#always tagging drarry for no apparent reason
mxlfoydraco · 1 year
Note
hey! pretty new to the fandom and I’m looking for some specific fic that I cannot find through the tags on ao3. so I’m hoping you would be the place to ask, if not no worries <3 so I’m looking for drarry fic where they are at least 30 years old. like that's it, I just really love when they're older and find each other. if you happen to to know any good ones id love to hear. hope you have a good day!
I think they are 30 and/or over 30 in these but also the cut off can be iffy so be nice to me and nod along if there's a late 20s or sth in the mix
Make Me a Headline (I Want to Be That Bold) by @dictacontrion (31k)
Draco never expected to see Harry doing that again. Especially with someone else, in a grainy photograph that's landed on his desk one Monday morning.
Pocket Full of Starlights (Never Let It Fade Away) by @femmequixotic and @noeeon (46k)
When Scorpius Malfoy and Jamie Potter meet at Quidditch camp, they take an instant dislike to each other. Then they discover their lives are more connected than they could possibly imagine.
A Private Reason for This by @femmequixotic (92k)
When the wife of a star politician in the Scottish Ministry turns up dead just outside Hogsmeade, Draco Malfoy and his murder investigation team are called in from the Edinburgh Auror force to find her killer. What DCI Malfoy doesn't expect, however, is to have an ex from two decades past end up in his murder room, endangering not only his case, but also his heart.
The One You Feed by @sweet-s0rr0w (10k)
Draco's been a werewolf for almost twenty years now, and he's an expert in helping new werewolves adapt to the change. He's seen it all before - or so he thinks, until his newest client, a recently turned Harry Potter, arrives on his doorstep.
Paper Rings by @lettersbyelise (50k)
When Harry’s in need of a divorce lawyer, he has no choice but to turn to the best in the trade. Draco Malfoy’s reputation for discretion is flawless, and his track record for winning cases is close to perfect. But he’s also ruthless, passionate, and as infuriating as ever, and the brief relationship he and Harry had in Eighth Year still feels painfully fresh despite two decades spent apart. What Harry and Draco used to be is all in the past. And surely they can work together in these new, emotionally charged circumstances without falling in love all over again… can’t they?
Number Seven by sara_holmes (253k)
Harry already has small children, an ex-wife, annoying colleagues and an international crime ring to deal with. So when Draco Malfoy reappears after eight years AWOL in France, of course Harry is going to leave him well alone… Right?
Turn by Saras_Girl (306k)
One good turn always deserves another. Apparently.
Blood and Fire by @lqtraintracks (44k)
Harry has spent the last twelve years in Romania, not returning to England as often as he knows he should. It's complicated. But when Ginny asks him to be her best man and help her plan her wedding, he can't say no. Having a reckoning with his choices, with himself, won't be easy. To say nothing of seeing Draco again.
All Life is Yours to Miss by Saras_Girl (114k)
Professor Malfoy’s world is contained, controlled, and as solitary as he can make it, but when an act of petty revenge goes horribly awry, he and his trusty six-legged friend are thrown into Hogwarts life at the deep end and must learn to live, love and let go.
Historians by @oknowkiss (29k)
It’s the Dumbledore’s Army Reunion Holiday, and Harry’s found himself in hot water with his friends once again, after telling them he has a boyfriend he definitely does not have. In an attempt to fix things, he’s made it his colleague on Level Nine, Draco Malfoy’s problem too. Featuring a ski chalet in Switzerland, a pair of bunk beds, and an agreement that should’ve been simple, were it not for all the bloody feelings getting in the way.
Take a Sad Song (And Make it Better) by @femmequixotic (48k)
The last thing Harry wants is to lose his kids.
Albus Getting Married by @violetclarity(6k)
Albus and Scorpius are getting married, and they’ve put Harry and Draco in charge of the reception. Which is fine with Harry. Really, it is. He’s not holding on to childhood grudges anymore...but he can’t stop thinking about that one kiss. And dating your son’s fiancé’s father is really, really not on.
The Wonder of You by @ladderofyears (72k)
A Family Man AU. In the year 2000, Harry left Draco behind in London, intent on America and Quidditch fame and never looked back. Thirteen years later, Harry gets the opportunity to see what his life could have been like, had his life unravelled in a different way. Nothing in Harry’s world is the same, but Harry soon comes to realise that fatherhood, marriage and the biggest, laziest Crup in Hogsmeade add to up a life he enjoys more than he could ever have imagined.
The Man Who Lived by @e-sebastian (253k)
Draco breaks a cup, and one thing leads to another. A story of redemption, tattoos, dreams, mistakes, green eyes, long conversations, and copious amounts of coffee.
Set in New York twelve years after the war.
Burn the Witch by @lettersbyelise (95k)
When Harry Potter is sent in to investigate Draco Malfoy’s successful potions company, posing as Draco’s bodyguard, he doesn’t know the case will launch a series of events that will change his life — and Draco’s.
A story about choices, scars, Chopin piano pieces, and finding all kinds of love in the most unexpected places.
Are You Mine? series by gracerene (91k)
A trilogy of fics set in an Epilogue-Compliant Harry Potter 'Verse, with various accompanying time-stamps and one-shots. Fics are in chronological order.
*They are first together younger and then get back together later
Shibboleths by @lol-zeitgeistic (109k)
Muggle Immersion co-Professor Harry Potter spends his days hanging with his son, reading to his “dog,” teaching magical kids about the internet with his cousin Dudley, and irritating Snape’s portrait. He’s understandably annoyed when his cosy life is interrupted by the Headmistress hiring on Draco Malfoy to be Hogwarts’ new Ancient Magical Cultures and Spellcasting professor. But then the explosion happens, and it turns out they’ll all need Malfoy’s knowledge if they want the magical world to survive. The one with the scary things and Professor Dudley.
when by now and tree by leaf by @aibidil (46k)
When Scorpius Malfoy is saying goodbye to his dying mother, he doesn't expect to hear her confess, "Your father slept with another man and became pregnant with you." Grappling with his grief and his identity, Scorpius sets out to discover his other father, who it turns out has a lighting-shaped scar and no idea that Scorpius exists.
When Times are Dire by @aibidil (130k)
Magical Britain is screwed, and it’s once again up to Harry to save it. This time, by marrying Draco Malfoy.
Father of the Bride by November Snowflake (29k)
Harry’s little girl is getting married, and the identity of her chosen suitor is about to open up a world of complications—for better and for worse.
Harry Potter and the Great Cat Caper by @kbrick (78k)
Harry's lonely in the aftermath of his divorce. Except for the weekends that he has the kids, Harry's cooking gourmet meals for one in his big, empty farmhouse, with only his seven cats for company. Until, that is, Harry finds Al and Lily playing with Scorpius Malfoy in the front yard, and learns that Draco Malfoy is his closest wizarding neighbor. Oh, and also, Harry's favorite cat is stolen (multiple times!) by someone who had the audacity to put a sparkly pink collar on her, with a nametag that reads "Plumeria Seraphin Snugglybug". These things (Malfoy and the cat-snatching) may or may not be related. Featuring: a cat-loving Harry who loves to cook, has playdates with Pansy Parkinson, and tends to rap when he's wasted, and good-dad Draco Malfoy who's still a prat, albeit an irritatingly attractive and charming one. Also featuring: a slew of adorable children, a stolen cat named Stormy, copious amounts of sexual tension, divorce betting pools, amoral yet charismatic Slytherins, peeping-tom Harry, foot massages given while under the influence, Harry's first time with a bloke, and did I mention cats?
More Than That by joosetta (10k)
This is a story about two 52 year old men who refuse to age gracefully.
Harry Potter and the elusive day off by @fuckyoupbk (71k)
Auror Potter needs a fucking break. He is wiped. He is exhausted. He probably didn't intend to put himself into a magical coma but these things happen. And who cares, really? He is comfortable in a house where he has hidden away all the shit he can't deal with. Guaritore Christopher Black is an exceptional psychiatrist with a specialisation in sleep disorders. He is also Draco Malfoy in a Glamour. Minister Hermione Granger knows the dangers and the complications, but she needs her best friend back.
And, On The Other Side, A Welcoming Voice by @blamebrampton (38k)
For twenty years, the official history has told readers that Harry Potter died at the Battle of Hogwarts. The next edition is going to require some significant revisions.
Shine, Even in the Darkness by @raitala (41k)
Harry hasn’t seen Draco for over fifteen years, but now he’s showing up everywhere and Harry is sort of weirdly attracted to him, but that can’t be right?
Across the Multiverse by @hsvh-hp (108k)
Thirteen years after the war, Draco Malfoy is quite happily tucked away in the Department of Mysteries as an Unspeakable. When an Auror disappears through a broken Vanishing Cabinet, it presents the perfect opportunity for Draco's research to finally graduate beyond theory. Unfortunately, Harry Potter will also be along for the ride.
I Do Not Love You by Writ_and_romance (228k)
In 2013, a carefully-designed Obliviation leaves Harry reconfiguring his life and identity without any memories of true love; an act that’s essentially erased Draco Malfoy from his mind despite a wedding band and shared home. In 2000, Draco had expected Pansy’s relationship with Luna to bring the Gryffindors a bit closer to his orbit of quiet, carefully pacifistic existence, but he never expected to navigate such a transparent embrace into a unit of family, friendship, and love. A mystery, two love stories, and a reminder that learning to love never has an end date.
The Strongest Affinity by @eidheann (17k)
Trouble finding a wand for Scorpius leads Harry and Draco to something they never imagined. Career Choices: Harry: Wandmaker; Draco: Single Father/Hermit
The Beauty of Thestrals and Other Unseen Things by @writcraft (63k)
Harry has terrific friends, an amazing girlfriend and his job as Head Auror enables him to work on challenging cases and Ministry reform. He just wishes he could work out why he’s been so out of sorts. When Draco Malfoy is arrested for gross indecency, Harry’s comfortable life begins to unravel. He’s forced to decide if it’s worth risking everything for love in a world where following his heart is a criminal offence.
The Kisses Don’t Count, If No One Else Knows by oldenuf2nb (41k)
Minister for Magic Harry Potter does not love his job. The one bright point in his life is his secret relationship with Quidditch Super Star Draco Malfoy. When they're 'outed' by a peeping tom with a camera, Harry has to decide what's really important.
The Stars Have Courage by @fantalfart (85k)
Draco waited five long years to watch his husband wake up from a coma. He's not ready to meet a Harry with no memory of anything that happened after he died at The Battle of Hogwarts, twelve years ago.
Dwelling on Dreams by @the-sinking-ship (135k)
Draco thought he could avoid Potter for the duration of his brief return to England. He’d stick to his schedule and be back home in Paris, where he belonged, in a few short months. No trouble at all. He had plenty to occupy him, what with the opening of the London branch of his successful apothecary, his innovative research, drinks with Pansy, a backlog of unread potions periodicals. Except Head Auror Potter is everywhere — in Draco’s chair, at his door, in his dreams. All six feet of motorbike-riding, combat-boot-wearing, sex-hair-sporting Saviour of the World packed into one unfairly fetching uniform. Potter won’t leave Draco the bloody hell alone, won’t let him breathe, let him forget, let him sleep. Because no matter how fast Draco Malfoy runs, Harry Potter is always hot on his heels.

Daily Blog July 9, 2023
Happy Sunday! Things on the home-front have calmed down significantly so I've been writing writing writing and a little reading. One of the hardest parts about writing a long chapter fic is the loneliness of it all. Writing is usually a Solo event. There is a huge rush you get (okay that I get) when posting something new. You're excited but also worried that no one will like it. You wait for that first like, bookmark, oh hell for that first comment! But that feeling may only come once or twice a year.
Fandom History Musings:
One time, I did adventure into writing a Drarry murder/mystery story with nine other authors. Level Two: Series 1. We had a 2 producers, a showrunner, 2 mods, editors, artists, and email discussions about who would write which chapter in the plot and have it done on time so the next author could build off of it. Take a look at this Link of Acknowledgements. You can see how much work was done in the background. Most of us authors just wrote. We had it easy. But some did double, triple duty. This is the link to all of the amazing artwork, promo video, promo releases. Even if you don't read the story, the spectacular artwork by @dustmouth-blog, @raitala and @eatingfireflies (epithalamium on LJ) you will truly enjoy! Small warning for one or two NSFW.
I'm I beyond proud that it was completed, that I was a part of it, and that it was very well received, but would I do it again. Absolutely I don't know! The arguments over the plot, the sensitivities, 4 folks dropping out for various reasons, but yet we did persevere. One of our disagreements was what the theme song should be. I suggested something lame and got shot down, which was totally fine. Still love the song, though. @raitala suggested a song by Muse, which many others loved. I hated it. I'd hadn't heard of Muse and what I heard I wasn't a fan. I think of that now and laugh because I love Muse and when I'm writing, they're on my playlist. Sorry @raitala, I was wrong.
What I'm Reading:
I think I should rename What I Read. :)
It took me a few nights to read Some Flowers Bloom in the Dark (271K) by @rockingrobin69. I still have to comment on it *makes note to do so*. This is a very intense and disturbing fic to read, but oh so well done. Here is the author's Summary and Note:
Draco is very seriously entangled with someone he only refers to as Sir, or He in the privacy of his own mind. He's been entangled with Him - obsessively, impossibly - for years now, almost as long as he'd been out of prison. So what if he wasn't exactly happy? He was used to this life by now. He knew what to expect, and even if it wasn't always so great, at least he didn't have to think about Azkaban. He didn't need to be saved by some sloppy-haired git. He didn't need anything. Apparently, Potter didn't care. Why, why must he always ruin everything? *All non-con elements and Dom-Sub tones are not between Harry and Draco. *Rough references of abuse. Past and current non-con. Dark, dark, darkness. Then some light.
This is a dark, difficult story of recovery. It's painful, long, with a lot of angst and panic attacks and traumatic everything, so please consider before you read. Mind the tags for possible triggers.
This is the type of fic that you can't stop reading even though there are times you want to put it down, so you wince, you get frustrated with Draco, you get frustrated with Harry, but mainly you fear for Draco. He's been so damaged, yet, he's alive and persevering in the only way he feels he can. But you as the reader know its not a path that is survivable long term. As the fic moves on, that feeling that something horrible (more horrible than the past) is going to happen and the tension is very palpable. The writing of what Draco's feeling and why is spectacular and You absolutely need to get to that end to see what happens. @rockingrobin69 in the summary says 'some light' at the end. I was so so pleased with the ending. Draco did more than survive.
Drarry Tumblr Fic/Art Resources:
I love @weeklydrarryficrecs! It's always fun to see what story they've picked and some of their thoughts at the end. Especially when it says what type of mood it evokes or need it fulfills. I have a small TBR list so when I'm free to start a new fic, and if what I've saved to read I'm not in the mood for, I can pop over to @weeklydrarryficrecs and find what I'm looking for. I also appreciate the mixups of new and old Drarry fics. The top of my TBR is now Temptation on the Warfront (180K) by Aizarincrims0n (AO3), which was recced 3 days ago. It's a canon rewrite, which I'm really really picky about. Looking forward to later tonight when I can pop into this world.
Note: As I mentioned in my last Blog post, this will no longer be a Daily Blog but more on Random days. I'm hoping to do at least 3 a week.
Hope the week ahead is kind to you,
Romaine

to live for
Draco apparates to “Where Dobby is”, only to find said elf’s grave. At least Aunt Trixie’s knife didn’t hit Potter… Who turns up right when he’s about to leave. So he decides to stay a while longer with this… newfound friend/secret lover.
Tags: Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter, Golden Trio, Post-Malfoy Manor, Draco Malfoy, Harry Potter, RIP Dobby, mild angst with comfort, gay wizard fluff, ✨Their First Kiss✨, just a lakeside Drarry date
A/N: To all this beautiful gayness in the world. Lol- And to my gay bestie. Faun, you'll always be the most casually beautiful, Pinterest-worthy girl in the world ✨ Have a lily from Drarry xx 💐
Tumblr media
It was late at night, he could tell that much from the cold breeze humming from the lakeside. The Golden Trio had just returned from their first and probably last visit to Malfoy Manor. Harry Potter had just climbed into bed after a most tragic burial, and lay there staring up at the canvas roof of the tent.
Merlin’s pants, it had been one mad rollercoaster ride. From being nearly caught by Greyback’s searchers… to Hermione’s hex-disguise on him… to Malfoy lying to save him… to Pettigrew meeting his long overdue end… to Dobby's sacrifice...
Harry hardly had tears left tonight.
The grief and exhaustion was too much. It was so bad for his friends that both had fallen asleep fast. Somehow, he was the only one up.
Nothing new there, I suppose.
The after-effects of Bellatrix Black's torture had been enough to make Hermione pass out onto Ron's lap over dinner. He'd left them both to their own side of the tent, a tinge of satisfaction at the whole ordeal bringing the two closer.
But he couldn't ignore how it only made him feel lonelier.
He shook his head and sat up, giving himself a slow moment of silence to see if he might just feel drowsy. Sleep never came.
He slipped out of the sheets, dragged his feet outside. They had run out of whatever sleeping potion Hermione had, and the muggle sleeping pills were left at their last hideout.
Hands in his pockets, feet buried in the gravel (he ditched his shoes, too much noise), he took in a deep breath of the moist lakeside air and looked up at the sky. The crescent moon hung low overhead, lighting up the blanket of dark grey clouds. The sky wasn’t half as gloomy here as it was back in England. It felt nice. The warmth and brilliance of the moon was sort of a reassurance that he was safe here. That his friends were safe here.
All at once, he was aware of a presence that radiated a feeling of security: a strong feeling of “I’m safe now” washed through him.
Which was new given all he ever thought about was his friends’ safety. Others’. Most of whom he lost.
Ugh, quit brooding, Harry. Let’s just… take a breather, he chided himself, walking across the banks to the little elf's grave. He could feel the warm presence still though he convinced himself it was merely the moon. His fingers wrapped tight around the wand just in case the presence was... deceiving. Another lie.
Nothing had happened by the time he subconsciously stopped beside Dobby's grave. "Hello, Dobby."
The clouds cleared up a bit to shed more moonlight along the lake banks, and that was when he saw. Strings of elegant, shimmering flowers were strung around the headstone, wrapping up the rock firmly and yet tenderly. They were creepers of the finest, sparkliest lilies. The green of their stems and leaves, however, were an oddly familiar shade of dark green... and the flowers themselves had a magical glow to their even more familiar pristine, platinum white.
Tumblr media
Years of duelling and fighting took action and made Harry grip his wand ever so tight ––
But one day of seeing the hidden truth kept him from attacking.
So this was the “comforting presence” lurking in the dark… he lowered his wand.
Harry heard a soft exhale. “You're not going to Sectumsempra me?”
“...you saved my life.”
“Hm. Pity.”
“What are you doing here?" The burning question spilt out of his chapped lips. What abominable reason could possibly bring... HIM... of all people... to this place, at this hour?
Draco Malfoy scoffed. “He was my elf before yours.”
Well, he had a point. Harry waited for any other remarks, any of the usual snarky comments... but none came. So he nodded, sat cross-legged on the sand, subtly shifting to the side. Draco walked into the light at last and Harry caught a glimpse of green turtleneck sweater and black coat. Draco pondered for a minute before sitting right beside the Gryffindor.
Silence.
Both wizards sat there on the sand, staring at the white lilies glowing in the moonlight. Both are nothing but young boys being shoved into a war, left without a choice because of their parents. Both are young adults that were once merely children playing with Dobby secretly, in Malfoy Manor or Privet Drive: because neither family would have allowed it.
Perhaps they both saw this at last. Perhaps they finally grew up. Perhaps that was why Harry waved his hand for a quiet wandless Accio charm.
"Show-off," Draco mumbled when a Firewhiskey bottle flew somewhere out of Ron's secret stash and into Harry's grip. Harry held it out to his once arch-nemesis. The latter hesitated, staring silently at the dark, calloused hand before him.
Harry placed the bottle down, rolling up his sleeves.
“Those flowers—“
“They’re called lilies, scarhead.”
“Right. They’re… nice.”
“If that’s your best attempt at complimenting my magic then no thank you.”
Harry sighed, shaking his head and taking another sip. He HAD to be drunk to be doing any of this. “They’re beautiful. Very.”
“…Thanks.”
“But honestly, what’s with the green sweater?” Harry grinned. “Your mania over your house is far from just pride at this point—“
“It’s my favourite colour. For other reasons. Got a problem?”
“What reasons to make the lilies look that greenish?”
“That was for you, you blasted idiot.”
Green to signify Harry being Dobby’s closest friend? Or green lilies to comfort him? The way this is going, I’ll never know, the green-eyed son of Lily thought to himself, gulping down another two sips of Firewhiskey to calm his spinning head.
Back to the silence.
A slow breeze washed over them, splashing the string of lilies with a bit of moisture, sweeping over the grave. Both Gryffindor and Slytherin watched the draught glitter gold with sand; waltzing across the lake, away from them, over to the hillside. The lakewater splashed against the rocks, tide rising a little with the wind current. The gust of wind took away a lot more than just a pile of sand. Hatred… Coldness...
He downed some more alcohol to hide the sudden smile. Silence was exactly what worked with the both of them, he concluded. They’d probably never be able to talk like normal humans.
“What are you, daydreaming?”
Yep. This is exactly what I meant. “No, I realised we can’t ever talk without sounding like we’re duelling.”
“‘Duelling’. A decent way to phrase it. I’d vote for ‘murdering each other’.”
“Well what do you want me to do, apologise? You started it!”
“You’re the idiot who decided to go against all Slytherins just because of whatever we did as eleven-year-olds on the first day of school!”
“Well I’m sorry but you were being ridiculously rude—“
“I just wanted to befriend you, but all you did was scowl at me, what—“
“Draco.”
“… stop that,” the blond looked away, tossing a handful of grass at him.
Harry blinked in confusion, seeing the tips of the other’s ears gleaming red. “I’m sick of calling you your father’s name, it’s stupid,” he shook his head, delighted he really was drunk. “You’re nothing like him.”
“He reminds me of that everyday, thank you very much.”
“Ugh, I meant you’re more…” Better? Understanding? Handso— What— Harry, get yourself together. “Humane. Than him. You’re better.”
The red crept a little down his neck. “Whatever. Don’t expect me to call you Harry.”
“That would need a miracle,” Harry laughed. “But Draco, I did want to be a friend, you know. I was new to the world, and you were the first I saw at Diagon Alley. When I saw you again at Hogwarts, I was happy, actually.” He scoffed sourly. “Until you decided to ridicule my first friend, that is…”
Draco remained silent, drawing doodles on the sand, having plucked off all the grass nearby.
“You know, your sticky glossy hair never helped your impression, I hated the sleek look.”
That won a laugh. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah. Looks much better now though.”
Draco laughed again, nervously ruffling the back of his head. “You’re drunk bad, aren’t you?”
Harry shrugged and offered the bottle to him.
“I don’t want Firewhiskey.”
“Then what do you want?”
The sparkling platinum head snapped up in surprise, eyeing him to see if he was joking around or if the tone really did mean anything this time. Draco found the eyes a bit too intoxicating, more so than the whiskey bottle below, so he diverted his gaze away from their sharp green and down to the pink, injured lips.
…Bad idea.
“Eyes up here, Draco,” Harry smirked.
“You’re seriously more drunk than I am,” Draco shook his mane. “If you’re such a bloody Gryffindor and you know what I want then I dare you to—“
His slurring words cut off as a pair of hands cupped his face, pulling him closer. Soft, chapstick-covered lips crashed against chapped, dry ones. On reflex, Draco punched his shoulder and grabbed him by the collar, but when Harry didn’t relent — or rather kissed him a little harder — he let go. Let go of the eight years of tension and sat there, eyes shut, drinking it in. He couldn’t help but smirk: Harry seemed to be enjoying himself.
“What are you grinning for? Am I that bad at it?” Harry whispered, pulling away panting.
“Hm, fairly tolerable.”
“What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
“Means you need more practice,” the Slytherin laughed. Wrapping one protective hand around the back of his head and the other cupping his chin, he pushed him onto the sand. Lips felt each other at first, before their tongues danced in a frenzy, like the draught of wind with its pile of sand. Harry found himself straddled and locked in place by a pair of perfect pearl-white arms.
Not that he wanted to move away from this anyway.
Draco didn’t stop either, not until Harry tapped his back to come up for air. The blond rolled off the body underneath him and sat on the sand. Harry sat up to find him deep in thought, head hanging, skin aglow from the rising sun. “Draco?”
“I have to go.”
Harry felt his throat constrict, but nodded his agreement nonetheless. “You can’t stay? You’re not really with them… right?”
Draco shook his head, openly denying it for the first time in his life. “I have no choice, just like you. Mum…” he bit his tongue.
As it finally dawned on Harry why Draco was doing all this, he sighed. “I see. She’d be looking for you then,” he pointed to the specks of sunlight dotting the horizon.
Draco nodded. “I…” He didn’t know what to say, or rather how to. So he rose to his feet, dusted off the sand.
Harry stood too. “Erm,” he held Draco’s shoulders still to leave a light peck on his cheek. The Slytherin blushed hard, punching him lightly in the stomach while the other laughed. “I’ll see you around, Potter.”
“Someday,” Harry nodded back.
And just like the wind, he disappeared.
“Thank you, Dobby,” he whispered, patting the grave. Because had it not been for Dobby, the Gryffindor hero who lost almost everyone, had just found another person to love, to live for.

First Lines
The incomparable @tackytigerfic has started a first lines game and I thought, why not? Find their incredible first lines here
List the first lines of your last 10 stories (if you have fewer than 10, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favorite opening line. Then tag 10 people!
I'll Be Loving You (359 words, hurt/comfort, established relationship). Harry found him on the porch, his knuckles white where he gripped the railing.
Mads (441 words, slice of life, established relationship) Harry shut the door behind him, wrestling himself out of his coat whilst trying not to jostle the box in his arms.
The Love You Find (13.6K, ex-auror partners, roadtrip, getting together) Harry gaped at his partner, unable — or unwilling — to believe that he had heard correctly.
Like This, My Beloved (996 words, pure fluff, established relationship, 1st person POV) I didn’t think I would see you again, after the war.
My Heart Was Unprepared (2.5k, epistolary, kind of, 8th year) 1st September 1998.
All The Time In The World (7k, trans male Harry, coming out, getting together, best boyfriend Draco) Harry gripped the edge of the sink, his knuckles white in his attempts to keep himself grounded.
Still Into You (289 words, established relationship, salt and pepper drarry) They told me that it would fade, this feeling.
Always In My Heart (2.9k, Narcissa-centric, AU in which Lily and Petunia are actually Blacks) Narcissa sat at the Slytherin table, watching intensely as the year's first-year students filed into the Great Hall.
The Strings That Weave Us (1.9k, getting together with the aid of some magical thread and a family tapestry, pink haired Draco) It was all Andromeda’s fault.
With You Between My Arms (2.1k, slice of life, drarry through dances they share, songfic) For reasons known only to herself, McGonagall had decided that a graduation ball was a great idea, as if this class hadn’t been through enough.
Apparently I don't have any pattern at all with first lines - in fact the only pattern here is that almost all of these were written for someone specific. I think my favourite is from Strings, because it makes me laugh. Poor Andromeda.
If you see this, consider yourself tagged. Please tag me if you decide to do this, I can't wait to be exposed to so many great fics I don't know of!

Okay, so these are obviously all smut. As we've established, I rarely read anything without at least a little bit involved, but to be fair, this trope is basically made for it. Don't let that fool you into thinking that smut is the only thing that omegaverse fics can accomplish. I'm very picky about this trope for a reason. It's not often done well in the HP universe, but these are all 5/5 stars on my master list. If you're a fan of a/b/o, then these are all worth checking out.
Embers by shiftylinguini (E, 41k)
Thoughts: This is the best HP Omegaverse fic I've ever read that isn't currently a WiP. I usually don't find that the trope works well for this fandom, but shiftylinguini absolutely made me take that back with this fic. This isn't just about fucking. Harry helps Draco work through the issue of his block when it comes to knotting, but they bond in an incredibly intimate way (emotionally, too, you deviants) in the process. It's in my top ten for a reason. Amazing!
Turn, Drop, Fall by Tessa Crowley (E, 29k)
Thoughts: Mind the tags if any of that isn't your thing. I'll go against the grain and clarify that the Attempted Rape/Noncon isn't between Harry and Draco, and it doesn't go past manhandling. That aside, this fic was riveting and sucked me in from the very first scene. The smut was some of the hottest I've read, and Harry and Draco's interactions were always passionate and very compelling. The pining in this was excruciating, but it was definitely worth it for the happy ending. I highly recommend this. It's a very well written a/b/o fic.
Burning the Ground by lq_traintracks (E, 10k)
Thoughts: This was stupidly hot, and I cannot stress that enough. Draco's concern for Harry, the victim of a werewolf attack, was very apparent from the onset, and one of my absolute favorite parts of this was their banter even in the midst of such a serious situation. The sexual tension was off the charts in this, and the smut was top notch. I highly recommend this one.
This Is How by bixgirl1 (E, 6k)
Thoughts: This was insanely hot. I love that they were working towards friendship before the surprise of Draco's first heat, and it always tickles me how we who love Drarry use their obsession with each other in school as a backdrop for the fact that they're obviously meant for each other. I find the mechanics of a/b/o fascinating, and the author's own hints about how it would work in this AU are interesting. This was a great read.
Tending the Flames by keyflight790 (E, 6k)
Thoughts: This was incredibly hot and sweet all at once. I enjoyed the juxtaposition of serious conversation during them being intimate, how Harry was insistent on convincing Draco that he loved him and wanted him, no one else. I also thought the daddy kink slipped in there was especially nice. And there's incredible fan art, too!
The Songbirds of Avebury Manor by Tessa Crowley (E, 18k)
Thoughts: I loved the roles the author placed everyone in, the characterizations fit the story, and the writing style fit the time period perfectly. The tone was overall incredibly romantic, and I'm a sap who loves that sort of thing. I loved the understated pining, and the bit of intrigue to the plot was a nice way to keep things lively. As stated previously, I don't often see omegaverse fics done well in the HP-verse, so this was a nice treat.
A Late Presentation by SouthronWilding (E, 10k)
Thoughts: I loved Draco's characterization. His reluctance about the whole affair down to him fighting his instincts was very on point. I also appreciated Harry's signing up to be an alpha volunteer. He would do something like that with his 'saving people thing'. I also really appreciated the moments of vulnerability throughout this, and the smut was both hot and intimate. There's a sequel in the works, but it's still a WiP and hasn’t been updated in quite some time.
Rut Mentoring Services Rendered by kitty_fic (E, 3k)
Thoughts: I loved how Harry and Draco both felt in character, the scenario itself was utterly believable, and so much of their history was covered so succinctly. That was brilliantly done. I felt like I got a lot more fic in only 3k. Their chemistry was undeniable, and the sex itself was filthy and hot and perfect. Excellent PWP!
Heat of the Moment by Writcraft (E, 2k)
Thoughts: It would be just like Draco to avoid the hell out of Harry until he absolutely couldn't anymore. The intensity of the feelings in this were incredible, and the urgency of the sex was hot and delightful, tempered nicely by Harry's concern for Draco and his need to make the frown between his eyebrows go away. Everything Writcraft touches turns to gold. Loved this.
The Lily Spell by pickledghost (E, 86k)
Thoughts: This was so incredibly lovely. I adore omegaverse fics done well, and I really enjoyed this one. I didn't mind Draco's characterization being OOC at all. I loved it, actually. He was so sweet I just couldn't get enough of him. Harry's characterization was great, too. It was a very realistic interpretation of how Harry might've turned out if there'd been no second war. He was still very much himself at his core, just more confident and self-assured, I think. I loved how protective he was of Draco from the very beginning. The slow burn was so well done that I didn't even notice the passage of time while I was glued to the story. It hooked me in and kept me invested from start to finish. The smut was both hot and incredibly fully of emotion. I can’t recommend this highly enough. It was wonderfully done.

Yeah... I think that’s pretty self-explanatory.
I actually decided on this LAST week when 75% of my warm and cozy recs were smutty.
I’ll say, from a writing perspective, I have some themes I enjoy as a writer. Coming in pants. Public or semipublic sex. First times. Healthy communication. And since I do write a lot of explicit stuff, I think I’ll be mostly reccing more recent things. Some may have already been rec’d in this series, sorry - and wow, limiting myself is tough on this one!
As always, please read the tags!
So, without further ado...
Drarry Smutty Recs
it's always darkest before the dawn (6300 words, for @phoebe-delia and @julcheninred)
featuring some hurt/comfort, good communication, and mirror sex!
Drawn to You (4023 words, for @andithiel)
aka how to make a ministry gala way less boring!
Watch Out (here I come) (4047 words, for @slytherco)
Work holiday parties. Apparently I was on a bit of a facials kick for owlpost.
The Only Thing That Matters (2924, for @lqtraintracks)
My rage-written contribution to the bottom!Harry discourse (probably the only time you’ll find me tagging that)
Slide Over Here (Give Me a Moment) (5499, entirely for me)
Rural Vermont! Antique dildos! THERE WAS ONLY ONE BED.
Larry Smutty Recs
The Pursuit of Knowledge (7007 words)
Written for the 50 Reasons Fest, Reason # 4 - Your Friend Told You About a New Position. Established relationship, imperfect and very real sex.
Wherever I Go (You Go With Me) (11, 021 words)
Part of the 1000 Feelings For Which There Are No Names challenges, 672: "The worry that everything's already been said." Middle-aged men like sex too, you know. Total misrepresentation of the ALA Conference.
Feels Good on My Lips (8114 words, for @lululawrence)
High school reunion. Harry kicks ass!!
By the Light of the Moon (12040 words, for @londonfoginacup)
Magic! Curses! A Really Important Blowjob!
no heart for me like yours (no love for you like mine) (46,563 words)
I very rarely write enemies to lovers, but this was written for a prompt from the Reverse Bang. Lots of pain and miscommunication and also wedding planning.

There was a pop of apparition from the bedroom, and Ron sat up with a frown.
“What-?” Harry said pushing himself up for slowly.
Ron held out a hand, “Just give it a minute. Hermione only apparates into the bedroom if it’s been a bad day.”
“Should I go then?” Harry asked.
“If you want to, but I think Hermione would rather see you than not,” Ron said.
Harry nodded, and when Ron got up and started setting up the table for dinner, he went and helped. By the time they both sat down, the food steaming gently and smelling fantastic, the bedroom door cracked open, and Hermione silently emerged. She had changed out of her work robes into soft pyjama bottoms and a baggy t-shirt that was probably Ron’s by the size.
She sat beside Ron and sagged against his shoulder.
“So, what happened?” Ron asked.
“Don’t want to talk about it,” Hermione grumbled, glancing across the table, “Hi, Harry. Sorry, I’m in a bad mood today.”
“ S’alright,” Harry said around a bite of lamb curry.
“You never want to talk about, ‘Mione, but you always feel better after you do. It’s just gonna build up and burst out of you later anyway,” Ron said.
Hermione sighed, “Why do you have to know me so well?”
“I don’t know, I suppose for the same reason you know me so well,” Ron said.
“Cause you’ve known one another since you were eleven?” Harry said with a tinge of sarcasm.
Ron looked at him flatly, “Or cause I love her to bits.”
“Ugh,” Harry said, rolling his eyes, knowing full well he walked right into it.
“I love her so much, mate,” Ron went on relentlessly.
Hermione smiled a bit which only encouraged him.
“She’s my stars and heart and, err, the pearls of my… eyes? Heart? Nah, I used that one already.”
Hermione laughed and sat up a bit straighter.
“Light of my life! That’s the one!” Ron said.
Hermione smacked his arm lightly, “Cut it out.”
Ron leaned close and whispered something in her ear that made Hermione look hopelessly embarrassed and fond.
Harry held his tongue because he really didn’t want to hear anything more, especially if it involved blushing.
Ron grabbed a carton of food, “You want the tikka or the veg curry?”
“Veg- well, is it mild?” Hermione asked.
“No,” Ron said, scooping out the vegetable curry onto her plate, “I learned my lesson last time. I ordered medium heat.”
“Thank you, it looks wonderful,” Hermione said.
They ate, a little pool of silence filling up between them. Harry always wished Ron and Hermione had a wireless, just some sort of noise in the background. Eating in silence always made him a little nervous, but Ron was relaxed, even looking like he was going to have a bit of fun.
The fun came when Hermione suddenly put down her spoon and pushed her plate away from herself, “I’m going to have a bit of an outburst now.”
Ron nodded, and Harry watched as Hermione took her open hands and smacked them repeatedly and loudly on the table, accompanied by a yell of frustration that all in all sounded like a mix between what you hear at night alone in the forest right before you die and the despairing wail of five-year-old who has just dropped their ice cream cone on the ground.
Hermione panted as her hair, a messy halo of curls, settled down around her face.
“Feel better?” Ron asked.
“A bit,” Hermione said, she looked at Harry with an apologetic smile, “I’m not allowed to get angry at work. If you do, they ask if you’re menstruating. And I’d rather be frustrated than condescend to.”
Harry nodded silently. Back in school if they told Hermione to calm down when she was angry, they risked being swarmed by birds or having a carrot shoved up their nose. Unfortunately, the Ministry  didn’t approve of that sort of thing and might decide you didn’t need the job they’d so graciously given you.
“Was it Sir Suirup again?” Ron asked.
“What?” Harry said with a laugh.
Hermione nodded, “The Sir is a preference, he’s not been knighted no matter what he likes to think, but he’s one of the committee heads that approve proposals.”
“But his name,” Harry insisted.
“I think his full name is, Sir Salas Suirup?” Hermione said, “Do you-”
Harry cut her off with a laugh, “That’s his name?”
Ron raised an eyebrow, “A lot of wizarding families have weird naming traditions.”
Harry shook his head, “No, no- It sounds a lot like parseltongue-”
Ron sat forward, “What’s it mean?”
“Uh, well, the best translation I can come up with would be...” Harry grinned, “Fart-eater.”
Ron clapped his hands together, cracking up as Hermione snickered.
“Oh, how am I going to keep from calling him that to his face!” Hermione said.
Harry shrugged, “I mean, you already are in parseltongue.”
“Fart-eater,” Hermione said, breaking into giggles again.

A Drarry Rec List - My Favourite Fics to Reread
The past few weeks have been a bit shitty, and I found myself falling back on old favourite fics, which made me think it was high time I did a rec list of my favourite fics to reread. I'm a big rereader, so this is just a small sample of the fics I revisit again and again, but this would have been a very long list if I hadn't stopped myself! I also plan to do a similar list for my other favourite ships.
The Full Four Seasons by @ravenclawsquill E | ~49k | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: Draco Malfoy just wants a quiet life. He has a successful business, a lovely wife, and a delightfully horrible circle of friends. He’s fine. Or, he was fine until Harry Potter thundered into his life with all the subtlety of a blast-ended skrewt and turned everything on its head. Now he’s beginning to wonder if ‘fine’ is enough, after all.
There’s just so much I love about this fic. The career choices for both Harry and Draco are fantastic, the way really tricky subjects are explored so sensitively and tenderly, and the way Harry and Draco interact, from the first tentative conversations to the brilliant UST that develops between them. The story sucks me in so completely every time I read it and I end up lost in it, unable to stop reading until I reach the end.
Turn by Saras_Girl E | ~300k | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: One good turn always deserves another. Apparently.
I mean, what is there to say about this fic that hasn’t already been said. It’s an absolute fandom classic, for good reason, and will always be one of those fics I turn back to when I need to sink into a meaty fic that reminds me why I started reading Drarry fics in the first place
Tales from the Special Branch series by @femmequixotic E | 5 parts | ~1.2m | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: When Gawain Robards asks him to form Special Branch seven-four-alpha, Harry Potter knows they'll have to work outside the confines of the law--even though they are the law.
These fics are perhaps the best auror partners fics I’ve ever read. The relationship between Draco and Harry is hot and perfect, the OCs are incredible, the plot really clever and totally absorbing, and the smut smoking hot. Special Branch seven-four-alpha have completely stolen my heart, and I love reliving their adventures.
Little Compton Street (One Rainy Night in Soho) by @writcraft E | ~65k | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: Draco is lonely, Harry hates the press and it won’t stop raining in London. Harry discovers a magical street that’s close to disappearing forever and Draco realises he’s one rainy night in Soho away from finding everything he’s been searching for.
I adore this fic. The world of Little Compton Street is so magical and wonderful and beautifully described - it feels so so real. Writ deals with difficult topics so wonderfully and sensitively, and I always feel like I learn more about queer history each time I read their fics. The slow burn between Harry and Draco is done so well, their conversations so real and believable that you get completely absorbed in their developing relationship. I could spend hours lost in the world of Little Compton Street, and the other fics in the series are fantastic too.
Love Him More by @bixgirl1 E | ~17.6k | Draco x Harry, Hermione x Harry, Hermione x Ron | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: A love story. Several of them, really.
This fic always feels so real and raw to me, a really brilliant exploration of love in all it’s complex forms. All the relationships are perfectly developed, and Harry’s emotions come through so well - I always end this fic feeling a whole bunch of complicated but eventually hopeful feelings. Plus the smut (both het and slash) is so hot.
Stop All the Clocks (This Is the Last Time I’m Leaving Without You) by @firethesound E | ~45k | MCD | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: Living with Draco was difficult; living without him is unbearable. But if there’s one thing Harry learned from the war, it’s that even when one life ends, the rest of the world goes right on living.
Oh this fic. It breaks my heart every damn time, but I just can’t get enough. It’s absolutely one of my favourite fics of all time, and it’s stayed with me since the first time I read it. There are certain images (I won’t spoil them) that make me want to cry every time I think about them, this fic is just that good at tearing your heart out (in a good way, to me at least!). I will always always rec this fic so hard.
Blood and Fire by @lqtraintracks E | ~45k | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: Harry has spent the last twelve years in Romania, not returning to England as often as he knows he should. It's complicated. But when Ginny asks him to be her best man and help her plan her wedding, he can't say no. Having a reckoning with his choices, with himself, won't be easy. To say nothing of seeing Draco again.
I love getting back together fics, and this is one of my favourites. I love the idea of Harry going to Romania and oof Harry with dragons is a hot image. I’m a big Ginny fan and this fic treats her so well - it’s lovely to see her happy and friends with Harry. The tension between Harry and Draco is delicious, and the sex is just incredible.
Freedom to be by @quicksilvermaid   E | ~170k | Full warnings and tags on AO3
Summary: Harry Potter is the Boy Who Lived. 12 years after the war, he's become the Boy Who Lived For Everyone Else. He has the perfect wife. The perfect house. The perfect job. The perfect friends. Only nothing feels perfect. Until one day he stumbles across a club called Release and begins a journey of self-discovery that takes him to a very different place.
I started reading this fic while it was being published and fell hard and fast. I reread it for the first time while it was still a WIP - I decided to reread the whole thing when the final chapter published, so I could get the full effect of the fic. Q has written such an incredible fic here, that touches on trauma and guilt and relationship breakdown so perfectly, all while having a brilliant slow burn relationship between Draco and Harry. It’s angsty and hot and you really should read it.
I’d love to hear about the fics that everyone else on Tumblr likes to reread too - I’m always looking for more amazing things to read!

All in the Family
Chapters: 1/1 Words: 4,150 Fandom: Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling Rating: Teen And Up Audiences Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply Relationships: Luna Lovegood/Ginny Weasley, Draco Malfoy/Harry Potter Characters: Ginny Weasley, Luna Lovegood, Draco Malfoy Additional Tags: Harry Potter Epilogue What Epilogue | EWE, Post-Canon, Established Relationship, Both Linny and Drarry, Meet the Family, The Talk, Mentions of Ginny having tattoos, because she'd look awesome in tattoos and i just had to add that in, POV Ginny Weasley, POV Draco Malfoy
Summary: There comes a time in many romantic relationships when you have to meet the family. It’s usually nerve-wracking and awkward and something to be dreaded. Take a peek into Ginny’s and Draco’s minds during this step.
Story:
Ginny took a deep breath and squinted at her image in the mirror. She looked like her usual self, but a little neater: hair in a sleek ponytail, skin tanned from hours of practice and games, far too many freckles for her liking, but not a thing she could help, brightly colored tattoos wiggling on her arms. She smoothed hands over cropped jeans that probably sported a few too many holes. Did the green shirt make her look like a Christmas tree? No, Luna called it kelly green, not Christmas green. She said it complimented her skin and freckles, which she liked far better than Ginny did. She smiled at the thought.
“You look lovely, dear,” the mirror told her. But the mirror always said that, being owned by Luna who was (1) Ginny’s girlfriend and therefore prone to overcomplimenting and (2) a ball of sunshine even in the darkest times and would never own a mirror that wasn’t similarly inclined.
“It’s not too butch? Is it butch enough? I need to give the perfect impression here: respectable but not a floor mat. Meeting the family doesn’t happen every day.”
“You look like a beautiful summer day.”
Ginny huffed. Help would not come from this corner, apparently. She was about to call in her girlfriend, but Luna must have felt Ginny’s need, as she somehow always did, because she wandered in just then, putting on her earrings as she walked. She beamed.
“You look like a beautiful summer day!”
Ginny could feel the mirror puffing up behind her. She rolled her eyes.
“But is it good for a first impression?”
Keep reading below the cut
Luna frowned and tilted her head. “But it’s not a first impression. You’ve known him for years.”
“But not …” Ginny began, waving her arms when the words wouldn’t come. “Not like this. With romantic intention or whatever.” She wiped sweaty hands on her trousers again. “I have to give off a specific impression today. I have to be firm but, ugh, friendly.”
“You’re always friendly.” Luna smiled dreamily. “I remember when we first met, when your family invited mine to dinner. Your brothers were so loud, and you were too at first. It was overwhelming. But then you stopped fighting with them and came over to me. You smiled like the sun and said, ‘I like your hat.’”
“It was a very cool hat.”
They hadn’t seen much of each other before Hogwarts, but Ginny had always liked the rare occasions she got to spend with the odd, quiet little girl who was one of her nearest wizarding neighbors. She was so much the opposite of the rowdy Weasleys—calm, thoughtful, so very smart, and most importantly, a girl her age. It was peaceful and fun being with Luna.
Realizing how good being around Luna felt was what made Ginny finally break things off with Harry the year before. Harry was always in slight opposition to whatever life threw at him. Yes, he weathered storms durably, but he was never … comfortable. Content. Even after she talked him out of joining the aurors—which had at least taken off some of the pressure to be the perfect Boy Who Lived Twice—he still seemed restless. Even with Ginny. Especially with Ginny. So she’d let go of her dream of marrying the boy she’d had a crush on for as long as she could remember and soon after had fallen into the arms of someone who made her feel more wanted and loved and perfect than she’d ever felt before. Life was better now, with Luna to help ground her. Perhaps Ginny had been at odds with life too. She and Harry were very alike in some ways.
Which brought her back to her current dilemma.
“I’m not going for happy summer day vibes, though.”
Luna’s eyebrows crinkled. “What vibes are you aiming for then?”
Ginny rubbed an arm. “Ummm. Respectable but intimidating?” At the skeptical look from her girlfriend, she continued. “I can be intimidating.”
Luna smiled softly and laid her hands on Ginny’s cheeks. “Of course you are. You wouldn’t be a starting chaser for the Holyhead Harpies if you weren’t intimidating.”
Ginny snorted. “Are you ever going to get tired of stating my full position title? I was moved up to starter, like, four months ago.”
“Never!” Luna said with a grin.
After giving her a quick peck on the lips, Ginny turned back to the mirror, and Luna put her arms around her waist from behind. “Why do you need to be intimidating for family dinner?”
“Because it’s not just family dinner. It’s meet the family dinner. I have to give the right impression.”
“Which would be intimidating?” Luna’s breath and the vibration of her voice tickled Ginny’s neck. She liked it.
“Yes.”
“Even though you’ve met before. Many times.”
“Yes.”
There was a pause. “I still don’t get it.”
Ginny sighed and turned in her girlfriend’s arms. “This is Harry.”
“Whom you’ve known since you were ten. Whom you’ve dated. Twice.”
“I don’t want to intimidate Harry.”
Understanding smoothed out Luna’s face and widened her eyes. “Oh. You’re protective of him.”
“Yes!”
“Is Draco intimidatable?”
“Is intimidatable a word?”
“It is now.”
“Then yes, he is. I remember his pointy little ferret face completely blanching when I threatened him with hexes.” Good times …
“Your bat bogey hex is pretty frightening. Also, you should be nice.”
“It’s fucking Malfoy. I’m still not sure how Harry is even dating him. And I’m ninety percent sure I don’t like that they’re dating. Ugh. Malfoy. I’m getting annoyed just thinking about it.” She buried her face in Luna’s shoulder. She smelled like lilacs and sparkles. Ginny wasn’t sure how she managed the latter, but it was true. She smelled like sparkles. It was nice.
“You promised Harry you’d stop hating him. And you promised your father before that.”
“Ugh. I know. But it’s Malfoy. He’s an arse!”
“Ginny.” Luna’s voice turned stern, as it only rarely did, so Ginny straightened up.
“Sorry. I really am trying. It’s just … Harry hated him for so long, and he used to say such mean things to us, especially to Hermione. My brain has trouble believing he’s changed enough for Harry to fall for him. Are you certain he’s not under a spell or love potion?”
“Ginny.”
“Yeah, I know.” She sighed. “He helped you when you were a prisoner at the manor. And he kept Harry from being recognized. It’s just …”
“It’s hard to flip around what you knew about him all through school.”
“Mmm,” Ginny grunted in agreement, going in for another hug. Luna hugs were the best. She always felt so protected and calmed in a Luna hug.
Luna tightened her arms in a squeeze before letting go and stepping back. “I think the dark gray button-down and the obsidian necklace I got you for your birthday, if you’re going for intimidating.”
Ginny raised her eyebrows before shucking the green tee and rifling through the wardrobe for the suggested top instead. “You’re helping me?”
“Well, I was actually going to suggest it anyway. George told me that since Bill isn’t able to come, you should give Draco the ‘you hurt him, and I break your kneecaps’ talk. Ron can’t give it, because he’ll just get yell-y, and he’s not terribly intimidating even like that. And George is afraid he might actually break Draco’s kneecaps, and he can’t go to Azkaban right now, what with the baby on the way. And Percy would just put him to sleep explaining the details.”
Laughing as she buttoned up her shirt, Ginny privately agreed. Being a professional athlete meant she’d had to learn rein in her temper, and she’d always been closest to Bill in temperament anyway. “We could ask Charlie to swoop in on a dragon. That might work.”
“George asked, but apparently he’s busy watching over this year’s births. He offered to send a howler though.” Luna’s expression said that she thought these were perfectly reasonable suggestions.
That sounded about right for her brothers too. “We’ll keep that tactic on reserve in case my intimidation doesn’t work. I dunno about being the one giving the talk, though. I thought I was just going to glare at him across the table all through dinner …” She finished rolling up her sleeves to her elbows, letting the bottom half of her tattoo sleeves show on her forearms. She eyed her image critically. “Better? Are you sure about the necklace? I need to be more butch, don’t I? To be intimidating?”
Luna shook her head, taking the ends of said necklace to clasp them behind Ginny’s neck. “Draco likes classy. He’d probably be more impressed if you wore black trousers, but then you wouldn’t be you.” She wrinkled her nose, and Ginny agreed with the sentiment. She lived in jeans and trainers, only owning black trousers to wear at semi-formal events for work. Not to mention that her brothers, Harry included, would take the mickey if she showed up in something beyond her regular clothes.
She sighed a final time and turned to her girlfriend. “Okay, let’s get this over with. Ugh. But I swear, if he is at all acting like an arsehole, I will cut a bitch.”
***
Draco wiped his sweaty palms on the sofa fabric for the eightieth time in the twenty minutes he’d been at the Weasley abode. He’d met them all before, of course. Most of them had attended school with him. And he’d seen them at his trial. Arthur had even been kind enough to shake his hand after he’d been cleared of the worst of his charges. Granted, it hadn’t been completely out of kindness. Draco’s community service sentence had been to work in Arthur’s office for two years after his release, so he’d also been officially introducing himself as Draco’s supervisor. But even with the formality of it, Arthur had seemed kind. Serious, yes, but not in any way malicious or aloof, which was more than how the Malfoys had addressed the Weasleys in the past.
And Draco had quickly become comfortable around the eccentric man. Arthur might come off as a bit kooky, but he was ever the professional at work, and Draco appreciated that, along with being so thankful that the man wouldn’t continue to punish him for his past (terrible) choices. So yes, he’d worked with Arthur for two years, and gone to school with most of the other Weasleys, but this was different. This wasn’t just dinner with friendly acquaintances (though only Arthur fell into that category), this was meeting the family as the romantic partner of their practically adopted son/brother.
He and Harry hadn’t been dating that long, and the only Weasleys he’d interacted with since the relationship had begun were Percy and Ron. Percy was fine, if a little dry, and even Ron had graduated from angry scowls to only looking like he had a slightly upset stomach. But the other Weasleys were more unknown. Luckily Bill and Charlie were busy, so tonight that only left Molly, George, and Ginny (“if you call her the Weaselette, Draco, I will hurt you,” Luna had warned during their latest tea date). At least he’d had some interactions with Molly and George back when he and Harry were still just friends and he had with Arthur for two years, but Ginny he probably hadn’t said a dozen words to since they’d left school.
So even though the brothers might be intimidating, Ginny was the unknown. Harry swore they were completely over each other, and closer now as almost siblings than they had been as paramours, but Draco wasn’t sure what to think of her. He’d tossed out jealousy pretty early. Harry only ever spoke of her in the fond way of close friends/family. But that still left a lot of unknowns. He’d been on the wrong end of her hexes on several occasions, and she was a chaser for a professional quidditch team (one of the scariest teams out there, no less), so he knew she had both bark and bite. It was likely she’d employ some intimidation tactics, but would it stop there? Was she jealous of him? He didn’t think so, hearing Luna wax poetic about her constantly during their tea dates. But there could still be some genuine hate from her. Nothing he didn’t deserve, though.
He wished Luna and Ginny would just show up already, so he could get this dinner thing over with. Harry warned that there would probably be a “hurt him and I’ll hurt you” threat taking place that evening, but he didn’t know who had drawn the short straw on that. Unless they went in for a four-pronged attack from all of the present siblings. Merlin, he hoped not.
As if he’d summoned them with his thoughts, the two women burst through the door, calling out greetings to everyone else. Ginny headed for the kitchen without a glance at Draco, but Luna brightened further and made a beeline for the sofa.
She gave him a quick hug. “I would say you clean up well except …”
“Except I always look this good?”
“I was going to say except that you could still use some work, but if you want to go with yours, that’s fine. What’s important is that you believe it.” Her smile was deceptively serene, and the glitter in her hair and the fairy necklace didn’t help present her as anything other than innocent. But Draco knew better after years of slowly cultivating their friendship.
Draco clutched his heart in mock hurt. “Harsh. When does the girlfriend start full-time training again? I think you’re spending too much time together.”
Luna’s effervescent smile dimmed a little. “In three weeks. This will be our first full season as a couple. From what I gather, I’ll barely see her between the start of training and their first season game.”
Draco felt similar trepidation. School would be starting soon, and Harry would be a full-time professor for the first time this year. He’d spent the last few years tutoring and job shadowing while waiting for the current DADA professor to retire, so they were somewhat used to being apart as friends, but never as a couple.
(It was odd knowing that Hogwarts had employed the same DADA professor for six years running; odder still to think of perpetual disaster Harry James Potter as a professor. Draco really wished he’d use the hair potion Draco had bought him a few weeks ago; he needed to look more professional, but Harry had argued that if Dumbledore and Snape could get away with long, shaggy hair, so could he. Draco knew a losing argument when he saw one, so he’d given up after a week.)
Beyond Harry’s soon-to-be-full schedule after a summer of freedom, the two of them had only been dating for a few months, and Draco wasn’t sure how the change in daily routine would affect them. Harry tried to subdue the worries, but Draco saw that he was hiding some qualms of his own. They’d each only been in one prior relationship, so there was a chance that any change would break them apart.
Luna, reading his mind, as always, swooped in for another hug. “It’ll be fine,” she whispered in his ear before pulling back. How did she do that? “Your face, silly. You’re an open book. Not to mention, I got to hear you list your worries ad nauseum during tea last week.”
She had him there. “I just want tonight to be over already.”
“Mmmm,” she hummed in sympathy. “I remember how my meet-the-family dinner went. Oh! I wanted to warn you. Ginny’s giving you The Talk tonight.”
Draco leaned back in surprise. “Just her?” If any single one of the Weasleys was going to give him The Talk, he’d have expected one of the older ones, or maybe Ron, because he and Harry were best friends. But Draco had never expected The Talk from solely the youngest (and only female) sibling. Her status as the baby should have kept her out of the running. Just because Draco lived in constant slight terror to this day of being hit by one of her hexes, he didn’t expect the others to feel the same.
“Well, she’s most similar to Bill, isn’t she. The others know you’d respect it more coming from her.”
“Yeah, I reckon. Do you know when she’s going to do it?”
Before she could answer, Ginny entered the sitting room and addressed the others who peppered the space. “George and Ron, Harry and Dad need help outside.”
The two men looked up from where they were brainstorming new ideas for the shop, shrugged, then left the room. Hermione looked up from the baby jumper she was knitting for George and Angelina’s upcoming baby—at least, she said it was a jumper; it looked more like a lumpy blue snowball with arms.
“They’re not still trying to charm the new car, are they?” Ginny gave her a “what do you think” look, and Hermione sighed, dropped the knitting, and followed the others outside.
“I’m going to see if Molly and Angelina want help in the kitchen,” Luna added with a sympathetic look at Draco before hurrying out as well, the traitor.
Draco took a deep breath. “So it’s to be you, then? Lose a bet?”
Ginny looked a little stunned, then reluctantly amused. She dropped down onto the coffee table across from him. “I’d like to think I won.”
She leaned forward to rest her elbows on her knees, and the dragon tattoo on her right arm blew out an inky flame, as if to back her up. She looked more serious than usual, which was enhanced by the dark button-down she wore, so in opposition to her usual bright but scruffy t-shirts. She still sported holey trousers and her grungy trainers, though, but she made it work. Or maybe Draco was just getting inured to the sloppy look, dating someone who wore the same style like a uniform. He looked down to see that he still had on his own high-end trousers and button-down and relaxed a bit in relief.
He waved a hand so she’d get started. The sooner they talked, the sooner they’d be done, the sooner dinner would be done, the sooner he could get back home and revel in the warmth of Harry’s body in bed next to his (Harry called it cuddling, but Draco never would, ugh).
She raised an eyebrow, unimpressed. “Look. I know Dad respects you, so I learned to stop hating you a while ago.” She sighed. “And for whatever strange reason, Luna likes you, so I can admit that you’ve probably changed from the utter fucking dickhead you were in school.”
Draco choked on his own saliva. He’d forgotten she had the same sailor mouth Harry did. Or maybe he’d never known. It shouldn’t have been a surprise, given her whole … persona. Still, Luna was all rainbows and puppies about her, and Harry talked about her like a little sister, so he forgot sometimes that she was an adult and a quidditch star with the mouth to go along with it.
She glared, and he cleared his throat. “Yes, thank you. I appreciate that. Go on.”
“Thanks,” she said with so much sarcasm, he could practically hear the “I hate it” she didn’t voice. “So yeah, you’ve changed. You’re a new fucking man. Bright and shiny new leaves turned over. Whatever.” She sat up straight, her eyes boring through Draco so hard, he expected to feel two dots of heat on his forehead. “I’ll even say I’m okay with you two dating, even though it’s completely weird. I never thought I’d see the day someone in our family dated a Malfoy.”
She spit out his name out in a way that made him think back to an altercation their dads had had in Diagon Alley years ago. Harry had been there too, now that he thought about it. Her tone now was the same as Arthur’s had been then. Trying so hard to be a respectful adult, but barely hiding anger underneath. He didn’t think she was quite as okay as she claimed. He really didn’t blame her. His family was bad news. He shrugged, hoping he’d convey that the idea was still weird to him too. Him. Dating Harry Potter. What alternate universe had they fallen into?
“But Harry really likes you,” she continued, “and I trust him. I think.” A wrinkled eyebrow said otherwise, but Draco kept mum. “He’s an adult, and so if he wants to date you, that’s his prerogative. But know this.” She leaned forward again. “You even look at him wrong, and I’ll dropkick you so hard into last Tuesday, that even if we hadn’t destroyed all of the ministry’s time turners, you still wouldn’t be able to get back. Got it?”
He tried to tell himself they were just words. This was a ritual every new boyfriend went through. It was normal. But then again, this was Harry Potter. Nothing about him was normal, and that included his family. Draco had seen Ginevra Weasley in battle, and he’d been subjected to her hexes in school. She’d dated Harry and must therefore know the feeling of wanting to wrap him in cotton fluff and hide him from the cruel world. They weren’t just words to her. She meant business, and he appreciated that. They both wanted the best for Harry, and if Draco failed to be that, he deserved whatever punishment she and her clan would mete out to him.
“Thank you.”
She jerked her head back and frowned. “What?”
“Harry deserves to have the fiercest warriors in his corner. I’m glad he has friends and family who will be that for him.”
“Hm. Yes, he does.” Despite her words, she looked suspicious.
“And, in that vein,” he continued with a spark of realization, “you hurt Luna, and it’ll take them a month remove all the curses from you.”
She cocked her head for a moment, then relaxed her shoulders and almost smiled. “Deal.”
She held out a hand, and he took it, wondering if his own was about to be crushed so hard, he’d need SkeleGrow to knit his bones back together. Her grip was firm to the point of being uncomfortable, but after they shook, all of his bones still seemed to be in place and whole.
A call came from Molly in the kitchen then, so they both stood, back to feeling slightly awkward with each other. Just as they were about to head through the door, Ginny put a hand on his wrist. Draco looked over at her face in question.
“Um, Harry. He’s … he’s really happy these days. The happiest I’ve ever seen him. Thank you.” Her face was soft, and the most open Draco had ever seen it.
“I’m glad you think so.” Uncomfortable with the serious mood coming from a Weasley, he smirked. “Luna seems to be rubbing off on you as well. I think this is the most cleaned up I’ve ever seen you. Not bad, Weasley the Youngest.”
She barked out a short laugh, then got an evil glint in her eye. “I’m glad you approve, since I stole this shirt from your wardrobe. Who wears such drab colors voluntarily? I’d be getting hives from it if I didn’t have my tats to liven it up.”
He let out a surprised laugh of his own, which was drowned out by the lively mess of humans crowding around the kitchen table. He’d survived The Talk with the scariest Weasley (besides Bill). He felt confident he could survive the rest of the family.
***
After they’d apparated back to their flat, Luna jumped on Ginny to give one of the octopus hugs Ginny loved. After a quick peck on her cheek, Luna snuggled closer. “I love you.”
“I love you too. Any particular reason at this moment, or just my general awesomeness?”
Luna giggled. “You are pretty awesome, but it’s not just that this time.”
Realization dawned in Ginny. “Were you spying on my talk with Mal- Draco?”
“No.” Luna shook her head vehemently, eyes wide. “But I saw the way you two looked when you came into the kitchen afterward.”
“Which was …?” Ginny prepared herself for any number bubbly adjectives about to come out of her girlfriend’s mouth.
“Like two adults who have come to an agreement of mutual respect.”
Eyebrow raised, Ginny only said, quite intelligently, “hmm.”
“But also adorable and chummy. I saw the way you were smiling, Ginevra.”
“And there’s the girlfriend I know and love,” Ginny said drily, but she gave said girlfriend a kiss.
“I’m proud of you.”
Ginny grinned. “Good. I like making you proud.”
Luna hummed. “My respectable, beautiful, starting chaser quidditch star girlfriend.”
“That’s me.”

Fandom ask
Thank you, @bellamort1993 for sending me Harry Potter, Bellamort and Bellatrix as prompts. Feel free to do the same (or different to your choosing).
001 | Send me a fandom and I will tell you my:
Favorite character:  Bellatrix Lestrange and Voldemort. No, I don’t have one favourite. Bella is the closest to my heart, but apparently I waste the most brainmatter on Tom/Voldemort, so *shrugs* Harry is my favourite light character, he’s an admirable person.
Least Favorite character:  Umbridge, as is universally accepted.
5 Favorite ships (canon or non-canon): Bellamort (which is canon, bitches) Delphi/Harry (it will become canon, you just wait for TCC part3) Tomarry but not Harrymort(nearly counts as canon judging by how often Harry comments on Tom’s looks) Drarry  Delphi/Victoire
Character I find most attractive: Bellatrix, hands down. Then Voldemort can do things to me too, but Bella would be my first choice.
Character I would marry: No one, I’m happy by myself. Delphi can be my angsty fuck buddy with whom we meet every once in a while, bitch, get drunk, cry and fuck.
Character I would be best friends with: Harry, tho I’m not the best of friends and his friends do have a high mortality rate for my taste. I wouldn’t mind if Voldemort killed me tho, so *shrugs*
a random thought: The wizarding world makes zero sense in so many places. They haven’t had an Industrial Revolution and they seem to be stuck in the Middle Ages in many ways, even if they dont seem extremely Christian as these times actually were. It’s really confusing. As for their economy? How does that even work if you can conjure a chair out of thin air, or replicate food?
An unpopular opinion:  Idk what’s unpopular these days. Aside from Albus’ name, I actually liked the Epilogue. In contrast to what people thing, it doesn;t show *everything* that happened after the war, meaning it’s no obliged to show the PTSD and the fights and the pain. It just passes the message: depsite everything, in the end they were happy. Not always and not easily, but they lived, and built and did good. And that’s not always possible with survivors. It’s our job as fans to add the rest, all the author needed to do was say ‘yes, they made it out okay.”
My Canon OTP: BELLAMORT Seriously, I have screenshoted the details of TCC where it shows they’re canon.
My Non-canon OTP: Harry/Delphi
Most Badass Character: Bellatrix, handsdown.  McGonagall out of the good people.
Most Epic Villain: Voldemort, we’d have no books without him. He can be dumb, but it’s cute.
Pairing I am not a fan of: I’m not huge in non-canon Hermione ships, and anything with Snape is gross.
Character I feel the writers screwed up (in one way or another): ...Snape? Not his character, but the light she gave him by naming Harry’s kid after him. It appeared she was clear on him not being an admirable person, but then he’s the bravest bloke ever? No, ma’am.
Favourite Friendship: The Golden Trio, they work as a three-man-group better, I won’t devide them.
Character I most identify with: PostAzkaban!Bellatrix feels she’s letting her master and herself down, and so do it. I keep looking for my former self. Who wasn’t much after all, but had some qualities I should recultivate.
Character I wish I could be: ... I’d like to have some Bellamort qualities that I lack, but in general I’m fine working on myself.
002 | Send me a ship and I will tell you:
When I started shipping them:  After I finished the books, so that’s since 2007, 13 cool, angsty years.
My thoughts: I love them, they’re my evil babies. In fact, I don’t even have reasons for loving them, as most shippers do, I’d just die for them.
What makes me happy about them: That theyre complicately made for each other in their unique goth way. And that in the end they had a kid, which I think helped Voldemort out a lot with his issues with intimacy and emotions.
What makes me sad about them:  That they died *sobs hysterically*. Also that they’re proud idiots who don’t communicate well. Also in the books they have like two scenes together. (HE SCREAMED THO)
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Seeing Bella’s character butchered down to a snivelling, slavish idiot, though these aren’t Bellamort fics usually.  In Bellamort fics, it feels like a cheat when it says Bellamort but it’s just Bella pining and Voldemort really not caring. I don’t have a problem with the POV, but it needs to be tagged as unrequited. Otherwise I’m open to perspectives.
Things I look for in fanfic: Good writing, mostly. I’m also a huge fan of Muggle!AU’s, so if you have that, I’ll read it, no questions asked XD
My wishlist: On Amazon? :P I presume this means wishlist on fics/art with these two, but do correct me if I’m wrong. I dont have one, since I write myself, so whatever I want to read, I write. Right now I’m on a bit of a writing hiatus (but don’t take my word for it, my emotional world is fucking rollercoaster), but at some point I’d like to see a mermaid!AU and a lot of exploration between Voldemort and his mother, while Bella holds his hand.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Alone and miserable. I guess Bella would have been okay with Rodolphus, had Tom/Voldemort never been born.  And Voldemort/Tom would have been fine too with some nameless pretty woman he did not love but had to marry to keep face.  But I think that they would have never been truly happy with anyone else. especially Tom, he’d never be really comfortable with anyone.
My happily ever after for them: VoldemortWins!AU, they conquer Europe, Bella is Minister for War, Voldemort the Emperor. Maybe they have a kid, maybe a couple more or none at all, who cares, the point is they live and fulfull their dreams of revolutionising the Wizarding Wolrd.  I also have a sappy afterlife!AU where for a while Bella is imprisoned at the family castle for having a halfblood little bastard, goes half-insane, as Voldemort searches for her (they had a spat right after they got there), and Delphi kills herself and goes to find her dad in small-child form. They finally get tgether and live death happily ever after in some Norwegian fjord in the frozen tundra. (it’s also my personal happy ending, only it’s cats and snakes)
003 | Give me a character & I will tell you:
How I feel about this character: I love Bella. She’s a bitch and a sadist, but I love her.
Any/all the people I ship romantically with this character: The one and only, his majesty the Dark Lord himself.
My favorite non-romantic relationship for this character: Rodolphus, he’s her only friend.  Also, sad HC: Bella was very close to Andromeda until she got too involved with Voldemort and his cause, and they drifted apart. No one wept harder than Bella after Andy left, and it was her who spent days banging on the Tonks’ door to let them speak to her. Voldy could squeeze tears out of his shirt after she fell asleep crying about it.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Again, not sure about unpopular.  I believe she suffers from genuine mental illness that tortures her a lot and makes her life (and her shared life with Voldemort too) very hard. Also I find her more self-doubting and reserved than most authors, hard working and largely indifferent to people who aren’t Voldemort.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Actual romantic scene would have been nice, but HE SCREAMED after all. Let’s not ask for too much.
Favorite friendship for this character: Rodolphus and Andromeda. Recently I’ve started Brotp-ing Sirius with Bella too, before they parted ways.
My crossover ship: I don’t really have any other fandoms, but I have been exploring the world of the Witcher as of late, so I’d love a showdown between Bella and Yen. It’d be so hot.
Well, this was fun! Thanks, @bellamort1993 for sending the ask. I have this feeling that I’ve replied to this before, but for some reason it’s still in my drafts, so I’m posting it. If you’ve seen it before, I apologise for bothering you...

The Significance of Moving On

_______________________
Potter had said, “Let’s be friends.” He looked at Draco meaningfully, as if this was something Draco was supposed to naturally understand. _______________________
Potter brought him to the forest, once. The forbidden one where ‘it’ happened.
He told him what had happened there, but Draco didn’t really care, not in the way that someone was supposed to. It wasn't that he didn't care about Potter, because he did. He cared for Potter. The rest, however, Draco would rather remember less of. Except, the Dark Lord was hard to forget.
If anything, what this forest meant to Draco were of two different things than what it had meant to Potter: the first of which was the significance of his mother’s choice; the second was that this was the place Potter brought him in resolution of moving on from their school rivalry.
Draco had asked him why he was telling him all of this. It certainly wasn't of any particular relevance to what was then a bare-bones acquaintanceship for work.
Potter had said, “Let’s be friends.” He'd shifted his weight from foot to foot in that awkward way of his, one hand mussing up his hair. “We’re moving on. All of us.” He looked at Draco meaningfully, as if this was something Draco was supposed to naturally understand.
Well, Draco didn’t understand, not in the instinctual way he supposed Potter had meant. However, he’d been raised to act a certain way, so Draco agreed -- and that was that.
It’d been months now. Potter’s hair was still unruly as ever. He’d spent so much time just staring at the dastardly tuft atop a single Golden Boy that it practically communicated its own language to him.
“Potter,” said Draco. “Robards wants the papers on the recent potions trafficking case, get on it before he sends me back to you every hour like a blasted reminder remembrall.”
“What? As if I didn’t send those to him yesterday!”
“The proper papers, Potter. Not the brief summary of what you -- lead Auror on the case, mind -- believe to be relevant. The whole and complete thing.” When his fellow Auror failed to respond, Draco exhaled and stuck out his open hand.
“I don’t have it right now,” said Potter, unmoved.
“I know. Just give me the papers you do have and I’ll do it.” Draco gestured with his hands to further illustrate his point. It was hard getting through to Potter sometimes. It was clear by the cowlick at the back of Potter’s head that he didn’t get enough sleep last night.
“What do you mean?”
Draco sighed. “You know what I mean, give it over. We both know you don’t want to do it. Just let me handle it, it’ll be quicker for both of us, then we can both get on with our lives.”
“Right...” Potter was reluctant, but eventually, after a nonplussed brow arch and eye rolls full of criticism, Harry finally handed Draco the papers. He looked at Draco oddly, but Draco thought little of it.
The man didn’t want to do it, clearly. Forcing him when Draco knew he’d probably do a crap job of it anyway was just a god awful method of making people do more work. It wasn’t as though Draco didn’t understand Potter’s dislike of paperwork. There were many things that Draco didn’t want to do, paperwork, well, was one of the lesser evil. Time saved for both of them, and no more Robards on his arse. It was simply easier.
Draco left Potter there, looking slightly suspicious and befuddled, but honestly, that just made Draco snort. Though Draco may now be a goon himself, an inferior doing things for other superior people instead of the opposite; it wasn’t as bad as people believed it to be. It became routine. It was peaceful.
It was later at night, when he had his reading glasses on and he was sifting through the pile of evidence for the illegal potion trafficking case Robards wanted, that Harry James Potter knocked on his office door.
“Potter, it’s not locked.” Not that locked doors had any meaning to a slew of Aurors. “Come in.”
Harry shuffled in, his shiny, new dragonhide boots scooting through the doorway first (lucky bastard), then proceeded to sit down on the nearby armchair. It was a dark green -- the armchair Potter was on -- mostly for nostalgic purposes. Draco could have charmed it any color he wanted, but there was always something about green that drew him in.
Potter watched Draco sift in silence. Since Potter didn’t say anything, Draco didn’t either. He kept his line of sight focused on the pile of evidence, which was a fairly good excuse to avoid eye contact.
“We should get dinner.” said Potter, without stutter. Which was relevant, as the case normally was Potter always did. Especially in Draco’s office. He usually looked shy and intimidated here.
In surprise of Potter’s assertion in a place he normally wasn’t, Draco had to pause what he was doing, set his glasses down and raise his gaze. Potter continued to watch him like a hawk, green eyes full of meaning he didn’t get. Draco was easily provoked -- especially by Potter -- so narrow his eyes Draco did and directed a glare unwaveringly back.
It was almost laughable, what they were doing. “At...” Draco clicked his tongue and checked his pocket clock. “...one in the morning.” Right.
“Yes,” confirmed Potter, gaze latching unto Draco’s every movement. It sent a tingle down his spine and Draco wished every so fervently he could punch him so it would stop.
Neither budged an inch. After about a quarter of an hour (which was an abnormally long amount of time for something as silly as a staring contest), Draco’s patience ran thin, not because he couldn’t keep going, but because he was curious. The reason as to his ability to keep going was another conundrum entirely.
“Why?”
“Why not?” replied Potter, the bastard.
Draco gave himself a long stretch, one arm tucked behind his head and the other outstretched above him. A sedentary life tends to do that even to Aurors. “Potter, there are many reasons as to why not.”
Potter seemed genuinely interested in this answer, so it was then that he repeated his question. “Why not?”
“Well for one, it’s bloody witching hour and you’d be surprised to find a soul working the kitchens. House elves don’t slave for the ministry anymore, remember?”
“Not here, obviously.” Potter scoffed, a small quirk in his lips. “You shouldn’t even be here this late.”
“Potter, it’s good that I’m here this late. Though perhaps absent from the forefront of your rather uncomplicated mind, it would be rather foolish to have everyone go home at a decent hour, regardless of ideal working conditions Granger may have embedded into your skull, because then no onewould be present for the security of the ministry in case anyone would wish to target Britain’s valued, shall we say, ‘trinkets’ located in the -- and apparently now unsupervised --  Department of Mysteries.”
Draco was fairly proud of his well-delivered speech, so it irked him that Potter simply brushed it aside and said, “I meant you, Draco. You were supposed to go home at a ‘decent hour’ otherwise Pansy wouldn’t have texted me. There are others keeping watch, not just you, you know, or it would be rather foolish.”
Pansy. The cow! She was snitching on him. Roommates or not, her blatant acceptance of muggle technology was particularly hindrancing to his self isolation. “Let’s say that’s true, it doesn’t change the fact that I’ve told you why not and you’ve got nothing other than Pansy’s alleged text to convince me to let you... what, come again?”
“Drag you out to dinner.”
“Drag. Me out... to dinner. Right. With no one working the kitchens.”
“I’ll cook. I’m not a horrid cook, I promise.”
“Potter.”
“Come on, Draco. You didn’t have to take the report off my hands, but you did. Let me treat you to dinner.”
“Oh, so it’s for the report. No need, you probably won’t believe me if I told you I did it for fun.”
Potter made a frustrated sigh then. Draco had made sure he was being purposefully obtuse in order to have the upper hand. Truth be told, Draco enjoyed toying with him far more than he should, and he really shouldn’t be enjoying it so much because it’s times like these that his inner thoughts betrayed his expression.
There was a beat, before Potter said, “Fine. Have it your way. Carry on then.” Before he promptly left Draco’s office with a solid door slam -- and that was that.
The silence bloomed for a long moment. Draco sighed. He leaned on his elbow and flipped a page of evidence with an air of disdainful boredom. The places where Potter was always left a gaping chasm when he left, but Draco was used to it, he had a decade’s worth of practice, after all. Golden Boy might be done with his shenanigans, but it was Draco’s bread and butter. With a sniff, Draco continued to sort through Potter's report, smirking at the chicken scratch writing littering the blanks of the report.
It was invariably easier enjoying things from afar. It’s what he’d always done.
When it came three in the morning, Draco wrapped everything up into a folder, flung his office door open and sent the report flying towards Robards’ office with a flick of his wand. There was a thunk and an “Ow!” which sounded vaguely like Potter, which was odd, considering he should have left earlier.
“Potter? What in Merlin’s name are you still doing here?” Draco cast a hasty lumos just to make sure, and there he was: Harry James Potter lying on the side of the hallway, rubbing his nose.
“Well, I waited till you had your fun, didn’t I? Reckon you’re hungrier than before too.” Then there was that cheeky grin of his, that ‘outwitted you’ face that both irritated Draco and made him feel butterflies in his stomach.
“Oh, piss off, you should have gone to bed when I took that report off your hands. You could have actually rested! Are you mad? What are you doing still awake at this ungodly hour? Potter, there are better things to do than waste time in front of my office.”
“I’m not mad. Why’d you want me to rest up anyway?”
Perhaps it was because Draco was tired too, but he lacked the energy to argue or do word games anymore. “Because you were lacking sleep! Why else?” said Draco, irritably.
“And how’d you know I was lacking sleep?”
Draco pushed past the baffling man, but Potter was quick to follow behind. “How is it possible you have more energy now than before? Potter, you’re easy to read, don’t you ever question how Granger and Weasley always have treacle tart ready when you’re feeling sour?”
Potter laughed at that. “Right, so I suppose then, like Ron and Hermione, you took the report off my hands because you sensed my mood? Draco...” and Harry had said it in a tone oozing with endearment that Draco had to gag. Potter even had the gall to laugh some more. “You’re more honest like this.”
“Potter, I will murder you, I swear to Salazar.”
“You can murder me after dinner, sound good to you?”
Draco supposed it was a losing battle against the Chosen One. He’d been hungry for quite a while, his stomach now clearly growling, and his mental acuity in shambles, it was hard to find a viable excuse. With a bit of half-hearted whinging, Draco agreed, and was pleased to see another infallible smile from the Golden Boy.
“You’re oddly caring of me, Potter. I can’t for the life of me understand why. It’s not necessary.”
Potter chuckled. “Necessary or not, we’ve moved on, remember? To better things. Besides...I wanted to.” Potter grabbed his hand then, not just held, but laced his fingers with Draco’s. What was terrible about it was that Draco let him. Potter's hand was warm and a just little damp. Draco was nervous about it, and Potter sensed it, because he started rubbing soothing circles on the back Draco's hand with a thumb. Draco let him do that too.
When they finally arrived at the Apparition point, Potter apparated them both smoothly to 12 Grimmauld place.
There they ate there with small snorts and laughs, but before Draco could finish murdering him, fatigue made his eyelids heavy, and he couldn’t remember when he’d fallen asleep. Potter tucked him in, apparently, as there was a warm blanket covering him in the morning. It was mortifying to know Potter caught him asleep, but he never brought it up after (to Draco’s great relief).
They just simply had dinner again the next night, and the next night, and the next.
Draco didn’t care that they had dinner, but dinner meant something else entirely to him: the significance that it had become a routine in his life, and that Harry James Potter was there to share it with him.
End.

Writer asks!
Rules: answer these questions and tag five other fic writers to do the same
Tagged by @clotpolesonly, thank you!
Author Name: thedaughterofkings (Lessa)
Fandoms You Write For: Mainly Teen Wolf, there mainly Sterek (with the occasional offering of Stoyd, Stackson and Stisaac, plus some miscellaneous prompted pairings), also some Merthur, and I’ve lately had several Drarry urges, which really takes you back! I’ve also written for SPN, and for Star Trek, and there’s some unpublished LOTR fic, but really, mostly my brain is all Sterek^^
Where You Post: here on tumblr (fics to be found on this page and under this tag) and over on AO3 Most Popular One-Shot: On tumblr: Favours, interestingly enough! It has overtaken Of dogs and deer darcy which I thought for sure would be the top! Both of them are Sterek, Favours involves some werewolf speed dating and Of dogs and deer darcy soulmate shenanigans!^^ Also, scrolling through my fic tag with an eye on the notes is very depressing - the 1k notes of Favours are wayyyyyy the outlier, like, most fics have somewhere between 10 and 50 notes outlier On AO3: by hits, comment threads, bookmarks and subscriptions: Homebound, which I’m again surprised by, but very happy about because I still love that fic a lot! It’s a sort of fix it Merthur, a little angsty and painful, but with a lot of healing and happy endings, I promise! by kudos: Here we finally have Of dogs and deer darcy in its rightful place^^ (It was my most popular fic across all platforms and categories for ages!) I think this was the first soulmate fic I wrote and it’s just cute and fluffy and funny and I do still love it! And I haven’t grown tired of soulmate AUs yet^^
Most Popular Multi-Chapter Story: This isn’t hard because I haven’t split many fics into separate chapters, so here the unopposed winner is Fully grown, and a well deserved one, too! My longest finished fic to date, another soulmate AU, just an all around favourite apparently - certainly one of mine! And yes, that sequel will appear eventually, just not yet (and no worries, the fic is complete in and of itself, I just have more thoughts and feelings^^).
Favourite Story You Wrote: Now that’s just mean!  Any of the fic mentioned above are definitely favourites, but they do get some love already obviously, so I’ll mention two here that I think deserve more love and attention: On AO3 the only lonely boy in New York, a musician Sterek AU with pining and misunderstandings and angst and aaahhh!!! Also there be love songs and dramatic love confessions and really, what’s not there to love! Get on it, people! On tumblr Rose and thorn, because I’m always a sucker for fairy tale retellings (and will not stop with them) and I really like how this one turned out! (Also, it’s super close to triple digit notes which is very exciting, so go read and share^^)
Story You Were Nervous to Post: Posting is always nervewracking for me, because you never know how it will be received - most of the time it seems not to be received at all, which is quite disheartening in and of itself! I can’t remember worrying about negative reactions to any fic so far; there are fics hidden away in my folders that I’d fear could get a negative reaction, and well, there’s a reason those haven’t seen the light of day so far. Overall, for me the anxiety over whether anyone is even going to read my stuff and if they do, whether they are going to leave any reaction, is the worst thing about posting fic, and of course that gets worse the longer you’ve worked on something, so Fully grown was one of the badder ones in that respect.
How Do You Pick Your Titles: I cry and pray a lot. Sometimes I’ll come up with something sort of like a title right at the start and that just sticks (like Fully grown for example), but most of the time, it’ll be one of the last things and I absolutely suck at finding titles! Though summaries are way worse still, and tags are a nightmare of a different kind again^^° Those finishing touches really are hard!
Do You Outline: Sometimes. Rarely very in depth, mostly I’ll just know what I’m working towards and will keep that in mind while writing. For the longer fics I’ll sometimes have a sequence of scenes to work towards instead of just one final outcome, but so far I haven’t had a full scene by scene outline, nevermind something that blocks characters’ movements in a room or something like that!^^ So I guess the answer is sort of no :p
How Many Of Your Stories Are Complete: I have exactly one properly unfinished story posted and I feel TERRIBLE about it, so fic only gets published if it’s finished/can stand on its own now. That means it takes way longer for it to be published, but that’s just how it has to be for my own peace of mind^^ I do miss the potential interaction with readers when publishing something multi chaptered while it’s being written, though, and it’s also a very lonely process without really any feedback (apart from throwing poor Larissa occasionally at my unfinished messes), so I certainly don’t want to claim it’s the best way to do things!
In-Progress: Depends on what you mean by that - wip that are published: that’s just the one we don’t talk about :p wip that are being worked on behind the scenes - there I always have three to seven, even if I’m usually only working on one at a time :p Currently there’s a Drarry fic, two Sterek fics for Sterekweek which I REALLY need get to, several more Sterek fics, one Stoyd and one Stackson. But then again if you mean, touched in the last month, there’s probably not a single fic, and touched in the last half year would only give me three or so - my writing mojo is definitely off at war this year *sighs*
Coming Soon: Hopefully seven Sterekweek fics! :D Also, the one Drarry, but that will probably be shoved to after Sterekweek, because STEREKWEEK!!!!
Do You Accept Prompts: Theoretically yes, but I should warn you that I’ve been absolutely horrid at actually filling them over the last couple of ... years really^^° But you can always try your luck!
Upcoming Story You’re the Most Excited For: I’m honestly feeling a little discouraged with writing right now (and also, I have a headache right at this moment which makes excitement feel a little unreachable), so this question is harder than it should be, sadly! I think the Sterek ‘the Proposal’ AU I’m hoping to finish for Sterekweek should be really fun when I get it done and I’ve had some new ideas for the Stackson one, the first sequel to Pigtails, so that made me more excited for that one again! My brain cannot remember who is or is not a writer right now, so I’ll tag any writer who sees this and wants to do it! (Also, please hit me up and let me know if you are a writer who likes to do these things because I’m always struggling to come up with people to tag and it’d be absolutely wonderful to have a list to fall back on and know people are actually interested in doing this!!!)
