Discarded Treasures (c.1904). John Frederick Peto (American, 1854-1907). Oil on canvas. Smith College Museum of Art.
Peto surrounded himself with books in his study, and these commonly found their way in his pictures, both in still-lives and portraits. These books, however, are stacked in a haphazard way, and the books are very well-worn. Close to the end of his life, Peto painted multiple pictures of dilapidated books for sale. Some have attributed this arrangement to Peto’s thoughts on mortality (he was suffering from a kidney disease at the time), the difficulty of the art market (he sold very few works in his lifetime), or the end of the 19th century.

Simone is one of, if not THE greatest Olympian in history already. She has absolutely nothing to prove. Despite all the expectations and responsibilities her country put on her, she stood sturdy everytime. Now it's time to make sure she is well and safe.
She always deserves nothing but pure respect, praise, and support.

ZIPPO LIGHTER, 1968 VIETNAM- US ARMY
A Zippo lighter is a reusable metal lighter produced by Zippo Manufacturing Company of Bradford, Pennsylvania, United States. Thousands of different styles and designs have been made in the eight decades since their introduction, including military versions for specific regiments. Zippo lighters have been sold around the world and have been described as "a legendary and distinct symbol of America". In 2012, the company produced the 500-millionth unit. Since the company's inception, Zippo lighters have been almost exclusively manufactured in the United States, with the exception of an operation the company ran from 1949 until 2002 in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada.
