping us perhaps make a people feel more trusting of our translation.
We always encourage people to take all translation with a grain of salt, as you never know what the person behind translations might've gotten wrong, missed or even changed for some selfish goal. It doesn't mean you should treat all translators with distrust, but a healthy bit of reminding yourself that you'll never truly know the Japanese text's words and intentions without reading it yourself is good.
That's why we take what we're doing very seriously and hope that we can earn, or keep, your trust as a reader, and not break that trust. We love having the chance to make you feel more comfortable by explaining our process and our choices, so never hesitate to ask if there's anything you're interested in hearing about.
We also fully embrace legitimate peer review, no matter how humbling, as there will always be mistakes and oversights. It helps us constantly improve and ensure that we give all of you the best translation, and scans, that we can muster.
~~
Anyway, to today's main topic.
As the topic title says, we'll be talking about the Japanese scans again, however there are also other good news in connection with that. Work energy has returned for me, the project lead, and I'm cleaning pages at a quick pace again. As mentioned in this post, we changed some of the tasks each member were doing, so I picked up cleaning Trigun Vol 1 and 2.
It also seems that the result of the poll on the previously mentioned poll will be to post a chapter a week later this year. We decided to leave the choice up to everyone, and so the conclusion is that we'll eventually be running a two posts a week schedule whenever the English release is ready. The entire Japanese version posting run will take about two years and three months with a chapter a week, so will the English release posting run as well.
We'll also be making entirely new chapter upload banners with the new 2.0 scans, all in the same size and format, as to keep them clean and consistent. We'll likely be using the same banner for both Japanese and English release. We'll share more info on the exact dates for releases in the future when we feasibly can make a posting plan.
Trigun Vol 1 is already fully cleaned, and work has already begun on Vol 2. I am typesetting Vol 1 as we speak, and it will be done soon. That means that I have new scans from the early manga to show everyone.
~~
Check below for cool new scans and a few details!
Tumblr media
Removing the middle seam and paper damage is always a lot of work, but getting a seamless two-page spread is always worth it. Vulpana did an amazing job on this chapter, however, after this chapter they were struck was a lot of life's bullshit and was forced to a complete halt.
This chapter page is also an example of our new combo font usage, the old font for chapter number and the new font for Japanese lettering.
Tumblr media
And here it is with the classic font, as some titles are entirely in English.
The only typesetting we've done for the Japanese versions are the chapter pages, chapter ends, and page indicator. As mentioned in the post about the Japanese scans earlier this week, we've done so to have the chapter and page numbering match with single volume releases, as the scans are from the Japanese Omnibuses.
Tumblr media
We're still moving the chapter titles to new spots to try and disturb the art as little as possible, but sometimes there's no way to avoid it.
Tumblr media
Other times we completely remove the chapter title from the original page, like above, and move it to another page where it fits. Like always, this includes redrawing whatever was behind the text.
The same cleaned scans will be used for the English version, where we remove all the Japanese text from the scans as well. In the end, we'll have four different versions of the 2.0 scans in storage: Japanese version in original and resized scale, and the English version in original and resized, as well.
Tumblr media
Sometimes removing the middle seam can be really difficult, especially when it includes a lot of straight lines that are just slightly not lining up. In the above example I spent three hours just lining every straight line up, as to not ruin the effect.
And sometimes the middle seam is very easy, only needing a few lines to be complete. One thing we can never truly hide is the change in the gradient, as all scans are different and the lighting can really change how dark or light the gradients are. We're still looking into a good way to minimize that effect, but I have some theories.
~~
If there are any topics that you want to see for future updates, don't hesitate to let us know!
SEE YOU GUYS NEXT MONTH!

So, the new edition of Letters from an Actor! Here's a photo of it on my ereader!
Tumblr media
And here's a photo of the same bit from the artisanal version:
Tumblr media
I don't think they tried with that divider at all. :( I spent hours fiddling with pixels trying to get it just right. I didn't quite succeed, but it's better than that. It looks like they just copied and pasted one from a PDF and called it a day. Also I, uh, centered it? Though theirs is centered when I open it on my computer, so maybe it's just an ereader problem. But I've been checking to make sure everything works on my ereader! (Will it work on others? Dunno. I hope so! I'm also checking on my phone and iPod - the dividers look too big there despite me limiting the size in the epub's code, so I might revisit that issue.)
Also, typos from the original printings that I fixed but the professionals didn't:
"Linda March" for "Linda Marsh"
"employer's" for "employers"
"the The Film Industry"
"overselves" for "ourselves"
And possibly more, those are just the ones that I posted about when I was first editing. It's not unlikely that I've introduced new errors, but hey, at least I caught some old ones! Editing with love for the win!
The Kobo edition has a whole lot of new errors, but I checked the Kindle preview and the ones I saw weren't there, so... good, I guess? Hopefully that goes for the printed copies, too. And that Kobo people get an update. Errors aside, the formatting is a nightmare. :P
The original text has two letters dated "5 February." I changed the second one to "6 February" - based on Sterne, it seems to fit. The new edition didn't change it.
And oh yeah, I made each letter a different chapter so you can navigate right to a specific date! The new edition is just divided into "PART I: The Toronto Rehearsals January 30–February 25," etc.
In the professionals' favor, they were able to make columns for the cast list. Maybe I can copy their code...
But anyway, check out the official edition for Adam Redfield's afterword! There is new-to-me Redfield lore!

Writeblr Intro v3
Updating the pinned intro now that it's been a year and my (now previously) main WIP is complete as it's going to be.
Me:
I write as a hobby. It's something I do for fun and first and foremost for myself. But if other people happen to actually like what I write, that's pretty cool too.
I try to keep this main blog primarily writing-focused. I've set up the side-blog @traversedmiscellany for reblogging/posting any other random stuff that happens to catch my interest.
I tend to prefer to keep my online and offline lives separate so I rarely say much about personal details aside from what inevitably winds up leaking into talking about my writing.
I am open to tag games and ask games. Or just general writing-related asks.
If anyone would like to be added to a tag list (whether for WIP updates or tag games), please feel free to send me a message or reply to this post, specifying what you want to be on the tag list for.
My WIPs:
Completed (Is it still a "WIP" at this point? Either way, it's fully online and available to read for free.):
The Archivist's Journal:
A slice-of-life story about waking up on a fantasy tropical island told over the course of a year in the form of daily journal updates. Mostly fairly chill, just living life one day at a time, but with some occasional angst, social anxiety, and supernatural spookiness.
The whole story (just over 330,000 words) is posted on my side blog @thearchivistsjournal. Or if you want to read from the beginning, here's the chronological posting. Or if you prefer to read in a format other than Tumblr posts, it's mirrored over on my ScribbleHub.
Also, here's the post I made when the project was completed for some more meta background on it and what I mean when I call it "complete."
I may eventually make additional scattered journal entries as a sort of periodic epilogue, but Day 380 should be considered the end of the "main story," so to speak.
Ongoing:
Empty Names:
My current main project. Also freely available to read in full as chapters go up.
A bit of an episodic urban fantasy moster-of-the-week sort of deal that's mostly an excuse to have a cast of OCs that I like interact with eachother. The basic premise is a world-hopping adventurer attempts to set up a sword-and-sorcery style adventurer's guild in a modern world where "adventurer" isn't considered a legitimate profession. Has what I suppose one might call "genre-typical violence" with fighting monsters and such, and individual chapters are tagged with more specific content warnings where necessary.
Here's the masterpost for it with links to chapters and to several standalone side stories set in the same world/setting.
I'm much more casual with my update schedule on this project, but it seems to be coming out to posting weekly chapter updates for a month or two at a time and then taking a month or two off from posting while I rebuild my buffer queue for the next batch of chapters.
Also, while it's not exactly a focus, the five characters of the core cast are all some flavor or another of LGBTA+, if that's a selling point for you.
The Witches' Testaments:
A prequel to the currently-hiatused "Solarpunk Witch Story" below that I wrote the loose framework and beginnings of in a sudden fit of inspiration that I may return to sporadically.
The idea was to focus a bit more on the "punk" side of Solarpunk and paint a picture of the effort and rebellion that went into how that world transitioned from Cyberpunk dystopia to Solarpunk... well, not utopia exactly, but something better than it was and striving toward that dream.
And because that sort of thing is bigger than any one person and I had multiple worldbuilding concepts I wanted to touch on, I landed on the idea of writing it in the form of a series of interviews with various characters who lived through that period of change.
Here's the masterpost for it.
Indefinite Hiatus:
Untitled Solarpunk Witch Story:
A project that I absolutely intend to return to one day once Empty Names is finished, but that's going to be a good long while yet.
The story of a freshly-minted "witch" and her AI familiar traveling from town to town in an ecologically-recovering post-capitalism future, providing highly-specialized tech support and environmental consulting wrapped up in enough mysticism and aesthetics to blur the line between what's purely technology and what might possibly be some kind of magic. I only ever wrote a prologue and five chapters worth of an initial arc/town/problem to solve, but I liked what I wrote well enough to share all that online. Ultimately this project going on hold was a matter of it being one project too many for me to handle simultaneously on the time combined with a desire to get more experience at traditional prose writing (as opposed to the epistolary format of The Archivist's Journal) so that I could better do the concept justice when I do one day revisit it.
In the meantime, those initial rough chapter drafts are all up online here: Solarpunk Witch Masterpost
Miscellaneous other writing:
On most Thursdays I'll post small (couple hundred words at most) pieces based on various interesting dreams that I've had. Being based on dreams, the content is a mixed bag. Those are tagged under #my dreams. These now have a compilation Masterpost that I'll do my best to keep updated.
Alternatively, if you just want to browse semi-random excerpts and snippets from the above works, I post a lot of that under #tag game.
Some Standalone Short Stories:
(Stories that were either written to be standalone pieces, or appear within something else but worked well enough by themselves that I gave them their own separate posts.)
The Tale of the Merchant and the Blacksmith's Daughter: A sapphic fairy tale (and, in retrospect after writing, possible trans allegory).
The Melts: An attempt to shift what would normally be body horror into the genre of slice-of-life. "What if your body slowly melting over the course of the day were treated as no more serious than the common cold and you still had to go to work?"
Kindly Basilisk: A human mech pilot who wants to be a machine, an AI who wants to be human, and the relationship they form.

Writing a Novella: What It Is and What You Can Do With It
When you sit down to write a story, sometimes it’s longer than you imagined. Sometimes you get halfway through a WIP and realize it isn’t long enough to be a novel.
That’s okay! That means you have a novella on your hands.
What Is a Novella?
Novellas exist in the world between short stories and novels. Like with the world of novels, there’s no concrete word count for them, but they average between 17,000 and 50,000 words. (Those numbers are based on contests and other places you can submit them.)
What Makes Novellas Different from Short Stories?
You can submit short stories basically everywhere, as long as they meet the submission guidelines of journals, magazines, publishers, etc.
Novellas are too long for literary journals and magazines. They would take up half—if not all—of the issue, which isn’t great for publications wanting to provide readers with a variety of content. It also consumes any ad space in each issue and would essentially prevent the publication from making any money from that printing.
As far as story structure, novellas are most similar to short stories. The next section clarifies that a bit more.
What Makes Novellas Different from Novels?
Novels have a few features that necessitate their length (60-100,000+ words):
Numerous conflicts
A cast of characters
A longform plot that can speed up or slow down in pace
A traditional structure (chapters, the “mountain” plot outline, potentially additional books in a saga)
Novellas are longer stories, but they have different features that require the shorter length (17,000-50,000 words):
A singular conflict
A handful of characters, but mostly less than three
A quick pace
Untraditional structures (they may have a few chapters or none at all; they could have unique sentence structuring; they could have abstract formatting that changes with each chapter)
Examples of Novellas You Can Read Right Now
You may have already read a few novellas and don’t even know it. Check out a few of these examples at your local library to get a feel for the outline and structure of a novella:
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
Never Mind by Edward St. Aubyn
Such Small Hands by Andrés Barba
Sula by Toni Morrison
The Passion by Jeanette Winterson
Mapping the Interior by Stephen Graham Jones
The Orange Eats Creeps by Grace Krilanovich
These novellas sometimes align with traditional novel structures and others break all the rules with elegance and expertise. The more modern stories toward the end of the list are especially inspiring for writers who want to defy the rules of writing.
Where Can You Submit a Novella?
Many literary agents only accept novel-length manuscripts outside of children’s books. If you want to write a novella, try looking for publishing opportunities in places that specifically request them, like:
AGNI
A Public Space
Fairlight Books
The Fantasist
GigaNotoSaurus
Narrative
New England Review
Worldweaver Press
You can find other publishers, journals, and contests in updated posts like these:

(As many or as few as you like 💜)
🍄, 🧭, ♻️,🤔,🛠️
An ask game for writers to procrastinate working on you WIP(s)
2. 🍄 Decriscribe your wip/one of your wips in the format of “___ + ___ =___”
Child + Demon Summoning Ritual = Found Family???
(The question marks are a very important part of the equation, trust me.)
It’s for the same fic mentioned in this ask.
4. 🧭 An alternative title to your/ one of your WIP(s)?
A Far Cry From Eden had several alternate titles I considered, including The Fall of Eve, and Far From Eden.
8. ♻️ A scrapped idea for your current WIP
I already mentioned how Exorcist!Vaggie knocked a chapter off of my Survey fic, so to avoid repeats I’m gonna pick another fic.
I decided to change the setting in an UH3 smut fic because there were too many different elements going on all at once.
That entire fic is actually going to be based on a scene I had to scrap from Bloodlust and Butterflies. It was in the 2020 precursor fic, Tempting Entertainment, but I chose not to include it in the rewrite because it didn’t seem thematically appropriate.
They were going to be in an elevator, for no real reason besides the fact that that’s where they were in the old fic.
The more I was writing though, the more I realized that I wasn’t doing anything with that setting, and it was just taking away from the things I actually wanted to focus on.
9. 🤔 What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?
I typically get at least a few sentences down when I have an idea in my head, so I might have to rack my brain a bit to find something I haven’t started.
Oh, you know what? I’ve got a whole lineup of Women of Eden fics planned that I haven’t started yet. I’ll tell you one of those.
I want to tell the story of Lilith, Eve, and Charlie.
Eve is not just a mother, but the first mother. Eve and Lilith will have known each other for eons by the time Lilith considers becoming a mother, herself, and I imagine that Eve would be Lilith’s go-to confidant on all things motherhood.
I think Eve would become somewhat of an Aunt-figure to Charlie, and I’d love to explore the dynamic between all three of them.
There’s also a somewhat somber note in that, as far as Eve knows, she will never see her children again. She views all of the Sinners as her children in a way, because they’re all her descendants. She loves them, and she has mourned every year since the exterminations began.
But, they aren’t the children she raised, they aren’t the children she remembers.
There’s going to be some sadness there – some jealousy, even – when Eve sees Lilith and Charlie. I want to write it.
11. 🛠 Is there a scene or anything in the WIP you are struggling with right now?
About 3/4 of the way through my answer for this, I realized it had turned into a vent, so I’m gonna put it below the cut in case people don’t wanna read it.
No one, including @10moonymhrivertam is obligated to read this.
Thanks so much for the ask, Moony. Don’t let the vent fool you, I did genuinely enjoy answering these. I had a lot of fun answering the other 4 prompts, and I think I needed an opportunity to vent.
Hahaha, yeahhhh… I’m struggling with writing in general, lol. There’s some specifics about pacing and plots in a few fics and of course, not knowing Australian slang is a hurdle in writing dialogue for Cherri – specifically 1980’s Australian slang; like, how do I even find that?? – but my main problem is just…
I can’t seem to write. I’ve been burnt out and distracted since Husk’s chapter. I’ve had a busy week this week, and haven’t actually written anything at all.
Cherri’s chapter is currently all just dialogue that I wrote a while back, which is something I tend to do when I get an idea for a fic. I write some dialogue or some exposition that was rattling around in my brain and I fill in the rest later.
Well, it’s later. And I’m making fake tumblr dash posts, hyperspecific polls, and playing ask games.

How to Post your Works to the SQSupernova Collection!
That’s right - it’s almost time for Authors and Artists to put their beautiful works on display! We’ve made our beautiful, wonderful guide to help you post your work successfully - please read it THOROUGHLY before asking questions! We promise we’ve covered almost anything that could cause issues.
The posting deadline for all works is 11:59pm Eastern Time on September 4th!
(What time is that for me? Or, check out our Countdown Timer!)
For those of you with experience posting to the Swan Queen Supernova collection from previous years, this year’s collection can be found HERE - just hit the ‘post to collection’ button and away you go!
Quick reminder - don’t forget to click POST when you are done formatting your work, NOT ‘save as draft’! We will not be able to see or reveal your work if you save it as a draft, and it will not count as being submitted!
For those of you who need more assistance as you prepare to post, read on for more specific instructions:
All right! For those of you who would like further clarification, your first step will still be to go to THIS LINK and click ‘Post to Collection,’ as seen below.
Tumblr media
On this next page, you will enter all of the information about your fic/art - starting with rating, warnings, fandom, category, relationships, and characters. A sample page would look like this:
Tumblr media
Please make sure your rating and warnings are accurate to your fic/art. If you think a warning might spoil something for the plot, you can select ‘Choose Not to Use Archive Warnings.’ Do NOT select ‘No Archive Warnings Apply’ unless your fic/art truly does not have any of the warning elements present in it.
The Additional Tags section is a place to put anything else you feel should be indicated about your story/art. Is it a historical au? Does it take place on a spaceship? Is it fluff? angst? crack? These tags are optional, but many people do use them to organize their fic/art or to find new fics to read and art to appreciate.
Next up is the preface section - this is how you introduce your fic or art!
Tumblr media
Authors - you’ve already sent us a title and summary, so if those still work for you, go ahead and just copy them right in there! If you’ve changed some things up since that submission, go ahead and put your final version in here.
Artists - whatever title you use, it’s probably a good idea to add [Fanart] or [Art] to the end of your title, and to tag it as such in the additional tags as well - this will help people find art specifically!
Notes can be posted at the beginning of the fic - like if you are thanking a beta, or blaming someone for making you do this, or giving introductory notes to the readers about setting, etc - or at the end of the fic, if your notes might spoil part of the plot. You can also check both boxes and put notes in both places!
Now for the fiddly bits:
Tumblr media
The first, and most important, thing to check is that under Post to Collections / Challenges, ‘SQSupernova8′ is selected. This should automatically show up, since you used the ‘Post to Collection’ button, but please check anyway!
You can also choose to gift your fic to someone - authors may choose to gift their fic to their artist, or vice versa. You should have their AO3 name from your match-up email!
‘This work is a remix, a translation, a podfic, or was inspired by another work’ - this will be a handy section to connect your fic to your artist’s art, but you won’t be able to use it until after reveals. Skip it for now and come back to it later, once your partner’s work has been revealed!
‘This work is part of a series’ - if your SQSN was part of a series that you have already begun, you can link it to the previous parts here. Otherwise, skip it.
‘This work has multiple chapters’ - If you’d like to split your work up into chapters, select this option. Once you post the first chapter, you will be able to add additional chapters from the first chapter of your fic/art.
‘Set a different publication date’ - DON’T DO ANYTHING WITH THIS NOW. LEAVE IT ALONE. You will receive instructions in your reveal date email about how to change this date later, to help ensure that it shows up at the top of the Swan Queen tag, so you get the most eyes on it. You cannot change the date BEFORE the date of your reveal, so leave this field alone for now.
You’re almost there! First up are some privacy questions:
Tumblr media
These are all options that can make it harder for people to leave mean or abusive comments - but they also make it harder for commenters without accounts to leave feedback, so consider the pros and cons before selecting!
And finally, it’s time to input your fic or art!
Tumblr media
For fic - if you are comfortable with html coding, feel free to use the HTML editor button in the top right to switch editing boxes. Otherwise, the Rich Text editor will let you do most basic word editing functions, and will maintain bolding, italics, etc pasted in from Word or Google Docs.
For art, you will need some words in the post itself in order to post, so be sure to add a sentence or two about your work, then select the insert/edit image button:
Tumblr media
It will bring up this menu:
Tumblr media
Source - this is where you should paste in the url of the image you are hosting on another private site - so don’t publicly post it to your Tumblr! Use a PRIVATE post, at least until reveals are over. For a list of recommended sites, check out AO3′s helpful article on the subject!
Remember that your image URL needs to end in a filetype, like .jpg, .png, .gif, etc etc.!!! IT WILL NOT WORK IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A FILETYPE AT THE END OF YOUR URL. Your image will NOT appear if your link ends in .html, /, or any random numbers or letters.
Image description - this is very important for people who use screen readers because of vision impairments. Please describe your image as best you can, for example: this is a four-panel cartoon of Emma Swan, a barista, tripping over a chair and spilling hot chocolate down Regina Mills’ shirt. Regina is in a fancy blouse and skirt, and looks very, very pissed off.
Dimensions - if your source image is very, very big, it is recommended that you shrink it down a bit here. You can always come back and play around with the size once you post, so be sure to check that your image isn’t so big it’s hard to see all of it on a normal computer screen.
Aaaaaand, you’re done! If you’re confident everything is correct, you can click ‘Post Without Preview’ (you daredevil, you), but otherwise, click ‘Preview’ and give your story a quick glance over to make sure everything’s in the right place.
Tumblr media
Then, once you’re satisfied, just make sure you click POST on the next screen - this is the only way to submit it to us for the collection!
Tumblr media
If you don’t click ‘Post,’ your work will stay as a draft and will NOT be counted as submitted! Please make sure to hit POST once you have everything ready.
Once you post your work to the collection, it immediately becomes an unrevealed work. This means that its details are hidden from everyone but you and your beloved mods! Unfortunately, this also makes it a liiiiittle harder to find.
To locate your work once you post it to the collection, go to ‘My Dashboard’ by clicking on the menu that appears when you click on your username in the top right corner of the page, then click on ‘Works’ on the left-hand side.
From here, you can access your hidden work in one of two ways:
Tumblr media
Click ‘Edit Works’ on the upper right side of the page. This will let you view all of your works, sorted by fandom, including the one you just submitted to the collection. Click on the title of that work to continue editing it!
Once your work is approved and added to the collection, you can also click ‘Works in Collections’ on the upper right side of the page. This will display all of your works that are currently in collections, sorted chronologically. Your SQSN work should be at the top, with “Unrevealed:” in front of the title. Click on the title of that work to continue editing it!
The URL of your work will also not change once you’ve clicked ‘post,’ so you can also bookmark or save it to come back to at any time.
If you need to add additional chapters to your work, you can do it by going to that URL or locating your fic again as described above, and clicking this link on the first chapter:
Tumblr media
Just make sure to press POST on each additional chapter as well! ;D
--------------------
Congratulations! You’ve just Supernova’d! What a rush, eh? Now just lean back, relax, and wait for reveals. Thank you for participating!
Each creator will get an email letting them know the reveal date for each work they have submitted, at least a few days before the date, so that they can prepare and get their friends hyped up for the reveal! If you hear other people getting their emails and you haven’t yet, don’t panic. There are WEEKS of reveals, so some people get emails very early and some people get emails weeks later. We PROMISE everyone will get an email with their reveal date by the time all is said and done!
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at @SQSupernova on Twitter, or at [email protected] !

State of the Fic(s)
I know it's not Wednesday, but I've had a crazy week. I think to start the new week, I should do a state of the current projects in my 'wip' folder, simply because I've not done one in awhile.
So! Here's a list of current projects I've got going in the 'fic-o-sphere' so to speak that gives you some updates on what's going on with them!
FFXV Related
dal segno al coda
The whole crazy long FFXV fanfic that I've been working on. I had a breakthrough over the weekend that got me out of a rut on part 1, and have decided that something I wrote that wouldn't actually get released at any point probably will (not related to Ad Astra below). It'll be a long time, though, since it's a post-story short.
I've had a goal for awhile that I wanted to have the fic in editing phase by the end of the year, but I'm not sure I'm going to meet that goal at the moment.
Oh yeah. Meanwhile, Elsewhere - the batches of outside POV stories to go alongside events during the main story - has been renamed to Colla Parte. I'm sad to lose the joke based on FFXIV, but I think it's also better to make it line up more to the music theming going on in the names.
There are still the two preview fics:
We Interrupt Your Regularly Scheduled Programming - this is an outside POV fic just before the endgame of the story. It introduces a pair of original characters that were, at first, mentioned on the side, and grew into their own parts.
Date Night - About halfway through the story, Noctis and Lunafreya are reunited and spend a period of time in Insomnia together. I didn't have the space or timing for a lot of what I wanted to do, so I decided to use the ideas as a short with them together in it. It is currently at 2 of 4 chapters, and helps give an idea of the storytelling style/formatting used for the main story.
Twilight
So I'm still picking at this AU in spite of having the fic done. There are a variety of shorts in it still. (If you haven't read it yet, and are interested, the main story for Twilight is available on AO3.)
Sunburned, as part of the On the Job shorts got posted this week.
There are several others in the works, as listed below, all working titles:
There are two more shorts in the On the Job file that are in progress. There may be more in the future.
Group Chat - A batch of unused group texts that I didn't have space for in the main story.
Some Things Never Change - A short of Noct running into Sania.
The Puzzle Box - This is waiting for a chapter of On the Job to be done first, but it's about Noct making his puzzle box that's mentioned in the main story.
A Part to Play - A surprising addition that is turning out to be a bit more world building to the AU than I expected, but Noct is hired to join a small team on a very special project.
There are still some others that I wanted to write that I have in a checklist. I had an Aranea story I wanted to use in the main fic, but never had the space for it. There's another sidestory that's started, but untitled based on an incident that is mentioned in both Twilight and A New Restart.
Hell Diving
So. Uh. This is a stupid thing that's got stuff marked all over and will be a bit more "multimedia"-y of a fic than my others.
Basically, a silly one-shot crossover fic of the chocobros play Helldivers. So. Yeah. thats' a thing.
It just needs a lot of specific creative work to be done before I get into straight up writing it.
Untitled Long Night Story
This whole thing is currently set on the sidelines since I've had a lot of focus on other things. It's still there, and the whole fic just took a bit of a change in terms of storytelling.
I'll get to it. Maybe I'll have this prepared for Halloween this year. That'll be a nice setup.
Ad Astra
A really bizarre/headtrippy followup to dal segno al coda that I wasn't sure I wanted to post. I can't explain anything about this story without spoiling its sister story.
A lot of the notetaking that turned into this was originally to map out the world building that happens endgame in dal segno al coda. It's just come together to make enough for a fic of its own.
Sadly, I'm not 100% sure I have the chops to tell this story well, though.
Non FFXV Stuff:
Random Questions
I'm still working on this! It's still mapped out! It's just that FFXV is back to living rent free in my head right now.
There is also a follow-up to go along with it. I can't post anything from said follow-up until Random Questions is finished, however.
Payday
oh huh. look. a random kiseki/trails fic in the list. I wonder what this could be.
During Yuletide, my assignment had Ys and Crossbell arc stories listed in their requests. A Little Doll's Big Adventure almost didn't get written in lieu of this fic instead, which was a Tio centric story that may end up being way too relatable. I may still write it, as it's outlined.
Lost Traveller
Huh. I wonder what this is...
The Haunting of Karen Jackson
This is a Phasmophobia fic idea I got into my head. It'll be treated as a dossier/report rather than a traditional story. Like with Hell Diving, there are other things I need to prep before I can work on this.

Congrats on 500! 🥳🎉 I’m not surprised at all that you have that many followers cause you are a badass and have amazing work 😘
💌-What is your process for writing? Do you do outlines? Do you have certain things you do to prepare yourself to write?
Thank you so much DD!!!
It's been so fun getting to know you and I'm so glad to be able to share this wonderful fandom with you.
Thank you for asking about my writing process! I hope my answer is a little helpful for you (if not a little bit long-winded).
I actually always start my fics by making a moodboard. While I'm making it, I'm thinking about details I want to include (besides the main ideas) and that helps my moodboard take shape and gets me in the right frame of mind. The moodboard can always be edited down the road if details end up getting changed, but that's how I start.
Then I start taking notes. I did an outline once but I prefer to go less formal now because I add details and the outline format was not conducive to that. I write major notes down as I've thought of them and then as I go through it a second and third time, I add in details.
I often think about certain parts of the story like scenes from a movie, and I like to think about them in detail, with specific dialogue. So I will write those things out too (roughly) and then I can go back later to fine-tune that whole scene. I will build my story around these scenes - them being the major plot points - and the rest gets filled in as I go along. I also get to know my characters more as I go along.
As an example - This scene (from chapter 6 of Devotion) - the highlighted dialogue was on my mind from the VERY beginning of this series conception back in December. I wrote it one of the very first days I was making notes on this story. The first picture (in green) is the raw stuff I put into my notes and below it (highlighted with yellow) is the final posted scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So yeah... I just take notes and add in details each time I go through, focus on main plot points (or scenes), and then write around them. I hope that helps!

Progress Update: 15 May 2022
I hope you’re doing well and staying safe! Hello to new and old readers.
The masterpost with the demo link is: HERE. Reblogs are always appreciated.
> Here is a more specific update regarding what I have been doing:
- I have been primarily focusing on making edits or revisions to what I’ve written so far…
- …That^ probably doesn’t sound like the most exciting bit of news to share, haha. (I think most people prefer writing to editing? I do enjoy going back and re-discovering scenes I wrote a while ago.) The good thing is that those edits are coming to an end with each day I spend hours going over the scene files. I won’t suggest a tentative date for when they will be over, but I’m optimistic about it being soon! 😊
- One positive about this part of the process is being able to re-visit choices that I wrote many months ago with a fresh set of eyes. Adding choices/options allows me to mix the editing part with some new writing along the way. There is this one scene in particular with B that I’m so excited for you all to read. It lets you learn a bit more about the road trip that led to your arrival in Fernweh; there’s some humor to it… Well, depending on what you pick and your MC’s mood at the moment.
Below is a very tiny teaser without much context, though I will say that the change in season around where I live has made the greenery quite photogenic. I could see B snapping pics around Fernweh too:
“No more twine.”
B pouts a little at your comment. “It was the world’s largest ball of it, not just twine…”
“It was a glorified heap of string,” you weakly retort, attempting to shake off your somber thoughts, even if your remark indirectly relates to them. This town is a tangled web that you can’t get caught up in. “Let’s focus on scenery related sights first, okay? Photo-worthy things.”
- In my last update, I also mentioned stat balancing. I am relatively set on how the pluses/minuses and tailored text are triggered after going over them repeatedly. I will likely be testing it once more in some playthroughs.🧐
- I’ve also been tinkering with new chapters, though the editing is taking priority and focusing my writing on certain sections of the story that I have written. I’m psyched to get back into mainly writing!
- - -
> Here is what I plan to work on:
- I will be continuing to edit, though that will change when I move to playthroughs of the unreleased material. I’m about to hop back into Chapter 12 after I post this on here and queue the post on Tumblr.
-  I think seeing the chapters in the DashingDon format helps me notice things since I’m familiar with the colors/layout of the coding editor I use…? Hopefully that makes sense. I used to be the same way when typing in documents versus putting those same words in powerpoints for my classes and catching stuff or seeing places where a sentence could be changed a little. A change of scenery, maybe?
Thank you all for your patience and support! 💚 I’m diligently working on Book 1 even though I’m a little quiet on social media while working on it rn. (I tend to fixate on things.) Best wishes to each of you!💐

Hello.
I was reading your fic Widowmaker and came to a chapter that had news articles in them. How did you manage to format them the way you did in the fic (by that I mean in a gray box and in a Times New Roman font)?
Another thing is how do you figure out how to write scenes related to crime rates and police stuff (like how things work in stations, etc)? Ive read fics with stuff like this (and have been wanting to write a fic of my own at some point), but I never knew how people manage to flesh out good, convincing ones. How do you research?
Questions aside, I love your fics and hope to see how the rest of Widowmaker ends. (Also I hope I’m not bothering you with this ;-;)
Hi!!! It's not a bother at all, I love talking about fics and fic formatting!!!
Making the news articles was something I accomplished using CSS and a workskin. I'm not sure how familiar you are with either of them, but CSS is a style sheet language/coding used to change the formatting of a page. AO3 lets you input it into fics by using workskins! The process is essentially coding up how you want certain parts of the page to look, creating a workskin and putting the code in there. Once you've applied it to that fic, any part of the fic enclosed in specific HTML will have that different look to it! If you're unfamiliar with it, here's some basic stuff for it:
beginner guide to CSS
a step-by-step guide to workskins on ao3
But anyways, I accomplished those sections with some very basic CSS. This was the entirety of it:
#workskin .newspaper { border: 1.7px solid; padding: 20px; background-color: #f0f0f0; font-size: 1em; color: #000000; font-family: "Georgia", serif; }
So all you need to do is post that into a workskin on AO3, apply it to your fic, and once you're editing the fic, switch to the 'HTML' view and enclose anything you want to make look like a newspaper in the following:
<div class="newspaper"> insert your content here </div>
That should get you the same look as what I had in my fic! It's annoying and fiddly, but I love CSS because it can get those different appearances and layouts, and once you get the hang of it, it can be quite fun! This is a very shitty tutorial, though, so if you need any more info I'm always happy to ramble at length on tumblr or discord.
As for your other questions, about how I do my fic research, it really depends on the fic. For crime-heavy fics like Widowmaker, however, I always kind of do research in the following way:
Figure out the jurisdiction/area
Figure out any divergence from reality
Figure out the fic specifics
Now that sounds very vague, so let me break it down a bit:
The first thing I do in any fic, no matter where it's set, is figure out where exactly it is. For Widowmaker, it was Tokyo, specifically Roppongi and Musutafu. Now Musutafu is a fictional area, so I substituted in other central Tokyo locations like Shibuya, since the differences wouldn't be too stark. From here I build my basic knowledge. How do the police work in Japan? What governs them? I never do anything too in depth at this stage but having a low level of background knowledge is a good thing to grab early on.
Next up is, of course, figuring out where irl research is going to fail you. Like it does often in a world set approximately 200 years in the future, where more laws would cover quirk use than traditional crime. For Widowmaker, that meant examining what role the police would actually have, given the widespread nature of heroes (and vigilantes). I made the personal decision that their role would be a more procedural and investigative one, with most field work left to pro heroes like it is in the case of Hawks.
Third is to figure out the fic specifics. This ties in a bit with the second step since that step helps eliminate what you don't need to take into account. This step tells you what you do - the police have a massive role across many areas of law enforcement, so you have to narrow it down. Do they work in drug crimes? Crime prevention? Or crimes against people like murder and such?
Once we know for sure we can start to narrow down our search - general stuff like the makeup of a police station doesn't have to be as specific, but we may need to know the punishments for murder in Japan in a prospective future, and while a bit of bullshitting is inherent in any fic set in BNHA's world, we can get a solid grasp on reality by examining the first part.
A lot of it can be trawling through boring, overlong Wikipedia pages and hunting down articles on the justice system in Japan. But for me it also involves a lot of imagination about how the systems I find solid research on would actually differ with the changes made by any kind of canon.
So that's it really - a mixture of those three steps and just using my own imagination to fill in the gaps! I'm sorry if that doesn't end up being very helpful, sometimes a writer has a very specific research style that suits them, but hopefully it gave you some insight! Again, if you want any help with said research or for me to dig out any of my old sites, just let me know! I'm always down to look at tiny little niches!
Sorry that this answer got so long, and thank you so much for the ask!! I'm really glad you're enjoying my fic so much <3 <3 <3

Audio
Due to the sheer length (plus wanting to preserve the format,) you can find the accompanying dialogue for this post on Google Docs.
Spamta Claus is a Deltarune AU that pulls inspiration from the infamous "Spamelle" concept, but with a fair few twists in comparison. Something goes wrong when the fountain in the library is forming in Chapter 2, causing Spamton to be forced into Noelle's body. You can read more details on the swaps + general premise over on Google Docs! The brand new Spamelle design + the art in the thumbnail were done by @bittybattybunny. She did a really great job bringing my vision for this AU's version of the character to life, and I'm incredibly happy with the final result.
Spamelle technically takes the role of Spamton. (Or does she keep it???) After something with the fountain's formation in the library goes very wrong, Spamton is forced into Noelle's body. Now Spamton is the [[BIG SHOT]] making all the [[Deal(s)]], while poor Noelle is stuck as a passenger in her own mind, watching as the world and the events there within change around her. While she's not the dominant force by any means however, Noelle's various terrified/pained thoughts *do* wind up seeping into Spamton's dialogue a fair bit, much to Spamelle's occasional chagrin.
Motifs:
Silent Night
Dialtone
Lost Girl (modified)
So ye, I've done exactly what I said I would in A Real Girl's description: there is now a second Dialtone replacement for Spamelle over on SoundCloud! This initially WOULD have been the first one, but there was no fuckin way I was gonna post a Spamta Claus track with yet ANOTHER unfitting public Spamelle design, so it was worth holding this back for the awesome thumbnail art + AU-specific Spamelle design! Someone beat me to the punch during the thumbnail's creation timeline, and I'm honestly kinda happy about that. It's low-key tiring/frustrating at times being the only one to even think of trying to fill certain musical gaps with my limited skill, whether it's UT/DR or AHIT, so I'm glad SOMEONE else had a similar thought for once! Anyhow, back on topic. I decided to take a cue from a track that already inspired me before, and base this Dialtone on a holiday carol. And considering how well the time signature lined up already, Silent Night was just an obvious perfect fit for me. On top of that tho, I also included a tiny bit of the original Dialtone melody at the very end of the piano's melody, and modified Lost Girl into the french horn part in the second half. Speaking of which, yeah! I actually decided to go for a more orchestral style in the second half (all while keeping the same phone ringing and dinky toy-like piano underpinning it all.) I figured it would help both bring a somewhat unique flair to this, as well as (hopefully) aid the intended underlying melancholy in this arrangement. All in all, p damn happy with how this turned out, and I hope you guys enjoy!
You can also listen to this track in high quality on my SoundCloud here!

Hey!
So, it’s been a while, and I figured, since Twitter is burning to the ground (which is where I have been for the past, like, three years oop), I’d come back here and make myself a pinned post, and let myself get used to the Tumblr format. It’s been a hot minute and a lot of things have changed, BUT! I’m not going to be a boomer about it and actually learn how to use it; but first! I’m going to be personal and make my introduction.
My name is Timothy! I also go by Delta or Topside. My pronouns are he/it. I’m 21 years old as of writing this post, and I’m currently not in any college or university. I’m working a lot, so activity on this tumblr, or my other blogs (will add at the bottom), will be pretty slim.
I like to draw, and I do, in fact, have an art tumblr! I will post more drawings on there eventually, I’m just not quite used to posting art on social media, as I am much too afraid of it being stolen, copied, or accused of copying. You know, the classic. I also like to write, and am currently trying to write my own book. I am...barely a chapter in, but I’m trying my best. I’m also writing possibly one of the biggest fanfics of my life, for Resident Evil’s Ethan Winters and my self-insert.
I also like to play games! I’ve been getting into a lot of games, which has, unfortunately, drawn my attention from Bioshock, if my lack of activity hasn’t given any hints. I do love Bioshock with my whole heart, the series is held very near and dear to me, and I refuse to let it go. There’s just something about this silly little game. My current favourite games are Bioshock (of course), Resident Evil 7, Far Cry 5, American Truck Sim, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Wobbledogs, Borderlands, Cyberpunk 2077, and Fallout (4, specifically).
I’ve bumped into a couple people that follow me on here in random discord servers, and every time I think, “hey, I should get back to posting on here,” and I never do. It’s gotten into quite a bad habit of mine. I might be a bit flaky on posting on this specific blog, as I feel like I would be blending into just another Bioshock blog that’s on here, but I will try my best to post as much as I can!
Anyway, here’s my other blogs! - Art; @infectedmouth -Main; @neonteeeth
My tags for my talks! - Non-Bioshock related; #topside talks - Bioshock related; #delta dialogue

State of Bandit Fic
Because it has been over a year and a half since i did a proper one of these, and a lot of things have changed, and I want to do one.
Basically.
Under a cut because when we get extensive on these things, it gets really long.  Obviously.
First off, I have been trying to transition to writing profic, which is why I had less fanfic posts in the first little bit of this year.  Obviously, if you’ve been seeing my updates, you’ll notice I’ve done a longer fanfic recently - primarily involving Wanda Maximoff and America Chavez, although the Wanda/Agatha fics are pulling me back to my more recent shipping trends.
Y’all, I miss writing shipping fics and playing around with those dynamics, and it’s fun to find a new ship to write for.  So y’all might be getting more Wanda/Agatha stuff (probably with Wanda/Vision stuff because when I deal with canon, I want to at least address Vision, you know).
So - looking at how I used to format these - I would, what, plans for the rest of the year and then tentatively look at plans for next year?
Y’all, I’m not that organized right now, and that may be because I stopped doing Monday updates and started just posting chapters when they’re done (which also means I’ve mostly stopped beta-ing and stopped second writes).
But I think, in terms of things I’m planning for the rest of the year, it would be something like this:
Finish Finding Family.
This is first and foremost in terms of fanfic fare.  I’m in the last part.  There’s still a good chunk left.  I know I’ve been taking a break for Harximoff stuff, but like.  I think I’m ready to get back into it now.
(This is typical for me.  When I’m closed to finishing stuff, I take a break, and then do a big push.  This is normal; I’m not particularly worried about this going unfinished.)
Post Love Is Not A Victory March, AKA Roisa Soulmate Timer AU #4.
This means finishing my reread of Halfway There, which is where I’m stalled.
This also means doing a second-write for consistency (because I know there’s some inconsistencies between it and Halfway There, which is why I haven’t posted it yet).
The rough has been done since early 2021.  I’m just...stalled.
Post Noir fic.
This is a very tentative plan.
I need to finish going through Noir again first.
This desperately needs some editing and revision.
This fic is almost a decade old, so it needs A LOT of editing and revision.
And one of the chapters is super cringe and Bandit did NOT do the research and does not want to do the research.
But I want to post it, I’ve wanted to post it for ten years, I should maybe finally get around to doing that.
No, there are no plans for Roisa Secret Santa this year, just like there hasn’t been and are no plans for Roisa Fic Week this year.
Sorry.  I’m just.  Not there anymore.  And honestly...I think most of us aren’t there anymore.  But I’ll still take prompts for them!  And, I mean, obviously soulmate timer #4 is up there, so that’s...that’s something, at least.
But those are the three things I’d like to do by the end of the year.  Probably in that order.  Yep.
I do not have anything specific planned for next year and am probably going to be rolling with whatever I’m interested in doing.  Woo!
So - now to the itemized stuff in terms of unfinished projects and stuff I’ve talked about but hadn’t posted and, new category, potential ideas for the future, which is different from stuff I’ve talked about but hadn’t posted in that it’s.  new stuff (and the former also includes stuff I definitely wrote and haven’t posted, not just stuff I was brainstorming and then forgot about).
If you’re here for Harximoff or just general Wanda or Agatha stuff, you want the last category, feel free to skip the other two.  ^^
Unfinished Projects:
In order of oldest to newest:
Pokemon: Blizzard and Pokemon: Hurricane
 These have been abandoned.  Sorry.
Like.  I still know roughly what was going to happen in Blizzard and the follow-up Thunder Snow or...whatever the third one in this trilogy was going to be, but I didn’t have a super concrete idea what was going to happen in Hurricane (I had vague ideas and concepts of some very concrete things but not an overarching story like I did with Blizzard).  It’s not that I’m not interested.  I just don’t feel like writing it right now, and I don’t know that I will in the future.
Sleeping Habits
This has been abandoned.
I don’t even know what the second chapter of this was going to be anymore.  Like.  I have a vague idea, and I know this was supposed to have one more chapter, but ???
The Adventures of Rose, the Baker’s Daughter
Also abandoned.  A lot of these are going to be like that.  Sorry.
Sin Rostro
I’m not sure. I like the idea of this one, but I don’t know if I’ll finish writing it or return to it, and I remember distinctly having the feeling that this particular AU was a bit out of my range to begin with - not because it’s super dark but because it relies a lot on sex, and while I could write a lot of fade to black, this one’s a little more racy than I really want to write right now.  So.  IDK.
Tentatively abandoned, but this is one I could see going back to.
Aftershocks
This has been abandoned.
Emilia Antonia
I shot myself in the foot when I decided to do a love triangle, and I don’t like it, and I don’t want to write it anymore because of that, which sucks because I still really like the idea of this fic. ://
Heart in Motion
Also abandoned.
Geronimo
Also abandoned.
A Handful of Dust
YEAH NO.  Interesting idea, don’t want the follow-through.
Days that Bleed
Also abandoned, but only because I started doing something else with the concept.
Something else that has also been tentatively abandoned.
Jane: The Real Story
This crack has also.  been abandoned.
If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now
I like the idea of going back to this one.  I’d like to go back to this one.  I still remember some ideas of where this was headed, but not all of them - the last time I did a read-through of this, I’d already forgotten where some of these plot lines were supposed to go - but I remember roughly what happens next and where it’s going and where it ends.
But.
This halfway point is also a good stopping point.  Rose and Lu are out of the mental hospital, and they’re happy.  Of course, they escaped the mental hospital instead of getting better, but.  They’re happy for now.
I don’t want to say this is entirely abandoned, although it’s likely.  Of my Roisa fic, this is the one that it’s most likely for me to go back and want to finish it.
Meeting at Sunset
Belle, I was going to implement some of your ideas, and now I’m just abandoning it, and I’m sorry about that.
Siren’s Call
Also abandoned, although I’ve considered taking some of this for something else.
Guns and Spurs
I also still remember the basic shape of this one.  I just don’t know that I’ll actually get around to writing it.  Also I feel like I would want to see Deputy again first, and I don’t own Deputy (yet?) so.  If I go back to it, it’ll be a while.
Mostly I want to get back to renegade Rose, honestly.
What Dreams May Come
I WANT.  TO GET BACK.  TO THIS.
Do you know how much I miss writing in second person?
I was actually getting back into this, and then everything with Iami happened, and I didn’t want to write it anymore because of life circumstances, but I want to go back to this one, so like.  I’m not going to say it’s abandoned because I want to go back to it eventually, it’s just.
IDK Y’ALL.
Falling
I remember the basic shape of what this was tentatively meant to be, but I don’t want to write it anymore.  I, like, kind of do, but not enough to actually get to writing it.  So consider this abandoned.
Gotham University
Yeah, even when I started this one, I didn’t think I would necessarily keep it going.  Sorry.  Also abandoned.
Time Ticking Like A Bomb Embedded In Her Wrist
I don’t want to do the Agent Carter viewing necessary to go back to this.  But I still like the tentative idea of it.  Abandoned until further notice (but MCU soulmate timer au ideas have been...flying.  See below?  Maybe).
On Myths and Hide Outs
I was originally just writing this one for me and then I posted some of the chapters but not all of them so I still have some chapters written but I was writing this one for me and not for y’all and I’m probably not going to post the rest of what I’ve got written, and IDK if I’ll even go back to writing more.  Sorry, not sorry.
I do miss Regina, though.  Hm.
Fragments of Color
Hey, look, one I’m still planning on finishing!
It’s taking a backseat to Finding Family, but, like, I’m still semi-excited for this one?
Excited might be a bit of a stretch.
This one doesn’t stick as close to canon as Kisses Through The Decades did, so.  I’m a little more open on the Harximoff stuff here.  Which I like!  So!  There’s that!
Still tentatively planning on a kiss every chapter, but I don’t know if I can sustain that, considering where this fic would be going.
Finding Family
Said it above, saying it again, I’m in part five, I’m planning on going back to this, I just took a break, time to crack down and finish the thing, etc.
Unfinished Series:
The Time of Your Life
AKA Roisa Soulmate Timer AU
4/5 parts done.
Fic Four still needs to be edited, as I said before.
IDK if I’ll actually write Fic Five, but we’ll see.
Where The Lightning Splits The Sea
AKA Roisa HP AU
I think I got about 50k or something into the second book and then decided to abandon it.  I don’t think a lot of y’all were really reading this, and I just...it’s a lot.  It’s a lot.  I have five more books after this one planned, and it’s just, it’s a lot.  So I’m not.
If y’all want me to post the brainstorming for those seven books, I can!  I have notes on what goes in which book and what set-up is required and the tentative titles and everything.  PAGES of notes.  So, just, if any of y’all want this, let me know, and I can post the outline, I think.
Partly Written and Unposted/Stuff I Talked About but Haven’t Done:
Mexican Stud
AKA Rosalint fic
Yeah, I’m not posting this.  I’m probably not going to go back to writing this.  For a lot of reasons, even though I figured out how to get around the thing I was struggling with.  BUT this was the first book in Epic Superhero Crossover, which, speaking of--
Epic Superhero Crossover
This is too big, y’all.
It is too big and unwieldy and I don’t want to...I want to write it, but it is so massive and so big and I just.  I don’t want to.  Sorry.  I still have a lot of thoughts about it and how things went, and I’m still super into DottieLint as a result of this, but like....  Probably not going to be a thing that actually gets actualized and posted, despite all of the different stuff I have written for this.
Like - I have chunks of at least three - four - different fics for this series started.  And I had...seven? or more? projected?  Kind of like the Roisa HP au, but a little more vignette and sprawling and just I don’t.
Everything’s Coming Up Roses
Abandoned but potentially turning into something else.
Luisa and the Child
AKA Luisa and the Fox sequel
Abandoned.  Sorry.  Mostly I just wanted the freckles scene and extra mythology re: Susanna and Rose’s mom.  But I don’t actually want to write this right now.  So.  Sorry!
Various Roisa Soulmate AUs
Potentially turning into something else.
Also I don’t remember what chorus: romance says goodnight even was at this point.  I do remember dreamers often lie, but.  potentially turning this one into something else.
Timeless/Noir fic
I forgot about this until I saw it one of the other updates, and I know I started it, and I like the idea of it, but IDK if I’ll get back to it.  Sorry.
Also would probably want to finish seeing Timeless again first, but.  Meh.  Probably not.
JTV rewrite ALA Jane doesn’t get inseminated but Petra does
I also forgot about this until I looked at the last update but I’m still tentatively interested in writing this.
We’ll see.
Dani/Jamie highschool/college au?
Apparently I mentioned this?
I’m not writing this one, y’all.  Sorry.
Potential Ideas for the Future:
Wanda/Bedelia Fic
AKA WandaVision rewrite #3 (wherein Kisses Through The Decades and Fragments of Color are #1 and #2, respectively)
Tentatively titled Phantom Limb, or What It Means to Kneel
I still want to write this.
I don’t know how high this is on my want to write list.
But I want to write it.
I miss Bedeals SO much and would LOVE to see her interact with Wanda in a therapeutic sense.  (And also give Agatha therapy, my girl needs some therapy, everybody in that show needs therapy.)
SO.  THOUGHTS.  WE’LL SEE.
Baby Agatha Series
Tentatively titled A Sea Psalm for a Penitent Soul
Other fics in the series have tentative titles, but I will not be going into that here.
I’ve posted about this a lot, and this is my new dark series brainstorming bunny.
I really want to write this, too, but, like Wanda/Bedelia fic, I’m postponing it until after Finding Family.
Yes, this would be a series, despite my initial plans for this to be a single fic.
I know the first two main fics and the opening prologue one-shot-ish thing (which, knowing me, would not stay as a one-shot, but it’s planned as a one-shot).
I also know the tentative beginnings of the third fic and roughly the last couple of fics.  It’s the middle I’m unsure of.
Also the other one-shots.  OH WELL.
Various Harximoff Soulmate AUs
I have a weakness for soulmate AUs, y’all.  I just.  do.
Soulmate Timer AU has come up (and it took a bit of thought BUT I think it can be a thing)
The downside to this is that it would be yet another WandaVision rewrite, and as much as I love rewriting WandaVision and exploring that realm...this would be #4, and IDK if I want to do that many right after each other.
Can Only Be Killed By Your Soulmate AU has come up (this would probably be a short angsty one-shot)
Don’t Age Until You Meet Your Soulmate AU has come up (Agatha quietly panicking in the background while Wanda and Vision deal with their shit has so much potential for hilarity, y’all, but IDK if I actually want to write this as much as I enjoy the concept)
I may look into others - the plans for Dreamers Never Lie, like, the world-building I could potentially use for a Harximoff AU, but I don’t think those lend themselves well to Wanda and Agatha in particular (and definitely don’t to Vis, although one of them would have an interesting angle...hm).
Finding Family spin-off(s)
Wendy could have gone so many different places, y’all, and I kind of want to look into those multiversal variants.
I definitely plan to post deleted/expanded/alternate scenes. (I have at least two for this, and I might have more.  I’m not sure yet.)
I don’t know if I’ll do a direct sequel - originally Wanda dealing with Agatha was going to be a sequel, but thematically it fit better where it is - but there’s always the possibility for that, I guess.  I just don’t know if I have any direct sequel ideas.
Unless I did more Harximoff here, but IDK if I want that, really.  These two are more QPPs than GFs.
We’ll see.
I have talked a bit about a potential Harximoff High School AU, but I fear my characterization of Agatha would make this too close to Carrie, so.  Probably not actually going to do this (although I may do something else with the general idea).
BUT YEAH, THAT’S IT.
TL; DR - I’m only really interested in finishing If You Lived Here, You’d Be Home Now and What Dreams May Come other than, of course, the ones mentioned above, and I have a lot of Harximoff and WandaVision rewrite ideas.  We’ll see what happens with those!

3, 31, 37, and 41 for the fic asks?
3. What are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics?
oooh hm. well. i do love a run-on sentence especially if it's like repetitive to demonstrate a kind of frantic-ness but i think that's more of a stylistic thing then anything else. uh i'm a sucker for found family tropes and solidarity emotions, i think that's pretty classic me. oh that and like. character breakdown monologue, like a character monologuing for a bit and slowly dissolving into saying things they didn't really want to say. and the emotion of characters becoming friends despite themselves!!! those are probably my main trademarks i think. also i don't actually know for sure but i feel like my love of a sense of place probably makes its way into my fics a lot
31. What’s your ideal fic length to write?
actually? shorter. or like medium. i did more multi-chapter ones earlier on but they always ended up being very unwieldy and i struggled a lot with actually completing them. one-shots are way more my thing when it comes to actually posting (although they still usually skew longer because i am so incredibly wordy and this will probably never change)
37. Promote one of your own “deep cut” fics (an underrated one, or one that never got as much traction as you think it deserves!). What do you like about it?
uhhhh i think INTERVIEWS, my two-part interview-style fic about the Party Crash Short Circuit Mills. i think these guys were so cool, and what happened to them was so weird, and i really enjoy the formatting on this one specifically. there's lots of little parallels and easter eggs and things with Implications. plus i just think the characters are good and people would enjoy them
41. Link a fic that made you think, “Wow, I want to write like that.”
okay there are. there's SO many (including some of yours!!!) but i think i need to give props to my first bookmarked fic on ao3, Connie Swap. this multi-part multi-writer epic is truly astounding--they've got in-depth lore docs, artwork, and original songs, and the love and time clearly put into it really left an impression on me. also the authors were, i believe, all like...out of college while writing, and that made a huge impression on me because it was important for me to hear that i could be a "grown-up" and still write stories about cartoon shows and take those stories seriously.
also it's just great writing
