Pokemon Horizons Episode 18 Review - A Flashback Masterpiece
I’m sorry, Episode 16, you just got dethroned after two weeks of reign. Episode 18 is now the best episode of this anime by far. It’s just an origin story, but the animation and storytelling are so immaculate. It’s almost perfection in a way. It feels like a good closure to the first arc and the beginning to the next possible arc in the Rising Volt Tacklers’ journey.
Tumblr media
Liko and Roy are curious about how Captain Pikachu is able to fly in the air, so they team up with Dot to ask Friede about Cap’s origins. He avoids the topic, but with the help of Orla meddling, Friede finally reveals his past with Cap. Once a promising Professor, Friede starts his story jobless and listless. He had no motivation and no drive to do anything after quitting; he spends his days fishing with Ludlow and that didn’t excite him either. One day, he gets a phone call from his old teacher, Lucca (Liko’s mother), who he hasn’t seen since his student days at the Kanto region. Lucca moved to Paldea from Kanto after getting married to Alex. She wonders why he quit his job at the lab. Friede says that he knows everything there is to know about Pokemon, but Lucca sees through his front and points out that he lost his drive. She then asks him to meet up with him the next day at dawn where he is introduced to the Pikachu that will one day become Captain Pikachu. At first, Friede didn’t want to bother with a Pikachu, but after seeing how Cap used Volt Tackle to make a vortex into the sky, he became interested in it. He spends his next days trying to observe and theorize Pikachu’s goals and actions. After befriending him, Friede and Pikachu become partners and the Rising Volt Tacklers came to be.
First off, this backstory was amazing. It played out like a movie! I do like how Friede quitting his job and losing his drive is parallel to a lot of adults trying to find their place in life in the real world. People say that Pokemon is childish or for a general children’s audience (which it is), but having Friede and the Rising Volt Tacklers be adults and have mature motives for their path in life shows that Pokemon isn’t afraid to bring in an older audience as well. It’s like Mollie’s backstory that was told in episode 11 where she quit her job at the Pokemon Center because working there wasn’t fulfilling for her. Friede quit his job because it wasn’t fulfilling for him. I’m sure there are a lot of adults who relate to this; I relate to this myself!
I like how Pikachu was very hostile towards Friede in the beginning of their encounter. It shows off how much of a wild Pokemon he was back then. He was annoyed with Friede and kept tackling him. I think my favorite part of this episode was Pikachu gathering berries and then rushing off to eat them. I think this is one of the rare moments we see Pikachu behave very animal-like. We never saw Ash’s Pikachu as a wild Pokemon as much since most of his screen time was being a captured Pokemon and a pet of sorts. Seeing how Pikachu respected Friede towards the end of the flashback felt realistic because Pikachu knew Friede was always there and it even saved him from falling. In turn, Friede finding drive in Pikachu was understandable. Life is always full of mysteries and finding that one fateful moment can lead to a myriad of opportunities. Pikachu was definitely Friede’s muse in a way.
The animation was very smooth. The scene where Friede and Charizard flew up to the skies next to Pikachu’s vortex flabbergasted me. I never knew OLM Studio could animate this beautifully. This definitely looks like something shown in a Pokemon film or in a smaller mini-series like Twilight Wings. The way everything kept moving throughout the scene, taking a break when they looked beyond the horizon, and then moving again once Pikachu fell was breathtaking. I may not be an animator, but I can see good animation quality!
I do like how Lucca was the reason why Pikachu and Friede got together. Lucca is also the reason why Liko met the Rising Volt Tacklers. The theme of connection is very prevalent for this anime as it is a bond that expands beyond horizons. I cooed over seeing baby Liko in the episode; she’s so cute. I deduce that the flashback might have occurred at least five or six years ago since Liko is most likely ten or eleven at most. The fact that a mere glimpse of seeing Friede over a video call was the stepping stone of her current life is pretty fascinating in itself.
I also liked learning more about the Rising Volt Tacklers. It turns out that Ludlow and Friede were already acquainted with each other. Orla and Friede are also childhood friends with them both being Kantonians but Orla moved to Hoenn. The fact that Friede was requesting Orla to build an airship from Ludlow’s ship meant that he and Ludlow sailed all the way to the Hoenn region from Paldea. That’s determination right there. The fact that Friede, Cap, Orla and Ludlow were the starting members of the Rising Volt Tacklers seems meaningful now.
I love the little cameo of Larry in the restaurant, showing the game canon of him being a regular at that restaurant. Since this was a few years back, I do wonder if Larry is still a Gym Leader five or six years later and still working overtime. Anyways, I do like that this episode had the opening song play towards the end, signifying the closure of one chapter and the start of a new one. There hasn’t been talks or announcements of a new opening or ending song, so I do wonder where the show will go from here. I think this episode was flawless, but what about you? What do you think about this episode?

WAIT, I always wanted to ask: what's your favorite Pokémon region? I have like 3 regions (maybe 4) that I am super fond of, and I can't really choose between them XD
THUNDER COMIN THROUGH WITH THE SPICY QUESTIONS xD
If we're talking game-wise it's Sinnoh. I've always been at home in Sinnoh because I spent the most time there. GOSH, I JUST REMEMBERED. I really wanted a Pikachu with Volt Tackle as a child so I spent ages grinding Pichus with Thief for a Light Ball and then I actually got a SHINY PICHU in the process and I was so excited.
Anways! Just from the structure of the region I love Kalos the most. Mostly because of the anime. I mean there is a winter are, a fall area, a beach, a mountain, a forest, AND the biggest city we got up until that point in time, I found Kalos so incredibly charming which makes sense considering it's based on France.
AND GOSH THE POKEMON. I love Gen 6 mons they're so amazing. I mean look at Greninja, Noivern, Klefki, Gourgeist, Trevenant, AND AEGISLASH?! What more could you ask for?
Oh yeah... and Megas... the best mechanic ever implemented in Pokemon xD On top of that there is such a huge variety of Pokemon in that region which makes it even more interesting.
I could go on but ya know xD I rarely get to rant like this so I forget what it feels like.
Thanks for the question ^^

Magnetosphere
This started with an amazing bead! I drilled out every "hole" in it and suspended a tiny LED in it. The lighting is a bit more subtle than the other panels I've made but this has a lot of other bits and pieces going on.
I've been amazed at the recent scientific breakthroughs with fusion reactors in Korea and China. I not on love the possibility of abundant clean energy in the future but I also love the names of these experimental machines like Tokamak, Stellarator, Magnetic Mirror, Toroidal Z-pinch, Spheromak. They really do evoke fantasies of portals to a parallel universe or bending space time - the only way we will be able to travel those distances. Einstein's relativity really did take a dump on the possibility to live in a Star Trek type reality.
So this contains an array of "controls" including watch crown "dials". It has a tiny glass fuse (or it could be a magnetic switch - not sure) and spring wire tubing. It is the only panel to feature a clock gear. I love gears - it was one of the reasons I was drawn to the steampunk aesthetic. But, and this is controversial and just my opinion, I think gears are used far too much.
Way back in 2010 there was the "slap a gear on it" by those just wanting to jump on (and profit from) the zenith of the steampunk trend. I use gears sparingly, often not using them at all, and rarely an "orphan" gear. They have to look like they have an actual use in the "machine" even if they don't move. In this design I want the gear to look like it's doing something behind the scene.
If there was such a think as a 6 volt coin battery I would have also back lit the amazing "swirl" stamp at the base of the main feature. Just have to wait for those to be in production. The wire "aerials" coming out of the side of the panel is fishing tackle. To balance the piece I finished it with a small copper strut and brass wheel.
This piece does deserve it's own stand. I will make a special one for it and include another LED to it. It will also come with a standard brass chain.

Fight Like a Champion, chapter 3.
All his life, Hop has lived in his brother's shadow and made it his one dream to one day surpass him. To have not only failed in that, but be crushed into the dirt by both his rivals and best friend, was devastating. To try and broaden his horizons, Leon has suggested he take the position of former champion Cynthia's summer student, travelling all over the mountainous region Sinnoh on archaeological digs and rescue missions. Who knows? It may be just what he needs. And who knows what Cynthia might see in him.
This is the final chapter.
---
At the end of the summer, Hop was on a boat returning to Galar. It had been quite the summer, but he was glad to be back. He’d missed the calm, lush lands he called home, and he’d missed Leon. He even missed Gloria. And he couldn’t wait to show and tell everybody what he’d learned. As the boat approached the shore, Hop saw Leon waving enthusiastically at him. As soon as he was off the boat, Hop ran to Leon and tackled him with a hug.
“So, how was it?” Leon asked.
“It was amazing! Sinnoh is like, the craziest place I’ve been. It has tunnels going under basically every inch of the region, and these cool contests, and their champion actually helps people! No offense. But can we talk later? First, I want to challenge you to a Pokémon battle! And don’t hold back on me!”
Leon was surprised, though he supposed he shouldn’t be. Cynthia had a way of encouraging others. “A Pokémon battle? I thought you were done with those. Three-on-three?”
“You bet. And would you like to raise the stakes a little?”
“That depends- what do you have in mind?”
“If I win, I want an endorsement for next year.”
“I mean, I can give you one regardless, it’s not like I have a limited number.”
“Yeah, but I want to earn it.”
“Well, alright, then,” Leon said, drawing his first pokéball with a competitive gleam in his eye. “You’re on. No win, no endorsement. And I’m not going easy on you.”
Soon, the two brothers were on opposite sides of a local field, their first pokéballs at the ready. Leon sent out Charizard. Hop sent out Dubwool. The fiery dragon looked so awe-inspiring compared to the sheep Pokémon that it barely seemed a fair fight. Leon wondered if Hop hadn’t learned so much after all. But, Hop had said not to hold back.
“Flamethrower,” Leon commanded, and Charizard obeyed, sending out a stream of fire.
“Light screen,” Hop returned, and his Dubwool surrounded himself with a protective barrier of light, blocking out half the dragon’s fire. It was barely damaged from the attack.
“Hm. Status moves,” Leon noted. “And a good choice of them, too- Charizard only uses special moves. Charizard, return.”
Charizard returned to Leon’s pokéball. He then sent out his haxorus as Hop set up a reflect.
Dang. Now he’s got protection from both physical and special moves. But it won’t last. Just gotta get through the next three turns…
Haxorus used earthquake as Hop switched into Cinderace, which struggled to keep its footing as the earthquake did supereffective damage to it. Leon noted that the Cinderace was wearing what looked to be a life orb around its neck. Cinderace and Haxorus exchanged earthquakes and mega kicks until Haxorus fainted, the light screen and reflect had worn off, and Cinderace was barely standing.
Wow, he’s actually pretty good. I should have switched back into Charizard. Well, no more underestimating him. “Charizard, come on out and use dragon pulse!”
Charizard once again entered the battlefield and sent out a beam of draconic energy.
“Cinderace, return! Corviknight, out, and use volt tackle!”
Corviknight emerged and engulfed itself in sparks, flying straight through the purple beam of energy to strike Charizard in the stomach. Charizard roared in pain. When the dust settled, Leon noticed the occa berry tied around Corviknight’s neck.
That’ll halve the damage from a fire-type attack, and I’d like to keep Charizard around to deal with his Cinderace. Maybe it’s time to show him that he’s not the only one who can use items and status moves.
“Rillaboom, out, and use curse!”
The gorilla Pokémon landed on all fours, kicking up dust, and drove one of its drumsticks into its back to activate the curse and raise its attack and defense. Coviknight’s volt tackle barely did anything. Hop grit his teeth once he took notice of its rocky helmet. This was not a good Pokémon to use a physical attacker against.
And he’s got nothing but physical attackers. I can’t wait to see how he handles this.
“Drill peck,” Hop commanded.
“Hammer arm!” Leon returned.
The two Pokémon exchanged blows for a short while, the corviknight clearly taking more damage. In the midst of it, Hop commanded corviknight to roost. Lacking any healing options, Leon used those opportunities to use curse again, pushing Rillaboom’s stats to their extremes. In the end, Corviknight fell to a final blow by Rillaboom, but Rillaboom was clearly low on health.
“Corviknight, return. Cinderace, get in quick with a pyro ball!”
“Hammer arm!”
Rillaboom was extremely slow from using curse, and pyro ball took it out before it could strike. However, Cinderace was clearly feeling the effects of the life orb. Breathing heavily, it fell to its knees and then passed out. The two trainers returned their Pokémon.
“So this is it. My dubwool, your charizard. Just like we started,” Hop said.
“It hardly seems fair,” Leon replied.
“Well, Charizard has taken more damage,” Hop pointed out.
Someone’s confident, Leon noted, nodding in acknowledgement. He then tossed out his pokéball. Hop did the same.
“Flamethrower!”
“Head smash!”
Charizard breathed all the fire it could, but Dubwool charged through it, leaping into the air to get in a very type-effective hit. Charizard flew up higher to avoid it. It smirked and sent out another stream of fire. Dubwool growled and used double-kick against the ground to shoot itself into the sky, higher than Charizard. Charizard was so stunned it stopped breathing fire, able only to look up at its opponent. Dubwool descended upon it hard with a headsmash, delivering a ferocious blow to Charizard’s chest. Charizard fell out of the sky and smacked into the ground, defeated. Dubwool wiped out on its side as well, clearly damaged. Hop and Leon watched in bated breath to see if Dubwool would get up.
Please get up. A win would do more for him than a draw would for me.
Dubwool rose unsteadily to its hooves. Hop looked like he couldn’t quite believe his eyes. Then, he ran over to hug it.
“You did it! Oh my God. Dubwool, we did it!”
Dubwool snuggled into him.
“Yep, you got me! Guess you’re getting that endorsement. Now you wanna come in and tell me more about Sinnoh?”
Hop looked up at his brother. “Hm. Oh, yeah, definitely! There’s just one thing I want to do first, alright?”
“Ha. Okay, but don’t keep me waiting too long. And heal your team if you’re going into wild areas!”
Hop did. Aside from the obvious safety issues of wandering into the slumbering weald with only a hurt Dubwool, he wanted to keep Dubwool alert and by his side for this. He kept a hand on its back as they traveled through the mist, relying on Dubwool’s excellent sense of direction.
“Is this about the place I first met Zazmazenta?” he asked it. The dubwool nodded.
Hop looked around. “Zazmazenta? Are you there?” he asked to the trees.
Something moved. It was gone in an instant. Hop turned around and found himself face-to-face with the mighty red wolf. Stunned, Hop fell backward. Zazmazenta pounced on him and started licking his face.
“No hard feelings for releasing you, huh?”
Hop picked himself up. “So, Zamazenta. I figured out what I’m gonna do with my life. I’m gonna enter next year’s championship, and a while after that, I’m gonna be a Pokémon ranger. Do you want to join me for that?”
Zamazenta nodded in response.
“Great! I’ll come back here and have Cinderace shoot fire into the sky whenever I have another adventure to take you on.”
Hop cupped Zamazenta’s face. This was a Pokemon dedicated to protecting the region. He was going to do his best to be perfect for it. “You and I, Zamazenta, we’re going to be heroes of Galar together.”

Zebstrika pushed his Hoove down harder once she startedspeaking, he didn't want to HEAR IT NOT while he was forcing his cock deeper into her cunt, pounding her weak human cervix with the flat huge tip of his cock as his balls slammed into her clit and thighs, he could always give her a nice LOVING shock female zebstrika's seemed to love it so it was a great idea for the dumb bitches who thought they could command creatures who should be Considered GODS, so he decided fuckit as his cock was wrapped in electicity while he used Volt tackle, wether she broke first or her brain was fried into a slutty pokécock addicted mess this bitch was going to learn her place as HIS sow.
Dawn quickly shut up when his hoof press harder against her head. It made it throb with pain. She's never seen pokemon act like this. Dawn was completely ashamed to admit but it felt amazing to be so roughly taken. Though she was terrified of carrying the Zebstrika's offspring. They would no doubt be large and she was still such a young teen. Moans left her lips each time he slammed into her. Her body helplessly jolted forward and back, submitting to his wants. Suddenly a scream left her as she felt the shocks of the pokemon's Volt attack go through her. Dawn violently shook as the electricity went though her whole body. Tears rolled down her cheeks from the overwhelming feeling, "I-i'm sorry! I-i submit to you!" She choked out, not wanting to take another hit from that attack. She broke under him. Expressing submissive body language and no longer struggling against him. Allowing him to breed her like he desired.

Mega Man ZX Thoughts
Overall, pretty positive
Biggest issue was getting lost a lot in the first hour
I feel like the transformations were a natural evolution of weapon switching
Model H was clearly the best
I enjoyed the buster edit
I liked the more Metroidvania feel even if it wasn’t super fleshed out
I feel like the side content was way too easy to miss
Human form felt like kind of a pain to have to switch back to
I enjoyed getting to pick my character at the start
Am I crazy or did Model ZX not have an energy bar?
Despite that, it was so OP to just spin slash bosses
Best spin slash in the whole series, love being able to repeat it
I kind of enjoyed the Level Victory system
It was funny to see phantom after him being absent for three gamess
Plot was….fine, I guess
I thought it was funny to get to play as a human for once
I felt like there should’ve always just been a map on the bottom screen or at least an option to always have that regardless of model
I played with the bottom screen absent 99% of the time, the top screen set to full screen
I really like a couple of the music tracks
I felt like the mission system was weirdly restrictive, I’d rather have just been allowed to explore and tackle whatever boss I happened to run into
Ended with a huge surplus of energy crystals
I will say I don’t feel like I got any stronger over the course of this game
I literally turbo murdered the final boss with the model zx spin slash, which I had almost the entire game
I did enjoy how quickly I could kill some of the bosses once I got personally better at the game
I appreciated that casual mode just offered a couple concessions instead of breaking the entire profession system like in Zero
Swords > guns
I loved shooting upwards as Model F like in his mini game from one of the zero games
Model L was done dirty
I didn’t get Model O or do the link content but it’s cool that it’s there
It’s so funny when civilians freak out when you try to talk to them but then don’t freak out at all when you transform right in front of them
The HD Remastered cutscenes are amazing
My spreadsheet for keeping track of all these games is called “Operation Rock On”, since they say “rock on” in the Japanese version instead of “mega merge”
I don’t think I ever used phantom’s ceiling hang in an actual fight
Never used the bottom screen in a useful way besides buster edit
Loved all the sprite art
Got 3 of the chips
I believe this game is being run at AGDQ2023 in just a couple weeks!
Side note: this means only 4 mega man games remain! The last handheld game and then the 3 modern but retro styled classic mega man games!
Also, I am open to suggestions on this, but I’ve started a little list of mega man-likes to check out at a later time. Actually going back and finishing shovel knight is at the top of that list, but also 20/30xx, gunman Clive, mighty no 9 (but ironically), azure striker gun volt. Maybe shantae.

Pokemon Horizons Episode 31 Review - The Ploy In The Fog
While this entire episode was primarily buildup to the reveal of the fourth of the Six Hero Pokemon, I did like the mystery building up around the Lapras. A cargo ship thought it was helping them escape a fog, when it reality, it looted their food. The Pokedex entry even mentions how it is a kind-hearted Pokemon. That means it should be a good Pokemon, right?
Tumblr media
I really liked the buildup of the reveal of the Lapras. I initially thought it was helping out sailors, until clues about a more sinister motive start floating in like the empty cargo boxes with the same logo as the ones the sailors were hoarding back onto their boat. Once the Ambipom and Toedscruel came and stole the berries, I instantly knew that this was a ploy. It seems that the Hero Pokemon Lapras has been living a life of hardships to the point it created a band of pirates to steal food from ships. My question is: why? I guess it’ll be answered in the next episode. However, it really does make me wonder if it does this out pure malice or out of survival; I’m leaning towards the latter.
Also, seeing the Brave Asagi being used as a ship was amazing; I think it’s been the first instance the boat mode shown ever since it was an older fishing boat. Heck, I think this is also the first instance where Ludlow has more screen time than he usually does! That’s amazing in itself. Other than Ludlow, everyone on the Brave Asagi had their fair share of screen time too. They all helped out with Friede’s plans to find the mystery behind the stolen food by baiting them with food. It was nice to see Captain Pikachu use its Rising Volt Tackle again.
Although Fuecoco is super adorable, it has been used as comic relief and the butt of some jokes in recent episodes. To see it finally have some relevance in showing the true intent of having people tail Lapras made me happy. Who knew being a glutton could actually be helpful at times? On the topic of Pokemon, the Poltergeist and Sinister from the previous episode makes an appearance in this episode as they give tea to Mollie and Orla. I’m glad that they’re adjusting well to their new life on the ship. I’m actually surprised to see another Ambipom since the last appearance of Dawn’s back in the DP era. This Ambipom is voiced by Nanase Nishino, who plays the main character in the Pokemon-themed live action drama Pack Your Pocket With Adventure. It’s also nice to see a Toedscruel too! It seems that the pirate Pokemon are from all different regions. Though, it does make me wonder where this particular episode takes place. Are they still in Galar? Did they leave Galar?
If you noticed, instead of Friede’s seminar, there’s a small short about Terapagos called The Brilliant Terapagos Expedition where the titular Pokemon does cute things. This segment is focusing on its relationship with Sprigatito. Given that there will be three of these, I’m assuming the last two will be focused on the other two Paldean Starters. I can’t wait to see what their interactions will be like.
I think I’ll end my review here since there isn’t really much more to talk about; it was a very straightforward episode. I’m actually digging the Lapras’s hardened appearance with the scars and damaged shell. What about you? What are your thoughts on Lapras and the episode in general?

Loki and Blaze had gone out to the park, and the kid was loving it.
Blaze gasped, crouching down and carefully grabbing something from the grass. Fire then sped over to Loki, holding up a small bug. “Loki look! A ladybug!”
Loki looked at him and cracked a smile. “Well wouldya look at that.” God this kid was adorable. He was tall as fuck though, almost as tall as volt. It was kinda funny honestly. The kid was only around a thousand but he was still a goddamn beanstalk.
Blaze ran off again, probably to go look at a bird or something.
———————————————————————
Sleet was sorting the new souls his master had gotten. She was so talented and amazing. He sighed. Ink really was one of the best demons in existence. He was so lucky mar had taken an interest in him after that deal.
Vol snapped to attention and Lilith entered the room. “How is it going~” Her voice was silky smooth and just as amazing as the rest of her was.
“Ah- it’s going well. It’s a little overwhelming though, ahah. You’re just so good at it- there’s a lot.” Always sprinkle in some compliments whenever you even hint at a complaint. Igni deserved it after all. Wouldn’t want to make himself seem ungrateful or anything.
Ros smirked and patted vol’s head. “Aww, you’ll get it done eventually. No need to rush~” Hearts tailtip flicked towards him.
———————————————————————
Persephone sighed, sinking into the living room chair. Ugh, xer wings hurt. Its tail hurts. Everything hurts. “Ughhhhhhh” Zey groaned.
“Tough day dear?” Hades looked at her concernedly. He always was one to worry.
“Mmhm. Ya know that rich fuck? The one with the space program? He died today, had to run around and listen to everyone suggest their own torture for him. So many demons.” Dae put mar hands over void head. It was exhausting.
Hades patted mer arm sympathetically, listening to spark rant.
———————————————————————
Hellion ran into the room and tackle-hugged her boyfriend. “Babe!”
Sparrow laughed, hugging her back. “I was only gone for a day, calm down!” Bee teased
“I missed youuuu” Dae pouted. Inc only had so much time with him, unless he… no no, not yet. She would offer him the option later, when they had been together for more of his lifespan.
———————————————————————
Seraph stalked through the trees, keeping his eyes on the disgusting creature he was shadowing. The demon got up, stretching. Light drew lights sword, shooting towards the creature. It screamed and tried to run, but bright was faster. He cut it in half, the demonic screeches and wails music to his ears. Dei wiped the disgusting blood off deir sword, burning the body to ash with holy light. Horrible creatures, don’t even have the grace to die without inconveniencing him. He perked up, being called by Them. “Ah, of course. I will be there in a moment.” Light quickly unsummoned lights sword, flapping lights wings and shooting up into the air. Ether had more demons to kill.
———————————————————————
Aether yelped, tripping on… something and falling through the clouds. Oh no. Oh no no no no no- He hit the ground. The non-fluffy, solid ground. Cir whimpered, looking around with a wide eye. “Oh n-no…” Lights wings fluttered nervously. How was nim going to get back to heaven now?! Its wings weren’t strong enough to fly back up, it was only 500! It wasn’t even supposed to be able to get here! He peered at the unfamiliar surroundings, getting more and more scared by the second.
———————————————————————
Galaxy stretched, her wings flaring out as she did so. It was a lazy saturday and light wanted to visit some human friends. Maybe preform some miracles. Star was a bit low on stars quota, and helping people was something star liked to do anyways. “Who should I visit first…” Xe mumbled to xerself, flapping down to the surface.
———————————————————————
Boa scoffed at the demon on the other side of the arena, its grin stretching across its face. This was what he loved. Fighting for survival (and a fuckton of money, sometimes souls) in the arena with opponents who wouldn’t hesitate to gut him. Of course, fang wouldn’t hesitate to end them either. And everyone knew it. “So ya gonna start slashin’ or can I take a nap~?” Liz taunted, hoping to bait them into an ambush.

Cossacks and Mavericks: White like Roses
In a meadow full of flowers, Elizabelle walked with a bouquet of flowers in her hands. She smiled to herself.
“Glad to finally have all the flowers Optic Sunflower needed for her new dance dress-” Elizabelle soon noticed something lying in the meadow. She approached slowly, unsure of what to expect. She soon came upon the strange figure. It was orange, with wings, and appeared cat-like. “An exceed?” Elizabelle kneeled down and set down the flowers and gently lifted the exceed into her arms. She looked down at the orange Exceed, he had a black visor where his eyes would’ve been. Elizabelle raised an eyebrow. In a nearby tree, an unfamiliar, yet unfriendly face watched. She had short brown hair with white highlights on the left, light skin, red eyes, a red dress with gold trimmings, and glass heels.
“So, she’s the one I’m looking for~” The stranger whispered. She smirked slightly as she watched the fox leave the meadow. Elizabelle carried the Exceed in her one arm and held a basket full of flowers in the other hand. She had a weird feeling as she walked.
“Maybe it was a bad idea coming to Vale for flower picking…” Elizabelle whispered to herself.
Back in Russia, Optic Sunflower stood on round platform, as Rarity placed pins on around the fabric that rested on the Reploid’s feminine, yet lanky frame.
“R-rarity, I think this is a little too tight.” Optic Sunflower pressed, feeling she could barely turn her torso. Rarity, who had multiple pins in her mouth, sighed.
“Please darling, give me a moment to straighten it all out. I’d be done much quicker if I had the Valerian Iridescent roses.” Rarity replied as she placed another pin. Drill Man grew confused.
“Can’t you just use the Russian roses?” Drill Man wondered, which earned him a slap to the back of the head by Sunset Shimmer. “Oww! What was that for?!” Drill Man cried.
“The kind of Roses Rarity needs have strong stems, no other rose would cut it.” Sunset Shimmer explained with a sigh. Drill Man rubbed the back of his head.
“But did that REALLY require a smack to my head?” Drill man questioned. Sunset Shimmer shrugged her shoulders with a silent giggle. Skull man rolled his eyes. Dark Mantis leaned against a wall, his scythe-like arms folded. He had been silent for that entire time until something came to him.
“Has anyone seen Elizabelle lately?” Dark Mantis finally spoke up. Rarity turned her head.
“Oh, I sent her to Vale to get the Roses.” Rarity replied. All the Cossacks and Mavericks in the room turned to Rarity, even Dark mantis appeared shocked.
“You sent Belle ALONE into Vale?!” Pharaoh man cried.
“With all the dangerous creatures running amuck?!” Storm Eagle shouted. Rarity bit her lip.
“Oh dear.. I… I had no idea…” Rarity whimpered.
Back in Vale, Elizabelle contuied to walk through the meadow, and soon heard a groan. She stopped and looked down and saw the exceed waking up. The exceed’s visor activated and after some static, a pair of red ovals appeared on the visor.
“W-who are you?” The exceed asked nervously. Elizabelle smiled at the exceed.
“I’m Elizabelle, what’s your name?” Elizabelle replied.
“I-I’m Fox-Trot.” Fox-Trot nervously introduced. While this was happening, the mysterious female placed her hand on her comm-link.
“Yes, Queen Dust?” She answered.
“Cinder, have you found the exceed yet?” Queen Dust asked through the comm-link. Cinder began to smirk with a slight laugh.
“Oh I found your little exceed, alright, and found a girl who might be of interest to you.” Cinder responded.
“Go on, I’m listening.” Queen Dust stated with extreme interest. Cinder smirked as she watched the fox walk away.
”You wouldn't happen to know an anthro fox, would you?” Cinder replied at last.
Soon enough, the Cossacks and Mavericks were teleported to Vale, more specifically, the outskirts. Yammark was surprised by what she saw.
”Why, this place is so beautiful, it's almost too hard to believe this country is dangerous.” Yammark stated. Storm Eagle prepared his buster.
”You better believe it, that this place is dangerous.” Storm Eagle retorted. Not far from the group, a pair of red eyes stared from the woods. Volt Catfish’s key began to glow. In turn, he gasped and turned around quickly, grabbing Blast Hornet’s attention.
”What’s the matter Catfish?” Blast Hornet asked.
”Those eyes staring us down.” Volt Catfish replied. Suddenly a large, black creature with a white face jumped out from the woods, followed by several others like it. Which caught the attention of the other Mavericks and the Cossacks. Bright man grew horrified.
”Wha- what are those?!” Bright Man cried. Before the creatures could fully close in on the group. Armored Armadillo came in front of everyone and crossed his shields, and created an energy shield around everyone. The creatures stopped in front of the shield and began to slash at and attack the shield. Gravity Antonion approached the edge of the shield and looked at the creatures.
”What in Dr. Cain's name are you?” He asked out loud. Toad Man rested his index finger on his chin.
”How are we supposed to figure out what these are?” Toad Man asked. Gravity Antonion turned to Toad Man.
”I’ll need a sample.” The ant maverick responded. Flame Mammoth stormed up to the edge of the shield, causing Gravity Antonion to move. The mammoth maverick punched his hand out from the shield and tore a chunk of hair from one of the creatures, causing it to back away and snarl. He pulled his hand back through and handed the chunk of hair to Gravity Antonion.
”Here’s your sample.” Flame Mammoth stated.
”Thank...you?” Gravity Antonion confusingly replied. Soon the creatures left, almost as if they were called upon by something. Once they were gone, Armored Armadillo uncrossed his shields and the energy shield disappeared. Dark Mantis turned to Gravity Antonion.
”You go back and study that, Antonion.” Dark Mantis spoke.
”Will do, I will let you all know when I finish.” Gravity Antonion assured. He soon was teleported out. The group soon went on their way.
As Elizabelle left the meadow, she pulled out a necklace from under her shirt, a small silver chain with a magenta and orange marbled jewel. Elizabelle sighed heavily. Fox-Trot took notice of the gem.
”Elizabelle, where’d you get that Hensō jewel from?” Fox-Trot asked. Elizabelle bit her lip.
’No one will understand nor want you if they know.’ Elizabelle shuddered as she heard that voice in her head.
”Well, I…” Elizabelle stammered, trying to figure out what to say. However, she could fully respond, glass shards flew in their direction, Fox-Trot freaked out and Elizabelle ran away, as she did, one of the shards hit the Hensō jewel, cracking it. However, several other shards struck Elizabelle’s body she soon fell to her knees in pain. Cinder approached the fox. Elizabelle turned around and looked her attacker in the eye.
”You should know better than take Things that don't belong to you.” Cinder sneered, she approached the downed pair and pulled out her bow and arrow. She pulled back the arrow and released it. Elizabelle and Fox-Trot braced themselves. However, pair were suddenly scooped up by something fast. Cinder shocked.
”No!” Cinder cried. Elizabelle quickly opened her eyes.
”Ostrich!” Elizabelle cried, relieved to see the maverick.
”Hey Belle, glad to see you’re alright.” Overdrive Ostrich replied. He noticed the exceed in Elizabelle’s arms. ”Who’s your friend?” The ostrich maverick asked.
”Fox-Trot, I found him in the meadow.” Elizabelle explained.
Later on after returning to Russia, Rarity finally finished Optic Sunflower’s dance dress.
”There we go, all done.” Rarity beamed. Optic Sunflower looked in the mirror and did a spin.
”This is amazing Rarity, thank you.” Optic Sunflower cheered. Rarity smiled at the sunflower maverick.
”Of course dear, and now you can dazzle the dance floor.” Rarity responded. Toxic Seahorse rolled his eyes. Sunset Shimmer took notice.
”What, do you want a dance dress too?” Sunset Shimmer teased. Toxic Seahorse recoiled slightly.
”Wha-what? No! I-mean…” Toxic Seahorse stammered as he became flustered. Rarity chuckled slightly.
”Don’t worry dear, there’s no shame in wanting a dress for dancing.” Rarity assured. Toxic Seahorse shook his head as his blush faded.
”No, it's not that, ” Toxic Seahorse differed. He turned his attention to Optic Sunflower. ”Just can’t have anyone best me at dancing.” Toxic Seahorse sneered. Optic Sunflower grew livid. She carefully got out of her new dress and tackled Toxic Seahorse. The pair began to roll on the floor from their fight.
Later on that night Gravity Antonion studied the sample he received earlier. He carefully examined it as he studied. However, checked the time and decided to call it a night and headed off to bed.
End.

Me vs Hackmon
After a great many hours of poking it (again, without ever playing the goddamn game, because Excel-sheets are more fun?) I’ve updated my amazing bullshit-team of awesomeness.
Top of the list is of course:
Pokemon: Pikachu Ability: Sheer Force Item: Light Ball Moveset: Thunderbolt / Psychic / Glaciate / Crunch
By the regular method of “dmg calculation“ (bigger than 40 is powerful, over 50 is very good), Pikachu’s Thunderbolt literally hits for 69. (And Psychic is 46.)
This damn thing is absolutely terrifying, and I love it.
Second is “the only interesting Dark-type thing I could come up with“ (without just resorting to “Judgment with Dread Plate” on a Zoroark with Adaptability):
Pokemon: Hydreigon Ability: Contrary Item: Wide Lens Moveset: Draco Meteor / Dragon Pulse / Dark Pulse / Secret Sword
Kind of lackluster in the sense that it’s already something well-known in competitive fights, having a Sp.Atk that raises your own Sp.Atk by two stages every turn? It’s definitely on the terrifying side of things. (After a single Draco Meteor, the Dark Pulse hits for 72.)
  After that comes our weather-control:
Pokemon: Swanna Ability: Drizzle Item: Sharp Beak Moveset: Surf / Waterfall / Hurricane / Thunder
Water is always an extremely frustrating thing to create when you’re only looking at the numbers, and even this one (which is pretty much as high as they can go without set-up turns) only goes for 44 (Surf), and 45 (Hurricane).
(The normal is that good Surf-users tend to clock in at around 30)
After this comes our Magic Guard-user:
Pokemon: Archeops Ability: Magic Guard Item: Life Orb Moveset: Brave Bird / Strength / Flare Blitz / Fly
Since Strength is a Rock-move (in Blaze Black), it’s easily the most terrifying Magic Guard user I’ve managed to make with regards to pure damage-output. It clocks in at 66 for Brave Bird, 47 for Strength, and 44 for Flare Blitz.
After this is our Fighting-type, which is a return to the classics:
Pokemon: Primeape Ability: No Guard Item: Black Belt Moveset: High Jump Kick / Dark Void / Cut / Dive
It hits for 56, and can use an AOE-Sleep if it needs to. Very simplistic, but also very effective.
Finally, our Ground-type (carefully selected for one that isn’t weak to Ice):
Pokemon: Excadrill Ability: Speed Boost Item: Soft Sand Moveset: Earthquake / Protect / Brick Break / Flash
Kind of boring with its 49-dmg Earthquake, but it’s very much a necessary evil for dealing with Electric-types.
Fun things that I wasn’t able to use in the team (because of Type-weaknesses and personal rules like “only one version of this Ability/Item per team”). Also includes a few really cool things you can do with Hackmon.
Pokemon: Flygon Ability: Contrary Item: Wide Lens Moveset: Draco Meteor / Earth Power / Secret Sword / Dragon Pulse
Hitting with an Earth Power of 62 after a single Draco Meteor, this one is pretty scary. Unfortunately, there’s some fierce competition over the “Sp.Atk Dragon with Contrary“-position.
Pokemon: Staraptor Ability: Magic Guard Item: Life Orb Moveset: Brave Bird / Facade / Fly / Volt Tackle
Special mention for being the scariest fucking anti-Poison thing I’ve thought up, seeing as it hits with a 68-dmg Facade when poisoned. And otherwise has a 58-dmg Brave Bird to lean on.
Pokemon: Zoroark Ability: Adaptability Item: Dread Plate Moveset: Judgment
Clocking in at an even 60-dmg Judgment (Dark), this one is very powerful, but unfortunately also extremely limited in its utility (it’s pure Dark-dmg, with no inherent flexibility).
Pokemon: Gothitelle Ability: Simple Item: Leftovers Moveset: Shell Smash / Stored Power / Dark Pulse
One of the absolutely most powerful pokemon in the game (if it can survive its first turn), clocking in at a 280-dmg Stored Power and a 97-dmg Dark Pulse. Unfortunately, I really dislike having set-up turns (especially ones that leave me vulnerable during them).
Pokemon: Gengar Ability: Adaptability Item: Spell Tag Moveset: Sludge Wave / Shadow Ball
Clocking in at a solid 51 / 51 dmg for both moves, this one has the very unfortunate flaw of having a Type-weakness to the same thing that it would be used against (Psychic and Ghost).
Pokemon: Conkeldurr Ability: Huge Power Item: Black Belt Moveset: Mach Punch
I never want to resort to Huge Power, but a special mention should still go to this one, for managing to reach a 41-dmg Priority-move. Which is insane.
Pokemon: Conkeldurr Ability: Simple Item: Black Belt Moveset: Sword Dance / Mach Punch
Again, it’s forced to use a set-up turn. But it does clock in at 61-dmg, with a Priority-move. So... yeah.
Pokemon: Staraptor Ability: Unburden Item: Flying Gem Moveset: Acrobatics
Yes, it does check out. The Flying Gem is consumed, and then Acrobatics counts itself as “no item”. So for one attack, it’s one hell of a move, clocking in at 61-dmg. (And then doubling your Speed, thanks to Unburden) Unfortunately, it would need to be “reloaded“ after every single fight, and I’d hate it.
Pokemon: Marowak Ability: Speed Boost Item: Thick Club Moveset: Protect / Earthquake
Reaching a very respectable 53-dmg Earthquake, it needs a turn to set-up for some reasonable speed.
Pokemon: Krookodile Ability: Adaptability Item: Black Glasses Moveset: Crunch / Earthquake
At 49-dmg Earthquake and 47-dmg Crunch, it’s very good. But in comparison to some of the other ridiculousness that can be made with Hackmon, it’s just kind of bland.
Pokemon: Lucario Ability: Simple Item: Black Belt Moveset: Tail Glow / Aura Sphere
Clocking in at a terrifying 97-dmg Aura Sphere, this one still requires set-up.
Pokemon: Scrafty Ability: Moxie Item: Wide Lens Moveset: High Jump Kick
Included in this list because of a mention from @waffliesinyoface, way back in the day, this one clocks in at 38-dmg until first kill, then goes up to a respectable 57-dmg.
And that’s of course excluding things like “Shuckle with Soundproof and Perish Song“, seeing as that doesn’t really have damage to measure in this way.
