GOD dark side of the moon is such a good fucking episode!!!!! dean's best memories are all setting off fireworks with sammy and pb&js with the crusts cut off and comforting his mom when she and john were fighting and sam's best memories are all some other family's thanksgiving, running away from home, leaving his family for stanford. dean's are all moments with his family, moments that he was able to take care of them or make them happy...sam's are all moments he got to be away from his family. to be on his own. it really highlights the differences between the two of them. sam says "i never got the crusts cut off my pb&j. i just don't look at family the way you do" and sure that's true and i can understand how that would change the man that sam became. and yeah dean did get the crusts cut off his pb&j. but he also had to comfort his mom when he was 4 years old and she and john were fighting. he'd been trying to hold his family together all on his own long before the yellow-eyed demon ever came and burned their "happy family" down. it wasn't just mary's death and johns spiral into hunting that made dean into the person who takes care of his family and puts their happiness above his own. sure the hunting only made it worse......but it was already part of who he was. he was always gonna be the one taking care of everyone else in his life.

Ok. A hypothetical scenario if you'll indulge me. You are a casting director on the movie. You are familiar with the material and you are asked to present some actors to the crew- *besides JK Simmons who everybody thinks should play Joey I guess?* who do you suggest and for what role?
I don't know any actors other than The Guy With The Cool Lips Who Played Scarecrow That One Time, so setting me up as casting director would be a questionable decision! I feel like the very tiny amount we know about this movie also makes this difficult; like, am I casting Sammy in 1932, Sammy in 1946, Ink Sammy, all three?
So, rather than picking specific famous people, some broader thoughts on what elements to prioritise?? as hypothetical casting director. For sake of this exercise we're going to take this all very seriously and pretend that the writing for this movie is already great lmao.
Joey: Ironically for the first BatIM character to get a canon human appearance, I think Joey's acting chops are more important than his looks; as long as makeup can do a decent moustache and the voice is good, the energy is what will really sell him. Joey Drew is both VERY important to get right and also the most complex character in the Bendy Franchise, but he's also really really easy to turn into a stereotype, and I feel like this implication of "obviously he should be played by the guy who played J Jonah Jameson" kinda speaks to how easy it is to see just one side of him. Joey is simultaneously ruthless but also disarmingly charming, likeable but also punchable, confident but also pathetically insecure, genuine but also manipulative -- it seems like a tricky energy to nail. If he doesn't have a sharpness to him, that Curiosity Where Empathy Should Be element, you've erased a really important part of the man behind so many nightmares; if he's a cartoon evil capitalist, then everyone who believes in his dreams looks stupid for falling for something so obvious. Whoever plays him has to be able to get in his head AND ALSO convey that nuance. But if you have the luxury of nitpicking appearance after that, I think it's worth noting that Joey doesn't look the way he's trying to look. I keep saying I'm obsessed with his overbite in BatDR, but like:
Tumblr media
See? Henry's the one with that aggressive strong jaw facial structure. Compared to him, even this less-aged Joey has facial structure more like mine, with a weaker chin that gives the impression of an overbite and a shorter face (which, to be clear, are attractive traits, but they are definitely not the Stereotypical Energy for this character archetype) -- he just knows how to carry himself to give off that j jonah jameson energy. I think attention to that kind of detail would also help him be his own fascinating character instead of just shoving him into an existing archetype.
Henry: If it's Ink Henry, his vibes are the most important. This character is famously non-emotive, often to an inappropriate extent, and frankly I think whoever plays him should keep that as part of his character. Henry strikes me as someone who wants to be kind but he's so, so tired, and just looking at this guy needs to sell that because Henry's actual behaviour and dialogue won't.
If it's Actually Worked In The Studio Henry, then I think his voice and appearance need to be SPOT. ON. so that they can play him a little differently and it still works rather than just not feeling like Henry. If he sounds like a perfect Henry but he has more energy, he's still quiet but he's more confident, he's not the follower Joey tried to sell him as... that would be such a neat thing to leave as an implied reveal for fans -- that the Henry we know is either a dishonest representation, or changed by his experiences, and is actually a bit different from the man Joey worked with.
Susie: they won't do this because they're cowards, but I personally think Susie would be such a good candidate for protagonist of a Bendy movie..... anyway if human Susie is in it, she doesn't have a canon appearance so you have a lot of freedom here. Most important thing is that She Has The Range; she needs to be able to be both believably naive and starry-eyed in a likeable way rather than coming across as desperate or annoying, and she ALSO needs to have a ruthless energy in her so that her later Womens Wrongs don't come out of nowhere. If Twisted Alice AND Susie both make appearances, I'm torn on whether they should be played by the same person... it could be cool if they were, since then you could see a lot of Susie in Alice even when she's behaving VERY DIFFERENTLY, which I think would humanise Alice in a good way (and also humanise Susie as more than just a Sweet Naive Girl Who Was Tricked)
Either way Twisted Alice NEEDS TO BE HOT. IM NOT JOKING I THINK THIS IS THE PRIORITY. Yes yes half her face is melting, but her vibes are UNIRONICALLY "hot and evil and wants to vivisect someone." Like, it would also be nice to get someone who can play her with dimension, with an implication that she has reason to be a cartoon evil sexy person who flies into a shrieking rage beyond just women be crazy (which is kind of what she is in the games), but also, she IS a cartoon evil sexy person and you CAN'T lose that; she needs to be able to pull off EVIL AND HOT with half her face gone without it feeling like a parody. Lesbians in the audience need to fan themselves. ITS VERY IMPORTANT.
I don't have a ton of thoughts about Allison. We have a pretty specific physical description of her human self. She needs to have enough ethereal poise to justify the lovesick way she is described in every novel lmao. Allison Angel, though, is where I would put a priority of Needs A Character Actor i think; she's a fairly major character but it's so hard to get a good handle on what she actually like..... wants or feels beyond Helping The Protagonist and Being A Good Person, but if she could really sell the bits and pieces so well you believe it, so that she really seems like she's been harshened by the brutal world she lives in but genuinely values a hope she won't let go of, it could make the character really good.
Sammy.............. Well, it's hard to not be biased. But human Sammy has no canon appearance, so I think you can't go wrong there as long as you pick someone who could conceivably be described as "pointy", and I PERSONALLY think based on the little crumbs of description we've gotten that a human Sammy should be fairly distinctive and intense, attractive in a Strange way - but I think the really really important thing for Sammy (ink or human) is his vocal performance. This is a character who took off in popularity in large part because of a couple of really compellingly delivered monologues; Sammy's voice NEEDS to be right, especially when he's speaking quietly. I think physicality in the sense of How He Moves is ALSO really important for him; Sammy's wiggle-fingers in game and constantly odd descriptions in the novels and complete lack of personal space in both all imply that he moves Strangely, and I do think he should have an unsettling Renfield energy, but it's also so easy for Character Who Is Losing His Mind to get portrayed so over-the-top that it becomes goofy or unbelievable or weird for the sake of being "creepy". Sammy's energy shouldn't be Insane Batman Villain, it should be Doomed Guy In A Lovecraft Story -- it's just that nobody but him is in a lovecraft story.
there are other characters but I think these are all the ones i have thoughts on

@silverv-week day 1 // soulmates
set in: au: watch the world burn, circa 2018 v & johnny are soulmates but it's complicated, this is probably confusing for those unfamiliar with my v & my AUs but this was fun!
"you still talkin' to v?"
"who?"
"v. you two were... nevermind."
johnny hadn't seen her in months, he genuinely forgot about her. though that didn't mean he wasn't thinking about her. he used to run into her all the time - by accident, but these days she was nowhere to be found.
a cracked cellphone screen reminded him of her, about that time he asked around about her day job on a hot summer day and how he ended up at a tech shop in some alley, an annoyed v sitting inside, fixing some gonk's gunked up phone.
he entered the shop, a bell rang as he opened the door, she was unphased by the sound. the place was small and somehow it was even hotter inside. the netrunner was the only person inside though light spilled out from the room in the back. a speaker was sitting on her desk, slipknot was playing at what he guessed was maximum volume.
"you work in this dump?" he asked, his voice raised in an attempt to overpower corey taylor. v had been mouthing the lyrics of the song but stopped as soon as she heard him though she continued to move her head to the rhythm of the song.
"no, i'm here 'cause o' the wicked vibes." there was sarcasm in her voice which seemed uncalled for, this place must've been heaven for any runner, so much information was stored on these devices and folks were even paying you to take it off of them.
she was prying the protective layer off the phone in her hands when she pointed at a screen on her desk. "input whatever's wrong with it on there. then give it to me." she explained, not even looking up at him, clearly customer service wasn't her forte.
johnny wasn't here to have anything fixed however so he placed the laptop he had brought with him on her desk. "i can't help ya if ya don--" she began as she placed her tools down, clearly ready to give him an ear full but stopped when she took a look at the device.
"huh." she tilted her head and looked at him, then back at her laptop. she grabbed it and opened it up, typing something in before closing it again. "where'd you find this?"
"in my car. where ya left it." he replied and she finally looked at him now, scanning him from head to toe. she took her time and it was all there: the lingering gaze on his cock and prosthetic in combination with a quick bite on her lower lip. she knew who he was and it got him excited for the inevitable revelation.
"oh. it's you." she paused for a moment and he gave her his best shit-eating smirk - she squinted. "jimmy?"
"johnny." he corrected, there was no way she was being serious right now, she had to recognise him, he was known for more than just his music, especially in night city. "silverhand. hired ya for a gig yesterday?" he tried to jog her memory though her gaze remained unchanged.
"right, right. 'course." she pointed at his arm and then at his face, nodding. "thanks." she tapped the closed laptop with her fingers before placing it underneath her desk. she leaned back and looked at him again before resting her feet on the table. johnny pulled up a chair and sat down, crossing his arms.
"so, johnny silverhand. got a feelin' ya didn't return this outta the kindness o' ya heart." she grinned and with a flick of her wrist checked the time on her watch.
truth be told he wasn't sure why he decided to find her, if she wanted her shit back she should go look for it herself but she had intrigued him last night.
the second random encounter was perhaps the best one: he didn't expect to see her there in her stupid little borg-burger uniform, putting on her best customer service voice, being nice. he found out later that she was fired from that job, supposedly she assaulted a customer after they were being rude, that was more like her. sometimes when he would enter the diner late at night after a show there was a tinge in his chest, half expecting half hoping for her to be there but she never was there to wait his table.
when he was on stage, looking down at the pit he often thought he saw her moshing with some guy like she used to when they were... not dating but it was never her. they idea of her being there -- or perhaps her absence lit a fire in him though and the performance that followed was fuckin preem every time.
but she wasn't on his mind and he didn't want to know where she was or what she was up to. she was just another pair of tits that mixed in with countless others, a few nights of fun, meaningless.
---
"'member johnny?"
"who?"
"johnny. you got his signature on your ass?"
"riiiiight. actually, it's on my thigh."
the image of him did flick through her mind every now and then, like the dias she used to look through when she was working at the retro store.
he taught her about lucky cigarettes, cursing her with the memory of him every time she opened a new pack, maybe that was the reason she swapped to rolling her own.
she had just pulled a cigarette from a freshly opened pack and was about to start smoking it when he stopped her.
"what're ya doin'?" he almost yelled, taking a step towards her to pull it out of her mouth.
"what?!" this irritated her, she needed that smoke right now and could do without his little games.
"never heard of lucky cigs?" he placed his own cigarette between his lips and took the pack from her.
"it's a lil' ritual." he explained and with a flick of his finger he flipped the cigarette around.
"pick a random cig," he raised the hand holding the flipped one slightly.
"put it back in, that's the lucky one." he winked.
"ya don't say." she retorted, rolling her eyes and taking the pack back from him with some force.
"ya smoke that one last." he pointed at the pack and v pulled out a different cigarette, placing it between her lips.
"if anyone wants to bum one and it's the lucky one." he exhaled some smoke into the cold night air. "they buy ya a new pack." he reached into his pocket with his free hand to get his lighter.
"how often does that happen?" she asked and johnny leaned in to light it for her, the fire illuminated his face, bringing out all his beauty and flaws at the same time. as she took the first drag and their eyes locked onto each other she wondered what she looked like to him.
"more often than ya might think." he shrugged and leaned back, putting some distance between them.
occasionally when she entered the atlantis she would scan the bar for his figure, she still owed him a drink or maybe he owed one to her, she wasn't sure. she would listen to rogue talk about him - they were fucking now - and conveniently disappear whenever he would show up.
one day she noticed that there were no more samurai patches on her backpack. she did enjoy their music even before she started fucking the rocker, though she never admitted that to him. the patches were constantly rearranged and maybe she had forgotten to sew those back on, replaced them with other bands, better bands.
after some time she forgot all about him. she knew who johnny silverhand was, especially after he went out with a bang, but none of the moments they shared were attached to that name, he was some guy she had fun with, nothing more.

Could you just imagine if Aunt Jane had survived the events of the first film, only to find that a restraining order has been put in place, barring her from making any contact with her nephew and niece....? (I mean, the director did mention that Aunt Jane will be tied up in the sequel and it is very possible that Golden Freddy induced a heart-attack or put Jane in a coma).
I mean, I can just imagine this as the opening for the sequel film: Aunt Jane slowly waking up in a hospital, finding herself handcuffed to her hospital bed. Then, a lawyer and a blonde-haired police officer (Vanessa) come in with calm smiles that hold so much rage within. The lawyer then sets a stack of papers on the dresser and tells her "Jane Schmidt, you have been served" and gives her a massive reality check, proceeding to tell her that she is no longer allowed to make any contact with her nephew or niece.
And when Jane tries feebly to protest, the blonde-haired policewoman states "You are not fit to raise your niece, your lawyer Doug ratted you out, we know what you did, hiring several people to trash a place your own nephew worked, just to get him in trouble...." Her voice is seethingly calm yet filled with anger as she stares Jane down "You are under arrest for multiple felonies, Ms. Schmidt...."
Then, the lawyer states calmly "I've met many people with different personalities.....but you are the most delusional and selfish person I've ever had the displeasure of meeting," faintly, he whispers to Vanessa "No wonder her own nephew and niece didn't want to see her while she was in the hospital..."

Okay but Henry saying Sam is like John isn't like most people saying Sam is like John... he isn't commenting on Sam's obsessive drive in a backhanded way, the way he fixates on revenge and gets cold. Or the snap temper Sam fights like John failed and failed.
Henry knows little baby John. Henry sees John as his precious child he always wanted to protect. Was John super curious with a love for knowledge in his eyes? Was he a sweet empathetic boy that being in Sam's caring presence reminds Henry of? In the end it says way more about who John was than who Sam is.
And to be honest, it's one of the biggest compliments Henry COULD give. Because of course he loves his son so much.

Let me just tell you something, my dear friends. Upon watching the new tiktok, I noticed that Josh was drinking Founder’s beer - A Michigan-based beer company. When I noticed this, I became very excited. Wow, the front man of my favorite band is drinking beer from my state! A company who’s brewery I’ve visited! That’s so cool and neat! It wasn’t until several moments later that the realization struck me that Joshua Michael Kiszka, lead singer of Greta Van Fleet and music elf, was born and raised about two hours away from the location of the brewery.
All this to say: I fucking forgot that Josh was from Michigan and got excited that he was enjoying a drink from my home state - one that was also Josh’s home state for the majority of his life.

I'm more curious about the personality of your Sammy!
I'm not too deep into the hole Call of Cthulhu thing and i'm still digging around. Besides personality I am curious about Sammy and the lost ones. What his relationship is like with them and such (if they are around. Or in general for Batim/Dark Revival what you think of it)
As far as personality goes, overall, I read Sammy as a counterphobic type 6, and this applies to basically all of my Sammy interpretations, haha. If you’re not an enneagram nerd, this is the “skeptic” type – I see Sammy as an anxious person deep down who wants (but finds it hard to believe in) something or someone he can trust to be stable. Understanding that little conflict is hugely important for making sense of his actions; Sammy subconsciously wants something to trust in so badly that he aggressively mistrusts to protect himself from that one huge vulnerability, one I don’t think he fully knows that he has. I've seen him described as a follower at heart, and that rings true to me; he comes across as cynical and unimpressed as a human, but when he switches to his blindly devout worship of the Ink Demon, it’s not as much of a personality change as you might think.
TIOL is actually a really good example of this. When Joey introduces himself as the head of JDS and tells Sammy and Jack he’d like to hire them, Sammy’s first serious question is the weirdly revealing “how do I know it’s real.” He doesn’t first ask what the job would entail or what kind of work the man’s theoretically looking for; his very first response is to bluntly assume this man they just met might be scamming them. But then as soon as Sammy sees the place, which is little more than a room with a piano in it, he believes Joey’s claim that they’re planning to expand without question, as if he was TRYING to be skeptical but isn't actually that good at it. Joey is mystified by him for most of the tour, but it’s actually apparent in Sammy’s wording that he’s interested and getting invested – which shouldn’t be a surprise. Sammy’s immediate mistrust and assumption that the offer was too good to be true was just as telling as Jack’s sparkle-eyed excitement: he already wanted the job.
Anyway, I see Sammy as someone who’s serious and cynical to protect a vulnerable heart that wants someone he can safely rely on and doesn’t think he’ll get it. He values stability and survival over happiness (better the devil you know than the devil you don’t) and doesn’t like taking big risks, but he’s also not careful; he’s not good at thinking things through or identifying his own feelings, and often acts impulsively towards whatever makes the most immediate sense to him. A lot of his rudeness isn’t intended to be mean – he just doesn’t see the point of social niceties and isn’t interested in worrying about them – but he is ALSO not always thoughtful, projects his stress and frustration onto others, and is not good at looking at things from someone else’s perspective. Sammy can be volatile, and between the ink and the overstimulation he's obviously experiencing on the job, some of that genuinely isn't his fault... but some of it is his own choice to lash out at everyone around him before ever looking within or trying to improve things.
The Lost Ones aren’t a thing in the Cthulhu AU. In Escape AU, none of them survived the escape, and Sammy’s relationship with them was something that kind of haunts him now – they were his flock, and he cared for them, but he knows he wasn’t a good leader. I’ve talked about this before, but I tend to interpret Sammy as someone who exploited his followers’ desperation and loyalty for his own protection; even if he did look after them and was the closest thing to hope and care they had. That’s a big reason why Escape Sam was convinced he should stay separated from Jack for a long time – it’s not just Sammy refusing to believe he deserves love (though it’s that too), it’s also Sammy recognising that he was a cult leader who destroyed Jack and then took advantage of his confusion and loyalty.
I don’t know if this answers your question but uh, THERES SOME OF MY THOUGHTS

could we have some more thoughts on ruby posessing deans body post-s3?
how would dean react when he returned?
thank you for asking, my lovely little anon. i totally forgot i had mentioned this a while back and being reminded of it has made me go holy shit.... my mind.....
(putting a cut here because i wrote a lot)
i think it all would have started very shortly after dean died. the entire foundation of sam and rubys relationship at this point has been that sam has reluctantly agreed to be rubys ally for the sake of saving dean. ruby KNOWS how far sam is willing to go for him and is already using that to manipulate sam from the moment they meet. she knows. like she knows knows. maybe just from being around him or from stalking him or from a hearing it from a little birdie whos been in sams head before. but she knows.
I dont know how long the gap between ruby being possessed by lilith and ruby coming back would be, id imagine a few days, giving sam time to grieve dean or at least to accept the fact that hes dead before ruby shows up in a brand new (or all to familiar) body.
i wont pretend to understand how possession works, especially when its happening to a dead character. i dont think the writers knew either so itd be safe to make up my own rules about it. but its deans body. polished and buffed with not a scratch on him.
sams reaction would be similar to the one we see in the show. hed think dean was undead (technically right) and try to kill ruby before she can get a word out.
and ruby would explain it to sam like hes an idiot, like the reason behind her possessing dean is a no brainer. shes keeping deans body warm for when they get him back. otherwise who knows what will get to him first? this isnt possessing someone and controlling their body against their will. this is a favor. and sam will feel stupid and concede that shes right even if hes uncomfortable with the idea.
it starts immediately. sam treating ruby like she really is dean. without even thinking about it sams already agreed to work together with ruby in bringing dean back and theyre running off together without a word into an all too familiar routine - the only difference being that sam sits in the drivers seat now, and even that is back to normal after sam gets injured on the job and ruby drives them both to safety, a hand clutching sams bleeding shoulder and telling him hes gonna be alright and theyre gonna get back and patch him up and he'll be good as new. and its all too achingly familiar that sams holding her hand on top of his wound and letting himself fall asleep, putting trust in her that he would only ever put in dean.
its the same, but its not. ruby for the most part leans into the dean-isms, but jolts sam back to reality sometimes when she lets her eyes linger while sams just out of the shower bent over looking through his duffle for clean clothes, when shes giving him a hungry look that sams only ever seen dean direct at girls in bars that makes sams stomach flutter. when ruby moves in for the kill it takes suprisingly little convincing to get sam okay with the idea. like hes been waiting to just be told that its okay to want it this entire time.
before they know it deans back (despite bringing dean back being against rubys plans) and in his own body (she has to keep her promises) and ruby has plucked the body of a legally dead jane doe to parade around in. and its. different. dean takes sams new affinity for physical contact as a reaction to finally having dean back, that he needs to feel that deans really there to believe it, but its a lot. a lot more than hes used to from sam.
he doesnt know. not for a while. he wouldnt think to suspect it. until eventually the truth comes out and deans fucking pissed that no one thought to tell him a fucking demon was piloting around his body for a few months, but he doesnt understand the level of reaction that sam gives. how guilty sam feels. until the guilt and the touching and ruby acting like sams jealous ex starts coming together in deans mind.
even if dean has feelings for sam or wouldve done the exact same if he was in sams position, i think it would still feel like a violation. sam took something that dean didnt give and for dean to realise that right after coming out of hell by the only person in the world he would trust not to violate him that way? itd be a lot to deal with. he'd push down his panic over it and laugh about it and make fun of sam for it and stop the conversation when sam sees straight through him and tries to have a genuine heart to heart about it because dean cant fucking handle the thought of having to talk about the repeated brutal rape and torture sessions he both endured and enacted in hell, or to console sam over it when he might fucking snap and beat him with a crowbar if he has to see sam acting like a kicked dog when hes the one who raped him.
it'd take a lot for them to work through. it wouldnt be sunshine and rainbows while they kiss and both declare their love for each other. dean doesnt talk about hell but they both know the memories consume him, a newfound violence in the way he kills, the effective coldness in the way he tortures and interrogates. the distance in his eyes when sam tries to talk to him when hes in that mindspace. thered be a lot of acting like they used to, then eventually dean snapping either because hes frustrated with feeling like he has to act like things are normal and that hes okay with what sam did, or frustrated that things do feel normal and that he still feels safe around sam.
they fight. its bad. not in a property damage way but in an emotions way because it all comes out. and then they slowly and gently work through it one step at a time.
