I thought about the idea of Gren and Amaya being mentors for Corvus on the breach and now it’s consuming me btw
Imagine if you will. Fourteen year old Corvus. Commoner kid taken in to a shady military cadet training program. He’s passed off as older and sent to the Breach to work under Gren. Gren is like woah this kid is definitely not seventeen. And Amaya absolutely destroys the program head for it but can’t send Corvus back to the program, so the breach just sort of like. Adopts him and he does odd jobs.
Either he learns to play cello there from one of the soldiers in his free time, or he already knew a little bit and he gets practice playing when the soldiers have small parties to keep spirits up. He doesn’t talk much but he’s fond of the Breach.

Not through the entire season yet, but at the big library fight, and man, I am relieved that despite Amaya shouting and speaking in a different way than sign language for the first time, they actually let her sound like the Deaf people I met.
You see, apparently when speaking vocally, Hearing people modulate their voice after what they hear, and so can check if they pronounced it right, if they are loud enough etc, but if you can't hear, you can't access that system, and just have to go for how it feels to speak these words, so speaking verbally sounds something from slightly distorted to not intelligible if you are not used to that specific person speaking (thats where a Deaf accent comes from).
Amayas "Go!" was clear to understand as a word, but it still sounded slightly different to how a Hearing person would speak, and I am glad they let her have that.
For the record, I met a few Deaf people at work, but I am not close to any of them, so I am not sure how accurate this is, but IMO maybe Amaya learned to speak verbally so clearly for battle purposes? Normally, sign language is clearly more practical, especially in a setting where ableism does not exists and so more people actually can speak it, but in a battle? One-armed military sign language exists, and she surely speaks that as well, for when she uses the other arm for, you know, fighting, but I think for moments where even that is not possible, or when the terrain is very full with trees or rocks or other things making it impossible to see her, being able to shout commands might come in handy.
Also god damn, I was so afraid they would kill her off for a moment, so glad she will survive. Being stuck with Corvus in that small book chute for a whole night will suck, but she will survive.

Amayah really said "I'm sorry for threatening you just because you're an elf but hurt my nephew and you're DEAD."
