Još jedna stvar za svadbu a to je kutija za poklone tj kako kod nas to popularno ide, kuverte. Nema tu ništa specijalno osim obične kutije koja ima pomični poklopac koji je složen u rustikalnom stilu s proredom za ubacivanje kuverti. Uz malo dekoracija ista je izgledala vrhunski. Chicory is on the mind again. Every once in a while I'll get nostalgic over that game I'm so fond of, as I still consider it as a small yet crucial piece of a puzzle I struggled a lot with. Can't help but scribble stuff for it (and also can't help but insert some of my characters in there, haha!)

So once again I say out loud, Chicory is very good

It also gave me the opportunity to revise some of the picnicsonas I've done of my own characters some time ago, as well as make some new ones as well! This is also sorta two-faced as there's one more thing I wanted to do, and this was a warmup of sorts to get into that style for a moment. So we shall see soon hopefully...

Behind them, there was a sound like a dozen earthquakes. They scrambled to their feet, pelting up the crest of the hill to see a massive column of smoke rising from Mons Vesuvius.

“Good gracious,” was all Aziraphale allowed himself.

After rising for what looked like dozens of kilometers,45 the smoke started to spread out at the top, like the crown of the pine they had been eating under so contentedly only moments ago. Soft thuds started around them a moment later. Near them, something pale struck the dark, fertile earth. Aziraphale bent to examine it.

“Watch it!” Crowley yelped, and Aziraphale heard a frantic flapping sound and a muffled curse. He looked up, holding the lightweight stone that he had plucked up in his hand. Around them, more stones were falling, sparsely at the moment, but Aziraphale suspected they would be falling more thickly soon. Above him, Crowley had extended a protective wing.

An African Fine Press Friday

As we continue to celebrate Black History Month, I was introduced to this handmade, hand-printed little book by noted African American book artist and letterpress printer Amos Paul Kennedy Jr. (b. 1948),entitled How Wisdom Came to the World, printed in Oak Park, Illinois at Kennedy’s Jubilee Press in 1992 in an edition of 50 copies.

The piece is an adaptation of a Yoruba folktale about a man named Ijapa who tried to keep all the wisdom of the world to himself and, with the help of his son, comes to realize that wisdom is for everyone. Ijapa literally means “That which moves around awkwardly” in reference to a turtle or tortoise, which is an animal trickster of Yoruba legend. Therefore, this accordion book is printed on pages that are hand-cut in the shape of a turtle. Although the pages are unnumbered, each page has has a different number of small, printed turtles to indicate the order it should be read. The accordion folds down into a 10 x 13 cm square that is housed in a handmade, four-fold amate “paper” enclosure with a turtle motif on the outside.

I can’t express to you how grateful I am that Amat and Maya never got together in Beartown. And how Maya didn’t get with anyone in the series.

Amat went through some serious growth, but we can’t forget that he witnessed Maya’s rape and allowed her to get cruicified by the residents of Beartown for it. Despite him knowing the truth- that Maya wasn’t lying- he didn’t say anything in favor of fitting in with the team. He did come out in defence of Maya later on, but the damage was already done. He chose to be silent. 

Maya forgave Amat and they became friends, but after what he did, having a romantic relationship would be off the table. Not only that, but because of Maya’s trauma from the assault, she probably wouldn’t be in the mental head space to date anybody. Even in the last installment of the series, she is getting there, but she isn’t ready to be with anyone romantically.

Not all female characters need romance subplots. Maya was a character that didn’t need a love interest, so she didn’t have one. She existed as her own character, and her plot focused on her, her familial relationships, and her friends. Some authors- mostly male- can’t comprehend that women can exist without a boyfriend, but Maya remained single the whole series. Another reminder that Fredrick Backman is a genius and one of- if not the only- man I trust to write female protagonists with grace and respect.
