Are you technically Mexican? Is it also called "Mexico" in your universe?
Let me get this straight: I’m from ANOTHER UNIVERSE... and you’re asking if I’m
‘technically Mexican’?
I mean, I’m not from what you’re calling Mexico so no I’m not “technically” Mexican... but does it really even matter anyways?

StarSurf Reading Guide
A small guide to one of my favorite marvel ships: America/Ramone. I wrote this for the Yuri Olympics discord and thought I would share it here, too.
America (2017) - America's first solo comic series, OR Young Avengers (2013) - Not America's first introduction ever, but a starting point I like for her, as a team series it kind of assumes you have read the prev YA series but it's not really necessary, you might feel lost but its just because the plot is kind of wacky, more context won't help much lol.
Hawkeye (2016) - Ramone is introduced, she doesn't get a ton of lines but what she has is good.
West Coast Avengers (2018) - They start dating, Ramone gets her powers and begins using the code name Alloy
America Chavez: Made in the USA (2021) - this series introduced a retcon I really don't care for and personally have eschewed from my version of canon, but it had some nice moments between America/Ramone.

Everytime I see you making comic recs I add like five new things to my to read list 😂 what're some of your fav comics, and which comics do you think are underated???? 💖
I've been re-reading a lot of non-batfam comics lately, specifically with other Titans and Young Justice members.
I think Bart Allen's Flash run (Fastest Man Alive) is underrated in a couple aspects. First, we get to see Bart as something other than Young Justice's hyperactive teenager—here he's a young adult who's a little more jaded but still has heart. Second, I think it gives Bart the spotlight in death as well as in life (even though he comes back later because comics). One thing I never was a fan of in both Young Justice canon and fanon is how Bart's death is completely brushed aside in favor of focusing on Kon. I think that's a consequence of decades of him being relegated to Tim and Kon's tagalong. I highly suggest Fastest Man Alive and the 90s Impulse run because Bart is a fascinating character and an underrated member of the Flash Family.
This isn't DC, but I've also been revisiting America Chavez and Kamala Khan's comics with the new movie/show. I think G. Willow Wilson's origin of Ms. Marvel and Kalinda Vasquez's Made In The USA are great ways to introduce yourself to the characters if you're meeting them for the first time through the MCU. Both comics are fun and highlight the core of Kamala and America's personalities. I especially love the artwork in Ms. Marvel because it's not your typical hard outlines and bold colors—there's a softness to it even in intense scenes that lends well to Kamala and the world she is living in. And in Made In The USA, you get the highlights of America's relationship with Kate Bishop through the turns of dialogue and subtle actions.
I also recently reorganized my copies of The Walking Dead on a new shelf. Feel free to ask me about that anytime too.

The list you’re using is pretty dang comprehensive, I love it! It even has pretty extensive Kid Loki information! It looks like it only goes up to 2020, though! I don’t know exactly everywhere everyone else can be found after 2020, but I have some additions! For Kate there’s Hawkeye: Kate Bishop (2021), for Noh-Varr he’s in Guardians of the Galaxy (2020) (which I recommend even if you don’t care about Noh-Varr, like just on its own merit), Billy and Teddy are in Marvel’s Voices: Pride, and the Hulkling & Wiccan Infinity Comic and according to the Marvel Wiki they’re also in #25-30 of the Love Unlimited Infinity Comic (side note the Wiki could be useful to use for finding individual one off appearances!), America’s (unfortunately) got America Chavez: Made in the USA, Thunderbolts, and Defenders: Beyond, Prodigy/David was a main character in X-Factor (2020) but also since he was returned to the X-Men sphere with the invention of Krakoa he pops up in appearances in a number of other X titles so if you’re interested in that I’d look for some kind of list or check his appearances on the Wiki for which issues (also I just wanna say I love Prodigy?? If you’re at all interested in reading anything else with Prodigy from before he joins the Young Avengers, he debuts in New Mutants (2003) and his “generation” take center stage in New X-Men (2003), I love the kids in his X-Men “generation” and could not express how much I feel they are worth getting to know even though they’ve sadly been sidelined in more recent years as more and more X teens and young adults have been introduced and spotlighted— sorry I have too many feelings about this), Eli shows up in Black Panther (2018?) #23-25 (I checked the wiki because i thought i remembered something about this, not sure how significant his role is), and Tommy shows up in X-Factor (2020) #7 and #10, then he and Billy also were in X-Men: The Trial of Magneto, Who Is… The Scarlet Witch Infinity Comic, and Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic #9! Wow that was long, sorry! I’m probably missing stuff but I hope I hit the important ones!
Oh wow thank you! I’m probably gonna like make a google slides or something to track the comics for the characters 🤔

Queer Characters of Marvel Reading Guide #3: Miss America | America Chavez
Tumblr media
Originally, I wasn't going to do this guide since I'm using the Wiki to vet queer characters I've never heard of, and I knew about America Chavez. I'd read about her in stuff like Avengers and The Ultimates.
But it occurred to me when someone had to correct me on her origin, that I don't actually know anything about her at all. So, I decided to do this guide so I could learn everything there is to know about America. Honestly, I'm glad I did. She has a lot of VERY good and VERY queer gems.
I've probably purchased more trades for America Chavez ALONE than I have for any other guide I've made to date (With the exception of Eternals, since I own that FULL collection).
At A Glance:
Notable Series (For Queer Content):
Young Avengers (2013) #1-15
A-Force (2015) #1
Siege (2016) #1-4
The Ultimates 2 (2016) #1-6*
America (2017) #1-7
The Ultimates 2 (2016) #7-9, #100*
America (2017) #8-12
West Coast Avengers (2018) #1-10
Superior Spider-Man (2018) #7-8
Gwenpool Strikes Back (2019) #1-5
America Chavez: Made In the USA (2021) #1-5**
America & Kate:
Young Avengers (2013) #1-15
Siege (2015) #1-4
Civil War II: Choosing Sides (2016) #3: "A Story"
America (2017) #1-12
West Coast Avengers (2018) #1-10
Gwenpool Strikes Back (2019) #3-5
America Chavez: Made In the USA (2021) #1-5**
America & Lisa:
The Ultimates (2016) #1-5
America (2017) #1-10
America & Ramone:
West Coast Avengers (2018) #1-10
Superior Spider-Man (2018) #7-8
Gwenpool Strikes Back (2019) #3-5
America Chavez: Made In the USA (2021) #1-5**
*The Ultimates 2 doesn't necessarily contain queer content, but it's a great Arc for America and also just an all-around good series (Ultimates 1 is fucking basura don't do it to yourself).
**READ AMERICA CHAVEZ: MADE IN THE USA AT YOUR OWN RISK. They retcon America's ENTIRE storyline in this and completely ruin her character, but it gives closure to her arc with Ramone and the West Coast Avengers. It just sucks super bad.

I would also like to note here that America starts out pretty shaky with Vengeance and then hits her best years in Young Avengers, America (2017), and West Coast Avengers, but then somewhere along the line she becomes a "misfit" character and stops getting good storylines that end in a terrible character sniping retcon. We hate to see it 😔😔😔😔.

Okay, what is this garbage?
I didn’t know this, but the most recent Miss America series completely retconed America’s origin.
So in Young Avengers v2, America’s first important role, it was revealed that America came from the Utopian Parallel, an utopian reality inhabited only by women which was created by Billy Kaplan/Wiccan (one of Scarlet Witch’s sons) and she had to leave it after her mothers died protecting their home from evil. I haven’t read any of America’s later series, because comics am I right?, but I know this story was further explored in her first solo series America, and that was that
Except no, it fucking isn’t! Because last year America got a new solo miniseries called America Chavez: Made in the USA, and this series decided that her original origin is too awesome and she must be a normal fucking person who imagined the Utopian Parallel and everything in it (even though we know Billy becoming the Demiurge is a thing, and so are her super moms) as a way to deal with trauma from her “real” origin story, apparently America and her sister had some kind of disease and their moms were working on a cure and their sponsor was some guy who was trying to use America’s powers for his own gain and her moms died trying to protect her and I am gonna hurt someone because who thought that was a better origin that was better than hero from an all-lesbian utopia created by a gay wizard?
Actually I know who, because I checked: Kalinda Vazquez a TV writer, who is whiter and more femme than America series author Gabby Rivera, who is Puerto Rican, butch and gay. Also "Kalinda” is the name of an obscure Star Trek character, so I suspect her family is rich; I know poor Latines can like Star Trek, but they usually don’t become TV writers, Hollywood works on nepotism so it’s almost impossible to get there if you’re a normal person

The 'Chicken' Carvajal refused to make evident versus Petro in the Supreme Court
Former Venezuelan military official was to give details on how the Venezuelan government illegally supported left-wing political parties and politicians for at least 15 years. The former director of Venezuelan intelligence Hugo "El Pollo' Carvajal refrained on Friday from giving statements before the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia. After Carvajal presented a written statement to Manuel Garcia-Castellon (National Court of Spain) and the hearing was set. Garcia-Castellon had received assurances by Carvajal that Venezuela "has illegally funded leftist political movements around the world for at LEAST 15 years." https://www.trackometrix.com/the-chicken-carvajal-refused-to-affirm-versus-petro-in-the-supreme-court-2/ refers to not just the Podemos party (left-wing group that was founded by Pablo Iglesias) but also other Latin American politicians, parties and parties like Gustavo Petro. However the seriousness of this April 22 reveals that he did the accused did not have to declare his intentions to Spain or Colombia because it could result in extradition to USA and it is not impossible that he would say what he had already stated in a writing by a Spanish writer on Petro. He also voiced his displeasure of the Spanish judiciary. Carvajal is the current candidate for the presidency for Colombia in this document "While I was the Director of Intelligence and Military Counterintelligence of Venezuela," I received numerous reports suggesting that international funds were being used. Examples of this include Nestor Kirchner in Argentina; Evo Morales in Bolivia; Lula da Silva in Brazil; Fernando Lugo in Paraguay, Ollanta Humala in Peru; Zelaya in Honduras and Gustavo Petro in Colombia; and the Five Star Movement in Italy and Podemos both in Spain. These are all recipients of Venezuelan money. Gustavo Petro asked the Court to conduct an inquiry into the credibility of the statements.
youtube
Petro stated, at the time that "The previous statement is based on the fact that I am entitled to the right to truth and justice as an individual citizen" and that false claims affected my good name and my reputation. Who is Hugo Carvajal and what have been his most explosive remarks? Eight years ago the 'chicken Carvajal headed the Military Counterintelligence Directorate of Venezuela. It was led by Hugo Chavez and Nicolas Maduro for eight years. His name was made more famous after he was listed on the famous Clinton List for his alleged aid to drug trafficking by the FARC. He was held in custody by a Florida judge since May 2013. In addition, he was a key participant in the government of Nicolas Maduro and knew all the details regarding the Venezuelan president's actions. He was accused by the DEA The US Department of Justice with aiding in the trafficking of cocaine from his homeland. According to Spanish media reports, El Pollo says that the Venezuelan diplomat collected cash from the Embassy of Cuba in Caracas. He then brought the money to Spain using two methods. One is to send the cash in a diplomat's pouch to Spain or hand it over the cash himself from Caracas. petro gustavo seems to have been repeated many times in Spain as well as Latin America with left-wing candidates and various government officials. For now, the country is waiting for what can be known after turning on its fans. Petro's presidential campaign might be shaken due to his comments.

Fico Gutierrez's phrases to Petro: friend, FARC Chavista, friend and Expropriator
https://www.efe.com/efe/usa/america/fico-gutierrez-se-perfila-como-el-candidato-de-un-sector-la-derecha-colombiana/50000103-4760107 on Sunday of the "Team for Colombia" saw "Fico" Gutierrez triumph with 2 160.329. Votes, equal to 54.1%. Gutierrez was present for the first debate of presidential contenders after the elections for legislative. He was very measured in his responses to Gustavo Petro who won the Historic Pact consultation and Ingrid Betancourt an independent candidate. These were his questions. 'We more centralism': Federico Gutierrez during his time at The importance of the Sunday's election outcomes The initial topic of the discussion was to discuss the Sunday's election result. "It appears to me as if we're on the same side of the next round. This can be a reality in the political realm. Fico responded, saying that his goal was to win together during the initial round. This is because much of the country is at risk. Following that discussion, the possibility of winning in the initial round was aired, to which the presidential candidate from Team for Colombia pointed out: "The numbers speak for the numbers. Our coalition was the most recent that has existed for three months since the last election. We're only a few minutes away from signing the Historic Pact. It is clear that we are the only ones who are able to take on populist and authoritarian initiatives like Petro in the second round. http://www.elnuevosiglo.com.co/articulos/12-09-2021-federico-gutierrez-entrego-1400000-firmas-para-avalar-su-candidatura-la : Tough Questions Federico Gutierrez was questioned by Gustavo Petro during the debate about the inclusion of Piedad Cordoba on his list. "How can you say you won't accept any corrupt person on the list, even if Piedad Cordoba is included and he has been involved in the Chavez regime, which is danger to Colombia?" Fico expressed solidarity with Ingrid Betancourt and said that Cordoba had been accused of "trading kidnapping of children". Gutierrez has launched a vicious attack on Petro, calling him a ally of the FARC. "Those who attack others or those who abducted and extorted money and murdered are the masters and owners of the war. In my time I've used an instrument that was not from you. I am the one with the moral authority to talk of peace . I will ensure that the FARC as well as allies and my close friends adhere to the agreements. They've not fulfilled the conditions of the peace treaty. Zuluaga is spotted on the Gutierrez campaign Gutierrez then discussed Oscar Ivan Zuluaga arriving to his campaign. I told him to thank you for your position personally, and I will meet with him. But I'm going to meet with a number of other sectors that would like to join our candidacy." Gutierrez clarified that he wasn't Uribe's nominee, but would accept support. He continued, "Those of you who defend freedoms and democracy should join forces." I will meet with teachers. With the cooperative sector they are going to show the nation a national agenda and show how we can be a part of it. Gutierrez at the center of that topic, reproached Ingrid Betancourt "who is saying that there is only one good person and that everyone else is bad or corrupt." The candidate was rebuked by saying, "You don’t need to claim that I have bad intents since I don't have a single corruption scandal and I’ve done an adequate policy." If I'm elected president, and I am in the near future, I will join. While I'm not certain which side is left or right, I will govern in the best way possible. Ingrid accused him of being the actor was being assisted by "machineries like Los Char" and Dilian Francisca Toro. Ingrid reacted. He said, "I'm a man of character. He added, "I will make many alliances, but I've got the integrity to refuse violence or corruption." "Petro is dumb" Federico Gutierrez, made a fresh argument in his fight against Gustavo Petro. He said that he's aided in his pursuit of dominion extinction by ex-senator Armando Bidenetti. When he didn't receive any response, he said that the candidate of the Historic Pact "always plays dumb." What health care plans do health advocates have in mind? Former Medellin mayor, who was elected in 2004, presented his vision of a country's health system "Ideology should not prevail. There must be respect and dignity for our health services. We'll end the waiting and we will implement prevention and health promotion, in conjunction with the IPS, EPS, implement Siga model, in which triage is conducted, and it is determined the best way to treat you in accordance with your condition. He explained that it was crucial to have more favorable conditions for health professionals and "that these have guarantees of connecting" and clarified that he will not end EPS, but will continue to improve the system to care. He added, however, that "EPS that is not working can be dissolved." Relations with America To the question: Would you consider rethinking your relationships with the United States. Gutierrez said: "I'm going to maintain a good bilateral relations with the United States. There are still a few issues that require change. We are planning to build a system that has production across the nation. This will result in more of a political and commercial relation. UU is the most significant issue in the U.S. of today. This forces us all to acknowledge that the world has changed and that the U.S. can now be in a position to not only produce more food, but can as well import top-quality products from other countries. Gutierrez used the occasion to announce a new bid against Petro: "The Blockades, which Petro directed you to shut down the roads" Gutierrez said. He claimed that people frequently think about why eggs and chicken are so expensive since they were blocked by roads. Gutierrez, who once more asserted that Petro was "going to expropriate", pointed out that Petro's government would give low-interest loans to farmers and strengthen the irrigation districts. Land ownership will also be respected. Questions from applicants to candidates Federico Gutierrez was the one to clarify his position before the Uribe/Duque government. He said: "I am certain that starting August 7, everything will be working independently of the government," he said. He said that security was essential but not the only thing, and the latter would be combined with the social. If military forces have to arrive in a territory where there is conflict, for each helicopter that is able to arrive in the area, three helicopters will arrive through the aid of social investment." Gutierrez wrote a critique of Petro. He stated that Petro offered them the assistance they need through Families in Action. Check out https://www.elpais.com.co/politica/fico-gutierrez-candidato-de-la-coalicion-equipo-por-colombia-sera-la-nueva-cara-del-uribismo.html and you will see the Chavez model. Pension debate Gutierrez suggested, to improve the issue of pensions, that the state be capable of transferring its resources to territorial bodies to aid in strengthening the funds in fixed resources such as schools and roads. He also stated that there are 20 million pesos worth worth of mafia assets that could be handled by the state. He stated that he will also draft a law that will allow more domain extinction prosecutor. The money is to be used to pay for health and education, as well as the pension system for three million pensioners. In addition He said "the resources are available, you just have to understand where they are." Are you looking to book an appointment with Pope Francis on the campaign trail The debate was focused on visits by candidates Gustavo Petro (and Rodolfo Gutierrez) to Pope Francis. In this respect, Fico Gutierrez pointed out that "those who plan to meet with Pope Francis is because they are not familiar with the Pope. Although I am familiar with his name, the appointment I am scheduled for today involves the Colombians. Fico Gutierrez pointed out that although I personally know him, my meeting with him today will be in the presence of Colombians. Relations with Venezuela The discussion ended by addressing Venezuela. https://federicogutierrez.com/ pointed this out: "Maduro has had a relationship with Colombia through the FARC. https://thebogotapost.com/fico-eyes-colombias-presidency-an-interview-with-pre-candidate-federico-gutierrez/49519/ . Piedad. Petro. Maduro is a dictatorship that cannot be recognised as a state. However, there is a reality at border." He stated that vehicular traffic must be allowed due to the trade issue, which is still being faced by criminal organizations. Maduro is not considered to be a government, but the business decisions have to be made on the border." Gutierrez In a debate regarding the issue, sparked an argument with Petro. He noted that he was unable to defend "his allies" Russia, Syria, Venezuela and so on. He also criticized the notion that Colombia will be cut off from coal and oil. "That's another reason that renewable energy projects such as solar or wind are in the process of being constructed. Steps are being taken towards that, and we are planning to increase the capacity by a third." Gutierrez gave a goodbye speech: "Petro. I will be the president of the Colombians."
