Logos and Pathos Pride Special 2023
Spock x Empath! Reader
“So Earth didn’t always accept those with gender or sexuality identities outside of the binary?” asked Spock, raising an eyebrow as he regarded the humans of the Bridge in surprise.
“Weird…” said (Y/N), shrugging.
“Green-blooded imp and empty-headed goldie, muttered Bones. “Showing off as usual.”
Kirk clapped Bones on his back. “You know how they are.”
“Don’t I,” agreed Bones.
Uhura smiled and waved a hand. “Well, they’re not wrong. I mean, that’s why we’re celebrating today.”
Sulu nodded. “Yes, we’re celebrating that we have the ability to be ourselves now without fear.”
(Y/N) brightened. “Can we join you guys in ‘Pride’?” they asked excitedly.
Uhura smiled. “That would be so much fun!”
“What do we do at Pride?” asked Spock.
Kirk shrugged. “Typically, people wear a pin or shirt to show their identity that they’re proud of, and then we just hang around with music and food.”
“Oh, so a festival?” said (Y/N).
Sulu nodded. “I bring my boyfriend, too,” he said.
(Y/N) smiled. “Spock and I should definitely go!”
Spock glanced at them. He was not one for parties, but if (Y/N) wanted to go, he would. After all, who wouldn’t be proud to date them?
“What would be appropriate for us at this event?” asked Spock, ever the researcher.
“Well, I know that (Y/N) is nonbinary, so a pronoun pin would be good, and I think they’re sexuality fits pansexual best, so I could do their makeup,” said Uhura.
(Y/N) grinned. “Right on the nose, my sexuality does translate to pansexual in this language.”
Uhura smiled and flipped her hair. “I know these things. Captain, Doctor, take care of Commander Spock. Sulu and I will find a pin and makeup for (Y/N).”
She left no room for argument as she dragged (Y/N) away with her and Sulu followed after. (Everyone knew that when Uhura took charge, she was in charge. And to be fair, she always knew what she was doing. Uhura was the underrated heroine of the Enterprise.)
“Guess that leaves us with the hobgoblin,” said Bones.
Kirk, fiddling with the bi pin on her shirt, smiled. “Alright, Spock, how would you describe your sexuality?”
Spock considered, and he approached the question with his usual scientific mind. “I do not easily become attached to others in a romantic sense. I prefer to know them as people and understand their mind before I gain any…feelings.” He didn’t like admitting to feelings, but as he was dating (Y/N), it was a pretty unavoidable topic.
“That sounds like the asexuality spectrum,” said Bones. “Needing a connecting in some other way before gaining any of the ickier emotions. If only I’d been smart enough to do that with my ex-wife,” he grumbled.
“I think Scotty has some pins for asexuality,” said Kirk brightly. “I’ll go grab one. And then we can head off to the party and dance!”
“I will not be dancing,” said Spock.
“Yeah, but (Y/N) will, so buckle up, hobgoblin,” said Bones.
l
“Spock!” (Y/N) eagerly ran over to their boyfriend as the music played and various crew members milled about in one of the recreation halls, decorated for the Pride event the humans were hosting. “I like the pin.”
Spock nodded. “It is small and does not impede any of my official uniform and insignia.”
“I like mine, I’m gonna keep them,” said (Y/N), showing off their pan flag pin and they/them pin. “And Uhura did my makeup.” They closed their eyes, showing the light application of eyeshadow showing the pan flag makeup.
Spock nodded and smothered a smile at (Y/N)’s eagerness. “Very well crafted.”
“Thanks.” (Y/N) knew that was Spock giving a compliment.
They hesitated a moment before reaching out and linking their arm with his. Spock responded by sliding his hand down and held their hand. (Y/N) turned pink, not expecting the affection but happy nonetheless. They were still learning how to navigate their and Spock’s relationship, but to know he felt secure enough to express his affection in Vulcan manners was nice.
“We have not been on many dates,” said Spock quietly, watching as the crew members of the Enterprise laughed, talked, and danced. Many couples were close, clearly on a date together.
(Y/N) shrugged and said teasingly, “Well, we’ve been a little busy doing our duties.”
“I have a duty to the Enterprise but also to you,” said Spock.
“That’s sweet, Spock,” said (Y/N).
“It is the truth,” said Spock. “I am aware that I am not the typical significant other, and that I do not show my…feelings as well as others, but I do want you to know you are wanted.”
(Y/N) laughed. “Spock, I don’t doubt you for a second. Just because you show that you care about people differently than others doesn’t make you a worse boyfriend somehow. I like you for you. Besides—” they squeezed his hand, showing that they understood what the gesture was for him “—you make sure I feel loved.”
“I would still like to take you on more proper dates,” said Spock.
“I won’t stop you from wining and dining me,” teased (Y/N), leaning up and giving Spock a kiss on the cheek.
Spock was unable to smother a small smile. “You deserve to be treated well.” He leaned towards them and kissed them for a moment. “I love you, (Y/N),” he said quietly.
(Y/N) smiled and held his hand tightly. “I love you, too, Spock.”

I imagine spock really struggled with being on the enterprise at first. Until Kirk, of course.
It wasn’t like the academy, no routine since they are literally just exploring and running last minute errands, the barricaded social system of humans, and Spock loves routine. And Kirk notices this very quickly, the little ways he’s irritated when a new mission pops up, or when someone is sick and the usual bridge crew isn’t the same.
It’s very clear spock also loves logic, so Kirk (who despite his best attempts at being down to earth and like the rest of the crew, can’t get anyone to act normal around him off the clock) decides to ask Spock to a game of space chess before they retire to their quarters.
And given the passion for routine spock has, Kirk keeps asking him each night until it becomes like a little dance. Kirk having someone who’s professionalism around him is just his default behavior, and spock having a rock at the end of the day to lean upon. Whenever I think about when their relationship must have started, truly started, I always go back to their nightly chess games
