NOTE 1: First stanza was the most awkward to make and probably still is the most awkward in general. But I couldnt think of an alternative thats without even more awkward sentence structure. And I think it works out in terms of Luka uncomfortably dogpiling Mizi with compliments, while also calling her “The light and sun, my star.”

NOTE 2: Sad vs. saddened has an odd difference in nuance in my mind but using a synonym for sad felt more jarring and excessive. Left it as is because it does get the point across, and maybe its just me overthinking it, lol.

NOTE 3: Ive considered changing “I don’t believe. You’re a liar.” to something like “Dont believe it,” or “Dont believe you,” but I try not to change lyrics that are already in English. I also think the awkwardness serves to portray Mizi’s state (of struggling to sing) in Round 5 very well and that there may be some intentional play on words of taking the “You” from “You’re” to finish the first phrase, so it works out.

NOTE 4: The original translation of “The endless walls / A fall with no ground” is actually pretty interesting to ponder about and I encourage others to do so about Luka’s character!

At first, I personally interpreted it as walls being obstacles to a goal, in which, no matter how much you overcome, there is another to face. And then the fall part is simpler to understand and just illustrates the hopelessness and despair of such a situation.

Thinking more, I considered joining the two lines and perceiving the walls' “endlessness” in terms of “height,” which would be why the fall would be perceive as "with no ground." Even if you were to overcome and stand at the top of such a wall (potentially referring to Luka’s position as a winner of Alien Stage), the situation is terrifying. And of course, falling from such a height (dying) is terrifying too. So this lyric could refer to how Luka views life as terrible either way (theres no winning) and/or that, despite his “advantageous position,” he’ll never be able to properly overcome his circumstances as a human pet.

Anyways! *kicks my feet* I translated the wall line as ambiguous to either interpretation because the ambiguity is likely the intention and I think theres value in all those takes.

ALTERNATIVE LYRICS (Line 9 and 27): “When our darkness overlaps onto each other” You have to pause on the “o” in “overlap,” which is a bit awkward. The current lyric works out well since the syllable that needs to be paused on is a single word (“starts”). This line rhythmically was probably the most difficult to tackle, haha.

ALTERNATIVE LYRICS (Line 14 and 32): “Your beauty is forever.” As someone who prefers not deviating from a translation as much as possible, to be frank, that just sounds bad, imo, lol. But if you prefer that option, go for it, I guess!

ALTERNATIVE LYRICS (Line 21 and 22): “I will lose all my sense / I will go blind and deaf” I enjoyed the first half implying that one’s losing their “mental” sense (mind), but felt that it deviated from original meaning too much.

For example, a character vibrating would probably be animated on 1s, iirc.

Some of the most impressive sequences are not always on 1s! Animators often prefer the way animation on 2s hits - 12 FPS is choppy, and that is often very desirable. So, I was taught to intentionally alternate depending on circumstance

by "all of them" i'm taking that to mean all recurring names i actively write for in my actually-listed AUs, so let's do this rapid-fire style hell yeah

metal: not "weird", but occasionally pretends he's still mute/incapable of communication if he really doesn't like someone. just stares deadpan at them like they're stupid for trying to talk to him. alternatively, chooses to use sign language instead of audibly speaking just to be an asshole if he knows said disliked-person can't read it. he's very petty and full of spite, always, and this kind of insult has Layers considering his relationship with communication in general.

alt-doom: a very "how do you do, fellow kids" sort when it comes to interacting with people outside his immediate hive. it's not secondhand embarrassing or cringe-worthy or anything, he's just a tiny bit out of his depth emotionally sometimes. it comes off a little like someone who's socially awkward but managing to hide it by being incredibly charismatic. at least he means well.

amnesiac/redeemed god mephiles: no matter which side of the became-a-god-again arc it is, they have a habit of staying half "submerged" in ground shadows while conversing with someone as they walk together. especially prior to regaining their god status, this occasionally led to abruptly sinking the rest of the way down when someone would approach, leaving semi-modern looking like he was talking to thin air the whole time. post-redemption, they still sometimes "sneak up" on people by appearing in their ground shadow and waiting to be noticed.

aruna: can and will fall asleep to blaring sirens. or just about any other droning frequency. it can be a little concerning, given certain frequencies will put him into an almost sedated/trancelike sleep. also likes sleeping in literal dog beds. he has no idea this could be seen as degrading, despite his first introduction to one being literally intended as such.

lab rat shadow: has a burrowing instinct unrelated to anything in his history. if you give him a pile of blankets and pillows, he'll naturally end up hidden in/under all of them despite having never interacted with so many at once before.

metal medic: can't communicate or hum/sing in any traditional sense, but can mimic the idea of it by producing a series of differently-pitched beeps and blips. has a very limited range, but uses it as a sort of lullaby. it's questionable whether this was a coded function or if he figured it out himself.

Here’s my attempt at a masquerade design for Raven 😂 (Emphasis on “attempt” because I threw this together very quickly and I’m still not 100% satisfied with it—)

The overall look is a mixture of visual elements pulled from 15th century French women’s fashion, Malleus’s masquerade outfit, and Enchanted’s Narissa. Raven’s hairstyle and eye makeup is also very heavily inspired by Narissa. Many of the additional details and accessories (cursive scrawl on the fabric, feathered fan, the “cage” of the skirt, pearl beading and jewelry) are flairs that speak to Raven’s own style and personality.

Her mask is meant to be “fact and fantasy” themed. The feathered half is her true bird self, and the other half is meant resemble her dreams and desires (manifested as the words she writes).

I thought it was fitting to draw ideas from Narissa, since she has water-related powers (a contrast to Malleus and Rollo’s fire) and can turn into a dragon (which feeds into the dumb Masquerade subplot about Raven and Malleus being mistaken for relatives). I tried to make Raven’s outfit somewhat similar to Malleus’s (incorporating the colors and the feathers) while still making the look uniquely her own.

Oh, I’m sure J word will see the masquerade look somehow 😌 Raven could easily send Jade a picture of everyone altogether in their masquerade attire (via text) or maybe post it on Magicam (and he spots it on there)? Alternatively, Raven sends a pic to Crowley and Jade happens upon it while filling in for Azul’s duties as dorm leaders while he’s at the symposium—

Not doing the poll because I think the situation is a little too complex for a "yes/no/other" kind of answer, but... have you already an artist you'd like to commission in mind? Or is it more of a vague idea right now?

If it's just an idea... personally, I'd try looking at different artists and either checking their carrd/BYF/commission info/FAQ to see if they have a "things I won't do/I'm not comfortable with" section or, if they have some variant of "proship/proshipper" or "anti-anti" or "comship/comshipper" in their header or pinned post, I'd try sending them an ask like, "Hello! I really like your art and I was wondering, if I wanted to commission art of an incest ship from you, would you be okay with that?" You could also send it on anon if you felt more comfortable or safer that way.

Alternatively, I thiiiiink there was an old post on the Shipcestuous blog calling for artists willing to do incest commissions. I'm not sure how many people actually answered, though. You could try asking Astrid how it went.

If you already have an artist in mind, on the other hand, I'd try going through their blog to see if they have any posts about fandom discourse/problematic ships/incest. The things you're saying (about looking at carrds, profile, etc.) are very reasonable. However, I'm not planning to commision art on Tumblr, but on a specialized freelance site. I would be happy to do it on Tumblr, and it would be easier to know if an artist is a proshipper or antishipper, but I just don't have a dollar account! And it would be hard to convert rubles into dollars. So I have to go for Russian artists. As I said, there are usually no antishippers in Russian community, but who knows? I already have a few artists in mind, and they almost all do not have the "things I won't draw" section in the decription. And if they do, it's usually about drawing NSFW.

What are your thoughts on Zhou Zishu and his willingness to enter into a relationship with Wen Kexing? For the majority of the novel Tian Ya Ke, he seems to be interested in and annoyed by and tolerant of and amused by Wen Kexing, but even at the moment when the two "get together" at the end, it seems he's still reluctant. As a reader that feels unsatisfying and maybe uncomfortable that he only gets to the point of tolerating Wen Kexing's physical sexual contact. Did I miss something earlier? Sorry I don't read OC 90% of the time. Occasionally something will come out of Japan where I have actually read the manga but only if it had print publication in the USA.

I didn't even know danmei existed until my dash blew up with Untamed. Cdramas were probubly the last piece of Asian content I picked up, and I still dither over watching them.

I went something like:

Yaoi -> JBL (forgot about it) (distracted by life) emotional crisis -> YouTube -> Thai BL + (Kpop) -> Taiwanese BL -> Pinoy BL & Vietnamese BL -> grey sites and illegal content acquisition -> (Korean dramas via Kpop) -> Viki sub -> KBL -> JBL rediscovery (GaGa sub & back catalogue) -> Cdramas (mostly on the perennial hunt of noona romances and because of the pretty robes).

Some of the early CBLs were sprinkled in there when I found them on YT but I didn't really think of them as belonging to a greater oeuvre until much later when I started seriously blogging here and decided to spend all of 2020 watching every scrap of BL content I could get hold of (and developing a tracking system for it).

Frankly the film side took all my focus.

But also, one of my degrees focused on literature so OC (Y-novels or danmai etc...) and fanfic have never been my thing. What I find tolerable or amusing in captions and graphic adaptations, I find intolerable in the full written translation form. Broadly speaking, the characters and plot aren't enough to distract me from problematic prose. (And by that I mean just sentence structure, repeat word use, incorrect word choices, odd grammar.) And before you ask yes I include Twilight, 50 Shades, and quite a few English pillars of fandom in this mix.

Which is not to say I don't enjoy commercial fiction, just that i prefer it if the English is well written at core. Which usually means the translator needs to have English as their first language or be entirely bilingual, and that's just really rare especially with OC BL content.

I know this makes me snobbish. I genuinely love so many other languages, particularly when spoken and as artifacts of socio cultural interaction/representation, but when I read something in English (and that's the only language I read fluently) I get too judgey and it limits my enjoyment.

What we have in English is an excess of nuance due excess vocabulary (and our predilection for bashing other languages on the head and ruthlessly stealing their words). I don't think, in its spoken form, that English is a very pretty language. But in its written form? Its beauty is in its capacity for nuance and flexibility, and a lot of directly translated stuff (particularly that which is done by or for fans) is awkward and almost brutal with my native tongue. It pains me to read and so I... don't.

Like there are subtle use pattern differences between many English words that the thesaurus claims are equal (dour/glum actually mean subtly different things, so too sullen vs surly). So picking the wrong one because you just never learned the alternative makes me wince. Also knowing when really only the original language word will work (like for honorifics) or when a very very old English word is a superior choice because of historical context.

I guess I just get annoyed because it feels clumsy and while I can readily forgive this one medium I can't in another.

Steven after Steven universe future when he is about 16 3/4 he leaves for the road. for the next 3 months on the road before his 17th birthday he travels around to different states seeing a bunch of bands and concerts making new friends and while that was happening the thing Steven was scared of happening was happening but it was surprising fine and it didn’t really stress steven out as much as he thought it would. Connie and Steven were growing apart from each other. Nothing bad happened between them it just started getting really awkward after the proposal and just rude distant overtime. Steven realize that the reason why him and Connie was so close was because they were the only person they had for each other for friends and now Steven has a stable friend group. He’s much closer to Lars and even looks up to him more as a brother figure.   Lars is aware of his mental health issues and has become a really good support system for Steven.  He still doesn’t have a good relationship with his mother, or the way that he looks at her but his therapist does want to work on that and will in the future and kind of brought some light in of some of the issues she might’ve been going through.

For Steven’s 17th birthday he decides to instead of going back to beach city. He’s going to visit the diamonds he hasn’t seen them since his corruption, but has stayed in contacted. Lars and the off color met Steven at the castle to also celebrate his birthday. Lars brought some really cool comics and a lot of cool action figures and the off-color, all made him handmade cards. Spinel Yellow and blue made him beautiful watercolor paintings for him but White had the biggest present of all. it was a secret that no other diamond knew. The portal of bridges. Very few people or entities in any alternate universe or any other universe has this power. To name a few Bill cipher, White diamond, Steven, The collector, Anne from amphibia but only when she passes away, and turns into like the carer of the galaxy to name a few.

What is the portal of bridges? so whenever a alternate universe, or separate universe with earth in it, or some kind of earth, has a reference to a other separate universe with a Earth, or some kind of earth, a bridge the more the reference and the more the connection, the stronger and more powerful the bridge gets, but that doesn’t mean anyone can access that only people who are able to control the bridges and be able to I guess break time and space to go to the separate universes with the separate earths. For some example amphibia and the owl house has not the strongest bridge, but a bridge is still there, and some of the most strongest collectors can use them but not the main one we seen a series. Steven universe and star wars/star trek (in Stevens room their were posters) that one is also pretty weak because it’s not very substantial in Steven universe but I wan, which is way more powerful is the gravity falls, and the owl house. Let me explain why the owl house was cut really short, and it is believed that if it didn’t get cut short that we would have a bill cipher arc of bill, cipher helping Belos create the portal. because he is known as the strongest entity in multiple universes, or multiple different earths that bridge is the strongest because he is able to control that because he has the most power.

White diamond shows him this, knowing after his corrupted form that he is definitely powerful enough to control these bridges.  this is not an easy task and actually he decided for a couple months to stay with the diamonds for white diamond to teach him how to control this power, and how to learn and it takes months for him to even be able to create a stable enough bridge for him to pass into a different universe.

Steven was about 17 3/4 when he was finally able to create a stable enough bridge to pass on to a different earth/universe. Which one was easy enough the owl house. he comes along the timeline, which is before the time skip in the last episode, but after they defeat Belos. Steven helps a bunch of rebuilding the city and even helping create a more stable government. he bonds really closely with Hunter, mostly because they share the memories of being only known as a clone, or in the shadow of someone from the past.. (for steven it was rose and for hunter it was caleb) Hunter was 18 and Steven was 17 3/4 when they met. When Steven was about 18 1/2 they started dating and during that time he didn’t stay in that room, but they definitely kept in contact us such Hunter cannot travel through those bridges because he does not have that power even though he has the power of flapjack, he doesn’t have enough powers he’s not that strong. White diamond frequently is in contact with Bill cipher so she has technology which can span across multiple different earths/universes. He’s also very close to other characters such as Eda, camila (he never had a really stable mother figure in his life because pearl was always in the mourning and when he found out about the fusion with Garnet, it got a little chaotic) vee, luz and gus. he does decide in the future for a couple years to actually move there to be closer to his newfound friends and boyfriend. and that’s really it repost if want more!!

Some things I want to say:

•Chiharu's caption is supposed to be "Yeets himself" but it would look weirder if I added another text with an obviously different font. It would look out of place like the *doesn't care* caption I added. Do you guys think I should add it?

•WARNING:SPOILER AHEAD FOR THOSE THAT HAVEN'T DONE CHIHARU'S ROUTE. For why "yeets himself", it is a reference to that time when he and the MC are finally gonna meet personally. He asked for her name and realized that the girl he is crushing on and his "penpal" or e-mail pal in this case, is the same person so he got shy and left MC(￣▽￣*)

•Hibiya is supposed to be on the "Thanks" response but three pictures makes a pyramid and when I tried it, it didn't look so good so I had to put him on the *laughs nervously* response beside Tamami. It's also a good alternative because he might be awkward when receiving love letters or confessions from his juniors.

Also, I had to type this all again because I opened a new tab to search something and when I came back, it was all gone! (╯°□°）╯︵ ┻━┻

Adobe’s professional software has long struck me as unnecessarily clunky and complex. Adobe Premiere, Illustrator, Photoshop and other such apps are powerful, but daunting for beginners to learn.

So I was surprised to discover that Adobe Spark Video is one of the best free apps for making a quick slideshow-style video. It’s part of a suite of apps that Adobe recently started calling Creative Cloud Express. The company actually now refers to Spark Video as “Adobe Creative Cloud Express online video maker,” which is a clunky name.

Despite the awkward title, it’s worth a look. I’ve used a dozen or so video apps over the past few years, and this is one I keep coming back to, particularly to create short narrated slideshow videos

It lacks advanced features for complex editing, so Spark Video is best for beginners or those looking for something quick and easy. Read on for what’s most useful about it and how to get started.

Spark Video’s Brst Features

Original footage is optional. Many video apps require you to start with photos or videos from your phone. When using those apps, if you’re trying to create something not pegged to your own images, you’re stuck.

Works on desktop and mobile devices. You can start something on your phone, then finish it on your computer. That flexibility is helpful if you have some images in one place and others somewhere else. Or if you are away from your laptop and want to make a fix to your video.

Simple, clean templates. Some apps lack professional-looking, clean text styles. Or give you an overwhelming number of options. Spark Video has nine basic themes, all of which are solid. You can easily resize text or move it around.

Easy export. Share a link to your video when you’re done, post it to a social platform, or or download it to your camera roll.

Narrate to add your voice. A big narration button makes it easy to add your own voiceover after you’ve chosen images, videos or text for your slideshow.

Pricing: It’s free unless you need advanced features. For $10/month you get 100gb of storage space, and the ability to add your own logo, colors, fonts and branding. The free version works fine for me. For what it offers, the premium subscription seems overpriced.

6 STEPS to Make a Video With Spark Video

Add a text title for the start of your video, plus whatever other text cards you want.

Pick images or video clips from your phone or computer.

If you don’t have images that match your subject, search the app’s free image library.

Adjust the music or replace it with your own.

Record an optional narration to give the video a personal perspective.

Export and share.

Tips

Try the Noir, Tidal and Statement themes, but skip the Sage theme, with its amateurish cursive styling.

Try alternating text cards with images or short video clips for varied pacing.

For work-related videos use the icons offered as decorative elements sparingly, if at all, to avoid resonances of clip art.

Limitations

When you share a link to your video, it shows up on a page with Adobe branding on it.

The app lacks special effects or advanced editing functions.

It’s best for short videos. If you’re working on something longer than a few minutes, you’re better off with one of the alternatives below.

Alternatives

Quik is another superfast video creation app. It stitches together a video with no manual edits required if you want to create something automatically out of footage on your phone. It’s best if you have your own footage and prefer music video-style cuts over Spark Video’s more traditional slideshow style. It’s free for iOS and Android.

Apple’s Clips is an underappreciated app that comes with the iPhone. It has an unusual editing interface but has some unique special features, like adding caption text automatically while you narrate, and allowing you to add backgrounds to your video without having a green screen.

Videoshop is a great full-featured video editor for iOS or Android that includes advanced features Spark Video lacks, like color correction, filters, slow motion, gifs, stickers and animated titles. Despite having lots of features, it’s easy to use. For intermediate and advanced video editors, this works well.

Adobe competitors like Figma and Sketch have gained popularity in recent years partly because they’ve emphasized ease of use and collaboration. And they’re less corporate. Adobe has responded by creating new products like Spark Video that are great for novices.
