They we're more like check in, little congratulations when they celebrated something on social media, asking how they were after a tough week. They weren't all that special, but Reader found them to be nice looking back now. It was more than Kyler gave her after all.

Hawk met her at a little café downtown during their lunch breaks. She was sipping a latte when he sat down and smiled at her. She was happy to see he still had his mohawk.

"Long time, no see," he joked.

She smiled. "Certainly feels that way."

They hadn't met up in a while, which was why it was a little awkward at first. At least for her.

Robby is the underdog - Part 1

Robby might lose "important" fights, but he's always been way more important in the story than the characters he's lost those fights to. Narratively, he's been set up as the underdog since his introduction, while the character many people like to believe is the underdog hasn't been an underdog for most of the show. The underdog is supposed to lose the important fights until the end. That's one thing that makes them the underdog. They have the potential, and we're shown it, but they just don't get there until the end of the story. At this point, a lot of fans are rooting for Robby to win the final tournament because we know he can (and he should).

The fights aren't everything though about the story, though many people like to reduce the story down to those. The fights themselves serve a purpose in the story, but they aren't the story.

There are so many aspects of the story that indicate that Robby is the underdog. Like, people really miss that Robby is Daniel in this story. I'm saying this from Miguel's perspective. In s1, after hearing Johnny's version of what happened with Daniel in kk1, Miguel started to view Robby as Daniel in Miguel's own story when he saw Robby having dinner with Sam and her family. Robby then showed up at the lake party with Sam the next night, and Miguel tried to fight Robby when he tried to defend Sam, like Johnny had tried to fight Daniel over Ali at the beach party in kk1. Robby also showed up at the avt and fought his way up to the championship match. In Miguel's story, Robby is the new kid that randomly showed up and tried to take his girl and his trophy, like Johnny had said about Daniel in Johnny's own story.

In s3, in the car scene with Daniel, many people laud Miguel for getting Daniel to see Johnny's side, but that was the point. Miguel didn't want to understand Daniel's side, because Daniel's side is Robby's side. (Miguel had attacked Robby that day in school in s2, acting on his unjustified anger and jealousy towards Robby, and Miguel has taken zero accountability for that and instead blamed Johnny and acted like Tory was at fault for his own choices and actions that day in school.) Miguel wanted Daniel to validate Miguel's side. Daniel had told Miguel that Johnny and Ali had been broken up for a few weeks when Daniel and Ali met and eventually started dating. In s2, Miguel and Sam had been broken up for a few weeks when Miguel saw Robby and Sam on a date at the roller rink. Miguel gaslit Sam about his own behavior in s1, using her date with Robby weeks later to tell her that he himself should be the one pissed off and blaming her for "making" him "think" he'd acted like a paranoid asshole in s1 (which he had). In s3, in the convo with Daniel, Miguel was explaining his own feelings about how he felt about Robby and Sam dating. Sam is Miguel's supposed first love, like Ali was Johnny's first love. Robby got in the way of Miguel and Sam in Miguel's pov, like Daniel got in the way of Johnny and Ali in Johnny's pov.

There are so many other things that indicate that Robby's the "Daniel" and the underdog in the story, like how Robby's had more story similarities to Daniel. Robby's trained in both Miyagi-Do and Cobra Kai. He got full season arcs that play significant roles in his character journey. Robby's also been so central to the characters and to the karate dojo war.

Robby has always been Miyagi-Do at heart, even when he was in Cobra Kai, while Miguel has always been Cobra Kai/Eagle Fang throughout the series. Interestingly, in this post by the official cobrakaiseries ig account, the original shot of Robby and Miguel in the show is mirrored here so that Robby is below Daniel and Miguel is below Johnny, with the caption "it's the same photo".

Sure, Johnny and Miguel may be advertised as the "Miyagi and Daniel" of this story, but this story is from the perspective of the bully. Johnny was Daniel's bully in kk1, and Miguel has been Robby's bully in this story. In s5, Miguel "won" the rivalry he started with Robby. Robby had no agency in Miguel starting this rivalry and repeatedly attacking him, and in s5, because of Johnny, Robby had no agency in Miguel ending the rivalry on his own terms, with Robby's side of the whole story being completely ignored. In the end, Robby had to give in to Miguel in order to appease Johnny.

Bullying is a dynamic in which there is a power imbalance. A parent-child relationship is a relationship in which there is a natural power imbalance. I've always thought of Robby as the underdog in the story because he has mainly been going up against Johnny's behavior towards him throughout the series (and his whole life). In s5, Robby fawned after Johnny in the Mexico trip to not be abandoned by him, and Robby fawned after Johnny and Miguel after the apartment fight and the baby news to be safe around them. s5 just reinforces my belief about Robby being the underdog mainly because he's going up against Johnny's behavior. By the end of s5, Robby hasn't only lost his "important" fights or lost in Miguel's rivalry with him, but Robby has lost against Johnny too.

"And if we're gonna be taken seriously, we need a name that commands respect. A name that illicits power and dominance. Cobras are strong. They may be the king of the jungle, but the world's more than just a jungle. And there's only one animal that can kill a snake."

"A mongoose?"

"A real animal, Bert."

In s3, Johnny and Bert have this exchange when Johnny was announcing the name of their new dojo in the park: Eagle Fang Karate!

Interestingly, when Miguel and Robby start their s1 final match, the soundtrack that plays is called The Cobra and the Mongoose.

The inclusion of the "mongoose", that is the "only one animal that can kill a snake", already existed in s1 via the soundtrack. In fact, mongooses are known to kill king cobras. Also, interesting, hawks and eagles are natural predators to mongooses that sneak up on them, swooping down, lifting them into the air, and crushing them before they can put up a fight.

In s1, "Hawk" played a crucial role in Miguel, the "Cobra", being able to win against Robby, the "Mongoose". If Robby with an injured arm was able to tie Miguel 2-2 in their match, imagine how well Robby would have done without his injury. Both Hawk and Miguel had done sneak attacks on Robby to injure him and re-injure him, respectively. Miguel has done multiple sneak attacks on Robby throughout the series, like in the school fight and at the waterpark. Although, Miguel was technically still a "Cobra" in the school fight, Miguel's mentality hasn't changed since, so he was technically an "Eagle" then too. The main (and probably only) difference between Cobra Kai and Eagle Fang is the "show mercy" teaching of Eagle Fang.

In s3, Johnny dismissed the existence of a mongoose, like how Johnny dismisses Robby's existence unless Johnny is forced to remember him, like on prom night in s4. In s5, Johnny dismissed Robby again when he got upset that Johnny had tricked him (that is, when Robby stood up for himself), so Robby started fawning after him to appease him.

In s5, while everyone viewed Silver, a "King Cobra", as the greatest threat, Robby's greatest threats were Johnny and Miguel, the two "Eagles" (though, mostly Johnny because he is the one in control of the whole dynamic between them.)

Robby stood firm against Silver for Tory, Kenny, and the Valley, but Robby backed down with Johnny and Miguel when it came to standing up for himself.

It's heavily implied and set up that Robby is the one amongst the kids who's meant to play the most important role in taking down Cobra Kai once and for all in the end. However, Johnny especially will continue to be a threat and obstacle to Robby being able to achieve that victory as long as Johnny stays an "Eagle" because his behavior has always been a detriment to Robby (of course it has). I have more thoughts on this and plan to do a part two to this post to focus more on Robby as an underdog wrt Johnny.

But of course, Cherry!!! Those headcanons were so fun to write :D It’s honestly one of my favorite headcanon/ask posts that I’ve done, I think. I love thinking about how Johnny would react to Hawk and Demetri dating XD And writing that paragraph about how I think Demetri and Eli met was honestly the most fun ride haha

But obviously he doesn’t wanna outright say anything, especially not at a school where kids will get bullied for literally ANYTHING and something like kids being gay for each other could legit put a target on both their backs if it got out. So he lets these boys figure shit out on their own time but is also like “...yeah, they’ll realize it eventually, I’m sure.” XD And you dun best believe he just went “ohhhhh my godddddd” when they fell out and developed a super intense rivalry because he’s like guys??? Do you NOT realize being that obsessed with fucking with each other...kinda means you’re obsessed WITH each other??? Even though you both have other friends now??? Doesn’t seem like normal best friend behavior :/ But of course our boy doesn’t want to interfere unless it gets really bad--and he’s got his own issues to deal with, anyhow. I imagine after the dojos join and Demetri and Eli start dating after a while, Miguel is just like “FUCKING FINALLY!!! Sam pay up, you owe me 20 bucks!!!” He’s so happy they finally dragged their heads out of their asses and realized they loved each other, because man, you can bet your ass Miguel knew they did from the get-go.

Sam I think I’ve touched on a fair bit in my other posts so I won’t get into a whole big long thing, but she’s...certainly leery of them dating at first, mainly because she remembers Demetri’s issues with Eli are what pushed him to join Miyagi-Do in the first place, and she witnessed him breaking Dem’s arm so she’s pretty...not crazy about Eli XD But Miguel and Demetri both vouch for Eli a LOT, and reassure Sam over and over that he’s a good guy at heart and just let Kreese get in his head and fell victim to his brainwashing for a while. Sam comes around to the idea after a while, and she can see how happy he makes Demetri and ultimately trusts Demetri to be smart enough to not date someone who’s going to treat him badly. Then eventually she and Eli bond over what a fuck Kyler is (he bullied Sam too, don’t forget!!! And they DATED, so the thing he did with the blowjob rumors was a HUGE violation of the pretty intimate trust you have with a partner) and after that she is VERY on board with him and Demetri dating XD

Chris is...Not A Fan, to put it lightly XD Like he saw firsthand how much of a fuck Hawk was to him and Mitch when they first joined Cobra Kai and how he basically hazed them both for funsies because he let the tournament win get to his head. And hell, HE was one of the ones who got sicced on Demetri in the mall and tried to get Hawk to back down, and SAW that he wouldn’t. And when Hawk was about to go after Demetri at Moon’s party, Chris was the first Miyagi-Do to step in and protect him. And, of course, he saw Hawk break Demetri’s arm, too. So he’s no stranger to the antagonism Hawk has always had for Demetri in particular, and doesn’t trust that it’s completely gone. However, Chris is a pretty down-to-earth and reasonable dude, so with a LOT of vouching from Demetri, I can see him coming around eventually. Also if he was willing to give Mitch a second chance, ain’t no reason he can’t do the same for Hawk. And Mitch would probably vouch for Hawk too, after he and Chris became friends again--after all, Mitch DID end up becoming pretty good friends with Hawk after all the hazing stuff. So ultimately Chris ends up being at least civil with Hawk, but he sometimes glares at him when no one’s looking like “I’ve got my eye on you, you’d better not hurt my bro or there’s gonna be hell to pay”

Mitch is fairly indifferent, I think, although he DOES find the irony of Hawk now being head-over-heels smitten with the same dude he sent him to beat up in the mall and the same dude who told everyone Hawk wets the bed to be IMMENSELY hilarious. He loves to tease Hawk about it, like “Man, what would you have done a year ago if you’d known you’re now regularly making out with that shrimpy little nerd???” and Hawk is like “oh my god shut UP” but then he turns away and smirks because the joke is on Mitch--he TOTALLY still liked Demetri through All That Mess Last Year, he just...had a very poor way of processing it XD

I imagine Bert kinda looks up to Hawk as an older brother figure (there’s a snippet I’ve seen some gifs of of Hawk teaching him how to block and it’s actually really cute--huge Big Bro/Little Bro Energy) and probably also admires Demetri quite a bit for trying to protect him and Nate during the Christmas party fight, so he’s definitely on board!!! His two honorary big brothers dating--he’s thrilled!!! Nate not so much, since you dun best believe he still remembers Hawk and his goons “kicking the fucking shit out of him” XD Nonetheless, Nate probably also has a soft spot for Demetri for trying to protect him, so with lots of vouching from Demetri (and Bert too, once he and Nate are friends again), he eventually comes around to the idea of Hawk and Demetri dating.

ON TO THE SECOND QUESTION, FINALLY!

I actually think Aisha is the one who comes up with their ship name!!! XD Allow me to elaborate--so at some point Aisha comes back (because fuck it, I miss her), either to join the new merged dojo or just to visit, because ain’t no one telling me she didn’t keep in touch with at least SAM and visit occasionally if she was still in the city or general area. So she walks into the dojo to go see Sam and her other friends and start catching up with everyone, and--oh, Sam and Miguel are in the same weird, combined karate dojo now that isn’t Miyagi-Do OR Cobra Kai??? Super wack, but okay. Then she sees Demetri and Hawk holding hands and her eyes get really wide and she’s like “Wait, you two are DATING now??? That’s...kind of gross :/”

And Demetri and Hawk just freeze up for a hot sec because is Aisha of all people about to be judgmental??? But then she immediately follows up with “Well, aren’t you the binary brothers? I don’t know if I can get behind incest, guys.” And Hawk just breaks out snickering and is like “Shit, man, she’s right. We should probably update that.” And Demetri’s like “NO WAIT I GOT THIS” and then he just goes “dEmEtRi aNd eLi, BiNaRy BoYfRiEnDs” complete with the super cringey robot arm and Eli is like “Oh my GOD I am GOING to kill you” as the entire dojo proceeds to Lose Their Shit.

Also you dun best believe that literally every picture Aisha takes with Hawk and Demetri after they all start hanging out again (because I WANT THEM TO, FIGHT ME) is captioned things like “Chillin’ with the binary boyfriends!” “Eating tacos with the binary boyfriends!” “Doing karate with the binary boyfriends!” and before too long she refuses to refer to Demetri and Eli as anything else XD

Also yes I know Moon was also there during the Binary Brothers scene but she most likely wouldn’t be cheeky and tease them about it later. Aisha absolutely WOULD.

I like barrel racing. I don’t own a horse, so I can’t do it myself, but I think it’s fun to watch, and I think it would be fun to do. Can you do some Cobra Kai headcanons where Miguel, Hawk, Demetri, and Robby are dating and Sam, Moon, and Tory are friends with a girl who owns a horse and barrel races? Moon’s a sweetheart and doesn’t get enough love.

the cobra kai characters dating/befriending a barrel racer

miguel -

after karate, miguel would be at your side, being supportive and showing interest in your own hobby

sometimes you would tease each other back at forth about your talents. (e.g miguel would try karate moves on you to impress you while playfully teasing your own 'skill' in karate, and vice versa when you would beat him in anything horse related.)

you would show miguel your horse stable and let him bond with your horse, which he got along perfectly with.

hawk/eli -

hawk would brag about you nonstop, giving you endless praise 24/7 (maybe not 24/7, but you get the idea)

he'd bring his friends to attend barrel races and events, cheering you on. he was probably the most enthusiatic one there.

when you would win, he'd post about it on instagram, along with a cheesy caption or paragraph.

robby -

just like the other two, robby would be supportive as hell. the relationship would never be one sided. while you show interest in karate, robby would also try out barrel racing with you.

robby's a fast learner, so it wouldnt be long before he's at least riding by your side. of course, he wouldnt be at your level, considering you were an expert barrel racer. but he'd be glad just to take part in your hobby/sport.

you would take leisurely rides together, talking about life, clearing your mind, venting, and fooling around. afterwards, robby would go back home with a smile on his face. everybody notices it, too, and at any given chance, robby would go on and on about you and your talents.

demetri -

because demetri tended to be very nervous, you took the leading role in the relationship. while demetri would be interested in your sport, he wouldnt dare risk trying it out. he didnt want to make himself out to be a fool in front of you.

at the very least, you got him to let you teach him how to safely ride a horse. of course demetri was hesitant, considering he'd have to ride a dirty, stinky horse. but you showed him how fun it was, and in the end, he ended up enjoying it, even when he somehow ended up getting dirty. he also made friends with his own horse (of course he had to give it a name referencing to his favorite movies and comics). overall he was happy he found a new hobby to participate in with his girlfriend.

as you would ride together, he would improve in his riding skills and become more confident. of course you were there to help and cheer him on all the way. to make it fair, demetri would also show you some karate tricks he learned from daniel. he tended to fool around while doing so, earning a laugh from you.

the girls -

like the others, the girls would try out horse riding at the very least. they were very eager to learn when they watched you race for the first time.

because sam already had an athletic background, she was the quickest to learn how to ride and control a horse. you'd lead her the whole way until she was ready to do tricks by herself. of course she wasn't as good as you, and wasn't even a barrel racer, but that didnt mean she wouldnt cheer you on at barrel racing competitions. when you would win, you'd treat her and your shared friend group out to eat with the well earned money.

now because moon didn't exactly have an athletic background, she was a little confused at first. she would show up in a whole cowboy fit, of course earning laughter from you. when she got the hang of it, you would ride out together on hiking trails on such. being a sort of 'hippie', moon loved nature. and of course, animals. she would sing to your horses, making up silly songs for them on the spot with her guitar. because of her kind nature, she was the most eager and supportive at barrel racing events. she would celebrate with you afterwards and shower you with compliments.

tory would be the most competitive out of them all. not jealous, but when you'd train, she'd try to out do you. of course you'd put her in her place, since she was a novice and all, but it was all just a friendly banter in the end. during barrel racing events, she'd get super hyped, screaming your name, calling you a "bad bitch" and so, just hyping you up.

ahh i feel like i didnt write enough stuff about barrel racing. i really dont know anything about it so im sorry! i also wrote this in second person pov, hope that wasnt a problem?
