I really have to hand it to Remedy for how they handle their moments of "the player does something while Old Gods of Asgard plays in the background". The first time around it was pretty simple, first time they did it. Fight off hordes of enemies with Barry on stage while the music plays.

The Ashtray Maze is something just so special. You have the moments of the great gameplay fighting off hiss, but for the most part its just taking in and being awestruck by the Oldest House moving and shifting around you, as the song guides you through the maze. I greatly appreciate the fact they made the arcade game in AWE so you could go revisit it whenever you wanted to.

And then we have the two different moments in Alan Wake 2. The musical number, a moment of absurdity and surrealism amongst all of the horror. Plus I love the little bit of fourth wall breaking when Alan sings near the end "can you help me out?" as you then go to the plot board.

And then we have Dark Ocean Summoning, very reminiscent of the Children of the Elder Gods sequence from the the first Alan Wake game. But you have two people helping you, Casey and Estevez, calling out enemy locations, destroying darkness shields and supplying ammo. With the Old Gods of Asgard right there with you this time. The stakes just seemed so much higher in that fight, so much more tension about what was about to happen.

Just such unique pieces all centered around a rather simple idea. Love them for it.

i think if i had watched mission impossible when i was younger, like at any point in most of my life so far, i would have been like, whatever i don’t care, because i’m a film idiot. i HAD to see it after coming to understand that filmmaking is an artform the backwards way, by watching 80000000 hours of the mcu being so ugly and visually uninspired and stupid looking. if you are like me and you do it in that order then by the time you get to the shot of the neon sign of the aquarium restaurant in mission impossible you’re like “holy shit what a beautiful and revelatory work of art.” i still think about the overhead shot of the spiral staircase like once a week

As someone who has played FE since FE7 came out in the west and have since played the games prior to and after it, I really don’t see how Engage is “the best FE game of all time” and yadda yadda that people keep claiming. Just because it has more customization and “freedom” doesn’t... automatically make it a better game? Personally I get more aggravated when there’s too much freedom and too many options for gameplay. Even Houses had a tad too much customization that I rarely use because it had so many menus and I love Houses.

Sure, I liked Engage, but I can’t see why it’s suddenly the bestest theeng evur just because it’s the newest entry. I had more fun with Hopes playing AG than the entirety of Engage, and I can compare them because they both reused old characters, so there was a similar feeling of interest being able to see old characters again. Other than that, I’m interested in like... two, maybe three characters tops in Engage.

Soren is pretty much the only Emblem perfectly on point who wasn’t almost entirely generic with conversations. Sigurd had fewer generic conversations and was completely ooc, so that was a big fat wah wah for me (because as we all know, IntSys pretends canon Sigurd does not exist in the whole franchise now and only uses ghost!Sigurd’s like five lines of dialogue as his only and whole personality).

Honestly I think I’m kind of getting bitter toward Engage as an entry because people keep saying it’s the best FE game ever made, especially for gameplay (big ol’ lel from me), but it’s almost always at the expense of Three Houses in one way or another, about how Houses is a worse game. It’s... really not. Oh noooo, they didn’t use anti-aliasing, the whole game suuucks. 😒

(Oh yeah, and FE9 was supposed to be the original hub world game where you got to run around at a base camp and all that fun stuff, so uhhh... that kind of thing has nothing to do with newer entries being better and all that stuff.)

Also, I am being 110% more critical of these people and Engage right now because I have a headache and have felt pretty crappy without even being sick for the past few days. :’)

I haven't been on much, nor have I been able to make much progress on my fics or black speech conlang, as I've been having some medical issues

I have a spinal cord stimulator because of an incomplete spinal cord injury that leaves me in constant severe pain. The implant broke so I've been either in severe pain or high from pain killers and neither situation is good for writing or conlanging.

I have surgery to replace it on the 24th, and after I heal from that and taper off the pain meds I should be a lot more productive. I got a lot of ideas I want to work on once I'm better

#For the curious :spinal cord stimulators (scs) act like noise canceling headphones and sent electric signals down my spine #And this signals cancel out the pain #My body responds AMAZINGLY to it WHEN IT WORKS #like I tried EVERYTHING from uninvasive to invasive to surgical to physical therapy #And a SCS was the ONLY I ever tried thst got my pain low enough that I didn't need opioids to have a good quality of life #Which is awesome for so many reasons

I just thought of two of the biggest plot twists for my two favourite oc and I can’t wait to write them but that will be so far away especially with where I am at now, Faeron’s plot twist comes in like the last part of LOTR I believe but it starts being hinted at soon and Thalion’s plot twist comes in the hobbit in a movie added scene kinda, but they will be so amazing if I can write them well.
