An 'Early' Analysis of Chainsaw Man Chapter 138

Woah hey I'm back, I didn't feel like talking about the past few chapters cause I didn't feel like I had anything to add since they all seemed pretty straight forward. That being said this chapter gives me alot of talk about. So we get a name for Sex Offender Girl. Boy this woman only gets worse the more we learn about her. Mifune is quite literally a government plant in denji's high school.

It's refreshingly disgusting the type of shit these girls will put denji through. It's like Fujimoto keeps trying to one up himself each time he introduces a new "love interest" (Mifune is not a love interest she is a sexual predator let's keep this 100% clear). Maki was a groomer, Mifune is just a straight up Pedophile. She is going to have such a satisfying death I can feel it. This chapter goes on to confirm a few things. First off, Yoshida is apart of Public Safety. Which sorta debunks a previous thought I had of him being apart of another group. I am interested to learn 1. What Divison 7 does 2. Which Division Yoshida is in Given we know 4 was the rejects and 5 are hybrids. My best guess is that Division 7 is a sort of Espionage/Intel Division. Yoshida likely also belongs to Division 7 unless he's got some silliness going on, Which is very likely. Actually- I just now realized something. She calls it "Special Division 7" not Division 7. Looking through the list of Division members on the Wiki, That Special Prefix is very important. The Special Divisions are all full of freaks and monsters. This Sex Offender is more than likely a monster all to her own if she's apart of a Division we've never even heard of.

Public Safety is just as fucked up as actual governments. It's great.

I hate that she's winning me over. I want this woman dead stop making me think she's silly. Fujimoto is really good at humanizing horrible people. It mirrors real life monsters who tend to blend in with society and even seem charming on the surface. Moving on from this fucking Sex Offender. Asa continues to be the realest character in the series.

I doubt I even need to say anything about how real she is. Asa is a deeply disturbed and neglected person who's shut off from the world despite her own need to validation and recognition. She and Denji are different sides of the same coin. While she tries not to show it, The fulfillment she receives from praise seeps through. This scene specifically resonated with me a ton.

I wish we got a better look into Denji's thoughts in this scene. I can't even really get a grasp on what he must be thinking through all of this. In the last few days he's lost a major part of himself and has been replaced in face by a fraud and in action by a girl who he was forced to dump by his sister. There was a moment here before the reveal on this very page where I was thinking Swords was someone else. It was clearly someone from Part 1. He had a hoodie so maybe it was Violence? But that couldn't be real Violence was killed by Darkness. WAIT- BEAM? No I couldn't be beam he's been dead aswell. The Chapter is called Swordman so then maybe it's Katana man's return? No he wouldn't be on speaking terms with Denji after his testicles got mashed. So then-

Turns out it's the Longsword Hybrid from the end of Part 1. Yeah turns out he's alive. Which as many people have pointed out, Means the rest of the Hybrids are alive. So is Reze alive? Certain fans seem to think she is. At this point she seems to be the only match for Denji who isn't a complete psycho. But she still tried to kill him. But then Denji was still willing to run away with her at the end of the fight. If she does come back I hope she and Denji don't rush into a relationship, Let them chill for a bit before getting into anything serious Fujimoto please. If Reze really is alive I'll talk about her more in depth when she shows back up. But I need to say my peace.

The Whip Hybrid is going to be insane popular and so many of them are going to be just as Horny as Anime-Only Makima fans. I hope Swords ends up being chill with Denji and not another dickhead who tries to kill him. Denji needs another Male friend who doesn't treat him like shit. His only known ""friend"" in part 2 is yoshida and we all know yoshida has not been treating him well.

Gou has an older brother, right? What happens to him later on? Did Gou ever resent him for insulting him and being cold to him?

First of all, I'm sorry for the delay in answering your questions. I'm busy with commissions and now my tablet cable is broken so I'm waiting for the new one to arrive. I did some drawings for this post, but they look ugly, I'm so rusty for traditional art so don't mind how weird they look!! Secondly, thank you for sending an ask about it, I struggle a bit to post details of my characters' stories, so this kind of question is very important to me.

Okay so, It's hard to explain correctly what will happen to him due to the lack of characters posted yet. (I ended up taking a break due to burnout and now my Mugen No Kagi stuff is late!! But I have tons of dudes and girls to post very soon.) Gou's brother is an antagonist that I created so that Gou's backstory wouldn't feel so empty. He doesn't have a name (and I don't intend to give him one); he simply serves to add depth and cause events that will impact the stories of the main characters. An abusive older brother who thinks he can do whatever he wants because he has a respected status in the Japanese imperial army (He's an Officer). In fact he is just very bitter about the things that have happened in his life and takes it out on people. He also feels very burdened having full responsibility for his younger brother, and knows that if Gou fails, it will be his fault. Regarding Gou's feelings towards him, I can say that Gou would definitely like to receive affection in some way, but as his life has been hard since his birth and he has practically never felt real affection from his family, he understands that his brother's way of demanding a lot from him is just a concern so he doesn't end up failing and ruining the family reputation.

(The blade cuts on Gou's face were actually made during katana training with his brother) the cut is also mirrored, but who cares?

Gou see his brother as an extremely exemplary person, and want to be an officer like him, or at least an important soldier. If his brother is mad at him for any reason, he understands that there is something wrong with himself, so he is always trying to be the "perfect young brother". His brother imposes a lot of rules in the house, so Gou's routine boils down to: going to school, returning home, taking care of the corpses and doing daily chores. When he's done he spends the rest of the afternoon and night doing his stuff and reuniting with the club.

Gou's brother knows that he has a girlfriend (wait for her), and also knows that he is a strange child, but he doesn't really care about it at first and have no idea what really happens. (When he's off work, he basically watches television and listens to the radio all day while Gou does his chores. Sometimes he spends the day with a woman he has romantic interests in.) Eventually, Gou will start to disobey some rules and return to the house after days and this will greatly irritate his brother who will be bothered by Gou's strange behavior. He will also notice strange smells on him, and will soon discover a pile of stolen skulls and creepy stuff Inside Gou's room. He will then start following Gou to find out what he is doing while outside, and will find out about the occult club and the graves desecration.

What I plan for him is an unexpected encounter with Akumu during a fucked up moment, and Akumu ends up killing him (Eventually this will be clearer?? I don't have many details about what his end will be as I might change my mind, so take this with a grain of salt! ) You can actually read more about Gou in his Toyhouse page.

An analysis on miwa kasumi (underrated)

Miwa kasumi starts as a character who is stated to be a normal bland teenage girl who likes to follow with the trends. Miwa's whole name reflects that as it's been stated that as a name miwa has became a very popular name having it's peak in the late 1990s to early 2000s. The name miwa also means beauty and harmony which is something that's quite reflected to her character.

Miwa is known to be a poor girl who ended up illegally working when she was in middle school to try and support her family which consists of her mother and two younger brothers. It can be assumed that due to her working that she never had any friends which would explain her awkward behaviour around others. Miwa probably initially took the role of a Jujutsu sorcerer to support and provide for her family.

Miwa seems to have some very low self esteem and continually undermines her own abilities only believing that the only thing she is capable of is wielding a katana and her simple domain, without it she is utterly useless. This seems to be a heavily engraved ideology that she has as we see her label herself as "useless miwa" and even go on to state that she cannot fight and is useless in the final arc because she made a binding bow meaning thay she cant wield a katana anymore.

Slowly Jujutsu sorcery became an escape for miwa where she could finally fit in and live out a simple trendy life that she wanted. A life where she can finally surround herself with friends and people who care about her, a life where she can do and follow the trends that she wants freely without worrying about money, a life where she can provide and help her a family, a life where she can be a bland miwa someone who doesn't have to or needs to stand out at all but just do the simple job of killing curses. This is why she is seen to be very sympathetic towards the Tokyo students because she understands how hard it is to lose a classmate and why she seems hesitant to follow the plan of killing yuji itadori.Throughout her career as a sorcerer miwa met mechamaru who is both a close friend and her soul mate.

Both Mechamaru and miwa are polar opposites who share a lot in common and get on well extremely sadly they don't get a happy ending.

Miwa is described to be as a simple normal girl whereas muta is the odd one out due to his fragile condition and health

We are told that miwa was taught and scouted by none other than kuskabe. This explains they're small moments that the mentor and mentee share together and it also makes the moment where kuskabe rescued miwa a whole lot more significant. They both seem to care about eachother especially miwa who appreciates the opportunity that he gave her to be a Jujutsu sorcerer and taught her how to survive the harsh world of jjk.

We are told that one of the reasons why miwa was scouted was due to her natural blue hair colour which is very unusual and due to that her mother resorted to dying her hair whenever miwa would play baseball (miwa was the capitan of the youth baseball team). For a bland/normal character miwa usually ends up sticking out like a sore thumb a lot of the time. Miwa is someone who doesn't fully fit in as a sorcerer due to her lack of strength but doesn't fit in as a non sorcerer due to the fact that she has blue hair and can see curses. Mechamaru's last words to miwa advise her to find her own happiness which I think miwa does try to do that which leads her to making that binding vow and act kenjaku. The binding vow and attack she took are based on her own actions and decisions its her own way of taking control and trying to do something (whether its revenge or justice is unknown and so are her intentions). She puts all that she has into one swing which sadly fails and definitely didn't help her self esteem, she probably went on to view her self as useless and to fight this idea she entered the culling games but now she had nothing to defend herself with.

However, miwa becomes a somewhat important member. She has become useful by just staying alive and that helps stop the merging from happening because if everyone who participated in the culling games is dead she is alive to stop it from happening. I think this is such a cruel way of her becoming useful. She can now do nothing to really help sorcerers all she can do is live and ensure that the merging doesn't happen.

Michael sat quietly in the corner of the cruise ship as he read the good book. He tried his best to ignore the hooping and hollering of the partying going on around him by his fellow classmates. He hated parties, honestly he hated the hustle and bustle, the noise, not to mention some of the uncomfortable subject matter that was brought up especially when underage drinking was involved. 

So why was he here? That answer was as simple as it was sad. He may not have liked parties or cruises or summer trips, but they helped him escape his home life. Anything was better than being at home.

You had Clint, He was your stereotypical geek. Video games were his forte but he also had a thing for boardgames, movies, novels. If there was a subject matter he probably had some knowledge about it. 

There was becky. she was a cheerleader and Alex’s girlfriend but aside from cheerleading she was also loved to cook. And she loved to run. 

Dan and sam were something straight out of a horror movie, Aside from the fact that they both looked like Vampires they had a strange habit of finishing each other’s sentences. It was like they were a unimind of sorts. As much as Michael was viewed as the creepy kid, he viewed the vampire twins as the real unnerving people. 

Jessica was the army brat of Alex’s little group. Tall and broad, she was probably the most athletic of the group next to Alex, and on top of all that she had skills both in firearms and bushcraft so if there was ever a citation where you need to survive the wilderness, Jess was the girl you wanted. 

Last but not least was Hiroshi He claimed to be a descendant of a samurai and frankly both Mike and Alex believed it. The guy often carried a Katana with him outside of school and he DID know how to use it. It. Mike never talked to him often, but he always did find Japanese culture to be fascinating, even if a lot of it was romanticized…

Gianna Rhee, most known for being the smartest girl in class or the girl in the pink dress. small but tough, 5'1 so really small but tough, independent,, smart but reckless.

Gianna "Gian" Rhee is smart, both literally and figuratively. she was not a force to be reckoned with. she graduated school at the age of 16, unlike her older brother, she went to Harvard with a scholarship, well she would've if it wasn't for the apocalypse.

while she was on the drive to the airport unfortunately for her, the apocalypse hit. her brother tried to find her, but he instead found Shane's group. Shane brought his hopes down and said you were probably dead. but he didn't give up, he tried sneaking out a few times, but there would always be walkers waiting for him.

and here she was, in the other side of Atlanta, trying to find a way out of Atlanta in hopes of finding her brother. she first raided the comic book store, stashing thousands of comic books into her bag.

next was the music store, grabbing the best albums and a Sony walkman along side some cassette tapes. and then she went to a grocery, stashed a lot of food.

then, after that she went to a neighborhood found a house with an awesome katana took it with her, and the rest is history. she spent most of her days, exploring random houses, and the city, while trying to find her brother.

she settled down in a random suburban house on the end of the street of some random neighborhood, the windows were boarded down, there was multiple locks on the door, and also a trap to alert her if the door was opened, it was just a little bell on her bedroom so nothing noisy. she was living the apocalyptic suburban life. it wasn't the best.

it was hard with no one to contact for a few days, but it was for the better, she spent those days, working out for once a week cause it would get boring, then on Tuesday would be supply run day, Wednesday would be sit down and relax day, Thursday would be killing random walkers and training her swordsmanship, Friday is finding her brother day, Saturday too, and Sunday.

she did find a few people but she chose to ignore them, since they could either be dangerous or weird. plus, she never really was the social one, it was her brother. after all he is a pizza boy.

so without having anyone to talk to, she'd just listen to music while killing walkers all the time. and from time to tie, using her crazy chemistry mind, she'd create explosives or napalm from the ingredients she find.

it was boring, she'd admit that to time to time. saying that life is boring. that's why she tried so hard to find her brother, to find someone to finally talk to. but still no brother, she never spoke or even let someone see her if she ever finds someone or a group, because at that moment she knew that all she could trust was her brother.

then more than two years passes, she still does her same routine everyday, this time in a new city, newnan. she had already explored McDonough and found nothing, so she moved to newnan. she found a small town there, it's a walled town, so she decided to have some fun and throw some smoke bombs toward the entrance.

little did she know that she messed with something bad, but anyways, she could careless since she mostly really cared about finding her brother. she was alone so she had to have fun even if it was the small things, like a walker bumping into a wall, or pushing a walker off of a building.

but what made her the most happiest in a year is finding a cute pink dress in the apocalypse, it had no blood, surprisingly. it was perfect it was a cute white dress with pink flowers on it, she knew she looked pretty when twirling around in it.

that was it, her life was almost, almost perfect. all she needed was her big brother. that was all she wanted, to have her big brother back again. she could've gotten everything she wants, but now she only wants her brother, her only family.

but maybe living in a pent house in New York wouldn't be so bad. but no, her brother always is first in her heart. she never really knew her parents, she mostly lived with her brother since they had a ten-year age difference.

while she was walking around the neighborhood, mindlessly looting houses, Gianna saw a girl, she was an average height girl, had long hair, she really didn't pay that much attention to her. that girl was accompanied by a semi-tall Latina, she looked hella sassy with that nasty pose of hers.

then Gianna saw him, the one thing she was missing, her brother. as if it was impulse but she ran to him, hugging him tightly. Gianna didn't see her brother for a very long time. "woah woah hey!" one of the girls shouted, trying to push you away from him

"hey! what is you're problem." she was quick to pull out her katana and point it at her, it was the Latina, and she was surely mean. "hey! hey! gia, that's my friend." glenn calmed you down. "wow finally got a friend? I'm so proud of you big bro!" she playfully punched his shoulder, her friends called her Gian while her family calls her Gia.

"you've changed." he smiled hugging her once again, mentioning to the dress and the katana. "oh well, the dress is when I was in really deep stuff, it was hard being alone for, exactly three years, seven months and twenty-nine days, glad it didn't reach eight months." Gianna laugh as her brother look at her in sympathy.

"Gia, I-i wished I would've found you sooner. I promised I never loss hope in you, I'm really really sorry." he sighs, while she furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "oh please, it's fine big bro, you know I always enjoyed alone time. sure for not a long long time, but still. it's fine."

"hey, I'm T-Tara." one of the girls held her hand out for Gianna to shake, the girl-Tara seemed kind, she held a smile on her face, so for Gianna that was considered nice. "I'm Gian." Gia introduces herself, awkwardly shaking the girl's hand.

"I'm Rosita." her face was stern, it was clear that she didn't trust you. "okay, damn." Gia mumbled under her breath, scared for the Latina to hear. "what was that?" the Latina questioned, as Gia raised her hands in a act of surrender. "nothing."

it was clear that the Latina like being in control or not letting anyone get in her way, she had a tough and stubborn personality, of course she got that while one the way back to their base.

"you got married?!" Gia exclaimed, quite loudly, causing a walker to walk to them, but Gia quickly got rid of it. "yeah, she-she's the best." Gia noticed the way his eye light up whenever talking about his wife, Maggie.

"she's a farm girl huh." Gia chuckled, as Glenn kept on talking about multiple stories that happened while Gia was away, sad or happy, Gia was happy to hear all of it. Gia was the quiet child that used to eat alone in elementary, while her brother was the socially awkward guy who was loved by many teachers, because of his kindness.

"yeah she is." he replied, still smiling widely by just talking about his wife. "really? well you know what they say, save a horse, ride a cowboy, or in your situation a cow girl." you ever so innocently smile, while going into a random store.

Rosita snickers while Tara laughs, Gia's brother just stood there shocked of what her younger sister said. "you really changed, and hey comeback, there might be walkers in there." Glenn called out to Gia, still so protective of her sister despite being twenty years old already.

"look! I found a picture frame!" Gia excitedly showed her brother, it was still intact, no shattering or on the frame. you wipe off the walker blood off of your katana's blade and your arm, surprisingly, your dress still had no stains.

"we can take our picture, as a family." Gia smiled widely, she was like a kid on a super rush. she was beyond excited to her the so-called wife of her brother, Maggie Rhee, and take a perfect family portrait, like how she always wanted.

"o-of course. that would be amazing. we'll show it to our future kids." Glenn smiled widely too, and what Rosita and Tara noticed that smiling or facial expressions was into the Rhee blood.

Rosita was always weirded out with people using their facial expressions or smiling too much, but with Gian it was different, as if she found Gian beautiful, but Rosita will never admit that, because it's not true.

but for Tara it's different, she knew she found Gian's smile beautiful. that's it. she's not ashamed admit it, she always believed in honesty is the best policy, but she was afraid.

"let's go to your camp now, I have lots of food." Gia says, as they begin to walk back to their camp. Gia was smart, so she knew to ration the food, she has. she settled to one meal a day to keep her alive, and remember she's smart, so she know how much nutrients one human body needs to survive.

with water it was different, it was only eight cups a day, she always has a cup with her, whenever she would run out of water, she would make a small filtration contraption near a river so she would get some safe to drink water.

and that's how she survived for so long. she was smart with how she survived, she was born to survive, in a apocalypse not a camping trip, she couldn't it would be to muddy or a lot of worms. that's why even in an apocalypse, Gia would often stay in the towns only not forests, she couldn't risk getting her dress dirty.

"who is this?" a tall, burly, red headed guy asked. "I'm Gian, Gianna Rhee." one thing about Gia was she could never back down from a fight, whether it was someone twice her size or someone older than her, she never backs down from a fight, that's what makes her reckless.

"she's my sister. she's a great asset to this group." Glenn explained, trying to get her to stay. "no." the red-headed man, said sternly. "what?"

"she looks weak. we can't afford someone weak." the man added, making Gia's eyebrows furrow. "what? me? weak." Gia laughed in recklessness of what she is about to do. "I could take you in a fight."

"Gia, I love you but you are going to die." Glenn whispered in Gia's ear. "try me." the red head stepped a step closer to Gia, while Glenn stepped in front of you. "hey, hey, why don't we calm down? we can talk things out."

"well, big brother. it seems your friend here is not a man of words, can't say I'm not the same." and once again, the red head stepped closer. nothing scared Gia, other than the one person she loves the most dying, but other than that she was fearless.

"c'mon. try me. hit me with your best shot."

"oh, you trying to quote song names with me now? then let's get this party started." Gia said, as Glenn finally stopped the two. "hey! we are keeping her in the group no matter what you say."

"why don't we vote on it? raise your hand if you want her to stay." the red headed man steps back. Tara's hand was sweetly immediately put up, along with Glenn's and Maggie.

you waved hi, to Maggie and she waves hi back. "majority wins." Gia shrugs, scrunching her face in a way of apology but she keeps on smirking. "fine, we can keep her. but we have to get more food each week."

"oh don't worry I have an ed." Gia jokes, giving the red headed man backpack filled with food and water. "Gia." Glenn playfully smack her shoulder in a way of scolding. "what? it's better to joke about it, rather than sulk about it."

she went through a lot in the normal world, sure her parents were beyond proud hearing their daughter had been granted a scholarship at Harvard, but the way there was terrible. Gia had spent nights studying until the sun rises or physically and mentally hurting herself whenever she would five or more wrongs on a quiz or an exam.

she was just a kid, she didn't know how to cope with it. no one had ever taught her that, so she just decided that the universe get to choose on how people cope, and the universe had given her an ed, and almost trips to a mental facility.

but hey, Gia's still alive, so all of the is gone, past is past, just like Gia always says. "hi, I'm Glenn's sister. you can call me Gia." Gia says, smiling as she hugged her sister-in law. "I guess I officially consider you now as my family, so you can call me Gia."

"I'm Maggie." her accent came out, and from that it was obvious she was an a farm girl. "yeah, glenn told me all about you." Gia chuckled, realizing how much her brother loved the girl.

"Gia! come here." Glenn calls out to you, as you excuse yourself from Maggie. "what is it?" she asks walking to her brother. "how do you find food? or at least safe to drink water."

"well I ration them, I ration them to one meal a day. and I find food quite easily because I raided the grocery stores second day of the apocalypse. I found a lot." Gia explains. "well what if that food runs out?" a man with a stupid haircut asks.

"well, for water, I would go to a lake, build a small filtration device and the rest is history, for food I would raid houses." Gia responds to the man, as the group listens clearly. "what filtration device is that?"

"you know a classic. cloth and a water bottle, or distillation."

"distillation? does that not take a long time?"

"woah, are you smart like me too? but yeah It did, but hey, it's pretty much the cleanest, with the items we have now."

"wow she's smart."

"you too. what's your favorite element?"

"hydrogen."

"sorry, lithium or lead, 'cause you know lead and j." Gia jokes, in which for the first time, someone actually laughed, then the two of them geek out on science facts. "nerds." Rosita called Gia and man with bad haircut.

"we're just smart. doesn't mean we're nerds." Gia rolls her eyes, and Rosita just walks away, staring at Gia one more time before going somewhere. Rosita didn't like Gia that much, it was obvious, well she rarely like anyone new anyways, but for her Gia was some what kind and smart, Rosita did find Gia a little bit of cute when she and Eugene geeked out and started spreading their useless science facts.

Rosita noticed how Gia's eyes glimmer when talking about science, Rosita notices the little things about Gia, not that she wanted it she just noticed it. like how she has one hand warmer, Rosita thought it was to hide Gia's scars on her wrist, but she could be wrong.

also on how Gia's wearing light pink and white socks with different design, indicating the other pairs were lost. on how she has a scar on her calf, apparently from a tree branch. how Gia's clothes were spotless, clean as if there was no apocalypse or any walkers.

Rosita also noticed how Gia's katana had pink bow on it's handle, or the little drawings on Gia's converse. Rosita noticed the little things, again, she didn't know why. it just appeared to her, despite Gia's bubbly personality, you can see that even someone as happy as her can go through a lot.

Rosita liked that, not Gia. just the idea, no. just the small things about her. no. she doesn't like anything about Gia.

it honestly bothers me when people make fun of "neckbeards" for being fat, or socially awkward, wearing goofy clothes, or liking "cringe" stuff like katanas or anime. Maybe some of it is category overlap making me feel bad. even though people tend not to categorize me the same way, tbh I think it's just because I'm a girl. I'm a chubby, neurodivergent, self-described otaku who wears serafuku (i.e. "cringe anime shit"), lives with her mom, and loves mall-ninja junk - that's pretty much the stereotype.

but it also like, bothers me because those things are harmless? like it seems like the first thing they always jump to is to make fun of them for being virgins, or fat, or cringe or whatever and the presumption of them being a shitty person is used to justify it. You know, it's like yeah there are a lot of shitty otaku, the stereotype didn't necessarily come from nowhere, but if the beliefs are what you find gross about them why would you make fun of something unrelated? I think people just want to make fun of them for being "weird" and believing that they "deserve it" makes them feel justified in it. it's not really any different than a shitty school bully to me.

Out of all the swords we see, whose sword design do you like most? Or if it’s too hard to pick an overall sword, then what’s your favorite blade, hilt, handle, and sheath? And if you were a demon slayer, how would you want your sword to look like? Bonus question asking who’s your favorite sword smith and if you would want any of them to be in charge of making your sword.

Hnnnggghhhh, Anooonnnnn, you're allowing me go fangirly over fantasy swords here, and I really can't pick a single favorite! Well, maybe Tanjiro's, as I love the combo austerity of the black blade, practical and symbolic handguard, and red accents in the hilt, and my tastes in katana really do lean traditional. But if I am allowed to pick some others: Favorite blade: Yoriichi's, because that single 滅 is indeed a beautiful statement, or Rengoku's, because I like the flame-shaped hamon. Also, Inosuke's are so iconic how can I not be attached to them? Okay but also, Muicihiro's is white and I'm really looking forward to seeing that animated? Favorite tsuba (handguard): As an aside, I love how iconic all the stuba area and how much fun there is to play with in motifs, both in the character designs and when making merch. As much as I love Tanjiro's for being like kunugi charcoal, I just have a general preference for it because it's circular, and therefore more practical to carry around. I love Kanao's for similar reasons, and the delicate design is just so fitting for a tsuba. However, if we ignore the fact that, say, Shinobu should had been stabbing herself in the ribs constantly and embrace the weapon fantasies, then without a doubt, Sanemi's is my favorite. Taking an innocent toy to symbolize the wind, but then making it an Angry Death Pinwheel? I love that.

Favorite hilt/handle: Kokushibo's, because the eyes peeping between the cords are fun. Also, having traditional tastes, I prefer the swords with criss-crossing cords.

Favorite sheath: While I really like the practical considerations of Iguro's, Shinobu's is both crafty and has beautiful craftsmanship! I love how you can see the outline of the blade's unique shape.

Sorry, Uzui, Himejima, and to an extent Mitsuri, your blades are just a little too far removed from traditional katana shapes to make it to my favorites, even if I do appreciate them for their own unique fun twists. While I'm talking about swords, I find it funny that Kaigaku's demon blood sword is basically a copy of his Nichirin-to, because he really couldn't yet shed the admiration for how cool he wanted to look with his. Maybe another few years and he'd have gained more creative freedom. Anyway, I love the little tassel at the top which matches Zenitsu's, ufufu.

Speaking of more creative freedom, Anon, you've opened a very self-indulgent door for me with that bonus question... after having been stuck in overly practical, traditional-leaning imagination, especially for katana, I've embraced that these are fantasy weapons and I can enjoy a fantasy too.

As much as I love katana, irl, my katana skills are very rudimentary. Instead, the martial art I'm most dedicated to is naginata. Please don't be impressed, I'm a regular Murata with it. It's the standard "atarashii (new) naginata" which makes it lean more toward being a fencing sport, which looks like kendo but uses more armor because you can strike people's ankles.

Striking ankles isn't really useful in fighting demons, unless it's a crafty demon that stores its brain in its feet or something. While I'm sure the Corp has a history of naginata Nichirin-to users, it wouldn't be very practical in the Taisho era because it's harder to hide, unless you're disguising yourself as a cute school girl who can smile at policemen and excuse yourself to gym class (in the middle of the night, suuuure). It's like a sword on a stick, they're kind of tall.

Going to go on a quick tangent here to say that there are nice real-world equivalents in sports martial arts that show a user's tastes or associations similar to how the haori in KnY do. In the case of naginata, you usually see this in the naginata-bukuro (bag/case for the naginata) and the tenugui (long cotton cloth tied around the head before putting on the helmet). While many team members may use the same tenugui, many people use whatever suits their tastes. They're not expensive but some in all sorts of designs, so they make good gifts and they're fun to accumulate. Personally, I cycle between a few given to me by different naginata teachers, and my favorite one, a reddish one with a nadeshiko pattern which one of my old tea teachers gave me. As for the naginata-bukuro, this isn't always necessary especially if you leave it in storage at the dojo like I do, but it helps identify which one is yours, or you cover your bamboo and oak sports weapon with you're traveling. It's very common to use traditional motifs and patterns, like the haori in KnY. Years ago I had a naginata-mom offer to make one for me, and seeing as I am indecisive, I chose a pattern which was basically patchwork of a whole bunch of traditional geometric patterns and symbolic motifs and flower patterns. I looked at it one day and realized I am my own Kleptic Cryptid Demon.

For my own silly self-insert back in this silly old post created with the Shonen Jump character generator (which sadly seems to have since gone down), I went with the favored tenugui pattern, but assumed katana use, because duh, katana are cool and they are more standard in the Demon Slayer Corp. I'm okay with standard, but as a fantasy Corp member, I also believe that you can't choose all your motifs and designs, the motifs and designs choose you. So, initially, I didn't assume much about the sword. I don't trust myself to design a nice one anyway.

I certainly didn't think of a naginata, because it would be impractical, but then it dawned on me that this series is full of fantasy weapons that should be stabbing their users in the ribs. I can have an impractical weapon too, if I want one! As long as I solve the issue of a naginata being difficult to travel with in the Taisho period (though I did consider throwing myself into past eras), I can have the weapon I'm best at! And since this is a fantasy, I don't have to be limited to my real life Murata style hard work based skill level, I can be talented! Probably can't get rid of my habit of aggressive desperation in sparring which makes me forget all finesse, though.

So! So here's what I've got, I was playing with the Nichirin-to naginata design...

...when I though about detaching the pieces carry the blade more like a katana! That way I can still kind of look like I'm going to do cool katana things with it, but then no!! Surprise!!!! I had a pole!!! I initially thought of carrying the pole like a staff, but my staff form is terrible, so instead I remembered toy light sabers that you flick strongly to make all the layers inside each other go out to full length. It's like a matryoshka doll, but a weapon! Yay! And in this fantasy, it folds up nicely with all the pieces roughly the same size, and even though they are hollow the metal is sturdy and has the same weight as if it were made of oak. And the two pieces get carried like a samurai would carry both a wakizashi and a katana, though both pieces would be considerably smaller.

Ultimately, naginata blades are not shaped the same as katana, and therefore wouldn't be drawn from a sheath in the same way. That is, unless you go to swordsmith who comes up with creative solutions for differently shaped blades! If we assume the swordsmiths in KnY cover all the skills necessary for a completed weapon instead of leaving each piece to a different specialist as is typically done irl, then I want to go to the creator of Iguro's sword, who also happens to be the son of the Village Head.

And!! A thank-you to the Anon who asked me what enhanced sense I'd want, as that got me thinking about tiny flowers with big scents which I love! I finally hit upon a motif that might suit me, and is varied enough to satisfy my indecisiveness! (And anyway, I love when metal inlay is used in tsuba, I from from the get-go that I wanted that.)

Well... you can't choose everything. So there you have it, that is how I would get this tacky collection of a bright red haori not well suited to a Wind Breath user, a delicate and subtle metal naginata, and an amberjack/yellowtail blade.

Manga With Me: JJK Crackpot (But Maybe Not) Pocket Theory Edition

Miwa's Origin

The Games are revealing more and more to us while the tunnel vision around each fight leaves a lot to the imagination, specifically as it pertains to the health and welfare of some of our favorite jujutsu sorcerers (and those in training). I’m of the mind that nothing in Gege Akutami’s story has been without purpose and that includes the inclusion of some of the less flashy characters. So, go with me down this "what if" rabbit hole -

⚠️ Spoiler warning: covers content through chapter 187

Buckle up, dorks, this is going to be a bumpy one. I'm doing a lot of mental gymnastics to get there so, if you're not interested in the read, jump to the end for the TLDNR!

With the way jujutsu society is set up, we've got a lot of big family names that go back centuries and have carried weight within the community. The Zenin, Gojo and Kamo clans come to mind most readily (though we find that Toge Inumaki also comes from a jujutsu family).

At this point, it wouldn't be surprising, with the incarnation of several old curse users, that we start seeing more situations like the below wherein someone's great-great-great-great something runs the risk of cropping up and crossing their own kin.

What a messed up family.. bush?

What's critical about this reveal is that we see Kenjaku has been deeply ingrained in the fabric of jujutsu history. He's worn many names and faces that aren't limited just to Suguru Geto, Kaori Itadori and Noritoshi Kamo. Additionally, we see that with each iteration, he's closing in on his end goal which includes the experimentation and evolution of curses. With an evil that seems to span hundreds of years, I'm sure he's besmirched the good name of plenty of sorcerers but, more importantly, born witness to much the jujutsu world has to offer. At this point, we know that includes none other than Hajime Kashimo as revealed in recent chapters.

In terms of characterization, we see that Kashimo is driven to destruction, drawn by the promise and delight of a good fight. At the height of getting beat down by Hakari's technique, we're given a glimpse into his distant history. Having laid waste to a foe and discontented by the lack of challenge, he's approached by Kenjaku!John Doe who he recognizes immediately and simply as Kenjaku. Lamenting about the fact that he picked the wrong fight, Kenjaku alludes to the fabled strength of Ryo Ishigori (which suggests Kenjaku hadn't met him) before ultimately redirecting Kashimo's bloodlust toward Sukuna. This explains how Kenjaku essentially curried Kashimo's buy in for the Culling Games and this is emphasized by Kashimo's one track mind while in game.

Okay? But what does this have to do with Miwa?

Relax, I'm getting there.. probably. Akutami has a penchant for coded names as seen with Fushiguro and Nobara Kugisaki. Hajime apparently means beginning so, for the sake of argument, let's say that's where this whole thing starts. SO, this is the first exchange we really see Kenjaku interacting with someone at the inception of this whole chain of events. If you're wondering why that's integral to my theory, let's peep this fight scene.

Why on earth did Kenjaku!Geto try to body silly little Miwa with Maximum: Uzumaki just then? Baby girl is holding onto that katana for dear life and, at every junction, it's taken from her. Maki clowned her (and broke her sword) and then it breaks again in the heat of this battle. With Mechamaru out of the picture, and if we're strictly focusing on close combat, I'd definitely stake my money on Todo over anyone else in the Kyoto school though we know he's largely unreliable as he's given to find his own fight elsewhere. I suppose that's why they put Miwa as their frontman during this botched attempt at catching Kenjaku!Geto off guard but.. what if this was actually their best foot forward because Miwa's a sleeping dragon?

For a cast of characters that boasts such bad ass womxn, Miwa's been downplayed and cut off at the neck at every opportunity she's been given to shine. What if the big reveal is that she's related to Kashimo.

You really went from A to WTF pretty quick, pls explain

Um, gladly, just know that this started as a crackpot theory and it's maybe held together by silly string but the more I write the more I'm like "ain't no way I'm wrong!".

One could say Kenjaku!Geto was priming his attack to unleash on Yuji, Choso and Panda as, at the time, they were the biggest threat before him. However, he caught wind of Kyoto School fairly quickly and had eyes on Miwa as she launched her attack wherein he broke her sword. Threat dealt with and yet he still saw her and said "get wrecked". WHY?

Here's what we know about Jujutsu Kaisen in universe. Nobara, shown as a child with dark or black hair, is shown as a teenager with orange dyed hair canonically. So if black is the figurative blueprint, why is Miwa's hair canonically light blue? We know that previously her mother would hide the color by dying it black for school which reiterates black as the natural canon and emphasizes how unnatural her light hair is. In a previous Akutami interview, we also know that Miwa was recruited into Jujutsu High because of her hair. I'm guessing it's the color over the choice in cut.

Here's what we know about Kashimo. Aside from being a bloodthirsty, power-seeking relic from 400 years ago, he has light hair in both iterations. We associate light hair with age of course but also power (Gojo-sensei where you at- oh). In the throw back, sure, he may be shown as elderly but what if the cough of blood into his hand is the product of a hard won fight as opposed to the luxury of dying of old age. Aesthetically, his younger vessel also having light hair has got to count for something. Additionally, intentionally exposing Kashimo and Kenjaku's shared history in this way better alludes to what would trigger Kenjaku!Geto to attack right then.

Do Kashimo and Miwa have the same power, no, but maybe it's because she hasn't yet realized the katana is ill-fitting as she is shown time and time again? She keeps getting bested and what if it's because she hasn't yet unlocked her birthright✨

The fact that we caught a glimpse of Miwa 10 or so chapters back suggests something’s coming and I can’t wait to see what.

It's very much giving "Boulevard of Broken Dreams".

TLDNR: In their face off, Kenjaku!Geto recognized Miwa as a threat because of her hair which is why he felt the need to godsmack her out of existence with Maximum: Uzumaki so perhaps she's distantly related to harbinger of destruction and menace Hajime Kashima.

a very long ramble-y post about how shinobu and shallow meet + how they become friends (NMH1 centric)

Brain has been twisting and turning when it comes to trying to figure out how Scarlet Jacobs (Shinobu) and Shallow meet, because they never actually face off each other in a rankings fight. But then I remembered in NMH1! Scarlet's design, that she's kinda customized the Santa Destroy High School uniform by adding extra leg warmers of sorts, lace arm-warmers and a scarf. She kind has this 'goth' look to her but that's probably aided by the colour of Santa Destroy High's uniform colours (which hey! is really cool! Purple is a really uncommon colour in school uniforms!)

Unfortunately there really isn't a 'base' Santa Destroy High School Uniform to compare her customized uniform with, but that alone screams to me that she's one of many teens who would probably (and regularly) visit Area 51 / Airport 51, a clothing store run by Mask de Uh in the first two games).

Since Shallow works there, I wouldn't be surprised if Scarlet went there after school hours or maybe she stops by while on her way home, or maybe after an assassin mission or ranking battle she goes there as a sort of reward type thing. IDK, she just kinda comes across as someone who is absolutely into the alternative/punk fashion scene and since assassin jobs actually have a big paycheck behind them, I do see her spending her winnings on cool graphic shirts, jackets + other clothing items and accessories.

I can see the two not really interacting that much, at least at first - especially when Shallow just begins working there and is trying to get the hang of this new type of job experience. Another thing kinda halting their potential interactions (at first) is that Shallow's schedule is mostly relegated to the mornings, so by the time Shinobu shows up to browse through the store - Shallow isn't behind the counter.

That said I like to think they properly interact with each other when Mask de Uh had to attend to something, leaving Shallow having to do the whole day's work shift, and on that day Scarlet comes in after school, still wearing her uniform, and like usual - browses for items and clothes and stuff. When she collects the items she wants to buy, Shallow realises that this girl is actually around the same age as her, if not just a year younger than her and they kinda have some small talk about school. Shallow kinda encourages Scarlet to take a break from study (Santa Destroy High's curriculum is.... a lot more than just studying), and to take time to discover herself. Scarlet at this point hasn't met Travis yet, so she's still kinda introverted but for a split second she drops her guard and takes into consideration the advice.

From there are times where they do cross each other's paths when their off work hours and after-school hours line up (which is very rare), and it usually starts out as small talk before actually kinda becoming a weird friendship. It's not super close, but they do interact with each other on a casual semi-regular basis.

That is until somehow the two take the same assassin mission on accident through K-Entertainment and basically the they have to work together and split their earnings. (Before anyone asks, yes Shallow is shocked that Scarlet is also an assassin, like she just thought she carried a katana around because she was practicing traditional samurai technique stuff as a recreational sport.)

There is a lot of tension and anxiety on this one mission, mostly about whether they can trust each other or not. Shallow respects Scarlet's capabilities and intelligence, and understands that in this situation that Scarlet is arguably much more capable and well-disciplined when it comes to pulling off assassin missions. Plus she is very aware of the skill difference the two have, Scarlet is very precise with her movements and attacks while Shallow kinda has a bit issue with leaving herself open to being attacked, so they realise they have a lot of catch up to do. They even verbalize this at the end of the mission and insists that Scarlet should take a larger cut of the earnings as opposed to evenly splitting it.

Shinobu is a bit surprised by this generosity and selflessness. I mean you really can't trust other assassins, but here seeing that selflessness is genuinely shocking. She is a bit apprehensive about this development in this potential friendship, as much like anyone she doesn't want to lose a potential friend/ally she can rely on in times of need. Additionally she knows that losing a friend in a situation like this would be VERY PETTY, so she kinda goes along and takes most of the earnings, but does persuade Shallow that next time if this happens, that they should split the earnings evenly. Scarlet doesn't feel guilty taking most of the earnings, rather she's saddened that Shallow downplays her abilities with time-space-portal manipulation, because to Scarlet, she thinks they're really cool and finds said powers to be a great support assist to her own fast attacks + it allows her to travel to different spaces in one area.

For a while I think this sort of friendship would be sort of strained for a bit but that's mostly due to miscommunication + Shallow isn't super sure how to tell the cool and calculated Scarlet that actually 'I NEVER intended to sign up for this, I thought it was a joke but turns out it was real. Now I'm scared for my life because I'm involved in a world that is VERY much not my crowd.' When Scarlet is told this, it kinda gives her an epiphany that Shallow is just trying to find faer's footing in a situation they never asked to be apart of, and she really does empathise with the pastel goth/pastel punk assassin. Shinobu was in a similar position when she started, but she does commend how Shallow despite starting out has been able to hold out on her own even with less combat experience.

The two kinda agree to keep their assassin lives separate from their friendship, in that they just want to not have to be pitted against each other for a rankings fight because they both know that Sylvia is... not above arranging such a fight for money. They don't stop their friendship, they still regularly communicate via text, phone calls etc. but try their best to not see each other in person at least, which means warning each other where they'll be so they can't be seen together because they know that other assassins will notice this and try to target both of them.

I should stress that this friendship does go back to normal, face-to- face/hang out interactions after Shinobu has her ranking fight with Travis, which immediately puts Shallow on edge because finding out that otaku who hangs out at the video store and visits Area 51, turned kind of neighbor (because your artist residency/workshop is a rented place out of the No More Heroes Hotel), turned best friend is capable of killing is really worrying. Fae's worried that yet another situation could arise where Sylvia could potentially get them to fight and kill each other, so for their safety she kinda gets a bit withdrawn from him a bit.

OBVIOUSLY THAT GETS CLEARED UP LATER, BUT LIKE. THIS POST IS ALREADY LONG ENOUGH AS IT IS, I might make like a second post explaining how Shallow and Travis (and Bishop) are friends. And obviously. and make TWO even more longer posts talking about the relationship with Henry, and also like. the backstory shallow has leading into NMH1.

Last night I dreamed that Gordon Freeman was trying to escape a Combine assault or something. To this end, he was attempting to bake these snacks using durians, or possibly dragonfruit; the dream wasn't entirely sure which it was, nor was dreaming-me apparently aware that there was any actual difference between them or how amenable they are to baking, and they were depicted as resembling lychees more than anything else. Doctor Coomer came in and helped him by getting the dragonfruit/durians/lychees out of some candies which had been supposedly made from them -- like, physical entire lychees inside a candy exterior. The snacks allowed Gordon to teleport away from the Combine, thus bringing him to the beginning of HLVRAI.

I think I briefly woke up, but either way the dream then became focused on this boarding school or college or something (I graduated from college in 2009). My "character" in the dream had some sort of wacky powers, she could teleport and stop time and use a katana, but also she was just this sort of disaster-goofball who in practice was just kind of pathetic? (So, basically my preferred kind of character to RP as.) At some point before the semester began, we got attacked by another student, who was obviously Tirsiak from Spooky's Jump Scare Mansion, except it was specifically a version whom a friend of mine used to RP as who had this whole "ancient god of the hunt" thing going on (I haven't actually played the game itself); even my character was like "RUN!" and furiously escaping from her.

The dream didn't establish how the chase was resolved, but we apparently all survived and made it to the principal to report the incident (the dream specifically used the word "principal"); the principal apparently asked if Tirsiak had done (some specific thing), and a blonde girl whom the dream hadn't depicted before was like "oh yes" and started obviously lying, adding extraneous details about bad stuff Tirsiak had done. My character pulled the girl aside and was like "Do you have the slightest idea how rare it is for that student to do something which is actually punishable!? Do not mess this up for us!"

The dream insisted that the lychee pastries were still relevant to this second part somehow.

since Jesse gets to keep the rainbow flying wu for some reason, if they got the choice, what wu do you think Keiko and Seiko would keep?

Oh my, it's hard to say! They're both fascinated with all of the shen gong wus. Anyway, the girls have their top 3 wus (because as always I can't make up my mind).

Seiko is very pragmatic when it comes to anything she does, so no wonder she would choose these wus that may help her in the battle.

Seiko’s favorite shen gong wus are:

1. Falcon’s Eye - The ability to see through solid objects is rather useful when you have to infiltrate the enemy’s premises! Seiko could take almost anyone with her katana but it’s always better to know how many enemies you have to defeat yet.

2. Mikado Arm – Seiko is a healthy lifestyle nerd and even though everyone in her circle considers bodybuilding as disgusting – She is of the opinion muscles shaped through exercise only add to one’s attractiveness. That’s why she sometimes gets upset about her own appearance because no matter how hard she trains, she can’t be a buff young lady. However, with Mikado Arm, not only her dream comes true – she also can punch with much more strength!

There would be also the 3rd option with sword-like wus but Seiko feels as if she stole from Raimundo the Sword of the Storms or the Sword of Nebula. So, she prefers not to use them at all.

Buuut if we take into consideration that one particular sword from the card game, I think it would be Seiko’s no1

3. Komori Sword – according to xiaolin wiki it lets its user hang upside down like a bat and fight well in darkness. Excuse me how cool is that? With it, She would be unstoppable! You go samurai girl!

As for Keiko, I reckon she couldn’t make up her mind in the first place because all of them are 1. pretty 2. incredible and could have more uses than in the showdowns. She’s torn between how good several wus would look as pieces of clothing/accessories and these wus that could help her prank people at school. But once her fascination fades away, she starts to think in more practical terms. As I mentioned in earlier posts Keiko has a tendency to feel left out due to the fact she has no martial skills or elemental powers. She’s the most regular girl compared to Kimiko and Seiko and Kimiko’s team. That’s why she wants to be useful in encounters with evil guys.

So, Keiko’s favorite shen gong wus might be:

1. Mantis Flip Coin – with this wu Keiko feels more confident. Apart from that, she’s satisfied she can pull off similar stunts as Seiko, such as spinning in the air before serving a punch or kick. She’s more of a fan of taekwondo kicking, tho!

2. Wushu Helmet – Keiko often freaks out when there are explosions. She’s not frightened by the explosion sounds! Only she’s worried that some flying object pieces might hurt her, so I think the wu that deflects attacks would make her feel safer.

3. The Culver Crystal – again wu from the trading card game. It enables its user to run away without being noticed. Keiko jokes it would come in handy when the teacher is about to reprimand her because of breaking the dress code again haha. Aaand Keiko admits sometimes she might use the wu on her family members when they order her to do something she doesn’t want to do haha

To wrap things up, ultimately, Keiko would take the culver crystal home. And as for Seiko, she would guard the Komori Sword as well as her own katana. Btw she has no problems snuggling it because she would hide it with other swords, which are part of the family's collection. So, no adult would notice the additional one, alright? And even if they did notice, Seiko can always tell them it was an accessory to her new cosplay!

The depth of this show was seriously mindblowing to me. For much of the series it was just a fun romp, with some pretty interesting twists and turns along the way. But as these characters develop, as the plot gets moving, it all comes together in the end. I have not seen a more concentrated concoction of doomed tragic yuri in my life.

Kiznaiver is an extremely underrated work of Studio Trigger’s and is definitely one of their bests. Not just for the animation, but for the impactful story as well. The characters just feel so real, and this show just makes you think about human connection and how much we might care for each other if we shared our pain. Although it can get a little confusing at the end, the sheer raw emotion is what makes up for everything. Every single one of the characters gets developed in ways that made me smile like an idiot.

Very good but severely underrated anime! Would recommend! :)

Trigger Warnings: Emotional Abuse, Fatphobia, Disordered Eating, Implied Sexual Assault (maybe).

The fact that Yuuta is formerly fat is constantly mocked throughout the series, which leaves a bit of a sour taste in my mouth as a fat person watching the show personally. Yuuta, to maintain his thinness, engages in disordered eating by simply eating a small cube of food every day. Said character is also the subject of an attempted sexual assault by a female character, but I don’t remember correctly if that actually happened or if I just got triggered by the way the scene was portrayed.
