so, chengyao have BIG divorced energy. and that is great for modern au scenarios, yes?
but what about. what if. chengyao being passive-aggressive (jc) and patronizingly polite (jgy) to each other during cultuvation conferences is also delicious. idk, maybe jc told jgy not to spoil jl that much and now they’re about to draw blood. i know it’s not professional of them to have it out at discussion conferences, but we’re talking a-ling!! the stakes are highest!!!!
anyway you know when you are in someone else’s home and they have an argument with their family while you awkwardly pretend to not be there? chengyao are arguing and the rest of the jianghu is just 🧎 staring at the ground, it’s painfully uncomfortable.
nhs is having a blast tho. look at these two babygirls arguing about another baby, hilarious.

[The way of the househusband AU]
XiCheng | Mo Dao Zu Shi Modern AU 28-12-2021
[the way of the househusband, but make it #xicheng >:3]
Where Lan Xichen was high in the Lan triads, powerful and feared, gaining the name of Zewu-jun. The last story about Zewu-jun was how he beat up many people from rival groups before just... disappearing!
stories of him being killed, sent to jail or moving to another country are travelling around while no one in the Lan group will confirm anything.
But lxc isn't dead, far from it.
He is playing house husband for a hard-working salaryman He fell head over heels for the beautiful Jiang Cheng the very moment he saw him, taking his nephew out as a reward for being a good boy.
Cue a scary, but polite, man trying to seduce the tired uncle.
Jc is a bit unsure at first, but quickly finds the man intriguing and nice.
Wanting to be with jc without pulling him into a world he doesn't belong in is what caused him to want to get out of it.
Some wouldn't believe that the great Zewu-jun was now a house husband, cooking diligently for his husband, taking care of the house, loving two little boys after another one joined the weird family.
jc and the boys even got used to how weirdly lxc could speak sometimes as if he was talking about criminal activities. but this makes him endearing to jc, who finds it funnier than anything when he knows what he's talking about. The boys sure seem to be amused too.
lxc: then you cut it into little pieces, stuff it into the little bag and dump it into hot what, then the job is nearly done
oyz parent: *looks concerned*
oyz: mister lan xiao long bao are the best!!
ljy: of course, my baba's cooking is the best😤
teacher 1: Who is this scary-looking guy? Should we call the cops?
teacher 2: I don't know, I think we-
ljy: baba!!😮☺️
jl: shushu came to get us?
lxc: the boss is doing overtime 😔 but like this, we can surprise him with a good dinner, will you help me 🤭🤫
kids: yay!!
yes, I've finally started reading the 6 volume of the way of the house husband I bought this semester, and I just thought lxc could work well too 🤭 although we just gotta imagine that himbo looking scary to other people smh
also OF COURSE lxc has a cute apron with a bunny on it that the big boss (aka a-cheng) gifted him soon after they moved in together, he takes great care of it and always uses it
oh and of course all the older ladies on the street also love lxc because they find him funny and love seeing a good husband working so hard for his family. also, they love sharing tips with someone who needs it and gossiping around 🤭
I really wanna draw this now 🤭 maybe if my hands don't hurt too much once I get back from work I'll try drawing this little family adding some more for 3zun: jgy was in the triad because of jgs, taking his step-brother (jzx) path of quitting, especially after lxc just decided to quit they meet again when jgy comes by to see how jl is doing with jc, having heard that he had found someone to live with (and want to make sure that person would be safe for little a-ling).
what a surprise than to find back an old friend because of a-cheng ☺️
nmj is either still in the triads or the nie clan got disbanded after his father died and some other gang used that to attack. maybe NHS saw how it affected his family too much and left it happen (they are much happier now anyway)
maybe they meet again by "accident" when nmj "happens to be passing by the neighbourhood" (totally not jgy telling him where Zewu-jun was and him wanting to make sure he was alive and well)
nmj 100% approves of jc after seeing how he treats lxc with all the love and cares in the world.

(Sorta inspired by the earlier ask you got--hope you don't mind another!)
How do you decide how to draw modern versions of the Untamed characters? They're so good. I especially love that Xichen's still got extremely long hair and Huaisang's wardrobe choices. (And, like, all of them, that's just two details that stand out).
ah gosh! hmmm, honestly the short and not especially exciting answer is that I mostly go off The Vibes? I suppose I try to translate each character's personality into a modern setting and then work from that basis to decide what they'd do with their clothes and hair.
for example - Meng Yao/JGY is very concerned about looking presentable and appearing professional, so most of the time he will be wearing smart casual clothes, and when he gets money he wears exclusively tailored stuff. he feels very anxious about looking anything less than his best in public, and he'll only slob about in less flattering clothes or loungwear when he's at home with just his boys. WWX, on the other hand, has a very strong individualistic personality and a rebellious streak, so he doesn't care much about what other people think about what he wears so long as it fits his aesthetic and makes him look hot!
as I said, canon has really helpfully colour-coded everyone, and I've tried to stick to that in the modern AU as much as I can, and then with things like haircuts... honestly, a lot of it is trying things out and deciding whether they still look like themselves - Xichen has long hair partly because I love it, partly because he just doesn't feel recognisable without it 😆 and you may have noticed there was a vERY brief time early on where NMJ didn't have a moustache, before I decided he just didn't look right. the actors' looks themselves also have had a fair bit of influence over my designs (ZZJ with his cutie side fringe and yellow pattern button-up with tight black skinny jeans is basically my JGY template now, and Ji Li has been a godsend for reference wearing his shoulder length hair up on a lil ponytail 🙌), as well as the Sims, which has helped me build up little wardrobes for all my faves!
credit is also due to @ellethinthewoods, who, when I first started on my modern AU and expressed concern about my lack of fashion knowledge, put together fashion aesthetic pinterest boards for me for each clan, and gave me a really good starting point and lots of inspiration!

LWJ in his grief summons WWX in our modern world, and the rest is up to you :) Maybe get WWX some therapy and loving family and how different modern days people are
This one is a bit angsty and has vague descriptions of sex. Modern AU.
“The Tragedy of Wei Wuxian - The Man Behind the Legend”
Lan Wangji caresses the title of the book with a thumb, eyes tracing a name he has always held close to heart but hasn’t heard for a long time.
“We all know of Wei Ying, courtesy Wuxian as Yiling Laozu. He’s one of the first to cultivate successfully with ‘resentful’ energy. His theories and papers helped us develop a greater understanding of yin energy, Qi deviation, and resentful spirits. He was a visionary, a man ahead of his time, someone who thought outside the box and looked for solutions instead of sticking to the norm. He’s also the first known person to donate his Golden Core.”
Wangji looks away for a moment, remembering Wen Ning’s snarling face and Jiang Wanyin’s rage, denial, and guilt.
“But we don’t talk about what brought that great visionary down. Society, as it did with many great thinkers, turned against him. In his youth, Wei Wuxian was one of the most accomplished cultivators of his generation. No one knows exactly what happened for him to develop the so-called ‘Ghostly Path’. His loss of the Golden Core may have been a factor, but the actual circumstances are shrouded in mystery.
What follows after the War of the Five Great Clans, known as the Sunshot Campaign, is nothing short of a tragedy. Wei Wuxian saw injustice happening and decided to fight against it. Society tore him up for it. At that time, all actions against him were justified and considered righteous. Those actions don’t stand up to scrutiny under the modern lens. Like all great and radical thinkers, Wei Wuxian ideals made him the enemy and that led to this tragic death, along with the murder of innocent war prisoners he sought to protect. There are unconfirmed reports of there being a child among the Wens.”
Wangji’s eyes flicker over to a picture frame sitting on his desk, an image of Sizhui and Jingyi smiling up at him through the glossy image. They’re well, he knows. Last he heard from them, they were in South Korea and having a great time.
Sizhui must not know of this book or he would’ve called immediately, always so concerned about his a’die.
“It was later revealed that hunger for power and political maneuvering led to his death. When we study the historical records, it is obvious that the man was pushed into the corner and was forced to retaliate. Unfortunately, no one cared about his fate-”
“I did,” Wangji whispered to himself, thinking back on silver eyes in an indistinct face. He loved - still loves Wei Ying - but the physical aspects of him have long since faded from his memory. He sometimes remembers Wei Ying’s laugh. Sometimes, he dreams of his smile. He doesn’t recall what Wei Ying sounded like, only remembering his tone when he said ‘Lan Zhan.’
And yet, Lan Wangji hasn’t forgotten love.
He reads the book in silence, going through all 375 pages of it without pausing to eat or sleep. It tells the story of Wei Ying in stark, blunt terms. There are a few facts missing or erroneous. He wasn’t the adopted child of the Jiangs. There was certainly no unrequited love between Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli.
There’s very little mention of him. According to this book, Lan Wangji is a mere footnote in Wei Wuxian’s life; a childhood acquaintance, a disapproving comrade, and later a man who unraveled the truth because he pursued justice.
“He was just 23 years old when he died,” Wangji lingers over that statement, “23-year-olds are barely adults. They hold the promise of a bright future. They have so much potential inside of them. At 23, some people graduate from college, some take up their first serious job. At 23, young people fall in love and maybe form a life-long bond. Wei Wuxian became a key player in a big conflict at 17, he donated his core at 17. At 17, we still have children in high school. Our seventeen-year-olds aren’t even allowed to drink or drive. Our seventeen-year-olds are still protected and sheltered by their parents.
That is perhaps the biggest tragedy of Wei Wuxian’s life. He was only allowed to live a carefree life for seven years, from the day he was taken off the streets to the day the YunmengJiang Sect was attacked. After that and until his death, his life was marked by war, strife, betrayal, and persecution.
A visionary, a hero, a brilliant mind, dead by what most would consider suicide.” Wangji’s breath hitches and he takes a moment to collect himself, the sentence ringing in his head.
“He deserved better.”
---
He deserved better, Wangji thinks as he walks sedately towards his library.
There had been a glimmer of hope, all those years ago when Mo Xuanyu attempted to resurrect Wei Ying, but when he failed to do so, Wangji felt something shatter in him.
Whatever Wei Ying had done had completely destroyed his soul. His precious, noble soul. One that was formed for justice and kindness.
He deserved better.
He knows what he must do.
---
An immortal’s Golden Core has immeasurable power. It is the result of several hundred years of Cultivation and diligence. Wangji is more powerful than most, having survived through war, strife, grief, and loss.
An immortal’s Golden Core can also be an ingredient.
‘Draw the talismans shown below in the blood of your heart. Pin them in eight directions, north, northwest, west, southwest, south, southeast, east, and northeast. Sit in the exact center of this circle and sacrifice half of your cultivation to the being you wish to summon.’’
Wangji’s heart and hands are steady as he draws the talismans from blood drawn directly from the artery. He pins them in all eight directions and sits down in the middle, his hands moving elegantly to summon his Qi. He breathes in and breathes out, sinking into meditation with habitual ease.
It will work.
It has to.
The room floods with Resentful Energy.
---
He deserves better.
Wangji feels torn apart in ways he has never experienced before. The ritual summoning carves something out of his chest and drags it away. His mouth floods with blood and his body weakens alarmingly.
But it doesn’t matter.
Wei Ying.
---
Wei Ying is more beautiful than Wangji remembers. He is bloodsoaked, covered in cuts and bruises, saturated with Resentful Energy, but he’s alive.
And he’s beautiful.
Wangji stumbles to his feet, shakily walking into the bathroom to fetch some warm water. He walks back, his arms feeling the weight of the bucket like they have never carried such weight before. With every step that he takes towards Wei Ying, his heartbeat spikes up a little. He doesn’t know if he chose the right time. He doesn’t know if Wei Ying’s spirit had shattered before his death and dying had just been the aftermath.
Maybe Wei Ying’s body is here and not his soul.
Wangji cannot bear thinking about it.
With weak, shaking hands and the taste of blood lingering in his mouth, he slowly reaches forward. Layer by layer, he removes Wei Ying’s clothes, his fingertips tingling because his beloved’s body is warm.
He deserves better.
With aching tenderness, he wipes Wei Ying clean, removes all blood, grime, and mud from his body.
Wei Ying doesn’t stir.
---
There’s a gentle touch against his cheek. It is strange enough to wake him up because few people dare touch Lan Wangji. Slender fingers tap once, twice, almost playfully and Wangji knows who it is even before he opens his eyes.
Like a sun emerging from the horizon, Wei Ying appears before him, his smile bright and questioning.
“Wei Ying,” He breathes and Wei Ying nods, eyes a sparkling silver. There is so much beauty in that face that he can’t help but reach forward. Ignoring Wei Ying’s surprise, he cups his face and leans forward pressing his forehead against his beloved’s.
Wei Ying is still for a long moment, but he moves eventually, setting hands on Wangji’s shoulder. He doesn’t push him away, just huffing in soft amusement.
“Wei Ying,” He whispers, closing his stinging eyes, “Forgive Wangji for his selfishness.” He says, “I summoned you.” I summoned you without asking, knowing you wouldn’t desire it.
Wei Ying huffs again and that’s when it strikes him.
He pulls back and looks at his beloved in concern, scanning his eyes, face, neck, and chest quickly, his heart racing.
Why wasn’t Wei Ying speaking?
---
“You’re right in suspecting that his spirit sustained some sort of injury even before he was… killed.” Lan Jingyi says softly, pulling away from the sleeping Wei Ying, “There’s nothing physically wrong with him, Hanguang-jun, please don’t worry! His spirit just needs a little bit of time to recover.”
Wangji nods gratefully as he watches Sizhui lean over Wei Ying, his expression full of wonder and desperate happiness. As Sizhui’s cultivation grew, he started remembering more things from his childhood. They have never spoken on the matter of Wei Ying, but Wangji knows his son remembers more than he did when he was a child.
“Now, please let me check you.”
He levels a sharp look at the younger man but Lan Jingyi is no longer the adoring and naive student Wangji taught all those years ago. He’s a strong, accomplished cultivator and an avid researcher.
Lan Jingyi ignores him cheerfully and checks his core, stepping into Wangji's personal space without a care.
He narrows his eyes at the steely glint in the boy's eyes.
"I know you love him, Hanguang-jun," Lan Jingyi says, "And love is worth a life." They're immortals, life has little meaning for people who have lived for centuries, "But I wonder if the Wei Wuxian that you so adore will be happy about you risking your life for him."
Wangji's eyes flicker towards Wei Ying, who looks exhausted even in his sleep. "He deserved better."
Lan Jingyi is silent for a moment before he speaks, "Sizhui and I read the book on our flight back. Everything was horrible, I'm not surprised that his spirit sustained so much damage. But it is almost entirely intact now. It shows how much he wants to live, Hanguang-jun."
It's a relief.
---
Wei Ying can't speak but his presence is still loud. He rests for a few weeks to recover from his injuries. During that time, Wangji spends most of his days moving from Wei Ying's bedside to the library and back again.
His beloved has an insatiable hunger for knowledge. He wants to know everything about the modern world.
Every morning, Wangji is confronted with a bright face with sparkling eyes waving a book or a scroll in his direction.
Wangji hasn't experienced such liveliness in centuries. The very air of his home glows with Wei Ying's vitality. Wei Ying's body recovers quickly and soon the man is out of bed and following Wangji around.
His heart feels too big for his chest.
By all appearances, Wei Ying is perfectly content. He walks around Cloud Recesses, visits Caiyi Town, and is happy to watch the sunset with Wangji every evening.
That had been Wangji's wish when he performed that summoning.
He wanted Wei Ying to have another chance to live free and happy.
Looking at him now, Wangji wants to reach out, cup that cheerful face, and pepper kisses all over it. He wants to kiss those fluttering eyelids, smooth cheeks, sharp jawline-
That soft, smiling mouth.
Wangji is an immortal. He has endless patience. He can wait for Wei Ying to come to him.
He must wait.
---
The modern world fascinates Wei Ying. His beloved looks at everything from tall buildings to food stalls with wide, stunned eyes. Cloud Recesses and Caiyi Town are still relatively untouched by the passage of time, but Wei Ying has free access to the internet and has learned how to use it within two months of his arrival.
Wangji doesn't restrain him.
He just watches as Wei Ying, his brilliant and enthusiastic love, learns to thrive in his new world.
His voice has still not returned but that doesn't seem to bother Wei Ying. He is delighted to learn that there's a way to communicate nonetheless.
He starts learning sign language and Lan Wangji, with patient and steady hands, practices with him.
---
Lan Sizhui follows Wei Ying around with quiet affection and aching tenderness. He's much older than Wei Ying now, but he remains their son in spirit. He treats Wei Ying like a senior, with respect and adoration.
His Wei Ying notices, of course. At first, he finds the situation quite strange but Wei Ying isn't stupid.
'Lan Zhan,' He asks, 'Who is Sizhui?'
Wangji brings his fingers up and replies, 'He's your a-Yuan. I went looking for you but found him instead.'
Wei Ying's eyes widen and he spins around, running out of the room to seek Sizhui.
Wangji follows sedately and when he finds his love and his son, they're embracing while crying tears of joy.
---
'Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan!'
Wangji huffs under his breath and carefully sets his brush down, tucking the scroll away before turning to meet bright silver eyes.
Wei Ying leans forward with an eager expression, 'Do you know where Suibian is?'
Wangji nods, 'In storage. I was able to retrieve it from the Jin Clan.'
'Can I have it?'
Wangji rises smoothly to his feet and leads Wei Ying to storage where both Suibian and Chenqing.
Wei Ying only glances at Chenqing for a moment before reaching for Suibian with a desperate expression.
Suibian, a blade that has remained sealed since Jiang Wanyin unsheathed it once, easily reveals itself again.
Wei Ying spins around eagerly and looks at him with pleading eyes.
As Wangji is able to deny Wei Ying nothing, he reaches for Bichen and they immediately head for the training grounds.
It has been a long time since Wangji has really used Bichen to its full capacity. With half of his core pulsing within Wei Ying, they're almost evenly matched.
Wangji has not fought in ages but Wei Ying is still a Cultivator. The spar is fast-paced and thrilling. Wangji acquaints himself with Wei Ying as his love becomes reacquainted with his sword.
Wei Wuxian had been one of the best swordsmen of his generation. He has lost none of his elegance and skill. Wangji presses him and Wei Ying laughs soundlessly, twirling around him in white GusuLan robes, bright and joyful.
He breaks Wangji's heart and mends it at the same time.
---
Wangji has missed Wei Ying for hundreds of years.
He can't resist the urge to touch. He keeps it chaste and respectful but his hands have a mind of their own in Wei Ying's vicinity.
When they're out and about, Wangji guides Wei Ying with a hand on his back. It becomes natural to grasp his love's elbow if he wants Wei Ying's attention.
His touches can easily be dismissed as gestures of friendship by most. But Wei Ying knows him.
'er-gege,' Wei Ying's smile is sweet, 'Wei Ying is cold.'
Wangji's eyes flicker over to the lit fire briefly before landing on his love, 'Are you feeling well?' He asks in concern, reaching forward to place the back of his hand on Wei Ying's forehead.
His beloved laughs and nods, leaning into the touch with a sly smile, 'I'm well, just cold.'
Wangji feels a stir in his chest at the intent look in Wei Ying's eyes. Hesitantly, he cups Wei Ying's cheek in silent question.
Wei Ying nuzzles his palm, his eyelids fluttering close gently.
Desperation and elation flood him and Wangji sucks in a sharp breath. He moves in a blur, lifting Wei Ying off his seat and placing him on his lap.
Wei Ying gasps and giggles, his tall, strong body seeming to almost shrink as he cuddles close. Wangji wraps both arms around his love and squeezes him tight, rocking them gently as he is assaulted with painful love.
"Wei Ying, Wei Ying, Wei Ying," He chants in Wei Ying's hair, holding him so close, it feels like there's no part of him not touching his love.
When Wei Ying turns to him with a smile in his eyes, Wangji doesn't hesitate to lean forward, bringing their lips together in a long-awaited kiss.
He presses Wei Ying back against the crook of his elbow and tastes his silent laugh on his tongue.
Wangji has never felt so blissful and complete.
---
Jingyi convinces Wei Ying to go to therapy.
Eager to learn and curious, Wei Ying agrees.
He returns from every session with a thoughtful expression.
Months pass but his voice is still lost.
---
They make love and Wei Ying mouths the words he wants to speak. He smiles, sobs, laughs, and pouts as Wangji takes him apart bit by bit.
Wangji has never known such pleasure. He loses himself, drowning in Wei Ying's scent and finding heaven in his body.
He enjoys feeling smooth skin. He sinks his fingers into Wei Ying's silken hair. He tastes the sharp edge of his jaw. He bites. He drives in and takes ownership of Wei Ying's pleasure.
He presses his mischievous sprite into their bed and doesn't hold back, centuries of love pouring out of him.
---
A combination of therapy and Wei Ying's natural approach to life makes his recovery quick. Within a year, he's well-adjusted and happy.
He laughs at almost everything. The first time they fly, the first time they visit an amusement park, the first time they go to an aquarium.
He laughs and Wangji starts noticing the color of his voice returning to it.
Wangji is grateful for what he has. He's grateful that Wei Ying is back, safe, and happy. He is grateful that Wei Ying is unharmed.
But he cannot lie to himself. He misses Wei Ying's voice.
---
"Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan, Lan Zhan,"
Wangji almost misses it, as engrossed as he is. He presses in deep and feels a shiver of pleasure race down his spine. Wei Ying's fingers curl around Wangji's nape and his lips caress his ear.
"Lan Zhan,"
He stills.
Wangji takes a deep, bracing breath and pulls back a little, balancing on his arms to peer down at his lover.
Wei Ying is a vision. His cheeks flushed, his eyes wide and dark with passion, his lips bitten red from Wangji's kisses. His long hair is scattered and wild, a tangle of glossy strands across Wangji's pillow.
"Lan Zhan,"
Wei Ying's lips move and a voice accompanies that movement. It is slightly hoarse, somewhat weak, but it is still the voice he barely remembers.
Heat flares in him and he sinks deeper, pulling a sharp gasp from Wei Ying.
He spends the entire night filling their room with that precious voice.
---
Wei Ying doesn't ask questions. He doesn't ask why Wangji did what he did. He doesn't ask how he did it. His beloved has always been perspective and he understood Wangji's desperation from the moment he woke.
He reads the book that triggered it all and laughs, "Aiya, they make me out to be some sort of martyr for justice." He says fondly, for he is very fond of the modern world.
Sizhui is sitting at his feet, eyes closed in bliss as Wei Ying gently combs his hair, styling it into an intricate braid.
"They're not wrong, though." Jingyi can never sit straight and he has forgotten all of his Lan teachings over the years. He has his legs thrown over the arm of his chair and his head is dangling over another arm, his hair sweeping the floor as he nods.
Ridiculous.
"I never asked to be glorified in such a way." Wei Ying protests with a chuckle.
"Baba should be grateful no one knows about his resurrection." Sizhui pipes up, "At least, you don't have to deal with modern stans."
Wangji arches a brow at the word and Wei Ying laughs, already more accustomed to the Internet language than Wangji is. "Oh, heaven forbid!"
"But listen, you and Hanguang-jun have the greatest love story ever, you could write a book about it, Wei-quanbei!"
Wei Ying tilts his head to the side and Wangji urges him to consider it with a subtle nod. Wei Ying is happy but he's never content to be idle. The modern world doesn't need cultivation, but perhaps it can benefit from their stories.
---
‘Once you summon successfully, you belong to this being for all eternity as payment for the one wish they may grant. Half of your core will live within them. If they die, you die. If they live, you live. If they hurt, you hurt. If they become corrupt, you become corrupt.
You will sacrifice immortality, but not the eternal bond. Every time you are reincarnated into this world, you will be tethered to the being.
Beware.
Wangji tucks the scroll away, sealing it so that it is never discovered again.
He has no regrets.

Restless Rewatch: The Untamed, Episode 25, part one
(Masterpost) (Other Canary Stuff)
Warning: Spoilers for All 50 Episodes!
Tumblr media
Holy crap, Episode 25! We’re halfway through! *Cue Bon Jovi*
Hunt Invitation
After taking a nice long break to watch Word of Honor pick lotus pods, Wei Wuxian and Jiang Yanli return to stressing over the shitshow that is the post-Sunshot cultivation world. Jin Zixuan has come to invite them to the Phoenix Mountain Hunt, with a special invitation from his mother to Jiang Yanli. Jiang Cheng reacts to this in a mature and reasonable manner, while Wei Wuxian...doesn't.
Tumblr media
On the surface, Jiang Cheng has matured in recent months; much more than Wei Wuxian, with his secret burdens, has. But it's only on the surface, as we'll see later in the episode, when Jiang Cheng's insecurity will take the reins.
Tumblr media
Jin Zixuan is adorably pleased by Jiang Yanli's acceptance of the invitation. Wei Wuxian is less pleased, but sort of tries to suck it up.
Tumblr media
Jin Zixuan kind of undercuts the romance of his errand by asking Wei Wuxian for the Yin tiger amulet as soon as Jiang Yanli is out of earshot.
Tumblr media
As always, Jin Zixuan makes an impression by being the best Jin currently in existence, but the Jins are terrible. JZX is working to advance his dad's ambitions, and as such he is currently Wei Wuxian's enemy.
(more after the cut)
Tumblr media
Opening Ceremonies
There's a bunch of cultivators arranged for the opening ceremony. Later someone will say that this is more than 5 thousand people. Ok, sure.
Tumblr media
As I've said before, it's best to think of it like a theatre production and assume the other 4,900 people are offstage or, you know, painted on the backdrop.
The young lead cultivators from the four main clans are standing together. Nie Huaisang is trying out some new body armor.
Tumblr media
The clan leaders are seated up on the stage, along with Jin Furen and Jiang Yanli. Unfortunately Jin Furen doesn't seem to have a personal name that I can discover. Her title Fūrén ( 夫人)  means she's the primary wife of the head of the family, according to this excellent meta.
Tumblr media
So “Madame Jin” is a decent translation...if you're French?  I feel like instead of English subtitles including borrowed words from French (”Marquis” in NIH), Greek (”Water of Lethe” in WOH), and other European languages, we could try borrowing Chinese words instead. Jin Zixuan's mom is titled, not named, Jin Furen. Since we don’t know her actual name, I'll call her that and abbreviate it JFR.
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian's childishness continues at the opening of the hunt, as does Jiang Yanli's encouragement of his childishness. I know she's had a rough couple of years, and it's understandable to want to baby her little brother out of a sense of nostalgia. But it's not good for him, and she shouldn't do it; she should encourage him to be more mature, just as she does with Jiang Cheng.
War Crimes Contest
Jin Guangyao says they're going to have an archery competition, and they're going to liven it up by endangering some prisoners. These prisoners are Wens in Wen cultivator uniforms, meaning they're not the noncombatants that were being hunted down earlier. But they’re still helpless people in chains.
Tumblr media
There are three different reactions when the Wen prisoners are brought out.  All the Jins are pleased, or neutral. All of the Jiangs, including Wei Wuxian, are upset.
Tumblr media
The Nies and the Lans, what we see of them, are a little shocked, but not obviously upset. Based on those reactions, it seems like this is a maneuver that in-world is considered shocking and cruel, but not necessarily unethical or immoral.  Shocking, cruel displays of power are pretty normal in this world; remember when Wen Chao lit a Lan cultivator on fire just to say hello, and nobody complained?
This whole scenario, of course, has been designed to provoke Wei Wuxian. One major goal of this event, and the whole reason for wanting Wei Wuxian to come,  is to get the Yin Tiger amulet.  Making him lose his shit in front of 100 5000 cultivators is a good step toward compelling him to hand the amulet over.
Tumblr media
We see Jiang Cheng and Jiang Yanli both signaling Wei Wuxian to keep it together, and he takes a step back and tries to chill.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Jin Zixuan seems annoyed by all this, and goes to take a shot at it, making it clear from his demeanor that this is easy and JGY is making a show of nothing.
Tumblr media
He hovers in the air and makes a perfect shot, pleasing most of the crowd and impressing Jiang Yanli.
Tumblr media
Then his cousin Jin Zixun taunts the crowd, challenging anyone to do better.  This presents a bit of a problem for Wei Wuxian. For the sake of the Wen prisoners, Wei Wuxian should just take this taunting and let the contest end, if no-one else is willing to take a shot. But for the sake of the Jiang Clan’s status, and his continued control of the Yin Tiger amulet, he needs to put the Jins in their place.
Tumblr media
Every Day is Blindfold Day
This moral dilemma is resolved with an abrupt tonal shift, where the humanitarian concerns of all parties seem to vanish. Wei Wuxian flirts embarrassingly with Lan Wangji and then goes as far over the top in besting Jin Zixuan as it's possible to go.
The flirting hits differently, incidentally, when you edit Jiang Cheng's annoyed reaction out of it:
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji doesn't seem embarrassed by Wei Wuxian's request, despite it happening in front of 100 5000 of their fellow cultivators. He looks Wei Wuxian straight in the eye for longer than necessary before turning away; it’s not exactly stern disapproval. We’ll get very used to this look, in Wei Wuxian’s second life.
Fortunately, Wei Wuxian carries a blindfold with him wherever he goes, (gifset here), and he is such a good cultivator he can hit 5 parallel targets simultaneously without even holding his bow straight or tightening the string.
Tumblr media
(OP fixed the angle of the bow for this gif, which is why everyone is standing on a hill in the background).
Everyone is pleased by this shot except Jins Guangyao and Zixun; even the Jin cultivators are clapping, and Madame Jin is presumably this happy any time Jin Guangyao’s plans go wrong.
Tumblr media
With that they start the hunt. Jin Zixun challenges Wei Wuxian to do the whole hunt blindfolded. Wei Wuxian agrees, but the censorship committee said no, apparently, so we don’t get to see that.
Flute Hunting
We do get to see Wei Wuxian luring monsters into his nets by being too sexy for his robe, too sexy for his robe, and playing the flute.
Tumblr media
We also get to see Jiang cultivators looking puzzled while random monster roars happen in the woods around them. We do not get to see any monsters, which is probably just as well.
Tumblr media
Jiang Cheng is annoyed and concerned, muttering "I told you not to overdo it" which means he didn't, you know, tell Wei Wuxian NOT to do this, just not to do it quite so well. Jiang Cheng knows what Wei Wuxian’s abilities are and he is making use of him, as he should, but he doesn’t have the courage of his convictions.
Tree Confession
Wei Wuxian sees Lan Wangji and starts to say hi, but then he has a desaturated flashback to Lan Xichen telling him to back off, so he stops himself.  But then Lan Wangji comes over to talk to him.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji starts off talking to him about his latest anti-resentment musical discoveries, and Wei Wuxian pushes back, even calling him Lan Wangji, but gently.  Wei Wuxian asks "who am I to you?" and Lan Wangji turns the question right back at him, then waits a looooooong time, eyes downcast, while Wei Wuxian thinks of a serious answer.
Wei Wuxian says "I used to treat you as my zhījǐ" --which, as we’ve discussed before, is variously translated soulmate, confidant, intimate friend--with a strong meaning of "the person who truly knows me." Lan Wangji says "I still am." Coming from Lan Wangji, who NEVER says how he feels about Wei Wuxian or about anything, really, this sounds a lot like a confession of love.
Tumblr media
It definitely takes the form, visually, of a love confession, as Lan Wangji speaks, then gazes at Wei Wuxian while he waits for a reply.  Wei Wuxian's reply is this:
Tumblr media
I don't think Wei Wuxian is oblivious (I'm speaking strictly of CQL, not MZDS, as always with these posts; they are different works). I think he loves Lan Wangji back, and knows it. But Chenqing and everything it represents are between them.
Tumblr media
Lan Wangji is quite literally NOT his zhījǐ any more, because he doesn't truly know Wei Wuxian right now. He loves him desperately, but he doesn't know about his core, and hasn't accepted his cultivation method.  So Wei Wuxian answers his confession by showing him Chenqing, effectively declining to accept his still-conditional love.
Snake Measuring
Next we get terrible hetero courtship in the form of Jin Zixuan finding snake discharge on the ground and talking to Jiang Yanli about comparative snake measuring. Seriously: that is the actual conversation that they are having.
Tumblr media
Jin Zixuan boasts for a bit, and then awkwardly tries to ask Jiang Yanli on a date. When she turns him down he gets mad, because he's a typical heterosexual dude even though he's secretly a delightful person...very, very secretly. Jiang Yanli, for her part, can't string a fucking sentence together to save her life whenever he's around, so she's not helping their mutual understanding.
Lan Wangji attempts to hold Wei Wuxian back from beating Jin Zixuan’s ass yet again, but eventually JYL wants to leave, JZX tells her to wait, and WWX intervenes. Why doesn't Jiang Yanli have a maid or Jiang cultivator with her while she's on a date, incidentally? These kids are confused about whether they're doing feudal patriarchy or whether they're doing modern social life.
Jin vs. Jiang
Tumblr media
Wei Wuxian jumps in between Jiang Yanli and Jin Zixuan, which JZX objects to. Jin Zixuan has no fucking business objecting and Wei Wuxian is 100% right, at this point. As soon as WWX shows up JZX should hand her off to her Shidi, bow, and leave her the fuck alone. Instead, he draws his sword on Wei Wuxian, and kind of on Jiang Yanli since she's right behind Wei Wuxian.  Fortunately, Lan Wangji blocks him.
Tumblr media
This instantly blows up into a Jiang-Jin Clan conflict, with Jiang Cheng unfortunately absent since he let his unmarried sister go off in the woods alone with the son of the Cultivaton world's most famous lecher. It looks like it’s a personal conflict, but since Jin Zixuan already told Wei Wuxian directly that Jin Guangshan wants his amulet, any arguments between them are part of a larger power struggle.
Cousin Jin Zixun comes running up to start shit. Wei Wuxian pretends--I am SURE he's pretending--not to know who he is. The dude hassles Wei Wuxian every time he sees him; Wei Wuxian is a troll, and right now CJXZ is butting in to something that doesn't concern him. Rather than argue, Wei Wuxian insults him by telling him he’s not memorable.
Tumblr media
Jin Furen shows up with several maids and cultivator dudes in tow, which is the proper way for a highborn woman to wander around in the woods. She also brings Clan Leader Yao, because if it's Wei Wuxian Blaming Hours, Yao is going to be there.
I initially found the deep friendship between superhot Yi Zuyuan and dumpy Jin Furen implausible, but then I remembered that my lifelong bestie is a smokin' hot redhead with impeccable fashion sense, while I am a roly-poly nerd.  Friends don’t always match. Also, Jin Furen's actress, Hu Xiaoting, looks like this:
Tumblr media
...so she is actually hot in real life. Not as hot as Zhang Jingtong (who plays Yu Ziyuan) but literally nobody is as hot as Zhang Jingtong. Don't @ me, you know I'm right.
This is a heck of a long scene, so we’ll pick it up in part two!
Soundtrack: Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi
Writing prompt: Newly-divorced, cold-hearted CEO Yu Ziyuan buys an apartment next door to newly-divorced, warm-hearted pastry chef ...uhh let's call her Jin Dàngāo (蛋糕), sure. She can name her business after herself.
Tumblr media
They discover their daughter & son are in the same college class, and so they meet up over coffee....several times...trying to matchmake their hopeless, hapless kids, while bonding over their own terrible (former) taste in husbands. Who will Cupid strike first, the kids or the moms?

Villainous Quartet (Jin Guangyao, Xue Yang, Su Minshan, Mo Xuanyu) + tiny bit of Chengyao : Part 2
I suck at writing villains so take my dumb Modern AU headcanons:
There's a pole dance room for four in their house because JGY does pole dancing in order to stay in shape, and teaches the other three how to pole dance. XY uses what he's taught at the strip clubs and MXY uses it when he's creating gay porn 3d videos online. SMS does it at the regular gym that has a fireman pole. It's meant for decor, but the staff allows him to use it. He gained popularity, which led to a fitness pole room to be built.
JGY and SMS practice Han Buddhism, so there's an alter, scriptures, statues and more in the house. XY and MXY don't believe in religion.
The company JGY works at is an up and coming marketing company with no relation to the big families: Jins, Wens (run by Wen qing now), Jiang, Nies or Lans. The CEO plans on handing him the company after retirement in a few years.
Since this is modern au where nepotism and filial piety isn't as concrete and social media exist with therapy available, JGY isn't big on gaining his father's attention. He remains and prefers to be estranged from his father, and refuses to take on any Jin project since he's all too aware of their shady business through MXY.
JGY is the oldest of the four. SMS is the second by a few months. XY the third by a year, and MXY is the youngest by three years.
XY and JGY are childhood friends and neighbors who grew up in the slums. JGY was able to get into a wealthy private academy through his grades (since public school is a thing) while XY dropped out of middle school and worked odd jobs.
XY became an orphan when he was 8 because of police brutality. He was taken in by JGY's mother when JGY asked her to. Sisi is around to help pay the bills and is the one to keep XY on the straight and narrow to attend beauty school like her once he was of age.
Meng Shi is alive since medicine has improved, and JGY was able to work off her debt once he entered the work force.
Meng Shi does want JGY to be recognized by his father, but she doesn't force it, especially when JGY tried to talk her out of it. She currently works with Sisi at their beauty salon.
JGY met SMS at the private academy in the same grade, and the two became close friends after being paired up for gym.
MXY is from an upper class family, but like in ancient times, is treated poorly by the main family for being the grandson of an affair between the master and servant.
He meets JGY and SMS at the same private academy. SMS came to his rescue when he was being bullied, which he's done for any other kid in the school as if he was a hall monitor. This one was different since JGY and him were brothers, so MXY clung onto them to keep the bullies away.
XY would tease MXY when they were younger, but MXY didn't mind since XY's own was harmless compared to the hostility he faces from the main family and classmates.
Unlike JGY with Meng Shi, MXY is actually not close to his mother at all like many kids with mothers who were more concerned with image than actual happiness. He still sends her money and gifts weekly, but doesn't see her in person unless she requests for him to make a public appearance. He forces himself to for the sake of her health since she would become hospitalize if he doesn't try to see his father when possible. His mother would gloat about her son's freelance work for important companies, which is worth speaking of since despite being a shut in, MXY's tech work is no joke.
If MXY didn't meet with JGY, he would've worked for his father after obtaining a degree in computer science because his mother told him so. But since he did, he avoids his father, cuts off all connections with the main family, and is living a happy life with his new family.
Since all three have jobs except for SMS, they split their spending this way: JGY's money goes into mortgages, daily necessities like food, and bills because of his job is stable, which is why he is the declared breadwinner. MXY's money goes into buying new tools or appliances, especially the newest versions, and any possible home repairs. XY's money goes into home decor and vacation trips since he's always the one to decide where they go. SMS is the one to directly handle all finances since he's the househusband.
XY makes them go to Anime con in cosplay EVERY YEAR. It doesn't matter what is happening in any of their lives. THEY HAVE TO GO. So JGY always makes sure to always mark that week free and get all his work done. MXY books the business class plane tickets with the first class hotel rooms. SMS prepares the luggage so that absolutely nothing is forgotten. XY is the one in charge of preparing their costumes, and they wear different cosplay outfits for all four days to make the most of it.
MXY loves birds and absolutely hates cats. He pretends to be allergic to cats, so as to avoid them. For birds though, he has the backyard of the house become a bird utopia filled with bird baths, feeders, homes, and plenty of bird first aid kits. He also doesn't eat chicken but doesn't mind it if others do. If he does eat chicken by accident, he bows to his bird utopia for forgiveness since he doesn't like wasting food.
For his drawings, MXY would usually look up photo references, but when he is unable to find the correct angle or lighting, he would have the three help him by modeling. And since they don't have any female friends besides JGY's friendship with Yanli, they have fake boobs and vagina underwear. JGY is unfortunately the main victim to wear these things. But MXY has them do it in a secure location, always makes sure to photoshop his face out of it, destroy the original, and then treat him to whatever he's in the mood for.
When JC discovers the vagina underwear, JGY threatens to murder him if he ever speaks of it to anyone else. And JC doesn't think that he's kidding that even when completely drunk out of his mind with Wei Wuxian and his mouth is about to speak of it, he remembers the threat and shuts up immediately.

XiSang Fic Recs
Tumblr media
I haven’t seen any rec lists floating about, so for the XiSang Week 2020 challenge - Day 7 - Free choice, I wanted to create a rec list of my personal favourites for Nie Huaisang/Lan Xichen ship. There’s actually a lot of stories that are great and I don’t want to duplicate the entire ship tag, so these are just the top 10 that I found super enjoyable: 1.  My Heart is a Saber by peskyjellyfish (~11k)
Summary: Huaisang is on his way to Xinglu Ridge when he gets sidetracked. Rec: This is the fic that gave me everything I wanted to read about them post-canon. Nie Huaisang is angry and damaged, Lan Xichen is hurt and curious, and they find the kind of hope in despair that can only be found together. 2.  come and find me (lying in the bed i made) by ImaginationCake  @demonic-cultivar (~22k)
Summary: After Jin Guangyao dies, Nie Huaisang is ready to enjoy his life free from the burden of revenge plots and subterfuge. But his decisions have resulted in a deep guilt that he can't shake, and he struggles to stay afloat with no one left to support him. To top it off, he finds himself tangled up in politics that he really couldn't care less about. What he does care about is Lan Xichen's opinion of him, but Lan Xichen won't even look at him anymore. Nie Huaisang can only hope that his life doesn't get any worse. Rec: The fic that got me into this ship! ♡ I did of course come to AO3 looking for more NHS & LXC content immediately after watching the Untamed. After seeing that ending scene with their conversation on the Temple’s steps I wanted more, but I wasn’t sure it was a romantic ship for me until I read this story. It’s got everything, a kidnapping, a rescue and a bad case of feelings :D 3.  A Skilled Tactician is the Jewel of a Kingdom by Hypatia3 (~50k, WIP) Summary: During the Sunshot Campaign, Nie Huaisang wants to help despite his terrible sword skills. But there are other things he's good at, and nobody can say his mind is weak. But nobody has to know. After all, he wants to go back to his life of general uselessness after the war is over, and Nie Mingjue would never allow it if he saw a single sign of competence from him.But this has consequences that he didn't expect. Rec: One of the absolute best stories in this fandom when it comes to Nie Huaisang’s characterization -- he’s clever and yet so very Huaisang, in such a believable way that *hands* I can’t explain how much satisfaction I get out of reading and rereading this story. Honourable mention:  A Decisive Victory by Hypatia3 (~24k, WIP) Summary: When Jin Guangyao acts against the Nie Sect a little earlier, Nie Huaisang ends up in over his head as acting sect leader. But he has a responsibility and a duty to his sect. His brother is counting on him until he recovers.Or Nie Huaisang loses his temper, starts a war, and impresses a lot of people along the way. Rec: This is not marked XiSang, and is a divergence from the earlier Tactician story (around chapter 7) but it’s such fun to read and Huaisang’s interactions with Lan Xichen are top notch, so I can’t help mentioning it here.
4.  from tomb to tomb by @the-pretzel  (~16k)
Summary: It's a lot easier to get truth out of someone, even one with a very good reason to lie, when they're drunk. Or, five times Nie Huaisang was drunk and once it was Lan Xichen's turn instead. Rec: Written to capture moments over the years during the course of the show, as Lan Xichen and Nie Huaisang dance around each other, this story is absolutely beautiful and vivid. I can still see the scenes of the story pop up in my head like drawings, of Lan Xichen walking in on semi-hungover Nie Huaisang and the sheer tension between them enough to keep you breathlessly reading.
Honourable mention:  when i'm reborn by @the-pretzel (~1.1k)
Summary:  Nie Huaisang's daemon settles the day he finds out what Jin Guangyao has done. (His Dark Materials fusion) Rec: A very short, very lovely daemon AU, which I’m definitely reading as XiSang :)
5.  What I had to do by @ibijau (~20k) Summary:  After three years in seclusion, Lan Xichen gets an unexpected guest he would rather have avoided. Yet when he learns that Nie Huaisang is dying from a curse, he is forced to confront his guilt toward Jin Guangyao's fate and the people his sworn brother hurt. Rec: I’d say this is a fandom classic, so you’ve probably read it already :D But, one of my favourite things about this story is the way it captures Nie Huaisang running away from emotions, and Lan Xichen being selfless when it comes to those he cares about. 6.  gather jewels from graveyards by LuckyDiceKirby (~15k) Summary: Nie Huaisang stole happiness from Lan Xichen. He stole peace. If he could just see him, and see for himself exactly what he’s done, and know—that will be enough. Then he’ll be able to paint again, and his hands won’t shake as he does it, and he’ll remember why he ever in his life bothered to put brush to ink to paper. After all, a man should have to live with his mistakes. There is no other way to learn from them. His brother believed that. Rec: One of the first stories I read for this ship and so well done! This is one where Nie Huaisang feels very guilty, and who doesn’t enjoy reading that? Nie Huaisang comes to the Hanshi to make amends, and doesn’t go away when Lan Xichen won’t see him.
7.  When the world is cold (I will feel a glow) by @marsdiogenes (~3k)
Summary: Xichen is trying very hard to get his crush to notice him, but gallery curator Nie Huaisang has a job to do and would appreciate it if Lan Xichen's beautiful face would stop for a moment so he can focus. Mingjue just wants to have a nice, quiet family dinner and for everyone to respect his efforts.
Rec: I don’t normally go for Modern AUs for this ship, but this was so fun and sexy! Also Nie Mingjue’s knowing reaction is :3 8.  to embrace doubt by fensandmarshes, Fleetling, idendreams, medievalfantasyqueen, space_enjolras, sxnshot (blasphemyincarnate)
Summary: Five times people thought they understood Nie Huaisang + one time someone admitted they didn’t - a collaborative, semi-chronological character study of Nie Huaisang through other characters’ eyes. Rec: Okay, it’s technically not marked shippy, but you tell me that someone who thinks about Nie Huaisang the way Lan Xichen does in this story, in the chapter that’s from his pov can possibly not love him, and I won’t believe it. The lyrical prose is the best description in a paragraph I’ve ever read of Nie Huaisang.
9.  Love of my life, I hate you by Ibijau (~126k) Summary:  With Qishan Wen growing ever more powerful and menacing, QInghe Nie and Gusu Lan decide to cement a firm alliance between their sects through a marriage between their children. Lan Xichen and Nie Huaisang are less than thrilled to learn this, but nobody is asking for their opinion anyway Rec: At first, I wasn’t sold on Lan Xichen being so thoughtless in his treatment of Nie Huaisang as a child and mostly wanted to smack him, but damn if the later events don’t make up for it, make him grow up, and turn the tables around. :D This story is utterly satisfying to read, like one of those novels that give your Id everything you want, eventually. I love slow burn and this is that in spades! So much fun, I’ve re-read parts of it multiple times already.
Honourable mention: Ibijau has so many interesting XiSang stories, like the one where Jin Rusong survives and Nie Huaisang ends up raising him (Second Chances For First Time Villains), and the one where Lan Wangji and Nie Huaisang, both in love with someone else, make a marriage match and solve crimes together ( We can light a match and burn it down), the god!LXC AU, and many others. Check them out! And finally,
10.  Chapter 95: LXC finds out about JGY and tells NHS,  from MDZS short fics by nirejseki ( @robininthelabyrinth) (~1k) Summary:  In that AU where LXC pretends to be LWJ and discovers NMJ's head, what if he went on a quest to put the body of his old friend together and along the way accidentally ran into NHS who's on the same mission. And they realize the other knows! Rec: Nirejseki writes a lot of great Nie brothers content, and this is one short story that can arguably turn into XiSang in the future. The possibilities of this AU make it so exciting, I had to include it on the list even though NHS and LXC only talk and nothing else happens.  ...Okay, that was more than ten fics here, but can you blame me? 😍 I love these two together. And with the XiSang week running we have so much new stuff!

a list of fics i would like to write, in no particular order, however there are those that i could, technically, realistically write, and those that i know i can’t
sappy as fuck epistolar wangxian, a’la anne of windy poplars; I MANAGED TO GET MY HANDS ON A GOOD BRUSH, SO--
horrible xue yang fic (though, looking at the already existing fics, maybe it’s not as terrible as i initially thought)
we’re entering the “unlikely due to difficulty level” territory
something something certain things go differently, communication skills aren’t that abysmal, jiang cheng ends up marrying wen qing solely to give shelter to her and her people, there’s nothing between them
unless...?
they spend the first week of their married life entirely distanced from each other. it is not because of anything, really, just--being a young sect leader is difficult.
the first moron to suggest he has his wife help him gets WRECKED
the second moron to suggest the same gets a Look. life just isn’t fair for some people
jiang cheng crawls out of his Hole Of Marital Seclusion to find wen qing chilling with jiang yanli. there’s a kid playing with pebbles next to them. what the fuck
wei wuxian is also here. a lot. still with his fucking flute. jiang cheng can’t decide what emotion he feels about this. mostly “the need to shout”
as it turns out, wen qing is... rather capable. clever and well-learned. (of fucking course.) can negotiate well (tested on himself, not on anyone from the outside). and very pretty
jiang cheng has several thoughts about her
he also has thoughts about wen ning
he tries not to. he really, really, really, really tries not to
could wei wuxian please decide on the state wen ning is in?! as soon as possible, preferably?!??
this is when my timelines start to ??? a little. either way there might or might not be a wen ning in a between-state in lotus pier
until he isn’t! in a between-state anymore
there is a fierce corpse LOOSE in LOTUS PIetcetc
not really? he seems fond of the ponds, though
wen qing is so cool. she is so cool and also jiang cheng’s legally wedded wife.
OH GOD WIFE
of course, it’s not because they. yeah. but... wife...
(captain holt voice) WIFE!!!!!
google search i had a crush on a girl and then things went to shit and then i married her so i have a crush on my wife what do??? i do????
W I F E !!!!!!!!
eventually they make out love lmao you wish eye contact for longer than three seconds
jiang cheng has to calm his breathing after that memorable event. wei wuxian is having a lot of fun with that. he is soon about to stop, though
something something jiggy survives guanyin, and
lxc knows jgy should be executed for his crimes, but. he doesn’t want anyone to die. it’s too many dead people for him. can people put dying on hold for a while? can they do that, for him?
jgy knows he should be executed for his crimes. it’s not ideal, but he’s tired. ideal would be fucking off somewhere far away. dying, in a way, is that.
ideal is not lxc smuggling him to cloud recesses and marrying him.
to be frank, literally no one is happy about this. no one.
jiggy exercises Emotional Manipulation^TM and uses what lxc has told him, trusting, about himself, to hurt him. to hurt him into finishing the job, to be precise, but boy, stupid boy, have you not heard? lan xichen has enough of people being dead
conversating. so much conversating.
so many leaving suddenly (in lieu of slamming the door) and forlorn downward gazes
(hisses through teeth) no one is happy
jgy shouting! lxc crying! the drama!
there’s a time when lxc kisses jgy, out of--many reasons, really; out of love, a horrible, painful love; out of grief; because he’s powerless; because he shouldn’t; to shut him up, and even so he is very gentle. meg yao could easily turn his head to the side; his fingers are barely touching meng yao’s cheeks. he could very easily refuse.
but he doesn’t.
instead, when lan xichen takes a breath, he smiles just so and says it is a pity i can’t bear children.
lan xichen performs an act as close to storming off with doors slamming as you can get in cloud recesses, and doesn’t visit him for a month. like, man.
A CASE FIC i love case fics!!! unfortunately you have to be smart to write them :/
we are getting out of the difficult territory now
this is not a fic because i plan to draw it but i can’t stop thinking about stress cook jiang yanli AND anger baker xue yang in modern au
we can ABSOLUTELY eat all that, insists jiang cheng, approximately at the same time wei wuxian shoots a message @ the group chat that uhhh we have some food, come to have some food too if you want?
it is a trap (some in fact means a fuckton and you will not leave before it’s all eaten)
it is a double-sided trap, as it turns out, because:
well, we can’t come empty-handed, lan xichen says. we can’t, lan wangji agrees
nie mingjue decides that they absolutely fucking can’t come empty-handed and together with huaisang they procure a whole fucking AMOUNT of mapo tofu
jin zixuan can’t come empty-handed, not when JIANG YANLI IS THERE, so he also prepares something
meng yao eats approximately as much as a sparrow (not in the “his own weight” sense) so he couldn’t care less; he brings fancy chocolates nonetheless
wen ning is going through a relaxing baking phase...
xiao xingchen looks at song lan. song lan looks at a-qing. a-qing looks at xue yang. xue yang looks at his four pavlovas
everyone is increasingly distressed with each guest, resulting in humble requests to “leave. please leave” when yi city gang arrives
“fuck you. you leave”, xue yang says, and, imagine that, some try

Going off of Jin House: Home of Designer Kids - in the Jiang household, you were lucky if a kid was still wearing pants before they jumped into the lotus pond. Again. Children were well dressed when they had to be, but what's the point of spending the extra money if it's just going to ripped off and tossed into a bush at the first opportunity?
yeah Yanli just don’t really.................. get the designer thing (the Jiang family all do care a lot about their clothes! they just don’t mind what the label is so long as it looks good. Jiang Cheng probably spends the most money on his wardrobe but that’s just because he really likes properly tailored shirts), but they have enough kids that no clothes really go to waste, they can just get passed around, and their whole friendship group sort of starts picking up kids at pretty much the same time so she either passes them on to their friends, or asks JGY for the best place to donate them :)
anonymous said:  modern!JZX has a Moment of Realization when he finds out that JGY (who has been added to the family business once it comes out that he's one of JGS' bastards) has been donating most of his (large) paycheck on stuff like women's shelters, food pantries, resources for poor students etc. This contributes to his re-evaluation of his life choices and also he starts donating to good causes as well.
JZX: oh god we barely contribute to society at all! we’re leeches! leeches! right, okay, we’re- we’re gonna fix that, we’re gonna fix so much - A-Yao, you used to be poor, what do poor people need? cars? another library? I’ve got my chequebook ready, what do the poor people need?
JGY, who regularly has “meetings” with up and coming political candidates, and somehow they always leave those “meetings” considerably more pro-sex workers, and queer kids, and ready to donate to community projects that benefit the poorest areas: ...it’s okay Zixuan-ge, I’ll... [pinching the bridge of his nose] I’ll draw you up a list, hmm?
anonymous said:  JYL makes a Rule in the Jin household that for every dollar JZX spends on fancy brand name products, he has to make an equal donation to a charitable cause. He decides he wants to give himself a fancy-ass car for his birthday and Planned Parenthood gets one of those enormous PR cheques and some breathing room.
JZX: also A-Yao, this is what I’m spending on A-Li’s birthday present this year, and you know the rule...
JGY, who does half of their accounting because he’s a control freak who’s bad at delegating: ...............I’ll contact the mayor and tell him that the city can afford to revamp the tube system this year after all, shall I?
anonymous said:  wwx buys Jin Ling a pair of tiny converses. they're probably knock-offs because baby.
anonymous said:  WWX is just covered in tiny Jin babies in Gucci and he's all :/ I could sell this child's outfit for a month's worth of rent money...
sdslgdkjslk WWX talks a lot of talk about that sort of thing and then he gets a sugar daddy starts dating Wangji...
more modern AU
