“Well, they’re fuckin’ stupid.” Imogen muttered, plainly, a scowl briefly flitting across her face.
“In fairness, I’m rather glad they didn’t. I think I much prefer you anyway.”
“Yeah?” Imogen looked… astonished, and Laudna suppressed her laugh this time, amusement chasing the sudden rush of emotion away.

I reread The Black Games trilogy and I realized I never truly finished the last two chapters of the third installment (despite reading the whole triology at least five times) and y'all...
It rocked me emotionally.
Anyways, I love the trilogy so much and I'm so happy I finally got to finish it!
(also, it has my favorite OCs ever!!!)

broken pieces of the night
James pulls Regulus back toward him like he wants to make sure he’s safe now. Regulus tenses, briefly, then sags against his chest. The gust of James’s breath tickles his ear. “I told you from the beginning, Potter, you can’t save everyone.”
With tightening arms, James says, “watch me.”
Or
While his friend group struggles to heal from a misguided prank, James Potter finds solace in a grumpy Slytherin. Falling in love is an unexpected side effect. (Not that he is complaining.)
Or
Regulus Black goes to the Astronomy Tower for some peace, but what he gets is an annoying Gryffindor who won't leave him alone. Falling in love is unavoidable. (Trust him, he tried to avoid it.)

It's time!!! It's time to post my art for @buckybarnesevents 2023 Shrinkyclinks Double Bang!! It's NSFW so you can see the whole thing HERE! @buckybarnesdeservestobehappy was awesome and wrote an AMAZING story to go along with my art! Prison of Madness— Imprisoned in a concrete cell, Steve can’t understand why he was taken, but his captor, a menacing figure called the Winter Soldier doesn’t seem to see the issue. At first, the Soldier is cold, detached, and terrifying, but things change as the days in the cell pass. There are flashes of humanity in the pale blue eyes that observe him intently. Coerced into performing heinous acts, Steve despises his captor, but his body doesn’t understand his fury. His physical reaction to unwanted advances betrays him every time the Soldier forces his way into Steve’s space. After a while, Steve loses count of the number of times he protests as well as how completely his body betrays him.

The Chain When It’s Over
Gosh, found a fic recently because of this wonderful art that linked to a fic at the bottom. I was curious, because the pics were pretty but didn’t explain much and it had my fav boy in it, so I decided to check it out. Saw it was long and platonic soulmates Wild & Twi and settled in for a good time. Boy the unexpected trip I just went on. All the emotions. It’s just, so so good.
But got me thinking about when things are over. I’m one of those people in denial that they’ll ever had to leave each other people it’s just SO SAD that they’ll never get to see each other again! So this made me stare it straight in the face and as I was bawling my eyes out (to Can’t Take it In by Imogen Heap from the end of the first Narnia movie I might add; was such a good song for it. also I totally forgot there was a playlist for the fic with the art whoops need to go listen to that now.) I realized I had never thought about how each of them would feel after the end, beyond them being sad they’d never see each other again. So I decided I wanted to think about it and get my thoughts out because it’s just kinda fun that way? So here we are! Lets start.
Twilight: To me, at the end of Twilight Princess, it feels like Twilight is rather lost. He’d made a new home for himself in Midna and the road so to only have the road and no one that needed help anymore, Link feels off balance. Doesn’t feel right to go back and can’t continue with his new normal. So he either goes off in search of a way to Midna or of a new purpose (or both) and ends up eventually with the Chain. It gives him that feeling again, like he had with Midna, except more so because there’s nine of them now. So when the adventure ends, even if it’s in a very satisfying way, and he heads home... he’s done a lot of healing with them, I’m sure of that, but because he’s learned to lean on them it makes it that much harder to let them go again. Much like in the fic he’d become extremely distraught and depressed over the fact that he’d never see them again. He’d treasure their memories and probably tell stories of the, but it wouldn’t be enough to completely get rid of the hole he had again. But I do think it’d be what gets him to finally decide he wants to rest and settle down somewhere. Until now I had always felt like his fate was left up in the air, like anything could have happened but I had no idea what. With Linked Universe I feel like he has a direction now, and it’s part of why I love this au. (that and the fact that all these boys get to meet and help each other heal; it’s simply wonderful and good for them all despite the dark circumstances for their meeting.)
Maybe he’d crave home like in the fic, or maybe he’d make a new place for himself somewhere (part of the reason I love the gerudo king Twi au so much; he’d have a great place to return to that’d make him feel so loved and needed and would give him something else to focus on besides his grief) but regardless of which it was he’d eventually finally find that healing and start a new life. It’d definitely take him some time though, to be okay with moving on without them.
Wild: Breath of the Wild to me has you so stuck in the past it feels like it’s weighing you down, like you can’t move forward and focus on the present because of past mistakes. I feel like that’s part of why everyone writes Wild as such a traumatized kid, poor guy. But I feel like Wolfie helped with that, like it said in the fic, saw him for him not the hero, which is why I love the idea of Wolfie being there for him. But I also think that meeting the other heroes helped too. Sure, at first he’s all depressed that he’s the only one that ‘failed’ but as he goes on he relies on them and finds himself being comforted by them and told he’s enough as he is. By the end he believes it and is much more confident in himself. And he’s ready to move on, to stop looking at the past and wishing for things to have been different and to instead make a new, better future where that won’t happen again with his new friends that were there the whole time he just was too stuck in the past to see it. I see him being very sad to let them go but keeps them as good memories instead of the ones that dragged him down from before.
Time: This one’s probably the least mysterious to everyone because we know he has a child. He’s sad to see the boys go but is confident that they’ll all lead good, full lives and will make the best of things. Then he makes that family with Malon and at some point for some reason has enough regrets to turn into the Shade. Maybe, later in life, he regrets not having taught any of the Chain more. Or maybe it’s something that we could never guess because it’s related to events we never see, like a war or trouble in the family. But I think when he first returns, he’s actually fairly put together. Sad, and has a crying moment with Malon, but good with the knowledge that they’re wonderful boys who will live well.
Warriors: He’s fine. That’s what he tells everyone, including himself. The adventure is over, and sure, he grew to love them, but he knew it was coming and had had it happen before, he’s fine, he was prepared for it. But as they watch him throw himself into work and sometimes act oddly, they all know he’s not fine. It take Artemis getting him alone and confronting him about it for him to break down and tell her that he misses them dearly, that he loved those boys like they were his own blood and the he knows he’ll never see them again. He breaks down and she lets him wail, and once all his tears are dried she tells him that he’s lucky to have met them, lucky to have gotten to know and love them in the first place, and that he should treasure their memory. She then also adds that Lana probably kept records of them. Warriors probably got to then know all about their adventures through Lana and is sad he can’t tease them with this new information. But getting it off his chest and hearing more about them helps him heal and move on. He keeps their memories with him as more people from beyond portals he became friends with and continues on, keeping these memories close to his chest and only sharing them with those he is very close to.
Legend: Legend is a mess. He tried so hard to be brave faced about it, he’s said plenty of goodbyes, but he hates them more and more with each one he has to say. He’s tired of losing people, whether they’re dead or not, and wants to find a good life like Time but is so burdened by his adventures that he cannot. He’d break down and start crying because he really grew to love those boys, he had let himself get attached again ever after all the times he’d been burned, and now he was paying the price. He probably locks himself up in his house for a while, depressed, and doesn’t want to do much. But then Ravio would come knocking on the door and not leave him be. Eventually I think Legend would spill the beans to Ravio(or Zelda), tell him all that’d happened and how much they’d meant to him even though he didn’t like to show it. How he’d had fun. How he was proud of them. How he was glad he’d met them even if he’d had to say goodbye. And Ravio would have one of his serious moment and would give him a hug. And Legend would actually accept it. Then he’d be able to move on. They’d be memories he could share with Ravio, who knew how important they were to him, and he’d laugh and cry and Ravio would still show all his attention for the story; his own kind of silent support. And Legend would move on. I think that while this would give him someone else to lose, they also helped him heal a bit too, and with him knowing they’ve just gone to live their own lives rather than are dead it makes it so he’s able to move on and heal easier. He eventually figures out his life but he holds those memories close to him but instead of telling stories of them a lot he honors their memory with the things he does and trinkets he gets.
Hyrule: After seeing all those other lush Hyrules he is determined to make their own Hyrule look like that too. He’s sad they parted and maybe cries about them sometimes, but more than anything he loves sharing the stories and what he’s learned and keeping them alive through those tales. They’re a source of hope for him, people to look up to and show that he can make his world better too, that this is not the end for Hyrule but a new beginning and the princesses are more than happy to help him. He remembers his brothers fondly and maybe he eventually makes a family of his own where he finds a new community of feeling of belonging.
Sky: Sky is so happy to be back with Sun. He’s missed her so much and the first thing he does is kiss her, then hug Groose and his Loftwing. And then he breaks down crying, making them all worry and fuss of him. He splutters through the tears to explain and they hug him and Sun asks him to tell them everything. So he does. He tells it in as much detail as he can too and they stay there for a long time, until Sky has tired himself out and is falling asleep where he sits. They bring him to bed but the next morning return, bringing him goodies and asking him to continue. And so he does. Until there is nothing more to tell and he feels far more at ease. He still misses them greatly, but now the most important people to him can remember them with him and they’ll be able to make more good memories with them. He still gets sad sometimes, when certain things remind him of them, but then he’ll smile because he knows they’re off living good lives like he is and that they’ll be just fine.
Wind: Big boys don’t cry! So he tries to wipe away the tears and tough it out. But he is still crying when he reaches his Grandma and Aryll. They’re concerned while he gives them big hugs and when Grandma asks he can’t hold it back anymore and cries while she hugs him. It comforts him and he’s eventually able to tell them about his adventure. It starts off with him being sad but evolves into a grand story of epic proportions that make Aryll and Grandma gasp at the appropriate places. But as he reaches it’s conclusion he gets sad again and Grandma tells him it’s okay to miss them, that it just means he loved them that much, and that even though they’re gone now they still live on in him, that he carries pieces of them with him. This soothes him, but what helps even more is when a few days later Aryll brings him some things she made; things that look a lot like the items the others had. She made them from his stories for her big brother and he’s moved to tears. He proudly shows off his new gear to Tetra when he sees her again and he happily shares the stories of his adventures with his brothers with all who will listen. He’ll get a little teary eyed sometimes if something hits just right but for the most part his stories, the things he learned from them, and the little pieces of them Aryll made for him are enough and he learns to move on.
Four: Four just stands there dazed. The part of him that’s red is sobbing, the part that is blue is throwing a tantrum and cursing the gods, the part that is violet is saying it’s only logical that they’d eventually have to all go home, and the part that is green is trying so hard to keep it together. As soon as he hears Dot shouting for him the green can’t keep it back anymore and the red bursts forward. She’s concerned as he becomes a whimpering mess in her arms and she brings him home, where Grandpa helps make him comfortable and they ask what happened. His green is able to hold back some of the red again while his violet tells them what happened. Tells them of his brothers. Red surges forward sometimes, and even occasionally blue will break through, but for the most part they’re quiet in the face of the memories of their brothers. Once it’s done Four is drained and they allow him to get some rest.
The next morning Grandpa pulls on his violet part with talk of a new technique. The red part rejoices at being with him again but often turns to sadness as some things remind him of the Chain. He knows Grandpa notices the tears that sometimes come out but doesn’t comment. He’s grateful. Dot comes in when they’re done and drags him around town to do some shopping with her. It’s much the same as it was with Grandpa but this time she points out things that remind her of the stories he told the night before. At first it makes the red part of him weep but eventually it get more excited than sad; there’s parts of them everywhere they look and something about that is comforting. His green part is able to finally take more control again and from then on Dot and Four love looking for things that remind them of his brothers. It’s a treasure for them to share and Grandpa seems to suddenly gain an interest in history, occasionally tossing the odd book his way suspiciously turned to a page that mentions something about heroes.

I like my fic the way Sir Mix-a-Lot likes his derrieres, the way those scantily-clad girls on the Carl’s Jr’s commercials like their burgers, the way every size-queen version of Draco likes his peckers. I like them meaty, hefty, thick.
I like big fic and I cannot lie, you guys.
Short fic is growing on me, and I admire how much people can do with a thousand or so words. But to me, there’s nothing like sinking my teeth into a big ole juicy fic. I love taking my time with it, savoring every bite. I love getting to know Draco and Harry all over again, learning about this version of them, their desires and biases and quirks. I love getting to know the cast of characters around them, feeling the world of the story fill itself out before my eyes. I love strapping myself in and being whisked away on the roller coaster of their lives, going through ups and downs with them, rooting for them, crying with them.
I told someone recently in a comment that their story did the thing to me that is literally the reason I love reading and writing: it carried me away and made me forget about the whole world, made the real world fade to nothing while the world of the story took over. I was so hooked that I read it inside of a Target, and nearly brained myself on a price-check kiosk.
THAT’S what I want, THAT’s why I come here, THAT, to me, is the point of all this.
So yeah, keep giving me those thick ‘n juicy fics, all you talented Drarry word-finaglers, and in the meantime, I’ll rec some of my favorite summer reads. These were all Calgon, take me away! level fics, fics I nearly drowned in, fics I read at the most inopportune and inappropriate times, fics that left me feeling full and sated despite a bit of heartburn in some instances. In short: these were all really fucking good.
Home Truths by @fantalfart and @skeptiquewrites (E, 67k) (house magic, slow burn, Quidditch) – Pro-Quidditch player Harry has to do something about Grimmauld Place, which clearly hates him. He hires the foremost (and only) expert in house magic, none other than former nemesis Draco Malfoy, to tame the house.
What I loved: The Quidditch-y goodness! We get to know all of Harry’s teammates, see the ins and outs of his professional life (possible injuries, training, tension within the ranks and with other teams, camaraderie, pressure from fame, the highs and lows of winning and losing). It’s such a rich portrayal of a professional sports team. And then there’s Grimmauld Place, which is described in exquisite detail, and is like another character in and of itself. No, actually, it IS another character – it’s sentient, really, so I think it qualifies. I loved how Draco’s work is portrayed, too, all the interesting quirks and revelations that come with taming the house. I especially loved that he found Potter artefacts on the black market! And then, of course, there’s the swoony love story. It’s got depth and complexity, and it’s a realistic portrayal of two people secretly lusting after one another, tentatively expressing their interest, falling for each other, and trying to figure out if they can make it work.
A Room Up There (And You In It) by @the-starryknight (T, 59k) (mystery, slow burn, magical artefact preservation) – Grimmauld Place is passed to the Ministry in the wake of Harry Potter’s untimely (alleged) demise, and Draco is sent to catalogue and preserve its contents. But a series of strange occurrences leads Draco to believe that the house might not be as empty as it seems.
What I loved: The sloooow, delicious burn. How can a hand resting on a shoulder feel more intimate than sex? How can a person fall in love with someone they can’t see? I dunno guys, but it happens in this fic, and it’s amazing. The tension stretches so tight that I could hardly stand it at times.  The way this spectral version of Harry takes a step forward only to take twelve back...it was agony – sweet, sweet agony. I was on pins and needles waiting for answers, for contact, for something to break. And when it finally does, it’s beautiful. It’s perfect. It’s lovely.
The Truth About Love by @amywaterwings (E, 52k) (marriage bonds, undercover, enemies to lovers) – When Draco’s magical divorce firm develops a new sort of Veritaserum, Harry’s tasked with going undercover to seduce him and find out his secrets.
What I loved: waterwings has a natural and elegant way of telling stories and this is one of my favorites of hers. Her Draco is wonderful - determined and clever and surprisingly (but believably) brave. He accepts his lot in life for the most part even as he yearns for Harry. He works alongside Pansy, and their friendship is a goddamned delight, their bluntness and no-bullshit interactions always tinged with the sort of familiarity and fondness that only comes with years upon years of knowing a person. Her Harry is good-hearted and soft-centered, and I adored watching him fall for Draco at a speed that surprised literally no one besides him (definitely not Ron or Hermione). Another thing to love about this story is the plot. It’s inventive and interesting and full of suspense. Several threads come together perfectly at the end, and everything happens at a breathless pace. It’s a thriller as much as a romance, and I mean that in the best way. And the smut is soooo hoooootttttt.
In Our Blood by @secretsalex-blog (E, 37k) (curse breaking, mpreg, magical house) – Tale as old as time: ex-enemies are assigned to de-curse a haunted house replete with ghost babies, then wind up shagging each other’s brains out, which leaves one of them knocked up with a baby that might kill him.
What I loved: Besides the romance – which was GORGEOUS – what I loved about this one was the depiction of Draco’s pregnancy. This fic really highlights the horror and beauty of bearing a child, and his determination throughout is both crazy-making and admirable. Harry is stuck as a rather passive witness, falling in love with Draco even as he fears for him. It’s angsty, it’s nail-bite-y, it’s fantastic.
True Children Still by @gracerene (E, 35k) (new relationship, kink exploration, emotional comfort) – Harry and Draco, who have just begun exploring the possibility of romantic involvement, are sent to interview a woman in the course of their work for the Auror department. There, they encounter a couple engaged in age play. Harry’s mortified but curious, and slowly, Draco introduces him to the world of kink.
What I loved: I’m not usually a kink connoisseur, but this was so well done, and I could understand – perfectly – how Harry would be drawn to certain aspects of it. His emotions are beautifully conveyed as he navigates this new frontier – there’s excitement, happiness, fear, guilt, and just plain confusion. It all rings so true.  And Draco is the perfect partner to help him through this – patient yet eager, thoughtful, thorough, and kind. They’re absolutely lovely together. The romance, the connection, was the best part of this fic for me. I swear my own heart was healed a little in the course of this story, right along with Harry’s.
Romp and Circumstance by @wolfpants (E, 35k) (regency AU, scheming, forbidden desire) – Woo boy, is it hot in here or is it just me? Aloof, beautiful Draco Malfoy’s family has come upon hard times, and it’s up to him to secure a marriage with a respectable suitor. He’s worried said suitor won’t follow through and ask for his hand, so he comes to Harry, who has plenty of experience in love (or at least sex), for advice. Harry gives him lessons in seduction. Very thorough lessons.
What I loved: It’s so fun! It’s so hot! It’s fun and hot! The smut is the steamiest, full of chaise lounges and breathless nuzzling and the slow removal of prissy garments (but no kissing on the mouth, because Draco’s saving that for marriage). And it’s a great story besides, with high stakes and excellent tension. It’s downright hilarious at times, and it’s atmospheric (even the smut is conveyed in such period-appropriate terms!). It’s an excellent romp of a story, and I guarantee you’ll love it, whether this is usually your cup of tea or not.
Human by @ghaniblue (E, 27k) (werewolf, cabin in the woods, friends to lovers) – Soon after he is turned into a were, Harry skips town without telling a soul where he is going. Draco, who was Harry’s Auror partner before he left, finds him in a remote cabin in Germany and has to convince him to come home.
What I loved: My favorite part of this story was how much I laughed, although it has a lot more to offer than that. But I really, truly, laughed out loud more times than I can count, and that was mostly due to Draco’s voice and personality. He’s ridiculous and over the top in a million tiny ways (his wardrobe. his skin care routine. his ever-changing nails. his dismissal of the German people as a whole (except for the nannies). his thoughts, which are chaos incarnate, and often revolve around what mother would think and how much he wants to strangle Harry.). And yet, he’s fiercely loyal and very lovable, and basically willing to walk over broken glass for Harry. And Harry is broody and incapable of communication and probably the most stubborn creature in the history of the universe. And together, they make the most perfectly imperfect pair. I adored this version of them together. They were so compatible and comfortable together, and also really horny for each other. All in all, this was an absolutely delightful read.
The Only Magic Left Between Us by @lqtraintracks (E, 24k) (fuck or die, forced marriage, slow burn) – There’s fuck or die. There’s marry or die. And then there’s this story, which is both.
What I loved: I could not get enough of Harry in this story. He’s so like canon Harry (who I adore, of course). He’s principled and stubborn and unafraid and selfless. From the first scene, he rolls with the punches, thinks on his feet, and accepts his fate. He is fascinated and confounded by Draco, and the way he falls for him is so fucking sweet. Draco, for his part, is slow to open up, but I loved how he let Harry see more and more of his true self as time went on (the good and the bad). The sexual tension, of course, is there from the beginning, and the smut is SOOOO HOOOTTTT, but what really made this story for me was the romance. The evolution of Harry and Draco’s feelings for one another was so believable. It was fraught with uncertainty, with hurdles, with insecurities. But as it grew, they became so unbearably tender with each other. I loved their love, their feelings, their vulnerabilities. And I loved how perfectly it all came together in the end.
The Seventh Life by @corvuscrowned (E, 18k) (past lives, vampire, Paris) – This is 2k less than my 20k limit for this rec list but you know what? I don’t care. It felt so much more immersive than an 18k fic. In this story, vampire Draco comes across the latest iteration of Harry, who has no idea who Draco is. Until, that is, Draco bites him and all Harry’s previous lives come flooding back.
What I loved: The pining. Oh, the pining. The pining and the angst. This fic chewed my heart up and spit it out. Draco is portrayed so well here – he feels rather ageless, and sadly wise. Harry, on the other hand, is young and impressionable at the start, almost a blank slate, although that changes rather quickly. Draco and Harry together? It’s magic. It’s sexy and consuming, it’s passionate and fraught with difficulties. The setting, too, deserves a mention. Paris comes alive in this, and it’s the perfect place for our boys to have (yet another) love affair.

A drawing for a fanfic called Strength and the Sight by @inkwell-intrigues. I recently read this after my friend @archivevil (creator of Hell Harbor, Devil’s game, Salt in the wound and Cooking up a Storm) recommended it on their blog and my god, it’s sooooo good!! Please, everyone, give it a read if you can, you are definitely gonna love it. The story is well-written, the characters are amazing, they even make drawings for each chapter. Their drawing style is extremely beautiful. It’s easy to tell that a lot of thought and love was put into this fic.
And yes, this is the Martini glass from King Dice’s fight. But here, she has a name, which is Ginette ( I love her nameee!!), personality and a backstory! I will not spoil too much in case someone hasn’t read it yet, but she is definitely one my favorites, she has a heart of gold but she is forced to do some things that go against her morals. She is also very motherly! Love her character a lot!
As for the story itself, it’s set in the game Universe after the boys defeat the Devil. Some things from the DLC are also included! We also get to see bits of lore such as the Calix Animi and a bit Chalice’s past as a warrior of that order. The characters go through so much, especially our dear boys, who go through some traumatic experiences. There’s a lot of angst but there are veryyyy wholesome moments, too. They balance each other out so well.
Also also, @inkwell-intrigues has been working on this fic for years now, their passion is unparalleled! The fic has only just started ( it has 9 chapters as of now.) and It’s already a beautiful masterpiece. They update the fic every Sunday unless they state otherwise!
I hope you like this little gift for you. This is somewhat based on that scene from chapter 8 that you made a drawing for but I changed it a little, if you don’t mind ; ) These three are so wholesome together. I hope I managed to get their expressions right, they are supposed to be extremely tired and in pain after what happened, after all.
I want to say much more but again, I don’t want to spoil the story just in case. It’s super recommended! Thank you so much @inkwell-intrigues for this fic and for putting so much effort, passion, love and dedication on your work. Seeing the amount of passion you put makes the reading experience even better ; )
