So it’s pretty well known that Whitebeard didn’t really let women join his crew. Oda even said avoided it because he didn’t want them to get hurt and that is part of why he made the nurses leave. But we know there was two exceptions to this. Whitey Bay and Toki. We don’t know Whitey Bay’s circumstances but Toki had simply asked and he let her. Which is hilarious after the trial he put Oden through. And his last ship, the Rock’s, had women too.
So when did Whitebeard stop letting women join? Or more interesting what struck him about these two that he DID break his own rules for them?

Minor thought I had about Oden. He says Wano is too cramped and complains that the first person he meets outside of the country is dressed “the same old way.”
Though he himself is dressed that “same old way” when he says it, and continues to dress that way for his entire adventure. Perhaps that says something about his inner feelings towards Wano.
Toki is too polite to bring it up, though I wonder if she initially thought of questioning him on it.

Again And Again
Portgas D Ace X Reader
-Amatsuki Y/N decided to stay in the future without her sister upon meeting a friend’s son.
Chapter 1: Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep
The Oro Jackson, with its grand sails, docks at the port of Wano. The crew members, including the you and your brother-in-law, Oden, stand on the deck, your faces filled with melancholy. The golden rays of the setting sun cast a bittersweet glow on the scene.
You look down to your leg and there held on, was Buggy who was practically sobbing and Shanks who looked at you sadly.
"Hey I'm also leaving, why do you two only care about Y/N?" Oden sighed.
You were the only woman on board, it made sense they'd get attached to you. You were the crew's princess after all.
And to be fair... it wasn't just the two kids who held onto you.
"Roger get off her." Rayleigh sighed as he pulled his captain away.
"This crew has been my family, and I'm grateful for every moment we spent together... I'm going to miss you all." You say with your voice trembling.
"Y/N DON'T FORGET US! ALWAYS PAY US A VISIT OKAY?! NO MATTER WHAT TIME IT IS!!" Roger says as he struggles from his first-mate's hold.
"Take care of yourself... We'll miss you so much." Shanks says and lets go of your leg and pulls the sobbing Buggy with him.
"We'll see each other again, I promise! This isn't going to be the last!" Oden cheers.
"Thank you for everything. We won't forget any of you. I promise to see you again!!" You smiled.
As you and Oden descend the gangplank and step onto the solid ground of Wano, you turn to face your cherished family for the last time. The crew members line the deck, waving and calling out their farewells, their voices filled with emotion.
"Goodbye, everyone! Thank you for making this journey unforgettable." You yell at them waving.
"Farewell, my friends. We'll always cherish the memories we made together." Oden says with tears and a smile.
The ship slowly sails away, and the distance between the crew and you and Oden grows. The crew members stand united, watching their friends depart, hearts heavy with both sadness and pride for the incredible adventures that they had gone through together.
"I miss my Toki so much, come on!" Oden yells as he grabs you and carries you like one of his bags.
Something you've gotten used to over the years of being with him.
"Y/N!" Your sister greets you as soon as you arrive.
Her husband falls as you have won her attention first.
You hug your sister, "Oh how I've missed you."
Two children, came rushing in the room to hug their father. After Toki gave Oden a kiss she pulls you aside to catch up.
"Toki, Oden was looking forward to you." You laughed.
"He can wait, we have a lot of time." She rolled her eyes, "So? Catch me up! Tell me everything."
Toki, was the dearest person to you. You could tell she also holds you close to her 3rd only to her children.
You two are peas of the same pod after all, twins with similar yet opposite power.
"I had thought you would've ended up with Roger." Your sister chuckled as you tell her your story.
"Oh god no. Rayleigh was definitely more of my type. But alas, I couldn't get attracted to them."
"You are a liar. I know you and your type is definitely Roger."
"Whatever! Go spend time with your husband!" You rolled your eyes causing her to laugh.
~
News from outside Wano travel a whole lot slower. The news was year ago, why have you only gotten it now?
Amigasa Village, here you were the last place you saw your dear former captain.
"Y/N?" Oden came to you, Toki following after him.
"I heard Roger died a year ago." You smile sadly at the couple.
"Oh did he?" Oden sat beside you.
"Yeah, paper says Marines got him. They executed him after he went on about One Piece." You laughed.
"That's bull." Oden laughed with you. "Marines trying to look good."
You sat in silence as you stare at the waters, Remembering the ship that had left you here not long ago.
"I wonder how the others are..."
"Well considering the news was a year ago. They probably don't think much of it."
"I want to see..."
"See what?"
"Hey Toki," you turn to your sister. "Can you take me to the future?"
The couple froze.
"What?"
"I can't let you go alone."
"We can't do anything with how things are right now. I want to see how it is in the future."
"I said I refuse to let you go off alone." Toki reiterates.
"I can always come back."
"Y/N there's a reason you haven't gone back and fixed Wano. You can't simply go back to past and future like that." Oden reminds you.
"I can come back after a year. It's not that long."
"What if you get in trouble to whenever I send you?"
"Toki, I sailed with Roger Pirates for years and trained with Oden. I'll handle myself fine."
"What do you even want to see? Why do you have to leave?" Oden sighed
"I want to see the world."
"Y/N... What if the future isn't something you like?" Toki says sadly.
"I'll wait till I can come back. A year wait shouldn't be too bad."
"A lot can happen in a year." Oden replies.
"I'll go back anyway. Somehow, I'll find a way. I'll get back to you."
"The future isn't even great."
"How would you know? Toki, please. I want to see outside of Wano."
"Promise you'll come back..."
You smile at your sister. "i swear."
A light envelops you.
"I'll see you in a year."
"Ill see you in 19 years." You smiled.
And then, there you were.
In a beach. You were luckily familiar with the place. It hasn't changed. You smile.
You would've thought your sister or your nephew or niece would be here to greet you.
You make your way to the village. There you saw children running around with men who didn't seem to be citizens of Wano.
The village looked poor, it surprised you how much life it had despite it.
"Who are you?" You hear a voice behind you. "You're not someone from this village."
The man wore a mask over his eyes. He is a muscular man with spiky long light blue hair, and wears a very long opened coat which stretches down to his knees and leaves his chest exposed.
You looked at him confused. He was most definitely a pirate. But what was a pirate doing here?
Pulling out your Katana on your hip you point it at the man.
"Do you serve Kaido?" You glared.
People gathered and gasped. The citizens tried to get help. The man was unarmed after all.
"I don't." The man says nonchalantly.
You were about to hide your sword when you felt a presence that was coming behind you.
You envelop your sword with haki and slashed at the direction of the attacker, you didn't put much power into the attack as you didn't want to be hostile to someone who isn't an enemy.
The flame that was coming to you was cut and it turned into a man. His arm had been cut.
"I do not wish to fight!" You clear it up before he attacks once again. Putting your sword away to prove it.
The man in the form of flame materializes. You froze when he looked at you.
A familiar feeling swells in your chest. They shared almost no striking similarities aside from their jet-black hair and the intense darkness of their eyes. But you felt something the man before exuded an air of charisma and determination, possessing an unwavering spirit that drew others to them like a magnetic force. Just as the man you followed before.
It was something you had always admired on your former captain. You looked at the man in front of you awestruck.
"Who the hell are you?" the man gritted his teeth, angered at the fact you pointed your sword at his friend.
But you were too engrossed in your thoughts to pay mind to his question.
This seemed to be destiny was it not? In your despair of losing Roger, you travel in time only to be in the arms of you assume to be his son.
You smile as your tears formed. You had promised to meet him again after all. It wasn't like you can meet him again. You were in wano during the incidents.
"I asked you something." The man calls for your attention again.
Your tears slowly dripped and your smile grew wider, "I'm Y/N."
The man shocked by your tears, came over to you, "I-If you're not an enemy I'm not going to fight you! Don't cry!"
You laughed causing your tears to fall more. "To think you'd be the one here. Maybe you are the future I'm meant to get to."
The man blinks confused, "I-Is that a romantic u-uh I-I..."
Placing a hand on his head to pet him, "You never gave me your name."
"Ace?" He says confused.
Your heartache swelled, yearning to tell Ace about your shared past, about the legendary crew you held dear. But the weight of time and the knowledge that your stories belonged to a bygone era held you back. Instead, you could only stand there, filled with a profound sense of loss and nostalgia.
The encounter with Ace had awakened a longing for the past, but it also reminded you of the joy in forging new connections and embracing the adventures that awaited them in this new era.
He is not Roger. You couldn't wait to get to know Ace.

I was scrolling trough One Piece episodes on Crunchyroll Italy and saw a comment on like ep. 973 that said something like "Guys, what if Joyboy is Toki's father???" And now I am like... it could be.
Now, let's run off the facts that we know:
• Joyboy and Toki were both from the Void Century, about 800 years ago or more.
• Toki came to the future because she was running away from something. What that something was we don't really know, but we do know that bad shit went down in the late Void Century.
• Toki was from the Amatsuki family. We don't know Joyboy's real name, so he could be from that family as well.
• Toki really wanted to go to Wano necause it was her homeland. We know by a fact that Joyboy was connected to Wano due to the Phoneglyphs.
• Toki wasn't there when Roger unvailed the One Piece and read Joyboy's message. It may be, because if she had in fact been there, us the viewer (and characters) woukd have learned this sooner.
So, what could this mean for the story? Well, its defenetely alleins with One Piece's themes of destiny and legacies. If Toki was Joyboy's daughter, then Luffy set his past life's home country and grandkids free. This is fitting for him. And it does tie a few elements togheter.
But if Joyboy is Toki's dad... then who is her mom? Well I think it may be Nefertari D. Lili.
We don't know much about Lili either, only that she was from the same time period, had a connection with Joyboy throught the Phoneglyphs, and dissapeared.
But I wanna look at the genetic evidence.
Toki's hair. Its green, and her daughter's Hiyori hair is more blueish. Were is that blue from?
There is one character with blue haur similar to that, Vivi. And who also has blue hair and is related to her? Lili.
Mike drops.

i do think it's funny that it seems that the closer in proximity you are to aonibi/ainezu (you know, an actual medic) the more likely to be coping you are.
Template
Some reasonings for placements below the cut.
Ginshu is coping, it's just that their coping happens to look like picking a fight with God and causing the world to break.
Kuchiha is coping pretty well in comparison to most of the cast if only because she just seems kind of over her past which. She should still get therapy for but she's probably fine.
Beni doesn't really seem to consider her situation one to be troubled over so she's coping as well as she can considering she's pretty much cursed.
Hizame's like 700 years old you know she's coping well considering she didn't go batshit insane
Kosen's not really coping well but he's doing his best. Getting to beat up Kon probably helped, I think that was 90% of his coping.
Kanzou had a whole arc where he was coping. So like. Is he doing well? No not really, but he's on the mend.
Tsuyukusa has never coped a day in his life. Bonten has never coped a day in his life. The no-coping brothers.
Chitose and Riri really should be overlapping. They're both so absolutely fucked. Chitose put a man's brain in a jar then uploaded his consciousness to a game to keep him alive. That's not coping that's insanity.
Riri pretty much was Amatsuki. She has Urushibara for a father. There's no coping being had there.
Kon thinks he's coping and he's doing pretty alright but that's just relative. His way of coping is being an asshole to people. Get some therapy, dickhead.
Toki's only coping because he's constantly surrounded by people trying to check in on him and make sure he's doing okay. And he's actually receptive to it UNLIKE SOME PEOPLE (looking at you no-coping brothers). He's kind of fucked up but he's probably going to therapy anyway so whatever.
Wakasa/Susutake is, over all, probably not doing too bad. Comparitively. He'll get over it.
Aonibi/Ainezu is a medical professional or whatever. They've been keeping the whole cast afloat. It's like a codependency - they keep themself afloat so that they can keep the people they care for afloat.
Yoru's just a little guy. He's also a little traumatised but he got a hug so he's fine now.
Heihachi is innocent and he would like to stay that way please and thank you.

parting thoughts on amatsuki (anime)
so first of all bonten is such peak character design we need to go back to this
Tumblr media
yaoi hands shoujo legs makes a man go [whistle noise]
secondly WHO is that motorcycle guy who is somehow not toki’s dad
long and short of it is the anime leaves me curious enough to add the manga to my planning list but probably not curious enough to read it anytime soon
this was an absolute delight to watch, and even though it came out in 2008 it made me nostalgic for early 00s studio deen nonsense (which sounds like a dig but i mean that affectionately)
it’s not the most unique thing but it reminds me that i like this flavor of shoujo fantasy, specifically portal fantasy, way way way more than the generic ecchi isekai that proliferate today
actually not even just shoujo, i was thinking of fushigi yuugi specifically but on the shounen side of things yyh and even bleach to a certain extent fall under that “we go to another world but in like a cool way” umbrella so basically
when and why did this good shit get replaced by such mediocre isekai!
(obligatory “i’m an isekai hater but everyone should watch fabiniku” disclaimer)
anyway amatsuki boasts an overall likeable cast of characters, toki can be a bit insufferable at times in the way a lot of protags can be but overall i found him to be idealistic yet still endearing
shinonome has a banging character design too and so does kuchiha except i’m SORRY she has to lose some points for the hair scarf thing i CANNOT stop thinking about how scratchy that would be
(that said she IS adorable and definitely best girl material, also the ot3 vibes between her and shinonome and toki were off the charts)
also one more gratuitous bonten gif bc PEAK
Tumblr media
ofc yeah i’m biased bc of a certain voice actor factor (suwabe) but honestly when did the morally ambiguous pseudo-mentor types stop looking like this and start looking like boring ass gojo instead (sorry to the gojo girlies your man has nice eyes but otherwise looks as interesting as a communion wafer)
but in all fairness i shouldn’t be comparing shoujo aesthetics to shounen ones so anyway moving on
the human vs ayakashi conflict stuff can be found anywhere but i think amatsuki does a pretty good job of executing that classic trope, though the vr stuff (at least in the anime) doesn’t really seem to play a role beyond providing the portal to the other world which eh is fine and all but might have been cool to see it be more relevant
all in all i feel like amatsuki would be a nice hidden(?) gem for anyone who enjoys older series (not even sure if it’s a hidden gem or if i just never heard anything about it personally) but would probably be a miss for anyone who isn’t into that
which is to say it was certainly a hit for me

Been going back and reading some earlier chapters of the current arc and seriously, what is the deal with showing the Iron Giant when we did? I’m so curious!
To quickly recap, Robonosuke was created 900 years ago, then appeared out of nowhere 200 years ago and attacked Mariejois.
So... was it active the entire 700 years in between? If yes, doing what? or could it have been sent to the future by Toki or a prior user of her devil fruit? Did she know something about the founding of the WG and destruction of the Ancient Kingdom and send the giant there to attack their founders/the Celestial Dragons? Did she know about Pluton being under Old Wano?
At this point, we are still in the dark of when Toki’s first time jump was. It’s possible that one of her parents had her devil fruit before her. She could have been a baby during the Void Century, her parents making the decision to jump forward with her, Toki only inheriting the fruit later. Or did she have it from a young age? Please Oda, I wanna know.

thinking about how time is used in Amatsuki. particularly, how short periods of time are repeatedly shown as being supremely impactful. this isn't an organised thought, might try and do that later, but basically Amatsuki as a story takes place within a very short amount of time. Toki states as much, backed up by the fact that when we see him come out of the simulation his muscles haven't atrophied much and his hair isn't noticably longer. so obviously, this is the first instance of an impactful period that takes place over a short period of time. the second most important is, of course, the time Chitose and Toki spent with Suoh. Toki and Chitose spent relatively the same amount of time with Suoh, surprisingly. this time being a few weeks. we know this because it's stated that Chitose met Suoh ten years before the plot of Amatsuki takes place and also that it was ten years ago that Midori was paralysed. this leaves a small gap for the few weeks in which Toki met Suoh and thus Chitose. considering what all happens in the few weeks Toki knows the two of them... well. in a way, this makes Chitose's obsession and complete breakdown a lot more heartbreaking. some random moments i want to point out include how Shinonome and Kuchiha knew each other for about two years but didn't become friends until Toki came - i'd posit that this is a good example of how important even short moments in time can be. similarly, Tsuyukusa and Shinshu (and subsequently Tsuyukusa and Riri) having a brief friendship being incredibly impactful on the way Amatsuki unfolded. Or, perhaps, even Yoru and Shinonome. it's a bit of a different situation since Shinonome made Yoru but in the end they knew each other for a very brief amount of time compared to the amount of time spent apart yet that short amount of time made Amatsuki possible.
