I was going to scream about how I can't read fics with antagonistic Dream anymore because his character is just so badly written and once but then I started thinking about an au where Dream is an actual interesting character and I've come up with two Tommy-centric hero aus
Vigilante Tommy gets in a fight with hero Dream while on a patrol, asks about Dream's ring in an attempt to distract him. Dream, who loves his fiances so much and will absolutely take any chance to talk about them is stoked to stop the fight to show off his minecraft themed engagement ring and tell Tommy (and Tubbo, who demands to be put on speaker so he can ask Dream about where he got the ring) all about his soon to be husbands (The bench trio ends up getting invited to Dream's wedding, Tommy very proudly being the flower boy) (Featuring: Queer platonic bench trio and Tommy being a menace on the internet)
And a second, much angstier au
Standard vigilante Tommy villain sbi found family, heroes Sapnap and George being the main antagonists. They target the syndicate and anyone related to them in any way, fighting them in a harsh and brutal way that makes it clear they're "shooting" to kill. The two of them used to be in a trio with the hero DayDream, being know as a trio that was actually pretty good at descalation and taking down villains without too much damage to the villain or the space they're fighting in. That is, until DayDream suddenly stopped appearing publicly almost a month ago, George's and Sapnap's behavior changing completely since then. The reason why is a mystery to Tommy until later, when he meets Dream and discovers that the reason George and Sapnap are like this now is because Dream got badly injured when he intercepted a test biologic bomb Villain!Wilbur had thrown at a group of civilians on an attack almost a month ago, and he has been getting sicker and sicker since then, with their only hope of restoring his health being figuring out what the fuck was on that bomb. But even still, he might never recover.

♡ Dating Thomas Hewitt Headcanons
Tumblr media
❝ I often ask myself, 'What makes a man a killer?' ❝
[ SFW + No Gendered Terms]
General Warnings: Mentions of Murder, Slight Stockholm Syndrome, Hoyt being Hoyt
A/N: Congrats to Tommy for winning the last poll for headcanons :) I love this man sm. I scour the entire internet just for fanart of his body he's so soft and aaaaa !!!
Tumblr media
🔪 Tommy is unfamiliar with romance entirely. The most he'd gotten to know of it were stories from Luda Mae during childhood but he never got to experience it himself.
🔪 And the mention of what a "man does to a woman" by Hoyt wasn't appealing to him in any way. Tommy just focused on providing for the family and ignoring what Hoyt said.
🔪Then, a new set of victims made the mistake of running into Hoyt and Tommy was to do his job. Yet, for some reason, he couldn't help but stare at you when he brought you down to the basement and rather than running, you clung to him instead to hide from Hoyt.
🔪 For once, he wanted to protect you while Hoyt yelled at him to just kill you. But, everything was different this time. Someone willingly approached him rather than screaming.
🔪 Tommy was firm in his decision, towering over Hoyt as his own silent threat to keep you around. And so he did. While he couldn't speak to you, he tried his best to care for you despite you now being a prisoner in a home of cannibals.
🔪 He'd carefully place a plate in front of you and then just sit and stare at you, waiting for a reaction or for you to eat. Telling him you don't trust the meat in the case that it's human has him confused because they taste fine to him? But since your stuff was taken from you, Luda will just buy other foods for you to eat with your money.
🔪 In truth, Tommy is just as scared of you as you are of him. He doesn't want to upset you in any way because for once, it seems like he has a friend. An attractive one too. He waits for you to be more comfortable around him.
🔪 Tommy is a light sleeper so he'd have you sleep in his room with him. If you were to try and sneak out, he'd be right there to stop you. But, it's not like you have much of a way to sneak out anyway since he is completely clung to you in his sleep without realizing it. It's as though you were his pillow or plushie to cuddle during the nighttime.
🔪 When Luda noticed the way Tommy treated you, she would whisper little things he could do to impress you or make you happy. She always wanted him to find someone, especially since Tommy had his struggles.
🔪 He gets nervous when trying to do some of what Luda suggested because it felt like he was a little boy again. A little lovesick boy. But he’s a mama’s boy and knows Luda is helping him. He'd approach you and hand a flower to you, just as she suggested, hoping that it works to make you happy.
🔪 Some days, you’ll wake up to find a little note in your dresser. It’s in poor handwriting but you can tell it’s from Tommy. He picked it up from what Luda used to do—Leave notes in his lunch each day.
🔪 The first note you got had some drawings on it. You could make out smiley faces and hearts. The only legible words on the note was “I LOVE YOU”.
🔪 Tommy is very careful around you since he's aware of his size. He tries to be like a gentle giant, although, he can default to being too gentle, treating you as though you were made of glass.
🔪 He's scared to hurt you. After all, that's the only thing Hoyt has him do. Gods forbid if he did hurt you in some way, he'd slink away into the basement to avoid being around you. He would need some coaxing to understand that you're okay.
🔪 Overall though, Tommy is an absolute sweetheart. He's very attentive and willing to do whatever to make you happy. And he's also very easy to please! He's been taught to be happy with the minimum so anything besides that immediately makes him overjoyed.
🔪 Tommy's favorite thing to do is hold hands with you. He's self-conscious over the fact that his hands are scarred and rough but he can't help but be an internal mess at the electric touch between you two.
🔪 Sometimes when he's upset with Hoyt's constant yelling and berating, he'll toss you over his shoulders like nothing and bring you outside with him so he can cool down with you.
🔪 He finds solace in you. You'll find how Tommy will just sometimes stare at you because he's admiring your appearance. He has a particular fascination with your eyes. He finds it hard to look at them directly but when you aren't looking at him, it's all he can focus on.
🔪 One thing about Tommy: As much as he can be sweet, he still is a brutish murderer. Any victims who even catch a glimpse of you are his first targets.
🔪 It can be almost unnerving how easily Tommy can switch like that. To be so gentle with you to becoming a murderous beast towards anyone else.
🔪 One quick way you’ve seen Tommy get upset is when he heard Hoyt talk explicitly about your body. Hoyt did it specifically to make you uncomfortable as that is what gets him off most.
🔪 But his grin was quickly wiped off by how Tommy turned around and stared down Hoyt. He didn’t have much restraint but decided to simply pick you up and leave to his room with you. His silent threats spoke for him.
🔪 He also has a tendency to be paranoid about you staying. He makes sure you understand that this is your home now. He is your family. You wouldn't leave him alone again, right?
🔪 Tommy isn’t that hesitant to never take off his mask but he is around you because of his insecurities. He knows what generally attractive people look like considering the victims he’s caught before and knows he doesn’t look like that.
🔪 He grows more accustomed to having his mask off when you aren’t afraid to kiss and caress his face. You couldn’t be lying about that when your touch was so sweet and gentle with him.
🔪 Tommy’s main Love Languages to give are: Acts of Service and Quality Time. He loves to receive in return Quality Time and Words of Affirmation.
🔪 Tommy likes to go out of his way to do things for you because he likes to feel useful to you. Anything he can do to help you out and he’s rushing to help.
🔪 Any errand around the house he immediately takes up so he can hear you praise him for it.
🔪 If he sees you working, he’s made it a habit to get you tea or lemonade. In the mornings, he’s used to waking up early so he’ll let you sleep in and surprise you with breakfast. Before bed, he has a whole ritual for you before going to bed.
🔪 Pulling back the covers, making sure the pillows are cold and plumped up. And once you walk in, he’s planting kisses across your face, picking you up and tucking you in while he gets in beside you and holding you close.
🔪 One of his favorites to do is when you ask him to pick something up for you if it’s too heavy. When you compliment him for being strong, he’s barely letting you pick anything up anymore because he wants to hear you praise him more.
🔪 Tommy also just generally loves to spend alone time with you. Constantly being around his family in the home can leave him feeling slightly stir crazy.
🔪 He loves to just sit under a tree, under the shade and away from the harsh sun, beside you and just enjoy your presence.
🔪 Tommy was a little hesitant at the suggestion of a spa day with face masks and other things, considering he’d have to take off his mask but seeing you in the same face mask as him in the mirror and he was silently asking each week to do it again and again.

"Archie?" Polly said quirking a brow as she looked over the documents in her hand at the young boy stood at the betting shop door. " Finn's at school" she added as she turned in her chair, a tight smile gracing the corner of her lips as she beckoned him forward with her hand. " Does your mum know you're here bunking off?" She said removing his peaked cap as Archie looked down at the plate of shortbread next to the steaming cup of tea on Polly's desk. "Go on" she said nodding to them with a smile as his eyes lit up and he reached out for the biggest one on the small porcelain plate.
" Mum said I didn't have to go school today" he replied, mouth half full, his rosy red cheeks nipped by the bitter winter air ballooned with the entirety of the biscuit he had managed to fit in his mouth. "Doing deliveries for Mr Patterson at the flower shop, need the extra money now dad's been sacked by the rail works" he replied wiping his mouth as he looked down at his muddy boots, one missing a shoe lace, the other with a patched up hole on the side. Archie was one of many Small Heath children that had found themselves having to help provide for their families, forgoing education over the necessity to eat. The great war having taken the lives and jobs of many men of Birmingham had also taken the joys of childhood from their children too. Times were hard and sacrifices had to be made. Polly was not one to judge any parents decision to pull their son or daughter out of school, she only wished Archie and those like him had the chance to be children for a little while longer. For what was a summers days without the sound of kids playing outside in the street?
" Go on, have another" she winked as Archie replied with a grin that only deepened his enviable dimples whilst he picked out a second shortbread." Well I know I don't have any secret admirers Archie..." Polly said rubbing one of the rose petals between her fingers within the bouquet of flowers under the small boys arm."...so who's the lucky lady?"
" Mr Shelby" he replied brushing the crumbs of the newly stitched winter coat his mum had lovingly made for him.
" Tommy?" Polly said furrowing her brow as she looked over his shoulder to her nephew sitting at his desk in his office when Arthur and John walked in, slamming the betting shop door behind them. Five minutes peace, that's all she ever prayed for every Sunday at mass. Was it really too much to ask?
" Archie boy!" Arthur's voice boomed as he strode over, rustling the ten year old hair with his large calloused hands. " What you doing here ay? Skiving?" Arthur chuckled as he sat down on the edge of the desk pinching a biscuit from his Aunt, earning him a sharp glare and a irritated huff.
"Working" he replied standing up straight with his chin up. He was one of them now, a grown man or at least he thought he was, his muddy knees and youthful face begged to differ.
" Working ay, good lad" Arthur winked patting his shoulder as he reached for his Aunt's cup of hot tea, earning him a second glare and this time a smack on the back of his hand. No one was too old for a good hiding in Polly's eyes, something her grown nephews had learnt over the years as they continued to test her patience.
" Schools a bloody waste of time anyway Archie" John said turning his toothpick between his lips.
" Yes, a lot of good it did you and your crooked handwriting" Polly quipped back, a small smirk etched on the corner of her mouth as she returned her gaze to the documents on her desk.
" It's called doctors hand writing, alright?" John replied with a scowl on his face.
" Esme tell you that?" Arthur chuckled watching his brothers frustration at being the brunt of his families teasing.
" No it's, it's how doctors write. You know intellects" he replied pointing to the side of his head.
" Aright John boy whatever let's you sleeps at night" Arthur sniggered as he looked down at the bunch of roses in Archie's hand. " Who are these for then?"
" His Royal Highness" Polly said nodding to Tommy's office door as she picked up her now lukewarm cup of tea.
" Tommy ay? Come on then lad, let's not keep Mr Patterson waiting on any more deliveries" Arthur said as Archie nodded his head following him and John into Tommy's office.
"Arthur, John...Archie?" Tommy said, a cigarette hanging from the corner of his mouth as he looked up from his desk, surprised to see his Finn's friend standing in the middle of the room with the bouquet he had picked out for you in his hand. And was that the card he had written for you, torn up? " She erh, she wasn't home? Tommy said clearing his throat as he stubbed his cigarette out, his eyes glaring at the handwritten note between the flowers. It was definitely ripped. Shit.
" She told me to..." Archie said as he looked to John and Arthur stood next to him trying to hold back their amusement. Their poor attempts not enough to stop the small snorts and sniggers they hadn't bothered to muffle from escaping.
"Yes?" Tommy said, his jaw tightening at the sight of his brothers clear enjoyment at the whole situation.
" ...to send them back" Archie said as Arthur John burst into a fit of laughs.
" Bloody hell Tommy, what woman sends flowers back? How many did you give her? John laughed as Arthur let out a loud snort.
" Seven" Archie quickly stated on behalf of him, not realising the further embarrassment it would cause the notorious gangster who had now sunk into his chair, his thumb brushing along his brow as the laughs of his brothers resonated through the betting shop.
" Alright, thanks Archie" Tommy said rubbing his hand down his face as the young boy left, leaving the bouquet of red roses with Arthur with a tip of his peaked cap.
" Seven bouquets ay" Arthur said inspecting them as Tommy looked out the window, his grandiose gesture now looking like a pathetic plea for forgiveness.
" She won't fucking talk to me will she" Tommy said lighting another cigarette as John and Arthur hunched over the table puzzling the pieces of card together you had ripped in a clear message directed at Tommy to fuck off.
" Roses are red, violets are blue..." John laughed before Tommy reached over and grabbed the note before his brother could read any more of his feeble attempt to be romantic.
" Sir Edmund Spense" Arthur said nodding to the card as he leaned against the wall, his thumbs resting in the pockets of his waistcoat.
" You what?" John said his face scrunched up as he turned to look at his eldest brother.
" It's a poem, by Sir Edmund Spense" Arthur sniffed as Tommy and John looked at each other, bewildered by the mere idea Arthur did anything other than beat their enemies within an inch of their let alone read or to be more specific read poems. Even Tommy hadn't scaled through a copious amount of books in order to find the romantic passage, the back of yesterday mornings paper had been enough. " I read" Arthur said as his brothers continued to stare at him, perplexed by what they had just heard." In me spare time"
" You're going soft" John said pointing to his brother as Tommy raised his brows shifting in his seat. " Never put Y/N down for a fan of poems"
" She's not, I was running out of things to say weren't I. Tommy replied looking over to the glass decanter of whisky calling to him. Was it too early to drown his sorrows for the billionth time that week?
" Yeh, wouldn't let her hear you say that" John chuckled placing a new tooth pick between his teeth, the other having been chewed to death by the ribbing he received from Polly and Arthur. "Why don't you just say I dunno, sorry. Like normal people do"
" She's avoiding me John, she won't give me a chance" Tommy replied as he looked out the window wishing himself into next week or better yet, next year. Maybe then you'd be more willing to talk to him.
" Well you're in luck Tom, 'cause here she is. With a face on her like thunder" Arthur smirked, nodding to the glass separating his office and the betting shop floor.
" Where is he, where is the rat bastard?!" You shouted storming through the building not stopping for anyone.
" Oh hell, what's he done now?" Polly said looking above her tea cup as you marched over to her, waving your arms erratically in the air, incoherent rambles leaving your mouth about her seconded born nephew as the three brothers watched on from behind the glass.
" I'd say you've got about five seconds" Arthur said as he looked out the window onto the back of the house.
" Jump and roll, don't land on your feet" John added to Arthur's observation as he peered over his brothers shoulder out the window.
" Else you'll do your knees in, but I reckon that's the least of your worries" Arthur said as he looked over to Tommy brushing his hands through his hair, bracing himself for the bollocking coming his way. "Shit, she's clocked you" Arthur announced turning around as your head snapped in the direction of the three of them. This was more than about the flowers, Tommy knew that. He had pried into your life for a second time. The only thing he could hope for was you didn't know about the first. And with the absence of a lethal weapon in your hand his hopes were optimistically high.
" Thomas fucking Shelby!" You shouted marching through his office, grabbing the flowers from his desk and launching them straight at his head, silently hoping Mr Patterson had left the thorns on. "You bastard! You bloody bastard"
" Look, I know you're angry but let me explain" Tommy said with his hand out as he watched yours clasp around the bronze sculpture of a horse sitting on his desk that was sure to knock him out if you threw it. After having a variety of household items thrown at him in in the past week he knew you wasn't bluffing, your face said it all you were pissed off, really pissed off.
" No I'm not angry Tommy I'm fucking furious!" you said, your face scrunched up in anger as you stared him down, waiting for him to admit what he had done.
" Arthur, John can you...can you give us a minute?" Tommy said as he walked forward only to stop when he saw your grasp on the bronze ornament tighten. " Lads, please" Tommy said gesturing to the door as he watched you in the corner of his eye. Sighing heavily Tommy turned to his desk as his brothers walked out leaving you alone together, leaving him to face yet another stupid idea he was responsible for. "Cigarette?" he offered holding his silver case out for you to take which you did, and then threw on the floor beside you. " Right" Tommy said as he sat down in his chair pinching his bottom lip together as he looked back at you, furious as the the night he had drunkenly embarrassed himself in front of the whole of Watery Lane. "You won't talk to me Y/N" he said lighting his third cigarette in the space of fifteen minutes.
" So you decided to force me to talk to you by sabotaging not one but three potential job offers"
" I didn't sabotage them. I merely informed them that you already had a job here, as my secretary" Tommy replied pointing his finger into his desk.
" But I dont do I Tommy? You fired me, remember?" You scoffed, a scoff you hoped would not only distract him but you from the tears welling in your eyes.
" Sweetheart look, can..." Tommy was about to say when your eyes narrowed in on him and he stopped himself before he infuriated you any more than you already was. " Y/N, can we talk as adults? Sit down without, throwing anything?" he said gesturing to your hand still resting on the statue.
" Are you patronising me?" You replied, your voice going up an octave at his suggestion you were being immature when for the past five years he had been far from mature himself.
" No I'm just...fuck sake, I can't win with you" Tommy replied throwing his hand up in the air as he leaned back into his chair shaking his head.
"No you can't, so stop meddling in my life Tommy. Stop ruining every chance I have to move on"
" And that's what you want? To move on?" Tommy reluctantly asked as he looked back to you, the uncomfortable weight now sitting on his chest making him wish he never asked the question at all.
" Yes" you replied turning your head, unable to face him and the truth that you couldn't and wouldn't ever be able to stop loving him, stop wanting him.
" You're lying Y/N, I could always tell when you're lying" Tommy said as he stood up slowly walking over to you like you would a wild horse.
"You need to let me be, let me move on" you sniffed back as your eyes cast down to the floor. " Isn't that what you've been doing, moving on? I gave you space Tommy, I gave you what you wanted for five years even though it was breaking my heart and all I wanted you to do was hold me in your arms" You said wiping your tears, furious at yourself for letting him see you this way.
"Then let me ey, let me hold you" Tommy said moving closer, his hand reaching out for you. " Sweetheart..."
"Stop calling me that!" You cried brushing his attempts away as you walked past him to his office door. You weren't his sweetheart, you weren't his childhood love, you weren't his girl. It was over, all of it over. " Boundaries Tommy, you need to learn some boundaries. Learn to leave me alone" you said opening his door looking back at the defeat on his face as you recomposed yourself. " And Tommy?" You said turning one last time before shutting the door. " If you call me sweetheart one more time I swear to god you'll find the sharp end of that ugly horse ornament aimed straight at your cock, and this time I promise you, I won't miss" and with that you left, shutting the door behind you as Tommy watched you walk past the glass on the opposite of his office, your head held high as you brushed your hair to one side not giving him a second glance. He had been told off look a naughty school boy, and just like a child he was in for the biggest lesson of his life, patience.
"I wasn't really going to throw it" you said sat beside Ada in the Garrison as she rocked Karl back and forth in his pram. "I mean, I was tempted" you added unable to hold back your laugh as Ada giggled into her glass of gin. " Ada I don't know what's gotten into me. I just want to kill him...all the time. And the worse part is I think he was trying to say sorry, and I didn't let him" you sighed bringing your hand up to your face as you closed your eyes, having recounted what had happened in Tommy's office and everything else in the past month to his younger sister at lightening speed. The rapid pace of your account of events clearly fuelled by the anger still lingering within you.
" Hey" Ada said moving your hand away, her face scrunched up with concern. "Nothings gotten into you, more like what's gotten out of you. Five years worth of pent up anger would drive anyone to the point of wanting to wring my idiot brothers neck" she said as she looked at the bags under your eyes, Tommy always did have a knack for making people feel as sleep deprived and knackered as him. "You've been bottling it up for far too long locked away in that flat.." she said as she raised her brow ready to give you a bitter reality check. "...not living"
" What...I've been living" you scoffed leaning back into your chair as you crossed your arms. " I'm breathing aren't I?"
" Right, tell me then. When's the last time you let your hair down and you know, had some fun?" she replied mirroring your actions, crossed armed ready for whatever lie you had convinced yourself of.
" Well, there's..." you said furrowing your brow trying desperately to think back to the last time you actually laughed, did Arthur's endearing jokes count? " Well I can't, can I? Not with him gallivanting about with god knows who stealing the fun from everyone else" you pouted, resolving to the fact you hadn't had a proper nights out in years.
" If you call moping about day and night complaining about you, then sure he's had as much fun as you" Ada replied taking a grizzly baby Karl out his pram as she lifted her blouse to feed him. " If it bothers you that much then kindly bugger off " Ada said turning to the group of workmen shaking their heads seated a few tables away as they took their glasses and moved to the bar. "And before you even say anything, that barmaid was all for show, he was angry. I'm sorry he picked the worse way possible of showing you babe" Ada said reaching her hand out for you giving it a gentle squeeze. " Why don't I set you up with someone, one of Freddie's friends, for a date" she suggested nudging her arm with yours, a mischievous glint in her eye.
" But Tommy...his your brother..I"
" Y/N stop. You're allowed to go out even if it's just for a bit of fun" She cut you off as she brought Karl up to her shoulder, gently patting his back.
" Ada Thorne, why do I get the feeling you just want me to piss him off" you squinted at her as a smile formed on the corner of your mouth. It wouldn't hurt to give him a taste of his own medicine. You thought to yourself knowing he had his henchman still keeping their eye on you.
" Hm, whatever made you think that?" she winked to you as the Garrison doors blew open and the very man who had been the topic of conversation for the past hour walked in. "Speak of the devil. Here he is, tail between his legs" Ada nodded to the door as she placed Karl back into his pram.
" More like a dog with a bone" you huffed as you turned to see him walking straight for you. God, what did he want now?
" Boundaries" Tommy said standing beside you as you sipped on your drink, crossing one leg over the other.
" Yes and? " you replied bluntly as you diverted your eyes elsewhere, the stained-glass of the Garrison windows for one.
"Well, I need some clarifications" he said as he walked around the table, now directly in front of you. Fuck sake.
" Clarifications, what do you want me to do write you a list?" You scoffed as Tommy carefully considered his reply. A list would make his life easier.
" Y/N, you gotta give me something. What do you want me to do?" he replied with a huff, abandoning the idea of a catalogue of what he could and couldn't do as he placed both of his hands on the table looming over you. Fuck you look tired. Was that his fault too?
" Fuck off Tommy, that's what I want you to do" you said scraping your chair back along the wooden floorboards as you got up and left the Garrison, leaving him for a second time that day clueless on what to do next.
"Oh Tommy, you won't be able to bring her around with your charm this time. I'm afraid this is something a quick fuck down by the cut won't fix. You need to try harder" Ada said as she stood up putting her coat on.
" I'm trying Ada, but she'll barely talk to me"
" Yeh I heard about your attempts to win her back. Seven bouquets of flowers, her place looked like a bloody graveyard Tommy, hardly romantic" she said rolling her eyes as she turned the pram to the door.
" How was I supposed to know she didn't like flowers any more?" Tommy huffed as he followed his sister out the Garrison. Maybe Ada knew something he didn't that would win you back...he hoped.
" You know Y/N better than anyone Tommy, you must have known she wouldn't have liked that tacky show of wealth. And don't even get me started on your attempts to get her attention" Ada said struggling to push the pram through the thick mud and dirt of Small Heath. " Do you not remember the flowers you used to pick her and how long you'd spend doing it?" Ada stopped, looking up at her brother as the realisation finally hit him. That over the top plea of forgiveness may have cost him a day's wages but only now did he realise how it must have come across. A cop out. And as Ada so rightfully said, tacky." She didn't fall in love with this Tommy, the Tommy that has to show everyone his worth, his status. She fell in love with this one" she said pulling out the gold pocket watch you had gifted him ten years ago from within his waistcoat that had been back in its rightful place for over a week. " Stop being the worst version of yourself and show her who's she been missing, who she fell in love with. And for the love of god stop being a bloody idiot" she said before turning onto watery lane as a glimmer of a smile played on the corner of Tommy's lips at his sister brutal but well-deserved parting words.
How many more people was it going to take before he let his stubbornness slide and took their advice. It would admittedly be the hardest thing he had ever had to do, no doubt driving him mad in the process. Tommy thought to himself deciding to call of his men from keeping an eye on you or as he corrected anyone who dared to challenge him on the matter, keeping you safe. If he was going to do this he would do it the correct way, without the grand displays or need of theatrics. For the first time in a long time Tommy was going let things play out at their own pace, relenting all control over the situation his was so desperate to resolve.
Tea why did you offer him a tea? You thought to yourself climbing the stairs with the friend of Freddie's Ada had set you up with. The evening had been a disaster. Henry, your date, had spent the entirety of the night talking about his one and only passion politics, something you had little to zero interest in. Opening the door to your place you mentally reminded yourself to have words with Ada about the complete bore she had set you up with and clarification as to what she considered a good night out, because this certainly wasn't it.
" Nice place" he said entering your small bedsit. Was he joking? It was the pokiest flat in Small Heath, nothing worked and you was pretty sure a small family of mice had moved in and made it their life's mission to steal any form of food you left out for more than five minutes.
" Thank you" you said gesturing for him to sit at the small table by your window as you turned to make the tea you was reluctantly going to have to prepare whether you wanted to or not. Desperate to get him to leave and as quick as possible you decided to forgo boiling any water and instead planned on making him the coldest brew of tea known to man. That would do the trick, wouldn't it? " Here" you said placing the small mug in front of him as your mind wandered to what had really been occupying your thoughts all evening. Tommy.
" That was quick" he replied scrunching his brow as he looked into the murky water, a few tea leaves floating on the top. "You not having one?"
" Oh no, not a fan of...that " you said twiddling your thumbs on your lap as you looked at the less than delightful concoction you had created.
" Did you even boil.." he started to say causing your cheeks to turn bright red as your brain scrambled to come up with an excuse when, as if you had been saved by a higher power there was a knock at that door.
" Excuse me" you said walking away, grateful for the opportunity to leave any further interrogations about your tea making skills. "Tommy..."
" Hey" he replied softly, a smile appearing on the corner of his mouth as you opened your front door. " You've company" he said clearing his throat looking over your shoulder to see a man sitting at your kitchen table as he threw the small posy of flowers he had been holding behind his back along the outer wall of your bedsit.
" Tommy, I mean Mr Shelby. I...I thought you two weren't erhh" he stumbled, fumbling to grab his coat, abandoning the cold cup of tea he was sure you didn't boil any water for. "Together" he said swallowing harshly as he stood at the door beside you both.
" We're no.." you replied before Tommy cut your off.
"We are" Tommy said moving out of the way of the exit as he gestured for him to leave, irritated by the mere fact he had taken one extra second to do so. With the biggest scoff you could muster you crossed your arms as you stared him down. We are...is that what the past five years had been then, a bump in the road a bloody break?
"Thanks for ruining my date" you said marching over to the cup and throwing it's contents into the sink as Tommy shut the door behind him.
" What with Henry Coggs? Interesting choice for a date. Did he not bore you to death with his political crap?" Tommy chuckled as he watched you potter around your place trying to avoid any conversation with him.
" No, I found it really interesting actually" you lied and badly. " Tommy what do you want? I thought I told you to..."
" Fuck off?" he said sitting on the edge of your table as you stood in front of him.
" Leave me alone" you rephrased as he cocked a brow at your forgetful or intentional lack of memory as to what your actual parting words were to him in the Garrison a few days ago.
" And I have. I wanted to come here and say that you're right that..."
" Oh so you don't have to be a complete drunk to admit when you're wrong" you cut him off, your guard up ready for an argument you was sure would happen.
" You really want to start?"
" Ok then, let's hear what Tommy Shelby has to say? Actually no, forget it. Please leave" you said turning to the door when he grabbed your arm and span you back around to face him.
"Y/N can you just.." Tommy huffed as he tried to keep you in place. " Will you just hear me out?" he added as he placed his hand on your other arm, holding you in front on him. " Please?" He said as you found yourself nodding, stumped for words, slightly taken aback by his willingness to open up. " I..." Tommy said wetting his bottom lip with his tongue, his mouth suddenly going dry. Could he really do this without drinking a whole bottle of whisky beforehand?
" I've been an idiot" he said pausing as you rolled your eyes. Well that was the biggest understatement of the year. You thought to yourself as you turned to walk away again. "I broke my own heart Y/N, you didn't do anything wrong, you never did anything wrong" he said the words you never expected to hear causing you to stop. " I've..shit, I'm fucking this up" he said looking up at the ceiling, shaking his head as his mind uncomfortably replayed all times he had hurt you.
" No you're not, keep going. Please" you said turning around to face him.
"I made your life miserable Y/N, all because I couldn't stand how miserable I'd made my own. Pathetic aren't I ?" he said placing his hand back on your arm his thumb gently rubbing over the soft fabric of your blouse. " I don't expect you to ever forgive me for the five years of hell I put you through, I'd be a fool to think you would. But I need you to know that I regret everything, everything I've ever done that's hurt you, that's made you cry. It's all been my fault darling, I should have never made you think it was yours " he sighed, the words he had been wanting to say for the past week if not the past five years spilling out of him as if they had been patiently waiting there, waiting for him to break down the iron wall he had built around himself. Speechless you stood there, not knowing what to say, what to do as you let his words sink in. This was possibly the first time you had ever heard Tommy admit to anything let alone his own wrongdoings. And yet he had, and as you stood there staring at eachother in silence you finally came to realise what the other had endured, had regretted. The heartache you had both thought was your own had been a heartache shared, one that was now enveloping you both in a warm hug as you finally understood each others pain. " Its getting late I should probably go" he said breaking the silence and the small bubble you had both momentarily found yourselves in. "Goodnight Y/N " Tommy said as he leaned forward pressing a kiss to your cheek, the small embrace feeling the most natural thing for him to do in the moment as his lips lingered on your soft skin for a few seconds longer in hopes you would say something, do something. But you just stood there, his unexpected confession keeping you frozen in place as a rush of emotions that you had pushed to the side for five years came hurtling towards you.
"...night" you managed to coax from your lip's as you turned your head to watch him leave, listening intently to the sound of his heavy footsteps walking down the stairs as you desperately tried to think of something to say. " Tommy wait" you called out as you ran to your door only to see he had was already left, the gate at the bottom of the stairs swinging open and close as a gust of wind blew a scattering of leaves onto the steps below you. Leaning against the door frame you brought your hand up to your head as you closed your eyes, pushing your thumb into the skin between your brows as you cursed yourself for not saying anything in response to his attempts at making amends. Was that all it took? Had you forgiven him already? You thought to yourself as you opened your eyes and looked down at the rickety wooden stairs to see a posy of flowers with a small card buried within them sitting on the weather beaten wood. Wrapping your arms around your body from the cold you sat down beside the small bouquet held together by twine. One, two, three flowers, you smiled as you counted them within the various leaves and foliage. How long had it taken him to find possibly the only three flowers still alive in Small Heath after the deluge of rain and bitter weather the whole of Birmingham had endured for the past month. You thought to yourself knowing exactly who had abandoned them on the steps in front of your home, the small gesture tugging at your memories of times before when Tommy had gone out of his way to do the very same thing. Pulling out the small card your heart skipped a beat, your eyes welling with tears at the two words staring back at you, the two words you never felt you deserved, that you felt worthy of from the very man who had written them.
"I'm sorry"

also on ao3 cw: child neglect; mentions of underage drinking; brief weed presence; mentions of bullying
He doesn’t know what he was expecting.
He should have anticipated this, really. The slow drag. The tie knotted around his neck too tightly. The clatter of dishes and ruckus of pretentious, pompous laughter that makes him want to shove his fork through his eye.
He really doesn’t know what he was expecting.
A gift maybe. A birthday cake. Maybe with frosting and sprinkles. Candles. A wish. A clap on the back and an approving statement about his manhood from his father. Childhood dreams, in hindsight. Silly. Immature.
But he still longs for it all. To feel the rip of wrapping paper under his fingertips. To feel the warmth of lit candles on his face as he leans close to them. To blow them out with a silly wish and watch the smoke curl toward the ceiling before it fades. To hear his mother’s voice sing to him.
Something like in the movies. Something he’s never gotten before. Something he’s always wanted.
He’s eighteen today. He should be celebrating somehow. Getting drunk with Tommy H and the other guys. Laughing as they all slap his back and tell him he’s a man. Flirting with some girl by the punchbowl. Humbly accepting her happy birthday.
But he’s sitting next to his father at the head of their dining table, fingers drumming the dark wood as he stares down at the uneaten food on his plate. Steak and potatoes. An undrunk glass of wine. He’s listening to his father’s coworkers laugh about something, but he doesn’t know what exactly it is that’s so funny. Their voices don’t really make sense to him today. Usually he can talk with them just fine, ask about work and business deals and future plans and everything that they seem to care about. But today they sound almost discordant, like they’re all out of tune, a melody that he doesn’t recognize. He can’t follow along as they all talk, their voices blending and bleeding together, mixing with the sound of their forks and knives scraping the porcelain plates they’re using, the sound of their cups hitting the table harder than they should, the sound of their chairs scraping back over the floor.
Steve stares at his plate. Counts the pieces of potato. Six. Counts the prongs of his fork. Five. Counts the flowers on the edge of his plate. Seventeen. He drums his fingers on the table, taps his feet on the floor, takes measured breaths. Waiting until he can be dismissed, until he can leave. He doesn’t know where he wants to go, really. He thinks he’d like to go to bed, but the idea of sitting in silence after all this seems suffocating. Maybe he’ll go for a drive. He’ll have to insist to his father that he’s eighteen now, that he should be allowed to go for a drive if he wants to. It probably won’t work. But by the end of dinner, his father will probably be so drunk Steve will be able to leave without him knowing. He probably won’t remember it in the morning.
And even if he gets in trouble, Steve thinks, it’ll be worth it. To drive in the night with the windows down, the wind in his hair. A CD in, playing on the highest volume possible as he leaves town, even if just for an hour. He’ll take his tie off. Want to toss it out the window and then leave it behind along with Hawkins and this house, but he’ll just put it in the backseat and forget it there for a while.
He’s distracted from the daydream when his father claps him on the back roughly, startling as he jolts forward with the force of it. He’s always hit Steve too hard when he does this, fatherly slaps on the back when Steve’s done well in something he actually cares about. The most recent one was after a swimming competition; Steve hadn’t put his shirt on when he’d done it, and it stung like a bitch in a way that made Steve feel like a little boy again, but it was worth it.
“To Steve,” his father is saying, raising his fifth glass of wine to the ceiling, smiling. He has an eerie smile. Steve’s always thought so. His teeth are too white, too straight. Like he’s wearing a mask.
Steve smiles bashfully as a chorus of his name goes around the room, ducking his head and nodding when the men raise their glasses to him. A few of them wish him a happy birthday. One says something about him being a man. His father drains his wineglass, tilting his head back as his hand rests on the back of Steve’s neck, holding him too tightly, like he’s using him to hold his balance.
As far as birthday parties go, it was shitty.
Not that Steve would really have a good party to compare it to. All his birthday parties have been like this, ending with a bunch of wasted men in business suits crashing in his living room or recklessly driving home to their bored wives. Or, in recent years, ending very similarly but with teenage boys instead. Though Steve doesn’t allow them to drive home; usually a few stay in the guest room (often on the floor) or in his room for the night. He doesn’t sleep.
It’s dark in the living room as he steps around one of his father’s coworkers. It’s the one with the red tie that Steve had admired when he arrived. It’s looser now, draped over his neck as he lays on the floor. He’s snoring.
The floor creaks as Steve makes his way toward the door. His father is in bed already, probably passed out and reeking of wine. It’s a small comfort to know that Steve’s mom doesn’t have to deal with him tonight. She’s at a bachelorette party or something. She’s probably just as drunk as he husband.
Steve finds his car keys in the dark, and they jungle in his hand as he opens the door, but he doesn’t bother looking back to check if he’s awoken anyone; he doesn’t particularly care.
His vision is blurring before he’s even to his car, and before he can think anything else, he’s dragging the end of his key across the door of one of the cars he’s passing. He doesn’t look back, but as he gets into his own car, he realizes it was his father’s car. Maybe in the morning, he can convince him that one of his coworkers did it in a drunken stupor as a joke.
He rolls the windows down as he drives, blinking tears out of his eyes.
Eighteen was always supposed to be a big thing, wasn’t it? Adulthood. Manhood. He can vote now. Isn’t that a big deal?
All his friends couldn’t wait to turn eighteen. Steve isn’t the first of them to reach it, but he isn’t the youngest. The other day at school a few of them complained that they have to wait a few more months, and Tommy H joked about celebrating by going into Indy and hitting up a strip club.
They all laughed at that. And told Tommy it was a great idea, that Jared could drive them all. (He’d gotten his license before anyone else and it was decided that he would always be the designated driver.) They’d all wanted to do it, go out together, have a good time. Et cetera.
But looking at the sky, the wind drying the tears that are streaking down his cheeks, Steve’s never felt more alone. And he fucking hates wine, hates being drunk in general, but he would do anything for some weed right now. So he takes a left turn toward Forest Hills instead of toward the Leaving Hawkins sign.
Eddie knows he should have gone to bed hours ago. He doesn’t even know what time it is, but he’s so comfortable here, curled up on the sofa in his sweatpants, shirt off because it’s warm enough that he doesn’t need it. There’s a book in his lap, and his head rests on the back of the sofa as he reads it, thumbing over the page as he silently mouths the words to himself. The glow of the lamp behind him makes the pages gold.
He’s startled when there’s a knock on the door, and he looks up, wide-eyed. He’d vaguely heard a car pull in in front of the trailer, but he hadn’t paid it any attention, too engrossed in his book, which he sets aside after folding the corner of the page he’s on. It’s just a small fold, but he knows Wayne would smack him upside the head for it.
He stops short when he opens the door, eye to eye with the King.
It’s quiet as they stare at each other for a moment. Steve’s eyes wander down to the tattoos on Eddie’s chest, and Eddie is suddenly embarrassed that he’s shirtless and in sweatpants, especially when he realizes Steve is literally wearing a suit, a black tie tied around his neck. The only comfort is that his hair is a mess, which is oddly more satisfying than it should be.
“Hey,” Eddie says hesitantly. It’s odd that Steve is here. It’s not like Eddie’s never sold to him before, but he definitely isn’t a frequent customer. And it’s Sunday night. “What’s up?”
“I, uhm. Can I have some weed?”
Eddie realizes he’s holding his wallet in his hands, looking at Eddie like he’s pleading, and Eddie’s chest feels a little tight, like he’s looking at a dog abandoned on the side of the road.
“Yeah,” he says, swinging the door open wider and stepping aside. “‘Course.”
Steve steps in, ducking his head like he’s going to hit it on the doorframe, and Eddie shuts the door behind him, awkwardly glancing at him. He looks nice in the suit. Unfairly nice. Criminally nice. It should be illegal for him to be in public like this.
“What kinda party you headed to?” Eddie asks, going to the kitchen and grabbing the tin lunchbox from where he left it on the counter.
“Uh, I left one, actually,” Steve says, pushing a hand through his hair, and Jesus, that should be illegal too.
“What kinda party you ditch?” Eddie fixes, going to sit on the sofa and opening the lunch box, half-smiling when he sees Steve’s expression lighten.
“A shitty one.”
“How so?”
Steve sighs, looking around the room.
“Just… A bunch of my dad’s coworkers came over for dinner. They got wasted. I don’t know. It sucks.”
Eddie glances up at him, pulling a baggie of weed out of the box and preparing to hold it out to him, but Steve hasn’t made a move to open his wallet, and his face is tight again as he looks at Wayne’s hats, like he’s thinking too hard.
“Tell me,” Eddie says, opening the baggie instead and instinctively lifting it to his nose to smell it.
“It’s…” Steve pauses, blinking and glancing at him. “It’s nothing, you don’t— You don’t wanna hear it.”
“Yes, I do,” Eddie says lightly, pulling the grinder out of the box. “Go ‘head,” he adds with a jerk of his chin. “You need to talk about it, I can tell. Tell me.”
Steve blinks at him and sighs again.
“I don’t know,” he says again, turning away to look around again. It’s like he’s fascinated by the living room, like the hats and mugs are from an art gallery or something. “I guess I thought maybe my dad might actually wanna do something nice for my birthday, like— like he might invite over my favorite aunt and her kids, and we’d have, like, a nice dinner. Even though her kids are only in, like, fifth grade, it— it could have been nice. But he just wanted to convince his coworker of something or whatever, so he bought a bunch of wine, and…”
He trails off, grimacing at the wall, and Eddie’s hands slow to a stop, looking up at him.
“And Mom went to some party,” Steve continues, his voice shaking for a moment. “Some bachelorette or something. Which, I mean… She couldn’t change the date on that, but it still, like, I don’t know. Kind of hurts that I haven’t seen her all day. But also, I mean, I’m kind of glad she wasn’t there with my dad’s coworkers, I mean they… They’re so gross. Especially when they drink.”
“It’s your birthday?” Eddie interrupts, and Steve blinks and looks at him. He’s quiet for a moment, eyes searching Eddie’s like he’s lost.
“...It’s my birthday,” he says, and it’s like he’s just realized it, like it’s just set in. Eddie’s chest hurts.
“Why… Why didn’t you throw yourself a party?” he asks after a moment, still holding the grinder even though he isn’t doing anything with it. Steve looks away, blinking his eyes hard, tossing a hand with a huff.
“I don’t know,” he says. “I think— I think maybe I just hoped they’d do something for me. Stupid fucking hope, though,” he scoffs. “Like they’d do shit for me after eighteen fuckin’ years.”
“Didn’t you do something last year?” Eddie asks, finally setting the grinder down.
“Yeah.”
He says it so softly. Like he’s remembering. Like he’s sad.
“Fucking sucked,” he says. “I’m so…”
He trails off, exhaling, but Eddie is curious.
“You’re so…”
Steve shrugs.
“I don’t know.” His voice shakes again, and he shrugs, blinking his eyes hard as he pinches his nose briefly. “Tired of it all.”
“What all?”
Eddie knows he’s pushing it. Steve is going to snap at him. Tell him he came for weed, not therapy. But Steve just exhales again.
“Everything,” he says. “I’m fucking sick of— of my dad and I'm sick of the house and I'm sick of Tommy fucking Hagan and Carol Perkins and I'm sick of parties and booze and those stupid fucking plastic cups—”
He cuts himself off, turning away, and Eddie blinks, furrowing his brows.
“...Steve?”
Steve turns a little bit, looking at him, and his eyes are shining with unshed tears, and he looks so small. Like a cornered rabbit. Scared.
“You can stay,” Eddie says quietly. “If you want to. As long as you need.”
Steve looks like he crumbles, face falling as he looks at the ground, and he sits heavily on the armchair next to the sofa. Eddie kind of (really) wants to reach out and touch him, but he doesn’t.
“I keyed my dad’s car,” Steve says after a moment. “When I left.”
“Bastard probably deserves it.”
Steve finally gives a soft laugh, half-smiling, and he nods.
“I didn’t even realize I was doing it,” he says. “Or that it was his car. I just… I was already doing it before I even noticed there was a car next to me, it…”
“I think that’s God making you do what’s meant to be.”
Steve scoffs.
“Doesn’t that interfere with free will?”
Eddie shrugs, grinning, leaning back on the sofa.
“He’s gonna be so pissed tomorrow,” Steve says, sighing heavily and leaning back in the armchair. His jacket falls open, and Eddie forces himself to look away. “I might convince him his friend did it while drunk, but…”
“Worst case scenario, you can just blame me,” Eddie says. Steve looks at him, blinking in confusion.
“Why would I do that?”
Eddie shrugs.
“Believable. I can say I was on a nice midnight walk and heard some rich fucks havin’ a grand ol’ time. Pissed me off. Keyed a car.”
Steve listens, looking at him in a way that Eddie can tell he isn’t going to take him up on his offer, but he looks amused, which is nice.
“Plus it would make more sense if it was me,” Eddie says lightly. “You know. The Freak keying a car compared to the King keying a car. Seems more my speed. Also with all the shit I get into, keying a car is barely a blip on my record,” he adds dismissively. Steve raises an eyebrow (hot), and scoffs.
“Yeah?”
“The law can’t touch me, baby,” Eddie jokes, and his chest lights up like the sun when Steve rolls his eyes and looks away, his cheeks flushing with color.
Of course he knows how pretty Steve is. And of course, because why the fuck wouldn’t he, he’s had a crush on him for years. It’s bullshit, in Eddie’s opinion. That Eddie, the Town Queer, falls for the fucking King, the epitome of the Straight Man, the Ladies’ Man. But he fell so easily. And it doesn’t help that Steve is hanging out in his living room, looking around, hair shining in the light of the lamp like it’s threaded with gold.
“Why are you being so nice to me?” Steve asks softly.
“You’re not really that bad,” Eddie says lightly.
“...I’m an asshole.”
Eddie blinks at him, tilting his head.
“Steve,” he says firmly, prompting him to look up at him with those fucking sad puppy dog eyes again. “I told Tommy Hagan his money should pay for a better wardrobe and he called me a fag and told me to kill myself. I told you I could smell your hairspray across the cafeteria and you just laughed. I stand up on the tables and harass you guys in the hallways in you're the only one that doesn't try to shove me into a locker or call me a slur. You're not like them.”
Steve looks away. He looks sad.
“Why do you do it?” he asks after a moment, looking up at Eddie, and he’s changing the subject, deflecting. “Draw so much attention to yourself when everyone is so shitty to you?”
Eddie relaxes into the sofa again, sighing, pausing.
“I kind of… I don’t know. Try to keep the target on me. The kids that hang out with me already put a target on themselves by being near me, but they… I don’t know, they’re, like… Fragile, I guess. A lot of their families are shitty, and they’ve been dealing with bullies since they were little, so… I try to keep the assholes’ attention on me as much as I can.”
He pauses, looking up at Steve to find him looking back already, chin resting on his palm, elbow on the armrest. Eddie looks away again, shifting.
“That’s kinda why I answered the door so fast,” he says. “Sometimes it’s one of my little sheep. Sometimes they need, like… Ice and painkillers. Or a place to spend the night. Sometimes just… someone to listen to them. Or take their mind off something.” He looks back at him. “Imagine my surprise at finding the Hair at my front door.”
Steve doesn’t laugh, but he’s almost smiling still, eyes shining, lips curved just a little bit. And he’s quiet for a few moments before—
“I really like you, Eddie.”
Eddie blinks in surprise.
They haven’t even smoked anything. (Eddie was planning on just lighting a joint up without charging Steve. Because it’s his birthday. Duh.) But Steve fucking Harrington just told him he really likes him.
Eddie forces a light laugh.
“Careful who you say that around,” he says weakly. “People might get the wrong idea.”
Steve looks back at him.
“There’s no one else here,” he says quietly.
And then it’s quiet as they just look at each other, and Eddie really shouldn’t be reading into this. (Again: Steve Harrington. The King. Straight Man. Ladies’ Man.) But it’s hard not to in this silence, which Steve looking at him like that in the warm glow of the lamp.
“Do you wanna spend the night?” Eddie asks without thinking. “I… I have some, like, sweats you can borrow, and we have spare toothbrushes and everything.”
Steve finally looks away, toward the door, like he’s expecting someone to come in.
“I don’t know, it’s… I don’t wanna be a bother—”
“You’re not,” Eddie interrupts. Steve stares back at him again.
“We have school tomorrow.”
“Fuck school,” Eddie says, shaking his head. “...You deserve to rest.”
Steve is quiet again.
“...Okay.”
Eddie smiles and beckons with a tilt of his head.
“C’mon.”
Steve follows him to his room after he toes his shoes off and leaves them by the door, and his mismatched socks are oddly endearing. He pushes his hands into his pockets while Eddie gets some clothes from his closet (a pair of black sweatpants and a black sweatshirt that’s stained with bleach, reddish-orange spots near the hem and on one of the sleeves), and Eddie leaves the clothes on his bed before he leaves to the bathroom to find the extra toothbrush.
When he comes back, Steve has taken off his jacket. It’s resting on Eddie’s desk chair, almost blending into the mess, and Steve is struggling with the knot of his tie, brows furrowed with frustration, lips pursed in a pout, and Eddie wants to squeeze him. He steps forward and swats his hands out of the way, taking over gently. They’re close as Eddie works on the tie, hands shaking a little bit because Steve is right there, and also because Eddie still hasn’t put a shirt on. (He forgets he isn’t wearing one. Wayne scolds him often for it, but Eddie’s been like this since he was thirteen.)
He can feel Steve’s eyes on him as he undoes the tie, and when it finally comes loose, he carefully slides it out of Steve’s collar.
“There you go,” he says quietly, almost whispering, and Steve takes the tie from him, his throat bobbing as he swallows.
“Thanks.”
Eddie tries to clean up while Steve uses the bathroom to change and brush his teeth, and he tugs on a t-shirt as he does so, pushing his hair out of the way as he clears off his bed and shoves his laundry into his closet. It’s not as awkward as Eddie expected when Steve comes back into his room, his eyes glancing Eddie up and down like he’s analyzing his shirt before Eddie nods at the bed. It’s big enough that they’ll both have space without crowding each other, and a part of Eddie mourns not having a smaller bed.
Steve falls asleep quickly, facing Eddie, curled up into a little ball with his arms wrapped around one of Eddie’s pillows. His face is buried in it, his hair falling across his eyes, and Eddie holds back from pushing it out of the way. His shoulders rise and fall slowly, steadily, and the sound of his breathing almost lulls Eddie to sleep too, but he stays up with his book and the dim lamp until three.
He’s careful as he goes back to the living room, stepping over the floorboards he knows are creaky, shutting the door as quietly as he can so he doesn’t wake Steve. And he calls Wayne’s work. One of his coworkers picks up.
“Hey, it’s— it’s Eddie.”
“Oh, Eddie, hey, kid. How’ve ya been?”
“I’ve been good, I just, uh, I had to talk to Wayne, is he available?”
“Yeah, he just started his break. He’s eatin’ those damn boiled eggs. Wayne! ‘S your boy.”
It’s quiet for a moment before Wayne’s gruff voice speaks into the phone.
“Eds? You okay?”
“Yeah, I’m fine, I just… Okay, so—”
“What did you do?”
“I didn’t— Excuse me. I didn’t do anything. I was wondering if you could do a favor for me.”
Wayne sighs heavily.
“What?”
“Okay, uhm. A friend of mine is over right now, and he… It’s his birthday, right? But his parents are dicks and his dad just had, like, a business meeting for his birthday dinner, and his mom is at some party or something for her friend, and my friend is kinda… I don’t know. It sucks. His friends suck.” He knows he’s speaking choppily, awkwardly, and that the word friend sounds foreign in his mouth, like it doesn’t really fit between his lips. And he knows Wayne is picking up on that too, and that Wayne definitely can already tell that Eddie has a crush, but Wayne, bless his heart, doesn’t say anything.
“So what’s this favor?”
“I don’t know, do you think… Do you think you can get, like, a cake or something on your way home? He’s spending the night.”
Wayne is quiet for another moment, and Eddie hears a clatter behind him, followed by some laughter.
“I’ll see what I can do,” he says finally.
“Thanks, Wayne.”
“What’s his name?”
“Uh. Steve.”
“Steve,” Wayne repeats slowly. “Steve. Of the Harrington sort?”
“That’s the one.”
“I didn’t know you were friends.”
“Well. Our relationship is mostly professional—”
“Right,” Wayne says with a light laugh. “Go to bed, Eds. I’ll see you when I get home.”
“Thanks, old man. Love you.”
“Love you too.”
The phone clicks when Eddie hangs it up, and he avoids the creaky floorboards again as he makes his way back to his room. Steve is still laying the same way, hugging Eddie’s pillow to himself, and he looks so…
Small.
Not at all like a king. He looks so young here, so little and helpless, and Eddie wants to wrap his arms around him and kiss his forehead. Which would definitely cross some lines.
He gets into bed slowly, lifting the blanket carefully so it doesn’t move where it’s draped over Steve’s body, and he clicks off the lamp.
It’s different in the complete darkness. It looks just like it does on any other night, dark and empty and easy for him to close his eyes and forget about the world, but he can hear Steve’s slow breaths. He can almost hear his fucking heartbeat.
At some point in the night, they move closer, and Eddie, half-asleep, blearily opens his eyes to try to find him in the dark. He can’t see anything, but he doesn’t need to when Steve shifts closer under the blanket. Eddie’s arm wraps around Steve’s waist, and Steve’s head finds its way to Eddie’s chest as he curls up into an even small bundle. The movement feels instinctive, his arm wrapping around him before he’s even fully realized how close they are, and as they settle against each other, Eddie wonders if that’s how it felt for Steve when he keyed his dad’s car. Natural. Right.
Wayne knows the Harringtons.
Richard was called Dick in high school, and Wayne always felt that the nickname was fitting. He was a rich, pompous asshole, who no doubt treats his son the same way he treated anyone he went to school with. He pulled girls’ hair and left ugly notes in their lockers and in their textbooks. He tripped younger kids in the hallways and smacked their notebooks out of their hands, and he and his friends would walk all over their worksheets and loose papers that fell across the hallway floor. He thought of himself as above everyone else, flaunted his big house and fat wallet, and Wayne always kind of hoped he would grow out of it, even when he went after Al relentlessly. It was like he had a personal vendetta against Al, and Wayne would be lying if he said he doesn’t think Richard Harrington is part of the reason Al is gone now.
And Wayne remembers Catherine. Future trophy wife, queen of Hawkins High, with her pretty brown curls that were always done up so perfectly Wayne sometimes wondered if she had a professional hair stylist. She was similar to Richard, maybe a little nicer. Though, maybe Wayne just thought she was nicer because she was so passive. Everyone knew she was the one that started most of the rumors about the other students. Cruel, cruel rumors.
They’re perfect for each other.
Wayne had heard when they had a child, but he never thought much of it. It seemed right to him. Richard and Catherine, with their bright smiles and pretty hair, with their big house and shiny wedding rings. Of course they’d have a son.
Wayne remembers seeing Catherine with Steve when he was a toddler. They were with one of Catherine’s friends, walking down the sidewalk in town, and Wayne saw them as they passed by the grocery store. Steve had been holding a bare dead dandelion, the seeds already blown off into the wind, but his tiny fist was clutching the stem like he was scared to lose it. Catherine hadn’t seemed to notice, too busy engrossed in the conversation she was having with her friend as Steve stumbled behind them, his legs too short to keep up properly.
He supposes it makes sense for Steve to buy from Eddie. The rich kids always do. Wayne remembers the local dealer when he was in high school. He was a dick, too.
But it doesn’t make sense for Steve to be spending the night at Eddie’s. Wayne doesn’t mind, of course. Anyone’s welcome at home. He’s come home from work countless times to find some kid passed out in Eddie’s bed or on the sofa (and once on the floor), and Eddie is always quick to explain. His dad was scaring him. He got jumped on his way home. She thought she was being followed. I’ll drive her home when she gets up. And Wayne, of course, always prepares an extra plate of breakfast before he crashes.
But Steve Harrington.
He can’t be treated well by Dick.
It’s all Wayne can think about as he leaves work, waves bye to his coworkers, drives into town. Everything is starting to open, and Wayne loves this part of the day. The sky is pale and bright, and the world is starting to wake up. Doors opening, sleepy eyes finding one another and greeting each other with waves and calls of “Morning!”
He’s the first customer of the day in the bakery that’s in town center. (He watched the owner flip the sign to open from his car.) He makes conversation politely as he looks around, ignoring the way the shop owner’s eyes linger on his oil-stained hands. And he points to one of the cakes in the display.
And he thinks some more about Steve on his way home. He hasn’t seen him in ages. He wonders if he would recognize him, if he resembles Catherine or Richard more.
The trailer is quiet when he comes inside, and he takes off his heavy boots before moving into the kitchen. There are a pair of nice shoes by the door, shiny and new-looking, and very clearly Steve’s. Wayne puts the cake on the counter before he goes to scrub his hands, and then he searches through the cabinets and drawers for candles. He finds a few, and they’re all uneven and different colors, but they’ll work. One is orange and striped, and Wayne knows it’s from Eddie’s thirteenth birthday.
He arranges them on the cake carefully, leaning down to make sure they’re straight, and he finds his cigarette lighter in his jacket pocket.
He makes coffee and waits at the table with a newspaper until he hears them wake up. They emerge from Eddie’s room sleepily, and Wayne sets aside the paper as he reaches for the lighter, suppressing a smile as he lights the candles carefully.
Steve is wearing Eddie’s clothes, and his hair is so messy he barely looks like a Harrington at all. But when Wayne looks at him, he can see his parents. Catherine’s eyes and nose. Richard’s mouth. Catherine’s hair. But then Steve freezes, eyes finding the cake as Wayne finishes with the candles, and they widen, shining as he stares at the flickering flames and white frosting and colorful sprinkles, and his parents are nowhere to be found.
The candles are mismatched. Orange and striped and blue and purple and green and white, short and used and loved. They’re all flickering with tiny flames that look warmer than Steve’s ever felt, and Steve just watches.
It’s a small cake. Round and white, dollops of swirly frosting decorating the top with rainbow sprinkles that are brighter than the wax of the candles, and it’s beautiful. Steve’s never had a birthday cake before. Not even at the bigger parties with his friends. They brought beer instead of cake.
But Eddie’s uncle is looking at Steve happily, eyes crinkling under his smile, and Steve thinks he’s beautiful too. His voice is gruff when it says, “Happy birthday,” and then Steve can’t see because his eyes are welling with tears and spilling over his cheeks before he can stop them or turn away to hide his face.
“Oh, Stevie,” Eddie says softly, and he pulls Steve into a hug. No one’s ever called Steve that. He thinks he likes it. Maybe he only likes it in Eddie’s voice.
Eddie’s hands are gentle as he runs them over Steve’s back and over the top of his head. They sway a little bit, and even though Steve is still crying he opens his eyes enough to see the cake over Eddie’s shoulder. The flames glow brighter with his tears in the way, blurred together with the frosting that looks like it’s glowing too in the morning light.
“You’re supposed to blow them out,” Eddie says softly when Steve’s crying slows, and Steve lets out a wet laugh, wiping his face with the end of his sleeve.
“C’mon now,” Eddie’s uncle says, nodding toward the cake. “You’re gonna let them get wax all over the frosting.”
“Sorry,” Steve chokes, moving closer to the cake and looking at it from above. The candles are arranged in an uneven circle, the flames flickering as his breath hits them, and he pauses.
He knows birthday wishes are silly and childish, but he really, really wishes every birthday would be like this.
He blows the candles out.
They sit at the table as Wayne gets a knife to cut the cake. Steve can’t seem to tear his eyes away from it, eyeing the frosting and sprinkles and candles like they’re something made of magic, and Eddie can’t seem to tear his eyes away from him.
He’s got this sort of absent smile on his face, and Eddie wants to reach out and touch him, but he doesn’t. He still has the light traces of tears on his cheeks, and his eyelashes are wet, and his eyes are glistening, and in the morning sunlight, he looks like a painting, like he’s too good to be true.
They’re all quiet as Wayne cuts the cake carefully, three little plates stacked next to the cardboard platter. Eddie looks at Steve again. He’s watching intently, unblinking.
Eddie nudges him under the table with his foot, and Steve’s eyes jump up to him, his expression softening. Eddie raises his eyebrows at him, nodding a little, asking, checking.
Steve blinks at him, his eyes flickering across Eddie’s face, and then he’s leaning over, moving closer, and he’s kissing him.
It’s a brief kiss. Soft and chaste and tentative, and accidental, instinctive, it seems based on how Steve’s eyes widen as he pulls away. His cheeks flush red, and his lips part, stammering silently.
“I—”
Eddie leans in and closes the distance between them, hands finding Steve’s face and holding it between them tenderly. Their eyes flutter shut, and Steve exhales, shoulders falling as he melts into the kiss, and Eddie feels like he might burst. They part slowly, and it takes a moment for Eddie to be able to open his eyes. When he does, he finds Steve gazing back at him, eyes wide and shining and almost fucking hopeful. Eddie’s thumbs brush over his cheeks softly, and his lips curve into a smile. Steve blinks, his eyelashes fluttering at Eddie like a butterfly, before he smiles back, tentative and shy.
“So I guess I should know your name.”
They both jump, having forgotten Wayne was there, but Wayne isn’t looking at them, smiling as he focuses on cutting and serving the cake. Eddie raises an eyebrow at him (he told him Steve’s name), and his hands fall from Steve’s face as Steve blushes again.
“I’m so sorry, I’m— I’m Steve.”
“Steve,” Wayne repeats, setting down the knife, looking up at him. Steve is still red.
“Uh, Harr—”
“I don’t need your last name,” Wayne says lightly, lifting a hand up, and Steve hesitantly reaches for it to shake. “Steve’s enough.”
They shake gently, and Steve is starting to smile again, like he knows Wayne is cool. The handshake lingers, and Wayne squeezes his hand a little.
“Happy birthday, Steve.”
“Thank you, sir,” Steve says softly when their hands fall, and the face Wayne makes at sir is enough to make him giggle.
They eat the cake. It’s sweet, and Eddie can’t help but wonder if Steve will taste sweet afterwards. He kicks at Steve’s shins under the table, and Steve glares at him, suppressing a smile, rolling his eyes as he sips the coffee that Wayne gave him when they started eating. He and Wayne chat about sports and work and school, and Eddie is content here with them.
Wayne pats both their backs when he finishes eating, ruffling Steve’s hair with another happy birthday wish before he goes to take a shower and go to bed, and Steve’s cheeks flush pink as he watches him go, glancing at Eddie.
“What?” Eddie asks lightly, licking his fork. Steve shrugs.
“He’s really nice.”
“I know,” Eddie says, glancing down the hall.
“What’s his name?”
“Wayne.”
“Wayne.” Steve repeats it like a prayer. “He’s nice.”
Eddie looks at him. He’s fidgeting with his fork, dragging it through the remaining frosting on his plate, and Eddie is about to say something before Steve speaks again.
“Sorry for kissing you in front of your uncle.”
Eddie snorts, and Steve looks up at him, eyes sparkling with amusement, suppressing a smile.
“I don’t mind,” Eddie says, flirting, leaning over the table. “Wouldn’t mind if you wanted to do it again.”
Steve’s eyes flick across his face, and Eddie realizes that’s how he was looking at him last night, glancing at his tattoos. Eddie’s smile grows.
“I’ve never kissed a boy before.”
“Third time for everything.”
Steve laughs softly, leaning closer, and their noses nudge together.
“You really don’t mind that it’s me?” he asks softly, whispering. Eddie blinks his eyes open, looking at him and tilting his head.
“Ain’t nothin’ to mind.”
“Really?” Steve breathes.
Eddie smiles fondly, lifting a hand and touching his face gently, running his thumb over his cheek lightly. And he kisses him as softly as humanly possible, so light he almost can’t feel it. Steve sighs, his hand reaching to find Eddie’s neck, and his fingers are warm on his skin, especially in the morning air. Eddie rests their foreheads together when they part, his eyes closed.
“Really.”
He opens his eyes to find Steve smiling brightly, eyes squeezed shut.
“Okay,” Steve breathes. Eddie kisses him lightly once more.
“Happy birthday, Stevie.”
“Thank you, Eddie.”
Steve pulls him into a hug, and then he kisses him again, and it tastes like birthday cake and fresh coffee and eighteen years’ worth of shitty birthdays turned upside down.

It all started a week ago. Steve had come along to The Hideout, decked in his darkest polo shirt. It was the first gig he'd come to since him and Eddie had officially- as Robin put it- 'got their shit together'.
Steve had met the band plenty of times already, and while they'd been pretty standoffish at first, he liked to think he got along with them pretty well. Jeff actually shared a similar taste in music (even admitting to liking ABBA because it reminded him of his mother) and he'd known enough about Star Wars and a mix of Dustin's interests to win over Seth. It was harder to read Gareth, but Steve had assumed they were at least acquaintances.
That was until Steve had walked up to the bar where Gareth was talking to some girl, and then Gareth had said the meanest thing imaginable.
"He's my buddy's boyfriend."
Eddie hadn't seen what the big deal was. But Steve understood the importance of befriending your partner's best friend.
Well, back in high school, Steve had never really bothered with his girlfriend's friends. He'd focused on putting in effort with the girls he found attractive, wooing them with flowers and gifts. The girls who he wanted to like him did, he didn't really care how much the other girls didn't. The only job the best friend really had in his mind was picking up the pieces after he left those girls in the dust.
That was all before Nancy, of course. She'd been so adamant about him making an impression on Barb, so he'd tried. He invited her to parties, kept Carol and Tommy off her back, even tried to back her up once or twice when Barb and Nancy were bickering.
And it worked out... kind of. Barb had still rolled her eyes whenever Steve opened his mouth, but she was also the one who pulled him aside and saved him a whole lot of embarrassment and heartache.
"I'm telling you this because I would want to know, and because I guess you're not the worst person in the world. Nancy has been hanging out with Jonathan a lot lately... I just think maybe you should pay a bit more attention to it."
But besides him and Nancy as a couple not working out, he'd realised how important being on good terms with the person you're dating's friends is to being a good boyfriend. Which is why it was integral that he became proper friends with Eddie's best friend.
--
"What are you wearing?"
Steve had just walked into the Munson trailer. He'd spent nearly an hour trying to perfect his hair, so he's mildly offended that his outfit is the first thing his boyfriend noticed. Steve glanced down at his shirt with the huge Green Day logo printed onto it. He wasn't sure why Eddie looked so appalled, it wasn't dirty or anything.
"Oh, Gareth let me borrow it. Cute right?" Eddie's nose scrunched up even further, full on glaring at the offensive item.
"I can't let you into my room with that shirt on."
"Well hopefully once we get to your room neither of us will have our shirts on" Steve chuckled, leaning in for a kiss but Eddie turned his head.
"I'm serious, big boy. The polos and tight jeans, you're whole hot preppy look actually, that all really does it for me and you know it. But this?" He pulled at the fabric of the shirt. "This is the one piece of clothing I never want to see you in."
Steve scoffed. Eddie pushed him gently away with a shake of his head.
"I'm turning off the benefits."
"What benefits?"
"The sex benefits, no more sex until you admit you're not a Green Day fan and we burn that shirt."
"Eddie this is my in with Gareth! He's finally starting to warm up to me." Steve whined. "Besides, you can't just, like, turn off us having sex!"
"Oh yes I can. All I have to do is think about you in this abominable outfit and my boner just-" He whistles, imitating his finger deflating. Steve pouted. He knew rationally he could just give Gareth back the shirt, but that would mean embarrassingly admitting he didn't like Green Day to Gareth and then trying to find another in with him.
So no, Eddie was just being unreasonable.
Anyway, he was totally bluffing about the sex. Steve hoped.
--
"It's been five days Robin! I mean, we haven't gone that long without having sex since.. since we started having sex!" Steve cried, following the woman around as she restocked the shelves. Even though he couldn't see her face he could tell she was rolling her eyes.
It was a serious situation though, at least in Steve's opinion. He and Eddie hung out all the time, and while he obviously enjoyed doing other things with his boyfriend, he wished the other man would at least have the decency to not be so sexy while performing daily tasks. Steve had been this close to jumping him in the frozen food section of the grocery store yesterday.
And he knew he wasn't the only desperate one, Eddie was suffering too. Obviously he'd assumed Steve would cave after a day, because he'd been all jumpy and grouchy for nearly a week. And he kept making that face that Steve recognised all too well whenever Steve did anything even slightly suggestive. Like when he'd bent down to put his laundry in the dryer, and when he turned back around Eddie was beet red and avoiding eye contact.
"Have you tried breaking out the old Harrington seduction techniques yet?" Robin shrugged, obviously not bothered by the fact her best friend was on the verge of death due to lack-of-sex-with-his-really-hot-boyfriend disease.
The thing was, he had tried his old methods. He tried wearing tighter shirts, that strained around his arms and showed off his midriff (but always making sure he was wearing some kind of Green Day memorabilia, because damn him if he wasn't going to be right about this). He'd invited Eddie along to his and Lucas' basketball game. He even tried straight up begging, knowing how much that usually gets Eddie worked up.
And nothing!
Although, there was still one move he hadn't tried yet...
--
"You want to what?" Eddie shot him an incredulous look.
"Help you study, of course. What kind of boyfriend would I be if I didn't help you with your problems? Besides I have this really neat method to help you revise." Steve let himself into the trailer and Eddie's room. He wasn't wearing a Green Day shirt today, but he did have a wristband, something he knew Eddie had spotted already as he walked into the room with his arms crossed.
"Right. And what method would this be?"
"Every time you get an answer right, I take off a item of clothing, and vice versa." Steve plopped himself down on the unmade bed, which he'd missed dearly. Eddie hadn't even let them take naps together in his room, insisting 'spooning almost always leads to sex with you'.
Eddie considered his offer carefully, before nodding with a shit eating grin. Steve cheered internally.
"Great!" Steve smiled before adding "Your rings all count as one item by the way." He tried not to look too smug at the way Eddie's confident grin faltered.
The game reached its boiling point very quick. Eddie had known more about Geography then Steve had expected, which reflected in the fact he only had his boxers and one sock left on. Eddie, however, wasn't doing too much better, sat in only his jeans (and Steve suspected no underwear underneath).
He's not sure who kissed who first, but suddenly Steve was pressed against the mattress, Eddie's thigh between his legs. Excitement coursed through him, his body so receptive to Eddie's touch after so long he wasn't even embarrassed at the noises he was letting out. His hips bucked up, causing Eddie to groan into his mouth.
"So the Green Day thing?" Eddie mumbled between kisses down Steve's neck. The noise Steve made was loud and high pitched, almost drowning out the man's next words. "It's over then?"
Steve paused, the hand that had been trailing down his boyfriend's chest pushed firmly against him as he pulled away.
"Over because you've let it go, right?" He mumbled. Eddie pulled back, his lips red and glossy.
"No, over because you let it go?" Steve huffed, sitting up and pulling his clothes back on. He tugged his jeans on in annoyance, storming out of the bedroom.
"You know what, I'm turning off the benefits now! No sex until you admit Green Day are better than... than Dio!" Steve yelled. He was irritated and extremely worked up but he was also incredibly stubborn. He heard a squawk of protest from behind him as he made his way outside.
"That wasn't even the rule!" Eddie called out, but Steve ignored him. He was not loosing this fight.
--
Listen, Metal music was fine, Steve endured listening to it with Eddie like he endured watching sports games with Steve. He was content in the knowledge that not loving every single one of each other's interest didn't mean they didn't love each other.
Punk was fine too, it still wasn't Steve's thing really, but it was okay and while Steve couldn't tell the difference, according to Gareth there was one. A huge one, if the way he'd been ranting about it for the past hour was anything to go by.
But between fighting with his boyfriend (because it was a genuine fight at this point), not having any sex for nearly two weeks, and being stuck listening to someone talk about something you have no interest in for hours, Steve couldn't take it anymore.
"I don't like punk music! I listen to Queen and Cyndi Lauper and sometimes Madonna and happy music that I can dance to without thinking about America's political landscape!" He blurted out. Gareth stopped his rambling about how Rob Harper was a better drummer than Pete Something, flashing Steve a confused expression.
"Then why were you pretending to?" He asked.
"I... I just didn't want you to just see me as 'Eddie's boyfriend'. I wanted to be your friend and Jeff told me you like punk music so I brought it up and..."
"Look, you are Eddie's boyfriend. Yeah, you're an okay dude, but I can acknowledge that without us having to do the whole friendship thing too, you know?" Gareth shrugged. Steve deflated.
"Right." He said, quickly making an excuse and leaving. Gareth shrugged off the weird feeling the guy's sad puppy dog eyed had given him, grabbing Steve's fries.
He felt kind of embarrassed that he'd been talking for ages with someone who didn't even care. He supposed it was nice of Steve to make the effort, Gareth wasn't aware he'd been trying so hard honestly. Jeff and Seth had warmed up to him pretty quickly but he thought that was just because they were just softies that were no immune to the 'Harrington Charm'.
"Steve?!" A loud yell startled him out of his thoughts.
Eddie stormed into the bar, wearing- holy shit, Gareth felt like he must have hit his head and started hallucinating. This day had taken such a weird turn, because there Eddie Munson stood before him decked out in a 'I heart Green Day' shirt. He also looked like it was taking every ounce of self control not to rip it off his body like it burned.
"Finally come around on the punk scene, Munson?" Gareth chortled. Eddie threw a fry at his face.
"Shut your trap, I need to find Steve before one of the gremlins sees me in this, they're too impressionable." He muttered, taking a seat as he looked around the bar.
"If this is a Steve thing you can stop anyway man, he admitted he doesn't really like them that much. It's kind of weird I mean, who lies about being into something to get someone to like them?"
"Dude, I spent the whole summer eating ice cream as a lactose intolerant person because Steve worked at Scoops Ahoy. He was just trying to find something for you to be friends about." Eddie shot him an unimpressed look, which Gareth thought was a bit high-and-mighty considering he just admitted to basically poisoning himself on a weekly basis for a guy he'd thought was straight at the time.
"Why exactly?"
"I don't know, Steve likes being close to people? He's basically besties with his ex girlfriend, man. Why are you so adamant he can't be yours?" Gareth considered this.
He remembered when Eddie had first told the band he was dating Steve Harrington. They'd all thought he was kidding, but there he was at their next rehearsal, cheering them on and spending his breaks holding Eddie's hand.
Gareth thought maybe it was a joke to Steve. Messing with the guy who likes men by making him think he has a shot with the former prom king. He thought it would end with Eddie in tears, and that had probably made him a bit more defensive than he needed to be. Maybe there was a small part of him, no matter how great Steve seemed, that still believed the guy was setting his best friend up for heartbreak.
"Look, I get that you might have reservations about him. But all I'm saying is- and I've got about a dozen preschoolers and multiple full grown adults that would back me up- Steve Harrington is a pretty great friend to have. So if he offers you friendship, you should take it." Eddie snatched a handful of fries as he got up, leaving Gareth alone at the bar.
--
Steve was half way out the door, wearing nothing but Eddie's Dio vest and grey sweatpants when he saw Eddie. He was standing in front of him, eyeing Steve like a starved man presented with a stake. Steve guessed he probably had a similar look, smiling at the Green Day shirt the man was wearing.
"Oh my god take your pants off." Eddie basically growled, slamming the front door to Steve's house shut as he stalked towards him. He pulled Steve into a ferocious kiss, hands quickly travelling down to his ass.
"Leave the shirt on." Steve gasped out. Eddie let out a muffled groan into his neck. They ran to the bedroom, loosing the vest and both of their pants on the way.
--
"Steve? You home, man?" Gareth heard a loud noise inside, followed by hopping, then Steve opened the door slightly. He was sweaty and shirtless, and his hair was a mess. He'd probably just been working out or whatever jocks did in their spare time.
"Listen, I'm sorry about what I said at the bar. You're a cool guy, I'd like for us to be friends, really. I even thought of something we could bond over; haircare. I've actually been meaning to ask you for some tips anyway." He admitted. Steve beamed, Gareth was almost scared the incredibly sweaty man was about to pull him into a hug. He didn't, he just kept smiling.
"That's real nice for you two, maybe next he'll ask you to prom!" Eddie's voice rang out from somewhere behind the door. Steve flushed a little and hushed him. Gareth was kind of confused as to why Eddie voice sounded so coarse and breathless, he didn't think Eddie had ever voluntarily exercised in his life.
"I would really like that, Gareth. I'll tell you everything you need to know, come by anytime. Except right now." He smiled again before slamming the door. Gareth heard more noises inside, wondering what the fuck they were up to until he heard a loud moan. Oh God, Gareth started running.
Still, he couldn't help but smile. It was always nice to make more friends.

Tumblr media
You anxiously paced around the living room of your shared house with Wanda.  She was en route back after dropping the boys off at Vision’s for the weekend.  The quiet hour you had to yourself was spent setting up the latest in a long line of birthday gifts for your girlfriend.  It was your way of making up for all the ones her ex had forgotten: how anyone could ignore Wanda on her birthday was incomprehensible.  She insisted that you didn’t need to spoil her, arguing that you didn’t need to make up for Vision’s shortcomings.  You ignored her.  It was the first time in your life you had a woman to spoil and you were planning on taking full advantage of that.
The gifts started small: cooking her favorite dinner on Monday for no reason, surprising her with her favorite flowers on Tuesday, the new end table she’d been talking about for months on Wednesday, and a long after dinner massage on Thursday.  Wanda wasn’t used to such thoughtful displays of kindness.  Yet you were determined to make sure she had the best birthday yet, which is why you saved the best for last.  This was the present you knew she wouldn’t be expecting at all.  It’s the one she mentioned in passing once not realizing how you’d cling onto it for the last few months.  It was the most expensive of the gifts.  And it was the most…scandalous…of the gifts.
The sound of the front door unlocking snapped you back to reality.  Your heart pounded in your throat, threatening to explode out of your body entirely as seconds turned to minutes turned to hours as you waited for Wanda to walk down the hallway.
“Virginia’s over for the weekend.  She brought the kids with her, too.  I know Billy gets along with Vin well enough, but Tommy really doesn’t care for him or Viv.  And I don’t understand why the V names.  Could they not come up with anything else?” Wanda frequently voiced her disdain for her ex-husband’s new girlfriend and her kids.  While you knew that she was happy and secure in your relationship, you also knew that the topic of her failed marriage was a sore subject.
“The boys’ll be fine, Wands.  It’s just for the weekend.”
“I know.”
“They’ve gotta get used to being around Virginia and the kids.”
“I know.”
“That means we have the weekend to ourselves.”
“I know,” Wanda smirked.
“I have a present for you.”
“Y/N, no.  You’ve already gotten-” “It’s downstairs.”
Wanda’s mouth snapped shut abruptly as she looked at you, a curious expression painted on her face.
“Follow me?” you asked as you offered her your hand.  You smirked knowingly as Wanda sighed, dropping her hands into your outstretched one.
“You know, you don’t have to spoil me like this just because it’s my birthday.  Really, it’s okay.”
“I want to make up for all those ones that Vision missed or forgot or whatever…plus this one is for both of us.”
“What do you mean-oh.”  Wanda’s eyes widened as she stared at the hanging mess of nylon and leather straps hanging from the heavy bag hook on the ceiling.  “Oh my god.”
“You like it?” you chuckled, giving Wanda’s hand a slight squeeze.
“Oh my god,” she repeated.  You felt her hand slip from yours as she carefully made her way over to the middle of the room.  Wanda brushed a strand of hair behind her ear as she eyed the set-up with a keen sense of curiosity.
“Now if you really don’t want another gift, I can always take it back,” you teased, cheekily shoving your hands in your pockets, watching Wanda stare awestruck at the swing in the middle of the room.
“Don’t you dare,” Wanda warned.  “Where on earth did you find one of these?” she asked, reaching up to run her fingers through the straps.
“A magician never reveals his secrets.”
She gave you a look.
“The internet.  Some website.  Google suggested it.”
Wanda’s look turned into a smirk.  The nylon straps danced through her fingers as she continued to examine her newest present.  You felt your heart slowly creeping up your throat the longer you stared at the straps twirling through your girlfriend’s fingers.
“You remembered.”
“Wanda, how could I forget?”  Your heart threatened to burst out the side of your neck as blood rushed through every part of your body.
“And this is why you wanted the boys to stay with Vision this weekend?” “Do you want to keep asking questions or do you want to try it out?”
Her lips crashed into yours before you could get another thought out.  Instinctively your hands found their way to her waist, pulling her body flush against yours.  She sighed into your mouth, her soft hands gently tugging at your hair.  No matter how many times you did it, kissing Wanda never got old.  Each kiss was a new experience, a new sensation that you perpetually craved.  She was the most entrancing woman in the entire world and she was all yours.
“So how does this work?” Wanda asked breathlessly as you nibbled on the sensitive spot under her jaw.
“Dunno,” you mumbled between kisses, your grip on Wanda tightening as soon as you felt her swoon ever so slightly.  “I think it’s pretty self-explanatory.”
“This won’t fall down, right?” she asked.  Her hands trailed down from your head to the buttons at the front of your shirt.  You shook your head, recoiling slightly as you felt her cold hands brush your chest as she tore at your clothes.
“Hope not.”  You undid the button on her jeans, your fingers slinking inside the waistband.
“Hope not?”
“I mean it should be good.  Don’t see why it wouldn’t be.”
Wanda chuckled as she shook her head.  She knew that you would’ve double and triple checked to make sure the swing wouldn’t fall down the second she got into it.
“So how do I get in?  Do I just-?”
“I think you just sit back into it and put your legs in the straps,” you replied, stepping out of your jeans and boxers and kicking them behind you.
Wanda, now in her long sleeve shirt and panties, carefully looked behind her as she grabbed the leather support straps and allowed herself to sink into the swing.  She fell back with an emphatic oomph, tentatively repositioning herself as the two of you prayed she wouldn’t immediately come crashing down.
“How is it?” you asked, slinking over to the swing and positioning yourself between her legs.
“It’s actually pretty comfortable,” she observed.  “Can you help me get my legs up?”
“Yeah, but let’s get these off first,” you replied, teasing the palm of your hand between her legs.  Wanda whimpered at your touch, a jolt of excitement running through her body as her hips bucked into your hand.  You smirked at her as you pulled off the lace garment, tossing it over your shoulder.  “Leg.”
Wanda lifted her leg up as you grabbed the extended stirrup, guiding her foot through the loop so that her leg sat bent against the swing.  You gently grabbed her other leg unprompted, guiding it to the same position.
“I am definitely going to feel that tomorrow,” Wanda joked.  She reached one hand forward and grabbed your cock.
“Oh yeah?” you stifled a slight groan as she began to pump her hand up and down your length.
“I’ve already got that bad hip, Y/N.  Let’s see how much more damage you can do.”
You felt yourself twitch under her grip, hardening as you rocked into her hand.  Luckily you were able to grab the metal bar at the top of the swing to steady yourself.
“You okay there?” she teased.  You groaned in response, leaning forward to capture her lips between yours.  She smiled into the kiss, knowing full well the intoxicating effect she had on you.
“You gonna keep distracting me or are you gonna let me-?”
“If you don’t put that inside me soon I may actually die.”
“Somebody’s dramatic.” “It’s my birthday, I can be as dramatic as I want today.”
“Is that so?” You grabbed the base of your cock, positioning yourself against her entrance.
“Mmhmm,” she nodded.
Instead of pushing yourself inside her, you rubbed your head against her folds, coating yourself in the wetness that was pooling between her legs.  Wanda threw her head back and groaned.  She gripped the straps tightly as you teased her, dipping the tip inside briefly before pulling out and sliding around her clit.
“Is this what you wanted, Wands?”
“Y/N, please,” she pleaded in a tone that was uncharacteristically whiny.
With little warning, you pressed yourself into Wanda, her slick folds parting with ease as you buried your length inside her.  The feeling of her warm, wet walls around you elicited a groan from the deepest part of your core.
“Oh my god,” Wanda groaned, her eyes rolling back as you entered her at an entirely new angle for the first time.  “Baby, oh my god.”
“That okay?” you asked.
“Move,” she ordered as she screwed her eyes shut.
You didn’t need to be told twice.  Taking a firm grip on the straps, you rolled your hips into her.  The moan that erupted from her lips was pornographic.  Her body strained and tightened as your cock rubbed against the most sensitive part of her walls.  She squeezed against you as you thrust in and out, forcing you to work harder than normal.
“Fuck,” you gasped, biting your lip as Wanda’s wetness engulfed you over and over again.
“Right there, Y/N, don’t stop,” Wanda begged.  Her hand came up to rest against your stomach as you picked up your pace, pounding into her slick pussy as you pulled the swing toward you.
“You feel so good, Wands.”
“I love the way your cock feels inside me, baby.  You always-fuck, that’s the spot right there-” Wanda let out a groan, unable to finish her thought as you pulled against the swing, changing the angle ever so slightly.
“You like that?” you gritted through clenched teeth, attempting to stave off your impending orgasm.
“I’m close,” she whimpered, arching her back against the swing.  “Keep going, just like that.”
“Wanda, I’m gonna cum,” you whined.  “Should I pull-”
“Inside.  Please.  Fill me up.  I want to feel you finish inside me.”
Wanda’s words drove you over the edge.  You groaned loudly as you came inside her, painting her with your seed.  The sensation of being filled with your cum sent Wanda over the edge, too.  She moaned your name over and over as you filled her up, squeezing every last drop from you.
The two of you came down from your highs in a sweaty tangle of naked bodies and leather and nylon.  You collapsed on top of her, panting into her chest as your legs buckled under the ecstasy of your orgasm.  Wanda leaned back, rubbing her hands through her hair as she struggled to control her breathing.
“Best birthday present ever,” she panted.  “I am so sending the boys to Vision’s more often.”
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.  I don’t think it’s possible for us to use this quietly,” you chuckled.  “I’ve never heard you moan like that before.”
“That’s because you just gave me the best orgasm I’ve ever had.”
“So what I’m hearing is I need to cum inside you more often.”
“What you’re hearing is I need you to have your way with me in this swing more often.”
“Round two then?” you quipped.
“You’re on.”

more pre-outbreak joel hcs because this man takes up every square inch of my mind<33
. let’s be real he lives for sports, joel is the type of guy to invite tommy and all his friends over js to watch the “big game” (and he’s manning that barbecue 100% and doesn’t let anyone get near it, it’s just him cooking on it and he ends up missing half the game because of it but oh well)
. the driest fucking texter on the face of the earth i swear, his number one response to almost any message you send is just 👍 and then he’s confused later on when you assume that he’s upset
“are you mad at me?”
his head turns to your direction, brows furrowed and raised, “what?”
“are you mad at me?” you repeat, fingers fiddling with the hem of your shirt as you look at him.
he hesitates for a moment, like he’s almost about to ask if you’re mad at him. “no, sweets, i ain’t mad. why would i be mad at you?” he drawls, turning to face you fully.
“cause earlier when i told you i was gonna be home later you just replied with a thumbs up. you didn’t say anything else.”
“oh not this again- “
. WAS THE BIGGEST HISTORY NERD IN SCHOOL, ik that boy knew anything and everything if you asked him. history was the one subject he had straight a’s from no joke. remembers years and numbers like he was born for it, it’s srsly fascinating.
“napoleon bonaparte died which year?” the voice of the host of the game show booms from the tv. your eyes are flickering over the answers on the screen as you look away from your book for a second.
“may 5th, 1821,” joel mutters, his head comfortably settled in your lap as you card your fingers through his hair.
it makes you frown down at him, scoffing softly before you look back at the screen.
“1840,” the contestant replies and the buzzer practically defeans you, indicating that it’s the wrong answer.
“a couple years off there, Roger,” the host chuckles, flashing that unnatural white-teeth smile to the man, “napoleon died on the 5th of may, 1821”
and joel is chuckling in your lap, patting your thigh in victory as he watches your dropped jaw.
“i was a history buff in high school, what can i say?”
. i also feel like joel would’ve actually been a pretty smart kid (we don’t talk about him thinking the rover in the museum in tlou2 was the real one from mars), i also definitely think he went to music high school parallel with normal high school (he was a band kid through and through you can’t convince me otherwise). hardworking, smart, a bit of a goody-two-shoes if you squint, would’ve probably gone off to a decent college/university if it wasn’t for sarah’s appearance (wrap it before you tap it kids!!)
. type of guy to scoff whenever people say their favorite holiday is valentine’s day but you know damn well he’s got it marked on his calendar so he can remember to buy you some nice flowers and take you out to some fancy date (and fuck the shit out of you when you get home but that’s a whole other story). you tease him about it every year but he just brushes it off (his cheeks are red and he has to clear his throat bcs he himself knows it’s true and he’s too much of a gentleman to fully deny it)
literally the loml it’s critical atp<33

London
warnings- Fluff, being cold, Tom being a gentleman, mean and kinda sexist reporters
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tom had invited you to come with him on his world tour for TBOSAS and of course you couldn’t say no. The two of you had been dating for over a year and a half and you had adopted a puppy. You both loved and spoiled your little baby puppy with all the love in the world, and you knew she couldn’t go a long time without her daddy. And honestly neither could you, so of course you said yes.
Tom was so excited to take you to London and show you part of his home country. And of course you were exited too. Not only was Tom letting you come with you on his world tour, but you got to go to London for the first time with your lover. Your London Boy. (Okay, sure he’s not actually from London, but a little Taylor Swift reference never killed anyone)
💜💜💜
You were sitting on the plane with the rest of the cast while Lady (your new puppy) was asleep on your chest as you held her up. She really was the cutest thing you’ve ever seen.
“How are my girls doing?” Tom asked, sitting down next to you.
“Great.” You smiled, tilting your head up for a kiss. Tom chuckled but pecked your lips. “I think Lady while be happy to see you when she wakes up.”
“I think she will to.” Tom smiled, wrapping his arm around you, pulling you into his side.
“I’m glad we got her,” you smiled, resting your head on Tom’s chest.
“Me too my love. Me too.” Tom smiled, kissing your head.
“How cold is it there? Do you think she’ll be able to handle it? I bought her a cute little sweater but I still don’t know.”
“Love, I’m sure you’ll be fine. We can keep her warm.”
“Okay,” you breathed. You felt a shift in your arms and paws pressed to your chest. You looked down and saw your little Lady looking at you with big, tired eyes. “Hi, my darling!” You smiled, brining her up to kiss her head. “Look who’s back!”
“Hi, my darling,” Tom smiled, looking down at her.
Lady quickly tried to jump out of your arms and to Tom. You both smiled as you watched her trying to climb her way off your chest.
“Come here darling,” Tom chuckled, carefully taking her from you and holding her to his chest as she attacked his face in licks.
“Someone missed her daddy.” You chuckled, pulling on Tom’s purple flower jumper (as he called it)
💜💜💜
You were holding Lady to your chest as everyone got off the plane and said their goodbyes.
You shirked as a gust of wind hit you. “Tommy it’s freezing!” You let out as you let Lady shaking in your arms. “We should get a cab, our poor baby is freezing.”
“Okay, my love. I’ll get us a cab, just keep our Little Lady warm.”
He didn’t have to tell you twice. You quickly tucked Lady in between your shirt and Tom’s jumper. “Is that better honey?” You asked, kissing her head. “Daddy’s gonna get us a cab.”
💜💜💜
You were walking around London with Lady in Tom’s arms to keep her warm and Tom’s pink trench coat on you to keep you warm. It was big on him and extremely oversized on you. (So I’m 4’11 and done growing:( so in my mind readers a lot smaller. Sorry guys) But truth be told neither you nor Lady cared because you were both warm and with Tom. He had a big smile on his face as he showed you around London.

Hot new couple The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes actor Tom Blyth and singer, song writer, actress, and author Y/N Y/N/N were spotted sightseeing in London with there new addition. Y/N looks rather warm in her oversized male coat.
💜💜💜
Your car came to a stop and Tom opened the door. You heard the people shouting and the cameras flashing. Tom got out and reached for your hand. You thankfully took it and looked at Lady wrapped in your arm. She looked terrified as she saw everything. You felt bad, but you also didn’t want to leave her alone. She was so young and your little girl, you couldn’t let her stay alone in the hotel.
“It’s okay, my love.” You whispered, kissing her head as you and Tom made your way to the carpet. “We’re gonna support daddy.”
“Oh, darling, don’t worry.” Tom cooed, taking her from you, smoothing down her little dress. “It’s okay, they’re not going to hurt you. They’re going to take pictures of us, and ask me and Mummy some questions. We’ll be with you the whole time my darling.”
“Do you think we should have left her?” You asked, looking up at Tom.
“I think she needs to be with us. She’s still a baby.” Tom let out, keeping one arm wrapped around Lady, holding her tightly to his chest, the other arm wrapped around your waist, holding you close.
“Tom! Y/N!” Reporters yelled, trying to get your attention.
“Y/N what’s it like coming on the tour even though you’re not in the cast?”
“Oh,” you let out, taken aback at the rather harsh comment. “Well, I mean, everyone is super loving and supportive. And Rachel is my best friend so I was already coming to see them, and then after Tom and I started dating I was always on set, so it doesn’t feel any different honestly.”
“I see. So the two of you must have been dating for a while now.”
“Yeah. Over a year and a half actually.”
“So when will you two be expecting?”
“I-I’m sorry?” You stammered, really taken aback. But thankfully you had your night in shining armor right there for you.
“Kids have not been talked about yet,” Tom cut in, trying his best to keep his cool. “If and when Y/N and I want to have kids we will talk about it in our own time. That discussion is only between me and her, not for anyone else.” He looked down at you and kissed your head. “Come on my love, let’s keep going.”
“Thank you.” You whispered, once you were away from that reporter.
“Of course my love. I’m so sorry. He had no right to talk to you like that.”
“Tommy,” you sighed. “Unfortunately that’s just how things are for women in this industry. We mainly only get to talk about things like our hair and clothes and if we’re going to have kids one day.”
“Well, I don’t think it should be like that at all. You should have every right to talk about your work just as much as everyone.”
“I know. Thank you, Tommy, but unfortunately not everyone sees it that way.” You explained as a shiver ran down your body.
“What’s wrong?” He asked, placing his free hand on your bare shoulder. “You geese, you’re freezing.”
“I’m fine. It’s not that bad.” You lied. “How’s Lady? Is she warm enough?”
“Lady’s fine. But I’m worried about you my love. Why didn’t you bring a coat?”
“I don’t know.” You honestly answered. “I guess I didn’t think I’d need one.”
“Lady,” Tom said to Lady who was wrapped up in his arm. “I’m going to give you to Mummy, okay?”
Tom handed her to you and you held her as Tom started taking off his coat.
“But what about you?” You asked.
“I’m fine love. I grew up in this kind of weather.” He explained, wrapping his coat around your shoulders.
“Thank you.”
💜💜💜
You held Lady to your chest as you wrapped her up in Tom’s coat with you, as you watched him do interviews with a proud smile on your face.
“You ready my loves?” Tom asked, walking back up to you and Lady.
“Only if you are.” You smiled.
Tom kissed you and smiled, wrapping his arm around your waist. “I’m ready. Everyone else is inside.”
“Do you think the movie will be to violent for her?” You asked, looking down at the little puppy nuzzled up between Tom’s coat and your dress, looking up at you and Tom with so much love in her little eyes.
“I think she’ll be fine.” He smiled.

Wayne leaned against the railing on his back porch, elbows resting on the old wood with a cigarette dangling between his lips. He chuckled every now and then at the scene set in front of him. All of hellfire was in his backyard, shirts off with bright, sunburned skin as they played in the neighbors hose, colorful swimming shorts that stood out like a sore thumb. They stuck big long trash bags to the wet grass, making a slip n slide’ to entertain themselves in the 96 degree weather.
What was most amusing to the man was, however, was how differently his nephew treated you than everyone else. He watched you scream and carry about as Mike directly sprayed the water in your face, Eddie picking you up by the thighs to toss you both down the slippery tarp. He knew damn well that you were both head over heels in love with each other, especially Eddie. He’d tried time and time again to get him to talk about it, but the boy always turned beat red and chalked it up to nothing.
Grass stuck to your bodies, glued to your torsos from sweat and water. You were wearing a bikini, and your skin was marked red from how many times Eddie manhandled you and tossed you both down the hill. Your stomach hurt from how much you were laughing, the kind of laugh where you got stuck in silence and almost broke your insides.
Summer vacation was here, and it was hotter than hell, so Dustin had brilliantly came up with the idea for the trash bags and water hose. Even some of the neighbor kids waddled over in their swimsuits and rubber duckies. Tommy, his five year old neighbor, dragged his plastic kiddy pool over and filled it up. The Munson backyard was filled with life, and it warmed Wayne’s heart to see the sight.
“Look at my knees, you asshole!” You a screeched through laughter, pointing down to your red, scratched knees. “You’re gonna kill me if you don’t quit throwing my down this mountain!”
He sputtered our laughter, slipping on wet grass as he tried to stand up. “It’s- oh, god, it’s hardly a mountain, y/n.” He panted, hair sticking to his firm chest and making swirling designs. “Wanna go again?”
“My turn! My turn!” The little neighbor girls chanted, running up to Eddie with open arms. You laughed and stepped back, ushering Eddie to play with them first.
He wiggled his brows at you and clapped his hands, gathering the girls in his arms before he started down the slippery slope. You screamed again when Lucas sprayed you with the highest mode of the hose, backing away quickly as you threw a plastic floaty at his face.
You couldn’t see him, but from down below the hill, Eddie’s eyes had morphed into hearts, watching you. You looked absolutely beautiful, soaking wet and covered in clips of grass and mud. The kids pulled at his arms trying to get him to play with them, but he couldn’t look away from your beauty. He was mesmerized, and Wayne smirked, not missing the action.
Everyday he fought urge to kiss your lips, to tell you just how much you meant to him, how often you visited his dreams, but it was too complicated. You were best friends, and he was terrified of ruining what you had, and so were you. You both were too damn awkward to express your feelings.
Hours later when the sun began to set, the neighbor kids went home and so did the hellfire crew, besides you. You helped clean up the yard and made sure the kids got home safely with their toys, cleaning up the trash that Mike kept forgetting to throw away. Eddie helped, but his eyes always scanned over your figure, not being able to help himself. You stole your own glances, too, dazing off at the smooth, toned muscles of his chest that were scuffed in dirt.
“You kids hungry?” Wayne stepped outside to the back porch, beer in hand with a cigarette behind his ear. “I ordered a pizza. Y/n, why don’t you stay for dinner, hmm?”
You smiled, panting out a breath from the work your did, wringing out a beach towel in your hair. “Sure! You think maybe I could use your shower?”
“You know where it’s at.” He nodded toward the door, setting down on a lawn chair and kicking his legs out.
“Hey, Eddie!” You turned, calling over to him as he rolled the hose back up to return. “Can I borrow some of your clothes? I’m gonna take a shower!”
He almost dropped the damn thing, growing hot at the idea of you in his clothes. “Oh- oh, yeah! Sure!”
Wayne rolled his eyes. You disappeared inside the trailer, leaving the boys to themselves, and the older man watched with an amused look as Eddie trodded up to the porch. “So,” He raised a brow. “You had a nice day, huh?”
Eddie stopped immediately, eyes narrowing in curiosity. “Yeah? What’s that..that look for?” Water dripped from his hair, big puddles staining the wood beneath his bare feet.
“Nothin’.” Wayne shrugged his shoulders. “Just like watching a damn romance movie when you’re round’ each other, is all.”
“Shh, shh!” Eddie panicked, flapping his hands in a rush. “Jesus- Wayne, come on!”
The older man laughed, holding up his hand in apology. “Okay, okay, sorry. Shit, kid, you don’t hide it very well, though. Them boys were whisperin’ all day about how you kept starin’ at her.”
“Who?” His eyes widened, stepping closer to his uncle. “Was if that shithead Wheeler? I swear to god, I’m gonna ring his neck.” He gritted his teeth, taking a shallow breath.
“He’s one of ‘em, yeah.” Wayne nodded, taking a quick sip of his beer. “Him and that Henderson kid. They got a point though, bud. You’re both clearly crazy about each other.”
Eddie gulped, freezing at his words. He always grew extremely uncomfortable when he talked about you..well, potentially sharing feelings. It scared him too badly to think about it. He knew he could never act on them. It wasn’t worth the risk, was it? He couldn’t risk ruining what the two of you had. He loved you too much for it.
“Shut up, old man.” He grumbled, plopping himself down on the porch step, placing his head in his hands. He sighed with the weight of the world on his shoulders.
“Come on, don’t freak out.” Wayne smirked, noticing the shortening of his breath. It had been a while since the boy had a panic attack, but it didn’t take much to overwhelm him. “I just don’t get why you’re so scared to talk to her.”
Eddie groaned into his hands, the night cold against his wet, exposed skin. He reached out to grab your pink towel, wrapping it around his torso. “Because we can’t be more than friends.”
“I didn’t know you could read the future.”
“Wayne,” He pleaded desperately, running his hands through his wet curls. “Drop it, already.” He fiddled with the rings on his fingers, biting the inside of his cheek in attempt to ease his frustrations.
“Okay, bud,” His uncle sighed amusedly. “Sorry.”
A total of thirty seconds passed.
“You want me to tell her?”
“Oh, my god, Wayne!” Eddie wailed, turning around to glare at him.
“Well, shit,” His uncle scoffed, holding up his hands. “It’s getting old watching the two of you stare into each other’s eyes all…all romantic and crap.”
“We don’t!” He jumped up. “We..we don’t!”
“Okay, okay, just…tell my why you’re so scared of telling her how you feel, huh?” Wayne sighed, widening his eyes in close frustration. Eddie may have been twenty years old, but he acted like he was seven.
“Because!” He groaned, flinging water in every direction. “Because, Wayne! She’s my..she’s my best friend. She might not feel the same way and I- I can’t risk loosing her. She’s too important to me.”
It was like talking to a brick wall, and Wayne knew that no matter how much he tried to persuade him to open up to you, it would be damn near impossible. That was just how Eddie was. He was an over-thinker. Wayne knew that better than anybody.
“Can I say one more thing?” He sat up, resting his elbows on his knees, placing down his beer bottle. “Then I’m silent. Swear.”
Eddie rolled his eyes, leaning against the railing. “You are whether I wanna hear it or not, so sure.” He squeezed his eyes shut, pinching the bridge between his nose.
“Listen, kid, I love ya’,” Wayne raised his brows, smirking subtly. “But, you’re a damn mess, you know that? I raised you, so I can say it. All I’m saying is that…well, you’ve never had a girl in hellfire before she came along. You never even hung out with girls. Remember that kid who punched you in middle school when you tried to kiss her?” He chuckled, warning a cringed look from Eddie. “She feels the same way, bub. Trust me. I’m old, so you have to. We all know she does.” Wayne stood up and gave his nephew a reassuring squeeze before he went inside, leaving him alone to his thoughts.
Maybe his uncle was right, but that didn’t change anything, did it? It wasn’t worth the risk. He loved you too much for it. He’d rather have you as a best friend than to not have you at all, even if it meant he’d be living a lie.
“You should stay the night.” Eddie said to you over his shoulder, peeking out of his bedroom curtain. “Looks like rain. You shouldn’t drive.”
“It’s only rain.” You smiled, flipping through one of his dirty magazines on his bed.
“Yeah, but still,” He pursed his lips. “I’d feel better if you stad.” He turned to look at you, and smirked coyly at the sight of you holding his beloved copy of busty ladies. “Find something you like?”
You chuckled and shrugged. “Was just curious.” You said before tossing it to the end of the bed, smiling up at him. You were wearing his black sweats and his red, corroded coffin tee, hair still slightly damp from your shower. Eddie no longer was covered in grass clippings anymore, now wearing great sweatpants, his chest bare and muscular. His hair was dry and frizzy above the muscles, eyes slightly red rimmed from the joint he’d been smoking.
“I’ll stay.” You blinked tiredly, curling up with his soft blanket.
He hummed, satisfied with your answer. “Good.” He muttered, crawling on the bed up to where you were, settling back on a pillow against the headboard. “Smoke?” He offered you the joint.
You rolled onto your back, neck propped up from the pillow. You took the joint from his slender fingers, taking a small inhale and closing your eyes. You passed it back to him.
“Today was fun.” You blinked slowly, relaxed. The room was glowing in a soft, orange tone from his bedside lamp. You always loved sleeping over.
“It was.” He agreed, resting an arm behind his head. “Kids wore me out, though. Kept throwing those stupid toys at me.”
You giggled, chest vibrating with the sound. “They like you.”
“Everyone likes me.” He looked at you smugly, and you smacked his shoulder playfully.
“Uh, huh.” You scoffed, taking the joint back and placing it between your pink lips. “You’re a real casanova.”
He narrowed his eyes at the foreign word, giving you a weird look. “Casanova? What’s that mean?”
You past the blunt back and rolled your head to the side to look him in the eye, snorting once in his face. “A charmer.”
He smirked. “So you think I’m charming, huh?”
His high eyes twinkled in orange glow. He looked angelic, and it almost made you sad more a moment. He was so insecure of himself, despite what he said. You only wished he knew how beautiful he was. You wished he knew how much you loved him. But you’d never be more than friends.
“It also means a man who has a lot of lovers.” You raised a brow, smiling coyly.
He squinted his eyes, lips parting. “What makes you think I have a lover?”
You gave him a deadpanned look. “Eddie. You have a whole stack of porn under your bed I pretend isn’t there. I’m sure you have a few ladies around town that you like.”
He widened his eyes slightly, giving you an incredulous look. “If I wasn’t mistaken, y/n…I’d say you just called me a whore.”
You laughed and rolled your eyes. “No, I did not call you a whore. I’m just joking you big baby.”
He smiled at your smile, nodding. “Whatever, baby.”
You both giggled until a comfortable silence ensued, the high slowly making you tired. You yawned quietly, turning to face him and curling up against the pillow. He did the same, only a foot of length between your shoulders. You stared at each other with red eyes. “I hope I don’t have any nightmares tonight.” You said softly.
You were prone to them, always had been. Eddie knew this. He also knew that they weren’t as bad when you had someone with you. He closed the distance by wrapping an arm around your back, pulling you into his chest and cuddling you. You nuzzled your face underneath his neck, hand placed on his waist. He pulled the quilt blanket up to your shoulders, hand softly playing with your hair. “I’ll be here if you need me. Try and sleep.”
There was so much more he wanted to say.
For some reason unbeknownst to him, Eddie was awake four hours later, the room pitch black besides the white glow that the moon peeked through the curtains on the window. Your body was pressed against his ever so tightly, limbs entertained with blankets tangled at your meet. You must have gotten hot, he figured.
He was staring at you, studying and memorizing all the details of your face while he could. He knew this wasn’t right, feeling the way he did about you, but he couldn’t help it. It was driving him crazy. He wanted to love you with everything he had, but nothing was worth the risk of losing you. You were too precious to him.
And for some reason, yet again, unbeknownst to him, your eyes fluttered. He stilled fearfully, but it wasn’t quick enough. Your lids open, but you did not jump away from the pair of brown eyes that were glued on your face. You smiled softly, and Eddie wondered if you were actually awake. Your fingers twitched up and you wrapped a digit around a dark curl, tugging on it lightly.
He swallowed roughly. “Are you awake?”
“Mhm.” You said hoarsely, eyes still blinking sleepily. Your nosed almost touched by the tips, just barely, and he gulped at how…how intimate this felt.
Maybe it was the fact you were extremely tired, but you couldn’t help but stare at him, just like he was doing with you. Maybe it even made you feel confident. You had the urge to look at his lips. Eddie’s heart started to race, feeling guilty for looking at you with such longing, but he couldn’t look away. Your faces melted away with the comfort you had just felt, morphing into…nervousness and…lust.
He took his hand off your back, gulping as he tried to pull away. “Don’t.” You said meekly, making his eyes widen.
“Don’t?” His voice was unsure.
You blinked nervously, licking your lips. “I like..I-I like when you hold me.”
His heart dropped to his toes, face burning red. His eyes scanned yours, switching back and forth. “You do?”
You nodded.
Staring at his hand in mid air, he slowly, slowly placed his hand back to the plates of your shoulder blades, your knees pressing together. “Like this?” He kept looking at your nose, not being able to hold your stare.
“Yeah.” You whispered. “Yeah, like that.”
He was so pretty. You could stare at him forever. During hellfire meetings you always got caught in daydreams just watching him sit in his throne. At school you got caught multiple times by teachers just ogling him. Your heart would swell ten times larger at his wide smile, the way his shoulders would brush against yours in the cafeteria line. You wished so many times to hold his hand, to build up enough courage.
But you could never be more than friends. It just wouldn’t work. You were too awkward to pursue such a thing, and Eddie- well, there was no way he felt the same way. Did he? If you were honest with yourself, some unconscious part of yourself knew. It was just too obvious, but you were in denial.
It was painful how much you loved him, and it pained you that it couldn’t be anything more.
“Hey,” He noticed the pull down of your lips, eyes misting over your irises, and his eyes narrowed. “What’s wrong?”
Had you had a nightmare?
You shook your head and looked down embarrassed. “Nothing.”
He saw a single tear fall past your lid, and he looked at you unsurely. “Y/n,” He dipped his head down to level with you.
You wanted to kiss him so bad it was making you cry.
His thumb lifted your chin and brought your shiny eyes up to his chocolate ones, flickering over your face for evidence of what was wrong. He waited for you to say something.
“It’s stupid.” You gulped bashfully, not able to hold his stare.
“Tell me.” He said gently, hand dropping to your shoulder.
All sense of nerves from him went away at the sight of your discomfort, and it was only you that was left feeling uneasy and scared. “I’m afraid of what you’ll say.” You sniffled, and his eyes narrowed slightly, lips parting.
You were terrified of loosing him. Was it worth it? To lean over and kiss him? Was just one little peck worth loosing him? Was it worth ruining what you had? It wasn’t. You had to be stronger than that.
A loud clap of thunder made you jump clean out of your skin, whimpering under your breath that made his heart shake. “Hey, hey, it’s okay.” He closed the distance and wrapped his arm back around you, pulling you close to his chest.
You buried yourself as close as you could to him, allowing yourself to shed quiet tears that he couldn’t see, though he could feel them against his bare chest. “Just a storm.”
Storms didn’t even scare you, but tonight you were extremely worked up. The feeling of your soft breath warmed his pale skin, and your fingers lightly traced the shape of the tattoo on his chest. His chin laid against your shoulder, hand against the back of your hair and stroking your locks comfortingly. Soft rain hit the tin rough, calming your anxieties and allowing you to relax against him.
And as more seconds melted away, the more aware you were of the position you were in. You stiffened slightly in his arms and he felt it, making him aware of the close proximity. Your eyes locked, pulling away ever so slowly, audibly gulps and nervous licks of the lips, fingers freezing on bare skin. Your breath started to come out in pants.
Wayne’s words started to run through his head, like a loud alarm that he couldn’t turn off.
“I’m afraid of what you’ll say, too.” He whispered, words soft against your ears as he blinked across from your, his eyes still slightly red from his previous high.
“What do you mean?” You squinted in the dark.
He took a breath. “What I’m thinking about.” It came out in mumbles, twirling the fabric of your shirt between his middle and index fingers.
You looked down at your fingers that rested just below his hipbone, picking at your skin nervously. He could feel your knuckles barely ghost over his navel. Years and years of silence was what you both held, a heavy secret that weighed greatly on your shoulders.
“I’ll tell you if you’ll tell me.” Eddie cleared his throat, the words coming out despite really wanting to be spoken or not.
Your eyes widened slightly, peeking up at him, the tips of your noses touching, your hips against his own. “I- okay.” You stuttered.
A single minute passed. You staring at him, and him staring at you, hearts in your throats and stomachs bubbling with nerves. Eddie thought he was going to pass out, and he had the urge to get up and run away in the thundering rain. As much as he wanted to kiss your lips, he was too afraid, so he did the only thing he could think of.
He took his hand from your shoulder blades, bringing it between the two of you. He took his index and middle finger and pressed them to his lips, puckering just ever so slightly. Keeping his eyes on you, he placed them on yours, making your breath hitch in your throat. He kept them there for just a few seconds before sliding them down your chin and to your neck.
“Was- uh, was that okay?” He said breathlessly, staring at his ringed fingers against your neck.
“Yeah.” You nodded, gulping audibly, heart pounding in your ears. You wanted to burst into tears, honestly. You weren’t sure what you had planned to do, but you found yourself pulling back up his hand, placing the fingers back to your lips. You kept eye contact, placing a soft, delicate kiss to the tips. His lips parted, and you opened your mouth very subtle, your teeth grazing his callused pads. “Is this okay?” You blinked hazily.
He nodded quicker than you had. “Uh- yeah.”
The movements of your lips came to abrupt, and you choked on a breath. The room filled with a tension that you had not met before.
Sexual tension.
His thumb went to your jaw, and through some will of his own, he pushed his middle finger into your mouth, and he gasped when the tip hit your tongue, making you stifle out a moan.
Your eyes both tripled in size, face burning immediately red. Oh, god. He felt his cock harden underneath his sweatpants, and he began to panic slightly, knowing damn well you could feel it against your thigh. And then it was like you’d both been switched on with frenzy.
Eddie couldn’t help it. He pressed his soft, thick lips against your own. The desire was too strong. It was no where near as…messy and sloppy as he imagined. He didn’t have enough courage for that. It was just a hard, forceful peck that made your noses scrunch together, your body pushing back slightly at his weight.
You gasped when he pulled away, eyes blinking rapidly and lustfully. Your stomach tightened at his taste, and you reached up, as he was know slightly above you, and pulled him back atop of you. Your arms wrapped around his broad shoulders, and his forehead collided with yours as your lips attached once again. It was more forceful, needy this time, and he rolled you both over so he could tower of you. His curls hung above your cheekbones, settling his legs between your thighs. His hands cupped your cheeks, and it was like you both sucked the soul out of one another.
Lips nipped and bit, tongues licked and danced. Your teeth cracked together. You were whining into the kiss because it just felt so good.
“Oh, god,” He groaned into your mouth, tilting your chin up to kiss you deeper. You were eating each other alive. “I love you so much. Fuck- fuck, I love you, baby.”
You nodded against him, wrapping your legs around his waist. “Oh, I- Eddie, I love you.” You pushed your pelvic bone against his cock, whimpering at the euphoric feeling against your virgin body. “I love you. I love you.”
Breath was hot against your faces, and before you could make any further moves, the sound of Wayne’s alarm blared from the living room, making you both still immediately. You both gasped and pulled away, looking at each other with wide eyes. It was like you’d been dunked with cold water, and you blushed three million shades deeper than your pale complexion.
Eddie strained his ears, listening as he heard the sound of his uncle’s boots against the floor. Boy, he knew his uncle would be proud. He swallowed, looking down at you in a slight panic, adrenaline coursing through his body.
You took your legs off of him, fixing your hair away from your face. You sniffled up at him. He wanted to back away and cower now that he had lost his momentum, but he wouldn’t allow it, and he didn’t want you to go back into your shell. He leaned back down and gave you a silent peck, pressing you back into the pillow, hand gripping your waist. “Y/n,” He pulled away in a whisper, looking at you through his lashes, forehead pressed against your own. “I..I do. I love you.”
You nodded, leaning up to kiss him again. You pushed your tongue into his mouth, making him groan and send vibrations into your lips. “I love you more.”

I've finally decided to make a sequel to this post with the Sleepy Bois animal figurines
Tumblr media
It's the Syndicate! They're having a picnic. Niki brought so much bread
[ID: A photo of four animal figurines dressed up like Dream SMP characters. Technoblade is a pig with a crown and a red cape with white trim, Philza is a crow with an Urahara bucket hat, Ranboo is a black and white cat with a crown and with green and red eyes, Niki is a grey and white stripy cat with a black and grey cape/poncho and a pink flower shaped button sewn on it. The figurines are on a wooden shelf with a red model cabin in the background. There's a Minecraft cake made out of clay between them. Next to Ranboo there's a grass block made of clay and model grass. behind Niki there's a mini basket full of tiny loaves of bread, some of which have spilled out.]
Also don't worry about the crimeboys, they're on their own adventure on the windowsill:
Tumblr media
[ID: Wilbur and Tommy on the windowsill next to a candle. Wilbur is a wild boar with a yellow jumper and a guitar on his back. Tommy is a white chicken with a green scarf around his neck. Tommy's discs are leaning on the candleholder.]
Will I keep making more of these? idk, maybe? I'm having a lot of fun with this project tbh, and there are some very obvious ones I could do...

what do they smell like
AN: I know I did this before, but I need to correct myself. Plus, it was like 2 years ago, so..
Tumblr media Tumblr media
ℝℤ 𝕄𝕚𝕔𝕙𝕒𝕖𝕝 𝕄𝕪𝕖𝕣𝕤
Most of the time, he smells like sweat and that sweet coppery odor of blood.
That changes whenever he actually decides to take a shower and change his clothes.
Suddenly he smells like nothing. And I mean nothing.
If you inhale deeply enough, you might get a faint whiff of sanitizer, like the kind they use in hospitals, but that's it.
You can decide for yourself if that's a blessing or a curse.
𝕍𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕖𝕟𝕥 𝕊𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕝𝕒𝕚𝕣
Paraffin wax.
So he smells like plastic and, like, the worst kind.
Maybe you need to convince him to use some bee wax candles for a change. Or some wax that smells like something nice, at least.
Which makes me think of another headcannon: Vincent hates the smell of cheap scented candles. He can not stand them. You'd think his nose might be desensitized to bad smells by now, but no.
The only scented candles he allows in his basement are the expensive ones, with real dried flowers or some good essential oils.
Other than paraffin wax, he smells like his body wash, which is the same as Bo's.
(You can not convince me they do not share one. Maybe buy him some nice shampoo while we're at it.)
The smell of the wax easily overpowers anything else, though.
𝔹𝕠 𝕊𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕝𝕒𝕚𝕣
Bo prides himself on owning some really nice cologne.
So, if he applies that, he actually smells really nice.
Other than that: cigarettes.
I feel like he actually has a nice smell, though. He smells like someone who'd call you sugar, if that makes sense.
𝕃𝕖𝕤𝕥𝕖𝕣 𝕊𝕚𝕟𝕔𝕝𝕒𝕚𝕣
I know, we have the ongoing joke of Lester smelling bad, but I've changed my mind.
Of course, after working, he smells very bad. Like a dead animal that has been cooking in the sun for way too long.
But he's a clean boy! After he takes a shower, he smells like a mix of leather and something flowery, airy. Kind of like a freshly picked bouquet of wildflowers. Don't ask me where that comes from.
When he's been crafting something, he also smells like hot glue and wood, but it's not powerful enough to be unpleasant.
𝔹𝕣𝕒𝕙𝕞𝕤 ℍ𝕖𝕖𝕝𝕤𝕙𝕚𝕣𝕖
Dust.
Like, you know when something smells old because it's been standing somewhere without being touched for too long?
That's what he smells like.
He doesn't need to, though. He probably has an arsenal of really expensive perfumes and colognes standing somewhere in that mansion.
After he meets you, there's a slight chance that he'll take more care of himself. And in that case, he will finally use those fragrances.
As soon as he does that, he smells like that mansion looks. Rich, educated, charming, handsome even.
𝕋𝕙𝕠𝕞𝕒𝕤 ℍ𝕖𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕥
Hay, dry earth, Tommy smells like a hot day on a field.
When he spent some more time in the basement, the smell becomes even earthier and damp. Like a crypt.
Though, most days the 'warm' smell is stronger and it's really wholesome. When you hug him, it feels like you're hugging a cat who's been lounging in the sun for a while and got all heated up. (I just want to hug him, man.)
𝕆𝕥𝕚𝕤 𝔻𝕣𝕚𝕗𝕥𝕨𝕠𝕠𝕕
Now, that man smells bad.
Rotting corpses, vomit kind of bad. It's not good.
When he does his makeup and actually showers, it's not that bad anymore. Then, he just smells like the makeup he applies (you know, the stuff they paint children's faces with?) and (probably Baby's) body wash.
𝔹𝕒𝕓𝕪 𝔽𝕚𝕣𝕖𝕗𝕝𝕪
Baby loves sweet perfumes, especially when they have a fruity note (pun intended).
She has a few fragrances she always uses, and they make her smell really nice, and really sweet, kind of like candy.
If she doesn't apply those, she smells like lotion and body oil.
Pretty, that's what she smells like.
ℝ𝕁 𝔽𝕚𝕣𝕖𝕗𝕝𝕪
Motor oil, leather and rain.
Motor oil from working on the trucks all day long, leather from his jackets. Where does the smell of rain come from? Don't ask me.
He smells really masculine in that sense, like a ride on a motorcycle.
𝕁𝕒𝕤𝕠𝕟 𝕍𝕠𝕠𝕣𝕙𝕖𝕖𝕤
Do corpses emit smell if they're still alive?
Well, Jason does.
He smells like wet earth, rain, and the forest. A really grounding smell overall.
Hugging him feels like laying on the forest ground after it has been raining for a while. In a nice way, though.
It's really refreshing, and really pleasant.
𝔸𝕞𝕒𝕟𝕕𝕒 𝕐𝕠𝕦𝕟𝕘
Amanda uses really nice body wash. Something that smells like pine needles.
Other than that, she smells like old metal and disinfectant.
Old metal, because she spends half of her days designing traps and disinfectant because of John.

Your boys
TW: well, there's no them
Characters: Vincent Sinclair, Thomas Hewitt (polyamory)
Ps: Well, I made that for my ex-girlfriend in the past, but I through it is cute for reading :) I hope you enjoy it ♡
Tumblr media
You lived in a small house on the outskirts of the city. It was akin to a warm mansion next to a shallow river, surrounded by dense thickets for miles around. There was a grassy clearing in front of the house, always dotted with large daisies in summer; a paved gray path led to the entrance; the porch was covered with dark ivy. The front of the makeshift garden was filled with many flowering bushes of red geranium and white scabious.
Today was a very busy and tiring day, so you were very tired and irritable. Recently, your damn director has behaved extremely openly and promiscuously towards you, what's more, he hung extra work on you in order to cross paths with you once again. It made me very angry. So the only thing you wanted right now was to come home and go to bed.
You forcefully pulled the door handle, then pulling the keys out of the keyhole. With one awkward jerk, entering the house, you closed the front door and threw your keys and bag on the floor. Also quickly taking off your shoes, you exhaled heavily and went to your bedroom, plopping down on the bed. I wanted to lose myself in this cool bedspread and a large pillow with a pleasant lilac scent from the new fabric softener.
It was getting overcast outside the window, the clouds were gradually thickening, covering the shining sun, a real downpour was about to begin. The wind was getting stronger, and now it penetrated into the room, enveloping your body, from which the skin was covered with goosebumps. Your face was burning from the still present tension after a working day. The caressing evening air was relaxing. Especially now, here in the forest, when everything around has acquired the smell of damp earth and damp trees.
You squeeze the blue bedspread with your fist, burying your nose more into the pillow. After a moment, the mattress next to you will crumple under a heavy weight, and you feel a big hand on your hip. The palm is large and rough even through the thickness of jeans, but the movements are rhythmic and soft. Your shoulders involuntarily lower, relaxing. You squirm a little, and the movements on your leg stop.
"Hi, Tommy," you whisper, lifting your face from the pillow, leaning on your elbows.
The man nods briefly and looks at you with excitement. You slowly sit down, not taking your eyes off the man. His hair is disheveled in the usual way for him, falling over his broad shoulders, curls curl into small curls. Big blue eyes move over your body with obvious anxiety and fear, noticing every tense movement of your body. Now he was wearing the clothes you bought, and there was no mask on his face, revealing a slightly rotting skin and a missing nose.
Thomas looks at you, scrutinizing your awkward gaze and drooping shoulders, when he finally clumsily signs: "Are you okay?". His sign language wasn't as good as yours yet, he started learning it quite recently, but he was already making decent progress, so it turned out to be quite easy to understand simple phrases on his part.
"It's okay, Tommy. It's okay," you awkwardly tuck a strand of hair behind your ear, "I'm just tired. My boss is not very good, so..."
You were interrupted by the feeling of a warm palm on your cheek. Thick fingers gently rubbed against your soft skin; eyes the color of forget-me-nots looked at your face with awe and pity. Thomas could not always convey his thoughts in words, he liked to show his feelings. And now the man was trying to calm you down and show that everything that a bad person has done to you is not important, because Hewitt is next to you, here and now, and he will protect you from all the nightmares in the world.
Sitting on his lap was the best thing to do after a hard day's work. Over time, the man got used to your excessive tactility, especially in stressful situations, and began to perceive it as a good sign, an excuse to show his love. Because now he was gently pressing you to him, putting his head on top of your head. He was mumbling incoherently, I think it was a lullaby about a mockingbird, which his mother sang to him in early childhood. You cooed softly, pressing your cheek against his broad and large body. The noise in your head slowly subsided, and you hardly remained on the verge of vivacity and sleep.
When you were embraced by another pair of hands, more neat and skillful, you sighed in relaxation, lowering tense eyebrows. Vincent was very quiet, you didn't notice him coming over. The man stroked your hair, running his artistic fingers through the pliable strands, like ribbons flowing over his skin. The palms are rough due to constant work and in places excessively smooth and warm, like wax. The man was whispering something softly, resting his head on Thomas' shoulder, the second only chuckled smugly.
A quiet voice moved to your ear, gently scorching your skin; you felt Vincent's breath on your neck and cheeks, and then he gently touched your lips, giving a weightless kiss.
"Want to eat?" Vincent signs when you open one eye; you nod. Thomas gets out of bed, still holding you in his arms, and gently pushes the artist next to him behind his back, smiling.
Spending time with them like this, the three of them, seemed like a real fairy tale. You don't remember when this strange relationship started, and when the boys agreed to it, but it didn't matter. Hewitt and Sinclair loved you the most in their lives, gradually they got used to the mutual presence, perhaps some strange friendship formed between them, you don't know. But they are crazy about you and will do everything in their power to make you happy.

“Ain’t No Man” by the Avett Brothers
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Austin, Texas
“So, not only did this man, I’m sorry, your Texas tall glass of water, pick you fucking wild flowers, take you to a drive in, act like a complete gentleman the entire night, he turned down sleeping with you after the first date just because he wants to properly date you? Girl, my panties would have been on the FLOOR at that point. Does he have a brother?” Your best friend Ryder was in the round pen with Javi G (who was her favorite out of your boys but she loved them all of course) She was braiding daisies in his silky mane while you were in the main arena, riding Javi P.
The only way Javi P would even think of cooperating with you is if his brother was in close proximity. You also could only ride him bareback with an extremely soft bit. An Eggbutt snaffle bit was one of the gentler bits on the market. This specific bit had a thick mouthpiece which prevented the horse's mouth from being pinched and causing irritation. “When I tell you it was literally the best date I have ever been on, I mean it. Ryder, I was quite literally ready to risk it all for that man. Did I mention the fact that he’s a fantastic kisser?” You spoke with a light giggle as you eased Javi P into a working trot with a soft squeeze. When he responded positively, you leaned over and gave him a light pat on his neck. “He does have a brother. Guarantee he’s just as handsome as Joel. His name is Tommy. Want me to find out if he’s single for you?”
“Oh my god, yes please. Put in the good word for me if he is in fact single. Wait, I just came up with the best idea ever, babe. You should invite Joel and Tommy to the rodeo this weekend! Y’know, so then Tommy can see just how good a cowgirl can ride.” Ryder spoke suggestively as she shot a wink in your direction with a light giggle.
Javi G let out a snort. Humans, man. What fucking weirdos.
You lightly dropped the reins along Javi P’s withers so he could stretch his neck out naturally. “Oh my god, Ryder! You little nasty slut! I mean, you’re right though. Cowgirls can definitely ride. Tell ya what, I’ll let Joel know that you’re interested in his brother, and I’ll invite them to the rodeo. I bet you guys will end up hitting it off super quick babe.”
“You’re the bestest friend a girl could ever dream of having. When are you seeing him again anyway? You guys still do those cute little phone dates and shit?”
You couldn’t help but feel the butterflies bloom in your stomach as you thought about Joel, your Texas tall glass of water. “In a couple hours actually. Sarah has a lesson later this morning and then I’m working a double at the bar tonight. He said he wants to stop on by later while I’m there to see me. He calls me every morning, and every night before he goes to bed. It’s so fucking cute Ry, like he’s so sweet my teeth ache just thinking about it.” You spoke with a dreamy sigh before easing Javi P to a light walk.
“Here we thought chivalry was completely dead and then Joel fucking Miller comes in and proves us all wrong. You guys are disgustingly adorable and I am so happy for you honey, like so so happy.” Ryder was sincere with her words. Your ex nearly made you believe that good men didn’t exist and then Joel, who had only been in your life for a short while now, proved you wrong without even having to try.
“I really didn’t think I was ready to date again, y’know? Joel just makes everything seem so easy. I can’t wait for you to meet him babe, and hopefully you guys can be friends but I’m really not too worried about it.”
“He’s all green flags in my book babe so I’m sure we’ll get along just fine. I’ll be giving him the ‘you hurt her and I will kill you’ talk regardless. I’m sure he’ll be expecting it.” Ryder said with a shrug as she finished braiding the last Daisy into Javi G’s mane. “Now there’s a pretty boy if I ever saw one! Gosh darn, doesn’t he just look so stinking cute?” She talked to him in a baby voice, giving him a big kiss on his velvety nose.
“I can’t picture that man hurting a fly, seriously. Can you imagine if Javi P let me put flowers in his mane? He’d look so handsome!” You eased Javi P into a canter, letting him stretch his legs out. All it took was for you to slightly lean forward along the bareback pad for him to recognize your silent cue to gallop. With a swish of his tail Javi P broke out into a gallop. Despite his cruel treatment during his racing days, this horse loved to run.
“Yeehaw cowgirl!” Ryder enthusiastically yelled from the round pen as Javi P galloped past, kicking up sand along the round pens metal fence.
You gave Javi P all the love and kisses for being such a good boy. You were starting to make some real progress with him and it’s all you could truly hope for. After letting him cool off, Ryder helped you hose him down, give him all the treats before turning him out with Javi G for the rest of the day. It took all of 5 minutes for Javi P to eat every last daisy from his brother's mane before they were happily grazing together.
Tumblr media
Before Sarah would arrive for her lesson, you kept yourself busy with the usual barn chores and soon enough, you were hearing Joel’s truck pulling into the parking lot. You could hear Joel and Sarah’s chatter from outside the open barn doors. Joel’s deep, warm laugh sent your heart racing. As soon as they turned the corner, Joel had his arm around Sarah, playfully pulling his kid into a headlock because she had said something jokingly about his age and him being “too” old for you.
“I ain’t too old for her, sweetpea! Did your uncle Tommy say somethin’ about that?” He chuckled as he ruffled her head of curls playfully.
“HEY! Dad, not the hair!” She giggled as she playfully pushed her dad away, giving him a warning look.
“Who’s too old for who?” You chimed in, arms crossed as you were leaning back against Frankie’s stall. A knowing smirk played across your lips.
Joel felt his cheeks immediately heat up. His whole face felt warm to the touch when he saw you casually leaning back against Frankie’s stall. “Oh, hey there darlin’! Sarah here was just messin’ around. Right kiddo?”
“Uh huh. I was just messing around! Oh, shoot! Daaad. We forgot her latte in the car! I’ll go get it!” She shot you a little wink before she slipped out of her dad’s light hold and took off back outside to the truck.
Joel wasted little to no time to make his way over to you. His palms felt a little clammy on his approach and you could tell by his body language alone, he was a little flustered. Once he was close enough, you reached out and gently grabbed his hands, pulling him in close to you. “Joel, you got me another latte?” You playfully scolded him.
“Yeah, I uh–I did. I know you said I didn’t have to but it makes me happy to get you one. It ain’t cost me much. Just a couple bucks and that pretty smile of yours.” He had a small grin tugging on the corner of his lips as he gently played with your fingers between his.
“My pretty smile huh? Why don’t you give me a quick kiss, cowboy. Before Sarah gets back.”
Joel was quick to close the small gap between your bodies, bringing your interlocked hands to rest alongside either side of your head as he slotted his lips between yours. You could feel his small grin against your lips as Frankie had stuck his head out his stall door and was playfully nibbling on Joel’s flannel.
The kiss was short, but sweet and had your toes curling inside the confines of your riding boots. By the time Sarah returned with your latte, you and Joel had already parted from the kiss.
“Were you guys just?—I don’t wanna know!” Sarah said with a light giggle as she handed you the latte.
Joel’s face was the dead giveaway that you were in fact kissing like lovestruck teenagers just a few seconds ago.
“Are you ready to do some more groundwork with Frankie today kiddo? I’ve got a feeling that you’re gonna be able to successfully join up with him today!” You did your best to change the conversation so that Joel’s face wasn’t a consistent shade of beet red.
“Wait, seriously? Yes! I am so ready to do more groundwork with him today!” Sarah spoke with pure excitement as she walked up to Frankie’s stall and gave his velvety nose a nice soft pat.
“Why don’t you get his halter on kiddo and bring him in the round pen, okay?” You took a sip of the latte then, shooting Joel a little wink over the rim of the cup.
Sarah wasted no time to grab Frankie’s halter and leadrope before she was slowly opening up his stall door, wishing him a good morning as she slipped his halter over his head and ears. Frankie already loved this kid so much that he nuzzled his face into her shoulder affectionately. Joel’s heart just about melted when he heard the softest giggle slip past his baby girl's lips and you swore you saw your Texas tall glass of water tear up just the slightest.
He really loved his daughter that much.
Fuck, there goes your heart. Melting in a puddle of sticky sweet molasses and Joel fucking Miller.
Tumblr media
Once Sarah had led Frankie into the round pen, you gave her a chance to show you, and Joel, everything that you taught her thus far. You were close by, sitting on top of a mounting block in the far corner of the round pen. Joel was on the outside of the fence, standing close to where you were sitting.
Sarah had no trouble getting Frankie to listen to her when she eased him onto the rail. She remembered the body posture you told her and to only use the long whip as a gentle guide. Frankie of course was the best boy ever. All she had to do was click her tongue a couple times and he broke out into a working trot. The excitement was written across your face when you saw Frankie turning his inside ear towards Sarah, showing her that he was listening to her completely.
After having Frankie trot a few times in one direction, she turned her shoulder inwards, switching the whip to the other hand. This signaled Frankie to change directions which he did flawlessly.
Once he was adequately warmed up, she asked him to canter. It took just a little bit of effort on her part for Frankie to listen to her cue, but she held her ground beautifully. After working him for a little longer, it was time for the join up. Sarah slowly dropped the whip to the ground, taking a deep breath as her shoulders relaxed. She exhaled, turning her shoulder inwards with her back facing Frankie. Her posture was relaxed and she held her hand out to her side.
Frankie had slowed down to a light walk and when he saw his favorite tiny human giving him the okay to relax, he turned his head towards her and slowly walked forward. His ears were facing forward, showing he was focused and listening. His velvet soft nose lightly nudged against her hand, signaling his submission to her. You could see Sarah’s face light up when Frankie had nuzzled her hand and she slowly turned around and gave him a well deserved pat, and kiss on his nose. The join up was completed successfully and as Sarah started to walk towards you and Joel, Frankie was following right behind her.
“Did you guys see that? I did it! He was such a good boy too!” Frankie was lightly nudging her back with his nose. He playfully nibbled on the end of her shirt affectionately.
“You did a great job kiddo! See, wasn’t that so cool? I think we can officially get you in the saddle for your next lesson. How does that sound to you?” You had an equally as big smile as Joel did. He could genuinely tell that you were excited and proud of Sarah and the progress she already had made.
“Wait, really? Can I ride Frankie then? I really like him a lot.” Sarah said with a big smile, giving Frankie a hug with her arms gently wrapping around his furry neck.
“Of course you can! I think you guys are the perfect match for each other. Frankie really likes you too, Sarah. I think you guys are gonna make a great team.” You reached into your pocket, pulled out a carrot and snapped it in half, giving Frankie the first half and handed the other to Sarah so that she could reward him as well.
To Joel, this whole scene playing out in front of him was truly a sight for sore eyes. He was so happy that he had met you, and that you were in his, and Sarah’s life. He hoped that you would be in their lives indefinitely.
After letting Frankie cool down, Sarah gave him a well deserved brush down before she turned him out into the pasture. She was happily sitting alongside the fence as she watched him, Javi G and Javi P, grazing together under the shade of a tree.
You were watching Sarah fondly when you felt a pair of strong arms wrap around your waist from behind. The slight stubble on Joel’s face tickled your ear as he kissed your cheek. He gently pulled you against his chest, smiling against your soft skin when he felt you relax in his warm embrace. “You really make my daughter happy. This whole experience has my kid feelin’ over the fuckin’ moon. Thank you. I’m so happy that I stumbled upon your website darlin.’” He whispered softly to you.
Your heart was melting all over again into a pile of gooey mush on the floor. This felt like an absolute fairytale. Something that you would see in the movies, or a cheesy T.V show. “I’m really happy that you stumbled upon my website as well, Joel.”
“Lookin’ forward t’seein’ ya later tonight babe. You mind if my brother Tommy accompanies me?”
“Oh, actually that would be perfect! My friend Ryder was actually asking me earlier if your brother was single. She wanted me to put in the good word for her. Y’know, play the wingwoman role and everything.”
“Oh? Well, lucky for your friend, my brother is absolutely on the market. I’ll let him know when I see him later and then you can give him all the details?” Joel gave your waist a light squeeze. He really enjoyed the way you melted into his arms.
“This is the best news I could possibly give her. I will absolutely give Tommy all the details on her. She’s a real catch.”
“Are we about to become matchmakers now darlin’?”
“I think so, cowboy.” you responded with a small grin on your face.

By 8pm the bar was absolutely slammed with locals and a large group of rowdy college students that were home for the summer. You and the other bartenders were barely given a chance to breathe, and by your 100th tequila shot that you poured, you were getting a little tired.
That was until you saw your Texas tall glass of water stride in the bar with his equally as attractive brother. You saw the similarities in Joel and Tommy Miller’s looks, and right away you knew that Ryder was going to be absolutely on the floor.
You watched the way that Joel effortlessly rolled up the sleeves on his flannel, revealing his tan forearms to you. You watched the way that he caught the eyes of multiple women in the bar and the way they looked him up and down, unashamedly. You couldn’t really blame them though. Your Texas tall glass of water was fucking gorgeous, and all yours.
Joel was paying no mind to the eyes wandering over him and he was solely focused on making it to the bartop. He spotted you immediately and Tommy couldn’t help but watch the way his older brother’s eyes light up when he saw you.
It took a bit of light pushing, and ‘excuse me’s’ for the two brothers to make it to the bartop and claim a seat on two empty stools.
“Hello boys. What can I get for ya?” You said with a small grin. You let your gaze fall on Joel as you gave him a little once over just to watch the way his cheeks immediately heated up.
Tommy let out a low wolf whistle as he wrapped his arm around Joel’s shoulder. “Woo Doggy! I’d love to have a tall glass of you sweetheart!” He said with a light chuckle. “Or your friend, if she’s around? Heard she’s got the hots for me!” He winked.
Joel let out a low grumble as he playfully shoved his brother’s arm off of his shoulder. “Please excuse my brother, darlin’. Ma dropped him on his head when he was a baby and he’s turned into a complete fuckin’ imbecile cus’ of it.”
“You gotta stop tellin’ people that Joel! They’re gonna start thinkin’ ma did it on purpose!” Tommy bickered back.
You brought your hand over your mouth to contain your giggles as you watched the two Miller boys bicker. “Oh, my friend is absolutely going to love you Tommy. You guys are gonna get along just fine. Maybe even a little too well. I think you are actually the male version of her.”
“Well, sweet cheeks, if your friend is anythin’ like me, I definitely might fall in love jus’a little. Now, before my brother here rings me up for havin’ no manners, it’s so wonderful to finally meet the pretty bird that has gone and stolen my brother’s heart. It’s a bout’ damn time too!” Tommy reached his hand out over the bartop for you to shake.
“It’s hard not to fall in love with Ryder. She’s a total catch. Gotta say, I knew you were gonna be easy on the eyes, but maybe I picked the wrong Miller brother?” You teased before grabbing his hand and giving it a firm shake.
The tips of Joel’s ears had turned red as he glowered at his brother. He might have been just a tad jealous. He knew his brother was a natural flirt, but you were his girl. Joel’s girl. It slipped off his tongue smoothly. His girl.
“Ooooh boy. Don’t go and sayin’ that in front of my brother sweetheart. He gets a lil’ jealous. I’m flattered though. You’re a real peach!” He lightly poked his brother’s cheek with his finger. “Aw, big brother! Don’t go gettin’ all pouty! I know she’s your girl. You ain’t gotta worry bout’ me stealin’ her.”
Joel’s girl.
You were his girl.
Now you were the one feeling slightly flustered when Tommy said that you were Joel’s girl. “Hey, grumpy? I can’t kiss that pout away when I'm on the clock, cowboy. Don’t worry. I know I picked the right Miller brother.”
“You tellin’ me that you can kiss it away when you’re off the clock?” Joel asked with a small grin playing on his lips.
“You bet your ass I can.” You grinned back.
“Alright, if you guys are gonna be gross n’stuff, I need a glass of whiskey stat.” Tommy said teasingly as he lighty pinched his brother’s cheek.
“Two Whiskeys on the rocks?”
“Make mine neat darlin.’” Joel requested.
You poured the Miller brother’s their drinks before you and Tommy engaged in a bit of chatter. You told him about the horses and how well Sarah was doing and he told you about Joel, of course. Tommy was incredibly easy to get along with and your eyes would glance in Joel’s direction every so often to see how he was doing.
Little did you know, Joel appreciated the small gesture more than you even knew.
“So your friend Ryder is a fuckin’ barrel racer? Jesus Christ. I think I just died a lil’ and went to heaven! Hey, big brother? You down to go to a rodeo next weekend?” Tommy glanced at his brother over the rim of his glass.
“A rodeo? Yeah. Sounds like a good time.” Joel responded as he took a large sip of his whiskey.
You found out very quickly that the Miller boys could hold their liquor incredibly well and you were happy to see Joel loosen up a bit and engage in the conversation more. When a new rush of people came in, you left the brothers to their own devices for a period of time.
Tommy dragged his brother over to the pool table, setting it up in no time. “I like her, Joel. She seems like a good one. Better than the rest of em.’ I ain’t just sayin’ this to say it either. You both clearly really like each other. I’m happy to see you happy.”
Joel was lining up for his first shot to break up the formation with the cue ball. “Yeah, she’s..amazin’ i’m afraid i’m gonna screw the whole thing up though Tommy. Like i’ll say the wrong thing or fuck, i’ll just get too in my head and end up pushin’ her away or somethin.’” He took the shot, watching as the balls broke apart on the pool table.
“Joel, you can’t be thinkin’ about that shit, okay? I don’t think she’s gonna judge you for your past. Why would she? She’s not like the other girls you’ve been with, man. She seems like a ball of sunshine compared to the rest of ‘em. If it’s botherin’ you this much, just be honest and tell her. She can’t fault you for bein’ honest.”
Joel let out a deep sigh before he finished off his glass of whiskey. He was definitely starting to feel a buzz creeping on now. “I don’t think she wants to hear my sob story about how Sarah’s mom left us when she was just a fuckin’ toddler, and I definitely don’t think she wants to hear about how sad my dating life has been because of it.”
“If you’re not ready to tell her about Sarah’s mom, you don’t have to jump right into that necessarily. Just be open about your feelings Joel. You told me she hasn’t had the best luck with dating either. This could be a conversation that you both are able to relate to.”
“So you don’t think its goin’ to turn her off if I tell her i’m still in like this..adjustment period?” He looked across the pool table at his brother.
“No. I literally don’t think you could possibly turn that girl off Joel. She’s got the hots for you, and only you. Just don’t try and force the convo, okay? Let it happen naturally.”
“I won’t force the topic on her. I promise.” Joel nodded.
“There’s my soft teddy bear big brother!”
“I fuckin’ hate you.” Joel said with a deep chuckle.
“Shuddp. You love me!”

Once most of the college kids had cleared out, and the bar was less packed, Joel and Tommy were able to rejoin you at the bar top. You had heard this specific song playing through the bar speakers about a 100+ times. It was a song that could get any crowd going. With that smooth country rhythm and head bopping beat. ‘There Ain’t No Man’ by The Avett Brothers.
Your head was already bopping to the beat as you hummed the lyrics under your breath, swaying your hips a little as you finished making another Cowboy Margarita, a new menu item. Joel was watching the way the music enveloped you and he couldn’t help but get drawn into it as well as he bobbed his head, and tapped his boot on the floor below him.
“I'm gonna fall hard, yeah, I know I am when the crowds crack up, I laugh with them.”
Joel, Tommy, and the rest of the bar crowd had sung along.
“There ain't no man can save me.
There ain't no man can enslave me.
Ain't no man, a man that can change the shape my soul is in.
There ain't nobody here.
Who can cause me pain or raise my fear.
'Cause I got only love to share.
If you're looking for a truth, I'm proof you'll find it there.”
“You say you look funny, I say you're a star.
I say you're whatever you think you are.
Watch the naysayers fall right in line.
If we believe it they'll say,”
"She is so pretty, he is so fine!" You and Joel had leaned in close together, singing the lyrics together. You were close enough that your noses were nearly touching.
“Oh just fuckin’ kiss her!” One of your local townies yelled from the end of the bar top.
Before Joel could even utter a response back, you were gently grabbing his jaw between your fingers and kissing him sweetly.
Every single person in the bar had let out a loud cheer when you and Joel had kissed, and you both were laughing in the kiss, noses bumping lightly as your fingers gently brushed against the stubble along his jaw.
“Guess you kissed my pout away on the clock after all darlin.” Joel chuckled warmly against your lips. You could taste the whiskey on his tongue.
“Keep kissing me cowboy.” you mumbled against his lips, pulling him in closer.

It was 1a.m by the time that the bar was beginning to close down for the night. Whatever stragglers were left were gonna have to get the hell out soon because you were ready to head home and knock the fuck out. “HEY! LISTEN UP! If you don’t work here, sleep here, fuck somebody that works here, finish your drinks, close your tab out, tip 20% and go the fuck home!”
Joel and Tommy were already getting ready to close their tabs out when you had stopped them. “You guys don’t have to leave. I just have to say that every closing shift. It’s become a tradition around here.” You noticed the way Joel’s cheeks heated up as soon as you said “fuck somebody that works here.”
“Man, I knew you were one rad chick!” Tommy laughed and gave his brother a little squeeze. “You got my brother out here feelin’ speechless darlin!’”
“You say that every closin’ shift?” Joel asked curiously as he playfully swatted at his brother.
“Mhm. You’re in luck, cowboy. You fall into one of those categories.”
“But we–” Joel was cut off by his brother, shushing him with a finger over his lips.
“Alright, kids. Imma head home! This has been such a fun time, and i’m really lookin’ forward to seein’ more of ya sweet cheeks! You tell that friend of yours that I'm lookin’ forward to meetin’ her next weekend. Can you make sure my brother gets home safely? I know he’s gonna wanna spend some extra time with his girl.” He shot you a wink before paying out the tab, leaving you a fat tip before slipping off the leather stool.
You waved goodbye to Tommy as he left the bar and you quickly started to wipe down the counter and place the various bottles back on the shelves. Joel had waited till it was just the two of you left in the bar before he slipped off his own stool. His head was slightly spinning and it was a good thing that he didn’t drive. “Can I uh–help ya with anythin’ darlin?’”
You looked over at your Texas tall glass of water with a small grin on your lips as you finished wiping down the bartop. “Nah. I’m just about finished up here and then I can drive you home.”
Joel had slipped around the bartop as he approached you. As soon as you were within his reach, he snaked his arms around your waist, slowly backing you up into the counter with ease. “Well, in that case..” he whispered as you brought your arms up around his neck, playing with the soft curls on the nape of his neck.
“Did you have a good time tonight Joel? I’m really happy that you came out to see me. Made my shift a hell of a lot more fun.”
Joel tightened his grip around your waist as he let his thumbs dip into the waistband of your shorts, pulling you in closer to him. His nose was lightly brushing against yours as he dipped his head down. “I had a wonderful time with you tonight, baby. I hope my brother wasn’t too much of a nuisance.”
Your breath had slightly hitched in your throat when Joel had yanked you in closer by the belt loops of your shorts and your lips brushed against his lightly. “Less talking, more kissing please.” You whispered against his lips.
“Someone is awfully eager.” Joel chuckled lightly as he properly kissed you. It wasn’t long before he was gently grasping the back of your thighs and lifting you up onto the cool countertop. He drank in the soft gasp that slipped past your lips as he kissed you deeper, licking your bottom lip lightly before your lips parted for him and he explored your mouth expertly with his tongue.
Time seemed to completely stop from the way Joel was kissing you. You could tell that with each swipe of his tongue, he was gaining more confidence. Your senses were completely overtaken by him. His cologne, the whiskey lingering on his tongue. The way his fingers were tightly gripping your hips.
A light moan had slipped its way past your lips and the sound seemed to urge Joel to continue, and possibly throw all rational thoughts out the fucking window. “You’re so fuckin’ beautiful and these shorts your wearin’ are drivin’ me up a fuckin’ wall.” He rasped, giving your hips a firm squeeze.
“Why don’t you take them off, cowboy.” You whispered, kissing him deeper as you lightly tugged on the roots of his hair.
Joel let out a low groan as he felt his own head begin to spin. “Darlin’ you can’t be sayin’ stuff to me like that. You can’t be doin’ that. I’m about ready to rip these off ya, but I'm a little drunk. I don’t wanna do anythin’ when i’m under the influence. That ain’t right to you.” He whispered.
“I hope I can meet your mom one of these days just so I can tell her thank you for raising such a fucking wonderful gentleman.” You broke the kiss momentarily for a breath of air.
“I think we can arrange that baby.” Joel lightly rested his forehead against yours, eyes fluttering open as he looked down into yours.
You gently cupped his jaw in your hands, kissing him a few more times as you nuzzled your nose against his. “You wanna get out of here?”
“Yeah, take me home baby.” He chuckled and gave you one more deep kiss before he was gently helping you off the counter. He even fixed your shorts for you a bit as they had hiked up your thighs.
“C’mon lover boy, let's get you home safe.” You grabbed his hand, interlocking your fingers together before you finished locking up the bar and brought him out to your car.
Joel was sober enough to give you the directions to his home, but you could tell by his position in the passenger seat that he was definitely a little drunk. You rolled his window down a little so he could get some fresh air. You had to gently shake him awake when you pulled into his driveway. “Joel, honey? Hey, we’re home.”
Joel slowly opened his eyes, blinking a few times before he sat up. “Shit. M’sorry darlin’ I didn’t mean to fall asleep.” He mumbled.
“It’s alright, Joel. Let's get you inside okay? C’mon cowboy.” You spoke softly to him as you got out of the driver’s seat and walked around to the passenger seat and helped him out of the car.
“Shouldn’t I be the one walkin’ ya to your door?” He mumbled into your shoulder, draping his arm around your waist for support.
“Baby, you’re drunk. It’s okay. I’m gonna make sure that you get into bed safely. Now, where are your keys?” You had gotten him to the front door at this point.
“Back pocket. I’ll get 'em for ya.” He reached into his back pocket with his free hand and pulled out his keys and dropped them into your hand.
Once you had the door open, you helped Joel inside before gently closing the door behind you. Getting Joel up the stairs was a bit of a challenge but he wasn’t complete dead weight. He mumbled into your hair about his bedroom being the first door on the left. Once you had him inside his room, you slowly set him down on the edge of his bed and helped him take his boots off and set them aside.
Joel was watching you with droopy eyes as you unlaced his boots. His body was swaying slightly as his forearms rested along his made up comforter. “M’sorry that you’re havin’ to take care of me like this when you probably just wanna go home and sleep.” He mumbled.
“Joel. It’s okay. I promised Tommy I'd get you home safe. You’re fine, okay?” You looked up at him with a soft expression on your face.
“You’re too good for me darlin’. I don’t deserve you.”
“Joel..What are you talking about? Where is this all coming from?” You rose from your knees, taking a seat next to him on the comforter.
“They all leave me anyway. I never–I can never hold someone down.” He whispered as he looked down at his lap.
“Joel. Hey, I'm right here, and I'm not going anywhere. Okay? I’m not going anywhere.” You reached for his hand, gently interlocking your fingers together and held his hand in his lap. “Listen, I know that you have been out of the dating world for a while, I know you’re adjusting to all of this. I understand where you’re coming from, and I'm here for you.”
Tommy was right. Joel had nothing to worry about, nothing to fear when it came to you. You truly were a ball of wonderful sunshine.
“Thank you for understandin’ where i’m comin’ from. I appreciate it more than you know. I didn’t mean to get in my head like that. I just..I don’t wanna fuck things up.” He admitted quietly.
“Joel, it's okay. We all get in our head over these things sometimes. It happens more than you think. It’s what makes us human, right? Having these feelings and being able to express them in a safe space? You’re a wonderful person, Joel. I can’t imagine you fucking something like this up. I just want you to know that anytime you wanna talk about these things, I will always be here to listen and be there for you.” You gave his hand a gentle squeeze, stroking your thumb across the back of his hand.
“You’re so incredible, you know that? Thank you for just..validating my feelings. Sometimes that’s all a person needs to hear, y’know? Thank you sweetheart.” He turned his head slightly so he could rest his chin along your shoulder.
“Hey, don’t you go and make me cry right now cowboy. I completely understand though. Your feelings are valid. Now, let's get some water in your system and then get you to bed.” You gently squeezed his hand once more as you were standing up from the comforter.
“Stay.” He whispered.
“What?..”
“Please stay the night.” He was already reaching for your hand again.
“Joel..we said we wanted to take things slow. Remember?”
“I just wanna hold ya. I don’t want you drivin’ home alone this late either. I understand if you don’t want to, and I won’t pressure you.”
“Okay. I’ll spend the night.” You whispered.
“I’ll get you somethin’ to sleep in.” He was slowly rising from the comforter to grab you a tshirt and boxers to sleep in. “bathroom is just down the hall. I think we got extra toothbrushes in the cabinet. There’s face wash and stuff too.” He grabbed you a fresh shirt and boxers from his dresser and handed them to you.
“Thank you. I’m going to get us some water as well and then i’ll come to bed, Okay?”
Joel nodded before his arms were wrapping around you and giving you a warm hug. He kissed the side of your head before he slowly pulled away.
You left his bedroom quietly so he could have some privacy to change as you quietly padded down the hall to the bathroom. You changed out of your work clothes and into the T-shirt and boxers Joel gave you. They smelled like him, and lavender vanilla laundry detergent. You found a spare unopened toothbrush and quietly brushed your teeth and washed your face. You found your way down to the kitchen and grabbed two bottles of water.
Joel was changed and under the covers by this time. He texted Tommy that he was home safe and that he was right about you. He left out the part that you were spending the night, because he knew that he’d never hear the end of it.
You quietly slipped past his bedroom door, handing him the bottle of water before you set your clothes, and purse down on the nightstand and slowly climbed under the covers. Joel had chugged nearly half the bottle of water before he rolled over onto his side to face you. He had mumbled something incoherent as he reached his arms out and slowly wrapped them around your waist and pulled you in close. His chest was bare, and warm against your cheek, and you could hear the steady thrum of his heartbeat as your legs gently entangled together.
“G’night, darlin.’” Joel whispered softly into your hair as his eyes closed.
“Goodnight, cowboy.” You whispered back as you let your body relax in his grasp. Soon, you were drifting off into the peaceful dream realm.

you and tom had fallen asleep last night quite late, giggling and smiling together as usual, looking forward to the following day. your one year anniversary.
if you were being honest, you didn’t know how you had managed to keep a relationship for one year, especially with someone as hyper and chaotic as tommy. in the beginning of dating him, you had been hesitant since you hadn’ been able to handle relationships before, but also confused, because with tom, you didn’t get burnt out. you were okay with being affectionate and cheesy around him, which had never happened before. you had never felt more comfortable around anyone. which, you believe, was the reason you had managed to put up a year with him.
‘put up’ being used very loosely. you wanted nothing more than to spend all your time with him. in no way did you ‘put up’ with tommy.
when you woke up in the morning, you rolled over, wanting to cuddle with tom for a little before getting up, only to find empty space.
okay, that’s odd. tom was very much not a morning person, especially not on a day like today.
you slid out of bed, grabbing one of tom’s hoodies that was hung on the back of a chair, pulling it over you from the slight autumn chill, making your way into the kitchen, just to see if he was there. which he was. standing over the hob with two of the flat pans, pancake batter poured into them. he had the speaker on, playing his khai dreams playlist, and he moved around the kitchen while softly singing along.
“tom?”
“morning, lovely.” he spoke, your stomach curling at the sound of his morning voice, which had not yet worn off.
“tom, since when could you make pancakes?” you asked, spotting the small pile of them on a different plate placed on the island countertop. none of them were burnt. none of them had holes or were broken. they looked perfect.
tom smiled. “i’ve always been able to. mum taught me ages ago.”
you fell onto your hip, crossing your arms over your chest. “so why am i always the one that makes them?”
“so when i make them, it’s special.” he grins, leaning over and pressing a kiss on your cheek before running off to put the now cooked pancake on the plate along with the others.
you gasped, watching as he failed to hide the large smile on his face, eyes wide. “cheek!”
“most of them are done, you can help yourself.” he spoke, concentrating on the final one.
but you shook your head. “no it’s fine, i’ll wait for you.”
“what a sweetheart.” he joked, not having to even look up at you to see the smile curved into your lips. and after a second of comfortable silence, he stood up straight, coming over to you, pulling you in for a kiss filled to the brim, overflowing, even, with love. the pure adoration you had for each other. once the two of you pulled away, he smiled, resting his forehead against yours. “and happy anniversary, darling.”
“happy anniversary, pretty boy.”
the two of you ate breakfast together like usual, random conversations about random things, catching up on news and ending up with the tv playing quietly in the background. it was nice. it was quiet, which was rare with tom and his job. it was perfect, really.
after breakfast, you convinced tom to come back to bed for a few cuddles. just lengthening the quiet time you had before he took you out for whatever he was planning. for about half an hour or so, the two of you spent time together in bed, under the covers just tangled in each other, not necessarily needing to talk, just small murmurs to each other every now and again. it often took tom a while to calm down, unless he was burnt out, but that morning he managed it perfectly, being calm and relaxed around you, shutting down together while you recharged for the day ahead. tom said he apparently had a lot planned.
most of the day had been spent doing all your favourite things. you taught him more guitar, giggling as he struggled some of the harder chords now that he was getting to that point. you were in the middle of teaching him ‘charlie boy’ by the lumineers, which he was really eager to learn, since it was one of your favourite songs. overall, it was going pretty well, and it was still mostly enjoyable. the two of you had a good time, and tom really did love playing guitar, even if he sometimes struggles to keep up or have precision.
he, in turn, had taken you into the office and forced you to play some minecraft (forced being used very loosely. you actually loved playing it but shush). he had taken you onto the server and shown you around, cackling in proudness as you hit an mlg perfectly. it was only then when you revealed you played minecraft a ton as a kid, you just hid it from him. at first, he was jokingly annoyed, but quickly got over it when he realised he could now bring you into more videos, if you were comfortable with it, of course.
you had gone to one of the more expensive cafes in the centre of brighton, you getting slightly annoyed when he refused to let you pay, knowing he would do the same when he took you out for dinner tonight. but he promised he would let you pay for ice cream afterwards, and even if it wasn’t the same, you knew it would be the best deal you could get.
as well as that, you both accidently bumped into james and wilbur while walking around the park. you’d stuck around for a bit talking to them but then tom had dragged you away, ready to go back home. tom had said you didn’t have time to get into a deep conversation with wilbur and james, pulling you away as you promised to meet up with the two of them at a later date for coffee or something.
back home, tom made you go into the living room bringing out your gift a second later. you squinted at him as you opened it, mumbling under your breath, “we said we weren’t going to do gifts.”
“it’s only small.” he excused, laughing slightly under his breath as you rolled your eyes, unwrapping it.
it was a lego flower.
a lego rose, unassembled, which meant that he wanted to build it with you. a small smile curved into your lips as you looked up at him grinning. “how did you know?”
“know what?” he asked, eyeing you suspiciously.
without saying another word, you reached behind the sofa and pulled out your gift, chucking it at him. it rattled as he caught it, and he laughed, immediately knowing what it was. he ripped the wrapping paper apart and smiling at the lego yellow tulip that was sprawled across the front of the box.
he looked up at you, a loving look in those gorgeous blue eyes. “we said we weren’t doing presents.”
“shut up.” you shook your head, leaping across the small gap between you and tom, closing it as you pulled him into a hug with such vigour that it pushed the two of you onto the floor. “i love you.”
“love you too, lovely." he spoke, smiling. "cmon, lets build them." and you push yourself off of him, pulling him up with you, ending up just in front him as you passed him the yellow tulip box.
after a few minutes of silence, you got up and grabbed the speaker from upstairs, connecting it to your phone and putting on your shared playlist. it consisted of a lot, including lovejoy, mac miller, khai dreams and a few other of your favourite artists, like the lumineers and many others. it was the perfect playlist for this, just chilling together while building each others presents.
just under half an hour later, you hold the red flower out, examining it and smiling, seeing tom behind it, just finishing as well. you took his hand as you hand him your flower.
"give me one second, i've got the perfect thing to put this in."
and you squeezed his hand lightly behind standing up and leaving the room. you came back a few seconds later with a small pot that had been sitting on your desk without a use for the past few months. tom handed you both flowers as you put each one in. they sat perfectly in the small pot, and tom stood up as you made your way to the windowsill, sitting them on the rim along the bottom. they fit perfectly in the spot, along with the other small, real plants that were scattered along the windowsill.
tom came up behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and settling his chin on your shoulder. "perfect."
"i know!" you laughed, leaning your head back so you could look up at him, which didn't quite work out as he leaned to the right to leave a soft kiss against your cheek. you giggled slightly at his actions, relaxing further into him as you looked out the window together.
but suddenly he was gone, spinning you around and taking your hand in his. "now come on! dinner reservations are soon, and you've got to get ready! we need to be out of the house by half six."
"we going fancy or casual?" you asked, holding his hand tightly, smiling up at the man you loved so dearly.
he shrugged. "somewhere inbetween. honestly, it doesn't really matter, it's not a 'we'll throw you out if you're not dressed black tie' but it's not casual. find something that works for that."
"very helpful." you grinned, leaning up to kiss him softly, feeling his hands on your waist as they squeezed softly.
it wasn't over yet, but this was already the best day you'd ever had. you didn't think anything could ever stop you from loving that man, and you don't expect tom would ever do anything to even threaten that. you'd never felt so much love for one person, and you were sure that he felt the exact same way towards you. life couldn't have been better.

Can You Hear The Music?
I apologise for the cheap title grab, but I was out of ideas! Some preferences for how some of the boys would react to having a musician as a partner, I’m a violinist so this is kind of based around my experiences. Anyway, enjoy!!
Warnings: Consumption of alcohol, I didnt proofread this, sorry!
Tumblr media
Tommy Shelby:
He would almost certainly be there to support you. The only thing that would stop him would be if there was some really urgent business he needed to attend to. He would be there, probably sat on the front row so that he had the best view of you that he possible could. He’d turn up after the performance and insist on carrying all of your bags for you, case and all, with a bouquet of roses like an absolute sop. He wouldn’t have a musical bone in his body, so the fact that his partner did never ceased to amaze him and would make him the proudest man on earth. He’d always comment on how brave he thought you were, even though he was the one that actually went out fighting in France.
Neil Lewis:
The first time he heard you play was when you were practicing, thinking that you were in the house alone. Since then, he had taken to sending random bits of film music on YouTube your way asking if you could play it. He’d drop anything to come along to your concerts, he’d always be sat there with a stupid smile on his face and he’d tell anyone that was with him that you were his. He’d be your biggest support and would always rave over you once you came off the stage. I feel like he would end up with a tradition of dragging you back to the video-store and making you watch ‘The Red Violin’ or something after, probably with a couple of beers, to celebrate.
Robert Fischer:
If you were with this man then there is no doubt that he would have gifted you an instrument worth many thousands of pounds as soon as he saw that you were serious about your music. There would be a rack of designer black dresses and matching heels in your wardrobe as he would insist that you needed a new one for each concert. On the evening he would definitely be there, he’d send flowers ahead of him and you would have to go through the embarrassment of his driver delivering them to your door. He’d probably sit somewhere random in the middle of the crowd so that he didn’t distract you or take any attention away from you if anyone spotted him - he’d be quite conspicuous in a perfect suit having come straight from work. Afterwards he would insist on celebrating, he’d arrange for a car to take you out and there would be a bottle of Moët and a platter of oysters waiting for when you arrived at the bar.
Oppie:
Performing in front of this man would be absolutely terrifying - he isn’t remotely musical but he listens to a lot of classical so he will know if you go wrong. I see him as that annoying person that likes to sit around and watch you practice and gives you irritating pointers when he thinks you are wrong despite having never picked your instrument up before. Even so, he would still be there whenever he could to watch you in concerts. A lot of his friends were musical so you ended up forming little groups with them, especially his brother Frank who was good enough to be a professional on the flute. It would become a fixture that you would get together for informal concerts at the university and then go back to Robert’s for martinis. He was never one to dish out much praise, but he always made sure that he knew he was proud of you when he saw you after a concert. You’d also find the odd piece of fresh sheet music left on your stand when he found something that he thought you would like to play.
Jim (The Delinquent Season):
He would absolutely adore having a musical partner, he’d probably play a bit of piano and guitar himself. He loved to spend an evening mucking about with some fold music together with a glass of wine. Rather than playing classical music like you were more used to Jim would probably have encouraged you to take up some folk music as you were in Ireland. Once a month or so you would try and make it to a folk evening at a local pub, taking your instruments with you. This was your favourite type of performing - informal and relaxed and surrounded by friends with him by your side.
