...devlog #1??? - mini BG3 VN
So I recently downloaded Renpy because I wanna learn how to code in my spare time and I figured I'd write about it here for both posterity & to record my process with it all!
The project I'm starting with will be quick and easy because 1) I really don't want to start with something huge 2) I have work & commissions to take care of and those will come first.
About the project:
If you've been following me you know I've gotten hugely into bg3 so I thought why not code a little scene where you get to meet my durge, Brigha! I'll put my goals and expectations under the cut. Here's my first renpy test ft. Wyll.
First of all, what the hell is Renpy? Very simply put, Renpy is a software that allows you to create visual novels. You can check it out (and even download it for free!) here.
The "mini VN" I'm working on will feature a scene in Act1 of how I imagine you'd meet and recruit (or not!) my durge if she were a companion in the game, featuring some neat little things and details that I will hopefully be able to implement.
This is what I want to put in:
Ability to input your character's name;
(royalty free) music playing in the bg;
Multiple dialogue choices with (very small) dialogue trees;
Perhaps some pop ups like perception checks or companion approval/disapproval;
Companion pop up comments, randomized in one instance towards the end;
Two endings.
It might seem like a lot and it probably is - I might cut a couple these to make sure I don't spend too much time getting the vn out there.
So far I have the first draft of the script ready and I'll probably leave it as is unless testers will point out inaccuracies or weird phrasing. Here is a little concept of how I imagine Brigha will be dressed when you meet her:

Sprite wise she'll probably be the only one to have a full body/expressions (to preserve my wrists) but I might also draw little simple headshots of the other companions for when they'll pop up to comment.
As for backgrounds I will spare myself and just grab screencaps from the game that I will blurry/apply effects to, just to make them look a bit more coeshive with the sprites.
This is all I have so far! The VN will be available to play for free on your browser once I'm done with it :) ETA undetermined since this is a free time project done for fun.

We've discussed a lot of SoapGaz and PriceGaz, but there is one more. GhostGaz of the OF au.
FUCK. Gaz is immediately is told by Soap that Ghost is subbed. This gets him an idea... I mean, he needs to record this night, but his camera guy, and Soap are gone!! :[
He pretends to be shy and flustered as he asks if Ghost could help him film something... personal.
"I just need someone to hold the camera is all~ I promise I'll do extra laps in the morning if you want-" he doesn't do those extra laps because Ghost REALLY wants to do this and immediately says yes. Now Gaz is actually flustered because oh fuck my Lieutenant is so close, and he's watching every little movement!
Halfway through filming, Ghost just takes over, pulls out whatever silicone bs Gaz is using and puts on a condom[safety first both Gaz and Ghost agree] and with a lot of lube it becomes a POV video. Lord Gaz never felt it so rough, so he's like IN HEAVEN right now. Barely able to process how a humans hips can be so rough, precise AND FAST??? He's babbling nonsense at that point and Ghost has decided that this is not film he can use, putting the video down so he can out Gaz into a mating-press and JUST BLAM BLAM BL- Okay you get it I like rough Ghost.
Maybe there is a few spanks in between and the camera, though placed down randomly, still gets all of it.
Afterwards, Gaz being the freaky man he is, sees the condom about to be tied and tells Ghost, "Don't throw that away. Pour it on my face-"
.... that was the last clip of the video, was Gaz's cum filled face before it all cuts. They have a genuinely nice shower[Ghost incredible aftercare headcanon] and Gaz immediately says, "well I've got to do some editing in this-"

At first Ghost is hesitant. ''Are you sure you want this?'' he's alright being a regular subscriber, but Gaz is adamant that yes, he trusts him.
And he doesn't regret it one bit. Ghost takes full advantage of Kyle's background as a gymnast. He manhandles him like he's a puppet and folds him as much as he physically can.
Also if you're wondering why Kyle is apologizing to him... He admitted to teasing Ghost for two whole weeks, making his life a living hell by constantly making sure he's on his mind. He sent him pictures in the middle of the day, random messages and looks from across a room. Ghost was starting to get heated under his mask.

Hi! Medium time listener (I followed after slarpg altered my brain chemistry), first timer asker! What is your process when it comes to composing for games? Is it any different when the subject changes (personal, commission, etc)?
hehehe, well i hope that alteration was a positive one! 😋
so i think there's kind of two sides to this: there's the creative process, and the collaborative process.
The Creative Process
my creative process is actually pretty similar whether i'm working on contract or for personal enjoyment.
first, i consider:
the needs of the prompt in front of me (is it a save menu or a boss battle? is it a tense scene is or a tender one?)
how it should fit into the bigger picture of the whole project (mood/tone, genre, leitmotifs, instrumentation, production style, etc)
what tools i will need to use (subtractive synth or sampler or soundfont or live recording?)
then, i typically write what i call a "skeleton:" just the barest bones of a piece of music. i almost always do this on piano, dividing the bass, harmony, and melody into very distinct registers. i do it this way for several reasons learned the hard way:
first, by dividing parts into clearly delineated registers, i'm saving myself a whole lot of trouble down the line. i have long had a bad habit of over-crowded arrangements, which besides being weaker from a composition standpoint, are also notoriously difficult to mix. and mixing is already hard enough as it is! so writing a strong and well balanced composition from the outset is the best way to go.
second: when you jump into arranging or mixing before the whole piece is written, it's much easier to get stuck. where should i take this track next? i dunno, guess i'll fiddle with the mix. suddenly a week's gone by and i'm still working on a half-written track. if i require myself to write the whole piece out first, then this bottleneck is almost always eliminated.
sometimes you can get really excited about an idea, get carried away with arranging and producing a whole track, get to feeling really attached to it—only for your collaborator to say it's just not the right direction. by limiting myself to one instrument, i don't put in a disproportionate amount of work before confirming whether or not the piece is actually a good fit. and bonus, if it's not a good fit then i have a piece of music written that can serve another project later (or another part of the current project, if i'm lucky)!
of course, i'm not always perfect about this. even very recently, i got really stoked about a track i was cooking up for susan taxpayer and went BANANAS with it—only for punkitt to say she loved it but it wasn't at all the right vibe. a hard but necessary reminder of why i try not to get carried away prematurely!
(don't worry, the one i made to replace it fit like a glove, and the first attempt is gonna be used elsewhere. love wins 😌)
once i do have confirmation that i'm headed in the right direction with an idea though, that's where i really get into it with choosing instruments, designing synths, figuring out the production style, etc. and there's where the real back-and-forth with my collaborator begins, to make sure things are staying on track every step of the way. that leads us to:
The Collaborative Process
for starters, and probably most obviously, different people are different to work with. everyone has different strengths and challenges both creatively and interpersonally, so i try to meet my collaborator where they're at and tune in to their specific needs, vision, and communication style. within reason, i try not to look at these things as being "better" or "worse" with one person versus another, just different!
i think the biggest differences for me as far as how much time and energy i invest into a project are A) whether it's paid or pro bono, and B) my own level of personal excitement about the project.
if i'm doing something purely for fun, it's pretty exclusively because i'm really hyped about the project. because, well, it wouldn't be fun if i weren't, right? and in that situation, i enjoy giving it my all! susan taxpayer falls firmly into this category, and i'm having a blast with it.
SLARPG started out pretty similarly, but as the scope of the project grew, it evolved into more of a pro bono arrangement; bobby and i drafted up a contract and negotiated on how we would split earnings from the game once it released, and that's where i've gotten the vast majority of my income this year. it remained a passion project til the end, but i could not in good conscience put that much of my life into a project of that size unpaid, no matter how much i loved it! (maybe one day, if we collectively defeat capitalism and i no longer have to worry about such things... 🥲)
things get a bit different when you get into strictly contract work, though. when it's something i'm doing for a client who's paying from the start and it's not for my own enrichment, i have more hard and fast boundaries on how much of myself i put into the project. i have specific rates, and offer only so many free revisions before charging additional fees. sure, i can be horribly particular and will revise something a bazillion times to get it "just right" if i'm working on a passion project, but i'm not about to do that for like. a corporate commercial or whatever lol
whether it's for fun or all business, though, i always try to make something i'm proud of. because i want whomever i collaborate with to have something they're happy with in the end, of course! plus i'm kind of allergic to phoning it in, i'm too extra for that 😜

Crackpot Predictions - Only Friends Episode 1
Welcome to a new thing I do where I try to predict (*cough* wildly guess *cough*) what's going to happen in a show based solely on my read of the first episode. I'll try to cover all of what I think are the main story beats, record them here for posterity (and so I can either say "ha I told you so" or you can all point and laugh at me later), and hopefully by the end of the series we'll all be able to see if I'm a clairvoyant with a magic orb or, alternatively, a numpty with a glass paperweight. Some of these predictions are completely serious, others are complete crack, and some are just random thoughts that had the misfortune of wandering into my head.
With that, let's get started shall we?
The Hostel

Setting up a hostel for your graduation project? How cute!And with your best friends too? How adorable!
Too bad that hostel is absolutely Not Going To Happen. And not only is the hostel Not Going To Happen, its also going to be the site of some of the worst moments of your entire lives!
Prediction: is this is where it's all going to go down, this is where they're going to have the final argument, this is where the climax is going to happen, this is where shit hits the fan and then explodes. I mean why else would you introduce a building site if not to have all your characters have mental breakdowns symbolically in the middle of it? Scaffolding and painter's tarp is for screaming matches and for saying things you never meant to say.
Mew

Oh Mew. Soft, virginal, innocent Mew. Mew who lives in a completely different world to his friends where he wears cute pastels, gets a teen movie montage when he wakes up in the morning, gets a public confession like something out of a romance movie... Surrounded by people with impure thoughts and even worse intentions. What on earth is going to become of our sweet pastel boy?
Who am I kidding, he's going to be fine.
In fact he's probably going to be one of the few people who is fine by the end of this series, and will probably be at least partially responsible for quite a lot of other people being very fucked up (especially Top, sorry my man but you are doomed by the narrative). He's definitely doing to be hurt and he's definitely going to lose his honour student title and he's definitely going to have less friends by the end of this but he'll be fine, he's literally the only one in the friend group other than Chueam with the emotional maturity to cope with and process what's about to happen.
Prediction: He's going to lose friends (but not Chueam, she'll stick with him), his academic record is going to be messed up (but not irreparably so, he'll just have to put in extra work to repair it), and he won't have a boyfriend by the end of the series but he'll be okay, he'll be able to walk it off when it's all said and done. He may even start to get his man back (if he wants him, that is).
Ray

Poor Ray, he's a rich brat who clearly has some self-esteem issues and is whipped for his best friend. He's in for a rough ride I fear, especially seeing as he currently deals with his emotions by getting very drunk and/or lashing out.
Sand will probably be good for him (perhaps a little too good for him) in both bringing him down a peg and hopefully giving him the kind of ego boost he actually needs (no Ray you are not a burden but please stop ruining your liver) and I'm really looking forward to the development of their enemies to fwb relationship and all entails.
Unfortunately for Ray he looks like he might be a bit of a bleeding heart romantic on the inside so he's probably going to get his heart broken twice in a very short space of time; once by Mew and his new relationship and then once again by Sand and his refusal to play second fiddle and Ray is only going to realise this when it's a bit too late. Needless to say Ray will probably not be having a fun time for most of this series and of all the character he is tied as most likely to end up in hospital at some point.
Prediction: He's going to lose friends, he's going to fail his degree, he's going to get his heart broken twice and he's probably not going to be okay about it (but hopefully he'll be on the mend by the end of it all). Ray is going to start shit he can't finish and he, more than anyone else, is going to be a victim of his own actions but hopefully he's also going to be the character with the most growth. Sand might be around to scrape him off the floor at the end, but Ray is going to have to work himself out first.
Boston

Boston, what to say about Boston other than currently he seems to be trying to break the record of most men slept with in a single episode (his competition is Brian Kinney from Queer As Folk btw).
There's definitely a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to him and I look forward to unpacking all of his messy laundry when the time comes. He seems to be both incredibly confident with his life choices (good for him) and incredibly insecure about them at the same time which is fascinating and I definitely get the feeling that he has issues with Mew (to the point where I wouldn't really say they're actually friends) because of that insecurity. I genuinely wouldn't be surprised is at some point we get a lot of pent resentment spilling out from Boston about Mew because no one casually mocks someone they're genuinely okay with that many times behind their back.
Prediction: Boston wants but he doesn't quite know what. He is definitely blowing up every single friendship he has in the process of working it out and he's probably going to find himself on his own for a while too, which might actually be what he needs. That being said, if anyone decides to put forward a laurel at the end of the show though, I also think it's going to be him. I also predict no romance, but I also don't think that's what he wants or needs.
Top

Top the Top Tier player who's never not got his object of interest before. He likes casual sex, comes off as a bit of a sleaze (but at least a sleaze who respects boundaries), and is apparently looking for a new challenge now sleeping around has got boring (but not boring enough to not sleep with Boston again).
The problem for Top is that he thinks he's approaching Mew in his world and on his terms where in reality he's already dancing to the tune of Mew's fiddle and it's only going get worse. Mew's world has rules and regulations and things you just don't do (like sleeping with your boyfriend's best friend) and Top is going to find himself caught up in them. What's worse is he's probably going to find out (much too late) that he wants to be caught up in them. Top might be the big man now but he is well and truly fucked.
Prediction: Top isn't going to take his relationship with Mew 100% seriously until he realises he's already completely invested in it and at that point it's going to be too late. He's definitely going to break Mew's heart but Mew is going to break his ten times over and he's not going to recover easily from that. He might have a chance at redemption, but only once he's completely wrecked himself first.
Sand

Sand was just trying to live his life and then he threatened to pee on someone's head and it all went down hill from there.
At the moment he seems like the audience stand in: watching all the chaos and wondering what on earth is wrong with all these privileged brats (semi-affectionate). Like Mew he definitely seems to have himself together in a way that makes me think he'll come away from this pretty okay emotionally (it'll hurt but he's not allergic to emotions, he'll heal). Unlike Mew he definitely doesn't seem to completely together life-wise (i.e monetarily) though, which does make me wonder if our 3 friends (I'm not including Chueam in this, she's not a guilty party) are going to mess that up for him instead.
Prediction: Emotionally he's going to be okay (although he probably has heartbreak in the cards), in every other aspect I think he'll sustain the most damage (and therefore will be entitled to compensation). He feels the most like an innocent bystander and, as such, is definitely going to regret the day he lay eyes on the back of Ray's head. Out of all the characters, he's probably going to be the one due the most apologies all while having done very little to anyone else.
Nick

Wow well Twison changed when he went to uni, wasn't expecting that trajectory at all 😋
In all honesty I feel like I have the least to go on for Nick in terms of predictions (not that I have much to go on for anything else I've been saying). He seems to be completely gone for Boston already (oh Babe he is not a good target to fall head over tits for) and I like the idea that's floating around that Nick is already familiar with Boston somehow based off his reaction to their first meeting.
That being said, I am getting a little bit of a creep vibe from him (maybe it was the invasion of his client's privacy and subsequent masturbation scene that pinged the alarm idk) but I can't help but feel like everything Mew said he'd do if he slept with Top? Yeah Nick would actually do all those things and more. So yeah, while Boston is going to mess him up with their ambiguous relationship, it's only because Nick was pretty messed up in the first place and he'll end up messing Boston up right back with his clingy/obsessive tendencies.
Prediction: Looks like a marshmallow, is actually on fire. Things are going to go wrong for him but only because things were not right in the first place. Possibly the most likely to actually need therapy. I also wouldn't be at all surprised if he's the one to swing the bat that brings it all crashing down, in fact in this crack-pot prediction, I'm expecting him to.
The Friendship Group

Is going to be in tatters by the end of this series, I'm so sorry Chueam. (I mean is this even a prediction or am I just stating the obvious?)
Prediction: Mew and Chueam are probably still going to be friends (they seems like the closest to each other) but no one else is going to be talking. Ray might have Sand (and Chueam if he doesn't fuck up too much) but Boston going to be on his lonesome and so is Top unless they want to throw a pity party together. At the end of the show there will be a tentative reconciliation, but with the knowledge they're never going to be the same, never going to be as close as before.
TLDR + Extra Predictions
Mew: About to have the worst time of his life but he'll make it through, his pain is going to end up being other people's problem.
Ray: Poor, unfortunate soul checking in at heart-break hotel twice in the space of a few months. Most likely to get his man though.
Boston: Needs to figure out what he wants. Probably going to end up completely cut off from everyone but also most likely to extend the peace offering at the end.
Top: Fucked. (Might get a chance at redemption at the end if he's lucky)
Sand: Emotionally fine, financially screwed. Out of everyone he has to most to complain about and he doesn't even go here.
Nick: Most likely to need actual therapy.
Climax: A big argument at the hotel surrounded by the ruins of their hard work
Likely scene: All of them at Yo's bar they used to go to as friends but this time ignoring each others existence.
Likely scene 2: Boston unleashing a load of suppressed resentment towards Mew, possibly to do with their different lifestyles/world views.
Best chance at romance: Chueam
Best chance at staying friends: Chueam and Mew
Key theme: The importance of friendship
Me: happy to be proven right or wrong with these predictions and here for the wild ride regardless.
And that's it! As I said, these predictions are completely pulled from the air around a single watch of episode 1 so they're not at all serious. If I'm right yay, if I'm wrong also yay, I'm just happy to be watching, I just thought it would be fun to test how well I can predict a narrative based on very little information indeed. If anyone wants to share their own crackpot predictions I am more than happy to hear them, let's clown together.

Burn it... so much regret.
You thought I was going to talk about something else...
First I want to address something that's been bothering me for a while:
JK's potato phone/internet connection.

The video quality of his broadcasts has been going downhill steadily and I wanted to take his phone and fling it into the Han River.
But then JK himself addressed the problem. Apparently the video quality was due to his wifi strength. And he fixed it. Yay! But not really.
Now I'll move on to other important things...
Jungkook spent the first 15 minutes beating himself up because he messed up the lyrics to Burn It during the D-Day concert. While critiquing himself harshly, he did an unboxing of his Agust D autographed D-Day album and showed us the photocards he pulled:

HE GOT THE SAME ONES I DID!!! A lot of us probably got those as well... anyway...
Then he watched a recording (a recording of the stream I guess?) of his segment of the concert and just kept shaking his head... poor baby really had a lot of regrets over his mistake.

So after spending almost 50 minutes dwelling on that mostly, he jumps up with the urge to make a middle of the night snack of makguksu and proceeds to walk laps and pace around his kitchen island while holding the phone. So around and around we go...
Then he said he had to put towels in the dryer, but proceeded to grab the vacuum and disappear into the auxiliary kitchen/utility room? I'm confused. He obviously does not have a housekeeper.

JK continued to watch and listen to people who posted their covers of Seven. Though I did finish watching this live, it was over the course of the last few days and I think I will just end my comments about it here.
I started this blog post this past Monday before BigHit dropped the info about Tae's album that evening. The shitstorm that followed was fierce.
I saw it all and I had to take a break from all of that or lose my sense of why I love these guys. So I sat back and let the processes process.
Sometimes you have to do what you gotta do to stay sane.
We often move on from things very quickly here and now that we've entered Tae's solo era I think I will remain in my little bubble of Jimin and Jungkook.

Also I love how you colour and shade everything, how do you do it? Do you think you could record a speed paint or something? What brushes do you use? Canvas size? How do you painstakingly colour within the lines? What device do you use?

First off, thank you so much!
I use Procreate on iPad, which has a handy-dandy little feature where it automatically records everything you do on a canvas, and you can create a time lapse of it. So, yes, I can give a speed paint. :3
(Yes I painted this specifically for this ask.) For comics (and this painting sample), I use a canvas that's 1813X2263. For doodle dumps and other less dedicated projects, I use a 1955X2357 canvas, rotating as I want or need to. If I have a bigger project I want to do, I start with Procreates "Square" canvas default (2048X2048) and crop as I need to as I work.
I've been sticking to this Jingsketch brush set for a while now, though I've modified some to make them more comfortable. As of now the set is free to download. (There appears to be a larger Jingsketch set that costs about $15--I may get that someday lol)

For smudging of shadows and markings, I use the Jingsketch "Jittery Smudge".

As for how I color, the video shows my two most used methods. I do the Momo method when I want it to look a little neater or smoother, and the Midas method for when I don't care how unpolished it looks and just want to show a colored image.
For flats (the solid red seen in the video) I do it on a layer under the lines. I usually put all the flats on one layer, but this time I did their flats on separate layers for demonstration purposes, and merged them once they were both filled.
For Momo, I colored by drawing just inside the lines, erasing what went outside. Then used a Freehand (or equivalent) selection tool to fill in the inside. This is the more time consuming but smooth of the two methods, in my opinion.
For Midas, I specifically drew the outer lines thicker so that I could use the "automatic" (I guess that's "wand" in other programs? I'm not sure) selection to do a quick fill. This method will usually leave the colors with a hard, semi-unappealing edge. (Feathering the selection a little or smudging the flats can probably help with that, but I don't do that very often.)

What I do is select the OUTSIDE of the lines, expand the "Selection Threshold" so that it barely selects JUST outside the lines, then invert the selection so that it filles everything INSIDE the lines. With this method you need to be careful to get all the negative zones as well--I didn't think about demonstrating that in this painting, so here a mini-tut on that.

For the actual colors, I usually do each color on a separate layer set as a "Clipping Mask" to the flats layer. Eyes usually get a layer of their own--The iris colors and pupil (if present) get the Clipping Mask treatment until I'm satisfied with them and merge them into one eye layer.
For shading, I'll fill an entire layer, still Clipped to the flats, with my color of choice, usually set it to the Multiply blend mode, and adjust the opacity as I want. I usually shade the main body separately from the eyes, but try to match the blend mode and opacity settings.
For more high-effort projects, I'll fill a layer with a solid color under the shadow layer but above all the other colors so that I have a better idea of the shapes. Colors like on Midas here can really badly mess with the perception of the shapes and shadow locations. I may also add more Multiply layers if necessary.
And that's my lengthy and extensive look into how I paint~ Keep in mind this is MY process, and I admit I work in a rather quick, dirty, and even somewhat lazy way. So take what you will from this, and go arting as YOU please! ^w^

You’ve probably gotten this question a ton but, do you have any tips or resources on writing a hypnosis induction for the first time? I’m writing a story involving hypnokink and I’ve only been a subject in real life.
Thank you ever so much for asking.
I'll break my advice down into segments for tailoring the best I can. The general advice I have is to listen to long form files by prominent hypnotists within the community and take notes on their styles and flows. I have often noted that one of the best way to learn hypnosis is through experience.
Of my two certification courses the second one, run by Wiseguy, included the invaluable piece of wisdom "The best hypnotic induction is the one that works."
Also check out a set of Zebu cards or download a PDF that contains their write-ups. Zebu Cards are prompts for Ericksonian phrases you can use and explanations of how and why they work. If you need a "how to cheat" sheet then Zebu Cards are an instant win unless you are working with someone literal minded who doesn't deal well with indirect induction methods.
Wiseguy actually did more work training me out of those habits than anything else. Years ago I was fairly fluent in flowery and empty sentiment.
Ericksonian/NLP techniques need not sound as forced as they are in the cards but it's a learning block.
But that's very vague and though I truly consider it the best advice it is less actionable than working out what you wish to write... with that said here is my breakdown:
Select your audience
When writing an induction script you need to know who you are writing for. Is the audience an individual, a group of people or yourself? If it's for an external audience then have you negotiated contents and worked out preferences or are you doing it cold?
How will the script be utilized? Is it to be studied and used as framework for an improvised scene in the moment, is it going to be read by the recipient, recorded? All these little thoughts will change how you handle things. Even a simple comment about the "sound of my voice" will have to switch up based on who is reading and under what context and for what outcome.
Modality
Hypnotic inductions tend to work on different modalities and individuals tend to have ones that they favor more than others. During a pre-talk in a negotiation or a cold session the hypnotist tends to test out preferred modality via susceptibility tests.
It's best when doing something where you do not know for sure what will work to mix in a number of different modalities and request feedback if that is possible for you. Some examples are visual fixations, audio fixations and kinesthetic fixations. I sometimes put emotional fixations in with kinesthetic but that is preference based.
What I mean by this is if you know how a person processes information then present them their induction in that method. For myself I am very feeling and sensing and so being asked to feel sensations of my body is better than utilizing visual imagination or audio cues.
"As you hear the sound of my voice and all distractions fade away you can listen to your breathing and notice it becoming softer and slower, the gentle beat of your heart may follow down into that gentle rhythm" is a slightly overt version of a line from an audio script.
"And you'll see that you're already starting to drift down. Can you picture it. You laying down as your slack arms sink down, are your eyelids fluttering, I wonder? It's okay if they are, because you can still watch as you sink deeper even with your eyes resting closed" for visual.
"With every moment that passes you drift more and it feels so good to just let go and relax deeper now. Feeling your lungs empty of air and noticing perhaps how relaxing that is. Do you feel relaxation as a tingling in your head or a lightness in your skin? Either way it feels so good to just drop deeper and so you can let go even more for me now." for kinesthetic.
Direct/Indirect
As you may see I usually lean more indirect than direct in my inductions. I have been taught by some incredible partners how to code switch into direct for dramatic effect. They reward me so very well with whimpers and delight, I feel I must perfect the technique for them.
A mix is always good but an induction, particularly when rapport and intent are not carrying you, should always lean in on your strong suit. Only you will know your style. Play around in the space, see what you can find.
The Induction Starts With Negotiation
This one is a bit obvious but every hypnosis session begins before the hypnotee agrees to begin. If you post a hypnotic audio on YouTube then the summary and preamble are not just there to list the contents they are there to set expectation.
Do not misunderstand and believe that mind control happens before consent. What I mean is that expectation is an active part of the induction.
This can be in carrying confidence of tone "This file will use my voice to draw you into an impossibly deep trance" is more evocative than "I want to try and do some test inductions and want anyone who listens to experience a deep trance" while having much of the same information.
Plus the first example has an indirect suggestion that ties the sound of my voice to the action of you being drawn into trance. Just like the sentence I'm typing right now is a promise that you'd fall under my spell if I were to will it so.
Tone and expectation are important tools and being able to embody the role and work towards your goal at all times is important. Don't be a jerk about it, just be confident. Knowing you will succeed and convincing someone else you can and will do it makes it so. Hypnosis tends to be a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Wrap safety in
In the same vein, I would always recommend to do the old "if anything comes up that requires you to exit this scene you can and will handle it knowing the script/file/opportunity will be waiting for you" and such. Hypnosis is a bond of trust between consenting individuals and a hypnotist must do their best to protect their hypnotee while they are entrusted to them as a hypnotee must be responsible with the practice of hypnosis so a hypnotist can trust the process with them.
If it's 1-on-1 then ask for limits, try to find out what will make it a pleasant experience, make your own requests if there are areas you want to explore.

okay i wanted to ask, because i see you writing such long fics but i can barely pull myself together to write this bomb-ass 20k word fic, how do approach a fic you know is going to be a long one in a way that you don't feel intimidated by it, or do you still get intimidated by it and just try and push through it?
okay so first off, thank you so much for sending me this ask 😭 you literally forced me to go through my writing process and caused me to make a huge breakthrough with one of my stories alfkgh
anyways, i'll try to be as thorough and clear as i can be with my process, i hope this helps! (but also im so sorry once i started i couldn't stop)
i think my process can be best described with three fics; Only You, Darling (40k), Killer Instinct (37K), and Memories We Made (unfinished but estimated to be over 30k.). With each story, I knew that they were going to be long, but mostly because I went in with the approach that it has to be long in order for the story to be executed right; characters have to be written thoroughly, and there are certain scenes that need to be written for the plot/character to progress-- like, if it's not written in, the story could lose those small details that make the fic feel more... alive, if that makes sense?
The most important part is making an outline! I know that's probably obvious, but outlines can seriously vary; like with OYD and MWM, I have a whole doc dedicated to the fic. I'm gonna show you what a bit of my OYD planning looks like, please don't point out how genuinely unhinged it is 😭😭😭 (so.. spoilers for OYD + fun fact it was gonna be Sunghoon instead of Jaemin in the story originally hehe)

This is an example of what my outlines can look like; but, it only gets like this as i write-- the first pic is my outline filled with things i added as i wrote OYD such as characteristics/important notes/things i wanna edit, and the second pic is what i started out with.
the first thing i do is brainstorm the bare basics of the plot; what kind of story is it, and what do i want to happen in it? you can see that i separated the story into the key plot points/arcs; and within each one, i also put how i wanted them to begin and end. (the numbers are the wc for each arc alskhg)
the hard part comes in when you're filling these arcs/key points in. because now the big question is, how do you get there? for example, during the first act of OYD, i wanted to establish beomjun's relationship with the mc, and end it off by having the two work together. but in order to do that, i decided to include scenes that showed yeonjun's relationship with the mc, and then beomgyu's relationship with her. now that i had the foundation, i allowed the two to interact; that let me establish beomjun's relationship with each other, and let them realize they had a common goal.
last, you add a catalyst (a character, a situation, etc.) that can get you to your end goal; the catalyst being jaemin, which brought the two to work together out of jealousy-- and that's how i was able to fill in that key point.
then i just repeated that process for all arcs! add scenes that elaborate on key points, then add a catalyst that can take you to the end!
another thing i do when plotting for my stories is record myself brainstorming! i let myself ramble and talk about the plot out loud, and that's usually how i run into plot holes/issues. i kinda let myself figure it out in real time, and once i've figured the plot out, i listen back to it and write it down. (i have voice recordings for OYD and MWM. MWM is 48 mins, if that gives you a gist of what i mean by like... brainstorming. and half of it is straight up fucking nonsense. just let out ideas, details about the characters, scenes you'd like to write, anything. it lets you become more familiar and comfortable with your story, if that even makes sense.)
also! whenever i'm writing but get tired and decide to take a break, i add a quick want to add note at the bottom; that's what the weird little spiel up there in the second pic is. it's where i wrote down the ending scene because i had a super specific idea of what i wanted and how i wanted it to happen. if you get any scene ideas like that for your fic, write them down!! there's a chance that you might forget about it/write it differently if you don't; plus, it could even help you add things in that could make the transition into the scene super smooth.
OYD was honestly a bit intimidating for me when i wrote it, because i knew that it had to be extremely detailed and long. that's why i made sure to properly plan things out, that way so i didn't forget anything that could skew the execution. but one of the biggest tips is that you should brainstorm scenes you want to add in each key point, that way you don't feel as intimidated when writing-- because now you have a guide, yk? I'd love to show how my MWM outline looks like, but the fic isn't even out yet 😭 but it's literally a scene-by-scene outline of how i want the story to go! now all i have to do is flesh out the said scenes :)
then there's fics like killer instinct. i went into that with pure vibes, no outline, no planning; more of a mental outline, if anything. so if you find the idea of the whole written outline + scene & key points boring/not for you, i'd still suggest to get the bare basics down; but what i did with killer instinct was that i brainstormed as i went, and added small notes to keep track of important things so i wouldn't screw with continuity-- age and time is pretty important in that story, and i kid you not this is the only thing i had for killer instinct outline wise (bc im not counting my doc of mma notes.)

but for killer instinct, i kinda winged it; i knew what the general plot was, but allowed myself to have fun on how to get there. the only thing i will say though, is that with every scene, you should try to plan out the next one-- like, intro to killer instinct is introducing taegyu, then i'll introduce the mc. then i'll introduce the world and background. and now that i have a foundation, i'll add extra scenes, then a catalyst! this leads into the main conflict, then y'know the rest. but instead of planning it out bit by bit, i kinda let myself go with the flow...? it also let me be a lot less intimidated by the fact that I knew the story would have to be long.
as for the story i had a big breakthrough with, i'm definitely a bit intimidated by it! i know it has to be intricate and emotional and intense, so in order to help with that, i've made playlists to get me in the correct mood, watch shows, read other fics, anything to help me get comfortable with the genre and spark inspiration. I'm currently winging it as well.... but have three key points im sticking to-- it's gonna sound a bit confusing and vague but it's like... add foundation + the male lead is introduced -> background is given to let ppl know motivations and stuff -> final scene. and whenever i run into an issue, i brainstorm and try to get to the root of why im stuck. like, is it plot, the character, or the scene? in this case it was all three so. pray for me.
anyways. i hope this helped and im so sorry if it didn't 😭😭😭 because then that just means u read this painfully messy explanation for nothing. but when writing long fics, pleeeaseee make sure to take your time with it-- if nothing's working, give it time and don't force yourself to write whatever! (mwm has been in my wip for a solid like. year..? but this is a rare case plus im insane)
and if your word count ends up surpassing/being under than what you originally expected, don't panic! (killer instinct was estimated at 20-25k. so.) sometimes certain scenes just aren't necessary, and other times, you find that you may need to elaborate more in order to make things work.

in the spirit of the season (mutuals posting about their encanto aus) i wanted to post about mine bc i love them and am not active enough on here and wanna change that bc sharing my stuff is fun! so without further ado here they are lol
next gen au
pretty self explanatory. the story outlines what all the madrigals (mostly the grandkids) are up to in the years following the movie. mirabel gradually takes on more of a leadership role as time passes and eventually becomes the matriarch after alma's death and with enough time to prepare for the role. under her leadership, the madrigals are less shoehorned into roles and are encouraged to express themselves more freely, but being the leader still isn't easy and things still aren't perfect - while alma is still alive, mirabel often finds herself going to her for advice and repairing their bond further in the process. she also gets a gf (lorena), i've been playing around with the idea of her being an outsider that finds her way into the encanto but i would have to flesh that plot out a little more before i make it official. dolores eventually marries mariano, but only on her terms - she realizes quickly after the movie that though she loves mariano, she wants to take things slow, and mariano is more than happy to respect that. he puts in a lot of effort to understand how her gift works and help her out with it whenever he can, and for once, she feels like the one being heard. isabela, now free of her old role as the golden child, begins to let her more adventurous side out, exploring the outskirts and forests of the encanto to observe the plant life. she hones her gift and is able to bring even more exotic plant species to the encanto and starts up a very successful garden. she also ends up marrying two village women - lilli and rosa - and the three of them adopt a daughter, jacinda, together and spoil her rotten. lilli runs a flower shop and isa helps her out immensely with this. luisa finally learns to take it easy, prioritizing rest and relaxation after so many years of working hard to serve the community - though she definitely still loves to lift and hang out with the donkeys in her spare time bc old habits die hard. she probably takes over the care and raising of the donkeys as a whole bc they love her. she marries a village woman, inés, and they adopt two daughters, valentina and ciela. camilo is actually the first grandkid to settle down - he marries his childhood best friend and love of his life marco, and the two of them have six children together - amelia, imelda, brunito, ignacio, felipe, and sofia. they have their hands quite full with fatherhood but on top of that marco works as a teacher at the encanto's school while camilo continues to volunteer in the community, eventually becoming the drama director and soccer coach for the school. antonio grows up and starts his own animal sanctuary in the encanto that becomes wildly successful. he enlists dolores' help to scope out any injured or sick animals in the forests and nurses them back to health at the sanctuary, and he often accompanies isa on her trips to the forest to keep taxonomy records of the encanto's diverse wildlife. he never had much of an interest in romance - though plenty of people swoon over his kindness to the animals - but he is very fulfilled nonetheless and couldn't be happier helping take care of his animal friends. i have a more detailed timeline and bios for the kids that i'll be posting eventually but this is the main rundown of where the grandkids are at years down the line!
swap
essentially follows the plot of the movie but the sides of the family swap roles. instead of alma, pedro is the head of the family. pepa has the gift of healing food and felix is her clumsy husband, camilo is the golden child with the wonderful floral gift, dolores is the middle child with the gift of super strength, and antonio is the baby of his side of the family, cursed to a giftless existence (and being the main character of the storyline). on the other side of the family, julieta's emotions control the weather while agustin keeps her calm, luisa is the eldest with the ability to hear a pin drop from miles away, isabela is the mischievous shapeshifting middle child, and mirabel is the youngest member of the family and gains the ability to speak with animals. bruno is still bruno.  did i make this au entirely to put camilo in pretty pink outfits and make him a mean annoying gay? maybe.
pirates
the warm color family is a fearsome and renowned pirate crew descended from the notorious husband-wife pirate duo alma and pedro madrigal (the latter is dead and the former has long since retired), with pepa as the captain and felix as the first mate. pepa was estranged from her mother and siblings in her youth as she attempted to learn more about her parents' past, and she soon set out on her own to live the pirate life that alma tried so hard to keep her children out of. in the meantime, julieta and her family form their own rival crew and set sail in search of pepa to take their vengeance. bruno tries his best to be a good mama's boy and stay home, but he is soon taken hostage by the fearless captain hernando, a legendary pirate who has feuded with both madrigal sisters and their crews for a while now. he grows rather fond of his bargaining chip over time and bruno eventually becomes the captain's lover and first mate. when the sisters finally put aside their squabbles and unite to save their brother from their enemy's clutches, it's a very awkward family reunion. also everyone has their gifts and uses them to help their crew in one way or another. eventually when the two sides of the family unite, the grandkids take up a ship of their own with mirabel as the new captain. 
roommates
marco and camilo are college roommates with luca and alberto. that's literally it no linear plot just vibes. luca is a first year astronomy student, alberto is a second year student and undeclared, marco and camilo are third years and marco is majoring in education while being on the soccer team and camilo is majoring in theatre (🤢). alberto and camilo despise each other but also camilo is lowkey crushing. camilo and marco are already dating and alberto and luca are also definitely together but heavily in denial about it. they fight over dishes being left in the sink and decorate their dorm all cute
the fall 
wrote a ten chapter fic about this one so read that if you wanna know what it entails but tl;dr au where the family never recovers after the fall of casita and they go their separate ways, with dolores camilo and isa fully moving out, their whereabouts unknown - until, ten years later, mirabel takes it upon herself to track them down, reunite the family once and for all, and save the miracle for real this time. will she succeed? what have the runaways all been up to over these past ten years? read it and find out i'm not telling you! also this fic/au is quite old compared to the others so no marco 😔 fly high king 
mamma mia 
the silliest dumbest most self indulgent au ever. camilo centric of course. the storyline is literally just mamma mia but with camilo. he has twin daughters and one of them (ima) is getting married and wants to invite her other biological father to the wedding - the only problem is she doesn't know who that is, and if camilo's old diary describing all his old hookups in detail is to be believed,  there's three possibilities - marco osma, dante velazquez, and nicolas sorelli (the latter two are ocs, i'll probably post their bios at some point lol also nicolas is trans so he's definitely not the other dad but he's stealth so he's just going along for the ride). she invites all three of them to her wedding and they reunite with camilo for the first time in twenty years. drama ensues. camilo marries marco at the end regardless of if he's the dad or not (but he probably is - they never find out for sure). isa is tanya (so lilli is pepper ofc) and mirabel is rosie (except she doesn't end up with one of the dads at the end bc she actually respects herself). ima's fiancées identity is yet to be determined bc i don't have a partner oc for her but i do know she's a lesbian so. gay greek weddings! camilo in overalls! love wins!
runaway camilo 
this one is a rewrite of the canon plot to a degree but not really enough to be considered a full on au. plays with the scrapped concept of camilo looking completely different after the fall of casita that didn't make it into the final movie, which is like one of my favorite concepts ever especially because of how easily it plays into trans camilo. in this rewrite, camilo has basically used his gift to masculinize himself perpetually since his ceremony, which all but cures his dysphoria - that is, until casita falls, he loses the gift he had become dependent on, and it all blows up in his face. he's unrecognizable when the dust clears, and rather than be seen in such a state, he flees the scene and goes missing just around the same time as mirabel. the family is split as pepa and felix go looking for their son while the cool color family goes looking for mirabel, and both are found within a few days - camilo in the depths of the forest, skin scraped and clothes ragged from running into the forest with reckless abandon, practically digging his own grave and ready to give up for good. when he's found, it takes a LONG time for him to allow anyone to see him, much less recover from the trauma. the rewrite basically involves these events and the aftermath. luckily camilo does get his gift back when casita is rebuilt but the scars are forever and he probably still has nightmares about losing his gift well into adulthood and has to learn to become comfortable going without his gift for short bouts of time in order to get more comfortable lest the worst case scenario happens again! more or less a transmilo angst fest add-on to the main plot of the movie. mimi needs a hug 💔

Misc notes from the Maghni AI February Q&A Stream:
Aurum demo is going to be delayed by a few weeks, currently expected for the beginning of March.
Everything else should be on schedule.
Hype content will be posted around the end of February regardless of Aurum's demo being delayed! (Something fun, Oliver related, is coming before the end of this month. Assumedly - not mentioned, this is me saying this - his second English demo, since Austin's announcements match the schedule.)
Languages development has been going well on Natalia's part.
Audine recently finished her English recordings, development for her voicebank starts soon.
Crossy has been drawing a lot - for the upcoming February content and for the official character art, which is a lot of work since they want it to turn out perfect.
GABRIEL and GLASSIA's voice actors have been recording. GLASSIA's voice recordings are experiencing some delays because their voice actress wasn't satisfied with them, but she's a fast recorder according to Natalia.
GLASSIA is Brazilian.
Natalia and Austin are excited about the development of voice colors, and Austin is also excited about the engine themes. Barham is excited about the age and gender parameters (which are different!) though those won't be available on release. Caleb is most excited about phoneme editing but also mentions that some very powerful voices are coming. (I have never used VOCALOID so I didn't understand what Crossy was talking about o( ̄┰ ̄*)ゞ something "V1 pitch bends better than V5")
The vocabulary they use around the program is inspired by a will to "paint the vocals". This is mentioned in response to someone asking if you can draw the pitch bends, to which the answer is yes.
They're putting a big focus on accessibility and beginner-friendliness, as they expect Maghni AI to be a first entry-point to vocal synth for many users due to the many languages it includes.
I'm not sure what exactly this is about, and it's mostly hypotheticals but they're enthusiastic about ideas adjacent to lyp-syncing. And feedings your voicebank little raspberries. For what it's worth
The two test libraries should have the exact same quality as other full libraries, but they will be limited in what they can do. (Like they won't have as many voice colors, their range might not be as great, they're just meant to be for getting a feel of the program.)
Maghni AI is meant to be very third-party friendly.
"Huge French vocal synth scene" mention!!!! (the girl taking these notes is French)
"Vocal A" is pretty much finished with his recordings.
Even if they create official stories with their characters, Vocatone's characters are up to your personal interpretation. (If Oliver is a silly goofy child to you, that's cool, if Oliver is very serious and broody to you, that's cool too.)
Next stream should be at the end of next month.
Growl parameter is an exciting prospect but probably not anytime soon. That being said, one of the voicebanks they're working on will have a voice color that's pure growl.
They were asked about "if they could have any UTAU for Maghni AI". I've been having a difficult time processing names but I'll do my best... Natalia: Momo Momone, Ruko, Ritsu - there are also voicebanks that aren't as big but are phenomenal, like Aiko Kikyuune - later mention: Yufu Sekka, Sayu Yurika. Barham: isn't familiar with UTAU. Austin: I didn't catch the name, sorry, but if I'm understanding well, two voicebanks he worked on? Caleb: Kakoi Nizimine. Crossy: Celeste? Then one I didn't catch, then Muyuka. Someone in the chat: Adachi Rei (which Natalia thinks would be phenomenal). Natalia keeps mentioning UTAUs so I'm giving up OTL

While the catastrophe has befallen Boro-Borosa, they still don't know about it on Nevarro. But they also have to deal with small problems until something happens here too.

Cara replayed the recording for the third time and smiled. She was sitting alone in the office, she had sent Mythrol away when the encrypted message arrived. She wanted to check it first before anyone else saw it. As a result, no one had seen the tears of joy that welled up in her eyes when she first saw it. Cara was very happy for Din and Liara. And this child was so lucky that they had found her. A child's laughter made Cara look out into the street. Since the Mandalorians had arrived, the streets of the city had become even livelier. At first, the inhabitants of Nevarro had watched the new arrivals with suspicion; there had been a lot of damage and casualties last time.
Now the fighters were back, but they no longer seemed as dangerous as they all remembered. Probably also because they were no longer hiding and showing their faces. It also helped that the children had no reservations about each other and treated each other normally.
As a result, there were soon twice as many children in the school and just as many rushing through the streets and getting up to mischief.
Yesterday they had a lot of work to do when they opened the cages with the monkeys at the market and then they ran away. It took hours to catch them all again. Another laugh rang out and a horde of children ran past.
"Are they plotting again?"
Cara flinched, startled, as Sona stood in the doorway and her hand went to her gun. She hadn't noticed the woman. Sona raised her hands reassuringly, annoyed. Seeing Cara smile after all these weeks was progress. So was the fact that she was working again and yet every shock sent fear through the young woman's limbs and made her freeze.
"I'm sorry," Sona apologized and Cara shook her head. There was another alarm in the room and she tried to calm down. She was safe.
Cara took a deep breath, then nodded to Sona.
"I'll probably be busy again soon!" Cara joked, before asking Sona to join her. She pointed to the holoscreen and played the message. Now Sona realized why Cara had smiled, she felt the same way. "Din has finally found his family again and started a new one in the process! It's so nice that we Mandalorians are growing again!"
The news that the Hidden Ones would soon be making their way to Nevarro made Sona happy. And she hoped that everything would be peaceful, they had fought each other too often in the past. Cara stood up and reached for the hologram stick.
"Then I'll show Greef and the others the good news!"
Sona shook her head vehemently and stopped Cara. She stood in her way.
"No!"
Cara frowned. Sona sighed.
"There is someone I no longer trust. So please keep this information secret, I'm afraid Bo-Katan will know immediately!"
Cara looked at Sona in astonishment and she suddenly looked very tired.
"I just hope I'm wrong. I don't want to voice my suspicions either, so that you can continue to have a clear view of things!"
Cara nodded in understanding and turned away. In the next room, she locked the flash drive in the safe. A brief sting on her temple made her lean her head against the wall. The memory of the torture and this situation confused her. A reassuring, warm hand touched her on the shoulder. Sona knew about everything, she had told her, and the weaponsmith had just listened at first, before talking to Cara and helping her out of the clutches of nightmares.
"Here you go and I've put some sweets in your bag," said the shopkeeper, winking and handing Ziv the purchases. He thanked her and held the bag close to him.
"And give my best wishes to your mom!"
Ziv nodded and said goodbye. He had picked up the things he had ordered after school had finished, as his mother didn't get home from work until late. Ziv meandered through the hustle and bustle with his heavy school bag on his back and his shopping. He noticed two of his classmates who had just reached home and waved to him. The delicious smell from one of the cooking areas caught his nose and Ziv hurried, as he was hungry. Once home, he stowed away the groceries and took his food out of the fridge to warm it up. He threw his school things into his room and devoured his meal. He had the radio on in the background. When it was so quiet, he felt uncomfortable, but he would never tell his mom that. It had been difficult for her to go back to work, but it had to be done, the support from his former employer after his father's death had run out. Now his mom was looking after the old people who couldn't afford the droids. It was also no problem to take his little sister Izy with him. So Ziv spent most of his time alone at home, but conscientiously did various chores at home or homework so that his mom could rest a little after her work and she didn't have to worry. Above all, Cara had refrained from telling her about the monkeys. Since the Mandalorians had come back, with all the children, he had made new friends. Every now and then they did a few things that weren't allowed.
Like freeing the monkeys from their cages. It was great fun at first, but then they caused more and more chaos and one of them escaped to the Anzellans' workshop. The little creatures made a louder racket than all the monkeys put together.
Cara had all the culprits line up and clean up. Ziv's job was to help the Anzellans and apologize to them. They were a little vindictive and he now had a few more afternoons to show up there to work off the damage. Although, it wasn't that bad there. There was a lot to discover in their collection. Ziv sighed and picked up his backpack to do his homework.
They hadn't had much to do, so he didn't think twice and ran outside. He wanted to go to the tunnel, where he had lost his Mandalorian necklace a few days ago, which he had been given by Din when he had been rescued by him. When the Mandos came back and reported on how Din and Liara were doing and what they had already experienced on their journey, he had been pleased to hear from them again. He was also glad to hear that they would be back here soon, once they had finished their search for Din's family. Ziv scurried down one of the side streets that led to the old entrance. You weren't supposed to go down there anymore, there had been cave-ins from a few eruptions of the volcano, but Ziv knew where to go and it was safe.
He walked down the steps, the dusty, dirty smell greeted him. His flashlight lit the way for him and after a few minutes it did indeed glitter in the light. Ziv whooped and picked up the chain. The ribbon was torn, but the pendant was still on it. He put it in his pocket and was about to go back when he heard voices. They were coming from the old smithy. Curiosity got the better of him and the boy crept towards the vault.
"... he wants to go to Aq Vetina and build the new home there..."
It was the voice of Paz, the great Mando, Ziv found him a little terrifying. He and Sona had come back with Cara, they hadn't been well for a while afterwards. Perhaps also because Ezer hadn't survived. There were several days of mourning for the young bounty hunter. Ziv wondered who Paz was talking to, he understood immediately that it was about Din as the place had been mentioned a few times by the other Mandos. A female voice replied.
"This is quite enough for me. I know where this place is. That's where I killed his parents and that's where his last hour will have come. Even if I have to wait many more rotations for them there, it will be a joyful wait!"
Ziv was shocked by the malice in his voice. He absolutely had to get to Cara and tell her about it. Slowly he walked backwards, caught on a beam and fell backwards. It was loud enough to alert Paz. He came rushing out and saw the boy struggling to his feet and staring at the man with wide eyes.
"You know what you have to do!" the woman's voice sounded from the holotransmission and Paz said yes. Ziv swallowed, then ran off, and from the sounds of it, Paz did too. The smell of sulphur increased and Ziv was aware he was running in the wrong direction, but there was another turn and he had to catch it. Unfortunately, his flashlight was flickering, the energy was fading and he would miss the path. He heard Paz shouting threats and, despite the warmth, he felt freezing cold. Ziv glanced backwards, noticing the glow from Paz's torch. When he turned back around, Ziv's eyes widened in shock, but he couldn't stop. There was a gaping hole in front of him, and he jerked his arms, hoping to catch his weight and fall backwards. But it was in vain, his body fell and Ziv screamed until he hit the ground. A wave of pain seized the boy and immediately sent him into a deep unconsciousness. Paz heard the impact, stopped at the edge and glanced down the few meters. The boy was lying next to some rocks, open wounds visible. That solved the problem, he thought and turned away.
Yazmin put the sleeping Izy in her bed and left the nursery. She was just as tired herself. In the kitchen, she noticed the bag of fruit bears and smiled. Ziv had received another present. She took a few and snacked on them. The sweetness was good for her now. When she had entered the apartment, everything had been dark and she assumed that Ziv was already asleep. She decided to leave the boy alone and went to bed too. Tomorrow was her day off and she would cook him his favorite meal.
The radio was on, scrambled eggs and bacon were sizzling in the pan and Izy was toddling around barefoot. Yazmin hummed along to the song, looked at her watch and sighed.
"Ziv, honey!"
After she had set the table, there was still no sound from Ziv's room. Yazmin knocked on his door, getting a little angry now.
"Get up!"
The murmur that usually followed failed to materialize and she opened the door.
"You're coming to..."
A few clothes were scattered around, but the bed was untouched. Yazmin was confused and ran to the bathroom, but it was empty too. Izy followed her mom laughing, she hadn't understood the seriousness of the situation. There was a rucksack in the kitchen, so Ziv hadn't left for school early. Yazmin ran her fingers nervously through her hair, then turned off the stove, grabbed Izy and knocked on the neighbor's door. She hadn't seen him since yesterday either. The neighbor took Izy from her, recognizing her mother's helplessness.
"I'll look after the little one. Go to Cara and find him!"
Yazmin nodded and ran off.
Cara was discussing today's appointments with Mythrol and Kadin, a new member of Nevarro's security staff, when a woman came rushing in, completely upset.
"Yazmin?"
"Ziv's gone!"
She reported everything, presumably that he had disappeared yesterday and she hadn't noticed.
"I wish I'd looked in on him again!" she reproached herself and sank into a visitor's chair. Cara shook her head.
"You couldn't have known. We'll go to the school now and ask everyone there if they know anything!"
Yazmin nodded and the women set off.
"Maybe the Anzellans didn't let him go yesterday. I wouldn't be surprised. We'd best go and check there now!"
Yazmin frowned irritably and stopped.
"Why Anzellans?"
Cara paused and sighed.
"He didn't tell you anything?"
Yazmin shook her head. Cara told her about the incident with the monkeys and Yazmin closed her eyes. When she looked at Cara again, she noticed how horrified her mother was.
"I get paid well, but I hardly ever get to see my big boy. And the fact that he hides this from me..."
Cara ran her hand along Yazmin's arm as they were about to reach the workshop.
"At that age, you're always keeping secrets from your parents!"
She winked at Yazmin and she actually grinned as she thought about the past.
The little creatures were chattering loudly and Cara needed some time, she understood the language, but too much at once was borderline. She knelt in front of the entrance and nodded a few times. Yazmin was crouched beside her, but she had gotten out after the first few words and was just hoping the Anzellans could help them. Cara sat up and waved into the workshop before the door closed.
"He was supposed to show up today, they don't know where he is. If we find him, they'll insist he works off his debt!"
The women got up and walked on to the school. Lessons were already in progress there and Caz was reluctant to be disturbed. Cara explained the situation, pointing to Yazmin, who was pacing back and forth outside the window. The droid interrupted the lesson and they asked the children if they knew anything. But they all said no. Two said the last time they had seen him was when he was leaving the market on his way home. That didn't help Cara, since the shopping and his rucksack were at home, he must have left the apartment again afterwards.
Cara took Yazmin back to her office. She was still beside herself with worry. Cara informed Greef that they had a missing person case. Shortly afterwards, he appeared with several bounty hunters from the guild.
"We're going on a search now. Don't worry, we'll find him!"
Yazmin thanked them all and looked after them as they disappeared into the alleyways. Two of them wanted to search everything with their ships from above, on and far behind the lava fields.
Over the course of the day, more and more people came to hear about Ziv's disappearance. Yazmin was overwhelmed by the willingness to help and began to cry. She had been holding back the tears the whole time, but as time passed and they didn't find him despite the many helpers, her nerves were frayed. Sona, who had brought over some food, comforted the worried mother. She gave her hope, but the feedback was always negative.
"He can't just disappear into thin air!"
Cara secretly agreed with her, but there were plenty of places in and around the city to hide or find herself in a helpless situation. The day was drawing to a close and Cara sent Yazmin to her apartment, above the office, so she could get some rest. Izy was in good hands with her neighbor, who had immediately agreed to continue looking after the girl. Cara took turns with Kadin during the night, asking for situation reports from the searchers. A team would continue to search the tunnels in the morning, but it was not entirely safe due to the danger of collapse in some places.
Dark shadows had settled under Yazmin's eyes. Her sleep had been restless and now she hoped the coffee would give her a boost. Cara yawned furtively behind her arm before biting hungrily into a chocolate roll that Greef had brought them with a few other goodies. His bounty hunters were ready to help again today. There was a knock and a woman entered with a boy. Gry, one of the Mandalorian women, and her son Rufo, whose red hair looked almost more intense than his mother's. Cara knew Rufo well, he had a lot of nonsense in his head and was the one who had freed the monkeys. But he too would have to serve his sentence for a few more hours with the merchant.
"He has something to tell you!"
Rufo looked at those present, somewhat unsettled, while Gry put his hands on his shoulders to encourage him.
"Is it that bad?" Cara asked and Rufo shook his head. He swallowed.
"Did you find his necklace?"
Cara looked at Yazmin, who was now sitting upright and staring at Rufo. Cara answered in the negative.
"He lost it the other day when we were in the tunnel..."
Yazmin gasped, Gry raised his hand.
"I was down there with him, there was something in one of the quarters that once belonged to us. They didn't leave the secure area! Rufo confessed to me this morning that they were still there, otherwise I would have informed you yesterday!"
Rufo nodded.
"He noticed upstairs that the chain was gone. But as it was already time to go home, he wanted to look for it another time. But we only went to the old quarters, honestly!"
Sona shone her light over the dusty floor. Behind her, Paz moved around, looking into every niche they knew. The weaponsmith had immediately offered to search her old home. A strange feeling had accompanied her since they had entered the tunnels, she just couldn't grasp it. At the former smithy, she paused and noticed the many footprints. A search party had already been here, but had turned back as one of the paths was impassable. But there was another one and they were now walking along it. They kept calling for Ziv's name, but got no answer.
"If he was hiding here, he would have realized by now that we were looking for him," Paz grumbled and Sona noticed how the giant slowed down. She turned to him, shone a light in his face and blinked.
"Maybe something's happened to him!"
She noticed the flicker in Paz's eyes, but suppressed it. The two of them continued to search, the smell of sulphur was very intense and it was getting warmer. Paz shone his torch along the corridor, pointed at the rubble and tore at the floor.
"This is as far as it goes!"
Sona nodded, but she didn't turn back. She sensed that Paz was desperate to leave this place and the uneasy feeling intensified. When she sat down in front of the hole and shone her light into it, she froze. Sona jumped up and pushed the astonished Paz against the wall. She screamed at him, it echoed off the wall.
"You son of a bitch. What did Bo-Katan promise you?"
Paz swallowed and pointed to his temple, the same scar as Cara's. Sona shook her head, then left him and climbed down to Ziv. When she touched the child, she couldn't believe it, but she felt a pulse beat and oxygen escaped from his mouth. She immediately relayed the location via the communicator and looked up at Paz, who was giving her light. His hand trembled and he closed his eyes. Hopefully he would soon be punished for this.
Ziv was already in one of the treatment rooms when Yazmin arrived at the medical center with Cara. She caught sight of Sona. The boy's blood was on her hands and clothes. Yazmin let out a scream and collapsed. Cara tried to hold her mother down, but it was only with Greef's help that they managed to maneuver her onto a bench in the waiting area.
"He was alive and I'm sure they'll be able to help him!" Sona tried to reassure her, but realized that she would further unsettle her mother in that state. She immediately left the center to clean up and change in her accommodation. Paz wanted to follow her, but Sona shook her head.
"Don't you dare leave here. You will speak to the Creator and hope the boy survives!" she hissed at him. Paz glared after her, then sat down in one of the rows of chairs to wait like the others.
Flora looked anxiously at the monitor, which showed them the boy's data. When the door opened and the Twi'lek entered, she handed the pad to the doctor.
"He must be operated on immediately. I will inform the relatives! Let Doctor Gago know and I'll follow!"
Flora nodded and set to work.
Yazmin saw a doctor coming towards her and she began to tremble. Cara squeezed her hand and stood by her.
"I am Doctor Loris. I'm going to operate on your son with my colleague. He has many fractures, but we will leave them untreated at first. His internal injuries are very serious and have priority!"
Yazmin swallowed and nodded, she had understood the doctor. He smiled encouragingly at her and then hurried into the operating theater.
It took a long time, new blood reserves were requested again and again, but they were able to stabilize the child. "He seems to be a bit of a fighter, lying somewhere for so long with these injuries alone..." said Gago, looking after the patient, who was now being taken to the intensive care unit.
"Let's hope he survives the next 24 hours and then we can repair the fractures. Only then will I be persuaded to have a drink of joy!" Loris tried to put the brakes on his colleague. But he also secretly hoped that the boy would recover. Hopefully his head hadn't sustained any damage...
"I'll talk to the mother and let her see him!"
Gago nodded and the two of them left the operating theater.
Yazmin sat next to her child's bed, cables and tubes everywhere. A machine was helping him to breathe. The doctor had explained to her that they had put him in an induced coma while they had not yet operated on him because of the fractures in his leg and arms.
"That way he is completely pain-free and his body can recover. He needs all the strength he can get!"
The wire mesh on his head was supposed to measure brain waves and pressure; his brain was swollen from the impact. So far, everything was still fine and he was given medication to help him lose weight. Despite the bruises and abrasions, his face was pale and Yazmin gently ran her trembling fingers over his skin. Her eyes watered again.
"I'm here, my darling, everything is going to be all right now!"

Currently reading: I finally got through the approval process to get the password for the fan translations of Dinghai Fusheng Records, so I've been reading that! I'm only a few chapters in but so far it's very funny and entertaining. I'm also learning a ton about Chinese history and cultural references from the translator's notes and further googling (it's set in a very specific year/time period coinciding some real historical events and figures).
My to-read/technically-in-progress pile is massive beyond belief though, including the MDZS re-read I've been meaning to do, so we're not even going to talk about that...
Currently working on: uuuh if we're counting totally unrelated-to-fandom things, I'm in the process of redoing my desk setup! I made a desk a few years ago that's just a butcher block countertop with legs, but decided to upgrade to a sit-stand desk. I work from home so I'm at my desk pretty much all day and I'm getting to the age where things like 'ergonomics' sound like they might actually be a good idea to do...
I refinished the butcher block top (sanding and staining is finished and it's currently in the garage drying before the first coat of gel urethane! Mmmmm, VOCs). Technically it'll be dry for light use by Wednesday, but I'll be giving the stain/topcoat some extra drying time before putting the legs on and using it, probably next weekend. I also got a dual monitor mount so I can get rid of my monitor stands, so I'm excited about that too, there will be so much desk space and monitor height adjustments going on over here!
Uh in terms of actually fandom related things... I actually signed up for some art classes so after 1-3 years of practice you unfortunate souls might be getting inundated with questionable fanart if I can get over my crippling fear of publicly posting anything I've made!
Current obsession: my late-stage Jiang Cheng Derangement Syndrome symptoms have not abated in the slightest

hi jojo, i wanted to ask how you corrupt/datamosh art to get genuine glitches … i think the way computers rip apart jpegs or pngs is both beautiful and gives an interesting look into how they process information. seeing something you carefully constructed by hand be reduced to seemingly arbitrary fragments of data is humbling. i didnt even know this was a thing you could do til i saw you do it (i forget when, i think it was with one of your rainer paintings?)
HI OLIVER!! thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to talk about databending because it's something i adore unabashedly. it's an amazing technique to use whenever you wanna make some Crazy Stuff. i personally use audacity to databend—this is a pretty common method, but i'm gonna make a mini-tutorial about it anyway because it's FUN, and because the process is actually really simple!
Here's the image I'll be imploding for this demonstration. I chose it because it was like the first file in my pictures folder, and because it's a good image.

STEP 1. Prepare your image! It has to be an uncompressed image format such as .bmp or .tif, because compressed image formats (such as .png or jpg) are generally too volatile to work with due to the nature of their data. I opened this image in Paint, saved it as a 24-bit Bitmap, and named it FREAK.bmp, because that's what it is.
STEP 2. In Audacity, go to File > Import > Raw Data. Open the image you prepared, and use these settings to import it:

You'll get this image as raw audio data, which I recommend you do NOT play. It will be very loud and abrasive, so probably keep your volume down in case you accidentally play it.

STEP 3. Start messing with the audio! You can use basically anything in Audacity's effects menu for good results, though I tend to favor Bass and Treble, Echo, Invert, dblue Crusher, and dblue Glitch. You can also copy and paste portions of the audio data in different places, and even import other audio to play alongside the data.
Try not to edit the very beginning or very end of the audio, as this might end up corrupting the image header, and it won't be readable as an image anymore. Don't shy too far from them, though; if you avoid them too much, the top and bottom areas of the image will remain unchanged. The positioning of the audio data is surprisingly straightforward, so with enough practice, you can approximate what portion you'll be editing with relative ease.
This is definitely the longest part of the process, since it can take a lot of trial and error for good results. At the start, I recommend doing little portions at a time to get a sense of what exactly your edits are affecting. Try a lot of different things, and remember that Audacity lets you undo things easily and infinitely!
STEP 4. Once your audio is sufficiently screwed, go to File > Export > Export Audio. Use these settings to export it:

Make sure to replace .raw with .bmp, or whatever image format you used.
STEP 5. Enjoy your image! Here's what I ended up with.

For the record, I messed with the audio a LOT here. You can get much more subtle—or much more severe results—depending on how much or how little you alter, or how you alter it. Here's another databent picture, which I made by putting a 3 second clip of "Kiss Me Thru the Phone" over the image data.

It's so interesting seeing a song be reduced to something so arbitrary in an image format. It's equally interesting seeing something as arbitrary as audio waveforms becoming a semi-coherent image, ignoring the Soulja Boy-induced scar in the center. It always makes you wonder how it works. If you sang at just the right pitch, could it became a photo of a sunset? What if it became a portrait of someone you've never seen before, or someone that doesn't exist at all? That's obviously impossible, but there's this strange sense of wonder about it anyway. It still seems plausible, because the data that constitutes an image is generated in such a way that there exist infinite, arbitrary combinations—combinations which might just be coherent to us, if a billion different binary stars align.
The way this data is stored isn't arbitrary at all though, even if it looks that way to us. Audacity's audio waveforms are only one way to visualize this raw data. Here's FREAK.bmp, but visualized via plaintext rather than audio data.

Computers just seem so magical sometimes. The raw data is incomprehensible to our eyes, but they can read it for us and transmit exactly what they see. As long as you keep the proper headers in place, it'll still read this data as a picture, as perceivable pixels, no matter how nonsensical it otherwise looks to a human.
It's interesting to think about databending in terms of glitches. The results are often very similar to glitches that might organically manifest, but the process is entirely intentional. It usually takes some effort and intent to get a "good" result from databending, but glitches and corruption are entirely void of human intent. They just happen, arbitrarily, for any number of reasons.
If something's just a little out of place, you might get a huge, jarring stripe slashed across the image's center—or you might break the image entirely, if it's out of place a little too far to the left. You'd never be able to tell the difference yourself, but a computer certainly can. But to a computer...

I have a silly question, but do you have any advice to get more people to read your fic?
first of all i don't think this is a silly question at all!! and (perhaps this is presomptuous but indulge me) for the record it is totally okay and normal to want eyes on your fic. it's natural to want people to read what you wrote and there's nothing wrong with wanting to connect with people who might enjoy your writing 👍
with that said, i'm not sure i'm the best person to ask when it comes to this, but i'll try my best. there are a few ways that can help, though there are of course no guarantees:
interacting with other fans and reading and commenting their works: imo this is especially a good method if what you crave is community above all, but it can be kind of hit and miss. some people might check out your works in the process, but there are also fan creators who only make things and don't seek out other people's creations. with that said, this is probably the best way to get more readers "organically."
advertising your fic on other platforms: this is the classic way. however, it can be kind of discouraging to have to hype yourself up regularly, especially if you get no response. you could make it more involved by making graphics etc, or extremely casual by just dropping a link and a screenshot. (this is mostly what i try to do, although i don't think i'm very good at it, admittedly...)
joining discord servers or other communities dedicated to fic writing: obviously, this isn't an option if you're not super into the more social aspects of fandom, but i've had good experiences with those. i've only ever been in multifandom ones (mostly bc i'm not in large enough fandoms to justify single-fandom ones existing, i think) and it can also just help with fic writing in general as a bonus.
participating in fandom events: i mostly do AO3-based exchanges, and there are definitely fandoms where you can get more eyes on your fic that way. things like ship weeks can be good also, i think. this isn't the way to get eyes on a specific fic, of course, but people might check out the rest of your work if they like your writing.
that covers most of it, i believe... i'm very laid-back personally because i don't like putting too much pressure on myself (it backfires on me more than anything else) so i don't even share everything i post on AO3 here for example. which is a shame bc i really enjoy this reverse chronology ficlet i posted earlier this month and it didn't get much attention at all. 😔

AITA for abandoning my world for 103 years?
Ok I know this sounds bad but let me explain.
I (NB, don't really have an age) am the creator of two worlds but only one is important to this story. The one that isn't relevant is more like a world-sized computer, but the relevant one is just your average world with life and stuff, and was the first one I made.
Before you mention it, I know there are guides and templates for life created by the God community. I know the best way to make stable life is to put a simple organism on the world and let it evolve to fit the environment. I know. Believe me, I know. But I certainly didn't know or care back when I made this world because I wanted to make everything from scratch. That was foolish of me. I know. I should have at least read a guide or something.
All this to say I made a bit of a mistake with my initial thought algorithm. Because thoughts work quite fast and I wanted to see everything so I could troubleshoot, I introduced an intentional "throttle" into the algorithm; it would wait for me to acknowledge the thought before it progressed. It's all fun and games until you forget to remove that throttle and create countless creatures all using that flawed algorithm. Yeah.
I didn't want to wipe everything out and start over because that seemed needlessly cruel. Applying patches to anything, especially something like brains, live is a difficult and risky process for the person with the brain. So I just kinda set up a "server room" of power that would just auto-acknowledge anything coming through. That was a temporary solution.
I spent a good couple centuries working out a method to patch the throttle out of my beings. The expansion of life was beginning to overwhelm my temporary measure. I was tired. So tired. I finished it and found blissful silence awaiting me. Wonderful.
In fact I was so tired I wanted to take a bit of a break. I'd also use the time I would be out to test and workshop a self-sufficient, hands-free (for me at least) way to keep my world safe from any existential threats. They're not common, but it's always a good thing to look out for.
So I decided that I would randomly give out my power to people, disappear completely (except for a couple recording devices that were hidden ofc), and come back in a year and see how things went. Then I'd adjust things accordingly. Simple right? What could possibly go wrong?
I think you probably get what happened, but I'll explain it anyways. I essentially had NO IDEA the flow of time was usually different between universes. I didn't know I was supposed to chrono-lock my universe and the universe I was in together to preserve the flow of time between them. And I just so happened to take my year-long vacation to a universe that was REALLY slow compared to mine.
So I come back, 103 years later. There was a war, and this lady somehow consolidated everyone's power and is now acting as the goddess of my world (which I'm honestly fine with, I was never one to take an active role in my world). There's a cult worshiping me, using the hijacked power of one of my observation devices to shield themselves from the lady who made herself the goddess and doing terrible things in my name. Things kinda sucked.
And I'm sort of thinking things would be a lot better if I didn't accidentally spend 103 years of my world's time on vacation. So, AITA?
