so, feanorians in ukrainian embroidered shirts, I put in this more thoughts then I probably should have, so some fun facts
the main parts of embroidery is their names, in ukrainian embroidery you can encrypt words, dates, even family trees into patterns and this thing was so interesting to me that I encrypted feanorians names in embroidery
also these names are not their sindarin names, they're mother-names (aka amilessë) because it's very common symbol in ukrainian culture "a mother embroiders a shirt for her child as a protecting charm" especially before said child going to the long adventure and i feel some sad parallels about noldors adventure to the middle-earth
also amrad and amras's mother names are the same, so on their shirts there are two different varieties of "writing" the same name

Legacy.
No matter what you are, who you are, the power of your parents legacy has the ability to shape you. . It's how you let it shape you that matters. Do you let it control you? Or do you perhaps control it instead?
That is what Thorin is trying to figure out. Stuck in the cells of Mirkwood. He is truly starting to wonder if he can achieve what he set out to do.
Take back the mountain, kill the dragon Smaug and live to tell the tale…Live to take back his family legacy.

“I would not trust Thranduil, the great king, to honor his word should the end of all days be upon us!” Thorin stops walking. Still facing away from Thranduil, he speaks. His voice gets louder and louder as he goes.
“You lack all honor!" He is now shouting. Thorin spins around and points at Thranduil.
"I’ve seen how you treat your friends. We came to you once, starving, homeless, seeking your help, but you turned your back. You turned away from the suffering of my people and the inferno that destroyed us! Imrid amrad ursul!” [ Die a death of flames!]
Thranduil puts his face right in front of Thorin’s.“Do not talk to me of dragon fire. I know its wrath and ruin. I have faced the great serpents of the north.”
As Thranduil speaks, his face contorts, revealing his burns and scars from his past encounters. His left eye is milky and blind. He draws away, and his face returns to normal.
“I warned your grandfather of what his greed would summon, but he would not listen.” Thranduil turns and walks up the winding steps to his throne.
“You are just like him.” he spat, motioning to the guards, who grabbed Thorin and began hauling him toward the dungeons.
“Stay here if you will, and rot. A hundred years is a mere blink in the life of an elf." He plopped down in his chair as Thorin growled at him, smirking as he continued, "I am patient. I can wait.”
Thorin is thrown into a cell beside the other dwarves, and his jailer walks away with a ring of jangling keys.

The Good, the bad and the sickness. The minds of his father and grandfather were not healthy ones. Driven mad by the heart and precious gold inside that mountain.
Thorin shuddered, pulling tighter into himself in the corner of the cell. What else was he expecting?
Of course he would fail. He sighed. It's not the first time in his life. He has failed more than one person, including himself in his 154 years. He has failed more than one person in the last 3 days.

After the guard walked back up the stairs after locking him in. Thorin listened as Fili spoke loudly through the bars of his"You know Uncle would never approve."
Thorin's eyebrows pinched together, Kili scoff followed his brother's statement quickly, "Uncle doesn't have a place to talk right now."

Fi and Ki…Thorin’s head fell back against the wall behind him. Eyes closed in thought. Having children was never on the plan for Thorin. As a spare to the line succession, he never thought much of it. Than came… Azanulbizar and the death of his grandfather, Víli and Ferin.
With his father's disappearance, He had to step up into a position he was unfamiliar with. A position he never saw himself as.
The position of King…and the position of a Father.
Fili and Kili were no more than bairns at the time and Dís was in no shape to raise them alone. Fí was now the heir, with Kí as his spare. There was no other choice but for him to step up and raise them as he thought Ví would want.
He has failed them. He let his head bang once against the wall.
He has failed his sister. Two bangs.
He has failed his brother. Three bangs
He has failed his sister's one. Four bangs.
And worst of all, he failed his one. Five bangs.
All because he couldn’t bear to see her hurt. But by doing so. By saying so. He has hurt her and hurt his sister's sons even worse than if he had said nothing, done nothing.
That was his legacy.
Failure.
Breathing deeply through his nose, Thorin raised his hands to twirl the 2 silver beads, tied back behind his right ear. He smiled slightly at the memory of craving them.
The lion and the wolf.
He had craved them the day each of the princes took their titles in the Blue Mountains. And from that very moment as they both pledged their services as not just royalty but as protectors of the people. Thorin was sure that even if he had children of his own. Fili and Kili would always remain as his first and second heirs. For he couldn’t see them being any different than his own. Though he definitely did not tell them that. Or even showed them the clasps on his braids.
Now especially, he was so ashamed to be near them. What happened at Beorn's house, was not him. It didn't feel like it was him. What kind of example did that leave Fi and Ki? What legacy did that leave them.
What happened with Aranea was not something that he thought was possible for him. It was so uncharacteristically him, could he have gotten so blindsided by his love-…or was it love?
It had to be?
Aranea was his one, he knew that. It couldn't be more obvious. His heart swoons at the mere sound of her name.
So if she is his one. Which he knows. And in his heart is what he feels as love. Then what the hell happened that evening at the shapeshifter's house…

Global Underground 014: Hong Kong by John Digweed
1999
Progressive House / Progressive Trance
So, I guess I'm just ping-ponging back and forth between Global Underground mixes by Sasha and Global Underground mixes by John Digweed now. Back when these guys teamed up in the past to do things like Northern Exposure, it yielded some absolute magic, but when they're doing their own separate mixes for Global Underground, I haven't found their output nearly as satisfying. Many would disagree with me on this, though 😅.
But this Digweed double-disc is pretty frickin' good, in my estimation. And what's a little surprising about it to me, in particular, is that I actually really like the first disc—the progressive house one—a lot more than the second disc—the progressive trance one. I've definitely spieled about the late 90s era of progressive house before and how I find it to be largely boring, and the past two mixes that I've dug into from both Sasha and Digweed have much acclaimed progressive house discs on them that seem to cement my view even further.
And yet, the progressive house disc from this set really clicked with me. Diggers gets into a ~deep zone~ in the middle that I don't really jibe with, but a lot of the selections that surround that part are nothing short of excellent. The opener is this sleek and classy, talkbox-infused mix of Underworld's "Cups," by Manchester trio Salt City Orchestra, that sounds like it belongs in some kind of nocturnal-set Mercedes-Benz ad; Leiva's "Something for the Soul" has this fantastically hazy and dubby lead synth to it; Luzon brings in some old world flavoring with his sampling of a late 80s tune by Israeli world music-pop star Ofra Haza in "The Baguio Track;" and then the disc closes with a dark, brooding, and ominous monster from London's Medway, with "Flanker," a song whose constant synth chirps have a way of sounding like an approaching swarm of killer hornets who have their stingers at the ready 😧.
A good amount to enjoy in the second disc here too, especially in its latter half. Digweed runs back-to-back with two different mixes by The Netherlands' Lucien Foort, aka Funk Function; first with Science Dept.'s "Persuasion," which has a bit of an aquatic vibe to it, thanks to a catchy lead synth melody that sounds like rapid, whimsical flute stabs; and then with something smooth in Johan's "Crash." And immediately following that pair is a remix of Dutchman Hole in One's "Amrad in the 7th Phase" by the legendary Ferry Corsten, which features a great, sudden infusion of whistling synths 😌.
Still though, I didn't find this second disc to be as entertaining or cohesive or consistent as the first one. And while people rave about both of these CDs and consider the whole package to be one of the greatest commercial DJ mix releases of all time, I definitely disagree. But out of the trio of GU Digweed mixes I've now ventured into, this one might be my favorite, overall, with Sydney second, and Los Angeles definitely a distant third.

AL-HASAN AL-BASRI
Imam al-Ghazzali relates al-Hasan's words on the personal struggle against one's lusts (jihad al-nafs) in the section of his Ihya' entitled Kitab Riyada al-Nafs wa Tahdhib al-Akhlaq wa Mu`alaja Amrad al-Qalb ("Book of the Training of the Ego, Disciplining of Manners, and Healing of the Heart's Diseases") that al-Hasan al-Basri said:
Two thoughts roam over the soul, one from Allah one from the enemy. Allah shows mercy on a servant who settles at the thought that comes from Him. He embraces the thought that comes from Allah, while he fights against the one from his enemy. To illustrate the heart's mutual attraction betwen these two powers the Prophet said: "The heart of a believer lies between two fingers of the Merciful"... The fingers stand for upheaval and hesitation in the heart... If man follows the dictates of anger and appetite, the dominion of Satan appears in him through idle passions (hawa) and his heart becomes the nesting-place and container of shaytan, who feeds on hawa. If he does battle with his passions and does not let them dominate his ego (nafs), imitating in this the character of the angels, at that time his heart becomes the resting-place of angels and they alight upon it.

Discovery of a fundamental law of friction leads to new materials that can minimize energy loss
Professor of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Elisa Riedo and her team have discovered a fundamental friction law that is leading to a deeper understanding of energy dissipation in friction and the design of two-dimensional materials capable of minimizing energy loss.
Friction is an everyday phenomenon; it allows drivers to stop their cars by breaking and dancers to execute complicated moves on various floor surfaces. It can, however, also be an unwanted effect that drives the waste of large amounts of energy in industrial processes, the transportation sector, and elsewhere. Tribologists-those who study the science of interacting surfaces in relative motion-have estimated that one-quarter of global energy losses are due to friction and wear.
While friction is extremely widespread and relevant in technology, the fundamental laws of friction are still obscure, and only recently have scientists been able to use advances in nanotechnology to understand, for example, the microscopic origin of da Vinci's law, which holds that frictional forces are proportional to the applied load.
Now, Riedo and her NYU Tandon postdoctoral researcher Martin Rejhon have found a new method to measure the interfacial shear between two atomic layers and discovered that this quantity is inversely related to friction, following a new law.
This work-conducted in collaboration with NYU Tandon graduate student Francesco Lavini, and colleagues from the International School for Advanced Studies, the International Center for Theoretical Physics in Trieste Italy, as well as Prague's Charles University-could lead to more efficient manufacturing processes, greener vehicles, and a generally more sustainable world.
"The interaction between a single atomic layer of a material and its substrate governs its electronic, mechanical, and chemical properties," Riedo explains, "so gaining insight into that topic is important, on both fundamental and technological levels, in finding ways to reduce the energy loss caused by friction."
The researchers studied bulk graphite and epitaxial graphene films grown with different stacking orders and twisting, measuring the hard-to-access interfacial transverse shear modulus of an atomic layer on a substrate. They discovered that the modulus (a measure of the material's ability to resist shear deformations and remain rigid) is largely controlled by the stacking order and the atomic layer-substrate interaction and demonstrated its importance in controlling and predicting sliding friction in supported two-dimensional materials. Their experiments showed a general reciprocal relationship between friction force per unit contact area and interfacial shear modulus for all the graphite structures they investigated.
Their 2022 paper, "Relation between interfacial shear and friction force in 2D materials" was published online in Nature Nanotechnology and was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science and the U.S. Army Research Office.
"Our results can be generalized to other 2D materials as well," Riedo, who heads NYU Tandon's PicoForce Lab, asserts. "This presents a way to control atomic sliding friction and other interfacial phenomena, and has potential applications in miniaturized moving devices, the transportation industry, and other realms."
"Elisa's work is a great example of NYU Tandon's commitment to a more sustainable future," Dean Jelena Kovačević says, "and a testament to the research being done at our newly launched Sustainable Engineering Initiative, which focuses on tackling climate change and environmental contamination through a four-pronged approach we're calling AMRAd, for Avoidance, Mitigation, Remediation and Adaptation."

Setelah itu, beliau menerangkan manhaj (metodologi) beragama yang benar yang perlu ditelusuri oleh sesiapa yang mahu masuk ke Syurga Allah ta’ala. Tidak cukup dengan itu, beliau turut menerangkan hukum bermain atau mendengar seruling, gendang dan nyanyian. Setelah itu, beliau berbicara mengenai bahayanya memandang wanita bukan mahram dan amrad (budak lelaku comel yang berdagu licin). Beliau mengakhiri risalah dengan doa dan titipan nasihat yang sangat hebat, semoga Allah mengganjari beliau atas jasa dan baktinya kepada umat Islam.
