Jealous Streak (Pablo Gavi x reader) *request

Request: "Hello can u do a fic about gavi being jealous bc the reader has many guys that want her <33"

“Hey, I can't figure out how to get that Ziyech cross right. Can you explain it to me?” 

A seemingly innocent question by one of the players but Gavi can’t help but internally groan at yet another attempt by someone to sneakily get closer to you. He understands the appeal more than he could ever express, being your proud boyfriend, but oh boy does he wish people would give it up already. Smart, funny, kind and drop-dead gorgeous. Of course people were going to like you. You don’t interpret the question in the same way. In your eyes, you’re there to train and so is everyone else. How could there be time for anything else?

“Yeah sure! Gavi, you’re okay cooling down on your own for a second, right?” He nods quickly. He doesn’t trust the guy’s intentions but he trusts you with everything. Who was he to control who you did and didn’t talk to?

His mentality was based on trust but he didn’t realise just how smitten you were with him. You felt like the luckiest girl in the world to have him and as your boyfriend, no less. He had an optimism about him that was infectious and you shared passion for football that made you a perfectly dynamic pair. You can’t see yourself with anyone else, you love him so much that anyone else just doesn’t matter. No matter how obvious they are in their advances, it matters so little to you that you don’t even bother to acknowledge it. Sometimes you don't even pick up on it.  

“So you basically have to angle the ball so it passes to the side and right between the defender’s legs…” he looks lost so you take a different approach.

“Okay maybe a demonstration would work better…” you grab his wrist and move him into a defender’s stance and show him the trick. Some time passes and Gavi feels that pang of jealousy sprout again upon hearing you laugh with the player. His rational mind knows that you’re just as dedicated to him as he is to you but nonetheless. The fact that people have the audacity to still try with you has him agitated though he pushes these feelings down.

The coaches bring the training session to a close and you say your goodbyes to the player and run up to Gavi with a smile on your face. His back is turned so you shock him with a hug from behind. The tension leaves his body as he feels your warmth against him. He gently removes your arms to turn around and pull you in for a kiss, letting it last a second too long so everyone takes the hint. A cough from Pedri and Laura breaks it, they’ve seen the whole interaction with the other guy. They've also been friends with Gavi long enough to know that the jealousy must have been eating him up. He swings an arm around your shoulder, kissing your cheek as the group of you walk together to Pedri’s car.

The pair of you opt to sit in the back, slightly unusual since Gavi much prefers the front so he can talk tactics with his best friend for a bit. Instead, he’s just laying his head on top of yours, hands intertwined as you both listen to your shared playlist together. Laura and Pedri share a knowing glance. 

“... so that's how I got into the boxing match.” you zoned out halfway into the conversation, not knowing how to let the guy down gently. You didn’t care. 

This time at an awards ceremony, where Gavi was going to be presented his golden boy award, some guy from tiktok, who had already been following you for a while on the app, decided to take his chance. Gavi was familiar, his fans had sent him multiple video clips of the very same guy shamelessly thirsting over you. Although this time around, He was especially stupid since Gavi stood right next to you, jaw clenching at the guy’s dislikeable demeanour. What a douche!

“And you won, did you?” you ask innocently. You genuinely didn’t understand the ruthlessness of that comment. Gavi had done some background research on the guy after seeing the clips, gleefully watching him get destroyed in the boxing ring. He thought that the sport was abhorrent but he’d make an exception for seeing this creep getting smacked down by a guy half his size. He sniggers at your comment and you furrow your eyes in confusion, looking back at him. The guy coughs up his drink in surprise and blushes a deep red.

“So… gavi. You play soccer or whatever, right?”

“Football, yes” he keeps the responses short, trying to end the conversation as soon as possible since you had no luck with your attempts

“Must be tough as a rookie, huh?”

“With enough of a work ethic and some talent, you can find a lot of success in it no matter what. you'll get there one day, eh?” He looks down at the trophy he literally just won and then back up at the guy.

“Yeah whatever…” he walks off, mumbling to himself.

“You’re wonderful, you know that right?” he turns you around to kiss you, relishing the cherry flavour of your lip balm.

“I mean yes but in this context, I may need more explanation.” and with that Gavi wraps his arms around your smaller frame in a joyful hug.

Other times, he didn’t have as much luck pushing guys away from you. You’re in a gorgeous grey body-con dress with a pair of matching heels. You’ve had at least 5 guys come up to you and offer to pay for drinks, completely ignoring Gavi’s existence. This time its someone Gavi feels somewhat threatened by: good-looking, cute accent, you’re laughing and smiling at him and Gavi doesn’t know what to think as he continues the conversation with a mutual friend he had caught sight of. There’s a battle going on in his mind about whether it's you being friendly or something more. As the time goes on and his frustration climbs, he doesn’t notice you glancing over at him every once in a while. You’re slightly concerned and missing him next to you. The conversation with the handsome man started off like friendly banter but it was quickly becoming apparent that he wanted something more and you were beginning to crave Gavi’s reassuring presence. You cut the conversation short, opting to go to your boyfriend who was walking out of the venue.

“Pablito! What's wrong?”

“It's whatever, I'm just not feeling good.” You walk up to give him a hug but he doesn't reciprocate. You feel rather awkward so you break the one-sided hug slowly and look up at him.

“Okay, um… let's go home then?” you go to hold his hand but he pulls it away, walking to the car as you trail behind.

The car ride is tense. He doesn’t speak a word or look at you for even a second. His jaw is clenched and his hands flex on the steering wheel every once in a while. You have a feeling you know what's wrong but you just don’t know what to say. You would never even think about being disloyal to him but you supposed it didn’t make the constant advances sit any better with him. 

When you reach home, he takes his shoes off at the coat rack and immediately goes up to your shared room, still not speaking a word.

You opt to make a cup of his favourite hot chocolate and a couple of the cookies you baked together the night before. You walk up the stairs carefully with the tray and thankfully his door is already open. You peer in to see Gavi in his PJs, lying on the bed and staring at the ceiling with a blank look on his face.

“Sweetheart, you know that I wouldn’t trade you for anyone in the world. Me and you are perfect, I don’t care about what those guys think, not one bit.” You place the tray on the bedside table and lie down next to him.

“I get pushed around on the pitch enough, the last thing I need is to have my relationships disrespected too.” You turn to face him and his eyes flicker to you, slightly teared up. Its true, Pablo’s natural talent paired with his young age made him an easy target for the older players. He proved time and time again that he deserved everything he had achieved yet he could still feel other players looking down on him. It hurt, especially from those who he once considered his heroes. He wanted to be taken seriously. He had his feisty moments but no more than other players, even the older ones who made fun of him. His outbursts weren’t unique to him, many players had those moments yet it was him that people criticised and mocked for it.

You move to carefully lay on his chest, rubbing soothing circles on it. The hand that was resting behind his head is now on your back and you sigh.

“I understand, my love. I can’t stop people from acting a certain way but I know that there is no one on the planet who could keep me from you. You’re perfect the way you are and none of those guys have anything on you.” You pull his head down for a passionate kiss. His other hand cups your cheek as he deepens the kiss. As you part for breath, his eyes are on yours. 

“I love you, you know.”

“I love you too.”

It's the final of the Spanish Supercup and Gavi is unbelievably nervous. The Real Madrid players take a special joy in pushing him around and he just can’t afford to let his frustrations get the better of him. He walks past the other locker room and overhears a conversation that has him riled up before the match has even begun.

“... hot as fuck. If we push little Pablito around enough, maybe she’ll come around to her senses.” and Gavi can hear laughs in response.

As the match begins, Gavi is now more motivated than ever to make it count. He can see you in the crowd, looking stunning in his jersey with a warm smile on your face. Your eyes light up as they catch his own.

He thinks he knows exactly who’d been making the crude locker room jokes now as one of the defenders is getting dangerously close to him, preparing for a dirty tackle that Gavi is able to foresee. He’s able to stay up and with the ball, seeing his chance and taking it. The angle is tight but the risk pays off anyway. The crowd erupts into thunderous cheer with the first goal of the night. Gavi is immediately looking at you, making a heart shape with his hands and you signal the same back. The cameras captured the moment.

The rest of the match goes just as smoothly, Gavi hasn’t let a single tackle knock him down and made some crucial passes that allowed another 2 goals to be scored for Barcelona. 

The final whistle is a huge weight off his shoulders as he goes to celebrate the resounding victory with his team. He then immediately runs over and you’re able to reach the barrier which he helps you over. Normally, the pair of you would leave PDA to the bare minimum but he can’t hold off his excitement this time. He pulls you in for a passionate kiss, lifting you up and spinning you around. Once again, the cameras are able to capture the adorable moments as he runs with you to his teammates. He looks over at the defender that made the gross jokes about you and winks. You can already guess what that must have been a reaction to as you look up at him with a smirk.

“This jealousy streak isn’t going away anytime soon, is it?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. It's me and you right? No one else.”

Hi there! I’ve been following for a fair while (I was interested in the premise) and have been meaning to play the game for a while as well, but only started the last day of 2023! One heck of a way to start a year though!

I was wondering, how would the ROs feel about/interact with an MC who is touch averse? If MC can’t stand for people to touch them without getting a little sick feeling? How would that affect their relationship? Would that be a thing that would determine if they would or would not enter a romantic relationship with MC?

And maybe as a lil tiny bonus if you’re feeling up to it, how would the ROs feel if MC one day tried linking pinkies with them? If MC told them that their specific touch isn’t that bad and they wanna try slowly building up physical affection?

Sorry, this is kind of a long ask >.< I myself am iffy on touch at best and I know it’s commonly seen as a “necessity” in relationships of all kinds. Herotome is a VN that kinda breaks down modern relationships and I was curious so I wanted to ask, but alao totally understand if you don’t want or are unsure of how to answer this. Warden: Fuck yeah he's down-- gosh what's gotten into me I'm cursing so much today but I'll make an effort not to censor myself <_< But yeah... honestly a touch averse MC would be right up his alley - assuming he is reassured that he has not done anything wrong/offensive with any accidental touches. To some extent, he enjoys the concept of self-restraint(...) and begins both his professional and romantic relationships rather carefully - so not having to worry about whether he's not touching someone too much or too little - and instead focusing on not touching them at all - should be quite refreshing for him tbh? He may want to touch sometimes, particularly after spending a LOT of time together... but being respectful and ensuring his beloved is comfortable is way more important to him.

Griffin: ..... well, Griffin would do her best LOL. They would have to set expectations and really communicate upfront (which you would always be doing with Griffin regardless of touch aversion, lets be real) - what is not on the table, what could be on the table in the future, what MC wants out of a relationship - and if MC is prepared to discuss these topics and - most importantly, if MC is 100% ready for a relationship - in all likelihood a touch averse MC will be able to make things work with Griffin. Just gotta be clear and communicate.

Mia: ngl she can get pretty needy, it might be rough with her...! She'll want to hug when she cries and she can get pretty insecure about herself, so I wouldddn't super recommend a touch averse MC getting into a romantic relationship with Mia... Communication can be rocky with her even when both sides try their best. But gosh she'd treat touch averse MC sooo well in the time they spend together, if MC would allow Mia to cook and pamper!!!

so i just recently followed you bc of the destiel wedding anniversary valentines exchange event you are holding. and i saw you have a Fic. i read the summary last night. thought it might be my jam and planned to read it tonight. and i did. i just read it. i feel like i exploded. i dont know how to put this into the words i want especially bc its 3am and i just read the fic for the first time. but ohhhh my god. the way you captured dean and cas' character and the way they speak and interact. the tension and the knowing but not acting on it. and i dont think i can even start unpacking dean's entire inner monologue. you tore something out of me that i didnt know was there and put it into words. and after reading it i immediately turned on the lights im my room and started pacing. i have so many thoughts i am not able to unpack enough to put into words. i feel like i could run a marathon right now...oh my god this ask is already too long but i have so much i need to say. your writing in that fic is so impressive. it is so tangible and i want to marinate in it for so long with no outside disruptions. how do i ignore every single responsibility in my life so i can read it until i have it memorized. i feel like its already a part of me but i also need to read it again and again. Introducing Nero!

General info!

Nero is 21 years old and his birthday is the 12th July

He stands at about 6’0 but often wears platforms which make him closer to 6’3

His dad is an executive in a mafia family and owns a large business to act as a coverup. Nero will be taking over for him eventually so he’s majoring in business

However, he’s also minoring in English Literature as he adores reading and writing poems and he wanted to become a writer himself at some point

Despite his intimidating demeanour, Nero is actually a massive hopeless romantic and you can’t really tell how… passionate he is if you ever get the chance to read one of his poems

Nero is often seen carrying around cigarettes, although he doesn’t actually smoke. There was a misunderstanding once where someone assumed he wanted a cigarette when he came over to them, and since then people have assumed that’s what he wants whenever he approaches someone

He has a younger sister whom he absolutely adores and would do anything to keep her happy. She loves painting his nails and playing with his hair so he keeps them both long for her

He’s also in charge of looking after her a lot so he’s getting close to househusband material. He’s amazing at cleaning and getting it done super fast, but cannot cook for the life of him. He’s trying his hardest to get better at it though

Nero has partial heterochromia in his left eye!

He has tattoo’s from his father’s mafia family on his back and right arm. He covers the one on his arm with bandages so he doesn’t look as unapproachable or scary, but the bandages make it looks like he gets in lots of fights so it’s slightly counter intuitive

He’s an ambivert. There are times where he has to be social and interact with lots of people, and he doesn’t mind too much. But he also loves to spend a lot of time cooped up in his house doing nothing

Not a hc, but a fun fact abt his design! The lip piercing he has is called an angel bite and he has pointy jewellery to mimic vampire teeth! This is bc the human votes won, but it was a super close call between him being an angel or a vampire if he was non human. Just a cute lil easter egg 💕

Yandere type!

Nero is obsessive first and foremost. When he falls for someone, he falls hard and all his thoughts and actions revolve around them

His poems go from being about the feeling of wanting to experience love and a relationship, to cryptic but heavily detailed confessions to the object of his desires

He’s also quite protective of them as well. He knows that because of his father’s line of work, he has a target on his back as well and that it is probably extended towards his darling, so he goes above and beyond in ‘protecting’ them. Even if they’re not aware that he’s made it his job to watch over them 24/7

His persistence comes about from the perceived lack of sincerity that his darling assumes he holds

No matter how many times he asks them out to a nice fancy restaurant, or a cute little picnic, or on a world famous cruise, or even just to go see a movie. He’s not very outwardly expressive so every invitation seems to hold a tinge of insincerity, no matter how genuine he’s trying to be

The constant rejections won’t stop him or deter him though. They usually go right over his head as he continues to follow his darling around for the rest of the day

Even if they don’t enjoy his presence, he’s still gonna be right there next to him as often as he can be. He likes being close to them and it helps keep the others away as well

If his darling willingly lets him hang around them though? Well he’s got this excited air around him the entire day, the positivity practically radiating off of him. Which is actually helpful, since just looking at his expression would make you think he’s regretting even asking

His darling’s friends are absolutely not invited to hang out though. Just having his darling acknowledge someone else is enough to set him over the edge, let alone if he hears them planning outings together or anything like that

He knows he doesn’t have the right to monopolise his darling’s time, but he just can’t help but want to keep them all to himself without any pests bothering them. What’s more romantic than being the only person in each other’s lives?

He views his darling way above him. Nero knows he’s by no stretch of the imagination a good person. Especially considering the ties to the mafia through his father. Compared to him, his darling is practically a saint that can do no wrong

I just started my own simblr after being inspired by you. Do you have any tips how to get started bc i feel kinda alone on my feed and its discouraging:(

oh anon i totally get what you're saying, i felt that way for a long time while i was starting out on simblr, it's only really in the last year or so that i've started to feel like a part of the community, but i've actually been posting since about 2020 so i know how discouraging it can be when you feel like you're talking to the aether a little bit! <3

in terms of getting your posts out there, using the right tags is important, i use a variety of tags related to sims 3 & the challenges i'm doing so that anyone searching up that kind of content or following those tags will see my posts

i also think interacting with other simblrs is very very important - like, reblog & comment on other people's stuff that you like, and if they see that you're posting stuff too, most people will reciprocate the effort with your stuff! almost everyone i've met on simblr has been totally lovely and if you drop them a message or comment or ask about how much you're enjoying their content they're bound to be grateful and help you out too

my final tip isn't for everyone, but i noticed that my posts only really started getting way more traction when i had something else to offer besides just gameplay stuff, think of something that you're good at, whether it be building lots, creating sims, tutorials, maybe even cc / mod making, and consider whether you can upload that thing for the community to enjoy

personally, i'm somewhat proficient when it comes to altering settings of nraas mods, which is not something that i thought would be useful to other people, but i kept getting asks about how i created aliens for my strangetown save so i posted my first nraas tutorial on how to create aliens, and then suddenly my blog received an influx of followers, as it exposed my gameplay posts to more people who might be interested in them

i hope that advice is helpful, if you come off anon and drop me a message i can give you some more specific tips related to your blog, but i wouldn't consider myself to be a simblr expert by any means (i struggle with comparing myself to others a lot) so take everything i say with a grain of salt!

Lots of hcs for HS fc au bc I’m bored :3

•Tyler eventually ends up spending most of his days at Jacks house. It’s less hectic, Jacks mom is like the mom he never had, he loves jack (dUH), and is allowed to act more like himself there. Tylers mom doesn’t care at all that much that Tyler is never home. Tyler never tells her where he goes/stays.

•Tyler was the one who got the most attached first. He follows him around everywhere and picks on him. It takes Jack a while to realize Tylers ‘picking’ is just him trying to play around with him and his way of initial way of interacting with him. As time goes by Tyler gets more kind & thoughtful (he will forever be a bit of a jerk tho)

•Jack is friends with Marla before Tyler. Marla and Jack are outcasts so they ended up hanging out together. Well more like Marla started talking to him because she noticed he’s always by himself too.. and she liked how weird he is like Tyler likes as well.

•Marla doesn’t trust Tyler at all at first because Tyler runs with the more popular crowd & he used to make Jack actually a little annoyed with the teasing so she’s confused why Tyler all the sudden is always joined at Jacks hip.

It’s only when Jack starts talking really fondly of Tyler or she can start seeing for herself he has no bad intentions, she will start to care less and less about Tyler being around.

I think Tyler would take a slight interest in her too since she’s probably the only goth person he’s met

(💀 honestly it’s just funny thinking about how Jack was like •_• and never bothered anyone but two people (Tyler & Marla) just randomly decided they wanted to be a part of this quiet guys life.)

•oh yeah, I feel like this should take place in a town that’s like.. u drive out and ur in the country but the schools more into the city. Marla is in the city near Jack while Tyler is in a trailer park. This AU would probably be late 90s early 00s too.

•Tyler abandons his friend group for Marla and Jack because he loves how those two aren’t suck ups like his old usual friends are & just finds himself having really interesting conversations with them both. He finds comfort in knowing those two think like him… well he still tries to push more of his opinions on life and whatnot onto them but they at least truly listen and Marla slightly argues back and points out the flaws in what he’s saying/argues back a bit. (She agrees with him on most things but yknow how Tyler can get a little too extreme lol)

•Tyler thought the two would leave him after his first real bad manic episode around them but they don’t. Marla might be kinda pissed if he did something dangerous or said something really rude and Jack might as well but they assure him it’s nothing. Jack & Marla are ‘messed up in the head’ as well so they can’t really say anything. They just empathize with him.

It scares him a bit that it doesn’t make them leave him bc that’s what he’s used to :,/ and he knows sometimes he really screws up so he doesn’t get why they won’t leave.. because he really cares about them.

•After Tyler just leaves all his old friends for Marla & Jack, Those three become that group in school. People probably have made up names for them all or a made up name for the group in general. But it never really gets back to them that often because people still hold respect for Tyler.. it’s just stupid dramatic teen crap.

•Tyler is really good at sports while Marla will just sit out no matter what Tyler says unless it’s something like super easy. Jack on the other hand joins in no matter what if Tyler tells him to. Tyler tells him he needs to get some muscle and stamina because he’s built like a stick.

Tyler won’t do certain things if he doesn’t feel like it though, he’ll just walk those mile long track things with Marla with Jack on his back because Jack is exhausted and not fit at all to walk or run for so long.

•Besides exercise and fighting Jack, Tyler also likes taking pictures and learning guitar around this time. He takes classes where he can do both. He’ll hunt down Marla & Jack during school so he can take pictures of them for the year book even though both will tell him they don’t want extra pictures in it :/ after enough complaining or pushing by Tyler they agree though.

Jack knows how to play the guitar some and they’ll teach each other things they learn :3

•Tyler and Marla are protective of Jack. Jack doesn’t really realize he’s being messed with unless it’s like very clearly obvious so they both have a eye out for him.

Because idk if I’m going crazy but like as a gay person this shit seems borderline homophobic? On the one hand I kinda get where they’re coming from with like the concert “plot” (idk what else to call it 😭), but otherwise seeing how they interact with each other in off-screen/stage moments and their chemistry and the huge ass difference with the entire cast, how they interact with each other vs others, the side couples energy with each other, it’s not that big of a leap… and to imply that it’s dumb or naive for ppl (lots of them queer themselves) to perceive that smells like homophobia to me… idk

I'm hearing a couple of things in your question, part of which I'm guessing is just being able vent (glad to provide the space!) but the crux of which is commenting on the irony of homophobia in Kinnporshe / BL fandom. And yeah. You're not imagining it.

CW: Homophobia. I'm serious, this is your only warning. Some of this really upset me today and I'm pretty good at compartmentalizing.

I saw this after I got your ask and already spent some time thinking about how to respond, but these comments were in response to Tong coming out at KPWT Manila on Tiktok. I hate looking at them, but I'll embed them in case the tweet ever gets deleted as a reminder that EQUALITY IS NOT REAL IN THIS WORLD.

I won't lie, this hurt my feelings a lot and it's not even about me. I spent half a second being mad before just being sad about this for hours.

I've been into BL for so long, I am tired of this round-about argument we keep having over women, many of whom are queer or questioning, enjoying queer stories where the characters are male. There are culturally-adept literary and queer studies scholars who do research on this.

That being said, a not-small proportion of the fan base is made people who are genuinely homophobic and use BL as their fantasy. Just like watching lesbian porn doesn't make straight men allies, neither does watching BL make straight women allies. I am too exhausted to explain why they do but it's basically a mix of misogyny in not wanting to see other female actors opposite an actor you like but also using queer men as placeholders for your fantasy. Sometimes in fiction, but other times in reality.

I'm with @mirrorofprinces, we need to attack more homophobes for this. 😒😒😒 no more fighting over gay rights, time for KPTS-inspired gay wrongs and gay violence on the gaygenda.

The "delulu" and "it's just fanservice" comments are...indeed kind of homophobic. I respect people who don't want to comment on or interpret their relationship, like you said, or interpret it differently. And it kind of sucks to be like "well some people will be homophobic and you have to share a space with them" in fandom about a queer story, but how do you confront people, some of whom are happy to be openly homophobic, about homophobia that is more nuanced?

But I think one thing that undermines MileApo's authenticity is that BibleBuild do so much fan service despite also claiming not to. Fan service is a Thai BL industry standard with other actor pairs. And as a reality check to myself, I have looked at some of those pairs interacting and yeah. Definitely brotherly or fan service there.

The other part of the problem is young people, especially after the pandemic, genuinely do not seem to know what normal human interaction looks like, including the difference between what's fake and what's real AND what's platonic vs. what's flirty or romantic affection.

As for what my friends/moots think, here's @mellowroxy and @cookiedoughfiesta's thoughts from August about Mile saying he was in love with Apo about the "delulu" comments. (Though let's be real... sometimes the fandom is also... a bit much 🤣🤣🤣)

When I talked to Yams (@mellowroxy) about this earlier, here's what she had to add on to the point:

Me: fans were freaking out when Tom called Zendaya 'my MJ' on his birthday wish to her, and that's way more subtle than what Mile and Apo are doing

Yams: There wouldn’t be this much push back if it was a guy and girl. Most people would be like “oh another on set romance” and call it a day. On the Zendaya and Tom topic, if this was decades back when interracial couples were taboo as fuck then they wouldn’t come out as well.

A conscious reminder equality has always been hard-fought for.

But trust me, this paradox of people who watch BL who are homophobic have not escaped Mile and Apo's notice either.

And isn't that the crux of it.

Okay so sorry if this is a little jumpy I'm having a so far two-day long anxiety attack anyway-

We got assigned seating in history and i got sat next to the biggest cunt wad i have ever met i fucking despise her and she's my desk partner

hi there nonnie... omg wow it's been such a long time since I've actually posted on this blog. thank you so much for the concern and to anyone else who's asked about me.

to give a quick tldr as to what happened with saekogun exactly: I took a break from writing right around a point in my life where I was both very busy, and slowly becoming more and more happy. the break turned out to be much longer than I thought it would be, and I one day decided to get rid of saekogun. my mental health has improved immensely, and I just wanted to say hello again.

I will start this off by saying I am very much alive and well. at the start of my first semester last year I decided to take a break from writing so that I could focus on my classes and internship and... just about everything else life had in store for me. it was initially supposed to be a short two week break, which is why I had initially never posted about it. but as more and more time went on, big (good) things kept happening in my life, and I had felt as if my mental health had additionally improved being away from tumblr. I decided that, for the sake of my mental well-being, I would not return for quite some time until I was fully stable enough to do so.

tumblr was a really weird source of turmoil in my life back then, which is kind of funny to say now that I look back on it (it sounds sooooo unserious, I know I know). I never talked about this openingly on my blog, but I did struggle a lot with my mental health, especially as someone with bpd. during the time that I wrote for saekogun, I had consistent and heavy episodes and mood swings. I knew no one else with bpd nor did I have someone I could talk about it with, so I felt a bit alone.

I felt very alone in my struggles and used tumblr as a sort of crutch and aid and it helped. immensely. but it also hurt me in different ways. I treated tumblr as a big responsibility in my life and it felt like I had a full time job as a content creator. I'm also neurodivergent and my executive function issues were beating me up without remorse. this was at a point in my life where I really did not have time for running my blog, but writing and interacting with the lovely following I had generated felt great. it was just too much for me though unfortunately, so I decided to move on.

I decided that I would keep the blog up running so that people could still enjoy it in my absence. however, one night after thinking on it for months I decided to just get rid of it. it sounds odd, but now that I was healing, that blog was just too representative and tied to a bad era of my life for me to want it to keep existing. so I banished it into the void, never to be seen again.

a lot of stuff has happened between now and then. to keep things short and sweet, I'm a lot happier now. I won't say things are absolutely perfect, because not everything can be of course, but I feel as though I've healed and grown. some amazing things have happened and for the first time in years I experienced true joy for a very long period of time. I'll stop myself from rambling before I get too cheesy and corny. but just know that it fr does get better y'all. I'm so glad I've lived long enough to a point where I can confidently say that.

I have a lot of regrets when it comes to saekogun. I definitely was not the best blog runner. I was constantly behind on asks and projects and I made lots and lots of mistakes when it came to my posting schedules and how I handled asks. I had so many asks that I never got to and made so many promises I couldn't keep. for that I deeply and utterly apologize. I do wish that I had done better and am sorry to those who've I disappointed. I thank everyone who had took the time to send something in and put time and energy into my blog.

another regret I have is not saving the color blue before I had gotten rid of the blog. that story is unfortunately lost to time itself since I don't have any portion of it saved. which sucks because if there was anything I'd continue to write about here from my old blog, it'd be that, but I have no access to it now.

I'm also sorry for anyone I have worried in my absence. I really should have made a post sooner, but I honestly had no idea what to say. I didn't know how to come back, and the longer I took to say anything, the harder it got.

I am beyond grateful for everything you've all had done for me, and for sticking around and checking up on me, and for enjoying my content in the first place. I cannot put into words how much it means to me for people to have cared about my silly little degenerate posts. from the bottom of my heart, I seriously thank you all. I also thank my sweet anons, old mutuals, and any followers who are still here.

now, onto the big question: will I ever write for this blog again? the answer is... iffy. I often fantasize about being able to write again, but the truth is I'm not into genshin anymore whatsoever, which is an issue since my primary fandom was always genshin. at some point after sumeru's initial release, I was simply just not as into the game anymore, and was too busy to actually sit down and play. I have no idea what's going on lore or game wise, and anything thats happened fandom wise either.

unfortunately, I'm not interested in getting back into genshin, so I'm very sorry to disappoint anyone who was hoping for more content like what I used to create.

however, I love writing. and I'm still really into yanderes and dark fiction as a whole. but I'm currently not into any fandoms that I think people would really be interested in so I don't think I have much to offer in terms of content. so for now, it's a... maybe? I guess we can talk about that as time goes by.

this is absolutely not to promise I'll actually be back though. I'm not sure if I'd be able to run a blog still to be honest, atleast not consistently. but I would love to drop by and post a little something every now and then and talk with you all.

I’m that anon and this might sound over the top but I genuinely feel so so so heard right now because for the longest time when I followed them their takes and the way Taylor just fully consumes their life made me feel drained. I remember always side eyeing how they would conveniently side step criticising Taylor whenever she would genuinely mess up like saying oh they’re not a part of that group so they don’t want to take up space but it’s like okay I get it, hell I can even respect that but why aren’t you reblogging posts criticising Taylor made by the people she has directly hurt from her actions then. the way that fans go into dissecting very minute details over there sometimes made me think of how inevitable it is for Taylor to not grow and change cuz these are the blogs that always filled up Taylor’s feed and realistically fans like this is what she’s exposed to and on a human level I can’t imagine being treated as if every minor action of mine is worth extensive praise. The mental development of a celebrity impacted by being placed on such high pedestals has always intrigued me. I won’t lie there was a time, whenever I came home from school I would sit and obsessively consume only Taylor content and would be very defensive over her in real life as well but ( and I’m not trying to be super judgemental here) I can’t imagine being that committed to protecting, coddling, praising and borderline worshipping somebody like that when I know that individual never even considers my existence for like a second, I genuinely can’t imagine doing this for years and years and never growing past it especially with everything Taylor has done.

teresa/brenda/thomas for the ship ask!!

so, truth be told, i admit i've been putting off answering this for.. A While. the main reason being that i have a Difficult capital D relationship with book!brenda. severely dislike her, got a major problem with her behavior, think she's a very poorly written character, especially combined with teresa's storyline. i could go into more detail but i won't, unless someone explicitly wants to hear about it.

that being said, in bookverse i think a brenderemas angle and viewpoint on the whole story and the dynamic between the characters could only improve the whole mess. especially considering brenda was basically the og thomesa shipper in fever code - namely:

brenda brings up thomas doesn't seem to have been very nice to teresa lately. that teresa obviously cares about him, and basically she probes for whether there aren't any feelings between them. when thomas says "She means the world to me, and nothing will ever change that. but it's kinda hard to be romantic when you have a dying world outside your home and your friends are stuck inside an experiment.", this part follows:

Brenda seemed disappointed. "Yeah, but come on. People love, Thomas. Best of times, worst of times. People love. You should make sure she knows how you feel. That's all I'm saying."

so if we take that to assume she thinks there's some sort of romantic feelings between thomas and teresa, and she wants for them to be happy, then the events of the main trilogy could be explained as follows: brenda liked thomas during the fever code era already when she first got to know him. catch being: she also started to like teresa during that the time.

so she's kind of put in a position where she gets to interact with thomas more once the scorch trials start--but her whole jealousy angle is not just a jealousy for the closeness she knows thomas and teresa shared, but also goes in both direction: she's not only jealous thomas likes teresa, she's also jealous that teresa likes thomas. (.. and not her)

insert a whole lot of internalized homophobia (thanks to trashner and his non-depiction of anything canonically queer we don't know how the sentiments regarding queerness are in the universe of course, but lets just go with a similar vibe to ours in this case), not understanding her feelings for teresa, the suppressed feelings turning to animosity and maybe that would shape up to a better image than what canon reading presents at first? that's really the best i can do for bookverse hah.

all of this being said, as you know your fic space for the traveling stars (linked so interested followers can access it easily, rated T) did somewhat change my perception of brenda, and gave me a point of empathy for why she could be the way she is, especially in the books.

then in the movies i think the whole thing is much easier. brenda's a (in my opinion) much more coherent and palpable character, with a genuine dynamic of care and closeness with thomas. the way for the 3 of them there would probably be that they'd blossom into an polyamorous relationship in safe haven. actually that could be a fun scenario to explore!

with thomas having a lot of confusing and conflicting feelings regarding the both of them, until there's some sort of realization that he can love two people at the same time. i'd think him and teresa would be a thing first, after the kiss and the forgiveness and all. but it'd probably be hard with how all the others think about her, so she might not have too much contact with the others. and thomas and brenda could grow closer on their own.

i always find the 2 outer points of the "V" in an ot3 connecting one of the most thrilling parts of it - makes me think of lots of possibilities where teresa and brenda could grow closer in safe haven. specifically brenda would have to need to wrap her head around a whole lot before she could come to understand and like teresa ("same dick who betrayed us?" anyone lol).

that was a nice thought experiment, yay!

finally, AUs are an entirely different thing: there i love the 3 of them together! i think their characters can have wonderful dynamics (though there, too, i i find the trenda part of the triad the most difficult to get into. thomesa and brenderesa just come much more naturally to me (which is probably also why it was easiest to write your tmrss the way i did, with us only getting to see trenda once it was already established and working).

Concepts for new Life Series mechanics

along with why I’d like to see each mechanic being used

(this is just my way of coping with this week’s session kjsdlfka)

Common/Shared Life:

at the start of the season, all players are randomly placed together in teams of 3-5 people (depending on the amount of players that season). Each team shares a “pool of lives” so to say, meaning that when one member of the team dies, everyone experiences a loss as a result (they don’t have shared health bars though - the players don’t die, they just lose a life). For example, Grian, Martyn and Scott are teamed; they share a pool of 9 lives (bc that’s the amount of lives they theoretically would have put together. 3x3=9). If Grian dies, their pool of lives would be reduced to 8 lives. Martyn and Scott, who’ve been chilling in the nether in this hypothetical scenario, don’t die, which means they don’t have to run all the way back to the spot they died to get their stuff, and can instead go home the normal way.

This goes on until the pool only has the same amount of lives left as members of the team. Following that, the team functionally dissolves, each member being given one of the lives and placed on Red. Using the past example, if Grian, Martyn and Scott had four lives in their pool, and one of them died, the team would dissolve and they all become Reds. They’re not tied to each other by any game mechanic anymore only their emotional bonds if they have any lol

Why I want this mechanic used: mostly just to see more dynamics tbh. At this point in the Life Series, I feel like most of the dynamics/team-ups are starting to repeat (see Cleo and Scott, Cleo and Bdubs, Bdubs and Etho, Team BEST and Team TIES, Grian and Jimmy, Grian and Joel etc). THAT’S NOT A BAD THING IN ANY WAY! After all, this series is first and foremost about them having fun with their friends, so it makes sense they gravitate towards the people they. y’know. are close friends with. But still, one of my favorite things about Double Life is that it caused interactions and dynamics we probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise. I’d love to see all of the members interact more with one another, be it through team-ups or simply being dependent on each other bc of the game mechanics.

this mechanic, I think, would have a similar effect, but still allow the players more freedom in how they react to the team dynamic. In Double Life, the consequences of your soulmate dying were harsh, so even if you weren’t teamed with your soulmate, you’d still want to make sure they didn’t get both of you killed. But with this, while you probably still wouldn’t want your pool to lose lives, i think the consequences are less severe. you won’t have to go through the hassle of respawn, and in the end, no matter what, your last life belongs fully to you.

So, in conclusion, would bring forth dynamics we wouldn’t get otherwise, while still allowing enough freedom to do your own thing.

Targeted Life (name pending)

at the beginning of each session, a Hitman and a Target are randomly rolled (similar to Boogeyman. It’s also only Greens and Yellows). The Hitman has the task of killing their Target until the end of the session. If they succed, they recieve a life (kinda like the receiving time mechanic from Limited Life). If they fail, they automatically become next session’s Target.

The Target doesn’t know they’re the Target (unless, of course, they were last session’s failed Hitman). There will be, however, a third role each session; The Spy. The Spy will be informed of both the Hitman’s and the Target’s identity when they’re assinged their role. They can choose what to do with that information; tell the Target, sell it to the Target, blackmail the Hitman etc.

Why I want this mechanic used: it’s like the time-stealing mechanic of Limited Life, just with the chaos being more... contained, I guess? It’s also similar to the Boogeyman curse that you are *forced* to make the kill. However, it also introudes the concept of a pre-determined victim - great for heartbreaking betrayals between allies or for panicked planning bc your Target is much better than you at PvP

It also has mafia vibes, which I think most of the fandom would eat right up lol

he loves sour foods and lemons

he also really likes sweets/junk food but he’ll never admit it

he enjoys listening to music without any words

he also really likes art like pottery, tapestries, and any other type of art that is more like hands on(if that makes sense)

it says things without needing words so he’ll often make you things

obviously he adores animals but he has a whole snow white thing going on

also he can definitely sing he’s just too embarrassed to ever do it

he secretly loves playing in the snow with you and Inanna

he has a hidden garden where he grows you flowers

he’s a very strong swimmer bc he grew up on the docks but he prefers swimming in lakes

he likes dressing up fancy but he pretends he doesn’t

my evidence for this is in his route when you’re in the Arcana Realms and he wants to get out of his gladiator outfit he changes into his masquerade outfit

he can’t dance unless you guide him very carefully but once he gets into the rhythm he can follow your lead just fine

he slouches SO much

like it brings him from 6’10 to 6’4

it’s partly because he doesn’t like being big and scary but also because he hits his head on everything

you have to convince him to raise the ceiling in your house because the door is shorter than him

if you convince him to sing he has one of those voices where you can feel it reverberating in your chest but it’s very soothing

almost like how rain noises help people sleep

idk if that makes sense i’m basing it off how my friend sounds

when he starts eating food made with lots of love by either Portia, you, or your other friends he’s genuinely shocked at how good it tastes

he starts to learn about different spices and how they go together

before he was eating to survive but now he starts eating with his own joy in mind

he’s still not picky but he takes note of what he likes

he names all of his chickens

they all have goofy names

one is named after you but with “jr” at the end

only he can tell the difference between the chickens because they generally look the same

no matter how long you’ve been together he still gets super flustered when you compliment him

he’s better at social interaction but it makes it a million times easier when you hold his hand

his hands are calloused but very gentle

he loves when you kiss him on the forehead

sometimes when he hugs you and is very excited he’ll pick you up off the ground accidentally

if he isn’t having a nightmare, he doesn’t move at all when he’s asleep

you rest your head on his chest to sleep and he just looks and admires you till he’s tired

the homestuck reread, pt 4

a while ago, i asked if anybody wanted me to recap alterniabound separate from a5a2, and people said yes. its been too long now and i cant remember what the fuck happened in it, so im not going to do that. but i WILL recap meenahbound instead, as a sort of tradeoff. this works out bc i have too much to say about meenahbound and the a6a3 post was already too long.

if youre new here, im rereading homestuck through the unofficial collection and every now and again, ill make a little recap to get my thoughts in order, remember whats happened, and write down my opinions on it. you can read these recaps from the beginning here.

meenahbound is a series of minigames that take place over the course of a6i3, interspersed with other shenanigans. ive already talked about these other shenanigans, along with the rest of the beginning of a6, in this post. i will be proceeding with the assumption that youre already familiar with that posts contents. with all of that said, lets get into it.

The Plot

a lot of a6i3 centers around the dreambubbles and the quest to stop lord english. at the time of meenahbound pt 1 (hereafter referred to as mb1), le has just killed a whole shitload of bubble ghosts. thus, the excitement and missions.

there are three different plans in place to stop le. the first, and the one we primarily follow, is meenahs plan to assemble a massive army of ghosts and fight him headon. this is the primary driving goal behind meenahbound. the second plan is headed by aranea, who wants to find le's rumored sister, who supposedly has the power to face him. the third is headed by vriska, who seeks to find a rumored treasure holding a secret weapon, said to be his weakness. she searches for this treasure using maps of the void, but the maps are black and featureless until le shatters reality, which adds cracks she can navigate by. because of this, she also decides she needs to assemble an army to serve as a decoy, pretending to search for le's sister and riling him up so that hell destroy reality in the spots she needs to complete the map. i think you can see how all these plans are connecting.

at the end of the intermission, meenah and vriska strife to decide whos plan will win the army, stating that if they tie, theyll compromise. when we see them again later, its clear that thats exactly what happened, and now the three plan leaders are all collaborating.

w all of that said, meenahbound follows meenah as she catches up with her old sessionmates and tries to recruit people for her army, and also just follows karkat around everywhere, due to a crush she seems to be harboring on him. araneas talkbooth marks the end of each minigame, where you receive an update on araneas progress with her quest (zilch, every time. shes been too distracted with her stupid booth), and araneas description of each of the dancestors youve interacted with so far.

in mb1, meenah leaves her castle and begins wandering. she bumps into aradia, dave, rose, and kanaya, and chats with each very briefly before reaching the area with kankri, karkat, porrim, and latula. the player completes a variety of puzzles, interacting with and "being" all characters but karkat, in order to free up karkat to unlock a door and escape the level.

in mb2, meenah discovers karkat has disappeared behind another locked door. a series of chests hidden throughout the level hold keys to the door. the first room has mituna and cronus, and the second has meulin and kurloz. interacting with the latter two correctly unlocks a cutscene wherein kurloz has a creepy meeting with gamzee. when you unlock karkats door, meenah has a convo w karkat about his opinions on alternia, hic, and his dreams of becoming a threshecutioner, where he eventually agrees to join her army if he meets up with her in a bubble later in exchange for becoming her grand thresh. after, karkat goes on a walk and meets up with terezi, who feels insecure compared to her dancestor, and he actually has a really sweet conversation with her where he reassures her about it and shows that hes really moved past his cringy actions in a6a2. after, terezi briefly chats with meenah, before meenah unlocks the aranea end.

in mb3, the first room presents a puzzle with damara, rufioh, and horuss, wherein you untangle the backstory of their relationship drama as you go to unlock the next room. in the second room, meenah can speak with kanaya and porrim to unlock the door to the meteor, and walk around the meteor and interact with dave, rose, and a sleeping karkat, all while supervised by kanaya. after unlocking the door, you can do the same with damara, unsupervised. being damara replaces araneas final booth with a booth run by hussie, who gives shitty rundowns on all of the dancestors. meenah can proceed into the final area, where she meets up with vriska, tavros, and john, which leads up into the aforementioned meenah/vriska strife.

The Characters

i am going to be honest. i have read the dialogue scripts for openbound (openbound meenahbound whatEVER who even cares back in my day everyone called it meenahbound) like a zillion billion times as research for writing projects to make sure i got the dancestors voices just right, so there wasnt a lot here that was new for me, and at any given moment i seem to have both more information abt the dancestors than the average person and more than anyone should have. but ill take some time to touch on all of them here anyway, because lbr, characters are the most important part of hs and at least 75% of why we read it.

before that, though. something that isnt stated often enough about the dancestors is that theyre jokes, and seriously not substantial characters when you try to analyze them sincerely. theyre exaggerated caricatures of mostly tumblr stereotypes. there genuinely is not a lot to them and theyre pretty much all nasty, shitty people, and a lot of them are built on jokes that can come off kind of problematic to outright bigoted. i am not going to get super in depth re: the bigotry bc while im critical of hussie thats not what thsi post is about, but ill probably mention it here and there as it comes up. youll have to research that stuff on your own.

edit: since tumblr user calware just made a post about it and reminded me, just fyi, dancestor = descendant/ancestor, and technically both groups of trolls are dancestors. canonically, meenahs group are the "alpha" trolls, while karkats are the "betas," presumably bc karkats were introduced first?? this has never made sense to me, and has clearly never made sense to anyone else either bc ive heard both groups called both beta and alpha interchangeably. afaik, the only exclusive and clear term is post-scratch and pre-scratch. but im tired and im going to say dancestor bc thats the most popular fandom term and idc

Damara

of all of the dancestors, damara to me is the most.... hhh. her character is built on racist tropes. lets just put that whole thing out there where we can all see it. even the "meek girl" to "vicious, overly sexual, vindictive ex" thing is like. it ALSO builds on racist tropes! so its really difficult to engage with her story at face value, bc the racism is just so... unavoidable.

but her story, as its given to us, is that she was originally kind and friendly, and met rufioh through what is essentially an anime club. they started dating. however, when rufioh began cheating on her w horuss, it made her insecure and sad, and she felt really shitty about the whole thing. these feelings were pushed to a tipping point when meenah got involved and began rubbing it in her face and bullying her about it (more on that when we get to meenah), and she became aggressive and violent. her and meenah got in a huge, long fight, wherein she almost killed meenah, paralyzed rufioh, and according to aranea, she spent the rest of the session tormenting her fellow players and making sure they wouldnt win at any turn. the only time she was cooperative was during the scratch, which seemed to be only because she was certain it would make the others miserable. aranea has theorized part of her turn in personality was due to influence from le, which seems correct, based off of her conversations with rufioh, where she mentions the inevitability of le and her desires to serve him. as far as i can remember, its unknown whether or not she godtiered.

in the afterlife, damara is hostile to everyone, but seems to take particular delight in tormenting rufioh, locking up his lusus, who rufioh describes as his "happy thought." shes overtly sexual and nasty, and its just. rough. the only people she shows any kindness to are (ironically) rufioh (who is also the only dancestor who seems to be able to communicate with her, due to her "thick accent"), and rose and dave. she has a pretty sincere conversation with rufioh, actually, and with the kids shes polite and friendly. however, we see that when she spots a sleeping karkat, she seems to have cruel intentions, and is stopped by terezi, who reacts to her with hostility and wards her off. ive seen some people suspect based off of her interactions with the kids that she actually still is nice, but her interaction with karkat makes it seem like that was a farce, so idk. there are different interpretations, and ive always been inclined to give her the benefit of the doubt.

all in all, she was one of the most unpleasant characters to interact with for me, both because of the horrifying racism and because of the awful things she says. really. did not like it. ive tried to mostly just present facts about her as they appear in the text because i really just. i dont even want to get into her. the whole thing is just too uncomfortable. this is not my suitcase to unpack. ive seen some people do really incredible things with her character in fanworks that i really admire, but the racism makes it difficult to enjoy her in the canon text.

Rufioh

rufioh is pretty obviously a spoof of the character rufio from pan, played by dante basco (who READ the comic and became a pretty prominent (and cringy) member of the fandom for a while. i knew ppl who were in his music video. wild shit). as such, his character makes frequent references to peter pan and lost boys and all that shit. i havent seen pan, so dont ask me to get into that. like tavros, he also struggles with self confidence, but where tavros is bullied constantly, multiple characters assert that rufioh is hit on like constantly, by everyone. hes real hot shit in his session.

rufiohs backstory is that after growing up insecure about his wings, his lusus introduced him to what is simultaneously a lost boys joke and an anime club. he got really into the animes and got way more confident, and also met damara there and started dating her. however, for whatever goddamn reason, horuss one day decided that he didnt hate rufioh (rufioh says he previously acted like he did), and started hitting on rufioh instead, and rufioh wound up cheating on damara with horuss. rufioh is pretty blase about this, referring to it as "hanging out" when he even admits himself that it was a lot more than hanging out, and says that he has no idea why damara got so mad about it. he continues to date horuss well into their session and afterlife, though someone suggests they dated on and off periodically, and at the time of mb2, hes trying to break up with him. hes unsuccessful, and during meenah and vriskas strife, hes seen trying and failing again, and then hitting on an aradiabot. sort of suggests that cheating is a thing with him.

rufioh seems to be one of the only dancestors on good terms with meenah. he mentions appreciating her "standing up for him" with damara. but overall, we get the impression that hes flaky, insecure and yet overconfident when it comes to his attractiveness, aaand a cheater. also, he REALLY likes the animes, and it never gets less terrible to read about.

Mituna

mitunas probably one of the characters we know the least about, in terms of backstory. aranea states the whole thing is clouded in a lot of mystery. we know that as a player of doom, he spent a lot of time trying to warn his session mates about danger early in, and wasnt taken seriously (not unlike sollux). eventually, he used his powers to subvert some great danger, which caused him permanent brain damage. however, the only witness to this event was kurloz, and given that kurloz is nonverbal, theres no saying what really happened.

mituna fluctuates wildly between aggressive, sexual, and rude, and overly apologetic and meek. this is no doubt a joke about how solluxs bipolar disorder was often exaggerated in fancontent. its not unusual for people with frontal lobe damage to undergo personality changes wherein theyre uncharacteristically aggressive and sexual, but mituna is a joke character, so its questionable whether or not its worth even analyzing him through that framework. something about ableism and hussie and hussies handling of disabled characters here. however, on the subject of his disability, i will say- things mituna is NOT: a fragile, cute, uwu sadboy who relies on kurloz and latula for everything. infantilizing disabled people is CRINGE.

mituna is a huge play on stereotypes about 4chan users. his text background is different from everyone elses, sporting the 4chan text box, and using shitty, handdrawn memes as reaction images. he uses "racist slurs" against seadwellers (which, while kankri does describe them as slurs, kankri also acknowledges that theyre in no way equivalent to slurs used against members of the lower castes due to the fact that lowbloods dont hold political power over seadwellers), aaand some pretty sexist language, in keeping with most perverted characters in homestuck (i think equius might be the only exception, somehow???). he skateboards, and hes a game bro.

Kankri

kankri is one big joke about sjw bloggers on tumblr. drill that all the way into your brain and keep it there. he is easily the least understood of all of the dancestors, due to the fact that his text is unreadable to most people and ridiculously long, so im just going to say right fucking now, where we can all see it: kankri is not sweet. kankri is not naive. kankri is also not an aggressive, badass bully. celibacy =/= asexuality or aromanticism, and you are doing the entirety of the aspec community a disservice when you equate it as such. celibacy also =/= sexual naivety, and neither does aromanticism or asexuality!!!!! god. if youre a kankri fan youre probably my worst enemy, but ive been analyzing kankris character back to front up and down for years, and i do actually like him, so i will be gracious and give you my thoughts so you can be less annoying.

the backstory were given on kankri is relatively limited. he was (perhaps self) designated the leader of the dancestor session, and tried to enforce order through the use of long, insufferable memos, similar to karkat. however, the contents of his memos were largely just the same shit we see from him in the afterlife, and ineffective. he says hes celibate and that hes sworn off wordly possessions, as a part of his whole holier-than-thou, priestly shit, but he also very obviously has a massive crush on latula (which is like, karkats worst moments when interacting with terezi, cranked up to a ten), and claims that the sweater porrim made him actively goes against his worldly possession thing, so. take all that how you will, i guess. unlike signless, his seer powers were never fully realized, having never godtiered, and he also says that he disagrees with signless's methods and disapproves of the rebellion due to the violence and swears involved. a lot of his schtick is an extension of the troll jesus joke with signless, with references made to priesthood and sermons and shit like that, and its safe to assume pacifism would be included, despite how hilarious it would be if kankri just had a shitload of guns named trigger warning.

so now its time to talk about kankris activism.

most of the time, when talking about social justice theory, its impossible to tackle every single problematic thing in the world. at a certain point you just have to assume the person youre talking to is smart enough to make some assumptions on their own, ie; not picking apart the nuances of the variety of forms aspectrum identity takes and the possibility that someone on the aspectrum could also be celibate when saying, hey, equating celibacy and aspectrum identity is bad. yes, i could have gotten into every single little detail about that, but you guys are smarter than that, and thats a lot of words that i dont need to force you to read, or myself to write. however, kankri does not do this. kankri includes all the disclaimers. thats how he gets those massive, long tangents- bc hes trying to cover everything, regardless of the degree of relevance.

how much does kankri actually buy into his own "activism," though? how much of it is legit? well... its difficult to say, because kankri is a joke. theres a very good chance that hussie takes absolutely nothing kankri says seriously, and all of it is a joke and meaningless horseshit (which im sure says something about hussies views on social justice, but this isnt that post). but ignoring that, and looking at it as though it might all be sincere, he does make some valid points. kankris strongest moments of sincere activism are usually when hes talking about castism- an issue that impacts him directly. while some of the things he says may appear silly upon first view- such as the existence of off-caste trolls, mutants, polyblooded trolls, or trolls who identify with a different part of the spectrum than theyve been assigned- we could take these to be sincere issues. what if someone does have a color that doesnt fit neatly into the caste system? how would they identify, and what would that mean for their position in the system? after all, kankri and karkat are off-spectrum, and lime bloods are notorious for not fitting properly into the system. so, we could take kankris opinions on the caste system to be largely sincere, especially given the sensitivity he shows towards being coddled.

(which, is a good time for a side tangent about beforan culling. on beforus, culling is the act of highbloods taking in lowbloods who are deemed unfit to take care of themselves, in a system that frankly seems similar to the conservatorships disabled people are often forced into in our society. we only hear about this through kankri, so its possible that the system isnt that bad, but its easy to see how something like this could become dangerous, abusive, controlling, and infantilizing. obviously, kankri would be at major risk for culling on beforus. the only time we really see kankri get pissed is when porrim acts motherly to him- an act which may feel reminiscent of culling. he hates feeling coddled or infantilized, and makes a point to talk about his own autonomy and independence, telling karkat that hes going to wander around "autonomously." its a pretty weird word to just drop, but he sure does use it!)

however, when it comes to other issues, it becomes foggier. kankri states outright that he doesnt give a shit about gendered roles on beforus, and that theres nothing to the discussion, as its "unimportant and detracts from more important issues" (summarizing, here). this is OBVIOUSLY a load, bc he clearly has no hesitation in bringing up trivial shit when it relates to caste. it seems like he just refuses to engage with it out of some stubborn rebellion against porrim. when it comes to ableism, kankri... seems to care, but also seems to hold a large amount of disdain for disabled people and uses a lot of ableist language and rhetoric, leaving me with the impression that while he thinks hes an ally, he hasnt done any of the unpacking necessary. he says absolutely nasty shit about mituna regarding mitunas disability, and he also talks a lot of shit about how latula overcoming her disability is an inspiration, which is just. yeah, its inspiration porn in action. hes totally ableist as fuck. when it comes to cronus and horuss's kinning shit, he makes it clear he doesnt buy into it at all and thinks theyre delusional, and takes a, "but their delusions make them happy and we should respect that despite thinking theyre stupid" approach that reminds me of christians or atheists talking about other peoples belief systems with disdain. ykwim?

kankri is arrogant and self-centered. his activism stops with its relevant to himself, and he frequently uses it as a vehicle to insult or look down on others. he slut shames porrim, and then loudly proclaims how wrong slut shaming is, while slut shaming her again. he makes fun of skateboarding, he rags on mitunas disability, hes creepy towards latula and doesnt notice when it makes her uncomfortable, he basically drags karkat around and rants at him, and he just.... views everyone else as beneath him, really. hes a fucking asshole, and literally like no one likes him, except cronus (but only as far as kankri sticks up for him or lets him hit on him) and maybe latula, and maybe, maybe porrim. altho fr, porrim and kankri do not have a cute, sweet, mother/son relationship. its more like porrim tries to mother him and he hates it really fucking bad, and then she violates his boundaries and does it again. there is also an instance where kankri suspects porrim of flirting with him and goes off on how disgusting he thinks it would be to date her, likening it to "human incest." so thats there. other characters reference them having a cute mother/son relationship, but its kind of just a joke hussies doing, and i think the joke just kind of... flew over fandoms head.

"leo, this all sounds terrible, why the fuck do you even like this guy" because hes hysterical. hes a giant fucking tool and its so, so funny.

Meulin

meulin is the shippy catgirl. she is literally just like, fanon nepeta, basically. shes a joke about tumblr fandom. shes overexcited about ships and gossip and constantly squeeing and saying omg so fast that it turns into a keysmash, resulting in her frequently using mispellings of omg instead (not JUST mog, but other ones too). shes friendly, forgetful, and honestly pretty cute. it seems like her and nepeta get along really well, which, good for them.

the only backstory we get is in regards to her relationship with kurloz. after falling asleep together one time, kurloz woke up from a nightmare screaming so loud that it caused meulin permanent hearing loss. shes said to be gifted in matchmaking, but has terrible luck with relationships of her own, and thats pretty obvious given her relationships with kurloz and horuss. kurloz and her arent together anymore, but theyre still close friends, and we see that kurloz has been using chucklevoodoos to force her to assist him in serving le, which have caused her severe memory loss, to the point where she doesnt even remember disliking meenah, despite the fact that meenah killed her. aranea comments that she seems to have taken after kurloz's clown religion, occasionally slipping up and saying something about it. her relationship with horuss doesnt seem significantly better, honestly, with them only getting together because equius and nepeta looked so good together, and horuss mentioning that he finds her repulsive due to her lower caste.

anyway, meulin is shit deaf representation. she lipreads and "mimes," which is just like.... a gif of her fingerspelling random shit while some generic tumblr fandom gif plays, and she always yells. its just kind of fucking terrible. the fandom gifs are supposed to be like a joke and stuff, but whether or not it lands is questionable.

Porrim

one of porrims big gimmicks is the motherhood thing, playing off of the dolorosa and kanayas role in breeding the genesis frog and the next mother grub. as such, shes extremely motherly, particularly towards characters like kankri, karkat, and kanaya. ive already mentioned how kankri hates this and the role it plays within the wider context of beforan culling, so i wont get into it again.

another one is the fact that she gets around. i imagine this is meant to be a contrast to the virgo signs themes of virginity, which hussie has talked about before in the formspring. we dont know exactly how many people shes dated or who, but kankri slut shames her, aranea mentions her dating a lot of people, and porrim also implies that shes dated a lot of people. we know that she and aranea dated, but other than that, i dont think anything is explicit. she has a close relationship with latula that ill touch on more in latulas part, and her relationship with kankri is commonly interpreted as pale (tho again, refer to kankris portion), but its entirely up for interpretation.

the biggest and probably most infamous thing, though, is her feminism. its pretty hotly debated whether or not it has any grounds, or if, like kankri claims, its just a distraction from more serious issues. like with kankri, its difficult to say for sure and how much of this aspect of her character is just a big joke hussies making. shes portrayed more favorably than kankri, though, and doesnt really rant and rave about it the way he does, so perhaps we can interpret it to be more serious.

porrim believes that despite alternia and beforus being technically matriarchies, theres still a power imbalance with regards to gender roles. this is informed largely by her background as a jade blood working in the caverns. the jade caste is almost exclusively female, and she grew to really resent both her role and her identity as a woman. however, later, she reclaimed her gender identity and realized (as many feminists do, honestly) that the gender roles forced on her dont have to control her relationship to womanhood, and she can both protest these roles and take pride in being a woman. porrim points out that while the fuschia class is exclusively female, the other high bloods (violets, purples, and indigos) are majority male, and as theres usually only one or two fuschias at a time, most of alternian and beforus society is still controlled by men. in addition to this, she takes an issue with the way that two of the most powerful women on alternia, hic and the handmaid, are functionally puppets of le.

so, is there grounds to this? ehh. its hard to say for sure. ill play devils advocate and look at it from the other perspective. certainly, gendered roles exist, though we dont really know what they look like on beforus, and on alternia they overwhelmingly seem to swing in womens favor (with the exception of the jades, but given that there are sometimes male jades who are treated equally, perhaps this could be posited as more of an issue of casteism?). tavros is made fun of for engaging in "womens games" (flarp), which are violent and dangerous. the women in karkats session are overwhelmingly more aggressive and dangerous than the men, and even equius, whos supposed to be the strongest, ultimately never lays a hand on anyone. the point about the VPIs controlling most of the power is pretty real, but hic wasnt controlled by le at all during the majority of her rule on alternia, and its questionable how significant of a role the handmaid actually had in everyday troll life and mythology. maybe it just feels inflated to the dancestors bc of their relationship to damara.

ultimately, its up to individual interpretation due to how little we know about troll society. im inclined to think she has some valid points, and that at the very least, kankris refusal to engage with it is a crock of shit. but it all depends on what theories you as an individual have about beforan and alternian society and how it works. also, its all probably just a big joke to hussie that means nothing, so, theres that.

Latula

latulas entire thing is that shes a game girl, which i think might be a joke about terezis coolkid obsession and how that may have taken off in fandom spaces. she also cant smell, which is frequently joked about as a ridiculous counterpart to terezis blindness, with her and kankri talking about it as though its a real struggle, and other characters (namely karkat and hussies insert) decrying it as not actually disabling and a stupid thing to pat her on the back about. even aranea and meenah kind of joke about it, though the joke kind of seems like its mostly jabbing at the big deal kankri makes of it. i think we know from covid that losing your sense of smell can be a big deal, but the way its handled in homestuck, it clearly doesnt impact her much, so take that (and hussies handling of that) however you want.

in terms of her game girl thing, its twofold. first of all, porrim is right when she says that making this big deal out of being a game girl just kind of... backfires. it winds up being more sexist, instead of really offering any kind of girl power. if you listen to the song game grl, youll get what im talking about instantly. god its awful. the whole thing is like that fucking stupid sonic boom quote, yknow? this one:

the second part is about latulas insecurity. karkat says it best when he points out that latulas entire rad persona is obviously very carefully crafted, and because she spends so much time asserting her radness, it just kind of makes it obvious that its just to hide her insecurity. (this is in keeping with the way all knights hide behind personas- karkat, with his anger, and dave with his coolkid attitude.) this insecurity parallels terezis, with both of them struggling to feel needed, powerful, and worthwhile. latula admits to porrim that keeping it up can feel like a chore sometimes, but she struggles to let go of it (except around porrim, who she states is the only person she feels she can really relax around). aside from her persona, we also see latulas insecurity take form in her relationship with mituna, where she states that part of the reason theyve lasted so long is because mituna makes her feel needed. the implication that she sees herself as some kind of keeper for mituna is a fucking loaded one, but its not unusual in troll society (on alternia, just look at the canon pale and ashen relationships), so ill let it go for now. regardless, it definitely speaks to her insecurity that she feels so comforted by that. honestly, i think most of latulas character is dominated by this trait.

Aranea

aranea is one of the few dancestors who gets a prominent role in hs and gets the chance to evolve past meenahbound. however, bc i havent finished my reread yet, adn this is literally just me recapping as of my reread, im going to stick with her personality and actions as they appear thus far, the same way i do for any recap character entry.

hussie asked the question, "what if mindfang was just some loser teenager who liked to tell stories?" and the answer was aranea. aranea was extremely unpopular during her session, with meenah being her only real friend (and vice versa). aranea is frequently a parallel to kankri, with the way she has a tendency to ramble on and on without end. she likes to tell stories, but shes not very good at it, and has a tendency to go on for too long and tell too many details. shes not very good at being manipulative and not very brave, but she dreams of the kind of adventures mindfang goes on.

as for araneas role in her game, we know that aranea is one of two confirmed godtiers. she saved meenahs life, once, but we dont know how. as a sylph of light, she has healing abilities, but all in all, we basically dont know jack from shit about what she did during the game bc shes too busy telling other peoples stories. at some point during the afterlife she dated porrim, but reflects on it as an embarrassing phase.

in the afterlife, aranea spends a lot of time learning about other sessions and their cultures. shes fascinated by the ancestors, and even took to wearing signless's symbol, which meenah describes as akin to some kind of religious affinity. you can take that however you want, tbh, im not touching it. but its worth noting that she does really love learning about other people and their stories, so that she can turn them into stories of her own.

Horuss

horuss's character is basically all of equius's worst traits exaggerated to the extreme. hes racist, hes a mechanic, he loves horses, and frankly you could just stop there. but i wont.

horuss's character revolves heavily around the fact that hes a void player. he talks at length about having a crisis of identity and building himself from the ground up, slowly (in keeping with his page class). he creates himself out of nothing, in this way, and leans very heavily on his interests as a way to define himself as a person.

horuss is a mechanic. he uses his sweat to create steampowered devices, and as such, he has kind of a steampunk thing going on. aranea once calls him a "renissance man." hes made gloves so that he can handle fragile objects without breaking them, robots, and sweat drains for his goggles. hes talked about making a device to translate damaras speech, but hasnt followed through. at one point, he built rufioh a horse body ( :') ), and is rumored to have sent rufioh a fightbot of himself piece by piece (ala brobot. rufioh and horuss parallel dirk and jake a lot).

horuss also really likes horses. equius likes horses, i guess, but for him its more about appreciation of "fine art," which inexplicably involves musclebeasts on alternia (ripped horsemen). horuss likes horses SO much that he wears his hair in a ponytail and has decided that he in fact horsekin. im uh. gonna wait to get into kin until i get to cronus i think.

most importantly, horuss is FUCKING CASTIST. like, equius is racist, but horuss takes it to all new levels of weird. horuss is not only certain of his own superiority over other classes and weirdly worshipping of high bloods, but also fetishizes the fuck out of his relationships with lower caste members. he refers to anyone lower on the spectrum than him as disgusting, and takes a perverted kind of delight in dating down the spectrum, speaking at length about how gross and taboo it is. he will say this shit to peoples faces. hes obsessed with rufioh adn his weird fetish for rufioh and hes so caught up in it that he either doesnt notice or chooses to ignore rufioh trying to break up with him.

the last thing im going to say about horuss is just an offhand note about his relationship with meulin. its like, not healthy, tbh. he talks about how disgusting and beneath his notice she is, and what an inspiration equius is for being so willing to date nepeta. also, before dating meulin, horuss was constantly grimacing and scowling and making faces that meenah describes as unpleasant. however, meulin has convinced him that the best approach to feeling bad is to pretend very hard that you dont feel bad even and especially if it hurts, so now he grins all the time. that probably says something about meulin, tbh, but yeah.

Kurloz

kurloz is a mime. thats his bit. the backstory aranea gives us is that he was so upset by hurting meulin with his scream that he sewed his mouth shut, but kurloz mentions in internal dialogue that he chewed his tongue off and took a religious vow of silence, so who knows. he was involved somehow in the incident that caused mituna brain damage, but we dont know how. he speaks in "mimes" like meulin, but his gifs tend to be unsettling and uncanny, as opposed to meulins traditional fandom gifs, and sometimes make her uncomfortable. please copypaste my sentiment about meulins mimes and asl representation here.

hes a juggalo like gamzee and worships le and the mithful messiahs and blah blah blah, but isnt as high up as gamzee ig, bc gamzee is pretty disrespectful to him. he serves gamzee, and in turn, he forces meulin (and possibly others) to serve him with the use of chucklevoodoos that allow him to communicate telepathically and control peoples actions. cronus mentions that hes heard mituna is actually coherent when speaking to kurloz, and it could be related to these chucklevoodoos.

he used to date meulin <3ways, but now theyre just friends. hes in a pale relationship with mituna. not much else to say about him.

Cronus

cronus is a spoof of both the nice guy archetype (specifically the niche offshoot archetype, "born in the wrong generation") and fanon interpretations of eridan, who is also canonically a nice guy spoof, so great. were full circle. he plays music thats frankly probably terrible, as even though we dont get to hear it, all of the titles make it obvious theyre songs about how people should fuck him bc hes so nice. he talks extensively about being a sensitive soul who listens to cool music and reads poetry and shit, adn goes on and on about how people only wanna date guys who are broken and tortured or bad. he also makes a big deal about how he toootally doesnt care that hes royalty, and clearly expects other people to give him some kind of trophy for it, because he does actually care and thinks it makes him better than everyone else, but hes being nice to them anyway. obviously, he is super casteist, sexist in the way all perverts in hs are (see: end of mituna section), and super ableist, particularly to mituna.

related to the eridan spoof, weve gotta talk about the wizard thing. cronus used to believe he was harry potter, basically, and le was voldemort. just insert the most generic version of the backstory here. eventually he became disillusioned with magic and gave up (see: bard of hope, destroyer of hope, etc), and its rumored that his destined big battle with le will be passed onto the next hope player down the line (eridan, and then eventually, jake). so hes an ex wizard with some powerful destiny, too.

so, the human kin thing. for anyone who doesnt know, "kinning" was really popular on tumblr for a long time and had a really large, extremely drama inclined, crazy subculture here, which is definitely what hussie is spoofing with both horuss and cronus. kinning can be anything from just relating heavily to a character and seeing yourself in them, to literally believing that you were that character in a past life/alternate reality, and that you have some kind of claim on that character as a person. im saying character here, but some people will also kin real life people, animals, magical creatures, or objects (the last three being commonly known as "otherkin"). while there is a lot of nuance to the community, kinning (like so many other aspects of fandom) could sometimes serve as a way for people to manipulate each other, gain attention, or start drama, and some of the stories youll hear about the kin community back in the day are... pretty fucking crazy.

horuss and cronus are both presented as characters who are doing it for attention, to manipulate others into pitying them, or because theyre straight up delusional. i think you could read horuss as genuinely otherkin on the more extreme side of the spectrum, feeling a strong connection with horses and investing some degree of spiritual belief in that in order to make more sense of himself as a person (a very common thing in the kin community, especially with people who struggle with a sense of self like horuss), but cronus reminds me more of kinnies ive met who deliberately pick certain kins to earn certain reactions from others. he uses his kinning as a way to garner sympathy from others, citing it as a way that hes different and tortured and other. horuss just seems enthusiastic about horses, really. but also the kinning thing is just a big stupid joke hussies making and im just reading into it so yknow!!!!!! take whatever you want from it!!!

Meenah

LAST ONE ON MY LIST. like aranea, meenah develops so fucking much over the course of hs, and i am going to recap her exclusively as she exists in meenahbound.

meenah is a punky, rebellious, teenage hic. she didnt want to rule beforus and ran away to beforus's (single!! beforus doesnt have the green one) moon. in the game, she played a similar role to vriska, trying to push everyone to action by riling them up and pitting them against each other. ultimately, it was ineffective, and they still ended up losing. she learned from the horrorterrors (im pretty sure) what the scratch would actually mean for them, and discovered that if they all died, they could survive into the next session, so she brought the tumor with her to the platform and blew everyone in the session up just before the scratch took effect. shes been hiding in the afterlife ever since, but has only just decided to emerge once le starts fucking shit up.

meenah is unpopular, for obvious reasons. her only friend appears to be aranea, although she is on decent terms with rufioh, and states hes one of the only kind of cool people in her session. she seems to get along fine enough with the kids, and she imprinted on karkat instantly like a fucking baby chick. shes manipulative, and can be really mean, but shes generally willing to make ammends and move on (ie; forgiving damara and mituna), and regularly comes to the defense of others (ie; defending mituna when cronus is being ableist, helping karkat sneak away from kankri). she greatly admires hic and her conquests, but is uncomfortable with the way hic treats her sessionmates in the post-scratch universe, seeming upset at the idea of ever treating mituna the way hic treats psii. shes greedy and loves money, and she loves fishpuns, with these things apparently being the fastest way to win her over in any situation (unless youre cronus, actually).

however, meenah is another fantastic example of hussies racism. :') she uses aave (as does hic, after her introduction) and leans into harmful tropes about black women, which is just kind of made worse when now one of the Big Villains is canonically black coded, but also literally a servant. theres a lot more to say about that, but im not the person to say it, and like with damara, i am 100% positive that if you go looking you can find many, many posts by black and japanese fans about hussies racism, and just other fans who are more articulate about this than i am.

Final Thoughts

meenahbound is so fucking timeconsuming. and i had way omre thoguhts about the dancestors than i thought i did. this took me two days to write. frankly idk why i thought id have less to say but i did, and now were here, and the scroll bar is so, so tiny.

i tried to be objective in my recap of the dancestors and clarify when i was straying into opinion, but i do want to say that regardless of this, interpretation is individual. other people are going to come away with different views than i am, and thats all fine and good. i really dont care that much. (except kankri, in which case you can imagine me always standing at the top of a hill with a flag planted firmly next to me, ready to gun down the next innocent fan who says something stupid to me about celibate kankri learning the ways of hot buttsecks from cronus.) interpret and let interpret, yknow?
