more reborn au chunin exams ->

so i'm trying to backtrack from my "mission goes wrong" post, which is actually a horrible way to construct a plot, but here we are. anyway this post is therefore about the tournament section of the exam, but to recap: team 4's main goal is to extract a captive from iwa, but the iwa-konoha tensions are still pretty high so it has to look like a legit attempt at pushing a team through the exam. the tournament is the day when they can guarantee basically everyone in the village is distracted, so that's the day they pick to do the actual extraction. it's also a day when the entire team has to be seen publically

tori: well i'm not a combat shinobi, so i'll just get out on my first match

so i think part of tori's character arc for this section is that she's like. significantly more badass than she thinks she is. it's not that she's a particularly gifted fighter-- it's that my goal for late-plasticity tori is that through wit, creativity, a few minutes of prep time and lot of experimental fuinjutsu, she can actually take out an experienced ninja. she's just having a very hard time integrating "while in the heat of battle!!" into her sense of self.

both itachi and deidara are both like "aren't you fighting some dweeb? you can't THROW your match people will notice" meanwhile tori is like. no i think there's a very high chance i will try and then just fail

B U T itachi has the match right after her, so if she wins, she'll be up against him next. (we just assume itachi will win, obviously.) i was thinking about how canon made sasuke vs gaara a first round match and how that seems like bad seeding to me if that was the match most people wanted to see..... like i know it was decided "randomly," but..... c'mon. so i decided they made it a first round match because that's how they could GUARANTEE this high-profile match.

so i decided first round for this should be itachi vs kurotsuchi 0:)

the OTHER part of tori's character arc is that despite coming off as "the nice one," she is phenomenally bad about thinking about her teammates as people she should be looking out for and actively protecting. tori understand the benefits of teamwork in theory, obviously-- she's just used to having to actively fight whoever she's working with the entire way, and also maybe one day they will just kill her for no reason.

so tori's chunin exam plan is thus: win her fight with minimal effort so she's fresh as possible to fight itachi, and also fuck up itachi's match as much as she can. so instead of extended training montage or whatever, she buddies up with kurotsuchi tells her how to fight itachi. not like, treasonous amounts of info-- but she warns her he favors genjutsu and stuff like that. also i'm not 100% on how she wins her first match yet, but i'm thinking it involved lies to make the other guy panic and give up, possibly with a low-effort assist from kurotsuchi? (think nibe's fight in homemade dynamite)

anyway kushina is like "nooooo D; tori what are you DOING" because yeah kunoichi are tricky people but WHY DID YOU SELL YOUR TEAMMATE OUT TO THE TSUCHIKAGE'S GRANDDAUGHTER ARE YOU INSANE

tori: ??? itachi? he'll be fine. look, he won

and then i want the tori vs itachi fight to be like. good. like she's not going to win, but she does make him work for it*

*part of it is that itachi doesn't want to seriously injure her, and tori looked deep inside her heart and decided she would beat itachi to a bloody paste if given the opportunity

tori limps out of her fight, and taking her to medical is kushina's excuse for why they both dip out of the tournament early.

EDIT: iwa does not pass any of them for petty bullshit reasons they just make up.

Donation Scams

Over the years, several users have popped up out of nowhere claiming they need mutual aid. Now generally, for the most part, those who are asking for aid usually are legitimate users. Unfortunately, recently, some who are sending asks for aid are actually scammers using randomly generated blog names and posing as someone who needs aid while stealing the information from those who really need help. They will even go so far as stealing the info from someone who may have passed away recently with little care to what happens from theft.

I am not saying all users needing aid are scammers; Rather, there are those who are mixed in with the real users and making it difficult to find them by yourself. I will attempt to explain how these scams work as best as I can with examples given.

tl:dr - Scammers are stealing info from legit donation posts from numerous places and currently spamming asks to reblog their scam posts or making up stories in asks telling you to reblog their posts. Searching their username will generally reveal they stole info.

Please share if you'd like. I'm not a popular blog, and sadly some popular blogs have fell for these scams. All I ask is that you remain civil, I am aware most people will already know how to spot scams but this is for those who haven't yet learned how to.

So how do these scams work? A person will join this site with a random username that's clearly been auto-generated and then go about editing their profile to fit whatever they chose to scam by. This may be targeting LGBTQA+, natural disasters that are still being recovered from, other minorities, or fandom related. Regardless of the case, they will copy/paste blog headers from someone else and edit their blog info to anything relevant to what they decided to use for the most part. Once that's done, they'll start searching tags.

These tags they search may also be relevant to their scam, or random posts they'll group together to look somewhat relevant. Usually a fandom tag, a tag for cool things, or a tag for an animal of sorts and generally just any tag that will also be used to look legit. Once they have chosen a tag, they will reblog about 20 posts from the tag but it's usually in the span of several minutes all at once. They will not tag these reblogs, and may occasionally reblog a few days later.

After this, they'll make a donation post. They'll add images to this post that may be sensitive, use words that are guilt tripping towards the reader, or steal the story someone else had when they had coped the post. Usually, though, the story they tell is just copy/pasted from wherever they stole the pics from. Generally speaking, they are from facebook/gofundme/etc and edited enough you may not easily locate the sources. After they make the main post, they'll add a paypal in the post as well that isn't the paypal that would have originally been in the post. At times, the original post did not have paypal listed! Sometimes, though, a different funding site is listed that isn't one very well known.

Afterwards, the scam blog will then start sending asks to reblog their pinned post, which is the donation post. The ask may tell someone to answer privately, an effort to obscure the ask from those who are searching it in tumblr search. They will send these asks out all at once to random users, many who will reblog the post without much attention to it's contents. However, some will take notice of this blog and search it's contents to find out it's rather new. Generally, these blogs are a few days old with no other posts.

Once called out, the scammer will then start to block anyone whose reblogged their posts saying their a scam. They'll also hide any reblogs so it won't show up in the notes.

So please, do your research if you get an ask that asks you to reblog a pinned post. Check to see how old the blog is, how many posts they made, and if the ask was sent to several other users. It's also good to search the paypal name for any existing alerts.

u Probably already know this but i got a random anon with no sources cited saying you were a pedophile and trying to "silence" anyone who "exposed" you (??) the language was inflammatory with absolutely zero things to back up their claim + i hadn't even having reblogged one of your posts recently so i think there might be someone running through reblogs on your posts and sending those types of anons to those people as some sort of smear campaign?? completely and totally perplexing. anyway if you get any weird messages from anons or other people just wanted to let you know that that might be the cause of them. feel free to delete this or not publish it and i hope no one is weird 2 u lol

im talking about the essay grade again and i got off topic and started talking about the lit analysis potential inthe vast majority of fanfictionbjust. Ignore

i feel like it's such a humblebrag for me to be like "i don't understand how i continually get really good grades in english" because i understand objectively that 1) i am very good at analysis and/or. finding quotes to support whatever the fuck thesis i decided would be easy to support (see: "good at analysis") (i think i honestly just randomly hit the jackpot on "good thesis" but on god i just looked at macbeth and gawain respectively and was like Ah. Women's Wrongs. Easy Peasy) and 2) i know from looking at other people's essays that i am just kind of. marginally-to-a-lot better at grammar and phrasing/understand the very specific madlibs-style layout i have to use and what vocabulary that i need to be putting out. it's madlibs. there's a really technical and specific layout that needs to be followed and i just kind of follow it. it's not hard. it is boring. if i could write academic papers on the shit i'm actually interested in they'd be worthless because it's niche and/or wild tumblr user conjecture. anyone who seriously writes on. hold on i need to generate a thesis. "the cyclic nature of abuse and its direct correlation to homoeroticism in cn's supernatural" could u fucking imagine. that's hilarious. that's some hackjob shit no matter how well i could keep a straight face on the matter because all that people care about is Old Shit. i have no real vested interest in actual literary works beyond "they're important and better than people think". i have extremely strong feelings on a lot of modern works, generally movies and shows and niche dnd webshows, i cannot make a career in that shit, my english prof thinks fanfic is bullshit and i see where he's coming from! i don't think it's bullshit. but. the academic perspective on fanfiction is like "they're not making original work" because the setting/adjacent themes and characters r lifted from another work and there's no real originality in it except that the best fics i've read are like.. an alternate form of literary analysis that is so far from actual essay writing that it's unrecognizable. but people can see the themes and the motifs and rehash them in a way that is absolutely a kind of analysis of the original work, but with flourishes and new ideas and batshit choices that the og media either couldn't make/didn't feel like making/tentacle sex wasn't really thematically fitting but an author decided "hey what if i put themes into this consentacles fic" and like, i want to argue that that's legit. sometimes. but i am not going to do that bc i sound objectively insane and also sometimes it is just not that deep and that will be brought up as an argument and i just don't care enough to explain that it's still an art form even if it's not that deep. is "fun and funky fresh" not a common motivator. if "new interpretations" of works like shakespeare and shit where they plunk the characters into a modern setting and fuck with the phrasing is seen as a viable art form/type of analysis then fanfic is an art form/analysis adjacent to that. not all of it though. some of it is something else that is worse. not that i think that is in itself bad. fanfic is a hobby. can't make a career out of that. but people have made careers out of that by changing the names and setting and publishing books. and that's viable apparently. i just personally am insane and enjoy writing very serious and/or emotionally driven meta on dnd shows. i like themes and motifs and i think that while a quickly written meta post on the tragedy inherent in redemption arcs that hit 50k is absolutely not as academically sound as a cited paper on a similar subject, there's Something To It and there's got to be some kind of potential in it. i like stories. idk if i could make a living out of talking about stories especially from the insane angle that i tend to hit stories at. the possibility of making it a genuine career is driven down below ground after i take into consideration my insanity about modern stories vs my neutrality on older ones. what am i talking abt. bf is yelling for me bye

I do not think they necessarily are in a relationship and will not makeassumptions about sexualities etc. but Lando, Carlos and Daniel literally friendzone each other and see each other as bros who pretend gay shit for a joke. they're also happy to not so much as think about each other for months on end let alone even see each other for anything other than F1 travel or group trips. but Martin? is in Lando's life significantly bc he actively chooses to be! when the season ends, for two years now he and Lando have done the thing all the drivers do with gfs and wives and spend almost every moment with each other on getaways! Lando liked a comment calling Martin his wag and didn't make a joke about it! they don't do anything bromancey or fake gay together! Lando genuinely gets bashful and quiet when asked about Martin! they're not bound together by work responsibilities and most of their time together is created in the small spaces their different careers allow! they're both actually single!

again, I am not wanting anyone to actually push this ship directly onto Lando or Martin or their personal content anymore than they already are. but I do have to laugh when I see two rpf ships fighting it out for who Lando wants more when like. if you apply real life logic and not manufactured bromance, Martin is the only candidate !!

Its fine dont worry lmao im just gonna warn you its a long ass ramble on what happened. there will be a tldr thing in the bottom since this is gonna be a biggg ass ramble. Tw for accusations on pedo/grooming + manipulation + mentions of the world war 2 causing guy

a lil insight on what happened before this shit happened. (this was on another website) there was a person (we gonna call them oliver tree fan) who was caught drawing nsfw of the ww2 causing guy on a alt acc with someone else. the person who caught them was actually a ex of mine (we gonna call them "M") M vented to me about it since the other person who was on the alt acc used to be a friend of M. I never liked oliver tree fan. they harrassed many of my friends and was just a shitty person in general. i called the oliver tree fan out since the website was pretty small and everything was silent for a lil bit. Then oliver tree fan started harassing M. ANDDDD OOOOO BOY that made me pissed. But i knew Oliver tree fan was trying to start shit so i ignored them and tried to help M. Then oliver tree fan decided to go to my acc later on and said "im gonna block ya now" i was very pissed since it didnt make sense to me and i vague posted about them THIS MADE OLIVER TREE FAN VERRYYYY ANGRY. so what did they do? they made a callout post randomly on me. Basically the callout post was about me being a groomer/predator and how weird it was for me to like characters from shows and how i was manipulative to my friends and i was dating a close friends partner and that i was faking my age bc i didnt look 16 (she had a face pic of mine </3 also yeah this was like. near 2 years ago) I did had faults. i did do stupid shit. im not gonna deny that. i dated a 10 year old when i was 14 i wasnt sexual but it was still fucking wrong. i have cut contact with them a long while ago but around a year ago i did apologize to them. that was a shitty thing to do. i did treated some of my friends very shitty. and i take full fucking blame for that. i apologized to them and we made up. but since. it was a small website. many people believed i was this shitty person and i deserved to go to jail and shit. i panicked to my friends and basically had a big old panic attack that night. oliver tree fan then decided "hey! ill delete the callout if you friend me on discord and talk to me" and i did just that. oliver tree fan basically made me BEG. to have the callout taken down. telling me i was in the wrong i didnt deserve shit. then asked me to delete callouts/screenshots. i did that and then they decided "hey now we friends :D". we also made a deal not to talk shit about eachother AND. not to M. (since around this time M lost someone VERY important in his life in a awful fucking way.) i felt so uncomfy and terrified but i couldnt talk back to them or else i was scared i would get "called out" again. i was added into groupchats that was dissing on my friends and alot of other shit. they kept talking shit to me. to my partner at the time and alot of others. they were very 2 faced and fucking awful to me and many others. i didnt get the worst of it and it was just.. vfnjcnjdcs god fucking awful. many people figured out Oliver tree fan was a shitty mother fucker. and if you see this oliver tree fan (bc i know you stalk me </3) fuck off. legit your a fucking awful person. made me fucking scared for my fucking life for at least 4 months. you made me feel like utter garbage. i really hope you get what you deserve. tldr: Oliver tree fan was a shitty person to me and M (partner at the time now they are a ex of mine) decided to call me out and call me a pedo/groomer manipulator and other shit when i called them out. many people believed Oliver tree fan. they manipulated me into deleting evidence. we made a deal not to talk shit about eachother. ofc they talked shit and treated M and others like shit. then people figured out Oliver tree fan was a shitty person.

Then there's the ones that just like to be haters to him, her or both. I mean hell, they tried to say ladybug on her hand video, was her flipping off his fans. Irrational.

If their gut is telling them everyone else is wrong or crepy, weird toxic, and etc then I'm going to question just how good their gut can gage reality. It doesn't make sense that a stranger would be more correct, than all the people that actually know her.

Should we talk about a place that I HATE and will not return to ever again?

I bet you weren’t expecting that, were you?

Would you also be surprised that it is a place that allegedly has buried treasure from a King of Albania?

💰: FREE (aren't the worst things in life always free?)

⏰: 9:30am to 4:30pm, 365 days

🌎: 34 Muttontown Lane, East Norwich, LI (Chelsea Mansion)

♿️: not really? The grounds around Chelsea Mansion are manageable but don’t go to Muttontown Preserve

🏃‍♀️: it’s 550 acres and a maze, but sure! call it beginner if you want.

🐶: No pets, but I’ve also seen people walking their dogs and maybe you need an animal to guide you out of this hellhole

🚗: park by Chelsea Mansion, if you read nothing else, just PARK BY CHELSEA MANSION

Okay, TECHNICALLY, I DID return very briefly a few weeks ago BUT that was only to get pictures of WHERE NOT TO GO. And I did not step foot out of the parking lot. This place gave me PTSD.

Why create what will essentially equate to a “shitpost”, you may ask?

Why not just NOT include it?

Because people should be WARNED.

I looked at the google reviews recently and finally found out I was not alone. For years this place has haunted me.

How did my friend, @himynameisnotjoby and I get SO lost?

We literally had a paper map PROVIDED BY THE PRESERVE and we STILL got the kind of lost where we started to get legit worried and it was getting dark and we were only getting MORE lost. The kind of lost that involved scaling fences and bushwhacking and eventually listening for the sounds of cars and just following that and hoping it led us towards one of the main roads, which by the way IS how we got ourselves UN-lost eventually.

Muttontown Preserve deserves a post because it is a DANGER to Long Islanders.

The amount of reviews on Google that mention just how deeply lost people have gotten over the years was staggering, and also validating for Joby and I. One person even mentioned that you shouldn’t go there without a literal compass because THAT is how big the potential for getting hopelessly disoriented in this hellscape masquerading as a “Preserve” is.

According to the Nassau County website, Muttontown Preserve is 550! ACRES, making it the largest nature preserve on Long Island.

Those aren’t facts, THOSE ARE WARNINGS!

The same website also claims that “The preserve includes miles of marked nature trails with local wildflowers, trees, birds…” blah blah blah. MARKED TRAILS, MY ASS.

Allegedly, the trail markings HAVE been improved in very recent years, but I refuse to go back and see if that’s true for myself so if you decide to go, you are doing so of your own volition.

There are four things that lure people to the Muttontown Preserve (of Lost Souls):

equestrian trails

“safe” hiking for normal people WHO JUST WANTED TO ENJOY A NICE WALK AT A NEW PARK

Chelsea Mansion

The hidden treasures of the last King of Albanian

So, where does one start?

I guess, do you have a horse? No? Then don't come here!

I honestly think this place would’ve been less scary if at least I had been on a horse because also when you get lost for AS LONG as Joby and I did that ill-fated day, you start to get tired, which is also scary. My legs were TORN UP from bugs and thorny bushes. A horse would’ve, in theory, solved that. But we didn't have horses and unless you have one though, don’t come here. And even if you do... don't come here.

PARKING SITUATION (THIS IS IMPORTANT):

The problem for Joby and I that harrowing day, I think, was that I learned about Muttontown Preserve because I drove past it randomly (probably on the way back from a different park in the area) and drove past the Equestrian Parking entrance off of Jericho Oyster Bay Road/Route 106 and thought that was the only parking area.

DO NOT PARK AT THE EQUESTRIAN PARKING AREA OFF OF JERICHO OYSTER BAY ROAD/ROUTE 106! I DO NOT CARE THAT IT IS THE CLOSER PARKING AREA TO THE OLD KNOLLWOOD ESTATE AND KING ZOG’S TREASURE. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO FIND THE TREASURE ANYWAY, YOU WILL PROBABLY NEVER FIND YOUR WAY OUT OF THE PRESERVE IF YOU GO IN SEARCH OF IT. AGAIN, I WILL NOT BLAMED ON NEWS 12 FOR YOUR DISAPPEARANCE.

I’ll get back to King Zog and the alleged buried treasures and the burned down remains of Knollwood Estate in the next post.

IF YOU INSIST ON COMING TO THIS CURSED PLACE, here is my advice: SKIP MUTTONTOWN PRESERVE ALTOGETHER.

Okay, here is my ACTUAL ADVICE: drive up to Jericho Turnpike/Route 25A and park either at the parking lot next to Chelsea Mansion or you can find the entrance around the corner from the parking lot by Chelsea Mansion and park there because that is a trailhead that is usually supplied with maps.

Eh fuck it, since we don't know how long Twitter is going to last, I'm going to start randomly posting my thoughts on random ass video games here. Here's all the shit I've been playing a bunch recently.

Portal Reloaded: I legit don't know if this is an official Portal dlc or just a mod, but it's free, and it's so much fun. Do you like Portal? Do you want Portal Hard Mode (TM TM TM)? Get this funky little game. It's not quite as funny as the OG, but man are the puzzles Tough.

Divinity Original Sin II: Have I played Divinity 1? No. But I am having a ton of fun with this thing. I was not expecting to enjoy myself so much, especially considering my hatred of games with the fucking hotbars, or whatever that little UI thing is at the bottom. At the very least, it's turn based and not real time so I don't find it nearly as obnoxious. I've also been A) doing Multiplayer, and B) using a mod so that I can take all 6 of the named characters with me, which unfortunately does have the tradeoff of making the game a little too easy at times. Also, since you're not suppose to be able to have all of the characters in one playthrough certain characters just straight up will not speak to each other? Which is kind of disappointing. Come on, guys, it's a 60 hour game at minimum, it doesn't have the kind of replayability you think it does.

Professor Layton and the Last Spector: Oh, so THAT'S why plvsaa is like that. I was not expecting to adore these characters as much as I thought I would, but they are just so much fun. I haven't technically been playing, since I'm watching my friend's playthough on twitch, but the puzzle difficulty range is so wild to me. Anything from "What color is the umbrella" to "do some fucking AP Geometry fucko," which I feel like I'd find a bit frustrating, though I guess the worst of it is optional.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask (Not Finished): Can't give my final opinions here, but at minimum, the 3D graphics are a huge downgrade. I hate when visual novels decide to switch to 3D graphics. It's never going to be as charming as the sprites! Story-wise, I'm still deeply invested, and theorizing to hell and back is so much fun now that I'm getting into the swing of How Layton Games Do.

Zero Escape 999: Guys. This game drove me absolutely bonkers. I'll love any murder mystery visual novel put in front of me of course, but something about this game... Admittedly, it took me a few hours to get invested. I found the amount of talking a bit exhausting, especially when SO MUCH of it was dedicated to things like "Let's walk through this whole room trying doors, talk about it, and then start trying new doors." Like I don't need to know the logistics of "we're locked in a boat." I don't need to know where everyone is at all times. But once I went through one full playthrough, and could skip a lot of those boring logistical issues, I got SO into trying to figure out what was really happening. They really did give us the exact right amount of information to start figuring out what the Actual Plot was.

Zero Escape Virtue's Last Reward (Not Finished): I'm enjoying myself so much, but somehow, everything kind of feels like a downgrade? The 3D graphics (especially the lip flaps) suck ass, and there's so much stuff that feels like it's pulled from Danganronpa. Guys, I liked Danganronpa. I liked Zero Escape because it WASN'T Danganronpa. I don't know, I've hit my first real ending, so I'm hoping that it's just still waiting to impress me, but the main conflict just feels less personal this time around.

Dragon Age: Origins: I love playing watching my roommate play this game and then letting me make all of the narrative decisions. I just. I hate the gameplay, but the story is fun as heck. There are some weird writing choices, clearly, but the characters are fun to talk to and that's all that matters. It doesn't give me as strong found family vibes as other RPGs, but I still love them anyway.

Disco Elysium: You all know my thoughts on Disco Elysium. I love you Kim. Mostly, I'm just wondering what the fate of a potential sequel is going to be. I both want it and don't, but at the end of the day, if the original creators aren't able to wrest control from that game studio, I just worry the heart isn't going to be in the next one.

Another day, another 10 minutes wasted blocking pornbots that decided to randomly join my Tumblr overnight.

Incldentally I’m now reporting them rather than just blocking. It’s actually quite easy to do as you just have to click the option flagging it as a bot and it also blocks the account, so two actions in one.

Not sure what good it will do. I’m not assuming this is a great revelation and I know I should have been reporting them all the time, but for some reason I had it in my head that the reporting system is like it is on other sites where you have to fill out a form each time. Tumblr, to its credit, makes it quick. (All that said, yes I am being careful not to report legit accounts. But an empty tumblr that uses some image scraped from an online high school athletics website as an avatar (yes I have seen a couple of those today and yes it’s as creepy as it sounds and I’d rather not be put on a list because of some bot) - it’s pretty clear it’s a bad actor not a legit account.)

I’m still curious what the owners of these bots are wanting to accomplish. It’s not like they’re selling anything and as far as I know you don’t make money on Tumblr the way Youtube is monetized. So right now I’m just assuming it’s some sort of troll - even though, other than inflating follower numbers of the target account, it’s not as if they’re gumming up the works or causing issues for me or anyone else. I just don’t like the idea that content I post or reblog could be showing up on some pornbot’s timeline.

Still, could be worse. I still get email spam quite a bit (as we all do) and I also block the senders (reporting is more onerous up here, though). Unfortunately one SOB trying to sell me on a Keto scam managed to do so by impersonating my own email address so I ended up blocking myself, rendering it impossible for me to email myself (which I actually need to do from time to time) and I had to go hunting to find how to remove myself from my own blacklist!

Ahh! Happy Birthday Shikamaru! This story has nothing to do with his birthday but here's something cute and fluffy like a yummy birthday cake.

Summary: After a less than memorable first date with Temari, Shikamaru is determined to make the next one better.

Sparks

Chouji and Ino were surprised walking into the dimly lit room with the curtains pulled tightly closed. A half eaten meal left on the table. This didn’t look like the living space of someone who just had a date with the love of their life.

“Hey Shikamaru.”

“You okay?” Chouji poked at the lump on the bed and said shinobi sat up to brush a hand through his unruly hair.

“I’m fine.” They looked thoroughly unconvinced. Shikamaru should have known that they’d be showing up after he kept avoiding seeing them.

“So…uhm how was your date with Temari?”

Their friend groaned into the hands that were covering his face. “It was a disaster.”

“Really?”

“From where we were it seemed like you two were hitting it off.” The utterly smitten look on his face was a surprising sight to see.

He bit back an annoyed statement about them snooping to sigh.

“The date was fine. We talked, the food was good but it just didn’t seem like a date would feel like I guess. It was just like… a dinner between friends. We’ve been friends for so long that I don’t know that we know how to be any more than that.”

“Is that what you want? Just to be friends with Temari?”

He’d contemplated that question since their date but kept coming up with the same answer. “No, I like her. I wouldn’t have asked her out otherwise. I just don’t know if she feels the same way and I worry that after our date she might think that all I’m interested in is being friends.”

“How did the night end?” He was annoyed knowing that Ino was fishing for information.

“Why? Was your date with Sai any better?”. He bit back as their dates had occurred around the same time.

She threw her hair back with a smug smile. “It was perfect. He gave me a bouquet of flowers. He was sweet and charming all night. And the kiss at the end of the night was just incredible.”

Even socially stunted Sai knew how to have a better first date than him. This was all so unfamiliar and new. He didn’t thrive in unfamiliar places and having to navigate relationships and feelings was challenging.

The tense look across Shikamaru’s face halted Ino’s daydream.

“How did the night end?” Ino asked again carefully.

“Well we were standing outside her door for a while. She was playing with her keys so it seemed like she wanted to go inside. It was starting to feel awkward so I shook her hand and said good night.”

“You shook her hand?” Even Chouji was shocked.

“What was I supposed to do?”

“Kiss her you idiot. She was clearly waiting for something.”

He blushed at the thought. “What if she didn’t want to kiss me?”

“Does Temari seem like the type to just let someone kiss her. She would have made it painfully obvious if she didn’t.”

“Fuck.” He groaned and laid back in bed. He prayed that he hadn’t messed up his one opportunity.

“So what do I do now?” Chouji and Ino couldn’t help but be a little amused. Shikamaru was their resident genius, smart and shrewd. Having him ask for their advice must have been humbling.

“Ask her out again, be really honest about how you feel and this time kiss her.”

Once his teammates left, Shikamaru made his way to the inn where Temari was staying. He wanted to ask her out again and was sure that this time things would be different. If he was lucky she’d agree and perhaps this time their night would end differently.

“Shikamaru?” Temari was surprised to find him a nervous wreck at her door.

Shikamaru saw her and his rational plan to talk about their relationship and it’s possible future came crashing down. He quickly prayed that his teammate's advice was correct and pulled Temari into a kiss.

He felt her tense before she melted into him. Her arms crossed behind his head. Soft and warm her lips fit so perfectly against his.

He took a quick breath once their lips parted. His hands were firmly around her waist never wanting to let go.

“Tem-“

“More…kiss me more…”. Her breathless whimper propelled him forward.

His hand moved to cradle the back of her head as he pushed her against the door. His weight heavy against her. Lips hungry. Needy. His rough hands moved wherever they could to feel warm skin against his finger tips.

He’d always known that Temari was incredible. Strong, lean body with sun rayed hair. And teal eyes that were so unique and her own.

Her lips though were his weakness. The way that they’d quirk up into that smug smirk. But sometimes soften into that sweet smile only he knew. Right now firmly pressed against his own he was left undone.

He’d been worried after their first date that perhaps that spark wasn't there to push them beyond friendship. He was so happy that he’d been wrong.

She pulled herself closer to him and yet it didn’t feel like enough. She knew it never would be.

Her heavy pants sang in his ears but her soft whimpers wordlessly asking him to keep kissing her was making him dizzy.

It was a state of weightlessness, disorienting but free that he’d gladly stay in.

Later, they sat together and he held her perched on his lap. He preferred to spend the night using his mouth for other things but he wanted to clear the air. It wasn’t easy but he told her what he thought about their first date and some insecurities that he had. It was awkward and embarrassing but honesty was what they’d built their friendship on.

“I was worried that I’d bored you, or maybe you thought it was just a normal friendly dinner. Perhaps I should have made it much more elaborate just so you really knew how I felt.

Temari paused to stare at him intently. He tried to keep his eyes on hers but they inevitably drifted to stare at her lips. They quirked into a sweet grin.

“I look at it differently. I think that it’s something that I’ve learned from you. There can be a lot of joy in everyday life. Cloud watching, deer keeping, lazy, familiar, quiet moments. So yes, perhaps there will be parts of our relationships that seem normal or routine but in some ways I like it. Because you’re my safe place, my stability. That’s all I’ve ever wanted.” Her hand affectionately brushed through his hair. Love shining in her deep eyes.

“It’s you.”

He was surprised by her response even though he shouldn’t have been. Their lives had always been marred by a touch of chaos and uncertainty. He’d gladly be her anchor.

.“Tem…”. He pulled her in tight kissing her surely and soundly.

“Life together with you will always be an incredible adventure. As long as it’s you and me in the end.”

She relaxed into him and his view of their future did sound incredible.

“They were right by the way. I really did want you to kiss me that night.” She admitted with a blush. She’d never been more annoyed at the supposed genius.

“I’ll never make that same mistake again.” And he sealed that promise with a kiss.

My deers! How have you been? I miss you all. I hope that you enjoyed this little story from me. It was inspired by something that I think I read somewhere about Temari and Shika's first date.

I have so many WIP/ideas but I'm terribly unmotivated to write. This story has been sitting in my folder for months now so I decided to clean it up for Shika's birthday. Okay, babes please continue to take care of yourselves. I love you all!
