I got the lucky chance to ride Amtrak’s Keystone Service from Philly to New York and I have to say I am in love. This is just about the best of what Amtrak could be doing everywhere and it is criminal we are not doing this for more American cities

We really need to nationalize the rail network, and give Amtrak a budget to rival the US military

On the advertised, but not as advertised by Greg Brown Via Flickr: Amtrak 792 departs Portland in October 1994. According to the timetable, it's 6:00 pm in the Rose City. Also, the timetable says this train is the Northwest Talgo. The trio of Superliners behind F40 AMTK 384 suggest that you shouldn't believe everything you read. That open area on the engineer's side of the train was once the site of Portland Terminal Company's Depot Yard. Today, the area is filled with condominiums.

Amtrak FL9's were assigned to Albany for use between Albany and New York City for third rail operations into Grand Central. Every now and then one would make a run west of Albany to Niagara Falls. Here the 485 makes a return run on the Niagara Rainbow, the morning EB train out of Niagara Falls, rolling thru Central NY farm fields as it approaches the Oakland Road overpass in North Weedsport. “On America’s 200th Birthday, Amtrak’s train 40, the eastbound Broadway Limited, departs downtown Chicago for Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where the train will be split, with one section continuing on the Washington DC and the other section heading up to New York City. Two-year-old SDP40Fs 601 and 592 are in charge of this 12-car train, at least until Harrisburg, where each section will have the diesel changed to electric power – most likely a former-Pennsylvania Railroad GG-1 on each section.”

A former Union Pacific GP9, which would become AMTK 763 and wear silver paint (of various phases), moves a train about. We’re atop Roosevelt Road once again.

I think the train *may* be the Illinois Zephyr; it’s powered by the short-lived GE P30CH. There’s a nice assortment of legacy passenger equipment in the background.
