[Image and words @warmhealer: ‘anti-racist action is essential’]
This is not a call to activism, this is a call to do the absolute bare minimum. If you ever wondered what you would do in a historic period of change––like stonewall, like abolitionism, like the miners’ strikes, like the battle of lewisham, anything where people fought against injustice and for what was right––this is your moment. Speak up and loud for the right for black people not to be killed at the hands of police forces or white people. it is literally the very least we can do. it is crucial not to be silent now. For those asking what to do: I’ve shared a lot of different resources over the last few days over on my instagram and I have collated and continue to collate as much as I can. The link is below.

i was going to post an anniversary drawing for this blog today. but i’ve been reflecting a lot. something doesn’t feel right to me about posting and pretending everything is fine when it’s the opposite.
black folx have been, and continue to be, murdered by the police. i’m not going to post any photos or videos - no one needs to be further traumatized by police brutality. i reblog more posts about police brutality and racial discrimination toward people of color (black, indigenous, latinx, asian, among others) over on my main blog. but i have more of an audience on this blog and hopefully can reach more people.
i didn’t upload a drawing today because i would feel too disgusted with myself for posting as if nothing is happening. if i’m not using my platform to amplify black voices, then i’m not being an ally to the black community.
it’s more important to me to talk about this and engage in this than just make art for fandom all the time. fandom doesn’t matter right now. i can’t just sit here and do nothing. people are dying. the black community needs allies.
yes it’s hard and emotionally draining to talk about police brutality and racial injustice all the time, but i can’t not say anything. i can’t. and sure, fandom is a way to escape, i participate in escapist behavior all the time, but that’s because i can afford to. i am able to go to sleep at night without fearing for my life. without the fear of being murdered simply because of the color of my skin. that is a privilege black and brown folx do not have.
as an asian person, i and my people face racial discrimination as well, intensified in recent months due to covid19. however, it would be irresponsible and disrespectful to only talk about that and forget solidarity within communities of color.
it is so, so important for communities of color to stand together. we must support and uplift each other, and listen to each other in instances of injustice.
that said, here are some donation and petition links (i’ve shared even more resources on my instagram highlight, and will continue to add to it)
minnesota freedom fund
george floyd memorial fund
i run with maud
black visions collective
black lives matter
reclaim the block
justice for breonna taylor
tell minneapolis city council to defund the police
lastly, i want to share this video white allyship is no longer enough jahkara smith posted today (29 may 2020). she put the frustration i and so many people feel into words better than i ever could. just watch. listen. and do what she says.

Dear lovely followers,
This post isn’t quite related to what my blog is about. Actually, it absolutely is. The racist and xenophobic norms that are allowed by the current institutions and systems in place to permeate society bleeds into every aspect of life. From implicit biases to macro aggressions, no realm of life is free from these issues that white people like me are often privileged enough to barely even detect. Colored people detect them like 7.0 earthquakes on a seismograph. I don’t know the feeling of spending my entire life treated as a second class citizen in a country that claims to be democratic. I don’t know, but I see the hurt, the pain, the tears, and far too many broken and dead bodies of those who do know.
What’s happening now across the world is a beginning to something that has the potential to create great change. This change needs bodies, though, and not just colored ones. This change needs communities, and not just local ones. This change needs the world to come together and embrace each other’s humanity and work to ensure that humanity is valued and respected by all and for all. Especially by those who represent us in politics and media and by those who are meant to protect society. This coming together doesn’t take any one form. It’s done by marching, chanting, educating, donating, speaking, writing to representatives, and supporting those fighting for equality in any way one is able to. I encourage and implore everyone to do something. Anything.
Be an inspiration. Be a warrior. Be an ally. Be a voice. Be the change.

Some Helpful Resources
I’m sure a lot of y’all have seen what’s been going on from Amaud Arbery to Breonna Taylor, to George Floyd and now all these protests going on. We might be under partial quarantine right now, but there are still ways we can help. Hiphopheads on Reddit has strung together many links to support all three of these people’s families, funds to support the fight against police brutality and some other helpful resources. Donate if you can, and if you can’t, sign the petitions. Don’t let these types of issues die out, that’s what the aggressor hopes for. Stay safe.

Man, I think I may have been momentarily numb to all of this. I saw the news. I spread the word sign the petitions. I gave donations. But I still didn't fully connect with people expressing their tearful moments. And then I thought about it for more then one at minute. At work no less. Started crying intensely. I know that everyday, each and everyone of us takes a slight risk going outside. We never know for sure if we'll get home safe. That's why we say things like "life is short". But being a black woman who has witnessed racial prejudice, I just don't want to live in a world where my brother or father could just be doing their own thing and be murdered as a result of that prejudice. That really messes me up. I try not to think about it too much, but the feeling has got so overwhelming.
May I also say that any police officer that does this mess does not need defending. They don't "need to be fired". They should be imprisoned. Done. That's it. There's video evidence and plenty of witnesses. Any good that these people do as officers does not automatically absolve them of these crimes.
I'm so tired.

Eric Garner. George Floyd. Amaud Arbery. Breonna Taylor. Freddie Gray. Trayvon Martin. They should be alive. Everyone deserves to feel safe and protected. We operate under an antiquated system that does not serve us. Stand up for each other. Protect each other. Support each other. Seek out resources. Protest. Riot.

It needs to be said.
It is NOT people of color that are struggling right now. It is BLACK PEOPLE. People of color are not be killed like animals. It is BLACK PEOPLE. Do not get me wrong, unity is everything, but there needs to be a distinction right now.

I had some stuff typed up apologizing for the amt of political stuff I was reblogging. But actually? I'm not. Black lives matter shouldn't be a radical political concept and if you're tired of seeing it imagine living it every second of every day? We are privileged to even think of turning it off. Do not talk over poc but be angry! You must care about this longer than your comfort allows.
If we want to help, we have to do whatever we can and that includes annoying our privileged friends and followers to LISTEN to black people/ poc and stand up for them.
Here's an excellent thread on where to donate financially: https://twitter.com/seanmiura/status/1266399116797468673
If you can't aid monetarily, some things you can do:
1) Pressure DA Mike Freeman to charge and arrest the officers involved - Phone: 612-348-5550 | Email: [email protected]
2) text Floyd to 55156 to sign the Color of Change petition
3) show up to protests, protect black lives, make it possible for them to speak without the threat of harm if you can. Remember NOT to drown out the voices of the oppressed. And please search your soul. If you are there because it is an excuse for you cause havoc and bust shit up and NOT to empower the righteous anger and pleas of poc you are not there for them.
Good articles to read to keep us as white allies accountable and rooted in the needs of the oppressed rather than performative allyship:

i am an abolitionist but i'm sorry. this IS true. there is not a consistent logic here. when derek chauvin was convicted i did see a lot of people saying it wasn't really justice but i saw absolutely nobody arguing that he should have never been arrested at all. i didn't see anyone lauding christian cooper for not wanting to press charges against amy cooper. i saw the opposite, really. and i don't see anyone arguing kyle rittenhouse shouldn't be on trial for violence he committed as a minor. but when men abuse their systemic, structural, social, and physical power over women, it's all about sympathy. it's about how they too have been victimized. you don't think derek chauvin or any of those other cops felt like victims? amy cooper? kyle rittenhouse? nicolas cruz? the men who killed amaud arbery? most regular people, even heinous people, are victims one way or another, and have been hurt and harmed extensively. and this informs our behavior. all of us don't kill people though; all of us don't abuse our partners or harass strangers and weaponize the police against them. women are DRAMATICALLY more likely than men to be harmed and hurt and victimized, yet men are the ones harming us 9:1. for no other form of violence against a marginalized group does anyone concern themselves with the "healing" of those who harm them
