Another OC character question bit I did last year and wanted to share! This time featuring my characters Mal (dark haired one) and Kaela (light haired one) from my story Feathers and Flowers! ;w;

Given my general lack of posting OC work here up until recently, I know I’ve never shown off Mal’s human form, so here it be! If you need a reminder, Mal is the big gal with horns and wings in this post :> You’ll also see Kaela’s updated and current design there too; piece is before I gave her a haircut and some alterations to her design. owo

For general context: Mal is a Spirit and she’s basically ended up as Kaela’s roommate and work partner on her humble lil farm out in the country. Why Mal is even in the human realm is a mystery, but she’s on a mission no one is fully aware of. o3o

 If you don’t mind a bit of lore trivia:

Mal is very fascinated with all types of gaming; there isn't such a thing in her own realm so it's an entirely new and exciting experience for her. She in particular really enjoys horror games and survival RPGs, and anything that promotes a challenge. Horror games don't scare her but she remains invested all the same. She does have an ulterior motive for playing them though, and that's partly because Kaela does the jumping and fearing and hiding for her. Quite frankly, Mal thinks it's both endearing and funny. uwu

But ye! To those of you who’re here for Koopa/Big-Daddy Bowser shenanigans no fears! I’ve got stuff in the works, I just had OC art sitting on my harddrive and wanted to share that stuff :> More to come soon! ;w;

2023

Haven't really had time to reflect on last year or the fact that a new one is starting, so I might as well write this all out to look back on. This year (2023 but now its 2024 but whatever its only been like 5 days) has been NUTS. Not just in my personal life but the things I've been able to achieve and experience in 2023, and I'd like to list them down to just look back on them and record for the future 👍

Gained 5000 followers on Tumblr and 100,000 on Tiktok! Also 8000 on Youtube, and hope to be able to post more on there :]

Got my art as someone's tattoo!

Made 14 small animations... not my best but HOPING TO DO BETTER!

Opened Commissions!

Got a job... It's an achievement I guess but it's making me miserable and I'm working on leaving it soon 😭

Joined my first completed MAP/Reanimated Project!

Got a commissioned design produced. It was a logo for a local business, and had them physically printed on bags!

Learned how to use Adobe Animate

...........Held a hedgehog.. it hurt.

I don't know what 2024 has in store. But I'm still going to strive to achieve more this year! So I've cooked up a couple long term goals and possibly update what's become of them in the 2025 log o3o

Open an art business! Like fan-merch kinda stuff. Maybe even get a small event booth... But just selling online is enough!

Animate more definitely... at least 10 fully made animations minimum 👀

ATTEMPT to learn 3D Animation

Join at least one collaborative animated project again 🤭

I'm really counting on doing the legwork to reach these goals this time. It isn't the end of the world if it doesn't end up working out, but it would be real nice if they do end up becoming reality :]

Theodore “Teddy” Shelley

An incredibly shy and self-conscious architect with a lot on his mind and not enough confidence to say it most of the time. Teddy developed a severe stuttering problem when he was a very young child, one which speech therapy was unable to correct due to those present making an overall unpleasant experience, and as such tries to avoid speaking verbally whenever possible. Thankfully he gets by just fine with notes and signing for the most part, but of course, every so often there are moments where people are just frustrating about it because he isn’t literally incapable of speaking unlike his spouse. Even with his shyness and being almost entirely nonverbal, when around someone that he’s comfortable with he is a fountain of enthusiasm. Those closest to him even have the occasional pleasure of hearing him speak willingly.

I couldn’t help myself, I just really wanted to finalize Teddy’s design even with the large amount of stuff in my art queue (though thankfully it’s fairly shortened now, I can see the last entry without scrolling down in my document). I need to finalize Cosmos’s older self as well so I can do cute shippy art of them without feeling sketchy, but thankfully the only major difference is that they let their hair grow out and have a slightly updated outfit so the old color ref would still work. Also gonna draw them both during college at some point, tho fair warning that Teddy doesn’t come out as a guy until a decent amount of time after they meet (like a few months at least) so he’ll likely still have a feminine presentation in that instance o3o

She’s got a couple little smudges on her that are visible close up, and she’s missing her original earrings, but she’s the oldest of the bunch, and is very, very cute. My best guess is that she’s from 1987, and she’s very clearly older than the rest of them! Her eyelashes were very faded, so I repainted them, and she’s going to be rooted in a beautiful peachy-orange color!

The nest three are newer than #1, but cleaner and less delicate. I’m estimating all three of them to be from the late 90′s. #2 has what I assume are her original earrings, beautiful, pearly pink lips, and her only notable flaw is a small spot on her chin. She’s going to be rooted in a sandy-brown color, and since her original rooting was designed for twin tails, that’s probably what she’ll get!

#3 was the saddest looking of the original bunch, but now, I think she might be the cutest! Her original paint is in very good condition, she has cute, flower-shaped earrings, and the only modification I’ve done to her is giving her a small beauty mark below her eye. She’s going to be rooted in candy pink, and I feel like she’d look extra nice with her hair curled~

#4 is also very cute! Her paint and earrings are intact, and her only notable flaw is a small spot underneath one of her eyes. She’s also originally rooted in a twin tail pattern, and her new hair is going to be a rich, dark brown. Her eyes are a very vivid blue, and her previous owner included the green-pink hair beads from the “Before” picture, which I’ll probably use for her again!
