I laugh like me again, she laughs like you.
Tumblr media
Crow is quiet when she approaches. Her eyes are concerned. It's rare to see Faolan without her helmet. It's even rarer to see her look this... disheveled. Her eyes, normally so bright and full of light, eyes like a stormy sky, are downcast, dark. The only light in her eyes was the Void twinning around her pupil, granting her a second sight, Truesight, she calls it.
She falls down on the bench beside him. Her hair is a mess, dirt and gunsmoke smudge her face. The white X across her face, her beloved warpaint, has been rubbed off in places. She's really out of it. The Nightmares took a real toll on her, huh? Maybe now isn't the time to do this... maybe another ti-
"The nightmare- he's wrong, by the way. I don't blame you for what he did."
OK, so they're doing this now.
"I- didn't think he was right..." Crow says quietly. "Don't lie to me, birdbrain," she looks up at him. God, she looks so tired. There's a triumphant glint in her eyes but she looks exhausted. "You're bad at it. Uldren was too," she chuckles. He flinches the smallest bit, but stops himself from making any visible reaction. Uldren was her friend, she's speaking of him fondly right now... he doesn't want to interrupt that. Some other perspective of who he was, a perspective that isn't how he was a murderer.
"He was?" Crow questions, his tone the kind you use for a scared animal, trying not to scare off this chance for information. Faolan swipes at the bridge of her nose, wiping away some gunpowder. "Oh yeah. Big time. He could keep secrets so well but that pride of his made it so he couldn't lie well. You could always tell, he'd grit his teeth a little bit." She smiles at the memory. Crow smiles at her smiling. "What was I- he... like? Outside of... you know." Faolan sighs. "You don't wanna know about that, Crow. You have the memories. You know what he was like." Crow shakes his head. "I don't want to know how he perceived himself I... I wanna know what he was actually like." Faolan lets out another sigh, a deeper one, and looks up at him. "He was a bastard. There's no two ways around it. Uldren Sov was, pardon my language, he was a cunt. He was a smug motherfucker that thought he knew best and everyone else was a little stupid. He was kinda right about that... as far as it went with me."
"You? Stupid?" He asks, laughing a bit.
"I was a New Light! Greener then you. Real wet behind the ears. Uldren liked to make fun of me for that, but I learned a lot from him. When he wasn't being a piece of shit he was-" she cuts herself off, looking down.
"He was..?" Crow prompts. "He was my friend," Faolan says, quietly, almost... almost reverent. "I trusted him. I looked up to him a bit, I won't lie to you," she says with a half-laugh. Crow looks at her in shock. He had thought she would have hated him. "Hunting him was... the hardest thing I've ever had to do." She finally meets his gaze. She looks like she's on the brink of tears. "Losing Cayde was the worst day of my life. But having to kill my friend? I don't think I'll ever do anything worse than that..." she barely even whispers it.
Crow resists the urge to wipe her tears from her face, it hurts him to see her like this. She should never cry, it's like seeing the sun be blotted out, its horrifying. She should always be smiling and joyful, always be able to be grinning and cracking jokes. He hopes he never sees this again, hopes she never feels anything that makes her cry again, she deserves to be joyful forever.
"I don't... I don't blame him for what happened," she says, finally looking up, wiping away at her own tears. "He wasn't himself, Riven got her claws in him. My Uldren would've said something other than bullshit when I shot him," she says with a choked laughing sob. Crow feels his heart stop for a second. 'My Uldren'... he knows she means nothing by it, nothing besides to say the man she knew but... some part of him, some part of him that holds Uldren's memories feels something intense when she says that.
She looks down at her hands. "You remind me of him, how he was when we were in the field. When he wasn't being a jackass." She looks up at him and smiles so softly. "You aren't the same person, not at all but... you have his face and you have the heart he tried to pretend he didn't have. That means something." She rests her head against the wall, smiling at the ceiling. "It's nice to know that... you're not him but, the best parts of him are still here, in you. The parts I-" she cuts herself off, yawning. "The parts you...?" Crow asks. "The parts of him I respected." She answers. She smiles at him. "You're like... what he could've been." Crow smiles back. "You think so?" She rests her head against the wall again. "I know so. And I think you do too. Now can we be quiet for a bit? I am... so tired." "Of course, of course," he says, hushing himself. "Sleep well, Old Light." "Shut up, Birdbrain," she mumbles, but she's smiling.

2, 7, 21, 24? :]
oooh thank uuu okay im gonna do destiny b/c thats the main one we have in common w/ a large enough fandom for these to be relevant so:
2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
okay so this is an unpopular opinion i think however imo sjur&mara are stone butch/femme & mara exclusively receives!!! i wont die on that hill but i AM correct.
also this is on the d/s side which is separate obvs but i also think they would be into, and imo mara is absolutely not a dom, goddamn that girl has the weight of the entire fucking human race on her scrawny little caffeine-fueled shoulders, i doubt she'd actually want to be in charge during sex too (at least w/ sjur), though im sure she'd pretend she was lol. brat extraordinaire.
7. what character did you begin to hate not because of canon but because how how the fandom acts about them?
asher... im sorry but i simply don't care about that man. only interesting to me as he is in canon which is a horribly bitchy twink who has a great wlw/mlm solidarity bond w/ eris. that post about how every dyke has a fag they are fated to be besties with? that's them. to me. everybody seems to want him to be a sad elf prince or whatever tho.
i thought abt answering cayde or crow but tbh that nathan fillion character archetype activates my fight-or-flight and the Nice-Guy-ification of crow in canon has made me hate him lol.
21. part of canon you think is overhyped
is it cheating to say cayde. im happy we'll see him again but ONLY for ikora's sake that girl deserves closure finally.
also the witness... i simply dont care. this is also bc i am a seth dickinson fan first and destiny fan second but. i Do Not Trust what they are doing with the Light & Dark saga without SD and when the Gardener and Winnower were mentioned in the seasonal cutscene i wanted to fucking bite someone.
24. topic that brings up the most rancid discourse
god u already know what im going to say but god forbid women do anything. *takes mara away from everyone and puts her back on a shelf only SD can reach* i know its not unique to d2 like this happens with any morally gray female character but the stuff about mara is truly some of the most stupid.
and the worst part is it makes it way into shit like destinypedia!!! look at this fucking line from the uldren page it makes me want to kill someone:
"Despite this, Crow is more perceptive than he appears as he was able to see that Mara Sov was attempting to manipulate him just like she would when he was Uldren. As his memory wipe freed him from Mara's psychological conditioning, he sees her for what she really is and thwarts her attempts to regain control of him, and the tunneling device Mara planned to use to groom Crow further becomes infinitely more useful as one of the Young Wolf's many weapons."
tell me you havent read a single fucking lore book without telling me that jesus fucking christ. biting and killing biting and killing biting and killing. oh yeah "wanting to prove yourself to your older* sibling" is the same thing as being groomed. shut the FUCK up.
*i know they are twins. they are not treated like it.

A bunch of Destiny 2 asks for your Guardian OCs
 1.     Where was your guardian raised?
She was raised on the Reef.
2.     What race is your Guardian?
She is Awoken.
3.     What do they look like?
She is 5’9”, long purple hair, emerald, green eyes (that change colors depending on her mood), periwinkle skin color.
4.     Guardian's name?
Seighdra/Seighdee
5.     Defining features?
Her eyes that change color and her long hair (not typically normal for Guardians)
6.     What's their Ghost's name?
Raven
7.     What does their ghost look like?
He is wearing the Dreamer’s Shell right now
8.     How do they view their revival?  Would they rather have stayed dead or be revived?
She fights with herself about her revival.  Life was so much easier when she was just an Awoken.
9.     Guardian's preferred weapon/weapons?
Black Talon, Calus mini tool, New Purpose, Agar’s Scepter (personally, anything tide to Crow or Uldren)
10. Guardian's class?
She can switch between all three classes, but mains Warlock.
11. Guardian's Subclass?
She usually runs Solar, but Void comes in a good second.
12. Does your Guardian hoard weapons and materials or are they picky?
She has a ton of weapons, but she can be picky on what she uses.
 13. Is your Guardian stealthy or "Stealthy"?
She can be when she needs to be.
14. Guardian's views on the different factions? i.e., Eliksni. Hive, Humanity, etc., etc.
She helps the Eliksni in the Last City.  Not a fan of the Hive.  A little tension with Caiatl (you’d have to read my fan fic)
15. Is your Guardian friendly with any of the Eliksni houses?
She helps the House of Light, used to be part of House of Wolves.
16. How do the different factions view the Guardian?
Some like her, some fear her.
17. How old are they?
My Guardian is about 13 Guardian years old, but she is much older than that.
18. Do they remember much of their past life?
She remembers all her past lives.  (Human before Awoken)
19. If your Guardian left behind audio logs like Cayde did after his death, what would they say?  Who would they be addressed to?
She had journals from her previous lives that she still has.  They aren’t addressed to anyone.
20. Is your Guardian jaded and bitter?  Or are they still doggedly determined, after all that's happened?
She has been bitter since her revival because she had remembered her past life, she was determined to get her old life back, but all while being a Vanguard puppet.
21. What do the Vanguard think of them?
The Vanguard thinks she is unstoppable.  They are a bit afraid of her though.
22. What does their Ghost think of them?
Her Ghost loves her but worries about her too.
23. How many exotics do they have?
60 weapons, 129 armor (some are dups, for different stats), 28 Ghosts shells, 21 ships, 27 sparrows
24. When, or if, they die, what will they leave behind?
Someone who was willing to train all who needed it.  One of the most powerful Awoken, and kids, lots of kids
25. If they had a unique exotic piece of gear, what would it be, and what would the flavor text be?
 26. How long did it take them to get to the Last City?
She wanted to go back home, but she knew the love of her life hated Guardians, so she made her way to the Last City from the Reef pretty quick.
 27. What were their first thoughts upon seeing the Traveler for the first time?
She was part of the group that left on the Yang Liwei with her family.  She didn’t really have any good or bad thoughts on the Traveler. Maybe more shock than anything.  I really haven’t written my back story yet on her.
28. Their reaction to Cayde-6's death?  Were they bloodthirsty, hungry for revenge, or tired and grieving after so many already lost?
She was married to Uldren Sov.  Cayde-6 was a good friend, but he was reckless, and she knew it.  Yes, she lost a good friend and mentor, but she also lost her husband.  She was very conflicted about everything.  She wanted justice, not revenge.  She loved Uldren and Cayde both.
29. What did they feel when they lost their Light during the Red War?
She felt lost, like her connection was gone.  She was scared because her family was living on the Tower when it was attacked.  She had no way of getting a hold of them because she didn’t have her Light.  She was a powerful Awoken but losing her Light she lost her connection.
30. If your Guardian lost their Ghost, what would their reaction be?
She would be lost, truly lost.  She and Raven have been through so much.
31. If they died, what would the Last City's reaction be?
Some Guardians might be glad because she was married to Uldren and then Crow.  But I like to think that she left an impression on most that they would mourn her for all the good she did and all the New Lights she helped train.
32. Depending on their Vanguard, what would they think about the Guardian's death?
I think the Vanguard would be devastated because she was their little puppet to do all their dirty work.
33. Guardian's favorite weapon?
Black Talon
34. Guardian's least favorite weapon?
35. ANY SPECIAL GRANADE LAUNCHER
36. Guardian's preferred look?  Are they well known for it?
She doesn’t really have a preferred look.  She has long hair which seems to not be normal for most Guardians, so people know her for that.
37. What ship do they fly and what does Holiday think of it?
Silkivory Vanish is her most used ship, her second used one is Pallas Galliot.  She gave Crow Radiant Accipiter.
38. How is their flying?
Her flying is amazing. She used to be one of Uldren’s Crow fighter pilots.
39. If you had to guess, what faction would you say they've killed the most of?
Hive
40. What was your Guardian before they were a Guardian?  Do they know?
She was an Awoken high Paladin.  She used to be a Crow until the Queen called on her to be at her side.  My Guardian remembered all of her past.  That is why she didn’t go back home for two years. She knew how Uldren felt about Guardians.
41. How long was your Guardian dead for before they were revived?  What age were they revived in?
She had only been dead for a day or two when she was revived.   She was, give or take, 12.8 billion years old.  She was an 18-year-old human before she became Awoken.
42. What does Shaxx think of their fighting and performance in the Crucible?
She’s not one to really do Crucible a lot, she is too busy training New Lights and saving Humanity. But he is very impressed with her fighting (it is my wishful thinking, I suck at Crucible)
43. How loyal are they to the Last City and the Traveler?  What would have to happen to test it?
She has been pretty loyal to the Last City, but there have been times she just wanted to give up. Right now, she is questioning the Traveler and what is up with it.  Why are the Hive granted the Light when they attack the ones who the Traveler protects. Two of her kids have been risen as Guardians and she wonders why they were chosen being they were young children when they died.
44. If your Guardian is the type for it, what's their favorite/preferred method of pranking?
She doesn’t really prank people much.
45. What do other Guardians think of them?
Some people love her, some people hate her.  It goes with the whole married to Uldren thing/he killed Cayde crap.
46. Do they fit their classes stereotypes?
Well, she is book smart, she was also a powerful Human before she was Awoken.  Remember she is all three classes, and she can change freely between all of them at any time.  I’d say she fits Warlock the most, but can fit somewhere into the other two.
47. Are they a no-nonsense get the job done type or a flashy and sarcastic joke cracker type?
I think she can be a little bit of both.
48. Guardian's worst fear?
Losing her family
49. Guardian's favorite food?
Mexican(any)
50. Guardian's favorite location?
Dreaming City, it is home to her.
51. What are your Guardian's views on Gambit?
It passes the time when needed.
You can learn more about my character in Stardust and The Crow

I present to you, the craziest, most outlandish headcanon of them all:
Everyone in Destiny is polyamorous, and it's all one massive polycule with way too much drama.
Operating everyone is some form of 2slgbtqia+
Mara Sov and Spider used to be lovers, and now have a serious feud
Spider is Crow's sugar daddy - but in a toxic way.
Spider is Drifter's sugar daddy - but in a healthy way.
Additionally, Cayde and Petra used to hook up with Spider as a comet partner. Now it's more of a bitter heartache with Cayde dead.
Petra and Uldren used to be lovers, but it didn't end well and now it's painful for her to see him but not him everyday.
Ikora and Cayde were far closer and more romantic than Zavala and Cayde
Zavala and Ikora are good friends who occasionally hate-fuck
Variks, the Exo Stranger, the Drifter and Eris used to hook up on Europa
The Exo Stranger and Variks still hook up and have a very slow burn from friends with benefits to lovers
Eris and Drifter refuse to admit their mutual pining, but go at it like rabbits (both are too afraid to lose others if they admit they care about them)
Drifter and Shaxx have really rough hate sex and it's really the only reason Gambit is still running out of the tower.
Saladin and Shaxx used to be in a romantic quad with Zavala and Saint, but they broke up a long time again
Zavala and Shaxx still go on dates and have a somewhat romantic relationship
Zavala and Saladin are comet partners, and Shaxx accepts this, knowing Zavala loves both of them
Saint hasn't had secondary partners since the breakup - however, he did start to fall for Misraaks
Osiris and Saint are primary partners who enjoy swinging from time to time.
Saint is waiting until Osiris is awake to discuss possibly dating Misraaks
Amanda was the one to help Crow adjust to the strange web of relationships by answering every question while she worked.
Amanda is more of the lost child everyone adopted who loves all her parents - some more than others
Crow sees Osiris and Saint as dads. Crow is not interested in romance right now.
Hawthorne and Ikora have been hooking up behind the bazaar for weeks, but neither sees the need to take it any further.
Misraaks and Variks don't want to put a label on what they are, but Misraaks will sleepover at the bunker once in a while, and the two have screwed on several occasions.
Zavala has found more comfort in Caital ever since the start of their truce, and the two are idiots-to-lovers (where everyone else can see it, but no one's said a thing).
Crow sometimes goes to Drifter with questions because Drifter is also relatively new to all of this... it usually winds up with him playing gambit or buying him takeout.
Ikora is Eris' sugar mommy. It's not really healthy or toxic.
All the Iron Lords used to be together, but since the death of most of them, Saladin and Efrideet have reverted back to friends who drink each other under the table to mourn their lost lovers.
Rahool is aromantic/asexual and wants no part in any of this.
The Postmaster is romantically involved with the sweeper bot between the courtyard and the bazaar.
Banshee and Eva are two old souls falling into love, but more of a platonic love that involves Eva reminding him about what happened yesterday, and Banshee letting her sit with him at his booth just to be closer to everyone.
As for the ghosts? They're just as messed up as their guardians!
If I forgot anyone - let me know! Obviously, this doesn't exclude any canon relationships, but I mostly named the ones that were important to this ridiculous late-night laugh.

Alright I’m just gonna get some personal thoughts out of the way in regards to the newest season week
To start off, I don’t have the season pass. I can’t listen to any of the post-PsiOps lines other than what’s available on YouTube, so there might be additional context that I’m missing that would be obvious to any other player who does actively play. I don’t engage with Destiny content every single week, I play for maybe half a day per week if I’m lucky just cause that’s how my adhd brain works plus real life takes precedence over fictional lives.
That being said, I was indeed angry about Crow’s decision and accidental murder of the Psion. I was looking at things from a certain one of my character’s perspective and saw the potential good being able to actually enter a Hive Lightbearer’s mind and see how exactly the Light affects it in that way, and maybe find out if Savathûn was more directly involved with raising the Lucent Brood than the Traveler/Ghosts are with the Guardians, even if they were kept in a perpetual state of not-dying. Watching previous weeks content, I realize Crow has a lot of empathy for them (hell I do too, I’d love nothing more than for us to have an alliance with the Lucent Brood as well), but I still mainly sided with Saladin in regards to the aftermath. It was a reckless decision that Crow made without anyone else’s knowledge that led to the death of an innocent person. He shouldn’t have done what he did even if it was out of misguided altruism and he now has blood on his hands in his second life.
I don’t know how well I can explain my thoughts or if this just seems like I’m trying to retroactively backtrack so I don’t get torn to pieces by bigger and more popular Destiny blogs on here, but I was never against Crow. I loved his character and arcs in all the seasons leading up to Risen. I still very much enjoy him as a character. I don’t think of him as Uldren, they’re two separate people in my mind, and I’m definitely not a Cayde stan who has advocated for Crow to be killed for the actions done in his past life that he (before Lost) couldn’t even remember. I act and feel a lot of the story through my characters, and Fireteam Phoenix would defend Crow from those kinds of people in a heartbeat. All of them, without question. Which is why it hurts to see phrases like “if you were angry at Crow this week get off my page” and “the people who are angry at Crow for this have always hated him from the beginning.” Not trying to point fingers or direct the blame onto anyone, I’m just saying that it hurt me personally to read those words in the tags after watching the cutscenes when I have always been a fan of Crow.
And I was indeed upset, not only at Crow’s decision but also at the writers for making yet another conflict that will split the already black-and-white reactionary fandom (though, thankfully, this season there’s no obvious strawman for everyone to direct all their hate towards). Personally I think the cutscene after the fact felt a little bit rushed and probably could’ve waited a week to let things fester a bit, but time will tell where this new plot will lead us and what Bungie has in store for everyone at the end of Risen and in the seasons beyond.
Here’s hoping that the writers can stick the landing with this one yet again.

A Hunter’s Comfort
On some level, he has to know. There's no way he couldn't with all the beatings he's taken. He had to know why they killed him.
She knew this. She knew he'd suspect and one day, he'd ask but the question catches her off guard all the same.
"Why don't you hate me, Guardian?"
It comes so suddenly. So raw, so desperate that she nearly fumbles the hand canon she's cleaning when the inquiry fully registers. Her eyes dart to his features, or at least, the emotionless exterior of his mask. His eyes aren't trained on her, but on the ground before him.
He seems to note her lack of response and repeats the question, this time making direct eye contact with her, "Why don't you hate me?"
Her Ghost materializes beside her to try and intercede, "What do you mean—“
"It's a simple question." He returns, studying her features cautiously. "With everything I've done, how can you stand to look at me? How can you care? I—“ he lowers his voice, head shifting back and forth as if sorting through his thoughts. "In my past life, I killed the Hunters' Vanguard - your friend. Your cloak matches the insignia on that gun you're holding," he nods to the Ace of Spades in her lap. "The gun was his, I remember holding it, I—“
She's on her feet in an instant, weapon lain out on the bench as she takes him by the collar of his over shirt and presses him firmly against the wall behind him. There is no malice in her eyes as they seek out the aching sunset in his eyes, but rather they seek to calm, to soothe the storm that wells with panic and fear.
She is so close to him, her chest plate pressed against his and she waits. He seems to understand as he nods slowly, taking a deep breath to ground himself and only then does her vice grip on his shirt ease. She gently cradles his jaw, tilting her head sympathetically and the fight drains from the panicked Hunter. His head sags into her touch as his arms hang uselessly at his sides.
"I'm sorry," he whispers, gaze distant and ashamed until she lifts his head slightly, shaking her head firmly. He stiffens when she pulls him in for firm embrace, arching up onto the balls of her feet to pull him down. His hands settle uncertainly on her back, tentatively returning her hug.
It's only after she gives him a pointed squeeze that he truly relaxes and the tension ebbs from his frame. He gives her a cautious squeeze back and the pat between his shoulder blades is one of approval.
They stay there for a long moment, the Young Wolf soothing his anxiety and he, albeit desperately, clinging to her frame. The HELM is relatively empty and even if it weren't, no one would question her - not if they valued their life. It was no secret amongst Guardians that she was particularly fond of the newest Lightbearer and she didn't entertain even the slightest of jabs at or regarding Crow.
In any respect that matters, he has her full protection and loyalty.
Perhaps, he should know that. She muses, giving him the gentlest of squeezes as he readjusts his hold, winding his arms completely around her and clutching her close.
"Crow," she whispers softly and he stiffens at the sound of her voice - something he's never heard before, "I don't hate you because...you're not him. Uldren Sov is dead, you are not. Remember that, and if the memories become too much - I'm here."
His mask presses against the crook of her neck as she rubs the hood over his head gently, pressing a soft kiss into the fabric as she murmurs.
"I'm here, Little Light, always."

A Series of Firsts, pt. I (Crow x f!guardian)
Rating: T
Summary: First confessions, first drink, first kiss. All in one.
Tumblr media
It was hard to pinpoint the exact moment her perspective shifted. It was one thing to say, when you awake as a guardian, whomever you were in your past life is gone, and another to put it into practice.
Especially when you knew the person that guardian had been in the very recent past.
Especially when you were the reason that person had died.
Of all the things Crow had learned (mostly against his will) about who he was before he awoke to the Light, that was one thing she was glad he had not discovered.
Which was a whole other mess for her mind and her heart to work out. It was hard enough at the start seeing the face of the man who she had hunted, had chased over the stars with hatred in her heart and revenge in her hands. Hands that had fired the Ace of Spades into Uldren Sov until he breathed no more.
Uldren had been proud. Haughty. A prince in his status and his manner.
And now this man who wore his face was hissing at having scorched his fingertips on the crackling campfire after adding a log. He sheepishly blew on them as Glint shook his small chassis with a chiding air.
“I told you to use a smaller log.”
“By all means, show me how it is done, Sparky.”
Glint couldn’t scowl, but the way his edges tightened and he groaned said well enough that he hated the endearment.
“That’s what I thought.” Crow said with a grin, catching her eye as she watched him. The expression softened, his voice lowering, “How’s it coming?”
Right. She was supposed to be mixing up the stew. Pulled from her thoughts, she returned to stirring, mixing packets of dried vegetable and meat rations into the stock that was, in truth, mostly water. It was a typical meal for guardians on the ground. And… well, despite Zavala having learned of Crow’s real identity, it was too risky still to have him walking around the tower.
He’d needed to “get out and stretch his wings” as he called it, and so here she was. Camped out in the EDZ with the Lightbringer formerly known as Uldren Sov. The man she had killed. And now the man she was stupidly, and irreversibly already half in love with.
There had been moments. Lots of moments. Too many moments.
First she’d thought the affection stemmed from the fact he looked up to her. Just another new Lightbearer with an awed respect for the Young Wolf, Hero of the Red War, the “Chosen One”… it wasn’t like she had set out to be any of those things. She had just done what needed to be done. She recalled she told him that once and he had chuckled with such… fondness. His voice pitching low then as it did now or whenever they were alone.
Like their conversations were a secret. His words for her ears alone.
She set the pot over the flame on it’s hanger, noting that despite Glint’s criticisms, the flame was high enough and hot enough to use.
“You seem distracted tonight.” Crow said, letting his hood fall back. Even in the dark his eyes glowed faintly, the color of a sunrise.
She told herself the shiver that ran up and down her arms was from the chill in the air.
“I’ve never been a talker.” She said and settled back down next to him. It was near enough that one of them only had to reach out to touch the other. It would be too obvious to move now, she thought with a silent curse, frowning to herself.
“Is that so?” Crow said, his voice so earnest that for a moment she didn’t realize he was teasing her until she looked up and saw the faint smile on his lips.
Her traitorous heart skipped. Where was her Ghost? For that matter, where was Glint? They had both been here a moment ago.
“I thought… well… I thought maybe you were regretting bringing me along. I can’t say that last shot at the Fallen was my best moment.”
She had nearly forgotten. It was a small skirmish, something she could have easily taken solo. A Captain had swiped in close, nearly taking her arm off with his sword. Crow’s shot had missed, but it had forced the Captain back, giving her enough time to dispatch the Fallen herself. She had been surprised, but hadn’t given it more thought than that.
But now, in the dim light, she could see the same expression on Crow’s face he had worn when he came down from his perch and helped her bandage the shallow wound. It hadn’t been embarrassment, or even quite disappointment… but something else. Something deeper.
“It still saved me a very uncomfortable rez.” She said and the Crow just nodded, his brow pinched slightly as he cast his eyes aside. She turned, tilting her head to try to get back into his line of sight.
“Hey, I mean it. I would have regretted not bringing you along. This is so much better than being off on my own.”
Surprise flashed over his features, a deeper shade of indigo spreading across his cheeks. She suddenly found herself wishing a Taken portal would open up and swallow her whole. She turned away before he could see the same flush spread over her own face.
“… I agree.” Crow said and she risked another look over at him. He was smiling.
“One nice thing about being out of Spider’s lair— well, one of the nice things— I get to see you more often.”
She didn’t know what to say. The silence between them was only broken by the faint chirping of insects, the crackle of the fire and the faint bubbling sound of their dinner. Crow was looking at his hands, fidgeting with his gloves and picking at the fabric.
“Anyway. I appreciate that you humor a kinderguardian like me.” Crow began, his voice tinged with forced humor to hide the deprecation, “Letting me tag along—“
“I like it too.” She said, the words coming out so fast it came out more as “liketoo” than a comprehensive sentence.
The Crow had stopped fidgeting. The insects and the fire were overloading her senses again.
“… I really respect you. As a guardian, as a comrade. And… And I like to think of you as a friend.” Crow continued, “…and I like to think of you.”
He stopped.
“You like to think of me as—?” She prompted, breath held in her lungs.
He smiled, “That’s all. I like to think of you.”
Oh.
Oh.
Crow’s confession had brought a permanent heat to his cheeks, his expression softening as if he were marveling that he managed to even get the words out. She was marveling them too. Or more like, feeling her thoughts collapse inward on themselves like a black hole.
“What... um. What does that mean?” She said, feeling dumb and fumbling and definitely not like someone with the title of “Godslayer”.
“I… “ he began, but whatever it was that had slipped forward was beginning to retreat once more, “…well, I… it’s… just a sentiment I suppose.”
It was now or never.
“I think about you too. Often. A lot. I think about you a lot. And… I know I’m this ‘role model’ and thought of as this untouchable big damn hero and everyone— no. Look. The point is, me too.”
To his credit, the Crow listened to her outburst with quiet attentiveness, even nodding once or twice in understanding.
“It just seems impossible.” He said at last, shrugging slightly, “I can’t imagine why someone like you—”
“Don’t look at the pedestal.” She said, her voice firm, “Just look at me. C’mon, you’ve seen how I eat. I talk in my sleep too, I know I do. I never clean my guns right and I’ve had half a dozen sparrow related rezes because I’m a shitty driver.”
That last one got a laugh.
“So let’s just focus on the win here, yeah? You like me.” She waited until the Crow picked up on the prompt and he nodded, confirming it, “And I like you. Now it’s out there.”
Crow let out a breath that turned into a nervous laugh, “It’s definitely out there.”
When it became apparent neither one of them knew how to go on, there was a soft sigh from somewhere nearby. Glint and her own Ghost glided out from the trees, coming to perch near their guardians.
“And what were you two doing?” Crow said, clearly relieved for a subject change.
“Oh, just— just patrolling.” Glint said hurriedly, earning what could be imagined was a wry look from her own Ghost. He turned that look on her then as if he were exasperated with her for something.
She had a funny feeling why the pair had left them alone.
—-
A day had become a week and then a week had easily fallen into the next. Devrim had even radioed in at one point to tell them to “leave some for the rest of us” after the fourth Fallen patrol they had decimated.
They worked well together, the awkwardness of the night before fading into routine. It surprised her how natural such a foreign concept like touch was to them. A bump on the shoulder with a closed fist, a silent congratulations for a good shot. The brush of their hands when they passed ammo or a water canteen. The touch of his arm, brushing against her own perhaps every thirteenth of a second when they walked too close together.
Even at the campfire they slowly had begun to draw nearer and nearer, their orbit closing in on the other. His, with an innocent like curiosity. Her own interest decidedly less innocent, but also still— cautious. She felt the pull of his light, new and bright. Her own had not shimmered so in a long time… he was naive, young and rash. He needed looking after, not another responsibility. The point driven even further home now by the way he teetered unsteadily even sitting.
Devrim had sent a patrol over to meet them with fresh supplies. One of them being a bottle of something he called “Gulchshine” which, judging by the smell, was maybe only one molecule away from pure ethanol. Crow hadn’t drank since he was revived. Which was the same as saying he’d never drank before at all.
“This is disgusting. I can’t stop drinking it.” Crow said, his voice not so much slurred as it was relaxed. Open and unguarded.
“What is that? Is that lemon? Or is it just my taste buds dying?”
“It… definitely seems like lemon.” She said, giving a tiny sip to the cup in her own hand. There was a citrus like bite beneath the taste of rubbing alcohol, but it was not near sweet or sour enough to mask the bitterness of the clear liquid.
“Like someone whispering the word ‘lemon’ from another room.” Crow murmured and took another sip, a shudder going over him as he swallowed. He brought the bottle to his lips again and with a chuckle, she leaned nearer and said in a soft voice,
“Lemon."
Crow nearly choked on his laugh. It was a nice sound, one she didn’t hear often enough from him.
“That exactly.” He said after he’d caught his breath, turning towards her with a grin. The smile faded at the realization of how close they were. His eyes half-closed and dreamy in their regard as he lifted a hand up to brush back a strand of hair from her face.
She could smell the alcohol on his warm breath, the moss of the greenery around them, the fresh air… could feel the warmth from the Earth beneath them and from his hand on her cheek. She reached out, holding him by the chin to keep him in place as she leaned forward and pressed a kiss, as faint as the sweet taste of citrus, on his lips.
She had not expected to do that. She equally did not expect him to curl his hand behind her head and pull her in, his mouth already open for another kiss which she happily provided. Crow groaned, an involuntary and needful sound.
Desperation. She could taste it in his kiss, in the way he tentatively returned the soft touch of her tongue, inexperienced but so eager to learn. To feel. He craved it in every gasp, every pull of his fingers through her hair. He wanted to be touched— with tenderness, with kindness. His body lit with it, his breathing fast and quick and his touch edging towards rough in its eagerness. Like he couldn’t get close enough. A wanting so strong and so foreign and yet familiar. She felt him struggle with it— with his body knowing vaguely what it wanted but his mind struggling to keep up.
So she guided him. Over and over. Kissing not just his lips but the highpoint of his cheek and the juncture where his jaw met his neck. She let her teeth rasp over his pulse, thready and rapid at his throat and relished in the way he shivered. She wasn’t sure when she had been settled into his lap, only that she enjoyed the way it made her just a fraction taller.
They were wearing too many clothes. She wanted to touch him, to run her hands over every expanse of his skin until he remembered her touch more than he remembered any bullet or beam or weapon that had ever struck him. The sudden movement of her hands to the hem of his shirt had an immediate sobering effect, his body going rigid beneath her.
“… too fast.” She said, nodding half at her self. She let her hands slide back up, resting her arms around his shoulders. Crow swallowed thickly and she repressed the urge to kiss his neck all over again.
“I’ve never— I mean, not that I remember…”
It made perfect sense. His uncertainty mixed with certainty. Moments of lucidness where he no doubt remembered past lovers, past kisses, and then for them to fade like starlight from his grasp. Despite the confession, the Crow didn’t look daunted, his hands still clutching to her waist.
“Do you want to stop?” She asked, shifting her weight back.
“I…“ Crow paused, his pupils blown wide, an eclipse on a sunset sky, “… I just want to touch you. Is… is that okay?”
“That’s okay.” She said, pressing a kiss to his jaw and relishing in the way he relaxed beneath her hands. His arms held her so tightly, their ribs pressed together hard enough for there to be a faint spark of pain. She didn’t care.
His fingers had found a spot beneath her collar, seeking out the soft skin at the nape of her neck. She turned her cheek against his, pressing and rubbing her lips against him more than actually kissing. Crow seemed dazed, a soft hum coming from his throat as she felt his eyelashes brush against her skin, his eyes closing.
“Is everyone this warm?” He asked, unthinking, “Sorry— weird question.”
“Probably has something to do with the Gulchshine.”
She pulled back, placing her hands on either side of his face and noting the warmth radiating from his skin.
“You’re flushed down your neck.” She said, observing the darker blue color that bloomed out over his skin.
“I’m not that drunk.”
She rose an eyebrow.
“I didn’t say I wasn’t drunk, just not that drunk.”
“So is this for me then?”
He didn’t answer, a sputter dying in his throat as he shook his head.
“I lied. I’m drunk.”
She laughed and kissed him again, just to be sure and he breathed into it like she was the very air he needed. An arm around her waist, his hand tangled in her hair, he followed her kiss by kiss, learning his own rhythm and occasionally trying something new. Discovering how he liked to kiss her. How he liked to be kissed back. It felt important. It felt special. These things only heightening the very intimacy of the act.
She’d never felt this way just from kissing someone before. Something she imagined they had in common.
“... if I knew it felt this good, I would have done it a long time ago.”
“You really are drunk.”
He made a questioning noise, his mouth too busy testing out the way she has kissed his neck on her own. He licked a long line up to her jaw. She had definitely not shown him that.
“People are more honest when they are drunk.” She clarified, her words veering towards breathless
“Glitch might have mentioned it.”
At the mention of the ghosts, both guardians froze, eyes drifting to where the two lights were perched, watchful but silent nearby.
They had forgotten they were there.
Oh god they had forgotten they were there.
“Don’t mind us.” Her own Ghost said, voice filled with dry amusement.

angst to cheesy fluff
Tumblr media
"They call me the Crow"
You burst into your small room, which seemed even smaller at the moment, you slammed the door shut and hastily locked it. You turned, your back against the door as you slid down to your knees, your world just got yeeted upside down and back again, your emotions were scrambled.
Uldren, was alive, well- Crow as he said, when you specifically remember ending him yourself "How..?" You breathed, the memories you tried so hard to repress forcing themselves to the surface.
Ace was in your hand, Uldren was already doubled over on the ground from Petra shooting him, his gaze on you as he gave you the ultimatum of your life- kill him or let it go, each both had their own consequences, killing him and you did, would fulfill the vengeance for Cayde-6 and your love would be with you, but letting him go would've resulted in Petra hating you forever and a massive void of guilt in your conscious.
You killed him, your once romantic partner, and yet he stood right in front of you and Osiris, you both saw him with your own eyes, Uldren-..Crow, in new light flesh. Your heart raced, it raced so hard that your chest ached "Hey" Ghost appeared in a flash of blue "(Y/n), look at me" you could barely hear your little light's voice, your eyes felt and sounded like they were stuffed with cotton.
"I know it's a lot to take in..but maybe Spider will shed some light on this, he was bearing his symbol after all" Ghost said, the little robot hovering eye level with you "I can't do that..I can't face him, I can't.." You shook your head, Ghost's shell seemed to droop sadly as he gently rubbed the tip of his shell against your shoulder in a comforting way.
"I'm with you until the end, remember? I was with you when you wielded the darkness and I'll be with you when you face Uldren".
-
Your feet gently hit the ground as you arrived in Thieves' Landing, you dreaded facing the Spider and the black haired Awoken "Take your time, there's no rush and if you want, we can leave" Ghost reassured you, but you shook your head "I..I can do this" you stated, trying to convince yourself at the same time.
You stood at the entrance, eyeing the hallway that once seemed so long but now it was the opposite "You got this, (Y/n)" Ghost said in a gentle tone, you took your first steps inside, your feet felt like they weighed a ton but you kept going. You reached the final hall towards where Spider sat, you could see his large figure at the end, he didn't seem to notice you yet as he conversed with his associates "-Tell them I want that loot" his voice came into hearing range.
You mentally cursed as one of his associates noticed you standing halfways away from them, the Eliksni turned its head to Spider, Spider in turn finally found your form "Ah! Just who I expected to see!" he chuckled loudly "Do come in, (Y/n)!" He beckoned you over, his large figure leaned forward in his seat "I was wondering when you were going to show, little girl" he said in a teasing tone, you felt your eyebrows furrow together "I see you've met my little bird" he referred to Crow as his little bird, you frowned slightly.
"I found him, drifting aimlessly through the reef, looking all sad and alone so I took him in" Spider dramatically waved his hand in front of him "You have to admit even this is better than the fate that awaits him in the Last City, your poor little boyfriend" he sneered, you could hear the smirk in his loud voice. "You have him running around as your goony?" Ghost appeared beside you in brief flash of blue "Hello there, little morsel" you could see Spider basically foaming at the mouth over Ghost's appearance.
"So, you keep him around here, doing your dirty work because of what you say awaits him at the Tower?" Ghost ignored the way Spider seemed to hunger over him "He doesn't really have a choice" you rose a brow "What do you mean?" You spoke, Spider's attention averted back to you. "If he ever strays too far from the nest..boom" he said ominously, you felt every muscle in your body tense "I rigged his Ghost with an explosive that could very easily take them both out" your eyes widened, anger and shock flaring within you "You keep him here like a caged animal..?!" Spider scoffed "More like a caged bird".
"I assume you didn't come to converse with me, did you now, girlie?" Spider said in a low voice, you dreaded what came next "Crow!" Spider said in a firm tone, you eyed the open door to your right, you could hear very faint footsteps coming out "You wanted this, now you can have it" Spider chuckled lowly. You wanted to look away but your mind and body said no, Crow stood in the doorway, your chest constricted, your throat felt like something was lodged inside it, your heart seemed to skip two whole beats "Yes?" Your hands formed tight fists at the sound of his voice, his voice sounded a lot softer and quieter, a huge difference compared to the brash and arrogant tone it used to have "I'd like you to meet someone" Spider gestured to you.
"Oh, hello, we met on the Moon" Crow stared straight into your soul "Well, not officially..you ran away before I could ask your name, which isn't really new to me" you wanted to slap yourself, Spider laughed "My apologies if she seems quiet, little bird, she's very shy" Nope, you wanted to slap Spider instead, but that seemed to shove a whole sentence out of your mouth. "My name is (Y/n) (L/n)..I'm a Guardian of the Last City" You could see Crow's brows knit together for a few seconds in confusion, but his expression changed immediately "I'm glad to be in the presence of another lightbearer" he said in a warm tone. You were trying so hard not to throw your helmet off, jump into his arms and kiss him all over "How about you two, go on a little receive and deliver task for me, hm?" You looked to Spider with a glare in your eye "Alright, if..that's okay with you?" This man, still as thoughtful as ever, you hesitantly nodded.
-
You and Crow walked beside each other in an almost awkward silence, for you anyway "I'm sorry if you noticed my reaction to your name..I just- I just felt like I've heard that before, but I guess that wouldn't make sense because there could be so many other people with the same name but I don't know..yours felt strange to hear" your heart clenched in pain, wanting nothing more than to tell him who you were to him "Guess I just have one of those names" you said in a low voice, almost a whisper "Yeah, I suppose so".
"Do you remember anything about your past life?" Crow asked after a little while of more walking, you glanced at him "A little bit, I think..just my name at least" Crow huffed "You're lucky then, because I can't remember a thing..which is probably good, I guess, what with the way people look at me and treat me, I'm not so sure I want to know who I was at all" Crow seemed to laugh almost sadly.
"It's strange..being rebirthed as a Guardian not knowing who you are when everyone else seems to" you clutched your gun to your chest tighter as you sighed "I can't imagine what you had to go through but..I'm here for you" the words slipped passed your lips before you could process them, Crow smiled warmly at you, your heart leaped. "Thank you, (Y/n)..as am I, it's weird..I feel like I could tell you anything" your mouth opened slightly as if you were about to say something, Crow kept his gaze forward "I think this is it" you and the amnesiac Guardian approached a pile of random cargo, a device Crow was carrying was blinking rapidly "All of this?".
Your hand reached for a box, Crow happened to be reaching for the same one, his large hand covered yours instantly, you tensed as your eyes widened, it was quiet and Crow didn't pull away, neither did you, you glanced at him, but his hair was hiding his face from you, you looked down at your hands as you felt a slight pressure, he seemed to be slowly lacing his fingers with your own "Crow..?" You said, voice barely above a whisper, his hand then firmly held your own.
"Crow" you said again, slightly louder, Crow gasped, his hand and body moving away from yours, Crow held his head between his hands, his eyes tightly shut "Crow..?" Your voice came out in a worried tone, you approached him, you laid your hand on his shoulder and said his name, his eyes burst open and he looked up at you with tear welled amber eyes, he looked so frightened and your heart broke for him.
"Are you alright?" You gently covered his hands with your smaller ones, keeping his gaze on you, his mouth hung open slightly "Cro-" you barely had time to say his name as he lunged forward at you, wrapping his arms around your smaller frame, almost knocking you over- he was hugging you, a surprise but a welcome one, he pulled away after a few moments and stared down at you, your own gaze met his.
"I know why your name sounds so familiar.." He said with a smile on his face "Because it's you, my love.." You froze "You remember..?" You asked in a bewildered tone, Crow pressed his forehead against your helmet "Don't know how I could ever forget you, my forever love" you could feel the biggest smile you ever felt erupt on your lips as you threw yourself at him, Crow laughed and it was music to your ears, tears fell from your eyes as you held him there for what felt like forever but forever was welcome.
"I love you, Uldren.."
"I love you most, (Y/n)".

Thera’s Journal Entry #13
Many things happened today. One... Sagira died. I was saddened by her death as she was a sweet and funny Ghost, and her and I got along very well. Osiris asked for me personally to meet him on the moon so we could hunt down Sagira’s killers. Of course, I went.
Then we have the second thing. When I had finally met up with Osiris, a hive knight jumped down to attack him. Then, a sword impaled the knight. It disappeared, and there behind where it once was, was Uldren Sov, with a Ghost floating beside him. I couldn’t believe it. Out of all people he became a Guardian?
I later learned that he was working with Spider. During Spider’s boasting about how he was oh so kind to not let Uldren (or Crow, which is the name he goes by now) go to the Tower. I knew Spider was right though. If Crow had gone to the Tower he wouldn’t make it. There would be an angry Ikora I was sure, and not only that but a ton of angry Guardians. I knew many who still hadn’t gotten over Cayde’s death, most of them hunters. Zavala wouldn’t be able to hold them back and I don’t even know if he’d try to at all.
I also learned that Spider had done some “modifications” on Crow’s Ghost, Glint. And by modifications, he means that if Crow and Glint go too far, Glint will explode, killing the both of them. That made me angry. I was fine with the Spider before, but now? Now I hated him. How could he dare do such a thing to a Ghost? Especially Glint, who was known as Pulled Pork long before. He was so kind to everyone. I had met him twice. He was so sweet and curious. I understood that the Spider wasn’t sure if Crow was going to be loyal to him or not, but you don’t do that to any Ghost, no matter who’s it is.
Osiris said that we should keep Crow a secret between the both of us. I agreed. Though of course I was going to tell Ann later. I’m sure the girl can keep a secret.
Scout asked me later on my ship how I felt about Uldren returning as a Guardian. I said there wasn’t much to tell. Uldren was Crow now and everything he had done in the past, he didn’t remember. The things that happened, happened, but now that he’s a Guardian, he’s a different person. I could have been a killer before I was resurrected, and wouldn’t even know it.
You can’t condemn a man if he doesn’t even remember what he did to deserve it. I wouldn’t like it very much if there were people that wanted to kill me for something I did before I was a Guardian. Something I couldn’t even remember doing.
Honestly, I had felt sorry for Uldren in the moment when I stood before him with a gun to his head. He had only wanted his sister back. If I’m being brutally honest, I would have done the same just to get Sora and Zane back. In the end though, I did pull the trigger. Whether he did it for his sister, or not, he did kill Cayde, and he had to pay for his crimes somehow.
It’s better this way. Now, perhaps instead of being enemies, the two of us could be friends. The slate had been wiped clean.

What do you think about the crow? I think he's really funny and also super nice. Anyway I cant wait to Sleeper Simulant Spider straight to hell.
i love crow. he and glint deserve better. people point out that he reflects who uldren was before the millennia of manipulation, the black garden and such and i agree (both he and uldren care deeply for the eliksni.. you know. literally such a low bar but they got me). the way crow talks about eliksni wrathborn and how he dreads the idea of not being able to save them really tugs my heart strings bc i wish we could save them too. he talks about eliksni as People and not just bodies like everyone else. yeah.. and i never grew super attached to spider so if something does go wryly for him then i dont think i would be that opposed to it (i dont hate him though, i just dont have any real solid opinions on him oops)

Why Mara Sov Killing Spider is Fucked Up
TW: mentions of abuse
Okay hear me out but what if the seasons displaying more patterns of abuse than we're seeing. Spider, Variks, and Misraaks have been stated to be a former members of the House of Wolves; a House formerly connected to Mara Sov.
Spider left with the reason stated in his destinypedia being that he saw it as a "bad investment". We don't ever get actual context as to why, but we do get the context that the House of Wolves wasn't a good house by far. Mentioned numerous times by its members being bound by fear and loyalty, "Could not understand House Wolves tactics... bad tactics." (Variks), and the fact many were held in the prison of elders later on. Misraaks' backstory also states that he didn't have the greatest upbringing, and during his meeting/capture with Sjur it's repetitively stated that he's terrified of what his mother will do to him when he gets back, going as far as to attempt suicide.
Now, why is this important? This surely wouldn't lead to any patterns of abuse. Aren't both Eliksni who left fine? No! Putting both Misraaks and Spider side by side, comparing them by how it's stated in lore on their treatment of other Eliksni and their houses, there are actually similarities. As stated in the Destinypedia for the House of Spiders "He (Spider) rejects any notion of being a Kell and is an astonishingly generous employer by Fallen standards.". He's the kingpin of the Tangled Shore, and could probably get away with not even feeding his house if he tried, but he doesn't. In fact, he goes as far as to make sure they are taken care of and well-fed. Ring any bells? Misraaks goes as far as asking *the Vanguard* for help to save members of his house from a downed ketch at the beginning of Season of the Splicer. Even though they don't have the best supplies, he does his extraordinary best. Both Houses work with guardians to further their goals, making deals that benefit not just the leaders, but the rest as well. Ie: Misraaks having a home for the House of Light; Spider getting the Scorn off the shore which are the biggest threat to his house.
Signs of abuse are hard to pinpoint and determine, and I’m no psychologist, however, the need to possess and control in ways such as the Spider does don’t typically form naturally. They’re learnt behaviours employed to keep himself safe. Especially with the way that he’s driven to know everything that happens on his shore. Mirsaaks himself personally escorts refugees for the House of Light, as seen in the Season of the Splicer opener, putting himself in direct danger. He even goes as far as to trust Crow when he brings supplies that he stole from the Spider, rather than questioning him, he accepts the supplies and views Spider as an unlikely, but not an entirely unwelcome ally. People who’ve often gone through traumatic experiences, such as the same abusive experience, tend to trust one another far more than expected. This rings true with the way that Misraaks sees Spider as a potential ally, though we can’t see how Spider reacts to this as he doesn’t have any recorded dialogue referring to the House.
How does this relate to Mara Sov and the House of Wolves? Well, we’ve clearly seen through Misraaks’ backstory that the House of Wolves wasn’t a nice House, to begin with. From that, we can infer that Spider probably left on more than just “a bad investment” and potentially could’ve seen an opportunity to get out of an abusive situation. Though there’s something to be said about keeping so close to the Dreaming City, as well as Mara. If this was anyone else, you could write it off as naivete, or perhaps even hopeful stupidity, but Spider knew what he was doing. For a start, the Prison of Elders was nearby, at easy access for him to dispose of anyone who didn’t agree with him. Keeping himself safe in a way he could’ve easily learnt from the House of Wolves. Keeping Mara Sov close could’ve accomplished the same thing; keeping himself safe in learnt behaviour. If he had an alliance with the Queen, there’d be less of a chance of her retaliating or seeing him as a potential threat when the House of Wolves betrayed her. Especially since probably around the time he left, she would’ve been or would eventually become, the Kell of House of Wolves. Having a powerful ally in charge of past abusers - or even more likely; a past abuser - could grant him more protection than his guards. So when Uldren Sov takes over the reef and his palace, Spider runs and hides and does everything in his power to help as very little as possible so that it can scarcely be traced back to him in case the guardian fails. When he finds Crow and Glint wandering the shore, he sees more than a business opportunity, it’s a chance for revenge on the people who’ve wronged him. He captures them and seems to know exactly what to do to control both of them. Using them as his pawns, rather than the other way around like how House of Wolves/Mara Sov most likely did.
I could go on and on about the signs and signals, and all the ways that their treatment of their Houses and connections to others signify abuse, but I’m going to get to the point instead. I started this by saying how this season was showing us more patterns of abuse than we might realize. Is all the evidence I presented concrete? Sort of. It can be explained in many ways, but as someone who’s been in a few shitty situations I’d rather not detail, it struck a chord with me I couldn’t ignore. Neither Spider nor Mara’s actions are justified in the story. We don’t know if Mara Sov is truly Mara, if she’s acted like this in the past, or what she was like with the House of Wolves for sure. What we do know is that she and Petra continue to treat Crow lesser by repeatedly seeing him as nothing more than Uldren, and only looking for reasons to justify violence rather than directly asking if Crow himself thinks violence is justified (see Mara asking Glint about what happened to Crow. That was something for Crow to admit when he was ready, but for Mara to go behind his back for). What Spider did to Crow was wrong from an outsider’s perspective, but to him, it was justified and earned. Mara planning to kill Spider is - and I hate to admit it - justified from her perspective, yet still wrong. It’s not her place to decide what happens to Spider just because Crow went through it. It’s Crow’s place. Killing Spider will do nothing more than perpetuate the cycle of abuse, deeming violence to being the only solution, rather than looking for other options and seeking out other’s opinions.
This has been my ted-talk.

Peregrine and Notuldren/Guardian Uldren/Crow:
Despite her hatred for Uldren for what he did to Cayde, and despite absolutely being the one to kill him, Perry doesn't carry that hatred over to the revived man.
Sure, it's painful, seeing the man who stole her loved one from her getting a second lease on life, but that's what it is. A second life. A second chance. A chance, perhaps, to be someone better.
She reasons that Cayde was all about trying to be a better man, all about trying to do good even if the methods weren't stellar, even if he slipped up from time to time. Peregrine figures if she can give Notuldren the support he needs he just might turn out all right in his second chance.
Naturally Beyond Light is gonna decide how the Guardian and the newbie interact, but I'd like to think Perry would reach out to him and take him under her wing as she does with any other new Hunter in Cayde's stead.
Bcause she's an Exo, he won't be able to see the hurt on her face when she looks at him right away. He already has to live with the hatred and pain of so many, and there's no way that'd foster positive growth, so her Exo face helps alleviate this (at least until he learns his teacher's tells).
I just really like the image of her teaching him how to be a good hunter, and walking him through the Tower, Cayde's cloak on her back and the Ace on her hip, declaring the next person who draws on him is gonna be in for a bad time. She knows her cloak and gun give weight to her acceptance where nobody else can.
She probably wouldn't tell him about his past unless he reaches the conclusion himself and asks, so as not to color his new life. If he did ask, she'd make an effort to find Joylon or another friend, as her own account is too biased in hate and pain. She also wouldn't want Mara anywhere near him.
Basically : "Yeah I executed 1.0. Yeah 2.0 is now my son. Deal with it" 🤷‍♀️

ya’ll i am reading game informers newest article about the eight fallen barons in forsaken and SCREAMING
im mostly just pointing out things that i find really interesting, but here’s the link if you wanna read!
fair warning though, it includes some spoilers!
as for what i found interesting, non spoilery stuff up here, spoilers below the cut!
‘Hunting down the Barons comprises a large part of your journey in the initial campaign, and each has their own story, traits, and boss encounter, making them some of Destiny 2’s most interesting foes yet.’
some of the in game info on the barons comes from cayde himself.
‘The Barons were once a hodgepodge of lowly Dregs, cast out from the upstart House of Exile. Forsaken and scorned by their own Eliksni comrades, and with no one to depend on but each other, they didn’t just survive… they thrived through ingenuity, ruthlessness, and teamwork. They raided their Fallen brethren’s encampments, stealing ether and growing ever stronger; they pillaged and terrorized Awoken outposts throughout the post- Taken War Reef. Like the “Cowboys” of Tombstone, they became the scourge of the Reef, overpowering other gangs of Fallen pirates and scavengers, and rendering the once flourishing homeland of the Awoken into a lawless frontier.’
‘At a stand-off as legendary as the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, the Scorned Barons were defeated. Most were killed; but 7 of the original 8 were captured and tossed into the deepest and darkest cells of the Prison of Elders.’
one of the barons is responsible for ‘fueling tensions’ between earth and the reef.
the article details each barons name, history, and status, giving us some insight into how they operate.
they’re all really unique and almost feel like a dnd party, one is even described as the scorns ‘bard’ aka their sweet talker who uses subterfuge and doesn't really fight.
one is responsible for killing the last of the house of wolves.
the reason we get info on the barons from cayde is because its ‘learned from when he had to put the barons in their place the first time around.’
cayde and petra teamed up to take on the Barons:
‘Following the Red War, the notorious Cayde-6 and a small, elite posse of his most trusted Guardians assisted Regent-Commander Petra Venj in cleaning up the Reef from the pirating of the Scorned Barons.’
which is why the barons are helping uldren!!
theory time: uldren probably promised the barons he’d kill cayde so that they’d help him with whatever goal he has during the DLC
the leader of the barons themselves is called ‘the fanatic’
‘he views his Scorn as an evolution of the fallen and the final manifestation of what they were always meant to be – eternal.’
‘Once a prominent Archon Priest of a long-lost House, the Fanatic preached heresy to the machine-worshiping Eliksni and paid a heavy price – docking, banishment, and starved from the Fallen’s lifegiving Ether. After falling in with the Barons to become their warrior-priest, he continued his anti-Great Machine evangelization and instilled in his brothers and sisters a belief that the old Eliksni must finally die, as the Whirlwind should have allowed, in order for them to rise better and stronger – and eternal.’
all of the scorn seem to hate the fallen, some going so far as to change how they look because of it.
one of the barons fell into the hellmouth on the moon and he became obsessed with researching the hive.
said research allowed him to control the hive and gave him the name ‘the mindbender’
most interestingly, he: ‘found a way to carve a throne-world of his own from the ascendant realm. ‘
he’s also seemingly responsible for the fact that we haven’t heard from the reef in d2: ‘Trapped and "brainwashed" Prince Uldren's Crows, using them to feed misinformation and fuel tensions between Earth and the Reef.’
‘the hangman’ - who looks fucking awesome and terrifying -- is responsible for killing the last of the house of wolves, which makes me hope that we hear a bit more about them in the DLC
‘the mad bomber’ is straight up junkrat and i love it
‘A bombastic thrill-seeker for whom self-preservation is an afterthought, the lunatic known as the Mad Bomber is willing to blow an entire location to smithereens just to kill his target.’
also, this tidbit in his section is interesting: ‘Destroyer of the Origin Libraries: Targeted the last three known vestiges of the Reef Awoken in an effort to assassinate any remaining royalty.’
theory: was there more royalty on the reef that wasnt just mara and uldren??
