NaNo Day 2

Day two. It’s almost bedtime. I feel like it was bedtime many hours ago. I have written 5 words. It is not going well. I can’t write what I want to write until I’ve read my sources and I can’t do that because work takes all my good hours and the ones I have left at the end of the day are useless, dry-eyed, listless, dead-brained hours. This is not sustainable. By nature I am a night owl, and at the creative time of night I am exhausted by long hours of staring at a computer doing a job that was long ago automated in other more civilised countries. Jobs are rubbish. I hate them. They waste my good time. I just wasted another ten minutes writing this rant whilst intermittently staring into space. Good job! Oh mon dieu.

How my executive dysfunction is functioning today:

1. I’d really like to write.

2. Before I do that I have to clean off my desk.

3. My desk is covered in laundry, so first I have to hang up my laundry, then clean up the stuff under the laundry.

4. If I do that I may as well clean my entire room. I won’t be able to focus on my writing unless it’s clean.

5. If I’m cleaning my room I really should sweep my floor. 

6. If I’m sweeping I should mop. 

7. If I’m going to mop I may as well mop the whole apartment -- which means I have to sweep everything, but first I have to clean up everything. 

8. That means I have to take out the trash. 

9. If I’m taking out the trash I may as well take out the recycling. 

10. Taking out the recycling is a big job. Since I don’t want to do that I think I’ll just lay in bed with the curtains closed all day and not write at all.

Radio Silence

Yes, it’s been very quiet around here.

Yes, it will probably remain very quiet around here. 

I’m having fun writing with other people in a forum RPG, and I do not feel bad about neglecting my “own” writing one little bit. But it does mean that I don’t have much to post in this blog until November rolls around again. 

Which is to say, I’ve already decided what I’m writing in November. I’ll be continuing the project I began with 2016′s NaNoWriMo, and writing more short stories/novellas for that. 

[that was before I had this blog on Tumblr, so there are no updates on that, but it was the project that spawned Wildfire]

It's been roughly... 6 months since I've written anything outside of essays and assignments. I have put some work into my series bible updates and jotted down a few new story ideas, but little else.

And my logical brain says that's just the nature of senior year and this lull will pass, but it still makes me feel like a tiger pacing in a zoo. It makes me anxious that I don't feel anxious to write, like I did before.
