*SWIPE FOR VARIATIONS* Experimenting today with the power of cropping. Here are three variations of the same shot just to see how each one feels. Which crop do you like and why? - - I actually love all three for different reasons. Another huge variable in choosing the most powerful crop is how and where the photograph will be viewed. Generally speaking when viewing on small screens like Instagram and such a tighter crop on the main subject is more compelling as it focusses your eye immediately on the subject. However, sometimes when you crop in too tightly you lose the atmosphere or feeling of the subject. Alternatively, if this was displayed as a large print it might feel stronger with a more distant camera perspective just to allow the viewer to feel more like they are in the photograph rather than just looking at a picture. But, when you make this image big you see even more of the grain, blur/movement and “imperfections–some love this (I do) and some don’t. This, to me, is the beauty of art. We all can choose what we create or invest in. Personally, I want you to feel some kind of emotion when you see my photographs and not just think “cool car” and scroll by. Whether I am successful at this is up for debate but I do truly appreciate the opportunity to share what I love with you all and the comments that you take the time you share.
