blurry mighty nein + text posts (ii)
Fjord: Me, swimming: “I love this!” Me, when seaweed touches my foot: “I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory.”
Yasha: I wish all lesbians an ancient weapon that can cut through anything.
Jester: Villains are fine when they kill people. I draw the line at being horrific parents, though.
Caleb: I’m an over-thinker, so if you don’t give me an answer, I’ll come up with one.
Beau: Sorry I didn’t “complete my obligations,” I was busy having gay little thoughts and ideas.
Veth: Normalize not making sense. I’ve never had one (1) coherent thought in my life. Fantastic.
Caduceus: “Stewing in rage,” “stewing in agony”—why don’t you try stewing in some warm chicken lime broth with spices and vegetables.

Also, would you be so kind as to write a little something about Caleb and/or Vax slow dancing with their s/o? Whether they’re at a party or a rooftop date or just being soft? However you see fit! And huge emphasis on the “and/or.” I’ll love whatever you choose to write :)
Thanks

Sorry for the wait! Things have been crazy. I went for Caleb here but got inspired to write a bit for Vax too so I'll post that one later. 😘
Caleb watches as you move across the dance floor of the tavern, spinning, twisting and turning, moving along the happy beat of the music. You find yourself dancing with most of the Nein while he sits at the table nursing his drink with a smile on his face. It’s good to see you so happy and unburdened by all the troubles of the world, even if just for a little while. You deserve a break.
You excuse yourself from your half orc dance partner claiming you need a break. This is all a lie of course because you’ve seen the hopeless looks Jester has been sending you. While you step away you give her a wink, allowing her to take your place and ask Fjord to dance for herself. Of course the man says yes but the excited cleric has pulled him into the dance before he gets the reply out. With a shake of your head you walk over to the table Caleb has been sitting at all night, throwing yourself onto the chair next to him. Caleb raises his cup at you acknowledging your presence.
“Another successful adventure. Reward acquired. Everyone is in a good mood. There’s music and dancing and every reason to party.” You sum up turning in your seat to face Caleb, leaning your tilted head on your fist. Caleb stares at you blankly.
“So?” Caleb asks feeling there’s a reason for your words other than stating the obvious.
“So, why are you cooped up in this corner watching the party from a distance drinking alone?” Caleb had been fully content doing just that and not participating. Reminders of the past are something he’d rather not divulge in without a decent buzz going on to distract him. And he’s certainly not nearly deep enough in his cups to deal with an interrogation.
“I’m not much of a dancer.” He speaks but your retort follows quickly after.
“Bullshit. I’ve seen you dance. You may have been plenty drunk but those were not the steps of drunken fool feeling the beat of the music.” Okay, Caleb should have known you’d have picked up on that one. He doesn’t even really know why he tried to lie. He could just have said he wasn’t in the mood and be done with it. Go back to wallowing in self pity.
“Then what do you want me to say?” Caleb asks. He’s not sure if he just wants to tell you what you want to hear be that to make you happy or get you off his back on this. Probably the first…
“Caleb, I love you but please don’t torture yourself. If you want to stay here I’ll stay with you. If you want to leave, I’ll join you. And if you wish to dance, I won’t deny that would make me very happy, I understand if you don’t and I won’t pester you.” Caleb gives you a brief sad smile taking your hand in his free one under the table giving it a light squeeze as he sips his drink. A realisation hits. Oh. You get it now. A brief nod and closing of your eyes makes Caleb tilt his head at you in question.
“This is because of her, isn’t it?” Caleb knows exactly who you’re referring to. It had taken him a while to open up about those specific parts of his past but in the end he did. It was your right to know back then as much as it is now. Still he may keep certain details to himself but you’re clever enough to fill in the gaps. You get up, pulling his hand gently when you’re on your feet.
“Dance with me, Caleb?” You ask and his lips go dry, breath catching in his throat as he looks around the room. His eyes find yours and he finds himself focus on just you. There’s a calmness and sense of security when he takes you in awaiting his answer with patience and a smile. Caleb knows you’re trying to help him. That’s a good thing and he’ll be forever grateful for your generosity and acceptance, but most of all for your unconditional love. Maybe it is time to move on. Not forget. Not replace. But move on. Don’t let the pains of the past stain new memories made. With your hand in his, he’ll be able to do the things he enjoyed doing without constantly being reminded of the past.
You await an answer but none comes. Still you wait. You’re patient and not every decision needs to be made in a hurry. There’s no shame in either answer and you certainly won’t think any less of Caleb if he says no. When you’re sure he’s about to tell you he’s fine where he is, Caleb gets up and steps past you, gently guiding you along to the dance floor. The pride in your face makes it all worth it. The smile reaches his eyes and he bows. You return the bow as you join the twisting and twirling couples. You’re mindful of the more drunken ones but Caleb quickly finds himself take the lead in your dance, following one step after another with more grace and practiced precision than the one before as if falling back into an old routine.
How he’s missed this. Caleb never thought he could dance again without some sense of regret or discomfort in the pit of his stomach but that’s all gone. The warmth of your hand in his, the gentle squeeze of the one on his shoulder signalling him there’s another less practiced or intoxicated couple about to bump into the both of you, you notice over his shoulder, or you steer him clear taking the lead for just a moment, and then always a moment longer. There’s something so comforting about the closeness he can’t quite describe but he can’t remember experiencing that feeling with the others in the past. It seems something so distinctly you and very much something he can get used to.
The dance comes to an end. You bow to each other, Caleb holding on to your hand pressing a kiss to the back of it in a brief moment of courage and carelessness for who might see. The absolute joy and love written across your face make it all the more worth it. The song transitions into the next one and you half expect Caleb to have had his fill for the night but before you know it you’re swept up into another dance. And another after that and so on until the band grows sick of playing songs. Caleb is making up for a little over a decade of missed time and you wholeheartedly consent to catching up on that lost time.
You still find yourselves gently swaying to the echoes of song when everyone has gone to bed or found a decent chair or table to fall asleep on, be that out of exhaustion or drunken stupor you don’t know. Your limbs ache but neither you nor Caleb care instead just enjoying the company and dancing the night away until morning comes and Beauregard sees the two of you, about to head off for her morning run. She gives you a look making a comment about how disgustingly lovesick you two are before she leaves, the light bleeding through the door she exits through, signalling to you that dawn has come.
“We should probably head to bed.” Caleb comments, exhaustion in his eyes mimicking yours while you repress a yawn.
“That would be the smart decision wouldn’t it? Thank Pelor we’re free today because I don’t think I’ll be able to get up once I find a comfy place to crash.” Caleb couldn’t agree more as you do one last spin towards the stairs, holding your hand towards the wizard and you make your way upstairs and into your room. You both kick off your shoes, Caleb the first to crash onto the bed and closes his eyes as you follow. He feels your fingers brush his cheek, peaking to see your face above his.
“Thank you for dancing with me tonight, Caleb. I really enjoyed myself.” Caleb leans up on his elbows, allowing you to press your lips to his, your thanks very much accepted. A tug on your arm throws you off balance and down onto the bed right at Caleb’s side. Before you know it you’re pulled into a warm embrace you’re more than happy to return, the final rustling of adjusting blankets and levelled breathing lulling you to sleep yourself.

All this “Fjorester came out of nowhere” nonsense has gotten me thinking about how, while it OBVIOUSLY didn’t come from nowhere and has in fact been building up to this for a while, there does seem to be a new sense of speed to it that wasn’t quite there before.
I think that, Travis and Laura being the amazing role players that they are, this is all based around a lot of little canon things that have been slowly but steadily adding up. So let me list a few:
Fjord going paladin: I think it’s fair to say that this class change has had a major impact on Fjord. First of all, Jester was his biggest supporter from day one and the kiln talk clearly motivated him to let go of Uk’otoa and risk everything to pick his own path. And ever since then, since that “check in [Fjord] needed” in his own words, he’s been far more open about who he truly is and what he wants and how much he loves his friends. This has, also, clearly translated in him being more open and vocal on how much he appreciates Jester. Like, remember Travis made a direct correlation to Fjord losing his powers momentarily to him realizing how much her constant support meant to him in comparison, something he had maybe taken for granted and suddenly realized was the rock he could lean on. By the time they were about to leave ti Traveler Con, he was already pushing forth tentatively with things like asking her in a casual date night at the chateau.
The build up to Traveler Con: we got to see Fjord increasingly worrying about Jester’s relationship with The Traveler. There was some jealousy in his reactions even before (“He’s not THAT handsome”) but there was also the fear that he would somehow harm Jester in the process. Add to that his confession to Beau thy for a while he worried that TC would mean the end of the M9 and you get a mindset where Fjord has clearly been pondering about the possibility of losing said constancy and support in a blink (wouldn’t be the first time for him to lose a home in a violent way).
Fjord died: sadly they haven’t talked much about it in canon but, like, Fjord literally died. And that puts things into perspective. I don’t think that his admitting to Jester he’s “actually enjoying” her physical search for the orb in his abs right after he died is a coincidence. I mean, if you could die at any given moment because you forgot to be ever vigilant at sea, that puts a lot of things into context and makes you bolder to take some risks and grasp life and happiness wherever you can.
Fjord’s death affected Jester too: I mean, it isn’t just the way he’s dealing with it but she also had to see him dead, she was present and anxious during the resurrection and visibly shaken through the whole thing, even as they pulled the orb out (which you could see she wanted to do herself before Cad stepped up). It puts things in perspective for her, too, how close she was to losing her closest and oldest friend aside from her god.
Jester has been going through a lot: and while that was definitely a deterrent for either of them to properly make an romantic advance, it was also the catalyst for him to be there for her, just like Jester was very vocally supportive of him during the pirate and the paladin arcs. These two, by their own definition since ep 3, look after each other. So she going through a rough spot with her god and confidence has definitely been a catalyst for Fjord to step up his game and offer the same steadiness he’s received on her end.
Fjord just found out he’s not the sole competitor: Beau really helped open Fjord’s eyes to the fact that Jester’s attractiveness and magnetism aren’t something exclusive to him. Others notice. Others see her like that. Of course they do. For the first time, maybe, Fjord’s insecurities are contrasted with the urgency of knowing his reluctance or lack of action could make him lose his chance with her. If he truly wants and hopes for more, he needs to get over his fear and take action.
Words have power: there’s just something about Fjord finally admitting his feelings out loud to Beau (as much as he danced around them) that makes them more tangible for him. You can see it during the hex thing and after, in Nicodranas and in Rexxentrum. It’s like, since he has admitted it to his friend, he can no longer lie to himself either. He has finally accepted there’s something there that, until now, was left unspoken.
Jester is heading to a better place: with Traveler Con left behind, she doesn’t have so much on her plate and with the pressure gone she is finally open to let others in, to be more vulnerable, to re-evaluate her relationships with herself and others and take stock of what (and who!) she wants. Jester telling her mother that by the end of TC she realized what is truly important to her, when we literally saw her hesitate between Artagan and Fjord and later said she was glad Fjord was hanging on to her, is a huge indicator of where her intentions might be heading.
So, to sum up. Fjord is in a better place, has been reassured that their relationship is a long term thing he can hold on to and has a growing sense of urgency with the realization that “life is short”. So, of course he’s being more vocal and present and forward in the affections he’s been harboring for a while. Meanwhile, Jester is too in a better (though not yet ideal) place, learning to open herself up to others that love her and reevaluating the importance of her relationships to both her oldest friend and her newer ones.
They are both in a place where moving forward feels exciting and necessary. There’s a sense of rush and excitement to them, as they finally take steps to figure this out. The past three weeks for them —leading to Rumblecusp (with Fjord’s dead), building up to Traveler Con (with Jester’s vulnerability) and the mess of the final event (both of them faced with some of their worst fears)— have been intense and brining with raw emotion. Of course it feels like everything is moving fast. It is. That’s the point. So are they, and that’s the beauty of it.

Things that Mean More on a second watch-through of C2
Episode 8-10
"He burned alive in front of me" "Yeah you did that though" this is why I love Beau
Caleb identifying all the things and then not telling them what it is makes a first appearance! It's so clear here how little he trusts them, even as he jokes with Beau 'you look like a nerd' and Fjord 'yeah those manacles just stop you from being gassy"
Fjord snaps Beau's goggles almost immediately upon her acquiring them. so what I'm saying is that they've always had that sibling energy
Caleb purposefully manipulates Jester by giving her the wand--to distract her from the glove of blasting...too bad Beau is on the case.
Beau says she's getting her own room, and Jester says they've always been roommates...this is also the night Beau tucks her in, so....THIS IS IN EPISODE 8 PEOPLE
Jester extorting the starosta for Fjord's letter is still Incredible, as is the first appearance of "Fjord Tough." I still lost it with the rest of the table.
Caleb didn't have to roll a wisdom save after he incinerated the bandit leader because he was immediately knocked unconscious, but Liam makes up for it with the nightmare he has afterward (take them out, take them out!) LOVE ME SOME ANGSTY WIZARD
I already made a post about this, but I feel compelled to remind everyone that the shady guide they meet when they first get to Zadash is the abandoned business partner of Lawrence, Tary's husband.
First appearance of Pumat Sol! I love how much the cast love's Matt's voices
"Unpleasant one, let's go" "obnoxious one, I'm with ya" Molly and Beau are so good you guys
"There are those who believe [tieflings] are the result of the Curse of Ghor Dranas" cool world-building Matt!
"The Apple Tree Learning Center" is a soltryce-run 'public school' for children and adults...who wants to bet it was a similar school that discovered the blumentrio? Or at least encouraged them to apply
the first time Caleb transcribed a spell (unseen servant) he IMMEDIATELY invited Nott to help him. And Nott, though dismayed that it was going to take 2 hours, was willing to help out.
"What are you doing with my cat?" Molly won't be able to see through Frumpkin's eyes, but he's got the spirit
"When you compliment people it sounds like a fucking insult," Fjord and Beau are GREAT
Maye one reason we have a dim view of the Empire is because our first plot line in Zadash involved corrupt politicians...not to mention Caleb's whole Thing
First mention of the Cerberus Assembly: general complaints that they're grabbing for power and influence in Zadash and beyond.
Nott being afraid of the bath :( "a person could drown in that"
I legitimately forgot how much they treated Nott like a kid...from the swimming lesson, 'you'll get a sticker'
Caleb is SUPER paranoid, asking everyone how they feel about the Empire and sounding out these new party members. Funnily enough, it's Molly who is most on his wavelength as far as keeping a low profile goes
Yasha really didn't want to confess which god she followed to the rest of the Nein, but when pressed said, "he pulled me out of what felt like literally the depths of hell. I owe him my life." this is without even remembering Obann or what he did.
The contrast between early Beau/Yasha 'do I get a good view" 'roll for perv' and later Softness is...a lot
Caleb and Yasha bond over not doing the hugging thing
Nott LEANS AWAY after asking how dangerous the sewer job is going to be. She is Not On Board for risking her life the way the others are--not even for 700 gold.
'you kicked his cat into oblivion!' "I didn't!" Matt doesn't often distance himself from his NPCs, but when he does it's for animal cruelty and bad parenting.
Jester talking about her visit with the Traveler in the Pillow Trove is...Relevant. It's kind of crazy how early the line was drawn between Fjord and Beau not trusting him and Caleb being quick to prop up Jester's faith, "there are stories that tell of gods dabbling with mortals, not often but it does happen." whereas Beau says, "I'm interested in a god who kicks it with mortals. Never heard of that."
Caleb not wanting to get a new jacket because he knows this one is big autism feels (even if it is also his paranoia talking)
"she does see hamster unicorns. they're gods, right?" "No Beau they're just--they're just unicorns" I love them
"I've never been in a sewer" Molly says, excitedly, and also making me Feel Things
the evolution of Yasha's voice is really cute. we stan 1 Ashley Johnson
I think I was still listening to the podcast at this point so I totally missed all of the It jokes Liam did in the sewer job
Nott sees everyone getting ready to fight and takes a drink. It is interesting to keep track of her drinking, knowing everything we know now.
rat punching, the pasttime of lvl 3 adventurers.
Yasha, to Caleb: "are you very scared right now"
Caleb: "no because I am with all of you"
Nott: "I'm very scared right now"
Caleb advocating for looting the guards the spider killed is #vultureculture
It gets overlooked in later episodes, but 10 was when Nott's button collecting really took off.
They meet the Zadash Lawmaster Orentha and Nott immediately says, "she seems nice. I wonder why all those people wanted to rebel against her." if that doesn't sum up the themes of this campaign idk what does
Nott says, "and now we never have to do another adventure again" she's come so far
Caleb is VERY transactional after this fight, handing out loot for favors and goodwill with individual party members rather than splitting the loot.
This leads directly to Molly pinning him to the wall, which in retrospect was definitely a play for authority and dominance and not anything shippy.
Caleb straight up says to Fjord, "I don't trust you yet. I don't trust any of these people yet."
That whole conversation is actually Very Good:
Fjord: "That's too bad"
Caleb: "yeah I have...I have made mistakes in my life. And, I'm, I have harmed people. Not in a long time. *clears throat* you know I thought I was going to be something, someday, a long time ago, and now I. Don't."
"We've all harmed people, and I hope you come to trust me in time" this is why I ship widofjord (emphasis mine)
Nott going through Fjord's stuff is also this episode! Such shady motherfuckers
"If the money's right and it's not stupid" is a good philosophy for this group
"Your cat got kicked into another dimension?!" "Oh he had such a face, I will never forget this face"
They have fireflies in Kamordah and not Nicodranas. Canon.

Critical Role Character Study Songs - Yasha//Combo Songs
(all songs taken from my 2008 ipod that has not been updated in literal years)
First off a thousand apologies to Yasha that she only gets to individual songs...I genuinely just could not find a lot of songs on my ipod that fit her well; blame my music tastes.
YASHA
“I don’t know if you can hear me/I don’t know if you would listen to a gypsy’s prayer,”
God Help the Outcasts (Hunchback of Notre Dam) -  While I could also see this applying to Jester, I felt it fit better with Yasha. Something about the sad, simple request in the song, the denial for anything for themselves while asking for their loved ones and those turned away from society just screamed Yasha, and also reminded me of how Yasha interacts with the Stormgod.
“I’m standing in the sleet and rain/don’t think I’m ever going to make it home again,”
Wheel in the Sky (Journey)- Look I can’t exactly describe eloquently why this is a Yasha song, but it’s a Yasha song; especially the references to where she doesn’t really know where or what tomorrow will bring
COMBO SONGS
“I’m running out of time/I really thought you were on my side,”
Don’t Let Me Down (Chainsmokers)- Fjord (when worried about Uk’otoa) or Yasha (when possessed)
“Funny, one small part I never knew/with everything to win/the only thing I lose is you,”
Everything to Win (Anastasia)- a couple of them:
Essek when he realizes he actually likes the Nein,
the group when dealing with the hag and Beau’s deal;
Caleb when acknowledging that turning Nott back might mean the end of her time with the group
“I know you hear me now/we are a different kind/we can do anything,”
Heroes (Alesso)- Jester/Mollymauk; While the others tend to take a more cynical and pessimistic view of their role in everything and the type of people they are, I feel like Jester would relate to this song - while they work undercover a lot and aren’t welcome in, well, a lot of places, they’re a skilled and powerful group in the position to do a lot of good, and Jester would want to try and do that; Mollymauk’s whole “leave everyplace better” also is reminiscent in the lyrics.
“I know that greatness lies in you/but remember from here on in/history has it’s eyes on you,”
History Has It’s Eyes on You (Hamilton)- Beau, Fjord; Out of everyone, I feel like these two carry the burden sung about in this song the most. Beau, as an expositor and increasingly their spokesperson, was instrumental in  their attempts to negotiate for the end to the war and Fjord as a generally conscientious person is aware how much their actions can have consequences and effect others, and after his own struggle with Uk’otoa is very wary about this.
“You never knew how wonderful/that smile could make someone feel//but we’re a million worlds apart/and I don’t know how I would even start,”
If I Could Tell Her (Dear Evan Hansen)- Beau, Caleb, Fjord about Jester; Look if this song doesn’t accurately sum up all three of these fools’ lovestruck thoughts about Jester who they all perceive as way out of their league, than nothing does.
“He will never be part of us//and we know that he’ll never be part of us,”
One of Us (Lion King II) - all of them at one point tbh plus Essek; They all felt like outcasts at one point or another but this song particularly reminded me of Essek’s feelings of rejection from being a young prodigy and a non-consecrated one at that.
“She’s a trusting soul/she put her trust in you//tell her everything you feel,”
Tell Her About It (Billy Joel)- Nott to Beau (or Fjord) about Jester; Look, I’m just saying that at some point Nott’s preference for meddling and her knowledge about Beau’s crush is going to come up during role play. Sam is just biding his time.
“Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing/who can live without it/I ask in all honesty,”
Thank You for the Music (ABBA)- Cad or Jester to Wildmother/Traveler; This song is about thanking an unnamed power about music, but it could just as easily be about the abilities granted to them through their deities. I feel its more applicable to Jester, and her unique relationship with the Traveler, but I wanted to include Cad in there.
“I rose up from the dead/I do it all the time//I don’t like your little games/don’t like your titled stage,”
Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor Swift)- Yasha when raging; Jester when she tricked the Hag to save Nott and Beau and the whole damn peace effort.
Admittedly not on my iPod but I wanted an additional song for Yasha’s raging and Jester tricking the Hag moment deserved it
“Give them an act with lots of flash in it//and they’ll never catch wise,”
Razzle Dazzle (Chicago)- Jester (and Mollymauk?); A lot of Jester’s fun comes through trickery and loud, bedazzled statements; she is loud and charming in a disarming way and unapologetic about it because she knows theres a strength in it and it is who she is. She uses her charm to get everyone to let their guards on - and sometimes (like the hag or Essek) that turns out its own kind of deadly for them.  Mollymauk was skilled bs-er who was always ready with some sort of wild backstory or distraction to keep information close to his chest

MAZM SPOILERS(!!) I finally made it to “A Monster Story” in ch. 4 of the mazm poto game (captioned the screenshots above so you can see the dialogue), and wow, WOW, I did not expect the complex, angsty and “problematic” pharoga these game devs unleashed. Like, full stop mazm!Erik somehow makes Lerik look like an upstanding citizen of society and I sincerely wondered at multiple points what the devs were smoking whenever they try to make you feel for him because like, it’s hard guys, if you’re playing, you know it is hard.
That said, given mazmeriks’ fantastic track record as a person, I was 99% sure the daroga would also be given some weird backstory like, IDK, Erik killed his wife or kidnapped his children or framed him for murder, and this is why he came after him in Paris, for some justifiable burning vengeance. But then, they slammed me with their borderline pharoga fanfic and like WHOA mazm devs, if you’re out there, I just want to say “thank you”
Also, as a bonus, falling into the torture chamber suddenly made Raoul super perceptive, gaining him +400 IQ points:
Tumblr media
Raoul: “You were the one who broke Erik beyond repair. Not [the] Shah but you!”
And Raoul’s like, right!? I actually think this is the first time I’ve seen an “adaptation” make the daroga shoulder some blame for the rosy hours, and not just in a “I didn’t see that Erik was so bad TM so I feel guilty” way. Like, he admits that even though he knew the Shah was physically and mentally abusing Erik, he didn’t do anything because he personally wanted to keep Erik by his side. He also knew Erik was a horribly abused person with no concept of morality, but instead of teaching him and trying to give the guy a conscience, Hatim pretended nothing was wrong because he thought Erik would leave him if he knew just how evil his work was. Some people might interpret this as the game switching the blame of Erik’s actions from himself to Hatim, but that’s not how it came off to me--if anything, they were both in a pretty helpless situation and directly mirrored/enabled each other because they had little other options
I have the screenshots, but not throwing them here because I’m still reeling OMG. Raoul called him out like 5x for enabling everyone else’s crimes and making Erik’s mental state worse. And just like Erik, Hatim goes, “No! How dare you judge me! It’s not my fault- I was doing it for Erik! Society ruined him, not me.”
Raoul: “But you were society!” Hatim: SHUT UP
Anyway, it’s just so complex omg. Hatim genuinely cared about Erik from day one, but his affection lead to a lot of bad choices and you can even argue that it was a selfish love. At this point in the game at least, he’s also unwilling to acknowledge his own faults when it comes to Erik.
Hatim: But now Erik’s become a true monster. Maybe he had it in him all along. Maybe it was the Shah, maybe it was- Raoul: it was you, bro
So to sum up mazm’s backstory for them:
Per canon, Hatim hears about a deformed person with abilities and goes looking for this guy
Daroga buys a boy from the circus, pictured above. He buys him. And Erik cries because he’s so glad to be free (top 10 pictures taken before disaster)
DAROGA NAMES ERIK. HE NAMES ERIK. This brings a whole new meaning to all the “My Erik” lines from the book
Erik makes weapons, death traps, etc. for the Shah, but when the Shah’s military plans don’t work out, all the weapon engineers are killed(if I remember right), and Hatim gets Erik demoted to “jester” to save his life
Shah and co. violently humiliate and exploit Erik on a daily basis
Erik makes torture chambers for the Shah’s entertainment
Hatim doesn’t tell Erik what the Shah is doing is wrong or that what the Shah does for entertainment is wrong because he wants Erik to stay in Persia (with him)
Hatim is happy that Erik trusts him and likes him better than the Shah
Hatim spoils Erik and gives him everything he wants, while still turning a blind eye to the Shah’s abuse/amusements, because he just really wants Erik by his side
According to Hatim and the game bios, Erik wanted him to be a father figure even though they are only 6 years apart (so what I’m getting is that Erik tried to call him “daddy” at some point???)
Literally 10 years later, Hatim thinks Erik will be in danger if he stays in Persia so he frames Erik for murder LMAO
The Shah orders Hatim to execute Erik, to Hatim’s surprise since he totally didn’t see execution coming
Per canon, Hatim helps Erik flee and gets exiled for his efforts
Hatim flees to France and now knows Erik is a danger to the opera house
The whole time, Hatim claims his main concern was Erik’s well-being and happiness but Raoul had serious doubts
Hatim refuses to listen to Raoul’s callouts
^That is so much to unpack, that is a whole suitcase, a 100K darkphic right there. It’s got everything, daddy issues, blame deflection, torture, breakdowns, heartbreak. But you also can’t doubt that somewhere in that absolute mess, Erik and Hatim truly actually loved each other (maybe not romantically but what does it matter at this point). Just look at that drawing of them reading a book OMG. This section was the true reward for playing up to ch. 4(!). It was a rollercoaster of pain and laughs. Truly recommend, if only just for this part \o/
My only critique is that they cut the little Sultana, and the Shah specifically was turned cartoonishly evil

Better to bear some discomfort and awkwardness in the hopes of conceiving right away than wait for any length of time to pass before it can become more... palatable. There could never be anything more than duty.
Lady Heroes: Alistair x Amell, SebHawke A happy bark and an exclamation filled the silence and she hurried to catch up. Sol dropped another invisibility spell and peered inside the open doorway. The large window was cast wide, moonlight streaming over the large bed filled with a wiggling, giddy mabari and a laughing, confused king. The bed’s curtains were opened on all sides; the fireplace was dark. Not looking to freeze to death now she was back inside a proper castle, Sol set the cold logs on fire with a thoughtless gesture. Alistair heard the woosh of flames lick up the chimney and whipped to observe the spot. At the crack of magic, Dóchas leapt off the bed, so used to sleeping in front of campfires. Sol simply shifted in the door, watching the scene unfold and waiting for the moment he would notice her. And he would, even if magic masked her completely. He would know.
Cassarric
Into the Red: soulmate cop AU It was just like his book.  As Cassandra approached the victim’s body, her immediate thought was of Marris Hethric’s bestseller The Ravaging Red. The scene before her was so perfectly in line with that of Detective Mark Greaves’ story that at first, she’d stopped in her tracks as Vallen kept walking towards the victim. She snapped herself out of it quickly, chastising her imagination. Surely it was a coincidence -- many lowlifes died in Kirkwall alleyways.
The Shelved Works of Varric Tethras: Just kidding I don’t have a damn word for chapter 19. Eeeep.
Cullen x Trev
Cool, blue waters: Cullen x Lotte  The stranger pushes her down, hard, against the granite floor. Her kneecaps shift, unsteady under the pressure of his hands and against the unforgiving tiles. They make up a blue so deep the floor shines like the sea under the moonlight. Swaths of silver veins mingle with the coastal waters, and if she squints hard enough it's like being on the shore, staring out at the endless waves. “I can almost see it,” she whispers. Home. She couldn't wait to show Cullen.
Seven Letters for Seven Moods: Cullen x Lotte If I was in Skyhold and in your office, knowing you ache as badly for me, I’d leave the door unlocked. I would sink to my knees before you, stroking your thighs as I lower myself down to the cool floor. You're ready for my attentions and I unlace your breeches myself, plucking them open slowly, teasing you with my other hand on your inner thigh, just brushing your cock (I do believe this is the first time I’ve written that word, Cullen! I cannot believe I’m doing this). You hiss between your teeth as my palm greets you there, capturing you in a tight grip.
The Name’s Evelyn Trevelyan: Cullen x Evelyn “Dorian told me you’ve never done this before. It’s okay, I don’t mind.”    “That ass.” Cullen shook his head in disbelief. “That is not what I said. At all.” He reeled back, holding Evelyn’s upper arms. “So all this time you've thought--” Evelyn was biting her lip, hard. She was trying not to laugh, but failed spectacularly, covering her face and shaking her head. “I’m sorry! He-- ahaha! Oh, Cullen. He just told me this a few days ago, so no. I had no idea.” “It’s not true.” “I know.” She said it as if she meant the exact opposite. “I have... slept with a woman before.”
Reyder
The Underground: Reyder (dance club smut) He wants her to come to a new club, something called the Underground. It sounds like Tartarus, (isn’t that underground technically too?) but Casarra doesn’t need much convincing. If Reyes can’t remember what it was like to dance with her, then it's really time to fix that.
The Way You Look at Me: Reyder Casarra cleared her throat and stepped into the room proper. Droplets of water still clung to her skin, caressing the curve of her neck, the line of her shoulders. She seemed tense; her hands stacked before her chest, clutching a towel shut. Reyes didn't dare yet move. If anything, his overt flirtations had only served to put him in this position, one where the line between her strangling and straddling him was too blurred to confidently maneuver.
Zero-sum Gravida: Reyder Pregnancy AU Reyes catches her eyes, fixing her still like the first time they’d met and the last time they’d parted. The humor is gone in his expression and he holds his jaw carefully.“It is mine?” She can't feel her fingertips. A cold sweat rushes over her body and her hair stands on end, prickling her scalp. “Yes.”
SebHawke
Choir Boy: (For @element-104, surprise.) The pallor of death was upon her, yet Sebastian could not give up hope. His bitter brother in arms did what he could. Cool blue light leached from Anders’ fingertips until sweat dripped down the mage’s brow. Hawke's insides wove together like the fine edge of a tapestry, susceptible to fraying at the slightest provocation. It had to be enough. Anders collapsed only after Varric pulled him away, Sebastian recognizing the force of the mage’s will was not too dissimilar from his own. As the fire burned low, Sebastian was the sole remainder, hands pressed in prayer, shallow breaths counted like benedictions. Choir boy. The moniker might have been mocking, but Sebastian knew how to hold a vigil, to remain at Hawke's side as long as necessary while she fought for her life on a much quieter scale than before. The angry fissure line across her abdomen would forever remind her of the Arishok; it was the mark of a Champion.
The Red Queen: AU arranged marriage “There is a place, not far from here,” he says. “We will be safe.” Marian dips ever forward in the saddle, hands gripping the horse’s wet mane. She is sodden, droplets cascading off the tip of her nose to splash against the leather seat. The King wraps an arm around her, pulling her back towards his chest. Now upright, she must close her eyes to the storm. The rain cuts across her face. He had not expected an answer, and so when she does not give one there is no reason to dismay. Yet the sinking sensation in his stomach washes over him anew. Marian is the receding tide that surges to  break the shoreline again and again, and those in her path must hunker against the waves. Sebastian had not hardened himself to bear the disappointment. His fear lies in what he might become with an iron heart; the sharp pain of angst serves far too well as a compass.
Verita x Michel
A Chevalier in Scouts’ Clothing: Lavellan x Michel de Chevin (Michel is deployed to help save Clan Lavellan) Although I never thought I would find myself here, far from Orlais, this felt like coming home. The clan is far more accepting of me than I should have expected or deserved. While I have only been here for six months, it is more easy than life in Val Royeaux ever was. Volant, Jester and I have one more meeting before we part ways. I cannot speak for them, but the feeling of accomplishment keeps me awake. My limbs are filled with a fire that was stronger than anything ever before this. Ah, Verita -- there is much I should tell you, for maybe without explanation this all sounds wrong. How could a man be so enamored with what he has found in your family?
A Trick of the Rain: Lavellan x Michel de Chevin (also Cullen x Lysette) The moment she touches his face he knows himself again and it does not conflict with his past or future. He is Michel de Chevin, son to an elven woman, in love with another. Everything is right with her slender fingers on his neck, her breath against the shell of his ear. She trembles slightly, a leaf fluttering on the vine, and Michel aches to shelter her. She's provided far more comfort to him in the last hour than he’s offered in their entire acquaintance and it shames the part of him that will never be able to shed the Chevaliers’ code. Verita presses her lips lightly against him, a mere brush of her mouth whispering something elvish. He never would have pictured himself here, in Ferelden no less, hands gripping his thighs as an elf whispers her siren call straight to his heart.

Toni & Guy guru leaves behind £163million to wife and three children
Few can boast a career that leads to professional encounters with everyone from Gregory Peck to the Rolling Stones.
Even fewer have the commercial genius of Toni Mascolo, the hair-dressing entrepreneur whose stylistic creations included Dusty Springfield’s signature ‘beehive’ and whose business acumen led him to co-found the Toni & Guy empire, which now has 475 salons worldwide.
For I can disclose that Mascolo, who was 75 when he died, bequeathed a staggering £163 million — testimony to his genius with spreadsheets and willingness to embrace business innovation as much as to his dexterity with a pair of scissors.
Mascolo, who was 75 when he died, bequeathed a staggering £163 million. The will states that the entire amount is to be held in trust for the benefit of his widow, Pauline (together), and their three children, daughter Sasha and sons Christian and Pierre
The will, drawn up three months before his death in December 2017, and only just published, records that the entire amount is to be held in trust for the benefit of his widow, Pauline, and their three children, daughter Sasha and sons Christian and Pierre.
Remarkably, this does not represent the sum total of Mascolo’s worldly goods.
The will emphasises that his property and wealth in his native Italy are excluded from its provisions.
Mascolo’s managed to realise his most vivid dreams while growing up in modest circumstances near Naples before moving to South London when Toni was 14
All of this was beyond Mascolo’s most vivid dreams while growing up in modest circumstances near Naples — a fact noted in the subtitle to his memoir: The Rags To Riches Story Of Toni & Guy.
At his mother’s suggestion, the family moved to South London when Toni was 14 and still known by his baptismal name, Guiseppe.
Despite speaking no English on arrival, within five years he was living and working in the West End, returning to his parents’ home when his mother died aged just 45, leaving his father heartbroken and unable to work.
The following year, Toni and his brother Gaetano — renaming himself ‘Guy’ — rented a room in a run-down part of South London, promising customers ‘Florentine elegance and Roman flair’.
They never looked back, pioneering unisex salons and Japanese ‘samurai scissors’, and launching their own styling products.
They were helped by Pauline, one of their former assistants, whom Toni married in 1970, and later by Sasha and Christian.
Why Idris’s stag do was strictly for his eyes only
Frequently tipped to be the next James Bond, Luther star Idris Elba knows how to keep a secret.
The actor reveals he recently went on his stag do but is determined to keep the details under wraps.
‘It was one to remember but a very low-key affair, ’ he told me at the National Film Awards at Porchester Hall in London, where he took home the best director and best drama gongs for Yardie.
Luther star Idris Elba (pictured with U.S.-born fiancee Sabrina Dhowre) revealed his stag do was ‘one to remember but a very low-key affair’
Given he was at the bash with his U.S.-born fiancee Sabrina Dhowre, who wore a £1,595 ‘Vincent’ Roland Mouret dress, his reticence was understandable. Model Dhowre, 30, had her hen do earlier this month at the five-star Amangiri resort in Utah.
Elba, 46, wore a top to the do bearing the slogan ‘Don’t Stab Your Future’, a design from his new clothing brand 2HR Set.
‘There was knife crime when I was teenager and I’m not a teenager any more and we still haven’t found a solution,’ he lamented.
Spencer the jester acts the dummy
Pippa Middleton’s brother-in-law, Spencer Matthews, might have gone teetotal and become a family man, but the former Made in Chelsea lothario hasn’t lost his sense of fun.
The Old Etonian, 30, whose financier brother, James, is married to the Duchess of Cambridge’s sister, attended the launch party of Octavia Hix’s latest collection at Chelsea boutique Baar and Bass with his wife, Irish model Vogue Williams, 33, this week.
Pippa Middleton’s brother-in-law, Spencer Matthews (with his wife, Irish model Vogue Williams)  attended the launch party of Octavia Hix’s latest collection and impulsively reached for a pink wig from the shop’s mannequin
He surprised guests when he impulsively reached for a pink wig from the shop’s mannequin to place on his own head for ten minutes. ‘Do you think it suits me?’ he asked Vogue, the mother of his six-month-old son, Theodore. ‘Yeah, it looks great!’ she chortled.
Carla Bruni really is pushing the boat out
Is singer-songwriter Carla Bruni’s career all at sea?
The former First Lady of France is now trying to make waves by agreeing to be the ‘godmother’ of a cruise ship called World Explorer.

Carla, 51, who has several gold and platinum albums to her name, will perform songs from her latest album and crack a bottle of bubbly across the bow during its launch next week.
Carla, pictured at a fashion bash in Qatar this week, was chosen, according to the skipper of Mystic Cruises Mario Ferreira, because she embodies the ‘sophistication and elegance of European design that we put to the ship’s development.’ Which I think is a compliment…
Yes, it is love actually for bride MP
Her Cornish accent — as rich, it is said, ‘as clotted cream’ — is regularly heard in the House of Commons.
But tomorrow, Sheryll Murray, Tory MP for South-East Cornwall, will intone across a more intimate part of the Palace of Westminster – the Crypt Chapel, where she will marry Bob Davidson, manager of her Commons office.
On Saturday, Sheryll Murray, Tory MP for South-East Cornwall, will marry Bob Davidson, manager of her Commons office
There will be a trace of poignancy in what promises to be a joyous occasion: Murray, 63, lost her first husband, Neil, a fisherman, in a tragic accident at sea.
Their two children will be among 100 guests who will enjoy a buffet lunch. One of the chosen hymns seems especially apt amid the current parliamentary mayhem.
‘It’s Lord Of All Hopefulness,’ Davidson, 48, tells me.
Before Marie-Chantal, Crown Princess of Greece, left England with her family to move to New York, she hosted a lavish party at their Gloucestershire home that had it all — European royalty, fashion royalty and, for those dispossessed of a kingdom, fake thrones to sit on.

Hugh Bonneville reveals he was nearly dropped from the Oscar–winning film Iris, about writer Iris Murdoch’s relationship with her husband John Bayley.
‘The American producers didn’t want to cast me. They wanted to cast someone who was very well-known, who shall remain nameless . . . Jonny Lee Miller,’ says Bonneville.
‘And the director Richard Eyre, bless him, stuck to his guns and said: “I don’t think that’s going to work to because Jonny’s busy and also he doesn’t look anything like Jim Broadbent” — who’d already been cast as the older John Bayley. So I was very lucky to get the part.’
Hugh Dancy exacted revenge on a theatregoer whose phone went off while he was performing on stage.
During his curtain call the Stoke on Trent-born actor, who will be starring in the final series of TV drama Homeland alongside his wife Claire Danes, was appealing for money for the charity Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights Aids and loudly proclaimed: ‘You sir, I hope, have very deep pockets!’ Touche.
Raunchy Fifty Shades Of Grey author E.L. James has expressed disapproval at TV presenter Lorraine Kelly’s admission that she never takes her bra off — even to sleep.
Responding to the news online, James posted a picture captioned: ‘It’s a no from me’.
Surely James, whose series of erotic novels has inspired its own line of lingerie, should be in favour of bras in bed?
