It's come to my attention that people have been adopting more minis lately, from pet stores and breeders- which, if they're reputable, isn't an issue- but they do this because they don't know how big amongi get.

Please remember that the average height of an amongus is 3'6. They don't stay tiny, less than a foot tall, fit in your hand minis forever, and if they are that size they're likely under a year old and will start growing very fast- amongi stop being minis at age 3. So many amongi have wound up in shelters instead of what could have been a loving home because the owner didn't realize they'd be getting a pet potentially as tall as a first grader.

As well, amongi can live for 50 years, and longer lifespans have occasionally been recorded- they really are a big commitment. They're not something to get a little kid for a present like a cat or a dog or a goldfish. They're not something you keep in an enclosure all the time like a reptile. The closest match to a more "traditional" pet would maybe be a bird; birds are much smaller, yes, but they're out of their birdcage frequently, they can get very loud and annoying when they want to, they will make a mess of everything they can pick up (whether it's an impostor sabotaging or a crewmate trying to do a task where there isn't one).

Make sure you know what you're getting into. Please don't buy amongi on a whim, they're an incredible commitment and they're not a cute, small, well-behaved pet you can just put in a cage all day and look at.

I took in a litter of 12 amongi today and I feel underprepared. Do you recommend I let them sleep in my bed the first few weeks? or let them get used to their own bed right away...I am currently doing more research more but this was on a whim, and I don't feel comfortable separating them and giving them away to people looking to adopt just yet. On that note, any name suggestions for my babies?

12- that's a lot of amongi for one person to handle! It must've been quite an emergency. You should probably let them get used to their own bed, but have them all sleep together for a while. Based on you saying "litter" and "babies" I assume they are quite young, definitely minis and possibly under a year old? Minis at that age would love a big human bed- but they wouldn't know enough not to roll off the edges (which will hurt if they're small enough for that to be a decent fall) and there's a high chance that if you're sleeping in the bed with them, you could accidentally roll over and squish one. Essentially, don't have infant amongi sleep in your bed with you for the same reason you don't have infant humans sleep in your bed with you.

If you don't already have a mini bed, a large dog bed is a good bet. And not separating them yet is a good idea! When they're quite young, their parents, human caretakers, and siblings are all minis have in the world, and they'll freak out if they lose any of them. Even full grown amongi aren't that good at leaving their lobbies. At the very least, try not to separate them until they're no longer minis- when they turn 4.

I usually name my amongi based on whatever word first comes to mind- when we took in Edgelord, I thought he was acting like an angsty teenager, when we took in Wizard I thought they looked like a starry wizard's hat, when The kinda just.. showed up one day, nobody had any words. The is an odd one. If one of them seems especially curious, call them Detective. If one of them is super affectionate, give them a name like Sweetheart or Darling. If one of them is orange, name them Himbo.

Crewmate Care Specifics

It's important to note that this is NOT a catchall guide for how to take care of a crewmate, and that if you're considering getting your own you need to do your own research first! Having said that, here's some basics on care.

Food

Crewmates are technically omnivores, but they have trouble eating meat and will likely not recognize it as food. I feed my crewmates mostly fresh fruits and vegetables, with the occasional egg or insect for protein. Ideally, you should provide your crewmates with unlimited access to vegetables and clean water, additional protein twice or three times a week, and one small piece of fruit once a day. Anything with added sugar, such as fruit juice or amogus-safe candy, should be limited to no more than once a week.

Enclosures

Amongi can get pretty big (up to around 3' at maturity for most breeds), and therefore need a lot of space! It's common practice to let the amongi free-roam around the house, but if you don't want to do that, they can live in a medium sized room as long as they get regular walks and trips to amongi parks (which I'll touch on later). Their enclosures should have a litter box, some sort of pet bed, access to enrichment and task toys, and food/water.

Enrichment

Enrichment for crewmates mostly involves task toys and interaction with other amogi. There are special task toys designed specifically for crewmates, but children's toys with moving parts also work. Think similar to those baby-computers where you press a button and it makes sound. As for socialization, if you only have one amogus, you'll need to play with it quite a lot. Crewmates are pack animals, and need frequent socialization. This can also be accomplished by taking your crewmate to an amongus park, which is similar to a dog park, just for amongi!

Acquisition

So, you want to get a crewmate! There are many ways you can go about this. You can adopt from an amogus shelter, purchase from a breeder, or buy from a pet store. No matter what, you want to make sure your source is ethical and treats their amogi well. You can research amongus adoption centers in your area; they're common everywhere amongi live, which thanks to them becoming popular as pets is pretty much everywhere. If you're looking for a specific breed, you'll want to go to a breeder. Some breeds, such as teacup amogi, are unethical and can cause heath problems, so choose your breed carefully. If you want a smaller amogus, consider choosing the teakettle variety instead; teakettle amongi grow to about two feet at maturity and have none of the health problems associated with teacups.
