#also charities make your dollar go further
Note
Hi, I have a question about the donation breakdown regarding the charity. It currently says all proceeds will be donated to Doctors Without Borders—which is different than profits. As I understand it; profits account for covering the overhead cost, and proceeds are the entire amount received. If all proceeds are going to the charity, does this mean that whatever is purchased is the same as a 1:1 donation? Like, if I buy a $5 sticker pack, does the entirety of those $5 go to Doctors Without Borders? It sounds great, but I’m not sure how that’s possible.
Hello!
This is a wonderful question! Thank you for asking and giving us an opportunity to be transparent with where our money is going.
Profits and proceeds are indeed different, with profits defined as money made after production costs have been covered (as you said).
However, proceeds is a more vague term, and it doesn't have a singular definition. This is why you may see many non-profit organizations use the word "proceeds" rather than "profits" in legal material relating to their funds and donation processes. It often implies a more complex breakdown of charity funds than simply financial surplus.
Here is the answer to your core question: our goal is to raise $1,000 dollars for Doctors Without Borders. All money made up until the $1,000 mark will go directly to the charity, and not to us!
If we are blessed enough to hit our donation goal, a portion (no greater than 25%) of funds made past the $1,000 mark will go to help cover the cost of production.
If someone purchases a $75 bundle now, while we are still working towards the donation goal, all $75 dollars will go to Doctors Without Borders.
If someone purchases a $75 bundle past the $1,000 goal, and we are operating under the maximum 25% being invested back to production costs, $56.25 dollars will go to Doctors Without Borders, and $18.75 will be used to cover production costs. An announcement will be made on all social media platforms if we hit our donation goal, and it will include details on how the donations will see the above change.
Regarding how this is possible, I (Seeking7, the magazine organizer) have paid for all production costs from my personal bank account. I'm a uni student, but I've been working two jobs for the past year to help save, and while it would be nice to be partially compensated for production costs, it's not my priority at all.
I don't want to put all my eggs into one basket, but if we get past the 1k milestone, I will release a statement detailing the breakdown of all further funds. This will be displayed on the website so that interested patrons will be aware of where their money is going, and will be able to make an educated decision on whether they are interested in purchasing the zine.
Our website also includes a "Where Is My Money Going" tab that includes more details on where and how money will be handled!
In conclusion, we've used the word "proceeds" in the language of our donation because instead of using the money to cover production costs and then using profit to go to the charity, we're doing things in the opposite manner. Once we have hit our goal, then we will delegate a portion of further funds to helping alleviate the burden of production costs, but our highest priority is to raise money for a fantastic charity!
Let us know if you have further questions. We want all interested patrons to feel informed about how we are handling their money, and to be able to make an educated decision on whether or not to support us!
Thank you once again for the great question!

YOOO I’m excited! I wanna respect your time and whatnot, but I’m curious about the app called forrest basically you grow trees by focusing for set amounts of time. never tried it but the app store keeps recommending it to me. from a cursory look at the reviews, some people said it helps with phone overuse (hooray??) it is four dollars, not sure that you want to start with that. anyways thanks for your consideration, hope this blog goes super well :DD
This is actually an app I paid for the premium version of years ago, by chance! So I can give it a pretty complete shake. Here's the review.
Forest: Phone usage control
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Overall rating: Certified, with stipulations. Here's the tl;dr
App includes a disincentive for failure (tree death), so if you're sensitive to even mildly feeling like you've fucked up, this might not be your bag
Low on novelty, so if you need a variety of goals to pursue quickly, this might not be your bag (other plant unlocks take a lot of time, forest grows one 25 minute increment at a time)
Achievements and events are a big plus, with several relatively easy achievements to keep you going.
No Dark Mode
supports a charity so that's pretty cool
Diamonds shop even after a 1 time purchase: go no further if you are susceptible to impulse purchases, I respect them keeping the lights on with optional bonus content, but it can be easy to chase the Purchase Dopamine and we need to say No Thank You
Red Flags: None, this app has been going steady for a few years and for seemingly pretty good reason. I didn't find any red flags with the charity it supports either. It's not on a subscription model, and nothing in it seems to be ridiculously priced.
Dopamine hits: Okay so the main drive for using this app is growing the big old garden of trees, collecting different trees, and seeing the physical space of that garden grow. With this said I have One Major Concern I'd like to get out of the way.
Are you the kind of person that's going to feel like shit if you let a plant die? Will you accidentally tab out, kill a tree, and be miserable out it? Do not use this app.
It DOES let you clear the dead trees out of your garden (see above) but personally I don't find disincentives like that as compelling as positive reinforcement. The app is encouraging about it (as you can see) but personally I'm wary of things where I can receive what feels like a punishment because I was only productive for five minutes and not the allotted ten I needed in order to keep the tree alive. the stopwatch mode reduces this, somewhat, but again, you need over 10 minutes. Make sure you allow texts or calls in allowed apps in settings so if something comes up you don't have to feel bad about killing a tree.
Features: Forest provides you one or two different tree types you can grow as you focus, and a nice little plot of land. I'll be honest, I don't think the free version gives you very much to work with, but the premium version gives you different kinds of trees you can grow, events, social connections, tracking, custom tagging system so you can track what you're spending your time off your phone doing, and best of all, achievements. Forest also comes with both a count-down and a stopwatch mode so that if you'd like to just study or work as long as you can you don't have to just do it in increments, which is nifty, and a change from some other pomodoro counters/timers. If using the app to just do poms/increments, there's a switch to keep the app on while you work.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Price: This app is a freemium (on android), but honestly, if phone restriction usage apps are useful for you, just buy the thing right out of the gate. It's 3.99 (also the price of the entire app on the apple store) and what you get for that price is like 99% of the functionality of the app imo. 3.99$ for a one-time unlock is ridiculously cheap for what you're getting. However. The other trees do take a hot minute to unlock. So if you need that cheap and easy serotonin and you have an intense need for novelty this might not be the move.
I will add a stipulation here: Make sure that phone restriction apps are actually what you Need if this is what you're using. if you're the kind of person who can respond to messages and still be productive, this may not be your bag. If you're on a computer and you're going to end up scrolling through tumblr on your laptop instead of your phone, this may not be your bag. Phone restriction apps are useful mainly if what you need to do is get off tech and go do something physical, like read a book or do chores. I do Not recommend this if what you're trying to do is write an essay on your laptop. It is just as easy to procrastinate on pc as it is on your phone. However, For What It Is, this app is extremely functional.
This app DOES have a diamond store and in app purchases to make extra cash but frankly I don't actually begrudge them this. With a one-time purchase that cheap and regular events that seem to allow you to unlock other plants, they seem to have a good content balance and hey, whatever they have to do to keep the app running. I just launched it again and it reminded me I have the pro version even through I bought that like eight years ago.
Polish + Customization: I'm grouping these together because I really have the same quibble for both, there isn't a darkmode on the settings screen, which is an annoyingly bright white compared to the rest of the app. News is Also bright white, so is the store, generally a lot of the things off the main page are bright white with no option to change them. I do not love that. But everything is easy to find and adjust, and though the load times can be a little slow (which is annoying) I generally can't complain too much.
Roadmap: News tab indicates that the app is still being updated and having new plants added, despite the developers seemingly have a couple other projects going- they've got a to-do list app I'm going to have to check out and one to prevent you using your phone while sleeping.
So there u go: Proceed with caution and respect for your specific needs, but it's top of the line in its category, imo. You just need to make sure that category is what you're looking for.

Hi, could you circle back to Alpha Mechanic Curtis? Also revisit Silverfox Alpha Steve and his art gallery mate?
“Coniglietta,” Steve’s thick and husky voice cut through the silence with strength as he raised his glass and drew all attention to himself, “my darling omega…”
Heat bloomed in your belly when eyes had landed on you, when attention had been drawn from your fiancé to yourself had rendered you a little speechless. The night was planned immaculately, paired with Steve’s engagement gift of his newest piece in your honour that had been sold for a quarter of a million dollars in which the money was to be donated to charity,
He had planned it all from inviting all your closest friends, making sure Jess was settled and snuggled with Sam, and your parents had checked into their suite before being escorted to the venue.
It was perfect, a breathtaking spectacle to honour your love story.
“I want to thank you all for coming to our engagement party to help us celebrate the next step in our relationship. My darling coniglietta, my muse and omega isn’t just my inspiration but she is the light of life.” Steve spoke with upmost honesty and truth, endlessly and endearingly comparing you to the best portion of his life without every going overboard.
“I won’t keep you with a long speech, we want you to have fun. Eat, drink and be merry, but first a toast to my girl.” Steve raised his glass and others were quick to join him, raising their own drinks as you were toasted upon Steve’s request.
It wasn’t half a minute later that he’d finished his drink and started to walk toward you, slowly and casually as if he wasn’t just undressing you with his eyes. Upon meeting you near the bar, Steve’s first move was to stoop low and kiss your cheek, electricity sparking through the contact made between you and himself.
“We have the whole night ahead of us, darling.” Steve slipped a hand around your waist to the small of your back, his lips trailing along your cheek to your jaw as he nibbled lightly on your flesh. “We can call it early if we want.”
“Steve,” you drew your hands up his chest and further, fingertips curling against his neck while you searched his eyes with your own, “you didn’t have to do all this for me.”
“Yes I did,” he hummed into your ear and slowly leaned back at the sound of a voice clearing, “but I promise your mother I wouldn’t steal you too soon.”
“Thank you,” she smiled warmly at Steve and joined your side, “there’s so few men like you, so few good alphas-“
“Mom,” you whined and felt heat warm your belly, yet again, as Steve’s gaze boldened, “stop please-”
“Be good, coniglietta.” Steve kissed the back of your hand before he bid his goodbye, winking at you over his shoulder.

You know what I think of when I hear "I had no choice"?
When it is in reference to a rich white male who starred in a billion dollar franchise, I would have to say that you must have made some big mistakes that led up to this horrible choice, regardless of how many people you support or how much your team was supposed to take off the top. You didn't look close enough at a thing that burned your charmed life to the ground because nothing bad had ever happened before (you even said something so flip and callous during an interview about meditation during the "Lightyear" press tour- it was so shockingly dangerous I remembered it as disturbing even when I was still blinded by The Woke Political Avenger persona).
This lack of ability to cope with a bit of discomfort led you into a fantasy world, not unlike the construct your team created of you for your fans as a Disney Prince, living in your own fairy tale. You didn't have to confront some very concrete realities lurking in the shadows, until you actually did, only they grew exponentially enormous in size and in a moment of "Ready, Shoot, Aim" you decided this was your only option.
So do I feel bad? Yes, but not at any commensurate level to what you should be feeling. I am sensitive you suffer from anxiety and I do believe you have a good heart; part of the reason you got into this mess is that you gave too much and trusted too freely, but I also think you have been coddled and shielded from confronting the demons we all face, also contributing to your current demise.
So I am going to try to be delicate because I know you hate yourself (also a cause of this mess), but I am not going to sugar coat (I'm a Sagittarius and I'm owning my brutal honesty, but as my sister sign of Gemini you should respect that).
Your seemingly no choice decision, even if it had been successful to get you a string of plum roles, hurt many people. The teacher who had to quit because she supported a charity. Jinx, the small dog food company who thought they were signing America's dog dad to help establish themselves in the marketplace. Your loyal fans who saved you from a shattering embarrassment, just to be sacrificed as jealous, crazy and stupid for telling the truth. The people of marginalized communities who believed you were an ally, only to tie yourself- first as a boyfriend, then as a "husband", and hopefully soon as an 'ex-husband"- to an antisemetic, racist fat-shammer, making you guilty by association. And let's not forget all of the talented, hard working actresses that deserved a shot at their dreams- much more than your arrogant, immature, lazy, untalented and entitled wifey. They are all collateral damage in your scheme to save yourself.
But worst of all, you have used your family, friends and even your beloved dog to further this lie, over and over. I suspect this has not gone over well and many of these precious relationships are now strained. I am sure they would rather have you happy, present and whole than be treated to all expense paid trips to Disney World. And if not, they are just clout chasers and you should divest of them.
And what did you get? Still sucking hind teat for any roles, let alone good ones. And you know why? Because the same people who convinced you this was a good idea have something personally to gain by keeping you vulnerable and weak, and are the same ones giving you dreadful scripts, if any scripts at all. You are no longer an actor, but a reality TV star working 24-7 and not getting paid. In fact, I bet for every mistake made or engineered, they billed you for every second of clean up. You may have gotten a part or two, but all are a bit dubious in quality, and where before you could draw an audience to a mediocre or just plain terrible film to, at worst, break even, you are now often the reason it is labeled as awful and, unlike the dick pic, there are no loyal fans to save you. You don't fuck around with karma- it is real and it will find you in whatever pottery shed you hide.
I don't expect you to be super human. But you do have an obligation to be human, flaws and all. And right now you are an automaton, who has no clue of what you stand for because you sacrificed all of that for the handful of magic Nazi beans. Until you can get to the bare minimum of a person- maybe provide an elevator speech of who you are at your core- let yourself feel this pain and emptiness so you are never tempted to go down this road again. It is like an addiction and you need to detox the selfish, shallow privlege out of you.
Trust is the hardest thing to earn back and is at the backbone of any solid relationship so if you want it, you are headed for a dark, tough road ahead and you will have to work harder and more diligently than you will ever have to for anything else in your life, with no guarantee of external reward.
But is it worse than what you are feeling now?

•2 Corinthians 5:18
“Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation…”
Inspired (once again) by this @chimeracarnival
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wrote a story for it too! Be careful though! There’s a lot to read (also I’m out of practice so there’s probably a lot of other issues)👇
P.S: The story is split up into parts and each part has a comic panel that corresponds to it (They’re numbered)
1
‘Another day another dollar…’
The thought echoed through Clover’s mind, the nonexistent sound of her conscience attempting to console her only irritating Clover further as she strolled down the hall, running her hand across the wall in hopes of a sensory distraction.
It wasn’t the first time she’s told herself those words.
It started as a simple saying she sought comfort in. A few wise words to encourage Clover through today and the next. But as her work continued and became more taxing, she found the once auspicious principle having less and less of a desirable effect, eventually just becoming a useless, routine expression Clover tells herself in hopes of sparking that once supportive essence it had. In reality, there was no point in continuing to tell herself such things if they wouldn’t change how she felt. But it’s good to stay positive…
Even after you just had your throat slit.
The lights above dimly flickered, the old yellow bulbs trying their best to cast light throughout the corridor, the indulgent yellow glow of the rustic light sources reflecting the establishment’s old age quite well. The building wasn’t much- an old vintage hotel in reality. But it had a roof, and that was good enough for Clover and her small crew…
The charity work was going smoothly. The last few days had reaped prosperous earnings, mainly because of those who had witnessed Clover's assassination and had donated to her group in support. It was flattering and, frankly, quite heartwarming to see that people in this city still had hearts, despite its notorious legacy for crime. The only downside to all of it was that Clover now had to organize her group’s growing finances. And boy was there a lot to organize…
Her office was a sanctuary and an abode for such things. A place where she could find comfort while managing such vital tasks. As of late, Clover had finally settled on a place to make her office. A small room in the building’s west wing, located at the end of a small corridor accessed the lobby. A perfect spot in her opinion. And now all that was left was to go there and get her work done.
Simple enough, right?
The smooth texture of the manila file folders shifted around in Clover’s arms as she walked, the edges of the paper that stuck out from the folder slightly moving around between the joints of her fingers. She held on tight, however, ensuring that the papers wouldn’t fall amidst the walk to her office. The last thing she needed was any more inattentiveness to herself, especially regarding the incident with the last fundraiser…
2
As Clover made her way further down the hall, however, she began to smell something… Acrid. It didn’t pollute the air, so it was hard to tell where the scent was. It passed her nose in small whiffs as she walked, however, the smell was so… strong. Even in small quantities, the invisible odor burned her lungs like heavy smoke, compelling her to cough violently despite only inhaling a small amount. And the longer the odor lingered in the air, the stronger it began to smell…
Was there a gas leak…?
Clover stopped, putting a hand over her nose as she sniffed the air, coughing even more as the noisome odor took on a sharp scent, like smelling blood but without the scent of iron. She could pinpoint no source from where she was standing, so Clover understandingly took a few steps forward.
Almost immediately, the atmosphere changed and the air began to grow thick, quickly becoming more and more difficult to breathe as if the air was resisting Clover’s attempt to inhale. Her heart sped up as she began to panic, her body soon demanding more air so it could keep up with her heart’s change of rate. But no air came to her lungs… A stinging burning sensation struck Clover’s nostrils as if she had just inhaled water through her nose, causing her to slightly stagger back and pinch her nose bridge. She squinted her eyes as Clover tried to see where the strange odor was coming from, and how it was causing her to feel this way…
The hallway in front of her began to warp. The once lengthwise walls began to twist and turn, almost churning in Clover’s periphery as the environment around her began to contort in physically impossible ways. The popcorn ceiling seemed to liquify into a watery-like state as it appeared to ripple, causing the once stationary yellow lights to move and flash rapidly like party lights at a nightclub, disorienting Clover’s view heavily. The hallway in front of her faded to black, leaving only a few feet of perceptible environment in front of Clover as the corridor around her began to warp even further and a subliminal rumbling sound slowly appeared in her ears…
What is happening…?
WHY is this happening…?
Am I still dead?
Is this the afterlife…??
I was revived, right…?!
Why can’t I feel myself breathing? What is happening?
Why is…? Why Whywhyhelpwhycan’tIthinkstraightwhyisthishappeningwhereamIisanyofthisrealwhatishappeningwhyhelpmestopmakeitstophelphelphelpstopitDaisypleasehelpmewhatisgoingonHELPMESTOP PLEASEHELPMESTOPIT
Suddenly, a gray wisp passed through her vision.
Clover’s head snapped up, her thoughts interrupted as she carefully watched a long trail of dark gray- and strangely opaque- smoke snake past her.
The hallway had returned to normal. And so had her breathing. The strange odor was no longer there, nor was the stinging or the rumbling… Everything was back to the way it was before.
Did she just… imagine the whole thing?
No… She couldn’t have… That wouldn’t make sense…
Her train of thought was cut off by the sudden smell of something fresh, almost like mint as Clover’s eyes- and nose- were coaxed down the hall, subconsciously following the smoke that trailed down that way as well.
3
Her gaze followed the unnatural smoke down the corridor until it stopped right at the last door, where the smoke snaked out from underneath.
That door was her door… Her office door.
4
Clover’s heart hit the floor like a brick, the sinking feeling that followed making her weak in the knees as panic washed over her like a sudden tidal wave, stirring up frenzied and erratic thoughts of fear in her head like angry wasps.
Was her office… burning…?
If there was indeed a fire, then the circumstances of the smoke had taken a dire turn. Clover had kept all of her charity’s earnings inside her office, alongside important documents containing financial data and even intel collected by her group on the Darling Family- the very reason behind her group’s existence. If even one of those documents were damaged or burned, the past few months of rigorous work would all go to waste, and their progress would endure an immense setback. Maybe even a setback large enough to put everyone right back to where they started…
But that would depend on how much property was destroyed.
5
Almost immediately, Clover’s body jerked into motion and before she even knew it, she was charging down the hall, her hooves pounding against the poorly carpeted floor as Clover bolted down the corridor. The undulating wisps of gossamer smoke in the air slowly began to thicken, the thin strands of sulfurous air seeming to spin themselves into dark gray ribbons amidst the blur of passing surroundings. The thick ropes of smoke in the air almost began to swirl in a vortex around Clover, keeping up with her pace and hovering around her as the smoke began to twist in almost animal-like locomotion. It looked akin to a nest of snakes slithering about prey if Clover had stopped to look carefully… But alas. Such trivial details were not of importance at the moment.
6
The smoke had gotten thicker as she rapidly neared her office door and the vortex that had previously lingered about Clover suddenly came to a halt. But Clover, on the other hand, had not.
She burst through the wall of smoke that the vortex had left in her path, a rush of that familiar sharp and heavy odor briefly assaulting her nose as Clover squinted, revealing her proximity to the door. The doorknob was at arm’s length. Clover nearly lunged forward, ignoring all the cautions she should have taken before grabbing the metal handle.
She froze.
Not willingly, however. It was as if the feeling of the doorknob against the skin of her palm shocked her senses… Clover couldn’t move. Her body refused to comply with her attempts to do so, but she was just… Stuck. Touching the doorknob had caused her to freeze altogether.
The odor from before began to creep its way back into her nose, brought by the ascending plumes of smoke from the bottom of the door. The smoke slithered up around her legs and arms like wispy tendrils, leaving a numbing pins-and-needles sensation behind wherever it touched. It spread like fire beneath her skin, causing Clover’s fingers to momentarily lose feeling and loosen around the doorknob. A rush of adrenaline suddenly snapped her senses back into place and Clover, in a flurry of panic and burning pain, finally yanked open the door.
And the smoke was gone.
In fact, everything was gone.
7
Past the threshold of where her office should’ve been laid something far beyond natural means…
A large flourishing meadow, full of life and blooming flowers.
Long tufts of swaying grass tickled her bare hooves as the door gave way, the terrestrial foliage lightly brushing up against Clover’s shins and leaning through the doorframe as she took in the new environment. A huge refulgent globe of light peeked halfway over the horizon, spraying the sky above in a spray of incandescent colors. The pastel shades of reds, oranges, and pinks created a warm gradient of light-colored flame above, serving as an aesthetic backdrop to the occasional cluster of white fluffy clouds that sat well dispersed throughout the sky. And the ground that sat beneath those lovely heavens was nothing short of majestic.
A long stretch of tall grassy fields lay before her, an array of blue and white flowers peeking out among the overgrowth. Enormous bluebells the height of sunflowers and wild indigos towered over the grass, swaying lightly toward the ground, almost gesturing towards their smaller cornflower and daisy counterparts, which were tucked snugly in the grass below. Clover looked ahead and saw that the field was atop a hill, overlooking an abundance of other similar-looking fields that stretched as far as the eye could see.
It was like she opened a door into a new dimension.
What had happened to her office…?
8
As she looked off into the distance, however, something else caught her eye. Amidst her brightly lit and colorful environment, Clover spotted something gray and indistinct floating in her peripheral vision.
It was the smoke from before.
Clover found her eyes following the wispy gray trail once again, watching it snake over the long stretch of field. The tall grass gradually began to grow shorter and shorter until it leveled out to a clearing, at which the smoke led her lingering gaze to the center of it.
There was a person here...
A vague silhouette of a person to be exact. They seemed to be an adult, hunched over and staring ahead aimlessly, however. That assumption was made purely on observation as the figure was completely cloaked in dark and opaque shadows. Not a single detail could be perceived in the figure other than one of their hands, which could be seen compared to the rest of their form. They were holding something… Regardless, the abnormal lighting was a strange phenomenon, which only amplified Clover’s growing confusion and bewilderment.
9
A strong and abrupt gust of wind suddenly blew out from behind her and into the open field, causing the grass and the flowers to bend and sending ripples throughout the landscape. A path began to form as the wind crossed the field, the plants in front of her reverting into seeds beneath the soil, forming a small path through the willowy vegetation. The gust of wind finally rushed past the figure in the clearing and suddenly, the shadows on the figure lifted. And to Clover’s surprise, the figure had shrunk.
A young girl, looking no less than 14 years old, sat where the shadowy person should’ve been, wearing a bright red dress and a woven sun hat, tied with a matching crimson bow. Clover could finally see what the figure was holding and noticed that she was holding a daisy between two of her fingers, gazing at it silently as its petals blew in the wind. Clover couldn’t help but let her eyes stay fixed on the girl, finding herself almost entranced as she stared.
10
The subtle air of mysteriousness in the atmosphere suddenly lifted, and the tension Clover didn’t know she was holding in her body was released. The wind in the air reduced to a calm zephyr, bringing a sense of ease with it as the tall grass began to sway towards the clearing, almost as if her surroundings were beckoning Clover forward. The girl then turned around, shifting herself so she could face Clover properly. A long and slender pair of butterfly antennae hung down from the back of her head, swaying like the tall grass as she turned. Another pair of feathery moth antennae drooped down the sides of her head, framing the girl’s face. A single ruby-red eye stared back at Clover, glistening like scarlet pools behind cross-like pupils. A long pipe stuck out of the side of their mouth, revealing to be the source of the strange smoke as more wisps continued to undulate out of the chamber.
The two held eye contact for a brief moment, a strange sense of deja vu- no, familiarity- slowly overtaking Clover the longer she held her gaze with her.A faint smile formed on the girl’s lips, almost as if she could tell what she was thinking as she pivoted more of her body towards her.
“Hello, Clover.” Said the girl.
“It’s nice to see you again.”
(Hope you enjoyed!)

Heartfelt pledge for unity to our fandom family
My dear Grishaverse family,
We're all heartbroken after Netflix announced the cancellation. For most of us, this wasn't just a TV show but what saved us from the depth of despair as we were struggling with some of the darkest chapters in our lives. A few years back, I was very sick and almost died. This show gave me hope, courage, strength, and a reason to fight, survive, and see another day. I met great friends through Grishaverse conventions and online fandom groups. After losing all my biological family, this fandom has become my home, family, and refuge from the darkness of real life.
And let's not forget that aside from a few stars and famous names on the show, for most of the cast and crew, this has been the most important project in their entire career. People often make the false assumption that actors are all rich, looking down at us from the penthouses of their ivory towers. But if we look past the few stars, every frame & scene involves the efforts and toiling of dozens or hundreds whose names we ignore within the credits as we click on the next episode. The majority of people working in the movie industry don't have stable jobs, pensions, or even health insurance. The majority of them struggle to make rent. Imagine their lives and the lives of their children when they come back after a long strikes season to be hit with the news that they don't have a job to go back to. Imagine yourself, your parents, siblings, & children going through that. Some of us, working in other industries, like service, know that feeling too well & can very well relate. For the rest of you, I hope you will never experience that.
So it's crucial that we stay together, united and strong as a family as we call for a renewal.
But recently, as I joined others in campaigning and raising funds to convince Netflix or any other streaming service to bring back the show, I've been confronted with a divide within our fandom family. I do understand some of the points of view and every single person is entitled to their own opinion. In fact, there's disagreement in every family. My sister and I fought a lot, often over the most trivial things. But from the outside, we always represented a united family. Sometimes, I would be jealous of her getting a gift. But she would tell me that as long as one of us got a prize, we could both share it. It doesn't matter whether it would be the 3rd season of Shadow And Bone that we'll get or a Six of Crows spinoff. We can share in each other's success because one will lead to the other. That has in fact happened for many shows, which have gotten both further seasons and spinoffs thanks to the strength of their fandoms.
We're currently campaigning on two fronts: the petition (https://www.change.org/p/save-shadow-and-bone-5ff54b93-d127-44a9-9f77-dfc410bdc2ba) & the Kickstarter to raise money for billboard (https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/647648562/save-the-crows-six-of-crows-spinoff)s
We've gotten a number of objections I wish to respond to:
• Why not invest all that money, time, and effort in supporting a more important cause? This argument makes a few false assumptions. One can support more than one cause. I know for a fact that many of our donors to the Kickstarter campaign and all the organizers also donate and support various charities and noble causes. There are indeed wars and genocide going on in our current world. I have donated to Doctors Without Borders ([MSF.org](https://MSF.org)), and I highly encourage everyone to do so. Moreover, as I've mentioned earlier, this show isn't just entertainment. As a war, genocide, and abuse survivor, I know the value of hope and having a little respite from the brutalities of real life to gather enough energy to survive another day. The 9,000 dollars this Kickstarter has raised so far isn't enough to end wars or world hunger. But we have been getting messages from people in bomb shelters who have gotten to watch the show and it helped them. The show also provides positive representations for people like us who cope with genocide, human trafficking, civil war, abuse, chronic illness, disability, mental illness, and even being bullied and alienated for just being different. It gives us hope that we can turn our lives around. That we aren't too broken to save ourselves. That we matter. And again, let's not forget that for the crew working on this show, it is a matter of survival, it's how they feed their children and make rent. If our 9,000 dollars would have a chance at saving a hundred crew members from homelessness, I would take it.
• Why should the Darkling fans care about another season or a Crows spinoff? Putting aside the bitterness of "why should I care about a cause that will not benefit me personally?", we can still hope that another season or a spinoff could eventually give us back the Darkling as per how the Rule of Wolves book ended. Another season or the spinoff can have the plot of saving the Darkling (if you haven't read RoW, you need to check it and the ending of it where the crows are to be given a mission for that very purpose.) I won't go into more details due to spoilers.
• Why should the fans of other non-crow characters care about a Crow's spinoff? Based on the Crooked Kingdom plot, characters like Nikolai, Zoya, Genya, David (we don't know exactly what happened to him in the show, so let's hope for the best), Tamar, and Tolya are also featured. As for Mal and Alina, we can hope that based on the direction season 2's ending has taken, both could be featured in the spinoff. And even if the current script didn't feature them yet, we can still convince the writers to remedy that and include both of them. We do have our channels to do so if only we get the show back.
So, I ask you, my dear family, please help us save this show that is much more than just a show.
Please donate to the Kickstarter if you are able & ask friends, social media followers, and anyone you can influence to do so: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/647648562/save-the-crows-six-of-crows-spinoff
Please sign the petition: https://www.change.org/p/save-shadow-and-bone-5ff54b93-d127-44a9-9f77-dfc410bdc2ba
Please let us all keep a united front on social media and in public. Like every family, we can have our differences, but together we stand stronger than alone. Don't let them divide and conquer us.
And please, please let's keep it civil, respectful, and polite both in the comments here and anywhere online, on social media, and on any other platform.
I wish you all the best and hope we'll get our show back. Lots of love for all of you my dear Grishaverse family.

Hi! I have a fundraising question for you, after I accidentally donated to a charity via check instead of Paypal. What are the consequences of someone agreeing to pledge a certain amount and then not giving the money to the charity? Can that have legal repercussions? At what point can someone still ask for their donation back, if the money hasn't been transferred but was pledged? 1/2
Mailing a check obviously means there's a delay between agreeing to donate the money and the money being processed, and I was thinking about all the potential ways that could go wrong. Like the check bouncing by the time it arrives to be processed, or being lost, or someone claiming they'd mailed it when they hadn't. Is that a major issue at your charity? Thanks! 2/2
So, the simplest answer is that it’s not a particular issue; if an ordinary everyday person pledges an amount, even after the amount is paid they can still request it be returned, within a reasonable timeline.
(This got long, so I'm putting it under a cut...)
I'm not sure what the time limit is but I know we've had people who had a payment taken out of their account by mistake and it took them a week to notice, and we've sent the refund. We don't want to be dicks, and until you get at least above ten thousand dollars, the amount you gave and took back doesn't have significant impact on 99% of nonprofits. A bounced check is irritating, so it'd be good manners to call the nonprofit and say "Hey I sent you a check, it's going to bounce," but I've never heard of that happening at ours (I'm sure it happens occasionally).
In terms of donations being lost in the mail, we're usually not aware those donations were incoming because most people who mail checks put the form in with the check, they don't tell us ahead of time. If a check is lost, whether the person did mail it or simply claims they did, we ask them to cancel the check and send a new one, then make a note that if the old check shows up, shred it. If they sent the check, it was cashed, and we have no record of it, we dig back through the paperwork and if we can find no evidence of it, we advise them to start a fraud complaint with their bank. This is rare; generally if they paid us and the check got cashed, if they're not getting credit for it, it's a data entry issue on our end.
In the nonprofit world, "pledge" has a specific meaning; it means a promise of payment, and generally involves some kind of structured plan (ie you can't "pledge" $20 by sending a $20 check, that's just a gift, but you can "pledge" to pay $20 monthly for the next year). Pledges are not legally binding until big, big sums of money get involved, because at that level you're signing legal paperwork about them. Even for high-level donors, if they can't or won't pay, litigation is generally not the first option. Unless you deliberately knew you didn't have the money and used the promise of it to defraud the organization, there's no criminal consequence, and most nonprofits won't bother suing over smaller-level accidental over-pledging. It's bad optics, and generally a waste of time, and also I think we consider it rather cruel.
My old nonprofit once had a guy who had pledged $500K ($100K/yr for five years) fifteen years ago. We still have the pledge active in his database entry, we just added a note saying "unlikely to pay" and "do not accept further pledges". We would still accept a gift from him, we simply wouldn't accept any structured payment promises.
Very rarely, a large nonprofit might get into litigation with a donor, but even then usually it's the donor suing to get money back rather than the nonprofit suing for full payment. A nonprofit at that level usually just shrugs, takes their name off the building, and finds a new donor to fill their place. If the donor demands back money they've already paid, the org might enter into mediation or litigation, in which case the donor may be blacklisted from further giving.
It takes a lot to get a donor to do this; one reason people give large sums is that it's good PR, and suing for money back from a nonprofit is extremely bad PR, so generally it's only done when the nonprofit has committed extreme malfeasance with the money or the donor believes they have. There are a couple of very wealthy people in Chicago and New York who now find it extremely hard to give at the higher levels because they've made gifts, then demanded the money back for various and generally specious reasons; they're known to have that pattern and a lot of places either won't touch them because they don't want the legal headache, or will only accept gifts under extremely strict contracts that the donors generally refuse to sign.
So yeah...TLDR it’s usually not a problem, and when it is, it’s a problem only for billionaires, who could use to have a few more problems in my opinion :D

A/N: This is all me. I'm shipping you with me, but also I'm married to Erwin. But we could kiss if you wanted us to. (I have no idea what this is but its over 3k long and I put my heart and soul into it, and I just wanted it posted as soon as I could because I love it THAT MUCH.) - Nemo
Summary: Somehow you - a nobody college student- have found yourself invited to the most prestigious New Years parties in the country, and the hostess takes a liking to you.
Warnings: Some bitchy guests and a cry in the bathroom.
Masterlist || art <3
Tumblr media
Invitations to the Smith’s New Years Parties were unspeakably converted.
Getting an invitation was like getting a ticket to the Wonka factory. Everyone was jealous, but some respect was given to you because you’d done something worth being invited to the Smiths. Them being the most prestigious and known couple in the whole city - sweethearts by any name and with enough combined wealth to have their generosity make a difference - everyone loved them.
Everyone wanted to be them. Or be with them.
Erwin - the husband whose charisma left anyones knees weak, and a quick thinking mind that never had him clutching at straws for what to say. He was surely his parents pride and joy, handsomely picturesque and with a kind smile to boot.
His wife, though, was more than just a pretty face to hang off his accomplishments. She was truly the heart and soul of their kindness. Erwin wasn’t half as ready to spend a few ten thousand dollars on charities every few months, but his wife? She threw cash around to those who needed it as much as she could. And he’d let her, he’d do anything for her.
She had him wrapped around her little finger like a teenage fool in love - even though they’d been married for close to ten years - and anyone could tell she was just as head over heels for him too.
The Smith’s never held parties at their home - parties were to meet new acquaintances, the home was where you had friends - and each New Years Eve celebration was at someplace new. Someplace glamorous and glittering like the stars, photos of it splashed over social media the next day. Last year it was at a garden near a lake - further out from the city and done up like some storybook wonderland.
And they never went to the same place twice.
Tumblr media
You’d been dropped off in front of the building by a cab - a sprawling red carpet lined the footpath up to where the doorman stood by a revolving door.
You could see people chatting inside the foyer - all dressed to the nines. One had a glittering yellow dress with her hair done back in intricate braids and a man on each arm who were decked out with just as much glamour - one in red with a thick mane of hair, the other in orange with a blond undercut. They looked like they’d been before.
Remembering how you’d started looking for an outfit as soon as the gold envelope came through your mail, and how you’d looked at yourself in the mirror thinking you looked really nice. Even your roommate said you looked the part. Simple, and the earrings really pulled it all together, you’d thought. Thinking now, though, maybe at least you shouldn’t have found your clothes at a second-hand store.
Gripping your clutch, you approached the doorman - a little unsure about what to do. He smiled kindly, and you offered a shy one in return and fished out your invitation. He instantly recognised it with a nod and instructed you to take an elevator to the eleventh floor.
And if you were feeling intimidated in the foyer - simply passing everyone by to get to the lift that would take you to the party - it was nothing compared to how you felt stepping out of the elevator.
You looked to your left and knew exactly where you were supposed to go.
A huge dining room lay beyond two propped-open glass doors. Twinkling lights of gold and yellow lined the ceiling, and round tables were decked out with fancy dinner sets and cheese boards of food. Across the far wall was glass, and a balcony looking across the cityscape - perfect for firework viewing, even if you stayed indoors. Another wall had a stage with a wooden floor in front of it, where a band had been put together and was currently playing upbeat jazz, while the opposite wall across the tables was more food - and no doubt the kitchen.
You could tell - while it was a big room, and probably wouldn’t be chocked full of people - that only about half the guests had even arrived yet and it was only just past 9pm.
You worried momentarily that you’d have trouble finding a seat, but a table plan came into view as you walked through the doors. Finding your name, you felt your palms get sweaty. Surely these were randomly assigned - why else would you not only be sitting on their table, but also right next to Mrs Smith herself?
You felt a great need to sit - anywhere at all really - because of a wave of lightheadedness, but luckily your table was close by, near the centre of the room. Of course it was.
Once seated, a waiter passed by with a tray of various drinks. You picked one and gulped down half its contents in one go - to cool your insides down more than anything else. A cheerful eruption of greeting had you turn your direction back to the balcony - and there they were, enthusiastically greeting the trio you saw below in the foyer.
Erwin stood with an arm around his wife. He was in a deep gold three piece suit with the top three buttons of his dress shirt undone. He looked like he’d stepped off one of those business magazines you’d see in a corner store display. His wife looked just as photo-worthy.
Her hair was styled back and her dress had a red velvet corset with a flowy silk skirt - a slit up one side with shining silver stones around her neck and wrist, and a shimmer of more around her exposed thigh.
They were, admittedly, less flashy than some of their guests, but it was obvious that they held the attention of those around them as they greeted everyone with shaken hands and kissed cheeks.
Tumblr media
As the minutes ticked by and they greeted more guests, you started noticing things.
You’d never been so close to them before - mostly seen on social media clips or tabloid news - but they kept sending looks to each other back and forth. Softer, or harsher, knowing and less so - all depending on who they were talking to. Something about it made you think they were telepathically linked - after so long together people would start to think the same way.
You didn’t know at that point in the night, but it meant they weren’t as kind as they looked.
It meant Mr and Mrs Smith could be cruel, and mean, and they could shun whoever they wanted - and with how everyone liked them, and how powerful they were, meant they could get away with it. It meant everyone would follow.
Socialites were like that - people came and went just like trends, no matter how big your impact is. But the ones that stayed, by some soul-selling miracle, stayed for good. And those that stayed had the biggest say in who else was able to stay too.
Luckily, more often than not, the Smith’s kindness outweighed their darker side. And luckily, others in their circle were more than content following.
Bottom line; whatever they say goes.
Tumblr media
The night went on, and eventually - despite your inner turmoil about how you should go and approach them yourself - the couple made their way to your joined table. By now they’d begun nursing drink glasses of their own, and an arm reached beside you to place a champagne flute down.
Then a silk red dress slid into the seat next to yours.
“Hi,” she said, and you had trouble meeting her eyes, “You must be -”
You blurted out your name before she could continue, sticking your hand out to shake. She took it, wrapping her fingers around your palm and shaking slowly.
“Nice to meet you, officially. I’m really glad you were able to make it tonight.” she softly said, letting go of your hand and grabbing her glass again as she got comfortable in her seat. “I was a little worried you’d get scared.”
You met her eyes for a moment - some shade of brown, or honey, maybe green? - then turned to the platter of food, distracting yourself by choosing a grape.
“Why would I do that?”
“Most college students we invite don't even RSVP.” You gawked a little at that.
“How’d you know I was in college?”
“We try to invite a variety of people to our parties,” she said as if you hadn’t noticed - which you hadn’t. “We request looks at the more promising non-scholarship students in a few colleges - there's a lot of job openings that can come from simply meeting people - so we give them a chance to get their feelers out on some more upper-class opportunities.”
She leaned forward on her elbows, trying to meet your eyes. When you did, she smiled - there you are, they said.
“Not everyone needs scholarships, what they need is a chance to prove themselves to the right people.” You knew she wasn't necessarily wrong.
You still would’ve liked a scholarship though.
“So don’t drink too much, and go say hi to some people.” she said, leaning a little closer to give a reassuring pat on your shoulder. “If you need anything, come interrupt me. I’d love an excuse to get away from some of the people here.” She turned away from you with a wink, giving her attention back to her husband - who you noticed as he did you, and raised his glass in brief greeting.
You looked around the room - indeed there were a few people here you recognized - there were people who matched with both your major and interests. If only you didn’t feel so much like you were thrust into the deep end of a swimming pool with no floaters on.
Tumblr media
It was ten minutes until midnight.
So far, you've done better than you’d thought you would’ve when it comes to introducing yourself. Quite a few people were rather friendly, and the ones who were less so still had made conversations short and sweet. Though one thing had been bothering you most the night.
You’d guess from their age, and how they all lingered together that they were college students like you - invited for their promise in whatever major they studied - but unlike the two or so students you had met, they stuck out like sore thumbs.
You did too, in a dull kind of way, but they did in a way that was worse. Like the gaggle of popular girls at prom who were spoiled and entitled and did themselves up too much. Or like they didn’t belong because they snuck in.
They kept looking around the room, giggling and pointing and talking behind their hands. Surely more than just you had noticed how clique-y they were being. Most gossip was pointed at other guests - as if any self-respecting person would dare to do that to the Smith’s guests - but as you walked past their table back towards your seat, you heard them talking about you.
“Look at their fit, it belongs in a dumpster.”
“Been busy kissing ass all evening, hope they know a New Years kiss is meant to be on the lips.”
How had they even been let in, you wondered, as you tried to ignore them. You looked fine, and you were doing what you were told to do. They arrived after you, and you knew that they hadn’t been given the attention or time of Mrs Smith like you had.
You were sitting on the Smith table, you reminded yourself, they weren’t.
But somehow that only made you feel worse.
Most of the guests were inside the dining hall or out on the balcony, leaving the foyer sparse - you hopped the bathroom would be empty. Because you were washed with a wave of sadness - you should be in bed, you shouldn’t be here. You didn’t fit in here. You needed a little cry as the clock struck midnight.
The bathroom was just as fancy as the rest of the building, but you didn’t think about that too much as you ripped some paper towel from around near the sinks, and practically fell on one of the ottomans. You heard the door Swing open behind you and tried to fix yourself enough for whoever it was to pass by without asking anything.
But then they sat down behind you, and a hand brushed your shoulder before running away again.
“What happened?” Of course it was her - someone ran from her party crying, she’d need to know what to fix so it wouldn’t happen again.
“It’s nothing.” She leaned back on one hand, sitting far enough away not to push the subject, but close enough to know she wanted to know. You sighed.
“I don’t really fit here.” you mumbled, picking at the paper in your hand. “It’s nice, and it looks really pretty, and I do really like it here, but it’s… I’m not…”
“It’s intimidating, I know.” she said, quietly nodding. For once, when you looked up at her, she wasn’t looking at you first. “It took Erwin half of our marriage for him to stop having to convince me to come to these parties - and they’re mostly my idea.”
She looked at you, and crossed one leg over the other.
“I know how you feel. I swear it.” She said, “And I also know that you’re very brave. I didn’t last half as long as you have at my first New Years party, and you don’t even have a husband to hide behind.” She tapped her fingers against the fabric of the seat, and you had half a mind to believe what she said - that someone so at ease now used to be as skittish and unsure as you.
“Thank you.” you breathed, feeling a little better, and using the paper to wipe away your ruined make-up. She watched as you composed yourself, smoothing down the front of your clothes and fixing your hair a little. You stood near one of the large mirrors, feeling a little overwhelmed still.
Her nose scrunched, and she tutted as she shook her head.
“Here,” she said, turning and reaching behind her neck, unclasping her necklace, “Try this on. Sometimes you need something flashy to hide behind.”
“Oh no, I -” But despite your protests she ignored you and pulled the shining crystals across your neck. They were still warm from where they once were on her. Shining against your skin, and you had to admit they looked even better when they were this close.
“They look like part of that Cartier necklace from the movie.” Your comment made her let out a breathy laugh.
“This is Swarovski, actually. Quite different.” She said, adjusting the gems so they sat flat. “They suit you.”
“I can’t wear it.” you protested. She shook her head, standing behind you in the mirror.
“You can keep it.” she said, insistent and stubborn, “It suits you. We’re supposed to all look fabulous in crystals - but I look better wearing pearls, you’d be doing me a favour.” Of course you would be.
You reached a hand up to graze the crystals - they did suit you, and somehow matched your outfit down to your earrings. You looked back at her, still stunning even without a centrepiece of her jewellery.
“What about you?” She raised an eye. What about me? ”You don’t have one anymore.” You explained, fiddling with one of the gems resting on your collarbone. She smiled, a smug cheekiness reached her eyes.
“It won’t matter, my husband will be quick to remedy the situation if it does.”
Tumblr media
She’d let you through the door first, after you’d finished making yourself properly presentable again. What superied you - more than the rest of what had happened so far tonight - was how easily her hand slipped through to rest in the crook of your elbow. You found yourself not minding as much as you probably should have.
It was like she belonged there.
You could see in the eyes of the guests as you walked back into the room. They took you both in and waves passed over their faces.
It wasn’t pity or shock as they registered the fact you now had a necklace, and that she was missing hers. It was recognition, and for some certain ones - ones who knew they’d made some awful mistake in making you feel bad - dread.
It told everyone that you had someone watching your back - someone they didn’t want to have to find themselves facing if they were to try and get to you. It told you that you were going to be okay, that you had a friend - one that could be the best one to have on a night like this.
It helped you. Made you feel a little more important. A little more pretty. You guessed, from what she said, that half of belonging was looking the part.
The necklace wasn’t diamonds - they were crystals - but on the neck of someone so important it didn’t matter what they weren’t. It mattered what they looked like, what everyone would assume they would be.
No one would look twice at a string of gems on the neck of Mrs Smith, thinking they weren’t the Best. No one would look at you wearing her necklace thinking they were fake either.
She was right in saying that what you needed was something flashy to hide behind.
Tumblr media
As the timer changed from minutes until seconds, you found yourself in a pleasant position. One you would’ve never guessed you’d be in. Ever.
You were still in the dining room - technically - but the windows separating it from the balcony had been pulled back and bunched together so you couldn’t tell when it started or stopped. A cool breeze cut through the room, diminishing the stuffy atmosphere and making way for a clean slate - a fresh start to a midnight new year.
Five.
Mrs Smith still had her fingers curled around your arm, but she’d latched onto Erwin on her other side. With all the people in the room, standing and sitting and dancing, you fit right by their side like a always-been-there friend. Like you belonged there.
Four.
You looked across at the groups of people, eyes catching on the same trio from before readying themselves for kisses and cheers. Them and others preparing to welcome a new start with every stereotype imaginable under the sun.
Three.
You watched Erwin lean down to whisper into his wife’s ear, she reflexively gripped you tighter as she giggled at his unknown words. You smiled even though you didn’t know what it was about, because it felt like the right thing to do.
Two.
2023 would come to an end with a cheer and flash of lights. With kisses and new beginnings. You knew, deep down, that this would be a better year. For the first time in a long time you felt that this year would be better.
One.

Monthly Checklist: Deep Dive into the May Lifestyle Challenge
This month I’m running the #maylifestylechallenge on my Instagram (sneakersnshakes) and I wanted to take a moment to talk about what this is, where it stemmed from, and why it’s important.
In a previous post (one of my first ones actually) I talk about Setting Goals, specifically what I call Monthly Notes.
I suggest you read that post (linked here) since I’m only going to be brushing over the topic as I outline how I structure my months.
On top of my Monthly Notes (these are the goals more specific to each month) I also follow what I call a Monthly Checklist which is a baseline and applies to ever single month.
The checklist is broad on purpose and encompasses challenges that push me towards growth.
This checklist is as follows:
-something new
-something creative
-educating myself (usually denoted as documentary)
-giving back (usually denoted as donation)
Tumblr media
I want to go down this list and talk about different ways these goals can be accomplished.
-.-
Something New
It can sound pretty daunting at first, especially for those who have done a lot of wild things in their lives, it can be hard to imagine what new thing you could possibly do. The key here is it doesn’t have to be a big thing.
Of course, if you’re able to go someplace you’ve never been or skydive or something crazy then that’s great! But your something new can be as simple as ordering a new drink at a coffee shop, or maybe trying out a new restaurant.
The objective of this goal is to further yourself in some way, push some boundaries even if it’s really small, and encourage exploration.
 Something Creative
Like all the other goals in the checklist, this is left broad on purpose. Maybe your something creative is as simple as taking a cool picture, or slightly more complex like trying your hand at painting some happy little trees or fruit.
Some easy ideas I’ve used in the past to check this off the list is
-making a card for someone (birthday, mother’s day, thank you cards, etc.)
-doing a photography challenge (I have one on my Instagram if you’re interested)
-practicing calligraphy or trying to write in different fonts
There might even be free art-oriented classes or events at your local library or craft store if you need more guidance. (These can maybe double as your something new)
The objective of this goal is simply to create, add something new to the world that didn’t exist before you created it!
 Educate Yourself
As you saw from the picture above this is something I usually do through watching documentaries. It’s the easiest way to learn about something that you might not have heard about or considered. (Or conversely offer a deep dive into a subject you’re interested in).
My go to website for educational and free documentaries is PBS’s NOVA, linked here: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/videos/episodes/
Of course, you don’t have to watch a documentary, here are some alternatives:
-listening to a podcast
-reading a book
-going to a museum
Even watching a deep dive on YouTube is a great option. There are tons of ways to educate yourself.
The objective of this goal is to keep growing and expanding your knowledge base or simply just learning something new!
 Give Back
I usually do this by donating. Obviously, it’s important to check up on a charity before you donate but there are great sites like this:  https://www.charitynavigator.org/ that will help you gauge an organization.
You also don’t need to donate a lot of money, sparing ten or twenty dollars is still better than nothing.
If you don’t have money to spare, there are still ways to give back, donating old clothes or extra food is always a great option.
Volunteering at shelters, libraries or any charity organizations near you is also completely free and very fulfilling.
I also recommend adding this chrome extension if you want to donate money for free: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/tab-for-a-cause/gibkoahgjfhphbmeiphbcnhehbfdlcgo?hl=en
Basically, every time you open a new tab you get a heart (a few cents of add money) and then you can donate those hearts to various charities.
The objective of this goal is to uplift and help others, to contribute to making the world a better place!
-.-
These four checklist items I set for myself every month is the inspiration behind the #maylifestylechallenge. It’s just a more structured way to accomplish these goals with each week having a different focus.
(Last week was something new and this week is something creative, hence the blog post).
This checklist is a great way to set a baseline set of goals, especially if you don’t have, or want to set, any specific personal ones
Tumblr media
So this month, I challenge you to the May Lifestyle challenge and see how it impacts you. Do you feel more productive? Or maybe just better knowing you’ve done something to grow yourself and others?
Please share your thoughts in the comments! I’d love to hear them!
Thank you all so much for reading! And I’ll see you in the next one!

'Change the regulations': Moncton metal recycler not buying catalytic converters right now
Staff at Moncton Headstart Inc. in Moncton, N.B., noticed something was very wrong when they warmed up one of their buses early Wednesday morning.
Caroline Donelle, the executive director of the early child and family intervention centre, said the catalytic converter was ripped out by a thief.
Video surveillance shows it took the culprit less than a minute to cut out the converter from their parking lot on Mountain Road.
It's a serious setback for the registered charity that helps low-income families, some in at-risk environments.
"For us, that's 10 days off the road minimum right now. That means 20 kids don't come in during the week and get fed, and loved and nurtured and all the things that are so important to what we do," said Donelle.
Donelle said they're fortunate because the garage they deal with won't charge them labour for the repairs, but the cost to get the bus back on the road will be around $1,000.
It's the second catalytic converter theft in just over a year at Moncton Headstart.
"We don't have gobs of money," she said. "I've got to remind the community. It's not just us that this impacts. It impacts everyone. Insurance rates rise, there's a cumulative effect to all this thievery."
Just up the road, the catalytic converter was also stolen from the bus at Home with a Heart daycare on the very same day.
That's the daycare's only bus, so they had repairs done right away at a cost of around $3,500.
"We've already got it fixed," said daycare director Tiffany Brown. "They didn't just steal the catalytic converter, they also stole the oxygen sensors. It's our only bus and it's our only form of transportation for the children."
Robert Nowlan, the vice-president of Tri Province Enterprises, was saddened to hear about the thefts.
He says crimes like these shed a bad light on the metal recycling industry.
"It definitely does because people hear of the thefts and automatically they think of the scrap yards and everyone's out buying converters," said Nowlan. "We've bought converters for years. Obviously we don't want to be buying stolen catalytic converters."
Nowlan said the converters are made out of platinum, palladium and rhodium - high value metals - and that's why they're so popular with thieves.
They can range in price from $50 to a couple hundred dollars.
The family-owned company took a position last year to not buy them but they may start again when new provincial regulations are introduced.
"I think the first big step is to change the regulations. Make sure a registration from a vehicle has to go with the catalytic converter when you buy it," he said. "Taking photo ID, paying by cheque, those are all great ideas. Maybe that would be a step in the right direction."
Donelle wants to go one step further.
"Shut down the buyers. If the thieves have nowhere to sell the stuff what happens to them? They're going to be less inclined to come slide under your vehicle at night and cut out the catalytic converter. I don't know what the answer is," said Donelle.
Nowlan believes one answer is stiffer penalties for those who are caught stealing them.
"Put stiffer fines," he said. "Everybody has a cell phone. If you see somebody doing something they shouldn't be doing, take a picture. Report them. Let's throw a $20,000 fine on those people."

survey #078
What was the name of the first friend you ever made? Brianna. What is your dream honeymoon destination? Alaska. I want to see the Northern Lights with my partner. How many followers do you have on Instagram? Uh I just checked and actually both my main photography one and roadkill photos one have 86. What TV show will you always recommend anyone should watch? Extraordinary Attorney Woo, absolutely. That show touches me SO deeply; I'm very very sympathetic to those that suffer with autism (hell, *I* might), and I think it does a good job at expressing how important it is to treat everyone equally and open your mind to how others just exist differently but also just the same as everyone else. I hope that makes sense. It's just a very emotional and well-written show that highlights beauty in the individual. If you won one million dollars and HAD to spend it, what would you spend it on? So it sounds like charity isn't an option? In that case, I'd get a new place for Mom and me, a new car, figure out what debt I'm in to handle that... those are the important ones I can think of. I'd have to think further and more carefully on the less-important things and I don't feel like doing that rn for a hypothetical.
How many people have seen you completely naked in the last five years? Ummmm... I honestly want to say just one, my mom. Have you ever dated/been “involved” with someone of another race? If so, did your parents know? If not, would you ever? I dated Juan for literally a day, and he's Hispanic. Mom knew, but I don't think Dad did. He probably thought SOMETHING was going on though, because we used to hang out kinda regularly and pretty much since we met he was very open about liking me. Do you watch Criminal Minds? No. What’s the most depressing movie you’ve ever seen? The Boy in the Striped Pajamas tears my fucking heart open. I only ever watched it in school a few times, and each time I very easily cried at the end. Which TV shows do you own on DVD? I own seasons 1-4 of Meerkat Manor. I do plan on getting the fifth whenever it's released like that. Who is the first person who broke your heart? My dad, honestly. Do you know anyone who has fought in a war? Girt's dad was in Desert Storm, I know. I think my Mom's... grandpa was also in a war? Someone on her side has been. Who is the last person you cut out of your life? Mini, again. She shared transphobic shit (among other stuff...) on Insta and I was like nope, bye, for good this fuckin time. I can't stay in contact with her and pretend I'm standing for the rights so I firmly believe in. Name ONE good memory about your last ex? There was one night the first time I visited her where we just chilled in the room I was staying in listening to music and talking about the most random and pointless shit. I felt really bonded with her that night. Have you ever been shot? No, thankfully. Let's keep it that way, please. What has damaged you? More than anything, just poor mental health, but also broken promises, betrayal, losing people (I handle loss SO fucking poorly), growing up with parents that never stopped fighting, witnessing alcoholism, witnessing my sister be abused, and I guess in some ways you really could say love. Loving too hard is a real fucking thing. What kind of trees do you have in your yard? I actually don't know what they are. What do you feel guilty about? Jesus Christ... I'm tempted to skip this because I feel guilt over so much. How I treated Jason, how I talked to my dad before we made up, not having a job nor going to school, not exercising like I should, neglecting/not further exploring my talents, never being able to remember shit, not having stronger relationships with my siblings, not being as proactive with helping around the house, neglecting my physical health, and honestly for just... not being a friend to myself, at all. I want to stop here, this is upsetting me. Do you have commitment issues? That's something I've never struggled with. What is the coolest thing you can do? Uhhhh... idk. When did you last feel overwhelmed? I felt overwhelmed in the BEST fuckin way possible a couple days back; the Silent Hill franchise has been no less than totally revived with like, an hour-long (I think longer?) announcement of MULTIPLE upcoming game installments and a new movie! The first thing to be shared was the trailer for the FUCKING REMAKE of Silent Hill 2, my favorite game in the entire fucking universe, and I literally cried and shook for SO LONG, like I WANTED to faint. I am ECSTATIC and so fucking hyped to see how everything develops!! Do you have anything from past relationships? Yeah. Who was your most serious relationship? Jason, but Girt is getting pretty damn close as far as seriousness goes. I'm older and more matured now and this relationship is DEFINITELY healthier. When was the last time you cried? At the Silent Hill 2 trailer I mentioned a couple questions ago. My excitement is just so, so fucking beyond words. It actually LOOKS GOOD, which is super encouraging because a very large portion of the fanbase actually hasn't wanted a remake. I was on the fence about it, but I am SO into it now having seen the preview!! Do you ever feel left out? When? Yeah, I guess... I sometimes get jealous of Ashley and Nicole's relationship, thinking about it. They're pretty close and definitely talk with each other more and meanwhile I'm just over here in the corner uncomfortably twiddling my thumbs because I don't know how to engage with them. How useful do you feel to others? I feel COMPLETELY useless. Is there a loaded gun in your house? Do you have access to it? No, that wouldn't be legal with my mental health and history. I don't even WANT access to one. [TW: SELF-HARM] Have you ever inflicted pain on yourself? How? Yes, because I used to cut myself, usually with weird things like paperclips and thumbtacks. I never wanted to bleed out, just distract from the emotional pain. I also remember an occasion where I was just banging my fist against my bed's headboard to focus again on physical discomfort versus what I had going on mentally... Jason had to literally grab and hold me to make me stop. Do you like gore? Usually, anyway. Do you write poetry? Are you any good? Occasionally, and I guess I'm okay... I've actually been teetering on the brink of trying to write two poems and it's kinda a goal of mine to maybe publish a poetry book or something. Do you think dragonflies are cool? I do. What’s a game that you play often? I play some World of Warcraft pretty much daily. Do you like fudge? I fucking LOVE fudge, like that's one of my favorite treats in the world. Best movie soundtrack ever: I honestly feel like I gotta go with either Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron or Tarzan. Phil Collins is just a fucking legend. What was your favorite Disney movie as a kid? It was The Lion King and still is. I also very thoroughly enjoy the sequel and did as a kid as well. When’s the last time you were at a playground? A few years back when I was taking photographs for someone's family. Have you ever been to an apple orchard? No, but I would absolutely love to. Were there any cartoons your parents didn’t let you watch as a kid? Ummmm I don't know about not LETTING us, but I do know my mom really didn't like Cow and Chicken as well as Catdog. The former I didn't like/didn't watch anyway, but damn did I love Catdog. Do you need to clean your room? Sigh, yes. My mom dusted for me one day so a lot of plushies and knick-knacks had to be moved around and I just... haven't put them back. I'm going to before Girt's family comes here next weekend, though. I need to at least look like I have my shit together. I am heavily considering redecorating my room to something more minimalistic so it's easier for me to keep up with keeping it tidy and not a dusty disaster... No one ever really changes. They just get better at hiding their flaws. True or false? That is absolutely false. Do you drink milk? I do, but I wish I could change to something non-dairy... because the dairy industry is appalling. I am just so motherfucking picky. Could you handle motherhood? No. I can almost GUARANFUCKINGTEE I would end up killing myself or surrendering the kid because I just couldn't handle it, and that would haunt me to the end of my days. Would you rather have a bulldog puppy or a husky puppy? I don't want another dog period, but I think I would have to go with a husky; I don't support the breeding of animals that can't fucking breathe, so although I think bulldogs are ADORABLE, I couldn't stomach buying one. I guess however if it was purely an adoption/rescue case, I would definitely pick the bulldog. Huskies are SO fucking stunning, but I know I'd be bad at keeping up with grooming them as much as they require. Pancakes, or waffles? Eh, I go back and forth. Both are great. Do you read the prologues in the beginnings of books? Uh, yeah? Who doesn't? Do you think that ocean boardwalks are fun? They really are, actually. I just wouldn't enjoy them/literally couldn't now because of all the walking... but they offer some pretty cool and unique stuff. I had the BEST fudge one time when Colleen, her husband, and I all went on a random daytrip to the beach. When it rains does it leave a lake in your front yard? No, but holy shit that was the story of my childhood home. The whole area handled rain very, VERY badly, like the ditches 'round that area pretty much constantly have water and there's even this one spot where if there's a sudden downpour? One road is absolutely horribly flooded. It's a joke there. What color is your music device? Hot pink. Do you dread when people ask you to sign their yearbooks? No? I always thought it was really nice for someone to even WANT my signature. Where is one place that you’d never be caught dead in? Strip club, to name one. Apple Jacks; yay or nay? Holy shit, I forgot about those, but big yay. They're great. What is the last cartoon that you have watched? Uhhhh... it woulda been something at Ashley's place yesterday with the kids. I feel like it was Spidey and His Amazing Friends (something like that), though I wasn't paying much attention to it. Have you ever been to a nursing home? I know I have at least once, to see the woman my mom used to take care of literally the day before she died... It was one of the most fucking heartbreaking things I've ever seen. I literally started crying in the room while trying so hard to hide it from Katherine. She was basically a corpse already. I literally cannot put it into words, what I felt looking at someone who was alive but also so, SO dead, and I barely even knew this woman... Who do you know that watches the most sports? Uh, either my dad or sister's husband, probably? Do/did you get into trouble a lot at school? Not at all, really; I was super well-behaved. I only ever got into trouble for having too many morning tardies, which were always my fault because I never wanted to get outta bed... Do you usually initiate hugs? Yes actually, I love hugs. Do you say “I love you” to your best friends? I am VERY much for telling your friends that; I sure do. If you could meet one famous person, who would it be? Markiplier. Do you hate it when people look over your shoulder? YES YES YES YES YES. Even if I have nothing to hide, I DO NOT like people doing this. Like I will literally stop what I'm doing. Who was the last person you offended? Probably Mom... she woke me up mid-nightmare this morning and I just totally screamed "WHAT?!" at her while still asleep. I felt like total fucking shit. Like I was THANKFUL she woke me up, because the nightmare involved getting in a fight with Jason, and I DO NOT want to know where it would've gone. I apologized to her and she said she understood that it "wasn't me," but still. I feel like shit. What is one thing you never want to lose? My pursuit to be artistic is one. Do you have a Wii? Yeah. Did you honestly listen to Michael Jackson before he died? I didn't really listen to him before or after he died. I mean he has some songs that are nice, but his music isn't something I chase. Do you ever have so much energy that it’s annoying? ... No? I honestly wish????? I have practically no energy. What is the most significant health issue you have been dealing with lately? I mean, probably my weight. I'm really struggling to get the protein I need to get these shots to do their job with burning the bad stuff, so my weight isn't moving much. I HAVE lost water weight though/have pretty much succeeded in incorporating a MUCH healthier amount of water in my life, but I'm still just frustrated. It's like nothing I do works. What was the name of the first guy/girl you dated? Aaron. What is something you love that you can’t get where you live? Uh, I'm real uncertain here; the only thing I can think of immediately is Hot Topic, which is a minimum hour drive to reach one. What quotes from TV or film do you use regularly (if any)? I don't think any, really. What are weird sites you can’t stop going on? Uh, none that are "weird," I think. What was your worst “Oh shit! Why did I say/do that?!” with a kid? I think just cursing on accident. I put sincere effort into not doing it around kiddos because they generally just don't understand when "bad" words just aren't appropriate in many social situations. What’s your biggest “I need to get a life” moment to date? Oh, fucking easy. Jason literally told me the most dedicated and ambitious he ever saw me was during my ~three-day intense camping of one of the rarest mounts in WoW, called the Time-Lost Proto-drake. I scheduled my sleeping/waking schedule to sync the minimum spawn times of it and the rare it shares a spawn chance with. It was extremely difficult to do but I sure did get that mount two days after my birthday. Him saying that still haunts me to this day, since I STILL kinda take his word as pure fact, and hearing him think I never tried harder for something than I did in a stupid game is fucking excruciating and I'm going to stop talking about it now. What stories are an absolute must read for your children/possible future children? IF I had kids, um... to be totally honest I've forgotten the plots of most children's books, but I remember I really liked Chrysanthemum and its message of meeting uniqueness with acceptance and even adoration. I'd have to ask Mom what some of her favorites were to read to me and my sisters and brother, and which ones had the most important messages. What are some of your favorite monologues? My #1 is FUCKING EASY: the passionate rant of what the world becomes by the villain to the player of Amnesia: The Machine For Pigs leading up to the final scene. I get absolutely covered in goosebumps every. Single. Time. I sometimes even shiver. It is BEAUTIFULLY written and just heartbreaking and haunting in how true it is. Do you actually think it’s gross to talk about body functions? Usually no, especially if they're very normal, pretty much everyday things. HOWEVER, I do believe sometimes it's just better to not share, like over food or if you're around queasy people, etc. Would you rather sleep alone or next to your SO? Next to him, though at the same time I worry severely that I'm going to have a nightmare with him there and lash out in my sleep... When you go out to breakfast, what do you order? If we're talking sit-down restaurants, I tend to favor pancakes or waffles with sausage (or sometimes bacon) and scrambled eggs. Have you ever worked at the same place as your best friend? No. Is there anything hanging on your bathroom walls? No. What’s the largest animal you’ve ever seen in person? So I wasn't sure which was bigger, elephant or orca, and a quick Google search isn't giving me a super clear answer, but it does say orcas are generally heavier, so I'd say an orca because I went to a Shamu show as a kid at SeaWorld... which I would never, EVER set a single toe into ever again. Would you give mouth to mouth to your dog to save its life? Absolutely. What’s the best burger EVER? Gotta be real man, Wendy's Baconator is fucking perfection. Did you ever show up late for an important event? I don't THINK so.

Dilf Deku Headcanons
Midoriya Izuku x GN!Reader
warnings: swearing, NSFW themes (nothing graphic just briefly mentioned),brief mention of bullying/scars, idk this is pretty tame nothing is really described... if u don't like dilfs then don't read this :)
a/n: okay! this is my first time writing/publishing anything on Tumblr so please go easy on me haha... I've had ridiculous Deku brain rot lately and I decided I had to jot a few thoughts down. I'm playing with the idea of turning this into a writing blog, but I am undecided! If anyone wants to thirst for one Izuku Midoriya please come talk to me please anyway without further ado here are some Dilf!Deku hcs.... I'm playing around with doing a NSFW version after this so if you would like to see that let me know!
w/c: 1,498
Okay everyone today I want to talk about Dilf!Izuku
This may be controversial but I personally believe that he has the most Dilf potential out of any of the class 1A boys and no I will not be taking criticism at this time
Sorry but even when he’s younger he has Dilf energy - he’s caring, considerate, takes your feelings into account like a dad he just wants to take care of his baby
oh fuck this man no no no
And listen, here me out on this one….. he has more dilf potential than Bakugo and allow me to tell you why
We can all agree that Bakugo has been confident his entire life, so of course he’s going to be confident when he’s older?? duh
But IZUKU is a different story altogether, he’s never felt confident in his life
His whole childhood he was looked down on for being quirkless, and bullied by someone he thought was his friend kachaan
THEN he got a quirk but oh every time he uses it it breaks all his fucking bones and leaves him with all these scars, and he appreciates them because of what they represent but also he’s young when he gets them, he’s already prone to insecurity and when he’s younger ESPECIALLY i think they just remind him of previous failures
He only started to gain a little bit of confidence in his UA days, but it takes time to rebuild yourself after you’ve been torn down for so long, so I honestly imagine he doesn’t even feel an inkling of confidence until his third year or later and even then, it’s new, it’s unfamiliar, he doesn’t totally know how to act
Because yes, by his third year, he’s starting to realize, oh wow okay, I have an incredible quirk and all these new abilities that I can control better, and wow people are paying attention for good reasons , because he’s tall and attractive, probably cuts his hair undercut Izuku supremacy and he’s made some solid friends who help boost his confidence too
But despite all this, deep down he still feels like that quirkless little kid who has to work three times as hard as anyone else and still doesn’t get the recognition he deserves
But OH BOY
DILF IZUKU??? This man is dripping with confidence
he’s older now. he’s overcome a lot. he’s gone to therapy, and worked his way through the pro hero ranks until he earned his number one spot fair and square, that’s something no one can take away from him
He’s loaded now (see below because I go on a whole tangent), he has nice tasteful style that can only come with age and experience
He knows he’s hot now, because its simply no longer something that can be denied, anyone with eyes can see how attractive he is
If he catches you staring at him, he doesn’t shy away. His cheeks might tint slightly, but he stares right back with the biggest smirk on his face. “See something you like, angel?”
Probably finds reasons to show off slightly but he’s Dilf!Izuku so it’s subtle, it’s meant just for you and god does it drive you crazy
The way he’ll reach for and grab at things when he’s around you because he knows you like his hands (he wants to hold your bags and please let him he just wants to feel needed)
They way he stands behind you while you cook, or work, or read…. He sees you sitting or standing so peacefully and he’ll come up behind you to check out what it is you’re doing. He’ll lean down slowly, quietly, stopping when his breath is on your neck and your nose is filled with his scent, and take a quick peek at whatever it is you’re working on. It takes you a moment to turn around, your heart starting to beat faster in your chest due to his looming presence behind you (I DON’T KNOW WHY THIS IS HOT TO ME IT JUST IS OKAY). When you finally turn to face him, his face breaks into a small smile of victory as his strong hand catches your jaw in a gentle grip and he places an achingly soft kiss to your lips before saying “You look so cute when you’re concentrating,”. As you’re about to go in for another, he lets you go and stands up again, his eyes twinkling. “No no, you’re working so hard baby, don’t let me distract you,” WHEN ALL HE WANTED WAS TO DISTRACT YOU and he succeeded and now you’re all hot and bothered, with no hope of resuming what you were doing
Dilf Deku is a tease I know he is but it’s okay he’ll make it up to you later ;)
He’s got shorter, slightly more cropped hair with grey mixed in with the green, his face more lean and angular… not to mention years of pro hero work have toned his body into an absolute work of art I’m gonna pass out just thinking about it
Freckles splashed across his skin like hundreds of little constellations, accented by scars and marks from old wounds (which he’s come to appreciate - they show how hard he’s worked, how much he’s sacrificed to get to where he is now) he’s muscular but I don’t think he’s quite as big as All Might (his fighting style is a lot different so of course he would build muscle in different places) so this means LEGS LEGS LEGS
LEG MUSCLES FOR DAYS
THICK FUCKING THIGHS oh my god
And holy shit his back muscles too WHEW sometimes in the morning when he gets up before you, you watch him sit on the edge of the bed and flex his shoulders and arms to stretch out in the hazy morning light and Jesus Christ
Dilf Deku is older now, he’s spent his entire life working himself too hard and he missed out on a lot of the fun, impulsive, chaotic things young people do, so I think he wants to let loose a little in his older age, have some fun for once
And what’s more perfect than sweet, youthful, tantalizing little you to indulge in ?
He’s so doting, just wants to make you feel special and cared for
And on that note, if you will indulge me for a moment
he’s fucking RICH like
He’s the number one pro hero, he has brand deals on brand deals on brand deals
And I don’t mean to slander All Might and Endeavor, but in terms of a hot, fuckable number one pro hero, Deku has them beat by a landslide so I imagine he has a wider range of brand deals too, because he can sell the sex appeal angle
I mean can you imagine him in interviews? Interacting with fans? Confident yes, but still soft spoken and kind, almost gentle but anyone can tell he’s completely in control, of himself, of the interview, of the audience, this man has the entire country world wrapped around his little finger
All this to say he’s DRIPPING WITH MONEY
he’s like the guy that overtips an OBSCENE amount like if the waiter is really nice he’ll tip like $300 dollars and won’t even blink (I know they don’t tip at restaurants in Japan but this is more for vibes yk)
sugar daddy deku isn’t a stretch it’s a REALITY
Y’all can be officially together or not, either way Deku loves to spoil his precious little y/n
All you have to do is smile sweetly and ask, and he’s absolute putty in your hands
Complies with even the most egregious of your demands, because hey, he has the money to spare, and how could he say no when you look so cute asking so politely?
GOOD TASTE too like he has a lot of money but he knows how to spend it 😏
Additionally he’s, ya know, him, so he’s insanely charitable and donates to charities, go fund me, personal Venmo accounts of fans that need it
if a fan has like a go fund me for some reason that catches his eye, he’s going to donate and he’s going to donate a lot (A LOT)
he doesn’t even do it for the press, he does it bc he’s a good person but my GOD the press eats it up and so do the fans
These hc’s are so self indulgent but all this to say
Dilf!Deku gets what he wants when he wants it and no one is standing in his way
So when he decides it’s you he wants? Well then it’s you he’s going to get!
