Chapter 4

      By a miracle or the grace of Chuck, Dean managed to get into the building by showing his fake badge. Yeah, he knew a guy in New York that can forge good fake IDs. He quickly went to one of the custodian closets and changed into a tux and stuffed the rest of his stuff into his duffle bag. He slicked back his hair and looked at the mirror, knowing he looked decent enough to pass as a guest. 

"Now or never, Winchester." He said as he left the closet and checked to see if anyone was around. He walked up the stairs to where party was being held. He found where the large crowd of well-dressed right people walking into one of the largest rooms in the museum. He stood straight and act as if he was part of the rich crowd. It was easy to act like a stuck-up wealthy bastard after all the times that he and Sam had to go undercover for a case. He grabs a glass of champagne when he was offered and shooed away the waiter. He stuck to the shadows as the party was lively. With a classic band playing and laying a lot mix of jazz and blues playing. Finest food being served and bright lights shining the entire ballroom. He scanned the room to try and find his target when a voice appeared behind him.

"Looking for something, tiger?" Said a feminine voice that made him turn around, now seeing a beautiful red-haired woman in a red silk gown that made him think that he was looking at a real-life version of Jessica Rabbit. He took a good look at the woman and realized that this was none other than Natasha Romanoff, Also known as Black Widow. The Avengers' best infiltrator and spy and former assassin. 

'Oh shit.'

'Told you this wasn't a good idea.'

'Shut up! Do you ever stop talking?!'

"No, not really just watching." Dean replied and hoping that she would leave him be. He knows for a fact that Natasha was a spy and could read him like a book given enough time. He doesn't need to have his cover blown and ruin his plans. 

"I see, just enjoying the Perks of being a Wallflower, handsome?" She flirted and Dean smiles back at the woman. If he weren't about to expose one of her teammates to her, He would have enjoyed the attention he was giving Natasha. 

"So far, I am, gorgeous." He flirted back.

"The name is Natasha, Natasha Romanoff." She sticks out her hand and for Dean to grab and shake it. Dean offers her his hand in return.

"Clark Harrison, pleased to meet you." He gave her a fake that he often used for cases shook her hand with a little bit of hesitation. 'Dean, relax don't blow your cover.' Dean then let's go of Natasha's hand and draw his attention back to the dance floor. 

"Well, Clark. You want to dance?" Natasha offered and Dean took her hand as they both walked to the dance floor. The two danced for a while as Dean continued to search the room for (Name). 

"So, Clark. What made you come all the way to New York? Business? Pleasure?" asked the red-haired woman while Dean glanced around the room for (Name). 

"A bit of both, actually." Dean admitted. He saw (Name) and some what they would call in the hunting world, 'unfinished business' and believe him what he's planning on doing would bring him a lot of pleasure.

"Guess you can find a bit of both I suppose?" Dean continued to look around the room in search of his target. He's got to act quick, or his cover is going to be blown. Suddenly, the music stops, and everyone turned to the stage of the event. 

"Excuse me. Excuse me everyone!" Said the familiar voice of Tony Stark everyone focused their eyes on where the ostentatious billionaire was speaking from. He was wearing a classic black and white tuxedo and standing where the band was playing. "First of all, I like to thank everyone for coming tonight to help raise funds to benefit aiding people around the world effective by hungry and poverty. Your donations will help greatly to those effected by war and disaster and we cannot thank you enough. And I speak for all of us when I say this The Avengers thank you for your aid." He raised his glass and the rest of the crowd followed. "However, that's not the reason that I am up here! I know this is charity event, but I honestly just couldn't help myself! It has come to my attention that we have a birthday today and had to take the opportunity to embarrass her for it. I'm her uncle Tony after all." the. They crowd cheered with their wine glasses in the air, for the soon to be revealed birthday boy or girl. "I would like for this said person to come right up and let us sing in celebration of the day that she came out the birth cannel." Tony said and people chuckled at his inappropriate joke and other's just shook their heads. Dean looked around the room, still trying to look for his ex-wife. 

And speaking of the devil and she appears. 

"(Name) (Last name)! Come on down, Game of Thrones! and say a few words!" Tony exclaimed and then the stage shined on Dean's left direction and saw (Name) shining right in the middle of the dance floor with Steve with his arm around his shoulder, trying so hard to hide her face from embarrassment by cover her face in Steve's chest. Dean watches her shake her head probably saying she don't want to go up there. Which is rich considering what an attention whore she really was. She couldn't stand not having Dean's attention for one second and make him drop everything just to spend time with her.

She tried to run away but sudden a large, blonde-haired man, who Dean recognized as Thor picking her up while laughing his ass off throwing her on his shoulders. The Thunder god he carried her to the stage with Steve laughing seeing his girlfriend being carried like a sack of flour as Wanda and Vision stood next him. Dean quickly slicked away from Natasha as her eyes were on (Name) being carried to the stage and smiling. Dean scowled while looking at Black Widow clapping for his ex-wife.

'Let's see how long you'll be clapping when I'm done, Ms. Romanoff.' Dean thought as he slips away into the shadows in order to get to (Name). he just had to stick to the shadows and remain hidden from sight, until he can get (Name) lone and confront her. 

Thor Finally reached the top of the stage with (Name) and plopped her next to Tony as the stoplight shined on the two of them. Tony then gave her the mic and hugged her muttered a happy birthday to her. (Name) took a deep breath and raised the mic closer to her glossed lips and smiled.

"Thanks, Uncle Tony." She chuckled now zoning her eyes onto the audience of the wealthy and power looking at her. "First, again. Thanks so much for your donations and generosity for helping the needy and less fortunate around the world. I can't tell you how much this means to me. Personally, I mean." She said as the crowd listen intently of what the heroin was saying while Dean just zoned out, only waiting for her to get off stage. He doesn't need to be hearing her empty of words of fake empathy. "As someone that had grown up in an orphanage, I didn't have anything. No home, no parents, no family-"

"No heart? No Conscious? Or a human soul?" Dean muttered under his breath as he heard (Name)'s speech. Boy, did he want to gag at her being so fake. Yes, it's true she grew up with nothing, and did not have an easy life by any means. However, Dean and Sam were the ones that took her in and gave her his heart wholeheartedly and she stomped on it. He gave her a home and a family, though it wasn't a literal home. Living in a new motel every week or having to sleep in the Impala wasn't exactly appealing or even stable. At one point, he wanted to stop hunting and just build a life with her. Have a home together and have a family. But she ruined it, no! She demolished it. Now, she was trying to do the same to the Avengers and to her beloved Captain. All because she wanted to live out some insane fantasy of being America's sweetheart and the arm candy of Captain America. Just so that she can be the one on top after their divorce. 

"It was hard. Really hard not knowing who you really were. nothing but a name. I was just dumped on the doorsteps of some orphanage in Kansas. No, I can assure you that I am not Superman or anything. Though, being able to fly would make my job so much easier." She jested as the crowd chuckled and laughed at her reference to pop culture. Dean for some reason thought that last bit was quite funny and smirked. "But the worst part of that was how alone I was and how lost I was. The only real family I had was with my best friend who I grew up with in the orphanage. She had passed on when we were in college at Duke at nineteen and I ended up dropping out. Sense then, my life was a mess, and I didn't think I could ever come back from it. Until I met Steve Rogers and the rest of the Avengers." She continued and Dean could swear he saw Steve blushing at him mention. Dean again felt like he wanted to vomit. "I have usually kept a lot of my past a secret, that is well known. Only my teammates know the full extent of it. I'd like to keep it that way."

"Not all of it, sweetheart." Dean whispered, knowing full well there is no way that she had told them about her life as a hunter (and a terrible one at that) and was also married to him and cheated on him.

"So, at my lowest point, I had met Steve and he basically became my rock and my center for the foundation of my recovery. He was the first to take a chance on me, to train me and has not left my side sense. Many accuse us of being long lost twins at birth. I mean do I look like a hundred-year-old plus woman to these people?" The crowd burst into laughter at another joke. "But, seriously. All I want to say is that even though I love everyone on the team, I would not be here today celebrating another birthday, without that old geezer down there. I wouldn't be who I am today without you. All of you. I love you and I'm proud to call you family." (Name) then ends her speech by hold a flute glass up in the air with the mic still in her hands. "Cheers, to friends, family and second chances." 

"CHEERS!" The crowd hailed as they drink from their glasses. Dean then drinks from his own to not draw attention and blend in. He placed the glass on a nearby table and moved a bit closer to the stage. He noticed that (Name) was about the exit the stage giving Dean a chance to corner her. When suddenly Tony came back up and grabbed the mic from her and spoke once more. He really wished he would be able to punch Tony right now. 

"Lovely speech, Game of Thrones. Really touched my robotic heart. However, before you all go back to dancing, I just want to give one last opportunity to humiliate my girl just a little bit more. Bring it out, Stann!" Tony exclaimed and an old white guy in dark glasses in a waiter's uniform came out with a large delicious looking chocolate cake with the amount of candles that matched (Name)'s age. Dean watches as she hugged the man that delivered the cake and the old man hugged (Name) and muttered a happy birthday to her. "Alright! On my mark! One. Two. Three!" The crowd began to sing "Happy Birthday" to (Name), making Dean think back to the time that he and (Name) celebrated her birthday together as married couple for the first time. 

"Happy Birthday, Sweetheart. As good as this cake looks, it's still not going to be as sweet as you." He said as he held out the cake to her and she gave him the biggest smile.

"Oh, Dean. You didn't have to do that." She muttered softly as her eyes lite up after her husband had took the time to make her a cake.

"Yes, I do, (Name). I love you and I wanted to show that everyday for the rest of my life." He said as (Name) blushed and covered her face.

"That's a big commitment, Dean. Hope you are up for it." She laughed still feeling flushed at her husband's charming gesture.

"I plan on it, Sweetness."

"If only you held up your promise, sweetness. You promised to love me and be faithful to me until death do us part. I'll never forgive you for breaking your vows and for breaking my heart. I loved you with all I had, and you broke it. I won't let you do that to anyone else. Not even to captain heartthrob." Dean pulled out his gun and his demon knife, ready to fight his former love if he had to, maybe even kill. Yes, if it meant exposing (Name) for her fraudulent public persona. He watches (Name) leave the stage after she blow out the candles and unfortunately, she disappeared when the old, white guy in glasses started cutting the cake and distribute it. With the crowd was distracted with their gluttony, Dean hunted for (Name). finding no success, he decided to go outside of the ballroom and to the hallway. He took a deep breath and placed his hands on his head going down a hallway filled with exquisite statues.

"I'm in way over my head, right now. Every time I find her in a crowd, she disappears in the last minute." Dean gasped trying to get away from the crowd of rich snobby pricks that would never experience a day of what Dean lived through. The hunter was about to go in when he noticed on the he sees the white-haired young woman he was hunting down walked out from the ballroom. Before (Name) could notice him, Dean hides behind a pillar, hoping she wouldn't see him. He hears footsteps fade away through the echo of the hallway. Dean looks around and could see that (Name) was gone. He walked away from the pillar that hid his frame. He quietly walked down the hall and to the corner and saw (Name) looking up at some of the artwork hanging on the walls, looking like she was lost in thought. 

Dean got a closer look at her and never really realized on how beautiful (Name) truly was and how much she physically changed since he last saw her. She looked like an eternal, shining star casting her light among unworthy mortal men. The woman's white, starlight hair shone like the full moon on a clear, cloudless night. her (S/c) skin was clear and free of any blemishes or scars, making her look ethereally flawless and don't get him started on her figure. Though she was wearing an A-line gown, Dean could see just how fit she had become. It was slimmer, curvier, and toned than when he last spoke to her, when he called her fat and ugly. Her midnight blue gown made her appearance the ever more radiant and her perfectly even make up made her the ever more immaculate. He finally got close enough to notice that she was wearing what looked like a golden neckless shaped like a star with a diamond in the middle. Her new boyfriend must have given it to her he thought, scrunching his nose up in repulsion at the thought. Even Maria whom he praised and dangled in front of (Name), mocking he that she will one day be his new wife, paled in comparison to what his ex-wife looked like now. He never thought she could look this good, this regal.

The longer Dean kept looking at her, the more he kept thinking of the night of their first date together. He remembered how beautiful she looked that day. In truth, Dean had always thought (Name) was stunning, even when they were dating. However, after what she had done to him that ended their marriage, she became the ugliest person on the planet to him.

It was a crisp fall evening when Dean had come and picked her up from Bobby's when she stayed there. 

"I'll get it, Bobby!" She called from the other side of the screen door as she turned the knob and revealed herself wearing a long-sleeve green sundress with white flowers and holding a denim jacket for the cool air. Her (H/c) hair was braided up and curled in a way that showed off her lovely neck. She wore only little amount of make-up that brought out her own natural beauty. It still made Dean's heart skip a beat when he saw her.

"Wow, you look fantastic sweetheart!" Dean gasped looking at his lovely date for the evening. 

In all honesty, Dean was more nervous about taking (Name) on an official date for the first time. He never had been truly formal with a girl and taking her out like a real man. He had always been the kind of guy that would just spend the night and leave in the morning. That was only because that was the only thing could give the women in his life. Dean didn't believe he was relationship material, due to the life he lived. But after meeting (Name), he felt taking a chance on trying for one. 

"You look pretty great yourself, Dean." She replied back looking at the handsome hunter with that charming devilish smirk of his that made her face turned beet-red, especially when he was wearing that leather jacket. The couple were interrupted by an old man popping out of the door glaring at Dean.

"Remember Dean, no funny business. She's a good girl and doesn't deserve to be a notch in your-"

"Bobby, relax. It's not like that. We're just going to a dinner and a movie and we will back around 12 o'clock." Dean said with a nervous grin. It was almost like his whole cocky demeanor changed when the older hunter emerged from his doorway. 

"Make it 10, son. No later." Bobby retorted with his arms folded to his chest. Ever since (Name) became a hunter, he had taken it upon himself to be a surrogate father to the young new huntress. Though he had known Dean for much longer, since his childhood, he more protective of (Name). Mostly because of how much of a ladies' man he is. To help ease the tension, (Name) stepped between the two men.

"Bobby, give him a break. Tell you what? I will be back by 11 tonight? No later okay?" She suggested and waited for the old man to answer. He rolled his eyes and sighed.

"Alright, you win, sugar. 11 o'clock, no later. Got it?" He pointed at Dean and the young man comedically and anxiously game the old man an thumbs up. 

"Got it, Bobby." Dean agreed and (Name) walked up to him and grabbed his hand and happily sprinted to Dean's Impala. It was the best date Dean ever had.

As Dean's memories distracted him, he then hears even louder footsteps come out from the ballroom and saw Steve Rogers coming out with two plates of cake. The hunter watched the couple as (Name) grabbed a plate from Steve, smiling at him. Dean's emotions rapidly changed as he saw the pair converse, growing angrier as he watched Steve put his arm around her shoulders. She giggled as he kissed her on the head in an extremely affectionate way. It made Dean realized the reason that he was here. He was here to expose the monster that his ex-wife truly was. A cold heartless, dishonest cheater that no man would love, and he was going to end her little charade tonight, be any means necessary.

As Steve walked away from (Name), Dean then took his opportunity to walk up to, with his gun in hand. She had her back turned as Dean walked closer to her slowly and quietly. He was only a few feet away from (Name) when he finally spoke to her for the very first time in nearly four years. 

"(Name)." He coldly uttered to her loud enough for her to hear. He noticed her flinch as her breath hitched, making Dean smirk watching her squirm as she turned around slowly. He could have sworn that her beautiful (E/C) grew twice their size when she laid eyes on him. Her mouth dropped as she had forgot how to breath.

"Dean?" She whispered in absolute and utter disbelief that her ex-husband was standing right in front of her. Dean did nothing but smirk as (Name) shocked expressing didn't faulter as she gawked at him. 

"Darling, it's seems you and I need to talk."

Happy We Are the Tigers Week Day 5 everyone!!

Today's prompt: Mistletoe

You probably know the drill by now, but here I am, presenting you with another song commentary/analysis to celebrate the day. Since the prompt is Mistletoe and I really couldn't come up with anything super creative, and I can't draw to save my life (shoutout to those who have been blessed with talent in the fanart department) today's song commentary/analysis will be Wallflower, as Mistletoe is a plant, and thus reminded me of the song, which also has a reference to a plant.

Okay, now that I'm done explaining my reasoning for picking the song, let's get into it.

•Um I absolutely LOVE how this song starts. Such a catchy little hook.

•Oh GOD I cannot WAIT to hear Lauren and Wonu sing this together as Riley and Cairo again.

•"But who has your back every single time you crack" The way Riley sings this line later in The Breakdown tho

•"See it's me who's beside you constantly making sure you don't see how much everyone is trashing us for"

•OOH YES and this is my favorite part

•I also loveeee watching this in the slime tutorial, the stage blocking in this song is great

•One thing I did note when listening to the song again, is how Cairo sings that line about having Riley's back, but interestingly Riley when she sings about Cairo never does. Cairo says she stepped in to save the other kids from teasing Riley, but Riley just sang about how Cairo mouthed off and got into fights, not even if she helped Cairo at all.

•I wonder if that's really subtle foreshadowing now that I think about it.

•OH MY GOD AND THEN THIS PART I LOVE IT SOOOOO MUCH

•When they both separate and sing their own part of the song-

•I love how it ends like that, like Cairo has to feel like she needs to be the one who has the last word

2021 Books Read

Ancillary Mercy, Provenance- Ann Leckie

i spent the last part of 2020 and the first part of 2021 rereading all of the Imperial Radch books, very worthwhile. this reminds me that there are some other Leckie books i could stand to reread soon

Bridget Jones’s Diary- Fielding

terrible body image treatment in this book. read this out of my absurd need to understand the pop culture references of the early 2000s, found it unrewarding. reading Eat Pray Love the year before punished me less.

The Perks of Being a Wallflower- Chbosky

motives for reading this essentially the same as above. this book was actually fine, just not really my type of book.

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks- Rebecca Skloot

i read this for the just for fun english class i took in the spring. this was the only book i read from feb-june.

these books are fun! a good series to dive through, colorful world building and lots of trees. plot is a little thin but almost all of the characters are bisexual.

His Majesty’s Dragon, Throne of Jade, Black Powder War, Empire of Ivory, Victory of Eagles, Tongues of Serpents, Crucible of Gold, Blood of Tryants, League of Dragons, Golden Age and Other Stories- Naomi Novik

this series was delightful. some of the changes dragons brought to colonialism felt a little overly optimistic but were also gratifying to read about. at the time i thought i was learning a lot about the Napoleonic wars, since i continuously read up on the real events while i was reading the series. sadly because Novik’s writing is so much better than Wikipedia, i now only remember the version of events with dragons.

The City We Became- N. K. Jemisin

this book is slightly annoying if you are from the west coast. i’m looking forward to moving on to Jemisin’s other works.

The Lady Astronaut of Mars, The Calculating Stars, The Fated Sky, The Relentless Moon- Mary Robinette Kowal

these are pretty fun!

A Wizard of Earthsea, The Tombs of Atuan, The Farthest Shore, Tehanu, Tales from Earthsea, The Other Wind, The Left Hand of Darkness- Ursula Le Guin

i finally read the earthsea books! i’m very pleased i did, and The Left Hand of Darkness was a work apart. Really moving, interesting story.

not a bad story, although it had the feel of a new author. horror remains not my genre.

This is How You Lose the Time War- Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

this book was not for me. maybe i didn’t understand it? i only made it through because it was so short, and i’m not sure what made it award-winning.

Riot Baby- Tochi Onyebuchi

i’m looking forward to this author’s development- i thought this was a decent work and i think the author’s writing has plenty of potential to get stronger.

really, really worth reading.

hello since last night i've been thinking about how good watt would be as a netflix miniseries n then i remembered you made that edit so i wondered if you had any thoughts on how that would go 👀

okay i have Some already made thoughts and rambling just came up with thoughts

i would want it to start with the summer of the accident that made this all happen where we see everyone doing their thing:

idk if the accident happened at a game or competiton but im setting it at a football game so it can be tigers vs titans and we get to see eva

clark in the football game

some visual context about chess’ olympic past u know like some schools have clippings of student accomplishments on a board or like trophy cases or something

obviously the bad stunt happening

reese as mascot, possibly doing what she did in the show with the if chess needs a minute i can join but get rejecte

captain kimberly sexting the whole time x

i would want more indepth familial storys about some of them like annleigh/farrah before the sleepover (like we see annleigh getting dressed that could b a longer convo about how her parents expect her to take care of farrah etc) but like with all of them

i feel like it could be similar to the carrie tv movie (which is fitting considering its an insp for the show) where it intercuts with police interviews and the whole show is basically them re-living what happened that night for their statements

possible general overview w music (although could even b without):

ep 1 = flashback to the stunt and worst team ever (ends at the end of the song)

ep 2 = “does anyone have an update on annleigh/farrah” *straight cut to them arguing in the car outside, annleigh trying to take the bottle, whilst clark tries to stop them and then it cuts straight back to a silent team* “.........theres no service?”. dont even occurs. i feel like ending when kate and chess leave would be a solid place to end?

ep 3 = skype tomorrow,, i feel like possibly seeing flashbacks of their relationship could be here bc its not a very visual song?? sounds kinda cheesy tho. btb also happens here and the ep ends w chess dying

ep 4 = forever to farrahs death would probs b this ep but that feels like a squeeze bc its 3 songs so we might have to cut it at mattie being sick after captain of the team?

ep 5 = wallflower and defense

ep 6 = matties lament,, mayb over a montage of her being put into prison and possibly what everyone else is like at school like cairo not getting replies from riley and her watching motivational speeches n stuff jkdfkjfd (i feel like the shut tf u joke kinda wouldnt work as well idk?? i would possibly interupt it with a police interviewer confirming that mattie didnt think she was guilty but that makes it more serious idk it could still work),, phoenix also happens, ep ends at kate leaving?

ep 7 = move on to wallflower reprise mayb? once again 3 songs so may be tight but theres not a great place to cut

ep 8 = idk and the breakdown defo possibly could go straight the end? would like to bulk out the last scene a bit with actual apologies to reese and may some grave visiting and kateva and possibly cario visiting riley in prison and also the whole police statement thing would need to be wrapped up ?? (idk why but id kinda like riley to be portrayed more sympathetic instead of “psycho killer” like she had a mental break due to the stresses of needing to be perfect n i feel like that gets overlooked sometimes)

i feel like it could be stretched to 10 eps if it was cut well

i also think there could be some well done foreshadowing but i dont know how i would impliment it atm kfdfkj but the actual show does it well anyway in the script,, possibly add some visual foreshadowing for the tv show

im not sure if i have any other thoughts at this time but feel free to share some thoughts !!

a new horizon - starry musical: tommy as vincent and tubbo as theo, oh god oh fuck. especially after jan. 20th and this real feeling of looking over a new horizon for those two as this season is ending. also like horizons are their whole thing, with the sweet bench moments. 

fathers & sons - ghost quartet: phil, tommy, wilbur, and fundy. i wish i could elaborate. i've already made a post about ghost quartet lyrics that fit the smp lore just go look at that and figure it out yourself lmao.

wallflower (reprise) - we are the tigers: look man you gotta understand how much i wish a bit more dream team angst could have happened in canon. yes my brain is mushy for wanting to push together we are the tigers and dream smp. ehh i’m not really using my brain rn.

forever - we are the tigers: girl dream and mexican dream. it simultaneously doesn't fit At All because girl dream and mexican dream are so very openly horny, but it also fits well because clark fucking dies, and so does mexican dream. i miss girl dream and mexican dream so much can we please have them back. natalya - preludes: puffy, maybe singing about niki, or dream, perhaps the smp's turmoil as a whole? because of her heroic deeds and her motivations to be hopeful/rooted in good. yeah :)

the entire hatchetsmp au: please god, i wish i could make animatics out of the hatchetsmp because it combines the two things my brain knows most about and smashes them together in a way that makes sense. words just cannot describe how much i love the concept of ranboo as paul matthews. words really cannot describe how much i love the whole concept of the hatchetsmp au.

hey Katie! hope this isn’t too much of a bother but if you feel like answering - how did the LA Tigers characterizations most differ from the off-broadway portrayals? I know pretty much nothing about the earlier productions and wondered how certain facets of the characters changed/evolved (and I hope you’re doing well!!)

Hi, nonny! Sorry for the late response, I really wanted time to sit with the question until I felt confident that I was answering it in the most honest way I could. So let’s jump into it!

1. RIley

Callandra Olivia seemed more aware of everything than Lauren Zakrin. Like when Annleigh says “He came to propose!”, she still had the “Congratulations!”, and she started it almost as enthusiastically as Lauren, but midway through trailed off when she remembered Clark’s dead. It also felt a lot less pre-meditated. I continue to hold that she came up with the idea during Before the Breakdown to kill them, because you could just see it in her eyes. Also, Callandra was lovely and kind and passionate and... never got all of the words right. For example, in Wallflower one night she said “The type of high school girl who is rarely seen at parties with her pants off”. Also, she didn’t have a knife in the breakdown. 

2. Cairo

Wonu is wonderful, but Jade really seemed like she just... cared more? Which is interesting, because the script had more Cairo quips, but she just seemed to care more about the other girls. What comes to mind is the “God, I have done nothing with my life!” “You won a lot of dressage medals!” “I did!”. The way that line was delivered was very comforting. In my memory, Cairo even has an arm around Annleigh as she delivers it, and it wasn’t snarky at all. Cairo didn’t become the captain in LA, but it would have made so much sense with her characterization if she had. In LA, Annleigh also brought her the phone and she made the call to the police herself, which I really liked because it showed her stepping up and actively playing a part in getting things right.

3. Kate

Kate was not queercoded in LA. She wasn’t explicitly straight, but the idea that was in love with Chess didn’t even cross my mind until I saw Jenny in the role. I don’t have any specific examples of this, it just seemed less like she didn’t want Chess to leave because she was in love with her and more that she didn’t want her to leave because she had spent so long as her best friend that she didn’t know how to be herself without her.

4. Annleigh

Rachel King took things much more seriously than Kaitlyn Frank. The gesture of good will never killed anyone line was added into the workshop, so after LA but before Off-Broadway, which Rachel swooped in to save the day in, and where Kaitlyn is just so bright and sunny and whatnot, that is not the case with Rachel. Rachel said it with a completely straight face, and slowly nodded while she said ‘Jesus’, like she just really seemed to take her beliefs a lot more seriously than Kaitlyn.

5. Reese

The word that comes to mind for Gabi’s Reese is exhausted. Like, in Worst Team Ever, when Cairo stops her from entering, the line “I’m part of the team” wasn’t said with her head held high and drawing on some source of inner strength, or at least pretending to, it was more of a “We’re still going over this?”, like she actually said “C’mon, I’m part of the team.” Like she still desperately wanted to belong and fit in, but she had long since given up hope that she ever would. But also her Captain of the Team was just 10/10 god tier.

6. Eva

Eva did not make an appearance in act one of LA, which gave her a lot more distance from the events. She wasn’t a suspect, more just a bystander, which made her just 100% done with all of this nonsense. There were two lines that I felt describe this best that were cut- after Riley said “Do you really think I couldn’t replace you all with another ‘diversity scholarship’ in two seconds?” she interrupted to be like “I’m maaaaaybe a quarter Puerto Rican?” and after she plays back the confession, she was asked how long she was recording and she said “This whole time. Y’all are crazy.”

7. Chess

I actually was lucky enough to see two Chesses, Cait Fairbanks and swing Katie DeShan, and they had very different takes. Cait’s was closer to Celeste, but Katie. Oh, Katie. I could write an essay on Katie’s Chess. In all the different productions and casts I’ve seen, Katie isn’t just my favorite Chess, she’s my favorite performer from the show. She played Chess as very playful, and she smiled a lot... until Before the Breakdown, which was made so, so much sadder by the way her facade broke apart and you saw how truly deeply miserable she was and how she felt like there was nothing she could control. I had already seen the show twice by the time I saw her, and she just broken my heart so, so much even though you’d think I would be worn out because it was the third time I was seeing it in as many days,

8. Farrah

I was also lucky enough to see a second Farrah, but her characterization didn’t differ much so we don’t need to focus in one that. But up above, where I said Cairo was a lot more empathetic? Farrah was way less. I think the biggest thing for her was that the failed stunt didn’t exist, so there was no explanation for why she felt like the team wasn’t supporting her or that she would always be linked to what she already was and would never be anything better. Also, Cairo’s line Off-Broadway of “Is [Farrah] raiding Riley’s parents’ liquor cabinet again?” would actually have been based in truth if the line was there in LA because that was exactly what she was doing, she had found the alcohol in the house and was sitting on the kitchen floor, drinking it straight from the bottle.

9 & 10. Clark and Mattie

Did technically exist and that’s about all I can tell you about them because there wasn’t anything they did that stood out enough to stay with me still.

brave new world by adolus huxley (fun fact i "read" this with the audiobook and i had to stop bc its ... a lot. like dense made up words. too long, just in general. anyways i only give this a 4/10 but i did finally finish it. so.)

13 minutes by sarah pinborough (ya thriller; im obsessed; 11/10 def reccomend)

the female of the species by mindy mcginnis (another ya "thriller;" beginning and middle way more interesting than end; 6/10, read it if u like being disappointed)

hollow by rhonda parrish (a ya thriller/supernatural mystery; huge rape tw; 5/10, interesting concept but the execution was weird and the end wasnt satisfying)

ive run out of books that ive read. oh dear. i bought the goldfinch at a used bookstore and ive seen the movie so that counts, right? (it doesnt. 10/10 gay as hell)

good things that happened to me

i got a pay raise and position change at work and i dont dread work as much anymore !

Okay, in all seriousness, I still do love this show, but holy shit.

This is going to be an unpopular opinions dump because I can.

Riley is a good character. In fact, she’s a great characters. The fandom just doesn’t know how to pay attention to anybody other than Kate to view Riley as anything but like... demon spawn.

Kate is just as insecure and anxiety ridden as everybody else, and of everybody, probably gives the most shits.

Cairo has more chemistry with everybody than Kate and Eva do

Kate being paranoid in Skype Tomorrow does not mean that Chess would actually leave her. Y’all just project onto Kate a lot.

Kaitlyn Frank and Lauren Zakrin harmonizing to Skype Tomorrow though.

Skype Tomorrow was my favorite song the first time I listened to it, and after that it was nowhere near the top. Because I too am mean, gay, and have trust issues. And then I realized that in comparison to the other songs, I don’t like Skype Tomorrow.

Before The Breakdown is top tier, but I also love Chess, so maybe I’m a bit biased.

Like, the harmonies in BTB are so good, and I play it on loop sometimes because it gets me in the Feels™️

We shouldn’t be erasing any of the characters negative traits. Cairo’s still doesn’t work for much, doesn’t take things seriously, and is really carefree. Write the characters as they are in the show.

If you write about Clark, acknowledge that he has more traits than being a sweetheart. Like, there’s so much you can do with his character because there’s nothing there.

Listening to Forever makes me think of something really stupid that Maya said, and I will now be exposing her. “What if we read the first five books of the Bible together... and we were both girls.... just kidding just kidding.”

The clap that Reese does in Cairo’s face during CotT is iconic.

CotT lowkey sounds like California Gurls by Katy Perry if you listen hard enough. Like, at the pre-chorus or whatever.

WATT has this terrible transition thing down. We will go from addictions to horny teenagers.

Wallflower has potential to be heartbreaking, but the backing track hides how sad it is.

Cairo was in the wrong during the scene starting Wallflower. Did they both cross a line? Yes. It could’ve been avoided if Cairo didn’t start the argument

I replay Wallflower so that I can aggressively and terribly sing both parts.

Defense is so much better when you have the dialogue in between it.

Also, I know the Defense choreo just from watching it so many times. I wasn’t even trying to learn, I just know it.

WONU’S RUNS, UGH, SHE’S SO AMAZING.

Mattie is so precious, and I love her.

With that being said, she’s not five. She literally cursed in the show, and after Juvie she probably curses the most. She doesn’t need protection because she went through a lot

I haven’t watched Over the Moon because one of my friends, who’s Chinese, said that she didn’t like how it was done, and I’ve been putting it off ever since.

Phoenix is an underrated bop. Like, it’s so good, and we should talk about it. I mean it had to grow on me, but it’s really good.

If you can listen to Phoenix without thinking of the Elmo meme, you’re lying.

The ghosts’ part in Move On is sadder than Kate and Annleigh’s part and I stand by that.

I prefer High School Experience to SUAC mainly because I think High School Experience gives Eva more personality.

Speaking of Eva’s personality, she doesn’t fucking have one. Like, she’s not a fleshed out character, and the fandom does do it either so we’re stuck with Eva Sanchez, Kate’s Girlfriend. It’s unfortunate because like Clark, there’s potential in her character.

I also know the SUAC choreo, but I actively tried to learn that.

TIME-OUT, TEAM!

I love that in IDK, Cairo just starts off by roasting Farrah. Iconic.

The Cairo-Annleigh tension is so high all the time. Like, the tension.

Cairo and Kate is a great ship, y’all are just cowards.

And now time for my favorite song, The Breakdown. It’s really just because Riley is my favorite character, but like it’s still good regardless of my bias.

The Breakdown gets me so hype. I’m ready to fight somebody after hearing The Breakdown.

Final Verdict: This musical is really great, and while I’m glad to see it get more recognition, I do think that there are a lot of problems that still need to be addressed in the fandom

An event you were looking forward to that got canceled? my childhood best friend and i were supposed to go on a road trip and to a music festival the week of her graduation. two of my favorite artists were performing and it was going to be so fucking awesome and her graduation was two days after the festival and she’s only allowed to have like 4 or 5 people come for her and she gave me a ticket and i bought a dress for it and i’ve been looking forward to seeing her graduate since we were kids. that week was supposed to be amazing but the music festival and her graduation were both cancelled so not anymore :(

What movies have you watched recently? the spectacular now and its a bit of a cringy rom com but i love how it shows the difficulties of true human connection and even if you’re outgoing and seemingly happy social situations can still be challenging and all that jazz! it’s really hard to watch because some parts hit home but it’s pretty good

favorite instrument(s): Uh I play bass and it’s pretty neat, well technically I don’t play bass, I own one and on occasion I pick it up but it’s cool. I also love watching people play piano, it just looks chill, but it’s not chill, it’s really hard and evidenced by my brother’s practicing all through lockdown.

3: Don’t Stop Believin’ by Journey! This is a bit of a weird one, but when I went to summer camp, we’d always play this one at our every dance, and everyone knew every word and it was so much fun. 

11: Honestly, any song by Sia. I loved her when I was younger, and I still adore her now. She Used To Be Mine from Waitress also has never failed to give me the feels. 

17: My sister and I have gotten really good at a variety of duets, including Let Me Be Your Star from Smash, and Wallflower and Before the Breakdown from We Are The Tigers.

Are you staying home from work/school?

oh yes, my coworkers and i actually got furloughed because our company has essentially shut itself down save some limited online operations, but it does mean we have something to come back to when we can open up? ironically though i was actively looking for other jobs just before we got word our stores were closing until further notice, but i’ll probably be stuck there a bit longer when we do come back haha~

If you’re staying home, who is with you?

i live with my parents, younger sibling and two dogs!

Who would be your ideal quarantine mate?

probably some of my friends or just my dogs. plus i’m painfully single so there’s no potential s/o i’m longing to see.

Are you a homebody?

i’d say mostly! i do like being at home although my parents never leave to go do things so i don’t get to be alone all that often rip so i can do creative things and take some time to myself, although normally i do like to take a day every week to go do something, even if it’s just an early morning breakfast run with my dogs or a trip into the city by myself for a few hours, because i do get restless being at home all the time. (the restlessness is definitely starting to kick in though and i’d gladly just go driving if my tags weren’t expired and the DEQ centers weren’t closed rip)

An event you were looking forward to that got canceled?

luckily nothing yet (so far), although i’m getting nervous i won’t be able to leave the house by this summer and it’s going to really suck if i can’t go anywhere or do anything once it’s finally warm enough out - i’m a californian in oregon, anything under 65 degrees and i’m mf COLD - especially as my birthday is in the middle of july and i was making plans to go somewhere this year...

What movies have you watched recently?

i did a netflix party with my friends on tuesday night and we watched ‘perks of being a wallflower’ for teen nostalgia, and because we couldn’t find a good screenshare app like rabbit to stream the ‘exorcist III’... and this morning i had on ‘anastasia’! i definitely have a queue to get through though and i try not to watch things i haven’t seen before while working on stuff.

What shows are you watching?

i’ve been marathoning SVU on and off for like, six or so months now, as my current mindless crime procedural, i already finished ‘tiger king’, and i just restarted ‘inuyasha’ after years of not seeing it! i’m trying to find a new series to get into though!

What music are you listening to?

a lot of indie, some jrock... i may or not be laying on my porch at night smoking and listening to one direction on blast too though...

What are you reading?

i’ve got a few pages left of ‘smoke gets in your eyes’ and then i’m planning to start holly black’s ‘folk of the air’ series because i love modern fantasy. i’m fighting to not reread her modern faerie tales series - which i’ve read like five times over the last twelve years - or brenna yovanoff’s ‘the replacement’ and ‘the space between’ as i’ve also reread both of those several times, including my last reread being just under a year ago... whoops.

other than that i’m catching up on my manga and trying to find some new horror series!

i need more queer romances and modern fairy tales i guess

What are you doing for self-care?

i ordered some new skincare stuff in hopes my skin will finally stop hating me, and i bought some clay to start making handpainted pins! i’ll probably start playing the piano again, and trying to start cosplay stuff for fall with what few things i have on hand now? i’ve got so many small creative hobbies i want to start but the list of things i need to get done first is really long...

Are you staying home from work/school?

Unfortunately, my job is considered “essential,” so I have to be there, but I am thankful I still have my job and I stay home unless I absolutely have to go out for, like, groceries besides that 

If you’re staying home, who is with you?

It’s just me! I live alone. Sometimes, one of my family members asks to come over though and I don’t have a problem with that as long as they are safe and healthy.

Who would be your ideal quarantine mate?

If I’m allowed to be mushy probably my girlfriend, ha. Also, one of my friends always keeps me company whenever we do hang out and we just can shoot the shit about anything and everything, so that would probably be nice as well. This quarantine is probably also driving them crazy.

Are you a homebody? 

Usually 100% yes. I think this quarantine is getting to me though to be honest and I just want to go out and actually do something by myself or with my friends or my family, but everywhere is closed and I don’t feel safe actually being out there for non-essential reasons, so here I stay. 

An event you were looking forward to that got canceled?

The new My Chem content was something I was really looking forward before it got postponed and for good reason still! There are things coming up for me in July and/or September and I really don’t want to miss out on either of them, so I’m just crossing my fingers at this point. 

What movies have you watched recently?

I honestly have not watched a good movie in a while. It’s usually the comfort movies I have up above.

What shows are you watching? 

Right now, I’m watching Supernatural (I know. I’m sorry. A friend got me into it.) and basically reruns of Impractical Jokers which is, like, one of my comfort shows. Everyone is telling me to try out Tiger King, but it does not look very interesting to me at all. 

What music are you listening to? 

The stuff up above! The new Weeknd and Gambino album has literally been on rotation for me since they both came out especially. 

What are you reading? 

Honestly, nothing. I read paperwork for work related reasons, but unfortunately, that’s it right now. 

What are you doing for self-care?

Cooking/Baking is a huge one for me right now! It kind of takes my mind off of all the shit going on with me and all the shit going on in the world. I pride myself on being a super good cook/baker too so I usually just focus my attention on that when I’m doing it. And, then I end up giving most of it away to my family, ha. Also, watching my shows, listening to music, coming on here, making gifs or whatnot in Photoshop, talking to my girlfriend/family/friends, taking nice, long, hot showers... Those are some!
