Okay so today I’m enlisting the help of any tumblr geologist/someone who knows things about gemstones/cool rocks. So, years ago I found this really cool rock at a CREEK. This CLEARLY wasn’t just some normal rock so I took it home. For years I’ve thought it was a massive thing of amethyst that someone likely lost because well, it’s purple. But now I’m not so sure. After all, it’s doesn’t seem to have the same structure most amethyst does and it’s not as if it’s professionally smoothed out or anything, it’s too rough and oddly shaped for it. So I’d like help identifying it. Is it amethyst after all? Just some really cool colored quartz? Or is it something else? (That orangish streak in it is not a trick of the light. There is really an orange streak. The dark lines in the edges of it on the third picture is dirt. Again, I found it amongst other rocks at a creek)
Pretty sure it’s amethyst, the purple is pretty spot on. It’s just that orange vein/stream and the way it’s structured that’s throwing me off. Either I’m still keeping it.
