hi babes what about a thg hc boys reactions to reader being dom in bed😁
peeta is into it. i headcanon him as a switch but i could also see him being sort of like a service sub — he’s addicted to pleasuring you, so he’ll do whatever you want if it means making you cum. he gets super flustered and turned on when you boss him around.
gale is not super into it. if you really wanted to try it out, he’d humor you, but i don’t think that’s his thing. i headcanon him as very dominant.
finnick is a total switch and would find it really hot when you take control. he’d prefer you be a gentle dom, though, because being too rough/verbally degrading is a lil triggering for him.
coriolanus is complicated. academy!coryo would melt under it. he’s still a virgin, and a dominant woman would fluster and intrigue him. peacekeeper!coryo though…i think he’d let you try it, like gale, and he’d probably like it, but he’d lie and say it wasn’t his thing. politician!coryo might appreciate the chance to let go and follow orders instead of give them..but he’d still be way too prideful to admit that.
sejanus thinks it’s so fucking hot omg. he’s really into switching with you, even within the same sexy moment, battling for who’s in charge. he loves when you manhandle him, when you tease him. he’d be a big fan of you being dominant.

thg characters getting jealous cause someone is flirting with you, like what would their reaction be? ik you did the reader getting jealous already, but i was wondering what it would be like vice versa
-🪷
slight nsfw | mdni
coriolanus - coryo has two reactions okay. he’s either so secure in your devotion to him that he doesn’t care. or he’s so angry that he’s taking you home and showing you just how much you belong to him and him only by fucking you hard and deep.
tigris - tigris would be the type to walk up to you, kiss your cheek and take you away from the person ever so subtly showing that you belong to her. she would do it with a smile on her face.
sejanus - sejanus would furrow his eyebrows and be internally insecure. what if you found that person to be more attractive than him? i don’t think he would react in the moment but when you got home, the two of you would have a conversation and you would have to reassure him that you love him.
finnick - okay so truthfully, i don’t see finnick as the jealous type. i think he would see someone talking to you and he would be amused. and when you guys had alone time, he would ask you about it in a teasing way until he’s like “well, i think i should show you that you’re mine, huh?” with a charming smile on his face. to which leads to him worshipping your body.
johanna - she’s full on jealous and isn’t ashamed. she’ll walk up to you and look at the person and go “they’re mine. go away.” before softly kissing your lips.
peeta - peeta wouldn’t get jealous either. i think he’s a very go with the flow person but also lowkey oblivious. so i don’t think he would notice that someone’s flirting with you. he would just think they’re being friendly.
katniss - katniss would watch the whole thing and then pretend as though it doesn’t bother her. but when she gives you the cold shoulder afterwards, you have to pry it out of her. and then you guys have a conversation about it.

finnick odair x fem!reader
summary: as finnick sneaks back into your cart during the victory tour, you start to pity him as he wraps his arms around you, knowing that this is all for the captiol and none of it is true...at least not for you.
cw: almost one-sided love, katniss and peeta trope, no smut, and lots of crying.
Tumblr media
with how the trains speeds you feel as tho you're flying, laying in your bed with the new weather outside your window. yesterday it was snowing, now it's spring.
the silk bedsheets mold your skin as you lay there, regretful.
a hand snakes under and up to your abdomen, the scent of musk heavy on your nostrils as he pushes himself closer to your back.
he sighs once he has your touch back into his grip and you stay put, hoping he falls back to sleep.
it was a mistake, letting him back into your bed again.
it wasn't like you two did anything..it's just for the nightmares. but still.
he thumbs your shoulder softly, brushing the finger on your body to test your awareness, you feel his eyes on your neck.
once he gets no indication of your conciseness, he dips down to lay a soft, quick kiss on your neck.
it makes you shiver, a little fever sparking in your spine for that moment. it wasn't forced for his own excitement, it was a little good morning for you.
and that just makes it worse.
you pretend to flutter your eyes and he quickly sinks back into the silk sheets. you sit up and drowsily grab a towel before walking towards the bathroom that's connected to your cart.
you eye him as you take tip-toe steps, as if not to wake him. but you catch his lips flashing a soft smile before forcing down into a line.
you sprint into the bathroom and turn on the shower as you feel your chest heavy with breaths. you lock the door and sink down as you choke on air and have tears rush out of your eyes
he loves you
he loves you so much.
your mind brings you back to Annies sobs and pleas for you to return finnick to her, safely. to bring her love back.
I wonder how she felt seeing you brush his hair back in the arena before dipping down to kiss his puffy lips.
I wonder how she felt when 'her love' came home with a new love.
you confessed to him on the train that it was a lie. your love wasn't real and you watched him fight back tears while putting on a sad smile
"it's okay, really"
that's what he told you when you turned to look back out the window of the train car. you knew it wasn't your place but your cloudy mind thought it was a good idea
"fin...um...Annie was talking to me before the games and-"
"please. I don't want to hear anything about annie cresta."
so you both sat in silence as the train brought you back to four.
and now, on your victory tour with the capitol and everyone breathing down your neck, you realize that you will never have a life without odair being next to it.
you can't help but claw at your chest with sobs as the shower spits water at you, because finnick takes this as a chance, a chance for you to love him.
but you would never give yourself that chance
not with that promise you gave to annie.
and not with that vow you gave to yourself.

"He's still smiling when he settles the second on my head, but his eyes, just inches from mine, are as unforgiving as a snake's.
That's when I know that even though both of us would have eaten the berries, I am to blame for having the idea. I'm the instigator. I'm the one to be punished." (THG pg 348)
Snow ignored Lucy Gray's flaws. He looked past them thinking that she belonged to him and therefore it was forgivable. He could look past it by saying she just didn't understand. He rationalized it for her in order to not have to feel he was compromising his own fucked up morals.
But it's the very thing he rats Sejanus out for. He's a part of the rebellion and Snow can't look past it. Both Sejanus and Lucy Gray dislike the Capitol but Snow ignores it for Lucy Gray.
He also pretty much ignores Peeta, the boy who reminds us so much of Lucy Gray. He's a performer, a lover at heart, and more importantly he's just along for the ride.
Katniss is who Snow blames. She's another Sejanus. She's set on tearing down the Captiol and watching it burn. I was just so shocked to find this beautifully reflected back in the original Hunger Games book one.
Suzanne Collins has such a deep understanding of her own material. It's rare to see books hold up so long and even more so to get a good add on to a series years later.
But still you can find a ton of small moments in the original trilogy that hammers home what tbosbas says.

On Peeta, Katniss and the importance of sex in their relationship post-war
The lovely @thepunkpanther asked me to expand on a take I posted as tags to her amazing gifset and I'm finally getting to it. Thank you for being interested!
While I consider the THG movies as one of the best book-to-film adaptations, especially in the YA genre, one of the biggest objections I personally have is the way they showed Peeta and Katniss before the final flash forward. In the books, Katniss makes it quite clear that the "you love me, real or not real?" moment they share is after her and Peeta have sex for the first time. In the movie however, we see them lying in bed fully clothed, while Katniss rests her head on his chest. While the scene is sweet and pure and aesthetically pleasing, I think it takes away a major part of Peeta and Katniss' relationship at that point: that is their physical intimacy and how I personally think sex plays a huge part of their life as survivors.
I say this because during the war, neither Peeta nor Katniss had ever slept with someone and had to exchange the first kisses of their lives in front of the cameras, as a way to win the games and stay alive. As they grow up and the horrors around them become bigger, both of them develop an intimate but not sexual relationship (sleeping together, embracing, holding hands etc) as a coping mechanism and that leads to Katniss in particular being startled when she discovers that her need to touch Peeta can also turn into a "different kind of hunger" meaning of course, sexual desire. When the war ends and she lets Peeta back into her life, she feels desire for him again, despite her horrible traumas, and when the two of them consummate their relationship, away from the cameras where it's nobody but them, she finally lets herself go and tells him she loves him. While these two have to deal with their losses, their guilt, their trauma and nightmares, sex is an entirely new thing in their lives that has no connection to ghosts from the past. It makes them feel closer to each other than they have ever felt before and, because it's an intense physical activity, leaves no room for their minds to wander to unpleasant places. And eventually, it leads to two children and a new hope that the future will be brighter than the past. SO, I truly think the movie should have found a PG-13 way to show that and it'll always bother me a little because Josh and Jen would have killed it.

would you write something for johanna (thg) x fem!reader where the others (like peeta, katniss, finnick etc.) always see the tough sarcastic sides to her, but then they see her around her gf (reader) whos really soft and gentle like opposites of her and they see that shes johannas soft spot? sorry for the terrible english!
Bestie I love this, let's imagine together that district 13 is fine and not run by a crazy bitch alright? LMAO I love writing non-canon for the hunger games people cuz they can all be together and happy :)
Tumblr media
When Johanna and the others were rescued from the capital and we were all reunited, people noticed a difference in her compared to how she was before. She was still herself, witty, with dark humor, beautiful even without her long, silky hair. But there was a new side to her that most people, other than Finnick, never saw.
That's the side that she showed when she's with me.
We met nearly a month after her first games. She was on her victory tour and I was a painter in District two and she would say that I caught her eye from the crowd, so much that she had to find me and ask for my name and an address that she could write to me.
No one would really imagine her as a romantic but damn the girl was good and she swept me off my feet in only a few months. She wrote to me, sure, her last letter coming in right before the quarter quell. When we found out that she would be reaped again and brought back into the place that brought her so much torment- neither of us could comprehend it.
I thought I was never going to see her again.
That was until she had a friend of hers, a peace keeper in my district, sneak me out of my district and into thte capital where I could see her and I did. We spent the night together and that's when she told me about the plan to get Katniss and the others out of the arena. She also informed me of the greatest secret that they were all keeping- Discrict 13 was alive and well and ready to accommodate the pressure and stress of a full revolution.
When I found out that she was taken by the capital, my whole world fell apart. It was probably the only thing that Katniss and I were able to bond over, the fact that our lovers were in the clutches of President Snow and being used as propoganda. It was horrible.
So when it was agreed upon that they would be rescued, I jumped at the opportunity to go with Gale and help them in the process of getting them out of the capital, no matter what it took.
When we finally reunited in the jet, it was like the whole world stopped. As if every piece of me that was missing was finally back in it's right spot, like a missing puzzle piece she was finally back in my arms.
"It's kind of cute that they could do this." Johanna whispers in my ear, watching Finnick and Annie dance around in circles in the middle of a huge, loving crowd. I turn to her with a fond smile and nod, leaning into her the slightest bit as Katniss approaches us with a sarcastic smile on her lips, as always.
"You two look couple-y." She chuckles and I smile, clutching onto Johanna's hand that rests on my thigh and I feel her tense up as if she's taking it personally.
"That's what happens when you're a couple, genius." She snaps with a sarcastic tone and I huff, giving her a gentle bump with my shoulder and she mutters a quiet 'sorry' under her breath.
"I'm just saying, after everything we've been through, it's nice to see you actually act like a nice person." There's a pause for a moment, as if the two of them are finally understanding each other and instead of passive aggression, Johanna responds differently, taking even me off guard.
"Yeah well she brings it out in me like Peeta does with you." My heart warms for a moment as she sends me a small smile, her cheeks blushed in a deep red and her chin dips downward to conceal it.
"That's really sweet actually." Katniss sits beside me with a huff, motioning to the crowds of people in front of us that are cheerfully dancing and singing around the happy couple. "You guys don't dance?"
"I do, she doesn't." I jut my thumb in Johanna's direction but she just laughs and turns to me with an unconvinced look.
"You could convince me but you haven't asked."
"Please dance with me." I nearly immediately beg, standing up out of my chair so I can grab her hands and tug her towards the dancefloor, wanting nothing more than for people to see her happy and loved, especially Finnich given how much he worries for Johanna.
"Yes, ma'am." She sighs and turns to throw a wink at Katniss who just laughs and claps her hands at us.
"Wow, you're whipped."
"Pipe down, Everdeen."

THG Reread Thoughts...I don't know how many I am up too. Sorry XD.
Katniss and both her alliances reresent some kind of rebellion, tbh. Both of them are representing her chooseing love and compassion over obeying the Capitol.
Katniss is SMART. SO much smarter than I remember giving her credit for. She isn't uber, mastermind genius because she is still in actual fact 16. But she was able to form a plan to get a legit leg up on the Careers useing all of her and Rues skills and it works as best it can. And I don't even think ALL of that is how much she is forced to survive. I think Katniss is genuinely a sharp girl.
Mentioned it in the Rue focused post...just the way her death hit me true tears came to my eyes. The unfairness and pain Katniss expereinces took my breath away as an adult whose, this time reading it, has expereince so much more loss.
So the rule change...is interesting. I will always maintain Crane WAS a bit short sighted sanctioning it. Had he thought about the possibility of them actually both living and what that would mean I legit don't think he would have. Whitch speaks to the ambition that festers in the Capitol...they wanted a better show, a love story. To bad that became hope and a rallying cry.
Katniss calling out Peeta's name is such an iconic scene. It shows just how much she has him on her brain the first thing she does is call to him.
Forgot how real Collins got with their injuries. Peeta's leg is something you can't avoid for even a sentence. Katniss's hearing is a constant issue and showing even in a realisic way (as someone who considers herself hard of hearing, this is actually refreshing to see).
Lets talk everlark. I think I will start by saying how early Katniss expression confusion caused by the act they had to preform took me back. We see so much more of that, the constant unsure and confused mess around her emotions, but it does start almost as soon as the act does. Katniss begins to wonder what she is doing because there is something connecting Peeta and her, and what she is doing for the act very early on and importantly, it only gets worse. Lying does this kids, even with the best intentions. And it makes it hurt when you get glimpes of how much Katniss DOES love and care for him.
Katniss instantly suspecting there is some truth to Peetas story about his crush makes me give her sus eyes so hard XD. Like girl you seem very eagar for him to not be totally playing to the camara rn XD.
There moment hunting is SO sweet honestly. And one of the more real moments they got and I love it.
The feast and the medicine scenes shocked with how much they scared me rereading them this time around. For a moment I forgot Thresh spares Katniss, and was genuinely worried for her. Points to Collins for her writing being with rereading in mind! Her storytelling is exciting enough to be captivating upon rereads whitch is AWESOME and not always the case.
Peeta nurseing both him and Katniss back after she's been helping him. Get you a man who will do it like him.
Katniss and her reaction to their first 'real' kiss forgetting she landing a smooch onto his cheek. Yes it was a snarky thing then but still XD. Reguardless it is SO sweet.
'The first time I want another' about this kiss also has been the subject of a lot of back and forth. Reading it now, it is pretty clear to me that yea...Katniss is meant to be expereince SOME kind of desire here. If for nothing else, more closeness.

What do you think would've happened if Peeta and Katniss weren't interrupted by Finnick in the beach scene. How far would they have gone? I get that they're modest but then again they're gonna die. And they're crazy in love?!?!? Tho there's also Katniss not wanting such a special moment to be tainted by the Capitol cameras. Idrk?
Hahahha I’m always on the fence about this, but for sure they were going to take it up a notch. Katniss mentioned how “these kisses don’t satisfy me,” she wanted to do more. But Katniss is pretty modest, she doesn’t like nudity. But she is comfortable showing pda with Peeta, but sex is a pretty big deal. Katniss is pretty inexperienced and “innocent”, so I’m not sure how much she knows beyond your basic how babies are made talk. But I could see Peeta being super respectful, and trying to stop things from going further , going “we shouldn’t , we can’t.” And Katniss like pushing , and he always gives in to her. But not sure about going all the way, but hey the girl you’re madly in love with you wants to do more, and you’re going to die , so what da hell , right lmfao
It is rather telling how Katniss is always vague about the details of they’re kissing , and she mentions this hunger feeling when they actually do have sex when they grew back (imo they do have sex), but is still vague about it. So, yeah it could be that Katniss and Peeta would’ve gone all the way. Or at least fooled around.t girly was hungry to go on that Peeta ride lmfao
Thank you for asking! Hahaha I always enjoy talking about these what if ‘s and other stuff with fellow everlark shippers and thg enthusiasts.

Your headcanons might just be my favorite ever!! Ily!! What about THG headcanons for how they would propose?? Or if you've dine that already, generally your wedding.
omg tysm!! you didn't specify just the guys like ppl usually do so just in case i'm gonna do all the characters i write for!! hope you like it!!
Tumblr media
coryo (politician coryo specifically) would probably plan an elaborate but private proposal - as much he loves to show you off, to bring you to parties and brag about his partner, he does like to keep his vulnerable side hidden from most people, so i think he would want to propose with no prying eyes. he would give you some long, cheesy speech and buy you the finest ring possible.
finnick takes you to the beach he grew up on in district 4, and treats you to a beautiful evening of food and wine, swimming, and then proposes to you by putting the ring in an oyster and telling you to look for the pearl. when you pull out a ring instead, he just grins like a fool and pops the question. he definitely cries when you say yes and just hugs you for what feels like an hour straight.
gale just asks if you want to marry him one day, like it's a totally casual and normal thing to ask out of nowhere. if you say yes, then he'll go get the ring and ask you officially this time, probably in a nice secluded place in the woods.
haymitch does it similarly to gale - just super casual. he strikes me as a "go down to the courthouse and sign the papers" kinda guy when it comes to marriage. if he knows you want something more romantic, though, he'd do his best to plan some kind of dinner to pop the question.
johanna seems like she'd do it super dramatically, but i think she would actually be very romantic about it, but still casual. she takes you out and waits until you arrive back home to ask, in the safety and privacy of your house (and so she can push you back onto the couch for a make out session when you say yes).
katniss has no idea how to propose, i think you might have to do it tbh. she is just not super romantic, or at least, she isn't good at showing it. if she did propose to you, though, she would work her ass off to get you the nicest gift possible and would probably stutter and stumble over her words when she asked. she's a small wedding kinda gal too.
lucy gray would make it a whole big show. she plans a whole fancy day, probably makes you do some kind of scavenger hunt to find your ring, and probably asks you to marry her via a beautiful song. marrying lucy gray means the entire covey is gonna be partying all night long.
peeta is a classic romantic guy, he's gonna take you out to dinner and pop the question on a nice nighttime walk, and give you a whole sappy speech that makes you cry. he is just so genuine and charming about the whole thing.
sejanus is gonna be super nervous to pop the question, and probably overplan a whole fancy night only to end up asking you before his plan starts because you look so good in the outfit he picked out for you that he just blurts it out.
tigris would probably prefer to be proposed to, but if she were to pop the question herself, it would be a very chill and intimate moment. the ring she gives you is probably a family heirloom and she apologizes that it isn't anything fancier, but it is an absolutely beautiful ring and she would also probably make her own wedding dress.

how do u think thg boys feel abt head (both ways)
mdni | nsfw content | fem!reader
okay so first of all, i think all of them love receiving head. i think anyone loves it tbh but let’s seee >:)
coriolanus - i can fully see him being someone, when he first starts having sex, being like “i only receive head, i don’t give it” and then he ends up sleeping with someone who puts him in his place. so the first time he eats someone out, he realizes how much he loves it. and from there on out, he can’t cum unless he makes his partner cum with his tongue. because he’s a natural at giving head so he has to put his talent to good use. so i think he would go from solely wanting to receive it to solely giving. and he’s the type to be reallllll sloppy with eating pussy. it’s fantastic.
sejanus - he’s a giver and a receiver. one of his favorite positions would probably be 69. he wants you both to cum from each other’s mouths at least once. but he would also just randomly eat you out whenever he felt like it too. but the moment you randomly get on your knees for him, he’s ready. he’s like so ready for it.
finnick - very similar to sejanus but i think he would always be ready to give. he just wants you to feel so good and he takes pride in knowing he can get you to cum within seconds. he loves eating you out. but when you suck him off, he’s a moaning and writhing mess. it’s literally just so gorgeous.
peeta - he definitely loves to receive it. don’t get him wrong, he doesn’t mind whatsoever going down on you. but he just loves to sit back as you take his cock in his mouth. it’s legit just one of his favorite things. getting head will always be fantastic for him. but he always makes sure to return the favor if you want him to.

Bestie recent thg reblog got me thinking and I know I’m late to this revelation but Peeta’s stunt with the Bread? The boy is a REBEL since birth?!?!
If I remember correctly Katniss is surprised at him at a few points for being so rebellious - his position in town makes him out to be straight laced - but rebellion is one of his core trait and arguably why Katniss has always liked him.
Peeta’s first encounter with her is a pure rebellion, where he stands to gain nothing, but stands to loose a lot. The only authority in his young life threatens him with violence, but he defies it anyway. Because it’s right. Because we have bread that we’re throwing away, don’t we owe it to the starving girl?
Don’t we owe each other things? Doesn’t it matter?
Something something he’s like Katniss’s father, a rebel when it counts, even when he gets nothing out of it, in the name of kindness, etc. etc.
YES!!!!! he's always been a rebel -- i always also think about the moment in catching fire when she's surprised that he's angry at the capitol party. and it's like my queen, how are you surprised about all this coming from mr. "hold them out i want everyone to see"?? it's another one of his character traits that gets GUTTED in the films, but yeah everything starts with the bread because THE BREAD IS REBELLING. it's going decisively against what his mother is doing (having food to give but feeding it to a pig instead of another person) and thus rebelling not only against his family on a situational level but also against an entire society and system of beliefs (that his mother subscribes to)
so your connection of peeta to katniss' father is extremely apt!! i don't know if i've ever articulated that before, or really even made that connection, but it's true that all katniss' favorite people, all the people she loves the most, are the ones who are not just rebels in *name* but rebels in their actions from the very first moment they're introduced. peeta, her father, haymitch, even rue. (and yes, i would include her mother in that as well -- because her parents are rebels in the fact that they ALSO reject the seam vs. town narrative of twelve. katniss aligns herself with her father in her head but she's similar to her mother in many ways as well -- which is the reason her mother's abandonment hurts her so deeply and scars so permanently.)
what do we owe to each other? what is fair and what is just? what does it mean to owe anything at all? is owing a debt that must be repaid or is it simply owing someone kindness when you have nothing else to give? the hunger games asks a lot of questions about what it means to "owe" someone something, what you can "repay" someone for, what is a "debt" and what we are owed by our society and our social groups simply for being human. for example: if someone saves your life, and you save theirs, can you then extract yourself from the relationship? is there nothing more owed? katniss lives this dilemma out in the first book -- and she can't. peeta even excuses her, saying "you've repaid that debt in full" but she still can't let go. so perhaps owing is not about fairness at all -- it is never a simple calculation, one life saving incident equals one life saving incident back. because you don't *have* to do extraordinary things to deserve kindness. you don't have to save someone's life to earn their love. we aren't owed kindness because of a debt. we are owed kindness because we are human.

one of my least favorite book-to-screen changes in thg is a really specific moment between gale and peeta, where peeta is expressing that they should kill him or at least give him something to do it himself with because he can’t control himself and will be a hindrance to the mission.
in the movie, gale says, “i’ll kill you myself before that happens,” in response to peeta saying he needs a nightlock pill so he can die when he needs to - aka, before he gets triggered and tried to kill katniss again. gale’s response in the movie is obviously and exclusively a confirmation that he will kill peeta if it means protecting katniss. which is true enough to his character, but i think fundamentally misinterprets the scene in mockinjay, the book.
in the book, while it’s true that he’s insistent for a while on them leaving him because he’s a danger, when it’s pointed out to him that people from the capital could find him, he is Terrified of that. he says something like, “maybe you think it’s kinder to just dump me somewhere, but that’s as good as leaving me in the hands of the capital.”
and gale’s response is, “i’ll kill you before that happens. i promise.”
and! in another story, in another world, maybe just in a different interaction in this world, this would maybe be a threat, but this is gale showing peeta a kindness! a morbid one, to be sure, but a kindness all the same. he knows what it is to prefer to die over being trapped in the custody of the capital, knows what they did to peeta, and unlike before, when he was too wrapped up in his rage and grief and anger to see the horrible position peeta was in when filming the capital’s props, he is able to extend him this one courtesy. it’s the “i promise” that really gets me because it’s, again, a very morbid but still real display of comfort, of friendship that’s never really between them but that he is able to display here. (it's also a parallel to earlier in the book, when he callously asks katniss if she wants him to kill a hijacked peeta for her, because even though hijacked peeta is so different from his old self, so cruel in some ways in that moment, it disturbs her that gale would offer this because he's still a person. but in this scene, gale isn't saying this callously or to be cruel or out of jealousy. he is saying it because he understands peeta's fear and knows it's not unfounded.)
and i guess this change maybe bothers me because it speaks to a certain fandom rhetoric (and the promotion of the films didn’t really help on this front) that gale and peeta, like. hate each other when they… just don’t?
don’t get me wrong, there are some mutual resentments between them that we see in catching fire and especially in mockingjay, and katniss is right in saying they’re not friends, with gale criticizing him for the capital propos and a hijacked peeta more obviously displaying a callous kind of jealousy that he’s never quite expressed all that much, at least vocally, before. (the closest he got was in catching fire, when he asked katniss if she really only kissed gale once.)
but also. peeta defends gale at the whipping post, helps to carry him back, and offers to watch him so that katniss can rest. and yes, maybe those are both things he does for katniss (though i would actually argue i think he would’ve helped gale even without katniss there at the whipping post). gale helps peeta and haymitch and katniss train with snares and traps, and after, in what i think is one of the most interesting things to note about their dynamic, laments that “it would be better if he were easier to hate.” and that's the whole goddamn point, isn't it? katniss even laughs and says, "tell me about it," lamenting that she couldn't just hate and discard him in the first arena. peeta includes gale in the locket reminding katniss why she needs to live. gale plays real or not real with peeta, and tells him things about their shared, destroyed District Twelve that he doesn’t really remember. he gets peeta water in the middle of the night since he’s restrained and can't get it for himself.
and he promises to kill peeta before the capital can take him, knowing why peeta would consider that the more merciful thing. he's even the one who eventually does give peeta his own nightlock pill. and peeta expresses concern for him, too, in case he needs it, but gale assures him he's got his own detonating arrows and katniss herself if he needs a quick mercy kill.
and yes, a lot of those things are at least partly for katniss, but the point is also that they’re there, these kindesses are there, that people aren’t simply violent, malicious monsters, the way that the games are intended to convince people of. even between two boys who love the same girl and don’t really know what to do about it, who somewhat resent each other for it, there is still the capacity for kindness, for understanding.
and it just bothers me, i guess, because while those other small moments are important, gale’s promise here is one of the few kindnesses between them that doesn’t really have much to do with katniss - who, even knowing how lost and unstable and potentially dangerous to the mission and she herself is, can’t even pay lip service to the idea that she’ll kill peeta if it comes to it. she shows she could do it if she has to, she almost does when the mutts are approaching and peeta is whispering her name along with them in his sleep -but she can’t provide him the comfort of saying it, wondering privately if it's because she cares about him or because she's using him in her own private Game against Snow - but gale can. and gale does.
and it just bothers me, even though it’s such a small moment, because despite gale and peeta’s many, many differences, it is one of the few moments of genuine understanding and camaraderie we see between them, finally unmarred or complicated by their mutual feelings for katniss.

Hunger Games Book Things That Should Have Been in the Movie!!!
There is sadly a lot of stuff that should have been in The Hunger Games movies but wasn’t and it makes me salty so I am going to make a list lol. Some of the stuff, I understand was likely taken out due to time crunches, but other things there’s simply no excuse except it’s hollywood *eyeroll*
1. Rue and Katniss scenes- they cut out some of their bonding in the movies which took a lot of the tragedy out of her death. Not that it wasn’t super sad in the movies, but we knew more about Rue in the book and we saw her and Katniss bond for much longer. Which in turn made her death so much sadder since we also knew how much Rue reminded Katniss of Prim, how innocent and young Rue was, and how badly Katniss wanted her to win if she didn’t.
2. Peeta and Katniss Cave Scenes- the scenes were in there, but they were kinda weird tbh. Like they made Peeta’s crush on Katniss seem kind of creepy and it was not at all in the book. Also, Peeta was lightening the mood and being funny in the books, and was not in the movie. Both Katniss and Peeta just seemed slightly out of character in the cave scenes.
3. Peeta’s missing leg!!!!- In the books, Peeta loses his leg from health complications from the blood poisoning in the arena! He had a metal prosthetic leg, he was disabled. They took that out of the movie which is disheartening considering the lovely disability representation that could have been there. They could have hired an actor with a missing leg, gave him a realistic prosthetic and hid it under his pants for the beginning of the movie, then had him wear a metal prosthetic for the rest of the series after Peeta’s injury, that would have been amazing! The least they could have done was have Josh be missing a leg! Also, Peeta’s lack of disability made his struggling in the Quarter Quell make less sense, the reason why Peeta was lagging behind a little and needing more assistance was because the boy was missing a leg! I will forever we upset about this lost opportunity due to hollywood’s bullshit.
4. The adorable plant book scene and Peeta carrying Katniss to bed- this was wholesome content that made their relationship so much sweeter and really showed how Katniss did care for Peeta and really did like him. I’m not sure why they took this out, I guess it was a time related thing, but tbh the movies should’ve simply been longer because they butchered the books to make them fit into 2 hours, it is annoying af (there’s been loads of super long like 3 hour movies, THG could have been one of them)! Also the cute rooftop picnic scene when they were in the training center, and them cuddling all night afterwards. No wonder tons of people who only watched the movies think Peeta and Katniss’s relationship is lowkey boring, they took out all of their cute bonding moments outside of the arena!!
5. District 2 scene- The part where Gale and Katniss are together in District 2, they makeout and Gale realizes that Katniss is barely paying attention to him and isn’t that into it. This part was crucial I think! It showed that Katniss did not actually like Gale romantically. It explained why they did not end up together. And this isn’t just a THG movie thing, but I really wish this scene was used to explain Gale and Katniss not ending up together instead of Gale being involved in Prim’s death. This could have very easily been the turning point, where they decided to be platonic. I would have loved it if Gale and Katniss would’ve stayed best friends, maybe Gale would find someone else to pursue romantically and him and Katniss could move on. I think they deserved that.
6. Johanna and Katniss bonding- I really wish we got more of this in the movies, they were roommates in the book! That would have been really easy to throw into the movies to show that they were friends. I like to imagine the two of them stayed in touch after the war :)
7. Peeta and Katniss’s burn scars- There is no excuse for this! This is just hollywood being stupid and thinking they couldn’t put burn scars on Katniss and Peeta because they’d “no longer be cute” or whatever (they did the same thing with Katniss’s body hair, she was clean shaven even while in District 12, which is inaccurate as Katniss hated having her body hair removed). It would not have been hard to include the scars, they’d be more faint too by the end considering that they had all the fancy Capitol technology used on them. All they had to do was use some makeup to add scars to Katniss’s neck, Peeta’s forehead, and both of their hands. Katniss’ hair was shorter after the bombing  because quite a bit of it was melted off, they could have put Jennifer in a choppy, shorter wig to show that. It also could have been a cool way to measure time passing by when they went back to District 12. Katniss’s hair could have grown out throughout the ending scenes to signify the months that passed because the last 10 mins or so of Mockingjay part 2 is super confusing lol. Like Peeta comes back, then all of the sudden Annie sends a photo of her and her like 5-month-old-looking baby just chilling lmao.
8. Haymitch parenting Katniss- As we know, Katniss’s shitty mom leaves her at the end, but in the books it is more clear that Haymitch ends up being the adult in her life that parents her. He makes sure she is eating, taking her medicine, he checks on her to make sure she is okay, he talked to her and gave her information even when she wasn’t responding. He helped Plutarch get her pardoned for killing Coin as he knew exactly why she did it. He went back to District 12 with her to take care of her, and he ended up comforting her a lot in the series (they did have this in the movies too), they even argued like a father and daughter in the books lmao.
9. Katniss’s mental health issues and grief- So many scenes of Katniss’s grief are removed from the movies. She was so emotionally traumatized that she lost the ability to speak for a long time, many nights she’d wake up screaming, and she would wonder the mansion aimlessly and end up in odd little hiding places. She was trying to kill herself after she killed Coin, the poor girl was in absolute mental anguish and I do not think that was accurately shown in the films. She did not brush her hair, change her clothes, or shower for a long time when she went back to District 12. When her and Peeta reunite, she looked sickly and dirty--- enough so that Peeta was sad when he saw her. But, of course, in the film she looked fresh out of a shampoo ad, with flowing, long, not-matted hair.

When do you think Katniss and Peeta developing real romantic feeling toward each other?
Thank you 😊
@everlarkshipper
Well!
Tumblr media
(gif originally saved from tenor, not mine)
In my personal opinion, I think Peeta begins falling for Katniss pretty much exactly when he says he does in the cave (aka, the first day of school when she sang, aka, "from that moment on, I was a goner"). He's not afraid of feelings/doesn't think of them as a weakness the way Katniss is/does, and while they don't officially meet until the day of the Reaping, they're not quite total strangers, either. It's sort of a running joke about small towns that "everybody knows everybody," so even when you aren't close to someone, you still kind of know things about them because you simply can't avoid crossing paths throughout your life.
[For instance: when I was in college, there was this one semester where I'd pass this same guy on my way to class every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday for three+ months. To this day, I don't know his name, I don't know his major, I don't know whether he was coming from a dorm or a class or the library, but I know he had to catch the 11:55 bus, that he liked vanilla protein drinks more than chocolate protein drinks, that he would rather trip over someone than elbow his way past them, that he really liked wearing gray, and that he could jump a bike rack if he wanted to, because I observed all those pieces of information just casually walking past him for that short amount of time even though I had no interest in him. Peeta, by comparison, was interested in Katniss from the get-go and saw her at least five days a week for about a decade, so I think it's safe to assume a lot of the knowledge he surprises her by airing during their discussion with Haymitch (the hunting skills, the good aim, etc.) are things he's picked up on because he's (as he says) "paying attention." ]
Because his dad points Katniss out and tells a story about her mother (and her father, and the baker, which in and of itself is kind of interesting as it can sort of be taken as foreshadowing since it involves two kids from one side of town who grow up together but don't end up together because one of the kids falls in love with a person from the opposite side of town which, ya know, sounds a little G/K/P but I digress), Peeta notices her. But that first notice isn't The Moment™ for him; instead, it's her volunteering (!!!) to get up in front of the class and sing the Valley song that does him in.
And to be honest, while I do understand where people who discount that first day of school thing because "they were just kids" are coming from, I personally think it has to be counted because, as Peeta himself points out, he "noticed just about every girl," but the only one who makes "a lasting impression" is Katniss meaning, in essence, that he sort of tested/examined his feelings for Katniss and realized way before the Games that they were, in fact, strong enough to make him want to try and keep her alive at his own expense in the arena. For him, the romantic feelings are already in place by the time we the readers meet him, and finally getting to know her only strengthens how he feels because a lot of the things he most admires about her (her strength, her bravery, her skill, her stubbornness, her love for her sister, etc.) are all on full display. (Also: he thinks she's funny even if no one else does, and like he tells her in Catching Fire when she's mad at him for laughing after the Johanna-Elevator incident, he basically loves the fact that she's intimidating on the outside and awkward as anything [aka, "pure"] on the inside.)
To me, it's kind of significant that for Peeta, it's emphasized at the end of THG how he's "already there" when it comes to being in love, and that he "[wants] it to be real" in CF when they're parading their fake but-maybe-not-so-fake relationship around, and I firmly believe that the main reason his MJ storyline hurts so much beyond the usual watching-a-favorite-character-be-damaged-by-the-narrative is because his inability to tell the difference between what's real and what isn't is such a perversion of his previously rock-solid love for Katniss. Up until that moment in the series, we the readers and Katniss, and basically all the rest of Panem know that Peeta's feelings for her are real; after what the Capitol does to him, his biggest point of confusion centers on what he feels for Katniss, but even when he doubts what he's seeing/hearing/thinking/feeling, reason still tells him that you don't start off risking a beating for burning bread and go back into a government-sponsored death match for someone you don't love a whole lot.
In Katniss' case I think it's more difficult to pinpoint one exact moment of origin, because she doesn't like to deal with feelings to begin with and is also too practical to take time to sit down and sort out how she feels when there are so many other things to do (and also, a lot of what causes her to fall for Peeta are the smaller, everyday parts of his personality rather than any single grand gesture or one particular moment they share together).
That being said, Katniss is one of the closest approximations to myself that I've ever come across in fiction in terms of how we think/operate, so I personally see a lot of giveaways regarding how/what she thinks of Peeta and how that shifts over time. And to me, the closest thing to an official Romantic Feels Are Sparking moment is the moment in the cave when she starts to wonder if he's a really, really, really good actor, or if what he's telling her is maybe based in truth.
One of the things I've noticed over time during HG discussions is that a lot of people seem to either not fully understand or to gloss over Katniss' practicality, which is a huge part of who she is and how she makes her decisions (including romantic ones). Like she says herself several times throughout the series, Katniss is focused predominantly on survival for most of her life. That's it. She doesn't go for things like music, ribbons, pets, etc., because they're not useful, and to her, romantic relationships also fall in that category because they carry an inherent risk with them in a world where children born outside the wealthy Capitol are in danger of starving to death or getting sent to the Games, and loving and losing someone has the potential to make you fall apart. Due to everything she's gone through in life (losing her father, being essentially forced to take his place, etc.) , she's become self-sufficient and distrustful, and also extremely good at compartmentalizing her feelings (with the sometimes exception of anger). From the second she volunteers for Prim, her focus is on how to maximize her chances of survival; while she knows her odds aren't good, she's too much of a fighter to go down without swinging, and when she sees ways in which she can improve her chances, she goes after them to the best of her ability.
Enter: Peeta, the boy she feels indebted to but has never interacted with even once, who she is now competing with for survival.
Also enter: complicated feelings Katniss very much does not want to deal with because they are a distraction from her current goal of survival.
While it's definitely tempting to make headcanons about how Katniss also maybe had feelings for Peeta prior to the Games because she "[keeps] track of the boy with the bread," I think the important takeaway is: no romantic feelings exist on Katniss' side, but the potential for feelings might...it's just complicated by the Games, because Katniss is so focused on staying alive that she's constantly on guard and keeps misinterpreting his actions as some sneaky, crafty plan when he's actually just being kind. So, even when he catches her off guard and makes her laugh/she finds herself not totally hating hanging out with him, she has to immediately nip all that in the bud because she knows that her survival will ultimately come at the cost of his death, and it's an ugly reality that's much easier to face if she doesn't like him, or at least doesn't know him, than it will be if they become friends and she has to kill him/watch him die/mourn his loss (basically, the whole insidiousness principle of the Games: it forces you into dehumanizing your competitors to save yourself, which will ultimately take a horrible toll on you no matter what).
Although Katniss is inclined to like him, she is also massively confused by him because he keeps behaving in ways that are contradictory to all sense and reason ("He's very hard to predict, which might be interesting under different circumstances, but at the moment only provides another obstacle"), so she's constantly sifting through information until basically, only three explanations for what he's doing remain:
He's trying to survive and jumping at anything that will heighten his chance of that no matter how ruthless (aka pretending to be nice so he can eliminate her later, joining the careers, etc.)
He's genuinely kind but also genuinely trying to survive and is just acting for sponsors
He's telling the truth and really does like her
The trouble is, if you run all those reasons through the logic filter, the answer that seems the most likely is #2, because in Katniss' mind, it doesn't make sense that he'd help her as much as he does if he were just trying to kill her, but it also doesn't make sense that he'd do everything he does because he loves her since she doesn't even understand why anyone outside of her mother and sister would like her. So in essence, every time Peeta sort of tips his hand about how he really feels, Katniss notices it, but is able to find a logical explanation for it/dismiss it as strategy until that one moment in the cave when she realizes he's telling her some things that have a basis in reality, which would imply that everything he's been saying about liking her but her not knowing he was alive is true. And that time when they kiss, she feels something that A) gets the blood pumping in her cut enough to make Peeta stop it all, and B) sticks in her mind enough that she mentions it again in connection with the beach kiss(es) in CF.
Anyways. This is super-duper wordy, so for purposes of succinctness, I have also provided a quick photo summary of my arguments regarding when Katniss first began having real romantic feelings toward Peeta:
Tumblr media
Everything is then (of course) further complicated by Snow and the Capitol, plus Peeta learning that Katniss was under the impression that the Star-Crossed Lovers story was a survival strategy, but the important thing to remember in my opinion is that Katniss explicitly states at both the end of THG and the beginning of CF that she is not sure how much of what she does in the 74th Games is an act, because those little moments in the cave feel real (coughcough), while most of the rest can be written off as planned pageantry.
Thanks for the ask, and sorry for the longwinded response! 😘

What's your favorite character from all across THG trilogy & TBOSAS?
Why do you like this character?
Favorite quote or moment from them?
Please state one (or more) thing which you don't like from them.
Thank you 😊
@curiousthg / @curiousnonny
My favorite character from all across THG trilogy and TBOSAS is Peeta (followed closely by Lucy Gray).
I love his kindness (listen, like Katniss, I'm a sucker for kind people and characters, they are my favorite) and compassion and his sense humor and his charisma. I also love how he manipulate the Capitole ("If it weren't for the baby" will forever be iconic in my eyes). Also, the fact that he is the "dandelion in the spring" he is essentially hope for Katniss is something that can be so personal actually.
This isn't really about him necessarily but I also love how in the first read of the first book, how we have no idea if he is just a kind person or if he is playing the game because of Katniss's unreliable narration, I think that's so fun both as a first read and in retrospective.
My favorite quote is probably: “I don’t know how to say it exactly. Only…I want to die as myself. Does that make any sense?” he asks. I shake my head. How could he die as anyone but himself? “I don’t want them to change me in there. Turn me into some kind of monster that I’m not.” Listen, it is both heartbreaking that the Capitol sorta does manage to do exactly that for a time (although I would argue, the Capitol doesn't really succeed completely, because at the end of the day, Peeta is still Peeta, the dandelion in the spring), It is one of the most important quote of the series, it's what Katniss live by through the end of it and it's just so good.
My favorite moment is sorta off-page, it's when he painted Rue as a way to rebel against the Gamemakers (and also as a way to hold them accountable for her death). It's great.
One thing I don't really like....Well there is three things I could talk about,
I think, like a lot of people, I don't really like the conversation he and Gale have in Mockinjay while Katniss is pretending to be asleep but that's a criticism of the book rather than him (in my opinion).
So the first thing I actually dislike is his reaction at the end of book 1; while I think it was well-written and in-character and his feelings are absolutely valid, I do think he was a bit unfair to Katniss.
The second thing is that: I know it's because Katniss is not a good actress but I also wish he had warned her in advance about the baby bombshell. Again I think he had the idea really close to the show but still, it's her body, it kinda made me uncomfortable for her.
Hope that answer your questions ? Thank you for ask, that was so fun.
