Fig is so so careful with her words when she first asks Ayda to come to one of her concerts. Like, consults Jawbone to make sure she’s explaining enough but not overexplaining anything. Ayda has a great time, especially since Zelda is there, but only attends the occasional concert. And Fig is absolutely content with her doing this.

Fig has a tendency to “sneak” off to Compass Points, on Leviathan, some weekends when she has nothing else going on. The reason “sneak” is in quotes, is that she always shoots Gilear a text before she does it. However, she tends to do it on weekends when she already knows he left his phone and keys at school, or gets incredibly lucky and he just doesn’t check it because it’s under a floorboard somehow and Cathilda hasn’t found it yet. Sandra Lynn is getting fed up with this habit. Gorthalax honestly thinks it’s funny.

Ayda is always excited to find out what Fig is learning in her classes. She is fascinated by how things are taught to young adventurers, especially since she is entirely self-taught. This actually causes Fig to go to one bard class a week, just so she can answer the questions that Ayda asks, because she adores the look Ayda gets when she’s asking these questions. She also adds a wizard class, in addition to the barbarian classes, just so she can see if Ayda is missing anything by not going to school (she isn’t, but Ayda is touched that Fig thought to check it out). Often, their dates will entail sitting quietly in Mordred, or at Compass Points, while Fig writes music and Ayda does research. okay, so 😭😭😭 basically it started as a "he uses a 13-in-1 shampoo/shower gel lol" because funny + hunter likes his efficiency after all and it's practical, and so we also had an "lmao do you think hunter's one of those ppl who don't wash their legs in the shower" discussion with some friends, but then it just kinda... evolved into more??? cuz like, the thing is that YEAH, he probably IS. because he's never been taught.

i've just been rly thinking abt how hunter most likely had to just… learn how to take care of himself all on his own. belos didn't care enough to teach him abt the basics of self-care and hygiene; he most likely taught him only abt things that'd affect his performance or how hunter's "perceived" plus he added some things that'd make him look like a Good Caring Uncle in hunter's eyes, the bare minimum; eat, train, shower, stand straight, etc.. but when it comes to things that were "not visible" to other coven members or even belos himself, he probably couldn't care less.

like, hunter likely had to figure out HOW to actually take care of himself all on his own. he had to teach HIMSELF how to clean himself, without any clear instructions, navigating solely by what seemed logical or right to him; couldn't even ask or base it off other coven scouts, since his interactions with them were limited. he was in charge of when he'd sleep, and that defo didn't do him any good. he had to learn how to treat wounds and patch himself up, because he most likely wasn't even rly allowed to use a healer's services; but at least he had books with... that information instead, i suppose. that's something. uh- he had to do all these things, all while overworking himself and doing everything in his power to make his "uncle" proud.

just……… post-coven hunter slowly realizing that the little things and habits he does and always thought were right and how things are "supposed" to be done… AREN'T actually right…… seeing how differently yet naturally others do their daily self-maintenance routines and realizing just how deeply belos' neglect and lack of care for his well-being really went, how much it affected everything in his life. h

I love the Fyuuture kid au. Could I ask for Ace!yutu, the idea of Yutu getting second hand embarrassment at Ace's flirting attempts makes me laugh so much, just yutu standing there watching ace self sabotage himself when it comes to Yuu wondering how Yuu and Ace managed to get together in the future. (Yutu has definitely judged his father a few times in silence)

Another thing that lives rent free in my head when thinking of Ace and Yutu is when Ace finds out that Yuu is basically dead in the future. That has to be a crushing discovering for him considering that he's (and Deuce) very protective of Yuu

Slight bit of clarification, the Magical Marshall's appear to be a government organization, or perhaps a type of law enforcement that each government has?  The way Deuce spoke about it made me think they sound similar to a counter terrorism unit, but either way your point still stands.  While Deuce never gets the complete picture of what happened to Yuu, he still knows in his heart it was his office that hurt them, and it's extremely difficult for him to live with.  The office stands by it's decision to the bitter end, no matter what he says or how many monster attacks are reported.  And if he gets too annoying, well they already made you disappear.

And with that lovely thought let's talk about Ace!

Ace! Yutu is a fairly normal kid.  He doesn't really have friends, maybe a discord buddy or two who he plays games with, but no one he really trusts to talk with about his family situation.  And he does see it as a situation, Yuu might be doing their best to make things normal for the two of them but the entire situation just stinks.  Yutu knows there's something wrong with it but he can't put his finger on what…

Very smart.  He taught himself how to count cards and got in trouble at school more than once for running blackjack games where he took a bunch of money from his classmates.  Not his fault they suck at cards!  And sure he could just cheat like normal (he's just as good at cutting the deck as dear old dad) but it's much more fun to do something technically legal.  It makes people that much more mad, which he finds really funny.

He tries to not talk about his dad that much, though he might make a joke or two about fatherless behavior. Much like Cater! Yutu, he assumes that his dad is probably dead and while he's very curious, he's reluctant to poke at Yuu's memories for fear of causing them more pain.  When he does think about his dad he tends to romanticize things, Yuu's description of him makes their relationship sound really sweet.  Marrying his best friend sounds great to Yutu, his dad must have felt really lucky to have managed to obtain that.

Getting isekaid doesn't phase this Yutu at all.  He was already so convinced something was off back in your world, learning he was a mage and all about Yuu's adventures just confirms all of his assumptions. Getting placed into Heartslabyul and being told that was Ace's dorm thrills him, doubly so when he gives Crewel his first migraine and gets told he's just like him. That's not to say Yutu is completely happy about his situation; his father is dead (Yutu refuses to acknowledge the monster wearing his face as a person) and Yuu effectively died ages ago, the curse placed on them just drew it out for a cruel amount of time. Yutu's angry, and what's worse is that he doesn't really have one person he can fix the blame on. He wishes Yuu or Ace were alive so he could ask who they blame, who he needs to seek out to get them justice. When the others propose traveling back in time he leaps at it without a second thought.

Crewel does try to tell Yutu about his dad, but his descriptions sort of go over Yutu's head until he actually meets him. To be fair to Yutu, he's not completely off in his assumptions about how Ace felt about Yuu, it's obvious that Ace was smitten with his parent from the start but he doesn't fully understand the denial Crewel is talking about. The blot monster Ace became is very cocky, and excels at misdirection so why would he be shy about flirting with Yuu?

Well maybe shy isn't the right word for whatever he's looking at now. Ace is reluctant to leave Yuu's side, but he has so many excuses as to why that it hurts his soul, wouldn't it just be easier to say "because I'm worried about you?" Instead of insulting Yuu's ability to take care of themselves and joking about you needing him but only joking! It's not like he really wants you to! And don't get him STARTED on all the little excuses Ace finds to touch you. It makes him seriously reconsider his whole opinion on wanting to marry his best friend thing because god if this is level of pathetic what it takes he doesn't think he could cope.

He assumes (maybe correctly) that Yuu is the one who made a move on Ace and that's how they got together in his timeline, something that high-key offends Ace when he finds out and he encourages you to be honest with Ace if you ever open up about your frustrations with him. That doesn't mean he ever gives Ace a break though, Ace is already suspicious of Yutu's intentions towards Yuu but his constant dunking on him has earned him Deuce's respect, so now he's lost both of his friends! What the hell guys you're supposed to be on his side!

Ace's distrust of Yutu doesn't bother Trappola Jr at all. On the contrary he thinks it's a good thing, the more he interacts with the first year group the more he appreciates how solid of a head Ace has on his shoulders. It doesn't make up for him being cringe, but it does make Yutu think he could maybe trust his dad with the truth.

I don't think any of the boys take the reveal of what Yutu's future is like well, but Ace's is especially bad. He thinks about all of the close calls he has seen you have, how afraid he was when he got those messages from you over Winter break, the S.T.Y.X. attack, every overblot he has ever seen, and now his own child is telling him that you made it through all that and his bad attempts at flirting but didn't get a happy ending. He has the same set of emotions that Yutu does, anger and grief that he has no one to really blame for. Yutu is sad he doesn't have an answer but grateful he isn't alone anymore.

The reveal makes Ace's teasing actually insufferable, he's so fucking cocky now that he knows you liiiiiike him back. See that boy over there? Actually living proof that you're into him, kinda cringe actually! He bets you used to have a crush on him too (just turn it around on him if you're in public he will melt.)

They like to try and out play each other in cards, Ace can't card count but he is better at reading people and better at cutting the deck so they have a pretty even win loss ratio. Yutu isn't above whining to Yuu about how his dad is being mean if he's on a losing streak, something that makes Ace fold quicker than he'd like. Neither of them will ever admit it out loud but they have a silent competition for your affection, Ace thinks you should be cheering for him since he's your future husband and Yutu thinks that you should cheer for him because he is capable of being honest about his emotions. When Grim starts whining for attention they call a truce and fight him instead.

Speaking of Grim, he has a relatively good opinion of Yutu in general based off seeing him as Henchuman 2 but when he finds out Ace is his dad? Respect ended he always knew that Yutu kid was a loser... all those times he refused to get him tuna make so much more sense now!

Learning about the future makes Ace even more protective of Yuu, and he doesn't make it much of a secret either. There's something about learning that your partner is supposed to die that makes you care a lot less about what your classmates think. That protectiveness extends to Yutu, but Ace is a bit more subtle with that. He understands that he isn't the version of himself that the kid needs to hear from, that he might not be able to give Yutu the support he needs but he loves the kid so much it sort of scares him. He's really looking forward to getting to be with Yuu and Yutu in the future, and if that means he has to put a little extra work in then so be it.

Sitcom Sinclairs headcanons…

I’m coming down from an anxious day, so here is some content for Bo, Vincent and Lester in my little universe with an s/o with anxiety. Self projecting? Perhaps, we shall see.

Bo…

• His gut instinct is to laugh directly in your face at first, or tell you to “grow a pair”.

•But he’s in therapy now! The man is plus one green flag (because any man who goes to therapy has a green flag, in my mind).

•So now he stops himself before it comes out.

•He’s not great at the whole “soft, mushy, comforting” deal, but he’ll go easier on you if you’re having one of your days.

•If he finds you having an attack, thats an entirely different story. His therapist taught him some grounding techniques which he will gladly walk through with you.

•Once you’ve calmed down he’ll leave, only to return with ice cream or some home cooked Southern comfort food. Please be nice, he put his whole heart into those fried green tomatoes. That gumbo is made with his blood, sweat and tears.

•As you both eat, he’ll put one of your favorite movies on the working TV.

•One armed side hug the whole time. Tightens his grip if he feels you begin to shake or breathe a little heavier.

•Anxious s/o? Slap some affirmations on that human and give them food.

Vincent…

•Again, plus one green flag.

•While he might not always understand your specific cause of anxiety, he will try. He understands what anxiety is like.

•If you’re in the middle of an attack, he’ll ask (in his own special and unique way) if you’d like him to stay or to give you space.

•Also not the best at standard means of comfort.

•Will disappear before joining you, only to return with a cup of tea and a weighted blanket. Will request that you don’t ask how he obtained the blanket. Don’t worry about it. Also don’t worry about putting it on, he’s already wrapping it around you like a cocoon.

•Will listen as long as you need, will let you wait out the waves of nerves resting on his lap as he sketches or plays with your hair (only if you agree, but he knows firsthand how relaxing and comforting it can be to have your hair played with). Don’t look at his sketches, they’re definitely not you. Totally.

•If you don’t want to talk about it, he’ll try to find another way for you to get it out. He has suggestions, but if you have other ideas he’s all ears and ready to get whatever you need.

•Speaking of getting whatever you need.. Southern comfort food makes it’s not-so-surprising return! Made with love by the twins. He will watch you and make sure you eat until you are comfortably full.

•Overall, he’s comforting by just being there, in silent support. He might not speak much, but he will make sure you know that you are safe, that you are loved dearly, and that he is always there for you.

Lester…

•His s/o is having a rough day? Hold the phone, he’s on his way. Will undoubtedly enter and announce his presence with “have no fear, Lester is here!”

•To be frank, if you’re having anxiety he’s probably anxious for a split second just because you are.

•Will make sure you are as comfortable as humanly possible while he sets to getting your mind off of your anxiety.

•If you need to talk it out, he’s there in a minute. Don’t want to talk and just need comfort and a redirection of the mind? Bam, he’s there with it.

•I think Lester would have a small house, meaning a small kitchen, you can see and smell the food he’s cooking. Oh, whats this? Southern comfort food? Wow, what a surprise.. (he’s a good chef, but he’s still nervous you wont like it. Please reassure him).

•Will put on old cassettes to watch to help distract you.

•Bonus: Jonesy snuggles.

•He’ll tell you stories to help distract you and make you laugh, like funny anecdotes about his brothers (don’t tell them he told you).

•You don’t have to do anything for the rest of the day. Just kick back and relax, Lester has it all under control. He just wants you to feel comfortable and to rest so you can feel better, in whatever way that means for you.

I'm thinking about the lost hero trio and how it seems a lot of og fans don't like most of them (except Leo, which is a whole other story to talk about) and I actually have been thinking about them a lot. Like, they either all get mischaracterized or they have the integral parts of their characters looked over.

Like, Jason is like that because he's been at that camp since he was 2. This is all he's ever known. He will never replace Percy because they are nothing alike except in the fact that they are leaders and they're both good at it just in different aspects. That's allowed. A major difference between Percy and Jason is that Percy was allowed a mother that loved him and Jason had his cohort who he saw as family as well because once again he was at camp Jupiter for his entire life. This sense of order and justice is what he's been taught for so long, it would make sense that he might find some peace at camp halfblood because he's never experienced something so relaxing as that, and he doesn't even know what it's like to be human. Most other demigods got that experience before it was revealed to them that they were one. He's always been this.

And piper, I don't know if this still happens because I wasn't on the interest for the golden age of hoo and pjo discourse, but if you look at her past you can see a direct line as to why she ends up rejecting her feminity in those first few books and why she's learning how to be herself. I feel like a lot of people forget that she's a 16 year old girl. Like, she doesn't have her life figured out and with demigod standards, she's probably going through her midlife crisis. She's still understanding who she is as a person and what she wants out of life which at the time was attention from her father and to ignore the absence of her mother.

Then Leo, everyone loves Leo I think, and yet a lot of people reduce him down to ooo funny guy!! That boy is depressed. And he has been for a long time. He's seeing everyone around him succeed while he's very utterly alone and trying his best to figure out where he fits in this weird machine and then his best friend fucking dies after he finally thought he was going to see him again. Yes, Leo is funny, but reducing him down to funny mechanic who flirts with girls takes away an integral part of his character which is his crippling self worth (which they all have) and how it stems from his childhood trauma.

Honestly, I could continue with so much. I have so many thoughts about PJO and HOO but for the sake of not pissing people off, I'm stopping here. (Also, people forget about the fact that Percy is also a deeply traumatized kid)

FSR Rambles 15 times Shadow took the kids

Dark's utterly confused face here sends me every time.

Because DARK knows that Shadow doesn't actually give a rats ass if he's okay. HOWEVER.

This is where Dark's weird understanding of lying comes in.

Because I have faith in you you can see right through Dark's clear lies.

His phrasing is ridiculous paired with his expression being deader than a fish.

Dark is lying through his teeth here and guess who taught him how to do that... :)

Vio and Shadow-

Vaati fell for it. Lmao. Not like he hasn't been betrayed before.

Shadow tries intimidation buuuuut-

Well shit that only goes so far when you haven't proved yourself to act on said intimidation.

Shadow is still afraid of Vaati, and we know from Zelda's fight with him Vaati isn't easy to kill soooooo.

Dark going to just deal with it himself and being reeled back by Shadow is sweet to an extent.

Shadow's angry Dark's so reckless but Dark's unfazed by the entire situation.

It's sad to consider Dark probably assumes temper tantrums are a normal behavior considering how frequent everyone he's watched so far has em...Just a thought.

Ngl Shadow's use of the word "Fool" in the OG manga always got a laugh out of me. His dialogue is so evil villain I try to capture that in FSR Shadow.

Shadow wanted to try to formulate a plan with Dark to get Vaati to go away but Dark questions why they'd even do that. Flabbergasting the fuck out of Shadow.

Dark HAS no sense of people working with HIM. Obviously Dark would know what team work is since...He's literally watching the team work pride parade but no one has offered HIM team work.

Vaati just bosses him around after all.

Dark's thought process on how his existence works is on full display.

He's alone. He WORKS alone and no body but him is going to get things done. Thanks Vaati.

...There's also the angle to consider he's actually learned this behavior in some capacity from Link...Link HAS been doing this shit by himself for a long time now....

So Shadow offering help is smth that gives him pause.

In the last pane the motif of Dark Link being his own cheer leader/being generally self aggrandizing pops up again.

His wording just being odd aside, he doesn't communicate what he actually WANTS to do, just that he needs Shadow's help getting close...

and from the quotes around help and the knowledge Dark can move fast as fuck on the reader's side, it's implied Dark is just placating Shadow's idea of helping rather than Shadow being actually useful in this interaction. At least from Dark's perspective.

Panel 2 here is funny because Dark makes the most NON Dark Link expression it stands out particularly just because it's funny but also like, take note of what he called Vaati here.

He just called him "Vaati".

Not "Master Vaati" or "Lord Vaati"

Just Vaati... HMM.

He also flung himself at Vaati full force so there's that.

Yeah there's a reason Vaati is fucking confused. Dark was taking another conversation out of context to try and comfort Vaati.

So if there was any doubt about if that was what Dark was doing or not: Let me put those questions to rest that is what he was trying to do. XD

The kiss particularly is funny considering...Well yeah Shadow did kiss Vio a lot.

Shadow being, reasonably flabbergasted at this interaction just gets a laugh out of me.

Vaati's got nothing to say that shit hah. Dark isn't making MUCH sense in this interaction.

Dark does show he's still loyal in some way to Vaati though.

Turns out: Vaati's just not in the mood to deal with Dark's nonsensical behavior and points out an...interesting caviat to the whole "let's recruit Dark link" plan.

They have to kill him.

In no uncertain terms, to destroy the curse would be to destroy Dark Link. So having him on your side really doesn't mean anything. As he'll do what he was created for by nature.

In a way it brings you to question how much free will Dark truly has in this equation. Also, it makes you kinda realize in a messed up way Dark and Link both suffer due to the curse. They're chained to each other on a drowning ship.

Shadow's hypocrisy on display again. He JUST helped this dude and now thinks about killing him. XD

But also: What's the answer to this?

It's a train track scenario in a lot of ways.

Also since Dark's a curse, destroying his body or hurting him won't do much good to actually get rid of the curse itself.

His body will just regenerate or he'll retreat into the headspace.

There's also the thought of, if Link died, what WOULD happen to Dark Link...

Dark is insanely hard to argue with. Because dude can read you like a book and play you like a fiddle.

You can't LIE to him and he'll speak how he feels based on what he's seen.

Like, Dark isn't even just slinging the "you're gannon" ace up his sleeve card at him. He's bringing up things Shadow himself has actually DONE. And that pisses Shadow off.

No matter how much Shadow removes himself from his past self, he still DID those things.

And it does bring to question which of these two are more "Moral".

Dark hasn't killed anyone while it's at least heavily implied in the manga Shadow at least COULD HAVE and shows the willingness to do so to Vio at least.

Dark's "reason" for not killing people is "They stop being fun."

Dead people are boring. Like Link's dad. Which is just, a roast and a half.

Dark takes his aim and fires. Bro doesn't miss a shot. He'll drag everyone.

Shadow also has hurt Vio.

Really the idea Shadow and Dark have a LOT in common is a theme.

Like Shadow can get pissed off as much as he wants at Dark, he's done WAY WORSE than this lil demon guy and can't even argue about that.

The question of how much Dark truly means here is also up in the air as Dark will just say things on other's minds.

Reminder Dark is straight terrified of Shadow Link and just kinda shuts down when Shadow gets peak pissed off at him.

Dark sees Vaati as a fool who needs his help, and seeks Shadow as a threat who's going to hurt him.

Usually actions would speak louder than words, but in Dark's case feeling someone's emotions is 10xs more important. And what Dark knows is Shadow genuinely despises him.

Haha remembering the time pig dad abused you.

But this time Shadow takes the place of gannon being the threatening imposing force.

Thought to consider: Shadow's fear of gannon is reflecting in Dark's fear of Shadow link because...Well Shadow is a piece of gannon. They're in a way afraid of the same entity.

Shadow puts the mask back on and tries to be good boy.

Visually Dark's tendency to grab his hat and keep it close is similar to an animal keeping it's tail tucked between it's legs.

Welp, the beans have been spilled. Dark IS still working for Vaati...Kind of.

In Dark's own words it's not "For"

but Dark never makes sense to anyone other than himself so...

He also just, assumes Shadow knows what he's there for. Which is amusing. Dark in general assumes everyone else should know everything he does.

The comparison to Zelda is baffling but if you really think about it, Dark does make some semblance of sense here:

Link protects Zelda.

Dark protects Vaati.

Tis the same thing. According to Dark Link.

Dark Link in his own words is a hero.

Shadow's reasonable question of "What's wrong with you" is such a genuine reaction to that shit it makes me laugh. Dark's actions make no sense to Shadow but Dark's affections for Vaati aren't logical hah.

Dark wants to see Vio tho and Shadow just, shuts down thinking about this situation

He didn't give Dark an answer so Dark just goes to pick flowers. XD

Shadow's in a tight situation here. What's the best course of action?

"What to do with Dark Link" and "How to introduce him to the others" is a very...difficult one to answer.

If Dark was a mindless curse with no person attached it'd be easy to just destroy him guilt free. But he's not.

Shadow can't tell if Dark's behavior is genuinely malicious or if he's just socially inept (Third option Shadow: He's just acting in accordance to the curse.)

And another thing: How does dealing/handling Dark affect how Shadow should be treated?

After all they're very alike.

Final panels shows Dark offering up a flower to Shadow.

This page is both hilarious and disturbing.

Dark offering up the flower with a cute lil hopeful expression, paired with a happy looking eye on his chest.

Shadow accepting it and being like "Ah we're cool then right-"

only to see Dark vomiting up a bunch of flowers is just, funny. I find it very funny.

It's a reminder Dark really has no sense of how horrifying he is as he's trying to be nice here. XDDD

Which Dark being able to be kind (In his own way) is again smth worth noting. Dark isn't stuck JUST making people misseriable as he actively tries to do the opposite.

Dark continuously breathing out pollen is just a very funny thing to me.

The sense of "I've fucked up" seeping back.

I was listening to the song "Nuts" from adventure time while working on these pages. I feel like that song kinda relates to Dark and Shadow's relationship.

"You're so annoying you pitiful old man. I'd like to help you but I dunno if I can. I thought you were nuts. But, you're REALLY. REALLY. REALLY NUTS."

Shadow understands what Vio meant now. XD

Running away from your issues just FEELS easier in the moment sometimes.

Shadow's confessions of being "not a hero" and being terrified about their future make Dark visibly sad.

The comment "We are afraid of very different things Shadow Link" is I think the first time really Dark's directly addressed Shadow as such without the quotation marks or general disbelief in that name/title.

If it's not, at least the moment is impactful because Dark is giving Shadow respect in a way he typically chooses not too.

Shadow is very much afraid of Vaati, so Dark not relating to that emotion is a stand out.

Him fidgeting with his hands is a detail I just find cute.

"I feel that thing you hate" - directed at Vaati is Dark confessing he feels pity for Vaati. Since in FS Shadow says he despises pity.

Dark explains WHY he pities Vaati, he just finds Vaati utterly pitiful. XD

They have a little moment of bonding over their shared experiences with Vaati.

Dark mimicking Vaati here showing what he wishes Vaati would say to him:

Dark Link wants praise and affection and relationships with others.

But due to his very nature it's very difficult to actually gain these things, and the people he's spoken to outright deny him of these in any meaningful way.

Shadow's question of "Aren't you afraid of what he'll do" just gets "I like Vaati" in response. Pff.

The 2nd to last panel shows smth very insightful:

Firstly that "Nobody loves Vaati" Any care Dark DOES have towards Vaati isn't just him mimicking someone else as it's safe to say everyone hates that guy haha.

More disturbingly:

Dark Link doesn't consider himself a "Somebody" and starts trailing off at the end of his sentance.

"I think it's sad, but it's his own fault...he rejects the only-" and then stops.

Dark Link referencing himself as the "person" Vaati continuously rejects but stops before he calls himself a "person" verbally.

You could imagine his continued sentence would be "He rejects the only person who cares about him"

Somebody's hair and eyes changed.

Instead of being white at the roots Dark's hair shifts to being Vio's complete hair color.

This is where we dive into psychological horror realm.

What IS Dark if not a person. IS he a person? What qualities does he have that make him a person?

Dark struggles with the distinction of if he's a "real person" or not but quickly dismisses it as smth Vio has been thinking. Which...Is true but also, considering his line about "Nobody loving Vaati" despite very much so caring about Vaati. Dark's identity crisis isn't exactly smth he has a firm grasp on.

Alright, hope you are doing well and start getting some more pleasant interactions as time passes, my dear! Meanwhile, here are the final tidbits of Japanese insight I have garnered for EC chapter five!

Glenn seems to say “I’ll beat you up/beat you to a pulp” to Seph about the whistling instead of just “I’ll kick your ass!”

This is so aggressive but funny to me because of how effortlessly Glenn witnessed Seph destroy countless soldiers earlier, haha.

When Glenn mimics his younger self, Seph asks “Why the sudden apology?” and Glenn responds with “Growing up into an adult is complicated.”

I think he was definitely acting like his silly younger self, but also teasing Seph a bit or calling back to the little guy’s apology to lighten the mood. This is probably why it gets Seph giggling. He seems to feel more relaxed at that point. His team forgives him.

Alright, now for the heavier stuff:

The climax scene where Sephiroth explains his soldier philosophy is pretty interesting in the Japanese context.

For one, you guys should know that his injury seems to be a bullet wound.

He clarifies this in Japanese saying that, “One of the “kids,” as you called them, shot me. Their aim was precise/accurate, which tells me they were also trained soldiers.” (Callback to when he said “I am a kid on the battlefield too, aren’t I?”)

I am not sure what Seph’s healing abilities are, but I find it curious that he doesn’t make much fuss over a bullet wound in his arm. It doesn’t seem to affect him much.

Secondly, in the Japanese he says that the others, “were too quick to look down on those they “labeled” as kids or elderly.”

His specific statement implies that he knows people think lesser of and look down on kids and elders, and then he follows this up by saying that, “he is always fighting those looks/that look/those eyes.”

Basically, it is implied that people look at him that way too, that they look down on him for being a kid or “lesser” and he is fighting against those disapproving eyes. It comes off like he feels monitored and belittled and is trying to overcome that with his strength.

The English translation didn’t do horrible with this part and I think they got the message across, but the “People make assumptions about me too” was a little vague compared to the more clear statement Seph makes here. I can only imagine he felt Shinra’s watchful eyes on him at all times if this is how he thinks.

Next, Seph explicitly says that, “I am a soldier that was raised to stand on the battlefield. I learned that soldiers must be strong in body and mind.”

He seems to say this in a way that suggest soldiers are worthless if they don’t have strong bodies or hearts. This also the training dialogue, so it’s interesting that he says it more like he was literally raised to be on the battlefield. His training was his entire upbringing.

Another weird detail is how much it sounds like he is almost repeating a mantra to himself when he says the next bits about needing a strong heart. He goes on about “a heart/mind that does not shake, an unwavering heart/mind, a ruthless heart/mind.”

Honestly it sounds like his training is kicking in and he is listing off what he was taught about killing without hesitation. Furthermore, he says that soldiers led by their emotions are second-rate, or old-fashioned, and that such an existence is “pointless/meaningless.”

He believes that if he is not ruthless, there is no point in existing, because he will die, he will be lesser than what he was raised to be. He has no choice. It’s kill or be killed, either by his enemies or the people that trained him.

Finally, in the Japanese context, the cyborg scene really seems to imply that despite Seph’s monologue, he completely lets his guard down after Glenn consoles him and then confesses his real feelings.

“I am not an altered/hybrid human. I never wanted to be one,” drives home the sense that Sephiroth knows he is actually enhanced and different, but doesn’t want to be…and within the context of the scene, it gets across the message of “I really never wanted any of this.”

It’s not just that he didn’t want to be Shinra’s golden soldier, he didn’t want to be born into a position that allowed him to be that in the first place. He didn’t want to be different at all—just normal. He kills like he does because he has no choice, but that scene shows him honestly admitting, even after his entire speech, that he isn’t happy with any of what he has to face. It’s tearing him apart but there isn’t anything he can do.

And there’s some more free pain for you guys lol! I can’t wait for the next chapter.

honestly im not entirely sure what i hc arlos gender. it tends to switch between cismasc and amab demiboy. also sometimes tho its amab nonbinary or agender

I decided to combine all of my Robin and Ace posts into one. I wanted to put all of my thoughts together, change some things up and add on some additional thoughts that weren't in the previous posts.

Pretty long post ahead, so beware.

(The moment that each of them fully realized that they are loved).

I think about the two of them so often it's not even funny anymore. they're so different in so many interesting ways and yet so painfully similar.

The Son of Roger and Demon Child; hated by all from a young age for crimes they didn't even commit and feared for what people believe they had the potential to become, rather than what they really were. But the way the world saw them wasn't the only thing that they had in common. They also viewed themselves in a very similar way to each other, but handled it in drastically different ways.

Robin was stuck believing what she's been told her entire life, that she was a demon who didn't deserve to live and that her simply being alive was a sin or crime in itself. People treated her as though all her worth came from what she could do, rather than who she was as a person. If she wanted food, shelter, or even companionship she had to work for it, nothing ever came for free for her. Everything had a price. Not only that, but the second they learned of who she was, they would turn on her without fail. From a young age she was all but taught that she would be betrayed again and again no matter what. Trust wasn't something she was allowed to have.

And until she met the Strawhats, she had no choice but to believe these sentiments, because no one has ever tried to tell her otherwise. Saul's words were like a far off dream that she never had hope of obtaining. She was well and truly alone for more than half of her life. So, she didn't even let herself believe she deserved to want to live. She was ultimately a was too afraid to allow herself this hope. She was scared of being betrayed again by people she had grown to love. She would rather die in silence and leave behind the image of a cold-hearted killer than allow the crew to save her, because she fully believed that they too would inevitably betray her as well regardless of the amount of love she had for them.

But she does want to live. She wants to be happy and sail the seas, learning about everything the world has to offer. She wants to be part of a family, she wants to love and be loved in return. After joining the crew, after they went through all the pain and effort of saving her simply because they loved her, she finally allowed herself to be vulnerable and express her desire to live. She even goes so far as ask for as much, she begs to live. She silently begs to be loved.

She later even embraces her demon title and flips it on those who hurt her, allowing herself to be become a devil who can protect what is precious to her. She loves fiercely and is loved fiercely in return

As for Ace, he has been told since he was young that being Roger's son pretty much made his existence a crime and that he was incapable of being loved, just like Robin. He had to be hidden away since infancy simply because of who his father was. Like Robin, he internalized all of the horrible things said to him to the point that he found his own bloodline to be 'rotten' and questioned whether or not it was a good thing he was ever born.

He also embraced the title of monster, but in a very, very different way. He placed very little value on his life and even admitted with his dying breaths that he likely wouldn't have stayed alive as long as he did if not for Luffy and Sabo. He fully subscribed to the idea that he was a monster whose blood was rotten, had resigned himself to the fact that he should die because of it. He kept his self hatred under wraps and never really let anyone in close enough to let him know that they loved him. He loved deeply, so deeply that it hurt, but he never let the people in his life love him back. He didn't think he was even capable of being loved in return.

Unlike Robin, even in his final moments, he wasn't able to allow himself to feel like he deserved to want to live or be happy. Right to the very end, he didn't think he was someone worth saving. He's grateful for his family and their desperate attempts rescue him, but it he didn't seem to be able to wrap his head around the fact that he was truly cared for. With his last words, he thanked his family for doing something that should have gone without saying; loving him. In the end, he did accept that he was loved. He died with a smile, happy to know that he was loved just as deeply in return

Both Robin and Ace deserved to live, they both deserved to be saved. And they both had people who believed so too.

In Ace's case a whole army of people who believed he was worth saving, just because they loved him. Well and truly loved him, simply for who he was. Both Ace and Robin had people willing to declare war on the entire world just to see them safe and happy. Both of them are so deeply loved that it makes your heart ache. It's just sad that one of them only realized this fact when it was already too late.

I really think Robin and Ace would have gotten each other in a way no one else in the series could have. They would have been able to sympathize with and understand each other in ways others simply wouldn’t be able to.

my bf is a self-taught metal guitarist who idolized metallica in middle school so i feel like he probably learned the same way as eddie. and the thing about metal guitar music is that a lot of them learn by ear and by listening instead of by the book. in fact the book that came out for master of puppets (album) was riddled with mistakes at the time so eddie probably learned it by ear. once you get the hang of how metal guitar playing works it's all kinda the same. master of puppets isnt easy per se but it's not the most difficult either. but i bet if i dropped a tab in front of him he'd be clueless. 5% chance this boy can read music

YEAH LITERALLY like Okay i'll be serious for a second sorry i like to joke around and i love making fun of eddie to combat the waves of people who think he's so cool when he's literally a beautiful midwest LOSER i think yeah definitely with the time frame of it's release to when he actually played it alone he totally just learned by ear by playing it over and over in his room with only the power of someone with unmedicated audhd AND YEAH afaik master of puppets is hard but playing it doesn't make him a super genius musical virtuoso it is the short amount of time he had that people glean that from i think but i think he's just funny and crazy. one man metallica cover band.

if i had to actually think about it i think ppl feel like they have to assign... perfection and extreme talent to the characters they love in order for them to BE lovable which is a weird way to interact with the world i guess UMM like i get it i also am in a word Protective of the perception of characters i like and i enjoy seeing then succeed or be acknowledged for their hard work in a way like that like there's a reason those .. bamf tags existed LOL 😭 it's like being able to see a projection of their worth to US especially with a character like eddie who was like. treated unfairly the way he was and no one GOT to appreciate his talents and the joy he could bring people but i also think that's just not very fair as well and puts the worth of someone entirely in what they can provide and if they're "good" at it. and doesn't acknowledge that most importantly actually people DID get to experience the real him and all the cool things about him contained in his existence and the tragedy of his horror story is that it was something that has to be and will always be kept secret but like. his loved ones do have those memories and even if he's then handwavingly alive they still get to see EDDIE and not um. a murderer or whatever. and he doesn't need to be any more than that right

like i think eddie is good at guitar really i don't think he's GREAT i don't think he's professional level i don't think cc would ever leave the garage it was founded in but it's a way for him to have fun which means it's cool. and people in his life appreciating and loving him for being like. eddie. and not for being a human being with this hidden unrecognised ~talent~ is 10 times more meaningful imo... that one post of sarah or em's that's like his friends coming to his performances at the hideout bringing the roof down every tuesday to a crowd of 2 people is way more true and beautiful than i don't know. some sort of simon cowell story. also it would just be so funny and yeah i don't think he can read music at all in fact i think whatever process he does have would have any other musician slowly succumbing to stress induced psychosis

Matteo - He writes his own music and also plays a few instruments! He wanted to go into music production for college, but that never worked out. He also really likes to write - he writes buffy the vampire fics, and many of them are self insert or smutty LMAO. He'd get into x-files too once someone showed it to him :)

Ellis - He does embroidery! His mother taught him and he's really into it. He also watches trashy soap operas - and he draws, but most people don't know it and wont get a chance to see it. He's very good - he would've done something more arts or sports related if his father hadn't pushed him towards being a detective u_u

Blake - He cooks (if you consider his chefly abominations cooking). He doodles. He games like a gamer. He causes fights on purpose. But more than anything. He likes to take pictures :)

Okay this is a fun question bc I drop the Matteo lore every chance I get bc its so funny to me. Ferret inspired little man. But the truth is, the others...all came about because the world Matteo resides in, needed them?

LIKE GFJKSHGFL He is the sun around which the ocs I have created rotate even if they don't really ever interact, bc through him I start thinking about gaps in the world or things that would be fun to add. He's the filter and everyone who appears is condensed little nuggets of an idea.

Vance exists because he needed a Boss. In needing a Boss, Vance's storyline also very nicely added up to being a catalist.

Julia exists because the plot needed a hook. Because of that, she's developed into something more, and my wife and I are actually in the middle of reworking her purpose to better fit agency into her whole situation.

Others came about for similar reasons - what is this story missing, and who can I fit into it to help fill it out?

From there idk. I just take elements that feel like the right "vibe" from the mental library in my brain and fiddle with it until it looks/feels right....it's not often a very directly-inspired-take??? Moreso I'm not often entirely aware of the influences going into the oc, bc I do it based on vibes KJKJGHSLKDJF

I'm fascinated by Jordan and Henry together.
