Note
Is there any scene you wish you could undo/redo in the series so far? If yes, what is it?
Yes. Any point I used dates or times.
Alternately, there's a moment in Kin where Zorc takes over Ba-Khu-Ra and attacks Meisa, that I wish I had set up better for because I had complaints about it. I stand by the events because it gave our heroes a chance to meet the real villian of the piece but he had little say in events.
Here's hoping I'm doing better this time.

Loving the Gods : A Headcanon list
Tumblr media
(I really love the Gods but sadly there are few headcanon lists about them so i wanted to make my own)
Note :
This consist Khonshu, Ammit, and ofc, Taweret. And Readers are able to see them without needing to be an avatar
Reader is Gender Neutral
SFW
Khonshu
Tumblr media
We all know that he's a manipulative ass yet somehow attractive enough. The start of your love journey with him won't be smooth
You need to set boundaries with him, especially if you choose to be his avatar.
It's not that he wanted to hurt you. Being misfit of the ennead who is never respected making him like this. Deep inside he has insecurity and anxiety that you'd leave him like others do
Ofc, it's not an excuse. But you can convince him how to treat you better. You can always convince him to change his perspective towards you
You slowly realize that Khonshu is actually a good lover without all those red flags (duh)
He doesn't have a mouth. So a kiss would be him nudging his beak softly. To your cheek, lips, stomach, anywhere you wish
In this alternate story, you helped Marc to be free. So you maintained a close relationship with him as his gratitude
Marc despise Khonshu but he remembers what Khonshu likes and dislikes. He'll help you with it
Your first date would be set right on the full moon date of this month. You may think it's just a casual dinner-picnic, but nah. It's actually a fancy dinner with a really good Cairo view and full moon above you. Jake is still Khonshu's bestie and he's a master of date arrangement between of the trio. Thanks Jake !
Your relationship would consist so many arguments on the start but that's completely normal. Slowly, you both come to an understanding and arguments have become less necessary
Khonshu realized that he often hurted his little worm (it's his pet name. It's not romantic but at least he tried) so he'd become more careful with his words and actions.
He'd still insult you if he's pissed but you're getting used to it. Infact, you know it would be something serious if he calls you with your full name instead of insults.
Pretty much protective and easily jealous. But never make a serious deal out of it.
He genuinely cares about you. Ammit can broke all his bones but once he sensed you're in danger, he'll get up without any scars and teleported to save you
If you choose to be his avatar, he'd give you a choice what suit design you want it to be, with a mix of his taste ofc
However, there's one thing that you can't change; His tantrum. You can handle it in private place but public? People would be scared seing stuffs flying around or a giant bird god on his wrath
To calm him down, you can give him what he wanted instant, or take his hand and bring him to somewhere quiet. Rub his beak. He loves it, but he hates to admit it
His tantrum actually exhaust him for some reason. Gods don't need rest but Khonshu's case is different this time
He can shapeshift from a kaiju size to a pocket size. So he can sleep anywhere. Beds, floor, couch, wherever that is. He likes being bigger so you'd ended up sleeping on him instead.
He's not soft and squishy definitely, but comfortable enugh for you to rest your body. Khonshu doesn't need sleep but he enjoys it with you and you only
Ammit
Tumblr media
Oh this crocodile lady. Loving her is like walking through cliff with a fragile bridge. One wrong step and you're on her red scale list !
but that's what makes you interested on her. You want a challenge. You want to make this like it's the last time you ever love someone
she's not as harsh as Khonshu. But she can and will manipulate anyone for her benefits. Doesn't make her morally better than Khonshu but that's on another story
Arthur will definitely be your rival. Be it as her disciple, or to be her one and only lover. (If you're into poly, Ammit would gladly accept both of you and Arthur's hand)
Old man has always tried to deny this hidden little feelings toward Ammit. But somehow he let it out after seeing you and Ammit walking together, even though you and her is not officially lover yet
Arthur is afraid that you'd take her attention fully. This is the moment you know someone is standing on your way
Arthur would pray religiously without fail every day, every night. He'd be the one that shows up the first when Ammit in need for help. Little did he knows, Ammit only sees those efforts as nothing but how her avatars should serve her
Eventually you win with little effort compared to your rival. But doesn't mean Ammit doesn't want to see you try harder
One day, you talk about her the way human love work. This is something that Arthur never talked to her. This is an entirely new, fresh topic for her
She's interested. She demands you for showing the way it works !
So you find the biggest boat you can get for a floating dinner on a big river. This is where your first date started
Ammit only devours souls but doesn't mean she'd refuse that delicious grilled fish you brought just for her.
The moon is dark. Khonshu is currently dormant for a while. Ammit will start to gossip like a teenager gossiping about certain people they hate. She'd tells you his flaws, his lanky bony body, his flying head, anything that she can talk. You're just listening and laugh. Topics will vary but Ammit will be the major conversation starter
She's actually as sweet as 10 spoons of sugar ! She's always been cold and judgmental this whole time but for the first time she shows her hidden soft side. She realized this and tells you to never tell anyone, including Arthur
She smiles softly to you, and it feels like she's out of her usual character. But that smiles was just temporary. Now she's back with her classic crocodile grin
She nudges her snout to you lips and stay for a few seconds. Then she asks you politely to bring her back, preventing the cult worried about you and her whereabouts
You can ask her to carry you, but only for 5 minutes lol. Usualy she'd carry in bride carry style
When you're back to the cult base, she'd bring you to her own chamber. Nothing sexual. Just you both talking for more hours until you fall asleep on her lap
She dislike PDA but once you're in private with her, be prepare with a giant crocodile showering you with cuddles and reptile kisses
Should you offer yourself to be her avatar, you'd be her fist. Arthur will spread the words while you enforce her judgement to worse people with serious potential of crimes. Your suit would be reptilian scale stylized and menacing to the non believers
Tumblr media
Taweret
Remember when she goes "LAaaAAAyyYYLLLaaaaAAA "? Yeah imagine that with your name
Soft cuddly hugs that would squish your lungs. She's very, very friendly with you. But if you don't tell her you specific romantic intend, she'd think that you're just being bestie with her
The biggest green flag out of the three. You still have challenge to gain that hippo soft and big heart tho
She can't tell the difference of flirting and being friendly. You have to be direct towards her !
This, ofc, would make the situations awkwards sometimes. Your sweet romantic words don't go smoothly as she would simply reply it with a thank you (in excited voice, but somehow it's still disappoint you a bit)
You dont have heart to be upset to her. She's just a ball of sunshine
Your relationship with her would be an unrequited love with a mix of slowburn, but filled with warms and joys
She'd ask you to be her avatar. She doesn't want you to serve her. She's just excited to have the coolest friend in the world as her avatar
You can say no ofc. But in this story, you don't have heart to refuse her sweet invitation
You being her avatar is unlike being Ammit's or Khonshu's avatar. You stays on her side all the time with her designing fabulous costumes just for you
Sometimes you forgot that you are her avatar. It feels like you're just being a really close best friend to her instead of a goddess's medium
You gave her a sketchbook and teach her to draw. Just a basic fundamentals, especially on clothes design and folds
Taweret, being a bundle of joy energy, would jump around and give you the warmest hug
You are her muse. You'd see yourself in the book with so many awesome costume design. Some are the one you have tried, some are new
You have no clue that Taweret actually slowly develop romantic feelings towards you. She's nervous about it but she managed to hide it
Until one day she asked you to hang out in a real world field of reeds. It's not an afterlife. A literal hill filled with reeds and beautiful sunset
She wanted you to see her masterpieces. You open each sheet carefully, until you reach one drawing that pick your attention the most
It's you and her, in the hills, with her hugging you from behind and loves symbol decorating the sketch
You're stunned with the picture. You always thought it's an unrequited love for you. You look at Taweret, now is giggling and blushing
She asks if she can kiss you and the time she hears yes, your face is already full of kisses

Where to read ENNEAD by Mojito, the boy's love manhwa
Tumblr media
"The once peaceful land of Egypt has been stained with blood under the tyrannical rule of Seth, the god of war. Horus, son of the god Isis but not yet one himself, rises to challenge the throne and put an end to the chaos and destruction. Although the confrontation between Seth and Horus began with hatred, in time it becomes blurred by obsession and desire... The ancient mythology of Egypt comes to life as you've never seen it before in this compelling fantasy BL." - Tappytoon summary There are a lot of places to read ENNEAD, the Korean boy's love comic about gods in ancient Egypt, particularly Seth and Horus! But it can be a little confusing, so I'll put some of the big ones in a list, including how to read in English, Korean, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Taiwanese, and Thai (and here's a carrd version). If you're seeing this reblogged somewhere, check the original to see if there's been any updates, because I'll try to keep this up to date.
There are two versions of ENNEAD available most places it is available: an uncensored/mature/19+ version and a censored/16+/15+ version. The numbers refer to ages.
There is benefit to reading both! Mojito often modifies the censored scenes to show more of different scenes, and some of it explores character thoughts in ways you don't get in the mature version.
Episodes with version differences:
Season 1: Episodes 28, 29, 30, 31, 32, 42, 43, 44
Season 2: Episodes 19, 45, 46, 47, 71
ENNEAD is currently two seasons long with an ongoing season 2, and a planned season 3. Mojito sporadically posts on twitter in Korean, sometimes sharing updates, writing/drawing commentary, and extras.
ENNEAD updates in Korean every 10 days, on the 9th, 19th, and 29th (barring holidays and hiatuses), and on the last day of February when it's updating in February, around 22:00 KST. It updates in English, French, and German every 10 days, on the 10th, 20th, and 30th (barring holidays and hiatuses), and on the last day of February when it's updating in February. When the English is updating near-simultaneously, it puts out its latest episode around 00:00 ET. The English translation is 6 episodes behind the Korean and currently on hiatus, but will return with S02E80 on 30 April 2024, while the French and German are 6 episodes behind the Korean and are currently on hiatus, but will with S02E80 on 10 June 2024.
Korean Audio Drama
On 5 November 2023, ACO announced a Korean audio drama of season 1 (Episodes 1-73). It was available for purchase in physical and is now available to purchase digitally by episode. You need to make an account on either site to purchase it there, and the individual episode site seems to require ID verification before purchase. More information here.
Print Releases
ENNEAD season 1 is available in print in Korean and Taiwanese, which you can purchase through Harumio and Koonbooks (along with other merch). Apparently the physical editions are a little cheaper if you look for third party sellers. Mojito announced on March 18th, 2023, that season 2 would be getting a physical release after season 2 was fully released online, though Mojito didn't specify in what language.
Seven Seas began release of an English physical edition starting in November 2023. "Seven Seas [is releasing] two versions of the series, which were originally drawn for different audiences: a paperback version rated Older Teen, and a deluxe hardcover version rated Mature. (Each version is standalone but has alternate depictions of some adult material.)" We don't know how long this release will be, but season 1 in Korean is 6 volumes, and the English is at least 5. The English will seemingly use the Korean book covers, which also seemingly indicates a 6-volume release.
There are also ongoing physical releases in German, Italian, and Japanese.
Current physical release schedule:
21 November 2023: English volume 1 physical release
24 January 2024: Italian volume 1 physical release
15 February 2024: Italian volume 2 physical release
19 March 2024: English volume 2 physical release, German volume 1 physical release
28 March 2024: Italian volume 3 physical release
24 April 2024: Japanese volumes 1-2 physical release
20 May 2024: Japanese volume 3 physical release
21 May 2024: German volume 2 physical release
19 June 2024: Japanese volume 4 physical release
23 July 2024: English volume 3 physical release
12 November 2024: English 4 physical release
English, French, German
Tappytoon is the only place to legally read ENNEAD in English online. There is currently no downloadable ebook copy in English. Tappytoon is available on browser and the app (for your phone and/or tablet). Tappytoon recently added the mature version to the app, but if you have any issues reading it, both are available and purchasable on the browser version, which you can read on your phone/tablet through your browser if you'd like. Any funds you add and any episodes you buy through the app will be there if you switch to browser. It also has a French translation and a German translation, both of which seem to be censored.
Each version, age-wise, is marked specifically: mature says "Mature" (twice), and has a red M, while the censored/16+ version is marked as 16+, and is missing the "Mature" markers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Uncensored/mature version^^^ (Again, this should be available on the app now, but if you have any issues accessing it, it has been and still is fully accessible via a browser).
Censored/16+ version^^^
Obtaining episodes: The first three episodes are free to read and keep forever. The rest are paywalled, but there are two ways to read it free, legally, through Tappytoon:
Both versions of ENNEAD are part of Tappytoon's Time Till Free program, where you log in each day and read one episode for free. It means only one episode a day, but you don't have to do anything else. The newest 73 episodes must be purchased with points (the site currency), though. As of March 21st, 2024, this would mean you can get the entirety of season 1 for free, and 6 episodes of season 2.
If you download the app for Tappytoon (usable on phone or tablet), you can watch advertisements to earn points to buy episodes. It's around 30 ads for enough points to buy one episode. If you earn points this way, you can still use them for the mature version if you open it on browser (the points stay in your account), and the episodes will remain in your account even if you can't see the mature versions on the app.
3. You can just buy points. Most credit cards and PayPal should work.
4. Points do not expire, and Tappytoon does deals to get points for cheap every now and then.
Korean
ENNEAD is available in a number of places to legally read in the original Korean. The Korean is ahead of the English translation currently by 6 episodes, and the English is on hiatus until it returns with S02E80 on 30 April 2024, so if you read the Korean, you will be ahead. If you're not using Chrome, I would recommend installing an extension on your browser that translates pages (Firefox has a number of them, just Google "Firefox translation extension"), which will make this part easier if you can't read Korean.
Witchcomics
Witchcomics carries both the censored and uncensored Korean version (uncensored has the red 19 symbol on the top right). It also has a phone app. You will need to verify your age with adult identification to access the uncensored version, and you can use international ID and payment methods for Witchcomics. Simply create an account and go to the customer care page, where they'll explain the process.
Witchcomics also typically provides a preview on their twitter a number of hours (usually no more than 24, sometimes under 10) before the new episode is released. And while Ridibooks uses the current series poster as a filler for episode "previews", Witchcomics puts a mini episode preview up for each episode on the buy/rent page itself (similar to Tappytoon).
Witchcomics is also the site that gives Mojito the biggest percentage of each episode's earnings, so if you're making a decision on where to best support Mojito, it's one of the better options, and Mojito has commented repeatedly she prefers people buy through Witchcomics.
Ridibooks
Ridibooks carries both the censored and uncensored Korean version. To find the uncensored version, type 엔네아드 in the search bar. The uncensored version has a 19 in a circle on the cover. There is also a version with a red cover, which is the complete season 1.
Ridibooks requires you to verify your age by submitting identification in order to read the uncensored/mature version. This guide is very helpful in signing up, getting 19+ access, and paying for episodes. Ridibooks accepts both international ID and international payments to access and read episodes for both the uncensored and censored versions of the story.
Naver
Naver carries both versions of the series in Korean. The uncensored version has the red 19 to the left of its name.
Kakao
Kakao carries both versions of the series in Korean. The censored version has a tiny gray 15 on the upper right corner, and the uncensored version has a 19 in the middle.
Bomtoon
Bomtoon carries both versions of the series in Korean. You need age verification to view the uncensored version, which requires submitting an adult ID to Bomtoon. The censored version is viewable without age verification.
Chinese
The simplified Chinese translation is available on bilibili, though it is censored. There is no uncensored Chinese translation. The Chinese translation is currently on hiatus.
German
Besides the Tappytoon online release, Panini Manga is releasing a physical version of the series. Volume 1 is out! Volume 2 will release on 21 May 2024.
Italian
Planet Manga, a division of Panini Comics, announced on June 6, 2023 that they would be releasing an official Italian translation of ENNEAD! Volume 1 released on 24 January 2024, and volume 2 released on 15 February 2024. Volume 3 released on 28 March 2024.
Japanese
The uncensored ENNEAD has also been translated into Japanese and is available on b-boy, renta, CMOA, Mecha Comic, and Piccoma. A translation of the censored release will begin on 20 May 2024.
The physical release of the Japanese translation began on 24 April 2024, with volumes 1-2; volume 3 will release on 20 May 2024, volume 4 will release 19 June 2024, and there are listings with unknown release dates for volumes 5-6. There are various bonuses depending on where you order from.
Thai
wecomics carries the Thai translation. It seems to require a log-in ID to access.
Merch
At this point there have been a few non-book merch waves and collaborations (with Mofun, ACO, BNOW, Gratte, and Goodsbee), mostly available through proxies. This includes posters, cards, a cup, pins, keychains, popcaps, standees, and jewelry. Remember to check when comparing prices how much goods are priced + how much it will cost to ship to you. Seoul Comics doesn't sell any of its merch for some reason (e.g., the blanket, tarot cards, magnets, crystal ball, and incense burner), it's just given away rarely in lotteries.
Proxies:
Harumio
Koonbooks
Nemo IT
Please support ENNEAD legally if at all possible. Manhwa artists have a habit of stopping translations or releases entirely when they learn about pirating, and Mojito has spoken out against pirating a number of times.

Egyptian gods - The Ennead, Seth
To begin this brief and synthetized exploration of the deities and myths of Ancient Egypt, what better start than with the villain of the Ennead, the evil (but quite nuanced) antagonist of the Osirian myth – I am talking, of course, of everybody’s favorite hated god, Seth.
Seth is often compared to Hades from Greek mythology because both are “gods that keep being portrayed by those dumb Americans as a god of evil and the ultimate bad guy when in fact they originally weren’t all bad and just neutral”. Which is partially true… but very partially. Because unlike Hades, who REALLY wasn’t evil, Seth was actually a wicked deity. He was a bad guy, a nasty god, a massive jerk, and, yes, he was quite close to what a “devil” in Egyptian mythology would be.
I) Seth: The uncle that makes everything awkward at parties
Set is one of the four children of Geb, god of the earth, and Nut, goddess of the sky, forming the last generation of the Ennead alongside his brother Osiris and their sisters, Isis and Nephthys. Set married Nephthys, whereas Osiris married Isis. Seth’s most famous role in Egyptian mythology was being the villain of the “legend of Osiris”. Now… given this myth is VERY long I will try to simplify it as much as I can. Also note that the only complete and full record we had of this legend was a Greek translation by Plutarch – which was itself an attempt at compiling the various contradicting Egyptian stories about the Osiris myth. We do have some Egyptians versions of the “Osiris legend”, but they are all fragmentary and incomplete. So let’s try to shorten and simply MASSIVELY this whole mess.
In these early days of the world, the gods still walked on the Earth and ruled over humankind as pharaohs. Geb, the earth-god, was the pharaoh of humanity for a time, but then it came time for him to pass on the crown – and he selected his elder son, Osiris, as the new ruler of the world (the human world being just Egypt, because you know – Egypt is the entire world, of course). Osiris was a good ruler beloved and adored by all – and Seth didn’t like it. Seth was not only a jealous brother who disliked seeing all the love Osiris received, but also a power-hungry god who wanted to be the stole ruler of the world. At least this is the “Cain and Abel” dynamic of the most widespread and popular version of the myth – there are several alternative telling giving other reasons for the animosity between the siblings. Some say Osiris received the good lands of the north of Egypt, with its fertile valley and the Delta, while Seth received the more hostile and arid lands of the south, and Seth disliked this very much. Other claim that Seth actually was trying to get back at Osiris because he had an affair with Nephthys behind Seth’s back. And some make Seth massively petty and say he did all of his vile crimes because Osiris had kicked him once and he felt so humiliated he swore to destroy him…
All in all, Seth decided to take over his brother’s throne, and since Osiris wasn’t going to just nicely give it up, Seth decided to murder him. The Egyptian records we have of the murder all differ and contradict each other: sometimes Seth drowned Osiris in the Nile, other times he cut his body into little pieces and scattered them throughout Egypt, in a third he turned into an animal (a bull or a crocodile) to kill his brother… Plutarch tried to gather all of these stories into one narrative, which became the most famous one: Seth gathered a great number of co-conspirators to get rid of Osiris, threw with them a fake banquet/treacherous feast to which Osiris was invited, there was a game involving trying to see who would fit perfectly into a lavishly-decorated box, and when it came to Osiris’ turn (the box was of course a perfect fit for him), Seth and his allies sealed the coffin with melted lead and threw it into the Nile. But later, when the spies and servants of Seth informed him Isis had discovered her husband’s corpse and hid it in the swamps of the Delta, the treacherous brother took it back, cut into little pieces, and scattered it throughout the Nile (he did so because he knew the tricks of his cunning sister, and he knew she had great magical powers able to resurrect the dead). By cutting the corpse into little pieces, he hoped to destroy him entirely.
Problem is: Osiris left a son behind, young Horus, who was raised secretly by his mother in the swamps. When he came to age, he made himself known to the world and demanded the throne of his father back (since, of course, Seth had usurped it as soon as Osiris “went missing”). Seth, being the wicked uncle that he is, refused to give the throne back – and this started the greatest court case of all of Egypt’s history. A trial organized by a tribunal of the gods, and that went on for more than EIGHTY YEARS to settle the legal question: who, of Seth or Horus, should inherit the throne of Egypt (aka the world)? Technically Horus should have received it, since all of the gods agreed that he was the rightful heir, that his grievances against Seth was legitimate, and that Seth was a very poor ruler compared to the universally beloved Geb and Osiris. But Seth had one massive ally with him: the very president of the séances, the overseer of the entire trial, the Master of the Universe and Creator God, Ra (well I say “Ra”, but note that in the original text the identity of this “Universal Master” is left unclear - for the sake of simplicity I will call him Ra from now on, but know it should technically be “The Master of the Universe”). Every time the gods seem to arrive at a consensus (even the ones where they attempt to please Seth, for example giving the throne to Horus, but offering Seth in compensation two new wives, Anat and Astarte), Ra, who likes Seth and doesn’t want to make an enemy out of him (for reasons I’ll describe later), started again the debate, all so that Seth could obtain the only thing he ever wanted, the sole and absolute power over Egypt. Ra, the supreme master of the universe, even complied to every whim and tantrum of Seth – for example ending up banishing Isis from the debates when Seth grew tired of her constantly defending her son. However Seth’s own flaws lost him: seduced by a beautiful woman he had never seen before, he was so charmed by the sexy temptress that he confessed to her everything. Blinded by his lust, he answered to her questions, revealing that yes, he was the murder of Osiris, and yes, he had no legal right for the throne as Horus was the only true heir. He only realized afterward that the “sexy woman” was none other than Isis in disguise – and this time not even Ra could help Seth, since he had foolishly revealed on his own that he was an usurper and a criminal…
However Seth, always quarrelsome and full of hatred, was ready to stay down even after this legal defeat, and he challenged his newly-crowned nephew to a strange competition: see which of the two would hold their breath the longest under water when turned into hippopotami. During this competition, an incident causes Horus to kill his own mother in a fit of anger. She gets better later, as gods do, but this still makes Horus a criminal in the eyes of Ra, and Seth is of course the first one to volunteer to punish Horus, by removing his eyes (there’s a lot of stories about how, during a challenge or competition or duel, Seth was responsible for removing or destroying one or all of Horus’ eyes, which then became celestial bodies in the sky). This “hippopotami competition” and what ensues is but the first of a series of trials and challenges the two rival gods inflict on each other. The next famous episode is the one of the “homosexual meal” – as Seth and Horus are invited to share a meal, Seth tries and almost succeeds in raping Horus, an action that would have “degraded” his nephew as a weak bottom, so to speak, unfit for the crown, while the dominating, virile, “top” that is Seth would deserve the crown. [If you are familiar with Norse views on homosexuality, we are in a similar case, tops are good, bottoms are bad]. But learning about this, Isis reverse the situation by placing some of Horus’ semen into Seth’s salad (his favorite dish), so that when Seth brings the story in front of the tribunal of the gods, Horus calls forward his semen which manifests itself inside Seth’s belly, making it seem that it was Horus that topped his uncle, thus humiliating him in front of all the deities. In some fragmentary records, the semen actually makes Seth “pregnant” in an abstract way, as he “gives birth” to a golden disk which manifests on his forehead, or is taken by Horus to wear on his forehead. Another fragmentary record also depicts a different origin of the semen incident, as Seth actually expressed honestly his lust for his nephew and asked Horus to have sex with him, something Horus only agreed to if Seth gave him a portion of his divine strength and power – only for Horus to then fall ill, as the semen – especially the one of Seth – was perceived as a toxic, poisonous product by Egyptians). Many more challenges and episodes would be intertwined with this story, such as a boat race in which Horus cheats, prompting Seth to become an hippopotamus to try to kill his nephew, or an episode of Horus emasculating, taking or destroying one or all of his uncle’s testicles…
Ultimately, after more rigged games, mutual humiliations, many co-mutilations, it is said that this endless conflict between the two only ended up when Osiris himself was summoned from the Underworld to give his opinion to the tribunal of the gods concerning the matter… Only for Osiris to explain that it was ridiculous to doubt that Horus, his only son and direct heir, shouldn’t have his throne, that the entire harassment and bullying of the young god was absurd and unfair – and the new ruler of the underworld, doubling as a god of vegetation, ended up with huge threats to the divine court (such as causing massive famines or an invasion of undeads) if his son wasn’t left alone as the legal ruler of Egypt. This is what forced the gods and the Master of the Universe to finally declare Horus as the undisputable divine Pharaoh of Egypt, to forbid Seth from making any more claim to the throne or attempt at taking the crown, and some even say to banish the treacherous murderer to the depths of the desert.
II) Seth, the most ambiguous of the gods
As you can gather from this story, Seth is a bad guy. He is the jealous and bitter brother, the wicked and scheming uncle, the murderer and usurper, the fake king and the rapist. Seth was thought to be a god of all things bad, wicked, dangerous or hostile in Ancient Egypt. He ruled over the desert and sterility, he was the god that caused storms and thunder. He was a god of war and violence, a troublemaker and disturber, the sower of discord and troubler of peace, an herald of disorder and unreason. He symbolized the foreigner and the invader, and all those that were hated and distrusted. The Greeks even identified him to the monster Typhon out of all beings!
However, Seth isn’t all bad… or rather, wasn’t all bad. We know that there was a process of “demonization” of Seth, who went from an unpleasant and morally-gray deity, to a full on “devil before Christianity”. Take the Osirian myth for example: in the legend of Osiris, Seth is seen as a rival and usurper, opposed to  the “hero/good prince/legal heir” that is Horus, and the conflict is only settled when Horus becomes the absolute ruler and Seth is banished. This is one of the key parts of the Heliopolis cosmogony, the one of the Ennead. BUT in an older theology, the one of Memphis, from the Old Empire, it was implied that Horus and Seth co-ruled over Egypt somehow, since they were the “Two Lords” of which the pharaoh was the heir: from Horus he inherited Lower-Egypt, and from Seth he received Upper-Egypt. Seth was in fact glorified during some eras of Egyptian history, such as the Ramesside era during which numerous shrines and sanctuaries were raised to him near the various oasis, so he could protect them. The various Thutmoses kings had an habit of invoking Seth during times of war, for their army, so he could transmit to the soldier his desire to win and his rage in battle ; and the Ramesside dynasty, originating from Avaris, the sacred town of Seth, (and in general the 19th and 20th dynasties rulers) took the habit of naming themselves “Sethi” in honor of the god. Another sacred town of Seth was Nagada, in Upper Egypt - it was believed that Nagada was the place where Nut (violently and painfully) gave birth to Seth. It seems that in this “original” perception of Seth, he was seen as a “needed evil”, in a “yin and yang” logic: he was the south whereas Horus was the north, and while Egypt had all sorts of pleasant things (Horus) Egyptians themselves recognized it had a lot of dangers that were part of its very nature (Seth). The Egyptians did recognize that disorder and chaos, as manifested by Seth, did exist before the order of Horus, and was needed to maintain some sort of balance - plus, while the desert that Seth personified was thought of as an arid and dangerous place, it also was recognized by the Ancient Egyptians as a source of wealth. The desert was the place that gave Ancient Egypt many of its riches - most notably gold, amethysts and turquoises. So Seth wasn’t all-bad, or rather he was a “necessary evil”.
However, this glory-age of Seth took an end starting with the Late Period of Egypt, as from a “complementary” god of Horus, the yang to his yin, a key god in the balance of the world, he grew to a hated and reviled figure, and the enemy of the Egyptian gods. Hymns only sung of his defeat at the hands of Horus, his name became the one of a demon and was removed from all sacred texts, and by the 7th century BC, his statues and depictions were being destroyed. It was during this whole era that his association with the “foreigners”, as the god of everything foreign, became honestly xenophobic, since in the Egyptian mind “foreigner” became equivalent to “invader” and “oppressor” thanks to the various political and historical events (the Kushite and Persian Empires and they relationship with Egypt are sometimes invoked).
But one key feature of the “ambiguity” of Seth remained, an element that was even included in the Osirian myth and was invoked as the reason Ra had such a fondness and liking for Seth. Despite seemingly being the god of all things negative and destructive, Seth is actually one of the guardians of the existence of the world – as in, he is one of the protectors of the solar boat. Ra, the sun god, crosses the sky during the day on a boat, and when night falls, still on a boat, he travels throughout the depths of the underworld, until he can reach the surface again (sunrise). This travel into the bowels of the universe is extremely dangerous, as numerous vile beasts, demons and monsters try to attack Ra and his boat, and so Ra needs a whole host of deities to fight by his side during his nocturnal travels. Seth is the most prominent and bravest of those defenders of the Sun – for it is he that, armed with a spear or a knife, faces the monstrous Apophis, a gigantic snake that tries to attack Ra at his weakest with only one goal, devour the Sun so that the world may be plunged into eternal darkness. It is Seth, the warrior-god, that battles ferociously the primordial snake each night to make sure the sun may rise once more, and it is he that kills the beast of darkness each night – only to see the beast resurrect by the next day, and ready to swallow the Sun again… As such, Seth shows that while he might be a murderer, a power-hungry usurper and the divine patron of all rapist uncles, he is still one of the first defenders of the universe, and one of the sacred warriors that fight to prevent the end of all things. He might be the god of hostile and dangerous elements of the world, he still doesn’t seek its destruction. He is the kind of villain that wants to rule over the world, not ruin it. And in a strange, paradoxical double-play, while Seth is the one sowing discord and disorder among the civilization of the gods and the realm of mankind, he is actually during the nocturnal travels in the underworld a champion of order against the primal, world-ending chaos that is Apophis…
III) More weird things
The ambiguity of Seth doesn’t just rely in his mysterious dual role, but also in his very depiction. Seth, like most of the Egyptian gods, is depicted alternatively as a human with the head of an animal, or as said animal fully-bodied. But the animal that represents Seth is so bizarre and so unique that nobody knows exactly WHAT it is. This strange creature is mostly referred today as the “Set animal”, or the “Typhonian beast” (in reference to how Seth is perceived as Typhon by the Ancient Greeks). Many MANY theories and interpretations have been pushed forward. A first theory is that the Set animal was a creature that lived in Ancient Egypt but went extinct today. A second theory is that this animal is actually an artificial creature, invented exclusively to symbolize the disconcerting and disquieting nature of this god of chaos, trouble and stereility. And finally a third theory is that this animal is simply an hyper-stylized depiction of an actual animal. A lot of different options were brought forward: it could be a hyena, a wild dog, a giraffe, an okapi, a fox, a pig, an aardvark... A prominent candidate is the donkey, as we know the donkey was one of the sacred animals of Seth, and the most common beast to sacrifice to him. If you were quite rich or part of the upper-class, the sacrifice rather involved more extravagant or dangerous beast, such as the oryx antelope or an hippopotamus (a beast that, as you can see with the Osirian legend, was strongly tied to Seth, who was said to regularly take his shape). In fact we do have several Late Period depictions of Seth with a donkey head instead of his bizarre Typhonian beast head... But at the same time the Late Period depictions of Seth were quite bizarre and crazy in the middle of this big demonization and censorship-wave ; heck, we have a Late Period depiction of Seth with a FLAMINGO HEAD! Overall the Set animal is still a mystery today, though it only adds to the charm and charisma of this ambiguous god.
Seth was strongly associated with the color red. On top of it being a color of danger and aggression, Seth was also called the “Red Lord” or the “Red God” because he was supposed to rule over the “Red Land”, aka the desert with its burning sands, opposite to the “Black Land” of the “Black Lord”, aka the fertile, silt-filled lands of Horus. Among his many titles were included: Seth gateway to the desert ; Seth powerful-in-his-mighty-arm, or Seth lord of the oasis. In Egyptian astronomy, Seth was associated with the planet Mercury. Final trivia: “Seth” is actually the Ancient Greek spelling and transliteration of the deity’s name. Most of the Egyptian gods we know today by their Greek name – the actual, original Egyptian name of the god would be written Sutekh.
WARNING NOTE: This is by no mean an expert speaking about a well-known subject. It is just a random fan of Egyptian mythology putting together the things he knows, I might be dead wrong, this is just a “here’s what I know” post. There is also a lot of info I cut out for the sake of simplicity.

The three most important ancient Egyptian theogonies and cosmogonies (a text of Egyptologist Salima Ikram)
" Creation Myths
The ancient Egyptians had several myths dealing with the creation of the cosmos and all that it contained. Probably, many of these myths had local origins, but with the unification of the country, they were gathered together and regarded as equally believable, or, depending on a particular situation, one may have been favoured above the others for some time. From the evidence that remains, it does not seem that the Egyptians had difficulty holding onto fairly contradictory concurrent beliefs.
The Heliopolitan Cosmogony is one of the earliest creation myths and originated at the site of Iwnw (Heliopolis in Greek; biblical On), a major solar centre. In this myth, a group of nine gods (the Ennead) created the world. First, the god Atum ("the complete one", "the all") masturbated (in some stories, he spat) and from his ejaculation created a pair of gods, the male Shu ("air") and his female counterpart Tefnut ("moisture"). They gave birth to Geb ("earth") and Nut ("sky"). (The Egyptians are almost unique in having a male earth god and a female sky divinity.) In turn, Geb and Nut produced two sons, Osiris and Seth, and two daughters, Isis and Nephthys, who were also their brothers' consorts. Clearly, incest was not taboo for gods in Egyptian religion; it was also acceptable for kings, who were regarded as gods. Incest was a taboo for anyone else, however. The tale of Osiris, Isis, Seth, and Nephthys leads into the Osiris myth cycle. (Fig. 64.)
An equally important myth, the Hermopolitan Cosmogony, originated in the Middle Egyptian city of Khemnw (the Greek Hermopolis), which was sacred to the god Thoth. In this tale, a group of eight gods, an Ogdoad, consisting of four couples of male and female divinities, personified the elements of chaos, or pre-creation. These were "hiddeness" or "hidden potential", personified by Amun and Amunet; 'formlessness", personified by Huh and Hauhet; "darkness", embodied by Kuk and Kauket; and the primeval waters, incarnated in Nun and Naunet. These deities created an egg that contained the gods responsible for creating the other gods, the land, animals, plants, and humans. Thoth was probably this god originally, which was particularly appropriate since an ibis is hatched from an egg. However, Atum was inserted in this role in some versions of the myth.
The Memphite Theology is another significant creation myth. This was probably an old tale, but the most complete version known to us was recorded on the Shabaka Stone (ca 710 BC, Dynasty 25), named after the king who had the myth inscribed on this piece of basalt; another version, the Bremner-Rhind Papyrus (4th century BC), was written on papyrus. In this myth, Ptah created the world by conceiving it in his heart (equivalent to our mind) and then giving it life by articulating or naming each element of the world and its denizens. The idea of thinking of something (Hu) and then causing it to exist through the act of speech (Sia) is close to the later biblical story of God's creating the world through speaking it; this story has also parallels in Australian aboriginal myths and in other concepts of speaking or singing the world into being. In the Memphite theology, Ptah created Atum and the Ennead, and, through them, the rest of the world.
Minor variations exist for all these myths, and sometimes, in the Memphite theology, other gods, such Amun-Re, supplanted Ptah as supreme creator, although Ptah remained an important character in the myth. Alternate accounts also exist; for example, in "The Destruction of Mankind", Re was cast as the supreme being and self-creator, with other gods, such as Nefertum, also playing generative roles."

hi everyone! 21+, an advanced literate - novella writer looking for someone to write with. currently looking for a fantasy/dark romance roleplay—in which muse A, a demi-god, catches the eye of muse B, their parent’s rival who becomes dangerously obsessed with them. I would love to explore this in ancient Egypt (something similar to the manhwa Ennead!), but I’m open to other alternatives/pantheons/mythology, or even an original pantheon of our own making! worldbuilding, dead dove, taboo and otherwise dark themes are welcomed.
the pairing I enjoy is mxf (with me playing f) and I’m also open to polyamorous / reverse harem dynamics! like if you’re interested and I’ll reach out 🫶

History and the Demonization of Set
Something I don’t like much to talk about, but necessary for you know, general transparency and access to information.
Over the course of Egyptian history Set’s reputation changed. Unlike with some other pantheons, where the demonization of a specific deity is purely the influence of the spread of Christianity, this is (sadly for me) not the case in this situation.
In early periods, Set was a respected part of the Ennead, one of the four children of Geb and Nut. He is heavily associated with Upper Egypt, and may have been (I consider him to have been in any case) the patron or pharaonic deity of the region before the unification of Egypt.
It’s unclear when things started going south. The easiest thing to point to is, well, the unification of Egypt, but even at this point he isn’t outright vilified, as there is much imagery showing him and Heru symbolically unifying the nation in various forms- though its important to note that eventually his reputation is so tarnished he is replaced by Djehuty in this imagery in some regions.
It might be more accurate to say that rather than Set becoming unpopular, Wsir became more popular, to the point that he and his son Heru eclipse and assimilate other smaller regional gods, and celebrations like the Haker festival become more and more central. Although to explain this phenomena I should probably back up a bit-
So there’s this whole myth where Set kills Wsir, right? Yeah.
This myth is the cornerstone for a lot of modern Egyptian worship and a lot of historical worship (late middle and new kingdom especially). There’s a lot going on, and versions of the myth have changed and have different iterations and nuances based on the region or time. The crux of this is that Wsir dies, and that is how gains his aspect ruling over the dead, and his pharaonic rule aspect is passed to his son, Heru. Personally, I follow an alternate myth in which Wsir’s death is simply an accident where he drowns.
Of the most common themes in this myth are the idea that Set tricks Wsir into an untimely demise, and Heru ultimately avenging his father by bringing set to justice. There are versions where they battle violently over the right of succession to Egypt’s throne.
What is I think is important to keep in mind is that even with this aspect and version of the myth where Set murders his brother, he is not immeidately demonized. In fact there are several points of time and places where this myth is an accepted canon, but Set is still a respected deity. This has to do a lot I think with how polytheism allows for fluidity and non-binary thought (I did a post on that subject here). Strong examples of this include you know, all of the Pharaohs named Seti (who took Set’s name as their pharaonic name and as their patron) and a particular line from some versions of the Haker Festival cries against Set amount to the sentiment ‘why did you kill your brother, though we know it was necessary.’
This particularly I think lends itself to the idea of Wsir needing to die to fulfill a greater role, and Set ultimately taking the unpalatable task upon himself. This way of thinking I feel fits well with those who follow a left hand path or similar school of thought. (In fact, I followed this ideal when I was younger, before finding any involvement of Set in Wsir’s death increasingly uncomfortable due to, frankly, community politics.) In this role Set is sort of the god of ‘getting shit done even if it really really sucks’ and honestly, it fits well.
But eventually many Egyptians came to portray Set purely as a villain. He became in their eyes not only an enemy of Wsir, but of Ma’at. Things like the Feast of Victory- the celebration of Heru’s victory over Set, which I don’t personally celebrate for obvious reasons- became much more central and black and white in their presentation. Some places went as far as to identify him with Isfet (which I like to refer to as the no-no chaos, or cosmic forces of destructive disorder) literal minions of Isfet became Set’s instead, so on and so forth. The view of a late New Kingdom Set was of a betrayer, not a complex force of contrariness.
Of course, even then there were still likely isolated cults, I’d imagine especially in Upper Egypt where his roots are. And, fortunately I suppose, as I discussed in my post about historical inconsistency and the… nuance? Challenge? Of following a religion that lasted and evolved over thousands of years, one benefit is getting to pick which of these versions of these myths I hold for my beliefs.
A few other notes on stuff that changed with Set over the years. Originally Anpu was his and Nebt-Het’s son, then later this was changed to the son of Nebt-Het having an affair with Wsir, and sometimes with him entirely just becoming Heru’s brother (much rarer though). This also reflects a lot of perception of Set I think. (and I’ll talk about my thoughts on Anpu’s lineage in another post I’ll eventually link here) Set was always a war deity, but his personality sort of shifted from being loud and boisterous to just outright violent. Set being a god of natural forces such as the storm and desert meant his favor could have fallen based on prolonged harsh natural conditions in which Egyptians felt they were being unfairly punished by the god that governed them.

3 attempts at kemetic prayer beads. Trying out which format I like better since I for sure want to incorporate prayer beads into my practice in some form. More likely I'm going to be using different ones for different recitations.
The tri-colored ones I call Ennead beads. I arranged them as 9 "decades" of 9 each for a total of 81. The intention as the name suggets would be to use them in recitations to the whole of the Ennead, but since the "decades" go in a color pattern of green-orange-blue I can see them adapting well for recitations in honor of divine triads like Aset, Heru, and Wesir or Mut, Khonsu, and Amun.
The bi-colored ones I call Ogdoad beads. The alternating green-blue pattern reocurrs 32 times for a total of 64 beads (8² or if you want to see it like that 2⁶ or even 4³). Intention here being an eightfold recitation in honor of Djehuty in his epithet of Lord of Khemnu/creator god of the Hermopolitan theology. Can be adpted for worship of groups of two (Sekhmet and Ptah, Aset and Nebet-Hut, Anupu and Wepwawet), of four (the sons of Heru, the 4 Noble Ladies), or of eight Netjeru (like the Ogdoad, of course, but also the grouping of the sons of Heru + the 4 Noble Ladies).
Finally the solid colored beads are 49 (7²). The kind of recitation I had in mind was something to the effect of the Wep Ronpet 7 arrows litany to Sekhmet. If I look more into it I can probably encounter more sevenfold things. Off the top of my head I also remember the "7 Hathors" but I'm unsure if anything can be built off that.

ok so i mentioned i was doing this oc ask game and some friends off tumblr threw questions at me but i thought i’d cross post here for funsies (part 2)
👖 JEANS - what is their go-to outfit? (for everyone)
this question was intended as a jab at my complete inability to remember anyone's glasses but i think it is actually just revealing of how little i think about fashion. anyway. i'm going to consult the color-coded spreadsheet now.
new guard first
ilia: flannel button up and skinny jeans with tennis shoes, usually in cool colors
morgan: i'm cheating bc morgan's creator gave me the outfit word for word. jeans, tank top, dark-colored turtleneck, a red leather jacket, and combat boots. i have forgotten morgan's glasses and i will continue to forget them.
peter: black hoodie and sweatpants/jeans. i haven't used the velcro suit gimmick yet and i feel like i should
juli: goth butch vibes... given their line of work i think it's usually dark t-shirt + cheap faux leather or denim jacket + skinny jeans since anything nicer than that would end up with bullet holes in it
lian: cute patterned sweater + miniskirt or midi skirt in pastel colors
joshua: i am cheating again btw. green aviator jacket + sleeveless turtleneck + ripped jeans + fingerless gloves with steel knuckles + combat boots. first character to have glasses mentioned in canon.
rae: on a casual day probably like. a polo and khakis or dark jeans. i am not at all basing this on my brother
karyme: cardigan + plain blouse + patterned pants +/- scarf depending on weather and if she's going out and such. she has glasses. are you reading this earthy.
dani: tank top + skinny jeans + sweater tied around her waist + sneakers. YES she has glasses i did NOT forget.
auster: black hoodie and jeans. i didn't ask auster's creator for this but i know this in my heart
annnd now the ennead. i need everyone to know that my sister looked at me while i was writing this, narrowed her eyes, and told me to stop insulting her. i had not even told her what i was writing.
jinal: if not scrubs (for work), the answer is probably more casual kurtis and leggings/jeans
haku: dresses like my sister. t-shirt + hoodie + either athletic shorts or sweats. the only character whose glasses i consistently remember
minerva: rompers. hear me out: it's easy to move in and also has the potential to be cute as shit. alternately the dress + leather jacket combo (ty mika for opening my eyes to this)
ven: crop top + jacket + short shorts + long socks or cute dresses
kai: polo or button down + dark jeans or khakis depending on how formal he needs to look
mateen: sweater vests
ridwan: there's no one go-to but like. over the shoulder tops. crop tops. short shorts. patterned leggings. usually darker colors but not always
silpa: dresses like my sister... 2! free t-shirts and jeans but with overalls thrown in. socks and sandals when not working with sharp implements.
felix: pastel blouses/button-ups and patterned short shorts

Prompt : "I'm not sick, I'm only slightly ill. There's a difference. I can handle today."
Warning : Injuries, Blood
Rating : 15+ (no smut)
Author Note : This was a quick ficlet that i did in one sitting. I'd like to explore the alternate story where he was Ammit's avatar but like The Moon Bois did, rather than just being her avatar in one night like in the show. The prompt was randomly generated from here.
---
One major flaw from the power Ammit had bestowed was the lack of healing ability. It was not like she didn't want to, nor she didn't care. That was just how she always had been, a keen fighter. Continuously fighting and beating down her opponent, without having or needing a chance to heal. And so was her avatar.
It was 2 am the time Arthur finally home from his duty. He was bleeding, bruised, injured. The feelings you had were mixed. Anger, sadness, worries, all into one inside you. He slumped into the sofa, not having much energy to take care of his wounds. You hurried to take warm water and some towels to clean up his wounds.
"I'm fine, my love. Those wounds would go away within days"  Of course Arthur didn't have the heart to see you worried about him, yet he can not fully lie to you.
"Sometimes I wish you would care about your injuries even just for one day." You sighed heavily while wiping the blood on his temple
He just smiled at you. His mouth showed the warmest smile, yet his eyes could no longer hide how tired he was. Penance was the perfect word to describe how he saw his wounds. But what was the point of empty punishment ?
Ammit was just staring in the corner of the room, hidden in the shadow of the unlit part. She was ruthless, that's how the Gods saw her. But there was a reason why Khonshu was the worst ennead for an Avatar, not her. Unlike the old bird, she knew the words of "enough is enough". You didn't like her that very much, but at the same time you didn't particularly hate her. You only talked to her when it was really needed, the rest was you tolerating her existence on your lover's side. She didn't say anything as she was merely an audience as you finally finished and decided to sleep on the couch, alongside already-sleeping Arthur.
You were abruptly awoken with the harsh sound of Arthur coughing, spitting mucus from his throat with blood mixed in it.
"Go to the bed now, Arthur. Enough of your avatar stuff today." Your voice was a bit firm, decisive as you wanted Arthur to obey.
"I can't. The world needed me to continue our Goddess's judgement." He was persistent with his duty, like usual.
"Listen to her, Harrow. You know well you couldn't fight with a body like this." The crocodile goddess's voice was loud, enough to startle you. At the very least she was on your side.
"I'm not sick, I'm only slightly ill. There's a difference. I can handle today." He wiped the blood trace on his mouth corner.
"Slightly ill with blood coming from your mouth? Were you doing your job or you wanted to kill yourself?" You hated every time you had to argue with him, but you had no choice.
Arthur closed his eyes for a moment, then sighed.
"Very well. I shall rest this morning, but if I'm fine in the afternoon I will continue my duty." He walked to the bedroom, limping with the cane supporting every movement of his leg.
You sat on the couch, head resting on your hands. You glanced at the goddess, eyes meeting each other. You both knew well he would insist on getting out of bed before the sun set. But what was important is that he got a proper sleep this morning.

Egyptian mythology: Triads everywhere
One of the key features of Egyptian mythology is the presence of “triads”.
Each city of Ancient Egypt had a patron-god, one big, popular, male deity overseeing the city, and the Egyptians took the habit of systematically attribute to their patron-god a companion-goddess, a wife, and to complete their family with one singular male child. This ensemble was a “triad” or “trinity”. Some of them were “natural”, as in they naturally formed themselves based on the legends and myths, in which a genealogical tree did exist. This is the case for the Osirian Triad, which is formed of Osiris, his wife Isis and their son Horus. But a lot of other triads of Egypt were actually “artificially” created for religious purposes, without any true myth behind it, during the New Kingdom. This is most notably the case of the two other most famous triads of Egypt (alongside the Osirian Triad): the Thebes Triad, formed of the god Amun (father), the goddess Mut (mother) and the god Khonsu (son) ; and the Memphis Triad, formed of Ptah (husband), Sekhmet (wife) and Nefertum (son).
There are many reasons for the existence of those triads in Egypt. On a very basic level, the number three was the number symbolizing the “plural” in Egypt, so when you had to refer to the gods in plural, the mind of the Ancient Egyptian quickly went towards a group of three deities. In fact, Ancient Egypt made a distinction between the “simple plural” (of three) and the “superior plurial” of 3 by 3, aka 9. This is why the pantheon of Heliopolis is the Ennead, a group of nine deities. The importance of the number three in Ancient Egypt can notably be found in an hymn to the Amun of Leyde, written at the end of the New Kingdom, where it is said “All the gods are three; Amun, Ra and Ptah. Their cities on Earth, Thebes, Heliopolis and Memphis, shall survive until the end of times”. On a more practical side of things - Egyptians cherished families a lot. They were big on families, and for them every man needed a female companion to not age alone, and every man needed a child to be his heir and descendant and perpetuate his lifework. (If you don’t know, the Egyptians did believe that their gods actually aged. Much, MUCH slower than humans of course, since their life was calculated in millenia rather than years, but the gods still aged). Of course, this meant that people wanted and liked the idea of their city-god or patron-god having a family of his own, just like them. Finally, for a more technical reason, the creation of triads was encouraged by the priests because it made their job much easier. On one side, it allowed them to “preserve” the cult of minor or secondary deities, “saving” them from possible oblivion and neglect by associating them with the current big, popular god of the moment. On the other side, by making sure all the gods were related to each other one way or another, the religion hoped to unify itself the same way Egypt itself united itself into one great empire, and with these triads, cultural “bridges” were built between different cities with often conflicting theologies.
It is quite interesting to note that in the divine triads, the typical family dynamics of Ancient Egypt are at work: the father-god is also the head of the clan and the leader of the trinity, due to his status as the patron-god of the city and/or region the triad is tied to. For example, in Edfu the local triad is made of the beloved and powerful god Horus, who absolutely dominates over his wife, the goddess Hathor, and his son, the god Harsomtus (Harsomptus? I collected conflict info about this god, which seems to be just an alternate identity of Horus himself), both relegated to the role of secondary deities merely assisting Horus. HOWEVER there is one noticeable triad that breaks this pattern and offers an interesting gender reversal: the Denderah triad, in which it is the wife-goddess, Hathor, that dominates as the prime and most important deity, while Horus her husband and their son (here the god Ihi) become secondary characters in the cult.
If I should list yet another gender-breaking triad, I could invoke the triad of Elephantine, centered around its local creator-god, Khnum, who is said to have as a wife the goddess Satet. The “gender-breaking” thing here is the fact that the triad doesn’t have a son, unlike most of the others, but rather a daughter, the goddess Anukis.
Finally, note that the common presence of triads in both the Ancient Egyptian religion and the Ancient Roman religion helped the two religions and mythologies connect as their respective civilizations mingled together.
