A Shattered Peace: October 2022 Prompts
2 - Pilot
[previous] [next]
Rating: Everyone Word Count: 902 Author's Note: Part of a series of shorts inspired by random SW October prompt lists, all set in the same universe as my fic, A Shattered Peace (not necessary to read that first, but helpful). Summary: Amara and Wolffe fluff because there can never be enough. Set sometime after Chapter 3 of ASP Also available on AO3
Wolffe had always imagined that his death would be quick. Rapid blaster fire to the chest, a fiery explosion he wouldn’t have time to think about. Something that befitted his job as commander in the Grand Army of the Republic.
He never thought his death would come in the form of a twenty-year-old Jedi Knight who was flying them to their ruin.
Looking back at all the scrapes Commander Kora had gotten into over the past few months since he’d met her, Wolffe supposed he shouldn’t have been surprised. (The fact that she had also gotten herself and her men out of said scrapes alive, if not unharmed, was irrelevant at the moment, thank you very much.)
“Relax, Wolffe, I know what I’m doing.”
Amara’s voice was light and teasing. It held none of the weight that the situation demanded and Wolffe glared out the viewport of the ship as the planet beneath them continued to grow larger and larger at much too fast a pace. If she knew what she was doing, why weren’t they slowing down?
Wolffe could admit that he wasn’t the best flyer, and that, when it came down to it, Commander Kora likely did know more about being a pilot than him.
But that didn’t mean he was an idiot. And only an idiot would look out the viewport and not think this ship was destined for a fiery death.
Maybe he’d get his explosion after all.
Wolffe shifted his grip on the back of the pilot’s seat as Amara leaned into the controls, seemingly making the ship go faster. He didn’t know how that was supposed to help anything.
In the reflection of the viewport, Amara rolled her eyes. Wolffe bit back a retort.
“I’ve done this loads of times, we’ll be fine.”
Her voice was confident — unwavering, determined. And if it weren’t for the fact that Wolffe had spent their entire time together shamelessly honed in on the sound of her every word, he might have missed the slight undercurrent of doubt.
He locked onto the reflection of her gaze.
“How many times is ‘loads’, exactly?”
She gave him a look. He gave one back.
“Humor me, Commander, please.”
Amara waved a hand between them before quickly replacing it back on the control when the ship jolted to the left. “Once or twice.”
Still regaining his balance after the jolt, Wolffe stared at her in what he was sure was abject horror. The air around them seemed to grow colder, which was odd because they were about to enter the planet’s atmosphere and that was supposed to be hot, right? He suddenly wasn’t sure. Maybe he could comb through the files in his mind for a memory of one of his, admittedly few, pilot lessons and figure out how to save the—
He felt a sudden but gentle push toward the co-pilot’s seat that snapped him out of his haze, and he stumbled into the chair, craning his head around to glare at Amara. Her eyes were on the planet before them, hands still on the control.
Had she Force-pushed him? In the middle of his very necessary, panic-induced, strategizing? What did she think she was doing? He opened his mouth to complain or yell or both, but Amara beat him to it.
“I don’t have time to coddle you, Wolffe. I’m all we have right now, so either buckle up and brace or get in the back with the droids.”
Coddle? That cleared his head.
Securing the harness over his shoulders and across his waist, Wolffe scowled. “I have never once in my life needed to be coddled.”
“Whatever you say, Wolffe.”
Again, if it weren’t for him being too attuned to every cadence of Amara’s voice, he might have missed the hint of a smile in her words.
But he was.
And he didn’t.
Somehow, despite the dread creeping through his veins and the tension tightening his every muscle, he felt his mouth twitch upwards.
Just before they entered the atmosphere, heat billowing around him just as he’d thought it would, Wolffe caught Amara’s gaze in the reflection again. The smile in her voice was echoed on her face.
Wolffe suddenly couldn’t remember why he had been so worried.
This was Amara. Commander Kora. Even if she wasn’t the former apprentice of one of the best pilots in the galaxy, or considered by some of the men in his own battalion to be nearly on Plo Koon’s level of expertise herself, she was also his co-commander. His . . . friend. Of course she’d get them to safety — she always did.
A calm settled over him and he relaxed into the seat, hands still gripping the arm rests but not as tightly.
He wouldn’t die today. Not like this.
But even if he did . . .
He let himself return Amara’s smile, keeping his eyes on her even as she turned back to the task at hand. Her brow furrowed, her dark eyes serious but calm under the strands of hair that had fallen from her braids, her body tensed and ready for action while somehow also demanding that he stay focused on her instead of the rushing scene ahead of them.
Yes, Wolffe realized, even if Amara was the death of him, he wouldn’t care much at all. He’d still board this ship all the same. He’d still stay right by her side.
Fiery explosion and all.

IF ANYONE WANTS WRITING INSPO
ok here’s the thing. I’m way too lazy and unmotivated to write a whole series, I am in awe of anyone who can actually do that or has done it. But in the spirit of ✨ hypocrisy✨ , of course I love reading them, and thinking about ideas for some series that will never actually come to fruition. So, for all the ACOTAR writers out there, I have a way-too-long idea for an Azriel x reader that I want to read as a series, or even like a couple of snippets of writing. Here it is:
Ok, so our (preferably female bc it’s my request but I’m not trying to disclude people here it’s just my preference) MC (I like the name Kora/Cora, or Arya, whatever, but y’know, since I’m not writing this, it’s not exactly my decision to make, it could just be Y/N, that’s fine too). Anyways, she’s half-seraphim, from Cretea, and is the commander of the seraphim/Cretea army. Now, here’s where the pick your story begins. I was thinking that she could be Drakon’s sister or something, to make her a princess, even though she only acts like a commander (I love nicknames that have a meaning. So like if Azriel calls the reader angel, it’s because of her white seraphim wings, and if he calls her princess, it’s because she actually is one). So she can either be his sister, or just the commander. She was old enough to have fought in that big war that happened with Miryam and stuff about the humans or whatever. IMPORTANT PART OF THIS: MC has water and ice powers, but to a massive scale. Like she can raise ocean tides, create snow/hailstorms, all that good stuff. I was thinking she could be called a Tidemaker, like in the Grishaverse, but you could totally change around the name. That’s the base of her character. Other than what I described, free reign to whoever is crazy enough to read/write this.
So now, I think of this as a slight (major) rewrite. This takes place right after Feyre makes it back home from enemy Tamlin. So, Hybern’s armies attack Createa for some UnKnOwN reason. Maybe MC’s dad/parental figure dies in the battle, and MC is filled with grief and rage. MC fights against them until she’s bloody and battered, using the ocean and sky as her weapons. Cretea is utterly destroyed, and she tries flying to a safe place. She had met Rhysand, Cassian, and our boy Azriel before during that Great War, because she was a commander, and the Night Court was allied with Cretea at the time. She remembers this, and tries to fly all the way to Velaris. She just makes it before collapsing/passing out, and Azriel’s shadows bring him to her.
Now, our boy is shocked because he actually used to have a little crush on MC the war so many decades ago. He sees her about to die and starts to ✨ panic✨ , obviously. So, I’m thinking he tells his shadows to find Madja, and busts into the House of Wind or something, and like alerts everyone by just saying “it’s Kora/Arya/MC”. So blah blah blah, cute Azriel taking care of MC moments, she tells them what she remembers about being attacked, etc. ALSO, i think it would be SO GREAT if Cassian and Rhysand called her Goose, instead of dove, or one of those other cheesy nicknames. Geese still have white wings, so it kinda fits. I just think it would be kinda funny if the first time they were meeting to discuss war strategy, MC showed off all of her powers, and established herself as a powerful, bad b****h, and these idiots call her a goose. AnYwAyS, time skip to the meeting with the high lords cause I don’t think things through. MC comes in later than our night court buddies because she “likes to make an entrance”, and walks in there with like a crown of gold laurels (i like that as a crown idea), and like a sage green dress or something (GREEN AND GOLD IS SO PRETTY), and is all like “hello ladies! and boys. What did I miss?” after not being there for like 200 years. Everyone is shocked, and she has a little spat with Beron, where she’s like “You’re just itching to play, huh Beron? Well, I’ll warn you, fire doesn’t tend to thrive with someone like me *smirk*.” I’M DYING. And meanwhile Azriel’s *mini* crush is slowly developing even more. So after that idc what happens, BUT. I think it would be great if Cassian made MC a general or something to help him out in the war with Hybern. Then, when she goes to leave after the war, to rebuild Cretea, and Rhys and Cass ask her to stay, she give a condition, which is that she wants to train the Illyrian girls. And she would leave after she feels like that initiative is set in place. So once she sees that females are being trained, she leaves. Later, Cass invites her for winter solstice very last minute, so she comes with one gift, for our special somene, AZZY BOY!. And it’s a moonflower in an ice sphere, cause headcannon: Azriel likes moonflowers, and so does MC. One day they were walking together or flying together, and she saw some, and pointed them out. Then Azriel plucked one and TUCKED IT IN HER HAIR OMG GET ME SOMEONE LIKE AZRIEL. And he’s like amazed that she remembered and saved the flower. Crush level rising. But at the same time, Elain seems interested in him, which MC can see, and thinks that Az likes Elain, so she goes back to Cretea cause she a little bit jelly.
I’m not a romance writer, so I was just thinking that once Cretea is close to rebuilt, MC invites everyone to come visit, and is taking a stroll with Azriel. She sees moonflowers again, and this time she plucks one and puts it in his hair, and goes “Damn. I bet I didn’t look this good when that thing was in my hair.” And then Azriel mutters under his breath, “you did. you looked ethereal. like an angel.” but MC kinda hears a little bit of it, so she gives Azriel a little kiss on his jaw, cause she can’t reach his cheek (THE HEIGHT DIFFERENCE I’M SCREAMING) and says “I heard that Az. I think you look ethereal too.” He’s one blushy boy after this. omg why am I like this. But, plot twist, Elain saw this whole interaction go down and gets PISSED. Meanwhile, MC drags Azriel around, while he trails behind her like an awestruck puppy. She finds a starfruit tree (which I’m making native to Cretea, like it’s a rare thing elsewhere) and gets some seeds from them from Elain, saying that it would be good for her garden. And Azriel just thinks about how thoughtful she is, even to people she doesn’t necessarily like. They get back, and Elain is complaining about how Azriel chose MC over her to Nesta , who I think would be besties with MC. MC walks into the room and hears. Elain realizes this and tries to insult/yell at MC. But MC just had a sad smile and goes, “I brought you some starfruit seeds, Elain. They’re only native to Cretea, and I thought it might be good for your garden. Good night Elain.” OK so this is why I think it would be good if MC was Drakon’s sister and a princess. She knows she’s a princess, but she really only considers herself to be a commander. She’s debating going back to Cretea, or staying, and she tells Azriel that she’s prob gonna leave soon. And our bat boy is all ✨ panik✨  when he hears this. He says “But I wa - everyone wants you to stay”. MC smirks and goes “what were going to say Az. They’re like really close together now, so Az leans down and gives her a gentle kiss and goes, “I want you stay”. MC is stunned for a moment, and looking dazed, goes “well then I guess I’m staying.”AHHHHHHHHH. She can prob be a general under Cass.
OK SO I DO HAVE AN IDEA FOR MORE WITH OUR ANGEL AND DEVIL. Where they discover the mating bond, there’s a big threat on Cretea, MC is a bad b***h as always, and protective Azriel makes several appearences.
Y’all can make up some situations after this as well, or if you want, which I don’t know why you would, my disorganized mess of a brain can write more about the thing above.
OMG THIS WAS WAY TOO LONG. Plz tell me if u guys liked this, or are actually gonna write this crap. And let me know is you have questions! Have a nice day lovelies!

The Report Card – Fantasy High: The Seven Ep 3
Let’s Split Up and Look for Clues!
Welcome back to the Seven and the Museum of Adventuring. My previous pronouncement of combat was a little premature but hold tight, we’ll get there. For now, we’re back with Antiope who just saw a glimpse of the Ending of Things (aka, Ending) and is freaking out a bit. She tells the others and they all do various checks to see what they can find out.
Ostentatia casts Commune With City and clocks that there is some kind of abjuration shield magic on the government buildings in town, stopping them from being spied on. She also clocks some lingering undead-ish magic and a weird divination effect on Antiope, specifically on the Aguefort logo of her jacket, like someone scryed on her and just got that she had something to do with Aguefort. At this, Penny reminds her that the only true piece of info they gave Ending when they broke her out is that they were from Aguefort.
Sam with a 19 Insight still feels the connection she and Ant have with Ending because of their spells turned against them in the initial encounter. Yelle does a Perception check (27) and once again doesn’t really get bad, dreadful, menacing vibes. But also, she recognizes that she’s chill with a lot of things most people don’t love.
Antiope reiterates that she texted Charity that she’s interested in the internship so she can learn more info--even better now that they know the buildings are safe from scrying. Yelle remembers Aguefort’s warning about people watching them and Sam asks Zelda if her “weird boyfriend” (“he’s actually really cool”) is friends with the elven oracle. Zelda says yeah, they’re both friends with Adaine, she can ask about any weird divination stuff. Sam makes sure to specify she should look into TK but NOT Ending, no doubt remembering what happened when she tried to do a spell on her.
It’s been a big day as Zelda says so they all go to the TGIF-esque Slappy McFinnigans to celebrate (which Sam has problems with--the fact that they’re celebrating I mean, but she’s mainly ignored). They’re quickly kicked out because Katja can’t help herself from trying to brush the mane of their centaur server and they reconvene at the more their speed SlamBurger, where a horse can fully destroy a soda machine to absolutely zero reaction.  Zelda says that Ostentatia was right in that they should all do the quest because it doesn’t close any doors and they have the 2 weeks to figure things out. They all seem a bit more on the same page (though Sam is still pretty frosty towards Ant) and start making plans.
Before they leave, Yelle pulls aside Ant and Sam and says hey, first of all, you two are still linked to Ending from before. Second of all, I know y’all are Going Through It right now and you don’t have to talk about it or make up right away but you need to get your heads in the game and you need to know that you’re both loved and still family.
Penny, Zelda, Katja, and Ostentatia go back to the museum to try and get more information for their quest. Katja goes to the information desk (horse in tow, of course) and just starts asking information about TK. She’s told that she’s one of the museum’s benefactors and has been missing for years, and hey, do you understand that a museum’s info desk is about where the water fountains and exhibits are, not just random information about the world?
Ostentatia bails her out by calling her over so she can do her plan which is just to walk into the back area like she owns the place. Now, Aguefort students do have a certain level of clearance to be back there and she does have her school ID. But instead of explaining that, she tried to use her Earrings of Diamond Charm to charm the employee she runs into which fails. And then she does a pretty good tag-team lie with Katja about how they NEED to pass a class but that doesn’t fly. Then Ostentatia tries flirting which ALSO doesn’t work. Zelda at this point steps in and just headbuts the dude so they can book it away. I personally would have gone with, “Do you know who we are? We killed the dragon that’s your current main exhibit,” but you know. No backseat adventuring.
While this is happening, Penny is stealthing like a pro, looking for anything Arcana related. Ostentatia and Katja also did checks (O getting a nat 20) and we’ll go through all their info gathered now.
Katja basically gets info on TK we kind of already knew. She was a benefactor of the museum. She’s centuries old like Aguefort. She was concerned with consciousness and divinity and specifically how will and divine will manifested, as well as elemental magic.
Ostentatia gets a lot of info with her Nat 20. She gets a full map to the temple where TK went which is called the Temple of Earth Defiant. The point of the temple is that it’s up in the open air and harsh winds--wind being a symbol of chaos and unpredictability to dwarves--but they still use it as a place to honor their heroes and they rebuild and upkeep it despite the erosion and how hard it is to get there. It’s hallowed from evil and lots of stories about it involve heroes racing there for sanctuary. It was made by dwarves but it’s a pilgrimage site for other primordial beings like goliaths and earth genasi (which is what TK is). There are 3 heroes who have big statues here: Asha Hammerheart (a SUPER dope name I must say), Yvonna of the Sundering Hills , and Kora Ironbrow.
Penny finds that, amongst Kalvaxus’s hoard there were 7 unrecovered artifacts--the Mirrors of the Eidolons (which are the smashed mirrors they found it seems). Eidelons are kind of like the elemental plane version of angels/celestials. They’re primordial (remember Katja saw primordial language on the wall of the dragon cave) and kind of aligned with things like titans and genies. Raw element with no agenda (unlike celestials and demons and such which have a clear alignment which makes up the D&D religious system). It is said by wizards--who look at these things in more of a nuts and bolts way than say clerics who take the fuzzier religions view--that Eidolons are the hands of the gods because gods are beings of spirit--how could they form the physical world. Will of the divine manifested by elemental beings? Sounds right up TK’s alley.
Sam decides she’s desperate enough for information that she calls her mom who she is understandably snippy with. Her mom gives her a contact to talk to when she asks about TK but Sam stonewalls her on show business talk. She tries to play the “mother knows best, you’ll thank me later,” in a kind of Gothel-y way while acting like anything in the past never happened and says Sam is attacking her but when Sam accuses her of neglect, she proves her right by hanging up the phone.
Sam then calls the number and it turns out to be Lola Embers (Fig’s agent) who has been waiting for Sam’s call for ages and wants to talk to her, even though she’s currently chasing her dog across the park. She says she met TK once at a genasi woman networking thing and also says she once saw Charity get into an argument with TK over government funding or not getting a grant or something similar. She then says she’s in a lake trying to get her dog and Sam, being a water genasi who can breathe underwater and also a fundamentally good person even though she’s currently being aggro as hell, goes to the park to help her. Lola assures her that if she’s ready, she’ll help her get new acting gigs and that the world is ready for the new her.
Yelle meanwhile casts Speak With Plants on some trees near TK’s office and, after a super stoner to stoner conversation, gets a magical footprint trail of where she ran off to when she absconded 12 years ago.
Antiope (who is in a sports bra because she destroyed her top with the Aguefort logo since that’s what was pinged, revealing in a wild, nat-1 fueled retcon that she got a tramp stamp reading “Leader” in the Red Waste) goes to see Charity to fill out some paperwork, ingratiate herself, and perhaps get some info. Charity has her hot, young, assistant (who Antiope is instantly crushing on) give Ant his shirt (and Charity’s lack of surprise at seeing his 4 horses pulling a chariot tattoo makes the group think they’re def banging). She kind of explains what the Ministry does and Antiope boils it down a bit to snitching on other adventurers. Charity says it’s more of a who watches the watchmen situation and visibly twitches when she has to say the word “snitch”.
When she takes a second to call Antiope’s dad, she accidentally leaves a tab open on her computer which has TK’s file open (probably up from when the Maidens asked about her earlier). Antiope sneaks a peek and learns that the artifact that TK stole is called the Legendarium Extrodia and it tracks quests. It seems that at some point TK must have had top level access to get her hands on it. It also shows that TK was marked for assassination (which seems like a pretty good reason to get the heck out of dodge). Brennan also says she’s learned enough that she can use the L.E. if she finds it.
At this point, Yelle tells everyone to come back ASAP so they can follow the magic footsteps. Antiope wants to come but doesn’t want to burn bridges with Charity (or chances with Preston--equally important) so she, at Katja’s suggestion--pretends to have diarrhea and is Nat 20 convincing. Interesting choice for the end of the first meeting with a person you’re crushing on. But Preston is actually pretty supportive as she races out the door as fast as possible.
The Seven follow the footsteps out of Solace and it becomes clear that TK was headed to the dwarven temple Ostentatia learned about. This is a multi-day journey so Cinnamon sings a glorious, magical, horse song and summons mounts for everyone which I will now name because this is obviously the most important part of the episode:
Snowfire - Danielle
Taffodill - Sam
Alagonia - Antiope
Candyheart - Penny
Starforge - Ostentatia
Strawberry Dancer - Zelda
Crucial info.
As they travel, Antiope casts Primeval Awareness and gets that there is something ancient in the mountain. They travel through Pilgrim’s Pass (a village area most travelers to the temple pass through) but find it completely razed to the ground. They investigate.
With an 18 Survival check, Antiope finds tracks that seem halfway between dog and cat. There are more than 4 legs and it’s hard to tell how old they are because there’s not a lot of rain in the area. They could have been left long ago and been undisturbed. Regardless, these are clearly from monstrosities. On a 26 History Check, Katja knows that this area used to be protected by Blink Dogs (teleporting dogs) but they seem to be all gone now. On a 22 Nature check, Yelle sees a weird feather made out of plant material. It seems like fae stuff but bad vibes. On an 18 Insight check, Sam knows this was a purposeful slaughter.
And on Penny’s 30 Arcana check, oh boy. Penny finds broken common scrawled on the wall in human blood talking about a queen of the mountain who rules the skies. That only the queen may see and none may see themselves. And that the people were told to destroy the seeing glass and did not obey. In from of that message is a bear hide covering something magic. Penny lifts it with reckless abandon and sees tons of mirror shards.
Friendship bracelets! She thinks.
Gotcha bitch, the thing in the mirror says.
Uh-oh.
Penny calls over her friends to let them knows she may have made a tiny mistake. The group is pretty split between, “Understandable,” and “Girl, WHAT?” In her defense, she did try to cast Friends on the person on the other side of the mirror shards but that’s not enough to stop an entire pack of 50-60 Displacer Beast (magic tentacle cats)/Blink Dog hybrid monstrosities along with the Harpy Queen (voice from the mirror) and her plant feathered harpy minions to start rapidly making their way to their location.
It is at this point that Ostentatia remembers that abominations and monstrosities cannot step into the temple which means it’s time to RUN.
And NOW it’s combat time.
The premise of this fight is that the girls are on their horses, moving towards the center of the temple as fast as they can while fending off the closest enemies. I won’t give an exact play by play but the two highlights are as follows:
Yelle conjures up a bunch of geese with raptor stats (...so normal geese) to swarm the head cat/dog abomination and has to do a truly stunning amount of math for which she is rewarded with SEVENTY POINTS OF DAMAGE.
Antiope does some insane arrow trickery and gets the Queen Harpy in the wing (which Ostentatia helpfully gets on video so she can show Preston later) and then forces her to take damage as she falls. If not for an extremely lucky Box of Doom nat 20, she may have been down for the count. Antiope still comes away with more than FIFTY points of damage on her though.
And we end the episode mid-combat! We will catch up on our girls next time!
Superlatives
Penny: Most Likely to Make Friends During a Hostage Situation
As a companion to Danielle’s superlative last episode, Penny gets this award for reading or misreading every situation as an opportunity to make friends or make friendship bracelets for the ones she already has.
Random Thoughts
Did you guys notice that with Katja having Cinnamon and Charity’s assistant being Preston, that’s two of the main pet NPCs from A Crown of Candy?
Antiope’s Reaction to Yelle Saying That Maybe Things Ending Isn’t So Bad: Rail against the dying of the light! Why are you OK with this?
Penny’s Reaction to Yelle Saying That Maybe Things Ending Isn’t So Bad: Entropy is TERRIBLE! Everything needs order!
The greasy cashier’s response to Ostentatia’s flirty, “Come here often?” is “To my job? Honestly no.” Brennan? Chef’s kiss.
My other fave line this episode is from Sam. “I believe Cinnamon fucks.”
It’s very cute that Penny is like, “I gotta text Riz about this Eidelon stuff!” Not because she wants help. Just so they can geek out together.
The joke that Brennan didn’t think about the birds is so funny considering all the bird facts in Misfits.
Also re Birds attacking: “They made a movie about this Brennan!”
Good on Ant for refusing an Aguefort sweatshirt from Charity when offered after the little scrying incident before. Remembering things like this saves lives.
It has been brought up several times that Ending isn’t necessarily Bad just Ancient and Powerful and I trust Yelle’s vibe check but also, like, a forest fire doesn’t have malice behind it but it can still devastate a city while it clears out dead trees that need to be cleared, you know? Not ready to start wild speculation yet but I am curious. And am similarly curious about the sisters Ending has mentioned. Oh and the parallels of 7 Maidens, 7 mirrors. It’s all there, we just need a little more info.
Honestly, get you a man who will see you rushing out of a building, loudly claiming to have diarrhea, and instead of being grosses out will just supportively confess his own stomach issues. I wish he was just a little younger cause I want that for Ant.
I do like that D20 has been playing a little more fast and loose with the RP ep/combat ep format. I think it really helps with story flow.
In this episode Antiope and Brennan as various non-Zelda NPCs rolled 2 Nat 20s. O rolled one. Ant rolled 1 Nat 1--which was on a self imposed roll to see how she responded to Sephie’s tramp stamp improv. And O may have rolled one for initiative also but I wasn’t sure.

Kou Nightmares Smutt
Starring my O/C Kora
Trigger warning, sexual, verbal and physical abuse.
I laid next to the pop idol vampire and watched as his beautiful face contorted in pain. The grey silk sheets wrapped around his body tighter with every twitch and moan. My heart hurt watching him like this, but I also knew it was a bad idea to wake someone up from a night terror. Instead i scooted closer to him and tried to put my arm around his chest-
“Don't touch me!” He screamed and I thought he had finally woken up.
“Kou, honey” I started but was interrupted with a loud moan from Kou. Oh my poor baby. I thought to myself. I moved my arm slowly closer to his chest and moved my head to kiss his. When my arm connected with his body Kou jerked and sat up gasping for air.
“Hey,” I whispered. “It's ok now. It was just a dream. Im here.” Kou Jumped at the sound of my voice and spun around with a wild look in his eyes. He leaned forward growling and showing his fangs.
“I won't let you hurt me again you son of a bitch!” He yelled wrapping his hands around my throat and pushing me back down onto the bed. I gasped and struggled against him trying to think what I should do. I gently placed my hands on either side of his face.
“Kou, baby. It’s me. It's your Masa- Kitty.” I choke out struggling for air. When my hands touched his face Kou snapped out of it and wretched back staring at his hands.
“Oh my god. What have I done? Are you ok kitten?” He said fear and anxiety in his voice and showed in his face.
“I’m fine.” I rasp, taking his hands in mine. “Are you ok?”
“You're worried about me? I just tried to kill you!” Kou whispered trying to pull his hands out of mine.
“Of course i am worried about you. You didn't mean to hurt me. It was just a bad dream.” I said gripping his hands tighter so he couldn't pull them away. Kou’s shoulders slouched as he hung his head and began to cry. I pulled him into my chest and stroked his hair.
“It’s ok baby. I'm here.” I whispered as I kissed the top of his sweat drenched golden hair. “I won't let anything happen to you. I've got you now.” Kou cried into my chest for a while before he sat up and took my face in his hands. His mismatched eyes searching mine for any sign of fear or anger.
“Are you sure you aren't hurt?” He whispered. When I shook my head he pulled me into his chest. “God, I'm so sorry Kitten.” I held him back not saying anything and nuzzled my face into his chest. Kou let out a long sigh and relaxed slightly.
“Do you want to talk about it?” I asked, moving my head up to look at his face.
“Oh you know. It was the same ol stuff. No biggie.” He said with fake happiness.
“Kou,” I said, pulling away from him and putting my hands on his shoulders. “Please don't do that fake happy stuff with me. You are safe with me. I won't judge you if you're not ok. I'm your girlfriend and I love you.” I said seriously. His eyes widened at that as if he were shocked.
“You didn't know that before?” I asked. My handsome boyfriend shook his head sadly. “Oh honey. Come here.” I said patting the space of the bed beside me. Kou silently moved sitting with his back against the headboard. He stared straight ahead, his eyes going in and out of focus for a minute before he looked over at me.
“I-I have never had anyone say that to me. Well except my brothers.” He said with a sad smile.
I didn't say anything, just looked at him. I knew how he felt.
“When I was a kid,” I started, “I was moved around a lot. My parents died a few days after I was born and I was passed from foster home to foster home. No family ever wanted to keep me for longer than a month and sometimes it was just for the paycheck.” Isaid. “And the other times they wanted… more… from me. And when they got what they wanted, I was passed on to the next house. I remember I was with this one family, the parents already had 2 kids of their own and decided to foster me. I was crying one night because I had woken up from a nightmare and the mom came bursting into my room and slapped me. She told me i was being too loud and i was ungrateful for the shelter they had given me and that i should pack my bags and get out now. So I did. As I was leaving she told me that I would never amount to anything except a whore.”
I stopped talking for a second to take a breath. Kou had slid his hand into mine and was watching me as I talked. “After that place the foster system didn't really care where I went. Every place got worse than the last and I never had anyone to cry out to at night. So I've never had anyone say that to me before either. But I want you to know that I mean it.” I smiled slightly at him. His face was full of rage and his grip on my hand tightened. I was terrified. Oh shit. I thought, I shouldn't have done that. He probably thinks I'm trying to take his pain and try to beat it. Fuck. What do I do? How do I make this right? Before I could say anything Kou took my chin in his fingers and jerked my face to look at him. His face was full of rage and hatred.
“I’m sorry Kou.” I said as I pulled my chin from his fingers. “I didn't tell you that to make you feel bad for me or anything, I wasn't trying to one up your pain, I just wanted to tell you I understood if you didn't believe me when I said I wont judge you. I'm sorry Kou.” I said sheepishly. I scooted away from him and averted my eyes. Trying to do anything to keep this situation from getting out of control.
“Why are you sorry? I know that’s what you were trying to say. I know you weren't trying to one up me. Please don't be afraid of me, kitten.” He said as he reached to try to pull me back to him. I stiffened for a second and relaxed when I saw the truth of his words in his eyes.
“Is it ok if i ask you about your past?” He asked as he pulled me closer to him. “I just want to know more about your life.”
“I’ll tell you anything you want to know.” I replied. Kou had told me all about his past when I saw the scars on his back.
“Ok. What did they do to you?” he asked. His face was full of worry. “You don't have to tell me that. Sorry that was stupid.”
“No, it wasnt stupid. I don't have a problem talking about it.” I said “Most of the time it was the men who wanted me to touch them and a few times it was both the man and the woman. When I was 8 I stayed with the one couple who had a theater in their basement and told me they were going to have me put on plays for them. I was excited about that. I had always wanted to be in a play. They told me to call them mamma and pappa. One day momma came into my room with a beautiful white dress. She told me to get changed that the play was going to start soon. She was all smiles and radiated happiness, so much so that I forgot to ask what the play was about. She took me downstairs where pappa was waiting. He had a big grin on his face and said are you ready to put on your first play darling? And led me to the stage. There were people everywhere, all men. Pappa told me they were his friends when I asked and I shrugged it off. I got onto the stage and bright lights lit up the stage. I was blinded at first so I didn't see the man come up behind me and grab me with his hand over my mouth. I screamed and he smiled saying how much he loved my scream. He ripped my new dress off with one hand and my underwear was thrown to the side. He put me on the bed that was on the stage and raped me.” I said. Kou sucked in a breath. “After he was finished another guy came up and then it was just one after the other. I don't know how many people did it, but I know I passed out from the pain after the second guy was done. I stayed with them for 6 months. And it was a regular occurrence. Every friday at 6.” I said without any emotion. Kou sucked in his breath again. “After that place I went to different places that wanted different things. Most of them wanted me to sell drugs for them and if I got short changed or some guy ran off without paying I got beat pretty bad. The final house I was at I was chained to the basement wall and whipped because I asked for a drink of water. I ran out of there and never went back to the foster system. They looked for me because I was only 12 when i ran away, but they gave up eventually and declared me dead. That’s when I met my brother Jeremy.” I said happily. “Jermey was an orphan too but he was 16 and had his own place. He invited me to live with him for a while. It wasn't always easy but we made it work. We were so happy.”
“Where is Jeremy now?” Kou asked
“Oh he’s a few towns over. He married my best friend and they had a daughter, Lucy.”
“Do you ever get to see them?”
“Oh every once in a while i'll go check in and tell them im alive, but since i've been here, I haven't seen them as much. That night you caught me sneaking out of the house, I was going to see them.” Kou stayed silent and stared at me with a sad expression. His sweet pink lips curled in a frown and his blue and pink eyes were full of self loathing.
“I know that this won't make up for everything we did to you before, But i am sorry. If I could go back and change it all I would.” He said sadly.
“I know you would Kou. But I’m not mad at you guys. I forgave you a long time ago.” I said truthfully.
“How can you not be mad at us? How do you not hate Us Kora? After everything you went through as a kid, and we treated you just as badly, if not worse.”
“You guys didn't know any better. You were just doing what you thought you had to do. Was it wrong, oh yeah. And there was a point where I hated every one of you, but then when I was told about the plan, things made more sense. Who am I to judge someone for following orders and doing what they believed was right?” I said looking at the wall in front of me. It was covered in pictures of me and Kou from his instagram account. I smiled as I looked at one where we both had big balls of pink cotton candy and were throwing pieces at each other and laughing. The ferris wheel in the back round lights up Kou’s smile casting multi colored orbs over his face and hair. “Plus, how could i stay mad at you all when we have made so many amazing memories together. The one with the cotton candy in particular. That was the night you told me you loved me.” I smiled and looked at a Kou, who was staring at me with his mouth slightly open like he was seeing a strange fish at the aquarium. “What? Why are you looking at me like that?” I chuckled.
“Are you for real? Like are you an actual person or am i dreaming again?” He said with disbelief.
“What? Don’t be stupid” I laughed “This would be a messed up dream. I mean who would ever dream of this” I said as I gestured to myself. Kou smiled and let out a small chuckle.
“Where have you been my whole life,” Kou asked as he took my cheek in one of his hands “I swear you have to be an angel. Only an angel could forgive the monsters who tortured her.” He said smiling at me.
“That or I just have a severe case of Stockholm syndrome.” I laughed. Kou’s face fell at that. “Oh, baby, I’m just kidding.”
“I have to be the luckiest man in the world.” Kou said, his blue eye looking into my green ones, His pink eye was covered by his hair. “I have to be. I never dreamed I would have a woman like you in my life. You have given me a new outlook on life. Before I met you all I was worried about was my career and impressing my fans. But then you came and turned it all upside down. You make me a better man Kora. I mean it. I am so lucky to have such a strong, loving, beautiful and smart woman as my girlfriend. I'll never let you go, and I swear i will never hurt you again.” He said, his eyes glowing with love.
“Ah, don't make promises you can't keep my love. I guarantee you are going to hurt me one day, and I will hurt you. It’s part of being in a relationship. Nothing is perfect.”
“Don't say that kitten. I am the epitome of perfection!” He smiled his chest swelling in mock pride. I laughed and swatted his arm. “I will never let anyone hurt you like that again. I promise. You will never feel that way again.”
“And I promise I won't let anything happen to you again Kou. and I have never broken a promise.” I said pulling him in for a kiss. It started out as a small sweet kiss but became deeper when Kou put his hand behind my head and pulled me on to his lap. I broke our kiss so that I could sweep his hair away from his fake eye. I held his face in my hands.
“I love you Kou.” I said and pressed my forehead against his.
“I love you too Kora.” He smiled back. “Hey, I want to meet Jeremy.” He said sitting up straight. What he said took me by surprise.
“Really?” I asked the surprise clearly in my voice.
“Yes. I do. I want to thank the man who saved the love of my life and meet your best friend and niece. I want to know all parts of your life.” He said with a grin on his face. It fell when he saw my smile falter. “What’s wrong? Do you not want me to meet them?”
“No, I do! I want that very much, it’s just that you won’t be able to meet her.”
“Why not?”
“She’s dead.” I said
“Oh, oh god i'm sorry.” Kou sad
“Don't be. You didn't know. But i really want you to meet Jeremy and Lucy!” I said getting excited again.
“It's a date then,” Kou said, moving off the subject. I could tell he wanted to ask how my best friend died but didn't, which I appreciated very much. “Now then, since you are still on my lap, how about I prove to you how lucky I am?” He grinned. I blushed, but shoved my lips into his as an answer. He took it the way I meant and turned me onto my back, never breaking his kiss. When he did I groaned. He chuckled and moved his hands down my body and kissed along my jawline down to my neck and collarbone. My fingers gripped his hair when he found the spot on my neck that I loved. He smiled and whispered “Found it” against my neck. I let out a small moan when his fangs teased the spot. He kissed the spot and lingered with his lips waiting for my permission to bite.
“Please, bite me Kou.” I whispered in a husky tone to which he groaned and slowly sang his face into my skin. I moaned and arched my back when I heard him moan as he was drinking my blood. Kous hands gripped my waist, Fingers digging into my hip. I squeaked at that and moved my hips closer to his. We pulled his mouth away from my neck, his eyes glazed over with lust and a little bit of blood dripped to his chin. I took my thumb and ran it to his lips and let him lick it clean.
Kou crushed his lips against mine and moaned when I bit his lower lip. One arm supporting him on his elbow, the other slowly, painfully slowly, roamed down to my pale purple pajama shorts. I let out a deep breath when he slipped his fingers under the elastic and began to tease my lower lips.
“Does that feel good kitten?” Kou asked his hot breath on my ear.
“Yes” I moaned. He chuckled and moved my panties to one side. He slipped two of his fingers inside me and kissed me swallowing the moan that came as he started pumping his fingers back and forth, hitting my g spot. When I began to clench my walls he put his thumb on my clit and gently pressed it. I moaned loudly. I could feel him getting harder against my thigh with each moan. I took my hand and gripped his thick member through his pants and panted when he groaned and he ground his hips into my arm. His forehead against mine, he removed his fingers from inside me, making me gasp. He moved my hand from his member and pinned both of my above my head.
“Prepare yourself little Masa- Kitty, I'm about to make you scream my name.” He said moving his face between my legs. With one hand he took off my shorts and pink lace panties. I lifted my legs to his shoulders and put my hands in his hair, working my finger around his gorgeous blond strands. He smiled and his face disappeared between my legs. I moaned and arched my back as he slowly licked between my mounds lips and sucked on my clit. He moaned against me when I gripped his hair tighter, pulling it gently. His tongue was working my clit faster and faster.
“AH- Kou im going to-'' He interrupted me as he shoved his fingers inside me and pumped them against my g spot. The knot in my stomach was getting too much to hold in and I said his name loudly as I came on his face. He eagerly began slurping up my juices. He sat up, wiping his face with his hands.
“That wasn't loud enough Kitten. I guess I'll have to work you harder to get you to scream.” He said with a grin that made me swoon. I sat up and gripped the hem of his shirt, pulling it over his head and threw to a random corner. My tank top joined him in the corner and his pants and boxers followed soon after. He kissed me, his bare chest pressed against mine. I tried to sit up so I could take control but he held me down.
“Tonight I'm going to show YOU how much I love you.” He said in my ear. I squirmed beneath him and I could feel his swollen member twitch against the top of my thigh. Kou moved his hips between mine and settled his member against my opening. I turned my head, showing my neck.
“I want you to bite me when you go in.” I huskily said.
“Your wish is my command Kitten.” His lips latched on to my neck and he bit me as he slid into me. I let out a loud moan. His mouth left my neck as he began to thrust his hips in a steady rhythm. Kou planted a passionate kiss on my lips as he thrusted and moaned on my lips. Our moans were getting louder and he began to thrust harder. My walls tightened on his hard member and he grunted my name.
“Kora, oh my god. You feel so good. You're so wet. Listen. Can you hear your juices soaking me?” I moaned in response to the sound. My back arched higher as I came close to climax and suddenly Kou pulled out of me.
“What, Why?” I complained. A seductive smile played across his face as he lifted my on his lap to straddle him. His legs went straight out and he slammed himself inside me and moved his hips with mine as I rocked back and forth. My arms wrapped tightly around his neck and he wrapped his around my waist.
“Look at -ng- me kitten -uh-.” He demanded it. I obeyed, locking my eyes onto his. My Long black hair fell like a curtain on one side of my face. I flipped it back and Kou gripped a handful of my hair, holding it behind me and slightly pulling. I rocked my hips faster against him and he matched my pace.
“I want you to look me -ng- in the eyes when you come. Oh fuck! Scream my name Kitten. Scream it at the top of your lungs. I want the whole world- ng- to know you are mine!” as the knot in my stomach grew tighter i could feel his member throb inside me and i knew we were both about to climax so i moved my hips faster earning me a loud moan from kou.
“Kou, i'm going to”
“Uh. Me-ng- me too” as i was ordered I screamed his name as i reached ecstasy and he screamed mine just as loud. Panting we separated our sweating chests and kissed until he slowly got up and laid me down and removed himself from me.
He laid down next to me and we both turned on our sides. He stroked my sweaty hair from my face and kissed my forehead..
“I love you Kitten.” He said as he pushed his nose to mine. “Did I prove it?”
“Oh, yes. You proved it. I love you too Kou.” I smiled. His fingers made circles on my back. We talked about nothing for about an hour. Smiling and giggling together. I rolled onto my stomach and sat up.
“Mhm/ I need to take a shower.” I said as I started to get off the bed. Kou followed me off the bed and we grabbed our clothes from the corner and went into the bathroom. Kou turned on the water as I grabbed towels and placed them on the wooden bench next to the shower. I stepped into the shower and Kou stood outside for a second.
“Aren't you coming?” I asked to get my hair wet. My pop star smiled at me and joined me in the shower.
“Yeah, I was just admiring the view.”
“Didn't you just get enough of the view a few minutes ago?” I asked with a small laugh.
“I’ll never get enough of you.” Kou said and kissed me pushing my face under the waterfall shower head. We took our time washing the sweat off of each other and I washed the idols beautiful blonde hair.
“Your hair is so soft!” I said Kou chuckled and shrugged his head into my hands. Enjoying the scalp massage. We finished our shower and dried off. As I headed for the bathroom door, Kou wrapped his arms around me from behind and started kissing my neck.
“Are you already wanting round two?” I giggled.
“No, “ He smiled “I'm just enjoying the way you smell.” He buried his face into my neck and I smiled hugging his arms.
Eventually we made it back to his bedroom and crawled into the bed. I laid my head on his chest and we fell asleep wrapped in each other's arms and neither one of us woke up from a nightmare.

Loss (D.S)
A/N: What is up? Tis I, the magical Hope. Did I schedule this to post really early so I didn’t have to get nervous at the reactions? Yes! But then I was a sucker and wanted to surprise you all with it tonight instead! I’ll have to do format editing tomorrow, but the text will stay the same! I hope everyone has tissues to wipe away their tears of frustration or a pillow to squeeze out their emotions with. Enjoy 😈 -Hope
A year has passed since I revealed to Daniel that I was pregnant. At the time I was 12 weeks along. It had its ups and downs, but our relationship would eventually end. We both would make promises, mistakes, and other things that would eventually lead to our tragic ending. Let me catch you up.
After I told Daniel that I was pregnant, I noticed that his drinking was beginning to slow down a little. The binge drinking, however, has almost completely vanished. He also seems to be taking our relationship more seriously. When I had to deal with morning sickness, he was always there with me. He’s been to every appointment so far. He also carries a picture of our chicken nugget, due to my most frequent craving, with him in his wallet.
“Hey, Jonah! Want to see the little lemon?”
By the time he made his way over to Corbyn, I was getting a bit embarrassed. But Daniel wasn't; he would run like a mad man for the baby. Maybe that's what caused him to break.
His little fruit names kept going for a while. Each new week, little nuggie and I awakened with their new nickname.
“Good morning my little apple.” I giggled as he pressed a kiss to my stomach. I didn't have a bump yet, but it was starting to get obvious that I was pregnant.
“Are you going to change the fruit to match me every week?”
“You bet baby.” Now kissing me on the lips.
Daniels' pride when we found out that we were having a little boy would always make me smile for years and years to come.
“Okay, so you guys are just in luck! Baby is in the perfect position to find out the gender, that is if you want to know today.”
I looked over to Dani and he nodded. “Yes, please.”
“One moment.” I held my breath as the doctor finished looking. She quickly wiped off the gel so I could sit up. “Congratulations on your baby boy!”
I jumped off of the table straight into Dani’s arms. He picked me up gently as I squealed.
“A boy. We’re having a boy.” He whispered.
“Are those tears in your eye Dani?”
“No.” He giggled and quickly wiped his eyes.
So by the time I was seven months, what used to be an old guest bedroom was transformed into a nursery. A neutral grey was painted on the walls. Daniel built a crib, put a few shelves, and I went shopping for little onesies and baby blankets. Two weeks before I turned nine months, the boys showed up with little gifts. Zach got him an elephant, Corbyn had a little astronaut, Jonah was with a cup of coffee, and Jack got him a little guitar. Everything was perfect…. Until my water broke. With the boys still in the house.
After over 7 hours in labor and an extra 15 minutes pushing all 8 pounds and 7 ounces of our baby. Two days later, Daniel and I got to go home with little Alexander Thomas Seavey. And then, after a few months, Daniel went back to his old ways.
After leaving for the evening with an “I’ll be home later.” Daniel did indeed come home later. Daniel dragged his ass home absolutely wasted at 3 am. He was lucky he had tried to sneak in and didn’t wake Alex.
“Where the fuck were you Daniel,” I asked as calmly as I could.
“I told you.” He shrugged. “Out.”
“Whatever. I left a blanket, pillow, and trash can by the couch for you. Good night. Or should I say good morning?” I huffed and went up the stairs. I quickly stopped into the nursery to make sure the baby was sleeping. I would have to get up at six to feed him again and deal with Daniel.
By the next month of this, and one too many “I thought we were past this!” our relationship was tense. We were at Corbyn’s house and letting Alexander hang out with his other favorite uncles.
“I’ll get it! It’s Kora and Alexander!”
“Wow, I’m here too,” Daniel mumbled.
I didn’t get to respond to him because Corbyn opened the door, very quietly.
“Hi Kora, Daniel. Ah, Alex! It’s me. Chev your favorite uncle.”
“Corbyn, don’t tell my son that that’s your name. Please and thank you.”
I smiled at everyone else as we walked through the door.
“Besides.” Zach grinned. “Everyone knows that I’m the favorite uncle!”
“Really, Z? You look like Kora gave birth to you yesterday.”
“Nice one, Jack.” I gave him a fist bump of approval as Zach groaned in the corner.
Within an hour, Corbyn was offering around drinks. I didn’t even bother telling Daniel off. I guess I was just so used to it by now that it didn’t even phase me anymore. Daniel was completely wasted, while almost everyone else had a similar buzz to them. Yes, Zach is underaged but he knows I’ll cut him off if I think he’s had too much to drink. I noticed how Jonah didn’t have a single drink. Yes! Now I have someone to leave my baby with because it’s absolutely not going to be his father in the state he’s in.
“Jonah, can you take the baby? I gotta go to the bathroom.”
“Yeah, all good Kora!”
It was all good until I was on my way back from the bathroom. I heard Daniel’s loud voice which wasn’t a surprise since he was drunk. It was the words he was saying.
“I love her so much.” He smiled. “But I don’t want to be in a relationship… let alone married. I probably would have left but she had my baby four months ago!” He laughed, and I took a step back. No one knew I was around the corner.
“Daniel… that’s pretty messed up.” Jonah frowned and Daniel just laughed some more.
“No. What’s really messed up was I fucked some girl in Maui.”
“Daniel!” Corbyn yelled. “That was like 24 hours after you got married!”
“I was drunk.”
“It’s always that same excuse.” I practically leaped from the corner, the other four boys flinched. Not Daniel. He sat there with a smile as he acknowledged my presence.
“Hey, baby! How long have you-”
“Don’t ‘hey baby’ me, Daniel James! I heard you. A girl? In Maui! Fuck you. I’m taking Alex and we’re going home. You can stay here tonight.”
“Jonah, give me my baby.” He handed over my child with a very apologetic smile on his face.
Daniel didn’t come home the next day, he came home after two. I know Corbyn told him what he said. When Daniel came home, it wasn’t to me. It was to an empty home, mine and Alexander's stuff cleared out. I left two things for Daniel, I left the divorce papers I found in the bottom of his dresser on the dining room table. My name is already signed. Besides the tear-stained papers, was an envelope. Daniel tore it open to find a letter
“Dear Daniel,
I found these in your dresser. So it was true? I’ll text you a time and place to meet up to take your name off of Alex’s birth certificate. I wouldn’t want to burden you.
P.S I hope you enjoy your present.
-Kora”
Left inside of the envelope, was Kora’s engagement and wedding ring.
Daniel hated himself. How could he have been so stupid? He just let the two greatest things slip away from him. And it was all Daniel's fault. Well, him and the alcohol. If only he had listened to Kora. His friends would begin to distance themselves from Daniel. They thought he was stupid as well. And oh would he pay.
Daniel would never get over it. Every woman he would see would remind him of the foolish mistakes, his poor choices that would lead him to his greatest loss.

The Totally Crazy Adventures of the Astro Ambassadors
After they return from their six-month mission in space, Daisy, Daniel and Kora want just a bit of peace and quiet before they are shipped off on another space adventure. But Mack has other plans for them since they are needed for one more short mission. However, things might not go according to plan and without the extraction team, they have to rely on a teleporting device they've never used before.
Chapter 1: Just One More Adventure on AO3 or tumblr
Chapter 2: Welcome to Berhert on AO3 or here ↓
Hey guys! I hope you had a nice week. As promised, here is a chapter 2 of my story. Sorry for any mistakes.
I hope you like it.
It was over sooner than she thought. When the light around them dissipated they were met by a lush green flora surrounding a small square in front of a…palace? Daisy wasn’t sure. The building was definitely huge but it wasn’t overly fancy.
“Welcome to Berhert,” Adlynn said with a friendly smile.
“I will see you to the meeting chamber where you will be joined by the Princess and some of her most trusted advisers,” Brodin informed them and led the way into the palace.
The three agents were looking around with wide eyes drinking in everything around them as they walked down the halls. Daisy also noted the number and positioning of the guards as they passed them on their way.
“Everything is so green,” Kora mumbled quietly. “They have plants everywhere.”
When they reached the meeting chamber, Daisy realized they lost Adlynn somewhere along the way. What a pity. She was starting to like her.
“Please wait here. Princess Daydra will join you shortly,” Brodin instructed them, offering them seats at the table, and then he left.
The trio sat down, Daniel by Daisy’s right hand and Kora by her left, as they looked around the chamber.
“What are we gonna say if they ask about our experiences with other timelines?” Daniel asked, furrowing his eyebrows in thought.
Daisy let out a long sigh. She wasn’t really sure about what to say and what to keep to themselves. Some people might be against time travel or meddling with a timestream. There were two people sitting next to her, people she loved dearly, that were taken out of their respective time period and she didn’t want to risk their lives by revealing too much in case Sagittarians would be enraged by such bold actions.
“I think…I think we could mention our time traveling missions,” she said at last, “but I don’t think it would be a good idea to mention that you two are actually from another time…or timeline for that matter.”
“Alright,” Daniel muttered giving Daisy’s fingers a gentle squeeze.
“How long will the meeting last?” Kora mumbled with her head placed on her folded arms on the table.
“You are always asking the same question, Kora.” Daisy said with an eye-roll. “How am I supposed to know that, I’m not a clairvoyant.”
“I just want to go back to bed,” she whined.
“Did you have a company in it or what? Surely you have to have enough sleep after four days off,” Daisy looked at her sister with interest.
“Just three days off. We spent nearly one whole day being debriefed by Mack and getting the reports ready,” she complained.
“Whatever. You are evading my earlier question? Did you have a company?” Daisy asked her again with a teasing grin and a raised eyebrow.
Kora mumbled something incoherently into her arm.
“What was that?” Daisy demanded, moving closer, her smile growing bigger.
But before she could actually get any coherent answer out of her, they were interrupted by the arrival of four Sagittarians. These were dressed differently from the members of the Royal Guard. Their clothes were more formal. The small group consisted of two men and two women. They remained standing in the doorway without a word of acknowledgment towards the three humans.
Daisy stood up, Daniel and Kora following suit, and was already contemplating speaking to them when a fifth Sagittarian entered the chamber, closely followed by Captain Brodin. This one was dressed in something one could only describe as a dress combined with an armor. Her black locks were falling freely almost to her waist in deep contrast to the fabric of the dress that was of red color. It made her look…royal. There was just one little thing that shocked all three agents. The woman wearing that dress.
“I am truly sorry for the little lie,” she told them while beckoning the rest of the group to have a seat at the table. “I just really wanted to have a peek at your world before we took you to ours.”
“So, I guess your name isn’t Adlynn,” Daisy commented, already knowing the answer.
“No, it is not. I am Princess Daydra. But Adlynn really is Captain Brodin’s second-in-command. I just borrowed her identity for a little while,” the princess explained with a welcoming smile. “Anyway, these are my advisers, Tobis, Desmon,” she motioned her hand towards both male advisers, then moving to the females, “Anahi and Thalira.”
All four of them nodded in greeting before sitting down at the table just across from Daisy, Daniel and Kora. The Princess took a seat in the middle of her advisers and motioned for the humans to sit down, too.
“I have to apologize one more time for not letting you land on our planet the other week. As I said, there was a misunderstanding. The military controlling the landing docks made that decision, not me. They forgot to let me know about your request to land and talk about an alliance,” Daydra explained with a hint of frustration.
Daisy shared a quick look with Daniel. Could it be that Daydra’s uncle made that decision? Did he not want her to meet up with them?
“We understand that…things like that can happen,” Daisy replied cautiously.
“So,” Daydra sighed contently dismissing the subject, “having that resolved, I think we can move to the discussion of our potential alliance. And, of course, our servants will get you anything to drink.”
As on cue, two servants stepped into the room and placed three glasses in front of the agents.
“Water?” Asked one of them.
“Yes, please,” Daniel said and the servants poured the liquid into their glasses. Then they moved to the other side of the table to offer the same for the advisers and the princess.
“With that out of the way,” the Princess announced, “let’s talk.
   ⁂
The meeting was going on for hours. They talked about so many subjects. The Princess was very interested in learning more about humans as well as the trio of humans was interested in Sagittarians. “What is Terra like?” “How many planets belong to your empire?” “For how long have you been exploring space?” “No offense, but does all men have a fin on their head?” (“Kora no!” “It’s alright to be curious. And yes, they do.”) They asked about technology, history, science, religion, politics, and then they slowly shared parts of their own stories, encounters with other alien races, and shared dislike towards some of them. They discussed time travel and multiple timelines or dimensions. With every passing minute, the alliance was becoming more and more real. All three humans warmed up towards the Princess as well as she and her advisers towards the humans.
“Which aliens had Terra the most problems with?” Daydra asked curiously.
“I would say that with the Kree,” Daisy replied, and tried to ignore the shiver that ran along her spine at the mention of them.
“The Kree like to cause problems,” the Princess sighed, “or wars. They even like to meddle with the internal politics of other empires.”
“To destabilize them?” Daniel joined in.
“Mostly. Their spies are very well trained. Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether the person in question is one of your own…or them,” Daydra muttered, a dark look crossing her eyes for a fragment of time but Daniel didn’t miss it.
“Seems like you are talking from an experience,” he commented, leaning forward in his seat.
“Terra is not the only planet that has an issue with them. But let’s move on some lighter topics,” she dismissed the ongoing conversation quickly.
Daniel realized that there has to be more to that. Whatever issue they had with the Kree, it might have been bigger than what Daisy and the team had to deal with in the past. And for some reason, Daydra didn’t want to talk about it. He wanted to ask more because they were about to become allies, therefore they needed to know more about the potential threats. If there was a possibility that their alliance could bring bigger problems with the Kree Empire to Earth, they had the right to know. He was just about to voice his concerns when the door into the meeting chamber flew open and another Sagittarian stormed into the room.
“What is this?!” He yelled unhappily, filling the room with nervous energy.
“Oh, hello to you too, uncle,” Daydra said casually, not even bothering to look his way. “We are just discussing the alliance between us and Terra with their emissaries from S.H.I.E.L.D. You certainly remember them. They stopped by over a week ago.”
“Why wasn’t I informed!” His voice rumbled through the air.
“Why should you be? You are not a leader of this empire. I am,” the princess finally looked at him with authority. “And you weren’t interested in hearing them out last time.”
Daniel shared a nervous glance with Daisy. So that was the ‘misunderstanding’ Daydra was referring to. Her uncle wanted nothing to do with them so he refused to let them land since the military is controlling the landing docks.
“Because I know they have nothing to offer us. They are just a nuisance that brings more problems. Just look at how many threats their planet received in the past years,” he kept talking angrily. Then he suddenly shifted his tone to a curious one. “So small, so insignificant, and yet a target of beings that are far more superior than them. I wonder, what makes them so special.”
Daniel caught how Daisy’s hand grabbed Kora’s under the table as it was starting to glow and whispered to her: “No.”
“They are far more advanced than we thought, uncle. Since you are already here, you may as well join us and see for yourself. But we are making the alliance official,” Daydra informed him sternly.
The man grumbled something angrily under his breath, pulled a chair from under the table and sat down, an unhappy scowl remaining on his face.
“Sorry,” Daydra said towards the agents. “Now, where were we?” She paused for a second, thinking. “Oh, right. I wanted to ask- “
“I heard a rumor,” Daydra’s uncle cut her off rudely, his gaze fixed on his hands. “A rumor about Terrans with superpowers. I thought that must be someone’s drunken fantasy, but…,” he paused and looked straight towards Daisy, “…is it, really?”
Daniel gulped and curled his hand into a fist under the table. He knew he wasn’t feeling anxious about this mission just for nothing.
“It’s true,” Daisy answered matter-of-factly, still holding Kora’s hand.
The advisers started to talk over each other in surprise, worry and excitement. Daydra’s uncle sneered, clearly satisfied. ‘Rumor my ass, he already knew about it,’ Daniel thought.
“Quiet!” The Princess ordered. “So, you really have super-powered individuals. How many?”
“Uh, we don’t know. Some people are just genius inventors and billionaires, some underwent an experimentative treatment, some were in an accident involving a radioactive substance whether it was man-made or alien…and for some…it’s genetic,” Daisy exhaled, trying hard to keep her voice neutral. “One way or another it is hard to know how many powered individuals we have.”
“That is interesting,” Daydra said carefully, “and exciting. Wow. Such a small planet with so much potential.”
“Yeah, the bad guys figured that out, too,” Daisy mumbled grumpily.
“So, Quake is really a Terran?” The Princess asked, leaning forward on her elbows. “I heard some stories but I know better than to believe everything I hear. Mainly when I don’t trust the source,” she added pointedly.
Daisy looked at Daniel anxiously and he moved his hand to grab hers, anchoring her.
“Yes,” she said moving her gaze towards Daydra, “Quake is from Earth.” Daisy paused, deciding what to say next. “As you can see, we are not so…insignificant.” She looked at Daydra’s uncle for a lingering moment.
“I heard Quake is quite dangerous,” he kept looking back at Daisy with an interest and knowing grin.
“Only when provoked,” Daisy let him know with a glare. Daniel smiled proudly.
“I think she’s cool,” Daydra spoke up and everyone turned to her questioningly. She just shrugged. “Anyway, before I was so rudely interrupted, I believe I wanted to ask which alien race did help Terra the most? Who are your best allies?”
“Probably Asgardians. Thor is a part of a group called the Avengers. They consist of different people…powered or not. They protect the Earth as well as S.H.I.E.L.D. does,” Daisy explained. “He helped us a lot and everyone loves him. That’s why we let them all stay after Asgard got destroyed.”
“Huh, so Asgardians now reside on Terra. Interesting,” the Princess said, lost in thought.
When it seemed like no one is going to say anything, Daniel decided to change the subject. “Uhm, the director was really interested in that teleporting device of yours. Could you maybe tell us more about it?”
“Ah! The interstellar and interdimensional teleportation device! That’s really something, isn’t it,” Daydra’s uncle joined the conversation enthusiastically.
Daniel could see how Daydra shot her uncle a warning glare which he seemed to completely ignore and continued, smiling triumphantly.
“Did you know that we hadn’t actually come up with the technology of it? No?” He asked with a raised eyebrow like he was expecting an answer. But he wasn’t, not really. “That is a great story to tell, isn’t it, my dear Daydra?”
“What are you doing?” She demanded keeping her voice level.
“Entertaining our dear guests,” he told her before his focus shifted to the three humans in front of him. “The device is modeled after a really old artifact that somehow came into our possession hundreds of years ago. It was Asgardian,” he whispered mysteriously like he just revealed some huge secret.
The agents shared a surprised look.
“It took us years to understand at least a bit of how it worked and when we did- “
“You stole their tech,” Kora spoke up, cutting him off. Some of the advisers seemed offended by the accusation.
“Which a friend of ours did, too,” Daisy tried to save the situation, looking from Kora to the Princess. “Honestly, we wouldn’t be able to travel through space if we didn’t get our hands on the jump drive from a crashed Confederacy ship. Our scientist then created his own version after he found out how it worked.”
“But Confederacy was destroyed by Chronicoms, right? And the jump drive is the most used tech in the universe for crossing long distances between planets. There’s no harm done in salvaging something from a crashed spaceship,” Kora tried to explain the difference. “Asgardians are still out there and they lost everything. Their planet, their friends and families, their homes, their tech. When they arrived on Earth, their only belongings were the clothes they were currently wearing,” she paused for a moment studying her hands. “I…I know how that feels…and now you say that you have something that belongs to them.”
“We didn’t steal it, Agent Kora,” Daydra was defending their past actions. “We came across it by accident.”
“Maybe, but you had it in your possession for hundreds of years and have never returned it,” Kora pointed out. “That…doesn’t sit well with me.”
Daniel could see the reasoning behind her words.
“And you were withholding the fact that you have powered individuals,” one of the advisers, Tobis, protested. “That does not sit well with us.”
“We would get to that point and tell you,” Daisy said, trying to remain calm.
“Really? Would you?” Daydra’s uncle asked doubtfully. “Then why haven’t you revealed your full identity, Quake?”
At that moment the advisers started to shout over each other in frustration and outrage. Daniel tensed up, looking at Daisy and Kora in alarm, getting ready to bolt if Daisy decided to do so. Then he was hit by a dark thought – they have no way to get off this planet if things go south. Sagittarians brought them here and only they can bring them back to Earth. This was a really stupid idea.
“How did it go this bad this fast?” Daisy mumbled, mostly to herself.
The Princess was trying to calm her advisers down but at that point, it wasn’t very likely. Her uncle on the other hand looked like he was enjoying the scene before him. Leisurely seated in his chair, he wasn’t doing enough to hide that satisfied grin on his face. Daniel was sure he was planning to disrupt the meeting and destroy the chance of alliance from the beginning.
“This,” his voice boomed in the chamber as he stood up, “is exactly what I’ve been telling you all along. My niece is not a good leader to our people. Just look at her reckless decisions. Allying us with Terrans? People, who can’t even be honest and who send a weapon of mass destruction on a diplomatic visit!”
“I beg your pardon!” Daisy raised her voice, offended.
“Augus is right!” Desmon called, hitting his fist into the table with force.
“No, he isn’t! This is what he always wanted. To turn our back on Daydra. He’s manipulating us!” Thalira tried to reason with him.
“But he has a point!” Anahi joined in.
“We can’t ally with Terrans!” Tobis spoke up angrily.
“No. No, we can’t. And we can’t let them leave, either. You told them too much,” Daydra’s uncle, Augus, declared.
“Is this a good time to start to panic?” Kora muttered quietly, leaning towards Daisy.
“We have no way to get out of here,” Daniel informed them, his brain running a hundred miles per hour trying to find a solution.
Daisy stood up and so did her two companions. She was staring at something behind the arguing group of Sagittarians. Daydra was talking to Captain Brodin hurriedly, clearly giving him some orders. A minute later he disappeared quietly through the door and she sent a small nod of reassurance towards the three humans.
“Will you really listen to him? The one who is secretly teaming up with our enemies just to have his way?” Daydra spoke to her advisers urgently, before looking over to her uncle. “Did you really think I won’t find out? After all those years?”
“I really didn’t want to be caught in the middle of this,” Daisy groaned, but stayed on high alert, waiting for any signal from the Princess.
“Tell me, uncle, what did the Kree promise you?”
But Augus just sneered at his niece. Then the doors burst open. Ten Sagittarian soldiers marched in and took their place at Augus’s side, waiting for his orders. The trio of agents took a small step back, calculating their chance at getting out of this.
“That doesn’t matter because they will give me even more when I deliver them Quake,” he revealed, sending a quick look towards Daisy. “They have some kind of obsession with her.”
Daniel looked worriedly at her, fighting with his instinct to shield her from danger. She can take care of herself and he would be just getting in her way. But he couldn’t miss the way she paled for a brief second at the mention of Kree.
“What gives you the impression you are going to catch me?” Daisy remarked with a self-conscious smile.
Few things happened in a span of seconds. Augus, with his lopsided grin, motioned for his soldiers to arrest the humans. The side doors flew open. The soldiers started to march towards Daisy, Daniel and Kora. Daisy raised her hand ready to quake them away. Captain Brodin and some of the royal guard came running into the chamber. The three agents finally received a signal from Daydra, who mouthed “run”.
They ran towards the side door where they were met by the Princess and the Captain.
“Follow us,” Daydra spoke and darted through the door. They complied without a second thought, being followed by Captain Brodin, who left his men to deal with the soldiers. However, they didn’t run far. When they turned the corner of the first corridor, they were met by another five soldiers. They immediately raised their guns at the group but didn’t get the chance to fire. Before their fingers pulled the trigger, they were hit by Daisy’s quake which left them flying into a wall.
Daydra turned around to look at Daisy, her mouth open in surprise, and a look of admiration in her eyes. “I really am a fan,” she said.
“Thanks,” Daisy replied with a smile. “So, what now?”
Daydra just motioned to follow her and started down the corridor.
“We are gonna get you home,” she said after a moment of walking. “We can deal with them. I have far more people on my side than my uncle has. I was kind of expecting him to stab me into the back, sooner or later.”
“I don’t want to doubt your decision, but we can help you,” Daisy offered as they neared another corner.
“We can handle this. I still want the alliance between us to happen, so I need you to get home safely,” the Princess paused, cautiously looking around the corner,” so we can discuss it again when things calm down.”
Daisy wanted to protest more but was distracted by a loud banging of boots on the floor of the corridor. She turned around so fast she almost got whiplash. There were almost twenty soldiers coming their way. Kora crouched down, sending a wave of fire along the floor. After the first four soldiers caught ablaze, Daisy sent a quake that knocked another eight. It was like bowling. But in this case, the cones were being replaced by the new ones more quickly as other soldiers poured towards them.
“We’ll hold them off!” Daydra announced readying her gun and checking her daggers. “Go!”
“There’s too much of them,” Daisy protested and caught a movement coming from another corridor. Two guards were coming to help them.
“I mean it, go! Straight ahead, the second corridor to the left,” she paused as she fired at incoming soldiers, while Kora set another two on fire, “and fifth door to the right. You won’t miss it. It’s double doors. When you get there take the teleporting device, it will get you home,” she continued and when Captain and the guards attacked the soldiers, she pulled the agents aside to give them specific instructions how to operate the device. “Good luck,” and with that, she readied her gun again and turned the corner.
Daisy, Daniel and Kora sprinted down the corridor in search of the device. They turned the corner of the second corridor as Daydra told them but as they reached the door four soldiers emerged at the end of the hall.
“Was it the fifth door on the right or the left side?” Daniel asked hurriedly.
“She said it was double doors,” Daisy said as she dismantled the guns of the soldiers with her powers.
“Well, there are two double doors on opposite sides,” Kora observed. “I think it was the left side.”
“Well, it better be ‘cause we won’t reach the other one,” Daisy muttered, seeing as more soldiers joined the fight.
“We are surrounded,” Daniel informed them. “They had to know we’ll come this way.”
Daisy opened the double doors and all three of them stormed inside the room. Daniel closed them quickly as Daisy and Kora hauled a table to block it. Daniel found a metal rod and put it through the handles.
“That’s not gonna hold them for long,” Kora said. “I have an idea.” She jumped on the table and proceeded to melt the door wings together.
“Kora that won’t help. There’s glass in the door. They can break through,” Daisy told her, trying to catch her breath.
“Right,” Kora mumbled sheepishly.
Meanwhile, Daniel inspected the room they found themselves in. It looked almost like some sort of a lab. But it was too clean like it wasn’t used in many years. No tools lying around or anything, really. At the other end of the room, just over one of the workstations was another sliding glass door. He was startled from his thoughts by loud banging on the door behind him.
“We don’t have much time,” Daisy told him, standing close to his side.
“Let’s check there,” he pointed towards the door.
“This really wasn’t how I expected today to go,” Daisy said sadly, walking next to him.
“None of us did,” Daniel noted as he stepped through the door, which opened automatically. “Just another day at S.H.I.E.L.D.” He looked at her with a small smile.
“Yeah,” she sighed, running her hand down her face, before turning around and calling out for Kora to join them. “That’s the device, right?” She pointed towards a sphere-shaped object on the table.
“Looks like it. Although this has a different color,” Daniel remarked, stepping closer to it.
“Maybe they design it in different colors, you know. Sort of like ‘This one is not matching the armor I am wearing today, so let’s take the green one, instead’,” Daisy grinned at Daniel, who smiled back at her.
“Or like ‘This is not matching with the mood I have today so I think we have to fabricate it in black too’,” Kora added, joining the two agents in the small room.
Both Daisy and Daniel shook their heads at the younger agent, amused smiles still playing on their lips. Daisy then picked the device carefully and Daniel and Kora got closer, forming a tight circle. The sphere reacted to her touch and blue lines appeared on it, almost looking like veins.
“So how does it work?” Kora asked curiously. “I wasn’t really listening before.”
Daisy rolled her eyes exasperatedly. “Just think of going home. That’s what Daydra said.”
They were interrupted by a loud crash. The soldiers finally broke through the door. The agents were running out of time.
“Okay, so, now or never,” Daisy said nervously, looking from Daniel to Kora.
“Home?” Kora asked unsure, her voice trembling a little as she could hear the approaching soldiers.
“Home.”
And everything disappeared in the blue light.

hello, for a prompt suggestion perhaps post-inzel possesion reveal scene in s6 where she flips between people, and its fitz being pissed at mack for having choked deke like he did? some protective!bobo? also i love your fic and please keep up the fantastic work
Leo Fitz blinked, and he was in a completely different place than before he closed his eyes.  Izel was standing in front of him, even though she should have died when her space ship blew up.
May, Mack, Piper, Davis and Deke all stepped away from the woman in the middle of their make-shift circle.  When Fitz looked for any other members of their team, he saw Daisy and Yo-Yo in Macks office.
"What happened?"  Fitz raised his hands above his head and looked around at everyone else in the room.  People were losing time lately, he could have done some horrible things while he was blacked out.
"Things don't have to be painful."  Izel said to the agents in front of her.  "They can be so easy.  I just need to know who has the most power."
In a blur, Izel disappeared and Piper rolled her shoulders and took her hand off her side arm.
"You all seem like friends," Izel said with Pipers voice, "so let's be smart about this.  Just give me what I want--"
"--and I'll be on my way."  In another blur, Izel crossed the room and took over Dekes body.  "Easy."  She smiled with his face.
Fitz was snapped from his daze when he say Mack start to move.  He watched in horror as one of his best friends took two steps and clasped both of his hands around Dekes neck.
"No, Mack.  Mack!"  Fitz dropped his arms ran behind his grandson.  "Wait, wait."
"Maybe if I hurt him, she'll come out."  Mack said, not looking anywhere but at Deke.
Izel twisted Dekes face to make him smile.  Fitz had only known this man for a day, but he knew that smile was completely unnatural compared to his other one.
"Does that seem like a good plan, my dear?"  Even Izels version of his voice sounded off, weather it be the endearment or the pacing, it wasn't good.  Then she started making Deke laugh, which had the opposite effect it had at the party held just the night before.
In a pink blur, Dekes chuckle turned to a choke.  His eyes filled with confused fear and the smile fell from his face.
"I can kill any of you at any time I want."  Izel said through Mack, eyeing Deke with disdain.  She turned to face Daisy and Yo-Yo through the office window.  "Why don't you come out and stop me?  What makes you so special?"  Fitz nervously fiddled with his hands as he watched Deke be lifted off the floor slightly, trying to break the grip on his neck.
"Things happen fast, don't they?"  Izel had her own body at that moment.  Mack looked at Izel in confusion, then down at Deke, who he was still choking.
Deke doubled over with a gasp when he was released, falling back into Fitzs arms.  Fitz guided him to the edge of the circle, receiving a firm hand on his shoulder from May as she rushed the two men away from the alien.
"Come on, you need medical."  Fitz said quietly.  Deke coughed and followed him up the first two steps of the metal staircase.  They both froze when they heard the cocking of a gun.
Izel clicked her tongue.  "Bad idea, love."  In less than a second, Piper was pointing the gun at Deke and Fitz on the staircase, then at her own hand.  Then a shot rang out.
"No!  Piper!"  May yelled and took a hesitant step forward.
"No!"  Davis shouted from the top of the stairs.
Piper smiled, the same smile Izel made Deke wear.  "Do you understand yet?  Do you see how things can be much worse?"
"Davis, take the shot."  Mack didn't take his eyes off Piper.
"I can't shoot Piper, Director."  Davis said back.
Piper smiled again, and the next things that happened all took place in a matter of seconds.
Piper ran forward, then dropped to the concrete floor as Izel ejected herself from her body and through May.  May stumbled forward, and Deke made it two steps higher before he was doubling over again from the chill of possession.  Fitz made it a few steps higher, climbing backwards to keep an eye on everything, before he woke up at the top.
As soon as he turned around, he was met with a gun to his face.  Davis jumped off the small balcony, and Mack and Yo-Yo were gone.  Fitz sat heavily on the top step, looking down at all the carnage.  He only had a moments rest before Deke sprung into action and grabbed a first aid kit and started wrapping Pipers hand with gauze.
Fitz took that as his cue to get up and help, too.  With the help of Deke and May, they figured out why Izel needed the monoliths and how Sarge came to exist.
Through all the science talk, Fitz could see the beginnings of a deep purple starting to color Dekes neck, and he felt angry.  At Izel, yes, but also at Mack.  Fitz got to know Deke, and he liked his grandson.  Mack put his hands on Deke and actively tried to choke him.  Fitz didn't like that.
"I'm going to talk to Mack when this is all over."  Fitz muttered to Jemma when Deke left to check on something outside of the lab.
"Why?"  Jemma asked.
"Because he tried to choke Izel out of Deke while you were watching over Sarge."  Fitz sighed and typed a few keys on the keyboard in front of him.  He heard his wife gasp slightly behind him.
"That's what the bruise is?"  Jemma looked up, slightly horrified.  "Why didn't he tell me?"
Fitz sighed.  "I don't know.  I hope we get the chance to talk about it before the next world ending threat comes around."  That actually got Jemma to laugh tiredly.
They did not get the chance to talk about it before the next world ending threat came around, because the Chronicoms attacked the Lighthouse later that day.  Fitz and Jemma had to go to space with Enoch and spend four years inventing time travel and worrying about their friends and family back on Earth.
"Are you still mad at Mack?"  Jemma asked at one point, holding their month old baby and staring out at the stars from the pilots seat.
Fitz looked to his wife, then out to space with a sigh.  "Not at the moment, why?"
Jemma smiled and looked over to him.  "I was just thinking about Deke."  Her smile fell.  "And how we left things."
"Hey," Fitz took her hand in his, "we'll see him again, and we'll make it up to him."
"I hope you're right."  She leaned over and kissed him.  "I told you we would find something magnificent in space."
"Yes, you did."  Fitz smiled into the kiss and smiled down at their baby.
"First Deke, and now Alya."  Jemma sounded slightly giddy.  "It seems like our family was made for the stars."
Fitz smiled.  Their family really was magnificent.
- - -
The time came.  Jemma, Fitz, and Enoch had to go back to save the Earth, Alya in tow.
"I'll see you soon."  Fitz murmured into one last kiss.
"I love you."  Jemmas voice was slightly choked, and he could feel her tears in his beard.
"I love you, too."  Fitz walked into the containment pod and gave his wife one last smile before the door slid closed.  He readied a helmet that used to belong to his grandson in his hands, siding it over his head before saying four words to his daughter:  "I love you, Alya."
Barely a minute passed before the quantum tunnel lights flashed brightly, and he was in the speakeasy.
"Jemma, you did it!"  Fitz almost threw his arms around her, but stopped himself when he saw her shrink away and cling to Dekes arm.  "She doesn't remember me?"
Deke shook his head with a slightly sad look in his eyes.  Fitz sighed, nodded, and pulled his grandson in.
"Ftiz, what--"  Deke froze and hesitantly hugged his grandfather back.
"It's been a while."  Fitz pulled back and smiled.
"Fitz!"  Daisy hugged him from behind.  Fitzs smile widened and he embraced every member of the team.
"I missed you all."  He let go of Yo-Yo.  "And you," he turned around and leveled Mack with a stern look that he had mastered in four years of parenthood, "you tried to choke out my grandson."
Mack frowned in confusion, like he didn't remember putting his hands around Dekes throat.  But, after a few seconds, his eyes flashed with recognition.  "Oh."
"It doesn't matter," Deke cut in, smiling nervously, "it was a long time ago.  And don't we need to stop the Chronicoms?"
Fitz kept his glare focused on Mack for a little longer, just to make sure he knew Fitz was still upset.  Then, he turned away and nodded.  "Where's Kora?"

LOCATION: Palmetto Dorms, Vixen Den  DATE: November 10th TIME: 7:30 AM TRIGGERS: addiction, homophobia, gender stereotypes MENTIONS: @cadxmitchell CLOSED
Ripley awoke the next morning after the game in one of his friend’s dorm rooms with no idea that Cade wouldn’t be there all weekend. He left the game in a rush to go hang out with some of his friends from his Calculus class. They’d talked him, somehow, into attending another party and this time he actually decided to drink something. Ripley hadn’t drank enough to get a headache, but from the groans of his friend, they weren’t so lucky. For a moment he sat there, trying to find some reason to get out of bed early on a Saturday, but struggling to find some reason. He ignored his phone, which somehow was still alive, as it vibrated on his friend’s desk.
“For fuck’s sake, Ripley. Get your phone,” they groaned, covering their head with their pillow.
“Sorry,” he replied and reached up to grab it.
5 voicemails. 25 new text messages.
         What the actual fuck?
Ripley managed to say goodbye to his friend before promising to catch up later and then headed out of the room. The second he closed the door, he pressed play on one of the voicemails.
VOICEMAIL FROM UNKNOWN NUMBER: Hey, Ripley. It’s me, your dad. I know our last conversation didn’t go very well and I’m sorry about that. I wanted to reach out and hopefu…
He didn’t give his father a second to finish, deleting the voicemail before hearing anymore. Ripley was not in any mood to forgive his father. If the man truly wanted forgiveness, he would have come back a long time ago and not insulted Ripley’s interests to his face the second he showed up. Ripley didn’t want to hear the older man’s bullshit, no matter if he was trying to apologize.
VOICEMAIL FROM MOMMA: Ripley? Why aren’t you picking up? We always talk after the game. If you get this, give me a call. I want you to know I’m very proud of you. I know you’re going through a lot and it’s difficult, but you’re doing such a great job and I love you very much. I watched the game and GO FOXES! I still don’t understand Exy, but you mom and I are learning. Anyway, call me when you get a chance. There’s something I want to talk to you about. I love you so much. Bye.
Ripley felt so guilty sometimes after talking to his moms. He somehow always managed to fool them into thinking he was alright when he was really struggling. They didn’t deserve that, but he knew that if they knew he was struggling, they wouldn’t hesitate to move to Palmetto to be closer to him. He didn’t know what he did to deserve such a great set of parents. He just didn’t want them to continue to uproot their lives for him.
VOICEMAIL FROM UNKNOWN NUMBER: Ripley. It’s me again. I…
He pressed the delete button the moment he heard his dad’s voice. He was starting to get angry. Who gave his father the right to contact him? And also, where did he get the number? Ripley hadn’t given it to him when they’d seen each other last. His number had changed several times and only a few people had this current number. A few friends from Blowing Rock, his friends at Palmetto, and his siblings and moms. That was about it. Ripley wondered how his dad had managed to get this number.
VOICEMAIL FROM PIP: Hey little bro. Moms said that you had a game, so I figured I’d call you late. Don’t know what you’re up to, but sorry if I’m interrupting your celebration or something. I was calling to let you know that dad managed to get ahold of me somehow. We talked for a very long time and I ended up inviting him to Thanksgiving, I hope that’s okay. He seemed to think that you don’t want to talk to him and I don’t know if that’s true or not. I gave him your cell phone number, so he’s probably going to call you. I don’t know what happened Rip, but he’s changed. He wants…
Ripley deleted the voicemail before it finished and couldn’t help the anger. Out of all of his siblings, he figured Kora would be the one stupid enough to let dad in. She barely remembered him and had no real reason to hate him. Ripley barely remembered his dad leaving, but Pip had always managed to put a sour taste in his mouth whenever he talked about their dad. It was Pip that made him hate his father and feel anger towards the man that just abandoned him. It was Pip that told him that Marshall Van Sant had sworn he’d never come back, when he’d promised Ripley he’d be back. It was Pip that had become a father figure to Ripley. Pip was the one that introduced Ripley to The X-Files, cryptids, and helped him figure out his love for science. Pip was the first to know Ripley’s sexuality. Pip was the one Ripley went to the first time he’d gotten drunk. Pip was the one that came to every single family visit when he was in rehab. Pip was the sibling Ripley had always looked up to in every situation. But all of that was on the backburner because right now it was Pip that had betrayed him.
VOICEMAIL FROM MOMMA: Ripley. Please call me. Where are you?
His fingers dialed a number. Waiting for the person on the other side to pick up.
“Hello?” the groggy voice at the other end of the phone answered.
         “How could you?” Ripley yelled.
         “What? Ripley?”
“I can’t believe you gave Marshall my number and invited him to Thanksgiving. Do you know what shit I had to deal with when he came to visit me at Palmetto earlier this year? Did you even think to ask me what happened before you just gave him my number?”
         “Ripley… wait… what happened?”
         “He’s homophobic, you fucking idiot!”
         “Well we knew that.”
“And you think it’s a good idea to let him into the house with moms? With me? With Etta? No, Pip. It’s not. He knows I’m pansexual. God, Etta’s partner is non-binary. How could you even invite him?”
“Moms already said he could come.”
“They did what now?” Ripley couldn’t keep the shock out of his voice.
         “Yeah. Listen Rip…”
Ripley didn’t give Pip the chance to answer. He hung up the phone and he dialed his mom’s number. He knew they were probably awake even if it was early for a Saturday. He didn’t wait long before he heard one of his moms pick up the house phone.
“Tell me Pip is lying and you didn’t say yes to Marshall coming to Thanksgiving.”
“He wasn’t supposed to tell you that. We were going to tell you.”
“Mom, please tell me you’re joking. This is some kind of practical joke.”
“Look, I’m not going to say your father is a good guy. He’s far from that, but can’t you give him a chance?”
“I did! He found me here at Palmetto. During parent’s weekend. And you know within the first five minutes of our conversation, he said some really disgusting things about how I’m conducting my life and how you and momma ruined me.”
         “Ripley.”
“No. I don’t want to hear excuses. I want him gone. If he comes to Thanksgiving. I won’t. End of story. I’m not giving him a third chance.”
There was a long pause on the other end of the phone before Ripley heard his mom sigh, “I’m sorry.”
“Have fun without me,” he scoffed and hung up the phone.
Ripley had one more phone call to make. He looked at the missed calls on his phone and found the one his father had called from. He dialed the number and it went straight to voicemail. Typical. He should have figured Marshall would still be asleep, but that wasn’t going to stop Ripley from leaving a voicemail.
“Call this number again and I’m going to block it. But if I hear one bad thing about some fucked up thing you did at Thanksgiving. I won’t hesitate to track you down…” and do what? It wasn’t like Ripley could do anything to hurt him. “You know what… I don’t care. Don’t call me again.”
His mom had already tried to call him back, but Ripley wasn’t in the mood to deal with this anymore. Instead, he turned off his phone and walked back to the Vixen Den, trying to keep his anger at bay. So he was all alone now. Fine. But he could really use a friend. Maybe now he was done avoiding Cade. Ripley needed someone. He walked slowly back to the Den and made his way to his room, which he’d barely slept in all week. He looked to Cade’s side of the room and sighed before figuring his roommate would be back to the room soon enough, which was the thought going through his mind when he spotted the note on his bed. He hadn’t been here since waking up at 6 AM on Friday morning. Ripley quickly read the note and let out a sigh. He’d have to wait. But he turned on his phone to send one text message.
TO CADE: Can we talk when you get back? I need a friend.

Vâkarra and Vaylin-6: Holding the Line
While Vâkarra and Lana are racing to contain or bring down Empress Vaylin once and for all, Alliance troops and the Gravestone fight to give them the time.
The Gravestone pivoted, making a much tighter turn than it was designed for. Koth was grateful to have had Kora working on the ship. She could be a trial, but she was the best he’d ever seen. And, frankly, she was mostly a trial way too often just because she was right and wasn’t afraid to say it. “Have you got them, Shan?” he called. “No need to shout, Koth.” The Omnicannon spat out another blast, destroying the incoming Eternal Fleet ship, but they’d learned their lesson. They were staying too far apart for the arcing blast to catch a second one. They also couldn’t concentrate fire or coordinate as well as they were designed to, so Koth was going to take that as a win. His ship’s armor and shields had been heavily upgraded, but a direct confrontation with the Fleet would still eventually be too much. “Everyone hang on!” The troops on the ground had also come under fire, and he brought the Skytroopers marching on them into range of his weapons. “Fire at will!” Accuracy was difficult with the maneuvers he was putting the ship through. It also wasn’t necessary. Continuous fire from the smaller cannons swept through the Skytrooper position, leaving them in disarray when it wasn’t destroying them outright. The com to the Omnicannon controls chirped and Theron said, “How long do you think we can do this before something breaks?” As he lined up a shot on another of the Fleet’s ships, there was a claxon and flashing red light flooded the command deck. He switched channels. “Kora!” “Yeah, yeah, we’re on it.” She was shouting orders. “”I told you…” “I know, I know! You can yell at me later, if we have one!” “Great! I’ll hold you to that!” He switched back to Theron, who was saying, “About now, then?” “We’ll have it up again soon!” “Three minutes?” He was never going to live that down, was he? “Ask Tora.” Still, he smiled. If Theron could keep a sense of humor about the situation, either they weren’t in as bad a situation as he thought, or Theron was just handling it better. Either way, he couldn’t have the man showing him up, now could he?

do uh, nonfatal explosion, or sprigs
OH MAN…. OKAY…. for reference:
nonfatal explosion = Yuta Asahina from Danganronpa: Another Episode / Ultra Despair Girls, au where i survived the bracelet but down an arm and probably other injuries but the arm is the most notable bECAUSE ITS AN ENTIRE ARM
sprigs = Patrick Sprigs aka Gemini Spark White from Megaman Starforce, mostly canon-compliant but a lot of my memories are from years after the game– i left the echo ridge area to get therapy after the sheer fuckery that was SF1 and me attempting to destroy the world and returned around the time of SF3. i ALSO REALLY HATE ARTHUR “ACE” EOS OR WHATEVER HIS NAME IS I JUST REALLY DONT LIKE HIM :V
1. what was your kin/id’s favourite food?
yuta: anything sweet? or like Anything honestly just. someone stop this gremlin boy
sprigs: i have a specific memory involving neapolitan ice cream sandwich bars that was actually very positive so, that i guess :V
2. name something your kin/id studied!
yuta: i actually dont remember a lot of being pre-despair and i yelled DUMPSTER BOY DOES NOTHING internally so. RIP,
sprigs: psychology! as a hobby, kind of. lots of figuring out what was going on in their mess of a life.
3. a favourite canon area?
yuta: i visited hope’s peak once and it was awesome, everyone was Super Cool and sonia nevermind gave me a spheal named Balbatross
sprigs: i mean obv theres the dream island park, but i also liked wandering around … OH WOW DID I REALLY FORGET THE NAME? [googles] AMAKEN!!! i liked visiting AMAKEN with geo cause he was a Space Nerd and i was also a lowkey space nerd (not as much as i am now lmfao)
4. element associated with your kin/id?
yuta: water? KIND OF IRONIC BUT (my near-death experience / canon death involves trying to swim out of the city of Fuck and exploding bc of the bracelet)
sprigs: lightning! electricity in general tbh. pzap.
5. who have you met from your canon?
yuta: i knew a Whole Lot Of People but they were. really toxic. fml. BUT I KNOW KORA! AND RU!! IN YOUR SYSTEM!!! KORA SCARED ME ONE TIME IN A 7/11
sprigs: IVE ONLY MET ONE OTHER SFKIN i havent talked to them in ages despite being in a discord server with them? theyre like the sweetest geo ever (and i hope i didnt creep them out by my constant whining when i had a sideblog for this ID lmao)
6. things in every day life that remind you of your canon?
yuta: hmmmm not a lot? like specific songs do i guess :0 and sometimes im like I WANT 2 JOG but i dont have the stamina but if im in a strong yuta shift ill be vibrating 24/7 bc i was so physically active in that life
sprigs: ngl sometimes system stuff does? cause. i was a system. a very shitty system but. :V sometimes bickering w/ mae or ink reminds me of talking to rey and i go “aw” for a bit.
7. favourite scents from your canon?
what i tried to say: i dont associate via scent very well
what i almost said: I DONT HAVE A NOSE
8. what weather did your kin/id like the most?
yuta: SUN,,,, lies facedown on the ground and just. photosynthesizes. (towa city was always clouded over and Sinister, i hated it, legit all my memories of towa are just “dark and sad”)
sprigs: mild rainshowers were nice :>
9. what talents/ skills did you have as your kin/id?
yuta: I WANT YUTA TO RUN!!! i think i decided that if i went to hope’s peak i would’ve been SHSL Track Star or something like that. i could also swim which is something i cant do at front :V (edit from after question 12: ALSO CAN WE APPRECIATE THE SELF-GIVEN TITLE OF “SHSL NONFATAL EXPLOSION”)
sprigs: i think i did some sort of fabric crafts thing? not like, knitting, uhhh. SEWING thats the word. i also gardened. shoves my entire arms into the dirt. this is my home

yuta: does the fandom even acknowledge me? i think fandom thinks im a Dumb Idiot and honestly, true though,
sprigs: GOD DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED, NO,
11. what would you have done differently in your canon?
yuta: i mean, not exploding would’ve been nice? asides from that, i wish i’d stayed with komaru more. she had no idea i was alive for a pretty long time and that must’ve sucked. heck.
sprigs: I MEAN , NOT TRY TO DESTROY THE WORLD , also fucking, tell geo what the hell was wrong with me , but it was kind of a hard position to be in? bc rey was literally a trauma split from horrific childhood abuse (moreso than was revealed canonically, for me) and i was just a middleschooler. also staying in contact with geo while overseas (the bonus boss in sf2 isnt canon for me) because from his perspective i just dropped off the map bc i was too ashamed to talk to him. ALSO HEY @ SELF DONT FUCKING DESTROY GEO’S TRUST IN EVERYONE, MAYBE,
12. what outfit did you like best in your canon?
yuta: i love my hoodie!! but it got Fucking Wrecked for obvious reasons augh. theres art of Nonfatal Explosion Yuta w/ a NGE shirt that i vaguely remember owning haha

yuta: was near-modern so p much same
sprigs: fashion sense in 22XX makes no sense but like. big ol sweaters. armwarmers. comfy
14. did you have a favourite memory of your canon?
yuta: visiting hope’s peak is the most vivid bc i got to meet all my friends? heck? and i vaguely remember reuniting with komaru and it was great. there were hugs.
sprigs: pretty much any time i was Actually Talking To Geo In A Healthy Way lmfao what the fuck was Up with me

sprigs: noT REALLY,,, like even looking back on it i kep being like. i was such a wreck. literally everything possible went wrong in patrick sprigs’s life. even Good Periods had bad shit happen, like i got outed to everybody by ace? which is like half of why i hate him? it was immensely awful augh

kimocat-art mentioned you on a post “Playtime for Kian though Kora isn’t having a bar of it   (Source)”
@goat-yells-at-everything the AZA certifies organizations all over the world. It's not just for America. Their website says they do their research offsite in Botswana. They're not wild caught but they're still wild animals. Tame animals are still dangerous.
Back on desktop so its easier to find things on various websites. ^^;
The AZA is somewhat international but not totally. For instance, there are no AZA accredited facilities in Australia but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any good facilities in Australia at all. The AZA is America centered but it has begun to branch out to other countries. I dont think its fair to say a facility not accredited by the AZA that is international is inherently bad.
The Wild Cat Conservation Center is mainly a breeding and research facility. They study behavior and needs at the center in Australia as well as provide opportunities for medical research without traveling so far (thus cutting expenses). Their breeding program is exclusively for zoos, to keep the captive population healthy and diverse. The cats need to be comfortable with human interaction in order for zookeepers to safely interact with them so the center has their keepers interacting with cubs from an early age. Not only that but the breeds they focus on tend to be not the best moms in captivity so keeper interaction is often very necessary. Its ironic since the reason they aren’t the best moms is likely BECAUSE of early human interference with cubs ages ago when zoos became a thing in general. I know many programs are trying to let moms keep their cubs more and more and trying to breed females that are good moms but the genetic population is very small so inbreeding is a concern.
As for the public interaction, again, it seems the WCCC is very particular here. A max of 3 people may attend a walk with one or two cats. We can probably argue about this point and I dont totally disagree with you. Wild animals, even captive bred and human raised, are often unpredictable. But the WCCC seems to take extreme precautions to protect guests and animals. They only do the walks twice a day and only 10 a week, at most only 3 people can attend and everyone must be over the age of 16 (and only one booking at a time. ie, you wont have people who dont know each other together), the cats are leashed and controlled by keepers as well as having several keepers per walk. They charge a pretty penny for these tours and make tourists follow a pretty tight number of rules (you cant even take your own pictures. they take them for you. and touching the animals is only allowed by the animals invitation). They use this as a way to get funding for the animals and their research as well to teach the public about these vulnerable cats.
Like I said, we can argue about the interaction level till the cows come home but I dont think we’ll come to a clear agreement either way. I think, if done in a safe way to minimize stress to the animal and safety of the people, limited interactions like this isn’t necessarily bad. The local zoos have a program where they do “birds of prey” shows at schools and the state fair. They bring out hawks and eagles to show and educate people about them. Many of them will allow you to stroke a birds back briefly. I think its a great way to educate people about the animals, especially endangered ones. If the animals feel uncomfortable or stressed, its probably not good they are even AT the show/encounter and good keepers will know who is ok and who is not (the raptor shows tend to bring a dozen birds or more but rarely show more than 3 or 4 in a show in case someone decides they dont want to be on stage as well as giving birds breaks so they aren’t constantly out in the limelight). The WCCC likely has the same standards and evaluate the cats comfort level before each walk.
Like I said, I dont necessarily disagree. A local campground has a petting zoo once a year and last year I finally got to attend. I was not happy with the handlers. They had 2 goats who were CLEARLY now happy to be there, often butting at people’s hands in a way that said “gtfo” and not “lets play” (the “handler” didn’t even know what breed of goat they were!). They had a pair of llamas (or alpacas. i’m not 100% sure) that were also clearly not happy to be there. One refused to let anyone pet it and the other trembled any time a kid came near it. The later let me rub its neck a bit and calmed pretty quickly but (and I dont mean this as a brag or anything at all) I know about these animals and know how to touch them. I’m pretty sure the poor boy had experience with kids yanking on its fur (which any good petting zoo would NOT have allowed to be that long at a showing with kids). I found out later that the one who didn’t want to let anyone touch it actually snapped at a couple kids (and, of course, everyone blamed the ANIMAL and not the HANDLERS). They had a tortoise and a big fluffy rabbit that also didn’t want to have anything to do with the kids wanting to play with them.
(er...sorry this was so long and rambly....I didn’t mean to get so wordy.... ^^; )

Ten Favorite Albums of 2017
Tumblr media
10. Choker - Peak
Thank God I read Pigeons & Planes. I wouldn't have heard about Choker yet if it wasn't for them, but I would have in the next few years when he blows up. As of right now Choker just breached 2,000 followers on Twitter and my friend Pat gets more plays on SoundCloud than he does. I don't know much more about him, on Twitter his name is just "chris" and his Instagram is still MIA. But, in a way this kind of makes his music speak louder. I've gotten so used to hearing a dope track and immediately hunting down the artist's social medias in an effort to learn more about them and find what place this sound is coming from. In Choker's case, there isn't a ton of that. He hasn't actually tweeted since this album dropped, and everything before is just weird memes and 140 character jokes the internet age is so accustomed to. Choker is an artist who leaves everything they need to say in their art rather than effortlessly giving it to the world via iPhone thumb taps. Because of this, Peak benefits from having not much else to place it within context of and shines as a stand alone.
Rather than attacking the classic and conventional ideology of songwriting, Choker's Peak is full of "Is this the hook? Wait it's a verse. But when does the hook come back in?"  type moments. It relies more on nature and what feels right, rather than structure and repetition. This isn't a bad thing at all, and is pretty hard to accomplish without sounding messy. Names like Frank Ocean, Sufjan Stevens, Björk all take similar approaches to their sound, and you're definitely in good company if mentioned in the same thought as them. Choker's lyricism isn't always literal and mostly seems is used to paint a mood. Lines like "I see in Portra 400 // Mazzy Star pour out the function" giving both a visual and auditory representation of where he at. El Dorado, is an entire song about getting caught stealing a car and all the romantic memories shared within that car. Choker takes this simple plot and expands it into a four minute masterpiece of shimmering guitars, subtle 808s, and layers of vocals. His quick steps from singing to rapping are hard to keep tabs on, with this song having a four bar rap verse before switching back to singing. Hats aren't even introduced until the last 30 seconds. It's just this constant picking up and dropping Choker performs so easily that leaves you hungry for more of what was and anticipating what's to come.
Produced and written entirely by Choker, the instrumentals and vocals are gold. On Sunflower, Choker introduces with a shoegaze-esque minimal track, cuts that with distortion and a vocal sample and drops it into this portion of the song that feels very Weeknd-y, with harmonization, hi hats, and synths you'd find on the boss level of a PS2 game. After 30 seconds of that, he begins yelling trap adlibs across this pretty beat that consists of only a rhodes and lo-fi percussion. There's just no telling what could happen next, but it all fits so perfectly together. The entire album is like your life flashing before your eyes, or thinking back on good memories.
Favorite Tracks: Moksha, El Dorado, Sunflower

9. Sampha - Process
It's a slim amount of vocalists who pack as much emotion into their voice as Sampha Sisay. Even without the context and knowledge of Sampha's struggles, you'd still connect with the fear and pain behind his lyrics. But on Process, Sampha opens up more about the caretaking and loss of his mother to cancer, becoming distant with his brother, and discovering a painful and suspicious lump in his throat.
What's that meme where it's like a picture of two things and the caption is "Name a more iconic duo"? Anyway, the only acceptable version of that meme is Sampha and his keyboard. Many moments throughout this album are simply just Sampha and a piano or synth, and it never feels lacking. But with the same amount of ease he runs through a minimal track; he can embrace maximalist production as well. Process sort of carries an all or nothing mentality, with tracks that are bare bones and others oozing boundless energy. I was lucky enough to catch Sampha at Lollapalooza (my favorite performance of the weekend, by the way), and in one moment he was jumping around like a trap artist to Blood On Me then performing tear-worthy vocals to (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano. The fashion of Process is very best of both worlds, and Sampha has this down to a tee. All of this topped with A+ songwriting and  production, there aren't many reasons to be anti-Process.
Within a brief 40 minutes, Sampha doesn’t waste a second trekking through his journey. Kind of random, but Sampha is one of two people to have worked with Kanye West, Drake, and Frank Ocean. The only other person is Jay Z. I feel like that just warrants some sort of legendary artistry validity, if Process itself hadn't already.
If you enjoy this album you should really read his FADER cover story. One of my favorite ever and includes an acoustic version of Plastic 100°C.
Favorite Tracks: Kora Sings, (No One Knows Me) Like the Piano, What Shouldn’t I Be?
Tumblr media
8. Cosmo Pyke - Just Cosmo
Yeah, the album is only five tracks and there's nothing super groundbreaking or innovative, but for some reason I just love it. It's not even like a rare sound that's explored or something experimental or whatever. It's just a bunch of super fun and catchy tunes and sometimes that's all you really want from music. I haven't deep dived into the lyrics for an intricate emotional and metaphoric tale, and I really doubt there's much like that in here. Sometimes all you want from music is for it to sonically feel right and Just Cosmo does all of that for me.
Cosmo's sound radiates a youthful aura very specific to London. He taste tests a handful of genres throughout the album, matching his guitar to that loose jangly sound very popular in today's indie rock, with drums and percussion that lean towards jazz that's dipping its toes into samba. He vibes to reggae on the bridge of Chronic Sunshine, and builds and drops speeds on Wish You Were Gone. All the tracks on Just Cosmo nearly touch or exceed the five minute mark, letting Cosmo fully exercise all thoughts he has upon a song without letting the listener become overwhelmed. The closer, Great Dane, even clocks up to 8 minutes without feeling like too much to bear. Stress and other grim thoughts are the last thing on your mind while listening to Just Cosmo, because it's the soundtrack to a Sunday bike ride to get ice cream with your friends. It's the album you put on during the 2PM pool party. It's music you couldn't possibly be upset to.
There's not a ton to be said about an album that is very inexplicably awesome to me. The album doesn't do the undoable or break through walls or anything, but the sound it does have is very genuine and true. It sounds just like an album a 2017 kid from Peckham would make who has an interest in synths, guitars, and great music.
Favorite Tracks: Wish You Were Gone, Chronic Sunshine, Great Dane
Tumblr media
7. Thundercat - Drunk
Thundercat doesn't play the bass, the bass plays Thundercat. The licks are so stank face worthy, and every riff turns you into a bobblehead. On every song you're faced with infectious basslines accompanied with melodic falsettos all courtesy of one man. The man behind Thundercat, real name Stephen Bruner, appears as a writer and producer on all tracks with help from just a few select others. He's one of those guys that you've heard, but didn't know you were listening to. Bruner's worked with contemporary greats such as Flying Lotus, Childish Gambino, Mac Miller, N*E*R*D, and most notably had a massive hand in Kendrick Lamar's To Pimp A Butterfly, supplying background vocals and tasteful E-bass front to back of that project. Being such a monumental figure in one of the decade's greatest albums, it makes total sense that his first album back since that hot run is spectacular as it is.
Bruner's depressive realistic, yet humorous, outlook on things is expressed all across Drunk. I remember reading or seeing in an interview that he titled the album "Drunk" because its often how he feels going about life. Being confused by existence and his nihilistic treatment of things. A lot of the tracks on the album are about very humdrum experiences in the day to day. One of Bruner's more fleshed out songs on Drunk is A Fan's Mail (Tron Song II) which is just all about how cool he thinks it would be to become a cat. Another, Tokyo, describing the many activities he takes part of while spending time in Japan's capital city. With all these songs about mundane pasttimes and average thoughts, the album lyrically feels like a very transparent look into Bruner's mind. While all of this is taking place, behind it all is some of the year's greatest production. With Bruner ripping enchanting bass riffs and fills throughout the entirety of the project, it sounds like he's exorcising the thing of demons at points. Drunk is appropriately sprinkled with funky synths and keys, with even Michael McDonald playing keys on Show You The Way, a track he also sings on with Kenny Loggins. Other producers involved are legendary EDM producer and DJ Flying Lotus appearing on more than half the tracks and Sounwave of TDE fame.
I actually almost made my senior quote ""I Am Crazy" -Thundercat" after the track on this album, where in the 25 second song he begins feeling nostalgic, then questions his memory thinking maybe things weren't as great as they appear to be in his faded mind. Myself, and I'm guessing most other people, often feel this way about a lot of things. It's a reminder that if you're feeling down in the now, wishing you were back in the good old days is pretty useless because not only is that impossible, chances are things were just as crummy as they were back then as well. It's a sentiment that helps being positive today which I just think is a valuable thought to keep in your head.

6. Rostam - Half-Light
After announcing his departure from Vampire Weekend, Rostam Batmanglij wasted no time on getting back to work. After a few collaborations with modern-day heavyweights Frank Ocean, Solange, and Haim, the multi-instrumentalist released his debut album Half-Light. Slim of features and help on production, this is a body of songs Rostam can rightfully call his own.
Sonically, the album rings all whistles and dings all bells. Hopping from a very acoustic I Will See You Again, to a very left-field Hold You, which is doused in hip-hop percussion and vocal effects that meet each other somewhere between James Blake and Pollari. I'd be interested in hearing a full-blown rap production from Rostam, as at some points throughout the album the thought is definitely teased but is never actually blossomed. From all aspects as a songwriter, Rostam's sound is hard to translate into words. It's certainly a separation from his work with Vampire Weekend, but not too distant of a cousin to render it completely unfamiliar. On Rudy, he emulates third-wave ska, then throws in this beautiful crash of horns for the breakdown. At first, the way each song is formatted seems so aimless and free flowing, but after repeated listens this is clearly an intentional and precisely made decision by Rostam. His voice, absent from Vampire Weekend songs, sounds built just for his production. As a songwriter, he does not lack at all, with songs like Bike Dream and When that could be read as poems.
Although initially saddened by Vampire Weekend losing such an integral member, I am ecstatic about this album. Time and time again Rostam has proved himself and I'm glad this album serves as a landmark of his accomplishments. One of my favorite albums of the year, with the title track especially being one of my favorite songs of the year.

5. Tyler, The Creator - Flower Boy
Tyler, The Creator changed my life. I would be lying if I said the way I lead my life is not somewhat thanks to this man whom I’ve never actually met. I spent most of the end of middle school and beginning of high school citing this guy as my religion and treating his albums as divine and sacred objects. Obviously, I'm still a massive fan and while my level of stan-dom is not quite at the level of "maniacal fan girl", I was still ridiculously excited for this album. Having spent days sunrise to sundown with Bastard, Goblin, Wolf, and Cherry Bomb in rotation, it's pretty clear that this is the album Tyler had always wanted to make. Even in 2009 there were neo soul 7th and 9th chords snuck into his raps about violent crimes. This guy always wanted to make a full blown jazz or pop album but really just lacked the technical ability and resources to do so. Finally, on Flower Boy, the creator finally fulfills the prophecy.
I don't think anyone has been able to pair booming and explosive percussion with breezy and swaying guitars as sophisticated as Tyler can. The drums hitting in Where This Flower Blooms after 45 seconds of strings, piano, and Frank Ocean's oh so sexy voice, is one of the hardest moments of the year. This contrast shows up a lot throughout the album. See You Again is led by these angelic harmonies by shared between Tyler and frequent collaborator Kali Uchis, and then you're just dropped off into this fiery abyss of 808s and laser gun-esque synths. One of my favorite tracks on the album is Boredom, which is 5 minutes of chilling by the pool relaxation. Immediately after that song you're slammed by production that is just so unnecessarily hype on I Ain't Got Time. This juxtaposition is so hard to perfect but so damn sweet once done correctly.
There's nothing wrong with Tyler's leathery voice smeared on top of his phat beats, but majority of my appreciation for him and this album specifically is for his production. Which is why I've always been a huge fan and never minded when Tyler enlisted features all over the place. The only place the names Rex Orange County, Jaden Smith, and Roy Ayers make sense together is when you're talking about a Tyler The Creator tracklist. He makes sure everyone brings their A game as well, as I've never really heard a phoned in verse or performance from anyone on a Tyler song. On Flower Boy, the places where Tyler does rap or sing, it never feels like its just to make the song longer as it did occasionally on previous works. Bar by bar Tyler is saying something with meaning which I think is something he's improved on a lot since Wolf and Cherry Bomb especially. All songs on Flower Boy fit a theme or concept and together those songs as an album are even better.
If I wasn't wearing such rose tinted goggles while looking back at them, I'd probably say this is Tyler, The Creator's best album. Even with them on its a pretty close race. This album is just so good and so Tyler with the dumb evilness of Who Dat Boy to the glossy and shiny groove of 911. Flower Boy is a soundtrack to make memories to and even with the inexcusable amount of times I've heard this guy's barking deep voice I don't think I'll ever want to hit skip on a track of his.

4. Jay-Z - 4:44
It's hard not to crack a smile when Jay-Z raps about his money. Sure you hear Young Thug or 21 Savage rap about dropping bands at the club, but with Shawn Carter's net worth nearing the ten figure mark, there aren't really any other rappers who are on his level. 4:44 is bedazzled with all sorts of ridiculous flexes. Verse two of The Story of O.J. specifically emphasizes this with him spitting "Fuck livin' rich and dyin' broke // I bought some artwork for one million // Two years later, that shit worth two million // Few years later, that shit worth eight million // I can't wait to give this shit to my children". Stunting about investing is next level, and it's hard to take any other rapper seriously regarding money knowing Jay Z could buy their life without hesitation.
I think that's where a lot of the beauty lies in 4:44. Jay-Z approaches all subjects on this album with such intimacy and speaks in a manner no one else really can. He relays nostalgia from growing up in the Marcy houses so effortlessly, and touches on struggling with infidelity on the truly moving title track. If haven't seen his Saturday Night Live performance of this track, it's clear this song holds so much weight to him.
The production on 4:44 is seriously masterful. No I.D. absolutely snaps, track after track. As an aspiring producer I seriously reference this album as my bible occasionally. The sample flip of Stevie Wonder on Smile is downright insane, accompanied with one of Jay-Z's best verses ever on the final marathon of lyrics chalks up the song as a highlight of the album. No I.D.'s work on Bam is worthy of note too, taking Sister Nancy's Bam Bam (which you've probably heard flipped in Kanye West's Famous or Lauryn Hill's Lost Ones) and transforms it into this reggaeton banger. And I can't make a write up for this album without showing praise to Marcy Me, which I regard as just a really perfect rap song. It just embodies everything I love about rap music; Jay Z's infectious flows, heartfelt delivery, clever wordplay, and a beat I could loop endlessly. Assistance from The-Dream on the outro of this track just makes this song transcend. This song, and overall 4:44, are the music I look forward to listening to throughout my life.

3. King Krule - The OOZ
Easily whisking from elements of punk, to jazz, then hip-hop, King Krule's distinct cockney accent paired with his loose guitar tones becomes hard to pin to a genre. The OOZ is a very specific collection of sounds that could not possibly belong to another. With poetics stemming from a nimble and fragile place on songs like Slush Puppy or Czech One, to delivery so rude and brash on songs like Half Man Half Shark and Emergency Blimp, King Krule displays all recesses of emotion on his third studio album.
You'll rage and then you'll cry to some of the most beautiful noises you've ever heard with this album. Although King Krule's slurred delivery is occasionally hard to make up, the feeling is easily translated from the wide array of instrumentation used on The OOZ. King Krule has no issue with incorporating sounds not typically associated with each other. On the lead single Dum Surfer, a saxophone and electric guitar share a solo. There are disorienting and whirring synths appearing throughout the entirety of the project, all along other worldly instruments such as vibraphones, marimbas, and bongos.
The album lyrically is cryptic and disassociative. In Lonely Blue the verses act as chapters of a failed relationship and the agony both characters are met with. The language King Krule uses to detail this narrative is often tough to decipher yet so fitting, which sparks imagery I've really only ever felt with a slim number of great artists. On A Slide In (New Drugs), the protagonist is sickly self-described as someone with bleached skin and bleeding gums. The pictures painted with these words are usually bleak, cold, and occasionally dystopian.
Clocking in at an hour and six minutes, every single song hits for me and nothing feels like filler. The closer is gorgeous and the album couldn't complete in a more perfect way. Being so cohesive its hard not to let the rest of the project ring out once you start playing a song that's mid tracklist. It's just one of those albums you'd have a hard time disputing someone who thinks is a perfect album because of its pure artistic ambition and execution. The OOZ is one of my favorite projects of the year, and hasn't left my rotation since the day it came out.

2. IGLOOGHOST - Neō Wax Bloom
If Pale Eyes is like the boarding and lift of a roller coaster, then the rest of the 38 minutes in the album is a non-stop, accelerating, descension. I don't even want to begin to think about how this album was made, it's filled to the brim with eclectic but meticulously chosen sounds. Neō Wax Bloom is like straight auditory adrenaline, with each track being a different flavor of a rush.
This album is fucking nuts. I already had a lot to say about it in my New Music Monday review of it, but at the time I certainly could not have digested how spectacular Neō Wax Bloom is. It's seriously a portal into another realm or dimension, I've truly never heard anything like this album before. When I heard the saxophone layered on top of the gigantically paced Super Ink Burst for the first time, I knew this was one of the best albums of the year. And I was only a few minutes into the album. The album doesn't doesn't decrease in quality at all from the already majestic opening and I think White Gum is the most impressive technical achievement in sound of 2017. That song makes me feel like I just mainlined the cocaine from Kate Moss's personal stash and I'm ready to ride an elephant into warfare. The programming involved in IGLOOGHOST's debut album is literally insane, because I actually don't think you could be mentally right in the head to accomplish what is done here. There are essentially no loops throughout the entire album with a new layer or interval being inaugurated every bar.
I referenced it in my review, but no one describes the album better than its producer himself. "MY FIRST ALBUM ‘NEŌ WAX BLOOM’ IS OUT NOW! A MULTICOLOR HYPERSPEED OPERA ABOUT LITTLE GLOWING BEINGS MADE OF GUM." the self-proclaimed "11YR OL MALE BOY" announces via Twitter. Neō Wax Bloom is one of the few times I've experienced an artist build a world with their music, with the album being its soundtrack. I really, really, really recommend you listen to this album because the first listen is the closest you can get to seeing a new color or leaving this universe.

1. BROCKHAMPTON - SATURATION Trilogy
When I look back at 2017, it'll be hard to not be reminded of BROCKHAMPTON. In March, I saw Kevin Abstract live on his solo tour for American Boyfriend the same day he dropped the Runner short film. In May they took over the internet by dropping a single every week for five weeks building anticipation for their debut album SATURATION. In June it dropped, with worldwide acclaim leaving everyone wondering who gave these boys are. In July I binge watched all the episodes of American Boyband which documented Kevin's tour. In August they ruled again with five more singles and another album. In September I saw them live in one of the best concerts I've ever been to (catch me in the green hoodie at about 2:42). In December they ended their wild streak by dropping the closer to the SATURATION era, SATURATION III.
I know it's kinda cheating including all three as one, but I didn't really feel like writing a Top 10 with 30% of the albums being by BROCKHAMPTON. I've never done it, but if listened to back to back to back I think the trilogy would equate greater than the sum of its parts. It's held together thematically by the SKITs, SCENEs, and CINEMAs, and while all members of the group grow and progress, they still hold onto that SATURATION sound they came out with in June. Most of that SATURATION sound is thanks to the group's producers, Romil Hemnani and Q3 (Jabari Manwa & Kiko Merley), with Romil handling production on almost every single song. Listening to SATURATION I then SATURATION III, it's so obvious there's a gap between the two, but it's still so obviously BROCKHAMPTON it's incredible one could grow so much yet manage to not stray at all. This development isn't limited to the producers, but with the vocalists, specifically Matt Champion, JOBA, and Merlyn Wood stepping it up as well.
"I got pipe dreams of crack rocks and stripper poles." would be a hell of an opening line for a book that won the Coretta Scott King award. But it's the first thing heard on this trilogy, spat by Ameer's grizzly voice over Romil's intimidating basslines. The run of tracks after that is ridiculous. STAR, featuring production only from Jabari Manwa, is just stupid phat. Over those thick, booming grooves, Dom, Ameer, and Kevin all spit 16s about celebrities. The weird combo of such a hard beat paired with lines so goofy yet delivered seriously is just epic. Even though SATURATION II is my least favorite of the three, it'd still be one of my favorite albums of the year if just released by itself. The opening verse from Kevin on GUMMY kinda sets the table for the entire album. Matt's hyperspeed flow on JELLO is so unreal I actually thought they just sped it up until I experienced it live. You could throw SWEET on loop forever and never get sick of it. After all this I didn't know if BROCKHAMPTON had it in them again for a third record, but they really came through the hardest with the SATURATION finale. Romil's production demolished all expectations I had for SATURATION III, with beats sounding like they should have came from a hip-hop veteran, rather than a 22-year-old. JOHNNY, BLEACH, SISTER, RENTAL, are really perfect and are some of the best tracks the boyband has ever put out.
A lot of personal appeal to BROCKHAMPTON for me is that list of reasons you can't accomplish what BROCKHAMPTON is doing is short. I own pretty much the same camera all their videos are shot on, and I've stumbled upon random drumkits online that have sounds Romil has used. This DIY approach to music is so inspiring and having their product result in all sorts of praise is something really cool. I've met all the members of the boyband and they're just weird awkward kids who got to tour the nation cuz of their art. These are guys I could have went to High School with and I wouldn't have been surprised. But what is surprising is the music, films, clothing, and whatever else these guys decide to get into next. I'd get BROCKHAMPTON health insurance if it was offered. Time after time this collective has brought it, and I don't doubt that next year I'll be talking just as high about TEAM EFFORT as I do about SATURATION.
