It's funny, when I say that Austen didn't advise marrying a rake or a Gothic hero, someone replies, "They've mistaken Austen for the Brontë sisters." (usually meaning Emily and Charlotte).
Except... Emily and Charlotte didn't advocate reforming a rake either. Jane Eyre famously GTFO when she learned that Rochester was trying to commit bigamy and she didn't return without divine intervention to a man who had been half-smitted by God for his sins. Isabella may have originally thought she could reform Heathcliff, but pretty quickly she fled from her marriage, never returned, and did everything she could to keep her son from him.
Maybe we could just stop blaming these literary women for things they didn't even do, not that we really need to blame anyone since I'm fairly certain that writing a love story where a heroine reforms a rake isn't the root cause of all evil.

lucas had a difficult life growing up, jumping from house to house in the foster care system, not actually knowing what it was like to have a loving family. but that didn't stop him to long for it. so it became his dream (and goal).
after working his ass off in tons of odd jobs and no sleep, he managed to buy his dream house and finish his college degree. now he's apt to have a stable (and definitely healthier) life, to be able to build his family with love and care, making sure his future kids never feel like he did in the past.
he's ready for the next (big) step… find his forever love!
(in the meantime, he's trying not to poison himself with his own bad cooking… i guess we should trust the process)
good luck, lucas!

Say what you will about the 2018 modern adaptation of Little Women but they were so right casting Lucas Grabeel to be a fedora wearing, bow tie wearing, striped suit wearing, socially awkward music NERD version of Laurie Laurence. They were doing the Lord’s Work with that one

luca marinelli character FIGHT: Round One Part Two
ARGUMENTS (spoilers ahead, and feel free to reblog with your own!):
Paolo
“He is a soft, precious Cinnamon Roll. Yes, no one asked him to involve himself with Mia. He kind of butts in and she takes advantage. But, he's so kind. He does start to challenge her about her family, with predictable results. But, there are so many character beats and soft scenes where Luca fully communicates everything you need to know about Paolo without saying a word. I cry on that last line EVERY time.”
i think he was/wanted to be a carpenter? so he's got that. nice guy, helps people out
if he loses it will make one anonymous submitter sad
Joseph
ALSO a carpenter
Mod Comment: it has been pointed out to me that you could argue paolo is symbolic joseph in the movie, which makes this round even funnier
