What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
I had an idea for a Twilight fic some time ago that I never finished because I didn't know enough about Twilight, but it was a pretty good concept. I might use it for original fiction sometime, I dunno.
What are your writing strengths?
I dunno, you tell me. Descriptions, jokes, bad vibes, idk.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I hate writing the connective tissue bits between scenes, which is why most of my longer fics are in vignette form, and I get fed up of the fic if I've been working on it for a while, so my endings tend to be a bit lazier. Also, I'm not very good at plot. I'm mostly a vibes-based writer.
Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
It's usually pretty easy to get around, especially if the character themselves doesn't speak the language. One of my biggest pet peeves in fiction in general is the egregious use of recognizable foreign words to show the audience they're speaking another language when everything else is in English. Don't be doing that.
First fandom you wrote for?
Percy Jackson, I think. Self insert ofc, never posted anywhere.
Favorite fic you've written?
Doing the opposite of the way parents pic their favourite child and saying whichever was the last one.

Interview with the Vampire Thoughts!
Spoilers Abound!
After a second, drunker viewing of the pilot, here be my drunk thoughts. More sober thoughts may or may not come. IDK:
When I first saw the shots of Lestat at dinner with Louis' family a few days ago I immediately thought about all the ways smart writers could convey this scene. My favorite idea was if the writers conveyed Louis' family as almost immune to Lestat's charms. It would make so much sense! As a black person, I can say that groups of black folks are not easily won over by white people no matter how supernaturally charming lol. The bar is high for us to let our guard down particularly when a white person you dont know is in your personal space. I love that ultimately even Lestat could recognize that Louis' family was not having it and was not the least bit amused by him.
It's amusing and concerning to me how many people don't know/understand that the "French White" thing is not a IWTV specific thing. I mean this EXACT joke was in a Wanda Sykes special a few years ago.
Lestat is a "I'd vote for Obama a third time" kind of white and this very appropriate for his character.
I've seen complaints about the show talking about Louis' blackness too much and I'm just ?????? I mean, he's telling the story of his life and what it was like to live at that time, so yeah he's gonna talk about the hardships of being black at that particular time. It's the only the first episode and their setting the stage. and lestat is a tactless bitch so of course he's bring up Louis' race in the most grating way possible lol. It's a dog whistle y'all. don't fall for it.
I'll be honest - I never understood what was so special about Book!Louis that Lestat was so obsessed with him. But here I totally get it! Show! Louis is a gay black man out of place, in the margins, struggling to make a life for himself. He has these hidden depths that he cant share with anyone, like his gay identity and his love of the opera. An Jacob Anderson is so captivating. It makes sense to me that Lestat would want him as a companion.
Along these lines - the main reason why Book!Lestat is so attracted to Louis is because he reminds him of his ex. So does this mean show!Nicki is going to be Black? That could be interesting, but also fetishistic and weird on Lestat's part if it's not handled well.
On the note of tact - I dont expect to show to be some thoughtful and deep mediation on race. They're trying....but you know....white people....At the end of the day this a trashy show about vampires and I'm fine about that.
The levitating "sex" scene was vey silly and not as a erotic as I thought it was gonna be (though it was very fun). It was just a gay naked cuddle in the air. To call it a sex scene is hella reaching. But I appreciate the show getting weird.
that being said I want a proper sex scene because it would be an incredible waste of the chemistry between these very hot actors not to have them bone.
Daniel's personality feels on point to me. This feels like the same sassy guy that called Armand an immortal idiot. IDK
Louis' modern apartment feels accurate to his personality. He's one of the view vamps that doesn't care that much about aesthetics and I think the show did a good job of designing a home for him that combines luxury with austerity (I know that doesnt make sense but I cant think of the word right now). Its a cold gray cinder block with gray and wood furnishing. there are pops of red and gold here or there but ultimately it feels like a largely empty space only filled with the most necessary furnishings and space decor.
Grace is wonderful and adorable
rip to Lily. a real one.
I dont think Lestat pushed Paul to suicide. I think Lestat is just classless lol
The show does not do a good job of setting the stage for New Orleans culture for an audience that might be unfamiliar. IDT that Louis' thinking that Lestat's powers are just tricks is that weird when you consider that New Orleans has long been a hot bed of voodoo, witchcraft, and supernatural happenings. New orleans is a place where someone like Marie Laveau could make a name for herself in society as a Voodoo practitioner. It wasn't uncommon for folks of all classes to turn to magic for help with illness, love, and other life matters.
A big mainstream show that dresses and lights black people well - what a concept!

• when he walked up to you, maybe it was the undead courage, because he knew that when he was alive, he’d never actually get the strength to walk up to you like he did, he introduced himself with the best pick up line he could think of and the look on your face was enough to make him smile.
• the two of you spoke for a moment, he smiled at you as you giggled and laughed away, and you didn’t even turn your nose when he started smoking, just saying a small, “Those will kill you, you know?” which he just laughed at
• Eddie complimented you, to which you responded, “are you trying to butter me up, Eddie?” “What if I am?” You just turned your head to hide your smile.

• from the moment the sun set, he would make his way to you, up into your cutesy bedroom and to you.
• eddie would sometimes feel like he didn’t deserve you, I mean, you were so cute and soft and innocent, and he was… let’s just say he wasn’t any of that. he thought he was corrupting you, he got you to smoke with him a few times, you’re sneaking out past curfew, lying to your parents (even if you did all this before, he couldn’t help but feel a little guilty.
• he had even thought about cutting everything off, but that was quickly over powered by his complete infatuation with you, which he thinks could quickly turn into love
• and of course there was a fair share of people who hated the thought of you and eddie together, people who had crushes on you and people who just flat out hated eddie
• they’d talk to you like you were crazy for dating him, but you’d just simply smile at them and shake your head, “i just really like him” you’d say dreamily,
• he wouldn’t tell you he’s a vampire, it would blurt out one night when the two of you were discussing movies and dnd campaigns. saying that they were(for the most part) totally inaccurate because he himself is a vampire
• you stared at him as everything clicks together, and yeah, it makes so much sense now. Eddie was like five sentences away in his rant until he realized what he said. He slowly turned to you with a look of horror on his face, not entirely ready to see the freaked out look on your face, you’d back away from him scared, calling him a freak like everyone else, even before he turned
• “well that explains a lot.” you laugh softly and shake your head. You scoot closer to Eddie and hug his arm, resting your chin on his shoulder. “I don’t mind Eddie, it’s okay. Just don’t kill anyone that I like.” You tell him.
• this lead into a very deep discussion about him and his vampirism, you really didn’t mind him being a vampire, and you were just so sweet and kind about it, never raising your voice or calling him mean names, never looking at him like you were scared or disgusted
• Eddie couldn’t believe it, you were still so sweet and soft with him, you treated him exactly the same. Eddie hugged and kissed you all over that night.
• and of course he loved your style, you soft pastels and whites with his all over grungy metal look, he thought it was a sweet contrast between the two
• he loves you, and your soft style? he’d encourage you and your clothing, whether you were something with the softest colors and patterns, or if you steal something of his. He’d also give you his jacket and/or vest to wear, even if it doesn’t match your outfit, he liked to see you wear it, and it spices it up a little bit!

Anyways, anyone want a live reaction summary of that movie? Well here it is anyways
(Cw for mentions of all the stuff typical for a jumpscare horror movie)
They‘re unironically trying to sell the house of the first movie as a spooky lost place far off a spooky village filled with distrustful and unsettling people it. Such scary individuals like. A middle-aged lady looking at them though a window. Or five guys sitting on stairs. And emo teens. Spooky
The random old crazy guy who tells them it’s DaNgeRous here while laughing totally maniacally before going GET OFF MY LAWN because of course
DEER
Also, our characters: MC Arthur fanboy whose 18th birthday it is, MC‘s love interest who thinks MC should grow up, Logan Paul Hair and his bro Goatee guy, Token dark skinned funny guy, Glasses guy afraid of frogs who‘s kinda got the same outfit and speaking style to yours truly fr that’s just me, Glasses girl with camera, pretty blonde girl. Prediction: all of them except MC, Love interest and one of the bros die
Ok they arrived at the house, whimsical music plays as they look amazed at the trees blooming pink when it’s not even spring…only for the music to cut out when they see they’re made of plastic. Ngl that was kinda funny
Spooky black feather stuck in a secret small door leading to a basement that wasn’t part of the movie oOoOOoh
Now it’s dark, they’re making a bonfire outside, and there’s spooky Hippopotamus noises (that’s what they called them in the movie)

There‘s hidden figures in the woods with lanterns and this dude calls the names of some dudes they saw a lost place video of that house of. And when they suddenly all vanish he just goes back to bed

Spooky random hole that’s seemingly endless but makes spooky sounds, check
There‘s suddenly spooky fog out of nowhere surrounding glasses guy. He touched a weird tree that had moss all over except for a part that looks like the outline of someone hugging the tree, and got punched in the face. Meanwhile the bros chill until blood drops on the one guy, aaaaand the filter switched to grey! 50min of nothing and then it escalates completely. This movie is 1.5h long btw
Turns out they found one of the guys from the video hanging from a tree after not seeing he‘s there for like 20min, dude steps on a super obvious bear trap trying to get him, but ngl the actors are doing a good job at acting as far as I can tell with the dub.

omg. You know how in guardians of the galaxy and such that one character thinks he’s invisible because he’s moving so slow? And it’s played as a joke? Yeah they just did that unironically with a guy standing in front of a door all this time I can’t-

Aaaand now it’s randomly over. No signal or reason or anything, it just is.
Survivors: MC, MC‘s LI, and the token guy! A surprise twist!
…the explanation for all of this. Is Role-Playing.
A bunch of teens meeting each year to role-play a new theme. The year before it was Batman. This year it was Arthur and the Minimoys. And they go kill everyone like this because of drugs. Doesn’t explain all the stuff that was going beforehand. Or the secret basement. Or holes. Or anything really
OoOOoh Spooky Hoodie Guy is still standing at the window
(Also what happened to the deer imagery? They set that up for half the movie but the moment the forbidden ketchup starts appearing they completely forget all of it. ALSO the trailer showed spooky versions of the Minimoys. Guess what never makes an appearance.)
Conclusion: would give this movie a solid 4.5/10 for two funny lines and the guys playing the bros doing a pretty good job at putting emotion in

I want Gary team redemption. Literally everything he brought back or was new got ate by legendaries except Electivire, with only Blastoise getting to make up for it. (Fair. But you must admit, the idea of Gary being the supportive boyfri-- *ahem* CHILDHOOD friend having all kinds of emotions while watching Ash's biggest match ever live while trying to stay composed and cool as he usually does [when compared to Johto] is too good of a dream to pass up? Having the big proudest smirk if Ash wins?)
I just want his team to have some fleshing out tbh, or at least the 4 that are most known as stables. Like back in OS most of the pokemon didn't really had much to do outside of the occasional battle or race- SPECIALLY non-Ash's pokemon. In Johto this was a bit improves but again....Shigeru has 4 appareances on it before the league. So....yeah, not lots of time to develop an pokemon xD but things had changed since then, and non-Ash Pokemon can have their own character, so I think we all know who deserves it the most....
Definition Arcanine, he looks like a good boy :)
Ok jokes aside Blastoise is criminally underdeveloped being his starter and the one that ended his and Ash's battle, I would had loved to see more of that guy....and I will take the chance to put my hc here: Ash and Gary totally talked about who they starter would be when they were younger, constantly, and Ash didn't had an direct asnwer (he thought all three looked cool) but Gary already knew his pick would be Squirtle. Hence Ash picking Squirtle first when he got late, like an reminance of that little (er) boy that constantly followed Gary around....hey, Delia's words not mine.
Also the second part- ACSBAFSHACSHAVSHAVS- Anon, anon come here: I think about that.... literally everyday. Like every single day if my life. Like I still hold an grudge for robbing me of an Shigeru cameo watching the Sinnoh League- but I have Hope™ ok? Ok. If they can make PAUL actually smile at Ash TWICE and Gladion apparently stalked him online, they can make the less tsundere of the three act like an proud boyfri- guy best friend, guy BEAT FRIEND-
Nah, boyfriend, they just have an open relationship that is what the second scene under the moon was for.

Hello and welcome to the 7 (plus nico and Reyna) watching Encanto headcanons
Leo- likes Camilo. Projects on him and laughs about it as a funny joke. He jokes about being the handsome guy who makes everyone laugh. Sees Julieta and mirabel interact and is no longer laughing. That scene in the kitchen messes him up, he misses his mom so badly. Also being the most fluent Spanish speaker, he picks up on most of the little references and stuff. if people have questions about something he will turn to them and explain what it means. Dos oruguitas Is an incredibly sad song and all of his joking stops when he hears it. He hums the song for days after they watch it and grows to find it comforting. Really appreciates all of the subtle things in the movie that make him go “hey, I do that”
Hazel- her mother reminds her of abuela. She sees herself as Bruno because she also feels outcasted for powers she can’t control. She did the best she could and cared for her mom but it was never enough. The same way Bruno never met Abuelas expectations, she feels like a failure, a curse. Always felt very isolated and out of place when she came back. She feels bad about how poorly he was treated and thinks he forgave abuela too quickly.
Annabeth- Percy did the 👀 thing everyone jokes about to annabeth when surface pressure came on. She totally relates to carrying too much. She won’t say anything but she also feels like Isabella. Especially on her relationship with her mom and Isabella’s relationship with abuela. She wishes she could be perfect and seen as good enough, despite it being inauthentic. It’s refreshing for her to see Isabella let go and grow by letting go of her expectations for herself. She thinks it’s a good movie but will choose to repress any emotions that come with it
Percy- this movie messes with Percy to his core. He’s got a split of Luisa and Mirabel. Man has WAY too much pressure placed on his shoulders yet always feels disconnected from those around him. Julieta and agustin remind him of Sally and Paul. Hispanic Percy lives rent free in my mind so dos orguitas has him absolutley SOBBING and annabeth is like bro are you good. Percy is just doing the silent sob to not get peoples attention. He also thinks about annabeth as Luisa first, talks with her about it and she’s like “yeah but you really remind me of her too like think about these lyrics” and Percy takes a second and is like. “Wait. I AM carrying too much.” He’s also a huge Bruno sympathizer and thinks he deserves so much better.
Frank- Frank thinks this is a great movie! His grandmother and abuela are very similar to him and sees a lot of the sane traits reflected. The unintentional passing of trauma. He relates to mirabel and is not afraid to say it. He heard waiting on a miracle and was kinda like :o . He spent so long waiting on a chance to be recognized, for someone to really SEE him and even after he gets the blessing from Mars he still feels lost like Mirabel is. Likes the end of the movie with the resolution between Mirabel and abuela. He also adores Antonio. Would protect him with his life.
Piper- I’m gonna say she sees herself as Dolores now let me explain myself. She’s always cast aside but not in a Mirabel way. Like she’s there but is just kinda off to the side and no one really pays her any attention. She’s powerful and empathetic, a wonderful character who struggles to find her place and what to do with her family. She’s there, but not quite there. Although this movie isn’t as impactful for her she still talks about how it’s a good movie that showcases intergenerational trauma really well. It’s not a concept she’s foreign too, she just doesn’t feel pulled toward one particular character
Jason- Jason’s just vibing. He relates to Isabella and Luisa but not on an earth shattering level. He goes mhm yeah I get that and moves on. He also sees lupa as abuela and does not see a problem with it. Jason would pull up like “yeah I think abuela was right to be so hard on Mirabel it made her stronger” and 8 different heads spin towards him. He doesn’t really get it. Piper and Leo have to have the “this is not acceptable behaviour and this movie shows the dysfunctional relationship in this family. This is not healthy behaviour” talk with him. It’s awkward
Reyna- my god did she see Isabella at first and go uh the pretty girl gets everything so easy and then she sang and she was like ahaha. Wait. If anyone asks, she did not find any character in the movie super relatable but she thought it was good. Dos oruguitas was a hard hit for her. Hylla reminds her of Luisa
Nico- I know Nicos Italian but I feel like he knows a decent amount of Spanish. My brain just says he picked it up growing up. This movie messes him up and not why everyone thinks. It’s the end with dos oruguitas that ruins his life because it reminds him of Bianca? Like the way abuela is sobbing on the ground all alone that sends him right back to when he learned Bianca was dead. The song reminds him of Bianca. Leo and Reyna understand the words but doesn’t get why it hits him so hard. Percy gets the words but It takes him a while after watching it to understand why it was so hard for Nico. But it’s random one day when Leo is humming it as Nico is in the room and Nico tenses up a bit and Percy has the “oh” moment. He blames himself for making Nico relate to that song. Shocker to no one, Nico is also a big Bruno fan/sympathizer though not really a kin. Nico would have left and never gone back.
These are all just random headcanons of mine but I’d love to hear any other thoughts on it!

Top 5 Characters in ANF Who Would’ve Made Better Love Interests Than Kate
There are a lot of mixed opinions on TWDG: A New Frontier. Some people like it, some don’t, and some people hate it so much that they refuse to accept as canon in the series. Extreme? Yeah, but hey, to each their own. 
One thing that always bothers me when I do my replay of the series and this game is how much Kate is forced on us and even kinda punishes us for not romancing her. Like, no offense, but I’m not really interested in dating my sister-in-law, especially when her husband is actually alive, and even if she wasn’t my brother’s wife, she’s still not a character I have chemistry with, y’know? 
And every time I play, I can’t help but think that almost anyone else in ANF would’ve been a better romantic interest for Javi over Kate, so I decided to make that the list for this week. 
I would’ve loved more choices and for the game to actually show Javi’s canon bisexuality outside of a flirty line with Jesus that most players didn’t even pick. Just sayin’.
I do want to note that if you enjoy the romance with Kate and the relationship between her and Javi, that’s totally cool. Just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean you can’t ship them, y’know? I’m not here to try to change your mind or tell you you’re bad for shipping something I don’t because I’m not a dingus. You do what makes you happy, friend. :)
Besides, going off the stats, a majority of players romanced her so if anything, I’m the weirdo. This list is just for fun!

Wait, wait, stop! Before you click outta here in a huff with your “Kenny good Jane bad” grunts and come yell at me, just hear me out-- this entry is mostly a joke and the other four on this list are serious, okay? 
I needed someone to put at #5 and after talking over some options and going back and forth.... Jane came up as a joke and then kind of made the list. Because really, I thought about it. I was like, “Would I really rather have dingdong “whatever happens stay out of it” potato face Jane as a love interest over Kate? Do I dislike Kate as an option that much?” and Pi and I talked about this for a while and yeah.... yeah I would actually. 
When I said anyone but Kate, I guess I really meant anyone. 
Trust me, I know, I’m just as surprised. I guess this really says a lot about my feelings for Kate. I didn’t know I disliked her this much either.
But for fun, let’s entertain this idea of the writers NOT pulling the ol’ character assassination on Jane and she made it to Richmond with Clementine and AJ because--
Jane: "One time I ate glass because I was drunk and thought it was sugar."
Javier: "I gambled on my own baseball matches and disgraced myself for money."
Jane: “Well, I dragged my little sister around with me after everything went to shit until I finally gave her what she wanted and left her to die.”
Javier: “I wasn’t there when my dad was fighting cancer and when I finally showed up, I was too late and he was already dead, then he turned and I bashed his skull in with a piece of wood.” 
Jane: “I shot a dude’s dick off once.”
Javier: “Oof. I insulted an old lady’s cake and then shot her eye out.”
Jane: “I screwed a guy when I was supposed to be securing a place for some lady to have her baby and it resulted in the death of a teenage girl.”
Javier: “I screwed my brother’s wife.” 
Jane: “...”
Javier: “In my defense, I thought he was dead.” 
Jane: “That’s fair.”
Clementine, exasperated and emo: “Oh my god.” 
....I mean... we might be onto something here, c’mon--
Okay, now onto the more legit entries. 
4. Conrad

Now listen... I know, okay? I know. I know this one can be seen as a bit problematic considering the fact that Conrad, in his grief and anger over Francine’s death, held a gun to Gabe’s head and threatened Javi and Clementine.... plus Javi can literally murder him.
...and if you don’t do anything, Conrad with murder both Gabe and Javi and you’ll get a “YOU ARE DEAD” screen...
But we don’t talk about that because it’s not canon.
I know, but listen... I’m allowed to have ships that are difficult, as are you, and this is my list so... there.
If Conrad was a love interest that’s the route I’d take because I love him and I think a relationship between him and Javi could’ve been so damn good if properly done.
I just find Conrad to be an interesting character with a great arc that you only get to see if you don’t shoot him... which is what most people did, so they missed out. And like, I get it, I get why y’all shot him but maybe next time you play, you could consider not doing that?
So here’s the thing, Javi and Conrad share something-- they both lost loved ones because of shithead Badger. Javi is heartbroken after Mariana’s death, Conrad is devastated after Francine’s death, and they both handle that in different ways. Conrad becomes so focused on revenge and getting into Richmond, that he’s willing to threaten two kids in order to get what he wants but the thing is... that’s not him.
He even says so himself when you keep him alive-- he genuinely apologizes for what happened and will end up coming back to save Javi’s life in ep4. The potential for this to work as a relationship? It’s there... the only problem is that my confidence in the writers handling something like this is low, but let’s pretend they used their time and brains wisely-- ya got yourself a classic slow-burn friends to enemies to friends again to lovers romance and I’m here for it. 
3. Paul “Jesus” Monroe

A lot of people really like the idea of Javi and Jesus and wanted him to be a romantic option, and I don’t blame them. They have chemistry in the scenes they share, and Javi can straight up flirt with him at the end of the season, and it’s super cute... of course, I wish we had more but Telltale was too scared to actually show Javi’s bisexuality outside of that one line, I guess.
But, anyway, this ship has a lot of sweet fanart that we love to see.
The only real reason he isn’t higher on the list is that Jesus is apparently already in a relationship at this point? I guess? From what I’ve been told? Listen, I don’t read the comics, I don’t watch the show, I just go off what y’all tell me. Plus, I believe Kent joked about Jesus having someone in each community during the commentaries so like... that’s a thing?
But let’s pretend that we throw that all out and Jesus is single and ready to be in a committed relationship with our boy Javier here. Like I mentioned above, these characters have a believable chemistry from the moment they meet and I think that has a lot to do with how charming they are by themselves. Those different charms work well together.
I also enjoy how much of a badass Jesus is when it comes to fighting off walkers. Javi has a lot of force that you feel with each hit, while Jesus almost has a lighter but just as impactful hit? I dunno if I’m explaining that well-- basically, Javi strong but Jesus can bounce off walls and do cool shit with weapons that feels effortless.
It’s a combo of fighting styles that I love, so these two fighting together? *chef kiss*
There’s also Jesus’ morality and how he wants to see Javier make “good” decisions, y’know? Sure, he gets pissy if you murder the shit outta Badger, which is mostly just Telltale showing you consequences, but I get it. He sees a lot of potential in Javi, more than Javi himself sees. And unlike certain characters, Jesus doesn’t completely hate you for doing something he doesn’t agree with to a frustrating degree.
If the game gave us the option to pursue Jesus as a love interest, he and Javier would’ve been such a badass couple with a sweet romance.
2. Eleanor

This one might come as a surprise to those of you who know my feelings about Eleanor... as in, I don’t like her. I never forgave her for the shit she pulled in ep4/ep5, and now every time I replay ANF and she shows up? Well, all I really hear is the hissing of a snake.
But, putting those feelings aside and looking at her from a different perspective, I do believe that she would’ve made for a better love interest than Kate assuming that if you romanced her, she wouldn’t rat everyone out to Joan, y’know?
Hell, most people believed that Eleanor was going to be the second option with Kate back when the episodes were coming out, and for good reason. The chemistry is there in the flirting, and their relationship could’ve been super cute.
Of course, Eleanor being a love interest also comes with things becoming awkward with Tripp, but c’mon-- as awkward as pursuing a relationship with your sister-in-law and never telling your brother after finding out he’s alive? Nah, I don’t think so.
Plus, for the first three episodes, Eleanor’s not a bad character. In fact, she’s pretty damn likable, she deeply cares for the group and wants to use her medical skills for good.
And you can tell through the dialogue that she and Javi are fond of one another... well, I guess until they shove the Kate thing in our faces and suddenly Eleanor’s like “oh, I thought you two were a thing??” like... Eleanor, we were flirting and I totally rejected all of Kate’s advances last episode I mean??
If she were a love interest, instead of turning on us, she would... y’know, not do that and instead help us out. We have a couple cute moments like back in ep1 where she’s patching Javi up but this time with a smooch? Super cute.
1. Tripp

Okay but seriously, why wasn’t Tripp a love interest? 
He’s the perfect option. I just-- uuuughhhhh. 
They already have a great believable bromance, so why not take it a step further and make it an official romance? Oh wait, that’s right, ya gotta kill off 95% of your determinant characters, I forgot. Sorry Tripp. 
Well, fuck that. Out of all the other adult characters, Javi has the most chemistry with this man. I believe them more than I believe him and Kate. Sure, they got off to a rocky start the progression of their relationship felt natural with every episode. 
That scene where Tripp is confiding in Javi about his feelings for Eleanor? And in turn, Javi can confide in him about Kate? One of my favorite scenes. I only wish there was an option to tell Tripp he can do much better and set the path for the romance. 
Seriously, I’d probably feel more okay about the romance with Kate if Tripp were the second option. That way, Kate wouldn’t be so forced onto the player, the writers confirming Javi’s bisexuality on Twitter or whatever wouldn’t feel like they were trying to earn points without actually showing representation, and we would’ve gotten the beauty that is Javier and Tripp. 
Also, then Tripp could make it to the end without dying that dumb death of his that no one likes. 
And if I haven’t convinced you yet, then look at these swaps Pi did--

St. Vincent x Emma Madden Interview
This is the text from the St. Vincent interview that Emma Madden was asked to not use. Since Miss Madden has decided to take it down, I wanted it to be available somewhere online - in case she manages to get all the cached versions taken down, too.

About a fortnight ago I was commissioned to interview St. Vincent, an artist I have been inspired by, impressed by, turned on by, compelled by, curious of, in awe of, occasionally suspicious of—for the better half of a decade. I try not to think about other journalists too much, but St. Vincent has developed a reputation for intimidating us. For her last press cycle, she made her interviewers crawl into a pink box; she would play a pre-recorded message on a tape recorder if a question bored or irked her. I found that quite funny—irresistibly imperious—but I considered it an act of degradation rather than an interesting switch of power. I love famous people but I also find them quite silly, like a Schnauzer wearing a bowtie.
  I didn’t know why, but for around two hours after our call ended, I was reeling with nervous energy. I was vocalising it and trying to get to the other side of it, the way I sing songs when I’m walking through a haunted house. I woke up the next morning with a voice message from the editor who assigned this piece. I am fond of this person and I will not name them. MBC, the team in charge of St. Vincent’s publicity (which is helmed by Barbara Charone, who also works for Madonna, and is considered one of the more powerful and intimidating publicists in the industry) had been on the phone to this editor, demanding the piece be pulled. My editor’s words: “They said she’s terrified of this interview coming out.” The publication didn’t have a leg to stand on.
"Terrified"? That word didn't seem to square. I thought I had done a not-so-good job the night before. I ended the call thinking I hadn’t asked the right questions. St. Vincent and I didn’t feel like a good match in conversation (or at least not in this conversational setup set-up, for which I was given thirty minutes, and continual reminders from the person on St. Vincent’s team, who remained on the call with us, that we’d need to wrap up well in time for St. Vincent’s Instagram Live session with Paul McCartney, which directly followed our interview.) St. Vincent tended to interpret my questions in bad faith. I assumed she believed me to be a Bad Reader; presumptuous, judgemental, simple, anti-curious—all qualities that her latest album ‘Daddy’s Home’, which I’ve interpreted as a counter to the folly, inadequacy and meretriciousness of moral purity—counters. Anyway, she read me wrong. I love Lana Del Rey.
  I got a call from MBC later that morning by a man who sounded quite nervous. I told him I was confused, I asked him what the matter seemed to be. He wasn't totally sure, he said, "she found the interview aggressive." Aggressive? I complimented her and cowed to her and laughed at her jokes. "Well, the message has been passed down a line of many messengers, she might not have actually said that." The man on the phone said that this—one of his artists demanding an interview to be pulled—had never happened to him before. It hadn't happened to me either. I felt annoyed by how easy it was for St. Vincent to kill something I had researched and expected money for. But the interview started to seem valuable to me after I was told that she didn't want it out in the world. "Can we draw a line under this and just kill the piece here?" said the man on the phone.
Below is the full transcript of my interview with St. Vincent (save for a short and-forth about Tool which didn’t make sense when turned into text). My questions are in bold, her responses are in italics.
**for the sake of this post, Madden’s questions are bold and Annie’s answers are not** Hi, how are you? Good how’s it going?
Not too bad. What’s your mood for today? My mood for today, well it’s good, I’m getting on an Instagram Live chat with Paul McCartney in a couple minutes so my mood is a little bit nervous but good.
I’m excited to talk about this album, I think it has a sick sense of humor that I appreciate a lot. I’ve had a really fun time listening to it.
Oh I’m glad, thank you.
I’m sensing there’s kind of a 70s trend at the moment in terms of fashion and the ways some other bands are presenting themselves. Is that something you were anticipating, is that something you feel you belong to, or was it just kind of accidental?
Accidental.
Do you feel bummed about that? No I don’t, I always just kind of do my own thing.
Do you think there’s a reason why people might be inspired by the 70s today? Do you see an analog with our world today and with the 70s? I guess this album is based in 1973, right?
Between ‘71 and ‘76, so post flower children idealism, post the Summer of Love hangover, but pre escapism of gay disco and pre nihilism of punk. Life was bad but music was good, kind of vibe.
Kind of when the trash aesthetic was taking hold, especially by Andy Warhol. Does trash inspire you? Um like literal rubbish?
No like the trash aesthetic, I guess in the PR you call it sleazy, grimy. Yeah but the difference with sleazy is that sleazy tries to present as glamorous but there’s something off, trash is just trash. I don’t know if trash pretends to be anything other.
  Can you have glamour without sleaze? Sure, absolutely. I mean, like the 20s Greta Garbo way, I would say Golden Era Hollywood, I mean behind the scenes it was probably a nightmare but you look at it and it is very genuinely shiny and beautiful.
I love the sitar on this album especially on ‘Down’, the riff is so sick. How did you get to the sitar? Well it’s not a sitar per se, it’s a choral electric sitar guitar and so it was I think George Harrison made them kind of popular in the ‘60s, I think the one I have is from ’67 and it plays like a guitar but it has a resonating body on it so it sounds sitar-esque. It was made very famous in the Steely Dan Do it Again solo.
  I guess the main PR bulletin point of this album is about your dad coming out of jail. Why did you want that to be the main way that people might read this album? More like an entry point, the title Daddy’s Home to me I mean one, it is literal but also it’s funny and cringy and pervy and also I think more than anything kind of refers to my own transformation into Daddy as it were. Yeah it’s probably not anything I would’ve really thrown out there except that it was made public without my consent but I didn’t really get to tell that side of the story and I don’t bring it up for sympathy. It simply is my story, it’s not intended to be indicative of necessarily anything, it’s just my story and I was gonna tell it with humor and compassion, all of that.
Did you anticipate a lack of sympathy for your dad’s crimes and the subject matter of this album and did that factor into how you shaped this record? That’s the tail wagging the dog my dear. No, no. A lack of sympathy, well, which crime would be the most sympathetic? I didn’t do anything, I’m simply writing about something that I think on some level everyone who’s ever had a parent can understand in the sense of you’re often going “How much of you am I?” and we kind of do identity projection through all these things so no, it’s again, it’s not really there for anything other than my own anecdotal story.
At what point did you transform into this daddy character? For how much of your adult life have you been the daddy? Oh I would just say over the past few years, I’ve just been quite a bit more leaned back and shoulder shrug and say let’s just sit down in the old beat up leather armchair and have a tequila and chat it out you know. Life is complicated, human beings are complicated and I wanted to just write stories about flawed people. There’s a whole lot of judgement going around and not a whole lot of understanding. And judgement is anti-curious. There are some people, perhaps the more sanctimonious and morally pure, who might not be interested in an artist’s reflection on their father’s white collar crimes. Do you have much sympathy for those kinds of people? I mean I think I can get sympathy for all people. If that is the reason why they decide not to spend 46 minutes with my work then I’m sure there’s plenty of other work out there for them that they can enjoy that is morally pure. They should find pure work from pure people and enjoy it.
I guess last year’s riots brought abolition towards the mainstream, during the time you were making this record, which is partially about your father’s time in prison. How did that square with your thoughts on prison and the US carceral system? Well I have plenty of thoughts on it, I’m not totally sure how it’s relevant to this.
Well I was wondering if you have a standpoint on it or if you’d rather just be ambiguous? I have so many thoughts and opinions, I don’t presume that my thoughts and opinions are relevant on every subject though. I don’t have that much hubris.
I understand. I was wondering about the Candy Darling inspiration, how does she come into the fold? Oh I just, Candy Darling to me is such a beautiful heroine in that she came from Queens and went not geographically far but worlds away to Manhattan and became her true self and in that particular kind of combination of glamour and toughness, where you feel like her name should be on the marquee and yet she could stick you with a shiv if you said the wrong thing. And I just find her inspiring and really beautiful, and I didn’t know but I found out a friend of mine was close with her and was at her bedside when she died so I was just picturing Candy Darling’s ascent to heaven as taking the final uptown train.
Wow. Did you feel like you were embodying her on this album or presenting as her? No not as such, but definitely taking inspiration from some of her energy for sure. I do hear a bit of her voice on the title track, I was wondering if you were kind of modeling your voice after her? On Daddy’s Home? Oh, no.
I love the sultriness of that song, even though it’s just about signing autographs in prison. I found it really funny. Yeah it’s definitely again, I’m writing about my own story with humor and compassion and self-effacement, all that.
Do you see this album as a movement, does it have a narrative? Yeah. It’s a full story, it’s a full collection of short stories. It has a shape and everything.
That’s just how I listened to this album, as a series of short stories. I was wondering how they interlink in your mind? I guess you have the person on Broadway, you have your dad, you have the person who’s maybe thinking of having a baby or not having a baby. I just could write stories of flawed people doing their best to get by because I’ve been most of the people on this album at one point of my life or another. And again I could write about them without condemnation and judgement just, here we are.
Are you a nostalgic person? No not generally.
Not even during the creation of this album? I’m thinking of the humming tracks, your mum cooking in the kitchen. Not exactly, I think that this particular kind of music with its sophistication and some of the jazz language in the harmony and its sense of time, it was a kind of music that I’d loved for so long but never really dipped into myself, and I think we kind of learn things a lot of times when we’re ready to, and I think I was kind of ready to learn some of the lessons that this kind of music had to teach me.
Do you think about shame a lot? Um, I think that shame is the reason why most people do the violence that they do. I think violence is an expression of impotence.
What was it about the post-idealist era in particular that you were drawn to, why not go through the flower power utopia sort of 60s route? I think that there’s an intellectual orthodoxy that is involved in utopian thinking and a lot of times it doesn’t allow for either a complex set of incentives or it doesn’t allow for the totality of human nature in its equation, and then it fails and because the structure of any kind of power is really complicated so I think in general the desire… and I understand that we’re living in, in some ways, I think just with the internet part of it, in some ways unprecedented times. And I understand people’s desire for certainty in times economic strife, cultural upheaval, all this stuff. I completely understand the desire for certainty. But I don’t think it’s as simple as demanding moral purity and punishing anyone who doesn’t fix the orthodox criteria. I understand the desire but I’m not sure it’s gonna get to where I think we want to be, which is just general more equality, whether it’s wealth equality, wealth disparity, all that kind of stuff I just think the matrices of power are really complicated.
You were saying earlier about Daddy and how you were thinking about your dad and the overlap between you two and how we all possibly become our parents. I was wondering how you consolidate the influences of your parents? I don’t know anything about them obviously but I know that your mum was a social worker, your dad was an entrepreneur, and those seem like two totally opposing worlds. Yes, my mother is a social worker and she instilled in all of us I think the idea that the work we do should be meaningful and she’s definitely really humanistic and that kind of thinking I think, that had an impression on me. My dad wasn’t an entrepreneur, my dad was a stock broker I think? But I grew up with my mom and my stepdad and my stepdad was a very different kind of guy, just was an army brat and grew up really poor, and was just coming from a different mindset and they’re just very different kinds of people. Not a judgement thing, just very different. Yeah my mom definitely errs on the very humble side. And yeah, my dad is a complicated, charismatic person who’s also very intelligent, and who went down a path that was full of consequence. Yeah they’re really, really different people so it’s funny to kind of square who was who.
What does your dad think of this album? Oh he loves it!
Yay, that’s good to know. Did you ever rebel against your dad’s lifestyle growing up as a teenager? I didn’t grow up with him, and he was in Tulsa Oklahoma. I don’t know what lifestyle you’re necessarily presuming but..
No I’m not presuming, just wanted a little background on your relationship with him I guess. So he wasn’t in your life that much where you were younger? I would go and we would spend summers there and Christmas, but I grew up in Dallas for the most part with my mom and my stepdad.
Was this album in any way an opportunity to get closer to your dad? Not in any way consciously, no.
  But are you finding with age and with time you’re getting closer to him? Well him being out of prison helps in terms of just proximity. Yeah, here’s what I’m finding. I’m finding that we live by the stories that we tell ourselves and that sometimes we realize that the story we’ve been telling ourselves for a long time was either wrong or lacked a certain amount of information, and then we have the choice of whether to reject the new information because it’s too painful to rethink the story that we’ve been telling ourselves, or assimilate the new information and go, wow life is complicated, this is an interesting wrinkle. I choose to do the latter.
  Yeah, it’s very easy to bullshit yourself, right? Yeah, it's true in all kind of ways you know?
This story, the story of your dad, it almost seems redemptive. I mean I would say so, and that’s not in any way what I intended and you know, a lot of times when you’re making something, I mean you’re a writer you know, you have the compulsion to make it but you’re not necessarily sure where it’s coming from or why or any of those kind of questions, but I think there is the possibility of redemption, I do, I think there is the possibility of people to change and I think there is a possibility of things like forgiveness and growth. And if I didn’t think that there was a possibility for human beings to change, to grow, to take in new information and then continue to write their story, then I don’t know what we’d really be doing, you know? And that’s not really the world I want to live in, we’re a moving picture we’re not a still photograph.
Do you want to try and change the world, do you feel like you have that power, do you feel hopeful that there can be a better future? Sorry for the cheesy language. No, I mean I don’t think that many people would accuse me of being an optimist in a lot of ways, and I don’t think in terms of my “power to change the world” I mean I think all I can do is try to study the human condition and write about the human condition in some way that resonates and then maybe people will hear that and that will resonate with them and I think that ultimately the best case scenario for music is empathy because it’s like psychologically this is why we like to listen to stories or this is why we like to watch movies is so we can go down the empathy exercise and you can see yourself as that person in the film, see someone who isn’t like you in any way, shape or form from a just box ticking kind of way, but then realize oh, we’re very similar in some ways or what would I do if I was in that situation, we do all these things and we live by these stories and I think those stories well-told can encourage empathy and empathy can go out into the world and have a kind of transformative experience. I don’t really think about, I mean I think once I make a thing and then it’s out in the world and it’s for other people to assimilate or enjoy or not, whatever, however they take it, is absolutely fine by me. But it’s for them, it’s not my place in any way to say how people should or should not enjoy it or assimilate it.
Yeah the reason I brought up prison abolition earlier is because that might be how some people contextualize this album. I would say that that’s one lens. That to me would not be the main lens.

Pokemon anon again! I'd like to hear anything you have strong opinions on (either your personal ships, ones you dislike, etc). I just really like reading your thoughts, so whatever you feel like sharing is fine.

And sure, I can do that!
Alright, so in terms of ships I dislike (I’m going to go with the English names just so I’m not constantly using both names)...
I guess I should get the obvious ones out of the way, because I’m not really a fan of either “Ash ship” extreme:
Poke//Shipping (Ash X Misty) and Amour//Shipping (Ash X Serena)
I don’t like either of them.
For Poke//Shipping, I have never liked aggressive tsundere characters and Misty is basically a textbook example of that. It’s not that I have a problem with strong/tomboy-ish (though honestly I don’t consider Misty a tomboy anyway) female characters, which I know it sounds like that when I have a distaste for characters like Alix too, but when they’re brash and angry and just so generically “TOMBOY GIRL POWER,” it grates on my nerves.
The idea of having an aggressive character - y’know - be aggressive to their love interest and then cue the sad music when the love interest argues with them or makes any sort of hurtful implication just... no.
Like, I want you to imagine the most sarcastic Clarity possible and then picture me as a little girl watching the scene where Misty is officially leaving the group, because that was literally just me like, “oh noooo, she’s goooone.”
It’s the same reason I don’t do Rocket//Shipping (James X Jessie). One character is too aggressive and the other character doesn’t even come close to balancing it out.
There’s also the fact that nothing comes out of Poke//Shipping. Misty is canonically crushing on Ash (*flashbacks to the friggin’ second movie where they shove it in your face*) but it’s just... there, not to mention that scene where Misty is talking casually to Ash like, “you and I will be married too someday,” which came completely out of left field and - whether for a joke or not - made little kid me very uncomfortable.
Like I said, it’s just there and doesn’t go anywhere, and Ash is already so oblivious that of course he wouldn’t get that Misty is in love with him. It’s basically a long-running gag of Misty pulling a surprised Pikachu face whenever Ash doesn’t understand that she likes him/wants to stay with him/literally wants anything specific from him.
As for Amour//Shipping, I did admittedly like it at first, but just--ugh, oh boy.
First, it’s shipping fanservice, kinda like Pokemon 2000 throwing a bone to the shippers except now it’s the whole two seasons. My followers know how I feel about fanservice just for fanservice and that’s basically all that Amour//Shipping is. That’s why Serena was already made to have met Ash when they were children; so the writers could get a “headstart” on all the blushy fanservice they could squeeze in on Serena’s end.
I fell off the ship sometime around Wulfric, particularly with the scene where Serena comforts Ash. Just that whole, “this isn’t like you,” and then trying to compare her contest losses to Ash’s battles as if Ash hasn’t been at this for seasons upon seasons and battles aren’t a completely different category because they involve actually watching one’s Pokemon get physically hurt (Pokemon battles are a sport, yes, but it doesn’t change anything; Ash also has a special Greninja so of course he’s going to be upset that having all this experience still isn’t enough to just sweep). Like, to relate to someone, yes, it helps to have something you can use as a mental comparison, but that comparison is (usually) supposed to stay mental.
Anyway, after Ash shouts at her because she doesn’t know how he feels at all (because she doesn’t) and he just wanted to be left alone (because he did), Serena throws snowballs at his face and that apparently helps make Ash feel better because Serena can do no wrong here and that just so happened to be exactly what he needed.
(I mean, that whole gym battle and what follows is already pretty trash but that solidified it for me. Basically everything XY&Z added were things I just didn’t care about.)
Oh, and Serena is also implied to steal a kiss from Ash at the very end of the season and you guys know how I feel about that. It’s mostly the fact that she’s so non-apologetic about it, just smiling and blushy and all happy whereas here’s me like, “Wait, I’m pretty sure we just missed a crucial step here??? Since when were you sure that Ash had a thing for you???”
So yeah, I’m not a fan of either ship. I have vague opinions about basically all other ships (The ship between Ash and Iris aka ”You’re such a kid” girl can rot), but Poke//Shipping and Amour//Shipping are the ones I have the strongest negative feelings for.
Brock being shipped with basically anyone is a no no for me. The guy flirts with anything that moves and I have never found it funny or charming. The closest thing young me ever came to a ship with him was Luck//Shipping (Brock X Pike Queen Lucy) but that’s basically it, and it honestly could’ve just been me thinking the idea that Ash and Brock both getting together with Battle Frontier people (I was for Ability//Shipping - Ash X Sailor Maiden Anabel - at the time) was a neat idea and both episodes that featured the respective ships had BLUSH FUEL.
I recall being into Advance//Shipping (Ash X May) when I was young (I was a multishipper back then, you see) but I avoided thinking about it too much because I wasn’t a huge fan of Max (aka “Iris before Iris existed”) and Norman’s game counterpart infuriates me even to this day so I just didn’t want to imagine Ash having to deal with those sorts of things. Plus, looking back on it, he and May were little too similar (then again, maybe that’s why I liked it?).
I expected to enjoy Aurelia//Shipping (Ash X Lillie) when I was getting into the Sun&Moon seasons but it didn’t really do anything for me. I guess maybe I was so burnt out after Amour//Shipping that I wasn’t in a shippy mood anymore? Though, it could also be that their relationship isn’t as “balanced” as I would’ve liked.
Anyway though, as for the ships I actually really like instead of just being indifferent towards or outright disliking, the big one really is just Pearl//Shipping. I suppose it makes sense given that I’m not a multishipper, don’t like Brock enough to ship him with anyone, and most other travel companions are ones I either hadn’t gotten attached to or that I’d paired with Ash long enough that, once I got older, I couldn’t really picture them with other people because my memory of their moments wasn’t strong enough.
Yeah though, PEARL//SHIPPING, I ADORE IT. Like, I’ll try to explain it as best as I can without rambling, but basically:
Dawn doesn’t make excuses when she wants to go with Ash. No “my bike," no meandering, just really casual.
THEY SING THE JAPANESE OPENING TOGETHER AND IT’S RAD. “High Touch” is like, my favorite opening theme???? And they do a duet for it??? I just???? Yes???????
It’s the little things. High-fives are like, their thing. They traded Pokemon with each other which is like, really rare for the series and it made total sense. They both have a Pokemon they keep out of their Pokeball who doesn’t want to evolve (Piplup was the Eevee partner from Let’s Go before it was cool) and no, Misty’s Togepi doesn’t count because it was Gold and Silver’s posterchild. Ash and Dawn also both gave up a speedy physical Pokemon (Primeape and Ambipom respectively) so they could participate in some sort of Pokemon sport that doesn’t exist in the games while I scream in the background because I really like said Pokemon.
DAWN IS ASH’S CHEERLEADER. SHE LITERALLY CHEERS FOR HIM DURING GYM MATCHES. THAT’S PRECIOUS.
They help and get ideas off of each other, which I think is really cool. Them trading Pokemon just furthers that sort of dynamic.
Them just supporting each other in general. There’s a moment where Dawn takes a pretty harsh loss and Ash can be seen sulking like he really gets how she’s feeling.
It also helps that Diamond and Pearl were one of the better seasons of the anime. Paul is a solid rival, I really like the creative battle techniques like spinning and countershield, and just Chimchar in general honestly. I remember the baking episode “Cooking Up a Sweet Story!” vividly and all the feels it gave me.
Yeah though. It’s not any sort of OTP pairing or anything, but out of all of the anime Pokemon ships, Pearl//Shipping is probably my favorite. I’d probably ship them a lot more if they were a little older (like, on par with the protagonists of the Black & White games, who are closer to 14/15; it’s just easier to get a gauge on personality that way).

I really enjoyed watching this. yeah sure, the ending was obvious but I was still glued to the screen. I also felt super weird watching this, kinda surreal because we are basically living a more harmless version of this rn. I really liked seeing sofia carson in such a movie, I’ve only seen her in the descendants so this was a bit of a change haha. I’m not that big of a fan of kj but he was great as well and i really loved his characters style.

I put it on because I wanted to have some background noise while playing sims but I ended up playing like 20 minutes and then just watching the movie haha I forgot how good it was, and the others as well, aaand I totally forgot carl urban was in it, so that was a little surprise. anyways, can recommend watching them if you’re into sci-fi action movies but at the same time, if you’re into that I’m pretty sure you’ve already watched them.

okay... I did enjoy watching it! the beginning was a little slow imo but then it just got more and more intense which was kinda nice. god, at some point the main guy kept making the wrong decisions and that was very frustrating to watch. the ending was alright, spoiler ahead (I guess) I would have liked the ending more if it was the exact same as the beginning, meaning that the movie is just one big time loop and the events from the movie were about to repeat themselves. but that's just my opinion🤷🏻‍♀️

Set in the year 2092 and follows the crew of a space junk collector ship called The Victory. When they discover a humanoid robot named Dorothy that's known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal.

I really loved this movie. I cried like 6 times haha, which came unexpected. (or maybe it's because I'm suppose to get my period any day now) I did not think I was going to enjoy this movie as much as I did, at all. it was fun, it was exciting, it was sad (even my dad said that) the plot was good, the visual effects were amazing, it did feel like I was watching this movie for like 5 hours but not in a bad way and I am now kinda emotionally attached to the characters haha (I might do a rewatch). another thing I really liked was the language/synchronization. in the original version they speak mostly korean and english but also some other languages and it's the same in the synchronizations. the dialogue of the main characters is in the language you pick but every other character (I guess) is a different language and I absolutely love that. I highly recommend watching this!!
also, its was super weird seeing Richard Armitage not as a dwarf hahaha

I binged the series the other day and after the last episode this movie was in the "watch next" thingy idk and I thought "well, why not" and watched it. good movie, definitely!! I really liked that they didn't show the highs of doing heroin but focused on the negative effects it has on someone and what it's doing to your body. it is a super realistic but very very dark movie. the actors were all about 15/16 years old and looked very young which was a good and kinda disturbing thing because christiane and her friend were like 13/14 when that all happened and it made you realise that there were kids doing all that stuff

I am tired and don't really want to say all that much other than both of them are very good and I do like them. good action/adventure movies. can definitely recommend them. I definitely like the first one more because it feels like (just a little bit) that the main story in the second one is the same as in the first one, someone creates a new dinosaur species to make more money and something goes terribly wrong along the way. but it's still entertaining!

SERIOUS and OFFICIAL RE3 Creep Review
Resident Evil 3 Remake is a good and fun game that I have already dedicated more energy into than all of RE2 Remake.
However. We can’t leave it at that so here’s a stupid long post.
First off: This will not include any mention of the freebie multiplayer game bundled in, RE: Resistance, a game that I unfortunately like but also realize it adds absolutely nothing to the purchase of this game itself.
Second: I have no goddamn idea what other people are saying about this game because I haven’t even clicked on the steam store page to see the general review scores. I don’t have twitter, and I refuse to watch reviews. All I know is vague youtube titles I’ve seen in my feed. That’s it.
Third of all: Everything I’ve ever written on here is disjointed and confusing so buckle the fuck up.
Oh. And spoilers.
To start this story we must go back to everyone’s favorite year, 2003, when RE3 released on the Gamecube and I was in third grade. Watching my cousin play it when he stayed over was my first actual experience with the series. And Nemesis was, like, really fucking scary at the time because I was a child. I bring this up because as you all might know, I’m a bit of an obsessed weirdo sometimes. This is where it started for me, so RE3 is kind of a big deal for me personally. Conceptually, this game means kind of a lot to me I guess.
As a “remake”, RE3 does, like, a terrible fucking job at being one of those. This is flat out, just, not a remake. At all. It’s a re-imagining. It would be easier to count the things they included from the original over the things they cut, that’s how different it is. OG RE3 had like. Three environments. And the remake just straight up cuts one of them and slaps a different character in the other. Alright I guess. We don’t see Brad get killed by Nemesis, because that just… doesn’t happen anymore. Jill doesn’t go to the police station… at all even. There’s no missile countdown during the final boss fight which was my favorite part because it was like. I know it was just a glorified timer but it was much scarier to me than the self destruct timer? Idk for some reason the concept of a missile destroying the whole ass city is an idea that genuinely just kind of freaks me out to this day.
This will sounds very hyperbolic but the ending was kind of garbage. Mr. Paul I love my Wife Anderson did a shot for shot recreation of the original ending and I guess I was just expecting something like that instead we got. Not. That. I don’t know if these complaints are valid but they are things I’ve been thinking about a lot. Half that scene straight up just takes place in a map that is just an empty white void. If that after the credits scene wasn’t a possible hint at a Code Veronica remake I will riot. CV is my other favorite game (conceptually. CV itself is a completely fucking unplayable nightmare game).
There’s no helicopter fight. There’s no gravedigger. There’s no giant spiders. There’s one bonus costume. Hell, there frankly isn’t even a lot of Raccoon City at all.
I guess it is short. My first play through was 4ish hours of logged gameplay and 6ish hours of total playtime with cutscenes and nemesis chases which apparently pause the timer since they’re basically QTEs? This doesn’t really bother me like it does other people. I don’t have a lot of free time anymore. Everyone fucking hates that this game is short from what I’ve seen? Idk. (It’s no shorter than RE2. RE2 just seems longer since you can be Leon or Claire but their stories are basically identical. B scenario in RE2 Remake was a fucking joke.)
Buuut… I really, really like this game.  Carlos is fine. He’s in this game. I still don’t like him that much but he’s the best of the male sidekicks. Maybe I like him more than Leon. He isn’t offensive or anything I just don’t stan him as hard as everyone on here seems to. Mikhail is way, way better now. Love how he knows who Jill is. Nikolai has… good facial mocap I guess. He’s certainly in the game and is evil and Russian again so no change there. Tyrel is a character who does things and is in scenes. He seems nice. He’s doing his best. And then there’s Jill. Who got the best treatment of anything in this entire game. Not like, physically of course, her ribs are absolutely destroyed and her spine has been snapped several times after all of that shit they put her through in the cutscenes.
I loved, loved, loved the opening. So much. Jill’s apartment. Her nightmares. The fact her life is in shambles. I’ve gushed about this before but I genuinely loved how the game opened. It’s everything I could have asked for and so much more. It’s an idea I’ve toyed w/ before in one of the only finished stories I’ve ever put on AO3 and I’m so glad to see it acknowledged canonically. I just. Ugh. I loved it.
Everything she says is beautiful and perfect and sassy and sometimes angry and it’s just. Good. They let Jill say fuck and she became unstoppable. Also she at least still says the You want S.T.A.R.S. line. It’s way, way, way early, in a scene that makes no sense for it to be in at all. But she says it. And I liked that she said it. I’m easy.
That stupid railgun bullshit at the end?? I was streaming it live and just exclaimed “is this game even real???” because I was just so all about it. We’re all still giggling at “Bitch can’t even swim.”
It’s fun to play as Jill and do sick dodge rolls. I’ve gone through this game four times now, once on each base difficulty and again on Assisted with just the hot-dogger fire knife w/o healing. Sick dodge rolls make the game very easy if you don’t fuck them up. I always fuck them up. But, still. I feel like all the bits are there from RE2 but just better. I intend to go through the game on the other two difficulties. Wish me luck. I am frankly terrified. But I want to do it.
Two of the nemesis fights are just straight up identical though. Which is. Okay. Sure. Whatever.
This game only had two puzzles for reasons I do not understand. The subway puzzle was the hardest of the two. It is the first puzzle in the game. Arguably, it is the only puzzle in the game because it is the only one you have to think about for more than 11 seconds to solve.
When the credits play the new version of Free from Fear I genuinely forget every weird problem I have with this game because it’s just… so good. Once again. I am easy.
This whole thing probably sounds like more complaints than praise for a game I’ve put this much time into, and maybe it is, but it is easier to talk about about something bad about a game than to pinpoint what you liked. And I love to complain as we all know. This is horrible as a remake. It’s great as a follow up to RE2 Remake probably. I think plenty of people already disagree with that. But plenty of people like to just be wrong on the internet.
Speaking of RE2 remake why did Pale Heads return from.. the ghost survivors dlc of all the fucking things. That’s just weird. They were a weird inclusion. Maybe I’m not totally surprised something like that made it over but it’s still… weird. They’re fine as an enemy type. I just ignored them though.
I think that for me it is just enough to have good and fun characters that I enjoy. I just. Like how Jill is written. And honestly, that’s kinda just all I need. It doesn’t really matter to me that this game is something of a horrible amalgamation of vaguely borrowed concepts from the original game. Sure, the RE1 remake is great because it’s mostly completely faithful, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only way to do it. Re-imaginings like this can also be good. This one is good. It’s fun.
There are a strange amount of tentacles in this game to the point where I wonder if someone on the dev team just straight up had a fetish. Especially after you get the lockpick. That scene is. Um. Yeah. It’s in the game.
Is that really how I’m going to end this? Talking about the tentacle fetish?
Yeah.

October 24: Friday the 13th Part VI - Jason Lives
(previous notes: Friday the 13th - A New Beginning)
This, my fortunate acquaintances, is my lovingly prepared gift to you. These words, composed from the heart with precious little advance preparation, are meant to reflect my sincere and scholarly reactions to the Friday the 13th slasher movies of Hollywood, America.
So yeah, I'm watching the Friday the 13th movies and posting my extemporaneous (though cleaned up a bit after the fact) notes. We're at the sixth movie in the series. I caught some of this on cable when I was in high school and I remember telling people it was the worst movie of all time, even though I probably only watched a half-hour middle chunk of it. It's probably much, much better than I'd given it credit for. It's probably so good. It is probably so god damned good. My upper lip is trembling as I engage the “play” functionality on my movie playing device.
So far my favorite thing about it is that it's on the same disc as the previous movie so I didn't have to change discs. Ooh, I bet that means it isn't too long either!
It starts with some quick, effective exposition. It's Tommy and a friend of his, driving somewhere. It's not even the same actor that played Tommy last time, but they are very clear with the dialogue that they have sneaked out of the institution to go to Jason's grave and "send him to hell". The friend has clownish mannerisms. Whenever they want us to think someone's funny, they don't actually use creativity to generate humor. Someone just tells someone to behave the way funny people behave.
Ooh, they came to Jason's grave and dug it up. They open the coffin and hoo boy that is a very maggoty, wormy corpse.
Remember, Jason wasn't even in the last movie in a he's-real way. So the last we saw of him was when younger-Tommy killed him all by himself two movies ago. The acting by this Tommy actor guy is effectively conveying that that was a big deal for him.
Oh my god, the movie just got way worse. In a Shakespearean moment of passion, Tommy stabs the corpse of Jason with a spear-rod-thing that was in the graveyard. But lightning strikes it and it reanimates Jason! Other than being very rot-faced behind the hockey mask, Jason is now the same old Jason we've come to know and love. Clownish guy tries to club him, but Jason just shoves his boney arm through Clownish Guy's body really easily. Tommy runs away…
…and two fast movie references happen. For some reason, a music cue uses that same memorable theme that was used in The Shining that's actually something else; the idea clearly is "we'll use the Shining music in here". It’s Beethoven or something, right? But also, the title happens and is an overt lampooning of the openings of the James Bond series. The whole looking through the gun sight thing, but it's Jason throwing a machete instead of James Bond shooting his gun. This movie comparing itself to those movies is pretty haughty.
Tommy goes to the police, and they don't care what he says, he's trouble! They lock him up! I don't think he mentioned that his friend got killed.
Now a middle-class-looking couple is driving through the woods. The guy is played by Tony Goldwyn whose career as an actor and director has risen well above this movie. Wasn't he like the main guy on the show Scandal? Anyway, he doesn't last long in this movie; Jason blocks their way and stabs the car, and then stabs TG, and then stabs the girl. With a spear, each of them. Probably the one that helped reanimate him.
Uh oh, the cop who locked up Tommy has a daughter who is in a group of camp counselors! They're going to go be camp counselors at a nearby camp! They are flip about the legendary murders! No one will listen to Tommy!
0:19:55 - Here's a twist… the counselors get to the camp and continue to joke dismissively about murder… and a bus arrives full of children! This movie is going to take place when the kids are actually at the camp! We haven't seen that before. Why did I ever say anything bad about this movie.
Nearby there are some corporate business people playing paintball as a work retreat! Jason is watching them. Ch. Ha. One of them we never even see speak to anyone runs into Jason and Jason kills him by grabbing him by the arm and throwing him face first into a tree so hard that his face just liquefies, plus the arm comes off.
So here's what happens next - a group of three paintballers gets killed by Jason who just shows up in front of them and machetes them all in one swipe. But nearby there is another paintballer who we saw a little bit before, and he is a comically bumbling buffoon. Like, when they cast him, they got the ten nerdiest looking men they could find and told them to all act as bumblingly foolish as possible, and they cast the one who was the most bumblingly foolish. But he gets away.
The plot kind of stays around Jason's grave because the gravedigger had come upon the disturbed grave and cleaned it up. He muttered a monologue about making sure no one thought he was a bad gravedigger. Now this movie is comparing itself to Hamlet. So now Tommy tries to convince the cop/dad that his story about Jason is true... but the grave is normal looking and that contradicts Tommy’s story. What a disaster for Tommy. But that gravedigger sure saved face.
0:30:00 - Now it's nighttime and some people are in the woods. There's this new couple, which includes a guy played by a TV personality named Roger Rose that I recognized when I saw this scene back then. It is stunt casting, and yet he is an extremely obscure personality for us in 2020. But also the gravedigger is just wandering in the woods all drunk. Jason kills them all. He's just been using the machete; there's no ingenuity about death types on these last ones. And they're just quick scares. Just kind of unremarkable. Part of what you’re looking forward to if you like these movies is the revelation of how he kills someone, but we’re missing out on so much of that sweet joy.
We return to the camp and see the kids asleep in their barracks. I so dare you to convince me that there is a better word than “barracks” for this room full of kid beds. Anyway, one of the kids, age approximately 7, had fallen asleep reading No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre! What kind of nutty Friday the 13th movie is this anyway.
Young couple doing an odd sex dance to 80s music in an RV. Perfect fodder for Jason. Ch ch ch ch ch! Ha ha ha ha ha! Jason cuts the power cord to the RV so they can't do their sex bop. They are afraid so they drive away, but Jason is inside! The guy is driving and reveling in the fact that he chose loud rock music to listen to as they drive away, but Jason kills the girl by pressing her face so hard into the wall of the RV that it makes an imprint. Then he kills the guy, still driving the car, with a knife right through the head. Very quick edits, minimal gore. The RV overturns but Jason emerges triumphantly.
News of the last bunch of murders has already reached DadCop, and he concludes that Tommy is doing murders in a Jason-esque manner just to "prove" that "Jason" is "real". You can't fool DadCop; he has seen it all before.
One thing I remember noticing back in the 80s is that Jason was invariably shot in a very stark, non-dramatic way. Just a character like the other ones. He's not shadowy or mysterious. Earlier movies achieved more tension by doing POV shots instead of just regular he-is-walking shots.
Tommy and Daughter had a conversation on the phone that sets up that the two of them are going to collaborate on Tommy's plan. Daughter is pretty committed, but also her whole attitude is inappropriately amused. She's smiling about everything like "ooh fun what exciting hijinks are we getting into, whatever it is I'm game".
One of Daughter's counselor friends just got killed. Jason pulled her through the window from outside and twisted her head right off her body. I think Jason is stronger than he's been in other movies.
Daughter and Tommy totally get busted by her father. She thought she could get away with going somewhere but DadCop is too smart for her. No going-somewhere for you, Daughter!
For a second there we saw Jason skulking around the actual sleeping kids, but then he is seen skulking somewhere else. A Little Blond Girl seems to be a little observant about creepy goings-on so she has been complaining, and Jason keeps an eye on that situation ch ch ch ha ha ha.
0:56:45 - Hey, I like this couple of shots! A counselor is reassuringly tucking Little Blond Girl in, and as she stands up, Jason is watching them through the window. Right next to her and very big and visible, but the counselor isn’t facing the window, so she doesn’t see him. She walks through the room and we see Jason through other windows following her, they did a good job.
A couple of minutes of spooky, decently-filmed suspense happens as that counselor is alone and worried. That ends with Jason coming in and Jasoning her. A smear of blood appears on a window, and a moment later her body gets thrown through it in a way that truly looks icky.
Tommy and Daughter came up with a cunning plan to bust out of jail and continue working on Tommy's End Jason Once And For All project. We see the movie's attempt to give them romantic tension, and although it isn't very good, I've probably seen worse. I've seen a lot of movies. I've seen I Love Trouble.
DadCop and two deputies get to the camp just in time because the kids are now without any counselors. The two deputies go separately to search the grounds and one of them gets killed with an arrowhead or something like that in the head, Jason flings it with admirable precision at his forehead. The other one actually found Little Blond Girl who tells him about the scary man. Then the scary man is there! The deputy shoots Jason several times from just a foot away but nothing happens to Jason. Jason grabs the deputy's head and just smooshes it. This exact thing has happened to me several times.
DadCop comes upon Jason and shoots him with a shotgun. That causes Jason to lie down on the ground for 1.5 seconds, then get back up again. DadCop tries this several more times with the same results, then runs away.
The kids are scared and hiding, but one of them has a couple of uninspired wisecracks that I could type out here for you but my fingers won't let me, they know I would regret it, they know me so well these fingers.
Also Tommy and Daughter have arrived and seem to not be unified about how to proceed. While they are working through that difficulty, Jason found DadCop and killed him by folding him at the waist in a way that honestly probably wouldn't be immediately fatal but it looks so awkward that you'd probably just want to be dead, just think how people would stare.
Tommy is on a boat trying to lure Jason into the actual lake where he had drowned, and he has a chain-plus-boulder contraption that he has prepared for the occasion. Also part of the plan involves drizzling some gasoline onto the surface of the water and lighting it. Jason walks into the middle of the lake toward him and Tommy lights the lake on fire. That must be possible because I'm seeing it with my own eyes.
After using their arm limbs to flail at each other, Tommy actually succeeds in throwing the chain-boulder-thing around Jason and anchoring him to the bottom of the lake! But somehow he can't extricate himself from Jason's grasp and very quickly drowns. Also the boat broke in half.
Daughter swims over there to try to save Tommy and Jason grabs at her while still anchored. A series of deliberately unrevealing angles makes it look like she can, and does, start up the boat engine and kill Jason with the propeller. She then drags Tommy to shore and saves him.
But Jason is still anchored down there, we see, and he's alive and looking at the stuff that is in front of his face. That's the end of the movie! I think they sincerely hope that you had a good time watching it, and also they sincerely don't mind if you don't ever think about it again for the rest of your life.

Haven DVD Commentaries; 5.05 - The Old Switcheroo (Part I)
Notes on the commentary with Adam Copeland (Dwight), Adam Higgs (Writer), and Bian Millikin (Executive Story Editor). Officially this commentary is just with the two Adams, but Brian is there as well (setting up the equipment??) and joins in after a while. 
(It is possible I’ve mixed Brian and Adam Higgs up sometimes, sometimes all the different voices blur together a bit in my head. Adam Copeland’s is easier to separate because his is more familiar.)
AH: We’re going to give a shout out to Cindy McCreery and Scott Shepherd who wrote these two episodes (we’re just talking about 505 right now, but we’ll get to 506 in a bit), and they sadly couldn’t be with us today but we’re going to do our best. AC: This is very important to the Havenites; pancakes. And the fact that they are not enjoyed [by Mara] which is very strange because Audrey loves her pancakes, but Mara doesn’t. AH: Do you like pancakes? AC: I devour pancakes. Some call me the master of pancakes. Yeah I’m like Paul Bunyan. AH: What do you put in a pancake? AC: Well I usually just buy them because I would butcher it, and I know that going in.
AC: That is the Grey Gull. AH: And it’s a grey day. AC: Which in Nova Scotia is not necessarily that strange, but a beautiful place, one of my favourite places and favourite sets. I actually contemplated buying the Grey Gull because it’s for sale. But I think there’s no plumbing, or no toilet. AH: That would be a bit of a difficulty. AC: Yeah. So that was my reason for not buying the Grey Gull. What do you think about that Brian Millikin? BM: I think that was a smart investment move on your part. AC: That’s Brian Millikin, sitting in the rafters. AH: There’s Manteo. Who do we know who has ties to North Carolina? Brian Millikin, maybe you and Nick Parker (another illustrious writer on the show)? BM: I love the way North Carolina looks just like Nova Scotia. AH: Yes, we did not actually go to North Carolina to shoot these episodes. AC: If we had it would have been closer to my home in Ashville, so it would have been a lot easier for me. AH: We should have just shot at your house.
AC: Ah, Richard Donat, aka Vince Teagues, one of my favourite men that I’ve ever met. Such a quiet and strong presence on set. He pretty much just rocks. I’ve been told that’s what I will look like when I’m his age. AH: Maybe it’s time travel. You’re a younger version of Richard, sent from the past? Or the future? AC: Yeah. It could be the case. That could be a spoiler alert. *laughs all round* AC: OK. It’s not. But it could be! Who knows; Dwight Teagues. I just heard all your minds blowing out there, Havenites. AH: Well there is a lot in this season; we’ve got a lot of father/son dynamics between the two  of you. Maybe it could explain it. AC: It could explain all of it. AH: Both leaders of the Guard at different times. I’m just saying. AC: Yeah, the alpha male, banging of heads. We both have large craniums. You know, it could fit. AH: I like this theory.
AC: North Carolina was a nice change of pace, to take it out of Maine. AH: I haven’t been on the show very long, but Brian Millikin who has, and is still sitting in the rafters, how many times have we left Haven on the show? BM: I’m going to go ahead and say this is the second time ever. We went to Boston at the beginning of season four. AC: Brian was actually on a swing hanging from the rafters of the building, and he’s now hopped off so he’s back with us.
[As we see Vince and Dave switching bodies] AC: This is one of my favourite bits actually, because John Dunsworth (Dave) and Richard are just amazing, and I love them both. So to see them inhabit each other’s characters was fun. AH: And this was a nice episode too, because one of the things we wanted to do was give them a bit of a spotlight epsiode. We never get to spend as much time as we want to with the brothers Teagues and we decided, well let’s do it - let’s have them drive a plot and have fun with it.
[As Vince knocks his head on the doorframe in the cafe] AH: I love that gag. We had so much fun with the height thing when we were coming up with this episode. AC: But it makes total sense, that’s the great part of it. If you were that tall and suddenly you’re in a frame … you know because Richard is 6’3”, 240 pounds; he’s a huge man. And John is, not. [As Gloria comes up to talk to Vince in Dave’s body] AC: Ah, I love Jayne Eastwood, I love Gloria. This is a combination I’d been dying to see together, just because of the comedic talent involved. These two, they’re comedic … we’ll I’ll say legends, in Canada. Both so funny, so I was really looking forward to that short interaction. AH: And it’s been fun, it’s the miscommunications and it’s very much a farce kind of episode. Besides the murder and death. AC: Besides the choking and murdering and psychiatric wards, you know. AH: And this is not the first time we’ve been to the Freddy. I look again to Brian Millikin who has moved down from the rafters. BM: This is the first time since season one, episode three. AC: Wow, you are a fountain of Haven knowledge my friend. BM: I have been here since the very beginning. AC: A veritable fountain. BM: I’m going to cut in though for a second, I’ll say this much; as someone who has been here from the very beginning, the body swap idea for an episode is sort of the low-hanging fruit for any genre show, any supernatural show will eventually get there. And we always knew that we were going to have to do it at some point in time. People were asking, they asked at comic book conventions and they asked on twitter. They asked in the street. When are you going to do it? Primarily because of Duke and Nathan. They have history with each other, they’re both great characters, strong actors. It just made sense that they would have to switch places at some point. Especially because Nathan can’t feel anything. But we just needed a time, like we needed the story to make sense. We didn’t want to do it just to do it, we wanted there to be a reason, so it did feel like we were just doing the thing. Like, our groundhog day episode is another low-hanging fruit of a genre show but it felt like it really fit in the moment because of the story we were telling. So we were super-lucky that this one came into play. We knew that we were going to do this Vince and Dave road trip, but we needed to tie what they were doing to what was going on in Haven. And that’s where we started thinking, now we can do the body swap. And then, we didn’t want to just do Vince and Dave, we didn’t want to just do Nathan and Duke, we wanted to somehow work in Dwight. We were like, who do we do? We can’t do Mara, because she’s immune to the Troubles. So who else is there. And then we were like; oh my god. We now have Jayne Eastwood, we added her last year. So we were like; what if we swapped Dwight and Gloria? And as soon as that came out of someone’s mouth, our showrunners Matt and Gab were like, So we’re definitely doing that; we’re doing this episode, and that’s happening before the Nathan/Duke swap. And as soon as we landed on that, there was no turning back. [As we see the swapped Dwight and Gloria walk up to each other, Gloria checking out her new face in the mirror] AC: This was an interesting shot, because Eric Cayla our DP was on a handheld and had to whip around and follow me, so the timing on that was really interesting. BM: You were so good in this episode. AC: This was my favourite ad lib. AH: I love that. BM: So funny. AC: That was an ad lib, no one knew that I was going to grab my crotch, but thankfully they went down with me and I saw they went down and I thought; OK good, I hope they use that take. And they did. BM: Now, I heard a rumour, I don’t know if it’s true but as soon as we heard it we were like; I hope it’s true. Because we heard that you went back and watched episodes of Haven that she was in, to sort of learn her tricks. AC: I did. I watched all of her scenes. I tried to stand like her and pick up her mannerisms BM: You can tell. AH: Yeah, all those funny little touches. AC: The way that she’s just kind of over it. And her kind of sarcastic nature. But after watching her episodes, I tried to relate her to a male actor who I could then watch and see how a man would do it. BM: Such a good idea. AC: And so she was De Niro from Meet the Parents. BM: Yeah! AC: So then I watched Meet The Parents, and I watched how De Niro acted. And I tried to take her stance with hands on hips and slouched forward a little bit, and tried to maintain that posture throughout, which was … I did forget sometimes. But this was a lot of fun when I found out this was going to be happening. I knew the comedic potential on this. Which up until this point as Dwight, I haven’t really had the ability to show. BM: Yeah, a couple jokes but that’s it. AC: Yeah, so I was really looking forward to sinking my teeth into this because I don’t know if anyone really knew if I had comedy in me. And in WWE initially my character was all comedy. So it was nice to be able to dip back into that. [As Nathan is getting Mara out of the bronco] BM: Well look and even in the background of this shot right there [Adam in his hands on hips stance] AC: Yeah she would stand sometimes with her hands on her lower back, so I really just tried to watch everything that she would do. BM: Well, we just got such a kick out of watching it. Or even writing it. Because this was the only one where it was a gender swap also. And a real age swap. You know, Duke and Nathan are the same age. So, this was really going for it. And you crushed it. I remember when the dailies would come in and we would just pause what we were doing in the writing room and we would just put them up and watch them. We were just having so much fun with it. AC: Well it was interesting because Dwight as a character is kind of reserved and close to the vest, so it was more of a challenge for Jayne to figure out how to pull of Dwight. Because he’s not very over the top in anything that he does, and that was by design, that’s how I always tried to attack Dwight. So it was a big challenge for Jayne I think because Gloria’s character there’s so much to work with, there’s so much to play with. And with Vince and Dave there’s so much to play with. [On screen Vince is checking the wound on Dave’s leg] That was pretty nasty. Great job by the makeup department. It looked really gross that day too. I was like; that looks disgusting. [As Vince is answering Dave’s phone] Is that a Blackberry? AH: Well this is taking place in the past. What year is this actually in Brian Millikin? BM: This would be the year 2011, going on 2012. AC: OK. BM: Despite the fact that it aired in 2014. AH: And this is something we would constantly have to remind ourselves when we were writing the show, like - wait a minute it’s not 2014, it’s actually … And we’d just all look at Brian. BM: It’s a real problem in serialised TV shows. Like Lost, the first three years took place over 90 days. AC: Wow. And that’s always a challenge too from the performance aspect for the continuity. And also just in each show, because everything’s shot out of sequence. So you’re always questioning, what did we just come from? What did we just do? Why are we here? And that can be a huge thing to keep track of sometimes. And thankfully there’s people on it, as well as you’re supposed to be on it too. But, it can get lost sometimes.
AH: There’s a lot of little humour things, just Mara reading the “Me, Myself & I” schizophrenia brochure. I think in a lot of ways these are probably our most humorous episodes of the season, which was a lot of fun. We can be very grim and gritty some days and just to take a step back and come up with some of the little goofs and gags for what everyone can do once they’re swapped was a lot of fun. AC: Well yeah Haven can be a pretty heavy place, so when you can kind of lighten that weight a little bit it’s nice. [As we see Nathan talking to Audrey in the Freddy] This was a really interesting change for Emily. And you can just see the switch in her eyes which was really great. AH: Yeah credit to her acting there. AC: Because you knew instantly; something just happened. Just from the look in her eyes. AH: Yeah; that’s Audrey not Mara. Which is not an easy thing to do, and she pulled it off. And it became very complicated on the page when we were going, OK so these people are in different bodies but now this is Mara, but Audrey’s come to the surface. And trying to keep that whole piece together was interesting. Brian do you want to tell the story here? Or just give a little insight into the behind the scenes scriptwork that had to be done on the formatting of the scripts here. BM: Oh my gosh, well maybe it showed our level of inexperience with bodyswap episodes from other shows that have done them before; we probably should have looked at them. But one issue that we ran into was that it happened with so many different characters, you know a lot of shows it’ll just be Sam and Dean Winchester from Supernatural or whatever. But we eventually got hold of the Freaky Friday scripts, the original one way back when, just to see how they did it. Because the problem we ran into was that you couldn’t tell from reading the script who was who. We got the script in, and it was great, but at no point could you ever tell what character was saying what to whom or why. And so it was impossible. A script is like a blueprint and you need to be able to read it and know what you’re seeing on screen. And when the actors read it at a table read, they need to be able to know who is who. And it was impossible. Because, when it was you speaking in the scene right now Adam, it would have said Gloria then parentheses Dwight. And then you’re talking to Gloria parentheses Dwight. And it was just like; I don’t know what’s going on here. So we eventually had it just say Dwight in quotation marks. It was important for it to say who it is that you’re looking at, so that you [Adam] knew you’re still reading the Dwight dialogue but we’ve got these quotes around it so you know that’s not quite Dwight. AC: And what was interesting was, Gloria in Dwight’s body, she doesn’t have bad eyes but she instinctively goes to squint. So those were little things that Dwight’s not used to wearing glasses, so just all of those little things that we tried to add in. Gloria’s always so bemused which, I knew it would be so much fun to play her. And it was. BM: That’s amazing. We kind of didn’t know how far to go with some of the gags. Like with the bathroom gag. How much … would she check herself out? What are we doing here? What show are we working on? So I think we went too far and then pulled it back.
AH: I remember the table read for this was a lot of fun. AC: And it was interesting at the table read to see everyone take on the other character and to see the reaction from the other person watching their character and their mannerisms be recreated at this table read. It was actual fun to be a fly on the wall for it. AH: And I don’t know if we’re doing the bloopers this year but some of the stuff between takes were just as fun. Like; I do that? What are you doing? I do that?
[As Gloria in Dwight’s body is finishing up her milkshake] BM: We loved the idea that she was put into like, Captain America’s body. Like a super soldier so she can now just do whatever she wants. At one point we were she was going to be eating doughnuts and stuff in every scene. AH: Every single scene. AC: Thank you for not doing that to me. BM: Pizza. AH: Yeah it was just non stop. Burgers. AC: I think that was actually ice tea that I was slurping because I wanted to do a nice long exaggerated slurp on it. This was a lot of fun to do this episode, it really was. As we’ve talked about because it was such a departure from the norm. And I think a chance for the audience to just take a breath. AH: Yeah because it was about to get heavy. AC: Yeah and you kind of need that small gap to take a breath, reboot, get ready for… AH: And just have some fun with the characters. AC: Yeah. And see a different side of them too.
AH: Now I remember Brian, and fill me in if you recall this stuff too, but in the room we also played a lot with the distance between Haven and North Carolina. BM: Are you asking to insert an apology to people who live on the East coast? Because we make it seem like they can get around a lot faster. The distance between coastal Maine and the outer banks of North Carolina, that’s … you so could not do that in a single day. AC: I’ve driven it. And it’s not a fast drive. There was also debate about how to pronounce Manteo *tries out different possibilities* AH: That’s right. But we had experts in the room, thankfully. AC: Yeah. But there were a few takes where the wrong pronunciation still snuck in. AH: And the other one was Croatoan that we had in this episode as well. Where there was a pronunciation issue. BM: That’s right. It’s a pretty popular local legend down in that part of the world, that’s where I’m from. I had not know that it was … There was a lot of people working on the show who didn’t really know about it. AH: I had not heard about it. And I remember being in the room and everyone talking about it as if it was something everyone should know about. And I think I pretended for the first hour and then opened up the Wikipedia … Ah, I see. BM: We were shooting the last episode before this one, when Croatoan first gets named dropped, when Sleepy Hollow had an episode where they also dealt with it. They go to the lost colony and everything else, and we all slapped our foreheads because we thought we were so clever. So that was very upsetting.
[As Duke and Nathan are talking while Mara is asleep] AC: By the way; Lucas Bryant and those cheekbones. AH: *laughs* full stop. AC: I always bust his chops. AH: The fans love his cheekbones. AC: They do. You could … It’s like climbing a cliff, those cheekbones. Essentially my job, besides being Dwight, was trying to bust Lucas Bryant’s chops BM: It’s an important job. AC: It is, someone had to do it. AH: You guys’re from really close to each other, right? AC: Yeah, we … for the Americans we grew up about 20 miles apart. AH: That’s crazy. AC: Yeah. Unbeknownst to us. We didn’t know. So we obviously hit it off pretty quickly because we both watched Polka Dot Door growing up as a child. All the Canadians will be going whoop whoop. AH: Yeah, the Polka Dot Door! Polkaroo! AC: Polkaroo! *The two Adams start singing what I assume is the theme tune* AC: Casey and Finnegan. The Friendly Giant. The Friendly Giant made us both cry as a matter of fact. Being both sensitive souls, and creative souls as Lucas and I are, we cried during the music for The Friendly Giant. AH: I remember when he passed away, that was very sad. It was a great show. AC: Yeah. *another snippet of song*. There’s so many people right now going; What the hell is he talking about? While we’re on the subject i also loved the Hilarious House of Frankenstein. You’d like it Brian. AH: You would actually. That would be right up your alley. BM: You guys are speaking a different language. AC: Yes. It’s southern Ontarian. AH: Now you know how it feels when you mention Croatoan to a Canadian.
BM: I’m going to add one other comment here. Since we’re looking at Emily Rose as Audrey/Mara. She was one of the other reasons why we did this bodyswap episode. She in a sense for this entire season, got to do that. I think it’s a nice thing to be able to deliver to one of your actors that they (especially in the fifth season of a show) get to play a different character. And we sort of felt, almost a little bad that it was just her. And even the year before with the Lexie/Audrey of it all. And so I think emotionally we wanted to deliver a bodyswap two parter just so that you and Lucas and Eric got to do some of that too. We didn’t want her just to have all the fun. AC: Well it is fun to throw on a different skin after you’ve worn that skin for four or five years. But there’s something uncomfortable about that too, but it’s a nice challenge. And I know Emily had fun with it too. AH: Absolutely, she killed it. AC: Because Mara was so different, and so evil, and so vile. BM: And big, you know? AC: Yes. BM: And she did a great job. AC: Yes. And I know she had a lot of fun with it. And it’s interesting too, although also the challenge of how she was so evil - I think that was a part of the challenge. Because, you know Emily in having to take on this evil character had to say things that were just horrible. Like talking about Dwight’s daughter and all of those things, I know it bothered her. And to be able to step up to the plate and do it, there’s something to be said for that.
AH: And there’s a doughnut! How many doughnuts did you eat? AC: It was about four. And that was the one where I got so deep into it, I knew that ... BM: It’s not easy to get the perfect amount of schmeer. AC: Well that was the one where it was so deep and I was like, I’m going to have to do the rest of the scene with chocolate all over my face. *much laughing over Gloria and Dwight in their swapped bodies* BM: We should have just kept you guys. AC: I think Nathan slash Lucas had a really good time being the straight man for it as well. Because he was the straight man for their interactions a lot of the time. BM: We so wanted to send you guys off to the crime scene. But there was just going to be so many people in those scenes it would have just taken forever, schedule-wise. But we wanted to get you guys in on the action. We wanted it so bad but we couldn’t do it. AC: Well in the morgue we got into some of it, with the mitts fitting the gloves and feeling like she could punch through ceilings. BM: And we wanted her to … or you, but Gloria’s body … to have to chase after a perp, run him down, you know, like an action sequence. Or you have to punch somebody and not know how strong you are. There could be an entire show. AC: Well and then the interesting aspect is, does she know how to throw a punch? Or does Dwight’s body just automatically know how? And there as a performer you go, well which is it? AH: It’s a good question. BM: I think it’s the former, not the latter. I think she would know what to do. It’s a different brain in there. AC: Right? Because it’s a different brain but instinctively, like with the glasses Dwight doesn’t need them but Gloria thought she did so she squinted but then realised she didn’t need to. So I think there would still be a moment of … um BM: I think we just came up with the Haven spinoff by the way. You two swap again; can’t switch back; solve crimes. AH: I would watch that. AC: I could work with Jayne Eastwood for the rest of my life without a doubt. BM: But you have to be swapped with her. AC: Yes. BM: But, we also like you as Dwight so maybe, go back and forth. AC: Yep, but the majority of the time if I got to play that, that would be a whole lot of fun.
[As Gloria and Dwight are on the video call with Vince and Dave] BM: I imagine this was a tough scene to shoot because there was nothing on that screen, right? AC: Yeah, it’s an empty computer. AH: And they add it in in post AC: And your eyeline on the computer has to be right, and all of those - sometimes those technical things are the most difficult becuase you’re acting to nothing.
AC: What’s interesting too is to see how over the seasons and years how everyone has grown. And not just from a character perspective but from a personal perspective. AH: You get to grow up a bit as a family, it’s nice. We were just talking before we came in here about how much older everyone’s kids are getting and everything. AC: Yeah. And well I mean Emily, they had their son. Beth and I we had our daughter. Lucas and Kirsty’s daughter has grown. And just all of the families that have grown or have started since the beginning of this show, it’s pretty incredible. AH: And it’s always interesting when you look at a show that lasts this long, with the crew sometimes relationships have formed, or there are kids because of relationships that have formed, and it’s just amazing to see the community that grows up around a television show. AC: Yeah it always felt good walking on set too. Because there was just a sense of comfort to it.
AC: Jayne really played straight so well. Because playing that straight when you’re someone that’s usually so animated, it’s hard. And she pulled it off, she really restrained her natural kind of … I guess her natural charisma.
[As Duke and Nathan are swapping bodies] AH: And I’m sure everyone at home was just waiting for this to happen. It just had to at some point. AC: And then at this particular moment as well. [As Duke in Nathan’s body realises he can’t feel] AH: And just a little tease of what’s to come with the Troubles not transferring with the soul. AC: This was a really interesting swap to watch, because Eric, Duke, has the same job as Jayne and Gloria had, in that Nathan is a very reserved character. So pulling back, because Duke is very animated, as you’ll see from Lucas’s portrayal of Duke, so it was pretty hilarious. On both sides. AC: The hands, that was what I really noticed. AH: The pointing is my favourite. AC: Yes, and the hands on the hips. And I know for Lucas that was a lot of fun. Because Nathan is a very reserved, stoic, contained character. And Duke is the opposite of that. BM: Yeah. Well, Lucas Bryant is also the opposite of that. AC: Yeah. Yes, Lucas is a complete moron *laughter*, so the fact that he gets to be more animated is much closer to his actual personality. It also goes to show that having acted and worked with someone for that long, how much you just inherently pick up from just spending so much time together as those characters. Even just those things like the delivery … AH: The delivery, the timing. And this was a good idea to have this early conversation between the two of them, just so that you can really see the difference. AC: Yeah, it was fun. And this was actually fun at the table read too. It was also really interesting because you get so used to seeing Duke as Duke, or Eric as Duke and Lucas as Nathan, it was interesting to see them play completely different characters. Like, there were times when I would go out to dinner with some of the crew and they’d see me without the bullet proof vest and be really surprised - because you get so used to it. You know, like; wow you wear real clothes, you don’t walk around in a bullet proof vest, I forgot. So when you inhabit those characters for so long it’s interesting to see all of that get flipped on it’s head. How about that orange house back there by the way? [Behind Eric’s head outside Audrey’s apartment]. AH: It’s kind of a scene stealer. AC: Yeah, right? That’s one of the great things about Nova Scotia too. You’ll have a purple house with seafoam green shutters. Which on paper sounds disgusting, but it works. BM: They pull it off. That house, we actually finally shot outside of it in …. Hmmm I don’t remember. AC: You don’t remember?! *surprised noises from both Adams* Woah. Hold on, record scratch. BM: Was it season three, at some point?
[As Vince in Dave’s body starts to get affected by the thinny] AC: I love that part! Because Vince does that! He would kind of do the tasmanian devil spin to get his mouth going sometimes, and John picked up on that. These two were so needed to the show. And always brought a sense of levity, but every time they popped up on screen I would smile.

TVD 3x03 Review
I’m skipping to 3x03 because me and initiumseries already did 3x02 in a drunk review even though for some reason I label it 3x03 (maybe I was still drunk when I uploaded it):

1. I like that when Damon asks Katherine where she is and she says, “Staring out your window, pining away” this fool actually looks around. She isn’t there, Damon.
2. I didn’t realize how whiny Nina is as Katherine until now, my god.
3. “Details are all a blur.” “Well that’s a crying shame.” Translation: YOU DON’T REMEMBER US, STEFAN?
4. Yeah I hate it but in 3x03, when Stefan’s feeding on that woman in the car, Paul is slick there because as an actor he’s relishing the opportunity in being bad, it works well for him.
5. Rebekah’s introduction is pretty good. Just rolling up on Stefan, licking his cheek and talking about the date he just killed. This is why I never understood why when people think of Bad Boy Stefan/Dark Stefan and his partner in crime they go to Katherine, it’s Rebekah he’s the “bad boy” with.
6. “Chicago was magical.” “Yeah well I’ll take your word for it.” Legit Klaus’ utter look of disappointment when Stefan brushes off Chicago is hilarious. Omg, those two.
7. Oh look Damon just in Elena’s bed, she’s clearly uncomfortable and he’s making a sexual joke. Omg totally in love!
8. Oh Look Damon rifling through Elena’s underwear drawer.
9. Caroline’s dad’s logic doesn’t make sense considering that Caroline isn’t going around killing people for blood. She uses blood bags. She has it under control. He can’t turn her into a non-vampire so this entire process is a waste of time.
10. I will say the shot of her being tortured by the sun was good.
11. Damon forcing Elena to read Stefan’s diary is literally just him trying to knock him down a peg in her eyes.
12. I was going to say I find it interesting that as a ripper Stefan would continue to write in his journal but in the ‘20s Stefan doesn’t have his humanity off, he’s just off the deep end with his ripper nature so he’s manic, which means he does feel and Stefan probably feels things the most profoundly on the show so it would make sense he’d journal.
13. Stefan as a Ripper is also just a bro. Which I find funny.
14. “What is this?” *shows a picture of Stefan and Klaus.” “I told you, Stefan, Chicago is a magical place.” LOL. Be boyfriends.
15. HA. Yo I’m sorry man but Stefan grabs Klaus and pulls him around to face him, Joseph’s face JUST looks turned on. They can’t help this shit and it’s HILARIOUS.
16. They tried to recreate the Klebekah scene with Steroline but the latter felt flat for SO many reasons. First of all, with Klebekah, their victim is panting, which adds a really disturbing sense of eroticism to the scene. Second of all, Stefan starts touching Rebekah AS they feed on this woman. Third of all, Claire and Paul just had better chemistry.
17. “I’m bored, I want to go.” “Then go without me I’m not your girlfriend.” Says Rebekah to her brother meanwhile her brother and Stefan are eye-fucking the shit out of each other after Stefan and Rebekah were getting off on killing an innocent woman. Legit the three of them together are MESSY.
18. There is so much inappropriate tension in this scene.
19. And again, Klaus looks so turned on at Stefan committing violence, he STAYS adjusting himself, like omg.
20. This is the second Black female bartender that Damon’s flirted with that’s ended up dead.
21. I think what I actually enjoy about Elena reading Stefan’s ripper diaries is that she flips through it looking for hope (one of their fundamental themes) and she gets to the 30s where Stefan says the bloodlust is easier and Lexi’s onto her next project, which is getting him to laugh and she smiles, assured. I like it because she didn’t have to see that he was “cured” she just had to see that he was better.
22. The closet scene! AND their love theme plays. 3x03 is definitely not an underrated scene among SErs but I always like talking about how layered it is in terms of the characters and in terms of chemistry. I bring it up a lot because Lupita Nyong’o brought up a point about chemistry:
“Chemistry is something that you pray for as an actor because it is so hard to fabricate. It’s so much easier to just have it and then, you know, work on other things, on your intention and your action and all that. Trying to fabricate chemistry is just … it adds another … it’s a lot of energy.”
And I think a prime example of this is 3x03 because even the way Nina spoke about the scene, about how at that point, it had been the longest time she and Paul had gone without filming a scene together so seeing him really felt like seeing him for the first time and the feeling of the scene

And like I’ve said before, Elena being in the closet is Stefan’s past/his darkness and his future/his light converging in one space.
But also what I like about SE and the way TVD had written them is they give them mini tests within the relationship that they then overcome. For instance, Stefan is super far gone, he’s off the wagon, he’s been murdering people for months, is he so far gone that he’ll turn on Elena? And for a second it looks like he might when calls Klaus over but he doesn’t because he just gives him a vintage.
Stefan is drinking human blood, Elena doesn’t like it, is that going to be a choice that tears them apart or brings them together? Elena chooses to be in it with Stefan by giving him her vein.
There’s constant tension between Stefan’s vampirism and SE love and SE love always wins out. 
23. “I had an hour to realize what a bad idea it was to leave you here alone, process it and move on.” Damon, you’re a dick.
24. Klaus is so in love with Stefan and I find it hilarious because this isn’t brotherly at all.
25. These stares. Get a ROOM.
26. Yeah see Candice is good at screaming when it comes to being tortured but when it comes to crying she’s adequate at best.
27. KLEFAN WHY ARE Y’ALL SO CLOSE?
28. Touching chests and shit.

30. It always bothered me that when the vampire use vampire speed in the show and slam each other against things like walls and doors, nothing dents or cracks. They do it in Mr and Mrs. Smith for godsake and they’re not even vampires!
31. That was a BAD shot of Ian, man, he looked old as fuuuuuuuuuuuck.
32. “Well I am torn, you see, I promised Stefan I wouldn’t let you die but how many freebies did I really sign up for? And clearly you WANT to die otherwise you wouldn’t be here...” Jo’s delivery is on point.
33. I’ve said it before but the, “You shouldn’t be here.” “Where else would I be?” and Elena’s head tilt like of COURSE I’d come after you, of COURSE I’m here, of course, of course, of course, is really just pure SE.
34. “When I’m done with him, he won’t want to go back.” Idc, the writers had to know that that the line was DRIPPING with innuendo.
35. “I don’t want to see you, I don’t want to be with you.” SE did this so much better than DE did because it wasn’t hyperbolic and the inflection in Paul’s tone, the shocked stillness of Elena is just done so WELL. And their circumstance is also SO MUCH sadder than DE’s was because DE’s issue was literally just that Damon was trash.

37. Oh Klaus stabbing Rebekah because she wants to leave, I just wish they made them Cesare and Lucrezia. Go all the way. Cowards.

"Iron Man 2" (2010) The best MCU movies do a good job of distracting you from all the setup of future franchise entries; this one offers so much empire building that it might as well have a "Pardon Our Dust" sign on it. Still, Scarlett Johansson's first appearance as Black Widow, dispatching opponents down the hall, made an unforgettable impression. Disney / Marvel 19. "Captain America: the first avenger" (2011) Just like he did in "The Rocketeer", director Joe Johnston excels at portraying the brilliance of the 1940s, although the characters are not as vivid as the USO sparrow. But fear not, true believers - the screen adventures of Cap have improved a lot in his later solo and team movies. wonder 18. Disney / Marvel 16. "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" (2015) It's always fun when the group comes together, but it's also hard to rediscover the magic of this first time. This sequel offers a lot of excitement and banter scripted by Joss Whedon, but it's also a bit overloaded with characters and support setups for the next MCU movie series. Both fans and enemies of superhero movies can find arguments for their arguments here. Disney / Marvel 15. "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" (2017) The group is back together, and they are as hilarious as when they first came out, but overall, this sequel gives the impression that it is only vamping (entertaining) until the next major change of the intrigue in the MCU. This time, the post-snap (or "blip", as the film says) Peter Parker and his friends are heading to Europe in a film that looks like a road comedy that sometimes blows up some superheroes. Disney / Marvel 9. "Thor: Ragnarok" (2017) Director Taika Waititi ("Hunt for the Wilderpeople") strikes a delicate balance between breathless action and the fate of the universe on the one hand and ironic stupidity and catchy jokes on the other. Fortunately, he has Chris Hemsworth, who excels in both, surrounded by spirit like Tom Hiddleston, Mark Ruffalo and franchise beginners Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum and a glorious Cate Blanchett. Disney / Marvel 8. "Captain America: Civil War" (2016) The plot and the pace aren't as tight as in "Winter Soldier", but if you're looking for somber human conflict and exciting superhero-on-superhero action, this movie does a lot of good as "Batman v. "Black Panther" (2018) While the titular African superhero king of Chadwick Boseman takes something from a back seat to a troika of fascinating female characters - played by Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira and Letitia Wright - the film nevertheless overflows with excitement and of a rich history. (And Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger ranks among the franchise's biggest villains.) Disney / Marvel 5. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" (2017) Less motivated by guilt and haunted than previous versions of the character (on the page or screen), Tom Holland's Spider-Man has enough on his plate to manage his superhero growing pains. Hungry to join The Avengers but still struggling with everything he has to learn - he's only 15 years old after all - our hero faces the evil blue collar The Vulture (well Michael Keaton, Birdman) in a funny adventure all by presenting real challenges, formidable characterizations and a wonderfully detailed cast. (You must love a teen movie that works for Zendaya, Tony Revolori, Abraham Attah and Josie Totah, as well as scene-robber newcomer Jacob Batalon.) Sony / Marvel 4. "Doctor Strange" (2016) It would be too easy to ridicule the master of the mystical arts on the big screen, but director Scott Derrickson and his team somehow gave us a version of the surgeon-turned-magician, Dr. Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), who seems at ease in the real world, rubbing shoulders with the Avengers and crossing tripping and dazzling dimensions where no one else could go. 3. "Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014) Pleasant, casual and steeped in the super hits of the 70s, this comic adventure is something of an outlier - both tonal and geographic - in the Marvel universe. Yet whether Rocket Raccoon and Black Widow intersect or not, this saga that covers the stars reminded us that there is more than one way to tell a story about superheroes. Disney / Marvel 2. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" (2014) Aggressive patriotism meets anti-government paranoia in this fascinating tale that pits the captain against labyrinthine plots. It also turns out that Steve Rogers is much more interesting in time travel in the 2000s than firmly at home in the 1940s. And you will believe that the Falcon can fly. Disney / Marvel 1. "The Avengers" (2012) Still the gold standard of the MCU, this film reveals that Joss Whedon gets comics in their DNA, in the same way that Steven Spielberg and George Lucas were fluent in the language of serials in the "Indiana Jones" movies. Putting all of these heroes in one room (or helicopter, anyway) has produced tremendous results, although the success of the film has led to the all-superhero-all-time ethos of contemporary Hollywood. When you realize Comrade Dyatlov is a better villain than the Night King.
I’m still salty over the fact that HBO totally fucked up the Night King’s arc. That’s my main beef with GoT, also the non-existent Jonerys chemistry as well as the gratuitousness of their forced romance.
 I mean we never got to know about the Night King’s motivations or about his antagonism with the Lord of Light. I didn’t mind the battle of Winterfell at all, or the fact that he was ambushed and stabbed by Arya. What I did mind was the fact that he was killed in the... third episode of six which I found ABSOLUTELY outrageous. He was supposed to be the Big Boss, the main villain, not someone to be tossed over for the sake of the Daenerys/Cersei feud, I mean who cares. I was totally expecting the Northerners to be defeated and Jon with what army he had left to go south and try to catch the white walkers as they invaded King’s Landing. The Night King would want to make Cersei his ice queen or something, only to be killed by Jon and co in the Red Keep. So much wasted potential. 
As for the newest trend, the GoT vs Chernobyl thing, yeah it was fun at first. But these two are totally different projects, right? 
I loved the Night King with all my heart when he raised the dead at Hardhome.

What a brilliant episode that was, directed by the superb Miguel Sapochnik, the director we drooled over before we were introduced to “Chernobyl”s Johan Renck. 
But somehow, during its GoT days, HBO made a point of highlighting each production department separately, thus we got to know about the visual effects guys, the wardrobe department, the directors. With “Chernobyl” there was no time, only five eps, and HBO focused mainly on its protagonists and Craig Mazin. It was visibly a group effort but it remained Mazin’s baby as far as promotion was concerned.
Oh well, can’t complain. I guess Chernobyl got the GoT treatment in a way. Not only did the two shows share some actors but also it didn’t take you more than a scene to like a character even if you never saw them again.

As for Dyatlov being the villain, I enjoyed the... slow process of his villainization. It seemed seamless, effortless. Look at that lonely but ambitious guy, an annoying deputy chief engineer, the superior you DON’T want to have: he explains nothing, he denies responsibility, he doesn’t have your back, he calls you names. Yeah I did have asshole bosses like him.
However I’ll never consider the real Dyatlov to be the main villain of the Chernobyl disaster. The system was the villain. To quote “Chernobyl prayer”, “So many people suffered, and nobody has answered for it. They flung the management of the atomic power station in prison, and that was all. Under that system, it was very hard to say who was to blame, When you got orders from above, what could you do? Only one thing: carry them out.”
On a lighter note, I loved Paul Ritter’s Anatoly Dyatlov from day one. He looks so real to me, so... Greek, I’m not joking, hence the memes about him and his famous Greek lookalike lol.
