WHG Post Games Nesri Part 2
Tagging: @ratracechronicler (also thanks for Rebecca!), @maple-writes (also thanks for Cirrus!), @nightskywriter, @rhikasa, @pen-of-roses, @aeslin-writes, @the-moving-finger-writes, @knmartinshouldbewriting, @makeitmonstrous, and @timefirewrites!
I pounded my fist on Zenith’s door. He had been in there for two days now. It was time to make him leave. Cirrus and Rebecca had decided to join me.
When there was no answer, I growled and knocked harder. “Hey, you loser! Stop hiding in there and tell us what’s going on! Why did you sneak out, and what happened that made you ask Asher to knock you unconscious? What kind of reckless shit did you get into?”
There was a groan on the other side of the door, but that was it. I scoffed, crystallized water from the drink I was holding, and cut through the hinges with it (the crystals are stronger than diamonds). I kicked the door open and walked in with my hands on my hips.
Zenith had been lying down, but he scrambled up when we walked in. He glared at me. “Leave me alone.”
I grabbed him by his shirt collar. Why was his seclusion making me so pissed off? “Like hell I will! Tell us what’s going on!”
Rebecca spoke up. “Yeah! We’re not getting any younger here, and Lynn and Lynne aren’t getting any freer!”
He bowed his head so that his eyes were shadowed. “I went to go see my old team.”
Before he could continue, I tightened my grip on his collar and shook him. “You fucking idiot! Did you sell us out to them? Do they know where we are?”
Rebecca looked around as if she could see hidden cameras, and Cirrus crossed his arms. “How do you know they didn’t follow you home? Clearly they aren’t on our side.”
Zenith took a deep breath. “I was able to convince them to trust me, at least a little. And I would have been able to sense them following me. I’m not that incompetent. I sought them out because they had already sent me a message saying that they were looking for me. If I hadn’t met with them, I know they would have found us. So, I took the chance.”
I still didn’t let go of his collar. How many supposed friends who had the magic had promised me that they wouldn’t hunt me after I ran away? And they did anyway. “Forgive me for not having as much faith in these Capitol idiots as you do. I guess I can trust that you would have been able to sense anyone following you, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still looking for us, no matter what they told you. That was such a stupid fucking move.”
Cirrus nodded. “And what if it hadn’t worked? If Asher hadn’t managed to knock you out? If something went wrong?” His voice dropped low. “Don’t think for a second I wouldn’t have killed you if it came down to it.” Despite the anger I felt, a rush of excitement passed through me. I had to get him to spar with me. Rebecca’s eyes widened, and she tried to stay out of Cirrus’s line of sight.
Zenith looked him dead in the eyes. “I would have wanted you to.”
I let go of his collar. He had done something stupid, but yelling at him wouldn’t really help. Even if it did make me feel better. Instead, I grabbed his arm and started pulling him out of his bed. “You’re going to make it up to us by watching the special program the Capitol is hosting. You even have to make the popcorn for us.” I tried to make my voice sound happy, but I couldn’t keep out the anger that I still felt. Hopefully, no one noticed.
“And keep your senses sharp for those possible, y’know, spies,” Rebecca added.
Zenith didn’t say anything as I monitored him while he made the popcorn and drinks for us. Hey, since we had someone to bully, we might as well make the most of it. So, we just settled down to watch the program, and when Zenith tried to retreat, I glared at him until he sat down next to me. I did text Shine to keep an eye out for any hidden devices that could spie on us.
The TV flickered, and a close-up of Caesar Flickerman’s ugly face showed up, but I didn’t even have it in me to throw popcorn at him. My blood was still boiling.
He laughed at us. “We have a special program for our dear watchers tonight! A special division of the Capitol is pleased to announce a new recruit to their ranks. She even received the prestigious magic as well!” He gestured to the side, but I didn’t even react as Lynne walked on stage. I was frozen. No. No, no, no. This couldn’t be happening. The Shades. They had gotten to her. It was obvious in how she walked, even with a radiant smile on her face. She was still in pain from the “ceremony”.
I barely heard Rebecca say anything. “Magic? Isn’t that maybe a good thing? Or…” Zenith glanced back and shook his head. But I couldn’t tear my eyes away.
Caesar clapped Lynne on the back, and she almost fell. Another sign that she was in pain. She should be fine in high heels. “How has your time with the Shades been? I bet the magic is amazing!”
She laughed, and it was clear that it wasn’t genuine. “I have not been able to practice with the magic much yet, so I cannot say for sure. But I did meet someone because of the Shades, and for that I am happy. The victor, Hugo Atwater, was a lot of help. I want to thank him, personally, for his help.” She winced, and her hand went up to where the shocker was.
Caesar just laughed and gestured for something else off-stage. Churi (with his usual long, silver hair and red eyes) walked up as two Avoxes lugged a basin of water toward Lynne. I clenched my fists so tightly that my knuckles turned white as I stared at Churi.
Caesar grinned at him. “Could you give us some more specifics on this brilliant magic while we get set up?”
Churi nodded, smirking. “This magic is difficult to transfer and can cause severe pain during transfer, which is why we usually use children for the transfer, since their bodies are normally more willing to take the magic. It is a testament to the strength of Ms. Marne that she was able to withstand the transfer. The magic allows the user to create crystals that are harder than diamonds out of any liquid that is within a certain radius from the user. Activating the magic allows the user to glow and float because of the outrush of power. It is a strong power, as you will see from this demonstration.” He gestured over at Lynne as the Avoxes set the basin down in front of her.
“Wait, that’s what you did—with the hinges,” Rebecca said. And then a delayed, “Are you okay?”
Zenith was eyeing me, but I couldn’t tear my eyes away from the screen, couldn’t even respond. Churi snapped his fingers, and Lynne flinched. She raised her hands, and she started to float, while multi-colored light danced on her skin like fire. She gritted her teeth and waved her hand, and some of the water in front of her jumped up and transformed into sharp pieces of crystal. Tears started streaming down her cheeks as she waved her hand again, and the shards slammed into the Avoxes’s arms, and they fell down, their expressions twisted in pain. She deactivated the magic as the audience applauded, and the camera turned back to Caesar and Churi. In the background, Lynne was running to the Avoxes, crying even more, but then she collapsed with a whine and curled up on herself.
Churi looked fake concerned. “Unfortunately, the magic can be overwhelming, but I think that was a good demonstration, don’t you, Caesar?”
He laughed. “Simply magical.” He grinned at his own joke as the audience actually laughed. “Ms. Marne should be applauded for her bravery in volunteering to receive this magic. That’s all for—” I shut the TV off, cutting Caesar and his stupid laugh off.
“She should’ve just hit Caesar with it if they were gonna make her do it anyway!” Rebecca.
Cirrus was hissing under his breath.
And I just sat there, staring at the blank screen. How? How could they? I closed my eyes, but screams and fear and pain and bright rooms that they swore weren’t for torture but totally were and dark alleyways and rain and lightning and panic and…
I opened my eyes, breathing heavily. I…I had failed. They had hurt her. I clenched my drink too tight, and power rushed through me, and all of the drinks in the room crystallized. Zenith put a hand on my shoulder, but I just shook it off.
“Those bastards hurt her.” A whisper first but then louder. “Those bastards hurt her, and we let them do it!” I was shaking. “I…I’ve been so scared to go back to them, but they took her, and they’ll probably take us, and there’s nothing we can do about it.” People sneaking up and pointing guns at me, just saying that they wanted to keep me safe from myself. “There’s no running from them. No escape. They always told me that, and like an idiot I didn’t believe them. They’ll never let up. They’ll—”
“Nesri!” Zenith. I gasped and shut up.
Tears fell down my cheeks and a sob wracked my body. “I can’t go back to them! I won’t! And they have Lynne, and I can’t imagine what they’re putting her through!” Churi smirking at me as I screamed. “I…I can’t… Not again.” Someone put a strong arm around me, and I sobbed into their shirt. It was too much. And I condemned Lynne to the same fate.
When I opened my eyes, Cirrus was handing me a glass of milk. “They’re not going to get to you, you’re safe here, okay? If they want to get to you, they have to go through all of us.”
I sniffled and took the offered glass. “I need to spar you now so I can let off steam.”
He scoffed. “What you need is to sit down. You can’t kick my ass if you’re crying.”
I sighed. “Later then.” I glanced over at Zenith. He looked baffled about what happened. He must not have been used to dealing with something like this. “You’re my witness that he agreed.”
He grumbled but stayed close as I took deep breaths and relaxed. Rebecca spoke up. “Hey…those people…I’m sorry about what they did to you. And Lynne. But we’re gonna set this right. It’s gonna get better, okay?”
“Thanks.” I sighed and closed my eyes. I was safe, and I was around friends. Everything was fine. We just had to make sure we stole the Lynn(e)s from the bastards now.
*
I sat on my bed, my head in my hands. If I tried to fall asleep, I would just have nightmares. Whenever I closed my eyes, I could still see flashes of my time with the Shades.
There was a soft knock on the door, and when I didn’t say anything, the door opened to reveal Triel. She didn’t have her hat or coat on, and she walked lightly over to me. She had a blanket and two mugs of tea balanced in her hands. She handed me one of the mugs, wrapped the blanket around me, and snuggled under it with me.
She leaned against my shoulder. “I heard what happened this evening. I’m sorry.”
I took a sip. “I should have known that they would take her. What if they can control her better than they can control me? What if she is not able to fight their control? Will we have to keep her locked up the whole time?”
She kissed me on the forehead. “We’ll figure something out, love. But I wasn’t talking about her. I was talking about you. I’d prefer to not see you stay awake all night.”
I took a deep breath. “I’m fine. I just can’t get them out of my head…”
Triel hugged me tightly and kissed my cheek, lingering and snuggling her nose into my cheek. I closed my eyes and leaned into her embrace, but then Churi’s face flashed in my mind, and I tensed and sat up again.
Triel kept hugging me. “What are the laws the Capitol, in all its wisdom, came up with after the Shades pushed them to?”
I frowned over at her. “Are you trying to distract me?”
She smirked at me. “Could it work?”
I shrugged. “The Capitol made laws to control the people who got the magic. They can’t use their magic except when they are contracted by a citizen or at the command of the Shades. They actually can’t do anything except when a citizen contracts them to do something. And they can’t have children.”
Triel nodded. “Well, I thought I could distract you with my backstory.” I frowned. She had never wanted to tell anyone, even me, about her past. “The Shades are concerned that people born of the ones with magic will inherit the magic. My mother has the magic. The person she loved didn’t have the magic, but they were able to meet in secret, and she hid that she was pregnant. But when she had me, the Peacekeepers came and took me away from her. They put me in a small boat and put me out to see as an infant. I guess they couldn’t bring themselves to kill an infant, for some reason. I was supposed to die, but Nora, Captain Skeates, found me and took me in. All I have from my mother is this necklace.” She pulled out the necklace that she always wore from under her shirt. It had a tiny crystal in the shape of a heart attached to it.
I stared at the necklace. It was a very intricate use of the magic. “I’m so sorry. I never knew.”
She scoffed. “I wasn’t telling you this because I wanted you to be sorry for me. I knew you had been curious about my past for a while.” She winked. “And they were right. I do have a diluted form of the magic. I have a smaller radius that I can use liquid to make crystals, and I can’t float, but I can glow. I haven’t showed off my magic since I don’t want the Shades to know about me. But I have enjoyed experimenting with it in secret.”
I grimaced, flashing back to the Shades. Triel snuggled closer to me, and her movement snapped me out of it. I took a shaky breath. “The Shades have hurt so many people. And they continue to hurt more people. And they give us this cursed magic.”
Triel set down her mug and held my face in her hands. “This magic can be passed down. That means they can’t control it. And we’re out of their control too. We have defied them, and we won’t let them take us back. They’re not as powerful as they seem.”
I nodded, and she let go of my face and leaned against me again. I closed my eyes, but instead of seeing the Shades, I just focused on Triel. We sat together until I fell asleep.

An Interesting Turn of Events [5/?]
Pairing: Jotaro Kujo x Noriaki Kakyoin Summary: There were three things Jotaro Joestar was completely certain about: One. 80’s rock was the be-all end-all of music. Two. The movie Jaws wrongly portrayed sharks as evil and blood-thirsty, and he did not stand for it at all. Three. Being an alpha while also part of the Joestar-lineage was an absolute curse. Warnings: Omegaverse with omega!Kakyoin and alpha!Jotaro References to underaged drinking
A/N: It’s party time - part 2!
Read on Ao3 here: LINK
Jotaro was unsure of how long they stayed in that position, with Kakyoin sleeping soundlessly against him. They had been momentarily interrupted by Avdol as he came out to get Polnareff back inside. Jotaro had just shushed him when Avdol’s face lit up as he saw Kakyoin sleeping against him. Avdol had given him a look that clearly stated that they would be discussing this later, before heading back inside with a barely awake Polnareff.
It by now had to be well after midnight, the lighting from the windows being their only source of light apart from the starry night sky. The air had gotten significantly cooler since they had gone outside. Maybe that was a sign that it was about time for them to get back inside. Kakyoin should hopefully have had enough time to sleep off the worst of his previous drunken state.
He gently shook his shoulder, and Kakyoin stirred slightly.
“Huh?” his voice was groggy with sleep as he sat up, eyes still half-lidded as he looked at Jotaro in slight confusion.
“We should get inside. It’s starting to get cold” Jotaro said and stood up, offering a hand down towards him. Kakyoin nodded absently and took a hold of his outstretched hand, and Jotaro pulled him up into a standing position. Jotaro helped him back inside and Kakyoin immediately collapsed on the nearest couch.
“Imma just sleep a little bit more” he mumbled as he curled up and rested his head against the armrest. Jotaro let out a small huff of laughter as he picked up one of the spare blankets Jonathan insisted they keep in every room, and draping it over Kakyoin. Kakyoin let out a low murmur in response, burying his face in the blanket. He was fast asleep before Jotaro even had enough time to acknowledge it, his breathing once again getting heavier as he nuzzled against the blanket.
Jotaro realized that he might need help. And he needed it now.
He decided that the most logical solution was to go and look for Jonathan. He always knew what kind of advice to give, in almost every situation imaginable. Jotaro soon found him nearby, surrounded by a group of chatting people. He was currently deep in a conversation with Speedwagon, who was considered to be the coolest omega around and who was always the life of the party. Jotaro stood awkwardly to the side as he waited for his chance to insert himself into the conversation. But before he had the chance to, Jonathan had already noticed him and waved him over with a smile.
“Jotaro, come listen to what Speedwagon was up to last week!” Jonathan called as he stepped aside, so that Jotaro could slip in closer.
Jotaro was only half listening as Speedwagon told them the story of how he had allegedly gotten into a fight in an alley and almost sliced a man’s hand off with his hat. Another classic Speedwagon story.
Jonathan seemed to notice that his mind was elsewhere, as he gave him a questioning look.
“You alright, Jotaro?” he asked, a slight tint of worry evident in his voice.
“Yeah, I just... Um, Could I talk to you alone for a moment?” Jonathan nodded and excused himself quickly, before gesturing for Jotaro to follow him out into the empty hallway.
“So what’s up?” Jonathan asked, patiently waiting for him to answer. Jotaro fidgeted restlessly for a few moments while he gathered his thoughts.
“How did you know that you wanted to be with Erina. Romantically, I mean”
Jonathan looked surprised for a moment, but he quickly hid it behind a gentle smile.
“I realised almost instantly” Jonathan’s eyes looked distant as if he was re-living the memory. “I felt this immediate connection to her, but at first I thought It was just normal feelings of friendship. But after a few weeks it suddenly hit me that I would be completely heartbroken if she were to end up with anyone else but me. And then I just realized it all seemed so right, that she was what I needed. I guess” Jonathan let out a slight huff of laughter and turned his gaze back towards Jotaro.
“Why, is anything on your mind?” Jotaro could see that Jonathan was intrigued by his question, even though he tried his best to hide it.
“it’s nothing” Jotaro just shrugged the question off as he stared at his own feet. “I was just… curious”
“Alright then” Jonathan let out a slight laugh, before resting a hand on top of Jotaro’s shoulder, squeezing it tightly. “But you know that you can tell me anything, right?” Jotaro just nodded in response. He didn’t have enough time to think of a proper response before the doorbell went of three times consecutively.
Jonathan let out a deep sigh. “It’s probably just someone here to complain about the noise. I’ll get it, you get back to the party” Jotaro nodded and hurried back to the living room.
What Jonathan had told him was such an utterly unrealistic and cheesy love story. Jotaro wasn’t like that. How could someone claim that they just knew when it was right? That didn’t make any sense. Jotaro sighed loudly and worked both of his hands through his hair, messing it up even further.
Asking Jonathan for advice might have been a mistake. Because Jotaro knew that he didn’t harbour any romantic feeling towards anyone in particular. He hadn’t felt that way towards anyone before, so why would he now? He was probably only smitten by Kakyoin since he was one of the first omegas around his own age that he had to spend a lot of time around. Yeah, that would explain everything.
“Hey!”
Jotaro turned around at the sound of the familiar voice, and found himself standing face to face with a grinning Kakyoin, who had the blanket still wrapped tightly around himself.
“Hey, I thought you were sleeping” Jotaro was slightly startled by his sudden appearance, especially since he was just thinking about him.
“It’s pretty hard to sleep when there seems to be the storytelling of the century going on in the same room. Did you know that Speedwagon once fought a vampire?” Kakyoin laughed.
“I don’t think he did very much of the actual fighting, and I don’t think it was an actual vampire” Jotaro said, turning his attention towards Speedwagon, who was indeed telling another of his heavily exaggerated stories to a group of intrigued drunk people. That man could talk for hours on end if nobody stopped him.
“Don’t say that, vampires could be real for all we know!” Kakyoin said with a smile as he also turned towards Speedwagon, staggering slightly at the sudden movement.
“You alright?” Jotaro asked.
Kakyoin nodded. “I’m getting better. Everything just gets a bit spinny if I move too fast” he demonstrated by shaking his head vigorously, and almost falling over in the process. He only let out a slight giggle as he grabbed onto Jotaro’s shoulder to stabilize himself.
“Where are your usual admirers by the way? Nobody has been clinging to you all night. Except for me right now of course” Kakyoin let out a loud snort at his own joke.
“They are all permanently banned from ever coming to any of our parties” Jotaro said, as he tried to ignore the way Kakyoin’s fingers clinged onto his shirt.
“Really? How many people are banned?” Kakyoin asked.
“A couple dozen or so. But there might be one more if you’re not careful” Jotaro said with a slight smirk on his lips. Kakyoin let out an over exaggerated gasp as he clutched at his heart with his free hand.
“I can’t believe that you would do something like that, Jojo , And to your biology partner nonetheless” Kakyoin broke into another set of giggles as he pulled himself even closer to Jotaro, resting most of his weight on him, moving to hug one of Jotaro’s arms tightly against his chest.
“You should probably go sit down again” he said as he felt how unstable Kakyoin still was in his footing. Kakyoin hummed in agreement.
“You have a really soft couch, so I’m not gonna complain. But I’m thirsty though” he smacked his lips loudly as if to make a point. “Get me some more cherry-stuff?” he gave Jotaro his best attempt at puppy eyes. Jotaro had a feeling that they would have been very successful if he hadn’t averted his gaze in time.
“I’ll get you some water, as long as you sit down” Jotaro responded. Kakyoin frowned, but still nodded.
“I really liked the cherry-stuff though” Kakyoin muttered under his breath, but he waved Jotaro off none the less before once again collapsing onto the couch, his wavy hair strand the only thing sticking out from underneath the blanket.
Jotaro quickly made his way over to the kitchen, only to almost trip over Joseph who had apparently decided to take a nap in the middle of the floor.
“What the fuck?” Jotaro swore loudly as Joseph woke up with a groan.
“Sup Joot, how’s it hanging” he mumbled as he attempted to sit up straight.
“You’re drunk. go to bed already” Jotaro said with a deep frown. Joseph stuck his tongue out at him, before collapsing into a lying position again.
“I’ve got him!” Caesar suddenly emerged, rolling his sleeves up to his elbows. “I can’t guarantee you that he won’t accidentally fall down the stairs though”
“That’s fine” Jotaro replied, receiving a wide grin from Caesar.
“That’s so mean, Jotaro” Joseph mumbled as Caesar hoisted him up, looping one of Joseph’s arms around his own shoulders. “What if I end up dying?” He looked close to crying. “Jotaro please come to my funeral, you will do that for me, right?”
Jotaro quickly scooped up his water and hurried away from Joseph’s whining. He did not have the energy to deal with him and his drunken crying right now.
as he stepped back into the living room Jotaro froze mid step. The universe was apparently dead set on the fact that this night was destined to be a bad one, since none other that Dio Brando was currently standing in the room. He was currently chatting with two girls, smiling brightly at them while they practically swooned over him.
Dio seemed to have spotted him as well, as he excused himself from the girls before walking over.
“What are you doing here?” Jotaro asked as soon as Dio was close enough to hear him.
“I could hardly sleep thanks to all the noise” Dio shrugged as he leaned against the doorway, arms crossed over his chest. “So I decided to join in on the fun instead”
“You’re not welcome here”
Dio just scoffed slightly. “Actually, Jonathan let me in as long as I don’t start anything , so technically I am actually welcome here”
“Not for long you won’t be” Jotaro took a step closer to the other Alpha. Dio had a way of always pushing his button.
“Well you’re as much fun to talk to as usual, aren’t you Jotaro” Dio sighed as he turned his attention back towards the two girls, who were still waiting for his return. “If you don’t mind, I’ll be getting back to those beautiful ladies then”
“Or you should just leave” was Jotaro’s only response. He was momentarily relieved that Joseph wasn’t nearby, as the two of them meeting would most likely have ended in catastrophe.
“Oh don’t be like that now, there are plenty of beautiful omega’s for the both of us to enjoy” Dio let out a cold laugh as he patted Jotaro roughly on the shoulder, before leaning in slightly closer.
“Besides, don’t you have someone to get back to yourself?” Dio asked with a smirk as he threw a look towards where Kakyoin was.
Jotaro frowned. He didn’t like the suggestiveness in Dio’s voice or the expression on his face one bit. But before he had the chance to say anything back Dio had walked back to the girls he had previously been flirting with, as if nothing had happened.
Jotaro hurried back to where Kakyoin was sitting, humming along to the ongoing karaoke battle that had apparently began while Jotaro was gone.
Why was he so annoyed at Dio? He always did bothersome stuff like this, but for some reason Jotaro could feel the anger towards the other man boiling inside him. It was more intense that any negative feelings he had harboured towards Dio before. And he also couldn’t shake the feeling of unease that had come over him.
Jotaro was brought back to reality by Kakyoin snapping his fingers in front of his eyes.
“Jo-ta-ro, earth is attempting to contact you” he smiled at Jotaro’s slightly startled expression.
“Sorry” Jotaro mumbled and handed him the glass, which Kakyoin downed in one go.
“Something happen?” Kakyoin asked after a moment of silence. “You seem… off”
“Not really. It’s just our asshole neighbour intruding and being generally creepy” he shot off a glare towards where Dio was standing. Kakyoin leaned closer to him briefly to see where he was looking.
“ Dio is your neighbour?” Kakyoin asked. Jotaro turned back to look at him.
“You know him?” he asked wearily.
Kakyoin shrugged. “We have a class together, he is pretty… intense. To say the least” Kakyoin’s face scrunched up in clear distaste.
Jotaro’s heartbeat sped up. “Did he do anything to you?” he asked a bit too quickly.
“Nothing that I couldn’t handle” Kakyoin said and nodded towards Dio. “It seems like he does that kind of shit a lot”
Jotaro turned to watch as Dio towered over one of the omegas who was giggling loudly while practically molding herself up against his body.
“I don’t see the appeal, to be honest” Kakyoin said with his chin resting in his palms, while he eyed the couple critically. “Can’t she see that his eyes are completely cold and that he just seems dead inside?”
“I don’t think most of them care” Jotaro responded. “As long as you’re tall and broad it doesn’t really matter how much of an asshole you are towards them”
Kakyoin let out a snort. “Well, you of all people should know, shouldn’t you”
Jotaro nodded in agreement. But something from their conversation still didn’t sit right with him.
“So, what does ‘Nothing I couldn’t handle’ mean anyway?” Jotaro asked, focusing his gaze on Kakyoin.
“That, pretty much” Kakyoin said and nodded towards the still looming Dio. “Except I wasn’t as…. into it as she seems to be” He let out a noise of disgust as Dio and the girl now stood liplocked, with her clinging onto him for dear life.
“I hate couples and their excessive amounts of PDA” Kakyoin sighed. Jotaro hummed in agreement. He could almost feel the thick stench of want coming from the other side of the room.
“Oh, and he pretty much followed me home as well, which was insanely creepy” Kakyoin added. Jotaro’s previous feeling of unease immediately returned.
“He did what now?”
“I know! Creep of the year if you ask me. I just told him off and haven’t seen him since” Kakyoin seemed unbothered as he went back to humming along to the people singing off-key karaoke at the top of their lungs.
Jotaro on the other hand could not shake off his uneasiness as easily. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust that Kakyoin could take care of himself. It had more to do with the fact that he did not trust Dio in the slightest. Their families had been in a feud with each other for as long as Jotaro could remember. And he didn’t want Dio anywhere near Kakyoin. The whole ordeal just left a bad taste in his mouth.
His previous conversation with Jonathan sprung back into his mind. More specifically what he had said about not wanting anybody else to get close to Erina. Jonathan’s words seemed to make a bit more sense to him now. But it wasn’t the same. It wasn’t because he liked Kakyoin like that . It was just because Dio was dangerous. He only wanted him to stay as far away as possible so that Kakyoin could be safe. And so that he would could be with Jotaro instead.
oh.
The realization hit Jotaro like a ton of bricks. He had known and accepted that he liked Kakyoin in a friendly way. At the same time he had also been aware of the fact that he was very attractive. But simply acknowledging that someone was attractive didn’t necessarily meant that you were attracted to them. Until everything flipped on its head and that was exactly what it meant.
Jotaro found himself staring at Kakyoin in an almost transfixed state. Had his eyes always been that bright? Had his hair always looked that soft? Had his lips always looked so plump and pink and so goddamn kissable ?
Everything inside of Jotaro screamed at him to just lean towards him, grab his face between his hands and bring their lips together. But his brain knew that doing so would be a terrible move. He did not want to come off as creepy or insensitive. Especially since Kakyoin had just told him what he thought of Dio’s advances. And to make matters worse, he didn’t even know if Kakyoin had even the slightest interest in him to begin with. Jotaro was well aware of the fact that he was not always the best at picking up on social cues.
Speaking of the devil, Dio had now started making his way towards the outer door, the omega following right behind him. But before he turned the corner he turned to gave Jotaro a wide grin, as if he had felt his eyes on him. He gave a mocking wave and mouthed something that Jotaro couldn't decipher before walking out of his line of sight and out the door. Good riddance.
Soon after Caesar plopped down on the couch next to him, moaning about what an absolute pain in the ass Joseph was. Him and Kakyoin immediately fell into conversation, with Jotaro only half listening in on their discussion. He was too busy having a near existential crisis after realizing that he without a doubt had a huge crush on Kakyoin.
The room had gotten significantly sparser as the clock ticked on. It was by now early morning.
“Oh fuck” Kakyoin moaned.
“What?” Caesar asked.
“My parents are gonna kill me for staying out this late” Kakyoin said as he quickly stood up. “I really need to get going”
Jotaro and Caesar both followed him to the door, standing by as he hurriedly got dressed.
“Well, goodbye then” Kakyoin said with a smile, his gaze jumping between the two of them.
“I’ll see you monday” Caesar said as he engulfed Kakyoin in a quick hug, both of them patting each other lightly on the back. Caesar then hurried off upstairs, probably to check up on Joseph.
“I guess I’ll see you soon as well?” Kakyoin said as he gave Jotaro a small smile. Jotaro simply nodded and mumbled a quiet “yeah”. They stood in silence for a moment, Kakyoin fidgeting with the fringes on his scarf. He then took a couple of steps forward and wrapped his arms tightly around Jotaro.
Jotaro stood frozen in place for just a second, before he quickly wrapped his arms around Kakyoin as well, wallowing in the warmth radiating off his body. He noticed a slight shift in Kakyoin’s scent, with it getting slightly sweeter as he returned the hug.
Jotaro didn’t know how long the hug lasted before Kakyoin eventually took a step back. But he did know that it without a doubt had been significantly longer than the one he had shared with Caesar.
“Bye then” the majority of his face was now hidden behind the scarf that he had quickly hiked up as soon as he broke off the hug.
“uh, yeah. Bye”
And with that Kakyoin was out the door. Jotaro stood by for another minute, watching the door intently as if Kakyoin was going to walk back through it and throw himself in his arms at any moment now.
But that never happened. Jotaro instead stepped back as a small group of other partygoers headed for the door as well. It seemed as if the party was pretty much over by now, empty bottles and glasses scattered all throughout the house. He noticed Jonathan busy cleaning up the worst of the mess in the kitchen. He gave Jotaro a slight smile as he noticed him awkwardly hovering in the doorway.
“You go to bed, I’ll take care of this. I think Polnareff and Avdol are already crashing in your room”
“Alright, thanks” Jotaro hadn’t noticed until now how exhausted he really was. “G’night”
“Goodnight”
Polnareff and Avdol had indeed quite literally crashed in his room, the both of them sleeping practically on top of each other on a pile of blankets on the floor. It looked immensely uncomfortable, but Jotaro didn’t have the heart to wake them up from their much needed sleep. Both of them were snoring soundly as Jotaro threw himself down on his bed, falling asleep himself almost as soon as his head hit the pillow beneath him.
*********
Jotaro woke up the next morning because of the sunlight hitting him straight in his face. He groaned loudly. Why did he always forget to put down the blinds before going to bed?
Avdol and Polnareff seemed to have woken up as well. Polnareff was lying face down with a bunch of blankets covering his head, while Avdol had made the effort to actually stand up, his eyes squinted to block out the sunlight.
“Good morning” Jotaro said with a yawn.
“I don’t know about that” Avdol grumbled. “Well, at least we are not as destroyed as our dear friend Polnareff here” he said as he poked Polnareff on the back with his foot. Polnareff let out a sting of muffled curses from underneath the blanket.
“How late didn’t you get to bed?” Avdol asked as he moved to sit down beside Jotaro.
“Dunno, probably around two”
“Hm” Avdol said with a glint in his eyes. “I’m guessing things went well with Kakyoin then?”
Jotaro felt his face heating up as he recalled last night's big revelation. “I don’t know what you mean” he mumbled.
“Suure” it was clear that Avdol didn’t believe him, but to Jotaro’s relief he didn’t press any further.
After the two of them finally managed to get Polnareff up off the floor and in an alright enough state to actually stand on his own, all three of them made their way downstairs. Jonathan was standing in the kitchen, cooking up enough scrambled eggs to feed an entire class of starving children.
“Good morning boys” he greeted them with a warm smile. “You staying for breakfast?”
“If there’s no trouble” Avdol replied politely.
“I think I need an aspirin” Polnareff grumbled, clearly still suffering from his bad hangover.
Soon the three friends were seated around the kitchen table, chatting about what their plans for the day was as Jonathan set the breakfast on the table. They were soon joined by Josuke, who was the only one who seemed to not be even the slightest bit tired.
“It sounded like you had fun last night” he said happily as he applied way too much jelly onto his sandwich.
“I think most of us did” Avdol replied. “Except maybe for Polnareff here, who as usual attempted to drink his entire body weight in wine”
“Did he throw up on the carpet again?”
“He sure did”
“ Gross ”
“It’s practically a tradition at this point, I have to make sure to keep it going” Polnareff laughed, already seeming to be feeling at least a little bit better.
They all continued to bicker and laugh about various things for the remainder of the meal. Caesar joined in halfway through, while Joseph seemed to still be too sick to even attempt to get out of bed. So it was really just another normal sunday morning in the Joestar household.
Jotaro might not show it very often, but he really did appreciate these little domestic moments together with his family and friends. He would choose it over excess partying and socialising with strangers any day.  And it also served to be a pretty effective way to keep his mind off of a certain redhead for at least a little while.

"Those times when it hurts... is when you most need to believe in your own fortune." In Kyuranger episode 37, Lucky receives an emotional closure to his personal arc... Also, it pains me to say this, but the show's FINAL quarter officially begins here. The countdown counter is now activated, and our starting number is 12. Including this one, that's the number of episodes left!!! Aaaaw... (-_-).
- After liberating Luth, everyone is aboard the Battle Orion Ship. Including Gramps, and Caesar who is gleefully playing with balls. By balls, I mean Kyu Globes of course, because let's face it, unlike previous mascots who had actual playmates, this poor thing is the only sentient mechanical animal of the series. I believe this is the third (or fourth, if we count pre-UrsaMinor Kotarou) time the team allowed outsiders inside their bridge. - Retainers? Silly Gramps, I see what you're doing here... but Lucky is not Takeru Shiba. At the very least, it's a reverse-scenario to Shinken Red's situation... if you know what I mean *wink*. Gotta love Tsurugi's fun upmanship attitude though, the older Red simply can't take a joke. Spada's body-language response sums it up nicely. LOL. - Quick update on their next mission, Planet Southern Cross is heavily guarded by barriers. Thus, with the help of Balance and Naga, Tsurugi proposes that the team replicates the ability of 4 Sages from 4 Constellation Systems (in alphabetical order): Andromeda, Cassiopeia, Cepheus, and Perseus. Kyu Energy of their Kyu Globes will be able to break the barrier, so they need to locate three of them since the first one is present and has been used before (special thanks to Spada for his informative little reminder). It may not be the way I've always wanted, but I'm glad these figures are utilized for something big and important. Trivia: These four Constellations are mythologically connected to one another. King Cepheus is the ruler of Phoenicia, Aethiopia. Queen Cassiopeia is his wife, infamous for boasting about her and her daughter's beauty that easily enrages the God of Sea Poseidon (seriously, what is wrong with Greek royalties?! they keep pissing off the Gods...). Princess Andromeda is obviously said daughter, who has to take the fall by being chained as human sacrifice, to be consumed by a giant sea monster. Perseus, is of course the Pegasus-riding hero who rescues her, and eventually becomes her husband. Remember that Hollywood movie "Clash of the Titans"? It was roughly based on this story. One more thing, I just learned that the first Super Sentai series "Himitsu Sentai Gorenger" received their powers from the Cassiopeia constellation. Will we somehow get a nod to this fun fact in the next episodes? We'll see. - Of course, that's the story for another day. For now, their primary focus is to clear out the circumstances with Lucky's father King Aslan in Planet Cayenne. For some reason, Lucky can't believe that his father has turned evil, and wishes to know the truth. The all-male double-Red double-Blue (and double-Yellow, if we group Gold and Yellow in the same color chart) Away Team arrives, and witnesses with their own eyes that Aslan's 'approval rating' is... VERY poor. The massive amount of extras, I mean citizen clearly despises this lying treacherous King who only cares about himself. Hmmm... I wonder why this sounds... *cough-FakeNews-cough* familiar? - Problem is, newly revived Kukuruga and Menaster of the Leo System Jyumottz have also figured out about Lucky's lineage, so they have prepared a trap through the King's public speech. This is obviously arranged to lure out the Kyurangers, and it works. Lucky tends to act on a whim, so naturally he exposes himself to the open as he tries to defend his father. - Kukuruga was the one who conquered and laid waste to the Leo System. Meaning, he's the one who forced Aslan to send his son away to Luth, and seemingly the reason why the King became a Jark Matter conspirator. We have seen the chivalry between him and Lucky before, but now things have become more personal! And Lucky demonstrates his true heroism, by taking Kukuruga's numerous hit and gets captured to protect the citizen's safety. This is remarkable. Because prioritizing his people's life and safety before him? THAT is the sign of a true leader. Dang it... the chills when Lucky practically begs his father to actually DO something. - At the same time, Tsurugi also proves he's a smarter and more perceptive Red (hence why he's sharing the ending dance with Lucky... but in a switched position). During the battle, he notices something is amiss when Jyumottz and his Tsuyo-Indavers suspiciously freak out to the sight of a raincloud. Gramps' statement about Aslan's change of 'personality' helps him deduce, that this Aslan might NOT be the real thing. An imposter, just like those Tsuyo-Indavers who were created by Jyumottz. The challenge now, is how to let the public know about this. - Lucky's public execution serves as the right stage. Kukuruga is about to use Lucky as an example to spread more fear to the people, as well as to show that Aslan is a devotee to Jark Matter's rule. Thankfully, the plan backfires almost immediately. Not just because Tsurugi's plan comes to play, but because Lucky himself openly exposes to everyone, that the King who's about to execute him is nothing more than... FAKE. - Lucky might be loud, relies on luck, and act first without thinking. But he's also smart enough to know when something isn't right. And this time, his own heartbroken tears help him realize the truth. But where's the real King Aslan, then? Turns out, in an unexpected surprise, Kukuruga has already killed him many years ago. That memory of when Aslan gave him Caesar, was also the father and son's final moment together. Aaaaw... the FEELS!!! Dang it Kyuranger, you always know how to push the right button when it comes to emotional shockers. - Tsurugi's plan further confirms this reality. Stinger, Champ, and Raptor respectively use the Aquarius, #37 Cetus, and #17 Antlia Kyu Globe's water-induced power to expose Fake-Aslan's identity. They doused the imposter with his weakness, turning him back into sand in front of his people. Aslan's reputation and good name has been cleared! He's worthy of his name after all... - Having been freed by Hammy, Lucky gets to do the first major thing in the name of his late father: avenge his death, and liberate the Leo System! Doing so in one fantastic action sequence too, because as we all know, Leo Red Orion is always a delight to see in battle. Kukuruga, Jyumottz, and his Consumarz are all defeated by Kyuren-Oh, Orion Battler, and Gigant Phoenix. Caesar even gets his share of revenge too. But is this really the last time we're going to see the Vice-Shogun? I kind of doubt it, since these higher Jark Matter figures seem to be coming back again and again. Let's worry about that later... - Lucky has proven his worth and compassion for his people, so he is more than just deserving of the throne. It's a royal legacy that he has earned. It might not be grand or massive in scale (or production design... no throne at all LOL), but the Rebellion conducts a special ceremony to celebrate this. Lucky gets to wear a cool-looking (seriously, WHERE can I get one?!) white Leo System Coat, specially hand-made by Stinger under Tsurugi's direction. Naga uses the #30 Corona Borealis Kyu Globe, so Hammy can officially crown him in front of the people. A small celebration, but a sweet and heartwarming one. You can easily tell how the Kyurangers resemble one big family. NOTE: One might argue that Gramps should have been the one to crown Lucky, but considering this has a much stronger feel, I personally don't mind. Don't forget, Hammy initially saw Lucky as a rival and resented him, but things have come along way between them, and among the whole team in general. It might feel simple, but this is character development too! By the way, I wonder if he is the first Red in Super Sentai who actually becomes a King... - With that, Lucky's personal arc has come to a satisfying close. The previous episode might not be as good, but the pay off in this one certainly is. I might not get the Darth-Vader twist I've always wanted, but this outcome is wonderful nonetheless. Lucky might not receive the long awaited reunion with his father Aslan, which was the primary reason of how he ended up becoming a Kyuranger. But he still discovered a home, his place in the universe, his royal legacy, while the memory of a benevolent father remains as uncorrupted as it has been. I can already see that the Leo System will serve as the second base for the Rebellion now, but that's not the most important thing. What truly matter is, from zero to hero, from wandering traveler to real royalty, the Lion of Rebellion has officially become... the Lion King.
Overall: Kyuranger has once again proven why it's an excellent series. Want to know why? Because it always succeeds in flipping audience's expectation. I personally came to this episode with the sole assumption that King Aslan is an evil traitor. That Kyuranger is merely going the same route to previous series. Turns out, that WAS indeed the case, but NOT they way I presumed it would be! Just like the Hoshi Minato twist, we did NOT get the actual truth about Aslan spoiled ahead of time. Even the episode's preview deliberately kept this as secret (looking at you and your repeated flaw, oh "Kamen Rider Build"). Thus the reveal was not only effective, it was genuinely unexpected, and also powerfully moving. This show keeps on surprising and exciting audience in ways they didn't see coming. That's more than just impressive, it's absolutely amazing! It's unfortunate that many audience seems to have dismissed Lucky early on, and refused to see what a worthy Red he has progressed to become. Actor Takumi Kizu has also proven over time that he too had the acting chop to rival the more popular Yousuke Kishi. This episode's emotional moments among previous others as good examples. And speaking of being a Prince and/or a King, this episode also tackled the lesson of true leadership. It's about a leader who would do anything for their people, and not a hypocrite who only thinks of themselves. To be honest, as a country Japan might not desperately need this kind of figure right now. Yet this issue easily becomes far more relatable in an international point of view, since lately many other countries seem to have suffered with the absence of one. The metaphor is current and relevant, as if the show is telling us that this is the kind of leader the world currently and desperately needs. This is why this episode shines, and why I couldn't help but shower it with praise! Next week: Abs-crunching Tsurugi? Sushi-making Garu? Bathing Hammy & Raptor? Space wuxia Xiao? It's a FAN-SERVICE FEST!
Episode 37 Score: 8,2 out of 10
