Marsha P. Johnson was an American gay liberation activist and self-identified drag queen, known as an outspoken advocate for gay rights, she was a mother figure to many young LGBTQIA+ people in her community — especially those experiencing homelessness.
◾ TW Violence, Hate Crimes ◾
On July 6, 1992, Marsha’s body was found in the Hudson River off the West Village Piers. The police determined she had committed suicide despite adamant claims from her friends and community members that she was not suicidal.

Help Honor 9 Black American Civil War Soldiers
Tumblr media
We're working to purchase the U.S. Civil War military and pension files of nine formerly enslaved Black men who enlisted with the 47th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry during the American Civil War. These files still haven't been digitized by the National Archives. We plan to correct that by purchasing and digitizing the files, and then making them available free of charge to history students and teachers, researchers, genealogists, and the general public. But we need your help to do that because the records will cost approximately $110 per soldier. Please donate whatever you can to our GoFundMe campaign. Your support will help us ensure that the lives of these nine brave men will no longer be forgotten.

Even if “Tasha” and “Tyrone” didn’t clue you in, when you heard “Uniqua” come through on @nickelodeon you knew a sister must be up in the #Backyardigans mix! Pittsburgh native Janice Burgess created and executive produced the Emmy-winning animated children’s series for Nick Jr., acclaimed for its sophisticated music and action/adventure plotlines. Burgess later did the same with Winx Club, an action/adventure musical franchise aimed at young girls. #womenshistorymonth #goodblacknewscalendar #blackhistory #americanhistory https://www.instagram.com/p/CpiqGjFvUPW/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

John Muir’s contributions to conservation and national parks are significant, yet his legacy is marred by his era’s racist views toward Native Americans and other ethnic groups. Notably, Muir was instrumental in the creation of the National Park system and co-founded the Sierra Club. His writings inspired many to value and protect nature, infusing the environmental movement with respect and stewardship philosophies. However, critical examination of his life reveals a complex figure with profound achievements alongside reflective prejudices of his time.

The War on Drugs is not metaphorical, and actually consists of a set of undeclared conflicts fought domestically by the police against the general population and its irregular fighters, and internationally by US intelligence services in conjunction with the various fascist dictatorships that the US establishes and maintains around the world.

BLACK HISTORY MONTH QUOTE 15
Tumblr media
Wednesday, February 28, 2024
“White supremacy is not a human right, it’s a human rights violation, and by allowing a school to keep black history out of their curriculum, a government only perpetuates white supremacy, hence it perpetuates a human rights violation.” – Abhijit Naskar, Hometown Human: To Live for Soil and Society

Is the book of Exodus the story of America?
The ancient Jewish Exodus from Egypt began the formative nation-building epoch of the Jewish people. The experience is so renowned that it continues to reverberate in freedom struggles across the globe. Long before the colonies united to form the United States of America, and ever since, the Exodus story has been a touchstone for American intellectual, religious and social thought, influencing everything from the White House to best-selling books, the fight for the abolition of slavery to the filming of Hollywood mega-hits.

My first post is dedicated to the fighting men of Item Company, 3rd Battalion, 116th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division.
These men from Northern Virginia would land on Omaha Beach on D-Day, June 6th, 1944, and would continue to push the German army back through difficult and bloody hedgerow fighting until finally capturing the city of St. Lo on July 18th. August would see these men fighting through Brittany during the attack on Brest, eventually opening the port of Brest for future supply chains to fuel the push east into Germany. They would spend the winter of 1944-45 pushing through the Rhineland, until the war in Europe concluded in the spring of 1945.
The 116th is very near and dear to me, as local veterans are buried near all over Northern Virginia, and whose lives were irrevocably changed by this momentous war.
The models used are put together from kits by Warlord Games, using Vallejo Model Color paints.
