It just kind of occurred to me, so Crossroad happened at the beginning of Keito's second year & Koga's first year. Rei was either held back this year, or the year before, or maybe even before entering Yumeno. But anyways, it happened at the beginning of the school year. Koga was already known to find Rei by his scent at this point. Like uhhh when did Koga learn Rei's scent to be able to differentiate it exactly???

With the new info brought to us by the Backdoor pamphlet, did Koga begin to pinpoint it out at the Livehouse??? Majority of the time Koga preferred to watch Rei from a distance, never closing that gap between them. So that doesn't really make sense. UNLESS Koga quickly learned it from the sole time Rei spoke to him at that point. The time Rei decided to take a sip right from Koga's tomato juice without a care. That single moment had such an impact on Koga that he couldn't forget Rei's scent. Considering the fact that all Koga could do at that point was be completely transfixed & unable to say a word to Rei. Even if it was just from his first days in the school, he learns scents & sniffing them out pretty quick.

Kind of like how tracking dogs are able to find a scent right from the first time they smell an item with that particular scent & track down the person or object. Koga's dog-like actions followed him into Yumeno where he was able to find & follow Rei's scent as well as TALK to Rei rather than stare in disbelief. Koga knows & is willing to show himself to Rei as himself.
