LEO’S LEG

it’s actually a mix of both! leo kept pressuring his knee and over the years it gradually became worse — since he kept pushing his knee beyond it’s limits it keeps getting re-injured. the final straw was him snapping his knee again (completely this time) during a nasty fight and had to chop it off. the phantom pains he gets from his missing limb is… horrible, to say the least.

(BUT THAT FIRST SCENARIO YOU MENTIONED WOULD BE SO FUNNY THOUGH. imagine leo waking up one day and going, “oh wow. this knee injury hurts really bad, maybe i should chop it off. lol im actually gonna do it.” cue him barging into donnies lab like “DONNIE. AGES

they should be around their late 20s in this au, i hc that for every season of the show they age one year. so at the start they were like 15, and the show had 5 seasons (granted s5 was a bit messy and was full of aus and past flashbacks, but there was that demodragon arc and stuff) so they would be 20 at the end of the show. specifically they’re like 28 :) they are kinda old but hey at least they don’t have to pay taxes in the sewers…

HEIGHT PROBLEMS

oh god, when raph suddenly had a growth spurt it was horrible for leo. he was relentlessly being teased every single day and raph would NOT let off. and then when MIKEY hit being 1cm taller than leo, the teasing fucking doubled and he was downright miserable. they kept growing while leo was barely getting any height. he’s still their sensei though — and he makes them do extra training as punishment for the relentless teasing :) donnie doesn’t join in on the teasing (sometimes he does) but he does snicker when raph and mikey make jokes about leo’s height. it’s funnier for him because he’s been the tallest out of all of them since day one.

MORE ABOUT DONNIE

and yessss i loved designing donnie! since he was tall everything about his design had to compensate for his height so i figured long mask tails and a long lab coat would do the trick. his brothers were concerned over him tripping on his mask tails but he hasn’t, not even ONCE. he is one graceful, careful boy. he braids it or ties it into a bow whenever he does lab work so it doesn’t accidentally slip into one of his chemicals somehow. sometimes he lets mikey do it for him :)

i'm still not all that far in, but compared to both tristamp and '98, he's so expressive and goofy. sociable as hell, too. he's so upfront kind with everyone, so long as they're not hostile.

ok before i talk about this i just wanna say, this kind of discussion can lead into speculation territory, particularly a type of speculation i have no interest in discussing publicly. so i just wanna jump ahead of that before saying anything further.

a lot of ppl joke about "codependency" and i just wanna clarify that even if i might have used that term before to describe them, that's not what codependency means. also mutually dependent isn't necessarily a bad thing, i mean it's mostly a good thing! it's good to have people you can depend on and be depended on by others, and with dnp... i mean the Meme is like they never go outside, they're each others only friends, they don't speak to or hang out with other people unless required to even in convention settings. and part of that can be attributed to introversion, but like its also a bit social anxiety and like, isolation almost? so while its GOOD that they have each other to rely on, it's also important that they have some outside supports that arent just each other. and they do, they have family and friends and all that but then i think about like. phil on his own while dan was on tour and immediately his two closest friends that arent dan were like dude. do you need someone to rescue you. AND ITS HILARIOUS BUT ITS ALSO LIKE hfhdgd idk! i think it's something they HAVE been working on, it's why dan still wants to branch out with solo projects. ok thats as much as im willing to talk abt this tbh lol

Every December, we go to the cabin to get away from the fame and prying eyes of the paparazzi and crazed fans, spend time with one another, and have a sense of peace.

As much as I love our fans, it gets overwhelming, and our trips each year give us some solace among one another.

This year was supposed to be like every year. But it wasn’t. Something was threatening to tear us apart, and I couldn’t help but feel it would be my fault. 

As we drive farther and farther away from the city, I can feel my heart pounding. Why do I feel so nervous? 

I turn my music up in my ears to drown out the worry I feel. I glance over at Aaron T, who is  already staring at me. Staring at me with a loving look, he places his hand on mine and pecks me on my cheek. 

He starts to tell me a joke, and I can’t help but to laugh. He was always so funny and kind. He still is, I’ll never not think that. As he nods off to sleep, I look at him, his freckles more apparent and his cute curly hair that is slightly messy. 

But I still couldn’t shake the feeling that something was wrong. Something is wrong with me? But what? I.. I don’t know. Maybe it’s this bus, with all six of us in here, it’s a little cramped, maybe that’s it. 

I feel my stomach growl. Maybe I’m just hungry. Or tired. “Everything’s fine.” I tell myself as I admire my boyfriend as he snoozes away, snoring softly. My eyes wander around the bus. 

There’s Tae Young, making his little stuffed bunny dance to the music on the radio. He always takes Byeol on our trips, she’s like a comfort to him, I guess. Nothing wrong with that. 

Tae loves these trips, mainly because he can get away from his father. His father doesn’t deserve Tae Young as a son, he’s so sweet and kind, but all his father sees is the nail polish and the singing.

I don’t like his father, his mother either. They don’t like the idea of their son being a singer, but I’m so proud of him for continuing to pursue his dreams and follow his heart.

I glance at Jesse, his hair slightly blowing in the wind since he has his window down, before Robaire tells him to roll it up. I don’t know why Jesse likes the cold, it’s like he’s Elsa in disguise. 

Jesse is like the father of the group, mainly to Tae, but also me. Me and Robaire never had a father in our life, having walked out, not wanting his kids to be singers.

So, our mother tried to make us be anything but singers, neglecting the love and attention you need from your mother. 

Then the money came in once we got signed as 4*TOWN, then she was all with it. But she’s always treated me different then Robaire.

I zone out for a little bit, thinking about my childhood, when I feel someone tapping my knee, I look up and it’s Aaron Z, nodding his head toward Robaire, who is turned toward me. Wait, so is Jesse and Tae, why are they staring? 

I take off my headphones and put them down beside me. “What’s wrong?” I question, confused as to why everyone, except Aaron T of course since he’s such a heavy sleeper, is looking at me.

“I called you like four times!” Robaire says with a hint of annoyance to his voice. “What? You know I had my headphones on.” I say, I always tell people I can’t hear them with my headphones on, and they don’t seem to get it.

“Someones gotta go into grab snacks? You’re the designated one, you hit your head or something?” Robaire says as if it was obvious, gesturing to the gas station we stopped at. 

“I didn’t hit my head.’’ I say, I don’t know why he thinks I hit my head, if I did, I wouldn’t be talking. Would I? I didn’t even realize we stopped anyways. “What do you guys want?” I ask, hesitantly ripping out a sheet from my sketchbook.

I look out to get a closer look at the gas station, this is a different one than what we usually stop at. Why do we have to go to a new place? I don’t even know what they have here!

But I know they won’t just leave because I don't like it, so I get everyones requests down with a small frown, my day feeling a little worse than before. I pull on my disguise, just a hoodie, a toque, and sunglasses, and climb over Aaron Z to get out, he leans back a little so it’s easier.

I look down at my list as I walk into the gas station, the door automatically opening with a welcoming ding. I go down one by one, first is Aaron T, I already know what he wants so I didn’t have to wake him up, it’s a hassle to. 

I walk down the aisles, he usually gets the big bag of nacho Doritos, a Mountain Dew, and a bag of… I reach up to a shelf, got them, Dubble Bubble bubblegum, I always steal some of his, so I grab the biggest bag I can. I drop them in the basket. 

Next is Z. He’s a simple guy, salted plantains and a Coke. Hard to find plaintains, especially in a gas station, but I surprisingly find them. I drop them in my basket and think about what I want. Wait, gotta go through the list.

Next up is… I glance back down at my list. Tae. Haribo Berries, Hi-Chews, and a Minute Maid, pink lemonade flavor. He really likes fruit flavored things, I can’t judge, but I'm more of a chocolate girl. I place them in my basket and look down at my list, when I notice two women about my age, oddly close to me beginning to whisper. 

Great.

I walk out of that aisle as quick as I can, looking back down at my list. Next up is Jesse. He’s like an old man sometimes, all he wants is beef jerky, and a diet Pepsi. Not my taste, but again, I cant judge. I know Robaire is next, all he wants is a big bag of Cheddar and Sour Cream Ruffles, and a Coke.

Yay, my turn! I always get the same thing at gas stations, a Pepsi, a bag of chips I’m feeling in that moment, tonight will be… I scan the rows and rows of chips, before landing on a bag of Takis. Spice is nice. I grab them, before going back to the candy aisle to grab me a Hershey's chocolate bar. 

As I grab the chocolate bar and set my basket on the counter, I feel a finger tap me on my shoulder. I turn to see those two girls from earlier, but as I turn, their faces distort from excitement to disappointment.

“Can I help you?” I say, waiting for the seemingly dumbfounded girls to say something so I can leave and I can get away. 

One of the girls look at me with a weird expression, seemingly disgusted. The other girl speaks up. “Sorry, we thought you were Robaire.” She says, her voice seeming disappointed with a hint of frustration. 

I don’t see it when people say me and Robaire look alike, we only have similar eye color, but thats about it. I have two beauty marks, he has one, I have thinner eyebrows, and he has thicker.

“Where is he, anyways? He's here somewhere, don’t lie. We want to see Robaire, not you.” The other girl says, her voice coming off as stuck up and rude. The other girl jabs her arm into the mean girls shoulder, causing her to wince.

“Sasha, don't be rude!” She says as her face contorts into an angry one. “Oh, hush, Rebecca. You know we only like 4*TOWN for the guys, not her! Theyre called boy bands for a reason!” Sasha says, as if I'm not even here.

Just when I thought my night couldnt get any worse. I don't understand why they don’t like me, I didn’t even do anything to them…

I begin to zone out as the two argue. But then something snaps me out of my thoughts, just to put me down in another set of thoights.

“Aaron T should've broken up with you on your birthday!” Sasha yells out as the store owner shoos them out, quickly coming up to me to apologize, telling me that everything is on the house as he scans my items and bags them.

I start thinking about that day, how my anxiety got worse by just a little bit. Everything between me and Aaron started this year, August 4th, my 22nd birthday. It was a surprise party at our clubhouse, I got sent to pick up pizza, I though they had forgotten my birthday.

When I came back, I saw the Happy Birthday banner that made me momentarily happy, before I saw Aaron and our now former manager, Hailey, kissing.

Though now I should've known it wasn't consensual, seeing that Aaron had his eyes wide open in shock before gently but forcefully pushing her away, but in the moment, I couldn't tell if it was real or a nightmare.

I quickly dropped the pizza box on the coffee table before storming out, my shoes clacking, which alerted the guys, and also Aaron, who ran after me before being stopped by Robaire, asking what happened.

I felt a hand grabbing mine, it was Z. At ifrst, I couldn't talk at all, feeling too overwhelmed to do so, but as he engulfed me in his warm embrace, I began to calm down and explain what I saw. As I talked, he looked at me with an expression that made me feel something weird inside.

He was shocked and a little hurt to say the least, and was about to go get Aaron so he could get his side of the story, when i caught a glimpse of Aaron, watching me and Z hug with an unreadable expression. 

Aaron ran over and began to explain himself, although I can usually keep up with his sometimes fast talking, I couldnt this time and Z had to tell him to breath and slow down. They locked eyes for a second, and that weird feeling came back, though it felt a little different. I don't know why.

Why did I feel like that?

As Aaron explained and Hailey rudely told the truth, that she came on to him and not vice versa as he would never do such a thing in the first place, I still felt a pang in my chest. I felt hurt, even though Aaron would never hurt me, and it was just a misunderstanding.

Now it's December 1st, and me and Aaron are going great again, we got a new manager named Paul, he's radical. Although we should have fired Hailey right after that concert in Toronto with the crazy giant talking red panda women and the other talking red panda ladies, plus the smaller yet taller than me talking one, Meilin Lee was her name.

I'm snapped out of my thoughts by the cashier, and I feel embarrassed. I pay and quickly walk out. Why did she have to bring that up, why would she say that? My day is terrible and I just want to get to the cabin so I can cry in peace.

I go back to the van and hop in the backseat, before being instantly bombarded with questions like “What took you so long?’’ and “What's wrong?”

I quietly hand everyone their correct snacks, giving out a weak “I’m fine, I'm just tired.” and hoping they will get that I don't want to talk right now. I then notice that Aaron is awake, looking at me with a slightly concerned expression, and he holds my face and wipes away my tears.

Tears?

I didn't realize that I was crying.

“What happened?” he asks me, his voice soft as he looks at me with wide eyes and furrowed brows. I just lean into him, handing him the bag with his snacks. “I dont want to talk about it right now.’’ i say, hoping I'm not coming off as rude.

I seemingly don't, as he pecks my forehead and holds me close. I decide to spend the rest of this drive sleeping, not feeling hungry for my snacks now after everything that has happened.

I can hear the faint Michael Buble playing on the radio as I rest my head on Aaron’s chest and drift away to the world of wondrous sleep.

I have brain damage too. (Stroke in 2018, that counts right? Also im not old, just unlucky ig) and I've been dealing with dystonia and spasticity in my right side, do you have any way of coping with movement disorders when you've tried literally everything and nothings helped?

omg hiii yes that absolutely counts!! we are pretty sure my issue is vascular as well although not as severe as a stroke, it’s basically a series of mini or partial strokes (“incomplete infarctions”). so major solidarity!!

could you clarify what you mean by coping – like physically adapting to symptoms, or emotionally dealing with the fact that nothing has worked? honestly i wish i had more advice for you but i am not doing super well at either so far 😅

as far as physically, my pcp gave me a muscle relaxer (tizanidine) that like, doesn’t stop my dystonia & involuntary movements but does make it less painful / less likely to get muscle cramps, and honestly it’s a plus that it makes me so sleepy because often my movement stuff makes it really difficult to sleep, so it can knock me out when i get desperate. that might already be on the list of stuff you’ve tried though so i’m sorry if that’s unhelpful!

emotionally like, i am super lucky because my gf & roommate are really anti-ableist & supportive so they help me with a lot, but it’s still just. really overwhelming especially when there isn’t much representation in disability spaces especially among young people.

while in practice i’ve found it more beneficial to refrain from separating my body from my “self”, i’ve kinda been shoehorning my experiences into media narratives of loss of bodily control in other ways, especially demonic possession because the stereotypical representation of that really resembles the types of involuntary movements i have. it’s a mixed bag & i definitely have complicated feelings about it lol.

i’m also really fortunate to have a couple friends with cerebral palsy & we’ve related a lot to each other’s experiences – there’s probably even more of an overlap with yours because my dystonia is usually, like, “between” more flailing-type involuntary movements rather than consistent on its own & i don’t experience much if any spasticity. but being able to joke about being afraid of breaking plates or spasming when you’re trying to have sex has been a huge source of comfort for me.

I’m not sure if you’ve seen anyone comment about how “similar” tdp is to ATLA or even people going far as to claim that tdp is a “ripoff” esp with the Soren, Claudia, Viren arcs in comparison to Zuko, Azula, Ozai. I personally find Soren more similar in characterization (though not entirely the same) to Steve Palchuck from the Trollhunters/Tales of Arcadia series (not sure if you watched or not) and if any character comes to mind about being similar to Zuko, it’s definitely Hunter from the Owl House in terms of characterization and arcs. Idk if you’ve done a meta about this before but I love reading your thoughts (if you’re interested ofc).

So I have done a couple of metas on ATLA x TDP, mostly noting the thematic similarities between them (bloodbending and dark magic, pre-S4's puppeteering too lol!) and between Rayllum and Kataang as developing relationships. Meta comparing "Thunderfall" and "The Southern Raiders" here, meta talking about Kataang and Rayllum (s1-s2 as it was written pre-s3) here.

Also a more opinion based piece on why I could get behind Rayllum but have never really been a romantic Zutara fan (I see them far more as narrative siblings, which is still one of my favourite metas I have ever done)

I am a big Trollhunters fan (reblog more about it on main @thethiefandtheairbender and various other cartoons like SU, HTTYD, OTGW, Infinity Train, etc) and I adore Steve, but I don't think I'd really compare Soren to him, simply because while I love Steve and his development, Soren's development is undeniably deeper and more pyschological, I think.

That said the ATLA character that reminds me the most of Soren is Sokka. Goofy, prone to joking regardless of if the situation calls for it ( "Mind if I watch you two jerks do your jerk bending?") just to get a rise out of people, lmao, sometimes overly confident or reliant on their battle prowess, and desperate to prove themselves to their fathers. Sokka's attitude particularly in early book 1 reminds me of Soren's in s1, as well as their more skeptic attitude and relationships with their more magically inclined younger sisters

For Callum, he reminds me the most of Katara and Mai (again, true before S4, but interesting to see how much he shut down the way Mai largely did due to her family relationship, so again, kinda fun that worked out). Caring sibling, fast and harsh temper, strong in magic but untrained, artistic and precise (hi Mai), ride or die for their loved ones above all else, even above morals. For Rayla, she's basically running parallel arcs to Zuko and Aang in a lot of ways: grumpy, banished, immediately protects the sibling duo she encounters, facial markings, guilt complex galore (hi Aang). Rayllum is a good blend of all their personalities tbh

For Claudia, she reminds the most of Azula, and Katara, and Zuko, due to her loyalty to her father, willingness to do anything for her family, and being marked by the same sort of dual visual storytelling that Zuko's scar had.

And Hunter from the Owl House was definitely one of my faves! I think he falls into a category a lot of more modern day redemptions do, though, in terms of not letting their character actually be messy enough for long enough that it feels like maybe redemption isn't in the cards (hi Claudia my beloved, you excellent subversion sweetie). Or they go too far and don't give enough reason for a character to effectively redeem themselves (eyes SPOP with a long sigh). And just to clarify, I do think Claudia will have a redemption arc, but I appreciate how we're going about it thus far.

It's funny bc in some ways while Zuko has never been my favourite archetype (particularly for male characters), my protagonist in my og work is a bit like him: lost, angry, easily resentful, and she's my baby.

I think I'm just kinda over arcs of "Oh my father figure is Bad / imperialism is bad"? Because 1) Zuko did it so well and 2) I wanna see stories that go beyond those things or do new things with those concepts (please no more "rich white lesbian girl with a mean family" arcs I am. so tired). I think that's why I like TDP so much, because dark magic thematically and its explorations of self destructive behaviour add a lot of layers and interesting aspects to all the dynamics that I don't see most other media for this age demographic kinda taking advantage of, tbh

But okay, for context, this is about Minecraft Content Creators:: Dream and Tommyinnit mostly, but it's also about another Mexican YouTuber called Quackity

Basically, a super long time ago already actually, Dream announced he was making a new Minecraft server, after the DSMP tragically passed away o7 that was gonna be called the USMP (I'm pretty sure it standed for United SMP but no clue honestly.)

And the exciting new feature about this USMP was going to be this real time translator, so content creators from all over the world could play together (Side thought: I don't think the translations were actually that good either way lol they were machine translated lol)

But literally like that Same night, Quackity announced that actually he was making his own server, the QSMP that had that exact same feature

So they basically kinda fought back and forth over who actually had ownership over the idea or who ripped off who, and while the YouTubers themselves didn't really do much, beyond being way too public about it, but like honestly, what's the Minecraft sphere without incredibly levels of parasociality involved.)

The fanbase was completely deranged over it tho, because you know, Stans gotta be Stans.

A lot of people got doxed, and stalked, literally putting trackers on people's cars, a lot of racism (Hi, hello, that happened to me) just a shitshow overall.

I wanna say that even though I stopped liking Dream ages ago Dream Stans get the worst possible treatment from everybody, just idk, people feel very entitled to mistreating anybody with a ":)" on their bio.

At the end, it finally died down, and then, Tommyinnit, most annoying man on Earth.

Made an ohhh politically incorrect video that was just fake edgy and kinda boring, where at the end he called Dream, basically a crybaby manchild who was gonna get killed by Tommy's LARP Dad Philza Minecraft.

Dream found out, got passive aggressive on Twitter, Tommy doubled down, and then like a stream later, he was being whiny and sighing ,and apparently watching DNF edits of Dream's, new at the time, LP.

Which kinda gave off the message that he really sacrificed a years long friendship to try to get into an SMP that his bestie Tubbo made it into before him

And which he never will, because the QSMP is a very deeply controlled space, with almost no super young content creators, and Tommy's first DSMP video was him literally breaking the only rules of that the server had, so yeah, that's never happening.

(And then, his mom went online to defend him, like boy the way I'm immediately killing myself if that ever happens to me, plus the dream stans discussing with this woman over her son, literally most annoying people in the world.)

And today, Dream made a (In my opinion, super boring) stream just showing the USMP, and talking a bit about Tommy and Quackity.

He kinda implies that the reason the USMP will never see the light of day is because of that drama, but like, that man has never once pushed through on any of his proyects, that SMP was doomed to fail from the very beginning.

I must clarify tho, that my annoyance with Tommy isn't the fact that he dissed Dream. I just freaking don't like the guy, he literally built his entire career on being a mysoginistic lowkey lesbophobic annoying brat.

Kinda sucks that Tommy is the one making the biggest mcyt related videos at the current time, solely because he's got the resources and the connections for it, literally the best part of his channel is being a host for other content creators to be funny and shine.

I still love Quackity tho, he can hit it for free any day of the week, and that's on God

They were following cryptids around from 16 to 19, up until they found out about Fazbear Containment. They didn't really have anything better to do, and even if it was only 3 years they learnt a lot!

I posted this on twitter and I wanted to post it here too cuz I'm a menace idk LMAO heres my (bad) opinions about most Redacted characters. Feel free to talk / disagree with me in fact its encouraged if you wanna!!

Vincent: I like him as a character much more than his plot. "Lovely gets hurt. He has to save them." Repeat til death... actually, continue to repeat post death. While at the same time being similar enough to the freelancer storyline for me to notice (flirtatious immortal magic user who doesnt understand boundaries helps humanborn magic user navigate the magical world, ft being taken advantage of by someone else because of their lack of knowledge, going to damn, etc etc). I really do love him as a character, though, he is so dang sweet, his nightmare comfort is one of my favorites and his character development was great I luv him

Sam: My comfort character, my favorite! I struggle with this because since I joined the fandom, and since the honor of comfort character was bestowed upon him, he has changed a lot, and his original plotline has been neglected imo. Also the jokes about him being old (he is a singular year older than vincent) and a cowboy (he has a southern accent) were never a thing earlier on and honestly they kind of bother me, just cuz they dont make sense to me. If it was occasional that would be fine, but it's become the punchline of every joke? Truly I think my issues started when they became mates, simply because that was a Bonus Audio. Sam set a boundary and then went to bone town in his very next standalone vid. It felt really rushed and unneeded. Maybe I just found comfort in the fact that neither him nor the listener were being sexualized. The one after it was spice too. The fact that imp!Sam exists, that it is a possibility for him to be the way he is there if circumstances were different, alone confuses me and makes me think I've misinterpreted his character. Despite all of that, I love him very very much. The first half of his storyline is amazing and I really hope they bring it back full throttle. The struggle for trust between him and darlin and them becoming partners despite their circumstances is really cool. Both of them being rough and tough and unfeeling on the outside but truly soft and gentle and touch starved 😭😭❤... I love them dearly, especially as a concept and their potential and I cant wait to see more of them and I want them to have a good ending even if I literally cant conceptualize a happy ending for them LMAO

Adam: ... my skrunkly.. I absolutely adore the idea that went into him, and like... his character idk hes just so cool. One of my favorites even if short lived

David: hmmm hmmm... I like him a lot. The beginning of his playlist bothers me, and his talk with Darlin was iffy, but if you get past that stuff, I do really appreciate him. Hes very good. I want to see him sad more I love his angsty stuff and his voice is nice to listen to

Asher: his voice is a cheese grater to my brain. He is my favorite wolf despite this. Before the inversion, I wasn't 100% sold on him, but during and after it? Hes just so good and genuine and soft and I am so down, even if his voice took a second to adjust to. I don't have much to say here simply because hes just very good

Milo: hes good! I didnt pay a ton of attention to him, admittedly. I wish sweetheart got some more focus, theres such a great opportunity there to clarify some stuff about the department

Caelum: please I have a 6 year old brother I dont need another one

Lasko: cute! I like him, not much to say, I ship him with Gavin and FL lol

Damien: also cute! I like him very very much, grumpy lil guy

Kody: ... I really love kody a lot. Not as a person, but his voice, his mannerisms, the rain noises during his videos. I love a guy that will manipulate me (we will address this later)

Huxley: I am so sorry I hate him I'm sorry I cant listen to him I like him and Damien together I like his personality but idk what it is about him I just ,, I can not take him seriously

Gavin: I struggle with Gavin a LITTLE bit, especially earlier Gavin, but more recently I really love him. Especially during and after the inversion. Hes so soft and he cares so dang much

Marcus: as a character and concept I really really like him, as a person I dont

Avior: My second favorite character! Hes SO good I think the story has slowed down recently and I just want to KNOW but also, I dont mind too too much. Hes the character who holds the most of my favorite videos. I just want them to be happy so bad. I relate to him the very most. Hes never done anything wrong in his life. Actually he has but I understand why he did it too much to possibly judge him for it. 10/10 I adore his storyline and his listener and their relationship and I just want everything to be okay for them and I want to see more fluff from him so bad 😭😭 I think he is easily one of the most well written characters and best plot lines, but the stuff after his confession so far couldve been consolidated / shortened and been just as effective

Regulus: Empathy daemons in general being compared to children worries me too much to watch his videos. I have lots of thoughts about (empathy) daemon ages and how they work but I have no idea what's canon and that in and of itself is the problem

Vega: My third favorite! Absolute love of my life I loved him before anyone else fuk u guys prime Vega is perfect (/j) and I am SO excited to see where his story goes I love being manipulated I love how hes a total monster but hes so chill about it he has gaslit me into thinking hes a good person and I'm cool with it I love him so much hes probably my favorite to listen to he is very well written and his voice is so soothing 10/10

Alexis: Unpopular opinion time: She did nothing wrong. Sam is absolutely allowed to be upset, hes allowed to be pissed, hes allowed to never forgive her. He can feel whatever he needs to to get through what happened to him. She did nothing wrong and I will die on this hill. Maybe she should've given him longer to try to save himself. Maybe she could've been more gentle. They were BOTH panicking. They were both in shock. Vincent was turned against his will under very similar circumstances. He hated william for it. But we dont villainize William, in fact we praise him for saving Vincent. For all we know, Alexis has a very positive relationship with being a vampire and her own turning, and didnt really understand the gravity of the change she was about to put him through. I'm not saying shes a perfect character with no flaws, or that we should praise her, but she did a perfectly human thing. I dont see how saving someone you love and then never ever pushing when they dont want to see you again could possibly mean she had bad intentions or is a bad person

girl why is bullying john so funny it drives me insane. used to think he was my hero in rdr1, but rdr2 made him into a little joke to me alsdkjsa what have you done

well i just find goth emo ppl funny to bully especially when the story treats them as still a 'fledgling' and trying to navigate their lives? kinda like battinson, who is also a goth emo and (i think?) still a relatively inexperienced batman; very bulliable.

also i wanna clarify that bullying is my love language 🙈 i like to bully john bc i love him; i mean no hate towards him. it's just his immaturity, especially regarding how he treats abigail and jack early on, makes him prone to being bullied. even more so given how much arthur (lovingly) makes fun of him. it feels to me that the game kinda actively encourages you to do so lol, or at least normalize it.

i wouldn't hesitate to do the same to arthur either but the problem is there's not many opportunities to do that considering he's kinda too mature/competent and too much of a smartass for that to be funny lmao (compared to john whose response is always a different shade of 's-s-shut up baka!!!!' every time arthur sasses him). maybe if we get rdr3 with a younger and dumber arthur (who dutch said was very much like sean) that'd come to me more easily

but in short, i bully john bc i find him cute lol

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH THANK YOU SO MUCH It genuinely means a lot. Where do i even begin

american animation had been in like a complete dark age (save for a few bright moments) from like the late 60s through most of da 80s. at least in television: i don’t think there’s a lot of ways to create a great animated tv show bc the production process is so rigid and asks for boatloads of content to be released one after the other after the other. artists had to take a lot of shortcuts to keep up with the strict deadlines that were inherent to the very medium they were working in, and i think it rlly did a number on the quality of american animation. combine this w the fact that by the 80s Every tv cartoon was just an advertisement for a toy + animation had garnered a reputation of being for kids, and it rlly did look like the future of television animation was just dead

But then…… mighty mouse the new adventures 😼 created by THE ralph bakshi who made the first adult american animated film (fritz the cat is like a #1 favorite film of mine I love it to bits 😁), and was supported by a shitload of younger animators who had enough of working in what they saw as a hopeless medium. they let a lot of their anger and frustration out through the show, and they all kinda bonded through their shared cynicism and boredom lol. 3 of them, including the senior director of the show Who was also like. kinda bakshi’s protege (john k), decided to form their own studio, and the studio hereby declared as spümcø formed a couple years later through the addition of a final 4th co-founder

so like a little while after spümcø was created, a small company known as nickelodeon was looking for animators to create their own original cartoons. Some of the higher-ups at nick wanted to reach out to a large younger audience, and they noticed the manufactured state of television animation and thought that it was terrible entertainment for these potential viewers. nick held meetings with a lot of aspiring creators, and spümcø was one of the last of them: they got lucky as all hell, and before they knew they had one of the 1st nicktoons on their hands

Why did i tell you all this lol???? bc ren and stimpy was very much a product of its time And i think that made it so timeless: the anger and cynicism that essentially created the studio absolutely bled over to r+s and it absolutely shows. the creators have gone out of their way to clarify that its a show for kids bc of how controversial its content was, but i really dont think that was the case And i mean that in the best way possible. it was more a show for them: they got a chance to make the cartoons they had been waiting their whole careers to make, and they took it. the look of the show wears its inspirations on its sleeve, harkening back to early hanna-barbera tv shows and bob clampett’s warner brothers cartoons that the animators had grown up on (which is actually another reason why i think the show is cool… They purposefully avoided the artistic shortcuts i mentioned earlier!! This method definitely had its faults but it created a really beautiful looking show that appreciated that it was animated ya know); there were jokes and pop culture references, but they were in the form of non-sequiturs to old kirk douglas movies and burl ives songs that no 10 year-old was ever gonna understand; there were real emotions on display, but they werent overly syrupy happiness and the like, there was like genuine discomfort and horror at times. Im not fucking joking Heres a quote i found that sums up what i wanna say here its from an eric andre interview of all places

this weird ass show came from a place of pure anarchy. It was very much a reaction to all the ways television animation had been wronged in the past, but it created this edgy and counterculturist show that helped bring life back to a medium previously considered dead, and it opened the gateway to countless other shows like it. for example, ren and stimpy also aired on mtv (which is so weird to think about. A nicktoon was on mtv) and the shows success was a reason why the channel agreed to produce mike judge’s short “frog baseball” into a full series, which obviously became beavis and butt-head. And without beavis and butt-head we wouldnt have like the past 30 years of adult animated television so there ya go

but also like! going back to that eric andre quote, that style of uncomfortable comedy mustve influenced a lot of modern comedies, at the very least because r+s helped make that style more mainstream. not to mention the shows gross-out humor, which was seen as sooooo controversial back in the day

I think im gonna stop here bc this is already long as is But this is only scraping the top of the barrel imo this show is so so crazy. its literally shaped the past 30 years of american pop culture imo but i feel like bc its a nicktoon nobody ever really acknowledges it, hopefully this like changes your mind idk I hope my ramblings make a semblance of sense
