247 years ago today, the Declaration of Independence was approved by the Second Continental Congress. Two days before the 4th, on July 2nd, 1776, Congress declared that the United Colonies were free and independent states by way of a document called the Lee Resolution. Over the next two days, Congress made a few changes to the Resolution, and the final document was finished and approved on July 4th. John Adams said of this:
"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. [...] It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shews, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more."
Americans decided to celebrate this occasion on the day the Declaration was approved, rather than when it was adopted.

how can people not see that certain public efficials have committed treason against this country and do not hold them accountable for there actions it seems like they was raised to vote only democrat even if they selling us out and destroying the country so china and other countries can move in and take over they just do not what to admit that the ones we vote in and the ones pulling there strings have betrayed all of us look at the bidens so corrupt it is un belevable they have all betrayed the us but they still vote for them it is time to wake up and actually forget they parties and be american defend this country against foriegn interference and election interference

So, while I've talked about this in other posts, I figured I may as well compile it in one post with this nifty propaganda poster (more on that later)
Long story short, they're bringing back KOSA/the Kids Online Safety Act in the US Senate, and they're going to mark it up next Thursday as of the time of this post (4/23/2023).
If you don’t know, long story short KOSA is a bill that’s ostensibly one of those “Protect the Children” bills, but what it’s actually going to do is more or less require you to scan your fucking face every time you want to go on a website; or give away similarly privacy-violating information like your drivers’ license or credit card info. 
Either that or force them to censor anything that could even remotely be considered not “kid friendly.” Not to mention fundies are openly saying they’re gonna use this to hurt trans kids. Which is, uh, real fucking bad. 
As per usual, I urge you to contact your congresscritters, and especially those on the Commerce Committee, who'll likely be the ones marking it up.

i'm confused .. isn't protecting kids under 18 from online harm a good thing? why everyone is against it?
Here's the thing about most bills that would supposedly "protect children" - they're not actually about protecting children. They're about targeting and censoring marginalized people.
Like... I dunno if you've noticed, but conservatives have been labeling queer people as a threat to children since like... forever. They claim queerness is a kink and anyone who exposes a child to it is a groomer and pedophile.
Pass a bill like this, and you get Conservative McFucko declaring that queer content is a threat to children, and poof! Suddenly websites that offer support and assistance to queer children are now age-restricted. Sites that feature queer art, stories, etc., are age-restricted.
It's not about "protecting" the children. It never was. It's about controlling them and suppressing various marginalized people. "We must protect the children!" is and always has been a manipulation tactic to get people to support absolute bullshit.
And another problem with KOSA is the fact that forcing everyone to use a digital ID for every "adult" site creates a huge security/privacy risk, making the Internet even less secure than it is now.
