When reading your books, as a citizen of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, I can't help but notice your Princes Amelia sounding pretty close to our Princess Amalia. Did you use her as an inspiration?
Ohh that's an interesting question!
No, I hadn't actually heard of Princess Amalia of the Kingdom of Netherlands when I was writing The Case of Kindall, K. (and any of the other books either). I think the first I learned of her was last year, to be honest - from one of my lecturers who was from the Netherlands.
I live in New Zealand, and our school education system world studies tend to focus on Asia Pacific region, and globally significant historical events. I haven't personally studied the Netherlands, so Princess Amalia had not come to mind ~
Amelia's inspiration came/comes from a mix of different things. For her name, Amelia is the name of someone I knew growing up, who went to live in the Pacific Islands. For the Kingdom of Arkala, the main inspiration is the Kingdom of Tonga (re the authority and set up of the Arkala monarchy). In terms of character, I took inspiration from Rhosmari (Faery Rebels series) in terms of Amelia's disposition, and Princess Allura (Voltron) for her initial character background.
Thanks for the ask! ~

Amelia in the first snowfall in Arkala in a while
Drawn for Pixiv's Drawfest3 "Program 1" illustration study with artist Guweiz. The study focus was on differentiating light sources on characters in low light scenes.
It's winter (and cold) in my country, so maybe that's why I decided to draw Amelia in the snow for this haha ❄️

what is your novel about?
Hi! 🌸 Thanks for your ask!! ~
My novel, "The Case of Kindall, K.", is a thriller / action & adventure story set in a fictional island nation kingdom, Arkala. İt's about a seventeen year old (Kyle Kindall) who's accused of manslaughter, and sent to prison. The person he allegedly killed was his classmate.
The judge of Kyle's case truthfully feels something is off about the whole thing, so he asks his friend (Yuuki, 25 yrs old, a warden at the detention centre) to help him privately investigate it. (Spoiler: the judge is very much correct - Kyle's case turns out to have something else going on behind the scenes...)
I've written out an outline of what happens during the first book - I described it to my friend the other day like this, which she enjoyed, so I thought I'd try to describe it again in that way! :)
--
İn the first half of the novel, Yuuki meets with Kyle regularly and talks with him, and tries to figure out what really happened with Kyle's case. Yuuki works at the detention centre where Kyle has been sent to.
While this is going on, a few schoolmates of Kyle's, including the judge's daughter, also come forward to give their support of Kyle's claim of innocence. Yuuki also decides he believes Kyle's version of what happened.
Both the judge and his friend are wary, however. They were both involved in a kidnapping incident the year before, and Kyle's case has something about it which feels like that. Yuuki developed PTSD from that incident. Yuuki's PTSD affects him, and he's concerned about how the solitary confinement of Kyle's imprisonment is affecting Kyle.
True to the judge's gut intinct, things start happening. Yuuki finds Kyle near death in his cell with hypothermia one morning. Yuuki carries Kyle out of the cell that day. He and the judge get Kyle an emergency clearance (which is helped by new evidence suggesting Kyle's pleading not guilty to be true).
For a few days, Kyle recovers in the homes of the judge and Yuuki's. Kyle deals with the realisations of post traumatic stress. There's lots of hurt comfort ~
İt isn't long before the Bad Guys ™ come to Yuuki's house. The antagonists try to kidnap Kyle. Both Yuuki and Kyle are rescued (by the judge and his family), but it's too dangerous to stay around. So Yuuki, Kyle, the judge and his family, as well as a few of the judge's daughter's friends - end up going on the run in the countryside.
Yuuki's arm was badly injured during the house attack. His arm was shot three times by the bad guys - they'd used him to get Kyle to cooperate and let himself be taken quietly. Yuuki's arm is too badly damaged, and they can't safely risk getting him to a hospital, so the judge's wife (who has formal field medic training) performed an amputation surgery on it.
(Note: there are no graphic descriptions of anything re the amputation!)
----
(Actual spoiler under the cut!)
What actually happened with Kyle's case now comes to light.
Among the judge's daughter's friends is eighteen year old Laura. Laura is actually a surviving royal, and has hidden her real identity as the "deceased princess" Amelia İhserh. Her family had been murdered by the country's current usurper leader, but she unbeknownstly escaped the massacre.
The Bad Guys had come close to discovering Amelia. What happened to Kyle, re his case, is that Kyle had accidentally overheard the Bad Guys talking about finding and killing Amelia. The Bad Guys sent someone after Kyle, on the same night he overheard the conversation, to kill him. The person they sent was the classmate that Kyle "killed". But Kyle fought back, and in the process, the knife ended up being driven into the classmate instead. Kyle was the one who was meant to be killed that night. But Kyle survived, and the person who meant to kill him died because of it.
--
So -- out on the run now, the group end up simultaneously trying to appeal Kyle's case, figure out exactly who's after them, and get Amelia to a place where she can declare her identity and attempt negotiations with the usurper. Yuuki's remnant limb heals without complications, but that's not to say Yuuki's recovery is easy for him. İn the aftermath of what they've both experienced, Kyle and Yuuki become closer.
The group eventually are discovered by police (who the group can't trust for their safety), and end up having to flee their safe house. Yuuki almost drowns in a river, and Kyle gets briefly caught by the bad guys. He escapes once, then gets caught again. Kyle is rescued when a few members of the group go back to search for him.
After a lot of hiking through the bush, the group make it to the palace. The palace is where the usurper leader resides. While Amelia talks with him, the rest of the group scatter (for safety). While Kyle and Yuuki are walking to their waiting place up on the hillside, Yuuki falls. Kyle catches him, but falls with him. Kyle sustains a head injury hitting his head on a rock on the way down. (The head injury is made worse when patrolling bad officers find them. Yuuki fends them off (and the officers fall out of sight down the hill).)
Meanwhile, in front of the palace, the usurper leader finally goes to shoot Amelia. But one of Amelia's group shoots him from afar with a rifle before he can fire at her.
Once the signal for the "all clear" is given, Yuuki carries Kyle on his shoulders down the hillside to safety. As soon as Yuuki gets himself and Kyle ti to safety, Yuuki passes out in exhaustion.
Once again together with the group, Yuuki and Kyle rest and recover. The judge's wife tends to Kyle with his head injury. The group move into the palace as a temporary base/shelter, to rest and to begin negotiations with the country's police force on how to proceed.
The novel ends with the judge expressing his belief of Kyle's innocence, and his promise fo help Kyle get his acquittal.

Starting next Tuesday evening/night (NZT), I will start sharing chapters of The Case of Kindall, K. (Kindall K Book 1) here on Tumblr!
The first chapter will be posted in 1-3 parts, all posted at the same time. Following that, I will post chapters in 1-3 parts seperately.
For each post, I'll write any relevant tw/cw!
----
The Case of Kindall, K. is my first completed original novel. It's part of a thriller/action&adventure novel series with core themes of hurt comfort, found family and trauma/PTSD. There are currently four published books in the Kindall K series:
(prequel) The Ninao Incident
(#1) The Case of Kindall, K.
(#2) The Redemption of Kindall, K.
(#3) The Deliverance of Kyle Kindall
All four Kindall K books are available in paperback and ebook (Kindle/ePUB) via online bookstores. I've also made a free copy of The Case of Kindall, K. (ePUB version) available on Callaei Books - but I've decided to share it on Tumblr to make it more readily accessible for those who are interested to read it here.
Some more art that I've drawn of scenes from The Case of Kindall, K. below:

Recovery in the aftermath of the "Tied to a ponga tree" storyline:
Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4 | Day 6
Injuries to bandage, wounds to heal. Yuuki is applying balm to the scratches on Kyle's back. Amelia is likely clenching her jaw against the throbbing pain of her shoulder.

Day 3- Three French Hens (Three flax kits): Betrayal | Failed Escape | Candlelight
"Flax kits", or kete in Maori, are flax-woven baskets/bags made from harakeke flax. There's proverbs about having something (e.g. knowledge, love) in one's kete.
The whumpers sure are filling their kete with whumpees right now...

Day 6 - Six geese a-laying (Six poi a- twirling): Blackmail | Countdown | Last-Minute Relief
@amonthofwhump
Amelia be using her jersey as makeshift bandage for the arrow shot wound on her shoulder. She might want to get that properly taken care soon, though....
In the meantime, she's (mostly) escaped the whumpers, removed the arrow, and is on her way back to rescue her friends.
Follows on from: Day 1 | Day 2 | Day 3 | Day 4
--
Poi are weights/balls strung on a cord and swung in rhythmic/coordinated patterns. They're most often seen nowadays in Maori cultural dance, but traditionally also were used as weapons in war!
In Arkala (fictional Polynesian culture from my original story, The Case of Kindall, K.), they also traditionally use poi.

Name Meaning Tag
(indirectly tagged by @smellofsnoww )
Rules: Search and post the meaning of your OCs’ names (if you made their name up or they go by a nickname, post an explanation of how it came to you)! Bonus if you can find something for their last name too
I have many OCs, but I’ll just do three main main characters from Kindall K!
Yuuki Takahashi - 高橋悠希 His family name, 高橋 Takahashi, translates to ‘high bridge’, and his first name, 悠希 Yuuki , uses the kanji  悠 meaning ‘permeance/enduring’ and  希 meaning ‘hope’.
Kyle Kindall - (alt. name Kai’irh): so Kyle’s name is actually deriving from the Arkala’ana name ‘Kai’irh’ which means ‘changing tides’ (lit. sea moves). ‘Kyle’ is an easier to pronounce English equivelant to the name ‘Kai’irh’. The closest Japanese kanji for the Arkala’ana name Kai’irh: 海移. The pronunciation of ‘Kai’irh’ was inspired by the Mandarin reading for his name, Kai’er 凯尔.
Amelia Ihserh - her name is from Arkalahn meaning the amelia flower that grows in Arkala! (it’s a pale pink flower that blooms at the end of winter). I decided on this name for her because I was searching for a name that could sound Arkalahn, i.e. with Pacific island sounding phonemes (Arkala is located in the South Pacific). Her last name ‘Ihserh’ is also a made-up name like ‘Kai’irh’, and it was one of the later Arkalahn names I came up.
Additional notes re Kyle’s surname:
Re the surname ‘Kindall’ -- Kyle’s father, Sa’a La’e (bachelor name), was Arkala’ana, and his mother, Eleyna Kindall (maiden/married name) was Scottish - hence the surname Kindall. (Kyle has the surname Kindall because in Arkala’ana culture, it is traditionally the female partner’s name whose name because the married surname. So the family name became Kindall instead of La’e.
Edit: forgot to say - tagging anyone who sees this and wants to do it! ^^
