another one of these posts lol... sketches vs final. not much changed for these ones, i kind of went into them with a very solid mental image already in my head. all of these were done start to finish in procreate

thoughts below the cut

horse fight .... this is based off a really really beautiful sky i saw while driving home one evening. i'm really proud of getting the colours i saw exactly right, this kind of greenish yellow fading to dark blue and with grey clouds low over it that looked very dark against the yellow by the horizon, but very pale against the dark blue.

i thought it would be a cool backdrop to draw a scene i've been thinking about for a while. The little cartoony horses are there to provide some tonal whiplash but also because these are two immortal shapeshifters who can fight violently without it being a huge deal. the little horses represent the actual gravity of the fight (that is, kind of a slap fight between two drama queens) which contrasts with the visuals of two animals brutally tearing at eachother. also i got the two horses at the bottom mixed up, Pascal is the one with the skinny plumed tail and Macha has a more traditional horse tail and i put them on the wrong sides.

i had a LOT of trouble shading this. i didn't want the horses to be too shiny but that meant a much lower contrast in shading and even with my screen brightness turned up i could barely see what i was doing. but i wanted it to read as realistic. mixed results i think. if i did it again i might try a different shading style because this one didn't really do it for me

spooky van!!! the post i deleted by accident (rip. i will repost it soon). this is a picture of the barrow (the field) taking a different shape - in this case a cool van. the van contains every single thing the field does (including the human victims that get lost in there...) but compressed down into a manageable shape. the void is Pascal because the field is inside him. he did this for his human bf to provide novel way to travel through the Otherworld. don't ask how this works like, spatially, because the answer is: i don't do hard magic systems in this setting

i loooove shading things with pencil hatching and i really like contrasting it with smooth colours/shading so that's mainly what i did here. it was simple enough. the van is of course heavily referenced and i wish i had been able to stylise it a little more.. maybe next time. i want to draw a kind of cutaway illustration of the van showing exterior and interior (like an old blueprint schematic), which i might use as a cover for the book/comic/whatever but that will require a very intimidating level of precision so i think i'll work up to that.

RUA magazine. this is my third time doing a rua magazine cover (first time posting tho). this is an in-universe magazine distributed throughout the Otherworld to an audience of fairies. in the sketch, the illustation was originally the King of Pentacles tarot card (the pentacle being the disco ball). but i decided to make a different King of Pentacles card for him instead, since I try hard to move away from symmetrical composition for the tarot cards (it's boring). so i repurposed this one into another magazine cover. like i said Pascal is a self-absorbed attention whore and has a habit of giving bullshit interviews just so that he can be on the cover as much as possible. he dresses like this all the time (the year is 2017)

the disco ball took 15 years off my life and it's not even the first disco ball i've drawn! i finished my actual king of pentacles card before i finished the rua cover sketch, so i can show u this

which is much better even if i did reference so heavily that it isn't exactly stylised. but this card needs some serious revision before i even think about posting it. i'm just not happy with his face.

original intent was for it be mysterious with emphasis on the neon lights but it ended up far more suggestive than i expected. that's life!

PKMN ScarVio DLC AU ~ Possessed!Kieran

Just finished the page for my contribution to the good ol’ Toxic Chain theory :OOO

I recently finished the Teal Mask and finishing up the Indigo Disk DLC and while i really did like the fact that Kieran’s actions were all his own and makes him a much more realistic/relatable character, I am feeling a little robbed we didn't get a possessed!kieran + i really did not like the direction they took w/ Mochi Mayhem. I felt like it was WAAAY too silly/comedic for my tastes (if you liked it more power to you tho!), and wish we had more lore/backstory and involvement of Pecharunt and the Loyal 3 respectivally.

so i wanted to try killing two birds with one stone and try to mash ID and MM together somewhat! So heres some sketches and concept stuff ft. My PKMN!Violet sona. And also make this AU ANGSTY AS FUCK-

im not a comedy/crack/silly person when it comes to stories involving manipulation/mind control type of stuff because i just get second hand embarressment for those under doing wierd stuff while not aware so if your looking for a “silly haha!” AU with this type of concept ive got bad news for ya… this AU aint gonna be for you-

Starting off… my design for when Kieran is fully possessed by Pecharunt!

I still really liked the fact that Kieran was like. FULLY aware and in his own mind/body during ID; so i want to keep that in this AU too - for the most part.

id like to think that once making a deal with Pecharunt and offering himself to it in order to become stronger, the little peach would slowly feed him mochi that would “numb the pain and guilt if he ever feels doubtful.” At the time of Pecharunt’s debut to the start of ID, pecharunt is extremely weak and thus, its influence isnt as effective or strong. However, when we meet Kieran again, he’s definately beginning to change. throughout the story, we see Kieran’s spiraling descent into madness as he becomes more intimidating and cynical.

i dont have a specific spot where hed have this outfit change, but ill figure it out lol.

However, i def think it would be a bit after his panic attack/mental break down when we defeat him. Since at this point he couldnt uphold his end of the deal with Pecharunt, it has no choice: he offered his body and mind to it to get stronger, but he couldnt keep it up. So now, he has to pay the price.

(This would be right after the Ex-Champ bit - fuck you Draydon)

however, instead of telling himself to get stronger like in canon… he mumbles something indescernable and unintelligable… and then he starts… laughing?

“K-Kieran…?”

“Uh… yo, earth to ex-champion… you doin’ alright-?”

Suddenly… he glares at us… no. He glares at you, tears streaming down his face but an animalistic and crazily wide smile is plastered on his face as he stumbles back up, hugging himself while letting out what one would think is the most maniacal, despairing, crazy cackling laughter one could hear.

That's when you see it - his eyes, formally a light yellow, now a bright yet darkly sinister shade of violet-magenta. The scrunchie he was wearing began growing two strings of toxic chains that waved around like tentacles, and lifted him up in the air like stilts, purple smoke filling the area.

what was happening… whats happened to Kieran.

no, whatever that was…

The bottom sketch is a small scenario i had in mind!

i want pecharunt to have a larger role so here they are! After returning the teal mask to me and carmine and running off, he stumbles upon an injured and weak Pecharunt, and secretly nurses it back to health. Behind everyone’s backs the two spark a friendship/partnership!

i like to think pecharunt has good intentions and did genuinely want to help kieran get stronger, but i like to think that the toxins it gave to Kieran not only began to mess with Kieran’s mind, but with Pecharunt’s too.

how exactly? No idea just yet lol- ill figure that out later on down the line lol. Along with the loyal 3’s roles in the story as well.

QUICK DISCLAIMER! IM NOT SHIPPING MYSELF W/ KIERAN SINCE HES IMPLIED TO BE A TEEN AND IM A LEGAL ADULT!! the DLC came out when i was 17; almost 18 (released a few days before my bday actually!)

i like to think that when this story and AU respectively take place, Kieran is 14 while im 16 turning 17 that fall in Teal Mask (Carmine being 18 or 19?), then in Indigo Disc Kieran is 16, im 18, and Carmine is 19/20. So me and kieran are 2 years apart, while me and Carmine are 1-2 years apart.

Its mostly because id like to think me and kieran’s dynamic is similar to a close friend i have irl and wanted to write it as such while retaining the canon story too. If that makes sense lol.

And one more sady drawing when kieran is freed from Pecharunt’s control!

i think i speak for everyone that we needed a scene where we hugged kieran after all the shit he’s been through-

@dandenbo asked me for the art asks: 🎠What is a typical 'workflow' for a piece from idea to finished? It turns out to be a long answer so here's its own post, under the cut to save your dash! How I go from screenshot to painting: (This is not intended to be a 'this is how you do it!' kind of guide. I absolutely don't do an optimal route, this is just how I go about painting and what works for me! I've done a workflow for a screenshot to painting as I do a few different things but this is one I could explain somewhat coherently. My comics tend to be created pretty chaotically lol)

1) I take an ungodly amount of screenshots while playing. Also pester friends for their screenshots or stalk the group discord for interesting shots.

2) Go through all those screenshots cursing why I took so many, looking for those great moments that I want to paint. I’m particularly looking for nice poses/captivating moments, dynamic lighting or interesting expressions, and they don’t need to have all 3 as we can fix some of that in the next step. Here’s the screenshot I chose for my Keahi x Thane piece:

It was a cute, soft moment between them and I liked the highlight at the edge of their profiles. 3) Refine the screenshot. I don’t use anything fancy for this. I game on windows PC, so I open up the screenshot with windows photo editor. I crop the image, play around with saturation, exposure, contrast, just basic editing until it looks tastier. For this piece I wanted it to be hyper colourful and vibrant, leaning towards warmer tones.

4) Decide what I will change, then gather references for those changes. In this case I was fortunate that not a lot needed changing. I knew I wanted to move Thane’s eye position to looking at Keahi rather than the way he is slightly off focus, do a more realistic ear with earrings for Keahi, make Thane a little more smiley and lower his eyelid and give Keahi nicer eyelashes. I keep a whole bunch of art guides and tutorials on my PC so I grabbed the necessary ones and sent them to my ipad ready to have on hand for the sketch stage. I have Thane’s character model in XNApose, so I can check things like his eyelid specifically in that (this is actually for a different project but shows you what I mean)

If I was going to change up the lighting/shading I would also gather references for that. For example sometimes i’ll take screenshots of lighting schemes I love from films/tv shows (think the strong teal and orange scheme in Mad Max or the neons of Blade Runner). Or for precise shadows, I can again use XNApose. I also have a little 3d printed Thane head I can shine a torch at and take photos of to get shadow ideas. For humans there’s lots of reference to be found with online searches, I find pinterest more useful than google for this. For specific expressions or body parts, i’ll just take photos of myself (hand poses, smiling from the right angle etc.) My camera roll is an interesting place. I have drawn drell frills on my neck and on my chest before to see how the lines would fold at certain angles. 5) Setting up a canvas I work in procreate. For a piece like this I try to go pretty big, say 5000 x 4000 pixels, then i’ll crop down later as needed. 300 DPI. As I work, I’ll make duplicates and continue on the copy each fresh session. When i’m finished I make a backup save of the PNG and .procreate files on an SSD. I immediately turn the background colour down to a more muted colour to not burn my retinas. If i’m using a textured background like an oil board i’ll insert it, and any overlays like canvas effects. Set up my layers from the start basically for easy toggling throughout. I try to be good and label things to make life easier, it doesn’t always happen though. I don't wear a digital glove or use paper effect screens but I do have a bottle of screen cleaner and a microfibre cloth handy at all times. 6) Sketch. I’m still very much learning to draw. I tried for a long time to do the classic ‘ball for a head, draw the planes/lines etc. It was a constant struggle and never clicked for me, the ball especially always made things much worse, turning a circle into a 3d image in my head just does not happen. I find it better to just start drawing and work things out as I go (I use procreates reference window to see my screenshot). So I’ll have my sketch in one canvas, and i’ll also have a second canvas with the photo ref on it at the same size, and if I feel like something is really wonky and off i’ll test my lines over the photo to see what’s gone wrong, then go back to the sketch and correct the areas that revealed. Sometimes I’ll use the grid feature if i’m getting stuck. Here's a few of the sketch stages:

Here I tried out the lines on the photo and noticed that Thane’s frills were a little too far to the left, and Keahi’s eyebrow needed to arch down towards the nose.In the next pass I correct these:

Also, and I know i’m gonna get side eye from some people for this but I really could not care less to be honest. On some pieces i’ll just trace the screenshot. Sometime I just want to get to painting, am not in the mood or mindspace for a learning experience, and this is a hobby. It’s my screenshot, no one is getting ripped off. My latest Javik piece was done this way 🤷‍♂️ 6) Painting. I’ll start by blocking in the background and the portrait flats, usually on separate layers. I try to have an idea of the background colour from the start as this can effect the whole piece overall, but sometimes you just gotta change it as you go so having it on a different layer makes this much easier.

The painting itself I’ll lay down wider areas of colours, then start going in and refining bit by bit, I tend to work on one area at a time, and sometimes I’ll get pretty well rendered on a small area before moving on, other times work on a wider area. It really depends on my mood and what i’m vibing with that day. Like you can see here I’ve done some general messy colouring all over Keahi, but done a lot of refinement on the eyeball:

7) Finshing the piece, uploading and testing: When I’m sick of rendering the painting and don’t think I can add anything more to it without gnawing my own wrist off, it is time to finish up! I make sure I toggle all the layers I want on, add a top signature layer (lol I lie I forget this all the damn time). Then i’ll upload the piece to my google drive and open it up on my big 4k monitor on my PC, and on my phone, and see how it looks (my ipad is a 9.7inch air). I find that once off my ipad, it often looks a little less saturated and contrasting as it does in procreate. So I might go back and change the levels if it’s too big a difference until it looks decent across devices (it’ll never look perfect on them all though, just gotta find that happy medium).

8) Posting online I really don’t have any strict steps for this. I know some people go for optimal posting times, and will make multiple copies of their pieces in different sizes to fit better on different sites (damn you instagram and your need for everything to be square). I… do not do any of this lol. I post when I’m done whatever time or day that is. I do tend to reblog/retweet etc before I go to bed, as I live in the UK and that will at least be getting into evening time in US. I reblog my own stuff a fair bit.

a redraw meme! I'm a little mad at myself for not doing this for a few years (I've done a few other redraws in the meantime, but...it wouldve been cool to have a bunch of years in a row! TwT)

2007 was the earliest made on gimp, a touchpad and NO pressure (obvious with the THICK CHUNKY LINES. im 90% sure I did lineart, colored over them, then lined over them again all on 1 layer...) plus the pattern fills gimp had (the stripes and rainbows, plus the repeating space background that needed a desperate scale-up...)

2015 might be the most obviously tmm inspired style wise ( and I think...this character WAS a tmm oc, actually, so this tracks. her name was star hoshiko (yes. star star.) and she was infused with star power instead of an animal. whatever that means. in my defense I was Ten 👍) and was when I was still using sai!!

2016&17 were me trying to sort of push into semi-realism, the smaller eyes, the more realistic skirt in the '16 version and more realistic hair in the '17 version, and also the first ones done in clip studio which is still my mvp program.

2018 was the furthest from the original, me REALLY pushing orangey yellows for some reason (the darker oranges let the yellow glowy parts stand out more was probably my logic at the time?) it's also funny to see that I went back to a more cartoony/anime style between 2017! the eyes got bigger again, the hair more stylized (esp with the shading/highlighting!) yet the clothes got more detailed....

2024- this time around I wanted to try and capture elements of the original design, since it seemed I was drifting further and further away from it... those very bright lemony yellows that scare me to work with sometimes, the original stripes, that BAD dark yellow for the base of the dress... I know a lot of people will prefer the semi-realism of the earlier years but I feel like the very anime style is more FUN. and I feel a lot more confident in my posing, expressions, and I just. focus more on having fun than making her pretty. that being said I did try to add little details from the previous years designs :3 doing redraws is always so nice to reflect on style and improvement!! I totally recommend doing one if you want to, a blank version is here!

also for funsies, heres how gross the flats look. man i HATE that weird base dress shade T_T u can tell I did shift it to be SLIGHTLY warmer, just a bit....the cool-toned shading pushes it back to the lemony again tho, lol

I would like a season based on a combination of gemstones and popular hobbies like arts, sports, and science. It can have a moral theme of "finding your inner sparkle, your one true talent."

I've always thought that season-based characters (spring, summer, etc.) were really fun, with lots of possibilities as far as power and design go! But it would be harder to have a sixth ranger, and we've just had a 4+1 season, so I'm not too hopeful… I guess I'd like a story around art (like, each of the girl represent a certain form of creativity?) We've had lots of cures who were artist of some kind, but their interests are rarely reflected by their cure powers!

I'm kind of curious, since Toei got pretty original with the colour scheme this year… My guess is, either they'll go for something super conventional like Healin Good or Delipre, or they're going to keep their "unique color scheme" streak.

Similar to ALaMode it can be the standard trio (PBY), followed by a red and purple duo, and later joins a vibrant green.

Hopefully there'll be more than one villain active at the same time, Hirogaru Sky was honestly kind of disappointing in that regard (it does not help that the first villain's debut came with a fart joke).

I'm fine with another pink, yellow and blue Cures, but please, at least try to make them different by using different shades of said colors. There are so many, don't settle for the most basic color palette.

If it doesn't happen, I could always make fancures instead.

I really want a cure who becomes an engineer of some kind in the epilogue. Specifically a girl becoming an engineer

I am sure it will not be what I want XD but precure prove me wrong this year!

I would love unique flower motifs for each cure. All of the possibilities!

Mythology would also be a fun theme, but the Tropical team had a phoenix and so did Cure Wing, so they would probably try to space that out.

The cures' designs would be based on wild cats and domestic cat breeds: maine coon, norwegian forest cats (e.g cure forrêt), serval, jaguar. There would be a cat goddess (who could possibly also be a precure)!

Male Cure, Twins as cures, a disabled cure, a chubby cure, and a cure of color (like Elena)

I think it'd be neat to have the main trio be required to transform together as a call-back to Black/White, Bloom/Egret, Melody/Rhythm, Miracle/Magical, and Macherie/Amour, plus to keep celebrating 20 years of Precure

they will go back to pink/blue/yellow

i want scifiesque magical girls i feel like theres been lots of fairytale themeing recently and i want something very different also the idea of the midseason cure being the pink one amuses me greatly

I want more boy cures

A male lead, preferably voiced by Yuki Kaji

Random list of elements that (I think) haven't been done that much in a precure season: 1) Have cures be siblings/give a significant role to a cure's sibling. 2) Have characters actually be in a romance! I know precure has a young demographic, so romance isn't exactly important, but it's a bit tiresome how many precure romances tend to be unresolved crushes that are dragged throughout the season! I don't care if it's girl/girl, girl/boy or boy/boy, it would just be nice to see characters confess to each other and have their relationship build from there throughout the story. 3) I know there have been debates on relationships between the cures and the villains, how redeemable the villains are, how much the cures should be concerned about them, etc., but I'd like Toei to play on that dynamic more. Maybe a villain questioning their allegiance, or even turning out to be a mole for the good guys! Or on the opposite side, a cure joining the bad guys willingly, whether misguidedly or to become a mole themselves! 4) Fun stuff with the mascots! The mascots are a family! A mascot is a family member of a cure (don't ask me how that works!) Secretely-a-villain mascot! Mascot who is reluctant in their role and a bit cranky! 5) Families and non-magical friends being a relevant part of the cures' life. To be fair, it has been done several times, but it's always nice to see. 6) Boarding school!

Thanks to everyone who took part, reading these was super fun. Let's see if anyone got it right! (though you only get half of a point if the pink-blue-yellow prediction turns out right lol)

Real Oddity's 2023 Art

Hello hello, gay people in my computer, it's that time again! Time to look at my art over this year! Feel free to look at 12 pieces that I did throughout the year. Enjoy :D!!

January- Fluffybird hyperfixation was in FULL SWING, WOW! I was in a really good groove early in the year, and was getting a lot of nice work done, including these idiots! I've changed how I draw these boys, but I still really like the shading for the most part! Generally holds up well. The background is pretty cool, too! I drew it myself :]

February- Luz Noceda my beloved! The Owl House was my favorite show for a while and still means a lot to me, so I felt like drawing Luz! Overall not very happy with this piece, like the shading, and also the nose, but I love the tears and eyes :D! Also hey those weird funky angular hands I used to draw, what ever happened to those-

March- BALDI!!!!! I was such an indie horror kid, man, so when I found out I had like. 12 hours to get a drawing done for Baldi's anniversary, I fucking jumped at the chance. I'm proud of that fact, but yeesh that shading is a little gross color wise. Also I could not draw lips, ears, or noses. I still can't, but I'm better at it!

April- oh god not them- So I was into Homestuck for a bit lol. I haven't finished it, and don't know if I will, but that's beside the point! Honestly this piece still holds up! For a colored sketch, I still like it a lot, especially Whimsy's hands. Dieonn's chin though... god you can tell I'm ass at perspective-

May- Oh my goodness, it's Wally Darling! He's just the most~ This was a practice in perspective, which as mentioned before I'm not great at!. I think it came out well, and while the shading isn't realistic for a felt body, I still like it :]

June- Oh my goodness he's multiplying!!! Run, run! This was me still trying to wiggle into the Welcome Home fandom (and failing lol) This was also a practice in both just drawing Wally, and composition! I didn't do great, but hey, it was good practice.

July- Oh my gosh it's him... the birthday boy- So the Daycare Attendant stole my heart a few years back when I was really ill and recovering from some trauma, so I of course had to make something for Eclipse! I wanted to test painting, and honestly? I like it a lot, at least dirt wise. He looks so grimy, I love it, ah!! Still needs more work on the lighting, though.

August- God dammit he came back again >:[ I was getting excited for all the new fnaf stuff, so I decided to draw Springtrap, the animatronic that scarred me so much as a kid. I'm actually still pretty happy with the general lighting. Like, there are a few things I have notes on, but overall I still like it :] Also the wires were fun, hehe

September- Mr. Darling is back again! I decided to try my hand at digital painting again and!!! I am still really pleased with the results. Pretty man!

October- Oh god its The Horse Show- For Cringetober, I drew a rarepair of Rarity and Sassy Saddles from MLP:FIM. I'm still super super happy with the horse anatomy, they're so cute! This was also a test in cell shading.

November- Circus time! I thought the pairing of Jax and Kaufmo was kinda funny, so I drew them. This was another test in composition and such, and general interactions. I still think it's alright :]

December- JANUARY EVERLY MY BELOVED SON!!! God it's been a hot minute sense I've done any illustrations with Jan. This was me just dicking around tbh, but hey! The results are fun! I love my son <3

2023 was so much better than 2022 in many ways. I'm looking forward to an even better 2024, and I hope you'll join me!

Weekend WIP Game

Thanks @cha-melodius for the tag! This was super fun!

WIP List: I've got 3 and they're all Mobius lol. First one is just a screenshot painting, it's actually further along but I wanted to show an earlier stage of my process. Second is a frame for an animatic that's a crossover of Loki with Jujutsu Kaisen. Super random crossover choice but I just really love the new opening theme for that show. Last one I posted a while ago, it's the watch ad illustration which I haven't made any progress on since last time.

Which WIP is your most complex? Definitely the animatic, I'm trying to do 16 frames and some have multiple characters and complicated backgrounds.

Do any of your WIPs involve you using a technique/style that you haven't used before? What inspired you to try it? Nothing that different, though the animatic will have some frames of characters from really high and low angles, which will be tough for me.

Which WIP do you expect will take you the longest? Again the animatic lol

Which WIP are you finding the most enjoyable to create? Maybe number 1 because it's the most relaxing, with screenshot paintings I don't need to think as much.

Do you have a favourite character to draw/stitch/paint/depict? Are they in many of your WIP projects? I think that's evident from these WIPs hahah

Which WIP do you experience the most self-doubt about. Why? Number 3 because I want to do it in a painted style, but I don't have an exact lighting reference for what I want to do. Lighting is always hard for me when I don't have exact references.

Have any of your WIPs been struck by the curse of creator's block? Not often, once I've started a WIP it's because I have an idea for how I want it to look and can keep chipping away at it. If I get artblock it's when I can't think of anything to start next.

Do any of your WIPs contain characters outside the main ship? How are you finding creating those? For the animatic I'm planning to include some other characters: B-15, O.B., Casey, and Brad! It'll be my first time drawing most of them and I'm looking forward to it.

What emotions are you hoping to convey through your WIPs? Haven't thought about this too much, for 2 and 3 I'm just hoping they'll look cool hahah. And 1 is sadness (hopefully this is evident if you recognize the screenshot it's from)

Are there any features/details you are finding challenging in your WIPs? Mobius' hair in number 1 is hard since I'm trying to render it realistically.

Which WIP has the most complex shading/colouring? It'll be 3 but I haven't started that yet.

Which WIP has the most complex background? Definitely 2.

Which WIP do you have the highest expectations for? 2 I'm hoping will be really neat, but I think it also has the highest chance to not work out.

Do you dream about any of your WIPs? I haven't, but I wish I did!

Are any of your WIPs commissions? No, I don't do commissions because they stress me out, I want to draw whatever I'm most interested in the moment and not have any obligations.

Do you have a character that is more difficult to draw/stitch/paint/depict? Are they in many of your WIP projects? Female characters are harder for me to draw, because I don't do it very often. B-15 will be in WIP number 2!

Tell us one thing we don't know about one or more of your WIPs. Can't think of anything interesting for a specific WIP, but I've got a list of potential future ideas for Lokius drawings and it's currently 23 items long. 😂

since you've been playing elden ring, do you have a favorite npc so far?

Haha, my pace at discovering more of Elden Ring is SNAIL slow. And I don't mean moderately fast snail-like mobs in ER, I mean real life snails. xD So, my knowledge is still lacking. But with what I DO know, I think I can pick a favourite already!

This might come off as a surprise, but this...

...SELLEN!

Honestly, so far I liked her the most! She gives me very strong Imposter Iosefka vibe (in the scenario if after having made enough Emissaries, the Imposter also joined with them to be several small ascended people hiding in a trench coat pretending to be one BIG ascended person…). Whereas she is still, of course, a unique and interesting character on her own! It is just this kind of a female character after knowledge beyond human plane that reminds me.

I am particularly fond of the madman/woman/person characters who want to know the eldrich truths of the universe, no matter how horrifying they are and no matter what taboos they have to break, and what they have to give in exchange. I also can respect the type of 'scientist that is not above trying their own medicine' because, again, she becomes The Orb herself xd Her sassy and blunt attitude is also very appealing for me, she is a confident character with a very certain motivation! I do also enjoy how no matter what scroll she is given, her reaction is that she is familiar with this sorcery, so she is already very educated!

I've posted my analysis how in Bloodborne, Willem and 'original' Choir (from which only Yurie remains) prioritise ascending humanity and leveling with the gods as people, whereas the Choir as it is later tries to TRANSCEND humanity, and will break any taboos, just like Mensis too. In there, I actually sympathise with Willem's side and see Choir as reckless and desperate fools. But in Elden Ring, for some reason, I actually sympathise with the ideas of Sellen (and her teachers, Azur and Lusat) more instead, whereas seeing how Caria family goes about the glintstone teachings as kinda weak. Not REAL researchers. It is very funny and I can't even explain why I am so inconsistent all of a sudden; doesn't help that Rennala herself gives strong Willem and Yurie vibe! Truly, the magic of narration can make EITHER side feel more sympathetic than the other o_o"

Also, I've learned that initially her Witch's Glintsone Crown was named Grana Glintstone Crown, but it was patched out!

I feel like developers initially did want to make Sellen as important as someone who had her own school and the crown made in her likeness was a common wear too, but it never picked up because… well, her line of studies contradicted with Caria's family agenda and restrictions too much? It is one thing to just explore rocks from space, but completely different one to try and BECOME one! But I decided to go with 'they retconned the idea' rather than with 'they obscured the idea'. I mean, how exactly people would follow this "school"? They'd just become rocks lol. It is not really studying the object when you become the object.

I also honest to god cannot recall this particular shade of green glintstone anywhere else - not in an environment, nowhere on Graven Scholars, and there are no spells or staff associated with this color. So I feel like it is artificial and created BY her; would go with theme of her experimenting with turning people into seeds of a star. Heck, maybe this glintstone also had an… organic origin, too. So it cannot be turned into a weapon (unlike staffs of Azur and Lusat that ARE made from existing cosmic material), but only serve as cathalyst for intellect and sorcery of THE caster.

Also I just gotta say, I really appreciate how in these spheres everyone is always having the both horrified and awe-full expression, but she looks really blissful and calm x) She actually gave a realistic, adequate estimate towards how much she wanted to become one with the cosmos xD Lore says that even Azur and Lusat were devastated when they witnessed it, so she is arguably MORE of a madwoman than those two. Love this about her so much.

Honorable mention: so far, Nepheli is my second favorite. Her design definitely beats everyone else's amongst NPCs yet, but also she is just really appealing character. Badass warrior with two axes with great honor and will to go on no matter what, who is also very sensitive and compassionate at heart, is in touch with her vulnerable side, grieving the fallen, strong but not invincible… It is a very good example of how TO write a strong and badass female character; the power is not to be a solid brick that never cries but to be able to connect with one's insecurities and still get back up. Her being heartbroken when her father figure turned on her was very moving, for some reason this way she feels stronger than if she just got up and kicked Gideon's ass and hated him forevermore after that. I just live for this balance of both big muscles but ALSO a big heart.

ms singer was a girl colby went on a few dates with, and was done "dating" her by like halloween or a little bit after. he didn't even know malia until sam's bday, so it's not like he left ms singer for her. ms singer herself has said she's on good terms with colby and that she has no hard feelings for malia, it's katelyn she has issues with.

colby unfollowing her on her bday was not done maliciously. he just unfollowed her, most likely, bc he has unfollowed every girl he either a, dated/had a fling with or b, found hot. shock and awe to absolutely no one, she falls into that category.

but also she's STILL talking about her beef with katelyn. and look, she has every right to talk about it as long as she wants to. i'm not here to say she can't vent. but let's be real for two seconds: first and foremost, fans are egging this on and we all know that. anyone that wants to argue otherwise is just plainly ignoring what is happening. ppl go on her tiktok lives just to ask her about katelyn so she can start complaining about her yet again. and the only reason fans want more tea on katelyn is bc they hate her bc she's not kat. full stop, full transparency, that's why that's happening. yall don't like tess; you just like that she gives you tea on a girl you hate bc she maybe once shaded kat when in reality if you have more than one brain cell you would know that's not what she did. stop being so up kat's ass that you think everyone is out to get her.

and secondly, tess can complain - sure. but she is talking about real ppl that are now dealing with real hate. it's the whole fuck around and find out method. keep talking shit on someone, and someone close to them (ie colby) is gonna stop fucking with you. why is this a surprise to anyone?

not only this, but colby and ms singer only dated MAX a month, but i don't even think that's the case fully. they went on a couple dates and stayed cordial. some of these fans are acting like he blocked his bestie or something. they remained friendly with one another bc things didn't end badly between them. they don't have to have loyalty towards one another, that includes colby. this isn't some betrayal. he unfollowed bc he's taken now, and she's still talking about his best friend's gf. it's really that simple.

and colby didn't unfollow ms singer bc malia told him to. he did it bc he wanted to. he's a grown man, as many on twitter love to point out every time he does something they deem as childish. why do you think this is any different?

also, sam and kat pretended to be besties after the break up. let's be real here. there clearly was some awkward tension left between them, but if they told the fandom they were going no contact and never talking again except maybe in passing, ww3 would have started. so they remained cordial to be appease fans (and probably themselves in one way or another). and realistically, kat probably made sam unfollow her (by blocking him/muting him/removing him as a follower) bc the day she did that was after pics of him and katelyn leaked from new years. realistically she probably wasn't thrilled about that and needed some space. it also didn't help that the khakis personified that is sam golbach decided to like a tweet that she made saying how nice her spotify top five looked without the "take a look at my bf" song, which CLEARLY WAS ABOUT HIM. he got his ass blocked after that, and rightfully so lmao

i would like to request - respectfully to all anons going forward - to stop bringing up ms singer, shea, and stas. hell, throw kat in there too. i don't care enough about any of them to hear what's happening about them. i'm tired of talking about them. some of them i've been talking about for years, i've said my piece on them countless times, and i just want something else to talk about. bc it's always the same stories over and over again and i just cannot care about it any longer.

also, since i might as well throw this in too, if you genuinely think snc are malicious in any compacity - STOP WATCHING THEM. why are you here if you genuinely think colby is a slutty manwhore who fucks anything that moves and is malicious and a shitty friend and whatever other random nonsense you think he is?? why are you here if you think sam is a terrible boyfriend who's also a bit of creep and has as shitty gf and again, whatever random other shit you believe???? why are you here???? you don't like snc anymore, and yet you waste your time talking about them. what you really like is the tea that comes from them and the ppl they have surrounded themselves with. i implore you to log off and find a hobby or a content creator you ACTUALLY like.

how do you render your colors so nicely they're very pleasant to look at

thank you, that means a lot! :’D

honestly, i haven’t done many studies of actual lighting from life, i just try to learn from whatever i see around me. if i like a piece by another artist or a pretty photo, i try to figure out why it appeals to me, and i play around until i can replicate the look in my own art.

as a disclaimer, non of this is scientific or realistic by any means, and it’s not a good reference if you’re trying to create really accurate lighting effects - this is just a stylized suggestion of light that i like to paint.

first i choose my base colors. for characters i draw often, i make fixed color pallets for them that i like to think of as their “absolute” or “true” colors - basically what they would look like without any outside influence from environments and lighting. just the flat colors.

then i take the true color of their skin tone for instance, saturate and darken it slightly, and add a neighboring hue to it. in this case, jack’s skin is a pinkish color, so i add more red into it to make the shadow appear richer and more lifelike [it’s hard to explain, so if you need a more detailed guide on that, i can make a visual one]. i take that darker tone and “sketch” out where the shadows fall on the face. these particular shadows are pretty contrasted and dramatic, but these techniques can apply to softer shading as well.

now here’s the fun part: darken, saturate, and shift the hue of your shadow color again. it looks wild, but outline the edge of your shadow with this darker color, and it creates a sort of burning effect. it looks like warm, harsh light on the skin.

then blend out the outline into the shadow a bit. i really love this effect and while it’s not appropriate for every kind of lighting, sometimes i use it anyway just because it adds a shiny quality to the painting.

now highlights! for lighter colors, i take the true tone of jack’s skin, then lighten and desaturate it. i also shift it’s hue as well, but instead of adding a red tint, i lean more into the orange side of the sliding scale. this sets it apart nicely from the shadows and creates a sense of depth.

finally, i sometimes like to add a bluish, more desaturated tone in the deeper parts of the shadows as if there’s another light behind him. there can be many different light sources in your character’s environment and i like to consider what best sets the mood of the painting and makes it feel more immersive. jack has a soft blue light behind him, and it reflects on the shadowed part of his face.

then i like to add a quick filter over the art to see how it would look in different environments. light can change the true colors of your character to extreme degrees, and depending on how you paint it all to interact and work together, you can create the illusion of something that we know is a pinkish color, even if it appears dark auburn or greyish green due to the lighting, for example. this is just one short [and admittedly rushed] example of lighting, as there’s infinite possibilities and variations in what you can do. but this is my personal favorite technique and the moment and it’s really satisfying to paint.

also, i forgot to do it here rip, but often i will take a blush color and blend around the character’s cheeks, nose, ears, lips etc to add some inherent variation in the skin and keep them from looking like a creepy porcelain doll lol.

"live" blogging s7, vol 1 (some analysis, some jokes lol)

first off, I totally forgot there were other casa amor girls so opening the app to see them on the banner I was like oooo

the S7 MC isn't too bad art wise, like it's definitely better than I thought with the preview, but

I do think the skinnier size MC is super skinny and the bigger one is not that much bigger, which is a little disappointing (always appreciate more size inclusion). ideally I think there would be one more size up i think but I do understand that means they'd have to fix all the clothes 3 times.

speaking of clothes they've always been bad at the beginning of the season since like s4 and this is no exception. I wish we got more options in the beginning and then the others they tack on later

the skin tones really are only three shades with each having one warmer variation, which is kind of nice to have people get that option in tone, but I do still wish there were more shades variation in between (and darker ones in general)

for absolutely no reason I have decided that my MC is also gonna be the S5 MC from my first playthrough getting a second chance after a second failed relationship with Suresh (let's just pretend she didn't win her season lol) and she's cute in this style (but again i wish we had the right skin tone for her). I guess if fusebox is backing out of bringing back Eddie then I'm bringing my MC

Her name is Junie and she's doing a lot better now mentally and has gained a little bit of healthy weight and finally loves herself now so fusebox better not make an embarrassment out of her again.

this actually works out pretty well bc usually the casa amor girls on the show arrive at the same time unless something is special about one of them who can show up separately like MC does here (ok fine I've only seen that happen in LI USA S5 and I guess s6 of the game)

Bonnie being an LI feels solely like penance for me thinking Iona was hot but sad she wasn't even a friend really let alone an LI in s3 so thank you but for narrative purposes I'm making Junie straight

all the guys have great personalities so far and idk if it's because I'm paying attention more this time or it's just better but oh no I'm falling for all of them

the drama set up with the guys and their partners is promising writing (namely the triangle with Geri, Bryson, and Joyo but maybe just because im torn between those two anyway) I'm shocked but cautious it's episode 1 lol

as someone who doesn't have the modded app and will not pay real money for gems, I feel very happy with choosing to eavesdrop on the guys' conversation. I feel like usually a lot of the gem scenes aren't worth it but this one is fun

Joyo does skincare but can't dress and Bryson is a fashion expert but makes fun of skincare. If they joined forces they'd be unstoppable, thank God they hate each other

1. What is a piece of symbolism in your fic?

oooh i'll do my vampire au, come to me again (in the cold, cold night) for this one!!

i used vampirism in this fic specifically as a symbolic representation of the half-life one can often acquire when they return to places they've outgrown. i did it specifically in relation to the idea of feeling stagnant and being dragged back to old habits by returning to your hometown once you've had some distance from it. it's heavily shaded by my own experiences (as all of my fics are for better or worse), but i loved the idea of somebody getting turned into a vampire in Hawkins as being representative of an inability to escape the place you came from: you're back where you started, and worst of all, you're permanently stuck as the person you were when you left. what happens when all of your progress is just a circle that leads you right back to where you started?

6. What's a subtle quirk your protag has? How do you convey it in your writing?

since i've mainly done byler fics for the past *checks sundial* year, i have to say that between those two characters, i often change what kind of subtle quirks/fidgets they each have between fics. i usually try to have Will have some kind of fidget where he messes with his neck, but other than that it varies across fics

i can't say too much about it, but the wip i'm working on rn has Mike biting his nails as a fidget lol

7. What character do you enjoy writing most? Why?

i actually really enjoy writing for Will!! Mike is easier for me to write because i can kinda just project onto him and people are generally like "yeah this feels in character," but Will actually makes me think a lot more. it takes me longer to figure out his motivations and how he'd react in certain situations, so i really enjoy that aspect of working with his character. i also really enjoy writing him as,,,,idk how to put it other than angry? basically i like writing Will and giving him some sharper edges because i think that's a realistic take on his character, considering everything he's gone through. he is soft and kind, yes, and those are admirable traits, but somebody being kind doesn't mean they don't feel anger. i think he has a lot of internalized anger that's fun to explore

plus one time somebody commented on one of my fics and said i write Will really well when i portray him as having a "thorn in my side" kinda relationship with Mike, which i really do enjoy!! yes, Will is a lovesick idiot who pines, but he's also not afraid to call Mike out on his bs, and it's fun to write him that way

ty!! i'll just do both 👀 8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in Oh quite a lot of stuff that I had cooking like ~8 years ago I ended up abandoning. I don't wanna name it but several years back I had like...an original novel?? webcomic?? planned. i never really figured out what medium exactly it was going to be. i eventually abandoned it though after i realized several fundamental flaws baked into the concept and also realized i was more interested in making character-driven stuff rather than plot-driven (i had created a TON of characters to fill the world, but hadn't really like...figured out the actual story yet)

nowadays I try to be a little more realistic and less ambitious w my project ideas LOL 9. What are your file name conventions I actually name them based on what the art is about or what it's for! like "[type of commission] for [client name]" or "[ship name] week day 1" or "[character name] comic" etc. etc. I've been drawing digitally for about 15 years now, and i have literal thousands of art files. if I didn't name my files in a way where I can easily search my files I'd never find anything ever again lmao like no shade on people who just name their files "afhlskdjfk" but i genuinely cannot wrap my head around how ppl do that. i need everything to be neat and organized and i NEED to be able to find it again

I was feeling down these few days so it's time to proceed on my annual reading of Anomaly to turn my mood up ˙˚ʚ(´◡`)ɞ˚˙

Did I ever tell you how much I adore it? /hj

I think this will be the fourth, maybe fifth time reading it lmao it's just so nice to read... I will not gush again about it- well maybe I will (〃∀〃)ゞ

I think the two details I like the most of the fic are Makoto and the execution of half-demons in the fic. Okay maybe I will gush a lot again (ㆁᴗㆁ✿) not sorry♡

So, I was thinking why I like it so much (I'm not afraid to say it's my favorite fic) and it's probably because Makoto has this something other OC-centric yyh fanfictions don't have. I have given a chance to pretty much everything ao3 and ffnet have to offer on OC but imho no one can realistically pull off the sassiness(? and nonchalance Makoto has as she does if I make sense. I'm not trying to throw shade to anyone because with only the fact that someone has tried to write a fanfiction of the series is pretty respectful, but it's true that even nonchalant mcs kinda lack the,, how to say, the front(?

Lemme explain: I don't need to see Makoto to know we have the same resting bitch face/dead fish eyes (appreciative), because you write her so well I just know. Even more with the fact that she isn't very detailed in-fic.

Also she's unironically one of the funniest OCs I have had the pleasure to read. But I think I already made it known the few times I have sent you anything about Anomaly. And I think it's nice to have a comedic relief that comes from the own character rather than the situation per se.

And I know we have already discussed the half-demon thing, but it made me expand my creativity while creating yyh OCs. It's not the fact that she's a half-demon (well, it might have a part but it's not the key point), but the fact that she rejects the demon part in her, because it has done her a lot of personal pain.

A lot of the half-demon OCs I have read embrace their demon part as if it's nothing. Again, no shade, but there isn't really a realistic representation of the crisis one should have, even more with the fact that human teens have crisis with the littlest thing that sets them different from anyone. Like it's an actual, real thing everyone goes through (puberty), but there is nothing, nada, about it. I still very much enjoyed the reads, but I didn't feel particularly close to the main character, unlike with Makoto.

And that made me pretty inspired to write about half-demons/demons living in the human world that don't feel part of the world (as we see with Hiei, and in some way with Kurama in the first years of his life), and how they react in an environment that doesn't feel safe.

I believe Makoto feeling different from other OCs mostly stems from me being... not... a big reader in this fandom, lol. I'm extremely picky in general with fics, and YYH has been my favorite manga since I was a kid, so I'm the worst when it comes to finding fic of it that I like and the fact that the American dub reworked a lot of dialogue doesn't help matters because that version is simply is not the YYH I grew up with, but it's the one the majority of the fandom had access to and to me it feels like a fundamental disconnect I can't bridge a lot of the time. I was rereading YYH for the umpteenth time when the idea of writing a fic about one of the half-demons that live in Sarayashiki came to mind, and since I was in the middle of writing Inked on Skin, I felt like taking a break and doing something easier. I hadn't read anything remotely similar or had any point of reference to build Mako.

I think deciding from the start that I didn't want to derail the original plot with this new character I had thrown in, ironically, helped her growth feel more organic. She was just tagging along for the ride, she wasn't going to go on a epic adventure to save the world, so her conflict became a lot more personal, self-contained, and relatable in a way, I suppose? I can't take much credit for it, though, as I've said many times, Makoto was a character that pretty much wrote itself. Since I didn't have a preestablished idea of her life and motivations, I was able to fill in the gaps as I went. Questions like "how did she end up with a human family?" or "she's lived in Sarayashiki all her life, surely she'd have social connections?" or "how does she feel about her entire social circle being humans?" popped up and I answered them as best I could.

I also think there's a factor in play in general with fanfiction, and particularly OC fanfiction, and it's that many of the people writing it are very young, so a lot of it ends up feeling a little immature or straight up power fantasies of girlbosses and Strong Female Characters™. And while I can't speak as to how my writing is perceived, I was 27 when I began writing this fic, so I'm sure that played an important role in it. Anomaly was written from a perspective of nostalgia for a dearly loved story that has brought me wonderful things irl, and, I suppose, from an older woman looking at a lost teen girl and saying, your pain is real, but it will get better. We like to tell kids and teenagers that their problems don't really matter and everything will be way worse when they're adults, but it's not true. I like to extend that kindness to my own characters. Besides, seeing the future is the most horrifying superpower ever invented and I can't imagine anyone who'd be fine if they had to live with it, much less someone that young. Mako's holding up remarkably well, as far as I'm concerned.

The humor was completely accidental and I was convinced as I worte the first chapter that Mako was going to be a thoroughly unlikable person. Shows what I know about what I'm doing!

Reflection

I’m buzzing on energy of pure life. I have absolutely everything within me to make me feel complete.

The thought of reflecting has given me anxiety lately. I couldn’t tell you why, I had flash backs before hopping into the shower this evening, back to teenage me, it just gives me anxiety. I guess because to me my teenage years are the unknown, I don’t remember anything that i can’t trace back to a photo….. but when I get flash backs, it’s like my body is reacting to it all over again in the now. My body remembers about 80% more than I do, I get constant ticks or jolts when I’m thinking about something, it’s always caused by a thought, which thoughts though I’m trying to figure out…. I think it’s when I feel like I’m being watched, or like a glitch in the matrix idk how to explain it, it just feels like I have to get jolted back to reality but sometimes I get jolted back to reality a little wonky and I get anxious and think everyone’s staring at me/talking about me, yanno that usual. I also have become aware of my splitting, which is awesome because I didn’t even know I was doing it, I see only in black and white, but I’m getting there, I’m learning, allll byyyy myyyyyselllfffff.

I didn’t tell my D&A councillor I’ve just been diagnosed bipolar 1… I think it’s because I’m sure I don’t have it, I’m sure there’s more to add to the list. 10 years in and out and he finally gives me bipolar…. Now it’s time to get a psych.

I twitch when people don’t get what I’m saying.

I’m feeling really sad right now, also anxious and guilty, and high… I must remember the power of choice if I want to live a life where my emotions don’t stop me right where I’m standing.

I think there is more than 1 perspective I am aware of, more than 1 way I understand things, more than 1 way I process, more than 1 way I feel what I feel. Sometimes I can only see surface level, and process everything at that point, so everything is shallow, I don’t have much filling me up, I only have 1 look, I never really go into the real world that often because I can’t process it alone. I’m looking down, I’m overthinking, I’m awkward and am too aware of how my Skelton feels in my body, I’m watching every step I take, it’s like hell it really is, it’s draining and I don’t have much in my brain I just feel pressure in my body. I feel a pit in my stomach a beating in my chest. I feel nothing. I feel empty. I feel space. I feel everyone’s eyes on me, I hear everyone’s conversations. I get a fright when people talk to me, I say what they say over again in my head to make sure they were talking to me. I zone out. Im in a different land than everyone else, im alone.

I deserve to live life in all the shades of blue, a life where I’m not worried about my own silly thoughts, a life where I can let go of needing to be liked by everyone, even tho you sometimes can’t see it on the outside as my shell is VERY thick, but at the end of the day I just want to be loved. But by everyone? Like that’s impossible, I keep finding myself chasing these dragons that don’t exists, like no worry I’m struggling so hard, I’m not exactly realistic, because being realistic takes time, which I’m so scared of. I’m just gonna let my brain ramble so it may not make sense but I don’t know if my sentences are coming out structured. Lol. I keep getting distracted and want to delve deeper into another thought, because it’s interesting. I’ve been cleaning out all the stuff I collect ( vapes and $50 bags of bud ) and just anything I see like if I don’t see myself using it really I’ll Throw it out, and I’m hoping now that in return, my head will follow suit, and start clearing out these things I choose to keep for no reason. I don’t need that much stuff, it’s overwhelming i just want a simple life with my simple weekly routines, my job, my passions on the side (for now), and I keep getting distracted maybe I should clean out my whole room.

So fastforward I rearranged my whole room. And what’s on my mind right now is eye contact, and how I find it gut reaching. To think about it my mum had the most scariest stare ever, and I guess I got scared of looking people in the eye, because I constantly feel guilty. I look unconfident and I don’t like it, so I’m gonna try change it. My confidence is hurting right now, and demands to be ripped up from its roots and regrown, so we’re starting from the bottom, let try do this right. maybe i can write my article on confidence, since thats what i need to work on.

What is really my problem like what’s my deal? Why do I feel so empty lately? I’m acknowledging the fact that I feel good right now, I feel okay.
