since 2020 is almost over, i thought i’d share (some of) my favorite fics that made my 2020 a lot better.
[note: not all of these fics were written/published in 2020, although most of them are, there are some that are older, but that i’ve read or re-read this year]

“Is this true?” Harry grabbed the beta by the shoulders. “Bryce, where did you hear that?”
“There’s rumors going around the castle,” he smirked. “stories about his beauty and his cold attitude. They know he is an omega only because of his scent, but he has never had a heat.”
“Do you know what this means?”
Bryce smirk grew into a big smile. “He can’t give you an heir.”
A cold prince, an alpha with nothing left to lose and a kingdom with a secret.

But It's Useless by thinlines
“Hey.”
Louis was even hallucinating now. He closed his eyes.
“Hey, you.”
He chuckled wetly, head still leaning against the door.
“Can you get out of the way? You're blocking the door.”
He exhaled sharply before slowly turning around. His eyes fixed onto muddy Nike trainers before it traveled up to impossibly short jogging shorts. The yellow color was atrocious, simply ghastly.
“What happened to being polite, Harold?”
OR Omega Louis would never guess that he would be trying to hack into Alpha Harry's Wifi. That is until everything changes when he tries to get to know his enemy.

haunted by the ghost of you by missandrogyny
He’s tall—that’s the first thing that registers in Louis’ head when he spots him, standing with his hands behind his back. Tall, with curly hair, staring at them with the widest, greenest eyes Louis has ever seen. And wait, are those dimples? Louis didn’t know ghosts could have dimples.
Because he’s definitely a ghost, this boy. At first glance he looks normal, standing there pigeon-toed in a band shirt (The Ramones, Louis can’t help but note incredulously), dark jeans, and some boots, with rings on both hands, and tattoos littering his left arm—a sleeve made of anchors and names and roses and other completely unrelated things. But he’s also a little bit translucent; if Louis focuses, he can see the outline of the furniture, the design of the wallpaper through him.
“Hi,” the boy—the ghost—says to Louis. His face shifts; somehow his dimples dig deeper into his cheeks. His eyes flit from Louis, to Niall, to Liam, and finally to Zayn, and his face goes from shocked to elated. “I’m Harry.”
At in that exact moment, standing between three of his best friends and staring at a (quite handsome) ghost, Louis can only think one thing.
Nick Grimshaw was right.

Figure skating is as vital to Louis’ identity as his DNA, so when his skates go missing right before the last Olympics of his career there may be a meltdown only vanilla bath salts can fix. Well, that and the stupidly charming hockey player he met on the plane.
Harry’s too old to be the wonder kid and too young to be taken seriously in the NHL. As an alternate thrown in at the last second, he fights to prove himself on the national team at the largest sporting event known to man. Or he will, once he gets off this flight and can focus on something other than the fussy figure skater and his stunningly blue eyes.
A baggage mix-up skews both of their perfectly laid plans for gold, forcing the two to work together as the clock clicks towards the minute they’re expected to shine on centre ice.

“Anyways,” Louis stresses, narrowing his eyes, “just let me say it and then rate how terrible of an idea it is on a scale from one to ten.”
“Alright,” Zayn agrees, sitting up expectantly.
“I want to ask Harry Styles to take my virginity,” Louis blurts, holding his hands out for emphasis.
The way Zayn’s eyes bulge is almost comical. “Negative infinity,” he says, voice choked. “Negative infinity times negative infinity.”
“Technically, a negative times a negative is -”
“Really negative infinity,” Zayn corrects himself, shaking his head wildly. “Louis, what the fuck?”

Or, Louis wants to have sex with someone and decides Harry is the perfect alpha for the job.

Louis blinks his eyes open, his eyelids fluttering as the room swims around him. He takes several gulps of beer once he confirms that he’s definitely not hallucinating, that the very first portrait Harry Styles ever painted of him is hanging on that wall.
Louis stares at the wall, his heart jackrabbiting in his chest as he realizes that there’s not just one painting of him, there’s five, the portraits lined up like they’re some sort of storyboard depicting the rise and fall of his deepest love. His greatest heartache. A pain that cut him so deep that he left the fucking country, severing all ties with his life in New York, now suddenly surrounding him as if he’d never left.
Fucking shit motherfucker fuck.
Louis returns to New York City five years after he left it – and the love of his life – behind. He didn't intend to see Harry again, but fate has a funny way of pulling them together, whether they like it or not. After making a begrudging truce, they both start to wonder: Would it be so bad if history repeated itself?

Hate to Smoke (Without Me) by louhazpride
“For fuck’s sake,” he huffs, grabbing the pillow and pulling it on top of his head in an attempt to block out the banging coming from the other side of the wall.
It’s the third time this week that his neighbour has woken him up in the middle of the night with his little ‘rendezvous.’ Honestly, he's quite sick of it. There’s only so much sex he can bear to hear in one week and he has already hit his limit. If he wanted to listen to someone having sex, he’d turn to porn.
As if the noises weren’t enough, Harry immediately becomes aware of the faint aroma of weed filling his flat.
“I’m going to murder him.”
Sleep. Harry just wants one good night of sleep. However, his neighbour has a thing for headboard-banging-against-the-wall-sex every night. After a secret set-up and a bet, Harry may finally get the sleep he so much desires.

Three Days in February by writing_practice
“We have to get out of here, outside,” Harry whispered, turning his hand in Louis’s grip to hold on and pull them both to their feet.
“And how do we fucking do that?” Louis hissed, carefully rising and pulling Harry to his feet before Harry could do it. His gaze darted to the front then back of the arena. “None of the doors are where they’re supposed to be.”
“What?” Harry looked around again too, couldn’t see any doors, only knew that they must be there, somewhere. “How do you know?”
Confusion slid over Louis's features.
“Because we’ve been here before, Haz. It’s the O2.”
The show. It must be the first night of their tour. They were too late; they were out of time.
Louis is cursed after a night out with the lads and the five have just three days to figure out what happened and how to break it before Harry and Louis both lose their sanity and maybe something more. Louis can hear everything Harry thinks and Harry isn’t sure he can keep his feelings for Louis a secret from his own mind.
Ridiculous amounts of banter and angst, a lot of Harry and Louis alone together, a healthy dose of OT5 friendship, and one very magical weekend.

“Dear diary. Today is going to be a good day, and here’s why...”
“What are you doing?” Louis mumbled as he bit into a piece of toast.
“It’s been almost two years and today Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson reunite. Louis is very excited about…”
Louis’ chair screeched along the kitchen floor as he flew up out of his seat, quickly grabbing the paper from Niall’s grasp. As he scanned the page he found it amounted to lines of nothing.
“What is this?” Louis asked again. “We’ve discussed how Harry Styles will never be spoken of in this flat. I don’t care how long it’s been.”
Niall snatched the paper from Louis and proceeded to draw a line across the page before writing.
“Today is the day that he-who-shall-not-be-named is coming to dinner.”

Louis looked between Niall and the house, unsure how to respond.
“I don’t understand,” Louis finally managed to say. “Aren’t we a little old to be living so close to campus?”
Niall scoffed. “You’re only twenty-four for fuck’s sake. There is still plenty of partying left for us to do. What better place than one street over from where a car was set on fire after the Michigan game last year?”
“Is there proof of that? Did the car have Michigan plates or something? Is there a photo I can send in a DM to Wolfie?”

The Riverdale 102(?)-Day Sprint, Day 3: “Chapter Eighteen: When a Stranger Calls”
The Chimera Rears its Head
Well! Yesterday’s episode was... eventful. Today we step back to what I’m praying is a simpler time, hopefully with fewer cults, serial killers, and unexplained vigilantism. I suspect some characters will still be alive; I’m assuming Archie’s dad doesn’t die until like Chapter 40 or so, since Red seemed pretty over his dad’s death by yesterday’s episode. Also I love that nickname, “Red”; it’s so vague! It’d make a lot more sense if he was like the only redhead in town, but Cheryl Blossom already exists. Why not call him “A”, or “varsity jacket”, or “chinny”? Those are just as defining characteristics as the color of his hair. I still can’t get over the fact that he looks like a Minecraft character. He’s so square and he’s built like a truck. I know some 16-year-olds can be completely jacked but this is ridiculous. In any case, on to the episode.
                                                   *          *          *
The good news is this episode was indeed not as hectic as yesterday’s, but there were still plenty of moving parts. I guess the Black Hood is the name of one person, not a cult, and that the cult is totally unrelated? I know that Polly joins the cult right? That’s why she was being “deprogrammed” in yesterday’s episode. Or are they the same? I guess I’ll figure it out eventually. Hiram seems sort of shady but not nearly as sinister as I initially thought, just a standard business character really. I still think the Black Hood is Betty’s dad, because it’s a dumb twist and it gives him a personal connection to Betty. Also the smart thing to do would be to use Nick as bait when the Black Hood goes to kill him, but I’m sure the writers will contrive a reason for that not to happen.  As for Jughead and the Serpents subplot, it’s likely going to end with a few of them dying and becoming martyrs, which will lead to an all-out war in Riverdale, and then eventually love will triumph over all and everything will go back to “normal”.
I feel like these write-ups are just summaries, and that isn’t my intention, but there’s just so much garbage to sift through that I need to lay everything out just to be able to get to talking about what I think of the show. Obviously I dislike it quite a bit, but it’s becoming increasingly clear to me what Riverdale is – it’s a nightmarish chimeric creature, a monster made of tropes from every high school drama/mystery/thriller ever. We’ve got the obvious Twin Peaks parallels, a bit of The Outsiders, and some hamfisted attempts at addressing social issues teens may face. Once again I’m tempted to draw parallels between this and 13 Reasons Why, a similarly tumultuous and horribly written show. But the issue when Riverdale tries to address high school party culture or hazing or peer pressure or whatever is that it’s still Riverdale, a show which apparently also has zombies and magic and murder cults. It’s impossible to take any of it seriously, and I continue to question whether the writers are aware of this. The show still feels very genuine, as if the writers think they’re making a masterpiece, instead of the campy mess that was Chapter 61. I’m not sure which is better though, writers who genuinely think they’re making something profound and failing miserably or writers who simply give up and do whatever. Hopefully, throughout my rambling critique, I restrict myself to the former and not the latter.
Tomorrow: “Chapter 75: Lynchian” - wait Lynchian??? If this has anything to do with David Lynch or Twin Peaks I will cry and puke.
quick notes
- oh fantastic we’ve got a gang war, Hiram Lodge being vaguely sinister, and the cult/Black Hood guy (he’s Betty’s dad right? or something like that?), according to the recap
- and Archie’s dad is still alive! neat
- technically I don’t know if he dies but in yesterday’s episode all the talk of “your dad would be proud” seems to point to that being the case
- GANG WAR GANG WAR! and a pipe bomb for the newspaper! for such a supposedly “small and sleepy town” a lot of stuff sure happens there
- using my amazing powers of precognition I predict there’s going to be some kind of West Side Story type episode down the line. Hell, maybe it’ll even be a musical one!
- “Great. So Archie started World War 3.” he did???
- so Jughead’s dad was either a sheriff or crime boss or something – it’s said he “kept the peace”. noted
- so Archie and Veronica are already a thing? huh. and that’s still going on in Chapter 61...
- ha AHAHAHA it really is West Side Story! or maybe The Outsiders is a better comparison. North Side v. South Side seems a lot like Socs vs. Greasers
- wait if that’s the case... maybe it ends with a few being martyred and then they make peace or something?
- There’s my confirmation! Jughead’s dad was the former leader of the Serpents. good to know
- ok so the Black Hood says he sees her dad but I still think he is her dad. unless his death is unrelated to all of this...
- that theoretical flowchart should also include who’s related to who, who’s dead, and who’s alive. I think by the end of Week 1 I should make it for what I’ve seen so far
- Jughead doing the old “changing the organization from the inside” thing. that’ll definitely work
- love how when Betty’s like “we can’t publish this thing the Black Hood told me to! it’d destroy my mom’s credibility!” Archie doesn’t hesitate at all and he’s just like “you should totally do it lol. lmao”
- what’s the deal with Betty’s dad anyway? I swear he didn’t exist in the first episode
- Party boy from NY whose name I don’t remember is such a sleaze it’s almost funny
- “I wish we could just go... just hop on a motorcycle and leave Riverdale.” That is such a James Hurley thing to say. Glad Riverdale is taking inspiration from the worst parts of Twin Peaks
- if NY party boy called Archie a square he’d be right on the money. his face is so... geometric
- HA Betty just decides to bring up something out of the blue at the party bc of stress or whatever and now everyone hates her. that is a textbook CW show writing moment
- Also have they built up that Betty is jealous of Veronica? They seemed fine in the first ep- oh I see what’s going on
- “Try to reform all you want, you’re still a bad person, Veronica. You’ll always be a bad person” huh. weird thing to just blurt out with seemingly no buildup
- I get it, the Black Hood is turning her against her friends, but wow they are doing an awful job establishing why she’s entertaining any of the ideas he’s planting in her head
- Why is Betty so quick to do what the Black Hood says??? Did I miss the part where he publicly murdered someone or bombed somewhere? why is everyone so afraid of some idiot on the phone?
- IMAGINE DRAGONS SONG AHAHHAHAA
- “I crossed a line-“ “You obliterated a line!” yea a line of coke heyoooo (but seriously this dialogue makes me want to die)
- of course Cheryl gets with the NY party boy. match made in heaven
- ...and now I want to eat the previous sentence. holy shit I did not expect him to be a rapist for some reason. I should’ve known they’d go for that
- Love that he gets a beatdown from the Pussycats, although that’s probably not going to mean great things for Hiram’s deal
- I knew they wouldn’t reveal who the Black Hood was, but man was that fakeout stupid. I saw it coming from a mile away, the classic “You and I are not so different”
- and of course when Betty is pressed by the Black Hood for the name of someone to murder, she names Nick, NY Party Boy. good for her

All My Love, Evie — Chapter 2 (previous chapter)
Even though she had no desire to be there, Evie bristled when Jay and Carlos came tumbling out of the limo, and with their vacancy Evie could see a slew of Auradon students watching them, greeting them with streamers and their very own welcome party.
She exited quickly, trying to look as prim and proper as possible, smoothing out her skirt and giving a radiant smile.
It took a little too long for the boys to realize they had an audience to their fight, and Mal nearly kicked them in the side.
The marching band opened up, and the three that approached them truly did look like they came straight from the fairy tales. The woman even half-sang as she spoke, hoping to break up the wrestling teenagers. It did halt them, mostly from the shock of suddenly being face-to-face with the “prissy people” as Jay had described earlier.
Jay reluctantly threw the stolen goods back in the limo — of course, only his fellow VKs noticed him slip a few of the smaller items into his clothing in the same motion; he’d taken most of the candy already out of habit of never knowing when he’d see food again, and just hadn’t yet taken a few of the other items until it was too late — and tried to look as innocent as he could manage.
Which, of course, lasted only seconds as he began to try and flirt with the teen girl of the trio.
Unlike the girls on the Isle, this one looked more disturbed than flattered, immediately looking down on Jay while giving him the fakest smile Evie had ever seen.
“Welcome to Auradon Prep! I’m Fairy Godmother, Headmistress.” The woman spoke.
Out of the corner of her eye, she could see Mal perk up. Having had no chance to divulge the plan in the limo — lest the limo driver hear — Evie could only assume the good fairy would play some part in the plan, otherwise Mal wouldn’t have cared.
While Mal conversed with the woman, Evie couldn’t help but tune out, taking in her surroundings.
The sun was definitely brighter here, without both the barrier and the thick layer of smog that coated the Isle’s sky, and her leather felt hot on her skin.
She took note of everyone’s attire: it was mostly softer fabrics, more suited for the sunnier skies, but also in bright colors that Evie didn’t hate, but she could only look at them for so long.
She didn’t realize the world could be so vibrant.
She tuned back in when Fairy Godmother waved her hands about. Evie bit down on her lip, trying not to laugh at how ridiculous she looked while doing so.
The two teens then introduced themselves, one of them being Ben, Prince of Auradon, and the other-
“Princess Audrey, his girlfriend!” She then grabbed his arm like a reflex and turned to him, eyes wide. “Right, Benny-boo?”
Carlos actually snorted, and the rest of them tried to keep their cool.
Evie wished Harry was there, if only for that moment to witness with her the awkwardness that followed Audrey’s declaration.
Ben good naturedly clasped his hand over Audrey’s and gave her a smile, but not nearly as genuine as it should have been. His actions were more rigid than anything, and for a brief moment Evie wondered if they were together because they were both royalty, or if they truly did have feelings for another.
She saw herself in another life where she followed her mother’s wishes and went for a prince, giving him affectionate nicknames in public that made him embarrassed but he was too nice to say anything, and she looked as exhausting to be around as Audrey did in that moment.
It became an item on an ever-growing list of reasons why she was glad to be an Isle girl.
- - -
She normally wasn’t supposed to get a break, but Uma took one anyway, tossing her apron to the side upon seeing Gil walk into the shop without his usual carefree grin. And she knew exactly what was up.
Gil stayed by the sword check, not even bothering to add his as he waited for his captain.
“Just so we’re on the same page,” Uma began, retrieving her own sword out of habit, “what kind of reaction are we talking about? Grumpy silence? Anger he’s taking out on some unfortunate soul? …Tears?”
Gil couldn’t help but chuckle. “I don’t think even he would know how to handle his own tears. I’d say it’s more of a grumpy silence. Throwin’ rocks at everything, though.”
“Good. We can handle this.”
- - -
Being with the royal couple became much more exhausting than Evie imagined. As it turned out, Audrey was Sleeping Beauty’s daughter, and she and Mal were at each other’s throats before Evie could even blink.
It was entertaining to watch.
Ben was being a complete sport, ignoring the arguing and instead trying to make them feel comfortable. It was easy to see he was being genuine, especially against Audrey who was being everything but.
He was also matching Mal’s banter with ease, and even Mal was surprised, as she’d meant for them to only be snide comments to go over the prince’s head.
Audrey became even more attached to Ben’s side, more akin to a leech than a girlfriend, making sure to bring Ben’s arm around her shoulder while staring Mal right in the eyes while talking about their glorious royal bloodlines.
“I may not like the guy,” Jay stood next to her, voice low as he nicked an item off a table, “but have I ever told you how glad I am you two aren’t like…this?”
“You could stand to mention it more.” She gently elbowed him. “Else we’ll start doing it only around you.”
“This is Doug. He’s gonna help you with your class schedules and show you the rest of your dorms.” Ben introduced one of the marching band members as he came down the stairs. Soon after, Audrey nearly dragged Ben away from them, leaving the bespectacled boy alone.
“Hi guys, I’m Dopey’s son, as in-” He began listing off most of the dwarves, but Evie stopped paying attention. While he was no son of Snow White, he was still related to someone that helped end her mother, and it put Evie on alert.
He froze when he finally looked at her. “Heigh ho…”
Knowing Harry would understand — hell, as soon as she’d tell him, they’d be laughing about it together — she did what she had been taught to do.
She put her hands on her waist, curled her lips up, and slowly made her way to him, giving him ample time to gawk.
“Evie, Evil Queen’s daughter.”
As soon as he heard that, he diverted his attention as quickly as possible, diving right into what their classes would be.
Evie wanted to laugh.
As he rambled on, she innocently twirled a ringlet between her fingers, pretending to be wholly interested in what he was saying.
“-History of Woodsmen and Pirates-” She paused for just a few seconds, looking forward to the class to see just what they taught about pirates here as opposed to what she knew about them, before bringing back her interested façade.
With Doug distracted, Mal snuck up behind him just for the silent laughter of listening to his voice crack upon noticing her behind him.
If everyone else was as jumpy as him, it was surely going to be great fun for the VKs.
- - -
Goblin Wharf was one of the closest points to Auradon, and Harry sat on the pier. Sure, he was surrounded by the smell of the sea, but his comfort was diluted by the land mass across from him.
As a pirate, he was used to a certain degree of uncertainty, of chaos, but his mates were the one stability. Uma, Gil, the Lost Revenge and her crew, and Evie.
He couldn’t help but feel like he lost part of her.
He picked up another rock and threw it at the goblin that was walking too close for comfort, and the thing only growled at him before recoiling.
The VKs were barely gone a few hours but the pirate crew were already taking up the old territories, enjoying the benefits that followed the control and fear.
“Rocks? I expected your sword, Hook.”
Harry didn’t turn around, just continued to weigh the rock in his hand, giving him something to distract himself.
Uma watched him with steady eyes. He was waging war against himself, and he’d be the only casualty.
Sometimes, Uma would let him work his problems out for himself, but this was too severe, too pressing to let it fester. It would rot him from the inside out, and she needed to end it.
“Evie.” The name made him freeze, but he didn’t immediately lash out, so Uma continued, sitting down beside her first mate. “You know, when you first told me you were trying to recruit the daughter of the Evil Queen, I thought nothing of it. That young, we only had our parent’s rep, so I thought you were recruiting her based on that. But when you were still chatty when she was a VK, I didn’t like it.”
Uma tapped the hilt of her sword. “For the longest time, I just really wanted to make her cry.”
Gil bit his knuckles in an attempt to prevent any sound from escaping his throat when Harry whipped his head around.
“…Are ye sure ye want to be sayin’ this to me right now, Captain?”
“Yes. I’m trying to make a point. Shut up and listen.” Harry narrowed his eyes and looked away. “I didn’t like her. After all, she threw her lot in with Mal, and you were still chummy with her. It was that simple. I nearly sent you to the plank once you told me you two were dating. But that was before I met her, before I saw just how well you two got on, and now I’d gladly trust that VK with my life.”
Harry turned back to her, jaw taut but his eyes scanned his Captain’s, trying to take her words in. Words he never thought he’d hear her speak.
Uma bared her teeth in a grin. “Hear that, Harry? I’d trust Mal’s best friend with my life. She’s always welcome here because she’s earned it. Someone of that caliber wouldn’t abandon her mates.”
Gil gave his own smile, patting Harry gently on the back. “It’s temporary. Even at worse, where they can’t get us all out, they’ll just return. Evie will return.”
“And really, I’m kind of hoping for that. That means Mal would’ve lost and, really, it’ll be hilarious to witness. But if they do win, you’ll get both your blue-hued loves, her and the sea.”
Harry sat still, fingers tracing the rock still clutched in his hand. His muscles were more relaxed, and if one looked close enough, there were the beginnings of a soft smile on his lips.
“…That was actually helpful.”
Uma ruffled his already messy hair. “Good. Now you get to take my night shift.”
She and Gil ran off, hoping to avoid being the target of that rock, heads thrown back in laughter.
Harry shook his head, trying to ignore how one of his best friends just swindled him, as he cast one last look to Auradon, renewed by the thought that life might be different the next time he was able to have her in his arms.

Monthly Movie Recap: May 2017
Monthly Movie Recap: May 2017 It was one of those months that it was nearly over before I realized that I hadn't seen any movies yet! I did see Guardians of the Galaxy on opening night with Amy, but then I didn't see another movie till my group of friends and I saw Everything, Everything for my birthday. Then with my parents the next night I saw Baywatch. So only three this month but between both my brother and I's birthdays, finals, graduation, and starting my new job that's not too bad. Guardians was by far my favorite, then Baywatch, and least was Everything, Everything. Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2:
Now I remembered little to none of the first movie, I think I only saw it full out once but I didn’t really need to to understand what was going on here. Side story; but the only time I’ve seen the first movie was in Disneyland back in 2014 before it was officially released in this really cool 4D theater. Also let’s keep in mind that I’m a casual comic book movie fan so I’m not really basing my opinions on anything other than my enjoyment.
I was able to see it twice. I went to a preview screening that my local theater does (and brought my best friend Amy as well) on the Thursday before it came out and then again on Sunday in a old small town theater in Jacksonville. (Completely unrelated but one theater showed the Thor trailer and one did not)
The first time I really was just paying attention to the story and just enjoying it (which I did) and the second time I actually took notes. Here’s some of the general notes about the movie that I wrote down from my second viewing:
- There’s a new intro where it shows movie characters rather than flipping through comic book pages. Not sure which one I like better, though I don’t mind the new one
- I love the opening scene. Am I biased because I’m from Missouri and I love the 80s? Maybe
- Also James Gunn is from Missouri; St.Louis more specifically so I love it. Fun fact Sean Gunn went to SLUH for high school
- An odd thing to love but I love all the colors, especially at the end (more on this later)
- Is Awesome Mixtape Vol.2 actually awesome? Yes. I personally prefers over Vol. 1
- Hey the dad from Sky High is here too
- Baby Groot needs a car seat
- Some lines were predictable but that’s every movie. One I really didn’t care for was when Ego tells Peter he’s just like everyone else and Peter says “what’s so wrong with that?”
- Also thought that sometimes jokes weren’t needed, a moment can just be a moment
- “Spacesuits for emergencies, or for fun”
- Ego’s planet was so pretty ( why does it remind me of the emerald city?) but was there really a need for a museum type show about why and how he formed the planet
- Kicking and messing with Baby Groot? Not okay
- Baby Groot dancing to basically the whole song Mr.Blue Sky while everyone else is fighting a giant space monster? Very okay (and so adorable!)
- Okay but like we kind of knew Ego was the bad guy the whole time, right?
- “You’re like Mary Poppins!” “Is he cool?” “Yeah he’s cool” “I’m Mary Poppins!!”
- Didn’t mind that they used The Chain twice because I love that song but we could have fit Fox on The Run in there somewhere
- I agree, Baby Groot is too adorable to kill
- I don’t know what Cheers is either Gamora, but if I did I’m sure it would have been a cool reference
- “I thought Yondu was your father.” Turns out he was
- Why do I love Sean Gunn’s character so much? I’m not even really sure I know who he is or what his purpose was besides getting the ship ready but I loved him. Especially when he asks Nebula what she’s going to do with her cut of the money (units?) and she tells him about wanting to kill her sister and buy a bunch of weapons and he’s just like “I meant like a pretty necklace, or a hat, something the girls would aw at”
- “They killed all my friends"😭
- Yondu’s arrow is so cool, Hawkeye should get himself one of those.
- Baby Groot getting crushed by rocks (?) and has no idea what else to do so he just starts crying, that broke my heart
- Cute little space family
- Screw Ego for putting the tumor in Meredith’s brain. I hate him
- Ok but Peter building Pac-Man was so cool
- “I’m going to make some weird shit!”
- I wish I knew what was so important about the batteries that the gold girl kept trying to kill them for stealing them
- The gold people’s little remote controls spaceships had arcade sounds and I loved it
- So many credit scenes that were about the movie (the Peter and Groot scene was my favorite)
- Also when Rocket, Baby Groot, Yondu and Kraglin were jumping through all the worlds (the part where Stan Lee has him cameo) I thought it would have been cool to like flash Asgard, just an idea
- I’m a sucker for friends choosing to become a family
- So did Peter lose his immortality and God qualities when they killed Ego? Or not?
- The scene where Ego and Peter are playing catch is emotionally manipulative
- I’m also a sucker for power group shots and there’s a good amount of them, enough to make me happy
- Baby Groot trying to get the fin but he keeps coming back with different things was so cute. Brings back a desk; “we told you it was this big!”
- My favorite arrow scene was when it hit the lights out and then killed all those people and all you could see was the trail of red glow
Now back to what I said earlier about colors. I have a personal theory, that at least for me, bright colors matter. I mean I often find myself re watching movies like The Avengers or Captain America: Civil War (which isn’t overly colorful but is bright) but not movies like Captain America: The Winter Soldier or like Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice because they’re just dark. Like literally have a dark color palette. I don’t know if that makes any sense but this movie was full of colors and it was beautiful.
This may be a movie series where I prefer the second one over the first. They’re both good but I really like Vol. 2. I love the music in it so much, defiantly more than the first movie. This is definitely worth seeing in theaters and not waiting till it comes out later. Also wish I would have seen it in 3D because there’s a couple scenes that I bet look amazing in 3D! Especially the funeral scene, I bet that’s awesome in 3D! With all the colors and pretty lights.
Watch again: YES I will for sure see it again in theaters, hopefully 3D, and this will be a movie I preorder the DVD
Watch the sequel?: it’s a marvel movie, so of course, I’ll watch Vol. 3 as well as anything else remotely related to this movie
Baywatch: I thought this movie was alright. I definitely laughed and thought some parts were funny and I wouldn't go out of my way to not recommend it to someone. It's not going to be a summer favorite or anything but who doesn't love Zac Effron? I think my favorite part was definitely the High School Musical reference and just the whole name thing was funny to me and my parents. I didn't not enjoy this movie, it had me laughing a decent amount but I know it's not going to be like a classic comedy for me or anything like that. It’s a typical good summer comedy. I'll probably watch it again and most likely will get it on DVD but I don't think I'll go see it in theaters again.
Watch again: Yeah, I would watch this movie again but I don’t think I ever seek after it or get a craving to watch it again.
Watch the sequel?: Yeah, again I think I would. I enjoyed the first one enough to watch the second one, should one be made. Everything, Everything: I was not a fan of this movie. I mean it's one of those movies you go into knowing it's going to be far fetched and ridiculous but I just couldn't get on board with this movie. I went with about six friends to see it, Amy and I sat next to each other and just ripped the movie apart. I mean we made fun of everything, she described us as the old guys from the muppets (Statler and Waldorf). The movie wasn't as bad as we made it out to be, but I still didn't really like it. I knew it would be out there but like it was so out there. Now I never read the book, I do own it, and it's in my personal library, but I haven't had the chance to read it yet so I can't say how accurate it was to the book. I did like something's about it, I like the little twist where Maddy discovers that she was never really sick, and I liked the actor who played Olly (Nick Robinson) I thought he was pretty good. I also really loved the scene where he taped all the pictures of the ocean on her window and said something along the lines of “Every ocean deserves to be seen by you” that was really cute and I do really love that moment from the movie. I did also like how the movie made me think differently, like how we as people put so must trust into the people we love because we love them, we just believe everything they say is the truth because so far they haven’t proven us otherwise. That’s kind of scary, like to think that we just trust the people we love so easily, and we really could have no idea what's actually true and what isn’t. So in summary, I didn’t love the movie, but I liked how it got me thinking deeper.
Watch again?: Not on my own, no. The only way I see myself watching this movie again is if I’m with a group of people who want to.
Overall: May was a bus month and I didn’t see as many movies as I would have liked to, but with it now being summer vacation, I should be able to catch up for what I missed in May in June. I love that I got to see Guardians on opening night, that was really cool and a great way to start the summer movie season.
Next Month: June is a jam packed month for movies. So excited for Wonder Woman!! Also I feel like I might be alone in this, but I’m actually really excited for Baby Driver as well! As for kids movies, I’m actually going to Disney World the week Cars 3 is released so I plan on seeing it down in Orlando and Despicable Me is one of Amy’s favorite movies so we’ll go see the third on for sure. I will 100% be skipping out on 47 Meters Down, no thank you. Book of Henry has my interest because I’m slightly confused by it. Basically June is the hot spot for summer movies and with my theater having 5$ Tuesdays and 5$ student Thursdays, I hope to see as many as I can
