Long time, no see, Tumblr!

Hello Everyone! It’s been a while, and we’re so sorry about the silence on our blog! But we have some big, important updates to share with you all. The entire team has been extremely busy with both personal, real-life responsibilities and with game production! On top of this, we have also had a big change in management and production, so we’ve been getting a handle on that at the same time.

I’ll start this by stating that I’m Tobias (he/him), the new social media and community manager, and I’ll be bringing this update to you all! And, all Patreon links provided (minus the ones near the end) are public posts, so you don’t need to be subscribed to a tier to view them, but you still need to be 18+! Now, this goes a bit back, so get a warm drink and get comfy to read this big post because if you haven’t been on the Twitter or Patreon, you’ve missed quite a lot (which is on us entirely! We’re sorry again!) In September 2023, we released a few screenshots on our Patreon showing off some script revisions for the demo of “Something’s Wrong with Sunny Day Jack.” (read them + the update more in detail here!: https://www.patreon.com/posts/sunny-day-jack-90099502) As stated in that post, “A lot of grammatical errors, run-on sentences, etc.. are also being combed out in favor of: - Content that foreshadows future events in the game - Content that is easier to read - And content that more clearly portrays the rules, lore, and restrictions of the supernatural/horror elements in this world

Additionally, more content in general, will be added. Not a substantial amount, but enough to flesh out scenes and make things make more sense now that the world/game has been almost completely outlined.” This post was met with a lot of confusion, as SDJ fans mentioned that they feared the game was being toned down from its original concept. And while our re-writes do actively remove dialogue that unintentionally may be perceived as dubious consent or pressuring the player into sexual/romantic choices, there are no intentions to remove yandere/horror content! We cleared this all up in another Patreon post; a small QnA (here’s that one, again, more in detail!: https://www.patreon.com/posts/q-yandere-is-to-91034309). 

You may be saying “But Tobias! On the Kickstarter, it said there was soft, dubious consent!” And yes, that is true. However, as stated in the 2nd link provided, Our publisher at the time, Project Enso, originally put that warning up. Sauce (they/them) was not happy with that, but PE properly explained that people who were uncomfortable with the infamous "No Route" hadn't had that warning, and thus felt surprised.

Now, you may have noticed that at the beginning of this post, I mentioned a big change in management. In a post made on Patreon in late October 2023, we got introduced to our new Director, Biscuit (she/her)! She’s previously made devlogs on the Patreon, but she’s since been made the Head of Operations for SnaccPop! But the main points of these two posts above are, 

Sauce will no longer be taking a management role at SnaccPop anymore. Instead, they will take a much necessary backstep to focus solely on creating art and supporting the studio through their continuous work.

The studio has Biscuit as its front-facing figure, but she will be helped out by Perrie (she/her, our current Voice Acting director), Nana (she/her, our current Art director), and other individuals who are key to keeping the content going smoothly at a decent pace. 

SWWSDJ is no longer being released as a full game in November 2024, and is now having Episodic Releases! (Acts 1, 2, 3, and 4)

The Patreon rewards will remain entirely the same. Sauce, as it has been said before, will keep working with us all the way!

All the cousins are besties, but Artemis is closer to Aura and Apollo is closer to Hecate. Artemis and Aura hunt together all the time, and Apollo researches magic practices a lot (God of knowledge and all that) so the two of them have fun experimenting with mystic stuff.

Asteria, Lelantos, and Leto were very close growing up, but the titanomachy put them all on different paths. They all still care for each other deeply, but scars from the past hold them back from being truly close. Recently, Asteria and Leto have been reconnecting, but Lelantos is still reluctant. 

Also because of the Titanomachy, the three siblings have various levels of strained relationships with their parents. Asteria sees her parents most favorably, and she and Leto are still regularly in contact with their mother. Leto holds a grudge against their father, and Lelantos doesn't speak with either of them. 

All of the third generation (Hecate, Aura, Apollo, Artemis) love their parents so fucking much (minus Zeus, of course) And not only that, they love each other’s parents too!! Hecate thinks Leto is the most kickass coolest aunt she could ever have! Artemis looks up to Perses like nobody's business! If Lelantos didn’t exist, Aura would ask Asteria to adopt her! And of course I have my little post-toa hc that Apollo and Lelantos become v close and wholesome and I love this family. 

Phoibe loves to brag on her kids and grandkids. Specifically, she loves to brag on the twins. See, Phoibe is not a fan of Olympus, or gods, in general. So to her, Apollo and Artemis are the only redeeming qualities of the immortal world today. So whenever something good comes out of Olympus, Phoibe is like “Well of course that was 100% because of my grandchildren. They get it all from their mother you know, nothing from that nasty child of Kronos. Oh how glorious, and you don’t see any of the godly children becoming the rulers of the sun and moon hmmm? Exactly.” 

Also according to her Apollo and Artemis are honorary titans. 

Koios hasn’t been able to interact with his grandchildren much, but he’s just as proud of them as Phoibe is, just in a … less wholesome way. Mans is certain he can convince his grandkids to retake Olympus for titan glory, which is never gonna happen. Whenever he brings it up the rest of the family just smile and nod awkwardly. 

Bonus: A little blurb about Leto I wrote about a month ago

During the titanomachy, Leto stayed on Hyperborea with her mother. She shored the defenses and kept the other titans alive. Leto had no exceptional healing or magical abilities, but she worked tirelessly and kept her heart open. She cared easily and earnestly. She fought to get her brother out of trouble with the gods after the fight ended, though she could not do the same for her parents. For years, it was just the two of them, until Leto met Zeus.

Zeus was everything Leto wanted to be. He was confident and assured, and so kind with her. They sang and danced and spoke about everything, and Leto did what she could to soothe his fears. When she get pregnant, Zeus was overjoyed. However, after the twins were born, he became colder and distant.

Leto was basically abandoned, her children taken to Olympus and her lover rebuffing any attempts at being close. She resolved to make a place for her family to return to, but they came less and less. Now Leto keeps her hearth steady, as she has for her whole life, wishing desperately that someone would stop drifting away, and come back to her. In her solitude and grief, she doesn't even realize that the earth itself will set down roots if she only asked, just as it had before.

Sception Reads Cass Cain #29

Last time we looked at Batgirls sort of stand alone tie in to the Officer Down crossover, which ended with Cass abandoning her solo detective efforts on the case to meet up with the rest of the clan. This time we see her showing up as a side character in the crossover proper, already in progress. She doesn't have too big a role in things, though, so I think it's fair to cram her remaining Officer Down appearances into a single post.

Robin 86 covers the bat crew learning about Gordon being shot and collecting at the hospital to comfort Babs and start to plan. Batman gets real grumpy about it, attacking a random thug when he first hears about Gordon, hitting Dick when he tries to hold Bruce back, and then just brooding over Gordon's unconscious body while the rest are sent out to actually catch the shooter.

Cass is there for some of that, but not really saying or doing too much, so we're mostly looking at the art. Iirc, the Pander Bros are new artists to this retrospective. So how's their Cass?

Remember last time how I mentioned how depicting cass as a shadowy silhouette or trying to convey how she moves was more effective at making her spooky and intimidating than emphasizing the stitches in her mask or just giving her an angry face or whatever? This is the kind of stuff I was talking about there. Not enough to have stitches over the mouth, the Panders make her entire suit stitched together, like Catwoman in Batman Returns. They also drop her chunky yellow utility belt - and frequently also the yellow bat-symbol on her chest, though that might be a colorist issue.

I don't think they do a bad job exactly, apart from their super angular cartoony style not really clicking with me, but that's an aesthetic preference, not a judgment on quality. But the lack of facial expression in their Cass really hurts here.

I mean, at least there's some body language & physicality put into comforting Babs here, and it's nice that Babs looks to Cass in this one panel/moment here.

And I also like this bit, where Cass is the first to notice that Bruce is already in the room with Jim.

So Catwoman was seen at the scene where Gordon was shot, and they were feuding recently, so she's the prime suspect even if gun murder isn't really her style. The bat crew, minus Bruce, try to track her down, eventually leading to them interrupting a museum heist, but it turns out to be Harley Quinn running interference for Selina.

I like N. Steven Harris's general style more than the Panders, but he makes some weird decisions with Cass.

Combat Heels? Really?

This is a writing thing, so more on Dixon than Harris again, but...

has the memo not yet gotten around that Cass can talk now? She could just ask 'where is Catwoman'?

are we supposed to believe she can write the word 'woman' but not the word 'cat'? The cat part she has to draw?

This is kind of silly and ridiculous.

Mostly she's just kind of standing around in group shots in this one, and she looks fine.

The only real character beat Cass gets in this one is this extra and unnecessary kick at Harley Quinn at the end. Kind of mean spirited, which doesn't exactly fit Cass's usual character, but she's frustrated and her friend is hurting so I can't exactly say lashing out like this is exactly out of character either.

The last issue with Harley Quinn was mostly just spinning wheels to spread the crossover to one more title, Catwoman 90 actually advances the plot with the crew tracking Selina down, capturing her, and getting her version of the story - that another cop shot the commissioner.

Is Mike Lilly also a new artist for Cass? 3 for 3 new artists this week? I probably like his version of Batgirl the best out of the three today, but it does suffer noticeably from 'only knows how to draw one body type for female characters' syndrome.

It's a cute line I guess, but Selina has met Cass before. They had a whole little side adventure.

That's-not-Cass body measurements aside, Lilly does a great job of portraying just how athletic and acrobatic Cass is in just a few panels, how overwhelming her skill is in a physical confrontation. Selina pretty easily slipped past Dick, Tim, and Jean-Paul before this, but she just can't shake Cass.

Later on Cass is also the one who retrieves the shooter's gun from the vent Selina stowed it in:

Nice to see her and Jean-Paul working together in a nod to some of the No Man's Land stuff.

Overall three new artistic takes on Cass-Batgirl, and while I have my gripes about each none of them are bad exactly. It's nice that she's here for the crossover event, not left out entirely, and the writing teams remember enough of her character that she's making a show of consoling Barbara, or just naturally teaming up with Jean-Paul. It's also nice that she's treated as the most physically adept member of the bat team.

On the other hand, I'm not sure word has gotten around that she can talk now? The whole point of making her able to talk was so that she didn't fall into the vaguely racial trope of the silent faceless ninja, but that's still very much the role she's filling here.

I'd also mentioned earlier in discussing No Man's Land and more broadly the characterization of Bruce at the time kind of fell into a recurring rut. Something bad would happen that would remind Bruce of how little control he really had over the random injustice of the world, something that would put him back in the headspace of that little boy watching his parents murdered in front of him, and in response he would emotionally seize up and push his surrogate family away, only to later re-(re-re-re-)learn that he can't just do everything on his own and isolating himself only makes things worse and found family is good and he needs to rely on his friends, etc etc.

Officer Down is the start of another of these cycles, and while Gordon survives his injuries, he does retire. And Bruce's behavior towards the others while he's afraid Gordon will die is obnoxious enough that Alfred quits? To teach him a lesson by isolating him? Seems suspect, but whatever. Bruce just in general gets more grumpy and obnoxious for a while in a way that feels pretty repetitive with No Mans Land, a rut that continues to repeat going forward well after the writers seem to have tired of it.

And as a Cass fan it's kind of frustrating, because, again, her entire character concept was designed in dialog with exactly this version of Bruce, and the arc that it felt at the time she was building towards would have given the writers a natural way to write Bruce out of this rut.

It sort of writes itself - something happends that forces Bruce to acknowledge Cass's murder - maybe she finally breaks down and confesses it to him directly. He doesn't take it well, it leads to conflict between them, expanding out into conflict with the rest of the team. Eventually this conflict forces Bruce and Cass to confront and overcome their internalized guilt issues together, probably while physically fighting each other. The resolution of this forces Bruce to acknowledge that it's unprocessed guilt - not anger - that's been driving him to push everyone away. In offering Cass the forgiveness she needs he also learns to forgive himself, and comes out of the whole thing as more mellow and better-socially-adjusted batman, one who at the very least turns to his found family in a crisis instead of always reflexively pushing them away.

Bits and pieces of this narrative show up here and there going forward, but the whole arc never really coalesces. And while eventually there was a shift to a less grumpy and self-isolating Batman, I don't remember any particular catharsis bringing him to that point - though to be fair I wouldn't have seen it if it didn't involve Cass, so *shrug*.

My most popular fic, by far, is Right Hand Red. I feel guilty even mentioning it because it gets plenty of attention without me drawing more to it. I will never not be stunned by how popular and well-loved this fic is. It’s currently at 586,000 hits and sneaking up on 30,000 kudos. I never imagined this sort of response in my wildest dreams. Anyway, it posted in January of 2015, it’s eighth year (my version of an eighth book, minus the epilogue in the seventh), party games, Drarry (obv.), with exquisite art by Iwao. Here’s the summary:

Harry felt Malfoy's breath on his lips as they came together over the bottle, hands firmly planted on the floor as though they each needed their familiar soil, refusing to cross into enemy territory.

Except that Malfoy no longer felt like his enemy.

Malfoy felt inevitable.

Now, for a couple of ‘hidden gems’, though to be fair I’m still very happy with the response of the people who have read these two. They may have less hits, but the comments on them have been a complete joy to get. Both are rarepair, one femslash, and the femslash is rated M (my femslash does way better when it’s E, go figure.) But it’s a verrrrry sexy M, let me just say that!

So yes, Nice Blouse is Pansy/Ginny (Ginsy), written in February of this year (2022) and only 485 words, which I know is also not to everyone’s tastes. But boy does this little ficlet sizzle! I mean, there’s tit-sucking in public, okay? The summary:

Tequila shots in a queer bar. Things heat up fast.

(Man, I need to write some more Ginsy before the year ends, for sure.)

Tl;dr since it is very long: Having hobbies doesn't make you a morally better person and not having hobbies doesn't make you a morally worse person. Some disabled people are disabled enough by their disabilities that they can't have hobbies and this kind of thing hurts them the most. Erasing them and saying all disabled people are abled enough to have hobbies is ableist. The idea that hobbies - productive or consumptive - determine whether a person is going to be a decent upstanding person or a complete asshole is literally based in christian protestant ideals about work ethic that have suffused our culture.

Take your moral superiority complex about being better than people who don't have hobbies and your crybullying about the existence of severely disabled people being ableist elsewhere.

Conflating morality with productivity is ableist bullshit and also just based in culturally christian bullshit. People don't mistreat people because they don't have fun little activities to do. I've encountered literally THOUSANDS of the nastiest people you'll ever meet who are fanartists and fanfic writers, knitters and crocheters, who play instruments and write music, who make indie games in their spare time or create mods for existing games. I've also met incredibly good people who don't do anything "rewarding", often because they can't, and are the most compassionate, patient, understanding people you will ever meet.

You seem to think the only reason someone might find this antagonistic or problematic is because they are secretly guilty of not having any hobbies and spending their time attacking people. Is this projection on your part? Do you have to occupy yourself with distractions to avoid being an asshole on the internet? Are you even aware that the axiom that people who don't have hobbies are assholes still isn't true, and you've just once again said "the reason you're mad about productivity and hobbies being moralized is because you are a Bad Person and unkind because of your lack of hobbies"? Like, I'm not a perfect person. You can scroll down my personal blog (@xxlovelynovaxx) and find times I said shitty things, and apologized and attempted to take responsibility for them. I also have LOTS of hobbies, including writing, reading, gaming, drawing, painting, digital art, papercrafting, playing flute and ocarina and recently kalimba, photography, doll collecting, music composition, singing, sewing, and learning languages.

I am also profoundly disabled and becoming more so. I am not becoming a worse person because of my lack of ability to continue doing many of these things. In fact, there is zero correlation between the times I have been an asshole and the times I have been unable to engage with my hobbies for prolonged periods of time. Meaning, not that I am only ever an asshole when doing hobbies, but that when I've made mistakes and hurt people, it's equally likely that I was or wasn't able to have hobbies at the time.

We are "as capable", as disabled people, as "anyone else". As cap-able.

No. Not all of us are. Disabled people who are incapable of doing these things exist. Disabled people who are so profoundly disabled that they can't even participate minimally in social situations to create "nice memories" - which, by the way, hanging out with others and "making memories" isn't a hobby. Disabled people who literally are unABLE because of their DIS-ABILITY of doing any of these things exist.

No, "most disabled people" don't have hobbies. But thank you for "defending" disabled people with literal inspiration porn about how actually, we all CAN have hobbies just like any other person, and how disabilities can never disable us to the point of being unable to participate in hobbies. Telling someone to find something that makes them happy isn't ableist. Deciding that there is a direct causative relationship between "not pushing or enriching yourself" and "being a massive asshole to strangers", or that the reason they are being dicks is because they "aren't taking responsibility for their well-being", IS.

Even setting aside that yes, pushing yourself can be unhealthy in some cases, that hobbies aren't enriching to everyone, that hobbies are necessary for a person's well-being (arguably true, because people who are disabled to the point they can't have hobbies often find their quality of life suffers) - people aren't "refusing to take responsibility for their own well-being" by acknowledging the reality of their disability.

They aren't thinking that it's "evil" to pursue something they enjoy or being in love with their misery or sitting there cackling about refusing to "recover" or whatever it is you think disabled people are doing when you've decided they're "choosing" not to have hobbies. For my part, I spend much of my time when I can't participate in my hobbies desperately wanting to, or planning how I can when I feel better, or as I've made peace with my reality, looking forward to the good days while I appreciate even the long and difficult rest periods forced on me by my body.

(Although also, if you think it's not okay for disabled people to be sad or angry or yes, miserable, when factors outside of their control make them unable to do the things they love, you're also an ableist for that.)

"Get a hobby" still implies people don't have inherent worth. It just takes capitalist ideals and does the "can I copy your notes? yeah but change your answer slightly" and makes it about an arbitrary abstract standard of "fulfillment" (usually still determined by creation of a product, as 'non-productive' hobbies like watching shows/ movies, listening to music, or other 'media consumption' are often vilified in the same way as lack of hobbies).

It's still moralization of productivity. It still bases both worth and "goodness" around what a person can DO. It's still based in exactly the same protestant labor ethic that contributed to the formation of capitalism, only now instead of "idle hands are the devil's work and cause sin" it's "idle hands cause an unenriched soul which causes sin I mean assholery". Seriously, what WAS that weird pseudoreligious bit about "feeding your soul" in the OP? The pretense is SO thin.

For all your fake concern trolling about it really being about "people finding stuff that makes them happy and taking responsibility for their recovery", the truth is, you don't actually think it's about people being healthier and therefore less of an asshole (also, being an asshole is a choice, not a mental health condition. Congrats on contributing to the exact stigma we continuously have to fight. Lack of health does not make you a worse person or more likely to hurt others).

To you, it's that if people can't, in your words, "create something beautiful" and "feed their soul", they are fundamentally less good of a person and more likely to hurt others.

Finally, even were all that true - that lack of hobbies directly causes people to be assholes - is it really worth making the most marginalized disabled people feel ashamed and worry that they're really fundamentally lesser? Is it really worth taking the people you believe to be outliers and essentially sacrificing them and their already much worse mental health outcomes, just to make a quip on the internet?

Or do you not actually give a fuck about other disabled people, have you bought into lies and stigma that productivity makes you a more "pure" person who is less capable of harm, and that having poor mental health makes you a morally lesser person that has to fight harder and fails more at not being an asshole, and that the only reason people might disagree with you is that they're bad people who choose not to recover and wallow in their misery, because a disability making someone unable to do things you can do isn't possible?

You literally said that people who have hobbies are better than those that don't. You think that hobbies determine morality. That's ableist no matter how you shake it.

Maybe you should get over your obsession with hobbies equaling worth and making someone a "better" more moral person, stop making other miserable, and maybe even with it being untrue, focus more on your own hobbies, because if nothing else they make you happier, right? Etrian Odyssey Series: Compilation of Archetypal Town Characters

I really love the NPCs that show up in each Etrian Odyssey game, in the town you keep coming back to between dungeon visits. Unironically, I'm always excited to see the new shopkeeper, innkeeper, barkeeper, etc. of any given EO game. Because of that, just for fun, I decided to gather official art for all characters of the archetypes: guildmasters (whom you speak to when growing and organizing your guilds), innkeepers (whom you speak to when resting at an inn or storing/taking back items), shopkeepers (whom you speak to when buying goods and armor/weapons), barkeepers (whom you speak to to get and report sidequests), and...mission givers? (officials whom you speak to to get or report important story missions).

Now, some of this art was a bit tough to find, mainly for Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2 and the Mobile game, since neither was released outside of Japan and the latter is more or less lost. For EMD 2 I went to some Japanese articles on 4gamer talking about it (https://www.4gamer.net/games/375/G037512/20170720039/ and https://www.4gamer.net/games/375/G037512/20170622014/) and for the Mobile game I went to this Japanese Article that that talked about playing it a little (http://dihyhi.blog.fc2.com/blog-entry-47.html), which to my knowledge is one of the only documentations of that game, so credit to those sources for the art. I also machine translated those sites for info on the Characters' names and whatnot, so take it with a grain of salt. I know machine translations are rarely very helpful but it's all I had right now, sorry.

It should also be noted that there will be light spoilers for some of the games here, mainly Etrian Odyssey 3. Nothing too egregious, at worst it's for something you find when you beat the second Stratum, but I still feel I should mention it.

One last thing, I will be listing most games as EO plus their respective number (so the first game will be EO1), the Mystery Dungeon games will be listed as EMD and EMD2, for the first and second respectively, the Mobile game will written EOM, and even though in America it's called Etrian Odyssey Nexus I will write that game as "EOX", simply because that's more distinctive as an acronym. I've seen others on here do that so it's probably not so weird but I still felt I should clarify.

But enough talk! It is time to meet the guildmasters, some of the most important NPCs in any Etrian Odyssey game! Mostly rather well-armored looking (except for in EO3, EMD2, and Mobile), these tend to be pretty cool characters, and while we don't always get to see them fight much it's welcome when the chance does arrive.

My favorite of these is probably Marion, with Asuka and Egar as runner ups.

And now, for the group that, to be real, is a big part of why I wanted to make this post: the Innkeepers! Friendly, helpful folks that run the inns where your characters can rest, healing up and saving progress. As some likely remember, I already listed most of these characters in that meme I made some time back, featuring characters I like that have constantly closed eyes (https://barbaracleboy.tumblr.com/post/722662911985778688/forgive-me-if-ive-posted-this-here-already-but-i). I intentionally tried to list every Innkeeper from the Etrian Odyssey series (minus some whose eye aren't closed all the time, whom I will get into later), and I largely succeeded!...except it turns out that there's a unique innkeeper in the Etrian Odyssey Mobile game. Granted, I can't really get on myself for that, it's a Japan-only mobile game that barely anyone seems to have played or heard of and is also not available anymore. Still, that was a slight bummer for me. But look! They're all here now!

My favorites of these is probably Hanna, with Jenetta and Dalla as runner ups.

And now, I can truly have them lined up together.

Next up are various shopkeepers! Fun fact! Napier is not only the Shopkeeper to have run the shop in two separate games (not counting remakes), but one of, if not the only one of these NPCs to have hosted a facility in two separate games.

My favorite of these is probably Shilleka, with Edie and Wynne as runner ups.

This group consists of characters in similar not identical roles to the prior group: if I'm correct, in Etrian Odyssey One medicines and equipment were sold at different shops, and at medicine shops you could also revive characters and cure petrification (EO2 brought medicine at the main shop but kept the revival at the hospital). Hoffman, Stiles, and Muse(?) here ran their respective games medicine shops/hospitals, Angie supported Dr. Stiles, Don Chano supported his daughter, Elizabeth (from the prior group), and Lizley and the Merchant of Darkness(?) acted as merchants you coukd run into within the dungeon itself. Also, apparently Hoffman, Stiles, and Angie are (based on) characters from Trauma Center, which is neat.

My favorite of these is probably Don Chano, with either Lizley and the Merchant of Darkness as runner ups.

Another big favorite of mine, the Barkeeps! It's always fun chatting with these friendly types, hearing them cheer you on before many quests and compliment you for having completed one. They're so pleasant!...Though. yeah, Kvasir can be quite suspect with some of the things he says.

My favorite here is probably Kirtida, with Niralda and...either Missy or Mukkoran as runner ups...I love them too much, ha.

I don't know what to call this grouo really but they give the story missions and are about all in some position of power. Some are more involved in the story than others, but overall you will be seeing them often...Also, for some reason I couldn't find anyone that fills this role for Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2? Maybe I just did a bad job at looking but I don't know, I just couldn't find anybody. It's odd.

My favorite here has GOT to be the Outland Count (massively fond of his face, his moustache, and his dog), with Flowdia and Persephone as runner ups.

Last group here, being a variety of characters that act as alternatives or support for some of the other ones. This also has spoilers for etrian Odyssey 3 (the thing being spoiled is discovered after you beat the second Stratum but still).

Visil is a character you'll occasionally see during tbe story of EO1, Quona is Hannah's daughter who will sometimes greet you at the inn instead of or in addition to her mother, Gradriel is someone you'll see a bit throughout EO2's story, Gutrune is the Princess of Armoroad whom you'll see and/or hear about throuought EO3's story, Seyfreid is the Abyssal King whom you'll speak with and get Subclasses from in the Deep City of EO3, Napier's Sister (who, unfortunately, seems to have no confirmed name) runs the shop of the Deep City in EO3, Angie (who I would presume isn't the same one from EO2 but is based on the same Trauma Team character? I think?) runs the inn of EO3's Deep City, and finally, Yobo is Traoré's brother in Etrian Mystery Dungeon 2, and I...think he assists Mukkoran in giving out quests?...Him being a recolor is pretty lame, tbh.

My favorite here is probably Visil, with Napier's Sister and Seyfreid as runner ups.

Paramore is one of the few bands of their era that has withstood the test of time. Many of their fellow Warped Tour-adjacent compatriots dealt out heavy doses of misogyny, a defect that frontwoman Hayley Williams herself has acknowledged and expunged from the band’s music. Even within their own camp, they endured a homophobic guitarist and antagonistic bassist, the latter of whom departed the band twice and was inexplicably removed from the band’s 2013 album artwork last year.

*This Is Why*, the group’s sixth album, is the first in their catalog to feature the same lineup as its predecessor. Paramore has been through a veritable shitstorm, and they’ve emerged with a stronger resolve, steeling against whatever life throws at them with a hardened exterior.

“After 15 to 20 years of fighting like a bunch of brats in front of the world, you eventually learn some coping skills and communication methods,” Williams told *The Guardian* last fall. Now, the pop-punk powerhouse comprises three people: Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and drummer Zac Farro. Despite Paramore’s shifting lineups and disparate stylings across their discography, their influence on music writ large is palpable: from the hooky panache of Meet Me @ the Altar to the earnest songwriting of Olivia Rodrigo; from the iconoclastic pop of Billie Eilish to the plaintive belt-a-longs of Julien Baker. The Tennesseeans’ blueprint reigns supreme, so much so that Williams and ex-guitarist Josh Farro got a writing credit on Rodrigo’s “good 4 u.”

There’s no doubt that Paramore’s appeal reaches far and wide; they’re playing basketball arenas now, after all. It’s that cultural ubiquity that’s yielded them stages this big, yet it’s also due to their multifarious approach to art. *This Is Why* captures that interdisciplinary spirit with cohesion and flair.

***The title track*** kicks things off on a stunning note, playing like a blend of Williams’s 2020 solo album *Petals for Armor* and the groovy rhythms of 2017’s *After Laughter*, minus that album’s neon sheen.

***“The News”*** harnesses the punchy verve that makes for some of the best *brand new eyes* cuts, albeit Carlos de la Garza’s production feels abnormally thin, diluting what could’ve been acerbic and menacing.

But that misstep is compensated for immediately after: ***“Running out of Time,”*** like the title track, strikes a balance between atmospheric textures and syncopated buoyancy that is, simply put, really fucking fun. *This Is Why*, as its first three tracks show, accomplishes a feat that connects the band’s diverging sonic pathways without succumbing to whiplash. It encapsulates Paramore’s voyages into piercing pop-punk, glossy New Wave, heartfelt ballads and anthemic paeans.

Some of the record’s best moments encompass an amalgamation of these eras. ***“C’est Comme Ca”*** could’ve been an *After Laughter* single had that record contained more of a pronounced grittiness and Strokes-esque guitar tones. Hearing Williams try her hand at spoken-word verses is a total delight, too. But the song’s most affecting moment comes toward its sung bridge, with Williams’ soprano gradually unfolding into a shout: “I hate to admit getting better is boring/But the high cost of chaos, who can afford it?”

On the penultimate track, ***“Crave,”*** York’s guitar work summons the twinkling emo of their *Twilight* songs like “Decode” and “I Caught Myself” while Williams’s voice soars above the chorus, howling the song’s title and longing for simplicity.

She keeps up the momentum on the closer, ***“Thick Skull,”*** evincing her wide vocal range, shifting from a subdued lower register in the verses until she unfurls into her signature emo burst in the final chorus à la fan favorite “All I Wanted.” This concluding one-two punch marks the strongest run on the album.

However, *This Is Why* sags ever so slightly in the middle, namely due to the mawkish whims of its centerpiece, ***“Big Man, Little Dignity.”*** Though thematically potent and containing one of the record’s best lines (“You keep your head high / Smooth operator in a shit-stained suit”), its lukewarm instrumentation, evoking alt-radio fodder like Young the Giant and Walk the Moon, hinders its potential. There’s also the fact that Paramore makes little use of one of its greatest assets as a band: pure intensity. Occasionally, the trio reins themselves in for arrangements that signal hushed tastefulness, whereas catchy catharsis is what this band is known for.

Still, it’s not like they haven’t shown they can write compelling softer material, as songs like “Misguided Ghosts” and “26” demonstrate. Yet this album’s muted breaks leave little impact compared to the immediacy that’s been a major draw for revisiting Paramore’s work. Albums like *After Laughter* and *brand new eyes* were also punctuated with infectious adrenaline rushes, which Paramore does like no one else; *This Is Why* has fewer instances of drastic sonic contrast, lending it coherence and mild inertia all the same.

But the album revives itself with ***“You First,”*** an instant highlight that merges indie-rock and pop-punk in equal measure. “Turns out I’m living in a horror film where / I’m both the killer and the final girl,” Williams sings over Farro’s pummeling percussion and York’s discordant, post-punk guitar.

Throughout each of its 10 tracks, Williams navigates fatalism and a world where war, disease and climate change run amok. Whether she’s hiding from the public eye on “This Is Why,” lamenting the pervasiveness of a 24-hour news cycle on ***“The News,”*** or roasting chauvinists on ***“Big Man, Little Dignity,”*** Williams once again proves herself a formidable writer, and York and Farro are there to lend their craftsmanship to yet another captivating record.

After the seemingly endless volatility this band has weathered, it’s a miracle that they exist, still making incredible music. Here, they sound self-assured and steady, like a group that understands what they have and makes the most of it. On *This Is Why*, Paramore have found land after a years-long trip at sea, grounding their ship and claiming all the accolades they’ve accrued in their time away. They deserve them all.

source separation

(And my journey with it, all under the cut!)

I thought I’d write a long ranty post about source separation, since I’m an alter who’s gone through it (mostly). I just want to get my experiences out there and possibly help some other alters who might be struggling with this topic understand it more or, whatever.

So let’s start with Introductions! I’m Samantha, but I usually go with just Sam. I’m a factional introject of an ow esports player named S9mm. I use she/her pronouns and identify as a trans woman. (This will be important later.)

I first formed around June last year, so I’ve been around for a bit. When I first started getting my bearings, I was terrified! I mean, I’d been ripped away from my life (which was quite good most of the time!) and now I was stuck here, in a new body, alone. In a pretty abusive environment. Not fun at all!

My first reaction to all of this was escape. Which is to say I was so deep in wanting to be back in my source, and wanting to have my body and face and life back that I couldn’t focus on living the one I’m in right now. Whenever I fronted I was fucking miserable. All I could think about was my “past”. To me, this is an example of being unhealthily attached to your source. If it’s getting in the way of enjoying your current life or focusing on it then that’s not good!

I had a long chat with another alter, who’d been in the system for a while and went through that same deal. And the first thing they told me was to stop interacting with anything related to my source. Just find out who you are. Minus the source. Minus the premade personality and form you came with. Once you’ve found it, you can start to merge the two together. Finding you while still identifying with your source is possible. There’s just a delicate balance that I was definitely not balancing well.

And this is what I did for a while, I stopped watching OWL games, I stopped playing Overwatch, and I focused more on the things going on around me. I started trying new things. I learned stuff about myself! And it was nice. I’ve picked up art as a hobby, I love drawing. I also enjoy other video games, particularly roguelikes and rpgs which I never thought I would’ve liked. If I hadn’t ever let go partly of my source and who I’m “supposed” to be, I wouldn’t’ve ever discovered those things. During this period I also began realizing I might be a trans woman. (Source is a Cis male.) For a while I rejected it, still having that feeling in the back of my mind that it’s wrong because my source is a cis man. As well as all of the more typical woes that come with transness. (Which I’m going to assume nearly everyone reading this understands.)

Once I took that break, and found myself, I realized that life didn’t feel as. Well frankly, ASS, anymore. I wasn’t constantly dissociating, wishing I was “home” or the like. Home was here now, and I began to accept it. I participated more in our daily life.

After I did accept that I’m a trans woman, and that I’m Samantha, not S9mm, I was able to then reconnect with my source in a healthy way. I could watch content from my source and enjoy it without feeling like shit, I could play Overwatch and enjoy that without feeling like shit.

The point of me typing all this out really, is that there’s always a DEGREE of source separation that is healthy, and should be encouraged. But you don’t have to completely detach from your source.

I mean, my name is still Sam. I still look like my source in the headspace. (Kinda, I’m just more girly now lol.) I still refer to my pseudomemories and make jokes about my source and enjoy my source.

You can definitely have both!

dave filoni is amazing and brought us one of the most incredible pieces of star wars media. i love the jedi but holy fuck, some of you in this fandom are just so rabid and bitter. we are allowed to critique things the jedi did and doesn't mean we're anti jedi! things can have nuance.

the jedi are also portrayed very favorably in tcw. we see how much they care about the clones, we seem them acting like a family and being wise and brave. portraying them as flawed just makes them more interesting and layered, it doesn't take away from how good they are.

rabid pro-jedi blogs are making this fandom as hostile as those awful anti-jedi blogs. can you all please just start being normal???

And here's what I said about why their flaws aren't my focus though (and why it bothers me when those flaws become the focus of canon):

I’ll explore the Jedi’s flaws when I write, but I’ll always, always, always talk about how good they were a lot, lot, LOT more. And the reason why is quite simple: I feel like Jedi criticism is nitpicky and pointless, because talking about any flaws of theirs is not only beating a dead horse, but beating a horse that’s so dead it’s been decomposing for fifteen years.  Everything has been said on the subject of the Jedi’s faults - most of which I don’t agree with, but some that I’ll readily recognize (because again, they’re not meant to be perfect). But what is the point of talking about what the Jedi did wrong after a while? Even supposing they were half as flawed as the fandom makes them out to be (which they aren’t) so what? They all died. Their children died. Their history, art and philosophy were completely erased from the galaxy. Most of their legacy was forgotten.  Whatever punishment they might have deserved for not paying enough attention - or too much - to a prophecy, for failing to untangle Sidious’ web, for being blind to a lie or another when they were too busy dying on the front lines to see clearly, for failing to save all the clones, for failing to protect all the Padawans… Whatever punishment this all deserved, they received a hundred times over. 

I don't LIKE that the narrative that's being pushed more and more is that 'they were too beholden to the Senate' when it offers no other viable alternative for what they should have done and their indictment comes from a character pulling the strings of the Senate in the shadows so that the freaking 'coming darkness' he's """"warning"""" them about can become a galactic dictator.

I don't hate Filoni. I may poke fun at him and be annoyed at what he's doing, but I don't hate him. TCW wasn't just a Dave thing tho, GL was still around to supervise, and the more I see of Dave's work without GL around, and the greater creative freedom he gets, the more I'm disappointed that this is where Star Wars is going. That's all.

But point me to one of my rabid posts please. The majority of my TOTJ posts (if that's what this is about) have been either positive, nitpicky or neutral.

I'm not making the fandom "hostile" by disliking things sometimes, anon, I'm making MY blog SALTY. And I either tag that salt, or I don't tag much so that the salt doesn't show up in the general tags so that people in the fandom who don't agree won't have to see it.

If I'm not behaving 'normally' according to you - and you're perfectly entitled to think that, I AM pretty bitchy - you can stop seeing my stuff pretty easily. But please don't come at me anonymously to put a larger fandom issue onto me.

i tried to respond to this 4 times and i lost all my text and almost cried so im gonna make this much shorter than it was supposed to be (8 paragraphs) 😞 PROBABLY A RELIEF FOR MOST OF U THO LOL i have too many headcanons but here are some of my headcanons and /or “perfect world” scenarios for mlp g4 :)

i cant put all of my hcs here but im gonna put the ones i tell most ppl !!! ALSO NOT ALL OF THESE ARE IN THE SAME UNIVERSE!!! (if anybody wants more, ask me something specific .. >:3 nyeheh)

💜 - the mane six minus twilight have all been friends their whole lives, but not as a friend group until twilight came along!!

🩵 - branching off of the last one, rarity has made outfits for ALL of the ponies before !! but pinkie pie has been by far her most loyal customer because yk she throws parties like triweekly !! rarity mostly specializes in dressmaking but can also make other types of stuff . :) pinkie pie and fluttershy both seperately have taken some sewing classes from rarity cuz they alwayss loved her stuff :)

💛 - fluttershy runs/works a petshop/veterinarian clinic

💖 - at some point , pinkie pie moves out of sugarcube corner and runs her own nightclub !! (but like its not a naughty club, this is ponyville we are talking about here !! just lots of candy and soda and DANCING AND GAMES :3) and pinkie pie would be the funnest momma evr >w<

💙 - rainbow dash becomes a coach for the wonderbolts / some sort of coach :)

🧡 - applejack would grow up and continue to just run her family business and have a family of her own !! applejack would be a very caring mother but also she wouldnt take shit from anypony!! if anybody bullied her kid she’d have to try so hard not to kick anypony that bothers her and her kids

🩵 - rarity never expands her business or gets big, but she’s happy with it! her store is independent and a gem that many talk about all around the nation. :) she would be a fun mom but she would spoil the kid a lot lolz

💜 - twilight works at a school as a science/math/magic teacher, book author or a librarian! she would be a pretty average mom IN THE NICEST WAY POSSIBLE just saying she’s just your average girl!! but she has lots of knowledge to share :3 !!

-mane six all are alicornized. you cant just give the order keepers of the nation some fancy crystals and tell them to go on with their day while one friend who happened to be a rich unicorn who went to a unicorn school and got hit with a rainbow beam turns into a goddess and you have to watch her outlive you, you make them all goddesses or none of them. especially if the gifted unicorn never asked to be alicornized.

- twilight and cadenza rule together. cadence was done so dirty :( she was given goddess powers just to be sent to a Far Off Land and the Twilight was favored to just RULE A WHOLE NATION ALONE. insanity. also they have been friends / chosen sisters for the longest time. this scenario would not only give cadence a better storyline, but also spit in the faces of “theres already 5 alicorns” ❗️

Can you imagine a romantic evening between MC and Jack in the department? Maybe Jack will have a nice meal and the MC will wear a flashy dress to surprise Jack. One night where they both profess love, where they forget the bad and focus on it, maybe, Jack could take advantage and propose marriage to MC?

I must admit that I LOVE Alice (MC) and Jack with all my heart. They are a beautiful couple and they deserve a happy ending ❤️

Gosh, thank you so much! I’m really happy you like Alice so much. 💖 Don’t worry, I intend to write her and Jack having a happy ending together.

That’s quite the romantic idea you have there. MC and Jack have a dinner date that leads to him proposing is super sweet. Naturally, this is going to depend on the type of MC, whether they’re interested in marriage, and how their relationship goes, especially after the events of the game.

Naturally, I’ve already got some ideas for how it might go with my MC, Alice. Since you wanted to hear some images, and we could all use some nice fluffy goodness after the past few headcanons, I’m going to just go nuts and have fun with the topic of marriage and proposing with my OTP.

Just as a heads up, these thoughts will get spicy. This is an Adults Only game after all, and Jack is a very needy yandere who wants to fill his sunshine with his love.

The subject of marriage was something that came up while they were still in the friendship stage of their relationship. The first time Alice ever told Jack she wanted to get married eventually was one night when she was tearfully venting to her supernatural friend about her shattered dreams of a future with Ian. She dreamed of her future wedding, of having a big family with her best friend who loved and understood her the most... and he betrayed her.

Jack comforted Alice that night, cuddling her close and reassuring her that she can still have that dream someday, but with someone who truly loves her. She appreciated the reassurance, but didn’t believe it. If the bond she had with Ian was so flimsy, how could anyone truly love her?

It was painful for Jack to hear Alice think that way about herself, to not realize or even be ready to accept just how much he loved her and how much better she deserved. Still, it helped him understand her better too, her dreams for the future that he promised himself to one day give her. She was still hurt by the lies of false love, but eventually he would show her what real love felt like... because even if her love for him was platonic right now, he knew she cared about him.

The next time the subject of marriage comes up between them is a while later, though they’re not in a relationship. Alice is invited to a wedding and asks Jack to be her plus one. Technically her invitation didn’t allow for a plus one, but it’s not like they would see him, right?

Naturally, Jack was elated by the invitation, and he showed up dressed in a very colorful but snappy suit. Come to think of it, it probably would look a lot like the suit he wears in the Aphrodesia crossover.

Minus the bloodstains of course. (And the wise guy dog man underling accessory.)

As always, whenever I show some of Jambeebot/Sauce’s beautiful art, I must give full credit to them for their hard work. I also want to remind everyone not to post the private art posted on the Snaccpop Patreon. Let’s always remember to be respectful of the original creator and the team working with them, okay?

Alice is used to Jack’s mysterious supernatural changes of clothes by this point, such as his super cozy robe and pajamas. (She has admittedly swiped his robe a couple times for herself despite how big it is on her, since it’s just so comfy.) Even still, the sight of Jack in a suit is striking. She can’t help but think it looks really good on him, and her heartbeat picks up at the sight of him.

Jack, naturally, overhears Alice thinking about how handsome he is, but he still asks her what she thinks, just being a little cheeky about it and wanting to hear her say what she’s thinking out loud. He might give praise easily to his sunshine, but he will soak up every drop of it she’ll give him like a plant dying of thirst.

Flustered at being asked after what she was just thinking (which she shouldn’t be having about her friend), Alice has to take a moment to recover, and she deflects, trying to overcompensate in being friendly with her praise, because she is not going going to make this weird. Jack just rolls with her being gently teasing even as she compliments him, bantering back with her lightly, and the nervousness melts from her quickly so they have a fun exchange.

Jack, naturally, praised Alice for her gorgeous dress. The way it hugged her curves was just... Mmm... It was tempting, to say the least. He had to look away and calm himself down, or she was going to catch just how much he ached to show her just how much he appreciated the view. His words came out soft, sincere, and a little shy, as he worried about coming on too strong. Alice is skittish about romance, and if he approaches her too fast, he might ruin things.

The flattery works very well on Alice, though inwardly she struggles to believe it. When Jack continues to praise her, talking in detail about what works about her outfit and her appearance, she gets so flustered she has to tell him to stop. Her face is cherry red, and her heart is pounding so hard she’s sure he can hear it. It feels way, way too good, and she redirects the conversation towards getting to the wedding on time.

Jack adores her reaction, and he wants to keep making Alice flustered, but he allows her to change the topic. It’s addicting to overwhelm her with praise and making her feel good, but he knows when to stop. Someday she’ll be ready for him to tease and please her as much as he wants. Someday.

The wedding is a beautiful ceremony, and Jack imagines that it’s him and Alice standing there before the officiant, saying such sweet vows of love. He can even imagine some of the things he would say to her. The couple only has eyes for each other, and he can’t help but want that, his gaze constantly straying to his sunshine. To his delight, she sneaks glimpses at him as well, only to look away quickly with pinked cheeks when he catches her looking.

Yet there’s a faint hint of somberness to Alice throughout the wedding, a wistfulness that doesn’t escape Jack’s notice. He waits until she’s away from others during the reception to ask her if she’s doing alright. She says she’s fine, and he gently broaches the subject of how she feels about getting married someday.

Alice is pensive as she swirls the drink in her hand, non-alcoholic despite the open bar. Her thoughts are all over the place, wanting what the married couple have, but thinking that’s something out of her reach now, along with other complicated thoughts about Ian.

After Alice admits she isn’t sure, Jack tells her it’s okay to still want this, to want to get married. His perceptiveness startles her yet again, and he continues before she can linger on it for too long, telling her that just because Ian’s love is fake doesn’t mean that all love is. Someday, she’ll realize there’s someone who truly loves her and will only look at her like the beautiful, irreplaceable treasure that she is, forever.

Alice is blushing all the way to her ears after that and barely manages to thank Jack, overwhelmed. Her heart pounds, and a small part of her can’t help but think that he certainly makes her feel that way... and how it feels almost too good to be around him at times.

Jack is quick to remind Alice that he’ll always be there for her, as long as she wants him to be. Again she can barely do anything more than thank him, but she appreciates him entering her life. She wished for a friend, and he’s everything she could ask for and more.

Soon enough someone comes by asking for her and their conversation comes to an end, much to Jack’s regret. However, before going back, Alice sneaks a squeeze to Jack’s hand, which he tenderly returns.

As Alice returns to the reception, she thinks that maybe Jack is right. Maybe someday she can be as happy as the married couple, only with the right person by her side.

After Alice and Jack get together as a couple, the subject of marriage is brought up again. Though it’s a heart pounding topic for both of them, there is the logistics of it they need to consider. It’s a more serious discussion that hangs heavy over the happy light and fluffy feelings.

A big wedding ceremony isn’t going to happen, sadly. Even a marriage certificate won’t work out, as ghosts(?) aren’t something the law is much concerned about. They could never get married in front of a bunch of friends and family who wish them well on their new life together.

Jack promises that he’ll be with Alice forever as long as she wants him to be, even without a ceremony, softly kissing her lips to emphasize his love. She asks timidly if he really wants forever with her.

“More than anything,” Jack breathes before kissing Alice again, this time more deeply.

The conversation starts to fragment from there. Words of love and promises of forever are exchanged. Jack needs to hear her say that’s what Alice wants too, and oh when his sweet sunshine says the words he longs to hear... he just has to show how much he loves her.

It’s not an outright proposal in so many words, but the sentiment is there, a small thought at the back of both their minds. It’s a promise that sparks desire and the two of them make love several times that night.

Dates between the pair range from innocent outings having fun, like visiting the park, the museum, the movies, etc... to more intimate private dates at home.

Though, admittedly, the “innocent” outings didn’t exactly stay G-rated like they did before they were dating. Jack just can’t help himself, and there’s a thrill to whisk his sunshine off into a secluded area where they’re not supposed to be so that he can show her his love even in a place where they might get caught. Alice is so cute when she struggles to remain quiet, especially when he can be as noisy as he wants, constantly showering her with sweet words and encouragement as she takes him so deep. It’s so much fun to see her flustered face, flush with excitement, and to tease her gently about them making love in such a risky place even as he praises her for it.

On those sorts of dates, Alice dresses a little nicer, but not too much, not wanting to attract unwanted attention from other people. It’s on the date nights at home that she tries to make special sometimes by dressing up in clothes definitely too... inappropriate to wear to a wedding.

Thigh-high stockings, a short skirt, midriff showing, fishnet sleeves, delicate jewelry, high heels, hair styled, and makeup carefully done... Alice might struggle to see herself as attractive, but she still gives it her all when dressing up for a date that isn’t just a casual outing. She wants to feel attractive on these nights... and Jack certainly does his absolute best to make sure she does.

Jack dresses up as well in that nice fancy suit. He can’t look shabby when Alice tried so hard to dress up for him, can he? The sight of her after she comes out of the bedroom once she’s finished is just... wow. He’s stunned every time, but his heart skips a beat as he realizes she bought a new outfit just for his eyes only. It’s such a rare treat to see her wearing clothes made to flatter her body instead of hiding it away.

At the same time, a more primal part of Jack wants to mess up all that hard work Alice put into her appearance. He wants to pin her down to the bed, smear the lipstick with his kisses, displace her top to give him access to her breasts and leave marks as rosy as her lips. He wants to pull her panties aside and gain access to the hidden treasure underneath, to drive himself deep inside her as she wraps her stocking-covered legs around him and calls his name as he reduces her to a beautiful loving mess.

Jack has to take a moment to compose himself. Later, he promises himself. Oh, there will be time to make plenty of messes with his sunshine later, but first comes the date. Alice worked so hard for his sake, and he would never want her to feel like her plans went to waste... and he certainly doesn’t want to throw away his own.

While Alice spent all that time getting ready, Jack cooked them a delicious meal. He went all out, preparing all of her favorite dishes. He even lit a couple (very colorful) candles to set a romantic atmosphere. She gave him access to her phone a while back, so he uses it to turn on the playlist he selected. He made sure to pick only nice romantic songs that would add to the atmosphere and not distract from it.

Alice has no idea what Jack has in store. She’s just happy to be on a date with him, treasuring these private moments together. They talk, they laugh, and they enjoy the meal he worked so hard to make. Jack doesn’t eat often since he doesn’t have to, and he’s mindful of her financial situation, but Alice enjoys eating together with him, especially on special occasions. He basks in her praise for his cooking, as well as the happy noises she makes as she takes those first surprised and pleasured bites. It makes all the work he put into cooking worth it, and when he mentions how he made it with love, her cheeks turn pink, and she tries to banter back that she can feel it.

“So can I,” Jack says, his dark eyes soft and adoring as he reaches across the table to place his hand on hers. Alice turns her hand over to lace their fingers together and admires his eyes in the romantic candlelight. “Sunshine... Alice... I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Jack,” Alice replies just as fondly, and she can say it easily now, her light blue eyes soft and shining in the light. “So very much.”

Even though the sun went down a couple hours before, Jack feels as though he’s basking in warm sunshine when Alice looks at him like that, and her words make him melt into a puddle of goo.

It’s time. Jack stands to move around the table to Alice’s side, their hands still laced together. She smiles at him and reaches out for him with her other hand as he bends down, expecting a kiss or even more... only for him to go lower. It catches her off-guard until she sees him get down on one knee and pull a ring box out of his pocket.

Alice is too stunned so speak, so Jack fills in the silence. He had an entire speech prepared. He talks about how much he loves her, how much she meant to him, how much she’s always meant to him since the day they met. She’s his angel who saved him from hell. She always looked at him like a person and cared about him even when she was afraid he wasn’t real or that his intentions might not be truthful at first. She was so kind and courageous, giving him a chance to prove how much he cared about her despite her misgivings or how hurt she was in the past.

Jack knows he can’t give her a grand wedding in front of all her friends and family... he can’t even promise a legal marriage. What he can promise is forever. Even if the world could never understand what they have, it doesn’t need to, because their love is more important than anything else in the world.

“Alice... will you marry me?”

The speech moved Alice to tears, smearing her makeup, but she was beyond caring. It was all she could do to choke back a whimper or sob so she wouldn’t miss a single word of his proposal. However, even after Jack finishes, her voice won’t work, too choked up with emotions, and she manages to nod. In her heart, she screams the word “Yes!” over and over, but her voice won’t cooperate with her. When she still can’t speak, she throws herself into his arms and clings close, nodding over and over as she buries her face into Jack’s neck and cries, overwhelmed and full of joy.

“It’s okay,” Jack coos softly as he nuzzles into her hair. “Take your time. I’ll be right here when you can say it out loud.” He kisses her softly then. “God... I love you so much.”

“Y... yes,” Alice eventually forces out, her voice cracking. “Yes,” she says again a little stronger. She repeats the word again and again, as it comes more easily each time. Finally she pulls back, her carefully done makeup ruined, but to Jack she’s never looked more beautiful. “Yes, I’ll marry you. Jack... Jack, I love you so much.”

Jack can’t hold back, he kisses Alice, pouring all his love into that single gesture. She returns the kiss with just as much enthusiasm, pawing at his back, a part of her desperately trying to get closer to him than is humanly possible. He draws her closer in return, only parting when she needs to breathe. As she catches her breath, her face adorably flushed, he slips the ring on her finger.

For a moment, Alice can only stare at the ring in wonder. It’s a beautiful thing, a gold band with a sunburst design around a blue stone with red and yellow accents. After a moment though, she has to ask how he got it, wondering if it’s something as supernatural (and unseen by others) as his changes of clothes.

Jack admits he ordered it online from a jeweler. He had to do it secretly so she wouldn’t find out, but he earned the money himself.

Stunned, Alice can only ask how, and though Jack is loathe to bring up Shaun during a moment like this that should be only about the two of them, he has to mention his friend and rival because he does owe Shaun for helping him. Practical effects for a horror movie are a lot more effective and unsettling with a ghost(?)’s help after all.

Alice can’t help but be moved by how far Jack went for her sake, and the tears flow anew. She kisses him, and he eagerly returns it. The time for talk has passed, and now it’s time for them to show how much they love each other with their bodies.

The mess they make together is even more amazing than Jack imagined. Alice is so beautiful wearing his engagement ring, moaning his name and telling him how much she loves him, forever. He makes sure to reward her for saying those beautiful words he longed to hear for so long by praising her, worshipping her body, and making sure she feels nothing less than the most beautiful and lovely person in the world.

Whatever else Alice might have expected to happen on their date night between dinner and their bedroom is forgotten as they lose themselves in each other. Even after Jack finishes inside her, he doesn’t pull out, and she won’t let him either with the way her legs remain securely locked around his hips. Kisses, soft and lazy follow in the afterglow, peppered with soft murmurs of love.

It would be a perfect end to the night, but Jack isn’t done, not by a long shot. Soon the fire is stoked again, and Alice welcomes to heat. She loses track of how many times they make each other cum, and soon all she can say is his name as he thoroughly loves her well into the night.

The next day, a text is sent in to her boss from her phone, stating that Alice is too sick to go to work. Jack lets her sleep in late for once and admires the way the morning sun makes his sunshine, his fiancée, shine.

They really will be together forever. Alice, this beautiful, wonderful ray of sunshine who pulled him out of hell truly loves him and wants to be with him forever. Jack can truly believe it now, and he’s never felt happier.

I own five reptiles!! Three snakes and two bearded dragons (I do post them occasionally on here, pls filter out tw snake if needed). And I technically co-parent my brother's bastard gecko.

My other main fandoms (that you won't see on here) are ATLA/TLOK, Taleblr, FNAF, Spiderverse and The Owl House. I am currently watching Criminal Minds and Percy Jackson and The Olympians, and I do have somewhat of an interest in Jurassic Park, the Monsterverse, Fionna and Cake, PJO and What We Do In The Shadows.

My top ten favorite movies are Across The Spiderverse, The Batman (2022), Venom, Five Nights at Freddy's, Puss In Boots: The Last Wish, Godzilla Minus One, Into The Spiderverse, Kong Skull Island, Jurassic Park and HTTYD.

I also really enjoy rock/metal/goth/punk/alt music. My favorite musical artists are Nickelback, Delilah Bon, Babymetal, Måneskin, Ice Nine Kills and Rammstein- but I also enjoy artists such as Siouxsie and the Banshees, JT Music, Hanabie, Band-Maid, Lesbian Bed Death and Nine Inch Nails. I like horror movies, online korean webcomics, goth fashion, cats, horror related media and animation. I'm a fledgling goth (or baby bat) and tend to enjoy drawing characters in goth or alternative fashion, so expect some of that here!

I'm a multishipper with no absolute 'favorite' ship. I like Rusame, Amepan, Romerica, CanUkr, Prumano, Spamano, Spaprumano, Sufin, Prucan and FrUk. I'm pretty neutral on Gerame, Nedport, Asakiku, Giripan, Spafra, Itapan, and a few others. Generally pretty open to most pairings though.

I do not like any -cest pairings whatsoever. I am not going to argue about this. Please do not tag any of my NA bros art as ship; I will block you.

Fun facts I never got a chance to share

I always imagined Locolichi civilization and infrastructure to look something like slave zero and Bogleech’s mortasheen. A world irreversibly polluted and covered in sprawling ungodly huge several mile high cities.

Melalo’s two heads are actually false heads, as his central brain and mouth is located between them, and the false heads have ganglia instead of actual brains. They are also boneless and move much like octopus arms and elephant trunks. They’re really closer to arms or eyestalks in function!

Tcaridyi doesn’t look too hairy but that’s because she’s covered in a layer of more normal sized hairs! Admittedly I should have illustrated it like that.

In the original legend Poreskoro is a self fertilizing hermaphrodite, and I kept the hermaphroditism in the god child version (minus the self fertilization), but I also took the opportunity to insert some more lgbtq rep. So I also made them an enby. So diversity win! The giant biological god of disease who has caused unfathomable suffering is non-binary. Poreskoro is also probably the least horrible person of the god children, as they don’t actually want to cause harm and were essentially roped into their circumstances after their creation.

This entire thing was actually inspired by @evolutionsvoid’s 2022 kaijune! I really liked it and thought “I wanna do a kaiju short story about disease generation monsters of Romani legend”, so I did.

Q&A

Anonymous asks: “How come the art for the Locolichi and Keshali is shaded, but you didn’t you shade the god children?”

I technically could have, but didn’t for 2 reasons. I was already putting a ton of effort into the illustrations with the line and color work and wanted to get one done at least once a week (before the huge break after part 6). The second is that guardians are luminescent, and I don’t know how to illustrate colored light reflecting off bodies or how that would impact normal shading.

Anonymous asks: “Why do all the god children have stuff in their eyes?”

They were meant to sort of be eye trails to convey movement like Nargacuga, and I made them slightly electric by making them wavy and have sparks to convey power. In hindsight I should have just stuck to a tapering line. Oh well.

Anonymous asks: “I was reading the guardian doc and I got to the one about strength so I’m wondering how powerful are the strongest guardians?”

Have you seen that clip of Omniman setting the Flaxans back to the Stone Age? Or One Punch Man?

Anon asks: “The story isn’t very subtle.”

Well I’m not one for subtlety in my writing. I live in America and critical thinking and media analysis are skills that are very hard to come by here, so unless you beat the audience over the head most Americans aren’t going to realize stuff. So that’s what I do. The audience WILL understand the message I’m conveying. They don’t have a choice.

What’s next?

I’m mostly going to be taking things slower now that I don’t have a self imposed deadline anymore. Just slowly chipping away at a to do list of mine, and once it’s done I can actually start writing a book. I’m still of course going to be providing art and occasional comments to Unnatural History Channel, and being a writing consultant for some of my friends like @dappercritter. I also might do a few commissions soon too.

As for what specifically I’m going to do next. I’m going to write a short story and post it to my patreon, revisit and redo character overviews for Gigabash, read a book I promised a follower I’d review, and then maybe make a Humans B Gone fanart.

RECENT ECOMMERCE NEWS (INCLUDING ETSY), January 2024

Welcome to my first commerce news update of 2024!

Now that we are through the intensity of the holiday rush, I plan on getting a few of these out each month. Please follow me on Bluesky or on LinkedIn if you want more timely updates. (New ways to get updates coming soon!)

TOP NEWS & ARTICLES 

Some Etsy listings now have a link which displays some shop owners' names and home addresses under the seller contact info, which says “Meet your seller”. This may be legally required in some jurisdictions, including within the US if you don’t have a proper location on your shop, but here is how to remove it if you don’t need it. Here’s some of the info on the US INFORM Act which could require disclosure of your information; the EU and UK are other jurisdictions which sometimes may require this info if you sell to them. 

Reminder that UK small sellers may end up having their taxable income reported by the platforms they sell on starting for 2024. “The first deadline for firms to report details of transactions is the end of January 2025 – a year after the rules come into force. Bank account details and the cost of transactions made by sellers with sizable trading activity must be reported.” Etsy reminded shop owners that there is no change in taxes owed in the UK; the changes force platforms to report income so that people can’t evade taxes as easily. 

In case you missed it, many USPS rates, as well as forever stamps, went up again on January 21. Some label services such as eBay may actually offer decreases in certain categories, however.

ETSY NEWS 

Etsy announced 2 (very different) “privacy” changes at the beginning of January: limiting some third-party apps from receiving buyer email addresses, and making the Etsy forum a seller-only site in the near future. Shops will have to log in to read anything other than Announcements and the Technical Issues sections. We are not yet sure if this applies to shops in long-term vacation mode. 

Etsy teased a promotional announcement on Jan. 16, which is likely that the site will be launching Gift Mode [post by me with a link to another post with screenshots]. I’ll write more on that once it is officially released, but here is one of my screenshots from today, with lots of infringement. Also, the site is apparently buying a Super Bowl ad. This year’s ads are expected to cost at least $7 million USD. Etsy forum thread discussing both topics here. 

Etsy chose not to respond to this article about AI art sold as indigenous creations. “Etsy has a policy that prohibits users from selling items falsely listed as being produced by Indigenous peoples — but only in Northern America, and allows “Indigenous-style” products by non-Indigenous people.”

Some shop owners from Turkey claim their shops are being shut down at a high rate, with no explanation. At least some had issues with items that cannot be sold on Etsy, and there appeared to be some with ID or financial anomalies. I am still interested in hearing more, if anyone knows anything. 

EcommerceBytes covered the Etsy problems with the domestic pricing tool charging some international buyers domestic prices, which have been going on since May 2023. While some sellers have managed to get refunds from the company, others report no such luck.

General

The Indie Sellers Guild is running a virtual convention in April; read the panel ideas here. 

Amazon

Amazon product pages now have a link to get AI-answers to your questions. Expect to see a lot more of this on many types of sites. 

There are several keyword tools that can help you optimize your Amazon products; 5 are discussed here, but note that some may be pricy.

The latest layoffs at Amazon include people working for the “Buy with Prime” department. 

Amazon’s difficult-to-navigate system for suspensions and other punishments has led to entire law firms dedicated to supporting shops that have been closed or have had listings removed. 

BigCommerce

BigCommerce sites can now have a marketplace component, meaning that a single business site can now have other sellers on it. 

eBay

eBay had to pay $3 million over its behaviour in the cyberstalking case against Ina and David Steiner, owners of EcommerceBytes. The Steiners issued a victim impact statement; the civil lawsuit in this matter goes to trial in March 2025. 

eBay’s discounted Tracked Packet rate from Canada Post has been extended to March 31, 2024. 

Buyers and sellers are getting annoyed with long delays in product authentication. 

eBay called a few sellers and pushed them to offer cheaper shipping rates, based on the discounted rates for eBay’s labels. (They seem to have forgotten that they charge fees on those shipping rates.)

Poshmark

Poshmark’s recent policy changes included a class action waiver. Changes are effective February 5. 

All Other Marketplaces

Depop released its first Trends Report, similar to those put out by its parent company, Etsy. 

Bonanza is introducing a combo website builder/inventory integration and accounting platform called Vercado. Price will be $99 a month, so I strongly suggest investigating what - if any - advantages it provides over its competitors. 

Payment Processing

PayPal and Venmo are teasing some big ecommerce plans for this year, to be announced on Jan. 25. It involves use of AI, and the possibility of improving engagement rates. 

Shipping 

There have been numerous reports of major USPS shipping delays, especially in Texas.
